- 0:05Speaker 1: As we approach America's big two hundred and fiftieth Birthday weekend,
- 0:10Speaker 1: it's time to catch up with Country Weekly, where we
- 0:13Speaker 1: check out news and gossip from the world of country music.
- 0:18Speaker 1: I'm your host, Ken Dawkins, and I will be reading
- 0:20Speaker 1: from various sources found online. As a reminder, RADIOI is
- 0:24Speaker 1: a reading service intended for people who are blind or
- 0:27Speaker 1: have other disabilities that make it difficult to read printed material.
- 0:32Speaker 1: We'll begin with the first article inside Country Legend Alan
- 0:35Speaker 1: Jackson's Triumphant Finale concert from Yahoo Entertainment dot Com, dated
- 0:40Speaker 1: the twenty eighth of June. The time has come for
- 0:44Speaker 1: country music superstar Alan Jackson to hang up his signature
- 0:47Speaker 1: stetson hat. The genre traditionalist from Noon and Georgia, whose
- 0:52Speaker 1: career kicked off in the nineteen eighties and exploded shortly
- 0:55Speaker 1: thereafter in the off sited nineties country wave with heartfelt
- 0:58Speaker 1: songs for the working man who'd rather be drinking or
- 1:01Speaker 1: fishing or ideally both had sold over sixty million records
- 1:06Speaker 1: across his storied career, and last Saturday Night at Nissan
- 1:10Speaker 1: Stadium in Nashville, he brought his touring career to an end.
- 1:14Speaker 1: The event titled Last Call One More for the Road.
- 1:16Speaker 1: The finale was a triumphant swan song for the performer,
- 1:20Speaker 1: the celebration of his life and career, with some help
- 1:22Speaker 1: from the artists he directly inspired. It was a concert
- 1:26Speaker 1: in two movements. The first two hours were made up
- 1:29Speaker 1: of a marathon run of Jackson covers from some of
- 1:32Speaker 1: the biggest names in contemporary country, and each performer had
- 1:36Speaker 1: a personal story to share. Carrie Underwood sang Everything I
- 1:39Speaker 1: Love after revealing that Jackson was her first ever concert
- 1:43Speaker 1: in nineteen ninety four at the Tulsa State Fair. Thomas
- 1:47Speaker 1: Rhet warmed up the crowd with small town Southern Man,
- 1:50Speaker 1: an appropriate choice for a singer currently living the song's lyrics.
- 1:53Speaker 1: He's father to four girls. The Texas born and bred
- 1:57Speaker 1: Miranda Lambert performed Dallas Landy Wilson got the crowd moving
- 2:00Speaker 1: with Tall, Tall Trees. It's almost impossible to pick a
- 2:04Speaker 1: favorite Alan Jackson's song, but I had to try, said
- 2:08Speaker 1: Luke Colmes before launching into hard Hat in a Hammer.
- 2:11Speaker 1: Each performer played with Jackson's backing band, except for Eric Church,
- 2:16Speaker 1: who opted to cover Someday with just his voice and
- 2:18Speaker 1: an acoustic guitar. It was an all star night for
- 2:22Speaker 1: one of country music's most colossal voices. Other guest performers
- 2:26Speaker 1: included Luke, Bryan, Riley Green, Cody Johnson, Little Big Town,
- 2:29Speaker 1: Jake Owen, John Party, Leanne Womack, and a slew of
- 2:33Speaker 1: super talented members of Jackson's own family, Adam Wright, Big City,
- 2:37Speaker 1: Brian Wright, and Carlyle Wright. Five years ago, the sixty
- 2:41Speaker 1: seven year old music giant Jackson share that he has
- 2:44Speaker 1: a degenitive nerve condition that affects his balance, called Charcott
- 2:48Speaker 1: Marie Tooth disease, which he was first diagnosed with a
- 2:51Speaker 1: decade prior. He said it was a genetic condition and
- 2:55Speaker 1: its effects on his ability to walk and perform had
- 2:57Speaker 1: become more noticeable. One dollar of every ticket sold on
- 3:01Speaker 1: Saturday night went to the CMT Research Foundation, an organization
- 3:05Speaker 1: that funds research to find a cure for Shaka Marie Tooth.
- 3:09Speaker 1: When it was time for Jackson to hit the stage
- 3:11Speaker 1: at about nine thirty five pm after a storm delay
- 3:14Speaker 1: of about an hour, he was met with ear piercing cheers.
- 3:18Speaker 1: The singer appeared stiff as he walked to his microphone,
- 3:21Speaker 1: but once he picked up his guitar for the opener,
- 3:23Speaker 1: Gone Country. He was immediately back in action with that
- 3:26Speaker 1: smoky baritone and timeless songs, though strumming was kept to
- 3:30Speaker 1: a minimum. It's overwhelming, he addressed the crowd, before assuring
- 3:33Speaker 1: that he would not spend too much time on that
- 3:35Speaker 1: last show stuff, I'm not dead. The Country Music Hall
- 3:39Speaker 1: of Famer ran through his best known.
- 3:41Speaker 2: Hits with real ferocity.
- 3:43Speaker 1: I Don't Even Know Your Name arrived quickly, as did
- 3:45Speaker 1: Livin on Love, Summertime Blues, and The Moody Midnight in Montgomery.
