Speaker 3: Alan Adams, How you doing, my friend?
• 2:47
Speaker 5: I hear that there is a milestone going on today.
• 2:52
  Speaker 6: What's so? What's the milestone?
• 2:54
Speaker 3: I am just trying to figure out what the heck
• 2:56
Speaker 3: Chris Lawrence has done to this microphone, because it's like
• 2:58
Speaker 3: it's in such a position and there we go that
• 3:01
Speaker 3: I can't even turn the mic off and on. I
• 3:03
Speaker 3: don't know what Chris has got deer jerky hanging from
• 3:05
Speaker 3: it or something. Man, I don't what the heck.
• 3:07
Speaker 6: He's done here, but you're drying some leather on it.
• 3:09
Speaker 3: I don't know what the homesteader is doing over here,
• 3:11
Speaker 3: but I don't know what he's done to it. But anyway, yeah,
• 3:15
Speaker 3: yeah today. And you know, I'll say this, I like
• 3:18
Speaker 3: a good Bob Evans mule as much as the next person.
• 3:21
Speaker 3: As much as the next person as I am somebody
• 3:23
Speaker 3: that prefers to, you know, eat locally. But nothing against
• 3:27
Speaker 3: the good folks of Bob Evans or any of those
• 3:28
Speaker 3: they employ a lot of people. Uh, and so, but
• 3:33
Speaker 3: everybody since yesterday has been telling me that effective today,
• 3:38
Speaker 3: I can order off the back of the bob Evans menu. Uh,
• 3:41
Speaker 3: because today I turned fifty five today. I did not
• 3:44
Speaker 3: know that that was even a thing. And again I'm
• 3:47
Speaker 3: not anti that bob Evans. I eat there. You know,
• 3:49
Speaker 3: from time to time, I just did not. I guess
• 3:51
Speaker 3: I just never noticed it because it didn't pertain to me.
• 3:54
Speaker 3: But effective today, people tell me I can order off
• 3:56
Speaker 3: the back of the bob Evans menu.
• 3:59
Speaker 5: I got a question about all that. By the way,
• 4:03
Speaker 5: we're living longer for the most part as adults, Why
• 4:07
Speaker 5: are we still having these? Shouldn't it be higher? Should
• 4:11
Speaker 5: it not be fifty five? Shit, be sixty five seventy.
• 4:15
Speaker 5: I mean, obviously we're keeping you know, people don't want
• 4:18
Speaker 5: to have their social security you know, retirement age raise.
• 4:21
  Speaker 3: What social security?
• 4:22
Speaker 5: Well that's a good point, but like you know, I
• 4:25
Speaker 5: think we were talking before the show. AARP you can
• 4:28
Speaker 5: go on that at forty. I'm forty three.
• 4:31
  Speaker 6: I'm not going on a I don't.
• 4:33
Speaker 3: Know exactly what the year is. And my good friend
• 4:35
Speaker 3: Tom Hunter is listening. He can let me, he can
• 4:37
Speaker 3: let me know right for today. But yeah, I got
• 4:40
Speaker 3: I got an AARP card long ago. And my good
• 4:44
Speaker 3: buddy Jim Strawn, who you know is a frequent guest
• 4:47
Speaker 3: to the show, was talking to Strang last week. Strawn
• 4:49
Speaker 3: and his wife have a condo in Saint Pete and
• 4:52
Speaker 3: he texted me last week and said, hey, I understand
• 4:54
Speaker 3: you turning fifty five next week. You can officially stay
• 4:57
Speaker 3: in my condo now because it's in the fifty five.
• 5:00
Speaker 3: And I know you look look at him and you
• 5:01
Speaker 3: think there's no way to Jim Strown's fifty five, But yeah,
• 5:03
Speaker 3: he's fifty five plus.
• 5:05
Speaker 6: Oh, I assume he was older.
• 5:07
  Speaker 3: I can No, he's older than I am. I'll put
• 5:12
Speaker 3: it that way. I'm not really sure how old Jimmy is,
• 5:14
Speaker 3: but nonetheless he tells me I can stay in his
• 5:16
Speaker 3: condo now because yeah, and you know, here's the thing
• 5:18
Speaker 3: about it. I remember, you know, everybody said, oh, you know,
• 5:22
Speaker 3: turning thirty was the worst possible thing in the world. Well,
• 5:26
Speaker 3: I turned thirty and survived, and then they're all, forty
• 5:29
Speaker 3: forty is the big thing, and then it was fifty
• 5:32
Speaker 3: and now it's fifty five. And yeah, I'll be honest
• 5:35
Speaker 3: with you, I have been extremely blessed in my time.
• 5:39
Speaker 3: I've I am on one medication and that is for
• 5:44
Speaker 3: high blood pressure, and that's it.
• 5:47
Speaker 6: I have heard me.
• 5:48
Speaker 3: I eat. I still, you know, eat like a college kid.
• 5:52
Speaker 3: To a certain extent, I am a food If you
• 5:54
Speaker 3: follow me on social media, you'll know that carry a
• 5:57
Speaker 3: little bit too much around the middle of you know.
• 6:00
Speaker 3: But other than that, I'm I'm in pretty good shape.
• 6:03
  Speaker 2: Now.
• 6:03
Speaker 3: I could say that, and I could probably drop that.
• 6:05
Speaker 3: Speaking of dropping dead, Steve, I want to say thank
• 6:09
Speaker 3: you to you for last week, and I've told the
• 6:14
Speaker 3: story on the air and I've had a lot of
• 6:15
Speaker 3: fun with it. But so we could go Sunday back
• 6:18
Speaker 3: when the Cowboys used to win games and not get
• 6:20
Speaker 3: blown out by inferior team.
• 6:22
Speaker 6: Like I was gonna bring you some toimes today as
• 6:24
  Speaker 6: a birthday give.
• 6:26
Speaker 3: You know, so you know the Stephen, we could go
• 6:30
Speaker 3: Sunday and that Cowboys exciting overtime game. Uh, tweets out
• 6:36
Speaker 3: you still call them tweets x's out post if whenever
• 6:39
Speaker 3: twet tweets out something to the effect of thought and
• 6:42
Speaker 3: prayers for Dave Allen on his heart and it was
