- 0:14Speaker 1: yard practice shots. It's a great place to chip and
- 0:16Speaker 1: putt and practice. If you don't have time for a
- 0:19Speaker 1: full round, book your tea time today golf dot Breck
- 0:23Speaker 1: dot org. Golf dot Breck dot org.
- 0:25Speaker 2: Look he's got an even keel uh temperament and uh
- 0:30Speaker 2: that was on full display last year. And look it
- 0:33Speaker 2: doesn't mean that inside he wasn't churning and grinding and upset,
- 0:38Speaker 2: but stayed the course. It was impressive.
- 0:41Speaker 1: Mickey Loomis talking about second year Saints head coach Kellen
- 0:45Speaker 1: Moore six wins in his maiden voyage. What do you
- 0:48Speaker 1: do for a noncore? Let's ask Jeff Dunkin. He's on
- 0:51Speaker 1: Twitter at Jeff Duncan underscore. Good enough to join us
- 0:54Speaker 1: here on the eve of Saints Campnola dot Com, The
- 0:56Speaker 1: Times picky un Jeff.
- 0:57Speaker 3: We always appreciate him. Man, How are.
- 0:58Speaker 4: You doing good? Matt, Good to hear from you.
- 1:01Speaker 3: Buddy, it's our pleasure. Thank you.
- 1:04Speaker 1: What's your thoughts on just generally speaking, Kellen Moore entering
- 1:08Speaker 1: year two.
- 1:10Speaker 4: Well, he definitely seems more comfortable and confident, I'd say, Matt,
- 1:14Speaker 4: and I guess that's to be expected, right, He's going
- 1:18Speaker 4: into year two, He's got most of his or all
- 1:21Speaker 4: of his staff back from a year ago. Players know
- 1:25Speaker 4: what to expect from him, he knows kind of the routine.
- 1:29Speaker 4: I think he's said today he can just notice the
- 1:32Speaker 4: practices are more crisp, everybody's more comfortable, and I think
- 1:37Speaker 4: he's starting to kind of grow into his own skin
- 1:39Speaker 4: a little bit, and we're getting to see a little
- 1:42Speaker 4: bit more of an identity with Kellen Moore as a
- 1:45Speaker 4: head coach, which none of us really knew about this
- 1:47Speaker 4: time of year ago.
- 1:48Speaker 1: If you can, it's been twenty years, But can you
- 1:52Speaker 1: comp Kellen Moore to Sean Payton in the offseason after
- 1:57Speaker 1: their first season? The coach understand Payton went to the
- 1:59Speaker 1: play the Nacy Champo game in his first season, but like,
- 2:02Speaker 1: just what what maybe it feels like going year to year.
- 2:06Speaker 4: Yeah, Look, I think Micky Loomis kind of talks a
- 2:08Speaker 4: little bit about that today where both instances, you know,
- 2:12Speaker 4: Mickey Lowis was kind of the mentor for both those
- 2:16Speaker 4: guys and they leaned on him heavily, and he said,
- 2:20Speaker 4: you know, there are a lot of similarities to year
- 2:22Speaker 4: two and that they didn't need as much mentorship from him.
- 2:27Speaker 4: There's they both in year two started to kind of
- 2:30Speaker 4: find their way and I think be more confident in
- 2:33Speaker 4: themselves and not have to ask as many questions of him.
- 2:36Speaker 4: And I think we're seeing that from Kellimore. He seems
- 2:39Speaker 4: more comfortable with us in the media. Not that that's
- 2:43Speaker 4: the parameters that you know or the barometer I should say,
- 2:46Speaker 4: but he certainly feels more confident and I think that
- 2:49Speaker 4: will transfer to his team as well, because they had
- 2:52Speaker 4: questions as well, Matt. We all everyone did a year ago.
- 2:56Speaker 4: And I think I think that confidence from the head
- 2:58Speaker 4: coach is.
- 2:58Speaker 3: Important media part of the job.
- 3:00Speaker 1: I mean, an NFL head coach, it does matter how
- 3:02Speaker 1: you how you project and portray yourself that way.
- 3:05Speaker 3: I'm glad you went to what Loomis said today.
- 3:08Speaker 1: Did anything else from Mickey stand out today when when
- 3:10Speaker 1: you're sitting there in that pressure.
- 3:13Speaker 4: Yeah, I think I think he feels Mickey's always glass
- 3:16Speaker 4: half full guy. He's admitted that, but I do think
- 3:20Speaker 4: universally it look let me let me just preface this.