- 3:49Speaker 1: As the music videos for each played on a giant
- 3:52Speaker 1: screen behind him, He made it a point to walk
- 3:55Speaker 1: from to side of the stage, greeting each section while
- 3:58Speaker 1: championing his band and the power of real country music.
- 4:02Speaker 1: If anyone has lived the American dream, he said. Later,
- 4:04Speaker 1: while seated on a stool, it's me. Anecdotes flowed from there.
- 4:09Speaker 1: He talked about writing I'd Love You All over Again
- 4:11Speaker 1: for his wife on their tenth wedding anniversary, and how
- 4:14Speaker 1: the radio from Chasing That Neon Rainbow is currently in
- 4:16Speaker 1: the Country Music Hall of Fame Museum, and he mentioned
- 4:19Speaker 1: the drive for Daddy Jean was written after his father died.
- 4:24Speaker 1: An hour into his set, Jackson teased the audience by
- 4:26Speaker 1: saying he needed some help for the next song. Out
- 4:29Speaker 1: emerged George Strait for their collaborations designed I'm Sorry, Designated Drink,
- 4:34Speaker 1: and Murder on Music Row. Then came an incredible run
- 4:37Speaker 1: of hits, Little Bitty Country Boy, Good Time, and Where
- 4:40Speaker 1: Were You When the World Stopped Turning? Among them, the
- 4:43Speaker 1: latter written and recorded following the September eleventh terror attacks.
- 4:47Speaker 1: Lockblusters singles followed Don't Rock the Jukebox, Remember When, and
- 4:51Speaker 1: It's five o'clock Somewhere, the latter recording famously featuring the
- 4:55Speaker 1: late Margheritaville singer Jimmy Buffett. Fireworks were launched into the
- 4:59Speaker 1: sky for Chattahoochee. Just because this is the end of
- 5:03Speaker 1: Jackson's touring career doesn't mean it's the end of his
- 5:06Speaker 1: music career. On Thursday, two days before the final concert blowout,
- 5:10Speaker 1: Jackson released a country cover of Orleans Still the One
- 5:13Speaker 1: to celebrate his fifty year relationship with wife and high
- 5:16Speaker 1: school sweetheart Denise Jackson. She was a cheerleader practicing a
- 5:20Speaker 1: dance routine to the soft rock classic. He was instantly
- 5:23Speaker 1: smitten for those who miss Jackson's final blow, the final Bow.
- 5:28Speaker 1: The show will be released later in the year as
- 5:30Speaker 1: an NBC concert special, But for those who were in
- 5:33Speaker 1: the stadium in the middle of a huge storm, it
- 5:35Speaker 1: was an unrepeatable and unmistakable night. Now we scoot on
- 5:40Speaker 1: over to countrynow dot com with the first article dated
- 5:43Speaker 1: June twenty ninth. Red Akins overcome with emotion after surprise
- 5:47Speaker 1: Grand Old Opry invitation. Red Akins received the surprise of
- 5:52Speaker 1: a lifetime on Sunday evening when his friend and Opry
- 5:54Speaker 1: member John Party invited him to become a member of
- 5:57Speaker 1: the Grand Old Opry, Aikins and Nashville Songwriter's Hall of
- 6:00Speaker 1: Fame member responsible for writing thirty five chart topping hits
- 6:04Speaker 1: for artists like Blake Shelton, Luke Bryant, and his son
- 6:07Speaker 1: Thomas Rhett. He was wrapping up his Opery performance when
- 6:10Speaker 1: John Party made a surprise entrance to the stage to
- 6:13Speaker 1: deliver the invitation. Redd has always been somebody who has
- 6:17Speaker 1: always been a mentor and taught a lot to me
- 6:19Speaker 1: about how to write songs, how to be a co writer.
- 6:22Speaker 1: He has over thirty number ones. Party said, You've always
- 6:25Speaker 1: been a family to me, but I'm here to invite
- 6:27Speaker 1: you to be part of a different family, Red Akins,
- 6:30Speaker 1: I'm here to invite you to become a member of
- 6:32Speaker 1: the Grand Old Opry. As Aikins's wife, Sonia, and his
- 6:36Speaker 1: children joined him on stage, he was overcome with emotion.
- 6:39Speaker 1: He took his hat off, wiped away tears, and embraced Party.
- 6:43Speaker 1: He then knelt to the ground and appeared to be
- 6:45Speaker 1: holding back tears as he said, all I do every
- 6:48Speaker 1: day is write words, and I can't think of any
- 6:50Speaker 1: words right now except thank you Lord Jesus. He ain't
- 6:53Speaker 1: my truck. Singer continued, I have been listening to the
- 6:56Speaker 1: Grand Old Operation since I was a little kid, with
- 6:58Speaker 1: my grandparents watching it. Then used to be on TNN
- 7:03Speaker 1: anytime they'd asked me to play. If I was in Alaska,
- 7:05Speaker 1: I'd fly home immediately. I love country music with all
- 7:08Speaker 1: my heart, and all I ever wanted to do was
- 7:10Speaker 1: meet Hank Junior, meet George Strait. I never dreamed I'd
- 7:13Speaker 1: be in this circle right here with Bill mon Rome
- 7:15Speaker 1: and he Pearl, roy Acoff, Garth and Allen and John Party.