• 6:44
Speaker 3: because of the Cowboys. And then I start getting random
• 6:47
Speaker 3: texts from people saying, hey, are you okay? And then
• 6:49
Speaker 3: you texted me. You text me and said you're probably
• 6:53
Speaker 3: going to start getting text about your heart condition, and uh,
• 6:58
Speaker 3: and I appreciate you can started, but no, it wasn't.
• 7:01
Speaker 3: It was game related. It had nothing to do with
• 7:03
  Speaker 3: the old ticker.
• 7:05
Speaker 5: Yeah, I mean, man, I I've been around the internet
• 7:09
  Speaker 5: for hotman and I'm a genial, which means I'm I
• 7:13
Speaker 5: hate that word too, but like it's accommodation of millennial
• 7:17
Speaker 5: and gen x, and I consider myself more of a
• 7:20
  Speaker 5: gen x.
• 7:20
Speaker 3: Either your gen X, I don't care when you were bad.
• 7:23
Speaker 6: I'm a gen xer. By all leaps and backs.
• 7:26
Speaker 3: You and I may be boomers. Actually I mean, I
• 7:28
  Speaker 3: know technically we're gen X, but I got I got
• 7:30
  Speaker 3: boomer tendencies.
• 7:31
Speaker 5: I was one of the say I feel safe in
• 7:33
Speaker 5: saving it was one of the state's first bloggers, and
• 7:35
Speaker 5: then you were And then micro blogging came along, which
• 7:39
Speaker 5: is what Twitter was called. It was a micro blogging
• 7:42
Speaker 5: service and ever since then, everyone's been putting their thoughts
• 7:46
Speaker 5: out there. And as we've discovered over the last nearly
• 7:49
Speaker 5: twenty years of this service, it's it's a nightmare and
• 7:53
  Speaker 5: it's a cesspool. And West Virginia twitter x is a
• 7:57
Speaker 5: very small community. I thought more people knew your love
• 8:02
Speaker 5: of the Cowboys then I guess actually did. So when
• 8:06
Speaker 5: I put that out there, people went for the worst
• 8:08
Speaker 5: case scenario. I'm like, I'm like, did you not watch
• 8:11
Speaker 5: the Cowboys game? Like all we do is have Cowboys
• 8:13
Speaker 5: like TV like football and the TV now in our
• 8:16
  Speaker 5: house on Sundays.
• 8:17
Speaker 6: I watched that game. I nearly had a heart attack.
• 8:19
Speaker 5: Like I thought people would understand, but some people didn't.
• 8:23
Speaker 5: So be careful what you just put out there as
• 8:26
Speaker 5: we have learned in the last few weeks.
• 8:28
Speaker 3: Yeah, but but it came from a good place and
• 8:31
Speaker 3: it was actually funny later because you know, I got
• 8:34
Speaker 3: to do a little little front porch setting in my
• 8:36
Speaker 3: cowboys gear and talk about it and everything. But it's
• 8:39
Speaker 3: nice to know that people care.
• 8:40
Speaker 6: People do care people.
• 8:42
Speaker 3: That was the nice statement. No, my my heart is
• 8:44
Speaker 3: fine as far as I know anyway. But they've alent
• 8:46
Speaker 3: show on five any Live is brought to you a
• 8:47
Speaker 3: part by Jute j o ot Security systems is protected
• 8:50
Speaker 3: by jute dot com or check them out on Facebook.
• 8:53
Speaker 3: So what's now? Uh uh in your world? You know,
• 8:56
Speaker 3: we were talking before the show, and Brad and I
• 8:58
Speaker 3: were talking last hour too. I mean political. I do
• 9:01
Speaker 3: have a couple of things political I want to bring up.
• 9:03
Speaker 3: But you know, no special session.
• 9:05
Speaker 5: No special session. No, it probably won't be one. I
• 9:07
Speaker 5: really don't think there's going to be one.
• 9:09
  Speaker 3: I don't think so.
• 9:09
Speaker 5: If there is, it's going to be next month. That's
• 9:11
Speaker 5: the best opportunity. November the lawmakers travel to Pipe Stem
• 9:15
Speaker 5: so as the traveling interims, you're not going to do
• 9:17
  Speaker 5: it then.
• 9:17
Speaker 3: And I have something in October to.
• 9:20
Speaker 5: They have a normal interims not normal. But that's that's
• 9:22
Speaker 5: why I say the October ideal time to do it.
• 9:26
Speaker 5: December at that point, I mean, what's the point. I mean,
• 9:29
Speaker 5: Brad's written some good stories about PIA. I've covered some
• 9:32
Speaker 5: issues with PI and looked into reports, and the thirty
• 9:34
Speaker 5: secret is outside of some issues that were caused which
• 9:38
Speaker 5: caused the premiums to get frozen, didn't cause them to
• 9:41
Speaker 5: go up all of a sudden, stuff like that. We're
• 9:44
Speaker 5: kind of out of that, out of those woods right now. PIA.
• 9:47
Speaker 5: The actual finances of it are fine. The problem is
• 9:51
Speaker 5: healthcare costs, prescription drug costs, which you're going to keep
• 9:54
Speaker 5: going up in the state's got to deal with that.
• 9:56
Speaker 5: But they could deal with that in a regular session
• 9:58
Speaker 5: and how to kind of find and weighs the save
• 10:00
Speaker 5: money here and there.
• 10:02
Speaker 6: I don't think they'll go to extreme methods.
• 10:04
Speaker 5: They're not going to privatize, they're not going to kick
• 10:07
Speaker 5: city and county employees off, They're not going to make
• 10:09
Speaker 5: spouses get kicked off. I don't think that's gonna happen.
• 10:13
Speaker 5: Not an election here, but they'll do some stuff here.
• 10:15
Speaker 5: I think in the regular session they can wait.
• 10:16
Speaker 3: All right, I talk to Steven Allen Adams of Ogden Newspapers.
• 10:19
Speaker 3: I want to talk to you about the number of
• 10:22
