- 0:39SPEAKER_05: Welcome in, everybody, to the Talk and Tech Podcast, Powered by the Nation, part of the Nation Podcast Network.
- 0:44SPEAKER_05: I'm your host, Steven Rodriguez, my co-host Tristan McGonagall.
- 0:47SPEAKER_05: Tristan, a few things have happened in the last couple weeks.
- 0:51SPEAKER_05: Slow news week.
- 0:52SPEAKER_05: Very slow news week.
- 0:54SPEAKER_05: Not a lot happening with the Big 12, college football, really anything, man.
- 0:59SPEAKER_05: It's been uh it's been kind of a lowly offseason.
- 1:02SPEAKER_05: It's the dog days of summer.
- 1:03SPEAKER_04: You know, we're all just waiting for sports to start.
- 1:05SPEAKER_04: I wish there was just a little drama to happen to keep us entertained and engaged with the content.
- 1:10SPEAKER_05: Yeah, I know.
- 1:11SPEAKER_05: Uh no, actually, turns out everybody, everybody moved.
- 1:17SPEAKER_05: Conferences.
- 1:18SPEAKER_05: This is wild.
- 1:19SPEAKER_05: Uh the pack 12 is dead.
- 1:21SPEAKER_05: They're pack four, sir.
- 1:23SPEAKER_05: But it's not dead, sir.
- 1:25SPEAKER_05: Sorry.
- 1:25SPEAKER_05: The pack four is still alive and thriving.
- 1:29SPEAKER_04: The they're single and ready to mingle, dude.
- 1:31SPEAKER_05: The the Big 12 has 16 teams, the Big Ten has 18 teams, uh, the SEC has 16 teams still, the ACC is in shambles.
- 1:42SPEAKER_05: I don't know.
- 1:44SPEAKER_05: Where do you want to start?
- 1:45SPEAKER_04: I where do you start?
- 1:47SPEAKER_04: No, we're sticking here, dog.
- 1:49SPEAKER_04: So it's funny they keep saying, all right, no, as as default, we are a Texas Tech podcast, therefore, in many ways, a Big 12 podcast.
- 1:57SPEAKER_04: Sure.
- 1:57SPEAKER_04: We please start saying Big 16 podcasts.
- 2:00SPEAKER_04: Big uh there needs to be some change going on.
- 2:04SPEAKER_04: Rebranded, it's a new age, it's a new era.
- 2:06SPEAKER_04: Let's start there.
- 2:07SPEAKER_04: I think it's a new era.
- 2:09SPEAKER_04: Let's uh let's go ahead and switch it to the big 16 or the sweet 16, something like that.
- 2:13SPEAKER_04: Like do something fun with it.
- 2:14SPEAKER_04: How about no numbers?
- 2:15SPEAKER_05: How about we just do something different?
- 2:17SPEAKER_05: I don't know.
- 2:19SPEAKER_05: Okay, good piece.
- 2:21SPEAKER_05: With with how much college football is constantly changing these days, why would you tie yourself down with a number?
- 2:28SPEAKER_05: It's not we're potentially adding two more teams in just basketball.
- 2:31SPEAKER_05: So what are you gonna do?
- 2:32SPEAKER_05: 16, 18 with it, Steven.
- 2:35SPEAKER_05: I'm just saying big number is not a good name for the conference anymore, and it's not for the Big Ten, it's not for the Big 12.
- 2:44SPEAKER_05: Everybody just needs to change to something.
- 2:46SPEAKER_05: The the Southeastern Conference still kind of works, it it doesn't, but sure.
- 2:51SPEAKER_05: It doesn't, but it's better than Big 12 that has 16 teams, you know?
- 2:57SPEAKER_04: Yes, and no, okay.
- 2:59SPEAKER_04: I I've always hate I've always disliked the name Big 12.
- 3:03SPEAKER_04: I think it's kind of a dumb name because it just sounds like a bootleg Big Ten spinoff in a way, you know.
- 3:09SPEAKER_04: Like it should have been something else from the start.
- 3:11SPEAKER_04: I hate that we just kind of went like, well, since we're all just combining the uh big eight in the southwest conference, how about we just call it the big 12?
- 3:18SPEAKER_04: Like, I think they had the they have an opportunity, new conference.
- 3:21SPEAKER_04: Let's go ahead and redo this thing.
- 3:22SPEAKER_04: But I think now that you have the brand humming along, you gotta kind of stick with it.
- 3:27SPEAKER_04: So you just kind of alter it a bit, make it to Big 16.
- 3:30SPEAKER_04: And here's my pitch the Big 16 can have affectionate nicknames such as the Sweet 16 and the Big Team.
- 3:39SPEAKER_04: Like, I think I think those are good, fun progressions of the brand.
- 3:45SPEAKER_05: I don't like it.
- 3:48SPEAKER_05: Fine, I don't like it because first off, Sweet 16 is already owned by the NCAA tournament.
- 3:54SPEAKER_05: That is that a trademark, probably.
- 3:57SPEAKER_05: It's probably trademarked.
- 3:58SPEAKER_05: I don't know.
- 3:59SPEAKER_05: But it's already trademarked the words and 16 in a row.
- 4:02SPEAKER_05: When you think of Sweet 16, you're not gonna think of a conference, you're gonna think of the Sweet 16 in March Madness.
- 4:07SPEAKER_04: Hey, hey, guess what conference is gonna have a shitload of teams in that?
- 4:11SPEAKER_05: Listen, I understand where you got this is we're we're talking about stuff that probably shouldn't have started off the top of the episode.
- 4:17SPEAKER_05: Uh the big the Big 12 added the four quarter schools, uh Arizona, Arizona State, Colorado, and Utah.
- 4:27SPEAKER_05: Um the Big Ten added Oregon and Washington.
- 4:31SPEAKER_05: Let's talk about the Big 12 because this solidifies us as the third best conference, as a conference that is going to survive in this insanity that is realignment of college football.
- 4:46SPEAKER_05: This is a good thing from a Texas Tech fan's perspective.
- 4:52SPEAKER_05: Yes?
- 4:53SPEAKER_04: Oh, yeah.
- 4:54SPEAKER_04: No, no, big time.
- 4:55SPEAKER_04: It really is.
- 4:56SPEAKER_04: Um, this is more than just a victory.
- 4:59SPEAKER_04: Um, when is when all this nonsense started, the goal was to survive.
- 5:04SPEAKER_04: And the Big 12 realized that once, and uh, we're gonna we gotta give some we gotta give Bob Bowlesby some credit.
- 5:10SPEAKER_04: No, whoever, um yeah, hang with me.
- 5:12SPEAKER_04: No, just for a second.
- 5:13SPEAKER_04: Just for a second, just for a second.
- 5:15SPEAKER_04: So whenever UT and O you left, everyone, every single person left us for debt.
- 5:20SPEAKER_04: Everyone was saying that we are done.
- 5:22SPEAKER_04: This thing is is derelict, and everyone they would just be lucky to find a lifeboat.
- 5:27SPEAKER_04: And no one found that.
- 5:28SPEAKER_04: And Bob Ballsby was letting big the hate hateful hate find lifeboats.
- 5:33SPEAKER_04: He wasn't he wasn't trying to just keep us together.
- 5:35SPEAKER_04: He said you gotta do what's best for your school immediately after that.
- 5:39SPEAKER_04: Then, once everyone took a good long look in the mirror and realized that this nobody wants us, we are the middle America teams that would are beloved, but don't rake in the dollars hand over fist.
- 5:53SPEAKER_04: So, what he did is he went and got the best G5 teams and solidified us as actually for once 12 a 12 team league.
- 6:02SPEAKER_04: We were a big we were the big 12 for a moment in time and gave us the platform to go and do what we just did.
- 6:10SPEAKER_04: So while ball while ball bull bob boltsby kind of tied it together, Brett Yormark, the G, the killer, the he's better than Bob in every way.
- 6:19SPEAKER_04: I'm not even trying to go there.
- 6:20SPEAKER_04: This G went in went way past that.
- 6:23SPEAKER_04: He did more than just a victory lap.
- 6:25SPEAKER_04: The dude went and made us the third best conference in the country.
- 6:28SPEAKER_04: Nothing anyone saw coming whenever we uh got left for dead two years ago.
- 6:33SPEAKER_04: We are lit, we are arguably the second best football conference, first of all.
- 6:37SPEAKER_04: And this is just uh you you couldn't ask for a better outcome as a Texas Tech fan.
- 6:44SPEAKER_05: No, no, I'm just not gonna give a lot of credit to Bob Ballsby because he's the reason that we're the third and not potentially the first.
- 6:54SPEAKER_05: Um, but no, that's that's that was before him.
- 6:57SPEAKER_05: Sure.
- 6:58SPEAKER_05: Regardless, we don't need to talk about Bob Bowlesby anymore.
- 7:01SPEAKER_05: Brett Yormark is the guy.
- 7:04SPEAKER_05: Brett Yormark is the guy who was innovative and ended up getting four awesome programs, our five brands to the Big 12 to make us not only just surviving, but thriving, in my opinion.
- 7:22SPEAKER_05: So I this is so awesome, not just from like we could talk about the fan perspective.
- 7:28SPEAKER_05: Like, it's gonna be awesome to go and visit these four cities, it's gonna be awesome to go to Boulder, it's gonna be great to go to Tempe.
- 7:34SPEAKER_05: Like, it's gonna be really fun to have these teams in the conference, and not and in my opinion, they all fit, you know, the Big 12 brand, the rest of these schools, they all fit together and we're gonna be awesome together.
- 7:48SPEAKER_05: Um, but the the fact that we were left for dead, basically, everybody counted us out, everybody said the Big 12 is uh gonna merge with the uh American Athletic Conference and be a bottom tier league.
- 8:06SPEAKER_05: Uh, and to take that to sign a media deal immediately, something that the Pac-12 could obviously not do very well, is just astounding.
- 8:17SPEAKER_04: No, it really is, man.
- 8:19SPEAKER_04: Um, we like you just like you like Ari uh said on there, uh, we solidified our place in in third, and we are officially a super conference.
- 8:28SPEAKER_04: We can we can officially use that vocabulary now, and there's three super conferences in the country, and no one else can say that.
- 8:34SPEAKER_04: And what that means is Texas Tech's officially at the big boy table for a while there, we were kind of in this like middle ground between the power two and the g5.
- 8:43SPEAKER_04: I'm not trying to blow sunshine up the rear end and say it's equal to the Big Ten or the SEC, but we have to be included in their conversations now, just do the just due to pure number and brand power.
- 8:56SPEAKER_04: Like we are in that conversation, especially whenever we talk about sports that aren't football.
- 8:59SPEAKER_04: When you talk about basketball and baseball, we are absolutely, you know, obviously we're the best in basketball and we're we're second best in baseball without question.
- 9:06SPEAKER_04: So we are officially at the table.
- 9:09SPEAKER_04: So the the hateful eights uh rose from the ashes, and like a Phoenix, here we are set and at third.
- 9:17SPEAKER_04: And that's that was the goal from the start, and that's what separated us from the Pac-12 in the ACC is we understood what the goal was.
- 9:25SPEAKER_04: They did it.
- 9:26SPEAKER_04: That's why we won.
- 9:27SPEAKER_05: Yeah, innovative.
- 9:29SPEAKER_05: I mean, that you needed you need to survive.
- 9:32SPEAKER_05: You it's survival of the fittest, and the Big 12 is doing that.
- 9:37SPEAKER_05: I mean, they added uh four solid programs, uh, the best the G5 could have offered, plus BYU, and now they took four name brand power five programs.
- 9:48SPEAKER_05: So, I mean, yeah, everything you said is is correct.
- 9:53SPEAKER_05: I am really happy with the position that we're in.
- 9:56SPEAKER_05: I do feel bad for the Oregon states, the Washington states of the world, because we're not sure what is gonna happen with them.
- 10:04SPEAKER_05: Um, but you know, because we were kind of in their position at one point.
- 10:09SPEAKER_05: I mean, not nearly as bad as what those dudes are in now, but you know, you do feel I don't feel bad for Stanford, I don't feel bad for Cal.
- 10:17SPEAKER_05: They're gonna be fine.
- 10:18SPEAKER_05: They're academic schools, uh, it doesn't matter.
- 10:21SPEAKER_05: Sports are very much secondary to them.
- 10:24SPEAKER_05: Um, but there's a lot of passionate Beaver fans and a lot of passionate Cougar fans that are really gonna feel an effect from this, and that sucks.
- 10:32SPEAKER_04: No, absolutely, man.
- 10:34SPEAKER_04: It's it's not fair.
- 10:35SPEAKER_04: Um, but with this relegation comes a lot of positives as well.
- 10:39SPEAKER_04: Um, because you know, you you watched three teams who absolutely deserve to be in this position.
- 10:47SPEAKER_04: You have I I got kind of flustered whenever I saw people saying that oh, I hate that we added the four schools.
