- 0:01Speaker 1: Hey, Discos, need a little more disgrace Land in your life,
- 0:05Speaker 1: just to touch to get you through. Yeah, me too.
- 0:08Speaker 1: This is the podcast that comes after the podcast. Welcome
- 0:12Speaker 1: to Disgraceland, the after Party. Welcome to the Disgraceland bonus episode,
- 0:31Speaker 1: a little thing we like to call the after party.
- 0:34Speaker 1: This is the show after the show, the party after
- 0:36Speaker 1: the party, the bridge to get you from one full
- 0:38Speaker 1: episode of Disgraceland to the other, the backyard to dig
- 0:41Speaker 1: into the dirt. On this bonus episode, we are talking
- 0:44Speaker 1: about this week's episode subject Basquiat. We are previewing the
- 0:48Speaker 1: coming Go Gos episode, talking about our upcoming slate of
- 0:52Speaker 1: new subjects, and we get into your voicemails, text DMS,
- 0:56Speaker 1: emails and as always, a whole lot of rosie. All right, Discos,
- 1:00Speaker 1: let's get into it. If I could do anything in
- 1:14Speaker 1: the world for a job, it would be this. It'd
- 1:16Speaker 1: be to get up in the morning, make a cup
- 1:18Speaker 1: of coffee, sit in my comfortable chair in my office,
- 1:21Speaker 1: my dog at my feet, put some John Coltrane on
- 1:25Speaker 1: on that turntable of mine, and just write. And that
- 1:28Speaker 1: turntable is vintage. It's nineteen sixty four, and so are
- 1:32Speaker 1: the subjects that I write about. They're vintage, and that
- 1:36Speaker 1: often means that there's a limited audience for some of
- 1:39Speaker 1: these subjects. But I'm okay with that. I don't care.
- 1:43Speaker 1: It's what I'm into and I know you guys are
- 1:45Speaker 1: gonna do it as well. I have an audience for
- 1:47Speaker 1: what I write, and this is something that any writer
- 1:51Speaker 1: would be blessed to have. I mean, it's not just
- 1:54Speaker 1: that there's an audience for Disgraceline, but I get to
- 1:56Speaker 1: come and I get to talk to you every week
- 1:58Speaker 1: here in the after party. You guys talk to me,
- 2:00Speaker 1: you call me, send me texts, talk on dms. All
- 2:03Speaker 1: that it's beyond my wildest dreams or beyond it was.
- 2:07Speaker 1: It is beyond the wildest dreams that I had as
- 2:10Speaker 1: a kid thinking about what I would do when I
- 2:12Speaker 1: grew up. And here I am. Stories that I write.
- 2:16Speaker 1: As you guys know, they're dubbed music and true crime
- 2:19Speaker 1: here in Disgraceland, but really the true crime bit it's
- 2:22Speaker 1: always been a bit of a trojan horse. Disgraceland, as
- 2:26Speaker 1: you know, is really a music history series. The hook,
- 2:30Speaker 1: I guess, if you want to call it that is
- 2:32Speaker 1: that I tell you, guys, these stories through the lens
- 2:34Speaker 1: of true crime, which makes in my estimation of these
- 2:38Speaker 1: stories more interesting not only for you, but for me too.
- 2:42Speaker 1: Like you, guys, I've always been uninterested in the conventional stories.
- 2:47Speaker 1: Not always, I should say, there was a time that
- 2:48Speaker 1: I wasn't I was interested. That was a long time ago,
- 2:52Speaker 1: because like you, I devoured the conventional stories when I
- 2:55Speaker 1: was a kid. Thankfully, with time, we've been afforded the
- 3:00Speaker 1: luxury of numerous artists, autobiographies, tell alls, documentaries, troves of
- 3:06Speaker 1: information where well sourced alternative stories have emerged. I don't
- 3:11Speaker 1: like that phrase alternative, but I don't have another another
- 3:15Speaker 1: word for it. We've talked about this a lot. I'm
- 3:18Speaker 1: not going to beat a dead horse. But there's the
- 3:20Speaker 1: sort of accepted artist narrative in most cases, and then
- 3:24Speaker 1: there's all of this other storytelling that springs up around
- 3:29Speaker 1: these artists, around the history of these artists, from the
- 3:32Speaker 1: people who knew them, sometimes from the artists themselves, and
- 3:35Speaker 1: these stories are far more interesting, and because they present
- 3:39Speaker 1: different sides of these subjects that we love, we've grown
- 3:43Speaker 1: to love at least, and as you're well aware, it
- 3:46Speaker 1: gives us a new view into the past and more dramatic,
- 3:51Speaker 1: more exciting look at music history. I tell you all
- 3:56Speaker 1: this because I'm really excited about what's coming in the
- 3:59Speaker 1: next few weeks. We're bringing you some of our best
- 4:02Speaker 1: episodes yet, new episodes from music history, unconventional stories from
- 4:07Speaker 1: music history that either have not been told yet in podcasting,
- 4:10Speaker 1: or if they have been told, I promise you that
- 4:13Speaker 1: they have not been told the way that we are
- 4:15Speaker 1: going to tell them. And that's a big thing here too.
- 4:18Speaker 1: You know, it's like we're messing with a new medium
- 4:20Speaker 1: here with podcasting. It's still new, even though it's been
- 4:23Speaker 1: around for going on two decades at this point, I think.
- 4:26Speaker 1: But we're using this new medium to tell these stories
- 4:29Speaker 1: in a different way. So, yeah, you can go on
- 4:31Speaker 1: YouTube and you can find the story of you know,
- 4:35Speaker 1: Byorick or Marilyn Manson or whomever, but you're not going
- 4:39Speaker 1: to find the story told the way that we're going
- 4:41Speaker 1: to tell you in this podcast. Okay, So the new
- 4:46Speaker 1: stories we have coming up, they either haven't been told
- 4:48Speaker 1: at all, they haven't been told in podcasting, or they
- 4:50Speaker 1: haven't told Again, I promise you they have not been
- 4:52Speaker 1: told the way that we're going to tell them. The
- 4:53Speaker 1: Disgraceland feed going forward got to be a little bit different.
