- 0:01Speaker 1: You're listening to Hawk Talk with former Seahawks wide receiver
- 0:05Speaker 1: Michael Bumpus at the ten yard lives second to eight
- 0:08Speaker 1: free wide receivers. Now in motion is Bumpas left to right,
- 0:12Speaker 1: Julius Jones, a single setback Matt Pumpecks looking at the
- 0:14Speaker 1: goal line. He throws it into the end zone. Touchdown.
- 0:17Speaker 1: Say Hawks, it's Michael Bumpas with a diving catching the
- 0:21Speaker 1: end zone our ten yard touchdown reception for Puppus and
- 0:25Speaker 1: the kid out of Washington State has found himself a
- 0:29Speaker 1: place on this team powered by Seahawks dot Com. What's Up, twelves,
- 0:34Speaker 1: This is Hawk Talk Preview edition, Week fifteam. The Hawks
- 0:38Speaker 1: travel east to take on the Washington football team. But
- 0:41Speaker 1: let's check in with Nasa Choby with these injury updates.
- 0:44Speaker 1: Nexs pump. Well, it was definitely a mixed bag when
- 0:46Speaker 1: it comes to the injuries for the Seahawks at this
- 0:48Speaker 1: point in the week. So I'll start with the bad
- 0:51Speaker 1: side of things. Head coach Pete Carroll gave a not
- 0:53Speaker 1: so promising update on the status of second round pick
- 0:55Speaker 1: Darryl Taylor. We're really running out of time, you know.
- 0:58Speaker 1: Next week is really the last shot us to get
- 1:00Speaker 1: get a chance, and uh, you know he'll have to
- 1:03Speaker 1: jump out then and the treatment that he went through
- 1:07Speaker 1: does kind of culminate this week. We'll see how that
- 1:08Speaker 1: what that means. I don't mean to give you any
- 1:10Speaker 1: any hope at this point other than we just gotta
- 1:12Speaker 1: wait and see. But it's not too late, you know,
- 1:15Speaker 1: We're fortunately we might have some some more games to
- 1:17Speaker 1: play and if we're fortunate enough, and we'd love to
- 1:19Speaker 1: have him available starting right tackle. Brandon Shell, who worked
- 1:22Speaker 1: really hard to be available against the Jets last week,
- 1:24Speaker 1: tweaked his ankle once again and his status is most
- 1:27Speaker 1: likely not going to be known until game time. What
- 1:29Speaker 1: is Brandon Shell's the status? You're hoping he'll be able
- 1:32Speaker 1: to practice him play this week? I know you said
- 1:33Speaker 1: that on Monday, but yes, yes, that's really that's where
- 1:36Speaker 1: we are right now. And but like you know, these
- 1:37Speaker 1: are those I always kind of say the same thing.
- 1:39Speaker 1: We'll have to wait till the end of the week
- 1:41Speaker 1: to see how he develops. I can't call it now.
- 1:44Speaker 1: We won't practice him today, and I'll end on a
- 1:46Speaker 1: positive note. Tight end Greg Olsen, who's injured on that
- 1:49Speaker 1: Thursday night game back into November against the Cardinals is
- 1:51Speaker 1: way ahead of schedule. He's made an extraordinary recovery to
- 1:55Speaker 1: get to this right now. So we're gonna pass him
- 1:56Speaker 1: during a week and see what happens. See how he does.
- 1:58Speaker 1: Do you think it's possibility actually play this week? It's possible. Also,
- 2:02Speaker 1: don't forget to join us for the Huddle each and
- 2:04Speaker 1: every Thursday from noon to two, hosted by Jake and
- 2:07Speaker 1: Stacy along the Seahawks color analyst Dave Wyman. If you're
- 2:10Speaker 1: a chance to hear directly from Seahawks players as they
- 2:12Speaker 1: prepare you for Sunday in preview the game ahead with
- 2:14Speaker 1: the voice of the Seahawks Steve Rabel and our guy
- 2:17Speaker 1: Ray Roberts. All right, Bump, you know what time it is.
- 2:19Speaker 1: Who's next? Who's next? Who's next? Who's next? The Washington
- 2:27Speaker 1: football team is next. They are six and seven, first
- 2:30Speaker 1: place in the NFC eas you look at that record,
- 2:32Speaker 1: you say six and seven NFC East, nothing crazy. The
- 2:36Speaker 1: NFCAS has been the most successful division the last three
- 2:39Speaker 1: weeks in the NFL. So you cannot sleep on the division.
- 2:42Speaker 1: You can't sleep on these guys. Coming off four straight wins.
- 2:46Speaker 1: We played an NFC East team before coming off three
- 2:49Speaker 1: and four straight wins, and we see how that win
- 2:52Speaker 1: notable wins Steelers. They beat the Steelers, they beat the
- 2:56Speaker 1: forty nine Ers. They've beating the Cowboys twice, beating Cincinnati
- 2:59Speaker 1: and Billing. At one point of the season, nast they
- 3:02Speaker 1: lost five in a row, but this team has found
- 3:04Speaker 1: a way to bounce back even with all the quarterback
- 3:06Speaker 1: issues they have going on. Is it Kyle Allen is
- 3:09Speaker 1: a Dwayne Haskins? Is it Alex Smith? It's been Alex
- 3:12Speaker 1: Smith as a lay and he's been getting it done.
- 3:15Speaker 1: Last week these guys meet the forty nine is twenty
- 3:17Speaker 1: three to fifteen, extending their win streak to four games.
