• 0:01
Speaker A: He was born on a Saturday in 73 he loves punk rock music fighting the 13 jabbing the dazzle on the beat Guitar with the short with radio.
• 0:13
  Speaker B: Back.
• 0:15
Speaker A: His motherfucking envy Scrolling look at motherfucker, cuz here he comes Andy scrolling.
• 0:25
Speaker B: Wearing his orange hat welcome to unsigned 518. I'm back again. What, for the fucking third? Fourth time.
• 0:34
  Speaker A: Maybe more.
• 0:35
Speaker B: Maybe more. But I'm here with Mikey Bash for a special reason, I guess because this is the 200th episode of Unsigned 5 and 8, and that is not including any special episodes or any weekend spotlights.
• 0:50
Speaker A: So just straight unsigned, the interviews, the regular, or I would guess that you would count like a Halloween episode or something like that. No. Okay. Nope. Because those are the specials.
• 1:01
Speaker B: Those are the specials. Like the quote unquote numbered episodes going or, you know, so if it says unsigned 5 and 8 number, you know, 192 or whatever. But any Halloween episodes, any album release episodes I've had, you know, any quote unquote special episodes do not get a number assigned to them. They're superfluous. But I saw just before you got here, I have 321 episodes.
• 1:30
Speaker A: That was what I was. That's what I was going to ask next is how many is it total? But that's. Well, congratulations on 200 of this. It's special. It is special. And it's good to celebrate. I think when you. When you do accomplish certain things, it's. And that. That's a. That's a good thing.
• 1:44
Speaker B: Yes. And we just like. I kind of just realized that. I was like, oh, fuck. Like 200th episode's coming up. And then I was like, hey, Mikey, what are you doing this week?
• 1:52
Speaker A: Yeah, you texted me. I was like, all right. We got to go early, though, because I got to see the Bills game. Hopefully they win and we're people to be listening back. And they're going to. If the Bills really screw it up, it's going to be.
• 2:00
Speaker B: Right. Yeah. And as we're into this, it's early Sunday morning.
• 2:04
Speaker A: Y. And yeah, no traffic on the way up. We were talking about that earlier. Super quick.
• 2:09
Speaker B: Super quick. You were like, I don't know why those. And I'm like, well, I mean, it's early Sunday morning, I guess. Like, everybody's at church, I guess.
• 2:17
Speaker A: Yeah. I got here 20 minutes earlier than I thought I would, so it was sweet.
• 2:21
Speaker B: But yeah, you're going to play a song later, like a new version of a classic Sugar Hole tune. But we'll. We'll get to that. Yeah, but you were the first guest ever on unsigned 518. And I remember like, I'm going to just go back and tell the story of the beginning for those that may have joined the show later or whatever. But it started when I had quit drinking. One of those little three month periods. The first one, I did that like two or three times.
• 2:52
  Speaker A: Right.
• 2:52
Speaker B: Like I'm not going to drink for three months. Just see what happens.
• 2:55
Speaker A: Make sure you could do it.
• 2:56
Speaker B: Make sure I could do it.
• 2:58
  Speaker A: Exactly.
• 2:58
Speaker B: And the first time I did it I was like, I. I want something to fill the space. Because the reason I stopped wasn't like, oh. I'm like, oh, rock bottom. And you know, whatever.
• 3:08
Speaker A: It was just like, just like, boy, you know, I'm doing, I'm drinking a lot. Maybe I should tone it down.
• 3:13
Speaker B: I'm drinking more than I should.
• 3:14
  Speaker A: Yeah.
• 3:14
Speaker B: And it was like affecting my productivity. Like I was finding myself just chilling on Sundays instead of doing anything productive because I was hungover.
• 3:25
Speaker A: You also mentioned your bass player. Yeah, yeah. Was worse when you weren't drinking.
• 3:32
Speaker B: Yeah, Since I stopped drinking, it's a year and a half at this point. I'm 18 or. Yeah, 18 months in at this point. And my bass playing has gotten significantly better because I fucking care more. Like, you know, playing shows isn't necessarily just a party with guitar. It's like I'm here to perform and it's a job, like.
• 3:49
Speaker A: But still a party with guitar.
• 3:51
Speaker B: Correct. But like I take it seriously and notes matter more to me now.
• 3:57
Speaker A: Yeah. Especially when you're holding on that low end, man.
• 3:59
Speaker B: Yeah, yeah. But anyway, so I, yeah, I needed something to do and Spotify had actually been sending me these emails because we had just signed the band up for like the fucking creators account or whatever. And it kept sending me these emails being like, hey, start a podcast. Yeah, like start a podcast. And I had done podcasts before.
