Transcript
- 0:09SPEAKER_02: Welcome back to Ag Bull Media.
- 0:12SPEAKER_02: Jed Sidwell here with a special edition podcast, releasing something new and interesting.
- 0:18SPEAKER_02: It's maybe different from our regularly scheduled content.
- 0:22SPEAKER_02: We are releasing Bloodlines, the online sale platform that is truly one of a kind and really innovative.
- 0:29SPEAKER_02: I'm really excited about it because not only is it state of the art, it comes from some of my absolute favorite people.
- 0:36SPEAKER_02: I'll go ahead and introduce them in here in a bit.
- 0:39SPEAKER_02: Let's roll the open.
- 1:07SPEAKER_02: We have Mr.
- 1:08SPEAKER_02: Brock May and Lance Miller, the founders of Bloodlines Online Sales.
- 1:15SPEAKER_02: I'm sure if you're in the livestock world, you've probably seen some Facebook posts here and there of it kind of getting shared around.
- 1:23SPEAKER_02: But we thought we'd have them on and have them discuss.
- 1:26SPEAKER_02: And the cool thing is, through the power of video, we can go through the website simultaneously, but we'll get that into a bit.
- 1:33SPEAKER_02: First, I'd like to introduce you.
- 1:35SPEAKER_02: Brock, why don't you go ahead first and tell a little bit about yourself?
- 1:39SPEAKER_01: Well, thank you, Jed, again for having us on.
- 1:41SPEAKER_01: This is a great opportunity for us and appreciate the intro there.
- 1:45SPEAKER_01: Uh, you're some of our favorite people too.
- 1:47SPEAKER_01: We love doing business with you and just getting to be friends with you.
- 1:50SPEAKER_01: But uh Brock May, Mineral Point, Wisconsin, grew up here, ventured out into the world a little bit, went to junior college in Illinois, spent a couple of years in Oklahoma trading stock, and then uh ended up coming back home.
- 2:03SPEAKER_01: Currently married to my wife Aubrey.
- 2:06SPEAKER_01: She's from New Mexico.
- 2:07SPEAKER_01: We have three little girls together: Blake, Brighton, and Bradley.
- 2:11SPEAKER_01: And uh my oldest daughter just started showing.
- 2:13SPEAKER_01: So, besides developing bloodlines, that's what we're up to this summer.
- 2:18SPEAKER_01: We just got back from the Mankey Junior Nationals.
- 2:20SPEAKER_01: It's a great experience.
- 2:22SPEAKER_01: If you've never shown there, I highly recommend it.
- 2:24SPEAKER_01: It is truly a program for the kids.
- 2:27SPEAKER_01: So that was a pretty exciting thing for the summer.
- 2:30SPEAKER_01: We're looking forward to getting back into the ring there as the as the years come on.
- 2:34SPEAKER_01: But uh yeah, that's what we got going on here.
- 2:37SPEAKER_02: Sweet.
- 2:37SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 2:37SPEAKER_02: I mean, if you know Brock and you know his dad, you know his sister, you know that they know their stuff when it comes to just show cattle and livestock in general.
- 2:48SPEAKER_02: General, your wife showed a lot of sheep there competitively, and we knew them back in the day from when we were running around showing some club lands.
- 2:57SPEAKER_02: Yeah, probably did uh showing at Denver and Louisville and stuff like that.
- 3:02SPEAKER_02: And yeah, your best friend, Lance.
- 3:04SPEAKER_02: I lived with him for a summer when I was kind of dipping my toes into this whole commodity trading world.
- 3:11SPEAKER_02: So that was kind of the connection we thought we'd bring on between the Agble commodity side to bloodlines to both all of our passions for show stock.
- 3:19SPEAKER_02: Lance, the floor is yours.
- 3:21SPEAKER_02: Tell us a little bit about yourself.
- 3:23SPEAKER_00: Yeah, thank you for the awesome intro.
- 3:25SPEAKER_00: First of all, it's this is just great to kind of come back full circle in a lot of different ways for us, I feel like.
- 3:31SPEAKER_00: So Jed was my roommate at one point.
