- 0:00Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the Three O Tape, where we talk
- 0:04all things Major League Baseball.
- 0:06Here's Kyle Corwin and Nate Reyes.
- 0:10It all starts right now. Welcome back to the Three O Tape
- 0:20presented by Sea Kick. This episode 488 I'll be your
- 0:22host Kyle Corden. I'm here with my Co host Nate
- 0:24Reyes. Nate.
- 0:26Some say Co host, some say model based on that beautiful T-shirt
- 0:33you got on there Sir. Lovely.
- 0:37Tally's up two. Yep, that's 22 of 10 this
- 0:41offseason. Yep, this is spectacular.
- 0:45The Losing Bet T-shirt makes its return.
- 0:47As you can see, you got 33 Nates on there and then some.
- 0:53Some 90s generational shortstops, some of which some
- 0:58of some of whom your your face are covering, but that's that's
- 1:01neither here nor there. But tally tally another one for
- 1:04the good guys. That's 2 for me.
- 1:07Delightful. 8 appearances AKA 8 episodes left until my debt is.
- 1:13Paid. I forgot about it.
- 1:15I really did. Like we went through.
- 1:18You said it, you said it. Look, we're going to get some
- 1:21new listeners. If you're new, welcome.
- 1:23By the way, thanks for hanging out with us.
- 1:25You said, look, we're going to get some new people during the
- 1:28playoffs, during the postseason. I don't know if I want to be
- 1:31wearing it during the postseason.
- 1:32Postseason goes Yankees, break my heart, I forget, I lose
- 1:36track. You bringing this out
- 1:40revitalizes a lot of things in here that were broken and hurt.
- 1:46Man of honor, man of integrity. I, I, I lost the bet fair and
- 1:49square. Which, by the way, I've I've yet
- 1:53to make my donation to the Yankees Foundation.
- 1:55We got to get like an e-mail confirmation on that, yeah.
- 1:59I'll get that taken care of, but it it's here, it's alive and
- 2:02well, the the bet is en route to being paid off.
- 2:07Excellent. So here we are.
- 2:09Here we are. Let's let's talk some baseball.
- 2:12Sure. That's what we do on this show.
- 2:13That's what we do on this podcast.
- 2:15And as Nate mentioned, if you're new, welcome.
- 2:17We appreciate your support if you're a regular listener, we we
- 2:23love you all just just the same. All are welcome here and we are
- 2:27grateful that of all the things you could be doing with your
- 2:29time that you decided to spend it with us.
- 2:32So thank you. Thank you, folks.
- 2:37Speaking of spending time, I don't know if right off the top
- 2:41here, I don't know if Jordan Montgomery genuinely wants to
- 2:45spend another minute in this Arizona Diamondbacks mix because
- 2:50what a weird situation this is developed into.
- 2:54I mean, you can see it coming from a mile away once the the
- 2:57initial comments are made, which will obviously refresh you all
- 3:01if you're if you maybe forgot. But the latest and the reason
- 3:05we're we're sort of leading off with with Montgomery here is
- 3:08that the report, according to Jeff Hassan or Jeff Hassan, Jeff
- 3:13Hassan, I don't know where that came from, came out stating that
- 3:18the Diamondbacks were willing to eat some of the contract in
- 3:22order to maybe get this guy out of town.
- 3:29And just wanted to confirm real fast that contract. 22.5.
- 3:39Yep, 22.5 owed to him this year. Very good.
- 3:47Well, what's, what's the keyword?
- 3:52Some here, you know what I mean? Like some What are you willing
- 3:55to eat and what Jordan Montgomery are you going to get?
- 3:58That's what we don't know. I saw a take.
- 4:02I, I know we're starting off a segment with a take that I saw
- 4:06on social media. Maybe not the best the best
- 4:08source to go off of, but I saw something and it just made me
- 4:11go. Hmm, made me wonder a little
- 4:13bit. I saw somebody on the interwebs
- 4:17talking. About the WWE dots.
- 4:20Or throwing out the idea, rather, that the Diamondbacks
- 4:24would hit Jordan Montgomery with the Mad Bum treatment.
- 4:33Of just was. DFA just just DFA ING them and
- 4:39say we'll eat whatever we need to eat.
- 4:41That seems a bit extreme given that, like you said, if if you
- 4:46don't know which Jordan Montgomery you're going to get,
- 4:49that seems a little bit risky. With the, with the mad bum
- 4:52thing, it's like you, we kind of know you could see the right on
- 4:55the wall. You, you knew the direction, the
- 4:57trajectory of that career, the the final years that he had left
- 5:01there. You could you could see that
- 5:03that's where it was headed. But with Montgomery, I'm not, if
- 5:06I'm the Diamondbacks, I'm, I'm not willing to, to DFA the guy
- 5:09and say, well, well, I say that purely based off potential for
- 5:14performance. I'm not talking about the, the,
- 5:17the behind closed doors, the seemingly bad blood here that
- 5:21exists between the two parties. I know that plays a factor and
- 5:25possibly a bigger factor than maybe we're we're giving credit
- 5:28or giving credence to, but just just purely off of just just
- 5:35purely talking potential for talent.
- 5:37Cause again, late start to the season did not pan out well.
- 5:42Did not have a, a, a good season whatsoever.