- 3:24Speaker 4: I mean, this is year twenty six. For me, this
- 3:26Speaker 4: is the time of the year when optimism rains. Right,
- 3:29Speaker 4: everybody's undefeated. We hear it all around the league. But
- 3:33Speaker 4: I do think genuinely there was a very positive vibe
- 3:36Speaker 4: around the team, and I don't think it was manufactured.
- 3:39Speaker 4: I think it's real. Now are they good enough? I
- 3:42Speaker 4: don't know, but I do think the culture that's been
- 3:45Speaker 4: established on airline drive from Kellen Moore and his staff.
- 3:49Speaker 4: I think it's important to note he's got a good staff,
- 3:52Speaker 4: that the players have bought in. Now they've got to
- 3:55Speaker 4: show progress. I mean they've got I think they've got
- 3:57Speaker 4: to win more games. That's the proof in the footing.
- 4:00Speaker 4: But so far, still good as far as buying in
- 4:03Speaker 4: from the roster, because there were a lot of veteran
- 4:05Speaker 4: guys here like am Jordan, Alvin Kamara, Chris Alave that
- 4:09Speaker 4: I'm sure we're waiting and wondering, and I think he's
- 4:12Speaker 4: got them on board.
- 4:14Speaker 1: He's Jeff Duncan Nola dot Com The Times picking you
- 4:16Speaker 1: that Jeff Duncan underscore if you want to give him
- 4:18Speaker 1: a follow, I'm asking just you your opinion here, not
- 4:22Speaker 1: what players say, because I know what players and coaches
- 4:24Speaker 1: are going to say. What do you think is the
- 4:26Speaker 1: is a realistic expectation for this team.
- 4:30Speaker 4: I think for them to be in the hunt in
- 4:33Speaker 4: December for either the division title or a wild coward
- 4:37Speaker 4: birth is very realistic, and I think it's a realistic expectation,
- 4:42Speaker 4: especially given the division itself. It's just not a very
- 4:46Speaker 4: He hasn't been a very competitive division the last few years.
- 4:50Speaker 4: The team's winning the division right around five hundred, sometimes
- 4:52Speaker 4: below five hundred. If this team isn't in December alive
- 4:57Speaker 4: for some kind of postseason birth, I think it's a
- 5:01Speaker 4: major disappointment. Barring, of course, a major injury. Look everything.
- 5:05Speaker 4: In my opinion, Matt relies on Tyler Shuck taking a step.
- 5:10Speaker 4: I think he's gotta become the guy this year. I
- 5:13Speaker 4: think they believe he will. All sounds point of that,
- 5:17Speaker 4: but make no mistake, I mean, this season rests on
- 5:20Speaker 4: his shoulders, in his right arm, and how he fares.
- 5:24Speaker 4: I think he's gonna tell us how the Saints fair.
- 5:27Speaker 3: How much better do you think the offense will be considering. Jeff.
- 5:30Speaker 1: Look, they made a big investment to give Tyler Shuck
- 5:34Speaker 1: the toys in the chest.
- 5:35Speaker 3: To go be good.
- 5:37Speaker 4: Yeah, and I think even more importantly, well I shouldn't
- 5:41Speaker 4: say more importantly, but as is important is it now
- 5:44Speaker 4: opens up the playbook for Kellen Moore. I mean, I
- 5:46Speaker 4: can tell you this talking to people in the building
- 5:49Speaker 4: a year ago. I think Kellen Moore felt He's never
- 5:52Speaker 4: gonna say this publicly. It's not how he rolls, but
- 5:54Speaker 4: he felt handcuffed. I think he felt handcuffed when Spencer
- 5:58Speaker 4: rattnervers a quarterback. Once Tyler Shuck got under there and
- 6:03Speaker 4: they saw the difference that he was waiting a tick
- 6:06Speaker 4: longer for those plays to open up, and they saw
- 6:09Speaker 4: some of the plays he was making, I think they said,
- 6:12Speaker 4: let's go all in on this kid, and they went
- 6:14Speaker 4: all in this afseason, gave him the toys, most of
- 6:17Speaker 4: the offensive line, and I think we're gonna see a
- 6:20Speaker 4: lot more versatility, multiplicity in this offense. Game plan, the
- 6:26Speaker 4: game plan week to week, it's going to be a
- 6:28Speaker 4: little bit different because he's got the athletes now at
- 6:32Speaker 4: the perimeter positions, at least more than they had a
- 6:35Speaker 4: year ago to kind of open this thing up.
- 6:37Speaker 1: Respect to Ronnie Bell and Samori Tore But I'll take
- 6:40Speaker 1: Jordan Tyson.
- 6:43Speaker 3: On the outside.
- 6:44Speaker 1: A couple of minutes here with Jeff Duncanola dot Com
- 6:46Speaker 1: The Times picking and you mentioned your twenty.
