- 0:02A listener production.
- 0:04Welcome to the Motorsport Brief.
- 0:06I'm back after a break.
- 0:08Good timing.
- 0:09It's race week in Tassie for supercars and a key member of their broadcast team has come back on for a preview.
- 0:16G'day everybody, Rusty here for another edition of the Shortcast.
- 0:19Garth Tander is standing by to talk Simmons planes, Enduros, Silly Season and more.
- 0:26We've released a whole bunch of episodes in the past month too.
- 0:29Feature eps with Alistair McRae, son of the legendary British Rally Championship star Jimmy McRae and brother of the late Colin McRae.
- 0:37Al's own story is excellent, including his son now, Max McRae, taking on Europe, rallying over there and seemingly on the same path.
- 0:46And some recollections of the weapon, the ex-possum born WRX that Alistair has.
- 0:52driven too.
- 0:53That's a nice one.
- 0:54There is a two-parter in there with Calvin Fish as well.
- 0:57Now, if you don't immediately recognize the name, let me tempt you to listen.
- 1:01Commentator for IMSA Sports Cars in America.
- 1:03You'll know him as the expert voice alongside Lee Diffie at the Le Mans 24-hour over the years and the Daytona 24-2.
- 1:12But Calvin's junior career saw him race alongside Etten Senna and Martin Brundle.
- 1:17Some awesome backstories in that one, including...
- 1:21playing Space Invaders, or Galaga I think it was, against Senna, and how it was a window into Senna's competitive side.
- 1:28Let's get straight to GT, we haven't spoken to him for a while.
- 1:32He will be on the mic for the Ned Whiskey Tasmania Super Sprint this weekend on Fox Sports and Sky in New Zealand, and not long before he pulls that helmet back on for the Enduros with Penrite Racing.
- 1:44Hello mate, welcome back to the garage.
- 1:46Thanks mate, thanks for having me back on.
- 1:48fittingly, we find you sitting in a car.
- 1:50Where the heck are you in the world?
- 1:52What are you doing?
- 1:54It's the lifestyles of the glamorous at the moment.
- 1:57So everyone's, oh, supercars, you know, especially you work in TV.
- 2:01It must be glamorous lifestyle.
- 2:04This week, I'm on the supercars, he knows supercars tour through original Victoria.
- 2:10with Aaron Noonan, and he's got this program going with Hino, that we are doing three sportsman's nights through regional Victoria.
- 2:19So we did SAIL in eastern Victoria, Bendigo, and Ballarat all this week in the lead-up to Tassie coming up this weekend for Super Cup.
- 2:29literally on tour and with your commentary colleague, Neil Crompton, there would have been some great old stories there, I would imagine.
- 2:36Yeah.
- 2:36Yeah.
- 2:36We had, um, had Neil join us, uh, in Bendigo, uh, which was fun because, um, uh, as you know, Rusty, what you've got to do is you've got to strike early.
- 2:47And, and if you're going to give each other a hard time, you've got to get in first.
- 2:51So he was actually, um,
- 2:53It was random.
- 2:54We got called out onto the stage.
- 2:55Aaron brought us out on stage.
- 2:57And Neil couldn't get the microphone working.
- 2:59And he literally couldn't figure out how to turn it on.
- 3:01I was like, come on, cheese.
- 3:03All these years.
- 3:04You've been in this broadcasting game for a little while now.
- 3:07Surely you know how to turn a microphone on.
- 3:08So that's what I opened with.
- 3:10And the punters loved it.
- 3:11No way we went.
- 3:12Excellent stuff.
- 3:13They're great those nights.
- 3:14And if people listening haven't been to them before, I'm sure Aaron will do some more as the season and even next year goes on, get amongst it.
- 3:22Observations from you, if we can, of the season so far.
- 3:25So, I mean, obviously losing your Bathurst winning –
- 3:30co-driver in SVG to the United States.
- 3:32But I think as Chad Nalon said to me offline recently, it's been like this arrival of the new wave of youngsters.
