Latest / Inside the Birds: A Philadelphia Eagles Podcast / ITB: How Do Fred Johnson, Eli Moore Fit New Eagles Offensive Scheme?
Transcript
- 0:09Speaker 1: Inside the Birds is back. What's going on. Everybody is
- 0:15Speaker 1: Jeff Mosher, it's Adam Kaplan, it's inside the Birds, and
- 0:18Speaker 1: the Eagles continue Adam to add to the roster in
- 0:21Speaker 1: the way that is very predictable. One year signings veterans,
- 0:26Speaker 1: guys who aren't going to hurt them too much in
- 0:27Speaker 1: the compic formula, but guys who are going to help
- 0:31Speaker 1: them in the depth area. As we think as the
- 0:35Speaker 1: Eagles bring in or bring back I should say Fred Johnson,
- 0:38Speaker 1: the offensive tackle who they who's been with them for
- 0:40Speaker 1: two years. Now, we'll get into the interesting thing on
- 0:43Speaker 1: that you've heard me talking about body type. So we'll
- 0:45Speaker 1: have that discussion there with offensive linemen. And then they
- 0:48Speaker 1: also sign wide receiver Elijah Moore, interesting guy to add
- 0:54Speaker 1: to the group. There after they've also signed Marquise Brown,
- 0:58Speaker 1: and so you look at the wide receiver pick sure,
- 1:00Speaker 1: and you try to figure out where all the pieces are.
- 1:02Speaker 2: Going to go.
- 1:03Speaker 1: But these are depth signings, and we we've talked about
- 1:04Speaker 1: how much they needed depth at him.
- 1:07Speaker 2: Yeah, so they didn't have a swing tackle.
- 1:08Speaker 3: Now they have one of Fred Johnson, who filled in
- 1:10Speaker 3: for Lane Johnson obviously last year, did a good job
- 1:13Speaker 3: he can play right or left tackle. That solves that issue.
- 1:16Speaker 3: And they'll see about how Miles hitting could contribute in
- 1:20Speaker 3: the off season. Now he's got a full off season.
- 1:23Speaker 3: He wasn't ready last season. Let's let's see what happens.
- 1:26Speaker 3: And then you got Cam Williams who had some interesting
- 1:29Speaker 3: tape against Washington. They'll let him to develop that. It
- 1:34Speaker 3: helps them give these guys time. That's the key about
- 1:38Speaker 3: bringing back Fred Johnson. Now I know we also now
- 1:39Speaker 3: get an answer whether Chris Cooper fit thinks he could
- 1:44Speaker 3: they could fit, like, whether could Fred Johnson could fit
- 1:46Speaker 3: in the scheme because it's going to change and body
- 1:49Speaker 3: types as you mentioned. Now we got our answer. We
- 1:51Speaker 3: know that they think Fredd Johnson could fit. That's actually
- 1:53Speaker 3: a big that's a big plus.
- 1:54Speaker 1: Well, can I can I just throw in We think
- 1:57Speaker 1: they they're there's just not a lot of great offensive tackles.
- 2:01Speaker 1: We went through this list recently. You know there's a
- 2:05Speaker 1: justin school who played for the Vikings last year, so
- 2:08Speaker 1: he knows Cooper's system right. And there's a couple other guys.
- 2:11Speaker 1: But Fred Johnson's got some decent talent. They've they've been
- 2:14Speaker 1: able to win games. I mean I guess as we
- 2:17Speaker 1: sit here today, he is the swing tackle and they
- 2:19Speaker 1: have not upgraded over him. But I do do have
- 2:22Speaker 1: questions on whether or not what his strengths are are
- 2:25Speaker 1: going to be good in this offensive scheme. Assuming again,
- 2:29Speaker 1: you know, they can always change based on their personnel.
- 2:32Speaker 1: But if they want to do some outside's own stuff,
- 2:35Speaker 1: he's not the guy that you would envision as being
- 2:37Speaker 1: the best for that.
- 2:39Speaker 2: Well Justin's school.
- 2:40Speaker 3: By the way, he started his career with the Niners. Yeah,
- 2:43Speaker 3: he's been in the West Coast system, and then he
- 2:45Speaker 3: was with the Vikings last last season.
- 2:48Speaker 1: Yep.
- 2:49Speaker 3: So that's on your point. I get that, But they're
- 2:53Speaker 3: not bringing back Fred Johnson lest the offensive line coach
- 2:56Speaker 3: thinks he could he'll fit now, is Fred Johnson?
- 3:00Speaker 2: You're you're You're not truly gonna.
