- 4:27Speaker 8: Hi, I'm no more tears. I wanted to talk about
- 4:30Speaker 8: my book today. My book is about rape and mealization
- 4:35Speaker 8: and how I overcame it. Yes, I had to go
- 4:38Speaker 8: through therapy. Yes, I had to go through prayer. Yes
- 4:41Speaker 8: I had to set myself apart. Yes I had to
- 4:44Speaker 8: get counseling. Yes I had to cry. Yes I had
- 4:49Speaker 8: to go through oppression and depression behind it. But today
- 4:54Speaker 8: I can say I'm here from all of it. I
- 4:57Speaker 8: had to forgive others. I had to forgive myself from
- 5:00Speaker 8: the pain, from the hurt or whatever I went through.
- 5:04Speaker 8: My book was my release. My book was my healing.
- 5:09Speaker 8: But through my healing, I had resources. I had medication,
- 5:12Speaker 8: I had psychiatrists, I had trauma therapy. I had most
- 5:15Speaker 8: of everything that I need. But the most of all,
- 5:17Speaker 8: I had to spend time on myself to find myself,
- 5:21Speaker 8: to get back to myself because I had lost myself.
- 5:24Speaker 4: So order my book today, Happening.

- 6:27Speaker 4: The Well Welcome, Welcome, Welcome. I want to thank you
- 6:43Speaker 4: guys for joining in on tonight. We're in for another episode.
- 6:50Speaker 4: I tell you, I get excited every chance I get
- 6:53Speaker 4: to come on. I am willing to be filling the
- 6:56Speaker 4: in tonight for Prophetess samon Williams Young. I'm not sure
- 7:04Speaker 4: if you guys know what she is currently going through,
- 7:08Speaker 4: but she was diagnosed with a brain tumor. She had
- 7:14Speaker 4: brain surgery and over the holidays she suffered a couple
- 7:20Speaker 4: of seizures. So she's been dealing with a lot, but yet,
- 7:23Speaker 4: but God, y'all, if you see this young lady is
- 7:27Speaker 4: yet pressed and she's yet standing, She's yet still being
- 7:33Speaker 4: a miracle, walking living testimony of the power of God.
- 7:39Speaker 4: So I definitely am standing in for her tonight, letting
- 7:43Speaker 4: her know that here on the Crew podcast that we
- 7:47Speaker 4: always have your back. Y'all know, she is a prophet
- 7:53Speaker 4: and she's a woman a guy, so I'm definitely going
- 7:56Speaker 4: to share something that has has to do with the Word.
- 8:01Speaker 4: Of course, y'all know, I am a a woman of
- 8:04Speaker 4: God too. I don't have an office, an official office
- 8:07Speaker 4: or walking official office, but I am a true woman
- 8:11Speaker 4: of God. I believe in the Word and I try
- 8:14Speaker 4: to apply to everything that I do.
- 8:18Speaker 7: Y'all.
- 8:18Speaker 4: I'm excited because not only tonight, I actually have a
- 8:22Speaker 4: special guest on with me. Of course, I y'all know,
- 8:25Speaker 4: I have Chanette's co hosts with me tonight. He had
- 8:31Speaker 4: called earlier and I said, you know what, call back
- 8:35Speaker 4: and I'm gonna do a show and you can come on.
- 8:39Speaker 4: Got a lot to talk about tonight. I'm actually going
- 8:42Speaker 4: to be live on the w b n N. So
- 8:44Speaker 4: I want to encourage you guys to come on over
- 8:47Speaker 4: there tonight, tune in press that start to join the conversation.
- 8:53Speaker 4: We're gonna have one of our very own, Doctor Chinchira
- 8:57Speaker 4: is gonna be over there on the w b n
- 9:01Speaker 4: N with me. Y'all gonna get an opportunity to get
- 9:03Speaker 4: up close to personal with her, get to know a
- 9:05Speaker 4: little bit about her. So I encourage you guys to
- 9:09Speaker 4: come on over to the w BNN and join us. Y'all,
- 9:11Speaker 4: we're gonna be sharing some poetry because of course she's
- 9:14Speaker 4: a poet. My second guest up too, he is a
- 9:19Speaker 4: poet as well, Doctor Carry Bracket. He's gonna be in
- 9:25Speaker 4: the building. He is actually one of the twenty twenty
- 9:28Speaker 4: five Poets of the Year nominees. He's gonna be in
- 9:34Speaker 4: the building tonight. So I want to encourage you guys
- 9:37Speaker 4: to come on over and we're gonna be talking about
- 9:41Speaker 4: the poetry book Footprints in the Sands of Time. Y'all,
- 9:44Speaker 4: we're gonna have an opportunity to share I got me
- 9:48Speaker 4: some today. I may even give away a copy. I
- 9:51Speaker 4: may even give away a copy, So you have to
- 9:54Speaker 4: be live on air with us tonight to get a
- 9:57Speaker 4: free copy, y'all. This is a nice book, y'all. Normally
- 10:01Speaker 4: I don't critique my books and go through them like that.
- 10:05Speaker 4: Cornell is actually in this book. He is in this book.
