- 0:00Speaker 1: Let's set out to the ramos Law hot line car
- 0:01Speaker 1: accident You need ramos Law Medical doctor and Attorney Ramoslaw
- 0:04Speaker 1: dot com or Joined as we Are every Thursday by
- 0:06Speaker 1: Jeff Lagwaald of ESPN dot com.
- 0:09Speaker 2: LEGI, how are we?
- 0:11Speaker 3: I'm good? Are you guys doing good?
- 0:13Speaker 1: Vick's down there at Radio Row in San Francisco. I
- 0:16Speaker 1: got a question for you, though, because I've seen a
- 0:17Speaker 1: lot of Broncos fans, uh, the discussion of acquiring more talent,
- 0:22Speaker 1: especially at the skill position level. There's two names that
- 0:25Speaker 1: I've seen repeated that I want no part of, and
- 0:28Speaker 1: I think that you would agree with me, maybe maybe not.
- 0:31Speaker 1: It's Aj Brown and George Pickens. I don't like the
- 0:34Speaker 1: personality fit. I don't want those guys in the locker room.
- 0:36Speaker 1: I know they're supreme talents, but is there something that
- 0:40Speaker 1: would push you away from just a a an attitude
- 0:44Speaker 1: in ego standpoint with them?
- 0:47Speaker 3: Well, I think the head coach might have some questions
- 0:49Speaker 3: for both of them. Yeah, you know, And I think.
- 0:51Speaker 4: That's the real question. Doesn't much matter what I think.
- 0:56Speaker 4: Just knowing Sean Payton, I think he would he would
- 1:00Speaker 4: have plenty of questions for those guys. Doesn't mean he
- 1:02Speaker 4: wouldn't do It, doesn't mean he wouldn't think he could
- 1:05Speaker 4: coach him. It just would mean he would have a
- 1:08Speaker 4: lot of questions for And look, Pickens. Pickens is going
- 1:12Speaker 4: to take you know, top of the market money. And
- 1:17Speaker 4: we've seen the Broncos spend at a lot of positions
- 1:22Speaker 4: so far, but we haven't seen them give a receiver
- 1:25Speaker 4: or running back top of the market money. So I
- 1:28Speaker 4: think that would be a departure of you know, where
- 1:33Speaker 4: they've gone.
- 1:34Speaker 1: Yeah, they need a departure though, like do they need
- 1:38Speaker 1: to go out and like really emphasize a wide receiver,
- 1:41Speaker 1: a tight end of running back that is.
- 1:45Speaker 4: You know those I think they want to up the
- 1:48Speaker 4: ante on offense, and they certainly have more salary cap
- 1:52Speaker 4: room and all their and they got more cash than
- 1:54Speaker 4: anybody in the league. So yeah, if they want to
- 1:57Speaker 4: play to spend the money game, you know, they certainly can.
- 2:01Speaker 4: But I don't think, uh, I don't think free agency
- 2:06Speaker 4: is the cure all And we see it every year
- 2:08Speaker 4: and I know we all love it because it's familiar names,
- 2:13Speaker 4: you know, the resumes, but uh, you know, well, Aj
- 2:18Speaker 4: Brown played better for his next team than he has
- 2:22Speaker 4: you know, for his previous ones. History has shown most
- 2:27Speaker 4: free agents at that age don't play better than they did,
- 2:32Speaker 4: and you're giving them money that says play better, don't
- 2:36Speaker 4: play the same, play better.
- 2:38Speaker 5: LEGI Monday Night, Luca Evans of The Post speaking to
- 2:43Speaker 5: Stefan Diggs. Diggs admitted that the Broncos almost signed him
- 2:47Speaker 5: in the offseason to a free agent contract, but he
- 2:50Speaker 5: was stolen away by the Patriots, who ultimately offered him
- 2:53Speaker 5: more money at the same rate. When when they're making
- 2:56Speaker 5: these runs at these marquee receivers they didn't sign one
- 2:59Speaker 5: doesn't say that the I'm not going to try this offseason.