- 3:01Speaker 3: Know until he gets out there mm hmm in OTAs
- 3:04Speaker 3: and in training camp in the preseason.
- 3:07Speaker 2: Yeah, but that that's something that they just have to get.
- 3:10Speaker 1: Through, right, Like they might go ahead, good, I'm.
- 3:13Speaker 3: Just saying, clearly, the offensive line coach a new one,
- 3:16Speaker 3: Chris Cooper thinks he can do it, or they wouldn't
- 3:17Speaker 3: do this.
- 3:18Speaker 1: Sure, sure, uh And by the way, he was with
- 3:20Speaker 1: Jacksonville last year, uh in training camp, so that that
- 3:26Speaker 1: that Liam Cohen offense is an offshoot of the offense.
- 3:29Speaker 1: But they didn't think he was good enough to be
- 3:31Speaker 1: on the team. He would have been a backup, and
- 3:33Speaker 1: then they traded him to the Eagles. It's fine. So yeah, again,
- 3:37Speaker 1: I'm sure Chris Cooper's like, yeah, I'll take guys who
- 3:40Speaker 1: can play because they in this league. I mean, he
- 3:43Speaker 1: just came from Minnesota. He just he found out what
- 3:45Speaker 1: it's like when you don't even have guys that can
- 3:47Speaker 1: that can start, let alone play. But I guess this
- 3:51Speaker 1: has been what one situation we'll look for where we'll
- 3:54Speaker 1: see how it goes with him in OTAs and training
- 3:56Speaker 1: camp and may be a thing where come mid camp,
- 3:59Speaker 1: he and Howie and the offensive staff meet and said,
- 4:01Speaker 1: we need to get guys that really fit what we
- 4:03Speaker 1: want to do a little bit more. But that's.
- 4:08Speaker 3: Yeah, Fred, I totally I thought this might have been
- 4:11Speaker 3: the case, but I forgot about it. Fred Johnson, I
- 4:13Speaker 3: thought I knew he's at the Bengals, but I needed
- 4:15Speaker 3: to make sure Zach Taylor is the head coach. He was,
- 4:18Speaker 3: so there's more of a case you could say he's
- 4:22Speaker 3: been in the West Coast offense, but mh. They also
- 4:25Speaker 3: moved on from him. He's with the Bucks in twenty two,
- 4:28Speaker 3: then the Eagles for three years, which is Sirianni is
- 4:31Speaker 3: really not a West Coast guy, right. Then you mentioned
- 4:34Speaker 3: what Fred was with the Jaguars for a short time,
- 4:38Speaker 3: which is Liam Cohen. That's West Coast. You know where
- 4:41Speaker 3: Liam Cohen's come from. We've talked about that before with McVeigh.
- 4:44Speaker 3: So yeah, he would fit. But he's a tall guy.
- 4:49Speaker 3: And then you have to ask yourself why does he
- 4:50Speaker 3: keep moving on? He's been with a number of teams.
- 4:52Speaker 3: Started his career with the Steelers as an undrected free agent,
- 4:55Speaker 3: but he has played in this offense as he again,
- 5:00Speaker 3: Chris Cooper wanted him back. But it's a fair point
- 5:02Speaker 3: to bring up. Ultimately, is he a better fit than
- 5:06Speaker 3: some other guys who might fit?
- 5:08Speaker 1: Right?
- 5:09Speaker 3: He now is a swing tackles. Now you mentioned Frank
- 5:13Speaker 3: getting Fred Johnson back. They traded for him. They got
- 5:15Speaker 3: him from Jacksonville. If they get to training camp and
- 5:18Speaker 3: they're not happy with them, then that's when you look
- 5:20Speaker 3: at the trademarket.
- 5:21Speaker 2: You see who's still out.
- 5:22Speaker 1: There, right, right. So yeah, again, and in case anybody's
- 5:27Speaker 1: misinterpreting me, I'm not saying he can't fit the offenser's bat.
- 5:30Speaker 1: I'm just questioning whether he will. But it is absolutely
- 5:33Speaker 1: a good idea to bring back a guy who has
- 5:36Speaker 1: given you good reps as a backup swing tackle, and
- 5:39Speaker 1: especially when you look at the current situation here and
- 5:43Speaker 1: you're basically your other answers at that spot would be
- 5:47Speaker 1: the kids they drafted last year. Miles hinting Cameron Williams.
- 5:52Speaker 1: You know, Holland Pearce was an undrafted fridge and he
- 5:54Speaker 1: didn't get on the field at all for them and
- 5:56Speaker 1: outside of the preseason. So that's what you're competing against.
