- 0:05Speaker 1: NFL Now is a production of the NFL in partnership
- 0:08Speaker 1: with iHeartRadio.
- 0:19Speaker 2: Hello and welcome into NFL Now, presented by Ikia. I'm
- 0:24Speaker 2: Omar Race. In the NFL Network newsroom. We are now
- 0:27Speaker 2: six days away from Kansas City hosting the first round
- 0:31Speaker 2: of the NFL Draft. We have Georgia Tech prospect Keon
- 0:35Speaker 2: why To, projected first rounder.
- 0:37Speaker 3: He's set to join us.
- 0:38Speaker 2: We have all the news and notes you want to
- 0:40Speaker 2: get to about the NFL Draft, including three of the
- 0:44Speaker 2: top ten picks holding their pre draft press conferences today,
- 0:47Speaker 2: including Chris Ballard and the Indianapolis Colts.
- 0:50Speaker 3: You hear from him in just a little bit. But
- 0:51Speaker 3: first we start with some.
- 0:52Speaker 2: Breaking news into NFL Network. This from the league office.
- 0:56Speaker 2: The NFL has suspended five players for violating the league's
- 1:00Speaker 2: gambling policy, including the Detroit Lions one of their two
- 1:05Speaker 2: first round picks a year ago, Jamison Williams.
- 1:08Speaker 3: He's been suspended for six games. Here is the full
- 1:11Speaker 3: list of the five players.
- 1:13Speaker 2: For of them, Detroit Lions Stanley Berryhill, fellow Lions receiver,
- 1:17Speaker 2: also suspended six games. And you have Quintes Cephis, CJ.
- 1:21Speaker 2: Moore and Washington Commander's defensive end Shaka Tony All suspended indefinitely.
- 1:28Speaker 2: You see Quintez Cephis and CJ. Moore have already been
- 1:32Speaker 2: released by the Lions. Here is Detroit Lions statement from
- 1:36Speaker 2: executive vice president and general manager Brad Holmes. As a
- 1:39Speaker 2: result of an NFL investigation, it came to our attention
- 1:42Speaker 2: that a few of our players had violated the league's
- 1:44Speaker 2: gambling policy. These players exhibited decision making that is not
- 1:48Speaker 2: consistent with our organizational values and violates league rules. We
- 1:53Speaker 2: have made the decision to part ways with Quintes and CJ.
- 1:57Speaker 3: Immediately.
- 1:57Speaker 2: You go on to say, we are disappointed by the
- 2:00Speaker 2: decision making demonstrated by Stanley and Jamison, and we'll work
- 2:04Speaker 2: with both those players to ensure they understand the severity
- 2:07Speaker 2: of these violations and have clarity on the league.
- 2:11Speaker 3: Rules moving forward.
- 2:13Speaker 2: For much more on this, we welcome in our NFL
- 2:15Speaker 2: network insiders Tom Pellasero and Mike Garofollo. We thought players
- 2:19Speaker 2: might have gotten the message last year when Calvin Ridley
- 2:22Speaker 2: was suspended for a year.
- 2:23Speaker 3: Tom, apparently that's not the case. What more can you
- 2:26Speaker 3: tell us about this suspension?
- 2:30Speaker 4: Well, much like Calvin Ridley, omar the three players suspended
- 2:33Speaker 4: in definitely for violating the NFL's gambling policy. Were suspended
- 2:38Speaker 4: because they bet on NFL games during the twenty twenty
- 2:42Speaker 4: two season. That is a bright line. NFL players, anyone
- 2:46Speaker 4: with an NFL club or the league offense, cannot bet
- 2:49Speaker 4: on NFL games. Players are permitted to bet on other sports,
- 2:53Speaker 4: but they are not permitted to do so while in
- 2:55Speaker 4: NFL stadiums or facilities, anything associated with the league. That's
- 3:00Speaker 4: what happened with Jamison Williams, who was suspended six games
- 3:04Speaker 4: for betting as our in report report earlier today, on
- 3:07Speaker 4: college games while inside the Lions facility. A couple of
- 3:11Speaker 4: notable things from the NFL. The league said that the
- 3:16Speaker 4: evidence does not show or they have not found any
- 3:18Speaker 4: evidence that any inside information was used in these bets
- 3:23Speaker 4: or that any game was compromised. Still, much like in
- 3:26Speaker 4: the Calvin Ridley situation, Mike, this is a clear message
- 3:30Speaker 4: from the NFL. Gambling is much more readily available. There
- 3:34Speaker 4: are now sportsbooks inside stadiums, You can place bets on
- 3:37Speaker 4: your phone. It does not change the policy here, and
- 3:41Speaker 4: if you are turned in for violating that policy, it
- 3:44Speaker 4: will be swift and significant discipline.
- 3:48Speaker 5: Yes, and much like the Calvin Ridley situation, there was
- 3:52Speaker 5: that electronic evidence. You can't hide from that. So Jamison Williams,
- 3:56Speaker 5: via his agency, has confirmed that yes, he did bet
- 4:01Speaker 5: on NFL games and suspended by the league for six games.
- 4:04Speaker 6: Now.
- 4:04Speaker 3: That's statement from his agency.