- 4:58Speaker 1: The Icon series is a actually over with this most
- 5:02Speaker 1: recent Bascocht episode. Okay, from now on, all non music
- 5:06Speaker 1: subjects will be featured in their own feed. Episodes on
- 5:09Speaker 1: actors and actresses in Hollywood and true crime will only
- 5:12Speaker 1: be found in the Hollywood Land podcast feed, which if
- 5:14Speaker 1: you're not subscribed in Following Nazi chants, but back to Disgraceland,
- 5:18Speaker 1: in the coming week's news stories are going to be
- 5:21Speaker 1: about the Go Gos Okay, a band that was birthed
- 5:25Speaker 1: in the city referred to at the time as the
- 5:28Speaker 1: serial killer capital of the world. Very true Crimeing this
- 5:31Speaker 1: episode Marilyn Manson, we have an episode on Marilyn Manson
- 5:34Speaker 1: coming up. This could have been seriously five episodes. Manson
- 5:38Speaker 1: is an artist Who's what I discovered when I was
- 5:41Speaker 1: researching this the inhumanity of this guy. Okay, the inhumanity
- 5:46Speaker 1: that's the theme of this Manson episode. At times it
- 5:50Speaker 1: was not just shocking, it was incomprehensible and the most
- 5:57Speaker 1: keep we keep running into this. The most shocking part, okay,
- 6:00Speaker 1: the most shocking part about the Marilyn Manson story is
- 6:04Speaker 1: that the artist himself documented most of this inhumane behavior
- 6:10Speaker 1: in graphic detail, and we're gonna bring that to you,
- 6:13Speaker 1: and we're gonna hang it on the theme of inhumanity,
- 6:15Speaker 1: and we're gonna we're gonna merge it with the past
- 6:19Speaker 1: few years, past decade plus I guess of sexual abuse
- 6:23Speaker 1: allegations against Marilyn Manson and what came of those allegations.
- 6:29Speaker 1: Pretty incredible story. I can't wait to talk to you
- 6:31Speaker 1: guys about it. Byork this is another one. Now, this
- 6:34Speaker 1: is one where this is one of those stories where
- 6:36Speaker 1: you might hear what the story is about and you
- 6:38Speaker 1: might go, wow, I had no fucking idea that happened.
- 6:41Speaker 1: How did I miss that? Or you just as easily
- 6:44Speaker 1: might hear what this story is about and you might
- 6:46Speaker 1: say to yourself, that's old news. I've heard that before.
- 6:48Speaker 1: I know about that. I saw fourteen YouTube videos about it.
- 6:51Speaker 1: But again, you have not heard our version of it,
- 6:55Speaker 1: all right, and what we're going to do with it
- 6:57Speaker 1: in audio, and it's gonna be different. Byorke A truly
- 7:02Speaker 1: one of a kind of artists whose life and career
- 7:06Speaker 1: ran up against one of the most deranged music fans
- 7:10Speaker 1: of all time. That's coming in a couple of weeks
- 7:13Speaker 1: The Who Okay, we did an episode on the Who
- 7:15Speaker 1: back in the day, was really a Keith Moon episode.
- 7:17Speaker 1: We had to do that. Keith Moon is such a
- 7:19Speaker 1: larger than life rock and roll history character. But what
- 7:23Speaker 1: we did not do in that episode is get to
- 7:26Speaker 1: the story about the Who, a band being at the
- 7:30Speaker 1: center of one of the greatest tragedies in rock and
- 7:32Speaker 1: roll history. So we're going to do that in the
- 7:34Speaker 1: next coming weeks. Also episodes on the Replacements, Mark Lanagan, Fish,
- 7:39Speaker 1: Kendrick Lamar, The Runaways, Pentagram MIAs A Potter from the
- 7:43Speaker 1: gets Nikki six, and so many more. They are all
- 7:46Speaker 1: coming in the weeks and months ahead, and I couldn't
- 7:48Speaker 1: be more excited. A lot of those subjects that I
- 7:50Speaker 1: just read to you came from you guys directly. They
- 7:53Speaker 1: were suggested by you guys, either via email, text, voicemail,
- 7:57Speaker 1: and the Patreon chat. And we tried really over the
- 8:00Speaker 1: next few months to produce episodes that you guys have
- 8:05Speaker 1: specifically asked for, So you're gonna start to see those
- 8:08Speaker 1: rolling out. You're gonna be getting four new full episodes
- 8:12Speaker 1: of Disgraceland every month, plus the bonus after party episode
- 8:17Speaker 1: every week. As always, we're gonna be rewinding archive episodes
- 8:21Speaker 1: weekly once over the weekend. Sometimes there are two parters,
- 8:25Speaker 1: you know, if it's a two part episode, you're gonna
- 8:27Speaker 1: get you know, two of those episodes. And sometimes, you know,
- 8:30Speaker 1: as we release our new episodes, like the Nikki six one,
- 8:34Speaker 1: for example, that we get coming up, we're gonna drop
- 8:37Speaker 1: that Motley Cure episode in there next to it and
- 8:40Speaker 1: create our own new two part or I guess you
- 8:42Speaker 1: could say. So many of these artists that we've covered,
- 8:45Speaker 1: we do thirty minute episodes. As you know, there's only
- 8:48Speaker 1: so much you can get to and some of these stories,
- 8:51Speaker 1: for example, the story of Nikki six dying, that could
- 8:54Speaker 1: be its own episode in and of itself. We got
- 8:57Speaker 1: to it in the Motley Creure episode. We spent about
- 8:59Speaker 1: five hundred words on it maybe, and it just deserves more.
- 9:03Speaker 1: So we're gonna start sprinkling those types of episodes in
- 9:06Speaker 1: as we go here as well. You saw a little
- 9:08Speaker 1: bit of that over the past month with Van Halen
- 9:09Speaker 1: and Prince. Now this week, next to your feed, we're
- 9:12Speaker 1: rewinding our episode on gg Allen New listeners, You're like,
- 9:16Speaker 1: who the hell is Gigi Allen. I don't I've never
- 9:19Speaker 1: heard this name before, or maybe it sounds vaguely familiar.
