- 0:11Speaker 1: our Tier three members get into a live chat room
- 0:14Speaker 1: with Greg Cosell and get to ask him their tape
- 0:17Speaker 1: breakdown questions directly and they get Greg's responses. It's one
- 0:21Speaker 1: of the most popular shows we have on Patreon. You

- 0:49Speaker 2: Hey, Greg, my question for you is this, So, I'm
- 0:52Speaker 2: firmly of the belief that Nikobe Dean is the MVP
- 0:54Speaker 2: of the team, and this was the first time since
- 0:57Speaker 2: you know, he's come back that we were able to
- 0:59Speaker 2: kind of get an extended look at Jahid Campbell. So
- 1:01Speaker 2: I wanted to hear what you thought about how Jahad
- 1:03Speaker 2: Campbell fared.
- 1:04Speaker 3: You know, we talked about this on inside the tape
- 1:07Speaker 3: that you know Campbell I thought was fine. I mean again,
- 1:10Speaker 3: what I was saying to Jeff is that you know
- 1:13Speaker 3: when you don't know, and there's no way I can
- 1:15Speaker 3: know is all the little tweaks and things that they do,
- 1:18Speaker 3: you know, because it's Campbell and not Dean. But as
- 1:20Speaker 3: far as how he played, you know, watching the plays,
- 1:23Speaker 3: he was absolutely fine. I mean he's a quick athlete,
- 1:26Speaker 3: he moves well. He made some tackles. You know, I
- 1:29Speaker 3: don't know if they cut back on what they would
- 1:30Speaker 3: have done. It was so hard, Frank to get a
- 1:33Speaker 3: field because first of all, Mariotro started and then of course,
- 1:36Speaker 3: you know, Johnson, who I think has probably played for
- 1:39Speaker 3: all thirty two teams came in and so, you know,
- 1:44Speaker 3: so that was a hard game to get a true
- 1:46Speaker 3: feel for Campbell.
- 1:47Speaker 4: What have you seen the last three weeks with Marcus Epps?
- 1:50Speaker 3: He has now whenever they're going up in a too
- 1:53Speaker 3: deep shell, Blankenship always plays to the boundary and Apps
- 1:56Speaker 3: always plays to the field. And Apps has just been solid.
- 2:00Speaker 3: I mean there's been no major mistakes. He's not an
- 2:02Speaker 3: impact playmaker, but they don't need him to be an
- 2:05Speaker 3: impact playmaker right now. They just needed solid play because
- 2:09Speaker 3: Sidney Brown can't give them that. And f is a
- 2:12Speaker 3: you know, savvy, smart veteran who knows how to play.
- 2:15Speaker 3: So it stabilized the back end and you know, we'll
- 2:19Speaker 3: see what happens as they go forward. He's the guy.
- 2:22Speaker 5: Obviously, we've been having a lot of issues all season,
- 2:25Speaker 5: and in the last two games we have obviously lack
- 2:29Speaker 5: of competition, but we're still having issues. So it's you say,
- 2:36Speaker 5: if we had issues of bad downs where we would
- 2:40Speaker 5: lose the yards it was normally six, it's been three
- 2:45Speaker 5: or two, so it's it's less than a little. So
- 2:48Speaker 5: tell me, is it better execution with the combination of
- 2:53Speaker 5: bad play or just better execution, because I would love
- 2:56Speaker 5: to hear that it's just better execution.
- 2:59Speaker 3: Well, you know they're still playing you know NFL teams now,
- 3:03Speaker 3: obviously they're not playoff teams, so all you can do
- 3:06Speaker 3: is perform against who you're playing against. Al And this
- 3:09Speaker 3: week I thought their old line was really good. They
- 3:13Speaker 3: had some really strong double team combo blocks. I thought
- 3:17Speaker 3: this was the best, one of the best combinations and
- 3:20Speaker 3: coordinations of the season between O line blocking and Barkley's
- 3:24Speaker 3: patience and vision and sure airy explosiveness. He seemed much
- 3:27Speaker 3: more decisive. He hit it with burst, there were holes.
- 3:33Speaker 3: He even made it through some small creases, and he's
- 3:35Speaker 3: normally not exactly that kind of runner. But you know, again,
- 3:38Speaker 3: we can take whatever we want from the nature of
- 3:41Speaker 3: the opponent, but they clearly the run game this week
- 3:45Speaker 3: was as good as it's been beyond just a few
- 3:49Speaker 3: individual plays.