- 7:19Speaker 1: This is just unbelievable. After the show, Aikens continued the
- 7:23Speaker 1: celebration at a post show party with fans and Opry
- 7:26Speaker 1: House Studio A where John Party joined him from medley
- 7:29Speaker 1: of songs and a high energy performance of Dirt on
- 7:31Speaker 1: My Boots written by Akins, Jesse Fraser and Ashley Gorley,
- 7:35Speaker 1: which went on to become Party's second career number one
- 7:38Speaker 1: and one of his biggest hits. Later in studio a set,
- 7:42Speaker 1: Aikens welcomed his son Thomas Rhet to the stage, where
- 7:45Speaker 1: a pair teamed up for an additional hits including What's
- 7:48Speaker 1: Your Country Song, as well as the Merle Haggard classic
- 7:50Speaker 1: Misery and Gin before red Aikin's surprise up ray invitation.
- 7:55Speaker 1: Thomas Read, who was on the secret, opened up about
- 7:58Speaker 1: what the moment meant to him on YA All Access
- 8:00Speaker 1: with Kelly Sutton. Every time I talk to my dad
- 8:03Speaker 1: and he works his butt off. He's still writing to
- 8:06Speaker 1: a day every Monday through Friday. I was like, what's
- 8:09Speaker 1: the rest of you want to achieve? And for him
- 8:11Speaker 1: it has always been I want to be a member
- 8:13Speaker 1: of the Grand Old Opry And I think just as
- 8:16Speaker 1: a son to a dad, knowing how much these means
- 8:18Speaker 1: to him and the hours that he's put in from
- 8:20Speaker 1: the artistry to the songwriting. To get to be able
- 8:23Speaker 1: to watch him do that, it will be the coolest
- 8:25Speaker 1: moment to me as a son, he shared. Agkins will
- 8:28Speaker 1: officially be inducted into the Opry family later this year,
- 8:31Speaker 1: with a date to be announced next Darius Rucker wasn't
- 8:36Speaker 1: expecting this. Lauren Alane's surprise stage moment goes viral. Laura
- 8:42Speaker 1: Alayne is currently on the road with Darius Rucker for
- 8:44Speaker 1: his songs of the summer tour, and when she joined
- 8:47Speaker 1: him on stage in Clarkston, Michigan over the weekend for
- 8:49Speaker 1: a duet of Jackson by Johnny Cash and June Carter Cash,
- 8:53Speaker 1: the performance took an unexpected turn. In the middle of
- 8:56Speaker 1: the song, Elena surprised the country star by teaming up
- 8:59Speaker 1: with rock band for an unexpected performance of Baby Got
- 9:02Speaker 1: Back by Sir Mix a Lot, turning the duet into
- 9:05Speaker 1: a hilarious and unforgettable moment. Elena later shared a video
- 9:09Speaker 1: of the spontaneous moment on social media, which has now
- 9:12Speaker 1: raked in six hundred thousand views on Instagram alone. Darius
- 9:17Speaker 1: asked me to sing Jackson with him last night, but
- 9:19Speaker 1: I had other plans. The text overlay on the video reads.
- 9:22Speaker 1: In the clip, the pair of artists begins singing Jackson
- 9:25Speaker 1: as plan before the band transitions into Baby Got Back.
- 9:29Speaker 1: Elena immediately takes control of the moment, bringing the sass
- 9:32Speaker 1: and energy she's known for. She makes her way to
- 9:35Speaker 1: the front of the crowd, who quickly joins and singing
- 9:37Speaker 1: along to every word while she works the stage and
- 9:39Speaker 1: Rucker laughs. While watching it all unfold, Elena asks fans,
- 9:44Speaker 1: should I add this to the set list immediately or Lorna?
- 9:48Speaker 1: Elena later clarified that the surprise was all part of
- 9:50Speaker 1: the plan, writing his band and I cooked it up
- 9:53Speaker 1: and then asked permission, letting fans know Rucker was in
- 9:55Speaker 1: on the fund. During the performance, she admitted on stage,
- 9:58Speaker 1: I was not supposed to do that, before walking off
- 10:01Speaker 1: and adding, actually that was sick. Fans applauded the performance
- 10:05Speaker 1: in the comments section of her post, The most epic
- 10:08Speaker 1: thing You've ever done, and you've done a lot, one
- 10:10Speaker 1: user wrote. Another shared, I'm at a loss for words.
- 10:13Speaker 2: This is iconic.