- 6:00Speaker 1: Your friend, Johntson freend Jants is clearly better than any
- 6:02Speaker 1: of them right now.
- 6:03Speaker 3: Yeah, did a good job. Look, he's a solid backup tackle.
- 6:08Speaker 3: I said backup. I didn't say starter. It's a different
- 6:10Speaker 3: story if you put together, if you ask thirty two teams,
- 6:15Speaker 3: give me your list of backup tackles, he's in your
- 6:17Speaker 3: top ten easily. But he's just not a starting player. Yeah,
- 6:21Speaker 3: there's the reason why guys are starters and guys are backups.
- 6:24Speaker 3: He's well traveled, he could play left or right now.
- 6:27Speaker 3: When he first got with the Eagles, I wouldn't have
- 6:29Speaker 3: said that, but being developed by Stoutlan and Fred has
- 6:33Speaker 3: talked about it in the state of mind he was
- 6:36Speaker 3: when he got there and then when he accepted the
- 6:38Speaker 3: coaching from Stout and how he developed. And it's really
- 6:41Speaker 3: a great interview on the egles on You could probably
- 6:43Speaker 3: see it on YouTube if you can still find it.
- 6:45Speaker 3: It's a great, wonderful interview. It's really good. I just
- 6:48Speaker 3: talked about how much Stout meant him. Of course that's
- 6:50Speaker 3: not here anymore though, right, and that's kind of where
- 6:53Speaker 3: you're alluding to. Okay, different coach.
- 6:56Speaker 2: Right, systems different.
- 6:57Speaker 3: I know he's been in West Coast, but does he
- 6:59Speaker 3: truly fit Cooper thinks he does.
- 7:02Speaker 2: But we have to see there it is.
- 7:05Speaker 1: And I wouldn't be surprised if the Eagles are not,
- 7:07Speaker 1: you know, are I would I would not be surprised
- 7:10Speaker 1: if they continue to address offensive line because you know,
- 7:13Speaker 1: they lost Brett Toath as well. Uh, they don't really
- 7:16Speaker 1: have as much depth on the interior. So last year
- 7:20Speaker 1: they brought in if you think about it, they had
- 7:23Speaker 1: Kendall Lamb and they had Toath and then they also
- 7:27Speaker 1: brought they signed Matt Pryor right and brought back Fred Johnson.
- 7:32Speaker 1: So they were really trying to give themselves good quality
- 7:36Speaker 1: veteran depth. Some work, some didn't.
- 7:37Speaker 3: The map problem, but right, and then they then they
- 7:40Speaker 3: traded no Fred, I'm sorry, So Fred signed with Jacksonville?
- 7:44Speaker 2: Correct? Did he sign with Jacksonville? First?
- 7:46Speaker 1: He did sign with Jacksonville.
- 7:47Speaker 2: First they reacquired with Kenna Lamb.
- 7:50Speaker 3: I don't know what happened, did he he he woud
- 7:51Speaker 3: up being with the Dolphins. But he he didn't retire
- 7:54Speaker 3: like it didn't work out here, didn't.
- 7:55Speaker 2: He just didn't. It didn't look right. He didn't didn't perform.
- 7:58Speaker 1: He was coming up the back, he was coming off
- 8:01Speaker 1: a but.
- 8:02Speaker 2: The reporting out there seemed like he was going to retire.
- 8:04Speaker 2: He didn't retire. He went to the Dolphins.
- 8:05Speaker 1: Yep. It was very weird.
- 8:09Speaker 3: And how he got that, how he got Fred back,
- 8:11Speaker 3: it's one of the situations. If they didn't get Fred back, wow,
- 8:15Speaker 3: remember he failed it for Lane Yep. I don't know
- 8:17Speaker 3: what the hell they would have done.
- 8:19Speaker 1: No, And then remember they traded Darien Canard to the
- 8:21Speaker 1: Packers after they made all these moves they had access
- 8:24Speaker 1: they they felt just.
- 8:26Speaker 2: Re signed with the Packers.
- 8:27Speaker 1: Yeah exactly, Yeah, yeah, be interesting because in retrospect, who
- 8:32Speaker 1: would have been better for them, Matt Pryor or Darren Canard?
- 8:34Speaker 2: Very interesting Darren Canard?
- 8:36Speaker 1: Well, I agree, because Matt didn't play well when he
- 8:38Speaker 1: was at That's.
- 8:39Speaker 2: See, we we we have it.
- 8:41Speaker 3: We have the answers to the test because we haven't
- 8:43Speaker 3: because the results happened. And Canard is a right tackle
- 8:47Speaker 3: guard prior to eight tackle right tackle guard, and despite
- 8:54Speaker 3: all the games he had started his career, boy, he
- 8:56Speaker 3: just kind of fell off.
