- 2:04Man, we dailing this one. I practiced 2 months on the
- 2:08pronunciations tonight guys and it screwed me all up.

- 2:16Counts down at the Counts Family Pharmacy, your friendly
- 2:20neighborhood pharmacy Three O 1 S Main St. in Blacksburg.
- 2:24I was about to say Shelton Talley and Jonathan Moss.
- 2:28Adam screwed up everything at the beginning of this house.
- 2:30That's a good name. Amen.
- 2:33Jonathan Moss kind of hits that sounds like a wide receiver if I
- 2:37ever heard. You go Sheldon Moss.
- 2:39There you go. Sheldon Moss does sound like a
- 2:41wide receiver. Sheldon Tally sounds like a
- 2:43lineman. How's everybody doing tonight?
- 2:45Long time fellas. I think we're doing all right.
- 2:48I mean, we're hanging in there. Everybody should be good, man.
- 2:52You're about to start sensing football.
- 2:54We got football on TV next week. We do tomorrow.
- 2:57Tomorrow. Oh, it is tomorrow.
- 2:59Game is tomorrow. Tomorrow.
- 3:03Tally in the process of buying a house.
- 3:05Sheldon about to get started with some volleyball in a few
- 3:07weeks here. A lot of fun shit kids about to
- 3:11get back to school. Thank the Lord.
- 3:13Hey, and we're about, we're about starting right now until
- 3:19sometime in December, you're going to see us every week.
- 3:21Every week, every week we're going to be here and it's pretty
- 3:24awesome. Tonight we do have a very
- 3:26special guest. We're going to go ahead and
- 3:28bring him in. Defensive lineman, 4 year
- 3:31Virginia Tech cokies. Let's see if I got this right.
- 3:33James Jankum, bring him in. The Ginger Freak.
- 3:36In the flesh, baby Pronounce. It.
- 3:42Right, though, James Jankum, sometimes even I messed it up.
- 3:45I'm saying dejunko. Which, hey, whichever way you
- 3:47want to say. Just as long as you say, yeah, I
- 3:49mean, James, like the junk man like.
- 3:52The junk. Man, I like the.
- 3:54Like that I. Like, I know I've been going off
- 3:56in the game with him. I'm just go ahead and say.
- 3:58That that's right. I know with the official
- 4:01pronunciation you got you got your name, but she also got
- 4:03James thrown in. Ginger.
- 4:04Oh yeah, without a doubt. That's that's my second name.
- 4:07All right, all right. There we go.
- 4:10How you doing this evening, man? You sitting there?
- 4:11It looked like you were grubbing on some sushi.
- 4:13Was that sushi? Yesterday.
- 4:14Oh no, we actually see this is This is why I love Virginia
- 4:16tank. They got us with some nice
- 4:18boneless chicken wings right here there we go We got given
- 4:21the 24 pack like like you only get fed like this at P4 schools.
- 4:30I mean, I don't know. Man, hey, so so we're on the
- 4:33the. Like.
- 4:35Eve of camp right now, like everything.
- 4:37Everything's about to get going all right.
- 4:40Are you going to be able to sleep after this?
- 4:41I won't, but just knowing that tomorrow we start camp and we're
- 4:4830 days away from the first game, I cannot wait.
- 4:50I really can't. But I'm just more focused on
- 4:53getting better every single day through camp because there's
- 4:56still a lot of stuff I got to learn to get better at.
- 4:58So I'm really just, I'm excited for that process and that grind.
- 5:01Has it always been? Has it always been like that for
- 5:03you? Like the day before, can't
- 5:05weather high school or college like just wired.
- 5:09Like I like I'll be going, I'll be going to sleep watching Ray
- 5:12Lewis or James Harrison's Football for Life.
- 5:16And just like getting so pumped up and just like I can't wait to
- 5:18do that. I can't wait to have my own
- 5:20football for like documentary or my own my own 30 for 30.
- 5:24But it's just, it's really just the excitement of it's football
- 5:2824/7. Yeah.
- 5:30I mean, that's the part that I love the most because I love
- 5:32this game. Like I, I never get burnt out,
- 5:34never get tired. Like it's nice having everybody
- 5:37on the team kind of like we're all in the same cup of time now.
- 5:40So it's it's late. Jay, can you remember them as
- 5:43your teammates please? Do not hurt nobody on that
- 5:45offense. We we meet everybody that's on
- 5:49the six. Hey, I'm saying that's all I can
- 5:53say. If I get hurt, I get hurt.
- 5:56They get hurt, they get hurt. But we don't go out during
- 5:58practice, that's for sure. Hey, that's football right
- 6:00there, man. Hey, you got you got to love
- 6:02that mentality, though. But I know you, this is your
- 6:04first, this is your first camp at Virginia Tech.
- 6:07I know you've been through some through some fall camp so far,
- 6:11though. So when you're going through
- 6:13that camp, is there a certain time where your body just kind
- 6:16of gets used to the to the banging around and the hitting
- 6:19after you've been through camp? It's about halfway through Week
- 6:232 because you know, I mean that first week is just helmets and
- 6:25shells. I mean really just helmets for
- 6:27the first two days. Then the third day we finally
- 6:30get shoulder pads, we get to hit him and then we don't really get
- 6:33a hit till like I guess we don't get to go live from my past
- 6:38experience, like the second week.