- 5:47But if you get the Montgomery that was rightfully so, seeking
- 5:54a a pretty substantial contract prior to the 2024 season, then
- 6:00we're looking at something completely different.
- 6:02Yeah. Because if you get that Jordan
- 6:05Montgomery, you. Get the Rangers in the
- 6:08occasional Yankee. Jordan Montgomery, Yeah.
- 6:14And the Jordan Montgomery that felt he was so good that he
- 6:17could turn down. Playing in Boston, mind you.
- 6:20But that's a different story for a different day.
- 6:22Yeah, the, the 22 five is like it's a tough number because 22
- 6:26five is like I'm banking on you being a, a, a one or two in the
- 6:32rotation. I would say, I mean, probably
- 6:35two, yeah, 22, five isn't. That's a chunk of change for a
- 6:41lot of teams. That's a chunk of change.
- 6:44Now say, say he goes back to form.
- 6:53If I'm a Red Sox, Cubs, Mets and I'll give you 1 top 15 prospect
- 7:20and you eat and the Diamondbacks have to eat half that contract,
- 7:24why not? And he slots into the rotation
- 7:28as a back end guy for 11 million.
- 7:35That makes a lot more sense. If you're the Diamondbacks, say,
- 7:38all right, I'll pay $11 million for a top 15 prospect.
- 7:43That's kind of how you have to look at it.
- 7:45Maybe a big league ready guy, maybe a quadruple a guy as a
- 7:52kicker. That's interesting.
- 7:58There's a lot of teams that would do that.
- 8:00It just depends on how much the Diamondbacks are willing to eat.
- 8:04I don't know. The higher that prospect, the
- 8:05less money they're eating in mind.
- 8:07Sure, sure. The I mean I'm I'm.
- 8:11Higher ranking. Lower ranking.
- 8:14I I get what you're saying. You got.
- 8:16Me the the comments from Ken Kendrick, though, just I I can't
- 8:23shake those man where he'd called it.
- 8:25What did he say? It was the worst decision or a a
- 8:30terrible. Decision.
- 8:31One of the worst decisions. I mean, how do you say that I
- 8:36need to go? I want to go back and find this
- 8:38quote. It's a tough one.
- 8:40It's a tough pill to swallow. How in the world do you say that
- 8:44about a guy that has the potential to stick around in
- 8:48your franchise? Like this isn't a guy you kick
- 8:50to the curb. This isn't a guy that has been
- 8:53removed from baseball, hasn't seen a diamond in 5-6 years.
- 8:58Like he's yeah, he's not like. He's not 39, you know.
- 9:01He's quite literally here, right here in front of you.
- 9:04Yeah. It's a tough look.
- 9:08What did he say? It reminds me the old days,
- 9:10though I will say that it brings me back a little bit.
- 9:14That I'll, I'll, I'll give you, yeah.
- 9:16A little more candid, you know, where we actually like heard the
- 9:23the true feelings of someone that's in the front office,
- 9:27whether they're an owner, GM, whatever.
- 9:30Those days are dead. I miss those days.
- 9:32I want someone to be blunt, say what we're thinking.
- 9:36We've gotten to this era, this generation, where like, our
- 9:39fandom is better accurately describing the situation than
- 9:47the team Two politically correct.
- 9:54Be blunt. He said looking back in
- 9:57hindsight, a horrible decision to invest that money in a guy
- 10:00who performed as as poorly as he did.
- 10:03It's our biggest mistake this season from a talent standpoint.
- 10:06And I'm the perpetrator of that. I mean, that's that's
- 10:09Steinbrenner vibes. It is and not the current
- 10:12Steinbrenner. No, not that.
- 10:14No, George. In terms of, in terms of teams,
- 10:20though, you did you, you threw out the Mets and that was
- 10:24actually a team that I had written down.
- 10:26Because I mean, I, I don't have the career numbers or, or
- 10:33trajectories in front of me or data points, but a name that
- 10:38comes to mind that could maybe see a similar or that we've seen
- 10:46already have the outcome that the team was hoping for.
- 10:50Sean Maniah, If you have a guy like Jordan Montgomery, get into
- 10:53the Mets lab, figure some things out, start on time, have a, a, a
- 10:58normal length spring training. Because we're seeing more and
- 11:02more the, the necessity of that and the, the impact that that
- 11:05can have on a season, whether good or bad.
- 11:10If you can get the get in there in the Mets lab, we could be
- 11:13looking at sort of like a a Maniah turn around and and mind
- 11:19you, I I say this understanding that Jordan like this isn't a
- 11:25thing where Jordan Montgomery has gone like seasons without
- 11:29seeing success. We're only talking like a year
- 11:32ago. So I'm not I'm not I'm not
- 11:35saying that like Jordan Montgomery is like he's he's
- 11:38coming in on a wing and a prayer trying to figure things out for
- 11:41the for the remainder of his career, hoping he can stay in
- 11:43the league. But like you, you would hope
- 11:46that wherever he he ends up, that he's able to get in there,
- 11:48make some tweaks if necessary and and and get back on the
- 11:52horse. And I think the Mets could maybe
- 11:54be a team that does that. I also have the Rangers written
- 11:57down because I think a. Reunion.