- 3:01Speaker 5: Do you think a playmaker is their number one target here,
- 3:05Speaker 5: whether it be a running back or receiver.
- 3:07Speaker 2: Is that where they're headed in free agency?
- 3:10Speaker 4: Well, you know, you know the short answer is yes,
- 3:13Speaker 4: you can't say it isn't. I mean the stat I
- 3:16Speaker 4: keep telling or saying is catches receptions of ten yards
- 3:23Speaker 4: or more, you know, twenty yards or more. Twenty yards
- 3:27Speaker 4: are more explosive plays. They have one player in the
- 3:32Speaker 4: league's top forty eight man one Courtland Sutton, and that's it. So, yeah,
- 3:40Speaker 4: you need more pop on offense, but you know, I
- 3:44Speaker 4: know defensive coaches in the league that would say some
- 3:48Speaker 4: of it is they've gotten not much out of the
- 3:50Speaker 4: tight end position the last three years. This one's you
- 3:55Speaker 4: know Ingram had a lot of catches, but they didn't
- 3:58Speaker 4: have a tight end average ten yards a reception. That's
- 4:03Speaker 4: not impactful in today's league. So yeah, they need more
- 4:06Speaker 4: an impact. It's just a matter of are you going
- 4:10Speaker 4: to give the people the snaps?
- 4:11Speaker 3: You know? Now? You know in his days in New
- 4:14Speaker 3: Orleans when.
- 4:15Speaker 4: He had Michael Thomas, Michael Thomas got tons of targets
- 4:19Speaker 4: and tons of receptions and tons of receiving yards and
- 4:24Speaker 4: a whole.
- 4:25Speaker 3: Lot of plays.
- 4:26Speaker 4: But he has not shown maybe because he hasn't had
- 4:29Speaker 4: that kind of player, but he hasn't shown the proclivity
- 4:33Speaker 4: here to give somebody the kind of snaps you're gonna
- 4:36Speaker 4: have to give them if you're going to spend big money.
- 4:40Speaker 4: So but I do think they'll be on the hunt
- 4:42Speaker 4: for impact. And the issue is this is not a
- 4:46Speaker 4: tremendous draft on offense. Defensively, it's loaded, and that's the
- 4:53Speaker 4: issue for the Broncos. It's it's loaded on the wrong
- 4:56Speaker 4: side of the ball. On draft Day, doesn't mean, you
- 4:59Speaker 4: can't fine guys you like, certainly at receiver. There's a
- 5:03Speaker 4: lot of receivers as always, but this is a heavily
- 5:06Speaker 4: weighted draft to the defensive side of the ball, and
- 5:10Speaker 4: I just go to the senior ball doesn't mean everything.
- 5:14Speaker 4: But I stood there for two days and watched every
- 5:17Speaker 4: drill and every eleven on eleven won by defense.
- 5:22Speaker 1: Jeff lake One with his ESPN dot com all conversations
- 5:25Speaker 1: with LEGI you brought to you by the International Brotherhood
- 5:27Speaker 1: of Electrical Workers IBW Local sixty eight, start with the
- 5:30Speaker 1: job and with a career. If they had to go
- 5:33Speaker 1: back to last year's draft, did they make the same selection?
- 5:37Speaker 3: You know?
- 5:38Speaker 4: I did that for us and our exercise, and I
- 5:40Speaker 4: took John A. Barron again, really because he was a
- 5:44Speaker 4: top ten player on their board when they took him
- 5:47Speaker 4: the first time, and he would still be a top
- 5:49Speaker 4: ten player on their board the way it shook out now,
- 5:52Speaker 4: when we did the exercise at ESPN with all the
- 5:57Speaker 4: team reporters, Ashton genty was still on the board.
- 6:01Speaker 3: So to me, that was the toughest call was do
- 6:03Speaker 3: you just give him July or Baron?