- 10:15Speaker 1: Rucker's Songs of Summer tour continues on July sixteenth in
- 10:18Speaker 1: d C, with dates scheduled through August first. Elena is
- 10:22Speaker 1: joining him for select shows, alongside additional featured guests including
- 10:26Speaker 1: George Burge, Robert Randolph, Old Crow Medicine Show, Evan Hohner,
- 10:31Speaker 1: and Austin Williams. In addition to her appearances with Rucker,
- 10:35Speaker 1: Lauren Alena has a full summer ahead with performances at
- 10:38Speaker 1: various festivals before kicking off her Stages tour this fall
- 10:41Speaker 1: in support of her upcoming album of the same name,
- 10:44Speaker 1: arriving on August twenty eighth. Next, Ricky skagg shares the
- 10:49Speaker 1: story behind Say a Prayer, his first new release in
- 10:52Speaker 1: over a decade. Country Music Hall of Famer Ricky Skaggs
- 10:57Speaker 1: returns with his first new release in over a decade
- 10:59Speaker 1: with the powerful Say of Prayer, out now via Skagg's
- 11:03Speaker 1: Family Records and distributed by Virgin Music Group. The song
- 11:06Speaker 1: was written by Gordon Kennedy and Ben Cooper in response
- 11:09Speaker 1: to the struggles impacting communities worldwide. The track explores themes
- 11:14Speaker 1: of faith, reflection, and coming together. Ahead of the song's released,
- 11:18Speaker 1: Skaggs spoke with Country Now backstage at Cmafest, where he
- 11:22Speaker 1: joined Carly Pearce and Molly Tuttle for a special performance
- 11:25Speaker 1: of From Now On on the Nissan Stadium stage. Moments
- 11:30Speaker 1: before taking the stage, the fifteen time Grammy winner shared
- 11:33Speaker 1: the story behind the song, revealing that he originally recorded
- 11:37Speaker 1: it more than fifteen years ago, with plans to include
- 11:40Speaker 1: it on his twenty ten album Mosaic. It's a song
- 11:43Speaker 1: I recorded right at the end of the gospel CD
- 11:46Speaker 1: that I did called Mosaic. We recorded it, but it
- 11:48Speaker 1: just didn't feel like it was to go on that CD,
- 11:51Speaker 1: so we've held it out for all these years, Skaggs revealed.
- 11:54Speaker 1: The eight time CMA Award winner explained that he felt
- 11:57Speaker 1: now was the perfect time to release the song given
- 12:00Speaker 1: the current state.
- 12:01Speaker 2: Of the world.
- 12:02Speaker 1: But right now, with the way the world is, the
- 12:04Speaker 1: way everything's going on in our world, in our life,
- 12:06Speaker 1: I felt like it was the right time for a
- 12:08Speaker 1: message like say a prayer because it talks about war,
- 12:11Speaker 1: it talks about green and it talks about all these things.
- 12:14Speaker 2: He shared.
- 12:15Speaker 1: I see the self made reach for the top, always
- 12:17Speaker 1: an uphill climb. I see the humble down on their knees,
- 12:20Speaker 1: and a God who listens every time we say a prayer.
- 12:24Speaker 1: In a statement, Skags further explained the meaning behind the song,
- 12:27Speaker 1: saying the song addresses a world carrying out a lot
- 12:30Speaker 1: of grief right now, serving as a universal call for
- 12:33Speaker 1: everyone to just stop and lean into faith. Say a
- 12:37Speaker 1: Prayer blends country, bluegrass, and rock influences, featuring a unique
- 12:41Speaker 1: mix of instrumentation including citar, fiddle, mandolin, and banjo. The
- 12:46Speaker 1: track also includes background vocals from Skag's daughter Molly. It's
- 12:50Speaker 1: just a great song and performance, he added. The release
- 12:53Speaker 1: comes during a busy stretch for Skaggs, who continues to
- 12:56Speaker 1: bring his music to stages across the country. In addition
- 12:59Speaker 1: to his own headlining dates. Skaggs and Kentucky Thunder are
- 13:03Speaker 1: currently performing alongside Dirk's Bentley during select stops on the
- 13:07Speaker 1: Off the Map tour. He'll also return to Nashville's iconic
- 13:11Speaker 1: Ryman Auditorium on July twenty first for the closing night
- 13:14Speaker 1: of the Bluegrass Nights at the Rymann Series. Now we
- 13:18Speaker 1: saw her on down Saving Country Music for News and Opinion.
- 13:22Speaker 1: First headline. June thirtieth is the date Billy Strings announce
- 13:26Speaker 1: his new album, So Much for Goodbyes. At the stroke
- 13:30Speaker 1: of midnight Eastern time US Monday evening, Billy Strings revealed
- 13:34Speaker 1: to the world that his newest album, called So much
- 13:36Speaker 1: for goodbyes would be arriving on August twenty eighth, and
- 13:40Speaker 1: laid us all to rest with guaranteed nightmares from the
- 13:43Speaker 1: music video of the album's lead single, Burn the other end,
- 13:47Speaker 1: rest assured. Though no Billy Strings fan is complaining, any
- 13:50Speaker 1: new release from the bluegrass maestro will be met with
- 13:53Speaker 1: great anticipation and an almost guaranteed Grammy nomination. This album
- 13:58Speaker 1: came at a time in my life when I had
- 14:00Speaker 1: a lot to write about. Billy Strings explains, I just
- 14:03Speaker 1: lost my mother last June and still felt the talents
- 14:05Speaker 1: of grief piercing my back. Before she passed, she and
- 14:08Speaker 1: I had planned on trying to use some of her
- 14:10Speaker 1: poetry to make songs from, but that just didn't get
- 14:14Speaker 1: panned out. A lot of her poetry is very stream
- 14:17Speaker 1: of conscious, and I just couldn't figure out how to
- 14:19Speaker 1: put it into a tune.