- 3:34SPEAKER_00: We were Jed was the intern down at Lavaca in in Colorado here.
- 3:39SPEAKER_00: And so we, you know, outside of that, Jed and I had been buddies and it was just another good opportunity to get to know each other even more, just working in the same office.
- 3:47SPEAKER_00: So just want to say shout out to the Lavaca boys in Littleton.
- 3:52SPEAKER_00: And so, anyways, I'm from Mineral Point originally, grew up with Brock.
- 3:56SPEAKER_00: We were running around together in high school, you know, went to college in two different I went to Madison, he was, you know, in Illinois, but we still stayed buddies throughout.
- 4:04SPEAKER_00: And so, you know, just as time has gone on here, we've still stayed, you know, real close, uh, even though, you know, as I'm in Colorado, he's in Wisconsin.
- 4:13SPEAKER_00: It's just, you know, it feels like we're still, you know, back living in an interpoint where I was on the phone and you know, obviously got this thing all figured out.
- 4:20SPEAKER_00: So it's yeah, we're just excited for it.
- 4:22SPEAKER_00: We're excited to be on here, excited to, you know, hang out with you for a little bit.
- 4:26SPEAKER_02: So yeah.
- 4:27SPEAKER_02: Well, I think it'll be really interesting to break all this down.
- 4:30SPEAKER_02: Lance, yeah, called me a little while ago and he's like, hey, we got this idea.
- 4:34SPEAKER_02: We're starting a sale platform.
- 4:36SPEAKER_02: I was like, Man, I've been waiting for something like this for a long time.
- 4:40SPEAKER_02: It is pretty dang cool.
- 4:41SPEAKER_02: A lot of ideas that I had maybe had, you know, but we're too scared to tell anyone or bring out into the light.
- 4:47SPEAKER_02: Rockin' Lance were just like, yeah, we're gonna do it.
- 4:49SPEAKER_02: And I really liked it because some of the things that Bloodlines is doing is truly, truly cool.
- 4:55SPEAKER_02: We'll go ahead and pop up the website here, and that's the big headline.
- 4:59SPEAKER_02: You pick your membership, no commission ever.
- 5:03SPEAKER_02: Lance, you want to go ahead and break that down just a little bit more for us?
- 5:06SPEAKER_00: Yeah, really.
- 5:07SPEAKER_00: You know, I guess the whole I'll I'll start at the beginning a little bit here and I'll try to make it quick, but the idea kind of started when I was a senior at Madison, UW Madison.
- 5:16SPEAKER_00: It was either like you could write economic, like rewrite economic policy or come up with a business plan.
- 5:22SPEAKER_00: And I was like, I don't like economic policy enough to really like go down that route.
- 5:27SPEAKER_00: So I was like, I'll I'll come up with some some type of business plan.
- 5:30SPEAKER_00: And so, you know, in in that process, I was talking to Brock, and I don't even remember exactly how it came up, but we're like, what about a sales site?
- 5:38SPEAKER_00: And it just kind of slowly over time developed into you know a membership sales site rather than you know everyone paying commission.
- 5:46SPEAKER_00: It was just based off of a yearly membership, and you just get to sell as much as you want, and so you know, that's kind of where the idea started, and it it has, you know, that was 2018 when I graduated from Madison, so it's been a long time coming.
- 6:00SPEAKER_00: Brock, I'll let you maybe talk about you know the the first stab at it here a handful of years ago because you I feel like you nail that.
- 6:08SPEAKER_01: So well, yeah, and Lance is right.
- 6:11SPEAKER_01: Uh started as a capstone project for him to to finish his degree there at UW Madison, and it just snowballed into what we have today, and it's been a fun process along the way and a lot of learning curves for sure.
- 6:24SPEAKER_01: You know, as it started out, we were investing, you know, it started out as a capstone project, and it, you know, we weren't really taking it too serious, but we were having some lengthy discussions about it.
- 6:33SPEAKER_01: And Lance, you can correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't our business proposal or business plan roughly 15-16 pages long for this project?
- 6:41SPEAKER_00: Yeah, that's yeah, that's what I submitted in as like the project, and yeah, we had you know the marketing plan, the you know, etc.
