Transcript
- 0:01Speaker 1: Going in three, two. Bishop Walter Thomas, pastor of the
- 0:06Speaker 1: New Psalmist Baptist Church. Been pastoring here now 38 years.
- 0:21Speaker 1: But I hope and I'm praying to God that in
- 0:24Speaker 1: the presentation that I share, folk will have some aha moments.
- 0:28Speaker 1: That something will create an aha moment. where the lights
- 0:32Speaker 1: will come on. And whenever lights come on, you don't
- 0:35Speaker 1: get everything full on. Oh, now I understand and now
- 0:38Speaker 1: I can do it. But when the lights come on,
- 0:41Speaker 1: you begin to know where to search. You begin to
- 0:43Speaker 1: know you need to search. You begin to seek out.
- 0:47Speaker 1: And so if the lights come on, chances are I'm
- 0:49Speaker 1: going to get up and go to sessions tomorrow. If
- 0:52Speaker 1: the lights come on, I'm going to read books when
- 0:54Speaker 1: I get back home. If the lights come on, I'm
- 0:56Speaker 1: going to hold more conversations. If the lights come on,
- 0:59Speaker 1: I'm going to gather to myself more information that's going
- 1:03Speaker 1: to help me with what it was that came on
- 1:06Speaker 1: in my head. The lights coming on doesn't mean that
- 1:09Speaker 1: I now know totally what to do. It's now I
- 1:13Speaker 1: understand the urgency of what it is that must be done.
- 1:17Speaker 1: One of the things I think most of us who
- 1:20Speaker 1: lead staffs need to do is to ask ourselves the question,
- 1:25Speaker 1: what is the vision that I'm working on? And does
- 1:29Speaker 1: my staffing reflect my vision? Or is my staffing reflective
- 1:37Speaker 1: of another vision? A vision I may have had two
- 1:40Speaker 1: or three years ago. One of the questions I ask is,
- 1:45Speaker 1: how long ago or how many visions ago was the
- 1:49Speaker 1: structure you're using put in place? Because the structure is
- 1:54Speaker 1: always tied to the vision. And what a lot of
- 1:57Speaker 1: us don't realize is we put a structure in place
- 2:00Speaker 1: some time ago because we had a vision. And we've
- 2:03Speaker 1: been adjusting that structure, adding to it, almost like a
- 2:07Speaker 1: person who builds a house, then realizes they want another
- 2:10Speaker 1: room over here, so they go and put another addition on.
- 2:13Speaker 1: Then they want another bedroom, so they add that bedroom on,
- 2:17Speaker 1: but that new addition is there, so they've got to
- 2:19Speaker 1: put it in. Then they realize they like something else.
- 2:21Speaker 1: And before you know it, you look at this house,
- 2:24Speaker 1: And you say to yourself, it's a lot there, but
- 2:27Speaker 1: is it the most functional arrangement of what you desired?
- 2:30Speaker 1: And I think a lot of pastors don't realize that
- 2:34Speaker 1: the arrangements they have, the structures they have put in
- 2:38Speaker 1: place are provisions they've moved beyond. If this structure was
- 2:44Speaker 1: put in place in 1983, how functional is it 30
- 2:46Speaker 1: years later in 2013? And as long as the structure
- 2:54Speaker 1: has places still to fill, it means the vision is finished.
- 3:00Speaker 1: That's excellent.