- 9:24Speaker 1: If you have not heard this episode from our archive previously,
- 9:27Speaker 1: get ready, okay, it might be the most shocking episode
- 9:30Speaker 1: in our archive, quite possibly the most shocking artist in
- 9:34Speaker 1: music history. And I'm talking about all of music history,
- 9:38Speaker 1: going back to the depraved composers everything. Old listeners, give this,
- 9:42Speaker 1: give this one a new spin. All right, it's gonna
- 9:45Speaker 1: make you feel dirty. Bring some soap next week. Speaking
- 9:49Speaker 1: of dirty, you might not associate that word with the
- 9:51Speaker 1: Go Gos all Bright and Sonny and La and eighties neon. However,
- 9:57Speaker 1: that was not at the core of who this band
- 10:00Speaker 1: and was these women. In addition to being an incredible band,
- 10:03Speaker 1: they were also as debaucherous as they come. And this
- 10:06Speaker 1: story is wild. We go way beyond the documentary that
- 10:10Speaker 1: came out a couple of years ago. And I'm pretty
- 10:11Speaker 1: sure you're gonna get a fuller, wilder depiction of the
- 10:13Speaker 1: band in this upcoming episode next week, as well as
- 10:16Speaker 1: a darker look at the time and place that spawned
- 10:19Speaker 1: the group. Los Angeles in the Go Gos episode is
- 10:22Speaker 1: almost its own character in the story, The Go Gos.
- 10:26Speaker 1: They did something it's worth mentioning here in advance. They
- 10:29Speaker 1: did something that no other group of female musicians has
- 10:31Speaker 1: ever done before, and you're going to hear about it
- 10:33Speaker 1: in the episode, and that is going to prompt the
- 10:36Speaker 1: question of the week. So when you're listening to the
- 10:38Speaker 1: Go Gos episode, be asking yourself, are the Go Gos
- 10:42Speaker 1: the greatest girl group of all time? And if they
- 10:44Speaker 1: are not, then tell me who is six one seven
- 10:48Speaker 1: nine oh six six six three eight Voicemail and text
- 10:51Speaker 1: with your answers and you can be part of the show.
- 10:52Speaker 1: I'll respond in next week's after party episode with your
- 10:55Speaker 1: calls and messages as always, so lots of great content
- 10:58Speaker 1: coming your way. Guys. I'm excited to be turning this page.
- 11:02Speaker 1: Feels like we're turning a page in disgrace, and I'm
- 11:04Speaker 1: super grateful to have you with me as always, along
- 11:07Speaker 1: for the ride. Some of you have been with me
- 11:09Speaker 1: since twenty eighteen. You don't know what that means. That
- 11:12Speaker 1: is huge. Thank you. And new listeners, thank you, damn man.
- 11:17Speaker 1: It's wild to be doing this for so long, and
- 11:19Speaker 1: every single week I hear from new listeners who are
- 11:22Speaker 1: excited about this show. I appreciate you as well much gratitude.
- 11:26Speaker 1: Hang with me here for a minute. I'm back on
- 11:28Speaker 1: the other side of the break with your answers to
- 11:30Speaker 1: last week's question of the Week, your voicemails, texts, emails
- 11:34Speaker 1: and more. All right, we are back six one seven
- 11:56Speaker 1: nine oh six six six three eight. You know where
- 11:58Speaker 1: I'm at. I'm in the phone booths. It's the one
- 12:00Speaker 1: across the hall. I'm hanging on the telephone like Debbie Harry.
- 12:03Speaker 1: By the way, I still I cannot get over the
- 12:07Speaker 1: amount of people who message me and tell me that
- 12:10Speaker 1: Debbie Harry is a liar, that Debbie Harry was not
- 12:13Speaker 1: abducted by Ted Bundy as she claims. It is shocking
- 12:17Speaker 1: to me, and it is shocking to me that they
- 12:19Speaker 1: just claim that it has been it's been debunked. It
- 12:21Speaker 1: has not been debunked. Okay, you don't know what the
- 12:24Speaker 1: hell you're talking about. Define debunked. Okay. The person who
- 12:27Speaker 1: said it happened to her continues to say it happened
- 12:30Speaker 1: to her despite the weak, weak sauce evidence that it
- 12:36Speaker 1: has not. Okay. Anyways, Debbie Harry inspired this segment, Hanging
- 12:40Speaker 1: on the telephone six one, seven nine or sixty six
- 12:42Speaker 1: six three eight. Let's go to the eight one eight.
- 12:46Speaker 2: Hey, Jake, this is Keen from eight one eight. Thank
- 12:48Speaker 2: you so much for doing an episode about an artist
- 12:52Speaker 2: and not just musicians. I can't believe more people don't
- 12:57Speaker 2: know who Baskia is. He's art world famous. The public
- 13:02Speaker 2: doesn't know he is, even though he's the biggest name
- 13:05Speaker 2: for artists who had a second act Bob Dylan. I
- 13:10Speaker 2: know he's not exactly not doing music, but he's got
- 13:13Speaker 2: a lot of amazing artwork, and a lot of artists
- 13:17Speaker 2: the musicians do their own artwork. Tom York, which with
- 13:20Speaker 2: Stanley Donwood, has done all of the album covers for Radiohead.
- 13:25Speaker 2: Another guy, Nathaniel Russell, kind of underground guy, has done
- 13:28Speaker 2: a lot of posters and stuff like that. Anyway, thank
- 13:31Speaker 2: you so much, Tack care.