- 10:55SPEAKER_04: Um, whenever we're you know taking P5s now.
- 10:58SPEAKER_05: You know, it seems like we just uh have these low we could we couldn't have got we couldn't have got those P5s if we didn't add those guys.
- 11:04SPEAKER_04: Exactly.
- 11:05SPEAKER_04: That that would that was exactly the point I was going to make.
- 11:08SPEAKER_04: You take these three these three, those uh BYU is without question always deserved a spot.
- 11:13SPEAKER_04: Um, they just obviously have their baggage that keeps them from the pretentious people.
- 11:17SPEAKER_04: Um, but you add these programs who act like power five programs, you really do like people get so caught up in the arbitrary P5, G5 monicures.
- 11:29SPEAKER_04: Whenever these three teams, there's so many G5s that act in support like a power five team, but just because a hundred years ago they weren't with Ohio State or with Alabama, so it's just it's not even a fair comparison.
- 11:46SPEAKER_04: So you have all these teams already got you know rising up to finally get their place since they've been chomping at the bit, you know, like Cincinnati, who's been a power conference before in the big east, and UCF, who uh obviously is the the rising young power right now.
- 12:02SPEAKER_04: Um Houston, Houston's been a power font conference before with South with the Southwest, but and while their fan support isn't quite there yet, their leadership is 100% has their eyes on the prize.
- 12:14SPEAKER_04: So I I'm I'm just I I that kind of bugged me whenever I saw people ripping on that.
- 12:18SPEAKER_04: Yeah, it's really exciting whenever you're posting the P5, but none of that would have been possible if you didn't get these other dudes too.
- 12:24SPEAKER_05: Yeah, so so let's talk about the timeline of all this because I've been glued to my phone.
- 12:31SPEAKER_05: I'm sure you've been glued to your phone.
- 12:32SPEAKER_05: I haven't gotten any work done.
- 12:36SPEAKER_05: I haven't gotten any work done the last like week, uh, because of all the realignment news.
- 12:42SPEAKER_05: But Colorado comes over first.
- 12:44SPEAKER_05: They before the media deal was even presented to the Pac-12.
- 12:49SPEAKER_05: Um, they decided we're going to the Big 12.
- 12:53SPEAKER_05: They probably knew, yes.
- 12:54SPEAKER_05: Most of these schools kind of knew uh a base number or something, and or what was you know, some of the details of the deal.
- 13:02SPEAKER_05: This thing this has been going on for 11, 12 months now.
- 13:06SPEAKER_05: Like, you know, so these schools knew Colorado realized what they are and how culturally they're more fit for the Big 12, plus they would be more stable, and they would potentially even be the first domino to affect the you know, the entire state of realignment.
- 13:26SPEAKER_05: So they saw that, they realized this is their way out and to a more stable situation, and they did it.
- 13:33SPEAKER_05: And that's awesome because Colorado belongs in the Big 12, they've always belonged in the Big 12, they should have never left.
- 13:39SPEAKER_05: And that that what do you think about Colorado being kind of the first domino?
- 13:45SPEAKER_04: They realized that.
- 13:46SPEAKER_04: I think I think you put it perfectly.
- 13:47SPEAKER_04: They they realized what moving to the Pac-12 was a mistake, and it wasn't a bad move when they did it.
- 13:54SPEAKER_04: This was back whenever UT was lighting the Big 12 on fire, and the the thought was UT and all of us were about to head over to the Pac-12.
- 14:02SPEAKER_04: So, like, we got to get ahead of this, we gotta have our seat at the table, we gotta go to the Pac-12 now.
- 14:06SPEAKER_04: And obviously, you know, the all the academics like being associated with the Stanford and Cal.
- 14:10SPEAKER_04: Um, obviously, that's way out the window now.
- 14:12SPEAKER_04: But um I think this is perfect.
- 14:15SPEAKER_04: You know, they they have over 100 years of history with the teams in this conference, they've been in the same conference as them for an eternity.
- 14:21SPEAKER_04: So, and I think this is them striking while the iron is red hot because they are one of the most talked-about athletic departments in the country right now.
- 14:30SPEAKER_04: Love them or hate him with the uh Deion Sanders, all eyes are on them right now because of it.
- 14:34SPEAKER_04: And I think he's a guy who understands Texas and Florida and really gave his opinion that I would rather be in the Big 12 right now, and I think it's gonna be better for them.
- 14:44SPEAKER_04: I think they'll be able to recruit better out of the heartland rather than the the West Coast.
- 14:48SPEAKER_04: Um, and I I just I think they're gonna they're gonna get back to what they know, what they were good at.
- 14:54SPEAKER_04: They used to be a really they they won a natty less than 30 years ago, so it's they're in the big eight.
- 15:00SPEAKER_04: So they're just getting back to what they know, and I think it's a I think it's a perfect move.
- 15:04SPEAKER_04: And they saw the writing on the wall, and they've been really good about this.
- 15:07SPEAKER_04: Like I said, they they dipped out of the Big 12 and they was about to explode, like clearly about to explode.
- 15:12SPEAKER_04: Um, and now they're doing the same thing with the pack.
- 15:15SPEAKER_04: And I think they didn't feel so bad about it because guys, we've been here for five minutes, so it's not like we're best friends, so no doubt, no doubt.
- 15:23SPEAKER_05: I was I I don't think Colorado makes that move if they don't hire Deion Sanders, and that's wild to think about with just a head coach of one of your sports uh to completely move conferences.
- 15:38SPEAKER_05: But Colorado was in the gutter, nobody was talking about Colorado two years ago, and now all of a sudden, even after a terrible season, they went one and eleven last year.
- 15:48SPEAKER_05: Like they were horrible, and yet they hire this guy who has brought a sort of spotlight on this program and a new kind of momentum towards the future of what they can be in football, the most revenue generating sport.
- 16:05SPEAKER_05: So I think I think they gave him a lot of say in it.
- 16:09SPEAKER_05: And I don't know if Deion's even gonna be there for a long time, but he should be talked about in terms of like actual like Colorado history getting them back to the Big 12.
- 16:19SPEAKER_04: I mean, he he's gonna kick ass in the Big 12, like recruiting wise, I think, because he's gonna just show up in Texas with this Dallas Cowboy stuff and be like, hey, well, you want to do some of this kind of thing, you know?
- 16:31SPEAKER_04: And that's it's really that easy.
- 16:33SPEAKER_04: Like, that's that's how that's how he's been doing, you know, really kicking some butt.
- 16:36SPEAKER_04: So I love it.
- 16:37SPEAKER_04: I it's so I think it's so fun to have a story like that in our conference.
- 16:40SPEAKER_04: Like, imagine a Deion Sanders, Joey Maguire game or press conference, you know.
- 16:45SPEAKER_04: Like that's that's electric.
- 16:46SPEAKER_04: So it's it's gonna be a ton of fun, man.
- 16:49SPEAKER_04: And like I said, uh it talked about having a destination of Boulder, Colorado.
- 16:53SPEAKER_04: You and I've been talking about like, man, I can't wait to go there and drink cores straight from the source, you know, and um dripping down from the mountains.
- 17:01SPEAKER_04: Yeah, and it's just it it you're adding another flagship institution and one that's clearly serious about getting their athletic department back on track, and it's just it it solidified that the Big 12 isn't a G5 conference in quotation marks because they're having P5's effect to us, and it was just the first domino to fall, and it was a smart move.
- 17:23SPEAKER_04: The the pack was clearly dying, and it's we're actually seeing its heat death right now.
- 17:27SPEAKER_05: Yeah, and even if you just get Colorado, you get the Denver market, you get Colorado.
- 17:32SPEAKER_05: That is a it's a recruiting bed, it it may not be the biggest recruiting bed, but it's a huge, it's a huge growing state.
- 17:39SPEAKER_05: Um, so after Colorado decides to make the move, that happened pretty quickly.
- 17:43SPEAKER_05: I mean, it seemed like the rumors came out on like, I don't know, last whatever, last Saturday or something like that, and then it happened on Sunday.
- 17:51SPEAKER_05: I don't know, and I don't know the exact days, but it happened within a day.
- 17:54SPEAKER_05: Um lighting.
- 17:56SPEAKER_05: Then yeah, then you start hearing, okay, Colorado's leaving.
- 17:59SPEAKER_05: The Pac-12 is needs to get a media deal in front of their schools to give the precedence and the um, you know, just the the schools a at least a sense of what they're looking at with a media deal here.
- 18:12SPEAKER_05: So then you start seeing Arizona rumors, and our guy, Jason Schear, who's been all over this all year, uh for the past two years, probably, um very consistent on the Big 12 is in a better spot than the Pac-12.
- 18:26SPEAKER_05: And he's saying this from the Pac-12's perspective, which I think a lot of people gained a lot of respect for him for doing that.
- 18:32SPEAKER_05: But Arizona, which is a school that he raps, I mean, he works for the Arizona 247, I think, website.
- 18:40SPEAKER_05: So you start hearing rumors of hey, maybe the Wildcats are looking to switch over.
- 18:44SPEAKER_05: I mean, pretty quickly here.
- 18:46SPEAKER_05: It's looking like Arizona is a good fit culturally for the Big 12.
- 18:49SPEAKER_05: They see more stability over there after getting the first bit of media deal information from Kleevkov and Co.
- 18:56SPEAKER_05: And they're looking to jump, and that starts happening quick.
- 19:00SPEAKER_05: What was going through your mind when uh when Arizona was going through all that?
- 19:04SPEAKER_04: You know, uh, whenever Colorado jumps, and obviously the question was who's the next one to do it?
- 19:09SPEAKER_04: I think pretty much all of us said Arizona.
- 19:12SPEAKER_04: Um, because Arizona, I feel like has been in the we in the works much longer than we think.
- 19:16SPEAKER_04: I think they've been really because even the president as months ago was saying, show me the numbers, and he was like explicitly saying that he knows he has a spot in the Big 12.
- 19:25SPEAKER_04: Not in like a cocky way, but in a way like like if they that they were clearly talking to each other.
- 19:30SPEAKER_04: So um, no, uh that's that's whenever those running through my head, I was obviously very excited because you know you're you're bringing in we were just talking about a very cool destination, growing state, especially growing state in football.
- 19:42SPEAKER_04: Yeah, like there's a lot of Arizona, there's a lot of talent coming out of Arizona right now.
- 19:45SPEAKER_05: How about we talk about Texas Tech starting quarterback and punter from Arizona?
- 19:49SPEAKER_04: Yeah, exactly.
- 19:50SPEAKER_05: Tyler Tyler Shuck from Chandler and uh and Austin McMahon from uh Gilbert, Arizona.
- 19:54SPEAKER_04: Yeah, and uh, you know, I I wasn't completely sold that it was going to happen because you know they're they were the pack nine at the moment, and people were talking about, you know, oh, we're gonna trade up in quotation marks.
- 20:07SPEAKER_04: I mean, what a smack in the face to an institution like Colorado, and they're the comfort color was like whatever, like saying saying, like, we'll add San Diego State.
- 20:16SPEAKER_04: And I mean, that's no disrespect to San Diego State at all.
- 20:18SPEAKER_04: I think they're they absolutely deserve a spot at a P5 table, um, because they act like it.
- 20:23SPEAKER_04: Um, but uh basically it basically it it kind of seemed like it was inevitable that the pack was eventually it was going to die from there, though.
- 20:33SPEAKER_04: And once once uh you saw the Arizona rumors, that's when we started seeing the uh the Washington and uh Oregon rumors spin up again.
- 20:42SPEAKER_04: And so I I I people kept saying that the destiny of the Pac-12 was on the Arizona schools at that point, and I think it's true.
- 20:50SPEAKER_04: I think Colorado felt that too.
- 20:51SPEAKER_04: I think Colorado saw Arizona flirting with the Big 12.
- 20:55SPEAKER_04: So um, but yeah, that that was my initial thoughts.
- 20:58SPEAKER_04: What about you?
- 20:59SPEAKER_05: Colorado just had the uh, for lack of better terms, the balls to jump quicker and make that decision quicker.
- 21:09SPEAKER_05: Um the Big Ten, that whole thing, it all ties together.
- 21:14SPEAKER_05: So I know we're going all over the place, but it all ties together.
- 21:16SPEAKER_05: The Big Ten, for some reason, rumors are coming out about the conference and those schools and those presidents not wanting to destroy the Pac-12.
- 21:26SPEAKER_05: When they did, though.
- 21:27SPEAKER_05: I uh dude, I know they took they already took USC and UCLA, so they tore the heart right out of it.
- 21:34SPEAKER_05: I hated every time I saw a tweet that said Big Ten presidents don't want to be the the straw that breaks the camel's back, you know, for the Pac 12.
- 21:45SPEAKER_05: And it's like, guys, you were all you already did that, okay?
- 21:48SPEAKER_05: Like, if this happened to the Big 12, it would have been the SEC's fault for taking Texas and Oklahoma if we didn't have a friggin' awesome commissioner that took over.
