- 0:00Speaker 1: This is Kiss Breakfast.
- 0:03Speaker 2: Ooh, Survivor, Australian Survivor Rivals is coming January 10, 2027.
- 0:10Speaker 2: David Janay is the host, and I believe he's joining
- 0:13Speaker 2: us now?
- 0:15Speaker 3: Now.
- 0:17Speaker 1: Oh, we just can't see you. Oh, he's there, but
- 0:19Speaker 1: he can't see you.
- 0:20Speaker 3: Why not? I have.
- 0:22Speaker 4: Because I was told it was just audio and I'm
- 0:24Speaker 4: laying in my bed.
- 0:25Speaker 1: Oh, how good.
- 0:27Speaker 2: I reckon you're a good looking man and people would
- 0:30Speaker 2: like to see it.
- 0:31Speaker 1: Just turn that camera on for a moment.
- 0:34Speaker 3: I should turn. The camera is on. I just don't
- 0:36Speaker 3: have a lot of light in this room. It's blackout.
- 0:38Speaker 1: Oh, it's a blackout. Oh, you're actually. I can't see
- 0:41Speaker 1: you at all.
- 0:42Speaker 4: You can't see my teeth. You can kind of see
- 0:45Speaker 4: my teeth.
- 0:45Speaker 1: No, we've just got a big black screen here. Where
- 0:48Speaker 1: are you? In a hotel?
- 0:49Speaker 5: He must be in a proper hotel with like really
- 0:52Speaker 5: dense blackout curtains.
- 0:53Speaker 3: I'm in a proper hotel.
- 0:55Speaker 1: That's the best kind.
- 0:57Speaker 3: Where? Where in the world?
- 0:58Speaker 1: How are you guys doing?
- 0:59Speaker 3: We're good. I'm in Melbourne.
- 1:00Speaker 1: You're in Melbourne.
- 1:01Speaker 2: I remember staying in the Hilton in Sydney once and
- 1:04Speaker 2: they had proper blackout.
- 1:05Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:06Speaker 2: And the girlfriend and I that I was with at
- 1:07Speaker 2: the time, we... put the blinds down, I woke up
- 1:10Speaker 2: at like 11.30.
- 1:11Speaker 1: Oh, what?
- 1:12Speaker 2: And felt like you feel awful because of the blackout.
- 1:16Speaker 2: It's a nice day here in Sydney, probably awful in Melbourne.
- 1:18Speaker 3: Oh, I love it.
- 1:19Speaker 1: I love it.
- 1:20Speaker 3: I love it. I think it's the best thing ever.
- 1:22Speaker 4: I just flew in from the States, so I'm trying
- 1:25Speaker 4: not to get– I'm only here for a couple of days,
- 1:27Speaker 4: so I'm trying not to get too off time zone.
- 1:29Speaker 1: Oh, so you're trying to stay on the LA time zone.
- 1:33Speaker 4: I am. I am.
- 1:34Speaker 1: So what time would it be in LA now? It
- 1:36Speaker 1: would be evening, wouldn't it?
- 1:38Speaker 3: Well, actually, it's almost time for night-night, I think. So
- 1:41Speaker 3: maybe I'll just have another nap after this.
- 1:43Speaker 1: Do you actually– here's the thing, right? You're in– where
- 1:46Speaker 1: are you from, man? Where did you grow up?
- 1:50Speaker 3: From Perth. I'm a Perth boy. Okay. Yeah, Perth boy.
- 1:53Speaker 2: But you're back in Australia and you're going to what?
- 1:56Speaker 2: Keep these blinds down and try and go to sleep
- 1:59Speaker 2: all day?
- 2:00Speaker 1: Why not?
- 2:00Speaker 3: Yeah, basically. Like vampire, vampire style. Okay. You know?
- 2:05Speaker 1: Keep yourself on the LA routine.
- 2:06Speaker 3: We just do the– Keep it on the LA routine.
- 2:09Speaker 1: You think it'll work?
- 2:11Speaker 2: Like now that you know everyone's outside playing, it's like
- 2:14Speaker 2: when mum used to put you to bed early and
- 2:16Speaker 2: it was daylight saving and the kids were still out
- 2:18Speaker 2: playing cricket in the street.
- 2:19Speaker 1: Do you think you'll be able to go to sleep?
