- 0:34what's going on everybody
- 0:35time to meet in the break
- 0:37room it's lunch time with
- 0:38clydesdale what is going on
- 0:41train to live jody lynn
- 0:44meredith good to see you
- 0:45all in the chat already I'm
- 0:48so glad to be back to our
- 0:49regularly scheduled program
- 0:51um we're going to talk
- 0:52about that in a second uh
- 0:54but train to live
- 0:57uh says oh sorry my mouse
- 0:58ran out of juice today I
- 1:00just want to thank scott I
- 1:01started watching shrinking
- 1:02it is so good it is so good
- 1:06so good and they're coming
- 1:08back for another season I
- 1:10cannot wait for that uh and
- 1:14I think they're bringing in
- 1:15I read somewhere they're
- 1:17bringing in like another
- 1:18big name star for the next
- 1:20season uh should be interesting
- 1:25But last night, The Bear came back.
- 1:28Been a big fan of that show.
- 1:30Was not a fan of season three.
- 1:33But season four started up last night.
- 1:36So went back and rewatched
- 1:37the last episode of season three.
- 1:40So I could just remember
- 1:41kind of everything that happened.
- 1:43Watched the first episode of season four.
- 1:46From the beginning of the show,
- 1:48they do this thing where
- 1:51Karm rubs his chest.
- 1:54And it's a way of
- 1:54apologizing without having
- 1:56to say it to people in the kitchen.
- 2:02And there's a moment where
- 2:05him and Sid are in the kitchen.
- 2:07He makes that move.
- 2:09And I truly feel it's the
- 2:11creators of the show
- 2:12apologizing for last season.
- 2:15because they talk about how
- 2:16they can't deal with the chaos.
- 2:19And last season,
- 2:20season three was all chaos.
- 2:22And it was almost like an
- 2:23apology to the fans and the
- 2:26viewers saying, we're sorry,
- 2:28we're going to get back to
- 2:30what it is we do best.
- 2:32And I thought the first
- 2:33episode was awesome and
- 2:35back to season one, season two level.
- 2:39So excited to see the rest of the season.
- 2:41All ten episodes are
- 2:42available now on Hulu.
- 2:46uh through fx and my wife
- 2:49and I have made a conscious
- 2:50decision not to just super
- 2:52binge it but to kind of
- 2:54savor this one because this
- 2:55could be the last season um
- 2:58so we're just we're gonna
- 2:58try to take it slow uh
- 3:00season three we did in like
- 3:02two days and then it's all
- 3:04over and you've got nothing
- 3:05to watch nothing to talk
- 3:06about so we're gonna try to
- 3:08take this one a little bit slow
- 3:12But glad you like Shrinking.
- 3:13I'm super excited for the next season.
- 3:15I think it's one of the best
- 3:17shows that's come out in a long time.
- 3:21It's funny.
- 3:22It's endearing.
- 3:23It's got all the emotions in one big show.
- 3:28So glad you like that.
- 3:30Train to live.
- 3:34Corey, Jay Birch, thanks for joining.
- 3:36Good to see you guys.
- 3:38Jay Birch got all trimmed up this week.
- 3:42looking like a sexy uh
- 3:44retired teacher now so
- 3:50there's that allergies are
- 3:55bad here today I'm doing
- 4:00laundry so it might be from
- 4:01that because all my dog's
- 4:03hair gets on everything so
- 4:06when I clean the lynch trap every time
- 4:08I have to like breathe in
- 4:09all the dog hair and the dander.
- 4:11And I'm allergic to that as
- 4:13well as all the external stuff.
- 4:15So just trying to make it through the day.
- 4:20So yesterday we had Pete Shawn.
- 4:22We talked to Metfix.
- 4:24Jody made it abundantly
- 4:26clear that she would rather
- 4:27have a regular lunch show than Pete Shaw.
- 4:30But I thought it was
- 4:31important to kind of
- 4:32understand what Metfix was.