- 21:57SPEAKER_05: But besides that point.
- 22:00SPEAKER_05: The Big Ten start seeing, okay, Colorado left, so it's prime poaching time.
- 22:04SPEAKER_05: Let's go get Oregon and Washington for a cheaper deal for at least the beginning of their 10 year less than the Big 12, and uh in their you know, first couple years in the Big Ten.
- 22:14SPEAKER_05: No, it's it's not just a couple.
- 22:16SPEAKER_05: Oh, is it is it multiple?
- 22:17SPEAKER_04: There it at least from what I know.
- 22:19SPEAKER_04: I'm sure I might I might I might get roasted for this later.
- 22:21SPEAKER_04: Um, I saw that was um every year they're in it, they get a million added to their pay cut to their payout.
- 22:26SPEAKER_06: Oh, yikes.
- 22:27SPEAKER_06: That's a lot.
- 22:28SPEAKER_06: Yeah, that's forever.
- 22:29SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 22:30SPEAKER_04: So and and imagine how much money they're losing compared to their counterparts every time.
- 22:35SPEAKER_04: And like uh uh Shaehan, Geraja, one of our favorites, he he was like saying, Why would you want to go to a conference and make so much less than everyone else?
- 22:46SPEAKER_04: Like that's just a recipe for L's at the end of the day.
- 22:49SPEAKER_06: Stability, though.
- 22:49SPEAKER_05: It's just stability.
- 22:51SPEAKER_05: Like in their position, they just they were gonna take anything, so yeah, and Oregon and Washington, they were in a weird position because they're clearly elite brands of college sports, and not quite S tier, but A tier.
- 23:03SPEAKER_05: Yeah, they're A tier, and they deserve to be, you know, in the SEC or the Big Ten.
- 23:10SPEAKER_05: Like they just did.
- 23:12SPEAKER_05: Uh, you could argue a lot of schools in the Big 12 deserve to be in those conferences too, but it's those those two teams were always probably gonna go to the Big Ten.
- 23:21SPEAKER_05: That was the writing was on the wall, it was just gonna happen.
- 23:23SPEAKER_05: And when Colorado left and when the Arizona rumors started heating up, they were like, Okay, we're just gonna jump ship and we're just gonna be the teams that do it.
- 23:31SPEAKER_04: Yeah, and uh I I want to I want to pause right there um because that's what I I'm going to love so much about the Big 12.
- 23:40SPEAKER_04: So I was listening to the Shutdown Fullcast, a very fun college football podcast, and a very excellent point he made about the Big 12 is that the Big 12 has no S tier, it has no A tier, it's a team full of B tiers that are trying so hard all the time at everything, and it's just gonna be the most fun conference to watch year in and year out.
- 24:02SPEAKER_04: And I couldn't agree more that it's just a whole bunch of scrappers always trying their very best to be good, and you don't get that in every conference.
- 24:10SPEAKER_04: That's I know people are like, Oh, what why is that a good thing?
- 24:12SPEAKER_04: It's something about B tiers.
- 24:13SPEAKER_04: No, that's not a knock on the Big 12 because the Big Ten and the SEC they have D tiers, they have C tiers, so they're just there to lose.
- 24:22SPEAKER_04: That doesn't exist in the Big 12, not even in Kansas.
- 24:26SPEAKER_04: So it's just we have this dog fight in the conference, so we added nothing but B tiers as well.
- 24:33SPEAKER_04: So we have this absolute dog fight going on, and I just I just want to do a tidbit there since I don't want to lose my thought.
- 24:39SPEAKER_04: Um, but yeah, go on about uh what you were saying.
- 24:41SPEAKER_05: No, no, no.
- 24:42SPEAKER_05: No, that I mean what you said is true because you have a bunch of B tiers, but you also have a bunch of potential to move out of that B tier to be a power.
- 24:51SPEAKER_05: I mean, uh you know, this whole thing, and this has been said about the new Big 12 conferences who's gonna be the new top dog in the Big 12 now that Oklahoma's gone.
- 25:00SPEAKER_05: You know, Texas, you could argue with the brand or whatever, but they haven't won anything.
- 25:04SPEAKER_05: But it's it's interesting, it's really fun.
- 25:07SPEAKER_05: It's you're you have a lot of hungry programs that are gonna be vying for that potential to be the next top dog and get a spot in this new 12-team college football playoff to upset some of those Big Ten and SEC teams.
- 25:21SPEAKER_04: Yeah, talk about like an underappreciated aspect of us being the super three here.
- 25:25SPEAKER_04: Um, that we will obviously before we had a guaranteed team in the playoff every year, but now it's there's probably a pretty good chance you can put two in every year now.
- 25:34SPEAKER_06: Oh, yeah.
- 25:35SPEAKER_04: So um, and I I know everyone keeps saying who's gonna fill the vacuum of top dog in the Big 12 whenever UT and OU are gone.
- 25:43SPEAKER_04: I'm sorry, we gotta stop saying UT.
- 25:45SPEAKER_04: Like it's just OU whenever OUT's whenever OU's gone.
- 25:48SPEAKER_04: Um, but I don't think there's going to be.
- 25:52SPEAKER_04: I think teams will go on streaks, but I don't see one becoming a preeminent top dominator.
- 26:01SPEAKER_05: I think that's fun up and down.
- 26:03SPEAKER_04: Yeah, no, exactly.
- 26:03SPEAKER_04: That's my point.
- 26:04SPEAKER_04: Yeah, yeah.
- 26:04SPEAKER_04: They'll go up and down, up and down, up and down.
- 26:06SPEAKER_04: Obviously, I love that for me to Texas Tech, but I don't the programs in the Big 12, I just don't think are built to just sit there and sustain S-tier success at all times.
- 26:16SPEAKER_04: So that's what's gonna be fun about it.
- 26:18SPEAKER_04: And you just don't you you you get that in the Big 12.
- 26:21SPEAKER_04: You don't get that, you don't get that anywhere anywhere else.
- 26:23SPEAKER_04: You know, in the Big Ten, you have Ohio City, Michigan, end of list.
- 26:26SPEAKER_04: You go to the FCC, you get Alabama, Georgia, end of list and LSU every once in a while.
- 26:31SPEAKER_04: But um, that's that's that's that's the conversation.
- 26:33SPEAKER_04: And we get ours, we're gonna undoubtedly have the most single most fun league in all sports every single year.
- 26:41SPEAKER_05: Easily, easily, and then you're taking that and you're even amplifying it for basketball, where you have literally the best programs in the country all in one place, and there's even rumors, and we can get to this in a second about the Big 12 adding basketball-only um universities, which is insane.
- 26:58SPEAKER_05: But let's let's kind of get back on track here because Arizona, a bunch of rumors come out.
- 27:04SPEAKER_05: I what was this Thursday night?
- 27:06SPEAKER_05: They had a board of regions meeting that they all met.
- 27:10SPEAKER_05: Uh, the the thing that was tricky about adding Arizona and not Arizona State was that they both um are under the one board of regents.
- 27:21SPEAKER_05: Yeah, you know, it's it's one Arizona Board of Regents, and it's got Arizona and Arizona State and probably multiple other.
- 27:29SPEAKER_05: So it was basically like Arizona having to convince the idiot that is president of Arizona State to try to try to go over because this media deal is not worth it.
- 27:42SPEAKER_05: For some reason, and he's still doing it, and that's another topic that we'll get to.
- 27:46SPEAKER_05: Arizona State did not want to jump, and they still probably don't really want to be in the Big 12, but they're here now because it's stable.
- 27:56SPEAKER_05: And so yeah, Arizona, yeah, Arizona, that whole situation is still a little iffy for me because of Arizona State.
- 28:06SPEAKER_04: Yeah, well, let's sit on that yin-yang for a second, huh?
- 28:08SPEAKER_04: Like you you have this team who is clearly elated to be in the Big 12.
- 28:14SPEAKER_04: I think it's because their leadership understands the what what what's happen the tea leaves, what's happening right now, and that the Big 12 is clearly their best choice.
- 28:21SPEAKER_04: And I think they're excited about just being in the Big 12.
- 28:24SPEAKER_04: I do think they immediately get a pay raise.
- 28:25SPEAKER_04: I'm pretty sure our payout is large already larger than the Pac-12.
- 28:28SPEAKER_04: Yeah, and obviously you get the exposure of ESB and the Fox that they want to get in pack, and Arizona being the basketball blue blood they are, they get to come into the Big 12 and be with the big boys.
- 28:38SPEAKER_04: Um they're ready to go, dude.
- 28:41SPEAKER_04: I've loved their content coming out on Twitter, and all their fans seem so excited to be with us.
- 28:46SPEAKER_04: And I think it's a perfect cultural fit.
- 28:48SPEAKER_04: I think they both the Arizona schools are.
- 28:50SPEAKER_04: I think we got to be careful in allowing the leadership of the school to rub off on the whole base because obviously Arizona State is just like any other uh Big 12 school as well, at the end of the day, um, in many ways.
- 29:03SPEAKER_04: Um, but you're right, dude.
- 29:04SPEAKER_04: That the the president of Arizona State has been absolutely dragging his feet and bouncing from the the Pac-12 to the Big 12.
- 29:11SPEAKER_04: I think this is where you get into that dinosaur mentality of pack schools of I want to be associated with Stanford and Cal.
- 29:22SPEAKER_04: But dude, not even the Big Ten wants to be associated with the Stanford and Cal.
- 29:26SPEAKER_04: And they're they're one of the the nerdy conferences, right?
- 29:29SPEAKER_04: So it's just it's it's it's fascinating to see that one man could have could have killed an entire history of a school just by being stubborn with some sort of academic perception, which is really, really stupid.
- 29:44SPEAKER_04: I'm glad he got dragged over the line.
- 29:47SPEAKER_04: And he probably knew he is he would be fired had this not happened.
- 29:51SPEAKER_04: He legitimately probably would have been run out if if Arizona State went down to the G5.
- 29:57SPEAKER_04: Um, but uh he's lucky that his counterpart dragged his ass over the finish line.
- 30:03SPEAKER_05: Yeah, it's insane in 2023 that you have school presidents that think that are not with the times with athletics and how much money that rakes in for your university.
- 30:13SPEAKER_05: It's why and exposure, yeah.
- 30:15SPEAKER_05: It's your it's your advertisement.
- 30:17SPEAKER_05: Yeah, exactly.
- 30:19SPEAKER_05: You get you this is how you get people to come to your school, yeah.
- 30:22SPEAKER_05: You think see them on TV.
- 30:24SPEAKER_04: Yeah, do you think Al do you think a whole bunch of people are going to out of state to Alabama for the education?
- 30:29SPEAKER_04: No, they see Alabama on the TV and say, I want to be a part of that.
- 30:35SPEAKER_04: That's what athletics at the end of the day for the college are best for.
- 30:38SPEAKER_05: Yeah, yeah.
- 30:39SPEAKER_05: And it's clearly it's not a big deal for a school like Stanford because they are basically an Ivy League level school academically.
- 30:48SPEAKER_05: Um, it's not a big deal for even like a Notre Dame, who I think is really good academically as well, but it's managed, they're a completely different situation because they've been independent forever.
- 30:58SPEAKER_05: Um, but Cal's in the same boat too.
- 31:01SPEAKER_05: For for Arizona State to think that they're so high and mighty that they have this prestigious academic program and can't associate with the teams in the Big 12 is absolutely ludicrous.
- 31:14SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 31:15SPEAKER_04: No, it's it's it's arrogance to the uh to the end of of the story there, man.
- 31:20SPEAKER_04: Um, it's really it's really frustrating because for a while there, we were adding a whole bunch of teams that were very proud to join the Big 12.
- 31:27SPEAKER_04: Um, you know, it's like since like I think Cincinnati's a apparently a very fine institution as well, and they're pumped to be here, you know.
- 31:34SPEAKER_05: They're all fine institutions.
- 31:36SPEAKER_05: It's all I know solid universities in the United States.
- 31:39SPEAKER_04: I know that, but so you know, you know, there's so many people that put too much take into the USA today, crap, you know, and uh in air, the Arizona's are obviously on par with all of us too.
- 31:48SPEAKER_04: So it's just you're not Cal or Stanford, no one ever thought you were Cal or Stanford.
- 31:53SPEAKER_05: So Arizona, Arizona gets all the California rechecks that can't get into Cal and those, you know, UCLA and USC.
- 32:00SPEAKER_04: Dummies can't get into Cal or Stanford.
- 32:02SPEAKER_05: Well, no, I'm just saying, I'm just saying that Arizona gets all the leftovers from California that can't get into those schools.
- 32:09SPEAKER_04: So it's you know, I'm glad you brought that up because uh there was there was the kind of the argument of um the reason why the Arizona schools would be inclined to stay in the Pac-12 is because they have the connection to California with their student bodies and alumni and all that.