- 3:51Speaker 6: Hey, Greg, Merry Christmas, I have a question. He said,
- 3:57Speaker 6: you like Trotter's taate more coming out Thans.
- 4:00Speaker 3: So I just.
- 4:01Speaker 6: Wanted to seem like, has Dean like exceeded your expectation
- 4:08Speaker 6: of what he might be?
- 4:10Speaker 3: Yeah? And what yeah?
- 4:13Speaker 6: Like Yeah, I was gonna say, like, what improvements did
- 4:15Speaker 6: you like?
- 4:16Speaker 3: Have you been better against the run this year? In particular?
- 4:20Speaker 3: This is to me again just watching tape. I'm not there,
- 4:23Speaker 3: but I think against the run to me, this year
- 4:26Speaker 3: is where he's made the most improvement. He was a
- 4:28Speaker 3: really good blitzer coming out. That was that to me
- 4:31Speaker 3: was what he did really really well coming out. And
- 4:35Speaker 3: I was, you know, I don't want to say I
- 4:37Speaker 3: didn't think he could do in the league, but I thought, gee,
- 4:39Speaker 3: he's a smaller guy, will he be able to do it?
- 4:42Speaker 3: And my guess is that that conversation has had in
- 4:45Speaker 3: ad of draft rooms. You know, he's he's under six feet,
- 4:48Speaker 3: he's two hundred and twenty eight pounds. You know, so
- 4:52Speaker 3: I'm sure they talked about whether he could be a
- 4:55Speaker 3: dominant blitzer, and he's turned out to be phenomenal at it.
- 4:58Speaker 3: But I think it's the run game year with the
- 5:00Speaker 3: quick trigger seeing things. That's where I thought Trotter was
- 5:04Speaker 3: better with his tape. And again, who knows what's going
- 5:06Speaker 3: to happen to Trotter's career obviously is not going to
- 5:08Speaker 3: be the starter here. I mean, we don't know what's
- 5:10Speaker 3: going to happen with Dean, you know, because we have
- 5:13Speaker 3: no idea what their salary cap and how they want
- 5:15Speaker 3: to spend their money. You know. My guess is they're
- 5:17Speaker 3: certainly going to look to sign Jordan Davis now, who
- 5:20Speaker 3: I thought was phenomenal this next week and is clearly
- 5:23Speaker 3: you know, they're not going to let him walk, so
- 5:25Speaker 3: they're going to sign him. So you can only sign
- 5:27Speaker 3: so many guys, So we'll see what happened.
- 5:29Speaker 2: Great, because I was actually gonna ask you about our
- 5:31Speaker 2: quarterback because I feel like the last three weeks in particular,
- 5:34Speaker 2: I mean, and I include the Chargers game, he looks
- 5:37Speaker 2: more decisive, you know what I mean. It looks like
- 5:39Speaker 2: he's yes right, it looks like he's not afraid of,
- 5:42Speaker 2: you know, turning the ball over so much like he's
- 5:44Speaker 2: seeing it and throwing it and let it fly it.
- 5:46Speaker 2: I just wanted to see if that's sticking out to you.
- 5:49Speaker 3: Yes, And I think that's where the empty sets and
- 5:52Speaker 3: the no huddle help a lot, because both those things
- 5:55Speaker 3: minimize what the defense can do as far as looks
- 5:59Speaker 3: pre pre snap to post snap snap rotations. The defense
- 6:04Speaker 3: has to be set. You know, if you go no huddle,
- 6:07Speaker 3: empty and spread a little bit, the defense has to
- 6:10Speaker 3: be set. It defines the reds for a quarterback pre snap.
- 6:14Speaker 3: I mean, you know, Jalen this week was very decisive.
- 6:17Speaker 3: I mean, they had thirty seven dropbacks, which is more
- 6:19Speaker 3: than they normally have, so you know, and again there's
- 6:22Speaker 3: nothing wrong with dropping back, hitting your back foot and
- 6:24Speaker 3: throwing a seven yard ball. There's nothing wrong with that,
- 6:27Speaker 3: you know. So yeah, I think it helps.
