- 0:00Speaker 1: Back for player Interview number two on the Yukon Hockey
- 0:03Speaker 1: Coaches Show, and we feature Tray Scott, who scored his
- 0:06Speaker 1: first goal of the season on Saturday in the tie
- 0:10Speaker 1: against You Mass. He is from Lunenburg, Mass, which is
- 0:14Speaker 1: basically due north of Worcester. It's between Fittsburg and Leminster,
- 0:18Speaker 1: somewhere in that area, just north of Route Too and
- 0:21Speaker 1: Trey is with us and Trey. Before we get into
- 0:24Speaker 1: the wildness of Saturday night, let's let's focus it on
- 0:28Speaker 1: the goal that you scored, your first of the season.
- 0:30Speaker 1: Walk me through it, kind of what you saw and
- 0:32Speaker 1: what you're hoping when you put the puck on target.
- 0:36Speaker 2: Yeah, obviously maybe took a little longer than I was
- 0:40Speaker 2: hoping for the first one of the year. But this
- 0:44Speaker 2: week of practice we kind of implemented a new offensive
- 0:47Speaker 2: zone kind of strategy that that works well with a
- 0:50Speaker 2: lot of our defensemen. It allows us to stay aggressive
- 0:53Speaker 2: in the zone, walk the blue one a little more,
- 0:55Speaker 2: get some more shots than that, and luckily kind of
- 0:59Speaker 2: we had which you know, with the umascoli you're gonna
- 1:03Speaker 2: need a screen with the size of them, and kind
- 1:06Speaker 2: of how well he's been playing, and we were able
- 1:08Speaker 2: to get that and luckily it just went in tray.
- 1:11Speaker 1: As frustrating as the weekend was, the team generated a
- 1:15Speaker 1: ton of offense, but Michael Horable was certainly the difference,
- 1:18Speaker 1: with over eighty saves on the weekend fifty alone on Saturday.
- 1:23Speaker 1: How frustrating is that for a group as well as
- 1:25Speaker 1: you guys played, you don't have a whole lot to
- 1:27Speaker 1: show for it.
- 1:28Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean the results are definitely a little frustrating,
- 1:31Speaker 2: but you know, I feel like nothing really changed in
- 1:34Speaker 2: our locker room.
- 1:37Speaker 3: You know, we kind of took.
- 1:38Speaker 2: A step back and didn't look so much as at
- 1:41Speaker 2: the results as kind of like how we were playing.
- 1:44Speaker 2: We know, if we keep generating that much offense, they're
- 1:48Speaker 2: eventually going to go in and sometimes you run.
- 1:51Speaker 3: Into a hot goalie.
- 1:52Speaker 2: You know, that happens, And it just happened to be
- 1:55Speaker 2: that weekend for sure.
- 1:57Speaker 3: All Right.
- 1:58Speaker 1: Have you ever seen anything like what happen and in
- 2:00Speaker 1: overtime when the lights went crazy, suddenly get a two
- 2:03Speaker 1: on one with a chance to win, and suddenly the
- 2:05Speaker 1: whistle blows.
- 2:06Speaker 2: Yeah, no, that that was my first time seeing that.
- 2:09Speaker 2: Obviously a bit frustrating, but you know, that's kind of
- 2:13Speaker 2: how it goes sometimes can't control that and kind of
- 2:17Speaker 2: just move on, try to find a way to win,
- 2:18Speaker 2: and unfortunately it happened when it.
- 2:21Speaker 1: Did, right Trey, you batted a lot of injury in
- 2:24Speaker 1: the first semester of the season, kind of kept you
- 2:26Speaker 1: out for some time. I would imagine the end of
- 2:29Speaker 1: semester break could not have come at a better time
- 2:31Speaker 1: because since then it seems like you're healthy and obviously
- 2:35Speaker 1: more productive.
- 2:36Speaker 3: Yeah, I feel great now.