- 3:21Speaker 1: This team is dangerous right now. You cannot sleep on
- 3:23Speaker 1: the Washington football team, no question about it. And you
- 3:26Speaker 1: you mentioned it the last time. I don't think the
- 3:28Speaker 1: entire Seahawks team did this, but the last time most
- 3:31Speaker 1: people were like, hey, that's another NFC East team. They're
- 3:34Speaker 1: in first place, but who cares they have a losing record.
- 3:37Speaker 1: The Giants came into Looman Field and got the job done.
- 3:39Speaker 1: So knowing on in this organization can be taking these
- 3:42Speaker 1: guys lightly. Like you said, they've won four in a row.
- 3:44Speaker 1: And the thing about them, we'll get into it a
- 3:46Speaker 1: lot later, is their defense is a problem. And those
- 3:51Speaker 1: kind of leading the main storylines from that game against
- 3:53Speaker 1: the forty nine ers. First, you mentioned Alex Smith, So
- 3:55Speaker 1: he strained his calf, and that's the same leg that
- 3:58Speaker 1: he injured in twenty eighteen. You know famously how scary
- 4:01Speaker 1: that was. He almost died from it, came back. His
- 4:04Speaker 1: story's incredible, but he was pulled from the game from
- 4:07Speaker 1: muscle tightness cut. Coach Ron Rivera said it was out
- 4:10Speaker 1: of abundance of caution and he could have returned to
- 4:13Speaker 1: the game an emergency situation if need be. In that game,
- 4:16Speaker 1: he played okay, I mean he had fifty played fifty
- 4:18Speaker 1: percent of snaps when eight of nineteen for fifty seven
- 4:20Speaker 1: yards in a pick, probably his worst stat line since
- 4:23Speaker 1: he came back to the starting role. Former first round
- 4:26Speaker 1: pick Dwayne Haskins played the rest of the game. He
- 4:28Speaker 1: went seven to twelve or fifty two yards, no touchdowns,
- 4:31Speaker 1: no interceptions. So offensively they're not great, they got something,
- 4:35Speaker 1: they're okay, yeah, but bump this defense, man. This defense
- 4:38Speaker 1: is no joke. Defense is no joke. It starts with
- 4:41Speaker 1: that defensive line highlighted by Chase young and Monte swept.
- 4:45Speaker 1: Chase young Man last game six tackles, two tackles for lost,
- 4:48Speaker 1: one sack, two passes offended, one forced fumble, and the
- 4:51Speaker 1: fumble returned for forty seven yard touched him. He checked
- 4:55Speaker 1: almost every box. He might have checked every box in
- 4:58Speaker 1: the defensive stats. She this guy is the truth. He
- 5:01Speaker 1: I didn't realize how bigger he was. I looked him
- 5:03Speaker 1: up due to six to five, two hundred and fifty
- 5:06Speaker 1: pounds flying off the edge, really strong with his hands,
- 5:10Speaker 1: and he's a great athlete. You gotta watch after this, dude.
- 5:14Speaker 1: We're gonna get into the matchups a little bit later, okay,
- 5:16Speaker 1: But the forty nine ers they played against the forty
- 5:18Speaker 1: nine ers, Nick Mullins played, okay, twenty five to forty five,
- 5:21Speaker 1: two to sixty yards, one touchdown, one interception. I want
- 5:24Speaker 1: to show Nick Mullins a little bit of love, man,
- 5:27Speaker 1: because he might not be winning a bunch of ball games,
- 5:29Speaker 1: but for some reason, that forty nine ers offense runs
- 5:32Speaker 1: a bit smoother with him than it does with Jimmy.
- 5:35Speaker 1: At least that's the way it looks. I don't know
- 5:36Speaker 1: if the numbers look like but gotta show Nick Bollins
- 5:39Speaker 1: some love. But when you got that defensive line that
- 5:41Speaker 1: the Washington football team has, they're gonna make it tough
- 5:44Speaker 1: on anybody. Now. A bright spot for the forty nine
- 5:47Speaker 1: ers was Brandon Iu. The kid out of Arizona State
- 5:49Speaker 1: had ten receptions for one hundred and nineteen yards. Let's
- 5:53Speaker 1: look at this head to head matchup Nass Offensively, Hawks
- 5:57Speaker 1: got him. Hawks are six overall their thirty year rush
- 5:59Speaker 1: off and Hawks eleven third twenty four for twenty four
- 6:02Speaker 1: sorry pass offense, Hawks are seventh. They are twenty six
- 6:06Speaker 1: points per game. The Hawks are putting up thirty point
- 6:08Speaker 1: two that's third in the league, and the Washington football
- 6:10Speaker 1: team are put up twenty two point one that is
- 6:12Speaker 1: twenty fourth in the league. But less highlighted this defense,
- 6:15Speaker 1: this defense, it's a completely different story. And honestly, the
- 6:18Speaker 1: washingtontball team has one of the best defense is in
- 6:20Speaker 1: the National football no question about it. Total defense. There
- 6:23Speaker 1: number four, rush defense, they're number nine. Pass defense. There
- 6:27Speaker 1: number three in points per game. When we're given a
- 6:29Speaker 1: twenty one points game, that rings sixth. And the Seahawks
- 6:33Speaker 1: defense has improved greatly. The numbers don't really show it.
- 6:37Speaker 1: They're still thirty second in past defense. They're twenty seventh
- 6:41Speaker 1: in total defense, but that's up from thirty two. And
- 6:44Speaker 1: if you look at the last ten since week ten,
- 6:47Speaker 1: they're top ten defense. But just to give you some
- 6:50Speaker 1: for comparison's sake, how good Washington football teams defense has been.