- 8:58Speaker 1: Yeah yeah, he did by end up signing with Arizona,
- 9:01Speaker 1: but you know he has to make it out there first.
- 9:03Speaker 1: We'll say. Yeah, I kind of like Canard. I thought
- 9:05Speaker 1: he was going to stick around, and you're right. The
- 9:06Speaker 1: Packers recently, the Packers played him because they had injuries
- 9:10Speaker 1: last year on the offensive line. They also played him
- 9:12Speaker 1: in a jumbo package, just like the Eagles were doing
- 9:15Speaker 1: at one point with Fred before Lane Johnson got hurt.
- 9:17Speaker 1: Remember the Eagles were showcasing their own jumbo Well, the
- 9:20Speaker 1: Packers were doing that at one point, using Canard as
- 9:23Speaker 1: an extra offensive lineman. So they clearly liked what he
- 9:25Speaker 1: was giving them from that, but then he had to
- 9:28Speaker 1: play a few games and then somebody got I guess
- 9:31Speaker 1: I forget who got hurt, but they had they had all.
- 9:33Speaker 1: They're always banged up on the offensive line.
- 9:35Speaker 2: The Packers.
- 9:36Speaker 3: So one year, two point seventy five million with the
- 9:40Speaker 3: Packers are guaranteed one million, all right, one year but
- 9:45Speaker 3: a decent coin.
- 9:46Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, definitely. So that's the situation with the Eagles
- 9:50Speaker 1: offensive line. They finally have the swing offensive tackle with
- 9:53Speaker 1: Fred Johnson. We will expect them to add more they can.
- 9:56Speaker 1: I mean, I think you and I both think depending
- 9:59Speaker 1: on what happened over here in the next two weeks
- 10:01Speaker 1: with potential trades and stuff, but this would be the draft.
- 10:05Speaker 1: If you wanted a fine lane Johnson's successor, and you
- 10:08Speaker 1: were willing to use a first round pick on a
- 10:10Speaker 1: player who might not play right away, and the Eagles
- 10:12Speaker 1: are usually willing to do that, this could be a
- 10:14Speaker 1: draft where you do draft and offensive tackle pretty early
- 10:18Speaker 1: to find Johnson's success I.
- 10:20Speaker 2: Mean, yeah, it's you never want to force it. I'm
- 10:22Speaker 2: just telling you. When they force it.
- 10:24Speaker 3: In twenty nineteen, they missed badly right with Andrew Dillard,
- 10:29Speaker 3: But yes, it could be that. It absolutely you don't
- 10:32Speaker 3: want to say it needs to be, but sooner rather
- 10:35Speaker 3: than later they have to address it. And it doesn't
- 10:37Speaker 3: have to be in the first round. You can get
- 10:38Speaker 3: tackles in second or third round. Sure, and we'll get
- 10:41Speaker 3: to that when we with our draft coverage. But yeah,
- 10:45Speaker 3: the worst things teams do is force draft picks. That's
- 10:49Speaker 3: when you you have to get this and that's what it's.
- 10:52Speaker 3: It usually doesn't wind up going well, trust me, right,
- 10:56Speaker 3: but it's quarterback tackle and that was the that was
- 11:00Speaker 3: well it was twenty nineteen was Dillard.
- 11:04Speaker 2: And remember they didn't get the red.
- 11:06Speaker 3: They didn't get to work him out, and you know
- 11:09Speaker 3: that that's and they really wanted him to be the
- 11:12Speaker 3: future left tackle. And then we're the right to have
- 11:15Speaker 3: let whatever the hell was was it Peters? Was it
- 11:17Speaker 3: replacing Peters in twenty nineteen, Yes, it was Peters, and uh,
- 11:22Speaker 3: it didn't work out. They tried him at right, remember,
- 11:24Speaker 3: and he didn't. It didn't go well.
- 11:26Speaker 2: I remember what was that line that he had.
- 11:29Speaker 1: It's like writing with your left hand if your right hand.
- 11:32Speaker 3: That was classic line. And then you know he caught
- 11:35Speaker 3: he made it for a little bit, and it was
- 11:36Speaker 3: with the Packers before. But yeah, he just but what
- 11:39Speaker 3: we're trying to tell you is don't force it.
- 11:41Speaker 1: Yeah. My most vivid memories of Andre Dillard, nice guy
- 11:44Speaker 1: by the way, was just getting owned by Josh Sweat
- 11:49Speaker 1: over and over in training camp, like on his back,
- 11:51Speaker 1: putting on getting.
