- 0:10on hello hello hello hello okay okay just it's my fault okay if you poop
- 0:14again we should be good three two
- 0:19one I booped cuz I saw you do the Motions even though I couldn't hear you
- 0:23and then realized I made a mistake I should have said something anyway just
- 0:28because because that I don't know what I thought was going to happen but you what
- 0:32would have happened is that you would have had to have kept Faking It the
- 0:35entire show yeah halfway through I've got to be honest don't know what you're
- 0:39saying welcome to multiple
- 0:42nerdgasm with your hosts Matt Luke and Dan multiple
- 0:49nerdgasm your guide to All Things
- 0:56nerdy Commodore 64 I can see what he's highlighting roll I'm just going to talk
- 1:01about these things yeah in order the rust
- 1:06shooting uh I'm watching Finding Nemo oh yeah with my daughter this morning um
- 1:13that movie starts with some random fish having his whole family massacred it's
- 1:20it's brutal it's the opening of the film
- 1:23I've forgotten just how just how violent
- 1:27some of these Disney movies start right because when you were before you had a
- 1:32child you didn't care or notice no any fish could have any member of his family
- 1:38murdered and I just wouldn't care just don't care about fish now the other one
- 1:42I uh I always think of is up yeah beginning of up where he his wife dies
- 1:46is just same thing I mean there's a Disney curse where are the moms no no
- 1:52Disney girl has a mom Ariel's mom gone Belle's mom gone poon's mom gone
- 1:58Jasmine's mom gone where are these moms huh where is jasine Disney hates women
- 2:04yeah right as well as Disney likes young women just doesn't like old women wait
- 2:09wait is that a thing no no no I'm I'm just all right just and it based on what
- 2:12you've told me yeah sure sure sure sure yeah once they get to a certain age ride
- 2:16them out of the story but we always talk about we always talk like DiCaprio does
- 2:21you're going to draw her yeah um we always talk about how they
- 2:28don't make movies as scary as they did when we were kids but maybe they do yeah
- 2:32we just don't notice anymore oh it's different it's a little different but
- 2:36yeah well there were murdered moms in Disney when we were kids and there
- 2:40Disney's still murdering everyone but those aren't the ones we talk about when
- 2:43we talk about the movies that were more no we talk about Dark Crystal and how
- 2:47just [ __ ] nightmarish it is yeah exactly yeah so the one that I always
- 2:51think about is never- Ending Story right which I would actually probably put if I
- 2:56had to name my top five nostalgic great
- 3:00i' name the moon child it probably be
- 3:04Star Wars Raiders Goonies uh Back to the Future and Never
- 3:09Ending Story if I had to do five six to 10 would be a close you know a close
- 3:14second lot of five prob swap go in Labyrinth just cuz Labyrinth was very
- 3:18sure yeah on rotation that's probably number six for me yeah but still all
- 3:22good all good but something I learned recently about never- Ending Story cuz
- 3:26it was always the one that I held up as like two scary for kids like we could
- 3:32deal with it you know what I mean we could deal with a horse dying of sadness
- 3:36and like do you remember how that movie ended he was trying to save Fantasia
- 3:39from the nothing and in the end the nothing wins like Fantasia does get
- 3:44destroyed but then in the end there's like one grain of sand and she says if
- 3:48there's one grain of sand and one person remembers it we can rebuild like he
- 3:52doesn't save it there's just hope that they can one day maybe rebuild like
- 3:56that's Bleak that is Bleak [ __ ] for kids right oh but there were sequels stand so
- 4:00obviously it worked out all right yeah it wasn't a Never Ending Story there
- 4:04were there were two more and then it ended no it ended when those bullies got
- 4:07knocked in the trash yeah that's right um by an actual falor in real life was
- 4:13that was that really happening at what point did that yeah but anyway I learn
- 4:19you just you just don't know yeah don't ask decide for yourself Luke's not here
- 4:22this week so talk about movies like this or we want he's fine just putting that
- 4:27thought we mentioned that well is he out of all of us que land oh that's true I
- 4:31think people probably worry about him more than they worry about us when we
- 4:35say someone's not yeah if he's not here yeah true he's always hurting himself I
- 4:40uh learned something about Never Ending Story this week that blew my [ __ ]
- 4:43mind right did you know this the the never- Ending Story that
- 4:48you saw right and that I saw and that was the only version we had available to
- 4:53us yeah remake of a German movie that came out a few years earlier I didn't
- 5:00that and by remake I mean it used the same shots but was a completely new
- 5:07construction of an existing movie Never Ending Story is a German film right
- 5:12based on a German book and the Germans when they were getting funding for it
- 5:17thought it's probably in our best interest to get funding outside of
- 5:22Germany as well and they got some British and maybe American Funding too
- 5:25so they thought okay let's shoot this so that we can dub it into both English and
- 5:30German right right they then proceeded to make a film a German film in German
- 5:36in the language of Germany right yeah yeah yeah and uh you with me what is
- 5:42that language called I can never remember anyway and then uh released it it was a
- 5:47big hit and then years later like a couple of years later sold the rushes
- 5:52and the rights to an American Studio who then took those rushes and made their
- 5:56own movie out of it did their own Musical score made their own pop song to
- 6:02be the opening of it put it in the order they wanted and released it as a
- 6:06completely unique movie so when you watch the German version it's
- 6:11different it's different but the actors and scenes are the same is that what
- 6:15you're saying yeah yeah so even Bas when you think about it Bastian speaks
- 6:19English he speaks English but barely any of the other characters are actually
- 6:24speaking English if you look closely that's fascinating I didn't know that no
- 6:29neither did die and apparently CU you know we Turtle isn't speaking English
- 6:34that's right exactly that snail that you can ride yeah so if you watch behind the
- 6:41scenes like that guy who rides the snail is speaking German onet his dialogue is
- 6:45being recorded in German the little kid Bastion he's not he's an American actor
- 6:49cuz they were like when this eventually comes out in America they're going to
- 6:53they're going to need this guy to be speaking that's really interesting okay
- 6:56and evently and the reason I bring this up is because apparently even though we
- 7:02consider never any story to be a very dark film the German version is Bleak as
- 7:06[ __ ] it's a laugh right no apparently because you know how like our version
- 7:10has like quite uh like adventurous uplifting music apparently the German n
- 7:16[ __ ] that they've just got this like
- 7:23drone uhhuh uhhuh yeah right oh now I got to find it and learn to speak German
- 7:29I can just watch it yeah you you you'd roughly know what they're saying exactly
- 7:34yeah the nothing oh I wish I knew what that was in German that I could just
- 7:38parrot that back to you but I've got no idea what nothing is in German the N
- 7:42thing day
- 7:46nine uh great movie great movie is it a great movie you know what I I don't know
- 7:52I think it is no I think it is speaking of great movies I watched some great
- 7:56movies this week one on your list was on my list too Matt
- 8:00oh is that we watched the same movie sort of is that what you're saying one
- 8:03of them one of one of these three movies you've written down I also watched this
- 8:07week and when I say Dan watches some horror movies one of these movies is one
- 8:11of the ones I mentioned which one is it I need to know all right let me let me
- 8:15I'm like is the more the most recent one is it the most recent one no it isn't
- 8:20it's the second to most recent one I watched the nighthouse this week did
- 8:25[ __ ] off that's the most obscure one I know right yes that's very unusual and I