- 6:54Speaker 1: They've allowed a thousand yards less than the Seahawks app
- 6:58Speaker 1: in totality this year a G ball, So I mean
- 7:02Speaker 1: they're doing a goodness gracious, they are doing it. Yeah,
- 7:06Speaker 1: this defense is ridiculous. You look on film. They got
- 7:09Speaker 1: guys everywhere the defense. The D line is the highlight,
- 7:11Speaker 1: but they got guys on every level who can make
- 7:14Speaker 1: a play. Now, let's dig in to the archives. The encyclopedias.
- 7:18Speaker 1: You don't know about none about that? What about no
- 7:20Speaker 1: your history? Now took us up? No your history. I
- 7:25Speaker 1: know a little bit about some encyclopedias. Now, Encyclopedia Britannica.
- 7:28Speaker 1: Going to the library. Check that thing out. Oh my goodness,
- 7:32Speaker 1: what a world we used to live in. All right?
- 7:34Speaker 1: Know your history series record? Washington leads the all time
- 7:37Speaker 1: series twelve to eight. They're twelve and five against the
- 7:40Speaker 1: Seahawks in the regular season, but they're owing three against
- 7:43Speaker 1: the Hawks in the playoffs, most notably when the Seahawks
- 7:46Speaker 1: came from behind win in the wild card playoffs during
- 7:48Speaker 1: the twenty twelve season, Russell's rookie year Seahawks a race
- 7:51Speaker 1: of fourteen oh lead, scoring twenty four and answered points,
- 7:54Speaker 1: given Russell Wilson his first playoff win and the Seahawks
- 7:57Speaker 1: first road playoff wins since the eighty So that broke
- 8:01Speaker 1: a huge streak. As you remember, that was back when
- 8:03Speaker 1: RG three was still really good quarterback. He heard his
- 8:05Speaker 1: name never really been the same and that was the
- 8:07Speaker 1: beginning of this run that the Seahawks had been on
- 8:09Speaker 1: for most of the last decade. Last meeting twenty seventeen,
- 8:14Speaker 1: Washington football team came to Century Linkfield at the time
- 8:17Speaker 1: now Loomanfield, beat the Seahawks seventeen to fourteen. Seahawks took
- 8:21Speaker 1: the lead with one minute, thirty four seconds to go
- 8:23Speaker 1: in the game with a thirty yard touchdown pass on
- 8:26Speaker 1: Doug Baldwin and he absolutely cooked Josh Norman to get
- 8:29Speaker 1: open for that. However, it wasn't enough, and Kirk Cousins
- 8:35Speaker 1: I said it. Kirk Cousins led Washington down the field
- 8:38Speaker 1: with two deep passes for the go ahead score for
- 8:41Speaker 1: a shocking upset in Seattle. I remember that game pretty
- 8:44Speaker 1: clearly because at that time it's in the Seahawks for
- 8:46Speaker 1: five and two, and that's when things really started to
- 8:49Speaker 1: spial for that team. Guys started getting hurt. And that
- 8:52Speaker 1: was the only time the Seahawks have not made the
- 8:54Speaker 1: playoffs under Russell Wilson. So hopefully we never get to
- 8:58Speaker 1: see that again. And it's different this time around as
- 9:01Speaker 1: we go to Washington East to play the Washington football team.
- 9:05Speaker 1: It's so weird saying that bumping. I'm working really hard
- 9:08Speaker 1: to keep saying Washington Football Team. I'm just trying to
- 9:10Speaker 1: drive it into existence. I'm forcing it. I gotta I
- 9:14Speaker 1: talk really slowly when I saved their name, because I
- 9:17Speaker 1: don't want to get fine no finees coming over here.
- 9:19Speaker 1: What's the word in the West? And the Seahawks are
- 9:26Speaker 1: the NFC West champs again? What's the word in the West?
- 9:31Speaker 1: On hot talk? What's the word? I shall tell you
- 9:35Speaker 1: what the word is. The Rams are nine and four,
- 9:37Speaker 1: Hawks are nine and four, Cardinals are seven to six,
- 9:39Speaker 1: and the nine Is are five and eight. Now, the
- 9:42Speaker 1: Hawks didn't make up any grounds in the standings in
- 9:44Speaker 1: Week thirteen, but they did keep pace with the Rams.
- 9:47Speaker 1: Rams won their game. They're nine and four, sol did
- 9:49Speaker 1: the Seahawks. Right now, they are the fifth seed in
- 9:52Speaker 1: the playoffs. If they were to play to day, they
- 9:54Speaker 1: will play the Washington football team. Now this game, when
- 9:58Speaker 1: you think about this game, nast playing against the Washington
- 10:01Speaker 1: football team, It'll be nice to get a win. You
- 10:04Speaker 1: want to get a win, but it will not determine
- 10:07Speaker 1: if the Hawks win the NFC West. But that doesn't
- 10:10Speaker 1: mean you don't want to get this w You want
- 10:12Speaker 1: to go back East and play well against a football
- 10:14Speaker 1: team who has one of the best defenses in the league.