- 6:39So it's really like after that second week, after that live
- 6:42practice, like 2 days after that live practice when it's like,
- 6:44all right, we went live. We've been go live for a damn
- 6:48near 2O2 days. Do you still have that same
- 6:49intensity? I always got it.
- 6:52That chip on my shoulder never, never falls off.
- 6:54That's. What's up?
- 6:56Yeah. So James, let's let's talk a
- 6:58little bit about your journey for people who may not know you
- 7:00as well. Just start out you're, you're a
- 7:02Virginia kid from Springfield. You, you hit up Independence
- 7:06Community College out in Kansas to get your start.
- 7:08And then you transfer to Arizona State where he spent a couple
- 7:10years, got some decent playing time over there.
- 7:13And then you go to Eastern Michigan where, for those who
- 7:15don't know, he was not only the highest graded linebacker or
- 7:18highest grade defensive player on the Eastern Michigan squad
- 7:20last year, but the 19th highest graded linebacker in the
- 7:23country. Even though you've played a
- 7:24little bit a defensive line as well.
- 7:25We'll talk about that in a little bit because you're
- 7:27obviously a very versatile player.
- 7:29But all these different schools, different places.
- 7:31Tell us about your journey and what do you think you've learned
- 7:33about yourself along the way? I mean, one thing I learned by
- 7:37myself is that I'm resilient. Like there's nothing that can
- 7:41that can be in front of me that can stop me because I don't had
- 7:45some injuries that people would have just packed it in and say,
- 7:48you know what, I'm just going to go work a nine to five.
- 7:51And I've had situations where it's like, Dang, I don't think I
- 7:53can make it out of this. Like even before I went to
- 7:55Independence Community College, I went to the school, I went to
- 7:59a private school my senior year, what called Avalon.
- 8:02And that was an hour and 45 minute metro ride there and
- 8:05back. And not to mention even after
- 8:08games, nobody lived in my area. So I had to take the metro home
- 8:11after games. You know, I mean, hurt, bruised
- 8:15ankle, messed up turf toe walking on the metro, my
- 8:18shoulder pads in gear just to go home.
- 8:21So it's like it was that was that situation that really
- 8:24showed me that like if I went through that, I can go through
- 8:27anything like injury on the way is not going to stop me from
- 8:30getting to the league and becoming a Hall of Famer.
- 8:32So it was really that it was that that semester that really
- 8:37taught me like anything that I face I can overcome.
- 8:39Like I didn't, I didn't started that little the legit bottom and
- 8:43crawled my way up to get to get to where I'm at right now.
- 8:46Yeah, I know we talked about this a little off offline, but
- 8:48like stuff like that, like that part of your journey that that
- 8:52that shows and and you learn real quick how much you love
- 8:55football or whether you don't love football, right?
- 8:57Like if you're when you're going through that type of thing, you
- 8:59learn very quickly. I love this game enough to to to
- 9:03give it the blood and give it the time and give it all that
- 9:06effort. Yeah, that's facts.
- 9:08And that's without a doubt I do because I've seen so many people
- 9:12from my high schools to especially junior college where
- 9:16it's like you see so many talented people who just don't
- 9:20have the, the correct mindset or the necessary mindset, you know
- 9:24what I mean? And it's just like, it's, it's
- 9:25that mindset of, oh, I'm already good enough when you're really
- 9:30not him yet, you know what I mean?
- 9:31And that's why that's something I've never had.
- 9:33Like I've always felt like when I went to JUCO, I knew this, I
- 9:36noticed that because it was during 2020 COVID and all that.
- 9:39We're having Zoom meetings and I'm looking at Zoom meeting.
- 9:42I see one kid is committed to Auburn and then another kid
- 9:45who's Kentucky bounced back and I'm fighting for a spot to try
- 9:48to get between either that mic or that will spot to try to get
- 9:51in. So it's like even before I went
- 9:53to junior college, I was already like, I got to become a
- 9:56different animal, you know what I mean?
- 9:57For me to even see the field or me to even be a 2 like these
- 10:00people are power 5 level players that I have to become to even
- 10:05compete with them and beat them out of a spot.
- 10:07So it was like even before I went JUCO I was in my backyard
- 10:11grinding, lifting weights, going to the field behind my house and
- 10:14running my ass off like it was. It's so much dedication that I
- 10:18put into this game that I I can't wait for it to auto
- 10:20confirmation this season. Man, that that's, that's
- 10:24unbelievable because you talk about your journey, you talk
- 10:27about injuries and you talk about going JUCO, you talk about
- 10:32you went to Arizona State. And correct me if I'm wrong,
- 10:35that's when Herm was coached. You got recruited by his staff
- 10:38back in 2020. Yeah, I got recruited by Marvin
- 10:42Lewis and also originally they recruited me for a linebacker.
- 10:48Linebacker. Yep.