- 32:22SPEAKER_04: But guys, like that is the students aren't like like I just I just said Alabama, like it's if they're not looking, you don't need to play in the state to get those kids.
- 32:33SPEAKER_04: You just need to be on TV.
- 32:34SPEAKER_04: That's that's all it is at the end of the day.
- 32:36SPEAKER_04: Um, Arizona and California kids are not gonna stop going to the Arizona schools just because you don't play Cal.
- 32:42SPEAKER_04: All right, yeah, the California kids aren't turning on Cal to what to uh be like, oh man, I can't watch watch my golden bears.
- 32:50SPEAKER_04: You know, like it's just not happening, clearly.
- 32:52SPEAKER_04: So you're you live in this single largest state in the union, population-wise, and their flagship institution, Cal Berkeley, can't get into a power pipe conference that shows the dedication to athletics they have.
- 33:06SPEAKER_04: So, dude, wake up, snap out of it, and get with the times.
- 33:12SPEAKER_04: And I I think I thankfully I think they will.
- 33:14SPEAKER_04: Like a school's obviously much bigger than one person.
- 33:17SPEAKER_05: Yeah, no doubt, no doubt.
- 33:18SPEAKER_05: So Arizona schools coming in, Colorado.
- 33:21SPEAKER_04: Very happy about it.
- 33:22SPEAKER_05: Um, let's talk about that fourth school there over there in Utah.
- 33:27SPEAKER_05: Uh, the youths are coming over.
- 33:32SPEAKER_05: I first off, I'm glad that Utah is now part of the Big 12.
- 33:38SPEAKER_05: I am.
- 33:39SPEAKER_05: I'm glad for the institution, for the sports, for the uh program that Utah is, for the fan base that is wild and says a lot of outrageous stuff, but still passionate.
- 33:53SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 33:54SPEAKER_05: Um, I'm and you get the holy war now in the Big 12.
- 33:58SPEAKER_05: It's amazing.
- 33:59SPEAKER_05: Adding Utah in all not all regards, but in most regards is a great move for the Big 12.
- 34:05SPEAKER_05: The only thing that people are hung up on Utah about is their fan base because they're a little, you know, they say a lot of stuff on Twitter and they piss a lot of Big 12, calling us the truck stop conference, all that kind of stuff.
- 34:17SPEAKER_05: But Utah overall, great addition.
- 34:20SPEAKER_04: 100%, dude.
- 34:21SPEAKER_04: It's it's it's a it's a fantastic edition.
- 34:23SPEAKER_04: It's the best football team you've added in all of this.
- 34:25SPEAKER_04: I mean, obviously, Cincinnati and UCF have been on an utter tear, but Utah has won back-to-back Pac-12 championships.
- 34:33SPEAKER_04: Um and I think it's what's I've never I was just joking, whoever made that.
- 34:38SPEAKER_04: Like I've never bought into Utah fans being utterly pretentious at uh a-holes, you know, because it's just yeah, the loudest on Twitter are gonna be loud about it.
- 34:47SPEAKER_04: And I think at the end of the day, I think they're very frustrated that the pack five Pac-12 is dying because they've been dominating it, they are the football brand there right now.
- 34:56SPEAKER_04: They're they're beating out USC and Oregon.
- 35:00SPEAKER_04: That's not uh it's not a small task.
- 35:02SPEAKER_04: So I can understand why they're pissed off about that and reluctant to move over to our conference.
- 35:10SPEAKER_04: So I think that's what it is at the end of the day.
- 35:12SPEAKER_04: Obviously, you have some fans trying to pull the whole academics thing, but everyone knows you don't talk about academics, we talk about sports nerd.
- 35:18SPEAKER_04: So um, but no, dude, 100%.
- 35:22SPEAKER_04: They're their fan base is rabid, it's very much like adding a TCU to the Big 12 back then, and like pretty much exactly the same sense because they're Mountain West powers that have, and same with BYU, it rose up to the level they are now, and they deserve to be here, and I think that's what breeds a rabid fandom.
- 35:41SPEAKER_04: So uh I love having them here, and I think it's gonna be a great addition, like a very strong addition to the Big 12.
- 35:48SPEAKER_05: Yeah, you USC or UCF and uh and Utah are quickly becoming the villains of the Big 12 on Twitter, uh, which is fine, which is cool.
- 35:58SPEAKER_05: You need some villains, you need some uh some fan bases that are a little arrogant and uh think very highly of themselves because of recent success.
- 36:05SPEAKER_05: Um, but I think they're both gonna kind of have a little wake-up call.
- 36:09SPEAKER_05: I mean, Utah's gonna be competitive pretty much year in and year out, in my opinion.
- 36:13SPEAKER_05: UCF, I think, might have a little bit uh more trouble just going strictly from G5 to P5.
- 36:18SPEAKER_05: The grind.
- 36:19SPEAKER_05: Um, yeah, the grind.
- 36:20SPEAKER_05: I don't even know if we could say P5 anymore because the Pac 4 has four teams, but that's that's right, man.
- 36:26SPEAKER_04: That's weird.
- 36:27SPEAKER_04: Yeah, I like how we have not spent any time lamenting.
- 36:31SPEAKER_05: We knew we knew this was gonna happen.
- 36:34SPEAKER_05: Everybody knew that eventually this kind of thing was gonna happen.
- 36:38SPEAKER_05: We didn't know if it was gonna be the Big 12, the Pac-12, the ACC dying, but it looks like the Pac-12 is pretty much there.
- 36:45SPEAKER_05: So I, you know, this whole thing is insane.
- 36:48SPEAKER_05: I did not think I would see this in 2023.
- 36:51SPEAKER_05: Um, but you know, the the the with Texas and OU leaving with UC USC and UCLA leaving, this was gonna happen here pretty soon.
- 37:01SPEAKER_04: Yeah, and let's let's go ahead and put a pause button on on it.
- 37:04SPEAKER_04: And you know, I just say we haven't spent any time lamenting the death of of a 100 plus year old league that's been you know preeminent, historic, had some of the best teams in the game, um, all games.
- 37:17SPEAKER_04: And um, I I think the reason why it's it's so we're we're we're we're celebrating rather than being sad is just as a Big 12 fan, you are so jaded, you are so worn out by realignment that we're finally on the winning side.
- 37:35SPEAKER_04: It feels so good after you've been counted out countless times to actually win.
- 37:41SPEAKER_04: And we did win.
- 37:42SPEAKER_04: I don't I don't give a shit about what a UTROU fan says about like oh we still bring in more money than all those teams.
- 37:50SPEAKER_04: Like, dude, I don't I don't care.
- 37:51SPEAKER_04: This league's gonna rule, man.
- 37:52SPEAKER_04: It's gonna be stable, it's gonna be uh it's gonna be so much fun, uh, some great teams.
- 37:57SPEAKER_04: No, we're not gonna win many football championships.
- 38:00SPEAKER_04: We're gonna win a lot of basketball championships, but but um we already do that, but we don't care, we weren't doing that anyway.
- 38:07SPEAKER_04: So we're gonna have a bunch of teams in it any and they're gonna be battling for the conference title, which means more to us anyway.
- 38:14SPEAKER_04: So it's just I know it's sad for like you said, the Beaves, the uh the Couggs, and um uh the five, the five Stanford fans, five Cardinal and Bear fans, but it's it's so it is so great to be on the other side of this dude.
- 38:31SPEAKER_04: Like if we lived, we won, baby.
- 38:34SPEAKER_05: Yeah, yeah.
- 38:35SPEAKER_05: I and and I think some people mistake the winning part when you say the Big 12-1 of like you know, going up against the SEC or the Big Ten.
- 38:45SPEAKER_05: No, we won in terms of survival, yeah.
- 38:47SPEAKER_05: We won in terms of getting a fun conference year in and year out to constantly root and be um present in the best and the highest tier of college sports.
- 39:01SPEAKER_04: You know, you know what's funny is like we won in survival.
- 39:03SPEAKER_04: That was the goal, and that goal, it's funny enough that that goal actually made us better than the pack and the ACC, both of them.
- 39:10SPEAKER_04: And now we're we're better than two historic leagues.
- 39:13SPEAKER_04: Well, we kind of helped kill one of them, and we'll help kill another soon enough, I think.
- 39:18SPEAKER_04: And it is really funny that uh the ACC was going to meet Friday to discuss expansion plans, and we already took all the pack teams.
- 39:26SPEAKER_04: How frustrating that must be for them.
- 39:28SPEAKER_04: But I don't I really don't think the ACC had any chance of getting in the pack teams anyway, compared to the mid-12 because their media deal is buttons, dude.
- 39:36SPEAKER_04: And they're across the the travel costs would have been stupid, dude.
- 39:41SPEAKER_05: What you don't want to go to you don't want to go to Winston-Salem, North Carolina, if you're in Utah.
- 39:46SPEAKER_05: What about Tucson to Boston?
- 39:48SPEAKER_04: Yikes or Syracuse, you know, tough scene.
- 39:52SPEAKER_04: The ACC's on the the ACC's unfortunately on the chopping block, um, as well.
- 39:57SPEAKER_04: I it it's they I can't see why any team would want to join outside the G5, any P5 team would want to join the ACC if you hear the way Florida State is talking right now.
- 40:08SPEAKER_04: They're so toxic right now, they are poisoning the well of that conference so hard.
- 40:13SPEAKER_04: I think it's pretty much at the point of no return that they make they've made it clear they want out.
- 40:19SPEAKER_05: Yeah, the ACC is next.
- 40:21SPEAKER_05: I mean, it really is.
- 40:23SPEAKER_05: If you think conference realignment is over, it's not.
- 40:26SPEAKER_05: Um, I want it to be over as much as the next guy.
- 40:29SPEAKER_05: I want to just know what we're doing, you know, 10 years from now.
- 40:34SPEAKER_05: But we could very well add a Virginia Tech, a Louisville, you know, you don't know these things, which would be awesome, but we'll talk about that when it comes to it, when it comes to it.
- 40:45SPEAKER_05: But yeah, it's if this whole thing has been a roller coaster, it's been nuts.
- 40:50SPEAKER_05: Uh, we have 16 teams in the Big 12 now.
- 40:53SPEAKER_05: We have a lot of future vacations planned to these destinations.
- 40:57SPEAKER_05: Um, it's great.
- 40:59SPEAKER_05: I'm I'm I'm happy with how things have unfolded so far.
- 41:03SPEAKER_04: Yeah, man.
- 41:03SPEAKER_04: Um miss me with calling us a league of misfits anymore, though.
- 41:08SPEAKER_04: Uh, we whenever you look at a map, it's pretty dang cohesive.
- 41:12SPEAKER_04: Like it actually makes sense whenever you look at a map.
- 41:15SPEAKER_04: There's three outliers.
- 41:16SPEAKER_04: Three.
- 41:17SPEAKER_04: Okay.
- 41:18SPEAKER_04: You have West Virginia, Cincinnati, and then all even them, they're kind of binded together to make it a little less weird.
- 41:22SPEAKER_04: Really, the true oddballs UCF.
- 41:25SPEAKER_05: Well, they're gonna be there.
- 41:27SPEAKER_05: That's where they should be.
- 41:28SPEAKER_05: The true oddball.
- 41:30SPEAKER_04: Yeah, absolutely.
- 41:30SPEAKER_04: Uh, but outside of that, man, it's we are officially the team of the Great Plains, the cut the League of the Great Plains, of the Southwest, and of the Rocky Mountains.
- 41:40SPEAKER_04: Like we have an identity again.
- 41:42SPEAKER_05: Four time zones, yeah, four time zones.
- 41:45SPEAKER_05: Mountain, Central, Eastern, and what do we have West Coast?
- 41:50SPEAKER_04: Uh, no, but realistically, apparently, Arizona acts as a as a Pacific.
- 41:54SPEAKER_04: Oh, that's right.
- 41:54SPEAKER_05: That's right.
- 41:55SPEAKER_04: Because they don't use uh time savings.
- 41:57SPEAKER_05: So yeah, they're they were ahead of the game on that.
- 41:59SPEAKER_05: Shout out to Arizona.
- 42:01SPEAKER_05: They're daylight savings is stupid.
- 42:03SPEAKER_05: Arizona's been like, we're not gonna do that.
- 42:04SPEAKER_04: Hey, daylight savings is kind of like you know, I have this one time where you have to sleep an extra hour before work, and then another one before you have to get up an hour earlier for work.
- 42:11SPEAKER_05: What one's great and one just like what the hell?
- 42:14SPEAKER_05: I hate this.
- 42:17SPEAKER_04: But yeah, man, that's that's that's kind of my my uh my thought there so far, man.
- 42:21SPEAKER_04: Um, and I really think the I think I really think the cultures of the league line up as well.
- 42:26SPEAKER_04: I think we all have the same idea of what each of us are and what the goal is.
- 42:31SPEAKER_04: I I don't think we've ever had a more unified league.