- 8:30was going to tell you all about it cuz it's so [ __ ] good listeners this is
- 8:34not a bit this is a a fairly obscure horror movie that I saw or Jenna found
- 8:39on Hulu no particular reason this is not secret place where I watch movies it's
- 8:43not a new film or anything all right no I was just looking for good horror
- 8:48movies this one looked good and it was good and this is one of the oh we could
- 8:53start here we could start by talking about this movie this is one of the few
- 8:55horror movies that I've watched recently that didn't [ __ ] itself at the end like
- 9:00didn't fall apart like right to the end I was still like this is awesome yeah I
- 9:04saw some reviews people on on the internet I looked up afterwards cuz and
- 9:09I people either didn't get it or or were complaining about certain things that
- 9:12I'm like oh I mean you have to be bit nitpicky there to worry about that but
- 9:16yeah I felt like it was strong all the way through and I said to Jenna I really
- 9:19hope this is going somewhere because it's
- 9:22very uh tense and ambient and it's not explaining itself which I like and
- 9:29unless we get to the end and it still hasn't done yeah doesn't have to explain
- 9:33everything but I still have to feel like oh I get it okay yeah and that's exactly
- 9:37what it did it went by the way here's why you were scared here's why you
- 9:41should still be scared after the movie is finished and still wondering about
- 9:45stuff but here just enough that you feel you haven't wasted your time me and it
- 9:49didn't explain things that it didn't really need to like certain things he
- 9:52was doing like you can you can almost come up with your own explanation
- 9:58for certain things like I don't want to spoil anything for the listeners
- 10:01but well we've not even told them anything remotely about this plot so
- 10:06okay so the M this point it's called The Nigh house and it's about a woman whose
- 10:10husband commits suicide out of the blue and she doesn't know why and she
- 10:16starts to suspect something strange was going on because she
- 10:22finds uh a photos of women she doesn't know who they are on his phone and they
- 10:26all look a bit like her mhm and then then she finds plans for the house he
- 10:33helped build the house and then she finds amongst his things plans for a
- 10:37reverse layout version of their house and she's like the [ __ ] is that about
- 10:42yeah and so he was an architect they lived in a house he designed and then
- 10:47somewhere there's a duplicate of their house in Reverse why and she starts
- 10:53having dreams that he's not dead well yeah it's a little weird
- 10:59it's hard to explain it's it's very um [ __ ] good it is good it's very
- 11:05surreal I guess it's actually quite hard to describe yeah but not in a way that
- 11:08like don't write this off as some Art House thing no it's a very good it's
- 11:14like how you would imagine a ghost story actually would pan out where you kind of
- 11:18like sure everything's just like a little bit it's it's not like blatant
- 11:22everything's just a bit off for quite a long time and you go it is weird but
- 11:26it's not like in the end the The Twist is ghosts did it like there's still a
- 11:31very human element to the story but it is still a supernatural horror right and
- 11:38I like it even I mean not to I don't want to it's not a spoiler I don't think
- 11:41but even I was thinking about it later and I was like you know what it could
- 11:43all have just been nothing oh yeah it does leave that there technically yeah
- 11:49as an option yeah he might have just been insane right and then all the other
- 11:54stuff she was just traumatized and it didn't actually even happen oh actually
- 11:59no um I've just realized that can't be quite true I think cuz there is does
- 12:05interact with other people who confirm so there is some stuff well you see you
- 12:08say that but actually you could write that cuz nothing happened to that person
- 12:11she interacts with oh good point good point so you could reasonably that's the
- 12:16only one yeah you're right that's the only one yeah um interesting sorry
- 12:19listeners we're being very vague but you should watch this film if you're like
- 12:23it's very creepy Thriller horror but you're right it is it is kind of like
- 12:27that um we would talk about Lovecraft just about every week but it is kind of
- 12:30like a Lovecraft story where they always start with um I'm insane and I'm going
- 12:35to kill myself after I write this but just listen to my crazy tale first like
- 12:41yeah yeah good atmosphere it's um from the director of I've forgotten what the
- 12:47other thing was when I looked it up I was like oh that guy oh okay I don't
- 12:51even know if I looked into this so let me have a look now David
- 12:57Brookner the ritual yes that's a [ __ ] amazing movie
- 13:01ritual is excellent um he did the hell ra very underrated which uh I not seen
- 13:07no but I was like oh I should watch it if he did it cuz his stuff's good and
- 13:10then some of these um the signal and those VHS horror movies you did those
- 13:16too so yeah yeah a few good things oh
- 13:19the signal yeah okay yes oh yes I remember that beyond the gates I think
- 13:25seen this it's like a lowbudget horror movie which one
- 13:29beyond the gates I think I might have seen that at some point I don't think I
- 13:32know but anyway yeah the night house highly recommended really good
- 13:35performances too like the actress is great yeah and in fact I was like I
- 13:40think I've seen her in other things and I looked back through and what I thought
- 13:43versus Godzilla she was in yeah and she's also she's well she's also in the
- 13:49prestige she's the wife that says you don't love me today some days you do
- 13:53love me and I was like [ __ ] off yeah right yeah okay yeah no she's great yeah
- 14:00she's excellent and I'm trying to think is anybody else in this that I knew I
- 14:05don't think so with barely any yeah small cast yeah small cast and small
- 14:10locations too I just thinking like this could have been a yeah the budget's
- 14:14quite tidy on this I bet was like oh yeah it's just it's just good like yeah
- 14:19yeah correct oh cool so you didn't watch any of these other ones I've seen one
- 14:24other one I haven't seen I know which one it's going to be one yeah you've not seen M3
- 14:30no I haven't seen m3an and I'm probably not going to watch
- 14:34it to be honest the reason we watched m3an or Megan or Megan if you're
- 14:40American Megan they would call it the reason we watched that is because one
- 14:45day lra got the remote for the Apple TV and just started clicking things and she
- 14:50was scrolling through movies got to Megan I don't think she chose it on
- 14:54purpose but she was just clicking on things scroll down click the like went
- 14:59down scrolled down highlighted the buy button and I like to buy the movie and
- 15:04and I said oh honey know and I stood up to get it and you know that's a mistake
- 15:07because she just start of pushing the button whatever I was going to do has to
- 15:11happen really quickly so she was like bye bye bye bye bye bye bye and then it
- 15:14came up and I was like are you sure you want to buy this and I was like no [ __ ] off
- 15:18no um so she didn't buy it but it did put the movie on my
- 15:23radar so it's a horror is movie I would have thought this might have been on
- 15:29your radar to begin with yeah I didn't know what it was to
- 15:34be honest until that happened I I I didn't realize that that was like a
- 15:38robot okay it's an Android either yeah I'll be honest I think I thought this
- 15:43was a James
- 15:46Juan he wrote the script yeah it is
- 15:50James Juan a verse yeah yeah so this
- 15:54movie is about a uh I guess she's a programmer of sorts she she builds
- 16:01robots a robotic engineer who makes toys for kids she's got this side project
- 16:07that's like a a robot it's like a you know an Android I guess to like be
- 16:12friends with kids and uh and then she
- 16:16because her her sister and her brother-in-law are killed in an accident
- 16:21and she's the legal becomes the legal guardian of her niece and she's a she's
- 16:25a nerd robotic engineer doesn't know how to look after kids or anything like that
- 16:28it's a whole situ situation so she figures well I'll just get this robot