- 10:09Speaker 4: Give him an opportunity to share. But y'all, before I
- 10:12Speaker 4: jump on in, I'm gonna say a prayer and then
- 10:15Speaker 4: I am going to bring my guests on in, and
- 10:20Speaker 4: then we're gonna jump in the conversation. Wherever it leads us,
- 10:22Speaker 4: it leads us, because y'all, I don't have an outline
- 10:24Speaker 4: for the program. I just said that I would cover
- 10:27Speaker 4: her shows for her in her absence, just to let
- 10:30Speaker 4: her know that, you know, we support her, that we
- 10:32Speaker 4: love her, and we're there for her, and we're yet
- 10:35Speaker 4: praying for her. I call a name out every morning
- 10:37Speaker 4: over there on the prayer list. So I'm trusting and
- 10:39Speaker 4: believing God that's gonna move and do exactly what he
- 10:42Speaker 4: said he would do for us. So with that being said,
- 10:44Speaker 4: I'm gonna lead us in prayer, and then the next
- 10:47Speaker 4: onch you here will be that mister Cornell. He's gonna
- 10:49Speaker 4: introduce itself and say hello to y'all, and then we're
- 10:52Speaker 4: gonna get started in the conversation. Okay, Father God, in
- 10:55Speaker 4: the name of Jesus what I thank you for yet
- 10:56Speaker 4: another day, Lord God, I thank you for this day
- 10:59Speaker 4: that was not promise. This, Lord God, a day that
- 11:01Speaker 4: we get an opportunity to impact lives, to do something
- 11:06Speaker 4: that we didn't do on yesterday. Lord, because you extended
- 11:09Speaker 4: your grace and your mercy, because somebody didn't get this chance.
- 11:12Speaker 4: Somebody died with dreams, somebody died with hope, somebody died
- 11:16Speaker 4: with aspirations within them. Lord God, they didn't get to
- 11:18Speaker 4: do the things that you had called and purposed them
- 11:20Speaker 4: to do. But Lord, you gave us this opportunity to
- 11:23Speaker 4: do that. You gave us this opportunity to be here.
- 11:26Speaker 4: You gave us this opportunity to do just what we're doing.
- 11:30Speaker 4: And I thank you. I thank you for just being
- 11:33Speaker 4: who you are in our lives. So, Father, I asked
- 11:37Speaker 4: that you will have your way on tonight, Lord God,
- 11:39Speaker 4: move me out of the way, Lord God, and allow
- 11:41Speaker 4: your spirit man to rise up, not on just on
- 11:44Speaker 4: this show, but on the show that I'm going to
- 11:46Speaker 4: do tonight at nine thirty over on the wbn N. Lord,
- 11:50Speaker 4: just use me for your glory. Lord God Father, I
- 11:53Speaker 4: thank you and your son Jesus name hallelujah, hallelujah, hallelujah.
- 11:57Speaker 4: I don't know what happened, but it looked like during
- 12:00Speaker 4: the prayer Cornell got disconnected. So hopefully he will call
- 12:05Speaker 4: back in. But nevertheless, y'all, I'm grateful because a lot
- 12:12Speaker 4: of us don't get an opportunity to do some of
- 12:17Speaker 4: the things that we want to do in this life.
- 12:20Speaker 4: For God has given me an opportunity to do a
- 12:24Speaker 4: lot of things. I've had an opportunity to work with
- 12:27Speaker 4: people incarcerated, I've had an opportunity to publish books, an
- 12:32Speaker 4: opportunity to give other people, y'all, thirty people in this
- 12:36Speaker 4: book see thirty people inside of this book give other
- 12:41Speaker 4: people an opportunity to share their thoughts, their perspective, a
- 12:46Speaker 4: little bit about themselves in the way that they want
- 12:50Speaker 4: to do it. So I'm just glad to be a vessel.
- 12:54Speaker 4: I thank God. I thank him for thinking enough of me,
- 12:57Speaker 4: because let me tell you, I ain't always been on
- 13:00Speaker 4: the straighten now and even now, you know, I'm not perfect.
- 13:05Speaker 4: I have my faults, I have my errors. I can
- 13:09Speaker 4: be a little bossy, I can be a little demanded
- 13:11Speaker 4: because guess what, God has given me a spirit to
- 13:17Speaker 4: see stuff and to see people, and to see gifts
- 13:21Speaker 4: in people. And when I see a gift in you,
- 13:23Speaker 4: I'm gonna pull it out. And I may be pushing
- 13:26Speaker 4: you to do stuff that you normally may not do,
- 13:29Speaker 4: that you normally may not do, and it may be
- 13:31Speaker 4: outside of your box. But trust me, I don't mean
- 13:36Speaker 4: no harm and I just want the best for everyone.
- 13:41Speaker 4: I feel like if you come in my miss that
- 13:44Speaker 4: there's a reason why God placed us together, because I
- 13:46Speaker 4: don't believe that He make mistakes. I believe that there's
- 13:50Speaker 4: a reason why He brings you in my circle, in
- 13:55Speaker 4: my network.
- 13:56Speaker 2: You know.
- 13:56Speaker 4: I don't believe that He would just bring you there
- 14:01Speaker 4: for us to, you know, not be productive for the kingdom.
- 14:04Speaker 4: I believe that it's something for the kingdom. But welcome back, Cornell.