- 42:34SPEAKER_04: I think you just gotta wait and see for Arizona and Utah to really buy in.
- 42:38SPEAKER_04: I think you're kind of waiting on that so far.
- 42:40SPEAKER_04: Arizona State.
- 42:42SPEAKER_04: Oh, what do I say?
- 42:42SPEAKER_04: I'm sorry, say Arizona's Arizona.
- 42:44SPEAKER_04: Arizona they're here.
- 42:45SPEAKER_04: Arizona's in.
- 42:46SPEAKER_04: I'm sorry, yeah.
- 42:47SPEAKER_04: I I totally meant Arizona State.
- 42:49SPEAKER_04: Arizona's in, dude.
- 42:51SPEAKER_04: Um, but uh yeah, but other than that, man, it's it's it's seriously such a awesome time to be a Texas Tech fan because for a while there, I think we all felt like, man, this could be our black hole moment whenever you TNOU left, that this is it.
- 43:07SPEAKER_04: Like we're going.
- 43:08SPEAKER_04: I was gonna be a fan no matter where we went.
- 43:10SPEAKER_04: If we were a Mountain West team, for an American team, I'm still guns up on every every every Saturday I'm in.
- 43:16SPEAKER_04: But it's just so I'm just so happy I don't have to be, you know, that I get to watch my team be at the highest level of this of all the sports and continue on, man, with some really freaking fun teams, dude.
- 43:29SPEAKER_05: Shouts out Lawrence Skuvenek, shouts out Kirby Oakut for getting our university in a position uh aligned with a a lot of other good universities to be in the position that we are, and uh shout out Bray Yormark for being the freaking G that he is.
- 43:47SPEAKER_05: That guy rules.
- 43:48SPEAKER_05: I mean you I I he's gonna be up there in terms of like all time college commissioners because that dude uh for what he's done from when he's been hired, what he Inherited to where we are now in such a short time frame is insane.
- 44:07SPEAKER_04: I think he's the best in the country.
- 44:08SPEAKER_04: I don't know if there's really much argument for anybody else.
- 44:11SPEAKER_04: I know people will be like, oh, it's Greg Senke, or it's the guy, the Big Ten guy, I don't even know his name.
- 44:16SPEAKER_04: But that's like starting, that's like starting on third base.
- 44:19SPEAKER_04: You know, it's it's not the same situation.
- 44:22SPEAKER_05: Yeah, freaking your mark started in the dugout.
- 44:24SPEAKER_05: Yeah, he did.
- 44:26SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 44:28SPEAKER_04: He was fighting for his life, dude.
- 44:30SPEAKER_04: And he it didn't break a sweat.
- 44:32SPEAKER_04: He didn't let it, he didn't let it get it to him.
- 44:34SPEAKER_04: And man, I just I cannot wait for the next Big 12 media days.
- 44:39SPEAKER_04: And can I can I just also say that um his Colorado announcement was the hardest thing.
- 44:49SPEAKER_07: I was like, I can't.
- 44:50SPEAKER_05: I I saw the I saw the press release of the obviously they're imitating Michael Jordan's I'm back memo when he came out of retirement.
- 44:59SPEAKER_05: But when I saw that and said they're back, I was like, come on, there's no, there's no way that this man is taking so many dubs.
- 45:10SPEAKER_04: There's no way, but man, the future honestly couldn't be brighter.
- 45:16SPEAKER_04: Like my hopes couldn't be higher than for for tech.
- 45:19SPEAKER_04: And I'm arguably more excited about tech now than I ever have.
- 45:23SPEAKER_04: And because I feel like we're in a league that is in the same zone, like we're all we all have the same mind.
- 45:31SPEAKER_04: UT and OU were always making us walk on eggshells, and now we don't have to do that anymore.
- 45:36SPEAKER_04: Now we can run, you know what I mean?
- 45:37SPEAKER_05: And now now nobody has to cater to anybody else in the league.
- 45:41SPEAKER_05: We're all on the same level, we're all in this together and trying to survive and be awesome together.
- 45:47SPEAKER_05: So exactly.
- 45:48SPEAKER_05: Um, and hey, watch out if the Big 12 steals a football national championship here in the next couple of years.
- 45:54SPEAKER_04: God, that would rule.
- 45:55SPEAKER_05: Just watch out.
- 45:56SPEAKER_05: The haters would be very upset, they'd be in shambles, they'd be in shambles.
- 46:01SPEAKER_05: Um, um Do you have you have anything else?
- 46:04SPEAKER_04: Yeah, uh, before we move on from realignment, um, what do you think is going to happen with the pack for?
- 46:13SPEAKER_05: I have no idea.
- 46:14SPEAKER_05: Um I don't know if they're gonna try to keep the pack name and just take Mountain West schools if they're gonna completely merge with the Mountain West.
- 46:24SPEAKER_05: I I really don't know.
- 46:26SPEAKER_05: I don't think any Big 12 ACC Big Ten SEC wants any of those four schools.
- 46:32SPEAKER_05: Potentially you'll see a Stanford or and and by way of Stanford Cal addition to the Big Ten to make an even 20, but I to be honest, I have no idea.
- 46:44SPEAKER_04: Um, I don't think that'll happen.
- 46:47SPEAKER_04: I think if it was gonna happen, it would have already happened because the only attraction that those two have besides the Bay Area, which is I'm not gonna, you know, say that's not a big deal, um, is the academic prestige.
- 47:00SPEAKER_04: You know, you have the the two best schools in the country, right?
- 47:03SPEAKER_04: The there and there, and the Big Ten wants them right now, you know?
- 47:08SPEAKER_04: And um, I what I think is going to happen is I think you will legitimately see the death of the Pac Four because I don't see the Pac Four being able to coop other teams due to buyouts.
- 47:21SPEAKER_04: Because as like a Mountain West team, do you want to pay the 30 million dollars to go to the Pac Four?
- 47:27SPEAKER_04: Like, what does that mean for your school to go from the Mount West conference to this pack four?
- 47:34SPEAKER_04: Like, is this is that an upgrade for you?
- 47:36SPEAKER_04: Like, is that a move?
- 47:38SPEAKER_04: Is that a is that a uh a step up?
- 47:40SPEAKER_04: And I I can't say it is, you know, and same for the American teams, you know.
- 47:45SPEAKER_04: So what I think is gonna happen is I think you're gonna see obviously Oregon State and Washington State just go to the Mount West.
- 47:51SPEAKER_04: I think they fit in really well there.
- 47:53SPEAKER_04: I I'm I'm I I know obviously it's sad for them, but in a way, it's gonna be pretty fun too.
- 47:58SPEAKER_04: They're gonna be with a bunch of state schools that are on their level, you know, in many ways that are they that that that are passionate about their teams, they're not academic snobs, and they're just ready to have fun and watch football, man.
- 48:09SPEAKER_04: And that's I think they're gonna have some fun there once they get over it, you know.
- 48:12SPEAKER_04: And I I get it's easy for me to say, I know, but I think they're gonna have some fun once they get over it.
- 48:17SPEAKER_04: Um, and the Mount West will be elevated for them being there.
- 48:21SPEAKER_04: And uh with but with Cal and Stanford, I'm not too sure.
- 48:24SPEAKER_04: I think they might just go independent.
- 48:25SPEAKER_04: I think they just might rework what their athletic department does.
- 48:28SPEAKER_05: I think they could, they could very well just go independent.
- 48:30SPEAKER_05: I mean, why not?
- 48:31SPEAKER_05: You you you know, you do fine in sports, but it's not your it's like your fifth priority, so you know it doesn't really matter for them.
- 48:40SPEAKER_04: Just try to do the cheap Notre Dame route, you know.
- 48:43SPEAKER_04: Yeah, yeah, you're not Notre Dame, but you're just you know, you're just doing the same thing.
- 48:47SPEAKER_05: Yeah, like people are still gonna put Stanford on the schedule, you know, in a non-conference game or something like that.
- 48:53SPEAKER_05: It's always gonna have it, yeah.
- 48:54SPEAKER_05: Cal, yeah.
- 48:54SPEAKER_05: I mean, I'm sure they're more keen on getting Stanford than Cal, uh, because I think Stanford cares a little more about their athletics.
- 49:00SPEAKER_05: I saw something, I saw a tweet or something that Cal is like majorly in debt in their athletic department, like the most in debt of any program in the country, um, which is insanity.
- 49:12SPEAKER_04: Because obviously, I don't I'm not gonna look at look up their uh in uh their uh uh God, what what what word am I looking for?
- 49:20SPEAKER_04: Uh what word?
- 49:21SPEAKER_04: The the the college money word college money word.
- 49:25SPEAKER_04: That's that's college money word, Steven.
- 49:27SPEAKER_05: That's that Cal Berkeley education right there.
- 49:30SPEAKER_04: What's it called?
- 49:32SPEAKER_04: Call uh their endowment, endowment, endowment, there you go.
- 49:36SPEAKER_04: We go.
- 49:36SPEAKER_04: I'm sure their endowment is at least 15 billion dollars.
- 49:41SPEAKER_04: I'm not even exaggerating.
- 49:43SPEAKER_04: So they can, I'm sure their boosters can move some money over to to send their student student athletes to an away game.
- 49:50SPEAKER_05: They don't want to, though.
- 49:52SPEAKER_04: I know, they don't want to.
- 49:54SPEAKER_05: They're like athletics.
- 49:57SPEAKER_05: No, no, we're gonna put that towards the moon project.
- 50:01SPEAKER_05: Like, I don't know, you know, whatever they got going.
- 50:05SPEAKER_04: But yeah, no, I just want to see where where your mind was at there.
- 50:08SPEAKER_04: Uh, do you want either any of those schools?
- 50:10SPEAKER_04: I don't care.
- 50:12SPEAKER_05: I'm fine if we want to add them, I guess.
- 50:14SPEAKER_05: Um, who would you want to add?
- 50:16SPEAKER_05: I'd I'd rather have the the Washington State and Oregon State than I would Stanford and Cal just because there's more passionate and fun fan bases from like a fans perspective.
- 50:25SPEAKER_05: For the conference perspective, I guess Stanford brings, I mean, they bring stuff because they're you know, they bring the prestige that they have.
- 50:32SPEAKER_04: Cal like the single most uh successful athletic department of all time.
- 50:35SPEAKER_05: Yeah, it would be kind of funny if Cal was added to the Big 12 and Jalen Tyson has to go and play the Big 12 in 2024.
- 50:43SPEAKER_05: Um my god, it's so funny that he transferred so funny, so funny.
- 50:47SPEAKER_05: Who the hell is on his schedule?
- 50:49SPEAKER_05: So funny.
- 50:51SPEAKER_05: I like oh my god, him and that whole situation.
- 50:55SPEAKER_05: I'm not I'm not like salty that Jalen Tyson left or anything like that.
- 50:58SPEAKER_05: Like, I dude did what there's a lot of stuff that went in.
- 51:01SPEAKER_05: There's a lot of stuff that went into that, but it is funny that those guys transferred out and now they're going to what they're going to what in 2024?
- 51:11SPEAKER_05: I don't know.
- 51:11SPEAKER_05: They're gonna play each other eight times.
- 51:13SPEAKER_04: What a doofus.
- 51:15SPEAKER_04: Oh my gosh.
- 51:16SPEAKER_04: But um, no, absolutely, man.
- 51:18SPEAKER_04: Um, so next part of a realignment here.
- 51:22SPEAKER_04: Jason Shear is saying that Brett Yormark is not satisfied, he's not done.
- 51:28SPEAKER_04: He wants to go and get 18.
- 51:31SPEAKER_04: And those two are Zaga and Yukon.
- 51:36SPEAKER_04: So you know, obviously, they'd be uh at this point in time, you feel very comfortable about saying they'd be basketball only.
- 51:40SPEAKER_04: They would lots.
- 51:42SPEAKER_05: Um sure, why not?
- 51:45SPEAKER_05: Bring them out.
- 51:46SPEAKER_05: Let's let's add them as basketball-only members.
- 51:49SPEAKER_05: I I would like to see that number that those schools are getting, um, especially for really I I mean, basketball is a revenue generating sport, but yeah, it's not as highly yeah, but second biggest is like it's like football is way up here and then's basketball.
- 52:08SPEAKER_05: But you know, I want to see how that would work before I give like my woo-hoo, let's do it, or no, let's not do it, because it would be fun.
- 52:19SPEAKER_05: Let's just add two more freaking basketball powers to an already the far and away best basketball conference in the country.
- 52:28SPEAKER_05: It would be insane to play Gonzaga and basketball all the time and to play Yukon and basketball all the time.
- 52:32SPEAKER_05: It'd be really fun, but I want to see how much of the cut they're getting.
- 52:38SPEAKER_04: Yeah, no, 100%.
- 52:39SPEAKER_04: I think I think that's a real question.
- 52:40SPEAKER_04: Because what what do you really have to lose by adding them as basketball and maybe some other sports like baseball and women's basketball, um, softball only members.