- 4:35And then after the fact,
- 4:36I'm learning all this stuff about how
- 4:39People believe that Greg
- 4:42isn't really as involved in
- 4:44MedFix as we thought.
- 4:47or maybe as I thought,
- 4:49and that he's more involved
- 4:52with broken science than he
- 4:54is with medfix.
- 4:58And if that's the case,
- 4:59then a lot of the basis of
- 5:01what it's about makes less sense to me.
- 5:05And I kind of wish I would
- 5:06have known that going in.
- 5:08I would have phrased the
- 5:08questions differently.
- 5:11I know early on I let him,
- 5:12I let Pete talk about
- 5:14longer periods of time and I
- 5:15thought I thought he got
- 5:16more technical the longer I
- 5:17gave him to talk so I tried
- 5:20to shorten it down as the
- 5:21interview went on and ask
- 5:23more questions and kind of
- 5:25keep him more layman's
- 5:29terms general if I could uh
- 5:31but it but whenever you're
- 5:32talking about the science
- 5:34of nutrition and the
- 5:35details of it it gets it
- 5:38gets a little heady and um
- 5:44And so I think it got better
- 5:48as the interview went on for sure.
- 5:52But I'm not,
- 5:54I hope you guys got something out of it.
- 5:55I surely did.
- 5:58I find that stuff fascinating.
- 6:02I would really like to know
- 6:06I would really like to know
- 6:07Greg's opinion on the major
- 6:10factor of the flexible
- 6:13metabolic conditions.
- 6:16Meaning like,
- 6:17does your body use fat or
- 6:18does your body use carbs to
- 6:20burn energy back and forth?
- 6:24Because that seems to be
- 6:24controversial with...
- 6:28seminar staff members and
- 6:31what's happening with MedFix.
- 6:33And I'd like to understand
- 6:35that a little bit more.
- 6:37But I now have a good
- 6:40relationship with Pete.
- 6:45Maybe we can have him on one
- 6:46more time and I can ask
- 6:47that question or ask other
- 6:49questions that you guys might have.
- 6:57uh, trained to live.
- 6:58I'm interested if they want
- 6:59elite athletes to apply
- 7:01their model to their own
- 7:02nutrition since they
- 7:04brought up Jason Hopper as a comparison.
- 7:06They don't.
- 7:08Um,
- 7:10I mean, Pete is very aware that athletes,
- 7:14I think what they don't
- 7:15like is that athletes are
- 7:16using refined sugar,
- 7:18extra sugars to sustain
- 7:20themselves through a
- 7:22weekend instead of just the
- 7:25normal sugar that's in a
- 7:28potato or pasta or whatever.
- 7:32The gummy bear example is
- 7:34what he kept coming up with.
- 7:38Um,
- 7:39that I don't think he even thinks the
- 7:40lead athlete should be doing that.
- 7:43But I think he,
- 7:45at this point with Jason
- 7:47Hopper quote was that there
- 7:49are a lot of people who go
- 7:50to CrossFit and now want to
- 7:52be like Jason Hopper.
- 7:54And it's pulling people away
- 7:55from what a normal you and me non-athlete,
- 8:00non-elite athlete, um,
- 8:03would do for their
- 8:04nutrition throughout the day.
- 8:14I feel like he made it seem
- 8:16like all CrossFitters look
- 8:17to elite athletes as an
- 8:18example for their own nutrition.
- 8:20And I don't think that's
- 8:21true most of the time.
- 8:21And I tried to make that point.
- 8:26That I started CrossFit in
- 8:28two thousand eleven.
- 8:29I've never looked to an
- 8:30elite athlete and what they
- 8:31eat and thought that's what
- 8:32I should be doing.
- 8:34Never.
- 8:40Bag of candy is easy, I guess.
- 8:41No meal prep.
- 8:42Yeah.
- 8:43Easy to pack.
- 8:43Easy to.
