- 0:03Hey guys, this is the Daily Ripples, and today is June 29th, the Quiet Ripper.
- 0:11The stone, impact does not require force.
- 0:14Real change spreads naturally through a life that is lived well.
- 0:18Ripple 1 practical, today I will focus on living rightly rather than trying to control outcomes.
- 0:24I do not need to convince or impress others.
- 0:26Consistency in my actions will speak louder than words.
- 0:30ripple too spiritual jesus often works work quietly yet his impact spread far beyond what
- 0:37was seen in the moment as i follow him the holy spirit uses my daily life to influence others in a
- 0:44way i may never fully see the father creates a ripple effect through simple faithfulness
- 0:51I like how
- 0:53Pastor Mike
- 0:55you know put the ripple
- 0:57effect you know
- 0:58I didn't realize after a couple months
- 1:01that
- 1:03he was like you know what the
- 1:04stone's about and it just came
- 1:06to me because
- 1:08the stone you throw in the water and it makes
- 1:11ripples and I was like wow
- 1:13and you know
- 1:14it's funny you know so when I see little things
- 1:17like this it's cool because I
- 1:18And yeah, I see what he's doing there.
- 1:20And, you know, it's cool.
- 1:22But, you know, so when I read this, you know, and I was kind of thinking, like I was kind
- 1:27of reading on some different Bible stuff.
- 1:29And 1 Thessalonians 4.11 says,
- 1:36Make it your ambition to lead a quiet life, to mind your own business, and to work with
- 1:41your hands, just as we told you, so that your daily life may win the respect of outsiders
- 1:48and so that you will not be dependent upon anybody.
- 1:54And so when I think about, like, you know, leaving a quiet life, and I mean, I think about
- 1:57my old friend, Doug, and he used to tell me, he was like, you know, Corey, you know, you
- 2:04got to fill up your glass, so you need to help someone and not tell somebody about it.
- 2:09But I heard my other friend talk about him.
- 2:12He was like, yeah, he used to always talk about what he was doing.
- 2:16And the reason being is because he would say that so he can go fill up his glass again.
- 2:22And, you know, so I think about that demonstration of, you know,
- 2:25showing about helping others and constantly having to go fill that glass up again.
- 2:30Because, you know, man, it's the coolest thing in the world, getting those God shots.
- 2:36My friend talks about that, you know, these little God shots.
- 2:42Man, he's been working in the recovery field for 25 years,
- 2:49and he was telling me that some days he just wants to give up,
- 2:53and then he'll be walking through Kroger,
- 2:55and somebody will walk up and say something to him,
- 2:59because he's been doing it for a long time,
- 3:01and it'll really impact him and put him back in the work.
- 3:05But this helping others like that was interesting.
- 3:10And then when I was reading the First Theolozians, I hope that's how you say that.
- 3:17Pastor Mike's not on here to Thessalonians, maybe.
- 3:20First Thessalonians, yeah.
- 3:24It says, make it your ambition to lead a quiet life, to mind your own business, to work with your hands.
- 3:31And then I was thinking about in the big book of Alcoff Synonymous, and this is a really meaningful thing to me.
- 3:39It says, those of us who have spent, it's on page 130, by the way, I'm sorry.
- 3:44Those of us who have spent much time in the world of spiritual make-believe have eventually seen the childishness of it.
- 3:52This dream world has been replaced by a great sense of purpose accompanied by a growing consciousness of the power of God in our lives.
- 4:02We have come to believe He would like us to keep our heads in the clouds with Him, but that our feet ought to be firmly planted on earth.
- 4:09That is where our fellow travelers are, and that is where our work must be done.
- 4:15You know, there's another must in there, right?
- 4:17Must be done.
- 4:18Our fellow travelers and those where our work must be done.
- 4:21I think that's important.
- 4:23You know, I think about my head's in the clouds with him,
- 4:26and I think about, I think I talked about this not too long ago,
- 4:30but, you know, meditation and, you know, getting quiet,
- 4:34breathing, and finding that, you know, rhythm of however you want to do it,
- 4:38but, you know, it suggests prayer and meditation.
- 4:43And so I think, you know, the prayer part's me talking to God,
- 4:47and then the meditation part is probably God talking to me.
- 4:52and you know it's that seemed true to me in my life today and that's how it's worked and
- 4:56um i find calmness in that and different forms of meditation i think you know you can even you
- 5:02know relate meditation if i'm not mistaken to writing um but i i today like to get quiet
- 5:10um and then you know but then it goes on to say but our feet ought to be firmly planted on earth
- 5:17because I don't want to get too far up in the mountain, right?
- 5:20Because if I'm, you know, and I find myself, you know,
- 5:22and I had to watch it, and a friend of mine told me,
- 5:24he was like, one day he was like,
- 5:26Corey, you sound like you're talking from a place of spiritual arrogance.
- 5:31And I don't ever want to be like that.
- 5:33I don't ever want to think that I'm better than I am
- 5:35because, man, at the end of the day,
- 5:36I'm just a drunk trying to stay sober
- 5:39and trying to lead a life that, you know, is a good life.
- 5:44It's something that, you know,
- 5:45You know, I was thinking about, like, my dad.
- 5:47You know, my dad's passed away.
- 5:49And I'm reading a book.