- 2:22Speaker 3: No, definitely not.
- 2:23Speaker 1: It's going to have to double dump some value.
- 2:26Speaker 3: But I'm going to give it a red hot.
- 2:28Speaker 1: Good on you, man.
- 2:29Speaker 2: Hey, tell us about Australian Survivor Rivals. What is this
- 2:32Speaker 2: all about?
- 2:34Speaker 4: Oh, you guys, it's so good. We have two mirror tribes.
- 2:37Speaker 4: So each player comes in with a rival. So we've
- 2:40Speaker 4: got a couple of AFL boys, NRL versus Union.
- 2:43Speaker 3: Oh, yeah. We've got actors.
- 2:45Speaker 4: So they've all got kind of similar traits and they
- 2:48Speaker 4: become each other's rival this season. So the theme kind
- 2:52Speaker 4: of just really ramps up the drama and the competition
- 2:55Speaker 4: between them because now instead of just trying to win
- 2:58Speaker 4: the whole comp, which is hard enough as it is,
- 3:00Speaker 4: you've got someone, you know, that you'd don't want to
- 3:03Speaker 4: lose to the whole time. So it was a really
- 3:05Speaker 4: interesting concept just to see the way they moved and
- 3:07Speaker 4: the way they played.
- 3:08Speaker 3: And, yeah, it was amazing.
- 3:10Speaker 1: Well, we know all these people. Like, they're well-known.
- 3:12Speaker 5: Yeah, I was going to say, is it all well-known people?
- 3:14Speaker 3: Yeah. Not all. Not all.
- 3:16Speaker 4: We did about half everyday Aussies and then we did
- 3:19Speaker 4: about half– half.
- 3:22Speaker 3: Australian celebs and sports stars. Olympians, we've got Olympians.
- 3:25Speaker 1: Oh, my God. I always watch it.
- 3:27Speaker 5: I always watch it and I just think you'd have
- 3:30Speaker 5: to be so– you can't just be really fit. You've
- 3:32Speaker 5: got to be like street smart and brain smart because
- 3:34Speaker 5: it's all about the art of manipulation as well.
- 3:37Speaker 1: I wouldn't last a week in there. Mikey would last
- 3:40Speaker 1: even less time. 20 seconds.
- 3:42Speaker 4: Amy, I don't know, Amy. I've seen you manoeuvre through
- 3:45Speaker 4: social situations.
- 3:46Speaker 5: You're pretty clever. I can do the people manipulating. I
- 3:51Speaker 5: reckon I'd be– but the fitness is in the gutter
- 3:54Speaker 5: at the moment.
- 3:55Speaker 2: Well, you've done both, mate. Like you've hosted and you've
- 3:58Speaker 2: competed across multiple seasons.
- 4:00Speaker 1: What's easier?
- 4:01Speaker 4: Yeah. Oh, I mean, when you're a contestant, you don't
- 4:06Speaker 4: have to think about anything other than just the game.
- 4:09Speaker 4: But like when you're hosting, you have to think about
- 4:10Speaker 4: all these other things and all the workings.
- 4:14Speaker 3: Of the game. So, I mean, they're both hard.
- 4:16Speaker 4: I probably prefer being a host because I just love, love,
- 4:19Speaker 4: love the show. So getting to see all that stuff
- 4:21Speaker 4: that's happening behind the scenes and working with our crew,
- 4:23Speaker 4: I just love it.
- 4:26Speaker 3: But I don't know, being a contestant, man, it's tough.
- 4:28Speaker 3: It's pretty full on.
- 4:30Speaker 2: And are you agreeing with Amy it's not just fitness?
- 4:33Speaker 2: Like you've got to be pretty fit, right? But also
- 4:35Speaker 2: is it more the mental side?
- 4:36Speaker 3: No, it's not just fitness.
- 4:38Speaker 4: I mean, we've got some pretty elite level athletes that
- 4:40Speaker 4: come in and play and crumble from the psychological pressure.
- 4:43Speaker 4: There's all these elements to it. It's not just the
- 4:46Speaker 4: survival stuff, but it's like the social pressure. It's just
- 4:50Speaker 4: a pressure cooker. And that's why it makes such great TV.