- 10:49And then midway through the season, after unfortunately Herm
- 10:54got fired, Coach Oguano was like, I mean, we we had a
- 10:59conversation. I didn't know if I was going to
- 11:01red shirt or not. And we decided it's best that we
- 11:04have some injuries at defensive end or edge and we're like,
- 11:06look, we could really use you at that spot.
- 11:08You'll get a lot more playing time.
- 11:10And I was like, look, you know what, if I can, if it's best for
- 11:13the team, let's do it. So I got about 7 or 8 games at
- 11:18defensive end my first year at Arizona State.
- 11:22And there's the play. We're going to show a picture in
- 11:24a little while. There's a play you made against
- 11:25Cal. I wish Brian could have snipped
- 11:27it. It was in your Eastern mission
- 11:28commitment, I guess the signing day for Eastern Michigan where
- 11:32you you laid somebody else. But I I can't take that away
- 11:34from Tally. I guess the other thing I want
- 11:36to ask before I jump to my next question is, oh, oh, no.
- 11:40Did we lose you? Oh, shit.
- 11:45We were rolling you there, man, James.
- 11:48On in a minute. What happened?
- 11:51He's back. Andy's back, Andy's off.
- 11:55Andy's back. Can you hear us?
- 11:56Yeah, let me turn. Let me turn my phone off.
- 11:58Do not disturb. All right.
- 12:03My fault, guys. You're.
- 12:03Blowing up. You're blowing up.
- 12:04Hey, you know what? Somebody said we see you on TV
- 12:07right now. Like hey, shout me out.
- 12:13We anybody you want to shout or anything you need to shout out,
- 12:16we'll we'll give you a piece here as we wrap it up.
- 12:18But here's my thing, you have went so you had your you
- 12:22coaching staff, you had the Herm coaching staff, the Dillingham
- 12:25coaching staff. When you you have been through a
- 12:29bunch of coaches and you know, obviously we've got ours now,
- 12:32but I want to talk about our guys in just a second.
- 12:34But who have those guys made like an impression on you?
- 12:37Like who like Marvin Lewis coached in the NFL for years.
- 12:40Herm coached like Marvin Lewis was since named for like a
- 12:43decade. Like any of those that they
- 12:45instill or do something new as part of that journey that really
- 12:48has stuck with you. The one thing that Marvel Lewis
- 12:51did, he gave me confidence that I did not have like I like.
- 12:56And it's not I'm a cocky guy when I'm on the field because my
- 13:00preparation, that gives me confidence.
- 13:02But my first. They hit him up again.
- 13:07Hit. Him up again.
- 13:13We are live people. That's what happened when you
- 13:16are live. Yeah, I don't know why they keep
- 13:19calling me man, but what he said it was, I think like a couple
- 13:27weeks after fall camp, he was like, look, man, I'm I'm proud
- 13:29of you. Like you're everything that we
- 13:31thought you was going to be. And the one thing I would say is
- 13:34that, son, once you once you learn how to use your hands and
- 13:37really defeat these blocks and all that, there's no doubt in my
- 13:40mind that you could be a draft pick one day.
- 13:42And like, he probably didn't understand how impactful that
- 13:45was. Like for me to hear that, but it
- 13:47seems like I'm like Marvin freaking Lewis just said I could
- 13:50be a draft pick one day if I just learn how to use my hands.
- 13:55So from that, moving on, I'm watching.
- 13:57Yeah. I mean, Des Walker pass rush
- 14:00videos, all that trying to get right.
- 14:03And it, it, it helped me because now I have like, I was that
- 14:06linebacker and I was still able to play the edge because I still
- 14:08had that mentality of like having that good hands and all
- 14:12that good footwork. So it was really like Marvin
- 14:15Lewis gave me that confidence to know that, look, you worked
- 14:17hard. I see your your hard work but
- 14:19you still got to improve your game to be a draft pick.
- 14:23I love hearing that, man. Let's talk about your current
- 14:25coach. Let's talk about current
- 14:27defensive coordinator, Coach Cefkis.
- 14:29We're all kind of getting to know him.
- 14:31You know, he got hired about the same time you came in.
- 14:34You know, we've we've obviously done the backgrounds.
- 14:36Everybody knows time at Wofford, time in the NFL.
- 14:40But when y'all are in practice or maybe in a meeting room or,
- 14:43you know, doing something on the grease board, is there a
- 14:46telltale sign like whether it's you or the whole unit or
- 14:50somebody else where you know, you just had a really good Rep
- 14:53or you just impressed him? Does he do anything?
- 14:55Because obviously your guys are young men, like you said, that
- 14:59confidence. Is there anything he says or
- 15:01does that you know, I did it right, Coach.
- 15:04Like what coach keep just reminds me of is kind of like a
- 15:07like a Bill Belichick type of coach.
- 15:09He's not going to show too much emotion.
- 15:11But when you do some good, she's going, Hey, Ginge, he will he
- 15:15will DAP you up just like keep it low key.
- 15:16But it's still like, oh shit, I got a sack of Kyron Jones coach
- 15:20coming over. You DAP me.
- 15:21I'm like, all right, that I did some good shit.
- 15:22OK, bet. But like one thing about Coach
- 15:25Keed is that he's a leader of men like in our locker room,
- 15:29like what I said earlier about iron sharpens iron I got I
- 15:32literally just got that from him.