- 10:17Speaker 1: This is gonna be a nice Lott test for the
- 10:19Speaker 1: Seahawks to see have they really corrected things on offense,
- 10:22Speaker 1: No question about it. This is like a mitch right
- 10:26Speaker 1: before your final exam. Essentially, because you got the Rams,
- 10:28Speaker 1: that's going to decide the NFC West in where the
- 10:31Speaker 1: Seahawks are ultimately seated. But like you said, it doesn't
- 10:34Speaker 1: have an impact this weekending. It's a football tea Washington
- 10:37Speaker 1: football team. But it's gonna be good to kind of
- 10:39Speaker 1: give us a measuring stick on our offense to kind
- 10:40Speaker 1: of see where we're at now. The Seahawks still do
- 10:43Speaker 1: have an outside shot that's the number one seed in
- 10:45Speaker 1: the playoffs. However, that's going to require some help. They'd
- 10:48Speaker 1: have to win out and hope the Saints and Packers
- 10:50Speaker 1: not only lose a game, but they need to lose
- 10:51Speaker 1: a game against NFC opponents, so the Seahaws and climb
- 10:54Speaker 1: back and the tiebreaker. Unfortunately, that loss to the Giants
- 10:58Speaker 1: really hurt the Seahawks because it's another division or conference loss.
- 11:02Speaker 1: So that's still on the table. We'll kind of wait
- 11:05Speaker 1: and see how things play out. Obviously, number one seed
- 11:07Speaker 1: would be great, but Seahats just got to take care
- 11:09Speaker 1: of who's on their schedule first. Speaking of we'll talk
- 11:12Speaker 1: about the Rams. The Rams beat the Patriots last week
- 11:16Speaker 1: on Thursday Night Football twenty four to three, and man, bum,
- 11:19Speaker 1: we saw some history. Man. The Rams officially ended the
- 11:22Speaker 1: most successful run we've seen an NFL team have. The
- 11:24Speaker 1: Patriots will not win the AFC East for the first
- 11:27Speaker 1: time since two thousand and seven when Tom Brady towards
- 11:30Speaker 1: ACL missed that whole year. Thirteen years has been these
- 11:34Speaker 1: dudes has hang up banners they get. The Patriots used
- 11:36Speaker 1: to get the banners pre made before the seat and
- 11:38Speaker 1: starts say look this hold on it is, we'll hang
- 11:40Speaker 1: it up later. It's nice to see some change. It's
- 11:44Speaker 1: nice to see. I'm glad the Bills are doing their
- 11:46Speaker 1: thing out. I'm upset that they beat them, the Seahawks,
- 11:49Speaker 1: but it's nicely the Bills doing their theme, the Mammy
- 11:51Speaker 1: Dolphins doing their thing. We all know about those Jets.
- 11:54Speaker 1: They're not doing anything at all in that division. But
- 11:57Speaker 1: you mentioned two thousand and seven when when Tom Brady
- 11:59Speaker 1: towards acl That's why you can't tackle quarterbacks a low anymore,
- 12:03Speaker 1: because old Tommy boy got tackle all. I believe it
- 12:05Speaker 1: was against the Cincinnati Bengals, and he tore his stuff. Now,
- 12:09Speaker 1: Jared Golf was pretty average as usual. I feel like
- 12:12Speaker 1: we say this every week once or twice a year.
- 12:14Speaker 1: He might have a game where he blows stuff up,
- 12:17Speaker 1: but pretty average. Sixteen to twenty five, one hundred thirty
- 12:19Speaker 1: seven yards, one touchdown, one interception. But man, the Rams
- 12:23Speaker 1: might have found they're running back. Acres went Cam is
- 12:27Speaker 1: a kid out of Florida State. One hundred and seventy
- 12:29Speaker 1: one yards on twenty nine carries almost six yards per carry.
- 12:33Speaker 1: They got something going in that backfield. Oh yeah, Acres
- 12:35Speaker 1: are scary. Man, They're kind of even running back by committee.
- 12:38Speaker 1: That about three guys going, Henderson and the other kid.
- 12:40Speaker 1: But Acres has jumped out in front and showing you
- 12:42Speaker 1: exactly who he is. And man, oh he's gonna be
- 12:45Speaker 1: a problem. And he knew else is a problem. Aaron
- 12:47Speaker 1: Donald Man and that Rams defense man Loud just three points,
- 12:51Speaker 1: had to pick six at six sacks week sixteen. The
- 12:55Speaker 1: Seahawks not only are gonna have to work cut out
- 12:56Speaker 1: for him, just because the Rams, no matter who is coaching,
- 13:00Speaker 1: who was on the roster, plays the Seahawk team very tough,
- 13:02Speaker 1: and we saw what happened the first time they played.
- 13:04Speaker 1: It's gonna be a huge game. Everything's gonna be on
- 13:06Speaker 1: the line. It's essentially gonna decide the NFC West. So
- 13:09Speaker 1: definitely can't wait for that matchup because the Rams are
- 13:11Speaker 1: gonna come to play, and they are also a top
- 13:14Speaker 1: three defense, so it's gonna be tough. It's gonna be tough.
- 13:17Speaker 1: All right, Let's talk about the Cardinals. Man, they played
- 13:19Speaker 1: the Giants. I was hoping that Giants just made me
- 13:21Speaker 1: a believer and went out and played well against the Cardinals.
- 13:24Speaker 1: And I can tell people, see the Giants are legit. Nah.
- 13:27Speaker 1: They hadn't any Giants back and nothing happened. They scored
- 13:30Speaker 1: seven points. It was twenty six to seven. The Cardinals
- 13:33Speaker 1: got it done and they needed to win that game.
- 13:35Speaker 1: They're holding on to that number seven seed, and it
- 13:39Speaker 1: was a bit disappointing. I mean, I always like to
- 13:41Speaker 1: see a young man ball out. Colin Murray did okay,
- 13:44Speaker 1: twenty four, thirty five, twenty forty four yards, but I
- 13:46Speaker 1: just wanted them so bad to lose to the Giants,
- 13:50Speaker 1: So I can subjest find I'm still justifying the loss
- 13:53Speaker 1: of the Giants today, nast Like we're two weeks removing,
- 13:55Speaker 1: people are still asking me about this. I'm tired of
- 13:57Speaker 1: talking about it, Loki. The Cardinals let me down, or
- 14:00Speaker 1: excuse me. The Giants led me down last week, no
- 14:02Speaker 1: question about it. And here's the thing, too, man like.