- 11:52Speaker 3: I remember us, okay, I remember us talking about that
- 11:55Speaker 3: story because we were we were doing our show then
- 11:58Speaker 3: and uh and it was very early in Joshuwatz's career,
- 12:02Speaker 3: but you could see something with Josh Sweat, Yeah, you absolutely.
- 12:04Speaker 2: Yeah. And Peters, remember Peters was still there and they drafted.
- 12:08Speaker 3: Yeah, Peters was still their left Tackleip Dillard was their
- 12:11Speaker 3: first round pick at twenty nineteen. It was Kelsey say
- 12:14Speaker 3: Molo Brandon Brooks, who was phenomenal lane of course your
- 12:17Speaker 3: right tackle. The drafted the draftics just made my lotta
- 12:20Speaker 3: in twenty eighteen, and who the hell knew who'd be
- 12:23Speaker 3: their future left tackle.
- 12:24Speaker 1: Yeah. Well, you said you can get tackles in the
- 12:27Speaker 1: You don't have to get tackles in the first round.
- 12:28Speaker 1: You can get them in the second round. And I
- 12:29Speaker 1: was gonna make a joke, you can get them from
- 12:31Speaker 1: Australian rugby. I mean that's where the eagle's gotten.
- 12:36Speaker 2: Them. But anyway, that's right, I know no.
- 12:38Speaker 1: More just Allen. Hey. If you're like me, you're desensitized
- 12:42Speaker 1: to the dozens of notifications on your phone every day.

- 12:48Speaker 1: ignoring it could spell disaster. Picture this, someone's breaking into
- 12:52Speaker 1: your home, but you're giving a huge presentation at work,
- 12:54Speaker 1: or you're at the movies, or you're thirty thousand feet
- 12:57Speaker 1: in the sky on a flight. You'll see the footage
- 12:59Speaker 1: in a couple hours, but by then it's too late.

- 14:56Speaker 1: made for Philly fans twenty one and up. All right,
- 14:59Speaker 1: so let's move the conversation to wide receiver, where Elijah
- 15:03Speaker 1: Mitchell now joins the team. I'm sorry, Elijah Moore. Yeah,
- 15:08Speaker 1: what was there any like Mitchell?
- 15:09Speaker 2: He had Elijah Mitchell. They did the running back.
- 15:11Speaker 1: Yeah, that's right. Elijah Moore run is with the team
- 15:15Speaker 1: on a one year deal. That would be an interesting one.
- 15:17Speaker 1: I mean, he's bounced around, had a really good rookie year.
- 15:20Speaker 1: I recall that he is where you went to old
- 15:22Speaker 1: miss right.
- 15:24Speaker 3: He Okay, I had to tell you what I'm gonna
- 15:30Speaker 3: tell you. I was a major, major fan of Elijah Moore.
- 15:34Speaker 1: I was too.
- 15:35Speaker 3: He was so good his rookie season. I'd have to
- 15:39Speaker 3: go back with the Jets. He was the second pick
- 15:40Speaker 3: of Joe Douglass with the Eagles.
- 15:42Speaker 1: You see the pattern here, another Joe. This guy okay,
- 15:45Speaker 1: and then.
- 15:47Speaker 2: He wasn't happy.
- 15:49Speaker 3: He went up trading to the Browns, and it just
- 15:51Speaker 3: it just kind of it just kind of got away
- 15:54Speaker 3: from him. It's not like he's thirty five years old.
- 15:56Speaker 3: I mean, there's there's talent here. He could play a
- 16:00Speaker 3: slot if you want him to get He's a z
- 16:02Speaker 3: where you could play slot.
- 16:03Speaker 2: He's a movement receiver, or you could play inside.
- 16:06Speaker 3: Right and there, you'd been asking for a slot receiver
- 16:09Speaker 3: for the longest time.
- 16:09Speaker 2: He can do that.
- 16:10Speaker 3: No, he he can do that legitimately. It's not like
- 16:13Speaker 3: it's being forced, you know. It's not like some guy
- 16:15Speaker 3: like Lot standing inside.
- 16:17Speaker 2: No, he can. He can do this right.
- 16:19Speaker 1: I mean he's five foot nine. He has slot written
- 16:21Speaker 1: all over him. I know he has played the outside,
- 16:23Speaker 1: but it's hard in this league to be five to
- 16:25Speaker 1: nine and win on the outside. To me, he's like,
- 16:28Speaker 1: you want to put him in the slot is more
- 16:30Speaker 1: often than not. That's that's a really good spot for him.