- 13:33Speaker 1: Ken from the eight one eight. Great great voicemail. You
- 13:35Speaker 1: encompassed a lot of the topics we've been talking about
- 13:38Speaker 1: here over the last couple of weeks. Yeah, Boscot massively
- 13:42Speaker 1: famous in the art world, culturally, very He's been very relevant,
- 13:46Speaker 1: I would say, in a different new in a bigger
- 13:49Speaker 1: kind of way, with a with a with a more
- 13:51Speaker 1: pronounced relevance over the last decade or so, at least
- 13:55Speaker 1: here in the States. And yeah, I wanted to get
- 13:59Speaker 1: into basqueow because of that relevance, but also because of
- 14:03Speaker 1: that wild Cia story and also because there's a music connection,
- 14:08Speaker 1: and that was really the driving factor there. The way
- 14:10Speaker 1: music influenced at Boscat was obviously a musician. You know,
- 14:14Speaker 1: he considered himself a musician before he did an artist
- 14:16Speaker 1: at some point. I know he's always he was always
- 14:18Speaker 1: a graffiti artist and visual artist, but music was a
- 14:22Speaker 1: big part of his come up. As for Bob Dylan
- 14:26Speaker 1: as an artist, I've seen some of Dylan's art and
- 14:29Speaker 1: I gotta say, I don't hate it. I like it.
- 14:32Speaker 1: I haven't seen enough. I didn't know that about Tom York,
- 14:34Speaker 1: thank you. I didn't realize that Tom York was involved
- 14:37Speaker 1: with the artwork for the Radiohead albums. That's pretty awesome,
- 14:40Speaker 1: all right, let's go to the three, one seven, Hey.
- 14:45Speaker 3: Diesel from Indianapolis. I'm just I was a little disappointed
- 14:50Speaker 3: that I didn't even get a mention about my Mount
- 14:54Speaker 3: Rushmore with the you know, Django and Robert Johnson and
- 15:02Speaker 3: the earlier some of the earlier guys and disabled guys.
- 15:07Speaker 3: You know our real Mount Rushmore is. You know some
- 15:10Speaker 3: Founding Fathers, early guys, George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Lincoln you
- 15:16Speaker 3: know was later on. But anyway, it's no worries, man,
- 15:21Speaker 3: I still love the show. Keep doing it.
- 15:25Speaker 2: Like I mentioned, I was.
- 15:26Speaker 3: I'm blind, but I could really use a coffee cup.
- 15:31Speaker 1: Brother Diesel, my man from Indianapolis. Thank you for the message.
- 15:36Speaker 1: I didn't hear the original one that you sent or
- 15:40Speaker 1: read it if you texted it. Apologize. I don't get
- 15:42Speaker 1: to all of them within the week. I try to
- 15:44Speaker 1: get to get to them all at some point. But
- 15:47Speaker 1: I'm seeing this now, hearing this now, and I wanted
- 15:50Speaker 1: to respond because Django needs to be mentioned, and Robert
- 15:53Speaker 1: Johnson needs to be mentioned as well. And you know,
- 15:56Speaker 1: I don't know how many of you are familiar with
- 15:58Speaker 1: Robert Johnson. His guitar playing his music just the first
- 16:03Speaker 1: time I ever heard it. I heard it in high school.
- 16:06Speaker 1: I was driven to listen to it because the leads
- 16:09Speaker 1: up and box set came out and the only new
- 16:12Speaker 1: song on the box set was Traveling Riverside Blues, which
- 16:14Speaker 1: was a cover of Robert Johnson, and I went and
- 16:18Speaker 1: I was right around the time, I think there was
- 16:20Speaker 1: a Robert Johnson box set that came out, so there
- 16:22Speaker 1: was kind of a resurgence of Johnson going on. Similarly, anyways,
- 16:25Speaker 1: I heard that version of the song. I think that
- 16:28Speaker 1: was the first Robert Johnson piece I'd ever heard, and
- 16:32Speaker 1: as I got deeper into the catalog, it struck me.
- 16:36Speaker 1: When I was listening to him play guitar, it sounded
- 16:39Speaker 1: like literally like three different guitars at points, definitely two
- 16:44Speaker 1: throughout most of it, and I just could not believe
- 16:47Speaker 1: what the hell I was hearing or how he was
- 16:48Speaker 1: doing it. Now I have a technical understanding of what
- 16:51Speaker 1: he was doing, I can't do it, but I have
- 16:52Speaker 1: an understanding of how he was doing it at least,
- 16:54Speaker 1: But then to my years, it just sounded like, how
- 16:56Speaker 1: is one man making all of this sound? And as
- 16:59Speaker 1: far as influence goes, Diesel, You're absolutely right, uh, I
- 17:03Speaker 1: almost said, said George Jefferson. Robert Johnson deserves to be
- 17:08Speaker 1: on the Mount Rushmore of course, and Django as well.
- 17:10Speaker 1: You mentioned disabled guys. Tony Iomi as well. Didn't get
- 17:13Speaker 1: a mention, but I just wanted to get at you here,
- 17:17Speaker 1: get back to your Diesel. I appreciate the listeners. Thanks
- 17:19Speaker 1: so much. Appreciate the call as well. You have great
- 17:22Speaker 1: taste in guitar players. All right, let's go to the
- 17:25Speaker 1: four h five.
- 17:26Speaker 2: Hey, Jake, notorious RDG. It's from the four h five.
- 17:30Speaker 4: Listen to one of your your after parties and you
- 17:33Speaker 4: spoke on something's near and dear to my own heart.
- 17:35Speaker 4: That is trial by Jerry. More specifically, we're talking about
- 17:38Speaker 4: the Didy trial. Obviously you discussed how hard it was
- 17:42Speaker 4: to listen to or how you've read how it's so
- 17:45Speaker 4: heartless to the testimony. But I do want to point
- 17:47Speaker 4: out though for the reader, they are not the juror
- 17:49Speaker 4: they are not sitting there in the courtroom day eterday.
- 17:51Speaker 4: There is a bit of a psychological aspect to it,
- 17:54Speaker 4: in which the jur becomes somewhat conditioned as to what
- 17:57Speaker 4: is normal for some people. The real truth will start
- 18:00Speaker 4: to come out through the crucible of cross examination. Again,
- 18:03Speaker 4: there's a huge psychological aspect of sitting in a jury
- 18:07Speaker 4: listening to this testimony and what comes out on cross examination.
- 18:11Speaker 4: Should the defense for present any defense, should they call
- 18:13Speaker 4: any witnesses, it will shape the trial tremendously. Again, not
- 18:18Speaker 4: trying to take sides for Ditty or anyone else in
- 18:20Speaker 4: this aspect, but there is a certain psychological aspect to it.
