- 0:22Speaker 1: All right, you're listening Eagles postgame analysis here at the
- 0:24Speaker 1: Philadelphia Sports Table podcast show, the longest running weekly Philly
- 0:27Speaker 1: sports podcast show in the world, over twelve and a
- 0:30Speaker 1: half years strong. The Philadelphia Eagles here in week fifteen,
- 0:33Speaker 1: destroyed the Las Vegas Raiders. I can't believe I used
- 0:38Speaker 1: that sentence rate there, given this Eagles offense. Oh, I
- 0:41Speaker 1: love it. They destroyed them by a score of thirty
- 0:44Speaker 1: one to nothing. I'm Jeff Warren and joining us this
- 0:48Speaker 1: week to dive into our analysis and this post game,
- 0:52Speaker 1: you know, just post mortem here of what we saw,
- 0:56Speaker 1: because it's more post mortem of course for the Las
- 0:58Speaker 1: Vegas Raiders, because this Eagles team absolutely dominated them. We've
- 1:01Speaker 1: got our good friend from the Honorable Mention podcast. You
- 1:04Speaker 1: can catch him over on Blue Sky's also over on
- 1:07Speaker 1: Threads every now and again, our good friend Matt Rodgers.
- 1:11Speaker 1: Buddy man. This was a nice game, man, thirty one nothing.
- 1:14Speaker 1: I will take this any day of the week.
- 1:16Speaker 2: It was complimentary football.
- 1:18Speaker 3: Yeah, generally when Jalen has been saying this for some
- 1:22Speaker 3: time in terms of watching the postgame pres conference is
- 1:25Speaker 3: a lot of what people have called some happy talk
- 1:28Speaker 3: and you know, poets, your time with Jalen.
- 1:31Speaker 2: It sounds like he's.
- 1:32Speaker 3: Saying, manage the game, but it was complimentary football in
- 1:35Speaker 3: that the defense was kicking the ass and the offense
- 1:38Speaker 3: was kicking ass.
- 1:39Speaker 2: Yes. Today, I've looked it up and I if this.
- 1:43Speaker 3: Is wrong that I don't know, But there's these websites
- 1:46Speaker 3: where you can go.
- 1:47Speaker 2: They're available for everybody.
- 1:49Speaker 3: And the Eagles today held the Oakland Raiders to their
- 1:53Speaker 3: lowest offensive output since nineteen sixty one October twenty second,
- 1:58Speaker 3: nineteen sixty one.
- 1:59Speaker 2: Give us hold them to seventy two yards.
- 2:02Speaker 1: Yes, it was gonna bring it up.
- 2:04Speaker 2: Yes, seventy two yards. I get that they stay. Yes,
- 2:08Speaker 2: and who's going to argue the counterpoint.
- 2:11Speaker 3: To that, I guess they stay, but not everyone has
- 2:13Speaker 3: held them to sub seventy five yards. I mean that
- 2:17Speaker 3: is that is ridiculous to do and thirty eight thirty
- 2:21Speaker 3: one points.
- 2:22Speaker 2: It's a pretty nice, pretty nice ass kicking.
- 2:24Speaker 1: Joe absolutely think yeah, look, look, you know you kind
- 2:28Speaker 1: of touched on something. And a lot of folks within
- 2:30Speaker 1: the Philly sports world and Eagles Nation are going to
- 2:32Speaker 1: be talking about it this week, like how much should
- 2:34Speaker 1: we make of this win as it relates to the
- 2:36Speaker 1: Eagles outlook really moving forward. I mean, they're certainly not
- 2:40Speaker 1: going to play teams who are this bad every week,
- 2:42Speaker 1: and the Raiders are truly a terrible team. But look,
- 2:45Speaker 1: there is something to be said again about the complimentary
- 2:48Speaker 1: football that you mentioned. You know, we had somebody on
- 2:52Speaker 1: you know, on social mentioned that to us as well.
- 2:54Speaker 1: I mean, there were there the lack of penalties that
- 2:57Speaker 1: the team had, the complimentary football that is being played.
- 3:00Speaker 1: But I think there is something to this team and
- 3:03Speaker 1: this Eagles offense specifically, they needed this confidence boost probably
- 3:10Speaker 1: and this type of performance. They needed something to feel
- 3:13Speaker 1: good about really heading into this final stretch of the season.
- 3:17Speaker 1: We absolutely saw that and this is what was needed.
- 3:20Speaker 1: This is a team that has this talent, like you said,
- 3:22Speaker 1: holding a team to seventy two net yards from this
- 3:27Speaker 1: dominant defense. I mean, these are professional football players on
- 3:30Speaker 1: the other side of the ball. Let's not forget that.
- 3:32Speaker 3: You know.
- 3:33Speaker 1: Just an incredible and fantastic bounce back game for this
- 3:36Speaker 1: Eagles And I think too and I'm mean to talk
- 3:39Speaker 1: too too much here, Matt, certainly want to get some
- 3:42Speaker 1: more themes from you, but I mean the biggest question
- 3:44Speaker 1: heading into this game was could the Eagles fix some
- 3:47Speaker 1: of the things on the offensive side of the ball
- 3:49Speaker 1: against this much lesser of a Raiders team. And the
- 3:52Speaker 1: answer was, yes, we saw creativity. We saw some really
- 3:55Speaker 1: good play design in this game as well. And first
- 3:59Speaker 1: and foremost, I got I gotta mention this. This is
- 4:01Speaker 1: something so small, but I think it actually made a
- 4:03Speaker 1: big difference in this game. We were not seeing Tyler
- 4:06Speaker 1: Steen given the tap to Sam jur sorry Cam Jurgens
- 4:11Speaker 1: to snap the ball on every play of the game
- 4:14Speaker 1: like we have seen all year long. He did it
- 4:16Speaker 1: a few times throughout the game, but that was it,
- 4:20Speaker 1: And that is a big difference in terms of how
- 4:22Speaker 1: the offense was actually being run, how they were setting
- 4:24Speaker 1: up the plays because they weren't notifying the opposing defense
- 4:27Speaker 1: when the ball was going to be snapped.