- 15:34Like the meeting we was just and he said, look, we want to keep
- 15:37everybody on on this team safe. But at the end of the day, we're
- 15:40not going to do no brother-in-law shit when it's in
- 15:42between the lines. We're going to attack.
- 15:45Yeah. Oh shit, let's get it.
- 15:50That's the sound bite right there, lady.
- 15:52That is the sound. Bite right there with that.
- 15:55Put that, put it on all the social for the rest of.
- 15:59The week right there. I love defense.
- 16:01It's like even when he was coming in with the Arizona
- 16:03defense, like couple guys were a little bit worried.
- 16:07I was, I was a little bit worried too, because I'm like,
- 16:09OK, I've played linebacker, I've played defensive end, you know
- 16:13what I mean? What do I fit in this game?
- 16:15You want me at linebacker? I can play inside.
- 16:17You want me at edge, I can play edge.
- 16:18You want me AD line, I can play D line.
- 16:21Like so we just like we had that conversation and it was like,
- 16:24really, we're going to use you where we feel like you could be
- 16:27most productive. And I I started like in spring
- 16:30ball. I'm not sure you guys know, but
- 16:31I started at outside linebacker and then they're like, look,
- 16:35you're a big guy. We need some depth at edge or at
- 16:38end. So they moved me the end and
- 16:40from there I just took off like from there.
- 16:43It's like it was, it was less thinking than outside linebacker
- 16:46and especially inside linebacker and it was just like, it's
- 16:49really just drop your nuts and don't let the don't let the guy
- 16:54in front of you beat you. So.
- 16:58Whoop his ass everybody. So James, I mean you, I don't
- 17:02know no other way you can say it than the way you said it.
- 17:05But the question I was going to ask did you kind of answer was
- 17:09you've you've shown a lot of versatility just in your play
- 17:12from what we've seen watching film and stuff.
- 17:15But what like what skill in your two set makes you like so
- 17:19versatile? Definitely my work ethic because
- 17:26it's it's just something that I've never been the fastest,
- 17:28strongest, biggest or even smartest.
- 17:31Like I've just had that grind where I'm going to rewrite the
- 17:35same play down until 3:00 in the morning until I get it
- 17:38instinctively. And then once I get it, I'm
- 17:39going to write it down again. Because if I know this play,
- 17:42like if I know this playbook like the back of my hand, then I
- 17:45can start playing within the playbook.
- 17:47Like if I know I got, let's say, if I have a stunt on the
- 17:51offensive tackle and I know that maybe a safety is coming to
- 17:54blitz. All right, bet that he's coming
- 17:55from death, so I can get a little bit more width, get in
- 17:58his face a little bit, then redirect and get in my get in my
- 18:00gap. So it's just it's just knowing
- 18:03like who's blitzing, what's happening within the play, not
- 18:06just, oh, I'm in this gap. I got to go to this gap.
- 18:09You know, I mean, it's just it's knowing the whole the defense as
- 18:11a whole. And that's why that's where I
- 18:13dominate because like I played linebacker.
- 18:16I know all the coverages that's going on behind me.
- 18:18Like I know in cover 2 that shit, I might have some help
- 18:21from the safety if he's covered in the flat.
- 18:22So boom, if I really want to and I know that it's not 2 by two
- 18:25and it's 3 by 1 in the receiver's pod, I could run like
- 18:28a quick go route. I might have that safety for or
- 18:30that corner for help, so I can probably take an inside move,
- 18:33let the quarterback like little stuff like that, that I feel
- 18:37like my knowledge can help me make more plays or take take
- 18:42smarter risks. That's what.
- 18:44I'd say, yeah, it's that whole, you've been at two different
- 18:46levels, right? Like you haven't been at the
- 18:48back end, but you've been on the you've been in the linebacker
- 18:50room, you've been in the defensive end or defensive line
- 18:53in general. Don't.
- 18:54Say that, don't say that. One hey, it's.
- 18:57Spring ask Ask Coach Martin in spring.
- 19:00What was it? Yeah, beginning of spring in
- 19:032022. I was with the DBS because.
- 19:05I was like I. Don't even know how to cover.
- 19:07I need my, I need my DB pedigree.
- 19:09There we go. First two weeks I was with the
- 19:10DBS, working on my back pedal, all that.
- 19:13Well, I had to know because like so everything I've read like
- 19:16early on in your career, like you were heavy a special teams.
- 19:18I was like, ain't no way that he played that much special teams
- 19:20that hadn't seen some degree of, of that coverage element and
- 19:24aspect of it as well. Because I mean, usually anybody
- 19:27that's that's, that's got that specialties pedigree that's
- 19:30actually getting called out for their specialties work has that
- 19:33versatility and that ability to, to kind of play in coverage and,
- 19:36and kind of understand those concepts.
- 19:38I was able to, but it obviously like it's, but it was my
- 19:43specialty like special teams. I loved it because it's
- 19:46somewhere I knew I could dump, like kick off.
- 19:49It's probably my favorite play of the game.
- 19:51I'm talking to Coach Moore right now.