- 3:41Do you feel like that and that there's been some good stories there?
- 3:44Oh yeah, there's clearly been some good stories.
- 3:46Obviously, at the start of the year when Will Brown jumped from Erebus to Red Bull Triple 8, everyone was like, oh gee, how's Will going to go there?
- 3:55You know, different team, different environment to Erebus.
- 3:57And Brock Feeney's obviously been there a couple of years and it's sort of his team and
- 4:01So Will turned up, stuck it on pole at the very first race meeting and sort of marked his intentions from there.
- 4:07And so at the start of the year, we saw this great battle between the two Red Bull guys in Brock and Will.
- 4:12And it sort of seemed like, wow, no one's going to catch these two.
- 4:15It's like they're going to win the championship just by how much.
- 4:18But as the years progressed, they've been very un-triple-eight and they've had a couple of weekends in a row where performance hasn't been what we'd expect from them.
- 4:27And Chas Mostert and Walkenstra and Dredda United have,
- 4:30sort of come on strong and Cam Waters started disastrously, but he's been super fast.
- 4:36And then the emergence of Matty Payne.
- 4:38So there's been lots of storylines throughout the year.
- 4:40And he sort of has me sit here one round to go prior to the endurance races.
- 4:44There's a lot of chat about
- 4:46Can Red Bull hang on?
- 4:48Is the Chas threat real?
- 4:50Can Chas Mostert bounce back?
- 4:51Can Matt Payne win more races?
- 4:53Is there anyone else that's going to come out of the pack?
- 4:55Nick Burkett at Matt Stone Racing has been very strong.
- 4:58So there's been heaps to, I mean, you know, in the TV world, there's been heaps to talk about because there's plenty of players in the game.
- 5:04Can I pick up on two things that you said there?
- 5:06Firstly, the likelihood that Matt Payne can deliver more.
- 5:09I mean, I thought he's done so far some brilliant things there.
- 5:13And then the Mostert and WAU thing, I think, seems real.
- 5:19They're going to be good in the back end of this year, aren't they?
- 5:21Yeah, they are.
- 5:23They've been absolutely real.
- 5:25They've had a couple of rounds, though, like Darwin, for example, on the super soft tyre, where they came off the back of Perth and absolutely blitzed everyone, and speed-wise.
- 5:35So you'd expect, oh, wow, they're going to go to Darwin and be strong.
- 5:38But on the super soft tyre, they were nowhere.
- 5:40Like Chas qualified outside the top 20 in both races.
- 5:43Recovered pretty well in the races, but didn't have the one lap speed.
- 5:47And we go to Tassie this weekend on the super soft tyre.
- 5:51And if you don't qualify, if you qualify outside the top 20, you're not going to get yourself back in the game at Tassie.
- 5:56Such an important factor qualifying strongly.
- 6:00Is it real?
- 6:01We'll find out at Tassie this weekend.
- 6:04And I was actually asked in the broadcast at Sydney, can they win the championship?
- 6:09On speed, yes.
- 6:10I think they have the speed to win the championship.
- 6:14But when it comes down to,
- 6:16you know, real championship battle, like real hardcore, you know, going at it, grinding it out.
- 6:22And it becomes not just a game on track, it became the game off track with the head games and the teams getting involved about executing pit stops and just executing under pressure.
- 6:34You've got to remember, Triple Eight have been doing that year in, year out for the last 15 years.
- 6:39And the last time that the Walkinshaw...
- 6:41group won a championship with what I won in 2007.
- 6:45So it's been a long time since they've been in that championship hunt and been championship hardened.
- 6:50So on speed, yes, they can win.
- 6:53But can they do it when the pressure's really on as a team unit?
- 6:57We'll find out.
- 6:58Cool.
- 6:58One of five events to go.
- 6:59As you say, last stop before the Enduros.
- 7:02Garth, I can't throw stones because I'm talking to you from New Zealand, but it is going to be cold there.
- 7:07I think it starts around six or seven degrees in the morning, but the Bureau says highs of maybe 18 degrees.