- 12:00I mean, why? Why not it you you found success
- 12:03there? What Whatever you were
- 12:06incorporating, whatever you were implementing in terms of your
- 12:09approach, your mechanics obviously worked.
- 12:12And let's not forget that I think Jordan Montgomery is going
- 12:16to be rather motivated this year, having gone through the
- 12:20whole, the whole bore situation, having to deal with this Ken
- 12:25Kendrick nonsense. Like you want to be able to
- 12:27shake that stigma a little bit because the reality of it is, is
- 12:30whether or not you agree with Ken Kendrick, these things were
- 12:34said and this is sort of the narrow narrative slash storyline
- 12:39that's kind of following you around.
- 12:41It's a little bit of a stink. And I, I think for those reasons
- 12:45and, and probably more that Jordan Montgomery is going to
- 12:48want to come out and then reassert himself as a, you know,
- 12:53middle of the, a strong middle of the rotation option.
- 12:57Yeah, it's true. When you look at I'm just
- 13:01looking through like free agent starting pitchers and like price
- 13:08wise, I is it realistic? Say the Diamondbacks lead half.
- 13:14Is that crazy? That's probably, that's probably
- 13:17the expectation. They're not, they're not eating
- 13:19the whole. I mean, of course you get if you
- 13:21get into like DFA waters, we're talking different things.
- 13:24But if they, if they were like, hey, we found a suitor, we're
- 13:28willing to to eat fill in the blank.
- 13:30I think the number that you can fill in there is probably have
- 13:34like that's, that's probably a fair.
- 13:35Expectation like for $11 million, it's a year.
- 13:40It's not like you're committing multiple years to this.
- 13:43It's one year, that's it set to be a free agent next year.
- 13:48So when you go down the list of free agents, you get a 40 year
- 13:52old Max Scherzer that's going to be more than 11,000,000 anyway.
- 13:58Verlander 41 you're, you're, if you're not putting this
- 14:04conversation in the Patrick Corbin conversation, I, I think
- 14:10Patrick Corbin's 35, Jordan Montgomery's 32 right?
- 14:15So I would say, all right, that's fair.
- 14:18Charlie Morton 41, I think Nathan Ievaldi is going to get
- 14:23multiple years. So that's not happening.
- 14:25Frankie Montas maybe fits into that same category.
- 14:28So see what they're projecting. So Frankie Montas had 16,000,000
- 14:35AAV on his last contract. I think that goes down.
- 14:40You're in that category of like you're, you're taking a risk.
- 14:45These are names you're going to take a risk with, right?
- 14:48I think Sean and I earned himself multiple years on his
- 14:51next contract. Shane Bieber, I think it's more
- 14:55than 11 and a half million. Flaherty's more than that,
- 15:00probably multiple years, Jose Quintana older than that.
- 15:04So like overall there could be a lot of reward here and there's
- 15:12not a a lot of names free agent wise that you could get a one
- 15:19year deal of that dollar amount in my mind.
- 15:26That's fair. Yeah.
- 15:27I I. Would with that high of a
- 15:28ceiling, you know what I'm saying with that, with that
- 15:30like, like that potential attached to it.
- 15:34I think a lot of those names I mentioned, you know who they are
- 15:37and you're not willing to to risk that.
- 15:42But again, like if you get that Jordan Montgomery who is with
- 15:45the Rangers, then you get someone who's at times can be
- 15:50dominant and he's filling in a spot in your rotation at the
- 15:544-5. He's eating 140 innings and
- 16:01giving you some quality starts. Like for 11,000,000 bucks in the
- 16:05top 20 prospect, maybe maybe 2 prospects.
- 16:12That ain't that bad. That ain't that bad.
- 16:17Could also look at like your own team and say here's a, you know,
- 16:21here's a we want to offload a little bit of money and send
- 16:24that back to Arizona. I don't know what Arizona is
- 16:27like. I don't know what the
- 16:28Diamondbacks are really needing as far as spots go.
- 16:35But ultimately though, we we can pretty much assume that he will
- 16:39not be starting for the Diamondbacks in 2025, correct?
- 16:43I mean that that's a fair assumption.
- 16:45You, you just don't, you just don't come back from this.
- 16:47I'm not saying that you can't, you can't, you know, gentleman's
- 16:50handshake, you know, kind of talk things through and and come
- 16:54to a sort of a resolution. But like that he he wasn't
- 16:59talking about the way the guy dresses.
- 17:01Like he quite literally said that this was one of the worst
- 17:04decisions he had made. That's even even if you're able
- 17:07to reconcile that. I just don't know if I want to
- 17:10be a part of that organization anymore.
- 17:14I agree. If you're the Red Sox, I think
- 17:16you go and get this done. There were rumors attached last
- 17:19sawseason to him. I'd rather not, honestly.
- 17:22Like I, I know I've, I've made jokes about it, but the whole
- 17:26like not wanting to pitch for the Red Sox because he wanted to
- 17:29win thing. Like I can respect it, but I'm
- 17:31all like, I'm a little like, I'm a little petty and I'm like, you
- 17:33know, I don't, I don't, I don't want that mindset.
- 17:36I don't like, I don't want that mentality from that particular
- 17:39individual coming back to Boston and, or I should say coming to
- 17:43Boston. And more importantly, I, I think
- 17:46hopefully the Red Sox have their eyes on bigger prizes in terms
- 17:51of specifically pitching. Like I, I know that somehow
- 17:55they've been linked to Juan Soto.