- 6:07Speaker 4: But I gave him Barron because when they took Harvey,
- 6:12Speaker 4: they said privately and publicly he was the target at
- 6:17Speaker 4: running back. So whether or not you want to assume
- 6:20Speaker 4: they just thought we're not getting genty anyway, you know
- 6:24Speaker 4: in that scenario.
- 6:25Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean that's the issue.
- 6:27Speaker 4: But I took Baron anyway because he was a top
- 6:31Speaker 4: ten player.
- 6:31Speaker 3: On their board and would have been in the scenario
- 6:36Speaker 3: we had going.
- 6:37Speaker 5: Hey, did you see the photos Jane Byron posted on Instagram?
- 6:41Speaker 5: He was it looked like in the hospital for some
- 6:43Speaker 5: surgical procedure.
- 6:44Speaker 2: Do you have any insight on that?
- 6:47Speaker 3: I don't.
- 6:47Speaker 4: I was told he had, you know, obviously he showed it,
- 6:52Speaker 4: but that's pretty common for players. I would guess ten
- 6:57Speaker 4: or eleven guys had some kind of clean up procedure
- 7:01Speaker 4: after the season, and I was told they had several.
- 7:05Speaker 4: That was the word I was given several, and none
- 7:09Speaker 4: were concerning to them about being ready to start OTAs
- 7:13Speaker 4: and the off season program.
- 7:16Speaker 1: Legy, allow me a second to get this question out,
- 7:19Speaker 1: because it's long. Win didn't I apologize I'm filling the
- 7:21Speaker 1: role of mosure today.
- 7:22Speaker 2: Are you going full? Let me time this question? Hold
- 7:24Speaker 2: on a second, let me get.
- 7:25Speaker 5: It, get a time or get a time.
- 7:27Speaker 3: Are you ready? Second?
- 7:28Speaker 2: Ready? Good?
- 7:29Speaker 1: So this Super Bowl I don't know if it's like
- 7:32Speaker 1: there's a lack of oomph because of we look at
- 7:35Speaker 1: this traditionally as quarterback matchups, and maybe Sam Donald versus
- 7:38Speaker 1: Drake May isn't as sexy as like Josh Allen versus
- 7:41Speaker 1: Matthew Stafford. Do you think it's that or is it
- 7:44Speaker 1: that people assume that Seattle is going to win this
- 7:47Speaker 1: game pretty easily?
- 7:49Speaker 2: That's only nineteen seconds. That's a short question, long for me.
- 7:54Speaker 4: Probably a little of both, you know, and I think,
- 7:57Speaker 4: you know, it's hard. I think it's hard to gauge,
- 8:01Speaker 4: you know, the buzz of Super Bowl. I mean it's
- 8:04Speaker 4: it's covered differently now. I think the week is it's
- 8:09Speaker 4: almost like people are tired by the time they get
- 8:12Speaker 4: to Friday, today and Friday. But you know, I think
- 8:17Speaker 4: as many people are going to watch the Super Bowl
- 8:19Speaker 4: as always. Yeah, and I don't know if these two
- 8:24Speaker 4: teams have that. You know, do you have a Joe Burrow,
- 8:29Speaker 4: you know, Lamar Jackson, Patrick Mahomes type of player.
- 8:34Speaker 1: It's always kind of tied to It's always tied to
- 8:36Speaker 1: like legacy of the quarterbacks, Like if Josh Allen got
- 8:38Speaker 1: his first one, that's a huge thing. If Stafford gets
- 8:40Speaker 1: his second, then where is he all time in your
- 8:43Speaker 1: quarterback rankings?
- 8:44Speaker 4: But it's dark exactly, and you know, and it's kind
- 8:47Speaker 4: of like I think the rest of America is trying
- 8:50Speaker 4: to wrestle with the idea that New England.
- 8:53Speaker 3: Made it without Tom Brady.
- 8:54Speaker 4: So it's you know, is this going to be a
- 8:57Speaker 4: problem type of thing for other fans?
- 9:00Speaker 2: What?