- 16:33Speaker 1: He played it, by the way. By the way he
- 16:35Speaker 1: played it Old Miss from twenty eighteen to twenty twenty
- 16:39Speaker 1: and A. J. Brown was that Old Miss from twenty
- 16:42Speaker 1: sixteen to twenty eighteen. So it looks like they overlap
- 16:45Speaker 1: for one year twenty eighteen at Ole Miss.
- 16:47Speaker 2: Yeah, Yeah, it's it's it's fascinating. I know, Oh they're
- 16:50Speaker 2: gonna trade AJ now.
- 16:52Speaker 1: He's no, But I wasn't gonna make the joke. I
- 16:55Speaker 1: don't think they're gonna overlap this year though.
- 16:57Speaker 3: No, no, no, but people you know he people have
- 17:00Speaker 3: to to to read into stuff and to stuff along.
- 17:04Speaker 2: Oh just must mean something, right, it's.
- 17:07Speaker 3: A honestly, it's more I'd worry about Darris Cooper more,
- 17:13Speaker 3: particularly if if AJ is here, because we love Darius Cooper, but.
- 17:20Speaker 2: Now he can play a lot. What's that?
- 17:25Speaker 1: Would you say though, that this signing on the other
- 17:28Speaker 1: unlike some other one year signings where you know the
- 17:31Speaker 1: guy is going to make the team, right you know, Fred,
- 17:33Speaker 1: well you know that that at least uh like Greek
- 17:36Speaker 1: Woollan is going to make the team, right, you know
- 17:37Speaker 1: that Hollier Bird Brown barring something create I was gonna
- 17:40Speaker 1: make the team.
- 17:41Speaker 2: Are you he's making it? Yeah, he's making it.
- 17:43Speaker 1: Yeah, I'm I'm gonna wait to see the contract. I
- 17:46Speaker 1: don't know if we're one hundred percent sure Elijah Moore
- 17:49Speaker 1: makes the team.
- 17:50Speaker 2: It seems yeah.
- 17:53Speaker 3: Elijah Moore to me was a guy that, if you mentioned,
- 17:56Speaker 3: was phenomenal as a rookie. It kind of went over
- 18:00Speaker 3: a series of years and he made the fairest point
- 18:03Speaker 3: of all of this. He's got to prove it. But
- 18:06Speaker 3: if he he sounded like he's thirty two years old, right,
- 18:10Speaker 3: so he's young enough to turn his career around. And look,
- 18:13Speaker 3: he's bounced around. I mean he's had the one good year.
- 18:15Speaker 3: He's bounced around. Right, He's with Denver and what Buffalo
- 18:18Speaker 3: last season?
- 18:20Speaker 1: I just I guess he was with He had no stats,
- 18:23Speaker 1: but he didn't play a game with Denver. He only
- 18:25Speaker 1: played nine games with Buffalo last year. I don't know
- 18:30Speaker 1: what to make of this, because we always say listen,
- 18:33Speaker 1: the NFL tells you how it feels about a player.
- 18:36Speaker 1: This guy was on a Buffalo team that had was
- 18:38Speaker 1: basically thrown Brandon Cooks out there. I mean they had
- 18:41Speaker 1: nobody was great.
- 18:42Speaker 2: It was great.
- 18:43Speaker 1: Yeah, he did play well for them, But my point is,
- 18:44Speaker 1: you know, they don't really have a whole lot of
- 18:46Speaker 1: offensive weapons, and this guy could only get into nine
- 18:49Speaker 1: games and for catch nine passes for one hundred and
- 18:52Speaker 1: twelve yards. That's surprising to me, you know, I mean,
- 18:57Speaker 1: I look at I should be careful.
- 18:59Speaker 3: I think he had a great because he did his
- 19:00Speaker 3: most touchdowns he had was in year one with with
- 19:02Speaker 3: the Jets with five, but he looked really good. High
- 19:07Speaker 3: shorts percatch was twelve point five in his rookie season.
- 19:10Speaker 3: Right then the numbers started to dip. He goes to Cleveland,
- 19:13Speaker 3: you know, they made a trade for him, so he
- 19:14Speaker 3: played early, he didn't get the ball enough, and then
- 19:18Speaker 3: he just became a young journeyman.
- 19:19Speaker 2: He's he's actually pretty easily twenty six years old.
- 19:22Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean he wasn't hurt. I'm looking. He signed
- 19:24Speaker 1: with the Bills first one year five minutes, right, he
- 19:27Speaker 1: made nine appearances, caught, like I said, nine balls, and
- 19:30Speaker 1: then they basically they signed Brandon Crooks and then got
- 19:34Speaker 1: Cooks and then released him, waived him, and then he
- 19:38Speaker 1: signed with Denver and I don't think he played. He
- 19:41Speaker 1: was on their practice squad.