- 6:48SPEAKER_00: So yeah.
- 6:48SPEAKER_01: And Andy aced it, proud to say, uh worked out really good.
- 6:53SPEAKER_01: That that is the only college assignment that I ever aced, if you want to remember to.
- 6:57SPEAKER_00: I can't say I had too many A's along the way either.
- 7:00SPEAKER_00: So yeah.
- 7:02SPEAKER_02: Academic weapons, you know, just turned out to have a huge idea that's gonna hopefully I think going to catch on here because it's it's pretty cool, some of the things that that it offers.
- 7:15SPEAKER_02: And the no commission aspect really caught my eye because you know, here at Agble, we're subscription-based as well.
- 7:21SPEAKER_02: And our our our whole thing is trying to promote good content that we promote agriculture, we promote the markets and provide interesting stories.
- 7:30SPEAKER_02: Then we're also an Intel service, you know, which for$25 a month or$250 annually, you can subscribe and get text updates about the market.
- 7:38SPEAKER_02: And you know, I've only been here at Ag Bull for six months now, and in this time, I've learned a lot about subscription-based models and how businesses work like that.
- 7:50SPEAKER_02: And I still don't need to learn a lot, but it's really cool from a business side that yeah, if you provide a good product, your followers follow on.
- 8:00SPEAKER_02: You it doesn't matter what percent commission you charge or yeah, how many people follow you, as long as you provide a good product, it'll catch on, and I think that's really neat.
- 8:11SPEAKER_02: Well, let's go ahead and break down this front page here, Lance, because I I really like these sliders here.
- 8:16SPEAKER_02: That's cool that you can kind of price match a little bit.
- 8:20SPEAKER_02: And then the fun part is that bloodlines always stays the same, is the best part.
- 8:25SPEAKER_00: That's right.
- 8:25SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I think that's the catch there for sure.
- 8:27SPEAKER_00: Yeah, definitely we wanted something interactive, catch the eye.
- 8:30SPEAKER_00: What's your situation, you know?
- 8:32SPEAKER_00: And so that's that was the play there.
- 8:35SPEAKER_00: And really, at the end of the day, it's it the numbers really do speak for themselves.
- 8:40SPEAKER_00: And it's if if you know, I I I'm not very good at math, but I can figure that that out, you know.
- 8:47SPEAKER_00: So I will say that, and I, you know, it's it's there for people, you know, this type of this type of thing is there for people, and that's what I don't know, that's just what we envisioned with with how we wanted to run it.
- 8:59SPEAKER_00: And you know, everyone else can do what they want, but this was just you know our our idea.
- 9:03SPEAKER_00: And so gives you, yeah, gives you a little bit, hits it home, I guess, when when you kind of run your own numbers and see what what the possibilities are.
- 9:11SPEAKER_02: So right.
- 9:13SPEAKER_02: Absolutely.
- 9:14SPEAKER_02: Well, we'll get back to the bundle here in a bit because I think it would be better to probably go to each section of the bundle and explain it a little bit before we get to that.
- 9:23SPEAKER_02: Let's go to the auction side for a second.
- 9:26SPEAKER_02: I think that's really the cool part, is the adaptability that you have is super cool.
- 9:34SPEAKER_00: Yeah, Brock, you go ahead, Brock.
- 9:37SPEAKER_01: Yeah, so this is you know, Lance and I have spent a lot of time developing this with the producer in mind.
- 9:44SPEAKER_01: So we wanted this to be uh interface friendly and uh just user-friendly, you know, for everybody involved and make it easy, you know, if you want to get on there and and buy a membership and post something.
- 9:55SPEAKER_01: We wanted this to all flow really well.
- 9:57SPEAKER_01: So Lance has built out the you know how this all works.
- 10:01SPEAKER_01: So as you go through the site, you can click on the how it works, and it'll literally walk you through.
- 10:05SPEAKER_01: We got videos set up like you're posting here, like you have listed on the site here.
- 10:10SPEAKER_01: Uh this is very handy, and this is Lance's idea in particular to just show people exactly what you need to do to get signed up, to go through the stock exchange, to get listed on the auctions, whatever you want to do there.