- 7:12And did I see that there is the chance of some showers too?
- 7:15Is that right?
- 7:16Yeah, there's some chance, particularly on the Friday.
- 7:19So we've only got a one-half-hour practice session on Friday, and then there's another practice session Saturday morning.
- 7:23So the highest chance of rain is Friday, which the teams, you know, they'll run in the wet if it's wet because it is Simmons Plains and the weather is fickle down there and it does blow in very, very quickly.
- 7:35So if there's Saturday, they're saying there's about a 60% chance of one to five mil of rain.
- 7:41So that could be in Tasmania, particularly at Simmons Plains, 100% chance of 10 mil of rain or 100% chance of no rain whatsoever.
- 7:48Because it is literally on a plane down there.
- 7:50You know what it's like, Rusty?
- 7:51It's in the middle of this big, flat land mass.
- 7:54So the weather can blow in pretty quickly.
- 7:58You said it's going to be cold.
- 8:00It's actually not going to be as cold as everyone sort of thought it might be.
- 8:04So if it's 16, 17 degrees, as long as it's not blowing a gale, it'll actually be quite pleasant.
- 8:09Yep.
- 8:10We've had a little giggle there, but in real terms, mate, it's a fantastic ball ring.
- 8:14The fans turn up in droves because a bit like New Zealand, they love it down there.
- 8:19You've talked about tyre for the weekend and so on.
- 8:22What about a couple of little other things that fans need to be mindful of around Simmons Plains?
- 8:28And I think,
- 8:28Craig Lowndes talked in his column for Supercars this week about timing from the team around people on track at the key moments of qualifying and racing and so on.
- 8:41Yeah, look, it's a challenging place.
- 8:44You were saying how well the event is supported, and it is really well supported in Tasmania.
- 8:48And these events like New Zealand, like Tasmania, like Darwin –
- 8:53like Perth, because we only get to those sort of far, further away destinations once a year, they will support it.
- 9:02It's Tasmania's biggest sporting event of the year when supercars come to town.
- 9:06So there's always great support down there.
- 9:09The track itself, everyone sort of looks at it and goes, oh, it's short.
- 9:13Oh, it needs to be longer.
- 9:14There's only three or four real corners.
- 9:17But I like that about it.
- 9:18I like the fact that it's so challenging.
- 9:20There's only really three corners.
- 9:21That's in those planes.
- 9:22There's three very different types of corners.
- 9:25And because it is a short lap and the lap time's around the 51-second mark, you have to get those three corners absolutely perfect.
- 9:32Perfect.
- 9:33And if you don't get it right, you get penalized heavily because the times are so close.
- 9:37So if you make a small mistake at the hairpin at turn four, for example, and lose a tenth of a second, that's the difference between qualifying second and qualifying 14.
- 9:45So you get massively penalized if you don't get it right.
- 9:48So I like the challenge of that at Simmons Plains.
- 9:51One of the real challenges this weekend, even though it is, we did say 16, 17 degrees, it's going to be tyre temperature in qualifying.
- 9:59So it's going to be about making sure you got the right tyre temperature, particularly the front tyre, with the right track position.
- 10:06So getting yourself in the right position, and that's probably a little bit about what Craig was talking about in this column, about the timing side of things.
- 10:13It's lining up your car position on track.
- 10:16the time left to go in the session, the tyre temperature being right where it needs to be, and then maximising that opportunity in the session because qualifying is so important.
- 10:25So I love it.
- 10:26It's high-intensity racing.
- 10:28There's not a lot of tyre degradation, so you can drive the car really hard all the way through the race.
- 10:33So that means that the drivers make more mistakes.
- 10:36So it's always something going on at Tassie.
- 10:38It's always really exciting.
- 10:40Final stop before you jump back behind the wheel too.
- 10:42You're looking forward to Sandown and Bathurst.
- 10:44We touched on Matt Payne there before.
- 10:46Clifford, as the team now call him, he just keeps getting better, doesn't he?