- 14:21Speaker 2: Maybe someday I will.
- 14:23Speaker 1: Instead, we get sixteen new tracks from Strings that you
- 14:25Speaker 1: can expect, once again will explore the boundaries of bluegrass,
- 14:29Speaker 1: but also adhere and deeply respect the genre's roots. It's
- 14:32Speaker 1: been this combination of reverence for tradition while also breaking
- 14:35Speaker 1: its bounds that there's earned Strings a massive audience full
- 14:38Speaker 1: of bluegrass purists right beside jam grass party kids and
- 14:42Speaker 1: old stone or hippies. Even though Billy's mom did not
- 14:45Speaker 1: contribute any lyrics to the new album, the artwork and
- 14:48Speaker 1: inspiration for the album is hers. Strings goes on to
- 14:53Speaker 1: explain about the inspiration for the title of the new album.
- 14:56Speaker 1: I never got to say goodbye to her. That's why
- 14:58Speaker 1: I wanted to call the albums so Much for Goodbyes.
- 15:01Speaker 1: When I mentioned it to my manager's interpretation of it
- 15:04Speaker 1: was different from mine. I was sad that I didn't
- 15:07Speaker 1: get to say goodbye, but when I told him the
- 15:09Speaker 1: name of the album, he heard it from a different perspective.
- 15:12Speaker 1: It's not goodbye. She's not gone. She's very much still
- 15:15Speaker 1: with me. So much for Goodbyes. On the album's lead single,
- 15:20Speaker 1: Burned the Other End, Billy Strings shows off the darker
- 15:23Speaker 1: side of his artistry, while also proving he doesn't have
- 15:25Speaker 1: to rely on blazing speed to show off his guitar prowess.
- 15:29Speaker 1: He can compose thoughtful and novel guitar melodies in the
- 15:32Speaker 1: mid tempo that are just as impressive and that compliment
- 15:35Speaker 1: his lyricism. The song was co written by Paul Hoffman.
- 15:40Speaker 1: The new album was produced by Billy Strings, with t
- 15:42Speaker 1: Bone Burnett acting as co producer, along with some guest spots.
- 15:46Speaker 1: The album was recorded with Billy's backing band of Alex
- 15:49Speaker 1: Hargraves on fiddle, Billy Failing on banjo, Jared Walker on mandolin,
- 15:53Speaker 1: and Royal Massett on bass. As Billy Strings announces the
- 15:57Speaker 1: new album, he's getting ready to head to Austin, Texas,
- 16:00Speaker 1: where he will film the late latest appearance on Austin
- 16:03Speaker 1: City Limits on July second, and then hang around for
- 16:06Speaker 1: a couple of days to help headline Willie Nelson's Fourth
- 16:08Speaker 1: of July picnic at the Circuit of the Americas. So
- 16:12Speaker 1: Much for Goodbyes is available now. The track list Debrahs Waltz,
- 16:16Speaker 1: I'm one of those, burn the Other End, carry us Home,
- 16:19Speaker 1: lay Me Down, Lucid Daydream, Milltown Flood, Live to Tell, Bluewater, Breakdown,
- 16:25Speaker 1: Like the Way I Like Train Songs, ten thousand Miles
- 16:28Speaker 1: from a Friend, Still, I Crash, I Wish I wanted
- 16:32Speaker 1: to Remember to Cry, and Wrestling an Angel. Next, Charlie
- 16:38Speaker 1: Crockett signs with Atlantic outpost Plot's return of new album.
- 16:43Speaker 1: The Saga continues for Charlie Crockett in his twenty twenty
- 16:46Speaker 1: six album Clovis, with the plot thickening from a new
- 16:49Speaker 1: label signing and a promise for the album's return this Friday,
- 16:53Speaker 1: July third, the day before Independence Day. On Monday, Charlie
- 16:57Speaker 1: Crockett announced that he has signed to Atlantic Outposts. In
- 17:00Speaker 1: a statement on social media, Crockett said, Happy fourth of
- 17:03Speaker 1: July week y'all. Sometimes to be free, you need to
- 17:06Speaker 1: fight Goliath versus Goliath. On this two hundred and fiftieth
- 17:10Speaker 1: birthday for America, I'm reminded that freedom is something you
- 17:13Speaker 1: continue to fight for a war that never ends. Today
- 17:16Speaker 1: we win one battle. Clovis is out July fourth weekend
- 17:19Speaker 1: on Atlantic Outpost.
- 17:21Speaker 2: Let's Ride.
- 17:22Speaker 1: Other artists on Atlantic Outpost include Sturgel Simpson or Johnny Bluesky's,
- 17:27Speaker 1: Sam Barber Stella, Lefty Willow Avalon, Cameron Whitcombe, and The
- 17:30Speaker 1: War Entreaty Officially formed by Jeff Levin and Ian Cripps
- 17:34Speaker 1: in July of last year, the label's slogans moved Fast
- 17:37Speaker 1: and Break Things. Charlie Crockett's surprise released Clovis at eight
- 17:42Speaker 1: pm on Tuesday night, April twenty eighth He subsequently explained
- 17:45Speaker 1: that he was basically dropping the record to get back
- 17:47Speaker 1: at Island Records, who he just released his third and
- 17:50Speaker 1: final album, from Age of the Ram on April third.