- 10:23SPEAKER_01: You know, as I said before, this is all Lance on this the back side of the website.
- 10:29SPEAKER_01: I can hardly set an alarm on my phone, let alone uh you know, do what he's got going on here.
- 10:34SPEAKER_01: And this kind of ties to our backstory a little bit too.
- 10:37SPEAKER_01: Uh, we were paying some guys to do this the first time we tried, and when we ran out of money, we didn't have anything close to what Lance was able to figure out how to build this in the meantime.
- 10:48SPEAKER_01: So uh, you know, learning curve, timing, it's all a God thing, you know.
- 10:52SPEAKER_01: We we weren't ready for it uh when we first developed the site and when we invested our money into it, and just wasn't the right time, you know.
- 11:01SPEAKER_01: We had the right idea, we were approaching it all wrong.
- 11:04SPEAKER_01: It was gonna cost us a ton of money and overhead the way we were gonna approach it before.
- 11:08SPEAKER_01: And glad it didn't work out then.
- 11:11SPEAKER_01: We're back on track now and really pleased with the product we have to offer.
- 11:16SPEAKER_01: Our sales are really like you said before, they're based off subs membership, subscription, however you want to, however you want to, whatever lens you want to see that through.
- 11:25SPEAKER_01: You know, it's$1,500 for the private treaty side of things, it's$1,500 for the online options.
- 11:31SPEAKER_01: There's unlimited sales, there's no cap to it, you know, there's no hidden fees, no gimmicks.
- 11:37SPEAKER_01: It's just the way it is, it's how it reads.
- 11:40SPEAKER_01: There's no buyer fee, which is a question we've had a lot, surprisingly, that there is no fee to register as a buyer.
- 11:47SPEAKER_01: However, when you purchase one, everything is handled through Stripe on both sides of the of the website.
- 11:55SPEAKER_01: So whether you're purchasing it, purchasing the animal through stock exchange or an online auction, you have to set up a Stripe account with your bank info.
- 12:03SPEAKER_01: And then that's all handled through Stripe.
- 12:05SPEAKER_01: We never touch the money.
- 12:06SPEAKER_01: So you pay for your membership through us, you're getting a platform here that you can use, and we don't touch the money.
- 12:12SPEAKER_01: We take no commission ever, obviously, which is one of our heavy campaign slogans here.
- 12:17SPEAKER_01: But everything's handled by the seller, including the online auctions.
- 12:22SPEAKER_01: You punch in all your info, you upload everything by yourself uh mobile, and then you can also upload mobile pictures, videos, and everything without having to turn them into a link or mess with anything really too hard.
- 12:34SPEAKER_01: I actually, on the stock exchange here a little bit ago, I was just showing my wife how easy it is, and our trailer just got fresh polished, so I posted it on there, and it took me two and a half minutes, you know.
- 12:46SPEAKER_01: So that's pretty exciting.
- 12:47SPEAKER_01: It's something that's user-friendly.
- 12:49SPEAKER_01: We think everybody can utilize it from the big boys that sell 250 head down to the guys that trade 30 head a year, and they just need a platform similar to a social media, but they can also collect money on.
- 13:02SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 13:03SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 13:03SPEAKER_02: And I think the cool thing about it is, like you were saying, just how easy it is to use there because even though I I work in technology every day, I'm not the most tech savvy.
- 13:13SPEAKER_02: I mean, I got a finance degree, not a computer science degree, and uploading an online sale is stressful because there's a timeliness matter to it.
- 13:21SPEAKER_02: Like as soon as you get pictures, as soon as you get videos, your sale date's coming up.
- 13:26SPEAKER_02: You want to get them up there, and it's nice to just be able to plug, plug right away.
- 13:31SPEAKER_02: And then, like you talked about, the video format is really cool because you can see it from your phone really well, which is a livestock enthusiast myself.
- 13:39SPEAKER_02: I hate when I have to hold my phone up to my face like that to be able to see one up close.
- 13:44SPEAKER_02: Because I'm definitely guilty of doing it, and that's a really cool part of it.
