- 0:00Vox Liturgica: The propers of the day according to the Roman Missal before 1955. The fourteenth Sunday after Pentecost, August 30 in the year of our Lord Lord, 2026.
- 0:20The epistle and gospel of today teach us that we cannot at the same time serve two masters, namely the flesh and the spirit. The spirit or grace given to us by the Holy Ghost inclines us to supernatural and holy things. The flesh, or man with his bad and carnal instincts, makes us commit all manner of sins.
- 0:51Let us attend to our temporal interests without exaggerated preoccupation for such anxiety offends our Father in heaven. Commemorated today is Saint Rose of Lima. One hundred years after the discovery of the New World was born at Lima, the capital of Peru, the Virgin Rose, the first flower of sanctity which bloomed in South America. The name was given to her because one day the face of the child appeared marvelously transfigured and with all the beauty of a rose. She added to it the name of the blessed virgin wishing thenceforth to be called rose of Saint Mary.
- 1:44Watered with the divine dew of grace, she produced beautiful blooms of virginity and patience. When five years old she made the vow of perpetual virginity taking Jesus for her spouse. Later to avoid being obliged to Mary she cut off her beautiful hair. Having received the habit of a tertiary of the order of Saint Dominic she gave herself up to prayer and austere mortification. When she was 30 on 08/29/1617 her divine spouse came to fetch her and adorned with her radiant beauty she entered triumphant into the court of the heavenly king.
- 2:38Also commemorated today are Saints Felix and Adoptus. At Rome, says the Roman Martyrology, on the Austrian way, the martyrdom of the blessed priest Felix under the emperors Diocletian and Maximian. After being tortured on the rack and condemned to death, While he was led to the place of execution, he met a Christian who publicly confessed his faith and was beheaded with him. The faithful, ignorant of his name, called him Adoctus, which means added because he shared the triumph of Saint Felix about the year of our Lord 300. In the name of the father, and of the son, and of the holy ghost.
- 3:40Amen. The introit. God, ever our protector, do not disregard us now. Look upon him thou hast anointed. Willingly would I give a thousand of my days for one spent in thy courts.
- 4:03Lord of hosts, how I love thy dwelling place. For the courts of the Lord's house my soul faints with longing. Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Ghost as it was in the beginning is now and will be through all ages of ages. Amen. God ever our protector, do not disregard us now.
- 4:35Look upon him thou hast anointed. Willingly would I give a thousand of my days for one spent in thy courts. The Collect, let us pray. Favor thy church unceasingly, O Lord, we beseech thee, and keep her safe. And because apart from thee frail man is won't to fall, may she by thy help be ever withdrawn from harm and guided in good through our Lord Jesus Christ, thy Son, who liveth and reigneth with thee in the unity of the Holy Ghost, God through all ages of ages.
- 5:27Amen. A commemoration of Saint Rose of Lima. Oh, almighty God, the giver of all good gifts, who did its will that blessed Rose be do with thy heavenly graces should blossom forth in the Indies as a lovely flower of virginity and patience. Grant to us thy servants so to run-in the odor of her sweetness that we may be found worthy to become a sweet savor of Christ who liveth and reignest with God the Father in the unity of the Holy Ghost, God through all ages of ages. Amen.
- 6:16A commemoration of Saints Felix and Adaktus. We humbly entreat Thy majesty, O Lord, that Thou dost give us continual joy in the commemoration of Thy saints, so thou wouldst evermore defend us in view of their prayers through our Lord Jesus Christ, thy Son, who liveth and reigneth with thee in the unity of the Holy Ghost, God through all ages of ages. Amen. A lesson from the letter of Saint Paul the Apostle to the Galatians. Brethren, learn to live and move in the spirit.
- 7:05Then there is no danger of your giving way to the impulses of corrupt nature. The impulses of nature and the impulses of the spirit are at war with one another. Either is clean contrary to the other and that is why you cannot do all that your will approves. It is by letting the spirit lead you that you free yourselves from the yoke of the law. It is easy to see what effects proceed from corrupt nature.