• 4:21
Speaker A: You've done radio and I've done radio.
• 4:23
Speaker B: I actually something year, 30 years.
• 4:25
Speaker A: It took like, it took a while for me to realize. But I remember hearing one you did with maybe Party Boat back in the day. I feel like, yeah, they were the.
• 4:32
Speaker B: Very first music related. They were. That was like the, that was in 2012. And that was the, you know, the first time I'd attempt, you know, because the structure for the show came in the early 2000s at EQX doing EQ exposure.
• 4:48
  Speaker A: Right.
• 4:48
Speaker B: I created the interview song. Interview song, interview out, you know, whatever. Not created it, but that's like what I chose as my format. And then I attempted it through podcast with Party Boat with like, you know, Mary Lee Ruin and Ben Garrett, all those guys and James Gascoigne. And then I. That just never. I never really did anything.
• 5:12
Speaker A: Yeah, that was it. Yeah.
• 5:14
Speaker B: Yeah. So I had, you know, I was like, I can do it. Like, I know how to do it. I have everything that I needed. So I was like, you know what? Fuck it, I'm going to do it. And I just did it, like through Spotify, then quickly realized that just Spotify wasn't the way to go and, you.
• 5:32
Speaker A: Know, whatever and expanded.
• 5:33
Speaker B: And here we are.
• 5:34
Speaker A: Yeah. Yeah. And here we are at 200.
• 5:36
Speaker B: 200 regular episodes. And now I don't even host the Weekend Spotlight. Right now. We got BJ Swinghammer.
• 5:42
Speaker A: BJ Swinghammer. I'm familiar. I'm familiar with that one.
• 5:45
  Speaker B: The theme song.
• 5:46
Speaker A: Sure did. We sure did. And that we've. We've. So that is actually. That was the first of two, like, jingles we've done this. So we just. I don't know if you. If you heard me talking about this at the Hootenanny, which we just played at the closing, a single cut rip. But we're doing a jingle for the Sugar Hold My band that is doing a jingle for eqx.
• 6:11
  Speaker B: Oh, no.
• 6:12
Speaker A: They are going to have a segment called what's Wrong with My Whip Wednesday? Kind of like a car talk kind of thing.
• 6:20
  Speaker C: And.
• 6:23
Speaker A: They'Re going to have Scotty from Coggins Auto on there answering people's questions about their cars. And so they approached us about doing the jingle. So we. Earlier this year we did the show where we were Ritz Carlton's backing band for his jingle cassette tape release party at Indian Ladders. Then we did the BJ Swinghammer theme song. And now we're doing what's Wrong with My Whip Wednesday. So we went in earlier this month, actually re recorded one of our songs, good to Me. Yeah, yeah, which is about driving a shitty car. But we had to change some of the lyrics, if you can imagine.
• 6:55
Speaker B: You can't say motherfucker probably on the radio.
• 6:58
Speaker A: Correct. So we just do a bunch of what you're looking at. So it's what you're looking at, what you're looking at. What you're looking at.
• 7:02
Speaker B: Yeah, but the people that know will know.
• 7:04
Speaker A: Yeah. So, yeah, if you. If you're not familiar with the song, the chorus goes, what you looking at, motherfucker?
• 7:11
Speaker B: Yeah. And then Motherfucker.
• 7:13
Speaker A: Yeah, Motherfucker, what you looking at? So we changed that up. We changed a Couple of the lyrics in the first verse so that it says, what's wrong with my whip today? And so we went with Rob Fleming from Roseway at the studio in the stockade and recorded. Re. Recorded that. Because again, Jesse wasn't on that. On that first album, and Cola hadn't joined until after we released that album. So it sounds a bit different now than it did then. It's faster. It's things like that. So 30 second tune that'll be on.
• 7:49
  Speaker B: Sweet.
• 7:49
Speaker A: Yeah. EQX every Wednesday starting in January. Yeah.
• 7:52
Speaker B: So check out BJ Swinghammer on weekend Spotlight. Those episodes every Thursday. And. And, you know, it was funny. I was talking to BJ last night and I was saying, you know, if you want, like, with the holidays coming up, you know, he's got a family and everything. I was like, if you want, like, take it. Take a week or two off from doing the Spotlight and focus on Holiday. And he was like, no, I'd rather not. He's like, I. I want to do it. I've already got ideas for the show. I'm gonna do it. And I was like, yeah, bring it on.
• 8:19
  Speaker A: He's a great. He's a great dude.
• 8:21
Speaker B: Yeah. Hell yeah. And he fell so easily into that. Yeah. Like, he had no radio experience, no podcast experience, nothing.
