- 1:09Speaker 1: The show starts in seven life eight seven six, five
- 1:22Speaker 1: four three two one go.
- 2:05Speaker 3: It's said, hold up, hey, everyone, welcome the sc book.
- 2:10Speaker 3: Guys in friends Chat. It's a Tuesday night and I'm
- 2:13Speaker 3: bringing you an all author but as soon to be
- 2:17Speaker 3: released book. Okay, so y'all remember about October maybe November
- 2:26Speaker 3: last year that a friend of mine, a real good friend,
- 2:30Speaker 3: close friend, y'all know it is release a book. Well,
- 2:36Speaker 3: guess what, you guys were coming back with another book,
- 2:40Speaker 3: his second release. But it's a total different from the
- 2:45Speaker 3: first book. So the first book we had love and
- 2:49Speaker 3: romance and drama and drugging and and some baby mask
- 2:57Speaker 3: and some fighting and some chattiness sen some all kind
- 3:01Speaker 3: of drama. But in this next one, we are bringing
- 3:06Speaker 3: it to the streets. This next book is what you
- 3:11Speaker 3: can consider a street urban novel. Now I know y'all
- 3:16Speaker 3: think of street urban novel. What is she talking about?
- 3:19Speaker 3: We'll discuss that later on. That's another show because we're
- 3:22Speaker 3: gonna break down this African American genre, okay, because books
- 3:27Speaker 3: just ain't an African American but we love back in.
- 3:32Speaker 3: I want to introduce you guys to author the Kendrick Northern,
- 3:36Speaker 3: and he's gonna talk about his soon toy release book,
- 3:40Speaker 3: Born from the Streets. Hello, miss Northern, how are you good? Dead?
- 3:49Speaker 3: And how are you sir?
- 3:54Speaker 4: So?
- 3:57Speaker 3: I had the chance to read this new novel Born
- 4:00Speaker 3: from the Streets, and I have to admit it is
- 4:04Speaker 3: a three sixty. Well I'm sorry from Flowers of be
- 4:10Speaker 3: So before we go any further and we talk about
- 4:12Speaker 3: this one, tell us a little bit about yourself.
- 4:17Speaker 4: Well, but like my.
- 4:17Speaker 2: Kids are knowing, uh the time, at the time, just
- 4:21Speaker 2: write down you know what I'm saying. I try to
- 4:23Speaker 2: express the back then they got some different respect from Wow,
- 4:28Speaker 2: I'm trying to away. Uh.
- 4:31Speaker 4: You know, I've been writing for quite a while.
- 4:34Speaker 2: But like I said, he's first two editions supported class
- 4:37Speaker 2: was really.
- 4:38Speaker 4: My first, my first baby.
- 4:40Speaker 2: So you have your first thing, you know, I'm saying,
- 4:43Speaker 2: look at him and look at a difference. You want
- 4:45Speaker 2: to get him out there, but you got people the
- 4:47Speaker 2: ball they lighted enough. I just did want to get
- 4:50Speaker 2: that out and held my ounther cove. Uh work the transition.
- 4:56Speaker 2: You know, I'm not saying that you ain't gonna like
- 4:58Speaker 2: the person you t.
- 5:02Speaker 3: Well, I must say that I saw on Facebook that
- 5:07Speaker 3: there's some people who are currently reading Flowers of Eve
- 5:10Speaker 3: and I'm seeing nothing but great reviews from it. How
- 5:14Speaker 3: do you think your readers are going to feel about
- 5:17Speaker 3: Born from the Streets?
- 5:21Speaker 4: Well, people have a different chies. How do you know?
- 5:29Speaker 2: You know, I'm not gonna just strict fail to get them.
- 5:32Speaker 2: Both are how you get into perspective read Bought from
- 5:40Speaker 2: the Streets, they'll be like, well, you know, I say,
- 5:43Speaker 2: it's it's pretty much bake, don't you know? But well,
- 5:47Speaker 2: the ministreets you don't pay one and don't drugs and robbery,
- 5:50Speaker 2: you know, struggle, you know, things like that, struggling up
- 5:54Speaker 2: in the clime.
- 5:58Speaker 3: And yes, that is true. When reading both of them,
- 6:03Speaker 3: I do think that Born in the Streets is more
- 6:08Speaker 3: of a male novel. But I do not like categorizing books,
- 6:15Speaker 3: but for words sake, we will say that it's more
- 6:23Speaker 3: of a male novel. Is that where you was going
- 6:27Speaker 3: for or you just wanted to create this novel because
- 6:34Speaker 3: you had that You had that vision for this book.