- 17:54Speaker 1: It's now a deleted post. Crockett said, every time I
- 17:56Speaker 1: find out I signed a deal I don't like, and
- 17:58Speaker 1: I go to these business people and tell them I
- 18:00Speaker 1: don't like the deal. I don't think it's fair. They say,
- 18:03Speaker 1: tough luck, kid, you shouldn't have signed it in the
- 18:05Speaker 1: first place. As soon as I hold them to that
- 18:08Speaker 1: same standard, I'm the bad guy. However, due to contract
- 18:12Speaker 1: stipulations likely restricting Crockett from releasing new music so soon
- 18:16Speaker 1: after his contract expired, or perhaps that Island would get
- 18:19Speaker 1: first DIBs on any new music recorded while Crockett was
- 18:23Speaker 1: under contract with them, the album was pulled on May sixth. Ever,
- 18:27Speaker 1: since then, Crockett has been trying to reconstitute the title
- 18:30Speaker 1: via streaming and download services, while also giving away CD
- 18:34Speaker 1: copies to fans at CMA fests and live shows. Charlie
- 18:38Speaker 1: Crockett is known as a prolific artist. He recorded Clovis
- 18:41Speaker 1: in the New Mexico town of the same name at
- 18:43Speaker 1: the historic Norman Petty Studios with Shooter Jennings as producer.
- 18:49Speaker 1: Now we move over to Countrycentral dot Com with the
- 18:52Speaker 1: first article dated June thirtieth. Stella Lefty Teas's new song
- 18:56Speaker 1: good at Leaving. Stella Lefty has set to release her
- 19:00Speaker 1: new single good at levin this weekend, The singer songwriter

- 19:14Speaker 1: raised in Glencoe, Illinois, broke through earlier this year with Boston,
- 19:17Speaker 1: a country pop single around an interpolation of Noah Kahan's
- 19:21Speaker 1: Stick Season, for which Kahan received co writing credit. The
- 19:25Speaker 1: song debuted on Billboard Hot one hundred at number ninety
- 19:28Speaker 1: five in April, before climbing into the top twenty the
- 19:30Speaker 1: following month. Left He signed to Atlantic Outpost after her
- 19:34Speaker 1: earlier singles gained traction online. She built her following largely
- 19:38Speaker 1: through TikTok and Instagram covers of artists like Tyler Childers
- 19:42Speaker 1: and the band Perry, before pivoting to original material. She
- 19:46Speaker 1: has since performed at Stagecoach opened for Cameron Witcom on
- 19:49Speaker 1: his Fragile Egos tour and made her CMA Fest debut
- 19:53Speaker 1: earlier this month. Next I think we missed this one
- 19:57Speaker 1: last week, Kenny Chesney announces new albut Silver Sands Marina.
- 20:02Speaker 1: Kenny Chesney has announced Silver Sands Marina, his twenty first
- 20:06Speaker 1: studio album, due out September twenty fifth, via his newly
- 20:09Speaker 1: launched independent label, Hainow Records. Produced by Chesney and longtime
- 20:14Speaker 1: collaborator Buddy Cannon, the eleven track project marks his first
- 20:18Speaker 1: release on Hanow Records. The album features songs written by
- 20:22Speaker 1: Tony Lane, Mtrecia Berg, Shane mcinally, Brett James Jesse, Joe Dillon,
- 20:27Speaker 1: to Neil Towns, and Adam Wright, with guest appearances from
- 20:30Speaker 1: Colby Calay, Meola and Megan Morony. The album is spearheaded
- 20:35Speaker 1: by its title track, described in a press release as
- 20:37Speaker 1: silky mid tempo that matches the momentum of an unlikely
- 20:41Speaker 1: connection in an off season, off the beaten path place,
- 20:44Speaker 1: as an afternoon turns into a long night, an early
- 20:47Speaker 1: morning flight, and a memory that will last a lifetime.
- 20:50Speaker 1: It's such a well written song, Chesney said in a statement,
- 20:53Speaker 1: you can smell the fall in the air, the lake
- 20:55Speaker 1: and that solitude. Everyone's so busy rushing you miss out
- 20:58Speaker 1: on the small details and everything that happens around them.
- 21:02Speaker 1: These kind of moments you couldn't make happen.
- 21:04Speaker 2: That's the magic.
- 21:06Speaker 1: Silver Sands Marina follows the single carry On, which mark
- 21:09Speaker 1: Chesney's one hundredth entry on the Billboard Hot Country Songs Chart.