- 16:32that I made to look after her yeah she programmed the robot right yeah but it's
- 16:38one of it's it's one of those movies where the robot is just it's [ __ ]
- 16:43Skynet from the GetGo sure like the robot smarter than anybody else in this
- 16:47movie just she just magically managed to do that which is whatever at least yeah
- 16:52yeah they said that's how aced it and M
- 16:56yeah exactly yeah oh this movie's robots a genius got it no worries yeah I'll try
- 17:01not to think about it too much but there were a few things where they'd say oh
- 17:05it's because of this and I was like [ __ ] off all right
- 17:08whatever yeah that's ridiculous fine fine yeah so anyway the the the robot
- 17:15prioritizes the little girl over a lot of other stuff which becomes a problem
- 17:20and and yeah sure uh it's pretty good
- 17:23it's a okay PG-13 for sure horror movie yeah like
- 17:30I don't think there's any Gore or anything in it of any does the robot
- 17:34start to kill is that what happens yes oh you know what there is Gore in it and
- 17:39it's actually quite interesting I don't want to spoil it because it's just an
- 17:43interesting choice they they don't show one thing but they do show something
- 17:49else that I was like [ __ ] that's an interesting decision to not show this
- 17:53fly I yeah I don't know how to say it without spoiling it but like is it a
- 17:59spoiler I mean does anyone care if I spoil this movie I suppose not all right
- 18:03so at one point the the the the the robot kills a dog right but you don't
- 18:08see any of that you just kind of hear it off screen and another Scene It chases
- 18:12this kid through the woods and he runs out of the road gets hit by a [ __ ]
- 18:15car you see that in all its gory detail Jesus and I was like sorry so we're not
- 18:20allowed to see the dog get killed but we can watch this kid be run over by a car that's
- 18:24interesting um when I made my um
- 18:28notorious [ __ ] TV comedy in Singapore um where the sensors made us remove the
- 18:34punch line for pretty much all the jokes um there was one scene where a dog gets
- 18:40hit by a car and they made us remove it and they made us they made us cut away I
- 18:44wonder if for some reason it was some silly thing like that where they were
- 18:47like we can't see the we didn't want to show the or or the way they shot the dog
- 18:50was particularly bad or something or the way we shot it was that we had a dog we
- 18:54had the camera locked off we had the dog sitting in the middle of the road and we
- 18:57we paused we removed the then we put a watermelon where the dog
- 19:01was and then had a car come and actually run over the watermelon so when you cut
- 19:05it together it just looks like the dog just exploded into a red [ __ ] ppy
- 19:09mess it was awesome it would have been really good and really funny too but uh
- 19:15yeah right yeah so it's just an interesting like I guess technically you
- 19:19don't see the kid get hit but you definitely see the aftermath I'm trying
- 19:21to think back my my memory my brain might have done some of the work there
- 19:25for them it's just definitely more graphic in that case than it is the the
- 19:29dog which right right yeah and in the middle of a what otherwi PG movie yeah
- 19:34right yeah I think that is the most graphic thing in the movie is just that
- 19:38so but uh it's fairly you know predictable and you know we picked what
- 19:43was going to happen at the end when something got set up in the at the
- 19:46beginning we were like oh yeah okay that's going to come up again and it did
- 19:50I see it you're W in a movie script yeah and but you know it was enjoyable yeah
- 19:56fair enough it's all it needs to do really I think that's it probably aimed
- 19:59to do it's for just have you enjoy it the next movie I'm not sure I'd say was
- 20:04enjoyable as such it was very good yeah it's excellent but [ __ ] me yeah you
- 20:09wouldn't go oh yeah I love this it's you want you want to watch a funny movie
- 20:15Midsummer [ __ ] hell yeah yeah a movie that does only at the end of the movie
- 20:20you go so what where are we now with this yeah yeah what is what's she going
- 20:25how do I feel about it and yeah how did I feel about any of this really other
- 20:30than gross yeah so listens if you haven't seen Midsummer I don't know
- 20:34whether you should watch it it depends mids M sorry mid somar it's about
- 20:40actually sort of similar setup it's about a girl who's a little different
- 20:47her sister murder suicides herself and her parents and she's distraught so her
- 20:53boyfriend who was gon to dump her takes her on a trip to Sweden instead yeah
- 20:57yeah because it doesn't it's relevant but it doesn't really come up no like as
- 21:03such again no and it would have been the same amount of horror if that hadn't
- 21:08been a thing yeah it's almost unnecessary that that happened yeah like
- 21:12it's it's it's almost like they went should we put in just one more horrific
- 21:16thing yeah or like he just wrote it like like chronologically from the beginning
- 21:21and then got lost in what happened after that and then forgot oh wait a minute
- 21:25yeah that's right this horrible thing happened to her at the beginning that I've
- 21:29to be you the movie it is somewhat relevant but anyway yes she goes to
- 21:34Sweden to this town that it's not a town like a village that's apparently famous
- 21:40but like I'm baffled by how it can be famous for what goes on there in this
- 21:44movie like people know do people know about this or not we're completely cool
- 21:50with it yeah yeah and it's basically like they're Vikings and they do Viking
- 21:56things like you know like in yeah Norman they throw themselves off a cliff when
- 22:01they get too old and stuff like that and it's yeah it gets worse from there
- 22:04although Norman spoilers they don't well that's yeah it's the opening scene of
- 22:10the first season so not really a spoiler I think it's supposed to be a surprise
- 22:14in mid somar when that happens but as soon as they said I think at one point
- 22:20they depict all the various stages of life and then it says he says oh you
- 22:24know from this age to this age this age to this age and then from this age to 70
- 22:28you you do this and someone says oh what do you do when you get to 70 and he goes
- 22:33and I said oh yeah they throw you off a cliff and then cut to 10 minutes later
- 22:37in the movie yeah yeah quite uh quite
- 22:41viscerally brutal I did not expect yeah watermelons if you've got a
- 22:47weak stomach don't watch it anyway it's and like I said things go downhill from
- 22:51there and it's quite subtle in Parts like like that scene not subtle right
- 22:57very violent and and and brutal other things more subtle like it shows you
- 23:02that artwork she says oh what's this and they say it's a love story and it just
- 23:06pans along it and you can kind of just take it in and you can see what's
- 23:09happening in there is it's some the girl's performing some kind of love
- 23:13spell and she puts pubes and her some of her blood in the drink and like and then
- 23:19you just see that go past and you go that's a bit weird and then later on the
- 23:23girl's boyfriend finds a pube in his food and they don't comment on it like
- 23:28that it's just you go oh okay and and then his drinks a different color to the
- 23:33others stuff like that it's like okay now this is also by the same guys that
- 23:39made other stuff too if hereditary which I didn't like as much AR which I didn't
- 23:46like as much as everyone I like quite a lot yeah I think uh maybe I just watched
- 23:53it on a bad day but I just I just never quite that also
- 23:59right the there's a very famous scene in hereditary which again yes both of these
- 24:03movies are quite old so I'm not too worried about spoilers but there's a
- 24:06scene where the sister's you see the sister's head on the side of the road
- 24:09yeah right it's or you see it sticking the head out the window and then it gets
- 24:13yes cut off but then they have just a graphic shot of it on the side of thead
- 24:17lat with all the bugs on it and everything like that for no good
- 24:21reason yeah true you didn't need to see that it wasn't like what happened to her
- 24:25head we you knew what happened yeah yeah but where's the head I see body with no