Speaker 3: Republicans that are that are that are running for office.
• 10:25
Speaker 3: And look, you know, the Democrats controlled was Virginia for
• 10:28
Speaker 3: eighty three years and it was the same thing then
• 10:30
Speaker 3: growing up where I did. The election was held in May. Uh,
• 10:35
Speaker 3: there was no general election unless you had president on
• 10:37
Speaker 3: the ballot or something or may be governor. Uh, it
• 10:40
Speaker 3: was the all Democrats. Everything was decided, you know, second
• 10:43
Speaker 3: Tuesday in May or whatever. It is all right. Uh,
• 10:46
Speaker 3: but now we're starting to see that with the Republicans.
• 10:48
Speaker 3: And I say that because and I'll give you I'll
• 10:51
Speaker 3: give you one example, uh, State Center District four, which
• 10:54
Speaker 3: this particular seat that that Eric Tarr, doctor Sittson, doctor
• 10:58
Speaker 3: Surface is running. There's at least one of the gentlemen.
• 11:03
Speaker 3: And I've had him both on the show. Actually had
• 11:06
Speaker 3: had to Eric Turrn the show last week. But there's
• 11:08
Speaker 3: another gentleman, Travis Willard, that's running. He's been on the show.
• 11:11
Speaker 3: Doctor Phillips Servias was on the show yesterday. I was
• 11:13
Speaker 3: told this morning that there's another one. I don't know.
• 11:15
Speaker 3: I haven't looked it up to see and I say
• 11:18
Speaker 3: that because it's still early. I mean, yeah, today is
• 11:20
Speaker 3: the first full day of fall. Used to be you
• 11:23
Speaker 3: didn't have these announcements. But it's all about it's all
• 11:25
Speaker 3: about running. I just think it's interesting and I'm not
• 11:28
Speaker 3: I'm not on either side. I'm just saying I think
• 11:30
Speaker 3: it's interesting that now the Republicans and I'm hearing that
• 11:35
Speaker 3: there's going to be primary opponents for everybody around the
• 11:38
Speaker 3: state of West Virginia. It's just interesting.
• 11:40
Speaker 6: Oh, it really is.
• 11:42
Speaker 5: A canadithiling period will begin in January last for more
• 11:45
Speaker 5: or less a month, and you're right, a lot of
• 11:47
Speaker 5: these elections will probably get settled in May twenty twenty six.
• 11:52
Speaker 5: And you're talking about, as we've talked about over the years,
• 11:55
Speaker 5: different factions of Republicans flight red versus dark red, far
• 12:00
Speaker 5: versus more moderate. And that's going to be really interesting
• 12:03
Speaker 5: to see once we get further into the election period, because,
• 12:06
Speaker 5: as we've talked about, also your independent that your un
• 12:09
Speaker 5: affiliated voters cannot vote in the Republican primary this year,
• 12:13
Speaker 5: so some of those voters that might have gone more
• 12:15
Speaker 5: moderate aren't going to be there unless they switch parties,
• 12:19
Speaker 5: and that's going to create real interesting in dynamics. So
• 12:22
Speaker 5: who's going to contain get more control over to Western
• 12:24
Speaker 5: Ginia legislature after twenty twenty six. This is going to
• 12:26
Speaker 5: be the light red or the dark red. That's what's
• 12:28
Speaker 5: going to be really interesting to see.
• 12:30
Speaker 3: I talked to one state senator earlier this morning who's
• 12:33
Speaker 3: not named Eric Tarr. I'll say it's not Eric Tar.
• 12:35
Speaker 3: I did talk to a one state senator who told me,
• 12:38
Speaker 3: and I won't mention his or her name, but this
• 12:40
Speaker 3: person told me, I am more worried about the far
• 12:44
Speaker 3: right of the Republican Party than I am the Democrats.
• 12:46
Speaker 3: And I mean rightfully so, probably because the numbers, Yeah,
• 12:50
Speaker 3: it's simple numbers. But this person told me. They said
• 12:52
Speaker 3: that they were very, very concerned about the far right
• 12:55
Speaker 3: wing of the Republican Party more so than what they
• 12:59
Speaker 3: were about the Democrats.
• 13:01
Speaker 5: Yeah, I can understand that concern. We've kind of seen
• 13:05
Speaker 5: the legislature take on, certainly more of a weirdly enough
• 13:10
Speaker 5: for Republicans, a big government view, wanting more governments say
• 13:14
Speaker 5: and control on different aspects of our lives. We've seen
• 13:18
Speaker 5: that through different legislation that popped up during the most
• 13:20
  Speaker 5: recent legislative session.
• 13:24
Speaker 6: A little bit of short horseshoe theory too.
• 13:26
Speaker 5: There are some issues now that you have thought would
• 13:28
Speaker 5: have been on the far left and now are on
• 13:29
Speaker 5: the far right. The vaccine issues certainly is one of them.
• 13:31
Speaker 5: And we could see something even next year, something similar
• 13:35
Speaker 5: to what's happening in Florida, where someone introduces a bill
• 13:37
Speaker 5: just to get rid of vaccine requirements for school children altogether.
• 13:41
Speaker 5: We'll see if that happens, and I don't know if
• 13:43
Speaker 5: it would go anywhere if they did, but point being,
• 13:46
Speaker 5: you are going to see more instances like that that
• 13:49
Speaker 5: they're going to cause some people concern and voters are
• 13:52
Speaker 5: going to have to make a choice down the road
• 13:55
Speaker 5: as to whether they that's the path they want to
• 13:57
Speaker 5: go down or not. They could backfire report publicans too.
• 14:01