- 19:42Speaker 3: So that's how they really needed, they really needed because
- 19:45Speaker 3: Curtis Samuel was hurt. Yeah, cam Coleman was a non
- 19:48Speaker 3: factor and they really needed Lodjah Moore to step up,
- 19:52Speaker 3: somebody to step up.
- 19:53Speaker 2: And yeah, he just kind of keeps moving along. It's
- 19:55Speaker 2: not good.
- 19:56Speaker 1: So that that's sort of a signal to me, like
- 19:58Speaker 1: that we're accurate in saying you can't get guarantee this
- 20:00Speaker 1: guy is going to be on the team.
- 20:01Speaker 2: I mean, he's it.
- 20:03Speaker 3: But if if he could still play, and again he's
- 20:06Speaker 3: still very young, but if he could still play, it's
- 20:09Speaker 3: not good in terms of what Darris Cooper's role could be.
- 20:11Speaker 3: I'm not saying he won't make the team, but if
- 20:13Speaker 3: Logen Moore is back being at least a player in
- 20:16Speaker 3: the National Footballer that he deserves to be on a
- 20:18Speaker 3: team Darius Coop, it's Darris Cooper needs reps. But again,
- 20:23Speaker 3: it comes down as A J. Brown going to be
- 20:25Speaker 3: on the team. If he is, you've got here are
- 20:26Speaker 3: the guys you know are on the team.
- 20:28Speaker 1: If A J.
- 20:28Speaker 2: Brown's not traded, a J. Brown, Hollywood Brown is not
- 20:30Speaker 2: going anywhere.
- 20:31Speaker 3: He's making five million, full of guaranteed, He's not getting
- 20:33Speaker 3: cut no matter what happens. He's on the team. Davante
- 20:36Speaker 3: obviously is the top three. Elijah Moore and Cooper there's
- 20:39Speaker 3: your five. With the block and receiver Johnny Wilson there's
- 20:41Speaker 3: your six.
- 20:42Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean he still has to make it as
- 20:44Speaker 1: well and come back to.
- 20:45Speaker 2: See where he is from a physical standpoint.
- 20:47Speaker 1: Plus, I could draft the guy I mean, it'll be
- 20:49Speaker 1: good competition that that you feel better at least about
- 20:52Speaker 1: the Eagles bringing in some bodies here, especially if they
- 20:55Speaker 1: do move on from aj right about and competing. It
- 20:58Speaker 1: may not be idea open. There are bodies out there,
- 21:01Speaker 1: and there's when you're when you're as young as Eli is, right,
- 21:06Speaker 1: and you realize you you're coming off a year where
- 21:08Speaker 1: you're only caught nine balls and two teams didn't want you.
- 21:11Speaker 1: That might be a little bit of a fire. I
- 21:13Speaker 1: might like, I might waken you up. I don't know,
- 21:15Speaker 1: We'll see. I can't bank on it, but I mean
- 21:17Speaker 1: I know or me, I would feel like I got
- 21:19Speaker 1: to get my you know what together.
- 21:20Speaker 3: Right now, I'm just telling you what he was is
- 21:23Speaker 3: he was really interesting the first couple year with the Jets,
- 21:26Speaker 3: and he just went didn't seem to be happy.
- 21:29Speaker 2: It's ironical. The guy who traded him.
- 21:31Speaker 1: Look, look, look why I look at the environment.
- 21:33Speaker 3: I understand you're talking about Zach Wilson, but I find
- 21:37Speaker 3: it interesting the guy that traded him is now with
- 21:40Speaker 3: the Eagles, Joe Douglas.
- 21:41Speaker 1: So let's this is interesting, right because Michael Carter, the
- 21:46Speaker 1: second the defensive back for the Eagles, that was a
- 21:48Speaker 1: Joe Douglas guy. Yep, right, Eli Moore, Moore here as
- 21:52Speaker 1: a as a Joe Douglas guy. Wasn't there another timing
- 21:54Speaker 1: that we said was a Joe Douglas Now you.
- 21:57Speaker 2: Can't say he was. Joe is not with the Eagles,
- 22:00Speaker 2: but Mackay Beckton.
- 22:02Speaker 1: No, no, no, no, no, no, no doesn't count. I thought
- 22:05Speaker 1: there was a third guy.
- 22:07Speaker 3: But as I look at it now, Jet Michael Carter,
- 22:14Speaker 3: Michael Carter, Folks, why I don't know who the third
- 22:17Speaker 3: guy would be?
