- 0:08SPEAKER_00: Hey my friend, thanks so much for joining me on this episode of the Daily Rider.
- 0:12SPEAKER_00: Hey, I want to take a moment to let you know about an important milestone that we just passed here on the podcast in the last couple of weeks, and that is that we hit 100,000 downloads of the Daily Rider podcast.
- 0:24SPEAKER_00: Now I know that there are a lot of podcasts with far fewer downloads, and there's also a lot of podcasts with much, much higher numbers.
- 0:31SPEAKER_00: So what does 100,000 downloads actually mean?
- 0:34SPEAKER_00: Is it significant?
- 0:35SPEAKER_00: Is it a lot?
- 0:36SPEAKER_00: Is it awesome?
- 0:37SPEAKER_00: Is it not awesome?
- 0:38SPEAKER_00: Well, there are probably a lot of ways to look at that, but for me it means that a hundred thousand times people have been touched with the message of writing.
- 0:46SPEAKER_00: And I consider that a pretty cool success, no matter how you slice it.
- 0:51SPEAKER_00: And even though I'm the one who writes and records this podcast, I don't really take credit for this success.
- 0:56SPEAKER_00: So if I don't take credit really, who does deserve the credit?
- 1:00SPEAKER_00: Well, I think it's you, the listener.
- 1:03SPEAKER_00: My listeners are the ones who tune in and listen.
- 1:05SPEAKER_00: They're the ones who download and share this podcast, and they're the ones who make it worth all the time and effort.
- 1:11SPEAKER_00: And because you're listening, you are included in that group.
- 1:14SPEAKER_00: So really you are responsible for the success of this show.
- 1:17SPEAKER_00: As broadcasters and as people in media often say, it doesn't really matter if you put something together and nobody watches it or reads it or listens to it.
- 1:26SPEAKER_00: It only really matters if somebody is listening to it and being impacted by it.
- 1:29SPEAKER_00: So thank you for listening.
- 1:31SPEAKER_00: I really do mean that sincerely.
- 1:33SPEAKER_00: And I'm genuinely grateful for your time and I appreciate every download and every listen.
- 1:38SPEAKER_00: There are so many other ways that you could be spending your time, and it means the world to me that you've chosen to spend it listening to this podcast.
- 1:46SPEAKER_00: So we are right at 700 total episodes of the podcast.
- 1:50SPEAKER_00: And honestly, I don't consider myself to be a person of some kind of unusual talent or skill, but the one thing that I have done is I have consistently shown up to create this show day after day.
- 2:01SPEAKER_00: And I want you to know that that's a big key for your success too.
- 2:05SPEAKER_00: If you decide that you're going to do something important to you and you stick with it and you keep showing up, you can achieve big goals as well.
- 2:11SPEAKER_00: And sometimes I think that we make success way more complicated than it needs to be.
- 2:15SPEAKER_00: Basically, you pick a goal, you do the work that's required to meet that goal, and you just keep showing up consistently.
- 2:20SPEAKER_00: You're persistent, you work past obstacles, you figure things out, you talk to people who have done what you want to do, and you figure out how to get where you want to go.
- 2:28SPEAKER_00: Really, that's basically what any kind of success comes down to, I think.
- 2:32SPEAKER_00: Now there is one more person that I want to thank, and that is our amazing podcast producer, Rajan No.
- 2:38SPEAKER_00: After I write and record the podcast episodes, she handles the audio editing and uploading.
- 2:43SPEAKER_00: She writes show notes, she coordinates with podcast guests, and she also handles social media for the Daily Writer.
- 2:50SPEAKER_00: She is an absolutely indispensable part of the Daily Writer, which of course is not only this podcast, but it's a membership community as well.
- 2:58SPEAKER_00: And of course, you hear about the membership community all the time because I promote it here on the podcast, since it's an amazing community and I love the success that our members are having.
- 3:06SPEAKER_00: So, Rajan, thank you so much for all your hard work and your creativity.
- 3:10SPEAKER_00: It truly makes a difference in people's lives.
- 3:12SPEAKER_00: And thank you, our listeners, for letting me come into your life and share interviews and inspiration related to writing.
- 3:19SPEAKER_00: So let me wrap up this episode by sharing for just a minute or two about what's ahead for the daily writer.
- 3:25SPEAKER_00: Now, of course, I'm going to continue with the current podcast schedule, which means that this is going to keep on being a daily show.
- 3:31SPEAKER_00: But in May, just here in a couple months, we're going to do something we've never done before, which is doing a monthly theme.
- 3:38SPEAKER_00: And the theme for May is mental health.
- 3:40SPEAKER_00: So May will essentially be mental health for writers month.
- 3:45SPEAKER_00: And each of the weekly guests will have some things to share related to staying mentally healthy.
- 3:49SPEAKER_00: We're also going to be doing a challenge during the month of May related to mental health.
- 3:53SPEAKER_00: You're also going to see a growing focus on the daily writer community this year.