Speaker 3: thank you. Once one day you'll turn fifty five. No,
• 18:03
Speaker 3: I quit counting at fifty three. Fifty three? Was that
• 18:06
  Speaker 3: just thing?
• 18:07
Speaker 12: It was just it was just one of those years
• 18:10
Speaker 12: where you just said I'm done, I'm not going counting
• 18:12
Speaker 12: count Yeah. Hello, and it's been twenty five years since then.
• 18:18
Speaker 3: Carry the three double mind. Come on, let that logan
• 18:21
Speaker 3: math see ken, Buddy, Well you know what logan. If
• 18:25
Speaker 3: we can't do the math, we just recruit somebody that
• 18:27
Speaker 3: can do it. Well, that's what you anyway, Welcome to
• 18:30
Speaker 3: the show. Announcement made yesterday that Jack Cookfield, the new
• 18:34
Speaker 3: home of Marshall University's baseball team, will be the new
• 18:37
Speaker 3: home for the State Baseball Tournament.
• 18:38
Speaker 12: Good your thoughts great. I think it's wonderful. You know,
• 18:42
Speaker 12: to take nothing away from the city of Charleston, they
• 18:44
Speaker 12: hosted that event for forty five years nineteen eighty. I've
• 18:49
Speaker 12: done games at Watt Powell Park up on the roof
• 18:51
Speaker 12: when the old tar roof was melting in the hot,
• 18:54
Speaker 12: hot sun, the showcase event at a show place.
• 19:00
Speaker 3: I think the field is awesome down there. I mean
• 19:03
  Speaker 3: it's it's incredible. And lord, I mean I was a
• 19:06
Speaker 3: student at Marshall starting in nineteen ninety they were talking
• 19:09
Speaker 3: about a stadium then. If that tells you anything, that's
• 19:12
Speaker 3: when they were playing at Saint Cloud's Commons.
• 19:13
Speaker 12: Young man that went to Woodrow Wilson High School in
• 19:17
Speaker 12: Beckley and great baseball player Steve Ball, and they recruited
• 19:21
Speaker 12: Steve Ball to play baseball in Huntington at Marshall University.
• 19:25
Speaker 12: With that, Hey, we're going to have a new stadium
• 19:28
  Speaker 12: nineteen ninety two.
• 19:29
Speaker 3: Yeah, it's been a long time coming, but I agree.
• 19:33
Speaker 3: I mean, I'm sure it's the city of Charleston. And
• 19:37
Speaker 3: I don't you know more than I do about how
• 19:38
Speaker 3: all the whole process works out. But the city of
• 19:41
Speaker 3: Charlestons you said, has hosted it since nineteen eighty. And
• 19:46
Speaker 3: as much as I love the city that I that
• 19:48
Speaker 3: I work in, and I think the city over the
• 19:50
Speaker 3: years has done a fantastic job on that, I think
• 19:52
Speaker 3: it's good, you know, to maybe move things around a
• 19:54
Speaker 3: little big gif give some other cities a little slice of.
• 19:57
Speaker 12: The pie, and you have to look at what else
• 19:59
Speaker 12: is still remaining in Charles.
• 20:01
Speaker 3: Yeah, it's not like the city's going out of business.
• 20:03
Speaker 12: I still have the track meet. They have baseball or
• 20:06
Speaker 12: the basketball, the football, they have cheerleading. Uh you know,
• 20:09
Speaker 12: just across in another small in another town just close
• 20:13
Speaker 12: to here, in South Charleston, they have the softball So
• 20:15
Speaker 12: I mean which for years, right, they have tennis here
• 20:18
Speaker 12: in Charleston. So yeah, it is good and I don't
• 20:22
Speaker 12: think they could have picked up better place, particularly in
• 20:24
Speaker 12: the fact that we're going to a ridiculous number of
• 20:29
  Speaker 12: games in twenty.
• 20:30
Speaker 3: Six that's that's your biggest concern, and it is the
• 20:33
Speaker 3: number of games that work play weather.
• 20:35
Speaker 12: Yeah, you know, as beautiful as the field is in
• 20:38
Speaker 12: Marshall University. It's not a dome, you know, And I
• 20:41
Speaker 12: mean weather can play a part that time of the year,
• 20:44
Speaker 12: and you've got the softball tournament backing right up against
• 20:47
Speaker 12: it the week prior to that, so you know, you
• 20:50
Speaker 12: just you got to hope for two weeks of great
• 20:52
Speaker 12: weather and then you get them in.
• 20:53
Speaker 3: And that's fair which is likely not going to happen
• 20:55
Speaker 3: in June, I mean, because it is. That's you know,
• 20:58
Speaker 3: that's that's kind of the way.
• 20:59
Speaker 12: It is a seven day of that They'll start on Saturday,
• 21:02
Speaker 12: June sixth, skip Sunday, and then all the following next
• 21:06
Speaker 12: week through Saturday will be baseball as well. So it's
• 21:10
Speaker 12: but you have to do that in order to get
• 21:12
Speaker 12: that many games in. We used to have four teams.
• 21:14
Speaker 12: Now you got eight teams and four classes.
• 21:16
Speaker 3: That's thirty two team names that are coming again. As
• 21:19
Speaker 3: I said, you're not a fan of expanding the playoffs
• 21:22
  Speaker 3: so much.
• 21:22
Speaker 12: I'm not a fan of four classes. I've said that
• 21:24
Speaker 12: many towsand times. It's the state's just too small. It's
• 21:28
Speaker 12: just too small. And I get what they're saying. You know,
• 21:30
Speaker 12: we're seeing teams at the State championship events that have
• 21:34
Speaker 12: never been there before. Okay, fine, I guess, but still,
• 21:41
Speaker 12: in my opinion, and just my opinion, I don't think
• 21:44
Speaker 12: a senior in high school wants to go out their
• 21:46
Speaker 12: last game in basketball they got beat by sixty Ye
• 21:51
Speaker 12: what kind of a remember? What kind of a memory
• 21:52
Speaker 12: is that? And I see that happening all the time.
• 21:55
Speaker 12: But again, they did not consult me when they went.
• 21:59
Speaker 3: To what exactly explain for people that don't know what
• 22:04
Speaker 3: exactly goes into the bidding process for these cities? How
• 22:08
Speaker 3: does it? And I know maybe every situation is different,
• 22:10
Speaker 3: but just give us an overview.
• 22:12
Speaker 12: Overview simple enough that you have a certain period of
• 22:15
Speaker 12: time to submit your bid, your bid meaning for the
• 22:19
Speaker 12: city that you want to represent. And I mean it's
• 22:21
Speaker 12: not just one person going up with a piece of paper.
• 22:23
Speaker 12: I mean these bids really get down into the nitty
• 22:26
Speaker 12: gritty what are you going to do for all of
• 22:27
Speaker 12: the teams and what kind of an experience is it
• 22:31
Speaker 12: going to be for the teams? And there is a
• 22:34
Speaker 12: dollar figure, of course, affixed to all of that. And honestly,
• 22:38
Speaker 12: the ssac's board of directors, they look at all of
• 22:41
Speaker 12: them and what is best for the student athlete. What
• 22:44
Speaker 12: kind of experience is it going to be? And I
• 22:47
Speaker 12: think sometimes I think Wheeling is a great example. Wheeling
• 22:52
Speaker 12: had football for thirty years and I didn't see it
• 22:55
Speaker 12: leaving Wheeling because I thought they did just an excellent job.
• 22:58
Speaker 12: But give credit to Mike Harbigaff and that crew here
• 23:00
Speaker 12: in Charleston last year. I had zero problems with it
• 23:04
Speaker 12: being in Charleston. I thought it was great. They did