- 6:49Speaker 3: Six God, Jeff, you're so old.
- 6:51Speaker 1: I mean, just my goodness, twenty six years on this beat, right,
- 6:54Speaker 1: I mean, maybe.
- 6:56Speaker 4: Hey, maybe steel better today when louis sustaining this fortieth train,
- 7:00Speaker 4: he kept the person that thinks is older than me
- 7:03Speaker 4: in the building.
- 7:04Speaker 1: Uh, this will be my twentieth season covering LSU. It
- 7:07Speaker 1: goes into blank man, But is there when you go
- 7:09Speaker 1: out to camp? Like are you do you look for
- 7:12Speaker 1: position battles in camp?
- 7:14Speaker 3: Like? What what's interesting to you there?
- 7:17Speaker 4: Now? You know I'm a big I'm a big body
- 7:19Speaker 4: language guy and uh, you know kind of inner interpersonal
- 7:23Speaker 4: relations Like I like to see how how the players react.
- 7:26Speaker 4: I'll be watching Tyler shuck teamly to see if he
- 7:29Speaker 4: has really put this team, uh you know in his grip.
- 7:34Speaker 4: I mean Drew Brees was the master at it. Right.
- 7:36Speaker 4: We saw we got to see a first ballot Hall
- 7:38Speaker 4: of Fame or operate, So I know what it looks
- 7:40Speaker 4: like when you're the leader of the team. And I
- 7:42Speaker 4: think this team is wanting him, They're buying into him.
- 7:45Speaker 4: I talk to guys, you know this whole off season.
- 7:48Speaker 4: Uh you know that the little passing session he had
- 7:51Speaker 4: out in California that was big for a lot of players.
- 7:54Speaker 4: And I think they want him to be the dude.
- 7:57Speaker 4: And I want to see if he can transfer thet
- 8:00Speaker 4: to the practice field and in the meeting rooms because
- 8:03Speaker 4: these veteran guys are dying for someone to take control
- 8:06Speaker 4: of his team.
- 8:08Speaker 3: You know, it's interesting.
- 8:09Speaker 1: We've talked about the young guys and Tyler Shuck, but
- 8:11Speaker 1: the veterans have been such an interesting part of this offseason.
- 8:14Speaker 1: Cam and Alvin to Mario going to the Jets take
- 8:17Speaker 1: some obviously isn't going to be back. What about that dynamic, Jeff,
- 8:20Speaker 1: what are you expecting the veterans on this team, some
- 8:22Speaker 1: that are still lingering and some that are gone.
- 8:25Speaker 4: Well, I think it's gonna I'll tell you what. I
- 8:26Speaker 4: will be watching. And this is just a little instat
- 8:29Speaker 4: baseball thing for me, Matt, But I think it's important
- 8:32Speaker 4: who are going to be the team captain on this
- 8:34Speaker 4: group because you've lost some guys from stalwarts like you know,
- 8:39Speaker 4: to Mario, Davis Well Blake Groupy of course left in Austine.
- 8:43Speaker 4: But there's gonna be a change over, I think in
- 8:45Speaker 4: the leadership as we see this team transform from that
- 8:49Speaker 4: old guard we talked about Camp. Jordan's in his last year.
- 8:53Speaker 4: You know he's gonna be going out the door here.
- 8:56Speaker 4: And I just think we're gonna see some new faces
- 8:58Speaker 4: become team cap since maybe someone like Kayden Ellison from
- 9:03Speaker 4: you from out of town, maybe even a guy like
- 9:05Speaker 4: Chrys A. Lobby has never been a team captain, will
- 9:08Speaker 4: he be elected by his peers. Those things are important
- 9:11Speaker 4: in the locker room because there's been a certain number
- 9:14Speaker 4: of voices that have carried this team all the way
- 9:16Speaker 4: going all the way back to Breeze. It's been to Mario,
- 9:19Speaker 4: Cam Jordans h those are the guys that have led
- 9:22Speaker 4: this team. I think we're gonna see some new voices
- 9:24Speaker 4: everge and I think it's gonna be reflected and whose
- 9:27Speaker 4: voted team captains?
- 9:29Speaker 1: Since you get it cranked up on Wednesday there on
- 9:32Speaker 1: Airline Drive, he's Jeff Duncan Nola dot Com Times picking
- 9:34Speaker 1: you and at Jeff Duncan Underscore give a follow. We
- 9:37Speaker 1: always appreciate the time man, enjoy your twenty six.
- 9:41Speaker 4: Thank you, Matt. I'll see you down the road soon.
- 9:43Speaker 1: Brother, it's our pleasure.