- 14:04Speaker 1: The Cardinals actually kind of tried to give that game away.
- 14:06Speaker 1: They were they weren't playing well. They got short field
- 14:09Speaker 1: if they're short, fiel if their short field. They kept
- 14:11Speaker 1: kicking field goals. But they had one drive of more
- 14:14Speaker 1: than thirty four yards one drive all they had literally
- 14:17Speaker 1: had one drive all game. Everything else is set up
- 14:19Speaker 1: short field thirty four yards. So it sucks, But we're
- 14:24Speaker 1: not really worried about the Cardinals. Cardinals below us. We
- 14:26Speaker 1: beat them, they can't really do much help to us now,
- 14:31Speaker 1: But I should hold my tongue on that because week
- 14:34Speaker 1: seventeen they do play the Rams. So if for some
- 14:36Speaker 1: reason the Seahawks don't take care of business, we will
- 14:38Speaker 1: definitely be big Cardinals fans in week seventeen. But until then,
- 14:42Speaker 1: not worried about them. Not worried about them. All right, man,
- 14:45Speaker 1: let's get into these matchups. Let's man ups. Is this
- 14:50Speaker 1: miss this man up on Hawk Talk? All right? First
- 14:59Speaker 1: match up Washington football team's quarterback, so Alex Smith or
- 15:04Speaker 1: Dwayne Haskins versus Seahawks defense. Now we kind of alluded
- 15:08Speaker 1: to it earlier. There's been a lot of movement in
- 15:09Speaker 1: the quarterback room for Washington. Haskins has opened the year
- 15:13Speaker 1: as a starter. You remember, he was a top overall pick,
- 15:16Speaker 1: not the number one overall pick, but a top draft
- 15:17Speaker 1: pick a couple of years ago. Open the year as
- 15:19Speaker 1: a starter, and he started the first the team's first
- 15:22Speaker 1: four games. Kyle Allen replaced him in Week five because
- 15:25Speaker 1: of his poor play. He started the next four games,
- 15:28Speaker 1: then he broke his ankle. Then Alex Smith got the
- 15:30Speaker 1: start against the Lions in Week ten and has led
- 15:32Speaker 1: them to a four and run record since man. Alex Smith,
- 15:35Speaker 1: that story is one of the best things I've seen
- 15:37Speaker 1: in my life when it comes to overcoming adversity coming
- 15:40Speaker 1: back from a devastating injury. I mean, they're talking about
- 15:43Speaker 1: his injury was so bad, they're comparing it to what
- 15:45Speaker 1: happens when guys come back from war. So that's all
- 15:48Speaker 1: you need to know about the toughness of that dude.
- 15:50Speaker 1: Definitely gonna be a shooing for Comeback Player of the Year.
- 15:52Speaker 1: Lucky to be alive, let alone playing starting in the
- 15:54Speaker 1: National Football League. His status is uncertain for Sunday, dealing
- 15:58Speaker 1: with that cap strain, so probably gonna way up until
- 16:01Speaker 1: game time at least's see if he can make the start.
- 16:03Speaker 1: If Alex Smith doesn't make the start, Dwayne Haskins will
- 16:06Speaker 1: step back into that role, and it's been a roller
- 16:08Speaker 1: coaster ride for him. He goes from the starting quarterback
- 16:10Speaker 1: to thirteen quarterback, potentially back in the lineup. So it's
- 16:13Speaker 1: been a carouself quarterbacks and both of them are solid pump.
- 16:18Speaker 1: But their offense doesn't do anything that scares me. No,
- 16:23Speaker 1: they don't man big us to Alex Smith mental toughness,
- 16:26Speaker 1: I would have tapped out and say I'm done. I
- 16:28Speaker 1: made it enough money. I'm just gonna chill my faan.
- 16:30Speaker 1: He wants to get back in the game. He's lat them,
- 16:31Speaker 1: like he said, to a four one record since he's
- 16:34Speaker 1: been playing. But this offense, they still ranked thirtieth overall.
- 16:38Speaker 1: There's still twenty fourth when it comes around the ball.
- 16:40Speaker 1: There's still twenty six when it comes to throwing the rock.
- 16:42Speaker 1: They're still twenty fourth when it comes up putting up points.
- 16:44Speaker 1: So they are or they are a great story with
- 16:46Speaker 1: Alex Smith. If he plays, we'll see what he does.
- 16:49Speaker 1: If Dwayne Haskins plays, then I'll just expect two or
- 16:52Speaker 1: three turnovers off top quarterback situation ain't right over there.
- 16:55Speaker 1: Alex Smith will get comeback player of the Year. Great story.