- 4:06Speaker 5: Alliance Sports also says, quote, Jamison would never intentionally jeopardize
- 4:11Speaker 5: the integrity of the game he loves so much and
- 4:12Speaker 5: looks forward to getting back to his team as soon
- 4:16Speaker 5: as possible. It also makes that distinction that you were
- 4:19Speaker 5: talking about, Tom, it was not for betting on football,
- 4:21Speaker 5: but rather the location of the bet that was placed,
- 4:25Speaker 5: which is again at the team facility. Cannot use your phone,
- 4:29Speaker 5: You cannot gamble at all at NFL facilities. If you're
- 4:32Speaker 5: a player, you can do that away from the facility.
- 4:35Speaker 5: That I suppose as a luxury that the players have
- 4:38Speaker 5: that other personnel don't have. Remember, Jets coach Miles Austin
- 4:42Speaker 5: was betting on non NFL games. He was doing that
- 4:45Speaker 5: at the facility as well. Coaches, personnel everyone like that
- 4:48Speaker 5: cannot gamble on sports period. Players can, it's just a
- 4:52Speaker 5: matter of where they do it. In this case, Jamison
- 4:54Speaker 5: Williams did it in the wrong place.
- 4:56Speaker 2: Yeah, certainly noteworthy distinction. They're betting on NFL games and
- 5:00Speaker 2: not betting on NFL games. Tom, when you talk about
- 5:02Speaker 2: Baltimore Ravens quarterback situation, we've been focusing all off season
- 5:07Speaker 2: on that, and we have some news about the Baltimore
- 5:09Speaker 2: Ravens quarterbacks room.
- 5:10Speaker 3: What can you tell us about that?
- 5:13Speaker 4: That's right, Omar, the Ravens Pro Bowl quarterback is not
- 5:17Speaker 4: going anywhere. That is, of course, Tyler Snoop Huntley, who
- 5:20Speaker 4: is selected to the Pro Bowl Games one year ago.
- 5:24Speaker 4: He plans, i am told to sign his restricted free
- 5:26Speaker 4: agent tender on Monday. Today is the deadline for restricted
- 5:30Speaker 4: free agents who received the tender to potentially sign an
- 5:33Speaker 4: offer sheet with another club. That is really rare in
- 5:36Speaker 4: the modern NFL, and so Huntley, like the other restricted
- 5:40Speaker 4: free agents this year, albeit guys could still sign them today,
- 5:43Speaker 4: but he is going to end up back with Baltimore.
- 5:45Speaker 4: He's actually already been back in Baltimore. I'm told that
- 5:48Speaker 4: he's been training at the Ravens facility, participating in their
- 5:51Speaker 4: off season program this week, which he's allowed to do
- 5:54Speaker 4: with a waiver. Huntley is actually headed to Tampa this
- 5:57Speaker 4: weekend to throw with some of his teammates. We'll be
- 6:00Speaker 4: back Monday to sign the tender, resume being in the program.
- 6:03Speaker 4: And as for that other quarter back who has played
- 6:05Speaker 4: for the Ravens in recent years, Lamar Jackson on that
- 6:08Speaker 4: franchise tender still not signed.
- 6:11Speaker 2: I laughed when you tweeted it this morning. Tom, I'm
- 6:13Speaker 2: still laughing at that joke, as Steven Isle as it
- 6:16Speaker 2: might be. Mike Garrolfalo, we have just less than a
- 6:20Speaker 2: couple of weeks, now, Is it that bad?
- 6:22Speaker 3: That joke? How Mike?
- 6:23Speaker 7: No, I'm stifling a cough. Let me just get it out.
- 6:26Speaker 3: Okay, go ahead, there you go. We'll set this up here.
- 6:30Speaker 2: Sorry, we have less than a couple of weeks for
- 6:32Speaker 2: first round picks in the twenty twenty NFL Draft to
- 6:34Speaker 2: have their fifth year options exercised. A big name just
- 6:38Speaker 2: got extended, Mike, What more can you tell us about that?
- 6:41Speaker 3: See? This is much better.
- 6:42Speaker 5: I'm not nervous about coffee now. While I'm talking, Ceee Lamb,
- 6:45Speaker 5: the Cowboys wide receiver, the team has picked up his
- 6:48Speaker 5: fifth year.
- 6:49Speaker 2: The Pro Bowl wide receiver for the Dallas.
- 6:52Speaker 3: Well, we know who that is. That's that's Ceedee Lamb.
- 6:54Speaker 5: You know it's like Tom doing his all. See Tom's
- 6:56Speaker 5: already moved on, he's less and he's probably reading his
- 6:58Speaker 5: quarterback story from earlier today, nine thousand words.
- 7:01Speaker 3: Go check that out when you got a chance. Ceedee.
- 7:03Speaker 5: Lamb's fifth year option picked up, So he'll make seventeen
- 7:06Speaker 5: point nine million dollars if we round up, it's actually
- 7:09Speaker 5: eighteen eighteen in twenty twenty four, fully guaranteed.
- 7:14Speaker 3: Yeah, no brainer right here.