- 4:29Speaker 3: So it's refreshing, yes, when you can just cannot watch
- 4:34Speaker 3: on TV and just completely call out the snapcale what
- 4:37Speaker 3: if you're defending these.
- 4:38Speaker 2: Guys, that's that's a nice little advantage edge.
- 4:42Speaker 3: Every time the right guard's just gonna go and tap
- 4:44Speaker 3: the center, so there's no ability to do.
- 4:50Speaker 1: Right exactly. So like we all, so, we saw the
- 4:53Speaker 1: offense actually snapping the ball from under center more throughout
- 4:58Speaker 1: this game rather than Hurts being in shock or the
- 5:00Speaker 1: or pistol formation. And honestly, I'm serious when I say this,
- 5:04Speaker 1: like part of me was actually annoyed at how good
- 5:07Speaker 1: this offense looked from under center, because I'm thinking myself,
- 5:10Speaker 1: why hasn't this been the blueprint all freaking year. I mean,
- 5:13Speaker 1: this is something that's always worked for this offense, not
- 5:16Speaker 1: just against the Raiders here, and I hope this is
- 5:19Speaker 1: something that we see more in the future in these
- 5:21Speaker 1: last few games of the regular season.
- 5:22Speaker 2: Matt, are we going with themes here to start off?
- 5:26Speaker 1: Short thing?
- 5:26Speaker 2: Buddy? Yeah?
- 5:27Speaker 1: Go ahead.
- 5:28Speaker 3: So the thing that I watched because I tracked it,
- 5:31Speaker 3: I was looking to see how many freaking plays the
- 5:35Speaker 3: Eagles offense was gonna get a chance to actually run
- 5:37Speaker 3: to me, which I was very impressed with.
- 5:41Speaker 2: It was good.
- 5:42Speaker 3: It was Eagles ran sixty something plays and got three
- 5:47Speaker 3: or sixty five?
- 5:48Speaker 1: Are sixty six plays they ran?
- 5:51Speaker 3: Yes, yep, yes, sixty six plays and a lot of
- 5:55Speaker 3: what they did they were changing up from under center
- 5:58Speaker 3: and shotgun, not go whole series, just stagnant one and
- 6:02Speaker 3: the same formations. And it was nice. I mean, it
- 6:06Speaker 3: was really nice. To see different things being integrated into
- 6:11Speaker 3: the offense.
- 6:12Speaker 1: It was refreshing. That's the word that I'm using here
- 6:15Speaker 1: really to describe this offense. It was refreshing to see
- 6:19Speaker 1: these talented individuals, whether they're on the field or whether
- 6:22Speaker 1: it's a coaching staff being able to implement perhaps a
- 6:24Speaker 1: little something new here or there. And you kind of
- 6:27Speaker 1: saw it right out of the gate on the first
- 6:29Speaker 1: drive of the game, thirteen plays, nine of them were
- 6:32Speaker 1: runs sixty seven yards total and a touchdown then from
- 6:35Speaker 1: Dallas Goddard with that shovel pass from Hurtz to Goddard.
- 6:39Speaker 1: I mean, it was a good mix of play calling
- 6:41Speaker 1: that really helped establish momentum right out of the gate.
- 6:45Speaker 1: And let's also not forget too in terms of another
- 6:48Speaker 1: theme of this game, Jalen Hurts and the designed runs
- 6:52Speaker 1: in this game. I think I calculated five total. There
- 6:55Speaker 1: was one that was a tousch push, of course, but
- 6:57Speaker 1: we're talking about designed runs, five of them, Matt. We're
- 7:02Speaker 1: talking more rpo activity and play calling. When Jalen Hurts
- 7:06Speaker 1: is using his legs, it opens up the offense that
- 7:09Speaker 1: much more. We're not rocket scientists here. We're not rocket
- 7:12Speaker 1: scientists by any stretch of the imagination. What have we
- 7:15Speaker 1: seen with Jalen Hurts for years and years and years.
- 7:17Speaker 1: When he's using his legs, it opens up this offense
- 7:20Speaker 1: so much more to be able to do more on
- 7:22Speaker 1: the ground and even through the air. And it was
- 7:24Speaker 1: so refreshing to see.
- 7:26Speaker 3: What was also refreshing to see. And you know, I
- 7:29Speaker 3: root for AJ Brown.
- 7:30Speaker 2: I think A J. Brown is one of I'll never
- 7:32Speaker 2: argue that A. J.
- 7:33Speaker 3: Brown's anything less than top eight wide receiver in football.
- 7:37Speaker 3: I mean, he's excellent football player, has pretty much the
- 7:40Speaker 3: total package, except for not the Brett taking speed. He
- 7:44Speaker 3: can get he can get open, but he's not if
- 7:46Speaker 3: he can if he catches a slant.
- 7:49Speaker 2: Is he really going to take it ninety yards? I
- 7:51Speaker 2: don't believe so. Like Dshaun Jackson used to that's the
- 7:53Speaker 2: only little thing in his game.
- 7:55Speaker 3: I believe two catches today for forty one yards in
- 7:58Speaker 3: the touchdown yep.
- 7:59Speaker 2: I mean I'm fine with that, absolutely, AJ That's great.
- 8:03Speaker 2: I mean, you played your part today in every single play.
- 8:06Speaker 2: You're playing your part. That happened to the best of them,
- 8:10Speaker 2: happens to the best of them.
- 8:11Speaker 1: Absolutely.
- 8:14Speaker 3: It allows other people like Dallas Goddard. Dallas Godder goes
- 8:18Speaker 3: too often.