• 8:30
Speaker A: He just. Nothing. He's got the gift of gab and.
• 8:33
Speaker B: He, like, is a fan of local music. You know what I mean? Like, he. For years, like, he's been.
• 8:39
Speaker A: He makes his own bootleg merch.
• 8:41
  Speaker B: Yeah.
• 8:41
Speaker A: Patches and stuff. Shows up to shows with sugar.
• 8:43
Speaker B: Old patches on his jacket, like short.
• 8:45
Speaker A: Wave, like, yeah, give me one of those, man.
• 8:49
Speaker B: Yeah. But it was such an easy choice. And again, I remember just being like, hey, I'm like, kind of running out of time, like with Metroland and the band and all the, like, you know, I'm like, how would you feel about taking over the Weekend Spotlight as host? And he literally responded, yep, all right, I'm on.
• 9:08
  Speaker A: You're. You're in.
• 9:09
  Speaker B: It's yours.
• 9:09
Speaker A: It's cool. It's a good thing. Yeah, it's. He's a great dude. Great fit, great show. Does. Does good work letting people know what's going on.
• 9:22
Speaker B: And so easily fell into, like, the routine, like, from a producer stand, you.
• 9:27
Speaker A: Know, because, yeah, he gets it recorded.
• 9:28
Speaker B: He gets it recorded, gets it over to me so that I can edit it together and. And get it out. And it's.
• 9:34
Speaker A: He's also like a grown man. He like says his together.
• 9:37
Speaker B: Right. But it is. It is funny because he does he does constantly leave things in just for me to, like, to see if, you know, like, he'll, like, say something. He'll be like, go ahead and edit that out, Andy. Yeah, or like, like what you think of that, you know, so it's. It's funny because as a producer, I have to, like, stay on my toes so that none of the. Actually, none of BJ with me ends up in the actual. Or one of these days I'm just gonna.
• 10:04
Speaker A: Oh, that's so fun.
• 10:05
  Speaker B: But yeah.
• 10:06
Speaker A: Yeah, so that's. It makes me think of. Because I'm part of a podcast that's going to be launching at some point in the.
• 10:15
Speaker B: I was a guest on that future.
• 10:16
Speaker A: You were going to be our first guest.
• 10:17
  Speaker B: Oh, really?
• 10:19
Speaker A: You were our first guest because, remember, we were you. Because we knew that you would understand if there were any snafus. Any tech issues, which there were a.
• 10:29
Speaker B: Little bit, but nothing.
• 10:30
Speaker A: Yeah, I mean, things I've seen at the Jive Hive, things like that. But yeah. So I'm. So I'm part of a podcast. I'm not gonna say it's my podcast because I'm more of the co host, sidekick kind of role podcast. It's Mel. Yeah, Mel Bailey, and it's called the Ox Exchange. There's a bunch of people working on.
• 10:49
Speaker B: And not ox as in, like, you know, babe, the big blue ox, like ox as in cable.
• 10:57
Speaker A: So, yeah, that's one where we have people bring in 10 songs and then we. We talk about the 10 songs, their playlist.
• 11:03
Speaker B: You know, it's funny, I didn't Even remember what 10, because I. I always do everything spur of the moment. And like, when you asked for the 10 songs, like, I didn't like, deeply, deeply think. Yeah, I was just like, what are the first 10 important songs to me that come to mind right fucking now.
• 11:18
Speaker A: Right. I can't. I can't think of it. I could pull it up and I'd have it on.
• 11:22
Speaker B: I mean, I remember a couple of them.
• 11:24
Speaker A: I remember one that was, like, really tough to find. There was one that you had had like a demo.
• 11:29
  Speaker B: Yeah.
• 11:29
  Speaker A: Or something.
• 11:31
Speaker B: It was like a Young Turk song and not like the rapper, but they were like, weird, like, metal calypso band from Miami that released like one album in 1992 and then went away. And then like, something happened with management or something where you can't get the album. You can't find the album.
• 11:50
Speaker A: Yeah, she found one version of the song because she. She uses YouTub, which is. Which is like, how the. Did you find that song, like, that's crazy.
• 12:02
  Speaker B: I haven't heard this in 30 years.
• 12:04
Speaker A: But we. Yeah, we had a bunch of different people on and. And a lot of people took different approaches to. To the. The playlist, too. Some did just songs that mean things to them. Some brought songs that reminded them of certain people or times in their life. Some people brought on, like, Chris Sewell from Van Dyke Bootleg Karaoke. He brought on. He did his favorite karaoke songs, which was really a fun one. And then. Yeah, and then we had people from. Not just music, though, but also the community. So we had Bob Carot, who's the director of the Schenectady Foundation. We had Betsy Sandberg from Jazz on Jay Kids Arts Festival.