• 23:06
Speaker 12: an excellent job. They've got a huge meeting coming up
• 23:09
Speaker 12: on October the sixth where they're going to go over
• 23:11
Speaker 12: everything and see how they can even make it better
• 23:14
Speaker 12: than they did last year. And that's what it's about.
• 23:16
Speaker 12: You get it one year, everybody's excited. It's the next year.
• 23:19
Speaker 12: You can't let down. You got to make it better.
• 23:21
Speaker 12: And so I see that happening in Charleston. So again,
• 23:24
Speaker 12: once the bids are all in, then they're all looked
• 23:28
Speaker 12: at by the board of directors and they say, okay,
• 23:31
Speaker 12: we'll have a vote on it. And the bid getting
• 23:34
Speaker 12: the most boats is through bid is going to win.
• 23:36
Speaker 12: And a lot of times, though I think it's only
• 23:39
Speaker 12: fair to state, a lot of times there's only one
• 23:41
Speaker 12: bid because cities like for example, the cross country. I
• 23:47
Speaker 12: don't think you can take it to a better place
• 23:50
Speaker 12: than where it's at now, and that's at Cabal Midlands
• 23:52
Speaker 12: cross Country Field in Ona. I mean that course was
• 23:56
Speaker 12: built directly because they wanted that state tournament event and
• 24:00
Speaker 12: that's what they get. Soccer's in Beckley. They've got two
• 24:03
Speaker 12: back to back turfed soccer fields at Clined Soccer Complex
• 24:07
Speaker 12: and that's where it's been for quite a while now
• 24:09
Speaker 12: and we'll stay there for a while until somebody comes
• 24:11
Speaker 12: up with what might be a better bid. But you
• 24:13
Speaker 12: got to have the facilities, number one. That's why Marshall
• 24:16
Speaker 12: never did get baseball. They didn't have the facilities for you.
• 24:18
Speaker 12: Now they've got them and they put in a great bid.
• 24:21
Speaker 12: Marshall University got behind this, I understand, along with the
• 24:24
Speaker 12: city of Huntington. And it's smart for Marshall because everyone
• 24:28
Speaker 12: in the area here knows about the brand new baseball
• 24:32
Speaker 12: field at Marshall University. Not too many folks outside the
• 24:35
Speaker 12: state are around the state and they'll get that exposure,
• 24:39
Speaker 12: so they know they're smart, they know what they're doing.
• 24:41
Speaker 12: So I think it's great and again absolutely nothing against
• 24:45
Speaker 12: the city of Charleston.
• 24:46
Speaker 3: They did a great job for forty years. Forty five years.
• 24:49
Speaker 3: That's an incredible run when you think about it. I
• 24:51
Speaker 3: mean when you think about the age of I mean
• 24:54
Speaker 3: we're talking a lot about ages today with this being
• 24:56
Speaker 3: my birthday in nineteen eighty in Yunon of nineteen eighty
• 25:01
Speaker 3: I was nine years old about to turn ten, so
• 25:04
Speaker 3: that should tell you. So I was a little older
• 25:06
Speaker 3: than that, just a little bit. But you stopped counting
• 25:08
Speaker 3: at age eleven, I think you said, or something like that.
• 25:11
Speaker 3: But yeah, I mean, and I think it's great. By
• 25:13
Speaker 3: the way, I will mention that the Mayor of Huntington,
• 25:16
Speaker 3: Patrick Ferrell's going to be on Metro News midday today
• 25:18
Speaker 3: to talk about it.
• 25:19
Speaker 12: We reached out to him as they have to be
• 25:21
Speaker 12: excited about it. I know folks at Marshall University. I
• 25:24
Speaker 12: talked with some folks last night. They're thrilled about the
• 25:27
Speaker 12: fact that they get it and they will do an
• 25:29
Speaker 12: excellent job with it. Steve Cotton, everybody our buddy. Steve Cotton.
• 25:33
Speaker 12: He said, Reid, you're going to love the press box
• 25:36
Speaker 12: because it was designed for broadcasters. So looking forward to that.
• 25:39
Speaker 3: Well, and you're somebody like me who lives at the
• 25:41
Speaker 3: halfway point, and I'm talking about personal reasons. You know,
• 25:44
Speaker 3: you live at the halfway point as I, so you
• 25:46
Speaker 3: can be in Huntington once you get through the red
• 25:49
Speaker 3: light and the construction on how Greer Boulevard. I think
• 25:51
Speaker 3: how Greer actually started that construction. That's how long ago
• 25:54
Speaker 3: it's been. But that whole area has been under construction.
• 25:56
Speaker 3: But that notwithstanding, it's just as easy for you for
• 25:59
Speaker 3: a person reason to be in Honey Times is Worth.
• 26:02
Speaker 12: Charles and I talked with Travis Jones about that yesterday.
• 26:04
Speaker 12: I said, I'm fine, you know, because what is great
• 26:07
Speaker 12: about being a part of the broadcast team for all
• 26:09
Speaker 12: the state broadcasts that we do. You know sometimes staying
• 26:12
Speaker 12: in a hotel. I stay in enough hotel rooms, you know,
• 26:14
Speaker 12: during this time of the year, so I get to
• 26:17
Speaker 12: stay at home and still do the tournament.
• 26:19
  Speaker 3: That's that's fantastic. I love that.
• 26:21
  Speaker 12: So it's it's gonna be it's great. It's great for
• 26:23
Speaker 12: high school baseball fans. It holds thirty five hundred, which
• 26:27
Speaker 12: is perfect for this tournament. And I think it's gonna
• 26:30
Speaker 12: be wonderful. I'm looking forward to it. I think it'll
• 26:32
Speaker 12: be a great, great thing to do.
• 26:33
Speaker 3: And it's I don't have the dates in front of me.
• 26:35
Speaker 3: I think it's like six through the Thirtjune sixth through
• 26:38
Speaker 3: the thirteenth. It's already make any plans, all right? Before
• 26:41
Speaker 3: we let you go, we have you on Metro News
• 26:42
Speaker 3: Midday every Wednesday to talk about the Power Index and
• 26:45
Speaker 3: the ratings and so on and so forth. Give you
• 26:48
Speaker 3: just a little bit of a preview. We'll have you
• 26:49
Speaker 3: on the show at one forty five tomorrow afternoon. Anything
• 26:52
Speaker 3: just kind of come out and surprise you anything, any
• 26:55
Speaker 3: any big news out of the Power Index? Can I
• 26:58
Speaker 3: mention to my Logan Wilde answer? Now four and o
• 27:01
Speaker 3: for the first time since nineteen ninety.
• 27:02
Speaker 12: Coach Nick Booth is doing a great job, and they're
• 27:04
Speaker 12: going into the bye week this week, and I talked
• 27:05
Speaker 12: to great time for them.
• 27:07
Speaker 3: I talked to him a couple of weeks ago. He said, I,
• 27:08
Speaker 3: you know, coaches don't coach speak. You know, we were
• 27:11
Speaker 3: texting back and more, and he said, I would like
• 27:14
Speaker 3: I would like to be four and o going into
• 27:16
Speaker 3: the bye week. And they beat Wayne on the Island
• 27:18
Speaker 3: last week, so so they're four and oh.
• 27:20
Speaker 12: But anything else, it's you know, I got the ratings
• 27:22
Speaker 12: this morning from the S S a C for week five.
• 27:25
Speaker 3: It's actually weeks week four.
• 27:28
Speaker 12: This is week five of the games, but everything's still
• 27:32
Speaker 12: you know, I honestly think they bring the rating out
• 27:34
Speaker 12: too soon because other people said, but this Friday night,