- 8:19Speaker 2: We never hear this. You know, he's not on the
- 8:21Speaker 2: same level as Aj Brown, but this offense goes well when.
- 8:24Speaker 3: They get Dallas Godder involved, they make they take pains
- 8:28Speaker 3: to get Dallas Godder at the ball and the shovel passes,
- 8:31Speaker 3: not the tight end screen.
- 8:32Speaker 2: And I'm so glad we didn't see.
- 8:34Speaker 1: We didn't see it once. You couldn't believe it. We
- 8:40Speaker 1: didn't see that tight end screen once that we all
- 8:42Speaker 1: always see game at least twice a game, at least,
- 8:46Speaker 1: if not three times a game. We did not see
- 8:49Speaker 1: that tight end scream. But you're absolutely absolutely correct. Dallas
- 8:53Speaker 1: Goddard was targeted seven times in this game, caught six
- 8:56Speaker 1: balls for seventy yards two touchdowns, the average eleven point
- 8:59Speaker 1: seven yards reception. That's what we want to see. It's
- 9:02Speaker 1: a great point, Matt.
- 9:05Speaker 2: Take what the defense gives you. That's that's what sports.
- 9:08Speaker 2: That's what sports is.
- 9:09Speaker 3: I mean, you know, like in baseball, you may want
- 9:12Speaker 3: to in the big spot, you know, hit it over,
- 9:15Speaker 3: you know, smash it.
- 9:16Speaker 2: Out out of the park.
- 9:17Speaker 3: But maybe what they're giving you, you're just gonna have
- 9:20Speaker 3: to hit it the opposite way.
- 9:22Speaker 2: A little blooper out to left field.
- 9:24Speaker 3: Okay, if you're a left handed hitter, just bloop it
- 9:26Speaker 3: out because that's what the defense gives you. The basketball,
- 9:29Speaker 3: same thing. You're gonna give me the mid range. You're
- 9:31Speaker 3: gonna press up on me too much. Yeah, I would
- 9:33Speaker 3: love to show everybody that could shoot the three pointer. Ya,
- 9:36Speaker 3: But on this possession, you're way too damn close to me.
- 9:39Speaker 3: So I'm gonna blow past you, and I'm gonna, you know,
- 9:41Speaker 3: see at the rim. Maybe next possession you'll do something
- 9:44Speaker 3: different than I can show.
- 9:44Speaker 2: I have the jumper. But play to play, and that's
- 9:47Speaker 2: what Jalen Hurts does.
- 9:48Speaker 3: Well.
- 9:48Speaker 2: I'm glad that Jalen Hurts. This week another theme just
- 9:51Speaker 2: went back to playing Jalen and I understand again.
- 9:53Speaker 3: Once again, we all understand, and everybody's gonna have some
- 9:56Speaker 3: level of questioning how much all of this is transferable
- 9:59Speaker 3: to any game. They have three more games, two against
- 10:03Speaker 3: another team that's not very good, and so in order
- 10:06Speaker 3: to get to the playoffs, the job right now is
- 10:08Speaker 3: to get some momentum, get some it's you know, really
- 10:11Speaker 3: they need some scrimmage.
- 10:12Speaker 2: They didn't get. Also, they don't play.
- 10:14Speaker 3: In the preseason, and so you know, maybe they need
- 10:17Speaker 3: the back half of the season preseason to get the
- 10:19Speaker 3: offense going.
- 10:20Speaker 2: We know the defense is going, and if they can
- 10:23Speaker 2: get half of.
- 10:24Speaker 3: This to transfer, some of this innovation and some of
- 10:28Speaker 3: this spark to transfer over if I'm if I'm the
- 10:32Speaker 3: Chicago Bears, or if I'm the Green Bay Packers, or
- 10:35Speaker 3: if i am you know, the forty nine, any of
- 10:37Speaker 3: these teams in the NFC, even the Rams. The Rams, guys,
- 10:41Speaker 3: the Rams have lost to the Philadelphia Eagles three straight.
- 10:44Speaker 2: Times, including one time when they had them.
- 10:47Speaker 3: Down three scores in the second half this season, while
- 10:51Speaker 3: the Eagles have had this funk hanging over them since
- 10:54Speaker 3: Week one, since they started raining and they got raided
- 10:57Speaker 3: out of the Jalen Hurts cooked all the way up
- 11:00Speaker 3: the Cowboys.
- 11:00Speaker 2: And the Eagles didn't score it all.
- 11:01Speaker 3: And just like you said earlier, Jeff, sorry to keep
- 11:04Speaker 3: rambling all this, but it's important to understand this in
- 11:07Speaker 3: the scheme of the season.
- 11:09Speaker 2: And so the three games left is just about momentum.
- 11:12Speaker 1: Absolutely, And look another theme for me, and I think
- 11:17Speaker 1: it's important for us to realize too, it wasn't all
- 11:19Speaker 1: lollipops and rainbows. You know, it wasn't perfect by any
- 11:23Speaker 1: stretch of the imagination. When it comes to this Eagles
- 11:26Speaker 1: offense run blocking, it still had its challenges. We saw
- 11:32Speaker 1: some baffling decisions throughout this game from a run blocking standpoint.
- 11:38Speaker 1: I mean, this has been a constant theme game after
- 11:41Speaker 1: game after game. And what I'm talking about is this
- 11:44Speaker 1: Eagles offensive coaching staff asking Grant Calcatara to block on
- 11:48Speaker 1: specific run plays, asking Grant cal Katara to block Max
- 11:52Speaker 1: Crosby on like a half a dozen run plays. One
- 11:56Speaker 1: in particular we saw in the second quarter was just
- 11:59Speaker 1: completely blow because he's a terrible blocker. Saquon Barkley loses
- 12:03Speaker 1: four yards on that particular play. It's just insane kind
- 12:07Speaker 1: of how they keep doing this over and over again.
