- 0:00Speaker 1: All right, guys, here we are last break of the
- 0:02Speaker 1: day on this Thursday. It's been a fun day. Thank
- 0:05Speaker 1: you guys for listening as always. Congratulations again Steve on
- 0:10Speaker 1: your forty years awesome. That's crazy. I would like to
- 0:15Speaker 1: my close remarks is just a letter just about thankfulness
- 0:19Speaker 1: and gratitude. First of all, to a young kid that
- 0:23Speaker 1: works for me out in La named Jason. Do I
- 0:27Speaker 1: know his last name? Of course, not no idea what
- 0:31Speaker 1: his last name is. Okay, okay, But he's so talented
- 0:36Speaker 1: with videos and editing and cutting and putting together social
- 0:41Speaker 1: media content. My team put together him and Chris Stelle
- 0:45Speaker 1: put together a tribute to my anniversary, which was October eighth,
- 0:51Speaker 1: nineteen eighty five. October eighth, nineteen eighty five, I walked
- 0:55Speaker 1: into Hilarities Comedy Club. I won fifty dollars, went to
- 1:00Speaker 1: work the next day, October ninth, and quit my job
- 1:04Speaker 1: and made the announcement to my family and friends. I
- 1:09Speaker 1: was gonna go be a stand up comedian. I had
- 1:13Speaker 1: complete and other pushback. Absolutely no one agreed with me.
- 1:20Speaker 1: Two people agreed with me. The most important was my father.
- 1:24Speaker 1: My father said, boy, if you think you can make it,
- 1:26Speaker 1: gone get out there and get the scuffling. That was
- 1:28Speaker 1: his exact quote. Slick Harvey said, gone, and get out
- 1:32Speaker 1: there and get discoffling, because if I could have done
- 1:34Speaker 1: my life over, I'd have done something like that. You
- 1:37Speaker 1: only live once. Gone, take a crack at it. My
- 1:40Speaker 1: mother disagreed. You got a family, you got them kids,
- 1:44Speaker 1: you got a job. Keep making that check. Take care
- 1:47Speaker 1: of your family. Only other person supported me was his
- 1:50Speaker 1: brother from Cleveland named Russell Middlebrooks. Russell said, yeah, go
- 1:56Speaker 1: for it, man, You funny it hell to me. Then
- 2:01Speaker 1: my other friend said, well, he gonna need more than
- 2:03Speaker 1: you to think he funny if he gonna make it.
- 2:06Speaker 1: So that was my entry level forty years ago. By
- 2:11Speaker 1: the grace of God, I made it. Now I was
- 2:15Speaker 1: looking at this montage they've created for me that's starting
- 2:18Speaker 1: to go around a lot of people. Kirk Franklin texted
- 2:21Speaker 1: me yesterday and said number forty goat. He said, thanks, uncle,
- 2:29Speaker 1: So it's people are starting to see this montage. But
- 2:32Speaker 1: I was sitting there and the montage made me cry
- 2:35Speaker 1: because I forgot so much of this stuff. Because a
- 2:39Speaker 1: lot of this stuff was long before phone cameras existed.
- 2:44Speaker 1: You know, people just found footage man of me at
- 2:47Speaker 1: the improv me my first night on showtime at the Apollo.
- 2:51Speaker 1: That was my very first time. That was the eye joke.
- 2:55Speaker 1: All of that, everything stemed from so many things, and
- 2:59Speaker 1: I was just looking. But I thought about what made
- 3:03Speaker 1: me emotional was see, I know the backstory behind all
- 3:07Speaker 1: those pictures that kept coming up. I know exactly where
- 3:10Speaker 1: I was at that particular moment, and a lot of
- 3:13Speaker 1: those moments I was having on stage. It was some
- 3:16Speaker 1: dog stuff going on in my life behind the scenes
- 3:19Speaker 1: that nobody knew about. It was some life changing decisions
- 3:23Speaker 1: that I had to make behind the scenes that nobody
- 3:26Speaker 1: knew nothing about. It was some decisions that I had
- 3:29Speaker 1: made that hurt myself and some people along the way
- 3:34Speaker 1: that nobody knew about. And it led me to understand
- 3:39Speaker 1: something else about God. When you ask God for something,
- 3:44Speaker 1: he'll give it to you. He will not reveal to
- 3:47Speaker 1: you the cost. Because if God had shown me everything
- 3:53Speaker 1: I would have had to have gone through to get
- 3:56Speaker 1: to where I am today, I would have changed my
- 3:58Speaker 1: request because I just wouldn't have had it in me
- 4:03Speaker 1: to say, Okay, I'm willing to do that. I'm willing
- 4:06Speaker 1: to do this, so he just honests the request. He
- 4:09Speaker 1: don't show you the requirements. But it's those requirements that
- 4:13Speaker 1: cost people they dreams. So I'm saying all this to
- 4:16Speaker 1: say this to anybody that's trying to accomplish forty years
- 4:19Speaker 1: of anything, or twenty or get to ten. Don't give up,
- 4:24Speaker 1: no matter what happens. Don't give up. Don't you dare
- 4:29Speaker 1: give up. Don't quit. If you quit, you'll never know
- 4:35Speaker 1: what God had in store for you. But if you
- 4:38Speaker 1: can manage to hang in there, if you can manage
- 4:41Speaker 1: to keep putting one foot in front of the next,
- 4:44Speaker 1: if you can keep managing to get to your house
- 4:47Speaker 1: and lock that door at night and cry about it,
- 4:50Speaker 1: pray about it, take a shower, rest, sleep on it,
- 4:55Speaker 1: do whatever you gotta do, and by the grace of God,
- 4:58Speaker 1: he wakes you up in the morning. That's a sign
- 5:00Speaker 1: from Him that he ain't through with you yet. So
- 5:03Speaker 1: just try to get one foot in front of the other.
- 5:06Speaker 1: Sometimes you can't even get the other foot in front
- 5:09Speaker 1: of the other. Sometimes you just got to be steal. Sometimes, man,
- 5:14Speaker 1: it's going so dark for you you don't know what
- 5:17Speaker 1: step to take. Just be steal, sit there, whisper his name,
- 5:23Speaker 1: hold yourself, rock back and forth. I had a many
- 5:27Speaker 1: nights in that car, A many nights and days in
- 5:31Speaker 1: that car when I just held myself and I was
- 5:35Speaker 1: rocking back and forth, tears coming down my face. Man
- 5:38Speaker 1: didn't know what to do. I just said, Lord, if
- 5:41Speaker 1: you wake me up in the morning, I just keep
- 5:43Speaker 1: on trying. And I just, by the grace of God,
- 5:46Speaker 1: I kept trying. I will give myself credit for one thing.
- 5:51Speaker 1: I just never gave up. That's the only credit I
- 5:55Speaker 1: can give myself. I just never ever gave up. I
- 6:00Speaker 1: somehow kept the faith. I relied on Bible verses, scriptures.
- 6:06Speaker 1: My mama was sending me. I just never gave up.
- 6:09Speaker 1: You do your part, He'll do his, but you cannot quit.
- 6:14Speaker 1: I don't care what happens. Don't you dare give up?
- 6:18Speaker 1: Those are my closing remarks today. Thank you all for
- 6:21Speaker 1: forty years of support. Some of y'all remember all the