- 10:51Yeah, he does.
- 10:52He's doing a really good job.
- 10:56He's got a huge amount of natural talent.
- 10:58He's got a very, very good...
- 11:00Very impressive feel for the car and he's a very different, you mentioned Shane Van Giesbergen who I used to drive with.
- 11:09He's a very different character to Shane, but he's got very similar traits in his feel for the car.
- 11:15Okay.
- 11:16And he's got this innate feel of what the tire is doing and how the tire is reacting underneath him, if you like.
- 11:23And Shane was very similar like that.
- 11:24It's something that you can't really teach
- 11:26It's something that you can't really feel or learn.
- 11:29It's just something that you have.
- 11:31And Matt's very similar to Shane in that respect.
- 11:34That's probably the only similarity to Shane in that respect.
- 11:36They're very, very different characters.
- 11:39But Matt's doing a very good job.
- 11:41And he's also learning this year how much work you have to do outside of the car.
- 11:46Because...
- 11:48He's been very successful in karting.
- 11:49He's been very successful in all the junior categories in the run up to supercars.
- 11:53But when you get to supercars, there's 24 drivers and there's 24 champions.
- 11:57They've all had success on the way up.
- 11:59So when you're racing in the junior category, there's only three or four drivers that you really have to race against.
- 12:05But in the main game, everyone's had success.
- 12:07That's why they're in the main game.
- 12:08So he's just now starting to realize how much work you have to put in.
- 12:12prior to the event, how much preparation you need to do.
- 12:15And I think that's as we're now seeing as a result of the work that he's learning that he has to do through this year, as he gets better at that, the performances are starting to become stronger and stronger on track as well.
- 12:25which is good news for me, Rusty.
- 12:27Absolutely.
- 12:28I mean, are you enjoying all that still?
- 12:30And do you sort of feel a bit like Craig, that you'll just keep going in an endurance mode as long as you enjoy it?
- 12:37Or do you have in the back of your mind a plan of other things you would like to do before it gets too far down the track?
- 12:44I don't really have a timeline set on the driving thing.
- 12:49I'll keep driving as long as the team finds that I'm beneficial from an engineering point of view, from a leadership point of view, particularly within the team.
- 12:58Going forward with, you know, Matt this year only being 21 and...
- 13:02And then next year with Kai Allen joining the team, who's only just 18.
- 13:05So, you know, if they feel that there's some benefit with me driving-wise, with my experience, then I'll keep doing it as long as... One, I'm fast, and two, I'm enjoying it.
- 13:14Three, I'm beneficial.
- 13:16But then also, I'm doing more and more stuff in the background with Grove Racing or Penrith Racing as well.
- 13:24So the driving aspect of what I do with the team now is actually probably the smaller aspect of...
- 13:29what I do and so I'm enjoying I enjoy driving the cars still enjoy the challenge of jumping into the test day and trying to beat the main game guys and being faster than them straight away so still got a bit of a few competitive bones in my body mate good the Kai Allen thing was a huge coup as you say a lot of talent coming in at a young age what's the kind of thing you reckon he needs to do over the next six months or so just to prep himself for that that big step
- 13:53Yeah, look, it's a big step from the Dunlop series to the main game.
- 13:57And anyone that's made that jump in the past has really, I don't know if underestimated the jump, but has really just not expected the level of intensity that's in the main game.
- 14:08And you could be racing for 22nd in the main game and it's the hardest race of your life ever.
- 14:14So just, you know, for him, just understanding that...
- 14:19I mentioned before, Kai's had a lot of success in the junior categories, in the Dunlop Super 3 category when he first started in a supercar, and then obviously won the Dunlop Super 2 championship and is leading the Super 2 championship this year.
- 14:32But in realistic terms, there's only six, seven cars.
- 14:37until you compete against.
- 14:38And that was what I was talking about earlier in those junior categories.
- 14:42So the intensity is not, you know, a bad day in the Dunlop series is you qualify eight.
- 14:46A bad day in the main game is you qualify last.