- 12:09Speaker 1: And yes, I did see there was one play where
- 12:11Speaker 1: Grant kal Katara had a nice block on a Saquon
- 12:14Speaker 1: Barkley run to the outside on the right side of
- 12:16Speaker 1: the on the right side of the offensive line. He
- 12:18Speaker 1: wasn't he wasn't blocking Max Crosby. I'll tell you that
- 12:21Speaker 1: right now. But I mean, all this did, though, having
- 12:24Speaker 1: kal katar out there was invite Raiders defenders into the
- 12:27Speaker 1: box that much more. And kal Katara, who cannot block anybody. Uh,
- 12:33Speaker 1: the the offensive had a number of rushing plays that
- 12:35Speaker 1: were just blown up. So it's been the case all
- 12:37Speaker 1: season and it's insane that they keep running this crap.
- 12:41Speaker 3: Really, And also in terms of in terms of defending
- 12:45Speaker 3: the Eagles, if I'm again always in the thought experiment,
- 12:47Speaker 3: if you're defending yourself, if I'm defending the Eagles, you're okay,
- 12:53Speaker 3: cal Katara, I'm gonna get.
- 12:54Speaker 2: You one on one with the linebacker or I may,
- 12:58Speaker 2: I may leave.
- 13:00Speaker 3: I mean, you obviously never really want to leave anybody
- 13:03Speaker 3: wide open. But I'm not really worried about Calcaterra kill.
- 13:08Speaker 3: He is for years not shown that he can really
- 13:11Speaker 3: hurt people that. I mean, what's he got maybe five
- 13:14Speaker 3: hundred receiving yards in his whole career. Yeah, so even
- 13:18Speaker 3: in the receiving game, he's not that much of a threat.
- 13:21Speaker 3: So if he's not that much of a threat, he
- 13:23Speaker 3: sees the field entirely too much for me, and I
- 13:26Speaker 3: need to.
- 13:26Speaker 2: Slam a guy like that.
- 13:27Speaker 3: But for all of the playmakers that this team has,
- 13:32Speaker 3: he gets he is.
- 13:33Speaker 2: On the field too much. And I'm not and I
- 13:35Speaker 2: wouldn't be afraid of him if I was an opposing.
- 13:36Speaker 1: Defense, absolutely absolutely. Well, look, you mentioned Dallas Goddard, him
- 13:43Speaker 1: being really a key component of this game. You know,
- 13:47Speaker 1: he did miss an easy touchdown as well. I mean,
- 13:50Speaker 1: right there at that particular point in time. I mean,
- 13:52Speaker 1: we saw lack of fundamentals, a lack of execution that
- 13:55Speaker 1: has been discussed week after week after week. I mean,
- 13:58Speaker 1: and it's a crazy and I wanted to bring it up,
- 14:02Speaker 1: a crazy stat that Dallas Goddard has only twenty career
- 14:06Speaker 1: drops in the regular and postseason before that key drop
- 14:10Speaker 1: that he had in the end zone during this game.
- 14:12Speaker 1: I mean, that was his twenty first career drop. He
- 14:15Speaker 1: is basically money, you know, and it was great that
- 14:18Speaker 1: he got involved in the game. But again, we did
- 14:20Speaker 1: see a lack of execution, lack of fundamentals on that
- 14:23Speaker 1: particular play. And we're still seeing it with the offensive
- 14:26Speaker 1: line too. So again, not everything is lollipops and rainbows
- 14:30Speaker 1: with this Eagles team, and specifically the offense. Buddy, I
- 14:33Speaker 1: was gonna move over to the defense unless you had
- 14:35Speaker 1: anything else with the offense you wanted to dive into. No,
- 14:38Speaker 1: that's good, all right, Well, look, I mean I hate
- 14:42Speaker 1: to say, we're gonna go a little quick here with
- 14:44Speaker 1: the defense, but like they were so dominant, Like you said,
- 14:47Speaker 1: seventy two net yards is what they gave up in
- 14:50Speaker 1: this game. Look a few key points and Q excuse me,
- 14:55Speaker 1: my gosh, I can't speak, and a few key players
- 14:58Speaker 1: I want to mention. Moroj had his fifth sack of
- 15:01Speaker 1: the season, and it was his first since October twenty sixth.
- 15:04Speaker 2: We had the team.
- 15:06Speaker 1: Yeah, I think he might be. I think he might be.
- 15:09Speaker 1: If I'm not because out I feel.
- 15:10Speaker 2: Like coming into the sea they I have to look
- 15:12Speaker 2: it up. But he's kind of anyways.
- 15:14Speaker 1: Please well, I was gonna say, and we saw the
- 15:17Speaker 1: one and the only beg Brandon Graham with actually two
- 15:21Speaker 1: sacks in this game, only one counted in the box
- 15:24Speaker 1: score because of Cooper Dejan's stupid freaking penalties. He became
- 15:28Speaker 1: the oldest player in Eagles history to record a sack
- 15:30Speaker 1: in a game. He had Zach Bond with the interception
- 15:33Speaker 1: in the third quarter. That was his second interception of
- 15:36Speaker 1: the season. He only had one last year and now
- 15:40Speaker 1: Nolan Smith. He's up to three sacks now since his
- 15:44Speaker 1: sixth game, or in his past six games since returning
- 15:47Speaker 1: from ir but I kind of wanted to maybe end
- 15:50Speaker 1: this year the defensive discussion about how good is Nakobe Dean?
- 15:55Speaker 1: How good has he been developing over these past couple
- 15:58Speaker 1: seasons here? Man, I love watching him play football. I
- 16:02Speaker 1: love his pursuit of the ball.
- 16:03Speaker 2: Matt It kind of says it all.