• 27:52
Speaker 12: so you know, it's uh, it's just one of those
• 27:54
Speaker 12: crazy things. But we still have a couple of teams
• 27:57
Speaker 12: in Class Quade that at the playoffs started today, they

  Speaker 3: They haven't won a game. Yeah, and now let's let's
• 28:06
Speaker 3: let that sink in from they have they have not

Speaker 3: True. I did not know him personally, but from everybody
• 28:42
Speaker 3: that I knew that did know Sean, he was a
• 28:46
Speaker 3: uh he was a gentleman first and foremost. That's what
• 28:48
Speaker 3: I was. That's exactly the words that they were told
• 28:50
Speaker 3: to me, no doubt about it. He was a gentleman.
• 28:53
Speaker 12: He knew he knew football as well as anyone at

Speaker 3: She's a native of Mullins in Wyoming County. Kind of
• 33:38
Speaker 3: out of the limelight for a little while, but I
• 33:40
Speaker 3: mean she her star really exploded, you know, decaded or so,
• 33:46
Speaker 3: maybe two decades or so ago, and now she has
• 33:48
Speaker 3: a movie. There was a very popular documentary about her.

Speaker 3: But now she has a movie coming out about her life.

• 34:15
Speaker 3: Mentioned earlier. Huntington Mayor Patrick Ferrell will be on the
• 34:18
Speaker 3: show today to talk about the city of Huntington getting
• 34:21
Speaker 3: the state Baseball Tournament for the first time since nineteen eighty.
• 34:25
Speaker 3: The state Baseball Tournament will not be played in Charleston
• 34:30
Speaker 3: for so many years at wat Powell Park and then
• 34:31
Speaker 3: later at gomart Ballpark, and the bids and it was
• 34:37
Speaker 3: put out to a bit as it is in the
• 34:39
Speaker 3: city of Huntington got it and it's a big deal
• 34:42
Speaker 3: for the city of Huntington Marshall University. Of course they
• 34:44
Speaker 3: got the Jack Cook Field. The Field of Dreams is
• 34:47
Speaker 3: what people around Huntingson call it. And I'll tell you,
• 34:49
Speaker 3: if you've never seen that stadium, it is phenomenal. Not
• 34:52
Speaker 3: throwing any shade on Gomart Ballpark, which still looks great
• 34:54
Speaker 3: after all these years. Twenty years now Gomart Ballpark formerly
• 34:58
Speaker 3: Appalachian Power Park has been open. But I'll tell you this,
• 35:03
Speaker 3: this field in Huntington is fantastic. So I think I
• 35:07
Speaker 3: think it's good. We're gonna talk to Patrick Ferrell about that.
• 35:10
Speaker 3: And as I said earlier in my conversation with Fred,
• 35:12
Speaker 3: I just I like shaking it up every now. And
• 35:14
Speaker 3: I'm sorry I haven't talked to anybody from the city
• 35:16
Speaker 3: of Charleston, but I'm sure they were, you know, they
• 35:19
Speaker 3: weren't happy about the situation. But you know what, Charleston
• 35:22
Speaker 3: still has the state basketball tournament, it still has the
• 35:25
Speaker 3: football championships, and South Charleston's got softball and you know,
• 35:29
Speaker 3: all these other things going on. So you know, it's
• 35:32
Speaker 3: hats off to Mayor Ferrell and the folks at Marshall
• 35:35