- 13:49SPEAKER_02: And then the last portion, and I'll shut up for a second and let Lance have the floor.
- 13:54SPEAKER_02: The strike back and forth, you get paid so much faster.
- 13:57SPEAKER_02: And that's really the cool portion of it because you know you're in the show stock world.
- 14:02SPEAKER_02: I mean, you got bills to pay, you've been feeding these things for a while before you get to sell them.
- 14:07SPEAKER_02: It's nice to be able to just have that instantaneous uh transaction like that.
- 14:11SPEAKER_02: And I think that's a really big premium to the site.
- 14:14SPEAKER_02: Lance, what do you what are your thoughts?
- 14:16SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I I couldn't agree more.
- 14:19SPEAKER_00: Everyone needs their money faster.
- 14:21SPEAKER_00: You know, it's it's the classic JG Wentworth, it's my money and I need it now.
- 14:26SPEAKER_00: And so, you know, honestly, that's that's really why we kind of built it the way that we did.
- 14:30SPEAKER_00: There's, you know, in our model, there's no reason for us to touch funds.
- 14:35SPEAKER_00: And so give it to, you know, put it be on the buyer and seller.
- 14:39SPEAKER_00: And so it's, you know, when you buy something, whatever it is, semen, embryos, livestock, miscellaneous, you know, that invoice pops up right away.
- 14:48SPEAKER_00: You, you know, we're making people sign up with their bank account rather than a credit card.
- 14:53SPEAKER_00: We're gonna be holding feet to the fire, and it's it's yeah, we we we don't want money floating around for no reason.
- 15:01SPEAKER_00: When you go and buy something on our site, we want to be known for follow-up and you know, making sure people get paid.
- 15:07SPEAKER_00: So it's yeah, the way that it's built between the buyer and seller, we're hoping that it's efficient for for both parties, and you know, you get paid, it goes into your stripe bank account.
- 15:19SPEAKER_00: You can set when that when that money goes into your actual bank account and keep on riding on and just keep on selling, you know.
- 15:26SPEAKER_00: So hopefully I think it it's hopefully it's as easy as I make it sound because I think it is.
- 15:32SPEAKER_00: But you know, the other thing that I wanted to for sure hit on or have Brock hit on here was this horse race and progressive style, the uh the both versions that we're trying to run here and maybe maybe some of the benefits of each Brock, if you want to hit on that.
- 15:44SPEAKER_01: But yeah, for sure.
- 15:46SPEAKER_01: So on our online sales platform, on our online sales side of things here, you know, the way we run our sales is very typical, at least to the show stock industry side of things.
- 15:59SPEAKER_01: Very familiar.
- 15:59SPEAKER_01: We wanted it to be familiar just in the way it's set up, the way it looks, the bidding process is all basically the exact same.
- 16:06SPEAKER_01: There's a couple things that are different for us that we think are pretty unique.
- 16:10SPEAKER_01: So when you are building a sale from the backside, you will select how you want your sale to run.
- 16:16SPEAKER_01: And you have complete control of everything on the back side of our sales, which is unique as well to the industry.
- 16:22SPEAKER_01: But what you're looking at in front of you here is our horse race, horse race style bidding.
- 16:26SPEAKER_01: And basically, you know, you can read through the bullet points there, but I can walk you through it.
- 16:31SPEAKER_01: You have control over when your bidding opens from 8 a.m.
- 16:35SPEAKER_01: to 5 p.m.
- 16:36SPEAKER_01: And then you have control over when the extended bidding begins.
- 16:41SPEAKER_01: And that would be between 6, 7, and 8 p.m.
- 16:44SPEAKER_01: You can select when that starts.
- 16:46SPEAKER_01: When the extended bidding begins, like bullet point number two here.
- 16:50SPEAKER_01: Uh, we start at three minutes.
- 16:51SPEAKER_01: So the first hour of the sale it'll be a three-minute timer.
- 16:54SPEAKER_01: The second hour of the sale it'll be a one-hour time, one-minute timer, rather.
- 16:58SPEAKER_01: My bad.