- 24:29head but where's the head yeah so again it just so there's that but then also a
- 24:34bunch of other subtle stuff in that movie so oh interesting but that was one
- 24:39of the movies though that I thought the ending let me down a bit I just by the
- 24:45time it ended I was like uh I don't know there was a cult in the shed or
- 24:51something yeah it just no I can't remember I remember I like I it got it I
- 24:56went along with it and yeah I think maybe I just something early on pissed
- 25:01me off and then I didn't go along with it but you you got to go along with it
- 25:04or you you know that's every movie but I watched another horror movie this week
- 25:09that I'd seen only once when it first came out and then not again and
- 25:14remembered not really liking it or just thinking that it didn't lead up to the
- 25:18hype and then for the second time only this week I went back and watched The
- 25:22Blair Witch Project oh yeah and I can just say having watched this now 20 odd
- 25:28years after it came out this is a [ __ ] excellent movie yeah I'm talking
- 25:33the first one the Blair Witch Project found footage I mean aside from it being
- 25:39largely improvised from what I recall completely improvised so essentially
- 25:43what happened was that the two guys that directed it had kind of plotted out what
- 25:48they wanted to happen and then didn't tell the actors and then put the actors
- 25:52in the bush and just said keep trying to get to this place and film each other
- 25:57doing it have conversations and stuff here's who your characters are and then
- 26:01occasionally we're going to give you motivations that will only tell one of
- 26:06you what the motivation what their character's motivation is so it's almost
- 26:10like a drama game you know so one gets told you've got to lose the map and and
- 26:14then but don't tell the others that you've lost the map for example and then
- 26:18one you know stuff like that so it was yeah largely improvised but I think it
- 26:23was the hype of this movie that just destroyed it for me because like sure
- 26:27when it first came out it was marketed as a documentary more or less you know
- 26:31but I think I I was annoyed that people thought it was real but I I mean in
- 26:35hindsight like we were pretty much told it was so I guess I I shouldn't have
- 26:39been too harsh on it you know the people that bought into it yeah and as a
- 26:43marketing machine it was it was impressive in and of itself but just
- 26:48watching it now just as a movie it's very good it's tense you don't know
- 26:52what's going on the ending is [ __ ] terrifying and
- 26:58also there's guy standing in the corner Dan I don't know [ __ ] man that is so
- 27:03good because it's a call back to just one throwaway line at the start of the
- 27:07film like I got to watch it and it is it's very good and and again it's one of
- 27:12those things where you're like is it a witch or is it some [ __ ] creepy dude
- 27:16who lives in the woods or is it yeah it's it's it's very good I I
- 27:21really like I I remember the law of it better than I remember the film yeah
- 27:25yeah no the film is very good and the um evidentally they also if you went to
- 27:31IMDb in the kind of months leading up to this movie coming out and you looked up
- 27:36any the actors it literally said missing presumed dead like to the point where
- 27:42apparently their parents were getting calls from like old friends and
- 27:46relatives go I'm so sorry about what happened I mean this it was the movie
- 27:51that made all the fan footage movies like this was there weren't any before
- 27:55this and then now everything everything for years everything was a [ __ ] found
- 27:59footage movie yeah well and and the sequel to the blue witch which was not
- 28:05and was from memory was quite good I
- 28:09still liked the second one actually yeah
- 28:12yeah do the same thing yeah mirax turned this down evidently and then felt so
- 28:19[ __ ] about it they went and made uh paranormal activity which is you know
- 28:24just their their equivalent of a found footage movie yeah yeah as far as I know
- 28:28there's this great episode of Dawson's Creek where on the the Dawson's Creek
- 28:34crew who you know I don't know if you ever watched much Dawson's Creek but the
- 28:38whole thing is that Dawson wanted to be a film director right that was kind of
- 28:42his stick so they go to this wherever they filmed uh huh Blair Witch to to
- 28:48make a documentary about the phenomenon of Blair Witch and as they get there
- 28:52they get into this guy's boat and they're like oh hey dude can we film you
- 28:56for a documentary we're making about the Blair Witch and the guy in the boat
- 28:59takes out a camera he go can I film you for the documentary I'm making about
- 29:03idiots who come here to documentaries about the
- 29:07blue that's pretty good yeah
- 29:10yeah put it back on the list man I don't remember but I remember at the time
- 29:16thinking it was okay but I don't know if you can go back to it
- 29:19now I've got I got some other horror movies on my list uh that I've got lined
- 29:23up I've got X and pearl lined up cuz I haven't seen those yet do it both exellent
- 29:28very different but uh Ty West makes good movies and then he did terrifier as well
- 29:34right one and two he's got another one coming out also with uh Mia go he isn't
- 29:39he yeah [ __ ] hell just keeps making him he does yeah and but he's really
- 29:45come into his own in the last couple like X and pearl are like kind of their
- 29:48own thing different I mean like he's like just keeps making them and making
- 29:52him like he's not slowing down or anything you know what I mean oh yeah I
- 29:55mean he doesn't spend much money on him either from what I can tell
- 29:59cuz I remember terfy too came out there's a lot of hype about it and now
- 30:01he's he's already doing got another one coming out it's like all right cool no
- 30:05he's good both of those are good you'll like those cool and uh there's a couple
- 30:10of Scream movies I got to catch up on because the new ones coming out yeah I
- 30:13know man the Scream movies are such a mixed bag the first two I rate I'll
- 30:18probably forget to be honest it's just that they're coming the new ones coming
- 30:21out so I keep seeing stuff about it I'm like oh yeah the problem is the problem
- 30:25is they do continue enough that you if you're going to watch any you do owe it
- 30:29to yourself to have caught up yeah the thing that annoys me now is when you
- 30:33look at cuz I was like what what have I missed how many are there and I've
- 30:37missed two or maybe even just one I'm not sure if I've seen number four I have
- 30:42to double check but it goes four is [ __ ] garbage it goes scream scream
- 30:48two scream three scream four mhm scream
- 30:52scream yeah Scream
- 30:55Six okay guys what yeah yeah what was that there was a couple of years ago
- 31:01there was definitely a trend in just calling remake SL sequels the same name
- 31:07which I found bizarre and I'm glad they're moving away from that it's what
- 31:12if it's like a remake or reboot I think it's probably fine but if it's just the
- 31:17next one what are you doing yeah it's just [ __ ] confusing Yeah well yeah
- 31:24this was kind of a soft anyway scream not the not the original one the the
- 31:29more recent film called that is the continuation of the
- 31:33story that has the characters and actors from the first one in it so it's no
- 31:37one's going to be confused about the fact that it's like like why did you not
- 31:40just call it screen five and they reference things that have happened it's not
- 31:44like mind you though it's the same story line so it is kind of a soft reboot but
- 31:49they all kind of are yeah like yeah and I guess I haven't seen it maybe they
- 31:55were trying to do something clever cuz that's what scream was West CRA trying
- 31:58to do something clever succeeded yeah yeah introverted that's not what I meant to say
- 32:04um subverting int introspect subersive oh introspective yeah yeah yeah yeah
- 32:10right he was he was trying to it was a comment films itself was a horror movie
- 32:14about horror movies you know yeah yes and especially since West Craven was one
- 32:19of the pioneers of the slashers genre