- 16:06Speaker 3: It kind of says from top to it says it
- 16:08Speaker 3: all that the Eagles top pick in the NFL draft
- 16:13Speaker 3: was Johad Campbell, and they've moved, and then they have
- 16:16Speaker 3: moved effectively. He got benched while playing well, that's how well,
- 16:23Speaker 3: that's how well Na Kobe Dean is playing on the
- 16:27Speaker 3: defending Super Bowl champion. Yes, they go and pick a
- 16:30Speaker 3: linebacker and he really doesn't see the field.
- 16:35Speaker 2: To be honest, he's not seeing the field as as
- 16:37Speaker 2: a pass rusher. He must not be doing.
- 16:39Speaker 3: Him that great in that respect. He was playing well
- 16:41Speaker 3: at linebacker. I want to be perfectly clear. It wasn't
- 16:43Speaker 3: a benching because John Campbell was getting roasted.
- 16:46Speaker 1: It's just the Kobe Dean's that good.
- 16:48Speaker 2: Is a game is a game changer.
- 16:50Speaker 3: I mean, every every run, every running back and center
- 16:54Speaker 3: is having nightmares about Na Kobe Deane.
- 16:57Speaker 2: That that blitz every week.
- 16:59Speaker 1: It is great, man. It is great to see this
- 17:02Speaker 1: Philadelphia Eagles defense. Four sacks total in this game, six
- 17:06Speaker 1: tackles for a lost, nine quarterback hits. This is that
- 17:10Speaker 1: type of consistency we love to see from this Eagles team.
- 17:13Speaker 1: Another dominant performance as they had last week as well.
- 17:17Speaker 1: I just this team is really riding on this defense,
- 17:21Speaker 1: and if they're going to remain consistent and successful for
- 17:26Speaker 1: these last three games of the season, as they're looking
- 17:28Speaker 1: potentially at this playoff picture here, this defense is really
- 17:31Speaker 1: going to have to be the rock. They're going to
- 17:33Speaker 1: have to be the foundation of what this team can do.
- 17:36Speaker 2: Matt absolutely, yeah, and I think they can get there. Yeah.
- 17:43Speaker 2: I mean, I'm.
- 17:43Speaker 3: Obviously not going to put my bank account of my
- 17:46Speaker 3: savings account.
- 17:47Speaker 2: Right yeah, what in the Super Bowl, right I think?
- 17:51Speaker 3: But to just address that and how far the offense
- 17:55Speaker 3: can allow them to go and only a thirty second
- 17:57Speaker 3: version is I mean, I really just think that they
- 18:01Speaker 3: need to be middling to explosive play here or there offense,
- 18:08Speaker 3: because they've already knocked out so many really good teams
- 18:12Speaker 3: this year playing mid ball, so that next gear is
- 18:18Speaker 3: there and everybody can see it.
- 18:19Speaker 2: For bits and spurts, but can they string it together?
- 18:23Speaker 2: That's the only thing.
- 18:24Speaker 3: And they get two crash dummies in the Commanders back
- 18:27Speaker 3: in starting Saturday, they play the Bills, then they play
- 18:31Speaker 3: the Commanders again.
- 18:32Speaker 1: Yep. So yeah, well it is going to be fantastic
- 18:35Speaker 1: to see where this team goes this coming week playing
- 18:38Speaker 1: the Washington Commanders on Saturday.
- 18:41Speaker 2: There.
- 18:41Speaker 1: As you mentioned, Matt, I'm going to take a break
- 18:44Speaker 1: here and when we get back, how about we do
- 18:46Speaker 1: some grades. We're going to grade by unit. Is that
- 18:49Speaker 1: cool with you? All right, folks, we are going to
- 18:51Speaker 1: take a break, but before if you're watching on YouTube,

- 19:40Speaker 1: and subscribe to the Honorable Mention podcast. Always great discussions
- 19:44Speaker 1: over there with Matt and his guests. And let's dive
- 19:47Speaker 1: into the grades here the quarterback position. This week, we
- 19:51Speaker 1: did have Jalen Hurtz throw fifteen balls. He completed twelve
- 19:54Speaker 1: of them for one hundred and seventy five yards eleven
- 19:57Speaker 1: point seven yards per attempt. He had three total touchdowns.
- 20:01Speaker 1: He averaged or I should say his rating was one
- 20:04Speaker 1: hundred and fifty four point nine. Tanna McKee threw three
- 20:07Speaker 1: balls in this game for thirty three yards. He averaged
- 20:09Speaker 1: eleven yards per attempt, and he ended with a rating
- 20:13Speaker 1: of one hundred and twelve point five. Quarterback positions getting
- 20:17Speaker 1: an A plus for me this week? Buddy? What is it?
- 20:20Speaker 2: Given him an A plus? Surprising?
- 20:22Speaker 3: Yes? And when I share this for me, I'm gonna
- 20:26Speaker 3: surprisingly say, b plus.
- 20:27Speaker 2: I gotta read this on occur, all right, I.
- 20:30Speaker 3: Love the performance, I thought. And that's why I think.
- 20:33Speaker 3: You know, for the people, they'll be like, whoa, but
- 20:38Speaker 3: I I yeah, I gotta see this against the Bills.
- 20:44Speaker 1: I hear you. I hear you. Folks. Leave some comments,
- 20:48Speaker 1: leave some comments for Matt about his b plus Chanler Hurts.
- 20:53Speaker 2: I mean people's opinion of me.
- 20:56Speaker 3: I think I'm a philadelp Eagles fan and a viewer
- 20:59Speaker 3: and lover of the game in football.
- 21:00Speaker 1: Yes you are.
- 21:02Speaker 3: But people have said I'm a Jalen hurt Sky, So
- 21:05Speaker 3: take that. Take what I'm saying with that in mind,
- 21:09Speaker 3: I just Crosby. They have players over there, but I
- 21:15Speaker 3: do I want to Yeah, okay. And they didn't completely
- 21:21Speaker 3: gut them. I mean they were the Raiders were in
- 21:24Speaker 3: the game for.
- 21:27Speaker 2: Much of the game.