- 16:58Speaker 1: They will rely heavily on their defense. Next match of
- 17:01Speaker 1: Russell Wilson versus Washington defense, Russell Stone for thirty six
- 17:05Speaker 1: touchdowns twelve in exceptions, carried the rock sixty nine times
- 17:07Speaker 1: for four into twenty three yards one touchdown. He broke
- 17:10Speaker 1: his own franchise record for passing touchdowns this season, where
- 17:13Speaker 1: thirty six, and still has three games to go. He's
- 17:16Speaker 1: the only QB in NFL history with a winning record
- 17:19Speaker 1: in each of his first nine season. Needs four more
- 17:23Speaker 1: touchdowns to pass Damn Mariam for second place for the
- 17:26Speaker 1: most passing touchdowns in his first nine years. Were two
- 17:29Speaker 1: hundred and sixty seven. Stats on stats on stats, Records
- 17:34Speaker 1: on records on records. That's what Russell Wilson does. And
- 17:36Speaker 1: this week is gonna be tough, and ain't gonna be
- 17:39Speaker 1: an easy four touchdowns. Everybody's gonna get involved. Shotty and
- 17:42Speaker 1: Russ gotta be on the same page this week because
- 17:45Speaker 1: everyone talks about this Washington football d line, but they
- 17:48Speaker 1: got some guys in the secondary who can get it done.
- 17:51Speaker 1: Yeah you mentioned. I mean they're third and pass defense
- 17:53Speaker 1: allowing just two hundred and six yards a game, and
- 17:55Speaker 1: like I mentioned earlier, they've allowed a thousand, yes yards,
- 17:58Speaker 1: thousand less yards in the Seahawks defense. It's gonna be hard,
- 18:01Speaker 1: it's gonna be incredibly challenging, and the thing is is.
- 18:03Speaker 1: I'm really interested to see how they play us. Their
- 18:06Speaker 1: D line gets after the quarterback right, so I wonder
- 18:09Speaker 1: if if they're gonna be really aggressive in the second day,
- 18:11Speaker 1: if they feel like Russell's gonna be getting the ball
- 18:13Speaker 1: out quick. Are they gonna be playing press man stuff.
- 18:15Speaker 1: Are they gonna be playing some cover? So it'd be
- 18:17Speaker 1: really interesting to see what they drop against US. But Russell, Wilson,
- 18:19Speaker 1: and Shotty are definitely gonna have to have their best
- 18:22Speaker 1: offensive game plan they've had in a long time because
- 18:24Speaker 1: they will be tested heavily on Sunday. They will be
- 18:28Speaker 1: tested by this Washington defensive line verse the Seahawks offensive line.
- 18:32Speaker 1: This defense is great because the men with their hand
- 18:35Speaker 1: and the dirt is Chase Young, as Monte Sweat, as
- 18:38Speaker 1: Jonathan Allen. It's pain. They might be the most talented
- 18:42Speaker 1: D line in the NFL, and they got a bunch
- 18:44Speaker 1: of first round picks, so that means they've been really
- 18:47Speaker 1: bad for a while and now they're starting to read
- 18:49Speaker 1: the benefits. Kind of reminds me of the forty nine ers.
- 18:51Speaker 1: They're drafted, all those defensive linemen in the years where
- 18:54Speaker 1: they were down. It all starts with a big man
- 18:56Speaker 1: off front and Chase young Man as good as advertise.
- 18:59Speaker 1: Thirty five tech, five and a half sex, nine tackles
- 19:01Speaker 1: for lass, three passes defended, three forced fumbles, one fumble recovery,
- 19:06Speaker 1: one touchdown. I mean, the kid is doing it all
- 19:08Speaker 1: in his very first year. These paratable montests sweat thirty
- 19:11Speaker 1: seven tackles, seven tacks, twelve for loss, five passes defended,
- 19:14Speaker 1: one intercession, two force fumble. He got a touchdown too.
- 19:17Speaker 1: You got defensive lineman score touching him. That defense last
- 19:20Speaker 1: week scored two touchdowns against the forty nine ers and
- 19:23Speaker 1: took some pressure off of that offense. I don't expect
- 19:26Speaker 1: them to score touchdowns this week, but there are some
- 19:28Speaker 1: other guys who can contribute as well. Look, I mean,
- 19:31Speaker 1: it just doesn't stop Jonathan now and forty eight tackles,
- 19:33Speaker 1: two sacks, three tackles for lost, one force fumble, paying
- 19:36Speaker 1: forty seven tackles, two sacks, seven tackles for loss, three
- 19:39Speaker 1: pass defended, three force fumbles, one fumble recovery. I'm looking
- 19:42Speaker 1: at these numbers and I'm like, am I looking at linebackers? Honestly,
- 19:46Speaker 1: that's the first thing that jumped out. I'm like, Yeah,
- 19:48Speaker 1: these dudes all have over thirty five tackles. They're active,
- 19:51Speaker 1: they're getting sacks. Look at these TFLs twelve seven, three,
- 19:55Speaker 1: nine and a half. They're getting their hands up, defending passes,
- 19:58Speaker 1: getting picks, forcing fumble. I mean statistically, I mean, this
- 20:01Speaker 1: just jumps off the page. They are they have to
- 20:04Speaker 1: be the statistically the best defensive line in the NFL.
- 20:07Speaker 1: And it looks that way on film. We see the numbers.
- 20:09Speaker 1: The paper says, Okay, these guys are good. You watched
- 20:12Speaker 1: him on film and you look at what some offensive lines.
- 20:14Speaker 1: Oh my god, they're They'll they'll get you with everything.
- 20:17Speaker 1: They'll get you with a power rush, They'll get you
- 20:18Speaker 1: with some nice moves and spins. And then Chase young Man,
- 20:22Speaker 1: he did his old boy at Joe Burrow rough when
- 20:25Speaker 1: they played before Joe Burrow got hurt. Used to be
- 20:27Speaker 1: former teammates at Ohio State. I mean, his quickness off
- 20:31Speaker 1: the edge just jumps off the sheet. So it's gonna
- 20:33Speaker 1: be really it's gonna be tough for our offensive line.