- 32:23yes and and here he is parodying it yeah and wildly successful in my opinion like
- 32:29it's just such a also he is notorious for his films just having sequels after
- 32:35sequels after sequels so Scream 2 was also clever because it parody horror
- 32:39film sequels yeah yes and then he got very depressed about what happened after
- 32:44that with all the others cuz he's like this is not what I wanted yeah that's
- 32:49right yeah so yeah they're on the list and then I don't know what else some
- 32:54other stuff probably yeah going to be so no that's on the list I got to watch
- 33:00that that's one of the whest kids you know guys wrote directed that to yeah
- 33:05yeah that's right one of the ones that's still alive correct
- 33:10y um watch that I like that very well however I have recommended that to
- 33:15people who have literally rang me afterwards and going I'm never taking
- 33:19film recommendations from you again really so but I I think you'll like it I
- 33:25liked it and I thought the ending was good but what do I know I do know it's been
- 33:32hard to avoid because it was a kind of a sleeper hit so I do know that it I don't
- 33:36want to spoil anything for listeners it's not spoiler I don't even know
- 33:38anything about it I just know that it changes what it
- 33:42is that changes what you think it is
- 33:46okay all right sure yeah yeah okay in a in a in a I'll watch it it it's it
- 33:52doesn't try to be too clever but what it does do it does well okay all right
- 33:57excellent I I've really liked it I I can't I can't imagine you not liking
- 34:01this all right we'll find out in oh we will 2 3 weeks when I get back cuz I'm
- 34:06not going to watch that without Jenna that's what the problem is all these
- 34:08movies I'm listing now I can't I have to watch them with Jenna cuz otherwise
- 34:12that's you know yeah so I'm funny H loves the idea of horror movies but
- 34:17doesn't like to watch them right so she'll start watching them and then
- 34:22she'll either start going on Wikipedia halfway through to find out how it ends
- 34:27which I hate because somehow her knowing what happens transfers the knowledge to
- 34:32me I'm like sure you'll ruin it she like I won't say anything but then she'll go
- 34:37oh and then I'm like oh well now I know there's a Twist so now I'm going to be
- 34:40looking for a [ __ ] twist yeah or she's just not reacting to things and
- 34:44you go it's not yeah exactly exactly right so [ __ ] yeah oh cool I trying
- 34:50think I think I was going to say if I watched anything else actually that's
- 34:52quite a lot of stuff for me to have watched since the last episode to be
- 34:56honest I don't know what I don't know how that happened last episode of what
- 34:59sorry of this show I don't I've watched three fils in the last week that's very
- 35:03unusual for me oh sure yeah yeah so I guess we got lism going to bed
- 35:10successfully I guess yeah yeah um we don't oh do we have follow-up we have
- 35:15some sort of follow-up yeah so this is interesting because we talked two weeks
- 35:21ago about how the roll dial books were being censored and how everyone's angry
- 35:25and then we we heard about how the James Bond books are being censored and half
- 35:30the people are angry and half the people are angry that they're not being
- 35:32censored enough and then I read this week that the Goosebumps books are going
- 35:36to be censored right but the difference here is it's the author of Goosebumps
- 35:43who's decided to censor them interesting what's he censoring he's just going to
- 35:47update them for the times he's just going to take out updated references
- 35:51he's just going to polish bit oh okay similar things I think to the uh roll di
- 35:58buns where it's like oh you know if you know you don't call a kid fat anymore
- 36:02and you don't tell a girl that she's probably going to grow up secretary well
- 36:06I guess it depends right because if you talk those things yes or is he talking
- 36:11more like oh he's talking about you know putting a cassette in the tape player
- 36:15and kids these days if they read the book and like the [ __ ] is this guy
- 36:18talking about yeah I what cassette tape like that's true yeah like that kind of
- 36:23stuff I guess you could update you wanted to be able to just sell these
- 36:26books add infinite item to kids well okay you have to change them
- 36:31forever well so a listener listener Hannah sent in an article this week
- 36:37pointing out that not only do Publishers have the right but they've also got a
- 36:42kind of a responsibility to do exactly what you've just described if they feel
- 36:47that would keep the book in the kind of
- 36:51public awareness so if if if your book is still perfectly relevant except that
- 36:57kids these days don't know what a tape player is and you write CD player
- 37:02instead yes don't write in I'm aware CDs are all obsolete but whatever the
- 37:06equivalent of that might be um and that
- 37:09that happens far more than you even suspect because it just I think in
- 37:15particular for a kids book that's probably more important as well because
- 37:20if you're an adult reading a book you're probably more likely to go oh that's
- 37:24probably some technology I've not heard of and you'll figure it out like like
- 37:28Old stepen King almost certainly have things that I was like the [ __ ] is he
- 37:32talking about and then I just figured it out yeah yeah a good example a book I my
- 37:39daughter has is about the woman who ate the fly and then she swallows a spider
- 37:44to eat the fly and then she swallows a [ __ ] cat to eat that and then a and
- 37:48by the end she eats a horse we had that when I was a kid and she was dead by the
- 37:53end of it yeah oh yeah yeah she died no she doesn't die anymore Matt no she
- 37:57vomits she vomits all the animals out she's fine and they're all fine
- 38:02disgusting yeah no she died when I was a kid she's [ __ ] dead yeah yeah yeah in
- 38:07fact trying cover this swallows a horse she's dead of course it was like yeah of
- 38:13course she's dead you can't eat this kind of animal and that was the lesson
- 38:16don't eat a horse ho just stop yeah don't even eat the [ __ ] spider as far as I'm
- 38:22concerned none of the animals on this list yeah that's this list they're are
- 38:27delicious animals yeah they've got to be prepared though kids you can't just
- 38:32shove a pig in there yeah they've got to be prepared you've got to tell them in
- 38:36advance that they're going to be eaten yeah yeah okay evidently and and you're
- 38:40a vegetarian so you might appreciate this story you might already know it but
- 38:44um somebody that I knew who worked kind of on farms and stuff told me once that
- 38:49they have this there was a name for it which I forget but they keep one cow
- 38:54alive when they take cows off to the abire to be slaughtered right because
- 39:00cows are smart enough to know that if all the cows go and none of them come back
- 39:06so fine yeah so what they do is they bring all the cows in they take 99% of
- 39:11them off to be slaughtered and then they take one back to just go it's fine it's
- 39:15just a car ride guys he's just standing there like staring into the distance B
- 39:19Bob you're all right mate I don't want to talk about it he all right talk about
- 39:22it where's everyone else and the farmer goes Bob you [ __ ] can tell him
- 39:27everything's fine or your next mate that's right yeah but is it always like
- 39:33is next time also Bob that comes back again or does Bob get done that time
- 39:38yeah maybe well I I don't know I forgot to ask any follow-up questions cuz I
- 39:42just found it kind of like terrifyingly just terrifying in some
- 39:48existential way that the be I'm not going to kill you I want you to tell all
- 39:53your friends about me I want you to tell all your friends about me
- 39:58I'm beef man yeah that yeah I didn't know that that
- 40:03is I mean yeah that surpr me here's here's a funny little bit of of of
- 40:08trivia I watched recently um a
- 40:12comparison of all the video game tie-ins
- 40:16for the 1989 Batman movie right so just
- 40:20yeah so there ocean did a bunch for the
- 40:23um uh 8 and 16 bit computer scene and then and um Japanese company did The
- 40:30Seer and and Nintendo ones right yeah pretty different very different right