- 17:57They've they've got a meeting set up.
- 17:58I'm not talking about offensively, but I'm saying on
- 18:02a, from a pitching standpoint, they know that that's a weakness
- 18:04right now and that they need to shore that rotation up a little
- 18:07bit. And so I don't, I don't even
- 18:10want to settle for a guy like Jordan Montgomery.
- 18:12I would rather set my sights on some of these bigger names, like
- 18:15a Max Freed who we talked about who I think would be a much
- 18:17better outfit for the team. Anyway.
- 18:19Fair. Speaking of Max Freed, let's,
- 18:24let's talk. And at least here, Alec Bohm
- 18:29reported that Alec Bohm is on the trading block.
- 18:33What? Was the quote.
- 18:34It was like we're shaking things up, shaking our roster up a
- 18:37little bit, something like that. Jeff Passan might get that
- 18:40right. I Jeff, forgive me.
- 18:42I don't know why I called you Pasan.
- 18:44I've never said that. We've been doing this for years,
- 18:46and I don't think I've ever said Pasan.
- 18:48I apologize, Jeff. My bad.
- 18:51Jeff Passan, Alec Bohm Third baseman Coming off a career best
- 18:56season, the 20 year old Bohm nonetheless finds himself on the
- 18:58trade block. While he was a well above
- 19:00average hitter. Slash 280-330-2448 with 61 extra
- 19:04base hits, his first half OPS was nearly 150 points higher
- 19:08than in the second-half. And the Phillies are looking to
- 19:10shake up their team after disappointing postseason ouster
- 19:14by the Mets. That's a weird way to phrase it.
- 19:19And I saw a lot of the people in agreement there.
- 19:21They're like, just just because the the postseason didn't go the
- 19:28way you wanted to and like, I'll be it against the Mets.
- 19:30I, I understand maybe the frustration added on by the fact
- 19:35that it was the Mets. It, it just doesn't make sense
- 19:40to me that you would part ways with the guy like this who I
- 19:44feel like, yeah, he's had his ups and downs, but he's had his
- 19:46moments of redemption. And I feel like all things
- 19:49considered, that the fan base has has gotten to a point where
- 19:52they've latched on to him and. He's he kind of seems like a fan
- 19:56favorite to me, yeah. And he, he show, he's shown you
- 19:59that he has offensive tools that that you can definitely work
- 20:02with and that you would, I would imagine want in your lineup
- 20:06night in and night out. So it's like, why are we here?
- 20:09And we'll, we'll touch on the Bregman thing, but it's like,
- 20:11why are we hearing, you know, clamorings for, for Bregman to
- 20:17Philly when it's like. You have a guy that still has
- 20:20some control. He's not even.
- 20:23How old is he? 28 he's got two more years of
- 20:28control and you're not going to you're not going to have to come
- 20:35close to that Bregman price tag and you can like your, your team
- 20:40is ready to win right now. So you can allocate that money
- 20:43or, or you can, you know, instead of trading Bohm, signing
- 20:48Bregman and, and handcuffing yourself to that extent, why not
- 20:52just keep the guy that you have for two, two additional years
- 20:56who again, seems like a fan favorite, But maybe there's
- 20:59Phillies fans that disagree. And then you can you can maybe
- 21:03make some additions elsewhere to to shore up any holes around
- 21:06your. Your it seems.
- 21:07It seems like it's it's. Short sighted is what it.
- 21:11Seems like it's not a hole and it's so the way Dombrowski
- 21:18operates though, like he's going to, he's going to Max out the
- 21:21credit cards and and do what he can to win now.
- 21:24And I mean, don't get me wrong, do I believe Alex Bregman right
- 21:27now is an upgrade from Alec Bom? Yes, but.
- 21:33Can I share some numbers with you?
- 21:34Sure. Oh, finish that thought.
- 21:36Finish that thought. But I just I like you said
- 21:38Control fan favorite can play the corners, He can play first
- 21:42base when Bryce Harper's DH ING. So you give him those half day
- 21:45offs. Like it's just odd to me.
- 21:55It's odd to me. I feel like they need a little
- 21:57bit more depth in the rotation. I feel like they could probably
- 22:01use another bat. Bregman did come out and say
- 22:05that he's willing to play second too.
- 22:11I don't know. Yeah.
- 22:14I like bum. I I've always liked bum so I
- 22:19don't know well. I mean, I, I know it was a
- 22:22little fuzzy there when the whole like I hated here or like,
- 22:27but that, I mean, at that point that was, yeah, that was at this
- 22:29point, that was years ago. People got over it.
- 22:31And like, it's understandable, man.
- 22:32Playing in Philly can't exactly be fun all the time.
- 22:36Like, I get it. People like when, when things
- 22:38are going well, Philly's great. Nobody's got your back better
- 22:42than Philly fans. I I understand that.