- 21:13Speaker 1: Chesney is currently in the middle of his second residency
- 21:16Speaker 1: at Sphere in Las Vegas. He is a twenty twenty
- 21:18Speaker 1: five Country Music Hall of Fame inductee, of Course, whose
- 21:21Speaker 1: exhibit opens next month. He will host a talk Shop
- 21:25Speaker 1: live session on July fifteenth to discuss the album, where
- 21:28Speaker 1: signed copies will also be available. Now we hike down
- 21:32Speaker 1: the road to people dot com Country with the first
- 21:35Speaker 1: article date of June twenty sixth. Bottoms Up. Kelsey Ballerini
- 21:39Speaker 1: and Marshmallow release summer banger Another Drink. Kelsey Ballerini and
- 21:45Speaker 1: Marshmallow just released a summer anthem for the girls. On Friday,
- 21:49Speaker 1: the country singer and the DJ released their first ever collaboration,
- 21:53Speaker 1: titled Another Drink. The song captures a carefree and newly
- 21:56Speaker 1: single summer night out. No she Don't care out your truck. Yeah, boy,
- 22:01Speaker 1: you're out of luck. No, she don't want a thing,
- 22:03Speaker 1: She just wants another drink. Ballerini sings in the chorus,
- 22:07Speaker 1: don't want to share a smoke, don't want to take
- 22:08Speaker 1: you home. No, she don't want to think, She just
- 22:11Speaker 1: wants another drink. In the second verse, Ballerini, who recently
- 22:15Speaker 1: split from Outer Bank star Chase Stokes, sings about feeling
- 22:19Speaker 1: empowered and seemingly sticking to her guns after a breakup.
- 22:23Speaker 1: No tears from a breakup because the makeup don't look
- 22:25Speaker 1: good running Miss calls got to block him better, lock
- 22:28Speaker 1: in and keep him coming. She sings, Here's to all
- 22:31Speaker 1: the goodbyes that turn into the good nights. Yeah, nice
- 22:34Speaker 1: guy with a nice try. Maybe next time, but not tonight.
- 22:37Speaker 1: In a press release, Marshmallow said he loved the challenge
- 22:40Speaker 1: of bringing my own approach to country production on this track.
- 22:44Speaker 1: I'm grateful to Kelsey for trusting my vision. She's an
- 22:47Speaker 1: incredible artist in person, and we're both proud of this
- 22:49Speaker 1: song and excited for everyone to hear it, he continued. Meanwhile,
- 22:53Speaker 1: the Baggage singer thirty two said she'd been a friend
- 22:56Speaker 1: and a fan of Marshmellow for years, We've always wanted
- 22:59Speaker 1: to find the right thing to work on together. She added,
- 23:03Speaker 1: this song came to life at the perfect time for
- 23:05Speaker 1: us to combine our worlds for a fun summertime jam.
- 23:08Speaker 1: I hope it makes everyone cheer and dance before another drink.
- 23:13Speaker 1: Vallerie released an EP titled Mount Pleasant in November. Earlier
- 23:17Speaker 1: this month, she opened up to people about her recent
- 23:19Speaker 1: move to New York City and how it's inspiring her music.
- 23:23Speaker 1: I've made five records and two EPs in Nashville, and
- 23:25Speaker 1: I think I'm in this place in my life where
- 23:28Speaker 1: I just wanted to see creatively, where changing my landscape
- 23:31Speaker 1: and my backdrop what that would bring out The first
- 23:33Speaker 1: Rodeo singer said, it's really proving to feel really inspired
- 23:37Speaker 1: and different in a good way. But it's to me
- 23:40Speaker 1: what my kind of country sounds like in a city.
- 23:43Speaker 1: Marshmallow most recent release was collaboration with Thomas htt titled
- 23:46Speaker 1: Where We Go. He also previously collaborated with Hudson Westbrook
- 23:50Speaker 1: on Better Than Me and Jelly.
- 23:52Speaker 2: Roll on Holy Water.
- 23:55Speaker 1: Next Rodney Crowell on Earth's Lost Album. Then again, after
- 23:58Speaker 1: nearly twenty years, Rodney Crowell may not have been looking
- 24:02Speaker 1: for a lost album at first, but he certainly found one,
- 24:06Speaker 1: and in releasing it, he is revisiting a fan favorite
- 24:08Speaker 1: era that has come to define his individual sonics to
- 24:12Speaker 1: legions of listeners worldwide. Rewind to the turn of the millennia.
- 24:17Speaker 1: From two thousand one to five, Crowell released a trilogy
- 24:20Speaker 1: of critically acclaimed albums, The Houston Kid, Fate's Right Hand,
- 24:24Speaker 1: and The Outsider. Those three projects were not only well
- 24:28Speaker 1: received by listeners, they cemented Crowell's role as a foundational
- 24:31Speaker 1: Americana artist. But what fans didn't know was that there
- 24:35Speaker 1: was another project recorded in two thousand and six that
- 24:38Speaker 1: expanded on that trilogy called Then Again. This is really
- 24:42Speaker 1: a fourth installment with that creative crew at Treasure Isle
- 24:45Speaker 1: Studio with Pete Coleman and Stuart Smith, Michael Rose, Gregg Moore,
- 24:49Speaker 1: Olibus Krowe tells people, however, an effort to depart from
- 24:52Speaker 1: the world building he did across his iconic trilogy led
- 24:55Speaker 1: to the album shelving. At the time, it was really
- 24:58Speaker 1: important for me at that particular a moment to put
- 25:00Speaker 1: this one aside because I needed to have a different experience,
- 25:03Speaker 1: she recalls. When I listened to it, then I just said, God,
- 25:07Speaker 1: I just hear some of my production techniques glaring at me.