- 5:53It's William James Varieties of a Religious Experience.
- 5:58And, you know, it was talking about people that have healthy minds, that find God and just, you know, go on with their life.
- 6:10But, you know, there's a firstborn and there's a secondborn, right?
- 6:14And the second born, you know, that's the next chapter after that is the sick soul.
- 6:22And it's about these people that, you know, come in with a sick soul.
- 6:25And I was one of those.
- 6:26But my dad wasn't.
- 6:28Man, my dad, you know, he was big in the church.
- 6:30He was big in the Bible.
- 6:32And, you know, I just didn't have that connection at that time.
- 6:36And it wasn't, you know, a lot for me to be there.
- 6:39But, you know, I think about that, too, because, you know, if it had been, I wouldn't be here.
- 6:45and I wouldn't be in a position to be of service to the people I'm best of service to,
- 6:51my fellow travelers.
- 6:53And the best people I'm of service to are the people that are just like me.
- 6:58So when I go through this and I'm able to do that,
- 7:02so my head's in the clouds with him and my feet's firmly planted,
- 7:06I think all that's like how it looks to me in today's deal.
- 7:13Then the Ripple One Practical says,
- 7:15today I'll focus on living rightly
- 7:17rather than trying to control outcomes.
- 7:19I do not need to convince or impress others.
- 7:23My ego, I got a big ego,
- 7:27and I have to keep it.
- 7:28You know, I got to watch.
- 7:30I'm not keeping it anywhere.
- 7:32I have to watch.
- 7:33You know, page 84 says,
- 7:36well, this is interesting,
- 7:37and I'll just figure this out,
- 7:38and I'm figuring out new things.
- 7:40I figure out new things about this literature all the time,
- 7:43I got kind of excited today about figuring this out or hearing someone else talk about it.
- 7:48I didn't figure nothing out.
- 7:50But on page 84, it says, continue to watch.
- 7:56Watch as vigilant.
- 7:58Stay vigilant like at a red light anyways for selfishness, dishonesty, resentment, and fear.
- 8:03When these crop up, because they're going to crop up, right?
- 8:07We ask God at once to remove them.
- 8:09Not like, secondly, it says at once.
- 8:12I think that's immediately.
- 8:14We discuss them with someone immediately.
- 8:16And I need to do better at that.
- 8:18And it says, make amends quickly if we've harmed anyone.
- 8:22So if I've cussed someone out, I need to make amends quickly through this process.
- 8:27Then we resolutely turn our thoughts to someone we can help.
- 8:30So that's four instructions.
- 8:33The fifth instruction is love and tolerance of others is our code.
- 8:38And so when I think about love and tolerance of others as our code, I would go to, I think it's page 19.
- 8:47Most of us sense that real tolerance of other people's shortcomings and viewpoints and respect for their opinions are attitudes.
- 8:55So my perspective, which make us more useful to others.
- 9:00And the last sentence is probably another very important sentence.
- 9:03It's on page 20.
- 9:03Our very lives as ex-problem drinkers depend upon our constant thought of others and how we may help their needs.
- 9:10So we got love and tolerance of others is our code.
- 9:13That's number five.
- 9:14That's the fifth thing.
- 9:15It's the fifth instruction.
- 9:17And then the sixth instruction, which this blew my mind because I'm not too good with English language.
- 9:24That wouldn't be English language, whatever that is.
- 9:27Because it says, and we have ceased fighting anything or anyone, even alcohol.
- 9:32So I've never combined that.
- 9:36So when you started, what I've found out is when you start a new paragraph with and,
- 9:43it combines the thought of the other paragraph.
- 9:46So I thought, and we've ceased finding anything or anyone, even alcohol.
- 9:51I thought that was a whole other thought.
- 9:52So I thought that was a promise, not an instruction.
- 9:57So I think I've said it on here too.
- 9:59I thought that was a promise as well.
- 10:01But today I found that's an instruction.
- 10:03So you've got six parts in this of when these things crop up.
- 10:08And I thought that was really cool because I like when I find new little things in this book.
- 10:13And, you know, it's crazy.
- 10:14Every time I read it, it's something new.
- 10:18Then it goes on, consistency in my actions will speak louder than words.
- 10:24You know, my life today, you know, it's so cool.
- 10:30Me and my significant other, we used to meet these couples and stuff.
- 10:36Because my sponsor and his wife took us in.
- 10:41I'd say that like we were homeless.
- 10:43I mean, you might as well then.
- 10:46But they took us in for dinner every Sunday.
- 10:50And showed us how to eat like humans.
- 10:52We prayed.
- 10:56That's how they showed us through their life how they were.
- 11:01And we get the chance to do that today with other people.
- 11:06And to be examples of that.
- 11:08So consistency in my actions will speak louder than words.
- 11:13My family's consistent.
- 11:15We are.
- 11:16And sometimes consistency can get boring for some reason, but sometimes it doesn't.
- 11:19And it's really cool.
- 11:21Because the outcomes are better than I should ever have expected to be today.
- 11:26Um, anyways, that's all I got for today.
- 11:31Prayer, Father, help me live faithfully each day.
- 11:35Through your Spirit, use my life to reflect your truth,
- 11:37and let it impact each other in ways only you can accomplish through your Son.
- 11:42Amen.
- 11:42Amen.