- 14:49So that's a big difference.
- 14:51So it's a big difference mentally getting your head around that.
- 14:54So it's more the mental preparation.
- 14:56It's more just understanding and respecting the championship before you get there.
- 15:02But Kai's an impressive young man.
- 15:03I've spent a bit of time with him in the past.
- 15:08and since the announcement.
- 15:09And his head's very, very firmly screwed on his shoulders.
- 15:14He knows what challenge he has ahead of him.
- 15:18He also understands that if he's successful this year in the Dunlop Series, he'll be the only back-to-back Dunlop Series champion.
- 15:25But that puts a little, you know, even though you're a rookie coming into the main game next year, the main game guys will not make it easy for him.
- 15:32So he also respects that that's going to be a challenge.
- 15:34So that's the work that will happen over the summer break.
- 15:38You know, he's still got to deliver.
- 15:40He's got to go and he's driving for the opposition at Sandown and Bathurst.
- 15:42He's driving for Shelby Power Racing.
- 15:45He's still got his Dunlop Series Championship.
- 15:46And the final round of that is at Adelaide.
- 15:49And once all that's locked away, then we'll look to start to ramp up his preparations ahead of next year's championship.
- 15:54We'll sneak a quick break here on Rusty's Garage.
- 15:56More with Garth Tander in just a few moments.
- 16:02For this episode of the Shortcast, we're joined by Supercars commentator and five-time Bathurst 1000 winner Garth Tander with the Enduros just around the corner.
- 16:11Can he add a sixth title to that tally?
- 16:14Solid chance in that Penrite Racing Mustang with Matt Payne.
- 16:19Let's get back to the convo now.
- 16:21a couple of listeners asking just about engine performance, Ford v Chev.
- 16:27From what you've observed with all that hard work that's gone in from supercars and so on, do you feel like that's closer, that's better?
- 16:32Oh, it's really hard to judge from the outside, Rusty, because some weekends you look at it and you go, oh yeah, it looks really, really close.
- 16:42And some weekends you look at it and it's one way or the other, whether it's Chev or it's Ford.
- 16:48So the work that supercars are doing at the moment on the AVL Transit Dyno in the US is world's best practice.
- 16:55We saw, you know, I think that the work that the category did over the summer break last year in the wind tunnel looks to have fixed any aero issues between the two cars.
- 17:07And the same will be true of the engines once this dyno testing is done.
- 17:11I mean...
- 17:12I actually, last year, when I was watching the championship before I actually raced in the championship at Sandown, I thought, oh, it actually doesn't look that bad, the Ford thing.
- 17:21And then I jumped in the car and lap four up the back straight at Sandown.
- 17:24I was like, holy smokes, the Ford engine's a long way behind, the Chev engine.
- 17:28So you don't really know until you're in it.
- 17:30So it's hard for me.
- 17:30Yeah.
- 17:33You know, we're hearing less and less about the engine things.
- 17:36Yes.
- 17:36And that's generally a pretty good indicator of, you know, the guys that are driving them week in, week out are speaking less about it, and that's a pretty good indicator.
- 17:44Lots to play out in terms of the driver market, the silly season too, mate.
- 17:49I think that'll be a lot of conversations around that between now and the end of the year.
- 17:53I would like, in a kind of fan sense, to think that Richie Stanaway might find a seat when the music stops.
- 18:00Do you think that he can?
- 18:01And what do you reckon there?
- 18:04Yeah, I hope so.
- 18:05I certainly hope so.
- 18:06You know, there's been a lot of chat since the announcement that Richie and Penrite Racing won't be together next year, that he wasn't given a fair chance and all the rest of it.
- 18:16But Richie knew going in that it was only a 12-month deal.
- 18:19And it just hasn't worked.
- 18:20And it hasn't been results-based.
- 18:23It's just been, you know, the relationship, the gelling of parties, you know, the driver-team relationship just hasn't gelled.
- 18:29So that doesn't mean that it won't gel somewhere else.