- 19:52I'm begging. I'm like, look, let me be the
- 19:53L5. I know I gained a little bit of
- 19:55weight, you know, I mean, I ain't running 21 mph right now,
- 19:58but hey, I'll still get down there.
- 20:02It's like that's fine. That's my favorite play.
- 20:04Like they got to block you like they can't, they can't cut you.
- 20:07Like you got to be a head on, head on block.
- 20:09And if you want to double team, you bet.
- 20:11I'll run through both of them like.
- 20:14I know I'm gonna get some contact and I and I might get to
- 20:17take somebody's head off so and. That's just like that's the
- 20:20biggest tone setter. Like even if the ball goes out
- 20:24of bounds, you knock them. I mean, you knock somebody on
- 20:25their ass. Like that shows the other team.
- 20:28Oh, oh, they came to play. It's like that one play.
- 20:32UNC versus Appalachian. I think like like I forgot the
- 20:36school was called Appalachian. App state.
- 20:39Yeah, App State they did like a little onside kick to them.
- 20:43And then I just remember the USC just charged them on the on the
- 20:47kickoff return. I'm like, I've never seen that
- 20:49for a kickoff return team. But that was hard because that
- 20:51set the tone. But yeah, it was just like for
- 20:54me playing special teams, hands down creating my identity of I'm
- 21:00I'm selfless, like I'll do anything for the team.
- 21:02Like literally what my search says, it's it's team over me.
- 21:05And I mean, whatever I can do to contribute to the team, I'm
- 21:06going to get it done. Well, man, you're 64.
- 21:09You got a pretty long wingspan. I think they can sneak up in
- 21:11there and you can get up for one this year, take away some points
- 21:14off the board. I mean, that's 63, but yeah,
- 21:17man, I ain't going to take it away, you know?
- 21:20What I mean, what's your wingspan 879?
- 21:22I wish I knew I like they test yourself with that, but it ain't
- 21:26something I really. You pay, you know I like that.
- 21:28I like that. Don't pay attention to that,
- 21:30right? Like, who cares if I don't go
- 21:32out there and dominate and kick somebody's ass in front of me?
- 21:35None of that special bullshit, man.
- 21:38No, I love it man. That's why it's even like the
- 21:40combine. I'm like, look, just run the
- 21:43tape. Like, yeah, I mean, they don't
- 21:45like it. Don't matter if I could run like
- 21:47a four, three, you know what I mean?
- 21:50Who knows? But it don't matter if I could
- 21:52jump 11 yards. It matters about OK, are you
- 21:54willing to run through a motherfucker face?
- 21:55I mean somebody's face like. You, you, you are OK.
- 21:59I just want to say this right quick, Curtis.
- 22:01I just want to chat. James is the kind of person that
- 22:06will make people quit football. Real quick.
- 22:09Oh. No, to play football, we'll talk
- 22:10about you play against somebody like that.
- 22:13I didn't seen it like people like that.
- 22:15You talking about playing, talking about going on kickoff
- 22:18and running through two people. Do you understand how crazy you
- 22:21got to be to want to be on kickoff and run through somebody
- 22:25that is like a car crash? That's a car crash, man.
- 22:28Oh, yeah. I'd have been in the wedges,
- 22:31man. I'd have been talking about
- 22:33playing tight end, being in a wedge, and you got to look at
- 22:35somebody running at you 21 miles an hour and 19 miles an hour,
- 22:40and you got to take that on now. I'm good.
- 22:42We actually go. Let me go play the game.
- 22:45We called ourselves the Crash Out crew.
- 22:48We was all on kick off. I'm talking about you got 5-6
- 22:51guys screaming as they're running down the field looking
- 22:55for some blood. Like we just, we don't care.
- 22:57We want to see who's the biggest crash out of the six of us.
- 23:00That's why that's my dogs. Man, that's that's football
- 23:04though man, that's it's so refreshing to just see I know
- 23:07you I'm not calling you a kid, just a young man like yourself.
- 23:11It's got a bright future. It's so refreshing to see like
- 23:15you love the game. You know what I'm saying?
- 23:16And you keep that with you, bro. Like the, the, the Sky's the
- 23:20limit. You can go wherever you want to
- 23:21go. You know what I'm saying?
- 23:22Playing after playing coaching, just doing whatever you want to
- 23:26do. Because you can tell just
- 23:28talking to you for it's 23 minutes that we've been talking
- 23:31to you that you love the game of football and that's why you're
- 23:34so scared at it. So keep going.
- 23:37Keep going. What we got next, Sheldon?
- 23:39You got one for him? Yeah, let's talk a little bit
- 23:42more about coach seekers. Obviously we're in the outside,
- 23:44so we don't really know, you know, his personality as well
- 23:47because he seems very, you know, serious And I know he's very
- 23:50analytical and and process oriented.
- 23:52But does does Coach Stevkis ever, you know, say something
- 23:55that makes you laugh or joke around or are there any other
- 23:57defense coaches that kind of keep it light hearted in the
- 23:59room? Cheetah, he keeps it light
- 24:01hearted without a doubt. He can make it some funny jokes,
- 24:04but like like Coach Stevens, like he'll like throw a spring
- 24:08ball, he'll go around. We have like 5 minutes to shoot
- 24:10the shit. He'll be like, all right,
- 24:12anybody got a joke? I'll raise my hand because I'm
- 24:16the only one with a joke. Yeah, I mean, I'll.