- 16:59SPEAKER_01: And then the third hour of the sale will be a 30-second timer.
- 17:04SPEAKER_01: And that's just how we wanted to set it up.
- 17:05SPEAKER_01: We wanted to be a little more aggressive on the front side of things.
- 17:08SPEAKER_01: Me personally, we trade a lot of cattle, my dad and I do.
- 17:11SPEAKER_01: And there's there's a month-long or maybe a six-week period there in the fall where we're staying up pretty late at night bidding on cattle, and then we got to go back out early the next morning.
- 17:23SPEAKER_01: You know, the work ain't waiting for you, so you better get out and get after it.
- 17:26SPEAKER_01: And and you know, after a while, that gets pretty grueling, and we're not the only ones that deal with that.
- 17:30SPEAKER_01: In fact, everybody deals with that in the fall.
- 17:33SPEAKER_01: We're hoping to be a little more aggressive to speed things up on that side of things.
- 17:37SPEAKER_01: The sale is designed to never shut down until you, the seller, decide to click the last call button.
- 17:43SPEAKER_01: When you click last call, it will reset the clock to one minute.
- 17:48SPEAKER_01: Everything's flashing red, you're gonna know it's last call.
- 17:51SPEAKER_01: And it's truly a last call.
- 17:53SPEAKER_01: If there's no bids in that last minute, it will close the sale down.
- 17:56SPEAKER_01: If there is a bid, it just resets the clock back to one minute.
- 18:00SPEAKER_01: And that process continues at a free fall until there's no bids for one minute and the sale's actually over.
- 18:05SPEAKER_01: Uh, there's no guessing, there's no waiting, there's no games.
- 18:09SPEAKER_01: We're looking to eliminate those maybe what we would call snipe bids at the end of a sale when you've owned a calf for a while, and maybe you you give up, you go to bed, and you wake up the next morning and find out you didn't get them.
- 18:22SPEAKER_01: You know, and there's nothing more disappointing than that.
- 18:24SPEAKER_01: It's happened to me.
- 18:25SPEAKER_01: But I guess you just gotta stay up later.
- 18:28SPEAKER_01: But uh that leads us into our next style of closing, which would be progressive if you want to click over to that.
- 18:34SPEAKER_01: Our progressive style closing is also very much so designed to uh eliminate that issue.
- 18:41SPEAKER_01: Basically, everything runs the same on the progressive style in terms of the bidding and everything like that.
- 18:46SPEAKER_01: The setup, everything's the same.
- 18:49SPEAKER_01: However, we do have an inactivity timer on every animal.
- 18:52SPEAKER_01: And right here in our in our slideshow, here it needs to be updated, but it says it's a 90-minute inactivity timer.
- 18:59SPEAKER_01: We have actually moved that down to 60 minutes and we're open to conversation on that.
- 19:04SPEAKER_01: We're not sure where people want to be exactly, you know, if they want 60 minutes, 90 minutes, maybe they want something in between.
- 19:10SPEAKER_01: We we're open to suggestions on that.
- 19:12SPEAKER_01: But what we what we wanted to build in here was something where if the animal hasn't been bid on, if you've owned that animal for an hour, let's say we'll call it 60 minutes, we're gonna close that down.
- 19:23SPEAKER_01: That lot specifically, the rest of the sale continues on uh as it would, and you still have to close it down via the last call.
- 19:33SPEAKER_01: But we wanted to build in something like this.
- 19:35SPEAKER_01: Uh-huh.
- 19:36SPEAKER_01: You don't have to use it, but it's a tool there for you to utilize if there's something different you want to try.
- 19:42SPEAKER_01: I know personally myself, I would enjoy this in certain instances, but maybe not all, you know, it just depends.
- 19:50SPEAKER_01: And and we want to give people that option.
- 19:52SPEAKER_01: So that's what we built into the online side of things.
- 19:55SPEAKER_01: We we want everything to be in your control from the start of the sale to the start of the extended bidding to the closing of your sale.
- 20:03SPEAKER_01: We want to leave that up to you because at the end of the day, like I said, we built this with the producers in mind, and we wanted to give them options so that they can operate however they wish.