- 7:41They are such things as adultery, impurity, incontinence, luxury, idolatry, witchcraft, feuds, quarrels, jealousies, outbursts of anger, rivalries, dissensions, factions, spite, murder, drunkenness, and debauchery. I warn you as I have warned you before that those who live in such a way will not inherit God's kingdom whereas the spirit yields a harvest of love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, generosity, forbearance, gentleness, faith, courtesy, temperateness, purity. No law can touch lives such as these. Those who belong to Christ have crucified nature with all its passions, all its impulses. The gradual.
- 9:07Better to trust the Lord than to rely on the help of man. Better to trust the Lord than to rely on the word of princes. Alleluia. Alleluia. Come friends, rejoice we in the Lord's honor.
- 9:29Cry we out for gladness to God, our deliverer. Alleluia. A continuation of the holy gospel according to Matthew. At that time Jesus said to his disciples, A man cannot be the slave of two masters at once. Either he will hate the one and love the other or he will devote himself to the one and despise the other.
- 10:04You must serve God or money. You cannot serve both. I say to you then do not fret over your life. How to support it with food and drink? Over your body, how to keep it clothed.
- 10:22Is not life itself a greater gift than food, the body than clothing? Behold the birds of the air. They never sow, reap, nor gather grain into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Have you not an excellence beyond theirs? Can any one of you, for all his anxiety, add a cubit's growth to his height?
- 10:52And why should you be anxious over clothing? Behold the lilies of the field, they toil not, neither do they spin. And yet I tell you that even Solomon in all his majesty was not arrayed as one of these. But if God so clothed the grass of the field which today is and tomorrow is cast into the oven, will he not much more clothe you, O ye of little faith? Therefore be not anxious saying, What shall we eat?
- 11:34Or What shall we drink? Or Wherewithal shall we be clothed? For even the heathen seek these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you have need of them. But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness, and all these things shall be yours without the asking. The offertory.
- 12:02The angel of the Lord encamps around those who fear him and delivers them. Taste and see how good the Lord is. The secret. Grant us, we beseech thee, O Lord, that through this saving victim our sins may be cleansed in Thy might appeased. A commemoration of St.
- 12:31Rose of Lima. May this sacrifice of thy dedicated people be accepted by thee, oh Lord, in honor of thy saints to whose merits we attribute the help afforded us in tribulation. A commemoration of Saints Felix and Adaktus. Have regard, O Lord, to the offering of thy people. And while they celebrate this sacrifice in honor of thy Saints, may they know that it avails to their own salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ, thy Son, who liveth and reigneth with thee in the unity of the Holy Ghost, God through all ages of ages.
- 13:21Amen. The preface of the Most Holy Trinity. Just it is and fitting right in for our salvation, that we should at all times and in all places give thanks unto thee, O Holy Lord, Father Almighty, everlasting God, who together with thine only begotten son and the Holy Ghost art one God, one Lord, not in the oneness of a single person, but in the trinity of one substance. For what we believe by thy revelation of thy glory, the same do we believe of thy son, the same of the Holy Ghost without difference or separation. So that in confessing the true and eternal Godhead distinction in persons, unity in essence, and equality in majesty may be adored.
- 14:23In praise of which the angels and archangels, the cherubim also and Seraphim day by day exalt without end with one voice saying, holy, holy, holy, Lord God of hosts, the heavens and the earth are full of thy glory. Hosanna in the highest. Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord. Hosanna in the highest. The communion.
- 15:05Seek first the kingdom of God and all things shall be given you besides says the Lord. The post communion. Let us pray. May thy sacraments, O God, ever cleanse and defend us and lead us to the attainment of eternal salvation. A commemoration of Saint Rose of Lima.
- 15:37Thou hast filled thy household, O Lord, with holy gifts. Do thou cherish us always through the intercession of her whose festival we are keeping. A commemoration of Saints Felix and Adoptus. We who are filled with your holy gifts beseech thee, O Lord, that by the intercession of thy saints we may ever continue in thanksgiving for them through our Lord Jesus Christ, thy Son, who liveth and reigneth with thee in the unity of the Holy Ghost, God through all ages of ages. Amen.
- 16:24In the name of the Father, and of the son, and of the holy ghost. Amen. Thanks be to God. Saint Rose of Lima, pray for us. Saint Felix, pray for us.
- 16:46Saint Adoptus, pray for us.