- 40:36with because they're not they're not even no one person and they were being
- 40:40developed when I was younger I was I was confused because the one I had my ComEd
- 40:4364 was what I knew and then I'd play one at my friend's house and I was like the
- 40:46[ __ ] is this yeah yeah yeah yeah same yeah um I had the Amega version um quite
- 40:52Sim yeah yeah they were very similar both bi ocean but um the was it ficon is
- 40:58that what the Japanese nintend system yeah yeah so in the ficon version
- 41:04there's this one cut scene where Batman grabs some dude and says where's the
- 41:09Joker and the guy goes oh Gotham City
- 41:12and Batman goes Gotham City where's that like implying that Batman is not from
- 41:18Gotham City all right and uh is Oliver Harper who does the the comparison he's
- 41:24like are they implying that like he's like this guy can't have known a single
- 41:28thing about Batman if he's writing in that Batman is confused by the phrase Gotham
- 41:34City the Joker lies yeah that's right yeah he's gotten that far but it's not
- 41:38common knowledge he had to ask someone no well no one knows who Batman even is
- 41:42Dan how's he supposed to know this poor guy fair fair y that's
- 41:49funny I was um be killed they say he drinks blood I watched a video oh no
- 41:53there a video no an article I read about the um the the the the comic book tie-in
- 41:58for the Batman movie and how they were basically working down to the wire on
- 42:04the comic book while the movie was being shot and the movie was being changed and
- 42:08the movie got changed after the comic book was locked and they were like we
- 42:11can't [ __ ] change it anymore it's not possible it's being colored in right now
- 42:16so so there's discrepancies in that there are some scenes in uh in the comic
- 42:22book that aren't in the movie anymore and some scenes play out quite
- 42:24differently and there's a one thing in particular is and I guess it is a bit unclear what
- 42:31is it that makes the Joker have the smile like do you know do you know what
- 42:36it's supposed to be like cuz I listen you seen this is the the think I assumed
- 42:42that it was the botched plastic surgery while he was being fixed up coming out
- 42:48of the toxic waste no cuz what happens is this is this is in the 1989 Tim bur
- 42:53Batman movie listeners Jack Napier shoots eart right Batman
- 42:59yes yeah bounces off his well it does look like the bullet goes through his
- 43:04cheeks that's what I always thought that's not what it's supposed to be the
- 43:07bullet and and if you watch it with this knowledge you can see that's kind of
- 43:11what they're going for the bullet Ricochet off Batman's Gauntlet hits the
- 43:15control panel and the glass severs the nerves in his face oh I see yeah and
- 43:22then he falls into the the toxic waste and it bleaches his skin and col and he
- 43:28BEC a joker but it's just yeah anyway it's justes that even in the comic book
- 43:32it's very clear that that's what's happening yeah right film it's a little
- 43:37more probably because the comic book's working off the script which explicitly
- 43:40States glass flies out from the and the Joker goes oh the glass has severed the
- 43:45nerves in my face then when he falls in which Jack nichon just refused to say
- 43:50the lines ridiculous well he did refuse to be called anything but Jack is that
- 43:54true I believe that's true but now that I've said it surely there was a Jack
- 43:59Napier in the comics or did that make up that name just for the movie well the
- 44:03Joker didn't have an origin I don't think this doesn't have one set origin
- 44:07but I think there's been oh someone's someone's yelling at their probably
- 44:11iPhone right now yeah yeah don't don't bother doing that send us an email
- 44:15that's probably the best way to get our attention it's unlikely we're within ear
- 44:18we can't hear you yeah it's very unlikely I had a novelization as the as
- 44:23always [ __ ] when I was a kid I love noiz the shelf behind me Dan yeah so I also
- 44:28by Sam ham yes it is by Sam ham yeah but mine I had the audio book on cassette
- 44:35tape just to bring this back right oh yeah read by a cassette tape read by
- 44:39Rody McDow of all people [ __ ] off [ __ ] yeah so if you don't know who Rod mcdal
- 44:45is you probably know him from Planet of the Apes or you might know him as
- 44:50Bookworm from the 1960s Batman on a
- 44:54minute Ry McDow I've got to find this if
- 44:58it exists yeah hold on I got to find it too now that I Ry
- 45:03McDow Batman andless so it just brings out Bookworm
- 45:08oh my God eBay Rod McDow reads Batman on
- 45:13cassette still it's on cassette it's $15 oh get it how would you play it how
- 45:19would you even play it uh the only cassette tape thing I have is my com 64
- 45:24one and I don't think that's going to work that is man see
- 45:27phenomenal I didn't know that was a thing that's ridiculous who the [ __ ] was
- 45:32like who can we get to read this can we do you think we can get Ry McDow do you
- 45:35think he's up for it yeah a moon we yeah I mean maybe if he just [ __ ] loves
- 45:42Batman and just wants to be part which of the two Ronn ronnes is McDow
- 45:47again yeah that's right listeners if you don't know what The Two Ronnies is good
- 45:52for you I guess SK show I went I told you I went into a who Ronnie's [ __ ]
- 45:58rabbit hole about 3 weeks ago did you I this is they they are writing sketches
- 46:04in the 60s or whenever this was 1971 70s that I'm funnier than anything
- 46:11they've got this one called four candles right the guy comes in and he's like uh
- 46:17yeah like four candles please and he's like yeah right get some gets four
- 46:21candles brings them out he's like n four candles handles for Forks this goes on
- 46:26for 10 minutes as he says things that sound like other things it's amazing
- 46:31listeners go to YouTube Type in four candles and just [ __ ] enjoy enjoy
- 46:36yourself there's one where they have you know that show Mastermind where they
- 46:40just it's one person in a chair and they just ask him questions yeah quiz one
- 46:43dude's got this weird thing where he only answers the question you asked him
- 46:48before right so the previous he answers the previous question when you ask him
- 46:52another question so he's like um what's your name and he's like fine thanks is
- 46:57like and how are you today and he's like Jim so like he just but then the way
- 47:01that it escalates it starts getting really funny because the questions start
- 47:07having relevance to the last questions I'm explaining it badly go to [ __ ]
- 47:11seriously Two Ronnies are way funnier than you remember them being all right
- 47:15I'll check it out and then I'll listen to him read Batman I don't I can't
- 47:20imagine clear rdy McDow is not one of The Two Ronnies I'm the um I'm confused
- 47:27no Rod mcdal is from oh my God you're right I've just Googled him I'm like oh
- 47:31that guy yeah he's [ __ ] Cornelius
- 47:36from uh right fright night he's he's the
- 47:39guy from Fright Night um yes he is yeah
- 47:46right well I feel like a fool no no I thought you were doing a bit it works it
- 47:51works just dumb no I mean there's no reason anyone should know Rod McDale or the two rodes
- 47:58but it's it's all worth it but seriously get the buy this [ __ ] Batman tape man
- 48:04you got to you got to buy it all right for the for the simple fact that I had
- 48:09forgotten do you remember this Batman was so popular in
- 48:151989 that just black background and that
- 48:20[ __ ] bat symbol logo was on everything oh yeah and I I had to buy it
- 48:26like I had to buy anything that had that [ __ ] Insignia on it all right I'm
- 48:31going to put this in the show notes we don't need to buy it because it's in the
- 48:35spreadsheet down the bottom no way oh my
- 48:39God Batman read by Rod McDow just listen just play that first one second of it
- 48:45just to listen and you'll still think to yourself why him I often wondered if I
- 48:51was related to Sam ham when I was a kid maybe you are same surname listeners in
- 48:55case for some reason you don't know my surname I'm not oh I mean I don't think
- 49:02so so my my family name on my mom's side is Stevenson and my grandfather always
- 49:08told us that great great-grandfather was Robert Le Stevenson and I I can't