- 6:30Speaker 4: Them build off what frame. One thing I saw off
- 6:32Speaker 4: from in the Washington game and also in the Raiders
- 6:35Speaker 4: game was that the team both offense defense was playing
- 6:39Speaker 4: what I call on their toes. They didn't look like
- 6:42Speaker 4: they were stuck in mud, playing not to lose. And
- 6:45Speaker 4: the one thing that and Greg, what you just said
- 6:49Speaker 4: really verified. It is so many fans and even the
- 6:52Speaker 4: media want to jumble Hurts into the same as Love
- 6:59Speaker 4: or William or any quarterbacks because well, they don't have
- 7:03Speaker 4: the same stats. There's a difference between not having the
- 7:06Speaker 4: same stats and being different kind of quarterbacks.
- 7:07Speaker 3: I've probably said this before, and I think that this,
- 7:10Speaker 3: unfortunately is the way most media people think. I'm not
- 7:13Speaker 3: talking about guys you know, in their basement, in their
- 7:15Speaker 3: underwear who don't know anything. I'm talking about it. You know,
- 7:19Speaker 3: most media people think in these terms, quarterbacks the most
- 7:21Speaker 3: important position team wins. Therefore quarterbacks great. There's a lot
- 7:25Speaker 3: of reasons why teams win and lose, and you have
- 7:28Speaker 3: to try to you know, I sit here and watch tape.
- 7:30Speaker 3: I know those reasons for the most part. And obviously look,
- 7:35Speaker 3: Greg Olsen doing the Eagles game on Saturday, said some
- 7:38Speaker 3: really interesting things, and I agree. He said, the Eagles
- 7:41Speaker 3: offense is better than people think. Now, that doesn't mean
- 7:43Speaker 3: Jalen Hurts all of a sudden is, you know, the
- 7:46Speaker 3: best quarterback in the league. But the Eagles offense is
- 7:50Speaker 3: better overall when they're playing Eagles football, like when they
- 7:55Speaker 3: played last year, the Eagles actually had a very good offense.
- 7:58Speaker 3: Now that doesn't mean that Jalen Hurts. You know, he
- 8:00Speaker 3: still threw for less than two hundred yards and ten games.
- 8:04Speaker 3: But they play a certain way, and Hurts is at
- 8:08Speaker 3: his best, is very smart within the way that they play,
- 8:12Speaker 3: and you know where the run game is the dominant force,
- 8:15Speaker 3: where they have a great defense, where when it gets
- 8:18Speaker 3: to third and eight, they don't have to throw the
- 8:21Speaker 3: ball because they can run and get to fourth and
- 8:23Speaker 3: two and then they go for it and they're really
- 8:26Speaker 3: good at doing that. So you know, he's a really
- 8:29Speaker 3: good player within the way they play. If you ask
- 8:31Speaker 3: him to drop back forty five times every week like
- 8:35Speaker 3: the Chiefs did with Mahomes this year's he's not that guy.
- 8:39Speaker 3: But that doesn't mean he's not a good player within
- 8:41Speaker 3: the context of what the team is.
- 8:43Speaker 1: Hey, I still like a good night out, but I'm

- 12:26Speaker 5: All right, So My next one is our good old
- 12:30Speaker 5: buddy on the other side of Mitchell. Uh, have you
- 12:35Speaker 5: seen improvements e stuff for the bomb he gave up
- 12:38Speaker 5: to mcclaury.
- 12:39Speaker 3: Yeah, what have you seene? Yeah, he's played well over
- 12:43Speaker 3: the last month. So let's not you know, he got
- 12:45Speaker 3: beat on a subtle stutter by McLaurin, who's a really
- 12:48Speaker 3: good receiver. You know, let's not take one play and
- 12:51Speaker 3: decide that this guy stinks. You know, he's playing opposite Mitchell,
- 12:55Speaker 3: who's a really, really good corner. I mean, you could
- 12:58Speaker 3: easily make the argument that Mitchell's a top fourth corner
- 13:00Speaker 3: in the league. So you know, but but getting beat,
- 13:03Speaker 3: you know, corners in this league do get beat. You know,
- 13:07Speaker 3: Mitchell doesn't usually get beat over the top. I can't
- 13:09Speaker 3: remember the last time he was, but guys do catch
- 13:11Speaker 3: it on him on occasion. Obviously, Jackson's obviously not at
- 13:15Speaker 3: that level. But you know, guys in this league, even
- 13:18Speaker 3: good corners. I mean I've seen you know, Stingley get
- 13:21Speaker 3: beat a couple of times over the top. Does that
- 13:23Speaker 3: mean he's not a good corner? So all I'm saying
- 13:26Speaker 3: to you is, let's not take one play or you know,
- 13:29Speaker 3: and decide that all of a sudden, this guy's no good.