- 21:28Speaker 1: Oho, I'll Braiden Man punted one time. Brandon Man punted
- 21:33Speaker 1: one time. Yes, let's move over to the running back position.
- 21:39Speaker 1: Saquon Barkley, Tank Bigsby. Look, I this is a reflection
- 21:45Speaker 1: these numbers here Saquon Barkley carrying the ball for twenty
- 21:48Speaker 1: two or twenty two times for seventy eight yards. He
- 21:51Speaker 1: averaged three point five yards per carry one touchdown. Tank
- 21:53Speaker 1: Bigsby seventeen carries for fifty seven yards. You average three
- 21:56Speaker 1: point four yards per carry. This grade here is not
- 22:00Speaker 1: necessarily reflective of the actual running backs themselves, but the
- 22:04Speaker 1: correlation between the run blocking that we talked about before
- 22:08Speaker 1: the break. I'm going to give the running backs this
- 22:10Speaker 1: week of B plus. Actually, what are you.
- 22:12Speaker 3: Going to give them, buddy, I'm going to give him
- 22:13Speaker 3: the Yeah, that's where I'm at for them as well.
- 22:16Speaker 3: I love what I saw from just you know, I
- 22:19Speaker 3: don't we don't need to believer it much, but I
- 22:21Speaker 3: really want to say I loved I love Tank Bigby's
- 22:25Speaker 3: running style, especially with the attrition that's hit sa kuon Barkley.
- 22:28Speaker 3: You can tell he's kind of I don't want to
- 22:31Speaker 3: say he's hurt, but you could tell he's felt all
- 22:34Speaker 3: of this contact over the last eighteen months. So it's
- 22:38Speaker 3: good to have big Who's going to finish the run
- 22:41Speaker 3: going north south?
- 22:42Speaker 2: It absolute really nice finished in that fourth quarter. I mean,
- 22:45Speaker 2: they just kept hit.
- 22:47Speaker 3: I couldn't believe how many runs I expect me to
- 22:49Speaker 3: see Tanner McKee be able.
- 22:50Speaker 2: To throw the ball a little more. They just run, run, run, run, run, run, run, run.
- 22:54Speaker 1: Yeah, it was crazy. It was good to see. It
- 22:56Speaker 1: was absolutely good to see, all right. The receivers in
- 22:59Speaker 1: this game. No receiver on this Eagles team had over
- 23:03Speaker 1: one hundred yards. But like I mentioned before, Dallas Goddard
- 23:05Speaker 1: had seventy yards on six catches. Davante Smith had fifty
- 23:08Speaker 1: yards on two catches. He was only targeted twice. Aj
- 23:12Speaker 1: Brown was only targeted twice. He came down with both
- 23:14Speaker 1: balls for forty one yards and a touchdown. Darius Cooper
- 23:17Speaker 1: he saw two targets, caught both of them for twenty
- 23:21Speaker 1: nine yards, and then you had Barkley catching a couple.
- 23:24Speaker 1: Grant Calcatara caught one for four yards as well. I'm
- 23:27Speaker 1: gonna give the receivers in this game, because they did
- 23:28Speaker 1: what they were asked to do. I'm gonna give them
- 23:31Speaker 1: an A. What do you give them?
- 23:33Speaker 3: I agree, because there weren't any I'm trying to think
- 23:37Speaker 3: other than the touchdown.
- 23:38Speaker 2: Other than the touchdown drop.
- 23:40Speaker 1: It would have been an A plus for me. It
- 23:42Speaker 1: would have been an a plus for me if Goddard
- 23:44Speaker 1: had not dropped that and.
- 23:46Speaker 3: Another really big play in the positive direction, getting that
- 23:49Speaker 3: first down and not mix Sirianni in the first half,
- 23:52Speaker 3: not having to use the challenge on that obvious first
- 23:57Speaker 3: game as Avante caught going towards the sideline.
- 24:01Speaker 1: Yeah, replay assist was very helpful with that, thankfully.
- 24:04Speaker 3: Yes, you never know how much those plays come. You know,
- 24:08Speaker 3: Davonte comes up shallow and that runs his route a
- 24:11Speaker 3: little shallo It doesn't run it right at the first
- 24:13Speaker 3: down marker, Yeah, or you drop that ball that that
- 24:18Speaker 3: Those make a big difference getting that first down, not
- 24:20Speaker 3: getting that first down.
- 24:21Speaker 2: Yep, I gotta agree.
- 24:22Speaker 3: I guess why receiver is probably going to get my
- 24:24Speaker 3: highest rate on the offensive side.
- 24:26Speaker 1: Okay, all right, surprising because.
- 24:28Speaker 2: The statistics you would look. No one would look at
- 24:30Speaker 2: the statistics and say, oh yeah, they bowled out today.
- 24:32Speaker 3: But I think, like you said, they were, they did
- 24:34Speaker 3: exactly what they were asked to do.
- 24:36Speaker 1: It's interesting because the offensive line, I think is going
- 24:39Speaker 1: to be the lowest grade that we give on the
- 24:41Speaker 1: offense this week. Got it in run blocking not so
- 24:44Speaker 1: great and past protection not too bad this week at
- 24:48Speaker 1: all by any stretch. And like it's a it's a
- 24:51Speaker 1: I wish I could do two different grades here. I'm
- 24:54Speaker 1: not going to do that. I'm just going to give
- 24:56Speaker 1: them an overall C plus. It could be a B minus,
- 24:59Speaker 1: but A gonna give him a C plus just because
- 25:01Speaker 1: the run blocking was not good. And again I don't
- 25:03Speaker 1: necessarily know if it's the talent on the field just
- 25:06Speaker 1: not being able to do what the coaches or asking them,
- 25:08Speaker 1: or if the coaches are just not seeing what's going
- 25:11Speaker 1: on again with the Grant Calcatara thing. And I know
- 25:14Speaker 1: he's not an offensive lineman, but still there are offensive lines.