- 6:39Speaker 3: Was it gearly on first wrote for men? Or was
- 6:43Speaker 3: it just a vision.
- 6:46Speaker 2: Vision of a reason of my incartoration? Say I had
- 6:52Speaker 2: read a book. It was occupied this guy to have
- 6:56Speaker 2: it like having the same first to day he went
- 7:00Speaker 2: through and you know that's a whole lip story, just
- 7:05Speaker 2: playing with it, like you know what I'm saying for
- 7:09Speaker 2: because when I read the work, I've seen he going
- 7:11Speaker 2: to going through the confident and put him up.
- 7:14Speaker 4: You know what I'm saying. I feel like that I
- 7:16Speaker 4: can do this because.
- 7:18Speaker 2: The cloth you said street, I mean the street I'm saying.
- 7:23Speaker 2: It's like, really DC, they don't get up one of
- 7:25Speaker 2: the mind, you know what I'm saying. So everything pretty
- 7:26Speaker 2: wasn't say because people have a different experience. So I
- 7:30Speaker 2: feel you know, you don't work till the street story,
- 7:32Speaker 2: you know what I'm saying. So I said, I'm getting
- 7:34Speaker 2: shot because I had a dream and I've seen the
- 7:37Speaker 2: group in my dream, you know what I'm saying.
- 7:39Speaker 4: So everything's fine.
- 7:41Speaker 3: Keep the writer, Okay, Okay, So you saw that you
- 7:45Speaker 3: sat did the cover in your dreams and that means
- 7:49Speaker 3: you write the book. How did you started your character development?
- 7:55Speaker 3: Like I think, okay, okay.
- 8:00Speaker 2: Like the other side of the characters and that book
- 8:03Speaker 2: is pretty much you know, like the personalities and any
- 8:08Speaker 2: character that I came up in the streets. Now when
- 8:11Speaker 2: you read it, don't think that you know they're grinding,
- 8:14Speaker 2: but you know he is the personality and the prism
- 8:16Speaker 2: and stuff that's going. And they have the hand to
- 8:19Speaker 2: teach themselves.
- 8:20Speaker 4: In the books.
- 8:21Speaker 2: So it's kind of like experience that I went through myself,
- 8:24Speaker 2: you know what I'm saying, And you know, just let it.
- 8:26Speaker 2: We don't take any proper imagination to a little extra
- 8:30Speaker 2: little soup, you know there.
- 8:32Speaker 3: Okay, so tell us about the main characters of your book.
- 8:38Speaker 4: But the main characters.
- 8:39Speaker 2: If if a guy named nothing, you know, and uh
- 8:43Speaker 2: he had he had the girl, you know that they
- 8:46Speaker 2: might do a little separation.
- 8:47Speaker 4: But it's hard as I was.
- 8:48Speaker 2: You know, that's a teenager, you know, get in a
- 8:51Speaker 2: little trouble, you know what I'm saying in the streets,
- 8:53Speaker 2: and you could wait for a little while out there
- 8:55Speaker 2: and got and everything change.
- 8:58Speaker 4: So he's trying to do good.
- 9:00Speaker 2: He takes the problem, you know, the shot because you
- 9:03Speaker 2: don't have a mother and father, you know what I'm saying.
- 9:06Speaker 2: Reading in beginning, you understand why.
- 9:09Speaker 3: Right, And grandma's name was Nita, right Nita. Okay, So Dante,
- 9:20Speaker 3: I'm just calling deep because he got on my nerve,
- 9:24Speaker 3: And the reason why he got on the nerve is
- 9:26Speaker 3: because I felt like he kept looking for trouble. That's
- 9:34Speaker 3: the bob that I got.
- 9:37Speaker 4: Were you.
- 9:40Speaker 2: A lot of people would leave that, but if you
- 9:42Speaker 2: play what was going on in it? Yeah, he had
- 9:46Speaker 2: a design to know his father and in the streets
- 9:49Speaker 2: a lot of me. So I'm saying father present. You know,
- 9:55Speaker 2: I'm saying so a lot of times you may have mothers.
- 9:58Speaker 2: They have no prayers in the street. And y'all heard
- 10:01Speaker 2: the credit from his father saying credit. So he walked
- 10:06Speaker 2: until a day you know that he had it. So
- 10:10Speaker 2: he had he was struggled with that book. You know
- 10:12Speaker 2: what I'm saying. It's a big struggle, a lot of friction,
- 10:16Speaker 2: and he'll be fine when.