- 9:01Speaker 5: Uh?
- 9:01Speaker 3: Yeah, you know.
- 9:02Speaker 4: And I think defensive teams sometimes do this, you know,
- 9:06Speaker 4: they they don't have snazzy nicknames and the rest of it.
- 9:10Speaker 4: But I think a lot of the Super Bowls, like
- 9:12Speaker 4: a lot of the seasons, sometimes it's it's very quarterback
- 9:15Speaker 4: driven in the public domain because you've got a lot
- 9:19Speaker 4: of people who might not be fans of either team
- 9:22Speaker 4: that are that are looking in.
- 9:24Speaker 5: All right, let me show you how to ask a
- 9:26Speaker 5: long question. All right, let me get my time or
- 9:29Speaker 5: hang on a second, get your time around there. Three, two, one,
- 9:33Speaker 5: go Leggie. A lot has been said about who's going
- 9:36Speaker 5: to be calling the plays next year for the Denver Broncos,
- 9:39Speaker 5: and Sean Payton has been, you know, one of the
- 9:40Speaker 5: best play callers in the history of the game. He's
- 9:43Speaker 5: proven that he's done it for so many years. But
- 9:44Speaker 5: Davis Webbs now emerged, and we thought that Davis Webb
- 9:47Speaker 5: would have the opportunity to do here when Joe Lombardi
- 9:51Speaker 5: was cast aside, and we assumed at that point the
- 9:53Speaker 5: hate they're doing it because Davis Webb is going to
- 9:56Speaker 5: be the new OC. And the only reason Davis web
- 9:58Speaker 5: sticks around is if he's given some opportunity to call play.
- 10:01Speaker 5: So let's say he does call the plays at the
- 10:04Speaker 5: end of the day, Who's going to make the final
- 10:07Speaker 5: say on that play? Is it going to be Sean Payton,
- 10:10Speaker 5: the ultimate play caller who goes to bed with that
- 10:13Speaker 5: play sheeting his head in his hand. Or is it
- 10:15Speaker 5: going to be Davis Webb, who's the new found youthful talent,
- 10:20Speaker 5: void by all this energy now is he going to
- 10:22Speaker 5: be calling the play? Who is the guy at the
- 10:25Speaker 5: end of the day, LEGI, I mean when you go
- 10:27Speaker 5: home at night, you're probably thinking about this. You're thinking
- 10:30Speaker 5: about it like the rest of us. Are you thinking
- 10:32Speaker 5: about it right now or not? I don't know, But
- 10:34Speaker 5: who do you think has the ultimate say on play
- 10:37Speaker 5: calling duties? Next year when the Denver Broncos go to
- 10:40Speaker 5: training camp and beyond.
- 10:41Speaker 4: Jeff Legane, I was thinking about it when you started
- 10:46Speaker 4: the question and then I lost him.
- 10:48Speaker 3: No, I don't think you know, I don't know.
- 10:52Speaker 4: I don't want to speak for him, but I don't
- 10:54Speaker 4: think Sean's decided. I think that would be you know,
- 10:59Speaker 4: the finality of it. There's no way he and Davis
- 11:03Speaker 4: Webb didn't have that discussion as Davis web decides to
- 11:07Speaker 4: stay you know here.
- 11:10Speaker 3: But how that would look on game day, it would
- 11:13Speaker 3: be uh.
- 11:14Speaker 4: I don't think people sort of would think about it
- 11:17Speaker 4: much because they don't have to. But this, this would
- 11:20Speaker 4: be a departure from how Sean Payton has constructed.
- 11:24Speaker 2: His week.
- 11:27Speaker 3: As an NFL head coach.
- 11:29Speaker 4: Everything he does in terms of when his meetings are,
- 11:33Speaker 4: how practice is set up, all of it is predicated
- 11:37Speaker 4: on the fact he's got to be the head coach
- 11:41Speaker 4: and get everything ready to be the play caller on
- 11:45Speaker 4: game day. So for him not to call plays would
- 11:48Speaker 4: take a restructuring of.