- 2:38Speaker 2: A couple of tough injuries, but I know, talking to
- 2:40Speaker 2: the trainers, if they were going to happen at any time,
- 2:43Speaker 2: I'm glad when they did. You know, I had the
- 2:46Speaker 2: Christmas break to kind of heal from it, which you know,
- 2:49Speaker 2: didn't let me miss too many games. But I'm back
- 2:54Speaker 2: healthy now, feeling good, ready to go.
- 2:56Speaker 1: Trey, last season as a freshman, you and kai Jan
- 2:59Speaker 1: Verie a certain he had outstanding seasons as freshman defensemen.
- 3:04Speaker 3: You even you know, didn't.
- 3:05Speaker 1: Start right away, but once you got in the lineup,
- 3:08Speaker 1: coach Kav couldn't pull you out, and then he gave
- 3:10Speaker 1: you the keys to car for power play and you've
- 3:12Speaker 1: been on that unit pretty much since then. What was
- 3:15Speaker 1: that like for you when he when he gave you
- 3:17Speaker 1: the keys to to run the power play on the
- 3:19Speaker 1: confidence level that must have given you.
- 3:21Speaker 2: Yeah, it gave me a ton of confidence for sure.
- 3:25Speaker 2: Grateful to get that opportunity, Grateful that they, you.
- 3:29Speaker 3: Know it, kind of trusted me with that.
- 3:31Speaker 2: And then I think more of it was the players
- 3:33Speaker 2: also on that unit giving me the confidence and just
- 3:36Speaker 2: letting me know, like hey, like you're on here for
- 3:38Speaker 2: a reason, like it's it's not really a mistake that
- 3:41Speaker 2: they put you on here, and just working with those
- 3:43Speaker 2: guys every day to kind of just keep up.
- 3:46Speaker 3: With that, right And the production has been good.
- 3:49Speaker 1: A goal and seven assists over his last eleven has
- 3:51Speaker 1: a three multi assist games.
- 3:54Speaker 3: There.
- 3:55Speaker 1: You've played with some outstanding players, but also outstanding defenseman.
- 3:58Speaker 1: Last year, John Spetz obviously was the leader of that group.
- 4:01Speaker 1: Now it's Thomas Cineo, but it's still relatively a young group.
- 4:06Speaker 1: What's it like, you know, learning from spetzia now Thomas
- 4:09Speaker 1: Cineo as far as what you're positioning is concerned.
- 4:11Speaker 3: Yeah, I've learned a bunch from both of them.
- 4:13Speaker 2: I mean, John Spetz was was huge for me last
- 4:16Speaker 2: year being a freshman. He's so knowledgeable, of the game.
- 4:19Speaker 2: Same with Massinio. They're both, you know, students of the game,
- 4:24Speaker 2: and they know a lot more than I did coming in.
- 4:28Speaker 2: So just being able to watch film with them, kind
- 4:31Speaker 2: of pick their brains a little have them pick mine
- 4:33Speaker 2: a little bit.
- 4:34Speaker 3: It's just good to bounce off each other.
- 4:36Speaker 1: Yeah, you've been paired up obviously. Let the defensive combinations
- 4:40Speaker 1: get mixed up during the season. Right now, you're with
- 4:42Speaker 1: Brendan Dumpy, big tall freshman. You got a couple of big,
- 4:46Speaker 1: linky defensemen. What's it like playing with Dumphy. I mean,
- 4:49Speaker 1: he seems like a little more defensive minded and you're
- 4:51Speaker 1: the offensive minded defenseman on that pairing.
- 4:54Speaker 3: Yeah, I think we work well together. You know.
- 4:57Speaker 2: I think we're good together off the ice, too, which
- 4:59Speaker 2: which helps we compliment each other. I think playing with him,
- 5:03Speaker 2: it's it's a little easier. Maybe we're on the same
- 5:05Speaker 2: page a little bit more, which makes it flow easier.
- 5:09Speaker 2: We don't have to I mean, we obviously do talk
- 5:12Speaker 2: out there, but most of the time it's it's kind
- 5:14Speaker 2: of just from practice, knowing our routes.
- 5:16Speaker 3: And knowing where each other is going to be. So
- 5:18Speaker 3: it's been good so far.