- 18:33And certainly the position from the team I know with Richie was that, although we're not going to be working together in 2025, we would love nothing more for you to have success in the remainder of 2024 to give you the best opportunity for next year to get yourself a seat, hopefully full-time, but even in a co-driver role going forward.
- 18:55So look, I hope that he does land.
- 18:58On the grid in some capacity, there's a huge amount of talent in there.
- 19:02You can see it in the data, but for whatever reason, it just hasn't come out this year.
- 19:08So, yeah, look, for me personally, I'd love to see Richie racing.
- 19:12It just hasn't worked out at Penright Racing, but that's not to say it won't work somewhere else.
- 19:17Let's hustle through the final few here.
- 19:20Been broadcasting for a while now and doing a terrific job of that with Supercars TV.
- 19:25How are you finding it there?
- 19:26And did you enjoy doing the kind of expert role in the Bathurst 12 Hour alongside Richard Crayle?
- 19:32I thought you flew there and that that combination was awesome.
- 19:36That was a little addition to the CV.
- 19:38Yeah.
- 19:39Yeah, look, I really do enjoy the broadcast stuff.
- 19:43I still very much feel like I'm the apprentice kid in the broadcast world.
- 19:48And I'm mindful of the fact that I'm not a broadcaster.
- 19:52I didn't grow up going to any media school.
- 19:55I've done no formal media training.
- 19:58So I'm not you, Rusty.
- 20:00I don't have that formal background.
- 20:03So therefore, I don't try and be...
- 20:05that type of broadcaster.
- 20:07I'm very much a driver that gives his opinion of someone that's been in the paddock for 25, 26 years.
- 20:14So from that point of view, I really enjoy it.
- 20:18I try and stay relaxed and just don't get too wound up about it all.
- 20:23And the feedback that I get is that it comes across that way, which is nice to hear.
- 20:29So yes, I do enjoy it.
- 20:30The 12-hour stuff is great, and I treat it like laps.
- 20:35It's like when you're a race car driver, the more laps you do, the better you are, right?
- 20:39Yep.
- 20:39So what better way of getting more laps than doing a 12-hour race, doing a 12-hour stint?
- 20:45So sitting with Richard Crale and John Hindolf from Radio Le Mans for 12 hours is...
- 20:52is really cool.
- 20:53And obviously, I've driven those cars quite a bit, the GT3 cars that race at the Bathurst 12, where I've driven them a lot.
- 20:59And so I've got a lot of experience with those cars and that race.
- 21:04So, yeah, it's good laps, Rusty.
- 21:07It's good testing and good preparation for just any opportunity that you get to sit in the comms box.
- 21:12Keep being you because that comes through and it sounds terrific.
- 21:15Karting with family, how's all that going?
- 21:18Busy.
- 21:22I sort of really now retrospectively respect what my parents did for me.
- 21:26Yeah, we do a lot of racing.
- 21:32The kids really enjoy it.
- 21:34I enjoy it.
- 21:36People sort of say, oh, you know, does he want to be the kids?
- 21:38And both my kids, my daughter Scarlett and my son Sebastian, they're both braves.
- 21:42And they, oh, is there, you know, is either I'm going to be a supercar driver or go to Formula One.
- 21:46And that's not the grand plan.
- 21:48That's certainly not the grand plan.
- 21:49The reason we started karting and still remains to this day is that.
- 21:54I still have very fond memories as a teenager spending my weekends with my parents.
- 22:00Cool.
- 22:00And that was away karting.
- 22:02So, you know, rather than being off partying or hanging out with your mates at the shopping center or, you know, just generally being a troublemaker somewhere, I was with my parents spending time doing what I obviously loved, karting.
- 22:16And so I wanted to try and replicate that with my kids.
- 22:20And, um, like my 13 year old daughter, Scarlett, she's 13 going on 25.
- 22:25So, um, she, I know, don't worry.
- 22:29I know.
- 22:31You've seen her in action.
- 22:32So, um, she, you know, spending the time in the car with her.