- 11:51Speaker 3: How he of how he does his whole week, and.
- 11:56Speaker 2: You know, it changes him, It changes him from being.
- 11:59Speaker 3: Around him for three years.
- 12:00Speaker 4: It would be an immense decision and on game day
- 12:04Speaker 4: it's hard for me to imagine him sitting on his
- 12:07Speaker 4: hands and not wanting that last word on the headset
- 12:13Speaker 4: at some point. But doesn't mean they can't work it
- 12:16Speaker 4: out and won't work it out. And you know they're
- 12:19Speaker 4: gonna have to have a system because you got to
- 12:23Speaker 4: call plays and it's got to be smoother and frankly,
- 12:27Speaker 4: they got to get stuff in sooner than they did
- 12:29Speaker 4: this year and they know it. They know teams took
- 12:33Speaker 4: advantage of them because they couldn't get their stuff in
- 12:37Speaker 4: on time. But it would take a significant change for
- 12:41Speaker 4: how Peyton approaches the game week during the game, how
- 12:46Speaker 4: he is on the headset. But he often tells stories
- 12:50Speaker 4: of when Parcells gave him play calling duties of you know,
- 12:55Speaker 4: the clicking noises and the you know, the cuss saying
- 13:00Speaker 4: the how could you call that? Or and as the
- 13:03Speaker 4: plays being called. So you know, he's lived through this
- 13:07Speaker 4: kind of thing on the other side of it, you
- 13:09Speaker 4: know where Davis web would be, Yeah, if they did it,
- 13:14Speaker 4: But he thinks an awful lot of Davis Web and
- 13:17Speaker 4: of all the people who've worked for him over the years.
- 13:21Speaker 3: I think Davis Webb.
- 13:22Speaker 4: Is in a far different position with Sean Payton on
- 13:25Speaker 4: this than Pete Carmichael or Joe Lombardi were in all
- 13:30Speaker 4: their time with the Saints.
- 13:31Speaker 3: So I don't know.
- 13:34Speaker 4: That he'll totally give it up, but I think certainly
- 13:37Speaker 4: he'll give it more consideration than he has in the past.
- 13:41Speaker 1: Did Max Crosby plays last game as a Raider?
- 13:44Speaker 4: Well, he's certainly telling people I know in the league
- 13:46Speaker 4: he has, But that's you know, that's.
- 13:49Speaker 3: Not really up to him.
- 13:51Speaker 4: He's got a contract, so you know, it's the old
- 13:55Speaker 4: the old thing. Do you want an unhappy player around
- 13:58Speaker 4: or you want to get as much draft cap as
- 14:00Speaker 4: you can. You're the Raiders. You appear to be in
- 14:03Speaker 4: a nice little rebuild mode. You got the number one
- 14:06Speaker 4: pick of the draft, and you could probably get some
- 14:08Speaker 4: more ones or at least more twos.
- 14:14Speaker 3: If you trade Max Crosby.
- 14:15Speaker 4: So I think an awful lot of people I know
- 14:17Speaker 4: in the league think before the draft that may be
- 14:20Speaker 4: something that heats up.
- 14:21Speaker 1: What do you think the QBAC to the Raiders thing
- 14:23Speaker 1: does for him?
- 14:27Speaker 4: I think he's you know, it's just a question of
- 14:29Speaker 4: are you ready to manage the whole thing? But he's
- 14:32Speaker 4: one of the smartest young coaches I've ever been around,
- 14:35Speaker 4: and I certainly think the world of his.
- 14:37Speaker 3: Dad and that offense.
- 14:41Speaker 4: That offense is proven, and I don't know, you know,
- 14:45Speaker 4: it's in the super Bowl again, So I think he's
- 14:49Speaker 4: got a good chance. You know, it's just a question
- 14:51Speaker 4: of what kind of good infrastructure you're going to have
- 14:54Speaker 4: around him.