- 8:47But he used examples of
- 8:48walking into gyms as a
- 8:49seminar staff member and
- 8:51seeing like jars of gummy
- 8:52bears on the counter and
- 8:54felt that that was a bad example.
- 8:55Donuts, things like that.
- 9:03Larry Young,
- 9:04I feel like the more I consume,
- 9:06it all boils down to the same concepts.
- 9:08I've looked for some magic, like lifting.
- 9:12I've done one working set
- 9:14since my college b-ball days.
- 9:16I get strong when I'm consistent.
- 9:23Corey says,
- 9:23it's difficult to eat a baked
- 9:24potato after competition workout.
- 9:30And trying to live, good point, Corey.
- 9:33It's all about replacing
- 9:34glycogen with all that fiber,
- 9:36either pre-post-workout or competition.
- 9:40Without all that fiber.
- 9:43Yeah, when I was competing,
- 9:46I couldn't eat at all.
- 9:49Even like in my teenage swimming days,
- 9:54I could not keep the food down.
- 9:57So I think you have to do
- 9:58what you have to do.
- 9:59And part of their philosophy
- 10:01is that everything is a work in progress.
- 10:03As long as you're working
- 10:04toward what it should be,
- 10:07then you're on the right track.
- 10:10It doesn't have to be
- 10:11perfection from the start.
- 10:13If you read through their
- 10:15stuff on their website and...
- 10:19And I think with an athlete,
- 10:21you have to do what works for you.
- 10:23If you can't eat a baked potato,
- 10:24you need something to give you energy.
- 10:27You have to do something.
- 10:29So, yeah.
- 10:35But I'm glad it came on.
- 10:37I'm glad we got to talk about it.
- 10:46I've kind of...
- 10:47avoided nutrition talk for a
- 10:49while just because of some
- 10:50things that I've been going
- 10:51on that have been going on
- 10:52in my life and trying to
- 10:53figure things out myself.
- 10:59But maybe I need to get more
- 11:01into it again.
- 11:03And try to understand for myself better.
- 11:06And maybe talk about the
- 11:08struggles I've been having.
- 11:10But I need to be in the
- 11:12right headspace to do that.
- 11:13So maybe we'll do that on future shows.
- 11:24I eat like a monk seven days a week.
- 11:26Comp days are a whole other
- 11:27thing in and of themselves.
- 11:33Meredith Jones,
- 11:33when you have another event coming up,
- 11:35wouldn't liquid nutrition
- 11:36protein shake be the way to
- 11:38go versus candy?
- 11:39Seems hard on the stomach.
- 11:41See, I think it depends.
- 11:42Like if you're doing a
- 11:43summer event when it's, um,
- 11:53To me,
- 11:54it feels like it's curdling in my
- 11:55stomach.
- 11:57So my wife would make these oatmeal,
- 12:00peanut butter, and honey Powerballs,
- 12:04she would call them.
- 12:05And that's what would get me
- 12:07through a competition.
- 12:08I would eat a couple of
- 12:09those between events.
- 12:12It felt like I was doing
- 12:13better than eating gummy bears,
- 12:14but still getting some calories,
- 12:16some fat back into my
- 12:17system without it upsetting
- 12:19my stomach and wanting to
- 12:21puke in the middle of a burpee.
- 12:26But I'm just a – I was just
- 12:29a ham and egger,
- 12:30as they say in the boxing business,
- 12:32doing local comp.
- 12:42Jay Burch,
- 12:43are you still working with Cheryl?
- 12:45I've not been working with Cheryl.
- 12:47And –
- 12:51I'm going to keep that to
- 12:52myself for now because I
- 12:54have to do some things
- 12:55behind the scenes with that
- 12:57before I talk anymore.
- 13:00But none of this was about Cheryl,
- 13:02just so you know.
- 13:03This was all about me, just so you know.
- 13:14So, yeah.
- 13:16Jeremy Eats World.
- 13:17Curious what you mean by
- 13:19being in the right
- 13:19headspace to talk about...