- 22:44But when things are going poorly, like they literally made
- 22:46a mini doc about the whole Trey Turner redemption story like
- 22:53that shows you how bad things can get If things aren't going
- 22:56well. And, and you know, whether it's
- 22:58a team from a team perspective or an individual player
- 23:00perspective, like it, it probably gets pretty miserable
- 23:03there. But like I said, I think I, I
- 23:08feel like most people got over that and that he's sort of
- 23:11endeared himself to the fans. But those numbers that I was
- 23:14going to mention, I saw I saw a graphic earlier and I snagged it
- 23:18so I wouldn't forget it. Alec Baum versus Alex Bregman
- 23:24dating back to 2023. I mean, I won't read you every
- 23:29single number here, but essentially over those two you
- 23:32over that two year span, Bregman has 314 hits to Baum's 308.
- 23:38Bregman has 51 homers to Bohm's 35.
- 23:41Bohm has 194. RB is to Bregman's 173.
- 23:47Bohm hit 277 to Bregman's 261. Bregman.
- 23:52Oh I'm sorry, the slash. Bohm went 277-320-9442 and
- 23:58Bregman went 261-340-1446 and then the OPS.
- 24:04Bohm was 112 or OPS plus. Excuse me 112 to Bregman's 120.
- 24:11So like. There's not enough of a gap.
- 24:14That's what I'm saying. That's what I'm saying.
- 24:18Especially, I mean, I like Bryson stock too, but especially
- 24:25if Bregman's willing to play second.
- 24:31If you're telling me keep two out of three between Stop Bohm
- 24:34and Bregman, I'm I'm taking Bregman and Baum.
- 24:39Scott is the odd man out there for me.
- 24:41That's fair, yeah. Do we feel like that whole
- 24:45Bregman thing is sort of like a last resort thing if it means
- 24:49something working out? Because I would adventure say
- 24:52he, he, he would probably hesitate to move to second.
- 25:00He he would do it. It sounds like that.
- 25:02I mean, that's the report that came out.
- 25:03He would be willing to move to 2nd, but I have to assume that
- 25:06that's the type of guy that would want to stick it third if
- 25:08at all possible. You think it's one of those
- 25:11conversations that just like trying to earn just that a few
- 25:16extra bucks or get a couple more people into the a couple more
- 25:19teams in the conversation to raise the price.
- 25:21Yeah. I mean, I at the end of the day,
- 25:23I, I don't see Bregman at least in the next just call it the end
- 25:28until Bom's a free agent. I don't, I don't see in the next
- 25:32two years, I don't see Bregman moving to 2nd.
- 25:40What other suitors do you have for him for BOM?
- 25:46Like where? Where would you?
- 25:48Where could you see BOM going if they do move on?
- 25:52I mean, we're talking about this Bregman thing I've seen
- 25:54essentially. I mean it it obviously would be
- 25:56yeah, it's not like a one for one in terms of a transaction.
- 25:59But like, yeah, I could see a boom to Houston and Bregman to
- 26:04Philly if that's what ends up happening.
- 26:07But I don't know, like I feel like I see Bregman saying put in
- 26:15Houston, I don't feel yeah, I just don't feel great about the
- 26:24breadth of suitors for him. And just with his, you know,
- 26:31with his connection to to that team and his back story there,
- 26:35that could be hard to harder to ship him out than than anybody
- 26:41else if you're the Astros. Well, minus Altuve, but.
- 26:49Say the Phillies miss out on on Bregman, would you do a deal for
- 26:58Arnotto? If you're the Phillies, send
- 27:01Balm and something else there. How old?
- 27:04'S arnotto at this point. 3433. 33.
- 27:18Make the Cardinals eat some of that.
- 27:19He'll be 34 in April. The Rockies are eating a lot of
- 27:23it still, but. True.
- 27:28Yeah, well, I'm, I'm personally, I'm never going to say no to a
- 27:31guy like Nolan. I know, but.
- 27:35Does that make sense? I don't know.
- 27:41I. Don't know if it makes a ton of
- 27:45sense for Cardinals to do that. It feels like Arnotto's being
- 27:50shopped to get Jordan Walker back to 3rd and let Jordan
- 27:55Walker just kind of move into what the Cardinals expect him to
- 28:01be. He's not a right fielder.
- 28:04It's been bad. You're saying sorry, you're
- 28:10saying Nolan Arnotto's being shopped.
- 28:13Yeah, I think, I think. The for the purpose, for the
- 28:16purpose of Jordan Walker, Yeah, yeah.
- 28:19Yeah. So, you know, if you're if if
- 28:22you're the Phils, I mean, I'm going to go ahead and just say
- 28:28last year was AI. Don't think that's the real
- 28:35Nolan. I don't think that's the Nolan
- 28:41at this stage in his career. Does he end up like that on a
- 28:45more consistent basis? Maybe in a few years, sure, But
- 28:49I don't think we've reached that point yet.
- 28:52Last year he had 16 homers, hit 272 with an OPS of 719 League
- 28:57average with OPS plus at one O 1.
- 29:00Going back to the Phillies, I think this is just a weird thing
- 29:03to say pre potential Bregman signing.
- 29:08Now do you sign Bregman and then start shopping?
- 29:10Boom, sure, it's just a weird thing to come out and say
- 29:19putting all your eggs in the Bregman basket.
- 29:22If you don't get him now you just have a pissed off player
- 29:27who the fans seem to like. I could.
- 29:32I think you and I are right about that.
- 29:34We could be wrong. Phillies fans, if you're in the
- 29:37chat let us know. But like, I don't know if
- 29:43there's anything wrong with that relationship.