- 7:15Speaker 5: I mean, we've got some other fifty year options that
- 7:17Speaker 5: are extremely questionable, including Chase Young with the Commanders, but
- 7:20Speaker 5: this one was an easy one because the Cowboys do
- 7:23Speaker 5: want to sign CD Lamb to a long term extension. Well,
- 7:26Speaker 5: now they've got a number for twenty twenty four to
- 7:28Speaker 5: work off of. So let's see if the sides can
- 7:31Speaker 5: come together on an extension and how quickly they can
- 7:33Speaker 5: do that.
- 7:33Speaker 2: Omark, We're going to break down Tom's article a little
- 7:36Speaker 2: later in the show.
- 7:37Speaker 3: Thanks for plugging that, Mike.
- 7:38Speaker 5: As for the Colts, better save a big segment for it.
- 7:42Speaker 2: He has it all to himself, if I'm not mistaken.
- 7:45Speaker 2: The Colts have the number four pick all to themselves
- 7:48Speaker 2: as of right now.
- 7:48Speaker 3: But will they go quarterback?
- 7:50Speaker 2: Well, Chris Ballard said he's either going to dance around
- 7:53Speaker 2: questions at his pre draft press conference or he's going
- 7:55Speaker 2: to answer them honestly. You can imagine what he decided
- 7:59Speaker 2: to do today.
- 8:01Speaker 3: How much lying do you think goes on right now?
- 8:05Speaker 2: Oh, everybody's lying. I might be the most honest, unfortunately,
- 8:10Speaker 2: but everybody's lying.
- 8:13Speaker 3: I think you know may well enough.
- 8:15Speaker 2: Like usually, if you answer question, I'll either dance around
- 8:18Speaker 2: it or give you an answer. Today, I'm a dancer.
- 8:24Speaker 5: Today, I'm an answer.
- 8:27Speaker 2: Hold me closer, timey dance all right, Tom, Chris Ballard
- 8:31Speaker 2: says he's dancing around these questions.
- 8:33Speaker 3: What can you tell us about the Colts and number four? Well, maar, I.
- 8:38Speaker 4: Think that if you look at the top ten in
- 8:40Speaker 4: this draft, it's a short list of teams that you know,
- 8:42Speaker 4: with virtual certainty you're going to take quarterbacks. Starts at
- 8:45Speaker 4: number one with the Carolina Panthers and the Colts, who
- 8:49Speaker 4: are sitting there at number four. It would be a
- 8:51Speaker 4: shock if they don't go that direction. The question, and
- 8:54Speaker 4: part of the reason Chris Ballard has to dance around
- 8:56Speaker 4: these things is they just don't know what's going to
- 8:58Speaker 4: happen at number two and number three. Now, if you
- 9:02Speaker 4: speak to people within the league, which I have been
- 9:04Speaker 4: doing a lot for that, or you can find at
- 9:05Speaker 4: NFL dot com slash Pelicero, he will find that there
- 9:09Speaker 4: certainly is some belief that Will Levis from Kentucky could
- 9:13Speaker 4: end up being the quarterback. He has run a pro
- 9:16Speaker 4: style offense the last couple of years at Kentucky, influenced
- 9:19Speaker 4: by the Shanahan McVeigh type of a system. He is
- 9:22Speaker 4: a big guy with a big arm. He does have
- 9:24Speaker 4: running ability, although he didn't get to show it a
- 9:26Speaker 4: whole lot last year because he was dealing with injuries
- 9:29Speaker 4: on a really injury and talent depleted type of a
- 9:33Speaker 4: Kentucky offense. But there's also some love for Anthony Richardson
- 9:36Speaker 4: through the course of this process. A classic low ceiling,
- 9:40Speaker 4: high floor, excuse me, low floor, high ceiling type of
- 9:43Speaker 4: a player here. He might profile a little bit more
- 9:45Speaker 4: like Jalen Hurts in terms of the things that you
- 9:47Speaker 4: could do and Shane Stake and d Hurts in Philadelphia
- 9:50Speaker 4: the last couple of years with the run threat in
- 9:52Speaker 4: addition to the pass threat here. But what are the
- 9:54Speaker 4: Texans do at two? Do they in fact pass on
- 9:57Speaker 4: a quarterback and take a defensive player. That would then
- 10:00Speaker 4: put Arizona, which is at number three, in position to
- 10:02Speaker 4: put their pickup forbid for whoever wants to come up
- 10:04Speaker 4: and take the number or two quarterback. All of which
- 10:06Speaker 4: is to say, good reason for Chris Ballard Mike to
- 10:09Speaker 4: remain a dancer today, because if he stops dancing, well,
- 10:13Speaker 4: then it'll be like footloose and everybody will know exactly
- 10:16Speaker 4: what's going on.
- 10:18Speaker 5: I don't know what that metaphor means. Some's gonna take
- 10:22Speaker 5: it and go with it.
- 10:22Speaker 3: And I lost it. I was dancing.
- 10:24Speaker 4: I think he's trying to plane, and then yeah, like
- 10:28Speaker 4: I was so close to having it, and then I
- 10:30Speaker 4: realized I didn't know how it was ending.
- 10:32Speaker 5: So yeah, I'm still worried about the floor versus the
- 10:36Speaker 5: ceiling or whether Michael Jordan who said the ceiling is
- 10:39Speaker 5: the roof. I believe he was the one that said
- 10:40Speaker 5: that the floor is lava.