- 13:20It's not about talking about my diet,
- 13:22Jeremy.
- 13:22It's talking about what got
- 13:24me in a place where I
- 13:26needed just to try some different things.
- 13:33So it's not about the diet itself.
- 13:34It's about the other things
- 13:35around it that I just
- 13:38needed to take a step back.
- 13:43So...
- 13:47holly says applesauce or
- 13:48baby food pouches yeah if
- 13:51you can handle those things
- 13:58um so there is that um we also got a
- 14:16Are you still working out at
- 14:16home or at the gym?
- 14:18So I was working out at the
- 14:19gym until just about a week ago.
- 14:23And then my wife and I sat down.
- 14:24She is now recovered from
- 14:25her knee surgery.
- 14:26She wants to do workouts.
- 14:28So we're working out in the
- 14:29garage gym together for at
- 14:31least the summer, early fall.
- 14:34And what we're going to do
- 14:35is take the money that I
- 14:36was spending for the gym
- 14:38and upgrading some equipment in my gym.
- 14:41So I have it in my garage for the summer.
- 14:44And then after the early fall,
- 14:46I'm going to go back to the gym.
- 14:49And
- 14:53The reason,
- 14:53one of the reasons I left
- 14:54players like a week ago was
- 14:57one for my wife to work out with her.
- 14:59The other thing is because of this show,
- 15:01I switched to working out
- 15:01in the evenings and I'd
- 15:03lost a lot of the community feel.
- 15:06So I've got to figure out,
- 15:08I may go to Rudy burgers gym,
- 15:11which is about the same
- 15:12distance the other side.
- 15:14Um, cause they work out in the evening and,
- 15:17um, do that.
- 15:19Um,
- 15:20but right now we're just
- 15:21using the money I would use
- 15:22for monthly to upgrade.
- 15:24I'm going to put a rower in
- 15:25my garage and I'm going to get some,
- 15:28some boxes and some things
- 15:30to upgrade my gym at home.
- 15:34So yes to Rudy and on that.
- 15:40Yeah.
- 15:41And the owners of the gym, uh,
- 15:44Mike and Caitlin are awesome as well.
- 15:51And it's a lot smaller, too.
- 15:53It's a lot more intimate.
- 15:54It's a lot more community-friendly,
- 15:56especially in the evenings.
- 16:00So that's kind of the plan right now.
- 16:04So just to hit some news,
- 16:07because I do have an
- 16:07appointment this afternoon, and that is,
- 16:10if you didn't see,
- 16:13we have some breaking news.
- 16:15Water is wet, the sky is blue, and T.A.
- 16:18Claire Toomey is going to
- 16:19the CrossFit Games.
- 16:21Those were the breaking
- 16:22pieces of news yesterday.
- 16:25Tia is back.
- 16:28I don't think any of us are
- 16:30surprised at this point.
- 16:31I think she left that door open by the,
- 16:33her wording.
- 16:35I think Amanda Hari put it
- 16:37beautifully when she
- 16:39pointed out that she did
- 16:40not say she was retiring
- 16:42and she's coming back for number eight.
- 16:46I joked with Carolyn
- 16:46yesterday that it had to be
- 16:48Carolyn's marketing plan of
- 16:50the eight on its side for
- 16:51the to me to show the
- 16:53infinity sign that she is
- 16:54forever the goat.
- 16:56Um,
- 17:06So she's coming back.
- 17:08Andrew Sten, different topic.
- 17:11Heard on Boys Interrupted
- 17:12that Christy Arma moved to Boise.
- 17:18Honestly, Andrew, since she sold the gym,
- 17:22she's not in the gym as
- 17:24much as she used to be.
- 17:26I am betting they probably
- 17:27bought a house out there
- 17:29and they have a house here
- 17:30in Westerville because I've
- 17:33seen them do workouts on their Instagram,
- 17:37on their YouTube,
- 17:38in the garage gym here in Columbus.