- 24:20Be like like he's like. I need y'all to entertain.
- 24:22Tell me a joke. Right now.
- 24:25I need. I need a.
- 24:26Funny joke right now, but it's like.
- 24:29It's OK. Can I say it on the podcast?
- 24:31Yeah, this is this is our rated man.
- 24:34Let's this is our. Here, an adult podcast.
- 24:37Everybody knows that. So damn, boom, there's this MOB
- 24:40player that just won the lottery, right?
- 24:42Great guy, you know, I mean, amazing dude, Christian, all
- 24:44that, man, man, man of God. So then boom, he goes up to the
- 24:48umpire. He's like, yeah, man, like I
- 24:49just won the lottery. But, you know, I make all this
- 24:51money from the MLBI decided to be best for me to give it away.
- 24:55So he's like, oh, the empire's like, oh, that's great of you,
- 24:57man. Like, I'm really proud of you.
- 24:58That's something great. He's like, yeah.
- 25:00So the other night I decided to give it all away to charity.
- 25:03And he's like, really to charity.
- 25:05Oh, wow. What charity?
- 25:07He's like, yeah, but Charity wasn't there.
- 25:09So I asked Star and I gave it all to her.
- 25:15Yeah. So like.
- 25:16I said it in the room and it just went over half the people's
- 25:20head. Except, like, I ain't the woo.
- 25:25Because don't get wrong like we we still a young team, you know
- 25:28what I mean? Yeah, I was just.
- 25:29So you got some people that just came out of high school in that
- 25:31room which they didn't know. No.
- 25:32What are you talking about? Crystal Star, who are they?
- 25:38But yes, one of the little jokes I'll be having.
- 25:41That's a good one. Man, I'm glad we got to hear the
- 25:46joke. Like I, I, I, it's always funny
- 25:49to me, like seeing like how different personalities interact
- 25:51in the locker room. And I feel like, you know,
- 25:53everything I'm hearing is like, I feel like we got, we got a
- 25:57good kind of blend of, of, of different guys in that, in that
- 26:01locker room And, and, and now on the, on the coaching staff as
- 26:03well. Like you got, you got JC Price.
- 26:05Let's talk about JCA little bit, because I know, I know you've
- 26:08had, you know, some time with him.
- 26:10When I say that name, what's that mean to you?
- 26:13It's time to work his business, JC prices business.
- 26:18Like he, he's the, he's a Virginia Tech defensive line,
- 26:22you know what I mean? Model like he done, he done been
- 26:24there. He done done that.
- 26:26He had his time. Now he's like, look, I'm here to
- 26:28coach y'all. It's y'all's time now.
- 26:30I hadn't been there, I'd have done that.
- 26:31Now it's fine Time for y'all to do it and and do it kind of
- 26:34thing. But yeah, he's a, he's a great
- 26:37coach. And the one thing I love about
- 26:38him the most is that you don't sugarcoat shit like he today he
- 26:42told everybody he like, look, there ain't no starters all
- 26:46y'all have to work for your spot.
- 26:48So like right now I don't know if I'm a starter, but every
- 26:52single day during camp I'm going to work my ass off to become
- 26:54one. It's solidify that spot because
- 26:56we got in and we got some great transfers.
- 26:58Like every Divas alignment that we brought in can start and
- 27:02probably and definitely will start.
- 27:04Like you got Manny, you got Cody Allies, like we got so many new
- 27:10transfers that like to me, I'm just like, hey coach, you did
- 27:13your thing. Like you, a coach that goes in
- 27:15the port and you get the best out of the best.
- 27:17And he went double gingers on the edges.
- 27:20Oh yeah, me and they you gang like oh, I can't wait for that.
- 27:27We already celebrations. Oh man, sack celebration with
- 27:32two gingers. Can't wait to y'all meet at a
- 27:33quarterback and it when this happens.
- 27:36It's not if, it's when it's. Got to move my phone, got more
- 27:41sand. If it died, my fault y'all.
- 27:43It's a bit more prepared. All good, man.
- 27:47Dude, you, you, you. A day before camp.
- 27:49It's amazing you're on here with us right now.
- 27:51That's right. That's right.
- 27:52So, but that is that is JC. We've had a chance to talk to
- 27:55JCA couple times. I mean, if y'all for those out
- 27:59there, maybe new listeners or whatnot, we interviewed JC last
- 28:03all season and he was right man JC don't sugarcoat shit.
- 28:10He was in. I mean that interview we had
- 28:12with him was crazy. So we're going to let James get
- 28:15sorted out here for a couple seconds.
- 28:18But. I wasn't something going around
- 28:19social media that said all genders are black.
- 28:23What? Yeah, that was on that's that's
- 28:26been going around social media that gingers are black people.
- 28:32All genders. Are black people.
- 28:34I'm just telling you man, that's what I've been hearing on
- 28:36Facebook. So your problem.
- 28:40Is being on Facebook. Ben Bell Ben Bell is Black Ben.