- 14:55Speaker 3: I think Spy Tech.
- 14:56Speaker 4: Is a is a really good football guy at GM. See,
- 15:00Speaker 4: you got a chance at acquiring players, but you got
- 15:03Speaker 4: to get the owner on the page of let's build this.
- 15:06Speaker 3: Right, let's not freak out.
- 15:09Speaker 4: Uh, And we don't know if Tom Brady or anyone
- 15:11Speaker 4: else can can get Mark Davis to do that.
- 15:15Speaker 5: I've got one last one. In the history of football,
- 15:17Speaker 5: do you remember the coaching ranks being so well family
- 15:23Speaker 5: oriented as they are today? Everybody is a son or
- 15:25Speaker 5: grandson of another coach, and that I've never seen anything
- 15:28Speaker 5: like it.
- 15:30Speaker 3: Well, I do know if if you were a young
- 15:32Speaker 3: minority coach, you were wondering what the hell you've got
- 15:35Speaker 3: to do to be a to be a head coach.
- 15:38Speaker 3: But yeah, no, I.
- 15:39Speaker 4: Don't think anyone would would have a problem with any Kubiaks,
- 15:44Speaker 4: you know, being being head coaches. So I don't want
- 15:47Speaker 4: to imply that. But I know I know personally some
- 15:51Speaker 4: coaches who look at ten openings and and look at
- 15:55Speaker 4: who got them and and see a lot of people
- 15:59Speaker 4: who passed over or who are more experienced or whatever.
- 16:01Speaker 4: But it's it's the way we're at. I mean, I
- 16:04Speaker 4: think people in the NFL have always.
- 16:06Speaker 3: Said it's it's who you know.
- 16:09Speaker 4: And you know, Nathaniel Hackett's going to be an offensive coordinator.
- 16:13Speaker 3: Yeah, next season. So and I think that's an example
- 16:17Speaker 3: people point too as well.
- 16:19Speaker 5: We have two Harballs coaching in the league. We have
- 16:21Speaker 5: two who was just tired in Arizona, the floor. We
- 16:26Speaker 5: have two floors coaching in the league.
- 16:29Speaker 1: So here's my question, LEGI if I legally changed my
- 16:32Speaker 1: name to Shanahan and put down on my resume that
- 16:35Speaker 1: I was under the McVeigh coaching tree, am I a
- 16:38Speaker 1: head coach next year?
- 16:40Speaker 4: Even before you you finished changing your name, you know,
- 16:45Speaker 4: I think you would be a head coach. I think
- 16:48Speaker 4: it's it's a I think I just had someone, a
- 16:52Speaker 4: team president, tell me this the other day, But I
- 16:54Speaker 4: think I think it's true that every coordinator Sean McVay
- 16:59Speaker 4: has had an l as a head coach.
- 17:01Speaker 3: I think a head coat, Crazy has been hired as
- 17:04Speaker 3: a head coach.
- 17:05Speaker 4: So you can tell what people are looking for, you know,
- 17:09Speaker 4: so whether or not that's the way it should be,
- 17:13Speaker 4: but you can tell what people are looking.
- 17:15Speaker 2: For, fellas.
- 17:16Speaker 5: I think Jerry Rice just showed up at the media
- 17:19Speaker 5: center in a bow tie?
- 17:20Speaker 2: Was that Jerry over here? Yeah?
- 17:25Speaker 5: Yeah, he will be known as a former Bronco forevery
- 17:28Speaker 5: Do you remember, Leggy what jersey number he wore as
- 17:31Speaker 5: a Bronco?
- 17:32Speaker 3: It was Crazy seventeen. I was a weird number.
- 17:35Speaker 2: I can't remember. Somebody will have the answer to that.
- 17:38Speaker 3: But he was Brott seventeen. But I can't remember.
- 17:41Speaker 2: The preseason nineteen nineteen.
- 17:44Speaker 3: That's right.
- 17:45Speaker 5: But he showed up in a When you show up