- 10:20Speaker 3: Yeah, because when you're gonna talk about how you make
- 10:22Speaker 3: the guy script naked and shot him, Like why you
- 10:26Speaker 3: got a script on naked to shoot him?
- 10:28Speaker 2: Like, I'm not about action, you know, relation streets. You
- 10:33Speaker 2: have so much time on the street and running certain things.
- 10:36Speaker 2: You know what I'm saying, it's it's just did you
- 10:38Speaker 2: know just.
- 10:41Speaker 4: Up you know it's just with something typical people?
- 10:46Speaker 3: Did you just say typical people? Typical people Okay, I'm
- 10:52Speaker 3: about to shoot you, so get naked. Like that's crazy.
- 10:55Speaker 3: And I had to read that twice. I was like, yo,
- 10:58Speaker 3: in in the cat, I'm not gonna tell y'all all
- 11:01Speaker 3: the characters. I'm not gonna do that, okay, because there's
- 11:04Speaker 3: a lot of characters in the books, and you see
- 11:09Speaker 3: you see the not coming together and how not has strands,
- 11:14Speaker 3: and you see it coming together when you read the book.
- 11:17Speaker 3: So I'm not gonna do that, Flowers, and you even
- 11:19Speaker 3: give y'all all the details. But this character, the scene
- 11:25Speaker 3: of him being killed jumped out me because he was begging.
- 11:30Speaker 3: He already knew he was going to die, all right,
- 11:33Speaker 3: he was begging. But I saw that he didn't have
- 11:37Speaker 3: any remorse for his death, Like why would he do
- 11:39Speaker 3: that when he okay, the same person we talked when
- 11:49Speaker 3: he told him to get naked and he killed him
- 11:52Speaker 3: like he was begging, He's like, you don't have to
- 11:55Speaker 3: do this, man. Why did you feel that humiliating him
- 12:00Speaker 3: in the book was so important in that scene? Like
- 12:06Speaker 3: you've killed other people off in the book, But why
- 12:09Speaker 3: humiliating that character that way? Was there a reason for that?
- 12:15Speaker 2: Is simple fact that he's trying to play the role
- 12:18Speaker 2: of his other you know things that it's just the
- 12:21Speaker 2: point we had over there, and that they didn't like, okay,
- 12:25Speaker 2: and certain certain people.
- 12:27Speaker 4: In like that.
- 12:30Speaker 2: I'm saying, once you get some big, get so big
- 12:33Speaker 2: you don't say anybody street code really really except gun
- 12:38Speaker 2: people gonna get it because the time, man, it miss
- 12:44Speaker 2: if it was breaking there. So when you when you
- 12:45Speaker 2: said a president in the street, you gotta gotta do
- 12:50Speaker 2: what you have to do.
- 12:52Speaker 3: And he had to kept him like that. I mean,
- 12:54Speaker 3: he had to do that. But how about Lisa. Lisa
- 12:59Speaker 3: is my definition of it's true. And I know we've
- 13:01Speaker 3: all heard it before, righty died. Tell us a little
- 13:06Speaker 3: bit about her?
- 13:09Speaker 2: Well, obviously do I said he was not school makes
- 13:11Speaker 2: you know, uh, he did what he did when you know,
- 13:15Speaker 2: he expected her to hold him down. But you know,
- 13:17Speaker 2: you know you're young like he was in the transformation
- 13:22Speaker 2: in his you got how he came to the typical
- 13:25Speaker 2: world were so I did to scratch you know how
- 13:27Speaker 2: they take crabs on the button. I'm saying, so so
- 13:29Speaker 2: I couldn't scratch him that so he had just covering
- 13:32Speaker 2: a few things about it, okay, But at the same time,
- 13:35Speaker 2: once she came back into her life, you know, I'm saying,
- 13:38Speaker 2: so he makes her don't think differently even though she
- 13:41Speaker 2: had own little world, thanks, but he had his own
- 13:44Speaker 2: real page.
- 13:45Speaker 4: They still had connect.
- 13:48Speaker 2: Understanding. Yeah, he end up had the first thing he had,
- 13:52Speaker 2: But he had to realize, you know, I'm depected on the.
- 13:55Speaker 3: Street, the street, fright, you know I'm saying, yeah, yeah,
- 14:01Speaker 3: but in some cases I felt at Lista it was
- 14:04Speaker 3: very naive, like they h all of all of everything
- 14:13Speaker 3: that was going on in a novel. She just was
- 14:19Speaker 3: this a pillar. But why did she have to endure
- 14:26Speaker 3: so much?