- 28:45Bell is black. Ben Bell is black.
- 28:47Sheldon, you need to go look that up, man.
- 28:49That's real. I think you got red hair too,
- 28:52Sheldon. You got some.
- 28:55You got some red hair somewhere. Look like it.
- 28:57I don't know. I'm.
- 28:58I'm pulling this up here. We're going to get him back in
- 29:00just a moment here all. Right.
- 29:01Curtis is efforting this via Google.
- 29:05Now I'm going to Twitter. Twitter's truthful, right?
- 29:07Twitter's don't ever lie about anything.
- 29:10It ain't even called Twitter no more.
- 29:11Sheldon going to get on you about that.
- 29:13It's called X. I'm never calling it X.
- 29:17I'm never calling. I'm never.
- 29:18Calling it X. I'm seeing some.
- 29:20I'm seeing some tik toks on here.
- 29:23I'm telling you, man, that's what they've been saying for
- 29:24like the last month. I don't know why they came up
- 29:27with it, but it's out there. I.
- 29:30Mean you say anything. I mean it is a trend on TikTok.
- 29:34See. Y'all thought I was?
- 29:35She thought I was crazy because I'm an old man on Facebook.
- 29:38According to the Internet. According to the Internet, oh
- 29:42man. Hey, why are we?
- 29:44Why are we waiting? I know we're getting back in.
- 29:47Can we put this picture up? Can we put the picture up right
- 29:49quick? Picture up right now.
- 29:51Let me picture Brian while we're waiting.
- 29:53Man, look at this. Look.
- 29:55At this picture, man, I need that people to understand what's
- 30:00going on. I know that's kind of cropped so
- 30:03you can't see it. That is 1 human being picking
- 30:07another human being up and suplexing it and smiling.
- 30:13Oh yeah, yeah, it's our favorite photo.
- 30:16Oh, there you go, he's back. He's back, right?
- 30:18You were getting into. It I was I was telling, I was
- 30:20telling the chat if they didn't understand what was going on,
- 30:23but that's a human being picking up another human being and
- 30:26suflexing it and y'all and while doing it Well, what I mean is
- 30:31this how you feel when you playing football?
- 30:33Is this the this the energy you have while pulling?
- 30:36Every every single play, because in that moment I'm like, Oh,
- 30:40y'all finna slam his ass like Oh be the best feeling.
- 30:45That's why like that. And when I'm what's called when
- 30:49it's face to face and I scoop them under the legs, I slam on
- 30:52their back. Those are my two favorite
- 30:53tackles because it's the most like damn, I just got bitch type
- 30:57of tackle like like damn, he really just did that to me.
- 31:00Like it's, it's demeaning as a man and I love that shit.
- 31:03Like. And and The thing is, this type
- 31:05tackle, there's video. You've done this multiple times,
- 31:08man. And, and, and, and I'm like, I'm
- 31:11sure it's the pleasure going through your head when you know
- 31:14I got you. You ain't going anywhere.
- 31:16You have to fucking feel it. And you know, their point of
- 31:20view is, is helplessness. It's just like whenever he
- 31:23decides to let me go, it going to hurt.
- 31:26I'm hoping I can hold on to the ball.
- 31:28The best part is when it's like a running back and they think
- 31:30they got got you going downhill and all of a sudden you stop
- 31:33that momentum and then pull them back and then just go over the
- 31:36top with it. Just blah.
- 31:39Now I'm going to ask, I think this is an obvious question.
- 31:44I am assuming when you slam somebody's asses down, they hear
- 31:48about it, they know about it. Oh yeah, I talk that shit
- 31:51without a doubt. Got to like what?
- 31:55You going to feel me and you going to hear me?
- 31:56You got to let them know. Play like.
- 31:58You got to let them know. Because like if you, a
- 32:00linebacker, like your team around you feed off your energy.
- 32:04It's like being a quarterback, you know, I mean, like what you
- 32:08do affects the team around you. So if you have a great ass hit,
- 32:10oh shit that was going to be like Oh yeah, bet that they soft
- 32:13as fuck. Let's get it.
- 32:14Like it's just that's who I was. I was the tone setter on my
- 32:17team. I was the man.
- 32:19They ain't shit bro, let's go. You got to break their will a
- 32:22little bit. You got, you got to let them
- 32:23know that it's it's not going to happen.
- 32:26You got to break their will and let them know that it's not
- 32:30their day-to-day. It's not going to be their
- 32:32day-to-day. Now, I know it's probably nobody
- 32:34else in the world like UJ, but being in on a football team and
- 32:40you've been here for a little bit now, have you found somebody
- 32:43kind of in that Bash Brother role that you kind of feed off
- 32:45of on your defense yet? Oh yeah?
- 32:47Hell yeah. Burgos.
- 32:48What? Keyshawn burgos #2 like that
- 32:54dude is a crash out. The definition of the word.
- 32:59I love him though, like he's somebody that you know that no
- 33:02matter what shit. We in the alley, we at the bar,
- 33:05he got my back. We on the field on kickoff.
- 33:07Oh yeah, I already know. I ain't worried.
- 33:08But he he going to make that play if I don't.