- 17:42And I know they're always on the road,
- 17:43traveling outdoors, doing mountain things,
- 17:45hiking, all that kind of stuff.
- 17:47So maybe they have a place in both spots.
- 17:54And I know that her and Justin are close.
- 17:59They have the same agent.
- 18:01Justin used to drop into
- 18:02players all the time when
- 18:03he was here for the Arnold.
- 18:06So I know that they're tight
- 18:08and I don't know exactly.
- 18:11I, you know,
- 18:12I haven't talked to them and
- 18:13probably gosh, since they sold the gym,
- 18:18just saw him in passing.
- 18:23So also yesterday, Brent was on Rich.
- 18:29We were looking forward to that.
- 18:32And they made it seem like
- 18:33Angelo was really going to
- 18:34press Brent on the demands.
- 18:40I don't think it ever got to
- 18:41that pressing.
- 18:43I do think that he did
- 18:44address them and he made
- 18:46the comment that no matter
- 18:48what they put out as PFAA,
- 18:49they were going to be
- 18:50criticized for what that was.
- 18:53And I disagree with that.
- 18:57I think that if you would
- 19:00have gotten your contingent
- 19:03of athletes together and
- 19:05and talked it through and
- 19:07came up with a group
- 19:08decision as a large group
- 19:11and what that message
- 19:12should be and then made that message,
- 19:17then I think it would have
- 19:17went over better.
- 19:19But I think what happened is
- 19:22you thought you had the
- 19:23backing of the athletes.
- 19:25You acted like you had the
- 19:26backing of the athletes.
- 19:28You made a determination
- 19:30with eight of you and then
- 19:31it didn't fly and you had
- 19:33nothing to back that.
- 19:36I wasn't critical of what
- 19:38you said if you had reasons behind it.
- 19:42I was critical of how you
- 19:43did it and how you were
- 19:46trying to represent the
- 19:47entire athlete base with
- 19:50just a handful of you.
- 19:55I still think you're laying
- 19:57blame possibly in the wrong direction,
- 20:00but the world may never
- 20:03know because nobody's
- 20:04letting us know what happened there.
- 20:10The other thing that he did
- 20:11say on there that I do like
- 20:14is they're coming up with
- 20:15the standard movement database.
- 20:18As someone who covers the sport,
- 20:20trying to guess what
- 20:21standard different
- 20:23movements are at a
- 20:24competition when you're
- 20:25there live and you haven't seen...
- 20:30you haven't seen the athlete
- 20:31briefing and you're trying
- 20:33to make definitive
- 20:34statements whether a guy
- 20:35was moving correctly or
- 20:37incorrectly and you have no
- 20:39clue is so freaking hard
- 20:41and so frustrating when
- 20:43you're there um when you're
- 20:46there in person having a
- 20:49movement standard book that
- 20:52everybody could follow and
- 20:53if you know they're
- 20:54following that book for
- 20:55that competition uh makes
- 20:57perfect sense to me
- 21:00And I like that at first
- 21:01they're not mandating it or
- 21:02trying to get it mandated,
- 21:04but just making it available to use.
- 21:07And you can just copy and
- 21:09paste it to explain the
- 21:14movement standard without
- 21:16having to rewrite it for
- 21:17every competition.
- 21:19I think it will grab hold if
- 21:21it's available to
- 21:22competitions to do that.
- 21:24and it's already been vetted
- 21:26and tried and makes it much
- 21:28easier for them,
- 21:29I think that is a step in
- 21:31the right direction.
- 21:32And that's a step to help
- 21:33them get some support again
- 21:39after what happened this last fall.
- 21:49I understand the AFJ has
- 21:50been working with the PFAA.
- 21:53on movement standards for over a year,
- 21:54it's a lot of work.
- 21:55I'm sure that it is.
- 21:58But even if it starts small
- 21:59and it grows and we get
- 22:01more and more movements
- 22:02into that database as we move along,
- 22:05I think that is fine.