- 52:49SPEAKER_05: I'm curious to see what like Notre Dame makes in the ACC because they're an ACC member for basketball.
- 52:54SPEAKER_05: Yeah, everything.
- 52:55SPEAKER_05: So I think yeah, so I'm like curious to see what their cut in that aspect is.
- 53:01SPEAKER_05: If it's just basketball, because Kinsaga has like a serviceable baseball program, UConn as well.
- 53:06SPEAKER_07: You can, you know.
- 53:08SPEAKER_05: Um, I I'm just I just need to see some numbers before I make like an accurate yay or nay.
- 53:13SPEAKER_04: And even still, it would not be Notre Dame's level.
- 53:16SPEAKER_04: I'm sure the ACC probably pays too much for having Notre Dame there, just for having Notre Dame there.
- 53:21SPEAKER_04: Um, and also it's it along with that, they have like a a deal for football as well.
- 53:25SPEAKER_04: They have to play so many ACC football teams as well.
- 53:28SPEAKER_04: Um, so but yeah, no, I I think it's a lot of fun, like you said, as long as the deal's right, and obviously, you know, as call as fans, we this we we probably spend too much time talking about that kind of crap, but I obviously you don't want to do anything that would be a detriment to everybody else and future prospects because I mean we already talked about how the AC the ACC is probably just waiting to die at this point, yeah, um, in any real sense, and obviously plenty of those teams are gonna want a lifeboat to the Big 12, and some of them very much deserving so.
- 53:56SPEAKER_04: Like, I would love to have Virginia Tech, NC State, Louisville, and um Pitt.
- 54:02SPEAKER_04: That'll be all be awesome.
- 54:04SPEAKER_04: So um, well, we'll have to see.
- 54:07SPEAKER_04: We'll have to, I think we at this point, I mean, obviously, you you trust Brett Yormark, he's done enough for you to obviously have that kind of control, you know.
- 54:15SPEAKER_04: He's done, he's he's more than done his job at this point, he's earned that sort of uh freedom.
- 54:20SPEAKER_04: But you know, if I was if I was in this position, I think you kind of just take a breath for a second, you know.
- 54:25SPEAKER_04: Yeah, yeah, onboard everybody first.
- 54:28SPEAKER_05: Yeah, for sure.
- 54:29SPEAKER_05: I mean, I'm happy with who we have right now.
- 54:32SPEAKER_05: If we add Gonzaga and UConn for basketball, cool, awesome.
- 54:36SPEAKER_05: Like, I'm gonna be hyped during basketball season to potentially play those two teams, but um, you know, I I would like to see the cut and what they're looking at getting.
- 54:45SPEAKER_05: So, yeah, man.
- 54:47SPEAKER_05: Um, okay.
- 54:49SPEAKER_05: Realignment.
- 54:51SPEAKER_05: We finally did it, man.
- 54:52SPEAKER_05: We finally did it, dude.
- 54:53SPEAKER_05: We added the four corners, Texas Tech.
- 54:56SPEAKER_05: You gotta feel good.
- 54:57SPEAKER_04: Um, can you just like sit back and believe that this happens?
- 55:01SPEAKER_04: Like how like all they're aiming for the four corners, and everyone's like, oh, what a pipe dream.
- 55:05SPEAKER_04: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 55:06SPEAKER_04: And here we are, we literally did the what exactly that.
- 55:08SPEAKER_05: So well, one of the best parts of this is people going back and retweeting old Wilmer and uh Kenzano tweets that are just ludicrous when you're looking back at it.
- 55:18SPEAKER_05: I mean, you're they're not leaving.
- 55:23SPEAKER_05: Nobody from the pack is leaving for the big 12.
- 55:26SPEAKER_05: 12 and on big 12 Karen.
- 55:32SPEAKER_05: It's lovely, it's lovely getting that sweet, sweet revenge.
- 55:38SPEAKER_04: Feels damn good, dude.
- 55:39SPEAKER_04: It's just it's really funny looking at because um Textech was ready to go.
- 55:43SPEAKER_04: We were ready to the Pac-12.
- 55:44SPEAKER_04: All you had to do was say win, and we were there.
- 55:46SPEAKER_04: And they were too good for us.
- 55:48SPEAKER_05: They wanted a merger.
- 55:50SPEAKER_05: We we wanted to merge with them and say, Hey, let's just do this.
- 55:53SPEAKER_05: And they said, Nope, we're good.
- 55:55SPEAKER_04: And then they and then they came back after UC uh USC and UCLA left and said, Hey, you want to do that merger thing?
- 56:01SPEAKER_04: And Brett Brett being the shark he is, saying, No, I smell blood in the water, boy.
- 56:05SPEAKER_04: You know, it's like I'm good, dude.
- 56:06SPEAKER_04: Yeah, and went and uh finished the job, dude.
- 56:10SPEAKER_06: And that was great.
- 56:12SPEAKER_04: Hell yeah, man.
- 56:12SPEAKER_04: It feels damn good to be know that tech's future is in really good hands.
- 56:17SPEAKER_04: And I guess probably speak for all the hateful eight and everybody coming in.
- 56:20SPEAKER_04: That just feels damn good.
- 56:22SPEAKER_05: I saw I saw a tweet uh looking back at one of the old media days with Larry Scott, who really is the guy who ruined the Pac-12.
- 56:29SPEAKER_05: For sure.
- 56:29SPEAKER_05: Like like Clevcoff's fault.
- 56:32SPEAKER_05: Well, some of it is George's fault.
- 56:34SPEAKER_05: A lot of it's some of it is for sure.
- 56:36SPEAKER_05: Yes, a lot of it mo the majority of it is on Larry Scott, but George has a part in this.
- 56:40SPEAKER_05: That guy screwed up this media deal tremendously.
- 56:44SPEAKER_05: Um, because he could have had the same media deal that we got.
- 56:46SPEAKER_04: Yeah, in the Big Deal.
- 56:47SPEAKER_04: Well, not only that, like he he didn't take the time to sell everybody on expanding into the Big 12.
- 56:53SPEAKER_04: You know, he that that would have single-handedly saved the conference had they poached half our teams, so but they didn't.
- 56:59SPEAKER_05: Yeah, and so there was this clip of Larry Scott at one of the old Pac-12 media days where he was like, um, you know, talking about their current media deal ending in 2024, and he's talking about all these things like, oh, you know, with the way streaming is going and how how all the meteorite stuff is trending, we have such a great opportunity in 2024 to make this conference just have the best media deal ever.
- 57:26SPEAKER_05: And you're you're looking back at that and being like, Bro, hell, that's as freezing cold of a take as you can get, my man.
- 57:35SPEAKER_04: It's it's tough because like looking back, that doesn't sound crazy in that year, but now like everyone's realizing that streaming isn't really all it's cracked up to be in many ways, especially when it comes to live sports.
- 57:45SPEAKER_04: So uh I like I said, man, I'm just I'm just very thankful that we had a guy who understood he wasn't just a good old boy, part of the college club that understands how this sports, how sports media works.
- 57:56SPEAKER_04: Yeah, um, and he he went and got the job done, man.
- 57:59SPEAKER_04: And I really look forward to watching this unfold under his watch.
- 58:02SPEAKER_04: I really hope he sticks around for a good long while.
- 58:04SPEAKER_04: He's not that old, but I and then I hope that uh he doesn't have any other ideas.
- 58:08SPEAKER_04: He says that this is the best job he's ever had.
- 58:10SPEAKER_04: Like he loves he loves what he does, and I bet he does.
- 58:12SPEAKER_04: Like, this is this is a kick-ass gig.
- 58:14SPEAKER_05: He's doing pretty good at it.
- 58:15SPEAKER_05: Yeah, too.
- 58:16SPEAKER_04: I'm sure he's being paid well, but like at the same time, like he he's making history, like he's gonna be in history now.
- 58:22SPEAKER_04: Like, you never hear the GM for the Nets, wherever he was.
- 58:24SPEAKER_04: Like, yeah, I mean, you're gonna be in history for one team, but this is affecting an entire sport or sports plural.
- 58:31SPEAKER_05: So, yeah, no doubt, no doubt.
- 58:33SPEAKER_05: Uh okay, you you good on realignment?
- 58:37SPEAKER_05: Did you have anything else?
- 58:38SPEAKER_04: Yeah, but did do we need uh I know we've we spent a lot of time on this, but I'm just saying, I'm just one more time.
- 58:43SPEAKER_04: Go ahead, go ahead.
- 58:44SPEAKER_04: One more thing.
- 58:45SPEAKER_04: Can it what do you want to see schedule-wise?
- 58:48SPEAKER_04: I feel like it's so funny that we already had talked about this with the the the 12 team Big 12.
- 58:52SPEAKER_04: Now with the 16 team Big 12.
- 58:54SPEAKER_04: What do you want to see like schedule?
- 58:55SPEAKER_04: How would you want to see the schedule unfold like system-wise for uh football, basketball, and baseball probably copy kind of a more basketball model?
- 59:04SPEAKER_05: I feel like with 16 teams, you can't get away with no sort of organization in terms of like divisions or pods or whatever you choose to do.
- 59:13SPEAKER_05: Um, I like protected rivalries.
- 59:16SPEAKER_05: I think I've seen a few of those tweets where they kind of give three team or a team three different protected rivals that they play every year.
- 59:23SPEAKER_05: That that sort of thing needs to happen.
- 59:25SPEAKER_05: Some sort of continuity needs to happen.
- 59:27SPEAKER_05: You can't have a you can't have a situation like in the SEC where Georgia and Texas AM have not played and yet they've been in the same conference for 10 years.
- 59:35SPEAKER_05: Like you can't have that happen.
- 59:38SPEAKER_05: So there does need to be constant switching.
- 59:41SPEAKER_05: You need to have Texas Tech play in Cincinnati, you need to have Texas Tech play in UCF or Utah or whatever.
- 59:48SPEAKER_05: Whether it's every three years or four years, it doesn't matter.
- 59:51SPEAKER_05: You just need to have them, you need to have everybody in your conference playing.
- 59:54SPEAKER_05: That's always been a big pet peeve for me with this super conference thing.
- 59:57SPEAKER_05: So I think pods is a good way to go.
- 59:59SPEAKER_05: You get four protected teams with three protected rivals that you play every year and you develop those rivalries, or you build upon the already uh established rivalry with these, you know, you have Texas Tech have Baylor and TCU and maybe I don't know, potentially Houston or Oklahoma State or something.
- 1:00:16SPEAKER_05: And then you have the Holy War and Utah could there be with, I don't know, the Arizona schools or Colorado or something like that.
- 1:00:23SPEAKER_05: Um, but you know, I I there needs to be some sort of organization, in my opinion, and you can't just go free-for-all, 16 teams.
- 1:00:31SPEAKER_05: We'll make a new schedule every year, you know.
- 1:00:33SPEAKER_04: No, I I like I like the point you made with continuity.
- 1:00:35SPEAKER_04: I think you need to have teams that you know you're going to play every single year in every sport, no matter what.
- 1:00:40SPEAKER_04: I think that's very healthy for the, like you said, the rivalry and plus travel.
- 1:00:46SPEAKER_04: You want to keep you want to keep the Arizonas and the Utahs together, you know, and and I think putting Colorado back with the Kansas schools or something would be a good idea.
- 1:00:54SPEAKER_04: Um and kind of keep keep like a big eight sort of situation going.
- 1:00:57SPEAKER_04: So I'm one, I'm 100% with you.
- 1:00:59SPEAKER_04: I I no division, not not two divisions, it's too big.
- 1:01:02SPEAKER_04: You got you got you get you're gonna have to do pods instead.
- 1:01:04SPEAKER_04: I think you do uh yeah, I think you do four teams with uh three protected rivalries.
- 1:01:09SPEAKER_04: And with Texas Tech, I want to see Baylor, TCU, and let it go up in the air between Oklahoma State between and Houston every single year, um, of who the protected rivalry is, preferably Oklahoma State.
- 1:01:21SPEAKER_04: Um, not not because you know, I I do think we'll be rivals with Houston, but not uh not not a knock on Houston, but like I I would like to have an interstate bot rival in it.
- 1:01:33SPEAKER_04: And I think Oklahoma State and Texas Tech could be could be something as well.
- 1:01:36SPEAKER_04: So that's what I want to see.
- 1:01:38SPEAKER_05: Yeah, no, I I we're on the same page here.
- 1:01:40SPEAKER_05: Um we'll see how they end up doing it, but yeah, just for travel cost purposes, I mean you're gonna have to do that if you're the Big 12.
- 1:01:48SPEAKER_05: So um we'll see some sort of stability organization within um within this massive conference that we now have.
- 1:01:56SPEAKER_04: Yeah, and plus I think it'd be funny to keep Houston with Cincinnati and UCF because they just they despise each other and the triangle of hate.