- 18:23Speaker 4: And the other aspect is for some people who are victims,
- 18:27Speaker 4: there are many people who embrace it to the point
- 18:29Speaker 4: where it becomes their identity. They want to be the spokesman,
- 18:32Speaker 4: they want to do the newspaper articles, they want to
- 18:34Speaker 4: do the magazine covers, and they are not so much
- 18:37Speaker 4: as playing the victim as they gave them a sense
- 18:39Speaker 4: of identity. And again, I am not trying to disparage
- 18:43Speaker 4: anyone who's been abused, but by all means, there's such
- 18:46Speaker 4: a psychological aspect, especially that comes to the matters of
- 18:50Speaker 4: sexual accusations, sexual misconduct, sexual abuse. It does shape a
- 18:54Speaker 4: lot of things. But also, you know, everybody does have
- 18:58Speaker 4: their own freak and to that, to each your own. Oh,
- 19:01Speaker 4: I don't like what I'm reading. You know, you gotta
- 19:03Speaker 4: wait for the tread to finish. Thanks Jake talking Roll.
- 19:08Speaker 1: Appreciate the call notorious R. Dg Over in the four
- 19:11Speaker 1: oh five? Where is the four oh five? Wow? A
- 19:14Speaker 1: lot there a lot to unpack, but you hit on
- 19:16Speaker 1: something that I'd never really thought of before. Because I'm
- 19:20Speaker 1: not a legal expert by any means. Sounds like sounds
- 19:23Speaker 1: like you are, you have some you have some real
- 19:24Speaker 1: insight into this, into the process. I guess it makes
- 19:29Speaker 1: total sense that a jury, throughout the course of a trial,
- 19:34Speaker 1: an ongoing trial like this, would have a level of
- 19:37Speaker 1: disassociation where they can sort of remove themselves emotionally from
- 19:43Speaker 1: the testimony, both the more difficult parts of the testimony,
- 19:47Speaker 1: both in cross examination and when the defense is and
- 19:51Speaker 1: when the prosecution is questioning. I never thought of that.
- 19:56Speaker 2: To me.
- 19:56Speaker 1: I'm just going into it as a lay person, and
- 19:59Speaker 1: I'm reading what's being put forth, what's happening in the trial,
- 20:04Speaker 1: and I'm shocked at first blush, And of course you're
- 20:07Speaker 1: absolutely right. I can totally see how the jury would
- 20:10Speaker 1: have a completely different experience, and that's good, that's obviously
- 20:16Speaker 1: a good thing. We want all of our defendants, no
- 20:20Speaker 1: matter how horrible they're alleged crimes, to get a fair
- 20:26Speaker 1: shake at a fair jury, at a fair trial. However,
- 20:30Speaker 1: that said, there is so much existing evidence already out
- 20:36Speaker 1: in the world for Diddy right now, and although I
- 20:39Speaker 1: have no idea what the jury is thinking, I have
- 20:42Speaker 1: no idea how effective of a defense Diddy's team will mount.
- 20:47Speaker 1: I have many thoughts on this trial, and they're all competing.
- 20:53Speaker 1: And on the one hand, like we talked about last week,
- 20:56Speaker 1: the details are disgusting. On the another thought I have
- 21:01Speaker 1: as I just though he claims to be innocent, I
- 21:04Speaker 1: do not believe that he is innocent.
- 21:05Speaker 3: Now.
- 21:05Speaker 1: I'm not saying he's guilty of everything they're saying he's
- 21:08Speaker 1: guilty of, but the guy, on a certain level is
- 21:12Speaker 1: a fucking monster, and nothing that happens in this trial
- 21:15Speaker 1: is going to make me think otherwise. We just have
- 21:18Speaker 1: too much evidence. The evidence of him beating Cassie is gross,
- 21:23Speaker 1: full stop. But he's on trial for much more than that,
- 21:26Speaker 1: and I don't know if it's all going to stick.
- 21:28Speaker 1: I guess we're gonna find out. And you said something
- 21:30Speaker 1: really interesting in here, RGB. You said, should the defense
- 21:33Speaker 1: present any defense and quality witnesses, it'll shape the trial tremendously.
- 21:40Speaker 1: You're right, it will. However, I don't think it's going
- 21:43Speaker 1: to shape it tremendously in favor of Shawn Combs. I
- 21:46Speaker 1: could be wrong. Now, I just want to say the
- 21:48Speaker 1: final thought that I'm working toward here with Sean Combs,
- 21:51Speaker 1: as this trial unfolds one. It is not capturing the
- 21:55Speaker 1: moment the way that I thought it would. I expected
- 22:00Speaker 1: this to be OJ Simpson light. It's not even that.
- 22:05Speaker 1: And people are interested, They're not that interested. And yeah,
- 22:09Speaker 1: I know TikTok's on fire every day with trial news
- 22:12Speaker 1: and all that, but this is not capturing the zeitgeist
- 22:16Speaker 1: the way that a real trial of the century captures
- 22:19Speaker 1: the zeitgeist. So that's kind of shocking to me. And
- 22:21Speaker 1: I think the reason isn't just because television cameras are
- 22:25Speaker 1: not allowed. I think that's a big part of it.
- 22:27Speaker 1: But I just think people are desensitized to this whole thing.
- 22:30Speaker 1: We had such a lead up, we had so much conjecture.
- 22:34Speaker 1: Now on that conjecture, the other thought I'm coming to is,
- 22:38Speaker 1: I don't think we're going to get any blockbuster news
- 22:40Speaker 1: out of this. I think we know what we know
- 22:42Speaker 1: based on the indictments. We may get a couple surprises
- 22:47Speaker 1: based on the witnesses I read this morning. I think
- 22:49Speaker 1: the kid Cutty is going to testify, But I think
- 22:52Speaker 1: this is going to be a relatively non newsy trial
- 22:57Speaker 1: of the century, not even a trial of the century.
- 22:59Speaker 1: I could be wrong, and we shall see all right. Anyways,
- 23:03Speaker 1: thank you for the call four h five, Notorious RDG.