• 12:50
Speaker B: And when does that. Like, you've. Because you've got a bunch in the can, right?
• 12:54
Speaker A: We recorded the whole season, and we need to meet to discuss, like, exactly where it's going from there. I think that it's the whole. It's in the editing process now, which is crazy because it's also. It's a video.
• 13:07
Speaker B: I was just going to say. Yeah, that's the one thing where I'm like, you know, because the audio, like, I can fucking. I can have this podcast released 10 minutes after you leave.
• 13:17
  Speaker A: Yeah.
• 13:17
Speaker B: But, like, with video, I'm like, that's a whole different thing.
• 13:20
Speaker A: So when. When they first approached me, it. I was thinking that they wanted me as a. In a technical aspect.
• 13:30
  Speaker B: Right.
• 13:31
Speaker A: It's as like a video or audio, something through my. From my experience with the Jive Hive and things like that. But they wanted me as talent. And the one thing I told them is that I. The one. I do not want to edit the video. That's one thing I don't want to do because I know it's gonna be tough.
• 13:48
Speaker B: Yeah. I mean, that's what I do for work. And that's kind of why I don't do video editing for this podcast, because I'm like, I know how long it takes and how hard it is to, like, sync up with the audio. And, like, any edit you make in the audio has to be matched with the bit. Like, it's just. It's a lot. I mean, it's great and it looks great, and it's. It's worth it, but holy shit, is it a lot of work.
• 14:10
Speaker A: Yeah. Yeah. So I just wanted to stay away from that. So we're. We're figuring all that out. But that'll be, you know, once it gets rolling, we'll be. We'll be good to go because we have it all, like I said, in a can. So I think we did like 10 to 12 episodes. I can't exactly remember how many we recorded all at Proctors, part of the Open Stage Media. So it'll also, I think, be airing on Openstage Media. It's. It'll be on the public access channel, which would be cool. Oddly, something that I always had wanted to have, like a show on public access ever since I was a kid. I think it was a Wayne's World kind of thing. And then I can remember. I can remember in like, in like, fifth grade, you get these little, like, magazines they'd give you, and they'd have just different stories about, like, sort of current events or whatever. And I remember reading about a kid who had a show on public access, and I was really, like, interested in that. And it was before the Internet, so I couldn't just go look it up. That was all I had was just that article. And then I was like, man, that would be really fun if I did that. So now here we are. Yeah.
• 15:15
Speaker B: Yeah. I mean, I always wanted to be a radio guy, like, without. You know, I never wanted to be, like, on TV or anything. I just always wanted to be a radio guy. Now I'm kind of doing it.
• 15:24
Speaker A: Yeah, I mean. Yeah, that. Whatever radio is these days. Right.
• 15:28
  Speaker B: Yeah, this counts.
• 15:29
Speaker A: I think I do listen to a little. A decent amount of radio, but it's mostly talk radio, actually.
• 15:35
Speaker B: I. Yeah, I mean, I. I used to work in talk radio for. And it was for Clear Channel, so it was like talk radio that I wouldn't necessarily say aligns with my. Yeah, actually, yeah, I. It was a lot of fucking right wing shit. And like, not to get too political, but, like, that ain't me, man. Yeah, it was really hard to, like, work within that.
• 16:01
Speaker A: I feel like it was probably different, a little bit different back then. It wasn't probably.
• 16:06
Speaker B: Yeah, this was this. Yeah, definitely. This was like George W. Days, you.
• 16:12
Speaker A: Know, like, we really thought we had it bad.
• 16:15
  Speaker B: Right, Right.
• 16:16
  Speaker A: We did, but.
• 16:17
  Speaker B: We did. But.
• 16:18
  Speaker A: But.
• 16:20
Speaker B: It was the worst so far.
• 16:23
  Speaker A: The classic. Classic.
• 16:26
Speaker B: But, yeah, that was really tough to. But, like, I do listen to a lot of talk radio, but I like talk radio. That's talking about movies and music and pop culture stuff.
• 16:37
  Speaker A: Right.
• 16:37
Speaker B: I don't, you know, political stuff. I can't really. No matter what side of the aisle it is.
• 16:43
  Speaker A: It's rough.
• 16:44
  Speaker B: It's.
• 16:44
Speaker A: Yeah. I mean, I listen to a lot of sports.
• 16:47
Speaker B: There you go. That's, like, perfect. There's not a ton of Politics in there, you know, so.