- 25:17Speaker 1: There are times when Landon Dickerson is like in the
- 25:19Speaker 1: backfield that he's like looking around like he should have
- 25:22Speaker 1: been blocking somebody. There are issues and communication problems still
- 25:26Speaker 1: with this offensive line. It's C plus B minus territory
- 25:30Speaker 1: for me. But I'm gonna go with the C plus
- 25:31Speaker 1: this week. What do you give him, buddy, I'll.
- 25:34Speaker 2: Go with the C plus.
- 25:36Speaker 3: But they they're they you know, they're a little close
- 25:39Speaker 3: to closer. Fred Johnson got away with a couple of holes.
- 25:44Speaker 1: A couple of big holes. Yes, let's be honest. Yes,
- 25:47Speaker 1: my god, we're not we're talking about we're talking about
- 25:51Speaker 1: choke holds. Yes, w yes, exactly. He was getting ready
- 25:57Speaker 1: to put a guy asleep in that hold, you.
- 26:00Speaker 3: Know, just being honest, folks, obviously, folks know who you know,
- 26:07Speaker 3: which team is our favorite?
- 26:08Speaker 1: Yes, But facts are facts, I mean, and we love facts.
- 26:12Speaker 1: You know that, buddy. We don't skirt the facts with
- 26:15Speaker 1: anything we do in life.
- 26:19Speaker 2: You can't.
- 26:20Speaker 3: You can't because because then you're going to be delusional.
- 26:23Speaker 3: You'll make bad decisions off of bad facts. It would
- 26:26Speaker 3: be bad facts to say, I mean, well, bad facts
- 26:29Speaker 3: aren't facts.
- 26:29Speaker 2: Bad facts are called lies. It would be a lie.
- 26:36Speaker 3: It would be a lie to say that Fred Johnson
- 26:39Speaker 3: had a great day, right, And I can't really count
- 26:43Speaker 3: any days this year that Landon Dickerson's had a great day. Yeah,
- 26:48Speaker 3: my lot of had a I think my lot of
- 26:50Speaker 3: I didn't have any moments where I was like a
- 26:52Speaker 3: lot of what's going on?
- 26:53Speaker 1: He wasn't penalized. He wasn't penalized, Thank goodness. Now, look, lane.
- 27:00Speaker 2: Jo, talk myself into a c. Jeff, Okay, here, you
- 27:02Speaker 2: got it. There, you do it all right.
- 27:05Speaker 1: Look, it's gonna be good to have Lane Johnson back
- 27:07Speaker 1: on the offensive line sooner rather than later. Look, fifteen
- 27:10Speaker 1: of the last twenty two games without Lane Johnson, this
- 27:13Speaker 1: Eagles team has lost. So it'll be good to have
- 27:15Speaker 1: him back in whatever capacity. Is able to get back.
- 27:17Speaker 1: So let's move over.
- 27:18Speaker 3: They historically don't play great as a team without lane Johns.
- 27:21Speaker 1: Yes, exactly, exactly, Yeah, really incredible what one guy is
- 27:25Speaker 1: able to do and really be able to be that
- 27:28Speaker 1: glue for this team in general. So let's move on
- 27:31Speaker 1: the defensive side of the ball. Dude, I don't even
- 27:33Speaker 1: know if we should go through all units seventy two
- 27:36Speaker 1: total net yards. We're talking interceptions, we're talking turnovers, we're
- 27:40Speaker 1: talking sacks, a lot of quarterback hits, we're talking dominant
- 27:44Speaker 1: defensive play. I'm just gonna give everybody an A plus
- 27:47Speaker 1: to be honest with you, and if you want to
- 27:48Speaker 1: go through them again, they all get an A plus.
- 27:50Speaker 1: For me, I mean zero points.
- 27:53Speaker 3: If you play a high school JB football team and
- 27:57Speaker 3: you hold into seventy two points, giving you an a plus.
- 28:01Speaker 1: Yes, seventy two yards, Yes, seventy two.
- 28:03Speaker 3: Yards if you hold them to seventy If you play
- 28:06Speaker 3: a JB high school team, a freshman high school team,
- 28:10Speaker 3: and you hold them to seventy two yards, yes.
- 28:12Speaker 2: There are gadgets.
- 28:13Speaker 3: There are ways to scheme up seventy two yards.
- 28:17Speaker 1: That's one drive.
- 28:18Speaker 2: Many teams do that on one drive. One play.
- 28:21Speaker 3: Yep, yeah, seventy two yards in sixty minutes of football.
- 28:27Speaker 1: That's it's crazy.
- 28:30Speaker 2: That's a yard and some change per minute.
- 28:32Speaker 1: Yes, it's crazy. That's crazy. Yes, they're a bad team.
- 28:37Speaker 1: The Raiders are a terrible offensive team. But still, folks, they.
- 28:40Speaker 2: Whoop their asses today.
- 28:42Speaker 3: You can play bad teams and bad offenses and give
- 28:45Speaker 3: them all their highlights for the season.
- 28:47Speaker 2: Eagles.
- 28:48Speaker 3: That is what I want to give the team collectively
- 28:50Speaker 3: credit for doing is walking in here and kicking their
- 28:53Speaker 3: teeth in the way they were supposed to.
- 28:54Speaker 1: Yes, absolutely, absolutely. All right, let's go through some of
- 28:57Speaker 1: the coaching and we'll go through each each unit in
- 29:02Speaker 1: terms of the coaching. Special teams did what they needed
- 29:06Speaker 1: to do. I give him a bee? What do you
- 29:07Speaker 1: give them?
- 29:09Speaker 2: I give him a bee? These Covey is a magician.