- 10:41Speaker 3: Am I talking here? Yeah, Mike, the floor is lava.
- 10:44Speaker 5: If you've got kids, Yeah, it's it's The draft is
- 10:50Speaker 5: an exercise a lot of times in futility when you're
- 10:52Speaker 5: trying to report on it, because it's not like free
- 10:55Speaker 5: agency where teams have to show their cards and you
- 10:58Speaker 5: kind of get a good feeling going in the free
- 10:59Speaker 5: agency that your info is right.
- 11:01Speaker 7: This this top ten.
- 11:03Speaker 5: Last year's top ten was really easy to peg. It
- 11:06Speaker 5: was amazing how it fell based on how we were here.
- 11:08Speaker 5: This year, it's really hard to and it's really hard
- 11:11Speaker 5: to figure out what the cults are doing and how
- 11:12Speaker 5: they have those quarterbacks stacked. I've heard that they are
- 11:16Speaker 5: not high on Levis. I've heard that they are high
- 11:18Speaker 5: on Levis. So as we get closer here, we'll eventually
- 11:21Speaker 5: start to figure it out, maybe have a better feel
- 11:23Speaker 5: for it before Round one kicks off. But right now
- 11:26Speaker 5: and again, they're at the mercy of the Texans. I mean,
- 11:28Speaker 5: the teams are calling and wanting to know what we're
- 11:32Speaker 5: hearing about what Houston is going to do, and nobody
- 11:34Speaker 5: knows for sure.
- 11:35Speaker 2: Back to you, Omar, Well, if you haven't heard yet, Mike,
- 11:37Speaker 2: we are going to break down Tom Pellisaro's quarterback rankings
- 11:41Speaker 2: article coming up a little later in this show. If
- 11:43Speaker 2: you want to get a sneak feet, folks at home,
- 11:45Speaker 2: go to NFL dot com slash Palissaro and.
- 11:48Speaker 3: Read all about it before we get there. Thank you, Tom,
- 11:50Speaker 3: Thank you.
- 11:50Speaker 2: Mike a monumental day for the Philadelphia Eagles. They has
- 11:56Speaker 2: store day Jalen Hurts and the Eagles that would to
- 12:02Speaker 2: chose only five year, two million dollars contract defensive, making
- 12:08Speaker 2: this statement very clear. Jalien Hurts is in fact the
- 12:12Speaker 2: franchise quarterback for Eagles five years, two fifty five. That
- 12:15Speaker 2: makes him the highest paid player in the NFL. All
- 12:19Speaker 2: in all, a day where everyone can walk away smiling,
- 12:22Speaker 2: the Eagles and Dalen Hurts can walk throughto the future together.
- 12:27Speaker 2: So now that the Jalen Hurds contract is done, the
- 12:30Speaker 2: Eagles can pay full attention to the NFL Draftnicks Week,
- 12:34Speaker 2: Chad Ryders seven round mock.
- 12:37Speaker 3: Draft is out. He has the Eagles.
- 12:40Speaker 2: Going defense to start their draft, just like they did
- 12:42Speaker 2: last year with Jordan Davis Junior Gibbs, the Alabama running
- 12:46Speaker 2: back their second pick. Howid Roseman yesterday talking about getting
- 12:51Speaker 2: special players with.
- 12:52Speaker 3: A number ten pick, which writers has them trading out of.
- 12:57Speaker 8: I think the most important thing when when you're picking
- 13:00Speaker 8: in the first round, certainly when you're picking ten, is
- 13:03Speaker 8: that you get a unique player. And I think that
- 13:05Speaker 8: there's so few unique players in any draft that if
- 13:09Speaker 8: you start picking by position and not based on the
- 13:13Speaker 8: quality of the talent, then you really you get a chance.
- 13:17Speaker 8: So if you pick by position and you pick a
- 13:19Speaker 8: back a player who's not any good, then it's not
- 13:21Speaker 8: a good pick anyway. And so I think the most
- 13:23Speaker 8: important thing for us here is that we get you.
- 13:28Speaker 8: We utilize this opportunity to get a unique player.
- 13:32Speaker 2: Six days away, the Eagles tweeting out Devontae Smith, who's
- 13:35Speaker 2: been a star both at Alabama.
- 13:38Speaker 3: And for the Eagles.
- 13:39Speaker 2: Six The amount of picks too at the Eagles head
- 13:42Speaker 2: coming into next week's draft are much more on the
- 13:45Speaker 2: Eagles discussion, we welcome in James Homer, who will be
- 13:49Speaker 2: in Philadelphia, his hometown, to cover the Eagles and their
- 13:52Speaker 2: draft too.
- 13:53Speaker 3: First round picks.
- 13:54Speaker 6: No Bruce Springsteen, Ohmarks you we're gonna bust down to
- 13:56Speaker 6: Bruce Springsteen for Philadelphia.
- 13:58Speaker 3: Now anah, yeah, you like that singing last segmentary? Oh
- 14:02Speaker 3: you didn't all it?