- 4:52Speaker 4: And it's long, man. Like we go 45 days. The
- 4:55Speaker 4: guys are really working hard to earn that title and
- 4:59Speaker 4: the money that goes with it.
- 5:00Speaker 1: Would you ever go back on, David? Hell no. As
- 5:04Speaker 1: a participant? Hell no. How many times have you done
- 5:07Speaker 1: it yourself?
- 5:07Speaker 3: I stay in a resort now.
- 5:09Speaker 1: It's so much better. Where are you filming it? Where
- 5:11Speaker 1: do you do it?
- 5:13Speaker 4: We were in Malaysia this year, which was– Malaysia is beautiful.
- 5:17Speaker 4: We were on actual islands just north of Desiru. And
- 5:22Speaker 4: it was beautiful but brutal.
- 5:24Speaker 1: The humidity, right?
- 5:25Speaker 3: And they fully slum it.
- 5:27Speaker 1: Oh, the humidity.
- 5:28Speaker 5: They all get so shredded and they all come out
- 5:31Speaker 5: looking so gone because you don't get a lot of
- 5:33Speaker 5: food or.
- 5:34Speaker 1: Anything, do you?
- 5:36Speaker 3: And then they're battling with monkeys. So the monkeys were
- 5:38Speaker 3: coming in and stealing their food. They're coming out of
- 5:42Speaker 3: the jungle.
- 5:43Speaker 1: And what were you doing?
- 5:44Speaker 3: Stealing all their stuff.
- 5:45Speaker 2: So like it's on an island in Malaysia, but you're
- 5:47Speaker 2: in a resort and you just sort of come and go?
- 5:49Speaker 4: I'm on the mainland. So we were just basically being
- 5:52Speaker 4: transported for boats. We had a challenge island. We had
- 5:54Speaker 4: tribe islands. And so there was a lot of boat
- 5:58Speaker 4: travel this season, which was really, really fun because it
- 6:00Speaker 4: feels like you're just in it. They really are going
- 6:03Speaker 4: from island to island.
- 6:05Speaker 3: Yeah. And it feels, it's like real smart.
- 6:07Speaker 5: How good though, you now get the best of both worlds.
- 6:09Speaker 5: You still get to be part of the series. You're
- 6:12Speaker 5: across the game, but you get to go back to
- 6:14Speaker 5: a nice warm bed and a hot shower.
- 6:16Speaker 3: Oh, no, and a massage. You know, it's great.
- 6:19Speaker 1: And a massage, yeah.
- 6:20Speaker 3: It's so much better.
- 6:22Speaker 4: I feel so sorry for them sometimes, you know, because
- 6:24Speaker 4: they show up to challenges, they're so haggard.
- 6:26Speaker 3: I'm like, oh, I remember that. I remember those days.
- 6:28Speaker 1: Yeah, but also see you later.
- 6:31Speaker 2: Well, enjoy your blockout room there in a Melbourne hotel
- 6:34Speaker 2: where you're still seeing nothing.
- 6:36Speaker 1: You don't want to just give us a quick glimpse?
- 6:38Speaker 3: No. Can you not see anything? I'm trying to give
- 6:41Speaker 3: you some. I'm not even sure.
- 6:42Speaker 1: Can you say anything on your end, Chelsea, with Zoom there?
- 6:45Speaker 5: No, I can't, but I could see his teeth before.
- 6:48Speaker 3: Oh, could you? You can see my teeth. See how
- 6:50Speaker 3: white my teeth are? Oh, yeah, I can see something.
- 6:52Speaker 3: You know what?
- 6:53Speaker 1: We've got the reflection of the... You've got veneers, do you?
- 6:58Speaker 4: No, I just have incredibly white teeth in the dark room.
- 7:01Speaker 1: Oh, there we go. Oh, yeah, we see the teeth. David, Janae,
- 7:05Speaker 1: thank you, mate.
- 7:05Speaker 2: Australian Survivor Rivals coming to 10 in January. Good luck
- 7:10Speaker 2: with adjusting your sleep and staying on LA time.
- 7:13Speaker 1: It's a challenge, mate. Yeah, good night, we should be saying.
- 7:15Speaker 3: Thanks, you guys. Thanks, you guys. Night-night. Appreciate you. Later.
- 7:19Speaker 1: Sleep well.