- 20:35Speaker 1: And I think we got to really pay attention to
- 20:38Speaker 1: throughout this week. Is is right tackle Brandon Shells kind
- 20:42Speaker 1: of reverted back to what he was like when he
- 20:43Speaker 1: got hurt initially against the Cardinals, he left the game
- 20:47Speaker 1: came back out with a boot, So hopefully, you know,
- 20:50Speaker 1: Pete Carroll seemed optimistic that he could come back this week.
- 20:54Speaker 1: If not, hopefully, hopefully Cedric a boy Hay who was
- 20:57Speaker 1: out last last couple of weeks is can come back
- 20:59Speaker 1: and be available on Sunday if need be. If not,
- 21:02Speaker 1: it'll be Chad Wheeler. And if it's Chat Wheeler, he's
- 21:05Speaker 1: done okay in the times he stepped in, but he's
- 21:08Speaker 1: definitely gonna have his work cutout for him. So I
- 21:10Speaker 1: don't know if in the game plan you have Will Disley,
- 21:12Speaker 1: Jacob Hollister, Kobe Parkinson, running backs, chipping all that stuff
- 21:16Speaker 1: to give some help to these guys up front. And
- 21:19Speaker 1: I want to see what type of game shout out
- 21:21Speaker 1: of Hammer makes this, because if he wants to go
- 21:22Speaker 1: double tipe packet him, then they'll rull out that fifty front.
- 21:25Speaker 1: They got another guy on the bench ready to go.
- 21:26Speaker 1: They'll roll out that that five front and really challenge
- 21:30Speaker 1: this offensive line. They ran a fifty front a lot
- 21:32Speaker 1: against the forty nine ers and got a lot of push.
- 21:34Speaker 1: So what type of game is this gonna be Are
- 21:36Speaker 1: they gonna come packted? Are they gonna spread it out?
- 21:39Speaker 1: We shall see what happens, all right. The next matchup
- 21:42Speaker 1: Terry McLaurin and Logan Thomas versus Seahawks secondary. Now, Terry
- 21:46Speaker 1: has seventy three receptions one thousand yards, three touchdowns this
- 21:50Speaker 1: second year in the league, and he is a rising
- 21:53Speaker 1: I wouldn't say superstar, but a rising star in this league.
- 21:56Speaker 1: This kid can play. He's got great rosse, has good hands.
- 21:58Speaker 1: He has a long reception of sixty eight yards this
- 22:01Speaker 1: year for a touchdown. Dude can play. And he's backed
- 22:04Speaker 1: up by Thomas forty nine receptions, four hundred and sixty
- 22:06Speaker 1: nine yards, five touchdowns. But they still need a quarterback
- 22:09Speaker 1: to throw them the ball. That's the thing. Receivers, you
- 22:11Speaker 1: can't do it by yourself. You're depending on a lot
- 22:14Speaker 1: of things to go right. If Dwayne Haskins is in
- 22:16Speaker 1: this in this game, I think it gives this defense,
- 22:19Speaker 1: Seahawks defense, and even better chance to put together another
- 22:22Speaker 1: good performance. Yeah, man, I think Terry and Thomas those
- 22:26Speaker 1: are good weapons. I think McLaurin, I think we haven't
- 22:29Speaker 1: heard of him very much in the national spotlight. I
- 22:32Speaker 1: think the first time I kind of start to pay
- 22:33Speaker 1: attention to him is when they played the Steelers on
- 22:35Speaker 1: like that weird Wednesday afternoon, so there's more eyeballs on
- 22:38Speaker 1: the set, so they got some dudes over there. But
- 22:40Speaker 1: like you mentioned, it comes down and who's thrown them
- 22:42Speaker 1: the ball? I think Alex Smith. I hate to say,
- 22:46Speaker 1: I don't want to use the word game manager because
- 22:47Speaker 1: I hate that word. But the way he operates a
- 22:50Speaker 1: football game. He doesn't have a big power arm. He's
- 22:53Speaker 1: not gonna kill you with fifty yard passes going over
- 22:56Speaker 1: the top all day long. He's gonna use his checkdowns.
- 22:58Speaker 1: He's gonna take what the defense has given him. And
- 22:59Speaker 1: he's eight at that, especially later in his career post injury.
- 23:03Speaker 1: He put up some decent numbers his last year in
- 23:06Speaker 1: San Francisco and with the Chiefs before Mahomes. But if
- 23:11Speaker 1: he's in the game, I'm not as worried about things
- 23:13Speaker 1: down the field. I worry about the kind of the
- 23:14Speaker 1: short game stuff, Like I said, Thomas running routes underneath.
- 23:17Speaker 1: But if it t Askins, I do feel like the
- 23:20Speaker 1: Seahawks can create a lot of turnovers for that, and
- 23:22Speaker 1: then that leads into our last matchup Washington running backs
- 23:25Speaker 1: versus Seahawks front seven. So Antonio Gibson, he's a sneaky,
- 23:28Speaker 1: good dude. Man. He's got one hundred and forty one
- 23:30Speaker 1: carries for six hundred and fifty nine yards, eleven touchdowns,
- 23:33Speaker 1: which kind of jumps off. He's getting four point seven
- 23:35Speaker 1: yards a carry, and of course gotta love him. Former
- 23:38Speaker 1: Seahawk JD McKissick JD my Man sixty six carries, two
- 23:42Speaker 1: hundred and ninety nine yards, one touchdown and also super
- 23:45Speaker 1: active in the past game fifty eight reception for four
- 23:48Speaker 1: hundred and twenty six yards. And I'll say this about
- 23:50Speaker 1: JD mckissic. He was such a good dude in this
- 23:52Speaker 1: locker room. And I feel like he's finally being used
- 23:55Speaker 1: the way he should have been being used here. But
- 23:57Speaker 1: you remember a lot when most of the time he
- 23:59Speaker 1: was here, we were struggling up front on the offensive line.