- 29:13Speaker 3: Covey's one of the things that scare me because it
- 29:17Speaker 3: just always looks a little He's so good, but stuff
- 29:22Speaker 3: just looks so scary with him. It always looks like
- 29:24Speaker 3: he's like an inch from fumbling. I think I need
- 29:29Speaker 3: him to type Britain. Covey, if you're listening, I need
- 29:32Speaker 3: you to tighten up.
- 29:33Speaker 2: I believe in you. And I'm glad that Dave brought
- 29:36Speaker 2: you back, that you're getting opportunities. It's the pun returner job.
- 29:41Speaker 2: Is your job, yep. But I need you, but I
- 29:44Speaker 2: need you to just chill out a little bit.
- 29:47Speaker 1: Absolutely, Braiden Man one one punt from Braiden Man forty
- 29:53Speaker 1: three yards.
- 29:54Speaker 2: Jill even evaluate him.
- 29:55Speaker 1: Yeah, I know it wasn't that great of a fund.
- 29:59Speaker 1: I mean it was all right. But and Loug, Jake Elliott,
- 30:03Speaker 1: I don't know if you want to call it a
- 30:04Speaker 1: bounce back game from him. You know, we were talking
- 30:06Speaker 1: recently on the show how this may be his last year.
- 30:09Speaker 1: It's just been, it's been. There's been some challenges for
- 30:12Speaker 1: Jake Elliott, but he made his twenty seven yard field goal,
- 30:14Speaker 1: made four extra points in today's games, So be that
- 30:18Speaker 1: as it may given to be. To the special teams defense,
- 30:22Speaker 1: Vic Fangio, a plus dude, I mean again, what else
- 30:26Speaker 1: are we going to say? A plus man?
- 30:29Speaker 2: You gotta do it, and and you gotta do it.
- 30:31Speaker 2: You gotta go put it out there on film.
- 30:33Speaker 3: Anybody could say, I keep getting threading this into each
- 30:37Speaker 3: thing because it's always like yeah, but it's the Raiders.
- 30:40Speaker 2: But you've got to go out there and actually do it.
- 30:42Speaker 3: Yeah, when out there actually did it, put a scheme
- 30:44Speaker 3: together that they were able to execute, and they executed it.
- 30:47Speaker 2: I can't give him anything but an A plus.
- 30:50Speaker 1: Yep. Offensive coaching nixt Ariane Kevin Patulo. Again, you know,
- 30:55Speaker 1: maybe this game is going to provide some higher level
- 31:00Speaker 1: of confidence, like I said at the onset of this
- 31:02Speaker 1: postgame show, for this Eagles offense to really start moving
- 31:06Speaker 1: the ball in doing it in a consistent way where
- 31:08Speaker 1: they're not turning it over, where the confidence is really there.
- 31:12Speaker 1: And I hope this game is going to be that
- 31:13Speaker 1: confidence booster for this offense. And again, this is an
- 31:17Speaker 1: offense where you know they were on the field for
- 31:21Speaker 1: quite some time, and when we're talking about time of
- 31:24Speaker 1: possession thirty nine minutes and twenty five seconds. I am
- 31:28Speaker 1: extremely happy with how Kevin Petullo and Nick Sirianni were
- 31:31Speaker 1: running the show here. And I'm actually going to give
- 31:33Speaker 1: them an A this week. And I don't think we
- 31:36Speaker 1: have given offense as a pair as a pair, I mean
- 31:39Speaker 1: as a pair. Yeah, that's because that's what we usually
- 31:40Speaker 1: do with offensive coaching, usually as a pair. I'm going
- 31:43Speaker 1: to give them an A this week, again we saw creativity.
- 31:46Speaker 1: The play design was different. It was fun to watch
- 31:49Speaker 1: this offense and again yes against a lowlier type of
- 31:53Speaker 1: Raiders defense and team, but still they did what they
- 31:56Speaker 1: should have done and they did it effectively. I'm going
- 31:59Speaker 1: to give the offensive coaching and a this week.
- 32:01Speaker 2: Buddy, Yeah, I can't give him an A plus. But
- 32:05Speaker 2: there were only like one or two grown plays. And
- 32:08Speaker 2: if you'd like it's the Eagles, you know exactly what
- 32:11Speaker 2: I'm talking about, Like, yes, what was that?
- 32:14Speaker 3: There was only like a couple of those today, and
- 32:18Speaker 3: otherwise it was it was fluid.
- 32:20Speaker 2: It felt like it had a theme to it.
- 32:23Speaker 3: Some things that were concepts that were seeming the start
- 32:26Speaker 3: to build off of each other. Yep, and I and
- 32:30Speaker 3: they got conservative at the end. I really liked that
- 32:32Speaker 3: they didn't play around too much to try to let
- 32:34Speaker 3: Tanner start throwing it all over the art. You know,
- 32:36Speaker 3: you want to see a little bit of that because
- 32:38Speaker 3: you want to make sure that he's ready to throw
- 32:40Speaker 3: against you know, uh, top dbs, but not in this game.
- 32:44Speaker 3: You instead of a thirty one seven is a little
- 32:47Speaker 3: different than thirty one zero.
- 32:48Speaker 2: I think that zero is a big thing, and that's
- 32:51Speaker 2: why I wanted to.
- 32:52Speaker 3: I want to give Nick an a plus as a
- 32:54Speaker 3: head coach just by himself to that it was important
- 32:57Speaker 3: to get the to get the zero.
- 33:02Speaker 2: Yes.
- 33:03Speaker 3: And I was going to text you this earlier, Jeff,
- 33:05Speaker 3: that my bar today.
- 33:07Speaker 2: Was twenty eight. I needed the Eagles to score at
- 33:09Speaker 2: twenty eight.
- 33:10Speaker 1: There you go. Yes, And they did that and then
- 33:13Speaker 1: some and they did it in a convincing fashion, playing
- 33:16Speaker 1: complimentary football, man like. That's what we've been wanting to see.
- 33:20Speaker 1: So well, this is a great postgame show again, folks.