- 22:08I think it's fine if you
- 22:09just add the ten most
- 22:10popular movements in a book
- 22:13to start and then you add
- 22:15as you go and then it keeps
- 22:17getting bigger and bigger.
- 22:20I think it's fine.
- 22:23it doesn't have to be a
- 22:23completed project for it to
- 22:25be out there for everybody
- 22:26to use back on the demands
- 22:31uh doug reed that's a
- 22:33hundred percent projection
- 22:34from brent he was trying to
- 22:36steel man his argument
- 22:38position I agree train to
- 22:45live asks the question if I
- 22:49were a betting man
- 22:52I would bet that Alex takes the invite,
- 22:58but I do not have any
- 22:59firsthand knowledge as to
- 23:01whether she will or not.
- 23:03I did hear something from
- 23:05Jake that he believes she's
- 23:07taking the invite.
- 23:08He is her husband.
- 23:10He knows her better than anybody.
- 23:12But I also know that Justin
- 23:14Kotler feels like she has a long, great,
- 23:21future ahead of her and
- 23:23doesn't want her doing
- 23:24anything that could harm
- 23:26that and I think that is
- 23:29that is the crucial piece
- 23:30that we don't know I think
- 23:33it's going to be getting
- 23:34with doctors right before
- 23:36that decision has to be
- 23:37made and having that
- 23:39decision made then um
- 23:47Other than that,
- 23:48I thought the Brent thing
- 23:49was somewhat entertaining,
- 23:53but I didn't really get a
- 23:54lot out of it other than
- 23:55the movement standards.
- 23:57And I don't think there was
- 23:58a lot of pressing on the demands.
- 24:02I wish they would have taken
- 24:03it a step further and asked
- 24:09what support he had when
- 24:10they put that out there.
- 24:12who actually was in the
- 24:13decision-making process of
- 24:15that demand letter.
- 24:17Those are the things I'd
- 24:18like to know from them.
- 24:19They want transparency on the other side.
- 24:22We didn't get very much
- 24:23transparency from them and
- 24:24how that demand was created.
- 24:30So one last thing I'm going
- 24:38to talk about and
- 24:42Doug and Judy Reed, if you're in here,
- 24:43you may want to close yours.
- 24:45I watched the surviving Ohio
- 24:46state documentary on, on max.
- 24:51That was one of the most
- 24:52troubling documentaries
- 24:55I've ever watched in my life.
- 25:00It is about a doctor who was
- 25:03the team doctor for several
- 25:05sports at Ohio state.
- 25:08And ended up sexually
- 25:10abusing and raping hundreds
- 25:15of male victims at Ohio State.
- 25:20And this happened from the
- 25:21late eighties through the mid nineties.
- 25:24Um,
- 25:28the doctor actually ended up
- 25:29dying in the mid two
- 25:32thousands in twenty sixteen
- 25:35or twenty seventeen when
- 25:37the Larry Nassar incident
- 25:38was happening at Michigan State.
- 25:40Some of these athletes and
- 25:42victims saw what was
- 25:43happening with these young
- 25:45ladies and realized that
- 25:48what had happened to them
- 25:50was sexual abuse and they
- 25:52started to come forward and
- 25:54then it started to just
- 25:55unravel in droves.
- 25:58Yes, D. Reed.
- 25:59It's Dr. Richard Strauss.
- 26:00I was trying to remember the
- 26:02name as I was talking.
- 26:06And so it got uncovered much
- 26:09after the fact.
- 26:09And he would actually target
- 26:12Midwestern boys who
- 26:16wouldn't even know what a
- 26:18real exam was that he would
- 26:20be giving and made them
- 26:22feel like this was a normal
- 26:25exam that they should be receiving.
- 26:28And the boys didn't know any better.
- 26:30And they interview them and
- 26:31they talk about how they
- 26:33weren't sure if this was
- 26:34really abuse at the time.