- 14:07Speaker 4: I don't know what happened, but yeah, got disconnected doing
- 14:12Speaker 4: the prayer. But welcome back, welcome back, welcome back. I
- 14:17Speaker 4: was just sharing with those just a little bit, just
- 14:21Speaker 4: just dropping a little nuggets. Channette said that she missed
- 14:25Speaker 4: your call earlier. She said to call her whenever you could,
- 14:32Speaker 4: so just want to let you know that. But I
- 14:36Speaker 4: was sharing just a little bit about I don't know
- 14:39Speaker 4: just me about being a voice, being an outlet, allowing
- 14:44Speaker 4: your voice to speak. I for the first time, I
- 14:47Speaker 4: am like at our and just happy at something that
- 14:53Speaker 4: I've done. Like I'm looking at this book and I
- 14:54Speaker 4: see my books all the time, and I don't think
- 14:56Speaker 4: about it, you know, I'm just like just I just
- 14:59Speaker 4: want to be as so to be used and seeing
- 15:01Speaker 4: this makes me want to be a vessel to be
- 15:04Speaker 4: used even more, because when you can see your work
- 15:08Speaker 4: in your hand and you can see the I mean,
- 15:12Speaker 4: you think somebody else did this, like you see him like,
- 15:16Speaker 4: but you did that, And I'm just like, Okay, I'm
- 15:19Speaker 4: in and I'm grateful for everyone that I thought it
- 15:23Speaker 4: not Robert to be a part of these projects. Tonight,
- 15:27Speaker 4: We're actually gonna be sharing some of the poetry Cornell
- 15:31Speaker 4: on my other show on the WBNNN tonight, I have
- 15:36Speaker 4: doctor Chen who is a host here Our Speaks. She's
- 15:40Speaker 4: on first and third Thursday, So y'all got to check
- 15:43Speaker 4: her out. Y'all come check her out tonight, and then
- 15:45Speaker 4: y'all come back and check y'all have not been checking
- 15:47Speaker 4: her out. Y'all got to come back and check her
- 15:49Speaker 4: out right here on the wbn N on first and
- 15:53Speaker 4: third Thursdays. She'd be bringing some people on here, y'all.
- 15:58Speaker 4: She's over in the Virgin Islands. She lived in Virgin Islands.
- 16:02Speaker 4: She's a professor. She teaches at the University of the
- 16:05Speaker 4: Virgin Islands. She is a historian. I mean when she
- 16:09Speaker 4: loves history. She loves to inform people about, you know,
- 16:14Speaker 4: things that happened before our time. You know, she's very informative.
- 16:19Speaker 4: She is a very enlightened person. And I tell you,
- 16:23Speaker 4: I love watching her shows. I love catching her lives.
- 16:27Speaker 4: I just love being in her miss So y'all check
- 16:30Speaker 4: her out again. I'm just shotting everybody out, just getting
- 16:33Speaker 4: the chance to just be who I am. But anyway, y'all,
- 16:35Speaker 4: we got Cornell here, and y'all that have been following
- 16:40Speaker 4: and support Shannette and have followed me for a while,
- 16:43Speaker 4: know that Cornell is one of the individuals that we
- 16:46Speaker 4: work with inside of TDCJ the State of Texas. He's
- 16:52Speaker 4: been very instrumental and a lot of the things that
- 16:57Speaker 4: Shannett has done, I have done like he is. Like
- 17:01Speaker 4: everything that I've done inside of TDCJ would not have
- 17:04Speaker 4: been possible without him. So I'm grateful. When I tell y'all,
- 17:09Speaker 4: y'all don't believe I prayed for Shannette. She don't believe
- 17:12Speaker 4: she believed that she prayed for me, and that I
- 17:15Speaker 4: was a We was a help make to each other
- 17:18Speaker 4: because I needed her, because I needed a voice for
- 17:23Speaker 4: those that were incarcerated, not just in Texas but all
- 17:27Speaker 4: over and I knew that I could not do it
- 17:30Speaker 4: with all that I had going on. So I'm grateful
- 17:33Speaker 4: for her. And when I tell you she's been doing
- 17:35Speaker 4: an amazing job, she has been doing an amazing job,
- 17:39Speaker 4: and I am so so proud of her. Again, Cornell,
- 17:44Speaker 4: thank you for letting me rather on eighteen minutes of raveling.
- 17:49Speaker 4: Thank you for being here tonight and sharing so what
- 17:55Speaker 4: we are going to talk about tonight, I'm just I'm
- 18:00Speaker 4: just really grateful, and I just want to really pass
- 18:03Speaker 4: on that spirit of gratitude you have had the opportunity
- 18:08Speaker 4: we were talking about poetry. We lost an amazing poet,
- 18:14Speaker 4: doctor Nikki gi Giovanni, and we're actually gonna be honoring
- 18:18Speaker 4: her tonight on the w B n N. I am
- 18:22Speaker 4: going to be honoring her over on Walking and Purpose
- 18:24Speaker 4: with Angela. I have two guests tonight.
- 18:27Speaker 1: But what have.
- 18:31Speaker 4: How have you utilized writing and books and different things
- 18:38Speaker 4: into your life and into your rehabilitation, and how can
- 18:43Speaker 4: you share with someone else because we keep having to
- 18:48Speaker 4: tell the people, and I want you to before we
- 18:50Speaker 4: jump in briefly. You ain't got to give them the
- 18:54Speaker 4: whole spill, because they should know who you are by now.