- 1:02:03SPEAKER_04: They do they hate each other so much.
- 1:02:05SPEAKER_04: So we already have like that uh old American rivalry, which is really we like hate, we like hate, and having West Virginia in there being like, dang it!
- 1:02:16SPEAKER_05: Yeah, we're so sick of being an island.
- 1:02:19SPEAKER_05: What West Virginia's gonna have to start speaking Iowa State, buddy.
- 1:02:27SPEAKER_04: But yeah, but them and Cincinnati need to be together no matter what.
- 1:02:31SPEAKER_05: Oh, yeah, easily.
- 1:02:32SPEAKER_05: I mean, anybody that I UCF's just gonna be the freaking, like you said, the oddball, the oddball of the group that's gonna have to travel a ton no matter what.
- 1:02:40SPEAKER_04: It was kind of crazy though.
- 1:02:42SPEAKER_04: The Big 12 now has two of the three largest universities in the country now.
- 1:02:47SPEAKER_06: We're here.
- 1:02:48SPEAKER_04: I've always you UCF has like what 70,000 undergrads something or something.
- 1:02:54SPEAKER_04: I'm not even exactly they have so much, they have so much potential, they do, and Arizona State is the exact same way, but they're already an established brand.
- 1:03:03SPEAKER_04: And yeah, obviously, and then the other one is AM.
- 1:03:05SPEAKER_04: Imagine if Arizona St.
- 1:03:07SPEAKER_04: AM is really hard to get into though.
- 1:03:09SPEAKER_04: It's tech a tech a tech student wouldn't understand.
- 1:03:14SPEAKER_05: Imagine if Arizona State had a competent president that actually gave a shit about the right thing, seriously, dude.
- 1:03:20SPEAKER_05: It would be insane.
- 1:03:21SPEAKER_04: All right, so yeah, I I think we're probably entering the zone where anybody any uh just general Big Ball fan doesn't have to keep going.
- 1:03:28SPEAKER_04: Um, because I president Scubanek is a hero, dude.
- 1:03:33SPEAKER_04: Guy rules, he was the perfect president for the times because he cares, he he he cares so much about tech athletics.
- 1:03:41SPEAKER_04: It really does help whenever you're an alum because you feel that even extra.
- 1:03:45SPEAKER_04: But he said from the start that he loves sports, he loves tech football, he loves tech sports, and he was one of the true heroes of this new era of the Big 12, the hateful eight.
- 1:03:57SPEAKER_04: Like he was the leader of the hateful eight, he kept everybody together.
- 1:04:00SPEAKER_04: You know, obviously, he tried to get us into the Pac-12 first.
- 1:04:02SPEAKER_04: Um, but after that, he was like, All right, let's do this.
- 1:04:05SPEAKER_04: And you couldn't ask for a guy to lead us into a better future.
- 1:04:09SPEAKER_04: I would much rather prefer a guy like that.
- 1:04:11SPEAKER_04: And obviously, he still cares about academics, dude.
- 1:04:13SPEAKER_04: He's a university president, so but just that you can have both.
- 1:04:17SPEAKER_04: And Arizona State, I guess, thinks they can only have one.
- 1:04:20SPEAKER_04: Only one, only one.
- 1:04:21SPEAKER_04: But I I just shout out to President Scooby.
- 1:04:24SPEAKER_04: Um, he said he liked my tie one time.
- 1:04:26SPEAKER_04: Uh when I was standing for my class ring, and uh yeah, dude.
- 1:04:30SPEAKER_04: Hell yeah, dude.
- 1:04:31SPEAKER_04: He saw me and said, I really like your tie.
- 1:04:33SPEAKER_04: I was wearing a bright red tie.
- 1:04:35SPEAKER_05: That's an all-time dub.
- 1:04:36SPEAKER_05: It was congratulations.
- 1:04:39SPEAKER_05: You hold on to that one, yeah, absolutely.
- 1:04:41SPEAKER_04: And obviously, graduation.
- 1:04:42SPEAKER_04: He saw me again.
- 1:04:43SPEAKER_04: I don't think he made a comment on that tie on the tie that time, but wow, you had a better tie, dude.
- 1:04:49SPEAKER_04: I did wear a different tie, it was red and black tie that time, but um, but yeah, man, all praise to Scooby and obviously Kirby Oak as well.
- 1:04:57SPEAKER_05: Yep, guys, rule uh Texas Tech rules were set up for a great future.
- 1:05:03SPEAKER_04: Uh great future, great future, and we have Jason Shear, our hero in the Big 12 now, which is the new big the new Big 12 media hero along with Shaehan.
- 1:05:14SPEAKER_05: Uh he's Shaehan's not new.
- 1:05:16SPEAKER_05: He's no Shaehan's been here, he's been around.
- 1:05:20SPEAKER_05: Uh yeah, definitely.
- 1:05:21SPEAKER_05: Shout out Jason.
- 1:05:22SPEAKER_04: And Dennis Dodd is feeling himself right now as well.
- 1:05:25SPEAKER_05: And and our guy Brett.
- 1:05:26SPEAKER_05: Brett McMurphy.
- 1:05:27SPEAKER_04: Brett McMurphy's a G as well, man.
- 1:05:29SPEAKER_05: Brett.
- 1:05:30SPEAKER_05: All the Brett's.
- 1:05:31SPEAKER_05: The Brett's.
- 1:05:32SPEAKER_05: All Brett's man.
- 1:05:36SPEAKER_05: Something about Brett's man.
- 1:05:37SPEAKER_05: This is a Brett Pod.
- 1:05:40SPEAKER_05: Brett Pod.
- 1:05:41SPEAKER_05: Um, let's talk a little bit about Texas Tech.
- 1:05:44SPEAKER_05: Okay.
- 1:05:46SPEAKER_05: Okay, fine.
- 1:05:47SPEAKER_05: With my arm.
- 1:05:48SPEAKER_05: We'll talk about Texas Tech.
- 1:05:50SPEAKER_05: Um, we've been going through position groups the last couple weeks.
- 1:05:54SPEAKER_05: Tristan went on vacation.
- 1:05:55SPEAKER_05: I was moving.
- 1:05:56SPEAKER_05: We've had a lot of stuff going on.
- 1:05:58SPEAKER_05: Um, so let's Just talk about a minor position, not a minor position group, it's a very important position.
- 1:06:04SPEAKER_05: But let's at least preview the tight ends here and talk about um these guys and their importance for next year's team and everything like that.
- 1:06:13SPEAKER_04: If you take a vacation to Missouri, does it count?
- 1:06:15SPEAKER_05: It does, it counts, but I still stand by my rule of if you're visiting or vacationing to a Midwestern state, it should be for sports.
- 1:06:24SPEAKER_05: It's very difficult, it's very bear.
- 1:06:26SPEAKER_05: You didn't go for sports.
- 1:06:26SPEAKER_05: I did not go for sports.
- 1:06:28SPEAKER_05: Yeah, that was a uh that was an L.
- 1:06:30SPEAKER_04: Went to a very kick-ass aquarium, though.
- 1:06:32SPEAKER_05: Cool.
- 1:06:33SPEAKER_04: The Bass the Bass Pro the original Bass Pro as an amazing aquarium.
- 1:06:37SPEAKER_05: I love the Midwest fish.
- 1:06:38SPEAKER_04: Love them.
- 1:06:42SPEAKER_05: All right, continue.
- 1:06:43SPEAKER_05: Tight ends.
- 1:06:44SPEAKER_05: Tight ends.
- 1:06:45SPEAKER_05: Let's talk first about I I like to call him Mr.
- 1:06:50SPEAKER_05: Reliable because he doesn't show up on the stat sheet a lot, but he does all the little things that make your team successful.
- 1:06:57SPEAKER_05: And he's back for his super senior season, six foot four, 255 pounds, San Angelo product.
- 1:07:06SPEAKER_05: Henry Teeter is back for his final year of eligibility.
- 1:07:10SPEAKER_05: Um he caught six passes last year.
- 1:07:14SPEAKER_05: Let's uh he's not like this guy who's going to show up in the stat sheet.
- 1:07:18SPEAKER_05: He's blocking, but he's a hell of a blocker, dude.
- 1:07:22SPEAKER_05: He's he's basically another lineman out there, and that's awesome.
- 1:07:26SPEAKER_05: I mean, he's uh he's got the ability to catch.
- 1:07:29SPEAKER_05: He made some big plays last year, caught one touchdown, averaged 10 10 yards of reception.
- 1:07:35SPEAKER_05: So, you know, that's significant.
- 1:07:36SPEAKER_05: Um he's I'm so glad teeter's back because not only for his on-field play, but his leadership in the locker room, I think is significant.
- 1:07:46SPEAKER_05: And to anytime you get a super senior back is awesome.
- 1:07:50SPEAKER_05: And for him being a West Texas product, San Angelo is massive.
- 1:07:54SPEAKER_05: And I think McGuire loves him, I think Cochrane loves him.
- 1:07:57SPEAKER_05: Everybody on that team loves Henry Teter and what he brings.
- 1:08:01SPEAKER_05: So um he I thought he would be the first guy to mention here.
- 1:08:05SPEAKER_04: Um, I'm probably gonna be a pretty broken record with the uh position groups where we talk about their stats in the sense that um obviously, yeah, uh, I think we both wanted the tight end to be a little more involved in the passing game.
- 1:08:18SPEAKER_04: Um, but I think where you're gonna see this next coming year is you have year two in Zach Hitley's offense, so yeah, further time to integrate into the playbook.
- 1:08:27SPEAKER_04: So I think we'll start seeing more of him in there, but at the same time, like blocking is really important.
- 1:08:35SPEAKER_04: So it is it's the the block blocking's the least sexy thing on the football field, but it's no, and you don't want to talk about it, but damn, it's it's having him out there to do that job clearly puts points on the board.
- 1:08:49SPEAKER_04: Yeah, um, so that's pretty much that it's gonna be my repeat uh with with that with uh with with uh the tight ends going forward, but it's it's gonna be great, obviously, like you said, having a super veteran on the team.
- 1:09:01SPEAKER_04: And obviously, he uh hopefully will have more opportunities to grab the ball.
- 1:09:06SPEAKER_04: But I think right now I I trust Zach Hitley to utilize the the guys going forward, you know, in the playbook.
- 1:09:13SPEAKER_05: Yeah, no doubt.
- 1:09:14SPEAKER_05: Um, I'm trying to look up what was probably my favorite play last year.
- 1:09:18SPEAKER_05: Um, it was I called it the tight end wall.
- 1:09:21SPEAKER_05: I don't know what they call it uh in Kidley's offense, but it was against Oklahoma State.
- 1:09:26SPEAKER_05: And basically it was you lined up all three of our guys.
- 1:09:30SPEAKER_05: We're gonna talk about Tharp and Cup too, but you lined up Teeter, you lined up Mason Tharp, and you lined up uh Baylor Cup all on the left side of the field.
- 1:09:38SPEAKER_05: And Morton threw a quick uh sideline out route to uh I it was like Taj Brooks, or maybe it was to one of the tight ends, and you just had three big mother effers blocking into the end zone, and we got a touchdown.
- 1:09:51SPEAKER_05: It was my favorite play that we did all last year, where you just get the big boys out there blocking these little corners and little outside linebackers and everything like that.
- 1:10:01SPEAKER_05: Um, Henry Teter's perfect for that, and the tight ends are perfect for that.
- 1:10:05SPEAKER_04: Dude, give me more of those like random, random, weird plays.
- 1:10:08SPEAKER_04: Those are the ones that go down in the memory book, like like like little people, big world, yeah.
- 1:10:12SPEAKER_04: Um, you know, and uh just so many fun random ones, dude.
- 1:10:16SPEAKER_04: Um, but yeah, no, I I I I think we'll probably see more innovation there because he's had more time to get down into the books and think figure it out.
- 1:10:27SPEAKER_04: So it's just uh having a very developed dude who's yeah, if he's a super senior, I mean he like what 23 at this point, he's up there.
- 1:10:35SPEAKER_04: So he's he's playing with 18-year-olds.
- 1:10:37SPEAKER_04: So hopefully he'll be able to bully some dudes, you know.
- 1:10:40SPEAKER_04: Yeah, and uh that's just it's it's great.
- 1:10:42SPEAKER_04: Uh hopefully he can do enough to you know boost up his his his stat sheet, but obviously he's got a role, and I I hope we you know utilize these dudes further.
- 1:10:51SPEAKER_05: No, he's a brand guy through and through.
- 1:10:53SPEAKER_05: You you get him for your locker room, you get him to develop other guys and be that voice uh that you otherwise probably wouldn't have.
- 1:11:00SPEAKER_05: Um, next guy I want to talk about is Mason Tharp, uh, giant of a human, six foot nine, 270 pounds, um, playing football, by the way.
- 1:11:10SPEAKER_05: Uh from from Klein from Klein, Texas.