- 22:18Speaker 1: Okay, maybe it's just because I've been joking with you
- 22:21Speaker 1: that any minute now the Eagles are going to sign
- 22:23Speaker 1: Ashton Davis to a Uh.
- 22:24Speaker 2: Oh you've been talking. You've been talking about as you've
- 22:27Speaker 2: been talking.
- 22:27Speaker 1: Yeah, so maybe that would be the third guy if
- 22:29Speaker 1: it happens. Yep, yep, all right. So Eagles continue to
- 22:36Speaker 1: do their work, they continue to add depth, and uh
- 22:39Speaker 1: that is interesting. And now I'm trying to think, like
- 22:43Speaker 1: in my head, I got like this rotation, like who's left?
- 22:45Speaker 1: You know, because we we constantly when we went through
- 22:47Speaker 1: free agent wide receivers, I'm not sure we mentioned you.
- 22:51Speaker 1: He was so down the list because of his last
- 22:53Speaker 1: year being so awful.
- 22:55Speaker 2: I don't think he did.
- 22:57Speaker 3: Was he here's a question, uh huh, I don't have him.
- 23:01Speaker 2: Who was the last team he was with.
- 23:04Speaker 1: Denver was Denver? It was Denver's practice squad.
- 23:08Speaker 3: Okay, so they didn't bring him back. So he was
- 23:09Speaker 3: actually a street free agent. That's why he was not
- 23:11Speaker 3: on our list.
- 23:12Speaker 1: There you go, street free agent, no compic formula. Worry
- 23:15Speaker 1: on that.
- 23:16Speaker 2: Yep. Yeah, wow, I'm glad we actually mentioned that. Yeah, because.
- 23:22Speaker 3: Really, all right, he's a young guy, he's getting he's
- 23:26Speaker 3: getting another chance and Eagles could use the death in competition.
- 23:29Speaker 2: And he is inside out. He's not a he's not
- 23:31Speaker 2: an ex. He's a is a Z or slot. He
- 23:34Speaker 2: is a move receiver X is here. He is a
- 23:37Speaker 2: guy in motion.
- 23:38Speaker 1: Yep.
- 23:39Speaker 3: And he also because he could play inside. He's a
- 23:42Speaker 3: guy you could play inside like he truly could play inside.
- 23:44Speaker 2: And absolutely I am I like this signing. I don't
- 23:48Speaker 2: know if he's got anything left.
- 23:49Speaker 3: I mean, I know he's very young, but we also
- 23:51Speaker 3: like the tight end who came in from Cleveland. He
- 23:53Speaker 3: was drived by Cleveland. He's now with Houston. It was
- 23:58Speaker 3: with the Raiders. How and Bryant.
- 24:01Speaker 1: Oh yeah, yeah, yeah, you're right. Sometimes you kind of
- 24:04Speaker 1: like the signing and it doesn't work out.
- 24:06Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, we'll see, we'll see what this guy looks like.
- 24:09Speaker 1: Yeah, it's funny though, because if they do trade AJ Brown,
- 24:11Speaker 1: you're talking about all of a sudden, your your your
- 24:14Speaker 1: overall quote unquote size at wide receiver, especially among guys
- 24:18Speaker 1: you're going to play. I meant Hollywood Brown is small,
- 24:21Speaker 1: DeVante Smith is well, you know, we know he's slim reaper.
- 24:24Speaker 1: He plays big, so that's good. But but you know,
- 24:26Speaker 1: you know, he's still very He's one hundred and seventy pounds,
- 24:29Speaker 1: so he's not a big.
- 24:31Speaker 2: Yeah, now, game, we got the draft though, Let's see
- 24:33Speaker 2: what happens.
- 24:34Speaker 1: Right right, And then of course Elijah Moore himself is
- 24:36Speaker 1: about one hundred and eighty pounds, so yeah, you're pretty
- 24:39Speaker 1: small and if you wind up moving on from AJ Brown.
- 24:42Speaker 1: But yeah, two important additions, two guys that will be
- 24:46Speaker 1: talking about throughout OTAs and of course camp and we'll
- 24:49Speaker 1: see how they both fit into with Fred the offense
- 24:53Speaker 1: blocking scheme, and with with Elijah, how he fits into
- 24:55Speaker 1: the passing game and if he's got any juice left.
- 24:58Speaker 1: So good stuff there, and of course, any more signings
- 25:01Speaker 1: by the Eagles will be on top of it. That's
- 25:03Speaker 1: gonna do it. For this episode of Inside the Birds,