- 18:58Speaker 4: Just briefly tell them who you are, and then make
- 19:02Speaker 4: sure you include your current situation.
- 19:07Speaker 1: Okay, my name is Connel and Drummers come to Texas
- 19:11Speaker 1: to an animator thirty four years and you know, for
- 19:14Speaker 1: a murder case in a drug case that was run back,
- 19:16Speaker 1: and I'm serving the sense of one hundred thirty four years. Okay,
- 19:20Speaker 1: I've been in Coortort, like I said, for thirty four
- 19:22Speaker 1: years and since my confinement. Matter of fact, since growing
- 19:27Speaker 1: up in life, I never realized how important education were.
- 19:31Speaker 1: But growing up, our family used to always teach us
- 19:34Speaker 1: about go to school, tell us to go to school,
- 19:36Speaker 1: get your education, get your education, and many is a
- 19:40Speaker 1: prova the poor environment of the neighborhood, of coming up
- 19:44Speaker 1: in the real developing homes and stuff like that. I
- 19:47Speaker 1: was around nothing, the drugs and negativity. Woman, and you
- 19:51Speaker 1: know the negative thoughts of life. So with that being said,
- 19:55Speaker 1: I can practically indicated I became a part of my
- 20:00Speaker 1: Bob and as I got appin, I started, you know,
- 20:03Speaker 1: to commit clients. And when I started to commit clients
- 20:07Speaker 1: and stuff, that started to have an impact on my
- 20:09Speaker 1: life and took me down in the negative role t
- 20:12Speaker 1: Well coming into the president system, and you know, I
- 20:15Speaker 1: never realize that, you know, I would have to you know,
- 20:18Speaker 1: find myself because if not, I would find myself at
- 20:21Speaker 1: the bottom all the time. And I utilize and the
- 20:24Speaker 1: skills and ability that I had in life. So with
- 20:27Speaker 1: this being said, you know, coming in and out of prison,
- 20:30Speaker 1: I learned a lot. When I was talking to myself.
- 20:32Speaker 1: I had to teach myself how to read, I had
- 20:34Speaker 1: to teach myself how to write, how to you know,
- 20:37Speaker 1: add Lord to find control. T Well. This time I
- 20:41Speaker 1: have one hundred and fifty four years. And God spoke
- 20:44Speaker 1: to me one time and he said, mister Drum, I'm
- 20:47Speaker 1: gonna do something for you. I'm going to get through something,
- 20:50Speaker 1: and I want you to do one thing for me.
- 20:52Speaker 1: I want you to blame everybody with you. And I
- 20:54Speaker 1: didn't understand what that means, but what he was telling me,
- 20:58Speaker 1: is that he's going to give me a boy to
- 21:00Speaker 1: be a voice for somebody, to be able to help
- 21:03Speaker 1: people come up out of a root. Well, with that
- 21:06Speaker 1: being said, he gave me the kill that I need
- 21:09Speaker 1: to learn the legal system. And when I learned the
- 21:11Speaker 1: legal system, I thought, you know, realizing what he meant,
- 21:15Speaker 1: but I think in me that I would be a boy. Well,
- 21:19Speaker 1: I've never realized how important that was, you know, to
- 21:23Speaker 1: a lot of people. But I kept doing enough, kept
- 21:24Speaker 1: doing it, and then I ended up meetings uh missus Thomas.
- 21:30Speaker 1: And she's a poet, she's a book writer. And with
- 21:34Speaker 1: that being said, I never real how important a poem
- 21:37Speaker 1: could be to a lot of people, how pot could
- 21:41Speaker 1: change the life of a lot of people. But with
- 21:44Speaker 1: that being said, I started to remembering that a poem,
- 21:47Speaker 1: a book, a letter, a short story could change the
- 21:51Speaker 1: lives of a lot of people. The meanings him And
- 21:56Speaker 1: when she did, I got more and more interested in it.
- 21:59Speaker 1: So I want to becoming a partner with her, and
- 22:03Speaker 1: I started taking her books and getting her her magazines,
- 22:06Speaker 1: and I started looking at them and they were so
- 22:08Speaker 1: important and so powerful. I started taking a liking to them.
- 22:11Speaker 1: So I started showing them to everybody in the prison system.
- 22:14Speaker 1: And people were self made by the fact that these
- 22:17Speaker 1: poems in these books and these magazines and were so
- 22:21Speaker 1: powerful that they wanted to be a part of this
- 22:24Speaker 1: operation through podcasts. So with did that, dam Say, I
- 22:27Speaker 1: connected with him with Lichtus Thomlins and she started registering
- 22:31Speaker 1: and cooking initatives up and started sharing her stuff with them.
- 22:34Speaker 1: And like I said, a plum is a very important
- 22:36Speaker 1: factor in a lot of people's lives. It's like a
- 22:39Speaker 1: book deal. And now with that, they said, I've learned
- 22:42Speaker 1: a lot. And I became a part of her program,
- 22:46Speaker 1: the same that was with miss Senate as the senet job.
- 22:49Speaker 1: She's the same powerful individual and I inspired her and
- 22:53Speaker 1: she inspired me to be a voice for those who
- 22:55Speaker 1: are in the lead of a voice. So that's why
- 22:58Speaker 1: I can say to me that you want to be
- 23:00Speaker 1: a part of this program, let's talk about it and
- 23:04Speaker 1: make human will be doing stands for justice because if
- 23:08Speaker 1: you can't stand together or something, we're standing together long.