- 49:13disprove that but I'm fairly certain it's not true I hope it's true
- 49:19but yeah I heard I heard a journalist I heard a journalist the other day say a
- 49:23phrase it was a fact too good to check and I was like I love
- 49:29that we have a lot of those on this show we do yeah it's a story of my life I'm
- 49:34like good enough for me good enough for me that headline I don't want to read
- 49:37the rest of the article just in case yeah oh man so you know we talk about we
- 49:43talk about how headlines are just [ __ ] lies these days right yes yep
- 49:48like misleading to the point of just being liar I saw one that absolutely
- 49:53Takes the Cake and I wanted toz not only do they not fact check they
- 49:58embellish what they do what they just heard anyway we can talk about how what how
- 50:04what what are we looking at here all right we got a bit of time um a little
- 50:08bit of Star Wars news do we want to put Star Wars news on the table Star Wars
- 50:12news yeah yeah let's do some Star Wars news I mean I [ __ ] hate Star Wars but
- 50:16we're not going to have a geek of the week this week obviously because Luke's
- 50:18not here so might as well have some Star Wars news instead now you know what I
- 50:22I'm going to put a geek in the weekend because I I need to I need to say this
- 50:25and Luke know who it is and so I'm just going to say it anyway mat do you know
- 50:29who Topo is no Topo is an Israeli actor most famous for playing tevia the
- 50:36Milkman in Fiddler on the Roof he died
- 50:39this week aged 89 it makes me sad he was also in Flash Gordon he was also one of
- 50:45the Bond movies he's in Flash Gordon which I like yeah and he died and uh I'm
- 50:51sad because uh he's great of course Han
- 50:55zakov yeah yeah he was the yeah the doctor he's got a very deep
- 51:00voice what a stupid movie that I love
- 51:03Yeah movie stupid but man I
- 51:07just yeah yeah enjoyable as [ __ ] when you're a kid it just couldn't cast Max
- 51:13von sidow as as Ming anymore could you no you couldn't you couldn't cast a
- 51:19white man as a well he's not I guess the thing is he's not not just Scandinavian
- 51:24he's as white as you could possibly but if these days they' go well Ming's
- 51:28not Asian he's from another planet yeah Ming and why does he to ch's
- 51:34hat yeah why is he called Ming why he why is he got that makeup on to look
- 51:39like that yeah that's right yeah true
- 51:42true um yeah that's up there with uh
- 51:47Mickey Mickey's his name Mickey uh
- 51:51breakfast at Tiffany yeah but also the only bad thing about that movie and the
- 51:56director yeah I think said if he could go back and do anything
- 52:01you'd make it exactly the same but he just wouldn't have that in there yeah
- 52:05and the thing is you could probably just edit that out now like I don't know why
- 52:09they don't to be honest it's pointless there's no point to that character being
- 52:12in that movie no it's just a bit of listeners if you don't know a it just in
- 52:18the same block of flats as the two lead characters is a Japanese photographer
- 52:24and he's a [ __ ] idiot and he played by a [ __ ] white
- 52:30American actor who just does it so over the top that it couldn't possibly have
- 52:37not been offensive at the time it's incredibly racist yeah like there's
- 52:43nothing redeeming about it like I said doesn't even need to be in there it's
- 52:46almost like they're like cuz the movie is not a comedy it's a no it's a little
- 52:51funny in other parts but it's not not a comedy certainly not that kind of Comedy
- 52:54it's just such a weird scene and any there's what like two or three moments
- 53:00that he's in it's like why is that there yeah yeah I mean then there's I mean
- 53:06there's Yu Brena who played the King of Siam in The King and I who's a [ __ ]
- 53:13Russian guy with Gypsy background I don't know why they thought he would be
- 53:18good for that but he doesn't play it for Laughs so I think you mean Romani Dan I
- 53:23think we call him the Romani now yeah that's that is true no I call
- 53:28them Star Wars news Star Wars news Star Wars news Star Wars news Star Wars news
- 53:34so we've got some Star Wars news Lucas film have allegedly we're going to find
- 53:38out a bunch more stuff about any of this garbage at the uh Star Wars celebration
- 53:43event coming up very soon y I'm sure they'll actually officially say things
- 53:47but the rumors right now are that they've just shed most of those movies we've been
- 53:51talking about yeah for yeah the last three or four years whatever since last
- 53:56uh rise of Skywalker came out except the only one that they're still apparently
- 54:00working on is the Tao yti one which they've confirmed he will star in which
- 54:05as if we didn't know that yeah because he always just writes movies for himself to be
- 54:10in yeah and why wouldn't you I suppose because I'm not complaining I I enjoy by
- 54:16TD movie as much as anyone so yeah now is this the one that this is
- 54:22not the one where lindeloff was involved right there was a there was a lindeloff script
- 54:26that's I think that's gone there was one patty Jenkins one is done um there was
- 54:31one by have they finally acknowledged that Ryan Johnson is not getting his
- 54:36Trilogy didn't get a mention I feel like at this point they probably don't need
- 54:40to yeah fair enough I don't think that's happening um oh Kevin feige from Marvel
- 54:47was apparently going to do one that's shoved as well holy [ __ ] wow they don't
- 54:51even trust him well man I mean everyone everyone hated that JJ Abram was that
- 54:56they were banking on just bringing it home without pissing anyone off what a
- 55:02disaster that whole thing was yeah so not only that they've uh they're being
- 55:07sued Now by one of The Producers they hired for the uh the series The acolyte
- 55:14which is set during the high Republic which is that new era like the before
- 55:18anything we've seen mhm you know it's it's set in the past um apparently they
- 55:24hired this this woman to be producer on the show and on that basis she turned
- 55:30down uh other work specifically for for a show on Apple TV and then two weeks
- 55:36later they fired her and said well you didn't do any work so we're not going to
- 55:40pay you either and so now and then so now she's this is a tricky one because
- 55:45both jobs basically she got lost both of the jobs cuz Apple TV hired someone else
- 55:49cuz she said no sorry I'm working for Disney now that kind
- 55:54of that in it itself is not On Disney I think because I've been in situations
- 55:59where I've turned down one job to take another job and that's just kind of on
- 56:02me if that job didn't pan out yeah I suppose so I think the the dis the
- 56:09dispute is I think she signed a contract and they're now saying now there wasn't
- 56:12a contract which I mean that seems like fairly easy to prove one way or another
- 56:16so well it probably is easy enough to prove if you're not going against Disney
- 56:21and their team of 40 lawyers so Disney have probably got to we can do what we want
- 56:28Clause yeah good point all right but uh
- 56:32yeah this is this isn't like um in the past where people have like Disney have
- 56:36fired this person no they've just not hired them again this person literally
- 56:40was fired as far as I can tell and and said they immediately started working on
- 56:45the show for two weeks and then got fired and so so which this was the
- 56:50acolyte right yeah okay yes oh interesting so I is not necessarily a
- 56:57teaser trailer but there was at least like a a logo reveal or something for
- 57:01this yes I believe so yeah this is yeah like I said set during the high Republic
- 57:07it's going to be they've got a bunch of stuff in that era already I haven't seen
- 57:10any High Republic before or after Old Republic huh interesting you know what I
- 57:17don't know now I don't know Luke would probably
- 57:22know I've so lost interest did you know the Mandalorian season 3 is watchable I
- 57:27keep forgetting I've not watch watchable as in good or watchable as in it's as in
- 57:30watchable as in you could watch it I don't know I'm not commenting on the
- 57:33quality of it I haven't even seen the
- 57:37second half of Andor and not because I don't like Andor the first three
