Latest / Early Edition with Ryan Bridge / Kevin Putt: Former Springbok and Rugby Commentator ahead of the second All
Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: Is it redemption time for the All Blacks? They lost
- 0:02Speaker 1: against the spring Box in South Africa last week. They're
- 0:04Speaker 1: playing them again early Sunday morning. Scott Robertson has made
- 0:07Speaker 1: some changes to the squad, you could say, including adding
- 0:10Speaker 1: the youngest All Black in this year's squad to the
- 0:13Speaker 1: starting line up, twenty one year old Wallace a Titi.
- 0:16Speaker 1: This will be his second test for the All Blacks.
- 0:19Speaker 1: Kevin Partz a former Springbok and rugby commentator. He's with
- 0:22Speaker 1: us this morning. Get a Kevin, Good morning, Ryan, good morning.
- 0:24Speaker 1: Good to have you on the show again. Tell me
- 0:27Speaker 1: is this a bold, brave mood move from Razor?
- 0:31Speaker 2: I think it is, but it's also necessary. They had
- 0:34Speaker 2: no impact from the bench last week. I guess they
- 0:37Speaker 2: had the option of starting with the same fifteen. But
- 0:41Speaker 2: what they've done is they've bought in the person. They
- 0:43Speaker 2: probably looked for a bit of impact on the bench
- 0:45Speaker 2: and they've said, well, here you go, young man, have
- 0:47Speaker 2: a go, and they put them wrong right from the start.
- 0:50Speaker 1: Some people are saying this is the start of the
- 0:52Speaker 1: real start of the Robertson era where he's setting us
- 0:57Speaker 1: up for the next World Cup.
- 1:00Speaker 2: Well, you know, he's sort of, he's got to play
- 1:03Speaker 2: that hand. Now South Africa have sort of won the
- 1:07Speaker 2: Four Nations competition, now's that opportunity where put away the result.
- 1:13Speaker 2: Now he's got to start shaping and get some real
- 1:15Speaker 2: value out of this. The good news is he doesn't
- 1:17Speaker 2: just need to try and win games to please the public.
- 1:20Speaker 2: He now needs to shape a team that's going to
- 1:22Speaker 2: be good for the future. And you see a young Rasima,
- 1:24Speaker 2: you see the tit on the blindside, and people are
- 1:29Speaker 2: joking that it might be the bomb disposal units with
- 1:32Speaker 2: the likes of Barrett. It's coming from the bench as well,
- 1:36Speaker 2: who's an outstanding finisher in any game he's played previously.
- 1:41Speaker 1: What about the veterans, if you can call them that
- 1:44Speaker 1: of the squad, what is the message to them.
- 1:49Speaker 2: Well, I've got to be honest. I think it's a
- 1:51Speaker 2: good message. He's shown you loyalty to have brought back
- 1:53Speaker 2: a guy like Caine and kept them in the squad.
- 1:56Speaker 2: I thought we were very good last week. That is
- 1:58Speaker 2: a very tough place to go and win. We found
- 2:02Speaker 2: that about you can't win. But he's also very short
- 2:05Speaker 2: of personnel and that, by the way, that's a New
- 2:08Speaker 2: Zealand problem. That's not a Scott Robinson problem. Very short
- 2:11Speaker 2: of personnel, and what he's done is he's kept the
- 2:13Speaker 2: nucleus of it but said, right, we've got to just
- 2:16Speaker 2: shape this up for the future a little bit and
- 2:17Speaker 2: there's a few changes.
- 2:19Speaker 1: Kevin, thank you very much for your time this morning.
- 2:21Speaker 1: Go the ABS come Sunday morning. That's Kevin part form
- 2:24Speaker 1: of Springbok and Rugby Commentator. It is for more from