- 23:11Speaker 1: But that's what I will be here.
- 23:14Speaker 3: Wow, And.
- 23:17Speaker 4: I'm just sometimes I find myself wondering how and where
- 23:25Speaker 4: do you find the strength because it's not like you
- 23:30Speaker 4: actually did a crime, you were wrongfully incarcerated, and yet
- 23:36Speaker 4: you have found a way to press past that, You
- 23:41Speaker 4: found a way to get over it. Yet we have
- 23:43Speaker 4: people on the outside that will get mad at you
- 23:47Speaker 4: for just asking them you to communicate, or just asking
- 23:52Speaker 4: for something, or simply stepping on the shoe, or just
- 23:55Speaker 4: the simple things, the things that we take for granted.
- 23:59Speaker 4: I have really realize that a lot of those that
- 24:02Speaker 4: have been wrongfully incarcerated have embraced and they've utilized. It's
- 24:08Speaker 4: like we read the word, but we don't apply it
- 24:12Speaker 4: to our lives. But it's like when you're put in
- 24:14Speaker 4: a place, in a position where you have to take
- 24:18Speaker 4: that word and apply it to your life, and then
- 24:21Speaker 4: it becomes life and you begin to see it work.
- 24:24Speaker 4: Like I want you to share with that person that
- 24:29Speaker 4: may be tuned in live or may hear this as
- 24:32Speaker 4: a replay, how have you turned those lemons into lemonade?
- 24:41Speaker 4: And not that sour puss lemonade, but some sweet, savoring lemonade.
- 24:46Speaker 4: That is that is that that is mouth watering to
- 24:50Speaker 4: your thirst.
- 25:00Speaker 1: You have strength of standing on my own two feet
- 25:02Speaker 1: to find my way. And after I started trying to
- 25:05Speaker 1: find my way down, I started you know, running cope
- 25:08Speaker 1: law to get the individual hands to my sister. I
- 25:12Speaker 1: started getting up, I started going to church. I started
- 25:15Speaker 1: even becoming doing one on one and started learning more
- 25:18Speaker 1: about God. Because without God in my life, I do
- 25:21Speaker 1: one thing, I could not do it. So I had
- 25:24Speaker 1: to find the word of God and put God on
- 25:26Speaker 1: everything that I did it because through that I got
- 25:29Speaker 1: the strength, I got the wisdom, I got the knowledge,
- 25:32Speaker 1: and I got the because the ability keyes to do
- 25:35Speaker 1: what I do today. And no matter if don't nobody
- 25:38Speaker 1: else want to do it, if don't nobody just want
- 25:41Speaker 1: to get involved. God told me one thing, continue to
- 25:45Speaker 1: do what you do and one day you will see
- 25:49Speaker 1: that I'm showing favor on you. Succeed in everything that
- 25:52Speaker 1: I have commandity for you to do. And that's what
- 25:55Speaker 1: I do. Every day. I waked up trying to find
- 25:58Speaker 1: a way to be a boy, try find a way
- 26:00Speaker 1: to connect the dock, trying to find a way to
- 26:03Speaker 1: reform criminal justice system. It's not even it's a little
- 26:08Speaker 1: to side now because they can't take it any more.
- 26:11Speaker 1: So I always look up every day trying to find
- 26:14Speaker 1: a way to be that voice, to give that home
- 26:17Speaker 1: and let these people know one day's gonna be all white.
- 26:19Speaker 1: One day the door is gonna open. So if I
- 26:22Speaker 1: can get the other side down religion, I'm gonna stand
- 26:26Speaker 1: up and I'm gonna be that boys and that for
- 26:29Speaker 1: criminal justice, reform, mental health, because but everything that I
- 26:34Speaker 1: canna be a voice from, that's what I'm gonna do.
- 26:37Speaker 4: Now, Wow, I mean that's that's amazing. I mean it
- 26:42Speaker 4: truly is. I listened to Jerry Show last night on
- 26:46Speaker 4: the w BN. Then, of course she is the host
- 26:51Speaker 4: over on the network that I'm on, and she was
- 26:54Speaker 4: sharing a guy on there last night. I think he's
- 26:58Speaker 4: someone that Dot their Chinchilla has been working with. Of course,
- 27:03Speaker 4: everybody that knows Chinchilla knows that she works with social
- 27:08Speaker 4: injustice wrongfully overly incarcerated individuals, and this is a guy
- 27:13Speaker 4: that's been incarcerated. I think he's been incarcerated since he
- 27:15Speaker 4: was a teenager. I don't know where he is. They
- 27:19Speaker 4: didn't disclose that on last night, but he's now forty
- 27:22Speaker 4: four years old. He's now a a licensed minister. He's
- 27:27Speaker 4: gotten so many degrees they are now given individuals. I
- 27:33Speaker 4: don't know if all of the facilities are doing it,
- 27:35Speaker 4: but I've seen a couple of facilities within the prison system.