- 14:30Speaker 4: Well, you know, like like I.
- 14:32Speaker 2: Try to keep my doors like kind of like piss
- 14:36Speaker 2: really going on the street. And uh, I think that
- 14:39Speaker 2: that love love in the streets, Like I'm saying, it's
- 14:43Speaker 2: kind of different love back in the day, you know
- 14:46Speaker 2: what I'm saying.
- 14:46Speaker 4: So it's kind of like this on yourself. They're just
- 14:49Speaker 4: want to feel love, you know, And she had her
- 14:52Speaker 4: own find out it can't do that.
- 14:58Speaker 2: One we would see Okay, we're equal that, you know,
- 15:04Speaker 2: he said. You know, she didn't want to exposed, but
- 15:07Speaker 2: she can do.
- 15:11Speaker 3: Okay, I can see that. I can see that now,
- 15:15Speaker 3: Grandma or mother mis Neita, she played a big factor
- 15:22Speaker 3: in the beginning of the book. Why did you feel
- 15:24Speaker 3: that it was very important to have that older female
- 15:28Speaker 3: figure in the beginning setting of the book. Was that
- 15:33Speaker 3: planned or she's just let me put her in there
- 15:36Speaker 3: as a fuller or you know, what's the purpose of her?
- 15:41Speaker 2: I got to say, I try to keep everything you know.
- 15:44Speaker 2: You know, it'd be kind of a vision dans king
- 15:46Speaker 2: about everything, you know, but I try to kind of
- 15:49Speaker 2: like really, so you know, we all callow the guys
- 15:53Speaker 2: in the street out there when they want to hit
- 15:56Speaker 2: it at night. You got big Mama got their mumble man,
- 16:01Speaker 2: they got in the streets mumble praying I'm saying for
- 16:03Speaker 2: the baby come home and like something, because you know,
- 16:06Speaker 2: we we have Doug, you know, thinking we're grown and
- 16:10Speaker 2: we're doing this, but they have to have a praying
- 16:12Speaker 2: for ourselves and then turn over new me, you know,
- 16:14Speaker 2: saying so it's like you got to show the type
- 16:17Speaker 2: of little.
- 16:19Speaker 4: Messing that we know.
- 16:22Speaker 2: Man, they just want to say this and say that,
- 16:24Speaker 2: you know, and then they don't know what's going on
- 16:26Speaker 2: and what we go up through at the same time
- 16:28Speaker 2: they do. They can't do it too say they did
- 16:30Speaker 2: evolved to a better person. They try to show up
- 16:33Speaker 2: and then how it goes.
- 16:35Speaker 4: And what you come up with the.
- 16:36Speaker 2: Fact and they know that, hey, you know I can
- 16:39Speaker 2: do better. I needs but I can change my life,
- 16:42Speaker 2: you know, saying So that's.
- 16:43Speaker 4: How they time to put it in there like that.
- 16:46Speaker 3: Yeah, it's like it's like they knew how it was
- 16:51Speaker 3: when they were younger, and they know that this is
- 16:54Speaker 3: something that you're going to have to find for your own.
- 16:57Speaker 3: That that Agel song saying, you know it was Grandma's prayers.
- 17:05Speaker 3: You know, everybody has their mom, but it's something about
- 17:07Speaker 3: that granny prig That granny prayer is something. And I
- 17:11Speaker 3: love my granny and I miss both of them, so
- 17:13Speaker 3: I totally understand that. But let's go back into the
- 17:17Speaker 3: family dynamics between d and not having his father. That
- 17:25Speaker 3: is the typical fine in an African American street novel.
- 17:32Speaker 3: How does that fair with your novel? I don't want
- 17:38Speaker 3: you to tell the story, but how does that become tenfold?
- 17:43Speaker 1: Like?
- 17:44Speaker 3: Is it soft? Does it lead to something else? I
- 17:47Speaker 3: will tell you guys, this is a cliffhanger. This book
- 17:52Speaker 3: is a cliffhanger because I still want to know what
- 17:54Speaker 3: happened at the end one day, got a little almost caught.
- 17:58Speaker 3: But we ain't say nothing about that.
- 18:00Speaker 2: Huh, So.
- 18:03Speaker 3: Is that intention? Like, like, how are you going to
- 18:06Speaker 3: resolve the relationship that he did not have.
- 18:11Speaker 4: Well coming up in the street.