- 26:39And Ohio State made some
- 26:41really bad missteps along
- 26:43the way when complaints
- 26:44came forward from the fencing coach.
- 26:49He was then promoted to the
- 26:52normal hospital.
- 26:54where the students go to get treated.
- 26:56And so then it became not
- 26:57just athletes that were victims.
- 26:59It became regular students
- 27:02that started to become victims.
- 27:06I think it was in two thousand eighteen.
- 27:07Ohio State finished an
- 27:09investigation where they
- 27:11came down that one hundred
- 27:12and seventy four victims
- 27:15were raped by this man and
- 27:19estimated over eight
- 27:21thousand students were sexually abused.
- 27:26Those numbers are
- 27:26astronomical compared to the other
- 27:31cases in the Big Ten alone.
- 27:34We had the Jerry Sandusky
- 27:35case at Penn State.
- 27:37We had the Larry Nassar case
- 27:38at Michigan State.
- 27:39Both of those universities
- 27:41admitted wrongdoing and
- 27:42settled with the victims.
- 27:45Penn State's victims
- 27:47received one point five
- 27:48million per victim.
- 27:51The Michigan State victims
- 27:53received one point two five
- 27:55million per victim.
- 27:57Ohio State has not settled,
- 27:59has not admitted guilt,
- 28:01and has only offered two
- 28:02hundred and fifty thousand per victim.
- 28:08It made my stomach flip so bad.
- 28:11I live here in Columbus.
- 28:13I live fifteen minutes from
- 28:14Ohio State University.
- 28:16The fact that that
- 28:17university and how big it
- 28:18is and how prominent it is
- 28:20in this state and how much
- 28:21money it makes year over
- 28:23year in their sports
- 28:24department is dragging this
- 28:28out for those victims is reprehensible.
- 28:34uh train to live it's on
- 28:36it's on max it's uh you
- 28:40know the hbo max app that
- 28:42you can you can stream on
- 28:45uh and it's called surviving ohio state
- 28:50I hope and pray to God that
- 28:53Ohio State comes to their
- 28:54senses and settles with
- 28:56these victims so they're
- 28:58not dragged through all
- 28:59this year over year over year.
- 29:02Ohio State has taken this
- 29:03all the way to the Supreme Court.
- 29:05The district court,
- 29:06they wanted to get it
- 29:07thrown out because of
- 29:09statute of limitations.
- 29:11And the courts found that
- 29:13because Ohio State hid what had happened,
- 29:19They were part of the reason
- 29:21why it took so long for it
- 29:23to come out because they
- 29:24hid the fact that it was happening.
- 29:27So it got thrown out by the
- 29:29courts and the Supreme
- 29:30Court refused to hear it
- 29:32because of that and said
- 29:33that the statute of
- 29:34limitations is not a factor
- 29:36here because they hid it for so long.
- 29:42And so this has started in
- 29:44two thousand sixteen or two
- 29:46thousand twenty five.
- 29:47And these victims have been
- 29:49drug through the mud through all of this.
- 29:52I hope that Ohio State comes to its senses,
- 29:55settle these suits,
- 29:57and these men can move on
- 29:58with their lives.
- 30:01Many of them got their
- 30:02scholarships revoked if
- 30:04they threatened to say anything.
- 30:06Some of them tried to say something,
- 30:08got their scholarships revoked,
- 30:10couldn't go to school anymore.
- 30:12it is appalling what happens.
- 30:16It's about a two-hour documentary.
- 30:19It is very well done.
- 30:21It has all the facts explained out,
- 30:24but what the hell happened
- 30:26is just mind-boggling.
- 30:34You are correct, Jody.
- 30:37So many young men must have been affected.
- 30:39The OSU athletic department
- 30:40has two hundred fifty four
- 30:42point nine million in revenue,
- 30:43but an operational budget
- 30:45of two hundred ninety two
- 30:46point seven million.
- 30:47Unsure where all the money goes.