• 16:52
Speaker A: No, yeah, yeah, but so that's, that's the, that's, you know, so that's some of the new stuff. We over proctors. We do, we do the, the I'm part of the Eddie Awards over there and there's a bit of a change in how that's all going now where they're gonna have an open nomination period. You saw that.
• 17:14
  Speaker B: I, I didn't see that.
• 17:15
Speaker A: Yeah. So I think it opens at the end or at the beginning of the year. And so what it is is that you're. There's going to be open nominations so you can nominate a band for a certain category. It's still going to be whittled down by the committee.
• 17:29
  Speaker B: Sure.
• 17:29
Speaker A: And the voters, but this will get.
• 17:32
Speaker B: More of a street level awareness maybe.
• 17:35
Speaker A: Yeah, exactly. And then, and, and you know, and, and hopefully open people's eyes to some of those, those bands that may have been overlooked and try to get rid of just the. This band's been around for 20 years, so they should be in it even if they're not playing really around here or playing original music anymore.
• 17:52
Speaker B: Yeah, like there's, there was like some bands that like I was kind of like, they're not really local anymore.
• 17:58
Speaker A: Yeah, I mean like, so, so I think some of that and then, so yeah, from my understanding, and, and I missed the last meeting. I think I had a Hive show that I wasn't. Wasn't going to miss because I've definitely taken some at the Hive and things like that. But so they're the open nomination. So anyone can nominate a certain band for a particular category. Then we'll do a meeting of the.
• 18:27
Speaker B: Advisory committee and they go, every name.
• 18:31
Speaker A: They go, we'll go. They'll. They'll go over. They'll probably have how many times they were voted for on there and then we can go down from there because, you know, you're bound to see like, probably not this example, but like if you were to see like Angelina Valente for best punk Band, you know, like, you know, like she's punk as fuck.
• 18:53
Speaker B: What are you talking about?
• 18:54
Speaker A: Yeah. So, you know, diy, you know, ethics and everything. Maybe we can give her that. But, but you know, like to make.
• 19:04
Speaker B: Sure everybody's categorized correctly.
• 19:06
Speaker A: So she's, she's obviously one of the best artists around, but she's not the best punk band. So you know, like that sort of thing.
• 19:14
Speaker B: Angelina, you're a very good punk band. Yeah.
• 19:17
Speaker A: Yeah. And you know, you don't want somebody's mom on There nominating them for every category repeatedly. Not to say that happened.
• 19:27
Speaker B: No, definitely not saying that.
• 19:33
Speaker A: Hey, you know, but I think this is. I think it's a good idea. And then it's also not like, open voting. It's not like, it's not. Oh, it's not. Anyone can vote for it. It's not. You know, your mom. Your mom's best friend from Arizona is. Is voting every day for you.
• 19:52
Speaker B: You know, it's just like a nomination, then it goes to the committee. Yeah, yeah, that makes sense. I mean, that makes sense. And especially, like, in this day and age, like, you could just make a bot to, like, you know, if it was strictly based on just voting, like, you could just make a bot to be, like, every day submit.
• 20:10
  Speaker A: Maybe I could.
• 20:10
Speaker B: No, no, certainly not me.
• 20:13
Speaker A: Somebody who could actually.
• 20:14
Speaker B: I, I, I definitely know several people that can.
• 20:17
  Speaker A: Yeah, I, I know. I know.
• 20:19
Speaker B: The only reason that I know that that can happen.
• 20:22
  Speaker A: Yeah.
• 20:22
Speaker B: Because I had somebody go, oh, dude, you. You want.
• 20:24
  Speaker A: You want this?
• 20:25
Speaker B: You want a thousand votes a day? It'll take me 10 seconds. Like, holy.
• 20:30
  Speaker A: Yeah.
• 20:30
Speaker B: Yeah. So that's a little. Little.
• 20:32
Speaker A: Yeah. So that sort of. To avoid that sort of thing. And then they're expanding for photographers and writers, too. They're doing a different thing where they're going to have them submit, I think three. Yeah, three different pieces. No watermarks on them or anything like that. So you're actually being judged on your art and not necessarily your name brand.
• 20:57
Speaker B: I mean, I could submit as a writer.
• 20:59
Speaker A: You absolutely could. I mean, I. Not. I don't think they're looking for reviews. They're looking for, like, features. But you also feature.
• 21:07
Speaker B: Yeah, I've done. I've done. I mean, I mostly do reviews, but I've done features.
• 21:13
Speaker A: And, like, you did. Just did the buggy jive one, right?
• 21:16
Speaker B: Yeah, I just did the COVID story.