- 13:32Speaker 3: That was Terry mccl really subtle route, that was really
- 13:36Speaker 3: well done, and mclaurin's a good receiver.
- 13:39Speaker 5: Are you saying I want I want to make sure
- 13:42Speaker 5: you're saying it clear. Are you saying that he's playing
- 13:45Speaker 5: the the technique and what Vin wants him to do
- 13:51Speaker 5: better he was earlier.
- 13:53Speaker 3: I don't know how he's taught. That's the you know,
- 13:55Speaker 3: I'm not there. I don't know how he's taught to
- 13:56Speaker 3: play in each coverage, you know, because that's a specific
- 13:59Speaker 3: thing that you know, different coaches teach differently. But on
- 14:03Speaker 3: the play in which he was beat, by the way
- 14:05Speaker 3: he was basically playing zero man because the safety to
- 14:08Speaker 3: that side, and by the way that play was designed,
- 14:10Speaker 3: because they lined up McLaurin to the field as the
- 14:13Speaker 3: single receiver because they know the Eagles playing Mitchell to
- 14:16Speaker 3: the boundary and Jackson to the field. But what the
- 14:18Speaker 3: Eagles did there is they had the field safety who
- 14:21Speaker 3: is not blanket ship. It's it's I just had a
- 14:26Speaker 3: brain freeze. The other safety aps right right the Apps,
- 14:31Speaker 3: but Apps poached inside, so they let Jackson basically play
- 14:35Speaker 3: zero man against McLaurin. So they wouldn't have done that
- 14:39Speaker 3: if they didn't feel like he was capable of doing it.
- 14:41Speaker 3: And you know what, you know that against McLaurin, Hey,
- 14:44Speaker 3: you can get beat once in a while. That happens, uh, Greg.
- 14:46Speaker 7: The last few weeks, you know, with Saquon having you know,
- 14:51Speaker 7: more carries and you know the yards, and they have
- 14:55Speaker 7: not been in a lot of like they have run
- 14:57Speaker 7: like two plays only with six zero line. Uh yeah,
- 15:01Speaker 7: if lane, if Lane comes back, or when Lane comes back,
- 15:03Speaker 7: do you anticipate them not doing it as much as
- 15:06Speaker 7: they were before with Lane back or with the Yeah,
- 15:11Speaker 7: since it's working, because I know they were.
- 15:14Speaker 3: They only did it twice in this game. I mean
- 15:16Speaker 3: it was a Barkley forty eight yard run which was
- 15:18Speaker 3: in the fourth quarter, and then two plays later the
- 15:20Speaker 3: Bigsby twenty two yard touchdown with the only two plays
- 15:23Speaker 3: in the game that they had six aer alignment. So
- 15:25Speaker 3: it's not something they've been doing a ton of. You know,
- 15:28Speaker 3: I think that's probably opponent specific, situation specific. You know,
- 15:34Speaker 3: we'll see, uh, you know, just one quick point and
- 15:37Speaker 3: then uh, I don't know if you guys noticed, but
- 15:40Speaker 3: you know, obviously we spent a lot of time earlier
- 15:42Speaker 3: in the season talking about Calcatara, who's not a great
- 15:45Speaker 3: one on one blocker and you don't want him to
- 15:47Speaker 3: block d ends. But if you notice in this game
- 15:49Speaker 3: when they ran gap scheme runs they used him. It's
- 15:52Speaker 3: what's called the rapper. So in other words, in a
- 15:54Speaker 3: gap scheme run, there's usually two blockers that pull. One
- 15:58Speaker 3: is is the poller. He's the kickout blocker. He blocks
- 16:01Speaker 3: the widest defender on the edge, and then you have
- 16:04Speaker 3: what's called the rapper. He works behind the kickout blocker
- 16:08Speaker 3: and he works to the second level and blocks the
- 16:11Speaker 3: first second level defender. That shows they used Kalkatara twice
- 16:16Speaker 3: as the rapper, and he actually had very two very
- 16:19Speaker 3: good blocks on the second level defender.