- 14:02Speaker 2: Thought it was horrible? Okay, you just like my kids
- 14:05Speaker 2: think I sing horribly. I'd have to agree, but it
- 14:07Speaker 2: doesn't shy away from me doing it. Okay, Number ten,
- 14:10Speaker 2: Number thirty there, James. For the Eagles, what might they
- 14:12Speaker 2: be thinking ahead?
- 14:13Speaker 3: Of next week.
- 14:15Speaker 6: You heard how Roseman Omar talk about a unique player. Right,
- 14:19Speaker 6: They have two picks in the first round, which is great,
- 14:21Speaker 6: but they only have six total picks. They have ten
- 14:23Speaker 6: thirty sixty two, ninety four and then nothing in rounds four, five,
- 14:27Speaker 6: and six, and then they have two more picks in
- 14:30Speaker 6: round seven. So it's interesting the way the Eagles are
- 14:32Speaker 6: looking at this draft, not just in those six picks.
- 14:35Speaker 3: They're also looking.
- 14:37Speaker 6: At the guys that they had in the second round,
- 14:39Speaker 6: third round, first round of last year's draft that barely played.
- 14:42Speaker 6: That's Jordan Davis in the first round. That's Cam Jurgens
- 14:45Speaker 6: the center they took in the second round, Ni Kobe
- 14:47Speaker 6: Dean the linebacker in the third round. Nick Sirianni believes
- 14:50Speaker 6: that's almost like adding another group into this draft class.
- 14:54Speaker 6: But also Omar, they're looking at the twenty twenty four
- 14:57Speaker 6: draft class and how that could impact what they do
- 15:00Speaker 6: with this draft, because Howi Roseman believes he's going to
- 15:02Speaker 6: have roughly twelve picks, adding in four comp picks for
- 15:05Speaker 6: the guys that they have lost in free agency. They
- 15:07Speaker 6: have an added second round pick from a trade. Can
- 15:09Speaker 6: those twenty twenty four picks impact some of the moves
- 15:13Speaker 6: they potentially make in this year's draft. If they're sitting
- 15:16Speaker 6: at ten and a player starts to fall towards them,
- 15:18Speaker 6: could they use that added second round pick from twenty
- 15:21Speaker 6: twenty four into a trade to move up for somebody
- 15:24Speaker 6: that they'd like or be able to fill that gap
- 15:26Speaker 6: that I mentioned omar in terms of not having any
- 15:29Speaker 6: picks in those rounds. Nick Sirianni and Howie Rosen want
- 15:33Speaker 6: to make sure that if they're going to use those
- 15:35Speaker 6: future picks, they have to really look at the value
- 15:37Speaker 6: of the player, why they're moving, and why they would
- 15:40Speaker 6: make that move. But the Eagles are really looking at this,
- 15:43Speaker 6: not just in the twenty twenty three draft, but the
- 15:45Speaker 6: picks they have in the year.
- 15:47Speaker 7: To come, in the picks that they had last season.
- 15:49Speaker 2: Yeah, so many factors at play, so many gymnastics to
- 15:54Speaker 2: hurdle through there, but one certainty they do have is
- 15:57Speaker 2: who their quarterback is going to be for the foreseeable future.
- 16:00Speaker 2: How did the Jalen hurtzteal affect how they can do
- 16:03Speaker 2: business going forward?
- 16:04Speaker 3: Now?
- 16:04Speaker 6: James well I mentioned that they're looking at some of
- 16:08Speaker 6: the players added in into the equation. They're looking at
- 16:10Speaker 6: twenty twenty four in all of those picks with its
- 16:12Speaker 6: as I mentioned twelve right now, they believe that getting
- 16:16Speaker 6: the Jalen Hurts deal done prior to this draft, actually,
- 16:19Speaker 6: and how he Roseman's wor was yesterday, gives them some
- 16:22Speaker 6: flexibility about what they want to do. They know the
- 16:24Speaker 6: cap situation, they know where the quarterback position stands, and
- 16:27Speaker 6: this is something also that Jalen Hurts wanted done early,
- 16:30Speaker 6: and Howie Roseman commended him on that, considering that Hurts
- 16:34Speaker 6: and his team wanted to make sure that it was
- 16:36Speaker 6: done so that the Eagles could continue to try to
- 16:38Speaker 6: build this team around him. That was important to Hurts,
- 16:41Speaker 6: obviously important to the Eagles. Everyone involved believes this was
- 16:44Speaker 6: somewhat of a win win for both sides. Getting it
- 16:47Speaker 6: done early before the draft was the win portion for
- 16:51Speaker 6: the Philadelphia Eagles and Howie Roseman's mind omark.
- 16:54Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 16:54Speaker 2: We talked last hour about how the Chiefs, obviously coming
- 16:57Speaker 2: off a super Bowl and great position, and the Eagles,
- 17:00Speaker 2: I think same thing coming off their quarterback signing and
- 17:03Speaker 2: the great run last year, continue to build with all
- 17:06Speaker 2: that talent certainly looking good with those two first round picks,
- 17:09Speaker 2: James Palmer.
- 17:15Speaker 9: Oh, he was detonated on by Keon White. He's hit
- 17:21Speaker 9: from behind and now he goes and it was Keon
- 17:24Speaker 9: White running up huff around the edge, sacked at the
- 17:29Speaker 9: tan Keeon White.