- 3:57SPEAKER_00: Our members are really having some fantastic successes.
- 4:00SPEAKER_00: And gosh, if you're not a part of the daily writer community, I really want to strongly encourage you to check it out and give it a look.
- 4:07SPEAKER_00: And I guarantee that your writing life and your success is going to be stronger when you lock arms with other writers and you spend time around successful people like we have in the Daily Writer community.
- 4:18SPEAKER_00: Now, as far as my own books, of course, you know I'm a ghostwriter, but I write my own material as well.
- 4:23SPEAKER_00: This year I'm planning on releasing two writing-related books later this year.
- 4:27SPEAKER_00: The first one is called How to Build a Writing Habit, which is going to be a free download.
- 4:31SPEAKER_00: And this is the first of a series of short guides for writers.
- 4:35SPEAKER_00: And I'm calling this series 60-minute guides for writers.
- 4:38SPEAKER_00: So basically, these are short guides that solve a specific problem for writers, and you can read these in 60 minutes or less.
- 4:44SPEAKER_00: One of the big reasons that people buy books and they don't ever finish reading them a lot of the time is because the books are just long.
- 4:51SPEAKER_00: They're too long to really hold that person's attention.
- 4:53SPEAKER_00: So I'm a huge fan of short little books.
- 4:56SPEAKER_00: Now it doesn't mean every book needs to be little.
- 4:58SPEAKER_00: There is definitely a place for longer form books, books that are in the hundreds of pages and so forth.
- 5:03SPEAKER_00: But by and large, I really think there is an important place in our libraries for little short books that solve a specific problem.
- 5:10SPEAKER_00: You can get in, you can get out, kind of like a sitcom.
- 5:13SPEAKER_00: You know, you can take 22 minutes and watch a sitcom.
- 5:16SPEAKER_00: You can enjoy it and move on to the next thing.
- 5:18SPEAKER_00: So that's why I've put together this first book called How to Build a Writing Habit, which comes out in a couple months.
- 5:25SPEAKER_00: And there will be a number of other guides that are in that series as well.
- 5:29SPEAKER_00: Then in the month of October, I'm releasing the big book that I've been working on for a couple years.
- 5:33SPEAKER_00: And this is simply called The Daily Writer: 366 Meditations on Creativity, Habits, and Discovering Your Authentic Voice.
- 5:42SPEAKER_00: And this is a daily devotional type book for writers, and you will be able to be a beta reader and also join the launch team for the group.
- 5:50SPEAKER_00: And I'll release more info about that coming up in the late spring or early summer, just a few months before the book comes out.
- 5:57SPEAKER_00: I've not finished writing it yet.
- 5:59SPEAKER_00: There's a lot of work still to do on it, but I've got a sample done, and the feedback I've gotten from people has been extremely positive.
- 6:05SPEAKER_00: I think this is one of the best things that I've ever created.
- 6:08SPEAKER_00: It's been a lot of hard work.
- 6:09SPEAKER_00: And the episodes that you're hearing on this podcast that are the short weekday episodes that are like two minutes long, those are actually entries in the Daily Writer book.
- 6:19SPEAKER_00: And essentially what you're hearing on the podcast are first drafts of those daily entries.
- 6:23SPEAKER_00: That's really how I have constructed this whole podcast.
- 6:26SPEAKER_00: So once that book is written, uh, I'm still going to continue doing the daily episodes.
- 6:29SPEAKER_00: They just won't necessarily go into a book, or maybe they will.
- 6:33SPEAKER_00: Who knows?
- 6:33SPEAKER_00: I don't know.
- 6:34SPEAKER_00: But that's been what I've been doing with this podcast the last couple of years.
- 6:38SPEAKER_00: So lots of cool things happening here on the Daily Writer podcast and in our community and with my own books.
- 6:44SPEAKER_00: And I also have two or three client books that are coming out this year where I'm getting cover credit on those, so I can talk about those when those come out.
- 6:50SPEAKER_00: I've got some client books coming out where I don't have cover credit, so I can't really talk about those publicly, but um, I do have a couple of those where I am actually on the book and I'm really excited to help promote those.
- 7:01SPEAKER_00: Now, one more thing before I sign off here, I also really encourage you to follow the Daily Writer on Instagram, and you can find that at DailyWriter Life.
- 7:10SPEAKER_00: We have some very cool things happening there, and we're gonna be ramping up our presence on social media really soon in a big way.
- 7:17SPEAKER_00: And who knows, maybe I'll even get active on TikTok.
- 7:19SPEAKER_00: Um, but I can guarantee one thing, you're not going to see me do any dances on TikTok.
- 7:23SPEAKER_00: I promise that's something nobody needs to see.
- 7:26SPEAKER_00: All right, my friend, thanks for tuning in for this update.
- 7:29SPEAKER_00: And also thank you so much for being a faithful listener of the show.
- 7:33SPEAKER_00: I truly appreciate you, and I look forward to catching up with you on the next episode.