• 35:37
Speaker 3: the state baseball tournament and we'll talk to the Huntington

Speaker 3: the final time, the Jimmy Kimmel situation, because the announcement

Speaker 3: was made yesterday that Jimmy Kimmel is returning to the

• 36:05
Speaker 3: As far as I know, you will not be seeing
• 36:07
Speaker 3: them locally Charleston though, and I'm going to explain that
• 36:09
Speaker 3: coming up a little bit later on. But that's what's

Speaker 3: because he's not the owner of Metro News. Yesterday last

Speaker 3: little bit later on, had done a commentary, and in

Speaker 3: owned by left wing liberal so on so and that
• 37:02
Speaker 3: Ben Selango was the owner of Metro News. I'm here

Speaker 3: of Metro News. As far as I know, we're all

Speaker 3: still working for the same guy we always were working for.
• 37:14
Speaker 3: And Ben Selango is not the owner of Metro News
• 37:17
Speaker 3: unless unless something happened I didn't know about. I saw

Speaker 3: The way they looked against the Bears though, I mean,

• 38:18
Speaker 3: It is looking like mister Lamb is going to be

• 39:22
Speaker 3: And mister Arbgas has done a whole lot with the

Speaker 3: went on to become a teacher. He was past principal

Speaker 3: twenty twenty. No doubt, no reason to doubt what the
• 41:28
Speaker 3: text you're saying. I'll do a little research on that,
• 41:30
Speaker 3: but appreciate, appreciate the text. And you know, as I
• 41:35
Speaker 3: get older and people talk about social Security, and I
• 41:39
Speaker 3: have my concerns about social Security. I've been told by
• 41:41
Speaker 3: several people that someone of my age shouldn't necessarily be

• 41:49
Speaker 3: But look from I started paying into Social Security when
• 41:53
Speaker 3: I was seventeen years old. Okay. I never once, never,
• 41:58
Speaker 3: once thought social Security to be there, and I'm still
• 42:01
Speaker 3: not so sure it will be when I retire. Although
• 42:05
Speaker 3: to be honest with you, I don't see me ever retiring.
• 42:08
Speaker 3: I mean, I talk. They pay me to set behind
• 42:11
Speaker 3: this microphone and talk. I mean, I'm not digging ditches here, okay,
• 42:15
Speaker 3: And so as long as I can walk and talk,
• 42:17
Speaker 3: I don't plan on ever retiring, and I never planned
• 42:19
Speaker 3: on Social Security being there ever. You know that's not
• 42:22
Speaker 3: social Security was not designed to live on. It was
• 42:25
Speaker 3: never designed to live on. It was designed to be supplemental.
• 42:27
Speaker 3: That's why it's called supplemental. Tex says, I know one thing.

Speaker 3: but get late yesterday, Uh, the announcement was made that
• 43:03
Speaker 3: Jimmy Kimmel is returning to the airways. Be interesting. I'd
• 43:08
Speaker 3: like to know what his ratings are going to be
• 43:09
Speaker 3: tonight because a lot of people are going to be
• 43:11
Speaker 3: checking out. But again with ratings and the way that
• 43:13
Speaker 3: TV and radio works now, people don't always listen live
• 43:16
Speaker 3: or watch live. They do it on their schedule, the
• 43:19
Speaker 3: show and other programs that we air, you know, are
• 43:23
Speaker 3: the same way. Uh. It was announced though that Sinclair,
• 43:29

• 43:34
Speaker 3: including locally w c HS Television No No Relation does
• 43:38

• 43:41
  Speaker 2: Uh.
• 43:42
Speaker 3: Sinclair has announced that they will not be airing the
• 43:43
Speaker 3: Jimmy Kimmel Show. So unless somebody is listening from w
• 43:48
Speaker 3: c HS Television that can correct me, otherwise, I am
• 43:50
Speaker 3: presuming that it will not airon Charleston. I'm presuming that
• 43:53
Speaker 3: now I may be wrong about that. So if somebody
• 43:56
Speaker 3: from over there is listening and they want to correct me.
• 43:57
Speaker 3: But you know, the Sinclair Stations, which is the parent
• 44:01
Speaker 3: company of WCCHS Television No Relation andch and Fox eleven,
• 44:06
Speaker 3: I should say, are are not going to be airing
• 44:09
Speaker 3: the Jimmy Kimmel Show from what I understand. Now, if
• 44:11
Speaker 3: I'm wrong, folks over WCCHS Television can let me know

Speaker 3: Crouton of course our big success story. Cruton's a dog,
• 47:14
Speaker 3: by the way, in case you're wondering that, I'm not
• 47:15
Speaker 3: sure that the dog texted that end. I think it's
• 47:18
Speaker 3: Cruton's parents that did that, but uh, anyway, Kreuton is
• 47:21
Speaker 3: one of our big success stories from our future. We
• 47:23
Speaker 3: do every Friday the Adopt Me Please Pet of the
• 47:25

