- 0:00Speaker 1: It's been a good day. We're starting this new year
- 0:02Speaker 1: off in the right direction today. Yeah. Hey, you know
- 0:06Speaker 1: what I had to come to the realization. I kind
- 0:09Speaker 1: of want to share this with people, but you know,
- 0:15Speaker 1: I want to talk about there's a cost. There is
- 0:19Speaker 1: a cost. You know, when you make the decision to
- 0:26Speaker 1: be successful comes with a cost. And as much as
- 0:33Speaker 1: I've tried to negate the cost, as much as I've
- 0:37Speaker 1: tried to alleviate the cost, as much as I've oftentimes
- 0:41Speaker 1: just tried to not talk up the cost, the cost
- 0:46Speaker 1: is real. You know. I got in trouble, not really trouble,
- 0:51Speaker 1: but I got a bunch of haters that came online
- 0:53Speaker 1: one time when they saw me give a speech about
- 0:56Speaker 1: if you want to be successful, really really successful, it's
- 1:00Speaker 1: something you can't sleep eight hours And I believe that,
- 1:05Speaker 1: you know, somebody counted it with Oprah says she gets
- 1:09Speaker 1: eight hours sleep. Well. Oprah's wealthy, though, but if you
- 1:14Speaker 1: go back on her journey and asked her when she
- 1:17Speaker 1: was hustling trying to make it, what she getting eight
- 1:21Speaker 1: I don't think the answer would be yes. Everybody, I
- 1:26Speaker 1: know that's grinding, that's in the hustle, trying to really
- 1:33Speaker 1: really have more than normal. If you want above average,
- 1:39Speaker 1: it comes at a cost. And I've tried not to
- 1:44Speaker 1: talk about it because I don't want to, you know,
- 1:48Speaker 1: knock anybody down about it. But man, it's there's a
- 1:52Speaker 1: cost for everything. And you know, I know a lot
- 1:57Speaker 1: of successful people who have health is shu. I've had
- 2:00Speaker 1: my share of myself. Tommy can tell you about his,
- 2:03Speaker 1: Junior can tell you about his, All of us can
- 2:06Speaker 1: tell you about health issues. It's sometimes, you know, it
- 2:12Speaker 1: just it's a part of it. I don't know how
- 2:14Speaker 1: to explain it now. You don't want to sacrifice one
- 2:17Speaker 1: for the other, but sometimes it's unavoidable because there is
- 2:23Speaker 1: a cost, and a lot of times you end up
- 2:26Speaker 1: sometimes you have health issues because you just don't know
- 2:29Speaker 1: any better, you know. And that's why knowledge is so important,
- 2:32Speaker 1: because when you know better, you can do better, you know.
- 2:35Speaker 1: And had I known a long long time ago that
- 2:39Speaker 1: everything I put into my body was gonna have an
- 2:41Speaker 1: effect on me, I would have made some changes a
- 2:44Speaker 1: long long time ago. I just really started understanding this
- 2:48Speaker 1: in the last fifteen twenty years of my life. You know,
- 2:51Speaker 1: the how important eating the right thing is, how important
- 2:55Speaker 1: it is to take supplements. How important it is to
- 2:58Speaker 1: take regular visits to your doctor. And as black men,
- 3:02Speaker 1: I'm talking especially to black men, we find it so
- 3:05Speaker 1: hard to go to these doctors. I got a partner
- 3:08Speaker 1: right now, man that's trying to get out the hospital
- 3:12Speaker 1: right now because he ain't been to the doctor in
- 3:15Speaker 1: eight years. But he's seventy and he ain't been to
- 3:20Speaker 1: the doctor in eight years. We can't do that because
- 3:24Speaker 1: we've been grinding. And I understood something about grinding recently.
- 3:28Speaker 1: When you're grinding, grinding means actually to wear down. But
- 3:32Speaker 1: in order to have something, you got to get in
- 3:35Speaker 1: the wear down process, and the thing you end up
- 3:37Speaker 1: wearing down is your body. Now, I'm not saying you
- 3:40Speaker 1: should exchange your health for wealth. I wish that wasn't
- 3:43Speaker 1: the cost, but oftentimes that's the cost factor, and people
- 3:47Speaker 1: who don't want it, you don't have to do it.
- 3:50Speaker 1: But then there's a cost with being poor. To see,
- 3:53Speaker 1: there's a cost factor when you decide not to be anything.
- 3:56Speaker 1: It's a cost factor when you decide I'm just gonna
- 4:00Speaker 1: ride it out, I'm just gonna mail it in. There's
- 4:03Speaker 1: a cost factor for that. I notice when old people
- 4:07Speaker 1: who've been working their whole life. Finally retire and they
- 4:11Speaker 1: don't and they able to stop being active. I watch
- 4:14Speaker 1: them wear down, dissipate, just wither away because that work,
- 4:22Speaker 1: that thing called the grind of getting up going to
- 4:24Speaker 1: work every day. It gave them something to live for.
- 4:27Speaker 1: It gave them something to do and made them active.
- 4:30Speaker 1: It's just a cost, man, But you have to decide
- 4:33Speaker 1: which one of the costs you want to pay. Do
- 4:36Speaker 1: you want to pay the cost of being successful, or
- 4:38Speaker 1: do you want to be the cost you want to
- 4:40Speaker 1: pay the cost of being poor. Now, when I say poor,
- 4:43Speaker 1: I mean really poor. I don't mean like if you
- 4:46Speaker 1: make one hundred thousand dollars. I ain't talking about like that.
- 4:48Speaker 1: You're doing great, man, your life is good. I think
- 4:50Speaker 1: people that make one hundred thousand dollars doing fine with
- 4:53Speaker 1: your life. That's not what I'm saying, so please don't
- 4:55Speaker 1: misunderstand me. I'm talking about when you don't have enough
- 5:00Speaker 1: to eat, you can't put a roof over your family's head,
- 5:04Speaker 1: you can't get them to the store, and then you
- 5:08Speaker 1: got to do more. Man, you gotta do more. But
- 5:11Speaker 1: it's a cost for it, one way or the other.
- 5:15Speaker 1: I suggest, though, if I look back on it all,
- 5:20Speaker 1: you have to find a way to create a balance.
- 5:24Speaker 1: But the balance ain't gonna be even even, It's just
- 5:28Speaker 1: gotta be. You got to grind, you got to rest,
- 5:31Speaker 1: You got to grind, you got to rest, You got
- 5:34Speaker 1: to grind, you got to rest. If you just grind, grind, grind, grind, grind, grind, grind, grind, grind,
- 5:41Speaker 1: then try to rest, the cost factor's gonna be greater.
- 5:45Speaker 1: So find the balance for yourself. I can't tell anybody
- 5:49Speaker 1: what that is, but there is a cost to being successful,
- 5:54Speaker 1: but there is a cost to not being successful, and
- 5:57Speaker 1: you have to decide which one of the costs you
- 5:59Speaker 1: have to pay. Now that's just real talk. You can
- 6:02Speaker 1: say it ain't so, but yes, it is not being
- 6:06Speaker 1: able to provide for your family. That's a cost being
- 6:10Speaker 1: able to provide for your family. There is a cost.
- 6:14Speaker 1: You have to decide which cost you're willing to pay
- 6:17Speaker 1: and then find a balance. That's what I had to school.
- 6:21Speaker 1: So those are my closing remarks. That's it for today. Hey, listen, y'all,