- 25:10Speaker 2: It made me self conscious.
- 25:12Speaker 1: Since that moment, the celebrated singer songwriter had spent nearly
- 25:15Speaker 1: two decades continually moving Americana forward, releasing new music, earning acclaim,
- 25:20Speaker 1: and continuing to expand on his already prolific career. Then
- 25:25Speaker 1: one day, an old hard drive unexpectedly resurfaced in storage,
- 25:29Speaker 1: discovered by a part time assistant helping around Kraw's house.
- 25:32Speaker 1: She said, what is this Krall? Who's seventy four shares?
- 25:37Speaker 1: And we put it on. I listened to it, and
- 25:38Speaker 1: I went, oh, that's an album I made a long
- 25:40Speaker 1: time ago. Though he just released his album Airline Highway
- 25:44Speaker 1: less than a year ago, Kraw said the decision to
- 25:47Speaker 1: also put out Then again came quickly after he listened back.
- 25:50Speaker 1: It sounded good to me, he says, I found something
- 25:53Speaker 1: I really like.
- 25:54Speaker 2: Let's put it out.
- 25:55Speaker 1: Being away from it for so long and not hearing it.
- 25:57Speaker 1: When we put it on, I listened to it, I
- 25:59Speaker 1: could hear it, Kraw touts, I could hear that. It
- 26:01Speaker 1: sounded fresh to me. The production didn't sound dated, it
- 26:05Speaker 1: didn't sound like something I'd just done over and over again.
- 26:09Speaker 1: In uncovering this musical time capsule, Krow was able to
- 26:12Speaker 1: tap back into the musical community that he built around
- 26:14Speaker 1: himself during that era. Then Again features appearances from longtime
- 26:19Speaker 1: friends and collaborators, including Emmylou Harris, Lyle Lovett, benmont Tench,
- 26:24Speaker 1: and the late Guy Clark. When the creativity becomes sort
- 26:27Speaker 1: of one thing, a language develops that really is not
- 26:30Speaker 1: about words, Krawll explains, music just finds itself because we
- 26:34Speaker 1: were willing to let the music find itself. Among the
- 26:37Speaker 1: album's meaningful moments is Crow's final recorded collaboration with Clark,
- 26:41Speaker 1: an individual he proudly cites as one of his most
- 26:43Speaker 1: influential figures in his life from both a personal and
- 26:46Speaker 1: professional standpoint. Well, he was angry with me at that
- 26:50Speaker 1: particular time over some boneheaded thing that I did, Krow
- 26:53Speaker 1: remembers moments before his late friend's final session with him,
- 26:56Speaker 1: When Guy was pissed off at you, it was time
- 26:58Speaker 1: to grow up instead of letting tension drive them apart,
- 27:01Speaker 1: Krow extended in Olive Branch, I actually called Guy and
- 27:05Speaker 1: I said, Guy, I know you're angry with me, but listen,
- 27:07Speaker 1: come over here and put that anger to good use
- 27:10Speaker 1: because I need you, for you to help me tell
- 27:11Speaker 1: the story with this song. When Clark agreed, the two
- 27:15Speaker 1: crafted are you one of us? A reminder of the
- 27:17Speaker 1: sheer vocal power the two bring to the table the
- 27:20Speaker 1: gravity of his delivery. It gave my delivery more gravity,
- 27:24Speaker 1: kraw notes. Another stellar stand out on the record comes
- 27:27Speaker 1: by way of Krow's collaboration with Lovett and Chilly Wright
- 27:30Speaker 1: on what You're Gonna Do Now Number two, for which
- 27:33Speaker 1: people can exclusively premiere the accompanying music video with smooth
- 27:37Speaker 1: steel guitar backing and visuals that place the artist's scenes
- 27:40Speaker 1: ranging from a wide open prairie to the hustle and
- 27:42Speaker 1: bustle of New York City. The song and video perfectly
- 27:45Speaker 1: capture the spirit of a nation in a way that
- 27:47Speaker 1: only Krawell can to Crow. The totality of revisiting then
- 27:51Speaker 1: Again has prompted reflection not only on a forgotten album,
- 27:54Speaker 1: but on the creative life he has spent decades intently building.
- 27:58Speaker 1: I don't think I was destined for stardom, reflects, I
- 28:01Speaker 1: think I was destined for what to simply have a
- 28:03Speaker 1: long career. I want to remain as creative as I
- 28:06Speaker 1: can until I drop dead. What I am doing is
- 28:09Speaker 1: continuing to create at whatever level I can, striving for
- 28:12Speaker 1: the most of the energy and creativity I have right
- 28:15Speaker 1: up until it's over. For an artist who previously shelved
- 28:18Speaker 1: earlier works in an attempt to stave off repetition, it
- 28:21Speaker 1: marks a full circle moment of recognition of a particularly
- 28:24Speaker 1: potent time at Krowscraft. The creative music which will continue
- 28:28Speaker 1: to impact and transcend generations, then again, is out on
- 28:31Speaker 1: all major streaming platforms.
- 28:33Speaker 2: Now.
- 28:34Speaker 1: This concludes the reading of Country Weekly for this week.