- 29:46I don't know, though, maybe, and I'm not saying they're, they're
- 29:49intentionally trying to push his buttons, but with the with the
- 29:53way that his early career has gone in Philly, he I feel like
- 29:56he's grown a little bit and I don't know, like maybe this does
- 30:02push the right buttons. If they don't, if they don't get
- 30:05Bregman, if he's the, if he's the starting third baseman for
- 30:08the Philadelphia Phillies in 2025, I I could potentially see
- 30:14him responding to this actually surprisingly well.
- 30:17Like you might you. I mean, yeah, you may.
- 30:20Like you said, you may have a pissed off bone, but maybe
- 30:24that's a good thing. How about Toronto?
- 30:35They've been hurting a little bit at their base.
- 30:43I mean, I I'd probably put to again, if the Bregman thing
- 30:46doesn't pan out, I would. I probably put Houston at the
- 30:50top of the list, but because there's something to be desired
- 30:56there with Boom. Yeah, yeah.
- 30:58I like him. I think there's I think there's
- 31:00a lot of potential. He's young, controlled.
- 31:03It's odd. Can play first base.
- 31:04Yeah, has shown at times. I mean he's he led the league in
- 31:08hitting for that was a better part of two months.
- 31:12Yeah, at the very least, like a month, month and a half.
- 31:15Yeah. I mean, he was.
- 31:16So you know what's in there. He was tearing it up.
- 31:19That's what I'm saying. I I think as he matures, as he
- 31:22gets more experience under his belt, like I, I just hope for
- 31:27the Phillies sake that they don't regret this decision.
- 31:32Because I feel like we're potentially on the brink of
- 31:36something big with a guy like Bone.
- 31:38And I would just hate for them to to be kicking themselves
- 31:42after the fact if he ends up elsewhere.
- 31:46Yeah, Speaking of ending up somewhere elsewhere, Tropicana
- 31:51Field, not in great shape, in case you heard, just got
- 31:57shredded by Hurricane Milton. And the Rays, it was announced
- 32:01today, will be playing their home games in the actual Tampa,
- 32:13in the actual city of Tampa, at George M Steinbrenner Field,
- 32:21spring training home of the New York Yankees.
- 32:26Weird, Really weird. There's what they can't get.
- 32:29They can't get it repaired in time.
- 32:33It's either that or the Rays are just not willing to fork over
- 32:37that money all at once. You know, because it it would,
- 32:40it would run them about 56 mil to replace to, to make those
- 32:45repairs. Yeah, 56 mil.
- 32:48Well, you got to make them. What do you, what else are they
- 32:51going to do? They're going to play at
- 32:52Steinbrenner Field the whole year.
- 32:56That's the plan. Yeah, I thought it was just home
- 32:58opener. No dude, this is the whole
- 33:01season. This is their home game.
- 33:03Like why was? There a whole why would?
- 33:06They Where did you hear one home opener game?
- 33:09I I thought it was like the opening, like their opening
- 33:11series. Yeah, the construction crews
- 33:15like, hey guys, we can do like we can have this thing ready by
- 33:20like April 3rd, but those few days before, like that open
- 33:25series, you're gonna have to figure it.
- 33:27Out like a 10 day road trip after the open you're gonna.
- 33:30Have to figure it out. April 3rd is the the best we can
- 33:33do. That's best case and and that's
- 33:34if we sign the papers right now, no, but it'll be they'll.
- 33:38Be ready. They'll be, yeah.
- 33:42Dang, three games versus 81 games.
- 33:46Yeah, the the repair should be ready by 2026 is what they're
- 33:50saying. Wild Yanks are getting
- 33:5715,000,000 bucks. Stupid.
- 34:02Absolutely stupid. Why?
- 34:03I think it's a good amount. I just.
- 34:10How if you're listening to this, raise payroll by 15,000,000 this
- 34:14year just cause of that, you know, be willing to be willing
- 34:17to fork over some some cash this offseason thanks to the Rays.
- 34:25Well, stupid. Yet another team being
- 34:29displaced. So we're going to have what,
- 34:31Sacramento A's? We're going to have the
- 34:33Steinbrenner Rays. No, no, no, no, no.
- 34:36We're not going to have the Sacramento A's.
- 34:38It's just the A's. Right.
- 34:40But they're going to they're going to be in Sacramento
- 34:42playing at a different field and then you're going to have the
- 34:45Steinbrenner raise. That's got to be insane, dude.
- 34:52Well I mean it is basically a Yankees home game whenever they
- 34:57play Yankees in Tampa, so might as well just move it to the
- 35:03Yankees facility. This is so weird.
- 35:06Ryan Yeah, what is Major League Baseball in 2025?
- 35:09I don't understand. Ryan Spader on Twitter said the
- 35:11Rays average 16,515 fans per game in 2024.
- 35:16Simon Renner Field has a Max capacity of 11,000 and 26
- 35:20sellouts are coming to Tampa. Hello.
- 35:24On that note, and I was thinking about this earlier, on that
- 35:27note, can we normalize? I mean, it's, I know it's not
- 35:32something you can just flip a switch on overnight, but like
- 35:37moving forward, and I know this, I know this isn't going to
- 35:40happen. So I don't even know why I'm
- 35:41saying this. But can like can smaller venues
- 35:44become more of the norm? Like there's.