- 33:11That's what's up, That's what you got to have, man.
- 33:14That's what's the difference in having a Oh yeah, that.
- 33:17Eight wins, Caleb wins #20 yeah. That's that's Tally's boy,
- 33:23that's. He be crashing out.
- 33:25I love, I love watching the play.
- 33:27Man, we're so excited to see y'all just you know, get started
- 33:30to doing what y'all love to do. Man.
- 33:33It's like I said, us as fans, we we sitting back rooting for you
- 33:37at the games, rooting for you, but for you to come on first of
- 33:41all, we appreciate you, but also just with the energy, man, you
- 33:43could tell that this is no fabrication.
- 33:46You know what I'm saying? No extra nothing.
- 33:49I know you eating some wings and that probably make you feel
- 33:51good, but I can tell you wake up like this and to see somebody
- 33:55playing, like I said, seeing somebody playing that just have
- 33:59that kind of enthusiasm. It's like infectious.
- 34:01My old ass feel like going playing.
- 34:03Let me put my helmet on. Shoot, let me get out here.
- 34:07I know the guy 37. I see you have the helmet.
- 34:15I might need to go out here to 37 U. 37 U.
- 34:19You got eligibility left right? When there's a well, there's a
- 34:21way, you can only dig it to the lead.
- 34:23I got to get to work. I got to get to work on Mondays.
- 34:25I ain't going to go out there and get beat up for them.
- 34:27Boy, you'll be looking like Mark Wahlberg and invisible.
- 34:32Exactly. So let's throw this out here
- 34:35real quick as we get to wrapping it up.
- 34:37When everything starts tomorrow, what's the one thing you're most
- 34:40excited about? Say it again, my father didn't
- 34:43hear. You when, when you guys get to
- 34:44start tomorrow, whatever it is, coaches, skiing, being with your
- 34:48boys out there, hitting somebody, oh, what's that one
- 34:51thing you get the most excited? About for tomorrow.
- 34:54Oh, I mean inside run hands down like we got inside run the third
- 34:57day. What as I'm waiting for that
- 34:59like right now, it's just not saying it's not exciting like,
- 35:02but we're in spiders and I'm a defensive lineman.
- 35:05So it's like it's a lot of you know what I mean?
- 35:10Like like hand fighting, slap boxing and shit.
- 35:12But when some shorter pads come on, Oh yeah, it gets real in the
- 35:15trenches. You're ready to hit, hit.
- 35:17Because at that point it's like shit, I got my pads on, you got
- 35:20your pads on. Ain't no brother-in-law shit.
- 35:21Let's go. You know what?
- 35:22I. Mean brother-in-law shit that
- 35:25might be the line of the year. brother-in-law shit everybody.
- 35:32What? OK so wait a SEC.
- 35:33Wednesday is day three Saturday or is day three Sunday.
- 35:37Oh, that's a great question. I live life day by day.
- 35:39I don't know, I say I hope it's Saturday.
- 35:42The. Sooner it happens when it
- 35:43happens. Exactly.
- 35:45Now Jay, I know I you you was talking about the defensive
- 35:49players that they brought in. They did a pretty good job on
- 35:52the offensive side of the ball as well.
- 35:53Have you have any other new running backs or offensive
- 35:57players been sizing you up? Oh yeah, that boy Bully, Hell
- 36:01yeah from Bowling Green. He's like, oh, he was in the Mac
- 36:04too. I was like, hell yeah.
- 36:05Like Lucky we didn't play your ass, Lucky we didn't play your
- 36:09short ass. But but like, I love Bully.
- 36:13Like he's somebody that he's going to get after it.
- 36:15He's a running back. Like Buddy got that chip on his
- 36:19shoulder. He ready to run through anybody
- 36:20and I cannot wait to see him. He kind of reminds me of running
- 36:24back from Arizona State, my boy Scataboo.
- 36:26Like he got, he got that dog in him.
- 36:29I'm excited to see him play, without a doubt.
- 36:31Definitely. What about on the offensive
- 36:34line? There's a bunch of new faces
- 36:35kind of pulling through from our perspective.
- 36:38What's it been like? I know you had a little bit of
- 36:40experience with that in the spring.
- 36:42What's that been like so far? What do you like about those
- 36:44guys? Oh.
- 36:45Not excited we have. This is the most athletic
- 36:47offensive line group I've ever been a part of.
- 36:50Hands down, like we got my boy Lathe Gannon, my roommate who's
- 36:55a freaking he'd be working his ass off and on the field, you
- 36:58see that shit show like Johnny number 79, he's a dog, like
- 37:02probably one of the most flexible offensive lineman I've
- 37:04ever seen in my life and he's athletic as hell.
- 37:06And then you got Tom Moose or Tomas.
- 37:08I'd be saying his name wrong, but Buddy's a.
- 37:11Freaking and he can. Move.
- 37:14But yeah, it's we got some dogs in the offensive line like
- 37:17Kyron. He going to feel safe in that
- 37:19pocket this year. That's what we need.
- 37:21Best music to our ears? Music big time to our ears, man.
- 37:25Music big time die ears. All right, before we get one
- 37:27last question, anybody you want to shout out anything you need