- 24:03Speaker 1: H j D mckissic in twenty seventeen scored the Seahawks
- 24:07Speaker 1: last rushing touchdown by running back and that happened in
- 24:09Speaker 1: Week four. Yeah, So, like you know, JD mkissic gonna
- 24:13Speaker 1: scramble against the colt. So like he's finally being used
- 24:17Speaker 1: as kind of like that scap back that he's he'll
- 24:19Speaker 1: run between the tackles when he has to, but he's
- 24:20Speaker 1: the guy that gets out to the edge and superactive
- 24:22Speaker 1: in the past game. So the Seahawks, definitely, I think
- 24:25Speaker 1: we'll see a huge step up from what they saw
- 24:27Speaker 1: last week at that position. Yes, they will big ups.
- 24:30Speaker 1: JD do your thing, just not against us this weekend.
- 24:33Speaker 1: Least half to victory at the forty five, waits for
- 24:38Speaker 1: the staff. Michael Vickson puts it down. That kick is away.
- 24:41Speaker 1: If that kick is gone, it's gone. It's a pass
- 24:47Speaker 1: to victory on Hawk Talk, all right, pat to victory.
- 24:51Speaker 1: You gotta protect Russell Wilson. The ball needs to get
- 24:53Speaker 1: out of his hands fast, and this office and line
- 24:56Speaker 1: needs to protect against the probably the best D line
- 24:59Speaker 1: in the NFL. Last week, Russ wasn't sacked one time.
- 25:03Speaker 1: It'd be nice if that happened this week. I don't.
- 25:05Speaker 1: I think something's gonna happen. He'll might get sacked once
- 25:08Speaker 1: or twice. I'll take Once you start getting a three full, five, six,
- 25:11Speaker 1: that's where you get in trouble. But you cannot deny
- 25:13Speaker 1: the talent on these defensive line. So you gotta keep
- 25:16Speaker 1: Russell up and he needs to get the ball out
- 25:19Speaker 1: of his hands quickly. Yeah, for sure. And you know
- 25:21Speaker 1: a great way to keep Russell up right, it's Chris Carson.
- 25:24Speaker 1: You need a steady died if Chris Carson, I've been
- 25:26Speaker 1: pounding this into the ground. He needs twenty touches a game,
- 25:29Speaker 1: whether that's through the run in the past, he needs
- 25:31Speaker 1: to be active, screen game all that. One of the
- 25:33Speaker 1: best ways to slow down a great rush pass rush
- 25:37Speaker 1: is running the football to see I said a great
- 25:38Speaker 1: job last Sunday. We're gonna need another repaint performance this
- 25:41Speaker 1: week and they need to start fast. Do not be
- 25:44Speaker 1: the Seahawks that I was on the two thousand and
- 25:47Speaker 1: two thousand and nine. We needs to go back east
- 25:48Speaker 1: and just gets smacked in the morning. No, start fast,
- 25:52Speaker 1: be who you are. We went back east against the Bills,
- 25:55Speaker 1: started slow, big kick returns, Josh Allen looking like an MVP.
- 25:59Speaker 1: Let's get back to the basics. I don't know what
- 26:01Speaker 1: you gotta do, what your your sleep is like, what
- 26:04Speaker 1: your routine is live, But Pete, get those guys there
- 26:07Speaker 1: early and let's take care of them. Yeah, no question.
- 26:10Speaker 1: The thing about it. The weird thing about the Bills
- 26:12Speaker 1: game is they got so good at ten am starts.
- 26:14Speaker 1: They got so good and they won like ten in
- 26:17Speaker 1: a row. So it was so weird to see for
- 26:19Speaker 1: the first time in a long time them just not
- 26:21Speaker 1: look like they were ready to go. They looked flat.
- 26:23Speaker 1: It was. It was a tough look against the Bills.
- 26:25Speaker 1: So we got to get away from that, and man,
- 26:27Speaker 1: we need other strong performance from this defense man. Whoever's
- 26:30Speaker 1: playing quarterback is prone to turning the ball over, okay,
- 26:32Speaker 1: Alex Smith, I think gives them a better chance to win.
- 26:34Speaker 1: But if Hassan's in there, we just need to take
- 26:36Speaker 1: the ball away. We've been playing so good defensively over
- 26:39Speaker 1: the last month. The one thing we're not doing great
- 26:42Speaker 1: is taking the ball away. Quandre Diggs is really excelling
- 26:45Speaker 1: in that and that's that category right now. But as
- 26:47Speaker 1: a unit, we need to do more. We need to
- 26:49Speaker 1: take the ball away. They got some ballers, but they
- 26:50Speaker 1: don't score points. We need. We need to take the
- 26:52Speaker 1: ball away and keep it that way. Ten and four.
- 26:56Speaker 1: Ten and four is what you need to do. I
- 26:57Speaker 1: know this game doesn't mean much when it comes to
- 26:59Speaker 1: the but you might have a chance green Bay still
- 27:02Speaker 1: has to play the Titans, the Saints still have to
- 27:04Speaker 1: play the Cheese, and anything can happen. You take care
- 27:07Speaker 1: business here. You put yourself in good position to at
- 27:09Speaker 1: least fight for that number one spot, no question about it.
- 27:13Speaker 1: Reminder everybody, you can hear us everywhere Seahawks dot Com,