- 23:06Speaker 1: You prompted a lot there. I appreciate you. Six one
- 23:09Speaker 1: seven nine oh six six six three eight. You guys
- 23:11Speaker 1: want to send me a voicemail send me a text.
- 23:13Speaker 1: Four h five sent in a picture of a basquiacht
- 23:17Speaker 1: hanging in their office. I'm going to assume four five
- 23:21Speaker 1: that this is a print and not an actual bosk yacht.
- 23:25Speaker 1: If it is, then I direct you to our Patreon
- 23:30Speaker 1: Just kidding. That's cool? How big is that? I can't
- 23:33Speaker 1: really tell four to three seven, hey, Jake to answer
- 23:35Speaker 1: the question, who are the artists that represent their times
- 23:38Speaker 1: the best? The Fujis, the Red Hot, Chili Peppers, the Strokes,
- 23:41Speaker 1: the Killers, TV on the Radio, Tricky, Rage against the Machine,
- 23:45Speaker 1: Trip called Quest, Salt and Peppa, Biggie Smalls, Tanya, Tanya,
- 23:49Speaker 1: I quibble with some of your responses here, Salt and Peppa,
- 23:54Speaker 1: that's an interesting one. I like it though, body like
- 23:57Speaker 1: Arnold of the Denzel Face, I'll never forget that. Nine
- 24:00Speaker 1: to two to zero writes in with some suggestions. Rage
- 24:03Speaker 1: against the Machine episode Faith No More skid Row warrant warrant,
- 24:08Speaker 1: warrant mm Anthrax, Dawcin Winger, Poison, Queen's Reich, and suicidal tendencies. Listen,
- 24:18Speaker 1: the hair metal thing, right, I'm gonna get more. I'm
- 24:21Speaker 1: gonna do some hair metal episodes at some point. Not
- 24:23Speaker 1: my cup of tea and not my particular cup of tea.
- 24:26Speaker 1: Didn't somebody from dawc and die from AIDS? Or am
- 24:29Speaker 1: I am? I mistaken? Hold on? That feels like something
- 24:32Speaker 1: I need to get right. I'm gonna look that up. No,
- 24:34Speaker 1: it was not Dawkin. I apologize. I'm confusing that with
- 24:36Speaker 1: Rat guitarist Robin Crosby did die of AIDS. Yikes. There's
- 24:43Speaker 1: also def Leppard. I want to do that story as well,
- 24:45Speaker 1: the Rick Allen thing with the arm six seven nine
- 24:48Speaker 1: six six sixty three eight. You guys got some episode subjects.
- 24:50Speaker 1: We're taking them. We're always taking them, always voicemail and
- 24:54Speaker 1: text at Disgrace, LAMB Pod, Instagram, X and Facebook, Ian Brewer,
- 25:00Speaker 1: Ian nine over on X right, rights in garage and
- 25:07Speaker 1: you know, if you know, you know. Thanks, Ian yusuf
- 25:10Speaker 1: Na gheb on Instagram, rights and right on. I'm eagerly
- 25:13Speaker 1: anticipating the B York episode. Melissa Kohla writes let's fucking
- 25:18Speaker 1: go in response to the episode subjects we laid out.
- 25:21Speaker 1: I just want to say, also a special shout out
- 25:24Speaker 1: to Lou from Sick of It All, who is cancer
- 25:28Speaker 1: free and that is a great thing. Lou, of course
- 25:30Speaker 1: is the singer a Sick of It All, one of
- 25:32Speaker 1: the greatest hardcore bands of all time. Happy for you, Lou, godspeed.
- 25:38Speaker 1: Big congratulations to Justin g Over on Instagram. His son
- 25:43Speaker 1: is graduating high school and Justin psych Justin is also
- 25:46Speaker 1: old as Justin indicates to me he started late with
- 25:50Speaker 1: the kids, says his son is a rock and roll animal.
- 25:54Speaker 1: Trenton his son. Congratulations Trenton, congratulations Justin. There you go
- 25:58Speaker 1: at Disgrace slam pod on Instagram. On X on Facebook,
- 26:02Speaker 1: you guys want to get in touch, and that includes
- 26:04Speaker 1: you Pirates fans. You know, Red Sox aren't great, but
- 26:07Speaker 1: the Pirates, I feel like all they got is the hat.
- 26:09Speaker 1: That's it. That's when all you have is a hat,
- 26:11Speaker 1: a cool hat to cling to. It's tough, you know,
- 26:16Speaker 1: but you're in Pittsburgh. Okay, you have other options. I'm
- 26:20Speaker 1: getting that pillbox hat for my kid. Thanks for everyone
- 26:23Speaker 1: who brought that to my attention. The name that is
- 26:25Speaker 1: pillbox hat, best hat in the game. What am I
- 26:27Speaker 1: doing here? I can't what's happening? What's the recording software
- 26:31Speaker 1: is doing? What?
- 26:32Speaker 3: What?
- 26:32Speaker 2: Who?
- 26:35Speaker 1: I don't normally spend a lot of time talking about sports,
- 26:39Speaker 1: but we do have a little thirty minute sports segment
- 26:41Speaker 1: here in the after Party, and that that pirate's hat
- 26:44Speaker 1: is on my brain, and I just want to say,
- 26:46Speaker 1: tell the Red Sox fans out there. The Red Sox
- 26:48Speaker 1: have won the last three games against, two of which
- 26:52Speaker 1: were against the Mets, who are arguably the best team
- 26:54Speaker 1: in baseball at the moment. And the Red Sox beat
- 26:57Speaker 1: the Mets twice. They beat the Brain before that. Braves
- 27:01Speaker 1: are about as mediocre as the Red Sox are, so whatever,
- 27:05Speaker 1: but there's a common denominator amongst those wins, and it
- 27:11Speaker 1: is the fact that Alex Korra, the manager of the
- 27:14Speaker 1: Red Sox, thrown out of the game last night and
- 27:18Speaker 1: was absent from the two games prior. I don't know.