• 21:17
Speaker A: Yeah. So, like. Yeah, that. That's the thing. So, you know, like, I, I don't want to call out any favorites, but there was one particular article about. There was one about. I'll just say it's Lucas Garrett's. Did a really good article about Zorbus Trio earlier this year.
• 21:35
Speaker B: I love those. Zorbist Trio are sweet humans, too, by the way.
• 21:39
Speaker A: Yeah, that's what introduced me to them, actually. That's how I learned here. They were great. So I, you know, like, that's like. So, like, I would be surprised if he didn't submit that. You know, like, that's.
• 21:52
Speaker B: Yeah, I'm gonna submit.
• 21:53
Speaker A: Yeah, yeah, yeah. And then the photographer is a big one, too, I think, because there's a.
• 21:59
Speaker B: Lot of good ones.
• 22:00
Speaker A: Yeah. And it would be taught. And it's tough to be like, you know, you gotta. You gotta decide. It's like, can we have three of the five from Metroland? Is that fair? But.
• 22:11
  Speaker B: Right.
• 22:12
Speaker A: With the. With the aspect of just judging by the photograph, the photographs themselves, the photographers work. It takes any of that sticky stuff out, I feel like.
• 22:26
Speaker B: And I mean, there's some photographers that certainly submit to multiple publications that aren't tied to one particular. Right.
• 22:33
Speaker A: Yeah. But, you know.
• 22:35
Speaker B: Yeah, if it's based on work alone, like, whatever, you know.
• 22:39
Speaker A: Yeah. And I mean. I mean, everything is always. It's an award show, so it's a. It's a. You know. Right, right. Yeah. What. What. It's important, but it's also not really, you know, like, it's cool to get recognized.
• 22:56
Speaker B: I think it's cool. Like, it is cool to get recognized, but I think more than anything, it. I think I appreciate the buzz it creates in the community.
• 23:04
  Speaker A: Yeah.
• 23:05
Speaker B: You know, like. And it's not like people like, fuck you. I'm gonna win. You're gonna lose.
• 23:09
Speaker A: But that's not our nomination.
• 23:11
  Speaker B: I'm nominated.
• 23:12
Speaker A: This is awesome. Like, just around here in general.
• 23:15
Speaker B: So I think it's important because of the buzz that it. It creates within the people of the scene. And, like, even with that. The Metroland thing with the Jimmy Fallon holding up the picture or whatever, a ripple that I didn't even think of was the bands that are in that.
• 23:33
  Speaker A: Oh, yeah. That.
• 23:34
Speaker B: You know, they got to be like, hey, I'm in that issue. You know what I mean?
• 23:38
Speaker A: Or you saying, that's my cover story that Jimmy Fallon's holding up right here?
• 23:43
Speaker B: And he read the story.
• 23:44
  Speaker A: Yeah.
• 23:45
Speaker B: And, like. And Aaron even said that he specifically asked, oh, who's, you know, who's Buggy Jive?
• 23:50
  Speaker A: Yeah.
• 23:51
Speaker B: And she was like, oh, you got to check him out. Like, he's awesome. And he was like, I'm gonna check him out. You know what I mean? So, like, Jimmy Fallon's. Listen to Buggy Jive.
• 23:58
Speaker A: Can you imagine if that leads to, like, Buggy Jive on.
• 24:01
Speaker B: I mean, why shouldn't it? He. He's good enough where he. He would be amazing on F. And, like, he deserves it. So that would be pretty cool if that happened.
• 24:12
Speaker A: Really cool. Yeah. It's also a great time for people to, you know, mix and mingle and network.
• 24:21
Speaker B: Yeah. I mean, one year I didn't even stay for the ceremony. Right. I came I drove from here, you know, the 45 minutes over, disconnected. He hung out for the pre show for two hours, and as soon as they were going into the show, I'm like, all right, I got to go. I got to work in the morning. But I was like, I'm not missing the pre show hang. Yeah, that's. That's the best. Best time of the year.
• 24:43
Speaker A: Yeah, that's. So. That's always cool. Good. Cool to see people there, you know, through the Jive Hive. I know a lot of people. We have a lot of. A lot of the local community has come through the jive Ive in one way or another. So it's always cool to see, you know, everybody there from the Hive. It's like a little mini reunion.
• 25:02
  Speaker B: Totally.
• 25:02
Speaker A: How we doing on time?
• 25:04
  Speaker B: Yeah, we're. I mean, we're.
• 25:05
  Speaker A: We're.
• 25:06
Speaker B: We're running a little long, but that's. That's fine. I still got a little bit of time.
• 25:10
Speaker A: All right, well, let's talk. Well, about the Jive Hive. We're not doing. Since I'm talking about the Hive. Sure. New year is booking up, starting out with Shannon. Taya.