- 17:32Speaker 2: He has been all over the field.
- 17:35Speaker 9: And he gets sacked again. Keon White on third stack
- 17:39Speaker 9: of the night.
- 17:41Speaker 2: He's one of the top prospects in the entire NFL Draft.
- 17:46Speaker 2: He's fifth on Bucky Brooks position rankings for a premium.
- 17:50Speaker 3: Position edge rusher.
- 17:52Speaker 2: He is Keon White edge rusher from Georgia Tech and
- 17:56Speaker 2: he joins us. Now, Keon we are six days away
- 18:00Speaker 2: from a life changing night for you to hear your
- 18:02Speaker 2: name called in Kansas City.
- 18:05Speaker 3: How you doing right now? How are you feeling?
- 18:07Speaker 7: Definitely I'm good.
- 18:08Speaker 10: It's getting about that time, so you know, it's getting
- 18:11Speaker 10: kind of anxious seeing what's going to happen next.
- 18:13Speaker 2: Yeah, when you talk about your history, you started at
- 18:16Speaker 2: Old Dominion University as a tight end. What was the
- 18:20Speaker 2: conversation like, was it your coach that came to you?
- 18:24Speaker 2: Was it you that went to the coaches to ultimately
- 18:26Speaker 2: switch positions, which obviously has greatly benefited you.
- 18:31Speaker 10: Yeah, So at the time I was the starting tight end,
- 18:33Speaker 10: and then we had a guy who ended up leaving
- 18:35Speaker 10: those Shane z m Andez, going to the NFL doing
- 18:37Speaker 10: pretty well, and our coaches just felt like it was
- 18:40Speaker 10: a big hole to be filled. And so my coach
- 18:44Speaker 10: sat me down and said, we want to play you
- 18:46Speaker 10: here for springball and try you out, and the rest
- 18:50Speaker 10: is kind of history.
- 18:51Speaker 2: Yeah, how do you think some of those tight end
- 18:53Speaker 2: attributes have helped you there as a pass rusher?
- 18:58Speaker 5: A lot?
- 18:58Speaker 7: For sure.
- 19:00Speaker 10: I feel like I can dissect offenses and see tendencies
- 19:03Speaker 10: a little bit better than the average person because I
- 19:07Speaker 10: know what the offense wants to do, and I know
- 19:08Speaker 10: what they're trying to set up and things like that.
- 19:11Speaker 10: So just knowing what Titans don't want you to do,
- 19:13Speaker 10: I kind of do that well.
- 19:16Speaker 2: Obviously, you've shown your athleticism throughout your career at both
- 19:19Speaker 2: ODU and Georgia Tech. But I think one of the
- 19:22Speaker 2: things that's underrated about your game is how strong you are.
- 19:25Speaker 2: We want to show you this old clip from when
- 19:27Speaker 2: you're still at Old Dominion of you squatting ken. Do
- 19:31Speaker 2: you remember how much you lifted here?
- 19:35Speaker 7: Yeah? That was probably five thirty right there.
- 19:37Speaker 3: That was about five years ago. What are you up
- 19:40Speaker 3: to now?
- 19:42Speaker 10: I'll probably do I stopped doing one rep maxes, but
- 19:45Speaker 10: for a one rep I probably projected around seven seven hundred.
- 19:48Speaker 2: Wow, that's incredible. Is that something that you've tried to
- 19:52Speaker 2: tell these teams that, hey, yes, I have all the
- 19:54Speaker 2: athleticism in the world, but I'm equally as strong.
- 19:56Speaker 3: Is that something you've had to convince them?
- 19:59Speaker 10: No, I feel like that's got to show up on
- 20:00Speaker 10: tape because there's guys that can squat a house but
- 20:04Speaker 10: can't play strong. So I try to play straw more
- 20:06Speaker 10: than anything and just use the weight room as like
- 20:09Speaker 10: a compliment to that.
- 20:11Speaker 2: Sure, and one of the things about your game is
- 20:13Speaker 2: that you've been shooting up draft boards.
- 20:15Speaker 3: How do you explain that.
- 20:18Speaker 7: For me?
- 20:18Speaker 10: I really care about the guys who are making decisions
- 20:21Speaker 10: in the office, like the general managers. I'm like, you
- 20:24Speaker 10: can't let the draft boards kind of inflate your ego
- 20:26Speaker 10: in your head, and you got to remain humble. So
- 20:29Speaker 10: while I appreciate the attention, I'm more so trying to
- 20:32Speaker 10: impress the guys that are making the decisions.
- 20:34Speaker 2: Well, six days from now, you're going to hear your
- 20:37Speaker 2: name called in Kansas City. What do you want teams
- 20:40Speaker 2: to know about you here with just six days to go?
- 20:45Speaker 7: Then I'm a worker.
- 20:46Speaker 10: I don't really like to talk too much, and I
- 20:48Speaker 10: feel like you can't really talk about football you at
- 20:50Speaker 10: the show. So I'm the one that's going to work
- 20:53Speaker 10: like That's the thing I get up in the morning
- 20:55Speaker 10: to do. That's why I go to sleep thinking about
- 20:58Speaker 10: just how hard I can work and how I can
- 20:59Speaker 10: be better than the next person and just refuseing to
- 21:02Speaker 10: let anybody around me outwork me.