- 27:22Speaker 1: I don't know what that means. I don't know. I'm
- 27:25Speaker 1: just putting it out there. You guys tell me, all right,
- 27:28Speaker 1: I'll be back in the flash with your emails and
- 27:30Speaker 1: the Hollywood Lamb Minute. All right, we are back and
- 27:47Speaker 1: you know what time it is. It is time for
- 27:49Speaker 1: the Hollywood land Minute, brought to you by the Hollywood
- 27:51Speaker 1: Lamb Podcast. Don't know what the Hollywood Lamb Podcast is, Well,
- 27:54Speaker 1: the Hollywood Lamb Podcast is hosted by me. Every week
- 27:58Speaker 1: I tell you a story from the ni of Hollywood
- 28:00Speaker 1: and true crime. And right now we get over forty
- 28:03Speaker 1: episodes waiting for you. Episodes on Charlie Sheen, Danny Trejo,
- 28:06Speaker 1: Marilyn Monroe, a whole bunch, Drew Barrymore, and we got
- 28:10Speaker 1: one this week on Jack Nicholson, one of the coolest
- 28:13Speaker 1: guys to ever do the whole Hollywood thing, also involved
- 28:18Speaker 1: in some pretty fucked up things from Hollywood history, and
- 28:23Speaker 1: he is a clip. The Boston Garden was electric, thousands
- 28:28Speaker 1: of fans on their feet, screaming at the top of
- 28:30Speaker 1: their lungs, green and white rally towels flapping in the
- 28:34Speaker 1: humid air, sneakers up and down the parquet floor. Kareem
- 28:37Speaker 1: Abdul Jabbar wiped the sweat from his goggles. Larry Bird
- 28:41Speaker 1: thought about how good the first three Budweisers were gonna taste,
- 28:45Speaker 1: and from a private box high above the action. Jack
- 28:48Speaker 1: Nicholson was yelling. He was always yelling at Lakers games,
- 28:53Speaker 1: and Jack Nicholson didn't miss Lakers games. He caught them
- 28:58Speaker 1: courtside with the Forum in LA. He'd been the team's
- 29:01Speaker 1: most vocal season ticket holder since the early seventies. But
- 29:05Speaker 1: he couldn't be courtside because he was on set. He'd
- 29:07Speaker 1: do everything in his power at a wrap production early so
- 29:10Speaker 1: that he could catch the action on a TV set
- 29:12Speaker 1: in his trailer. Jack didn't miss a game, even if
- 29:17Speaker 1: that meant flying from Los Angeles all the way to
- 29:19Speaker 1: Boston to catch Game seven, which is exactly what he
- 29:22Speaker 1: did on June twelfth, nineteen eighty four. The Lakers climbed
- 29:27Speaker 1: to the top of the heap year after year, division titles,
- 29:30Speaker 1: conference titles, championships. Just like Jack was king of his
- 29:34Speaker 1: own heap. He stood on top of that heap with
- 29:36Speaker 1: an Academy Award in each hand. And also, like his
- 29:40Speaker 1: precious Lakers, Jack Nicholson didn't take losing very well, so
- 29:45Speaker 1: Jack was understandably beside himself as he watched his team
- 29:49Speaker 1: fall to a fourteen point deficit in the fourth quarter.
- 29:52Speaker 1: Jack wished he was an earshot of the refs like
- 29:54Speaker 1: he was back home or the opposing team's coach on
- 29:57Speaker 1: the sidelines near his coveted seat. He'd like to give
- 30:00Speaker 1: Casey Jones a piece of his fucking mind. Right about now,
- 30:04Speaker 1: the Lakers suddenly got their mojo back. They cut the
- 30:07Speaker 1: Celtics lead to twelve points, then ten eight. With twenty
- 30:11Speaker 1: six seconds to go, the Lakers were down by seven.
- 30:15Speaker 1: Jack ran his fingers through his wild hair, and that
- 30:17Speaker 1: devilish grin of his suddenly sprouted on his face. They
- 30:21Speaker 1: were doing him climbing to the top of the heat,
- 30:25Speaker 1: but not before the Celtics Dennis Johnson could wipe that
- 30:28Speaker 1: grin off Jack's face. When he sank two free throws
- 30:31Speaker 1: with only seconds left, the clock kind of down to
- 30:35Speaker 1: zero and the buzzer sounded. The Lakers lost the championship game. Guys,
- 30:42Speaker 1: make sure you are subscribed to Hollywood Land on Apple Podcasts, Spotify,
- 30:46Speaker 1: or wherever you get your podcast. Next week, We've got
- 30:48Speaker 1: an episode on Rocky Johnson's son. Okay, old school WWF
- 30:53Speaker 1: fans know who I'm talking about. Of course, I'm referencing
- 30:55Speaker 1: Dwayne the Rock Johnson. It's true crimey episode, but the
- 31:00Speaker 1: Rocks days as a young hood prior to his come
- 31:02Speaker 1: up in a lot more. But you're going to dig
- 31:04Speaker 1: this one. Check it out. Make sure you subscribe to
- 31:07Speaker 1: Hollywood Land On the email front disgrace slampod at gmail
- 31:11Speaker 1: dot com, Dustin Brazinski writes in with the subject Fish,
- 31:17Speaker 1: and the message is I would think someone with as
- 31:20Speaker 1: much musical knowledge as you wouldn't be so dismissive of
- 31:24Speaker 1: a band like Fish. They made a bigger impact on
- 31:28Speaker 1: the industry than any of the other artists on this list.
- 31:31Speaker 1: They have sold substantially more concert tickets than anyone on
- 31:35Speaker 1: that list. The list is, of course, the Rock and
- 31:37Speaker 1: Roll Hall of Fame list that Dustin is referring to.