- 27:38Speaker 4: They are allowing these individuals that are excelling in school
- 27:42Speaker 4: and doing these different things that have shown that they
- 27:46Speaker 4: are rehabilitated. They are given them opportunity to speak before
- 27:49Speaker 4: classes and stuff, and they're able to use that when
- 27:54Speaker 4: they go up for parole. So now, before I share
- 27:58Speaker 4: a piece of poetry that you wrote in this book,
- 28:02Speaker 4: I want you to share because in sharing that, I
- 28:06Speaker 4: brought up a subject that I know is near and
- 28:10Speaker 4: near to your heart, and that is your current status.
- 28:14Speaker 4: For those that follow know that Cornell was paroled in August.
- 28:20Speaker 4: He was granted parole, but yet he still sits behind
- 28:23Speaker 4: prison walk. He was granted a fi was it the
- 28:28Speaker 4: f I six, So he was granted the f I six.
- 28:34Speaker 4: So with that f I six, he was required to
- 28:38Speaker 4: attend a program. It is now December. He was supposed
- 28:43Speaker 4: to be at his program, started his program, and now
- 28:47Speaker 4: should be two months into his program, and yet he's
- 28:51Speaker 4: yet to leave the facility. With that f I six,
- 28:54Speaker 4: that meant that he's supposed to do a six month
- 28:57Speaker 4: program and then he was supposed to be released. We're
- 29:03Speaker 4: now two months over his time that he's supposed to
- 29:10Speaker 4: be doing the program. And this is what we're finding
- 29:16Speaker 4: in a lot of the Texas facilities, not just Texas,
- 29:20Speaker 4: but we're finding it in a lot of facilities. But
- 29:23Speaker 4: it is really bad in Texas. And those commissioners have
- 29:28Speaker 4: taken a personal vendetta against some of these inmates and
- 29:33Speaker 4: really made it personal. I mean they really made it
- 29:37Speaker 4: personal to where they are holding their records and then
- 29:41Speaker 4: they are holding their verdicts and stuff until the last day,
- 29:48Speaker 4: and then they're pushing them and holding them on when
- 29:52Speaker 4: they get to these programs. Because remind you, now, the
- 29:56Speaker 4: program time does not start until you get to the
- 29:59Speaker 4: pro So you got to get to the program first.
- 30:02Speaker 4: So if they hold you six months before they get
- 30:05Speaker 4: you to the program, and then you go over to
- 30:08Speaker 4: the program, you got to do another six months, that's
- 30:10Speaker 4: already another year added on to your time. Well, some
- 30:14Speaker 4: of these people have already served over twenty years. Now,
- 30:19Speaker 4: where is the fairness of that? Now? We all know
- 30:22Speaker 4: back in the day a life sentence, when they used
- 30:25Speaker 4: to give out these life charges and these life sentences.
- 30:28Speaker 4: We know when they used to give out those, that
- 30:30Speaker 4: was like people did twenty five thirty years and they
- 30:32Speaker 4: was home. Now you doing forty fifty years before these
- 30:37Speaker 4: people even want to bring you up for a parole,
- 30:40Speaker 4: and then they want to play with you once they
- 30:42Speaker 4: bring you up for parole. Where is the fairness? Where
- 30:46Speaker 4: is the were trying to really get these people back
- 30:49Speaker 4: out into society and allow them to function. Where is that?
- 30:54Speaker 4: It is not there because it's all about the money.
- 30:58Speaker 4: And we got to move from that. We gotta understand
- 31:01Speaker 4: that we got to get back to values, and we
- 31:05Speaker 4: got to y'all. If you have family members that are incarcerated,
- 31:09Speaker 4: I don't care if they're your cousin, your brother, your nephew,
- 31:12Speaker 4: your fifth cousin, if they weigh down the line. If
- 31:15Speaker 4: you have family members that are in prison, you should
- 31:19Speaker 4: be writing people. You should be standing up for them.
- 31:21Speaker 4: When you see stuff going on that shouldn't be going on,
- 31:24Speaker 4: you should be saying something. Whether you reach out personally
- 31:29Speaker 4: or if you reach it out as an advocate, you
- 31:32Speaker 4: should be advocating about these things. See, I can't sit
- 31:38Speaker 4: down and be quiet because I have family members that's incarcerated.
- 31:43Speaker 4: I have a nephew that's incarcerated, So I can't sit
- 31:46Speaker 4: down and be quiet. I may not be directly affecting
- 31:51Speaker 4: his case. But I can't sit down and be quiet
- 31:54Speaker 4: when I know that he's part of what is going
- 31:58Speaker 4: on in America and then it needs to be addressed,
- 32:04Speaker 4: so I speak. I may not be all. I may
- 32:08Speaker 4: not be going to all that Shanett is doing because
- 32:12Speaker 4: I don't have the time for y'all. If I did,
- 32:15Speaker 4: I'm telling you I would. I try, but I just
- 32:18Speaker 4: I can't. And and I'm grateful for people like Shannette.
- 32:24Speaker 4: Even though I can't do what she's doing. I'm still
- 32:27Speaker 4: able to sit and brainstorm with her, and we're able
- 32:30Speaker 4: to toss things off of each other, and we're able
- 32:32Speaker 4: to talk about things, and we're able to share, and
- 32:35Speaker 4: we're able to you know, I can be in the
- 32:37Speaker 4: background and and help her with whatever it is is
- 32:40Speaker 4: needed to go for. You know that that's what collaboration
- 32:45Speaker 4: and coming together and working together is all about. Like
- 32:49Speaker 4: all eight of these hosts over here, no I got
- 32:51Speaker 4: they back, no matter what they need, I'm there. If
- 32:56Speaker 4: you need a guess, I'm there. If you need me
- 32:58Speaker 4: to help you with a guess, I can help you
- 33:00Speaker 4: get a guess. If you need whatever you need, I'm there.