- 21:04Speaker 2: So you're one of the player that has been invited
- 21:06Speaker 2: to Kansas City to be a part of the draft
- 21:08Speaker 2: in person.
- 21:09Speaker 3: Have you thought about how you'll greet Roger Goodell?
- 21:12Speaker 2: Have you picked out your suit you're gonna wear next
- 21:14Speaker 2: Thursday night?
- 21:17Speaker 7: Yeah?
- 21:17Speaker 10: So got the suit getting it fitted again, refitted on Monday.
- 21:23Speaker 7: Just thought about all of that.
- 21:24Speaker 10: So my thing is just going there for the experience
- 21:27Speaker 10: where I get drafted is I have no control over.
- 21:30Speaker 10: I'm just trying to have a good time. I'm bringing
- 21:32Speaker 10: my friends with me, and so we're all just going
- 21:34Speaker 10: to go there and just take all the moment.
- 21:36Speaker 3: And what are you looking forward to most about the
- 21:38Speaker 3: trip with your friends?
- 21:40Speaker 7: So just sharing it with my friends.
- 21:41Speaker 10: So I decided to go the unconventional route, not really
- 21:45Speaker 10: bringing any of my family. I'm bringing all of my
- 21:46Speaker 10: friends and just enjoying the time and the experience.
- 21:50Speaker 3: That's cool.
- 21:51Speaker 2: Where's you mentioned the fit about your suit. Where's a
- 21:53Speaker 2: perfect fit for you in the NFL.
- 21:57Speaker 10: Just a multi front team, A team that doesn't pigeonhole
- 22:00Speaker 10: me and say, hey, I want you to get up
- 22:02Speaker 10: three hundred and five pounds and play three tech, or hey,
- 22:04Speaker 10: I want you to get down to two sixty and
- 22:06Speaker 10: play outside linebacker. A team that allows me to just
- 22:09Speaker 10: be multi dimensional and play outside inside wherever is needed
- 22:14Speaker 10: that week. And just somewhere that's big on teaching because
- 22:18Speaker 10: there's still a lot of things I need to learn
- 22:20Speaker 10: about my game for sure, and just someone who's going
- 22:23Speaker 10: to be able to just show me the ropes and
- 22:25Speaker 10: teach me and be able to work with me for true.
- 22:28Speaker 2: Yeah, ke On White, well you've had a heck of
- 22:29Speaker 2: a college career. We can't wait to see where you
- 22:32Speaker 2: end up on Thursday night. Good luck the rest of
- 22:34Speaker 2: the way, and enjoy your time in Kansas City next week.
- 22:37Speaker 7: Definitely, I appreciate it.
- 22:39Speaker 3: Thank you. Keon White.
- 22:41Speaker 2: Gonna hear his name called on Thursday night, a draft
- 22:44Speaker 2: you can see right here on NFL Network Live eight
- 22:47Speaker 2: o'clock Eastern on Thursday, Rice Young, Anthony Richardson, C J. Stroud,
- 22:53Speaker 2: Will Anderson. They'll also be hearing their names called. He's
- 23:00Speaker 2: one of the hottest prospects in this year's draft. He's
- 23:02Speaker 2: Maryland Corner Deontay Bang, who Ian Rappaport reported earlier this week,
- 23:08Speaker 2: met with the Bills to close out his visit, visiting
- 23:11Speaker 2: with nearly every team in the league. Also visited with
- 23:14Speaker 2: the Saints, Commanders, Titans, Vikings, Raiders, Texans, Giants, Bucks, Eagles, Jaguars, Bears,
- 23:20Speaker 2: and Steelers. As far as our mock drafts go, we
- 23:24Speaker 2: have Daniel Jeremiah. Cynthia Freeland have him going at twenty
- 23:28Speaker 2: four to the Jaguars. Then you have Bucky Brooks and
- 23:31Speaker 2: Lancezerlin both having him at seventeen to the Pittsburgh Steelers.
- 23:36Speaker 2: You have Charles Davis to the Seahawks, Eric et Ome
- 23:39Speaker 2: to the Washington Commanders at twenty and twenty one, respectively.
- 23:43Speaker 3: We're pleased to.
- 23:44Speaker 2: Welcome in Deontay Banks, Maryland Corner right now. And as
- 23:47Speaker 2: a kid who grew up in Baltimore, Deontay. Can you
- 23:50Speaker 2: see yourself in the black and gold of the Pittsburgh Steelers.
- 23:56Speaker 11: I can see myself playing anyway, to be honest, anywhere.
- 24:00Speaker 11: I'm just ready to play football, honestly.
- 24:02Speaker 2: What's this last couple months been like for you? Of
- 24:04Speaker 2: course you've been going through all the tests and the
- 24:07Speaker 2: meetings and the visits. Now that we're six days away,
- 24:10Speaker 2: kind of what are you thinking about heading into next
- 24:12Speaker 2: week's draft?
- 24:14Speaker 11: I'm man enjoying it, to be honest, I really just
- 24:16Speaker 11: made join the process. Like, everything been real good.
- 24:19Speaker 12: A lot of a lot of airplanes, a lot of planes.