• 25:21
  Speaker B: I'll be there.
• 25:21
  Speaker A: Yep. I think I Forget if it's January 6th. Something.
• 25:24
Speaker B: It is the 6th, because I remember what. I saw it. I was like, I remember something else that happened on the 6th of January.
• 25:32
Speaker A: That was together until just now. Until I said it out loud.
• 25:35
Speaker B: Well, because we played shortwave. Played the next two years after the January 6. On January 6, we had gigs and I was joking, you know, that, like, trying to.
• 25:46
Speaker A: Trying to change the.
• 25:47
Speaker B: Yeah, trying to change what?
• 25:48
Speaker A: The day. But that'll be really, really good. That Shannon and her band.
• 25:54
  Speaker B: Yeah.
• 25:54
Speaker A: Are awesome. Hunter. And then they've got Nocturne opening up.
• 25:58
Speaker B: Yeah, they were both here. Shannon and Nocturne came here and did.
• 26:02
Speaker A: They had a feature written about them. James did one in that. What? What? Great. What? Just great, folks. They're just doing good things. They care about their community.
• 26:13
Speaker B: Yeah. I like. I like their honesty and bravery to just, you know, to just be like, oh, nope, this isn't happening. I'm shouting rooftops. And like.
• 26:24
Speaker A: And, yeah, and. And, yeah, they're fantastic. They've come to the Hive a few times now. They've played, they've attended shows. I've put them to work. Hunter in particular, they walked in, I was like, I can trust you to come with me, you know, like, so really excited to have them do a full showcase there. We're not doing our traditional Oye party old Year's end, because the Nolanots are doing a New Year's Eve at Van Dyke Stella Pasta Bar, Seven Point Brewery in the Stockade in Schenectady. Historic jazz club. They're doing like a $35 Solo cup, and you're not drinking, but it's. You get a solo cup and it's like craft beer all night for the 35, and then just like, I think a regular $20 ticket. So we're going to be giving out the Jive Hive live Billy Joel at Madison Square Garden award, which traditionally goes to the person who's played the Jive Hive the most in a given year. But I'll tell you, it was like a six, seven way tie, so we had to figure out a way to figure something out. And I'm not going to give it away. I'll tell you off off air, but this will air before then, I'm sure. So I don't want to say it out loud.
• 27:46
Speaker B: Don't want to spoil it, but you'll.
• 27:48
Speaker A: You'll love it. We came up with a really great solution.
• 27:52
  Speaker B: Cool.
• 27:53
Speaker A: So that's the. That's the big thing for us, Nolan. Knots are killer if you don't know. Nine piece New Orleans funk band that bring the house down. So drinking, dancing, New Year's Eve, you don't have to dress up. I'm gonna. But you don't have to. So hang out.
• 28:09
  Speaker B: Cool.
• 28:10
Speaker A: Chill. Yeah. Oh, lots of stuff for the sugar hold in the new year, but we're not playing till February, so I don't need to promo that.
• 28:19
  Speaker B: Nice.
• 28:19
  Speaker A: Yeah.
• 28:20
  Speaker B: Okay.
• 28:20
  Speaker A: All right.
• 28:22
Speaker B: What. What else do we got before we get you to play us out, so to speak.
• 28:29
Speaker A: Well, I'm just really proud of you, Andy. Thanks, man. I've obviously. I remember the day you decided to start the podcast. You did a little teaser and you had a whole bidding war.
• 28:39
  Speaker B: Yeah.
• 28:40
Speaker A: And I remember talking to you about that. Yeah, like, holy.
• 28:43
Speaker B: Three fucking. Three local, like, places had reached out to me the day I put it out. And I didn't even announce that I put it out right. Like, so I'm like, I don't even know how anybody heard it, but I.
• 28:54
Speaker A: Think it's cool because obviously, Andy, xt, they did their whole thing, radio, tv, stuff over there. I think that you filled the nice little spot in the scene that helps everybody from the up and coming to the more established acts, just like we do at the Jive Hive. And I think that's really important. I think that you're. You're doing great work, and I'M really proud of you, and I'm really proud to be a part of it.
• 29:27
Speaker B: Thank you. And it's wild to think that two. Well, I mean, there's been some repeat guests, but basically 200 different local musicians have come into this room.
• 29:39
Speaker A: It's crazy. And that we have that many around.
• 29:42
Speaker B: And I barely scratched the surface. I barely. And there's so many that are coming up constantly that I'm like, oh, cool. There's a.