- 33:03Speaker 4: And if I can't guarantee you I know somebody that can,
- 33:06Speaker 4: and I'm gonna hook you up with them. That's one
- 33:08Speaker 4: thing about me. I can't take none of this, no
- 33:10Speaker 4: where with me, So yes, what I want to leave
- 33:14Speaker 4: it so that other people can be able to carry on,
- 33:17Speaker 4: because guess what, life gonna go on without me? Life's
- 33:21Speaker 4: gonna go on without all of us. But we need
- 33:25Speaker 4: to make sure that the ones that are coming behind
- 33:27Speaker 4: us that they are equipped with the things that they need,
- 33:31Speaker 4: that they may go forth, and that they may be great,
- 33:35Speaker 4: because there may be some things that we may not
- 33:37Speaker 4: be able to tap into just yet, that we may
- 33:40Speaker 4: be setting the frequency and the flow for them to
- 33:45Speaker 4: walk into. But if we don't show up, guess what
- 33:49Speaker 4: we'll never know. So a lot of us we want
- 33:53Speaker 4: to make excuses, but like my big brother, Oh say,
- 33:59Speaker 4: there's no excuse. Excuse. Us are for the incompetent, and
- 34:03Speaker 4: I don't deal with in company people, so I know
- 34:07Speaker 4: that that's not us over here. We don't make excuses.
- 34:10Speaker 4: If we can't, we gonna tell you we can't. We're
- 34:13Speaker 4: not gonna try to do more than what we can,
- 34:17Speaker 4: but we always one thing we gonna do over here
- 34:20Speaker 4: is we gonna co communicate with you and we don't
- 34:23Speaker 4: do nothing else. That's one thing about me. I'm gonna
- 34:26Speaker 4: communicate with you. If I don't do nothing else, I
- 34:28Speaker 4: may not show up, but I'm gonna communicate, and you
- 34:32Speaker 4: gonna know why I ain't showing up. And I may
- 34:35Speaker 4: have somebody showing up for me or whatever the case
- 34:37Speaker 4: may be. But Cornell, I want to share with those
- 34:42Speaker 4: that are listening one of your pieces that you wrote
- 34:48Speaker 4: inside of Footprints in the Sands and Time. What what
- 34:56Speaker 4: is it like trying to create a legacy being in
- 35:03Speaker 4: the current situation that you're in. What does that look
- 35:07Speaker 4: like for you? And what would you say to someone
- 35:13Speaker 4: that may be in the same situation that you're in,
- 35:17Speaker 4: that may have given up.
- 35:21Speaker 1: Now that's a very good question. Now, okay, when you're
- 35:25Speaker 1: opening them eyes to see what the real problem Amlican
- 35:28Speaker 1: and the country. Now you will realize now that you know,
- 35:32Speaker 1: our countrys founded that slavery, you know, and because of that,
- 35:36Speaker 1: now our institutions the capital lot of slavery. So with
- 35:41Speaker 1: that being said, man, the truth is the truth. We
- 35:43Speaker 1: can't ask nothing to them, we can't take nothing away
- 35:45Speaker 1: from it. So with that being saved, now, but there
- 35:48Speaker 1: these institutions. Now, you know, it's hard trying to get
- 35:52Speaker 1: done for my como justice system. Why because of that
- 35:55Speaker 1: list right there that our countress founded on racism and
- 36:00Speaker 1: bee and have had topoism and this is a multi
- 36:04Speaker 1: tillion dollar enterprise right here. Incarceration. We have two point
- 36:08Speaker 1: two million people incarcerated in the United States. We have
- 36:12Speaker 1: seventy million people that's on parole probation are incarcerated. Now,
- 36:17Speaker 1: these are some very staggling numbers. So when they comes time,
- 36:20Speaker 1: man the challenge of criminal justice system that's broken them
- 36:23Speaker 1: like this without our state representatives, I take extendencies, and
- 36:26Speaker 1: our governments and our president for whoever is in office.
- 36:30Speaker 1: Trying to fix these products now is hard and people
- 36:33Speaker 1: are willing to you know, they fight, but it's hard.
- 36:36Speaker 1: So they be choosing to give up because you can't
- 36:39Speaker 1: win the criminal justice system right now, our parole bard
- 36:43Speaker 1: is found about the judicial practic which means that we
- 36:47Speaker 1: are now governed by an individual, not the system. My
- 36:52Speaker 1: commissioner right now has recommended and leans that possis our program.
- 36:58Speaker 1: And mind yourself this same indidical thing eighty five years ago,
- 37:03Speaker 1: after doing twenty eight years and since that time. Now
- 37:07Speaker 1: I haven't completed in every program within the system three times.
- 37:12Speaker 1: Because when he saw me this time, he said, in
- 37:13Speaker 1: the fail tell me why should that you go? I said, well,
- 37:17Speaker 1: my credential speaks for themselves. I've completed every program three times,
- 37:21Speaker 1: college courts and anything. He said, well, okay, at the
- 37:24Speaker 1: building I can agree with returning. So when I got
- 37:27Speaker 1: my answer, it's I all at six. So I'm like,
- 37:31Speaker 1: belait a minute. You can't get to the program and
- 37:34Speaker 1: complete the program until you get to the facility. But
- 37:37Speaker 1: you got thousands of endimates waiting to go to the facility.