- 35:47Something. There's something just more more
- 35:50intimate. More intimate.
- 35:52Yes, that's the word I'm looking for.
- 35:54There's something more intimate. I, I was looking around at some,
- 35:58some attendance numbers or capacity numbers I should say.
- 36:02And I think the number, the number that I settled on just
- 36:08based on one, the, the stadiums that I've been to like
- 36:13personally that are, are comparable.
- 36:16And two, just, you know, seeing the games from afar, seeing the
- 36:22games on TV and, and sort of getting a feel for it that way.
- 36:26I feel like the number that I capped my ideal venue at was
- 36:34like, I would go like 38. 38,030.
- 36:47Like no more than 38. Where does?
- 36:52Fenway Hold 28. No.
- 36:55Fenway is 37. Kaufman is 37.
- 37:00Basically 38 targets 38 five Loan Depot's 37 Progressive the
- 37:07smallest field in baseball 34 It's.
- 37:10Kind of weird that Kaufman holds that that few Yeah in such a big
- 37:15ballpark. But like 38 seems like a A.
- 37:20That's a sweet spot. Because I get tired of watching
- 37:22base and I understand it's a business, but like I just get
- 37:24tired of watching baseball games where like the upper bowls are
- 37:27like completely empty. Like you're not going to make
- 37:31that money anyway. So like at least at least go for
- 37:34the sell out experience, you know, create a little bit of
- 37:37demand there. There's probably probably a
- 37:38little old business lesson to be learned there.
- 37:43I don't know, I'm not a businessman, but like 38 seems
- 37:46like a good number. Yeah, the Rays still can't get
- 37:50there. No.
- 37:52Yeah, even if it was 38. Maybe that is actually in Tampa.
- 37:56This will help, but good stuff, good stuff.
- 38:03Tampa Bay Rays. I don't even know if they're
- 38:05going to be getting sellouts at 11,000 though.
- 38:11Because when are when are they leaving?
- 38:12When is the when's the lease up the Tropicana?
- 38:17What is that 20 The 2020? 8 So are they just?
- 38:28This is a bad. This is a bad day to look that
- 38:30up because every result is. True, I'm understanding.
- 38:34Are I wonder if they're just you like refusing to make this
- 38:38repair and using it as like leverage to get out of this
- 38:46lease sooner? Opening day 2028.
- 38:56Yeah, I was right. That's when it ends.
- 39:01No, like opening day, 2028 will be in the new park.
- 39:06Gotcha. But yeah, that's a valid
- 39:08thought. That whole situation's weird
- 39:10anyway. It's like the Rays have to know
- 39:12that their stadium sucks. And why are we getting this like
- 39:17a month after the hurricane, maybe more?
- 39:21It's been a while. Yeah, maybe if maybe if we would
- 39:26have found this out couple weeks ago, these construction crews
- 39:29maybe could have bumped up that April 3rd timeline like hey, we
- 39:33can't don't worry about finding a home for opening weekend.
- 39:37We we got you covered. Yeah, I don't know.
- 39:49Me neither. Is that it?
- 39:53That's all we got. Just.
- 39:54A couple more items here. Super quick, Travis.
- 39:57Darn, no. This is a crazy time to use
- 40:06this. This is wild.
- 40:15Signed A2 year, $12 million contract with the Los Angeles
- 40:22Angels. Two years. $12 million.
- 40:28So the Darnell era in Atlanta has come to an end.
- 40:36I'm going to go ahead and say this is just, you know,
- 40:39protecting Logan O Hoppy Hoppy. I think he's probably a top ten
- 40:47catcher in baseball at this moment right meow.
- 40:52Maybe get him off his feet a little bit.
- 40:55Worst case scenario, someone at the deadline needs a veteran
- 41:00catcher to be filled. It's a budget move.
- 41:03Trade him on over. Not bad.
- 41:09Not a bad pickup. Mindy, this is the angels.
- 41:14What 3rd move I believe thus far maybe, maybe one other minor
- 41:20like smaller deal, but they've added Kyle Hendricks as we I
- 41:24believe we covered briefly and then also Jorge Solaire.
- 41:28Sneaky move Jorge Solaire, very under the radar.
- 41:32I agree. And lastly here, the Silver
- 41:36Sluggers were announced earlier this week.
- 41:40No, no sense in going through all of them by name, but just a
- 41:43couple takeaways. 14 teams had at least one Silver Slugger
- 41:49winner, 7 first time winners, and two players took home their
- 41:567th Silver Slugger. Do you know the two players
- 41:59putting it on the spot here? Two players that took home their
- 42:027th. 7th I was I was shocked at one of them.
- 42:12The other one I it made sense. I mean, they both make sense,
- 42:14but the one I I I'm like man, I'm old.
- 42:19I am old if. That's the case.
- 42:25There's 7th. Again, completely put you on the
- 42:30spot. Here Jose Ramirez?
- 42:35Nope. Although I think he was up
- 42:42there, he was. He got like 5-6.
- 42:50Lindor. 5th time, yeah, no, it the one the one that I was less
- 42:58surprised about Jose Altubey, like that makes sense.