- 57:43episodes were great yeah that's a good show I just I'm burned out from Star
- 57:49Wars they've made too many and too much of it is garbage and you know what I
- 57:53learned this week it's the 20th anniversary of Clone Wars Clone Wars is
- 58:0020 years old so that leads kind of into this other article right so someone
- 58:05asked John favra this week favro about the original theatrical cuts of Star
- 58:10Wars in an interview and said do you think we'll ever get those and he said
- 58:14what you need to realize is the number of people who actually
- 58:18give a [ __ ] about that is minute and and and dwindling like every day it's
- 58:23smaller and smaller because it's our generation and then the the majority of
- 58:28Star Wars fans now either saw the prequels so Star Wars is just completely
- 58:33different to them like they don't give a [ __ ] about what whatever we're talking
- 58:36about this theatrical business because it doesn't wouldn't make any sense to
- 58:39them anymore or there are most Star Wars fans the youngest Star Wars fans started
- 58:45with the Clone Wars and [ __ ] yeah they don't know what they don't know what
- 58:48we're talking about when we say that's right yeah like oh the original Star we
- 58:52say little things like oh no it used to be that when you looked out that window
- 58:55you just Stars you didn't see clouds and ships gone by they' be like yeah that
- 58:59was just a w [ __ ] mate yeah like yeah they don't care but you know why because
- 59:04this it doesn't really matter that much to be honest no look I I'm realizing
- 59:09that day yeah but but he's right when he says it's dwindling because I don't even
- 59:15care now like honestly I don't even care now I read this article and I was like
- 59:18yeah he's right it's not worth but we have talked about the fact that there
- 59:22weren't an original theatrical cut because every Cinema a slightly
- 59:26different version based on where he was up to in the process yeah so he didn't
- 59:30comment on any of that which I mean he I'm sure he probably knows that but his
- 59:33yeah his major point was just that nobody cares about that there's no
- 59:37there's yeah there's no market for them to do that and it would be a hassle
- 59:43because they really did go back for the special editions they really truly did
- 59:47go back to the original negatives yeah and reconstruct the film and the old
- 59:53ones are gone like yeah George luas wasn't lying when he said that there are
- 59:59copies of the films that were made for Cinemas but you can't remaster that the
- 1:00:04way they remaster stuff now yeah yeah cuz I remember at one
- 1:00:08point the Smithsonian or the American Film Institute or something was like we
- 1:00:13want a copy of this like for posterity and was like there isn't a copy there
- 1:00:17isn't one version you could take because people say oh the people have film
- 1:00:22copies right but you can get those online right and you can download them
- 1:00:25and watch them that's not what people want what people want is Blu-ray
- 1:00:30remaster the same way you get all these other movies Blu-ray remaster from the
- 1:00:34original negative with all the imperfections fixed like beautiful crisp
- 1:00:40image that doesn't exist it's not possible it literally doesn't exist a
- 1:00:45version called the despecialized version where some dudes have try to reconstruct
- 1:00:51an approximation of that that's as close as you're ever going to get and it's
- 1:00:54pretty good so just just be thankful that that still exists right yeah but
- 1:01:00anyway like I said and even if they could do it they won't forget about it
- 1:01:05it's done I saw a meme the other day that said um it had that scene where
- 1:01:09it's like uh he was our last hope and
- 1:01:12Yoda goes no there is another um there's and then it says people who have watched
- 1:01:18the Clone Wars no there are five to six
- 1:01:23others yeah well well that's yeah that's
- 1:01:28and that's what kids that is that is Star Wars mind you so we go that's a
- 1:01:33mess they go what what do you mean yeah yeah yeah it all just yeah cuz they
- 1:01:37watch it doing quotes yeah exactly yeah like but why did obiwan say this cuz he
- 1:01:43was [ __ ] lying to him mate yeah they
- 1:01:47don't see it as a plot hole no um but I I wish I like the Clone Wars when I read
- 1:01:52about some of the plots in this in the Clone Wars like about
- 1:01:56how Quon was the first one to really study the force from a like a academic
- 1:02:02point of view to try to figure out how to transition I saw C I saw Clips
- 1:02:07there's an episode where uh somebody goes to a planet where you can commune
- 1:02:12with the force and talks to and yeah I've seen all these clips I'm like I
- 1:02:15guess I I guess I wish I liked this more it looks [ __ ] amazing when you just
- 1:02:20watch that and then you start from episode one you're like this is just a
- 1:02:22[ __ ] garbage kids show yeah like I think it took a little while cuz even
- 1:02:27the um the quality of the animation when I see those clips I'm like that's not
- 1:02:32what I was watching I think you got to get past the first season or two cuz
- 1:02:37yeah yeah that first season is rough yeah for me anyway can't do
- 1:02:43it Yoda sitting on top of a tank going hello B to look behind you and they go
- 1:02:49where where and he like like I'm like what the [ __ ] is this yeah this isn't
- 1:02:54Star Wars I it's not my Star Wars yeah well guess what you don't you don't
- 1:02:58have star there's no your Star Wars anymore it doesn't exist it does it
- 1:03:02exists on the DVDs in my basement yeah in a have to remind myself that even when I was a
- 1:03:08kid there was still that Star Wars
- 1:03:13droids show cartoon spin-off there was courage which was [ __ ] garage not
- 1:03:19here so we can [ __ ] on that yeah yeah there was the [ __ ] holiday special
- 1:03:23like it was never as pure as we pretend it was no no no we did that in our
- 1:03:29heads we did we all did collectively it was like a mass hysteria where we all
- 1:03:35remember it this certain way that it never was yeah well it was for us on our
- 1:03:41VHS tapes yeah I think that's you said this the other day you were like the
- 1:03:46version that we remember is not even this theatrical cut everyone keeps
- 1:03:50speculating about VHS yeah that's right yeah and the TV cut yeah whatever the
- 1:03:57the first time I ever watched Star Wars I taped it off the
- 1:04:01Telly I had to go to bed I set the tape up and record I went to bed cuz it got
- 1:04:06to 8:30 and I was a child my parents said go to bed in the morning I got up
- 1:04:11early and I watched like an hour of it before school and then I begged to be
- 1:04:15allowed to stay home and watch the rest and they said no so I watched the rest
- 1:04:19when I got home yeah you spent the whole day just wondering [ __ ] if they
- 1:04:23decided to attack the Dead star yeah exactly yeah exactly and then uh and
- 1:04:28then I watched the rest of it that night and that's the first time I saw Star
- 1:04:32Wars yeah I had an ear achee like my ear drum ruptured as it did like three times
- 1:04:38when I was a kid and uh that's not funny my dad [ __ ] hilarious is it man my
- 1:04:44dad tricked me by telling me that um there was some kind of like Sonic cure
- 1:04:50where like sound waves would make it feel better so that I like I had to
- 1:04:54watch videos but what he was really the one was just trying to distract me which
- 1:04:57was genius right um so he went to the video store and he brought me back two
- 1:05:02movies I'd never heard of Raiders the Lost Arc and Star Wars and uh I just
- 1:05:07watched the two movies just became my favorite movies forever yeah I don't
- 1:05:12remember the first time I watched Raiders even I mean this it would have
- 1:05:16been a similar scenario I'm sure it was on you know what I think I might have
- 1:05:19seen Temple of Doom first cuz it was on TV technically it's
- 1:05:24a prequel so actually that would work when did that come out that actually
- 1:05:28might be it they both of those were out before we were yeah yeah 84 I wasn't watching
- 1:05:35Templer Doom when I was four at least I shouldn't have been speaking of doing
- 1:05:39things you shouldn't do when you're four well weird um is this an Afterparty SE