- 18:14Speaker 2: You know I'm saying, he don't start saying like like
- 18:16Speaker 2: he was young when he went in, when he.
- 18:18Speaker 4: Came out, he was still young.
- 18:19Speaker 2: So like I say, this book, uh, like I say,
- 18:22Speaker 2: was my first one, so I kept it in that
- 18:24Speaker 2: in that range. I think he came out here when
- 18:27Speaker 2: I first wrote it, So I have a more to
- 18:31Speaker 2: come with it for us at three parts.
- 18:33Speaker 4: So man, p train, you know, like I.
- 18:37Speaker 2: Ain't gonna say what's going on? But as he played,
- 18:39Speaker 2: it's gonna be I didn't. Right, they can take it
- 18:41Speaker 2: off solst he as he grow in this child if
- 18:44Speaker 2: girl wrote everybody involved or what the story don't get better?
- 18:48Speaker 2: You know what I'm saying as far as like how
- 18:50Speaker 2: he gets folved every thing he experience, you know what
- 18:52Speaker 2: I'm saying, And he don't see things that a father
- 18:55Speaker 2: wants to do, the thing that he missed out on.
- 18:57Speaker 2: You know, I'm trying to take that for sometimes trying
- 19:05Speaker 2: to get.
- 19:05Speaker 4: Away with them.
- 19:11Speaker 3: So what advice would you have for those who are
- 19:15Speaker 3: trying to leave the streets but seems like they still
- 19:19Speaker 3: keep pulling back. Now, the reason why accident, I know
- 19:24Speaker 3: you guys are wondering if you don't mind, mister nor
- 19:27Speaker 3: then we can tell him a little bit back about
- 19:30Speaker 3: your background situation.
- 19:31Speaker 4: Is that?
- 19:31Speaker 3: Okay?
- 19:34Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, okay.
- 19:38Speaker 3: The reason why because I know you guys are wondering, like,
- 19:40Speaker 3: why do we not see him? Okay, he is currently
- 19:43Speaker 3: incarcerated in Texas and that's why you don't see him
- 19:50Speaker 3: on the string. But guess what, that incorporation ain't stopping this, gentlemen.
- 19:54Speaker 3: And I'm gonna tell y'all, I am afraid when he
- 19:56Speaker 3: touched down, Okay, And it's not afraid like, oh my god,
- 20:01Speaker 3: what he's going to do. It's oh my god, what
- 20:03Speaker 3: he is not going to do, because I can tell
- 20:07Speaker 3: by the determination in him through the process of getting
- 20:11Speaker 3: this book published when you are incarcerated. But first of all,
- 20:16Speaker 3: I'm proud of you. I know the process was hard.
- 20:20Speaker 3: I know when we have spoken before, there were people
- 20:23Speaker 3: that take advantage of you, but you kept going and
- 20:26Speaker 3: I know that there were times you felt like this
- 20:29Speaker 3: is getting on my last nerve, but you saw it through.
- 20:34Speaker 3: What advice would you give to those who feel that
- 20:37Speaker 3: the street is trying to pull them back.
- 20:39Speaker 2: In my safe and now you're saying it want to
- 20:49Speaker 2: go up through the situation that gave me a life,
- 20:54Speaker 2: you know I'm saying really like saying that. But I
- 20:59Speaker 2: tell you now, I had to go off the delisting
- 21:02Speaker 2: through so Uh, I had had to go through a
- 21:05Speaker 2: husband and stage in my life, I'm saying, and going
- 21:08Speaker 2: through the different spirits and seeing what happened the streets. Uh,
- 21:11Speaker 2: listen to my father's you know the thing she she's
- 21:14Speaker 2: just late night, you know what I'm saying, worry and pray.
- 21:16Speaker 4: By me or something.
- 21:17Speaker 2: You know what I'm saying. Now that I see it
- 21:19Speaker 2: back and I see out, you know, it's it's a
- 21:21Speaker 2: whole different, you know.
- 21:23Speaker 4: What I'm saying.
- 21:23Speaker 2: Like, so now that I see things and I have
- 21:27Speaker 2: to decide it and not that that sail, you know,
- 21:30Speaker 2: just letting up there in the chain. A couple lot
- 21:32Speaker 2: of time me comes to prison, that's when the fire
- 21:34Speaker 2: academics can't find who they are, you know what I'm saying.
- 21:37Speaker 2: So it's kind of like a say It's like say
- 21:40Speaker 2: so I just tell the brothers out there then you know, uh,
- 21:44Speaker 2: say yourself now, for I have to save yourself later.