- 24:23Speaker 11: It's been real fun espectally just going to to city
- 24:26Speaker 11: to city.
- 24:26Speaker 12: It's been really fun.
- 24:27Speaker 2: What's been the most surprising thing about your visits or
- 24:30Speaker 2: maybe this process for you?
- 24:32Speaker 11: I didn't really know like that you take visits in
- 24:34Speaker 11: all that, so that's kind of new to me.
- 24:38Speaker 2: Are you safe to say this is probably the most
- 24:40Speaker 2: time you've spent on planes the last couple of months,
- 24:42Speaker 2: the previously in your life.
- 24:44Speaker 12: I've never been on this mini plane.
- 24:46Speaker 3: You got any travel tips for us at this point?
- 24:49Speaker 12: Oh, I go to sleep on a plane and a
- 24:52Speaker 12: help out for sure.
- 24:54Speaker 2: Take those Naps. I'm right there with you. Where do
- 24:57Speaker 2: you see an ideal fit for you?
- 24:58Speaker 3: Deontay?
- 25:01Speaker 12: I just want to I don't know. I feel like
- 25:02Speaker 12: anywhere I could go fit for me.
- 25:05Speaker 11: People that play of blits a lot of a lot
- 25:07Speaker 11: of pressure, right, that's.
- 25:08Speaker 3: Me, Gionta.
- 25:10Speaker 2: When you look at your journey at Maryland, at what
- 25:13Speaker 2: point did you realize, Hey, this NFL prospect is not
- 25:18Speaker 2: only attainable, but I can actually go high in the draft.
- 25:21Speaker 2: What point did that set in to be a reality
- 25:23Speaker 2: for you?
- 25:24Speaker 11: I always know as a reality for me, honestly, like
- 25:27Speaker 11: since I was young. But for me, when I honestly
- 25:31Speaker 11: like I would see my sophomore year, I really be like.
- 25:34Speaker 12: Oh yeah, I can really do this, I can really
- 25:36Speaker 12: big topic, I could do this. It's me.
- 25:38Speaker 2: We've seen so many of those highlights that you had.
- 25:40Speaker 2: I remember the blocked extra point against Ohio State, against
- 25:44Speaker 2: that high level competition, going against C. J. Stroud and
- 25:47Speaker 2: all the receivers they've had over the years, going toe
- 25:50Speaker 2: to toe with a team like that and all those prospects.
- 25:52Speaker 3: What did that do for your confidence?
- 25:56Speaker 11: I kind of already had it, but I just I
- 25:58Speaker 11: guess it felt good. You just felt good. No, I
- 26:01Speaker 11: like I played a real well game. I guess tough
- 26:04Speaker 11: a pony.
- 26:06Speaker 2: You mentioned how long this last couple of months have
- 26:08Speaker 2: been for you, and you know you work on the
- 26:10Speaker 2: testing stuff and all the drills that the teams put
- 26:13Speaker 2: you through. But what have you been working on that
- 26:15Speaker 2: will help your game on the field next season getting
- 26:17Speaker 2: ready for the NFL.
- 26:19Speaker 11: I just focused on really just catching about uncomfortable situations
- 26:23Speaker 11: so I can catch more interceptions.
- 26:25Speaker 3: Yeah, making plays on the ball, becoming more of a
- 26:27Speaker 3: ball hawk.
- 26:28Speaker 12: Is that what you mean?
- 26:29Speaker 7: Sir?
- 26:30Speaker 3: Okay, okay.
- 26:31Speaker 2: So when you're at the combine, what did you want
- 26:34Speaker 2: to impress upon the teams that you were meeting with there?
- 26:38Speaker 12: Mut I just want to show it fast.
- 26:40Speaker 11: I was lot of teams I kept saying, like I
- 26:42Speaker 11: realized that they said, like I wasn't really fast or whatever.
- 26:46Speaker 11: But I don't know where they got that from. Like
- 26:47Speaker 11: I've always been fast. I've been fast. I was young,
- 26:49Speaker 11: So I don't really know where they got that from.
- 26:52Speaker 2: Real bro Well obviously showed it for three five forty
- 26:56Speaker 2: with your six foot two, two hundred five pound frame.
- 26:59Speaker 2: What do you think is most impressive the physicality that
- 27:02Speaker 2: you play with or your speed.
- 27:05Speaker 12: I think it's my speed at my size. I think
- 27:07Speaker 12: that's way more impressive skied at my size.
- 27:10Speaker 2: Okay, well we have the draft next week. Where do
- 27:12Speaker 2: you plan on watching the draft? What's your party going
- 27:15Speaker 2: to be like? Take us through, Deontay Banks draft party.
- 27:18Speaker 11: Here'ready gonna be a real cool vibe.
- 27:21Speaker 12: It's gonna be my family. It's gonna be honest. It's
- 27:24Speaker 12: my My extended family is my it's like my immediate family.
- 27:27Speaker 12: So that's how we are clues. So bill me a
- 27:29Speaker 12: real cool vibe for us.
- 27:31Speaker 3: All right, Well, we're pulling hard for you, Deontay.
- 27:33Speaker 2: Thanks again for joining us, Congratulations on getting to this point,
- 27:36Speaker 2: and good luck this week.