- 5:20Speaker 1: Trey, you played some of your junior hockey and Omaha,
- 5:22Speaker 1: Nebraska one of our stops on the Big East Tour
- 5:25Speaker 1: for both men's and women's basketball. It's a great city,
- 5:27Speaker 1: a lot of great steaks. What was your experience like
- 5:30Speaker 1: in Omaha?
- 5:31Speaker 3: Oh, it was awesome.
- 5:33Speaker 2: I mean, the life like outside of hockey was was awesome.
- 5:36Speaker 3: They have a ton of stuff to do.
- 5:37Speaker 2: They have, you know, the College Baseball World Series there,
- 5:40Speaker 2: which was awesome.
- 5:41Speaker 3: Did you no, I didn't. I was.
- 5:44Speaker 2: I didn't get up there fast enough for that. But
- 5:46Speaker 2: some of the guys went and they said it was
- 5:49Speaker 2: a great time. Some of the creating basketball games that
- 5:52Speaker 2: I caught a Yukon men's basketball overs creating game when
- 5:55Speaker 2: I was up there, that was That was awesome. But
- 5:58Speaker 2: I have all good things to say out about Omaha.
- 6:01Speaker 1: Yeah, why you Contrey? What gravitated you to stores Connecticut?
- 6:07Speaker 2: I really like the coaches, you know. I didn't have
- 6:10Speaker 2: a ton of a ton of offers or a ton
- 6:12Speaker 2: of looks, and they they kind of believed in me
- 6:15Speaker 2: and took a chance. And I wanted to play somewhere
- 6:18Speaker 2: close to home, so my family was able to catch
- 6:20Speaker 2: a ton of games. That was important to me and
- 6:23Speaker 2: kind of just talking to the coaches, they said all
- 6:26Speaker 2: the things that I believe in and and it just
- 6:29Speaker 2: seemed to work out.
- 6:30Speaker 1: Tray, There's two games left in the regular season. There's
- 6:33Speaker 1: still a lot to play for. Obviously, the biggest thing
- 6:36Speaker 1: is battling for potential NCAA birth where you don't have
- 6:40Speaker 1: to win Hockey East to get it done. What's been
- 6:43Speaker 1: the message from coach Cavin. What's the chemistry been like
- 6:46Speaker 1: with the team, trying to get things the ship righted
- 6:49Speaker 1: despite the fact that you're playing very well as a team.
- 6:51Speaker 2: Yeah, I think that's kind of the main message is
- 6:55Speaker 2: even though like the results the past two weekends haven't
- 6:57Speaker 2: been ideal, that we are still playing good hockey. And
- 7:01Speaker 2: a good message that Calv's been telling us and reminding
- 7:05Speaker 2: us is that two of the major trophies that we
- 7:07Speaker 2: want to win is obviously the Hockey East and a
- 7:10Speaker 2: national championship, and those two trophies are still in our
- 7:14Speaker 2: hands and we have full control over that. So you know,
- 7:17Speaker 2: these two games coming up at the end of the
- 7:19Speaker 2: season are two of our biggest ones of the year,
- 7:21Speaker 2: and we just kind of have to stick to our
- 7:23Speaker 2: process and stick to it.
- 7:25Speaker 3: Is making us good.
- 7:26Speaker 1: Trey, you Bruins guy. Of course, who was your favorite
- 7:30Speaker 1: player growing up as a kid.
- 7:32Speaker 3: I was a big Tory Crew guy.
- 7:35Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 7:35Speaker 2: I love the way he played, similar game style, similar size,
- 7:38Speaker 2: so I saw, I saw it was fitting to like him.
- 7:43Speaker 1: All right, old number forty seven. Trey, thanks you for
- 7:45Speaker 1: a few minutes of your time. Good luck this week.
- 7:47Speaker 3: Thank you. I appreciate it. All right.
- 7:49Speaker 1: That is Trey Scott. We'll come back and wrap things
- 7:51Speaker 1: up with Coach Cabin a minute. I'm a UCON Hockey
- 7:53Speaker 1: Coaches show here on Learfield.
- 7:54Speaker 3: Stay with us.