- 20:14SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 20:14SPEAKER_02: Well, that's that's really awesome.
- 20:16SPEAKER_02: And I think what makes it so cool is you can go to bed with this one knowing that you have bought one if that 90 or 60 minute inactivity timer has gone off, if you lack patience like I do, but still like to go to bed a good time.
- 20:33SPEAKER_02: That's pretty sweet.
- 20:35SPEAKER_02: And I think it'll I definitely think there'll be some popularity there just from that.
- 20:41SPEAKER_01: There's yeah, there's one more aspect to this as a seller that I think is pretty exciting.
- 20:47SPEAKER_01: We wanted to design this to make it user-friendly, and and one thing we built in is is what I call autopilot.
- 20:55SPEAKER_01: As a seller on the back side of the sale, when you set your floors, our site is designed to carry that animal to their floor.
- 21:03SPEAKER_01: We're not we're not doing anything other than just you can sit back and just watch your sale happen.
- 21:08SPEAKER_01: If that animal gets within$2,500 of their floor of the seller, and they get a live bid, the seller will be notified of that and they can shut off the bidding, you know, if it's close enough.
- 21:19SPEAKER_01: Sometimes you have one that's bringing more than you thought it would, and one that's not bringing as much as you thought it would, and you and they even out.
- 21:25SPEAKER_01: So you end up taking your live money, cut the rope, and send them down the road.
- 21:29SPEAKER_01: So you don't have to deal with it anymore.
- 21:30SPEAKER_01: And we wanted to build that option in just to give guys that that uh comfort, you know, they don't have to mess around, they don't have to do anything, they don't have to worry when their sale starts.
- 21:39SPEAKER_01: You know, they can cook dinner and sit back on the couch and and enjoy the night.
- 21:43SPEAKER_01: And and that's that's ultimately what we wanted.
- 21:46SPEAKER_02: Yeah, that that's really cool.
- 21:48SPEAKER_02: And I think it goes hand in hand with this progressive style really nicely, is that if it hits that, that should work pretty dang sweet.
- 21:57SPEAKER_02: Well, let's bump on over to the stock exchange side of things.
- 22:02SPEAKER_02: This is maybe the most exciting part, if you ask me, because there's not much outlight out there.
- 22:09SPEAKER_02: There, like this, that you can sell trailers, semen, embryos, all four species.
- 22:15SPEAKER_02: Shoot, you can sell your dog if Lance will let you.
- 22:18SPEAKER_02: This deal's pretty dang cool.
- 22:20SPEAKER_02: Lance, you want to break it down for us?
- 22:22SPEAKER_00: Yeah, for sure.
- 22:23SPEAKER_00: I think you know, the stock exchange, you know, that's what we're calling it, is I it's built for flexibility and it's built for what you want personally.
- 22:34SPEAKER_00: And so a couple, you know, there's probably three or four different things that you can kind of do here.
- 22:38SPEAKER_00: But like you said, Jed, it's like, you know, you can sell, you can sell an animal, you can and so I I guess it it's almost it's almost I I want to make sure that I'm clear on this because there's a there's different ways to kind of do it.
- 22:51SPEAKER_00: So, you know, I think the there's a there's a you know, a claim price.
- 22:57SPEAKER_00: Let's say you've got a steer, you can put it on there for ten thousand bucks, and if someone comes and claims it, perfect.
- 23:04SPEAKER_00: It's sold for ten thousand dollars, you know, the the buyer pays via ACH, and there's an extra five dollars on that on that transaction.
- 23:14SPEAKER_00: So it'd be ten thousand five dollars just to to you know get that that invoice paid.
- 23:19SPEAKER_00: So, anyways, okay, so you can you can post that just as a claim price, and then with that, let's say you post it at ten thousand dollars, but you can have people submit offers, so you could put a yeah, yeah.
- 23:33SPEAKER_02: I was gonna say click into that too.
- 23:35SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I'll get a free plug for Brock's trailer.
- 23:37SPEAKER_02: He's selling here.
- 23:38SPEAKER_02: Everyone go to Bloodlines and look at Brock's nice trailer.