- 1:11:14SPEAKER_05: No, not basketball from Klein, Texas, uh, North Houston over there.
- 1:11:18SPEAKER_05: Shout out Logan.
- 1:11:19SPEAKER_05: Um Mason Tharp didn't have a huge again, not a huge stat line.
- 1:11:26SPEAKER_05: Caught 12 passes, 100 yards, two touchdowns last year.
- 1:11:29SPEAKER_05: He had uh injuries kind of throughout the season.
- 1:11:32SPEAKER_05: He's had a problem with concussions, which worries me.
- 1:11:35SPEAKER_05: Um, anytime any football player has multiple concussions, you start to uh to question their future.
- 1:11:41SPEAKER_05: Just football players.
- 1:11:42SPEAKER_05: Well, I mean, that's what concussions that's where it's most relevant, I think, is football.
- 1:11:47SPEAKER_05: And so don't care if you don't play football.
- 1:11:50SPEAKER_05: First and foremost, you hope this guy's healthy.
- 1:11:52SPEAKER_05: You hope he doesn't sustain uh a lot more of those in his football career.
- 1:11:57SPEAKER_05: He's got a lot of intangibles.
- 1:12:00SPEAKER_05: Obviously, six foot nine is a hell of a target for the red zone.
- 1:12:04SPEAKER_05: Um, but the most passes he caught in a game last year were three.
- 1:12:09SPEAKER_05: Um it, you know, it's he caught a couple touchdowns.
- 1:12:12SPEAKER_05: It wasn't um it wasn't insane for Mason Thorpe.
- 1:12:17SPEAKER_05: So, you know, we'll see how it goes with him next year.
- 1:12:21SPEAKER_05: Um, I think his whole thing, his whole question is health and if he can stay on the field and uh be present in the offense.
- 1:12:30SPEAKER_04: Yeah, um, it it kind of just it goes goes back to what I said, you know, with the it's just we're gonna be working them into hopefully working them more into it because you got some insanely talented guys in this room, and as you know, as they age, hopefully they develop more so.
- 1:12:43SPEAKER_04: Um, and hopefully you got a big a bigger skull.
- 1:12:46SPEAKER_04: Protect that brain of his.
- 1:12:47SPEAKER_05: He's got a massive head.
- 1:12:49SPEAKER_05: That guy might have the biggest head on the team.
- 1:12:51SPEAKER_05: Then why are all these concussions happening?
- 1:12:53SPEAKER_05: Because it's a big target.
- 1:12:56SPEAKER_05: It's a big target.
- 1:12:57SPEAKER_05: You have a massive head, you're gonna get hit in the head.
- 1:12:59SPEAKER_05: It's gonna happen.
- 1:13:00SPEAKER_05: Um, no, uh hoping Mason has a good uh good season next year.
- 1:13:04SPEAKER_05: Um, he made he made a couple catches last year that were super athletic.
- 1:13:08SPEAKER_05: There was one where Donovan Smith, I don't know if this was the UT or the Houston game.
- 1:13:12SPEAKER_05: It was one of those two where in the red zone, Donovan Smith just throws a it was a terrible pass.
- 1:13:18SPEAKER_05: Yep, it was a terrible pass.
- 1:13:19SPEAKER_05: It was behind him, and Mason Thorpe managed to you know do a little twist and catch into the into the end zone.
- 1:13:25SPEAKER_05: It was it was really cool to see.
- 1:13:26SPEAKER_05: That kind of shows you what he can't do.
- 1:13:29SPEAKER_05: Uh I think it was, I think you're right.
- 1:13:30SPEAKER_05: It was U of H.
- 1:13:32SPEAKER_05: But um yeah, six foot nine.
- 1:13:33SPEAKER_05: Again, you lob it up.
- 1:13:35SPEAKER_05: Six foot nine, by the way.
- 1:13:36SPEAKER_05: Throw it throw it to the big guy, throw it, throw it to the tight ends.
- 1:13:39SPEAKER_05: Let's see that.
- 1:13:40SPEAKER_05: Um last guy I want to touch on is Baylor Cup.
- 1:13:44SPEAKER_05: Um, again, going into his, I believe, super senior year.
- 1:13:48SPEAKER_05: Um, he's also huge, six foot six, 260 pounds.
- 1:13:53SPEAKER_05: Um from Brock, Texas.
- 1:13:56SPEAKER_05: I don't know where that is, but formerly Texas AM committed there, had a multitude of injuries at AM, decided to transfer to Texas Tech, had a solid season last year.
- 1:14:06SPEAKER_05: I mean, 12 catches, 132 yards, two touchdowns.
- 1:14:10SPEAKER_05: Um came up big in that UT game where he had 65, uh, 65 receiving yards and a touchdown.
- 1:14:18SPEAKER_05: But Baylor Cup, if you're looking at the tight ends, is going to be the guy to look at in the passing game.
- 1:14:26SPEAKER_05: He will be involved in the blocking game, as will all these tight ends, but Baylor Cup might be poised for a pretty big year.
- 1:14:34SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 1:14:34SPEAKER_04: Um, and the thing about think about Baylor Cup.
- 1:14:37SPEAKER_04: All right, so you're you're you're transferring in for Mayon.
- 1:14:39SPEAKER_06: Yep.
- 1:14:40SPEAKER_04: You need to follow that Tyree Wilson path and go on and be goaded.
- 1:14:46SPEAKER_04: Okay.
- 1:14:46SPEAKER_04: So here's your road to be goaded and be a red raider, damn it.
- 1:14:50SPEAKER_04: And this is go this go correctly.
- 1:14:53SPEAKER_05: This is exactly what Tyree's doing.
- 1:14:54SPEAKER_05: He had one year where he played a little bit, he you know, made some plays, you saw kind of what he can be, and then this year, the final year at Texas Tech, you go and just blow the freaking doors off.
- 1:15:06SPEAKER_05: You go and get drafted top 10.
- 1:15:08SPEAKER_05: That's top 10 pick in the NFL draft.
- 1:15:12SPEAKER_04: That's pretty much what is confirmed right now.
- 1:15:15SPEAKER_05: Yes.
- 1:15:16SPEAKER_05: Uh Baylor Cup will be the most involved in the receiving game.
- 1:15:19SPEAKER_05: Uh, he's got he's the quickest.
- 1:15:21SPEAKER_05: Uh, he's I think he's got the best hands of all these receivers, or all these tight ends, I should say.
- 1:15:26SPEAKER_05: Um, and he's he's a massive target.
- 1:15:28SPEAKER_05: He's six foot six.
- 1:15:29SPEAKER_05: So I'm sorry, that's not six nine.
- 1:15:31SPEAKER_05: He's not six nine.
- 1:15:32SPEAKER_05: Yeah, I know.
- 1:15:33SPEAKER_05: A little bit, you know, he can't he can't quite dunk as easily.
- 1:15:36SPEAKER_05: We got a Jason Brand on our hands.
- 1:15:38SPEAKER_05: Yeah, really.
- 1:15:42SPEAKER_05: No, but you have three three returning tight ends um in an in a system that they're familiar with.
- 1:15:48SPEAKER_05: It's gonna be good.
- 1:15:49SPEAKER_05: I'm I'm very happy with this tight end class.
- 1:15:51SPEAKER_04: No, absolutely, me too, man.
- 1:15:53SPEAKER_04: And and I really want to see them a little more involved.
- 1:15:55SPEAKER_04: We like I remember like this time last year, we were going crazy over this tight end room because it's it's awesome.
- 1:16:01SPEAKER_04: It's awesome.
- 1:16:02SPEAKER_04: And I do hope we start seeing them a little more in the past game.
- 1:16:05SPEAKER_04: Obviously, Zach Kitley knows a thing or two more than both of us, so it's more points.
- 1:16:10SPEAKER_04: So, um, but at the end of the day, I do want to see these guys going nuts.
- 1:16:13SPEAKER_04: Um, because obviously Cooper Cup has to uh Baylor Cup.
- 1:16:16SPEAKER_04: I'm seeing, I mean not Cooper Cup.
- 1:16:17SPEAKER_05: Hey, I I hope he's Cooper Cup.
- 1:16:19SPEAKER_05: That'd be freaking awesome.
- 1:16:22SPEAKER_04: I hope Baylor Cup is a top 10 draft pick, IMO.
- 1:16:26SPEAKER_04: But it's it's it's gonna be it's gonna be a fun, uh, fun group to look at, man.
- 1:16:31SPEAKER_04: I mean, our receiving core on every position is always legitimate.
- 1:16:34SPEAKER_04: So I'm obviously excited about it.
- 1:16:37SPEAKER_05: Yep, absolutely an underrated position in football.
- 1:16:40SPEAKER_05: Um, all right, what else?
- 1:16:42SPEAKER_05: What else you want to talk about?
- 1:16:48SPEAKER_05: Song of the week.
- 1:16:50SPEAKER_05: We've talked about realignment enough.
- 1:16:52SPEAKER_05: We'll be back next week to talk about um probably the wide receivers.
- 1:16:56SPEAKER_05: I think that'll be a good one to go into next.
- 1:16:59SPEAKER_05: Um, Tristan, what is your song of the week?
- 1:17:03SPEAKER_05: All right, my song of the week.
- 1:17:04SPEAKER_04: It's gonna be sad boys.
- 1:17:05SPEAKER_04: Okay.
- 1:17:06SPEAKER_04: Wow.
- 1:17:06SPEAKER_04: I know.
- 1:17:06SPEAKER_04: I'm this is a fun week.
- 1:17:08SPEAKER_04: It's a very fun week.
- 1:17:10SPEAKER_04: I I know that, but it's it's just you, you and I, we love covers, sir.
- 1:17:16SPEAKER_04: We love covers.
- 1:17:18SPEAKER_04: And I guess I could say this is kind of a uh a homage to the pack four here.
- 1:17:22SPEAKER_04: You know, thank you for your sacrifice for us here.
- 1:17:24SPEAKER_04: And uh, we're about to go nuts over in the in the in the heartland, but I'm gonna go with a crowd favorite, what I think is legitimately one of the best country songs of all time.
- 1:17:33SPEAKER_04: That's whiskey lullaby.
- 1:17:34SPEAKER_04: Oh I'm gonna go with whiskey lullaby, Caitlin Butts in Flatland Calvary, Clet of Cordero, lead singer.
- 1:17:41SPEAKER_04: Um, this is the best I've ever heard heard Catelyn, uh Caitlin sing.
- 1:17:44SPEAKER_04: She's her voice is amazing in this, and I think it's a very fantastic cover.
- 1:17:48SPEAKER_04: I mean, it's hard to beat.
- 1:17:49SPEAKER_04: Um crap.
- 1:17:51SPEAKER_04: Why am I blanking?
- 1:17:52SPEAKER_05: Allison Krauss.
- 1:17:53SPEAKER_04: Thank you, Alison Krause.
- 1:17:54SPEAKER_04: But she's she comes pretty close.
- 1:17:56SPEAKER_04: It's it's very good.
- 1:17:57SPEAKER_04: But I'm gonna go with the whiskey low bye with the with the uh the power couple that is Clara Cleta Cordero and Caitlin Butts.
- 1:18:20SPEAKER_05: Um, yeah, I listened to this one.
- 1:18:22SPEAKER_05: It's it's a good it's a good homage to the original song.
- 1:18:26SPEAKER_05: It I think they both do a really good job, they both have great voices.
- 1:18:29SPEAKER_05: Um uh what's her name?
- 1:18:32SPEAKER_05: Caitlin Butts doesn't quite sell the suicide as much as uh Allison Cross does in what is what is the saddest song in country music?
- 1:18:43SPEAKER_05: Let's be real here.
- 1:18:44SPEAKER_05: Uh you are really bringing down the vibes right now with uh saddest, but literally one of the best.
- 1:18:52SPEAKER_05: It is, it's a great, it's a really good song.
- 1:18:55SPEAKER_05: It's a uh it's a it's sad.
- 1:18:58SPEAKER_05: It's uh wow, the whole thing.
- 1:18:59SPEAKER_04: Please tell me you have a counterpart.
- 1:19:03SPEAKER_05: I have I have something that's like the opposite of what you did.
- 1:19:06SPEAKER_05: Thank God, thank God.
- 1:19:09SPEAKER_05: It's uh uh Travis Scott just came out with a new album.

- 1:19:22SPEAKER_05: Um, but I did listen to the first half of it kind of the last couple days, and Modern Jam.
- 1:19:28SPEAKER_05: That's the name of the song, all caps, because of course, uh featuring a guy who I've never heard of before, but his name is funny.
- 1:19:37SPEAKER_05: Tizo Touchdown, um, is who is featured on this song.
- 1:19:41SPEAKER_05: Uh it's just it's fun, it's a bop, dude.
- 1:19:45SPEAKER_05: Like this the the beat itself is why I'm doing this.
- 1:19:49SPEAKER_05: I I could care less about the lyrics at this point, but this beat is just you just bop into it.