- 31:41Speaker 1: Fish invented the structure for the Modern Music Festival in
- 31:44Speaker 1: nineteen ninety six with the Clifford Ball seventy thou attendees
- 31:48Speaker 1: for a band with zero radio hits. The organizers of
- 31:50Speaker 1: Bonnaru credited Fish for helping inspire their infrastructure. Fish held
- 31:55Speaker 1: the largest ticket event in the world on New Year's
- 31:57Speaker 1: Eve nineteen ninety nine and played a six hour set
- 31:59Speaker 1: from midnight time sunrise. In addition to all that, they
- 32:02Speaker 1: led one of the most debaucherous rock and roll lifestyles
- 32:04Speaker 1: from about nineteen ninety seven until their long hiatus in
- 32:08Speaker 1: two thousand and four. Finally, they're still killing it. Year
- 32:11Speaker 1: after year they rank in the top ten bands for
- 32:14Speaker 1: tour earnings. I think the rock and roll Hall of
- 32:16Speaker 1: Fame should be about a lot more than just having
- 32:20Speaker 1: a few radio hits. Me personally, well, you know, I
- 32:23Speaker 1: agree with you there, Dustin Radio hits aren't the end
- 32:25Speaker 1: all be hall. I don't know how I was dismissive
- 32:28Speaker 1: of Fish. I'm not denying that I was. I'm sure
- 32:33Speaker 1: I was. I don't really care for Fish, and yeah
- 32:39Speaker 1: that's just me. That doesn't take away from anything they've done.
- 32:42Speaker 1: You can't like every band, I mean, come on. I
- 32:44Speaker 1: also think Fish is kind of silly as a band.
- 32:48Speaker 1: I don't know. Might have to do with flip flops.
- 32:50Speaker 1: Do they wear flip flops? I think flip flops have
- 32:52Speaker 1: something to do. Okay, Sorry, you're gonna hate me. You're
- 32:53Speaker 1: gonna hate me. I've seen Fish before, not on purpose,
- 32:57Speaker 1: did not love them. I love, how however, the passion
- 33:01Speaker 1: of their fans. I love their contribution to music. I
- 33:06Speaker 1: fully understand and did not mean to be dismissive of
- 33:10Speaker 1: what they have given, what they have achieved, how they
- 33:13Speaker 1: have impacted people. I love all of that. Now does
- 33:17Speaker 1: that mean I think they should be in the Rock
- 33:18Speaker 1: and Roll Hall of Fame? I mean, come on, no,
- 33:22Speaker 1: The correct answer is no. Of course they shouldn't be.
- 33:24Speaker 1: And I don't know, maybe I'll change my mind. I'm
- 33:28Speaker 1: partly saying this just to get a rise out of you,
- 33:30Speaker 1: Dustin and the rest of the Fish fans out there,
- 33:33Speaker 1: but partly because it's coming from a place. And I
- 33:36Speaker 1: mean this of sincere ignorance, I don't know enough about
- 33:40Speaker 1: fish beyond the surface level. We here are, however, doing
- 33:45Speaker 1: a Fish episode. It's in the works right now. It's
- 33:48Speaker 1: going to be out in a couple months. And some
- 33:51Speaker 1: things were brought to our attention which are very true
- 33:53Speaker 1: crime and super compelling. And here's what's going to happen, Dustin.
- 33:57Speaker 1: I'm going to get into this episode, and as I'm
- 34:00Speaker 1: producing it, I'm going to be walking through the world
- 34:03Speaker 1: for a couple of weeks listening to Fish and a
- 34:06Speaker 1: band that I it's not that I it's not that
- 34:08Speaker 1: I'm not a fan of fish. I actively dislike fish.
- 34:13Speaker 1: But what will happen here, Dustin, is as I'm doing
- 34:16Speaker 1: this episode and putting together and walking through the world
- 34:18Speaker 1: listening to Fish, there will come a point where I
- 34:20Speaker 1: will become a fan of Fish. I guarantee it doesn't
- 34:23Speaker 1: happen with every band that I'm not a fan of
- 34:25Speaker 1: that we cover b of Fish. It's gonna happen. I
- 34:28Speaker 1: just know the age I'm at, the time of year,
- 34:32Speaker 1: all these different factors.
- 34:34Speaker 2: You know.
- 34:34Speaker 1: I like the Dead now, which I for years my
- 34:37Speaker 1: whole life. Basically, I did not like the Grateful Dead.
- 34:39Speaker 1: I've not. I get that they're different. So now, calm down,
- 34:42Speaker 1: I get that they're different. I didn't mean to say
- 34:44Speaker 1: that the Fish in the Great and the Grateful deads
- 34:47Speaker 1: are the same. Okay, I get that they're different. However,
- 34:50Speaker 1: you have to admit, Dustin, they occupy similar similar airspace.
- 34:55Speaker 1: They really do. And I wasn't on the Dead plane before,
- 34:59Speaker 1: but I'm on it now. So it's just a it's
- 35:01Speaker 1: just a hop, skip and a jump right there on
- 35:03Speaker 1: the tarmac over to the Fish plane. Okay, so I
- 35:06Speaker 1: may be there, I may be there with you writing
- 35:08Speaker 1: the same email to me in a couple months. That's
- 35:11Speaker 1: my point, Dustin, appreciate you and I guess yeah, I
- 35:14Speaker 1: appreciate fish. Disgrace sampod at gmail dot com. You guys
- 35:17Speaker 1: want to get at me about anything, you want to
- 35:19Speaker 1: reprimand me from my music taste, that is one hundred
- 35:22Speaker 1: percent okay. I'm trying to think of other sacred cows
- 35:24Speaker 1: that I don't like. Not the fish is a sacred cow.
- 35:27Speaker 1: There's a while there I didn't like The Who I
- 35:29Speaker 1: Know WHOA slow down, slow down. I felt that. I
- 35:32Speaker 1: felt that. I felt you guys get immediately nish. I
- 35:38Speaker 1: love the Who now, but there was a while when
- 35:41Speaker 1: I was a kid. It had to do with just
- 35:43Speaker 1: you know, the kids in high school who liked the
- 35:45Speaker 1: Who and fucking Quadrophenia and just now, I think that's
- 35:51Speaker 1: that stuff as cool as shit. But just back then
- 35:53Speaker 1: I had my reasons.
- 35:54Speaker 2: Ah right.

- 36:48Speaker 1: can continue for the foreseeable future. It can, and it
- 36:51Speaker 1: will continue. There is no stopping us. There is no
- 36:55Speaker 1: shortage of stories. And whether it's a good thing or