- 37:41Speaker 1: And so what that man said, that is a complete
- 37:44Speaker 1: whole traveling of a set off. After he just gave
- 37:47Speaker 1: me five ideas, was the set off man? Because now
- 37:51Speaker 1: the problem is this our system has start working because
- 37:54Speaker 1: my legislators and I recognized it. He's followed within our
- 37:58Speaker 1: system using projects to be to not to release people
- 38:07Speaker 1: and the society people. If they released all of the
- 38:13Speaker 1: people already the.
- 38:16Speaker 4: System, well of course they're not gonna do that because
- 38:22Speaker 4: if they do, if you, like you say, if they
- 38:26Speaker 4: release all those people according then it will be empty.
- 38:30Speaker 4: And then if it's empty, then there's no more free
- 38:32Speaker 4: labor there. They're just they can't charge for the beds
- 38:36Speaker 4: being pulled, so they know what they're doing. They know
- 38:39Speaker 4: exactly what they're doing. We're just gonna continue to pray
- 38:45Speaker 4: it could get worse because we're talking about you. You're
- 38:49Speaker 4: talking about a president that's going to get in the
- 38:52Speaker 4: office and talking about deporting everybody. He even talking about
- 38:56Speaker 4: deporting US citizens and I'm talking about, how do you
- 38:58Speaker 4: talking about deporting US cities? I mean, the man really
- 39:01Speaker 4: already done lost his mind and he ain't even in office.
- 39:03Speaker 4: Hit But this is who we this, this is who
- 39:06Speaker 4: we voted for. And I'm gonna say we because we
- 39:08Speaker 4: are the people, and we got to stand together. So
- 39:11Speaker 4: we all one, We all one, regardless of how how
- 39:15Speaker 4: how we voted, we all one. So since this is
- 39:18Speaker 4: who we as a majority, say that we wanted in office,
- 39:22Speaker 4: this is who we got. So now this man talking
- 39:25Speaker 4: about deporting people that was not born here, So all
- 39:29Speaker 4: those different people that were born in different countries, even
- 39:33Speaker 4: though you've been here a long time and you may
- 39:35Speaker 4: have your citizenship, he's still talking about deporting you. But
- 39:38Speaker 4: this is the man that you want in office because
- 39:40Speaker 4: you say, oh, we we we struggle with education. We
- 39:43Speaker 4: struggled with this. I listened to a lot of these
- 39:46Speaker 4: people say a lot of the reason why they voted
- 39:49Speaker 4: for this man. But this is well, this is this,
- 39:52Speaker 4: this is what we want. It is crazy. But I
- 39:56Speaker 4: want to end on a note of share some poetry.
- 40:01Speaker 4: Since we are honoring the late doctor Nikki Giovanni. We
- 40:07Speaker 4: had a poetry book that Corneill took part in, How
- 40:12Speaker 4: Footprits in the Sands of Time. It is part of
- 40:15Speaker 4: the Legacy Chronicle, a journey through time and eternity. Inside
- 40:20Speaker 4: of this book, there was thirty individuals that share in
- 40:22Speaker 4: this book. If y'all have not checked this book out

- 40:45Speaker 4: this poem that Corneier wrote. It's called Echoes of the
- 40:49Speaker 4: Forgotten in the Sands of Time. Footprints tell a tale
- 40:54Speaker 4: other man Ron trapped in a thirty four year jail four,
- 41:02Speaker 4: finally set free, But the shadows of the past still
- 41:06Speaker 4: cling to thee memories of your youth, not distant and
- 41:10Speaker 4: far regrets, mistakes like a relentless scar nostalgically for days
- 41:17Speaker 4: gone by, lost and abyss, reflections on life, opportunities miss
- 41:24Speaker 4: time marches on relentness and cruel, leaving behind fragments of
- 41:30Speaker 4: a broken old fool. But in these shadows there lies
- 41:36Speaker 4: a glimmering of hope, a chance to reveal, to learn
- 41:41Speaker 4: how to cope through the darkness, a light start to shine,
- 41:47Speaker 4: a beacon of redemption, a chance to realign. Footprints in
- 41:53Speaker 4: the sands washed away by the sea, a symbol of
- 41:57Speaker 4: rebirth of a man now free. Though the past may
- 42:02Speaker 4: haunt and the memories may stem, there's a chance for
- 42:07Speaker 4: a new beginning, and the shadows of past a story's
- 42:12Speaker 4: untold of a man who rises strong and bold. And
- 42:19Speaker 4: that's that piece that was written by Cornell y'all is
- 42:23Speaker 4: calling the echoes of the forgotten Cornell Jackie Drummer. So
- 42:30Speaker 4: Cornell that piece when when? When when individuals asked you
- 42:37Speaker 4: to write? What was your thoughts when you were asked
- 42:40Speaker 4: to to share inside of this poetry book?

- 43:06Speaker 1: and I don't want to be a part of anything
- 43:08Speaker 1: that has to do with propitivity in this world now
- 43:11Speaker 1: because I do want to be the change that our