- 30:53Yeah,
- 30:54there are money facts that are
- 30:56brought up at the end of
- 30:58the documentary that I
- 30:59don't want to misquote,
- 31:00so that's why I'm not using them.
- 31:03But the revenue from the
- 31:05athletic departments,
- 31:06and I don't remember the year timeframe,
- 31:08is in the billions.
- 31:16I'm a Penn State fan.
- 31:18I've been to Michigan State.
- 31:21Ohio State is making more
- 31:22money than those two universities,
- 31:24and they found a way to pay
- 31:26their victims in the
- 31:28millions what they deserve
- 31:30for what they went through.
- 31:33So if Ohio State's going to
- 31:35try to claim poor now, give me a break.
- 31:42Uh, D Reed says, wait, you like PSU?
- 31:44Yes, Doug.
- 31:45I, I grew up in Pennsylvania.
- 31:48Um, my uncle was a graduate of Penn state,
- 31:50took me to a bunch of games
- 31:52when I was a kid.
- 31:53So I just became a Penn
- 31:54state fan and I've been
- 31:56that my whole life through
- 32:03thick and thin through all the jokes.
- 32:07through all the ridicule
- 32:08because of the Jerry Sandusky situation,
- 32:11I admit what happened there
- 32:12was just as bad,
- 32:14needed to be dealt with just as much.
- 32:22But yeah.
- 32:29Probably be broke after the
- 32:30retro NIL payments.
- 32:32Yeah,
- 32:34I'm guessing though that maybe the
- 32:35victims deserve the money
- 32:37before the NIL deals since
- 32:40Ohio State had the highest
- 32:42paid team in college
- 32:44football last year and they
- 32:47won the national championship.
- 32:49So there you go.
- 32:53Pay money to make money.
- 33:01I'm going to leave with this
- 33:02on a little brighter note.
- 33:03I did see on GetUp this
- 33:04morning that the NCAA has
- 33:07made a deal with, I think,
- 33:11Venmo and PayPal,
- 33:12where all NIL payments have
- 33:14to be done through those
- 33:16two apps so that the money
- 33:18can be tracked much more
- 33:21than just like cash
- 33:22payments or check payments.
- 33:24But they're going to have to
- 33:26make all their payments
- 33:27through those two apps to
- 33:28the athletes for NIL.
- 33:30And I found that like an
- 33:31interesting switch in what
- 33:34college sports are doing
- 33:35with that so that it can be
- 33:37tracked electronically how
- 33:39much is going to who and where and when.
- 33:46I mean,
- 33:46there's no rules around it right now,
- 33:47so they can do whatever the
- 33:49hell they want.
- 33:51But I do like the fact that
- 33:52at least it's being tracked somewhere.
- 33:54And so when they do put some
- 33:55rules in place,
- 33:56it might be able to be
- 33:57tracked a lot better.
- 34:03So Alito, super late to the game,
- 34:06just popped in to say hi.
- 34:08Alito, you showed up for the bad part.
- 34:10So go back to the beginning
- 34:12if you want to listen to anything.
- 34:14That was the fun part.
- 34:16But with that, guys, we'll call it a day.
- 34:20I have an appointment this
- 34:21afternoon that I have to get to.
- 34:23So I'm going to deal with that.
- 34:27And then I'll be back
- 34:27tomorrow for lunch with the
- 34:29Clydesdale on a Friday.
- 34:31And yeah, train to live.
- 34:37I got to run.
- 34:38But Scott,
- 34:38thank you for always doing your
- 34:39lunch shows.
- 34:40I'm recovering from surgery.
- 34:41It's been the best part of my day.
- 34:43Awesome.
- 34:44We love having you here.
- 34:48Ciao.
- 34:49All right, guys.
- 34:51You knuckleheads, get back to work.
- 34:53I'll see you all tomorrow on
- 34:54Lunch with the Clydesdale.
- 34:57Bye, guys.