• 47:29
Speaker 3: named Crouton and uh is a great social media follow

• 47:36
Speaker 3: just one that we always point to that they've even
• 47:39
Speaker 3: brought at various live events. They brought Creuton to see me.
• 47:42
Speaker 3: So uh, I'm glad that to Kreuton's dad is celebrating
• 47:44
  Speaker 3: a birthday day.
• 47:45
  Speaker 11: You know.
• 47:45
Speaker 3: Also I'll say this with the day, with today being
• 47:51
Speaker 3: my birthday, I will also say Mike Plant, who was
• 47:54
Speaker 3: a very frequent guest to this show and also to
• 47:58
Speaker 3: talk Line, Mike Plant, polytical strategist of the Democratic Variety,
• 48:03
Speaker 3: Mike Plant is celebrating the birthday today. And Plant sent
• 48:08
Speaker 3: me a text of an article that says that today
• 48:11
Speaker 3: is the day the world ends anyway, because some group
• 48:15
Speaker 3: has said that they've done the calculations and that today
• 48:17
Speaker 3: the rapture is happening today and the world is going
• 48:20
Speaker 3: to come to an end. So if that is the case,
• 48:23
Speaker 3: then I will not see you on the show tomorrow,
• 48:27
Speaker 3: just so you know. But yeah, Mike Plant is also
• 48:29
Speaker 3: celebrating the birthday today. And I know there's an unwritten
• 48:32
Speaker 3: rule in the world of radio, and I suppose maybe
• 48:35
Speaker 3: television has this as well, that you're not supposed to
• 48:37
Speaker 3: mention quote unquote the other guys. But there is also
• 48:39
Speaker 3: a gentleman here in Charleston who is on the radio
• 48:44
Speaker 3: on another station. I'll do the Johnny Carson way of
• 48:46
Speaker 3: doing things on another network. He's on another station, Kid Conley,
• 48:50
Speaker 3: who is celebrating a birthday today as well. He and
• 48:53
Speaker 3: I started in radio together at the long since defunct
• 48:59
Speaker 3: wlog Logan in nineteen eighty eight. He and I are
• 49:02
Speaker 3: born in the same day, in the same year. He
• 49:05
Speaker 3: is like two hours older than I am, and so
• 49:08
Speaker 3: you can catch him, you know, on another network. But
• 49:10
Speaker 3: I wanted to throw it out there that he's also
• 49:12
Speaker 3: celebrating their birthday Today's well, and he'll always always be
• 49:16
Speaker 3: two hours or so older than I am. Texas, these

Speaker 3: apologize to give money to Kirk's wife extortion anyone. I
• 49:49
Speaker 3: don't know that that is that that is the case.
• 49:53
Speaker 3: I did read an article last night where as part
• 49:56
Speaker 3: of the negotiations that someone suggested that Jimmy Kimmel would
• 50:05
Speaker 3: apologize and make a donation to the family or the
• 50:08
Speaker 3: cause or whatever. I don't know, we'll find out. I mean,
• 50:10
  Speaker 3: I won't be watching. I mean I may record it,
• 50:13
Speaker 3: but by the time look, by the way the new
• 50:15
Speaker 3: cycle works now, by the time I get up in
• 50:17
Speaker 3: the morning, I get up around five or so, by
• 50:19
Speaker 3: the time I get up, I will already know what
• 50:21
Speaker 3: he said without even watching it. So you know, that's
• 50:24
Speaker 3: just kind of kind of kind of where we are now.

• 50:57
Speaker 3: at that time of day and just nearly out my
• 51:00
Speaker 3: thing I was I was told and actually Bill Maher
• 51:05
Speaker 3: made reference to it that the View did not mention
• 51:10
Speaker 3: the entire Jimmy Kimble thing. They've they've weighed in on
• 51:14
Speaker 3: everything else, but there's something about the old saying of
• 51:17
Speaker 3: biting the hand that feeds you. I was told that
• 51:20
Speaker 3: I could be wrong. I was told. And Bill Maher
• 51:22
Speaker 3: also said it on his show last week that they
• 51:25
Speaker 3: did not mention the whole Jimmy Kimmel thing, which that's
• 51:28
Speaker 3: ad a little hypocritical. I mean to be honest with you,
• 51:31
Speaker 3: if you want my honest opinion about that. Kirk news
• 51:39
Speaker 3: is Old's is a texture. Kimball news is Old, trump
• 51:42

• 51:45
Speaker 3: want to say, just real quickly though, thank you to
• 51:49
Speaker 3: everybody who has reached out and told me happy birthday today.
• 51:53
Speaker 3: You know, I was born when I was very young
• 51:56
Speaker 3: at Fort Benning, Georgia, fifty five years ago, officially eight
• 52:00
Speaker 3: seventeen am from one. I'm told I don't remember much
• 52:02
Speaker 3: about that day, but that's what I was told. My
• 52:06
Speaker 3: dad was finishing up his stint in the army. Last
• 52:08
Speaker 3: stop was Fort Benning, and that's where I was born
• 52:12
Speaker 3: did and then we came back to West Virginia, which
• 52:15
Speaker 3: is where my parents are both from, in nineteen seventy
• 52:18
Speaker 3: one and been here ever since. I will say this,
• 52:22
Speaker 3: I am an incredibly blessed guy. As I said earlier
• 52:26
Speaker 3: in the show, fifty five years old, I am in
• 52:31
Speaker 3: great health. I mean, despite the fact that I you know,
• 52:34
Speaker 3: it looks like I'm carrying around of basketball sometimes, but
• 52:37
Speaker 3: I am in good health. My doctor says I'm a
• 52:41
Speaker 3: freak of nature because he can't quite figure it out.
• 52:44
Speaker 3: Millie Snyder says the same thing. I gonna have her
• 52:46
Speaker 3: on the show as well. But I am very very blessed.
• 52:50
  Speaker 3: I have a job that I absolutely love with a
• 52:53
Speaker 3: company that I absolutely love. I got great coworkers. I
• 52:56
Speaker 3: got a great wife of thirty three years affected of
• 53:00
Speaker 3: last year. Uh, and I'm last week. I'm sorry last week.
• 53:04
Speaker 3: And I hope to continue to be doing this for
• 53:07
Speaker 3: a long, long long time because I don't plan on