- 22:37Driving to the track, whether it's a country race or hanging out at the racetrack in the kart trailer in between races, is really, really special time.
- 22:45And if they're having a great time on the racetrack or they're having a great time at the track with their friends as well, that's just a benefit.
- 22:51So karting teaches you, any motorsport teaches you a huge amount of resilience because you have more bad days than good days.
- 22:57It teaches you you have to work hard.
- 22:59It teaches you a lot of things other than driving fast.
- 23:02So that's the stuff that we go carding for.
- 23:05It's not so much that, you know, one day they want to be, well, Sebastian wants to be the next Xavier Gisberg and he's not that interested in being in the next Valter Tander.
- 23:12perspective.
- 23:13I love it.
- 23:14Great bonding time for you.
- 23:15Let's finish with SVG.
- 23:16Have you been keeping an eye on him?
- 23:17What do you reckon?
- 23:17He's going super well there, isn't he?
- 23:20I watch some of his races.
- 23:21When he crashes, I tell him he's useless.
- 23:23When he wins, I tell him he's going okay.
- 23:26So we still have a lot of banter over text.
- 23:29Oh, look, it's, you know, I am not surprised that he's going as well as he is because, you know, I was fortunate enough to be very close to him for three or four years as a teammate.
- 23:42Yeah, does doing a really good job, particularly on the ovals.
- 23:45I mean, you think about a lot of the ovals that he turns up to.
- 23:47One, never seen the joint, let alone driven it.
- 23:51Some of the races this year have been washed out in practice.
- 23:53So the first time he either drives a car is in qualifying.
- 23:56Sometimes qualifying's been washed out, and the first time he drives a car on the track he's never seen before is in the race.
- 24:02And he's still troubling the top 10 in the Xfinity series.
- 24:05So...
- 24:05pretty impressive and everything you read about the people that are in NASCAR, heavily impressed about what he's doing.
- 24:12So, you know, he hasn't said anything to me officially, but certainly hope that he can stitch together a main game, you know, a cup ride next year full time.
- 24:21And you think about, you know,
- 24:24Probably just over 12 months ago, it was just that one-off race at Chicago to where he is now, being in a conversation to being in the main game full-time.
- 24:31Pretty impressive rise.
- 24:33Very impressive on his work there, but we hope it's just as impressive for you behind the wheel for the Enduros.
- 24:38Keep giving him heaps.
- 24:40Go well behind the wheel at Sandown and at the Mountain and give those broadcast colleagues of yours plenty of stick this weekend.
- 24:45Enjoy the Apple Island.
- 24:47Thank you for chatting to us today.
- 24:49Cheers, Rusty.
- 24:51He is fantastic, isn't he?
- 24:52Great currency that he brings to the coverage.
- 24:54And having dealt with him for years now, I promise you that it's the same Garth Tander on camera, on television, that you get in a pod chat like that or one of those fantastic nights for fans that the sleuth...
- 25:06Noons has organised over time, or even if you meet Garth Tracksider, as I know many of you have done.
- 25:11Before we go, I'm off to the Singapore Grand Prix again next month, so we'll aim to get some pods turned around for you there, a bit of F1 flavour.
- 25:19And Emma Gilmore is chatting to us next week, back rallying after that massive crash in Extreme E, another leading light for women in motorsport in this part of the world who works, as you'll hear, in automotive too.
- 25:32Oh, and an email just through...
- 25:34We finally look like nailing down the goat, Ricky Carmichael.
- 25:38I've been promising that.
- 25:39I know he's been away and so have I.
- 25:41Keep an eye out for notifications on that in the weeks ahead.
- 25:45And don't forget the new addition to the Rusty's Garage offering, what we're doing around today.
- 25:51supercars events i step back and just let the drivers take over the studio it's called drivers only it is fantastic different panel of drivers each time they're all currently on the grid and conversations that are unlike anything that you've probably listened to elsewhere search for it in our garage library at listener or wherever you get your pods that is it from me for today thank you for listening it's good to be back bye for now