- 43:05But the one that surprised me, 7 Mookie Betts, and not because I
- 43:10don't think he's capable of of earning heck, a dozen silver
- 43:15Sluggers. That's not the point.
- 43:16I'm just like, my goodness, this man has been not just that, but
- 43:22he's been dominant for a minute now.
- 43:25At this point, I'm just like my good.
- 43:27Where does the time go? Unbelievable.
- 43:30Hard to believe it's he's he's not 7 already.
- 43:35So yeah, I think. What?
- 43:36What did he go in as? Right fielder.
- 43:40Yeah, or no utility, utility. That's unfair to the rest of the
- 43:47utility guys, I feel like. Yeah, it's an easy one.
- 43:51Well, easy dub. Mind you, he was the Dodgers
- 43:56forever. Everyday permanent shortstop,
- 44:01temporarily no matter what for the time being until we change
- 44:05our mind. But don't count on it.
- 44:07But there's the possibility. And and we're going to change
- 44:11our mind again and move him back.
- 44:12And he's coming back. Yeah.
- 44:15But it's possible he may say time will tell.
- 44:17Don't know, but count on it. I don't.
- 44:21Yeah. That's that's the state of the
- 44:24personnel situation in in LA. But they're they're not worried
- 44:29about that whatsoever. The next award we got on deck,
- 44:33what are the, what is the next award?
- 44:37Would that be the Cy Young? Rolaid's reliever of the year.
- 44:43Or no, maybe Rookie of the Year. Possibly Rookie of the Year will
- 44:50be November 18th, Manners of the year November 19th, MVP November
- 44:5621st and or I'm, I'm sorry, Cy Young November 20th and then MVP
- 45:01November 21st. So Next up we got the Rookies of
- 45:08the Year. Who do you got for that?
- 45:13Do you remember who have what? Who like who did I predict or?
- 45:19Yeah, from hot takes. Let's see here, let's pull out
- 45:25the old handy dandy graphic. I know I didn't get it right, I
- 45:33can tell you that. Much.
- 45:36Yeah, me neither. Good guess is looking back on
- 45:41it. What?
- 45:42What did I? What did I go with?
- 45:44I don't know what you went with. I had Wyatt Langford and Junghoo
- 45:47Lee. I doubled down.
- 45:54On that dude, the photo apps. The photo apps with the iPhone
- 45:58updates sucks. I can't figure anything out.
- 46:01How do I get to my favorites? Oh yeah, those are gone.
- 46:07They don't exist anymore. No, they exist, but no.
- 46:10Apple said no. What is happening?
- 46:15Apple said good luck. Scroll back to Here We Go,
- 46:20February. Yeah, I got it.
- 46:22Rookies. A year for me, Evan Carter and
- 46:26Yoshinobu Yamamoto. Injuries plagued them both.
- 46:37What can I say? Pretty sure it's going to be
- 46:40Jackson, Merrill and the AL. The AL is interesting.
- 46:49I don't know. Well, no, soon enough.
- 46:55And then last closing thought here, did you by chance see that
- 46:59WFAN is about to pick up Dave Sims, friend of the pod, former
- 47:05guest really, to replace John Sterling?
- 47:09Did you see this? No.
- 47:11Yeah, news came out. Actually, it makes sense.
- 47:14I think you were wrapping up work today, but news came out
- 47:17not too long ago. It said that they're closing in
- 47:19on making him their new guy. Oh.
- 47:21My. And that would be the Yankees if
- 47:25you're unfamiliar with. Dave Sims, true professional,
- 47:29that man knows what he'd be doing.
- 47:33Some legendary calls I will say, and as I mentioned, former
- 47:37guests on this on this podcast, so no big deal.
- 47:40Go back and check it out. It's a good that was a good
- 47:42interview. That's excellent.
- 47:44I like that, really like that. Wonder how he's going to do with
- 47:50Susan. Him and Susan together.
- 47:54Seems like, I mean, he's a personable guy.
- 47:56He's yeah, he'll he'll fit in just fine there.
- 48:01Yeah. And he love, if you remember, he
- 48:03loves telling his stories. And yeah, he's a he loves
- 48:06baseball. So you give him a platform like
- 48:09the Yankees or or I guess a franchise, I should say.
- 48:13You give him a franchise like the Yankees where he can just.
- 48:15He'll have to work with. Nerd out about stories and
- 48:19connections he's got. He's going to love that he's
- 48:21going to. That's a good fit.
- 48:23I like him there. Well, I don't like that he's
- 48:26there, but by by society, I think it's a good fit.
- 48:31Sweet. It's all I got.
- 48:35Good stuff everybody have a good weekend.
- 48:39Let's get after it. I'm going to make some homemade
- 48:42pizza tonight. Try again.
- 48:46I got that thing, that shovel thing, so I can spin it in
- 48:51there. You know what I'm talking about.
- 48:54Oh yeah, as long as you don't light it on fire this time.
- 48:57I. Forget what they call it.
- 48:59I ordered it on Amazon. Call it something else.
- 49:03It's a weird word. It's a word you wouldn't expect.
- 49:10Peel. It's a pizza peel.
- 49:12Pizza Peel P EE. L Anyway, updates later.
- 49:21Don't go chasing curveballs. Love you all as always, looking
- 49:24forward to talking more baseball with you guys soon.
- 49:26Until next time, stay filthy.