• 29:50
Speaker A: You know, it's like I was actually thinking back. I was thinking. Because I've met. I've met people through your podcast that I've Or. Or I've sent people to your podcast that I've met. Like this. It forms this community. Right. It's part of the community. You know, you come through the Drive Hive, you impress. We're going to definitely say, go ask Andy. Tell them we sent you sort of thing.
• 30:10
Speaker B: I've seen some of those, for sure.
• 30:11
Speaker A: Yeah. But I think that, like, I think back to when you had. I think it was Chad from Erie first on your podcast.
• 30:20
Speaker B: He was the first guest that I recorded.
• 30:24
Speaker A: Yeah. So that was like your second.
• 30:26
Speaker B: You were the first episode.
• 30:27
Speaker A: Right, but I recorded him in reverse order from anybody.
• 30:31
Speaker B: Neither did I. I knew here I was familiar with Eerie, but I didn't know any of them. I didn't know tj. I didn't know.
• 30:38
Speaker A: And that was, like, my first introduction to them, too. And, you know, like. And now we're, you know, great friends.
• 30:45
Speaker B: And it's fucking wild that the Hoot Nanny last weekend was the first show that you played with Erie.
• 30:50
Speaker A: Not for lack of trying.
• 30:51
Speaker B: Yeah, but that's. I was like.
• 30:52
Speaker A: We each asked each other probably half a dozen times each.
• 30:55
Speaker B: Yeah. And especially with how close the bands are, like, personal. Personal wise, I was like. I would have thought you played ten shows together.
• 31:02
  Speaker A: Exactly.
• 31:02
  Speaker C: Yeah.
• 31:03
Speaker A: No, and we've been to each other's shows plenty of times. It is insane. And we've supported each other the whole way. It's crazy. Like, we'll play. We'll play with you guys two, three times a year, it seems. Yeah. Yeah. But I actually. I have to talk to you about something else, too, so we'll talk about that after. After this goes. After we're done, too. I got a couple things to show you. All right.
• 31:26
  Speaker B: All right.
• 31:26
Speaker A: All right. Cool, man.
• 31:27
Speaker B: I got. I got a little time before my next guest.
• 31:30
  Speaker A: Yeah.
• 31:31
Speaker B: Well, I mean, I guess if there's nothing else you're gonna play, like, kind of like a reworked Sugar hold song here in the Den. And I'm gonna video it.
• 31:41
  Speaker A: Yes.
• 31:41
Speaker B: And put it up.
• 31:42
Speaker A: So. Yeah, get Up. One of our classic songs. It's slowed down a bit. It's a little. Little. It's just got a different vibe to it. And so I've been. I've done a couple solo shows. One I did acoustic. Not so great. I did another one that was. It was fine. It was fine. People that liked the Sugar hold liked it. Did you go to that? It was that single cut. Rob.
• 32:05
  Speaker B: Now, I wasn't there.
• 32:06
Speaker A: Rob Fleming loved it. I'll tell you. Rob loved it. And that's the only. That's. That's what made it good for me. People liked it. People thought it was fine, you know, but Rob loved it. I did another one for my boss where I did it more like this with the electric guitar, and it was much, much better. So you may see me do it a couple times a year sort of thing, so. All right.
• 32:26
Speaker B: Well. Well, Mikey, thank you for coming out here, like, kind of on short notice. When I was like, oh, fuck, if 200th episode is coming up, I need to get Mikey back.
• 32:34
  Speaker A: I had.
• 32:36
Speaker B: But, yeah, I appreciate you and I appreciate you coming out and. And I look forward to the next 200 episodes because I'm not gonna stop doing this even if people stop listening.
• 32:48
Speaker A: So I'll see you in 100.
• 32:49
Speaker B: Yeah, see, you know. Yeah, I'll have you back every 100 episodes. But right now, let's check out Mikey Bash of the Sugar Hole, doing a kind of a stripped down version of Get Up Here Live in the Dazzle Den. And I don't know, I guess just, you know, let's do the song.
• 33:31
Speaker C: We gonna run the streets Tonight we're gonna dance to the rhythm and the beat Tonight we're gonna smoke till we feel that heat Tonight Ain't no one that we can't beat Tonight we're gonna rock Gonna roll down again for death Tonight. We ain't ever gonna stop Tonight we'll probably run from the cops Tonight we'll be lucky if we don't get caught Tonight we'll roam until I get our ass lost Tonight we're gonna go. When I leave old Nowhere to go no wonder, see no place to be oh, yeah I know that I'm one step closer to finding a thing that gets me high.
• 35:20
  Speaker A: Sam.
• 35:47
Speaker C: When I leave home Nowhere to go no wonder, see no place to be oh, yeah I. One step closer to finding a thing that.
• 36:51