- 23:41SPEAKER_02: He's got it all nice.
- 23:43SPEAKER_00: Yeah, thanks for setting me up here nice check.
- 23:45SPEAKER_00: I was kind of fumbling with my words.
- 23:47SPEAKER_00: But so, you know, let's yeah, let's look at this example.
- 23:49SPEAKER_00: Brock's got his trailer on there for 60 grand.
- 23:52SPEAKER_00: You know, this make an offer button that you would you would hit on the back side is, you know, you would put your your essentially your your floor price, your the lowest amount that you would accept.
- 24:02SPEAKER_00: And so let's say Brock put that at 45 grand.
- 24:05SPEAKER_00: If someone bid or offered it at 44 grand, they would simply get rejected.
- 24:10SPEAKER_00: The the offer would not go through.
- 24:11SPEAKER_00: But if they put it, you know, 47 grand, that offer would then be submitted over to Brock for him to evaluate and see if he wanted to, if he wanted to accept that.
- 24:22SPEAKER_00: So that's you know, you could apply that to uh to an animal, apply that to embryos, that goes across the board basically.
- 24:30SPEAKER_00: We built that with a lot of flexibility.
- 24:32SPEAKER_00: So, like I said, claim price, you can make an offer.
- 24:35SPEAKER_00: The other one that we wanted to do was a call for pricing, which I think there's one on there.
- 24:40SPEAKER_00: There's uh neck reams.
- 24:43SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I think he's actually rolled off today because everything rolls off after 30 days.
- 24:47SPEAKER_00: That's you can put it on there for 24 hours to 30 days.
- 24:51SPEAKER_00: And so Nick only put his on there for a few days and his rolled off here, but he had a call for pricing.
- 24:56SPEAKER_00: So, you know, same thing.
- 24:58SPEAKER_00: You can you can, you know, if you want to price it differently to different people, that's your own business, and we're providing that that platform to do it.
- 25:04SPEAKER_00: So, you know, if you have if you have something in mind, you know, you know, 25 grand to one person, 20 grand to a different person, like you can you can kind of wheel and deal how you want.
- 25:13SPEAKER_00: But the thing is with that, we built in kind of a price range that those that that you would be able to throw on to that animal to help deflect buyers that are not willing to spend that much.
- 25:27SPEAKER_00: So you're not just burning up cell phone minutes here.
- 25:30SPEAKER_00: So that's really the idea with the whole call for pricing thing is you just get more flexibility, you get exposure, you can handle that offline.
- 25:37SPEAKER_00: You know, you can you can also get paid by check.
- 25:40SPEAKER_00: We don't care.
- 25:41SPEAKER_00: And you have a you have the ability on the platform on your side to mark that as paid uh paid by check.
- 25:48SPEAKER_00: And so, you know, we're we're tracking things on our side, we're able to see everything that way.
- 25:51SPEAKER_00: And so just helps keep you, you know, in line as well with what's been paid and what hasn't, etc.
- 25:56SPEAKER_00: So Brock, talk about the bulk inventory.
- 25:59SPEAKER_00: I think that's that's a good one for you to kind of hit on.
- 26:02SPEAKER_01: Last last bulk inventory, I think, is probably you know this is this is very exciting, and props to Raymond Goney.
- 26:10SPEAKER_01: Lance and I were talking about this, and I said, you know, we need to offer something different for the bulls.
- 26:15SPEAKER_01: That way, if you want to sell five units of semen, you don't have to post that over ten times, you know, you can upload inventory.
- 26:23SPEAKER_01: So I called Raymond Goneet and a shout out to Raymond and Nick Reamswell, both of those guys we've been able to bounce a lot of ideas off of.
- 26:31SPEAKER_01: But specifically for the for the inventory, this is something Raymond and I kicked around.
- 26:36SPEAKER_01: Obviously, Raymond sells a lot of semen.
- 26:39SPEAKER_01: What we did, if you scroll down to Naughty by Nature there, you can upload however many you want, uh units of semen you want to upload.
- 26:47SPEAKER_01: And we've got a running count over there below$100 a unit.
- 26:50SPEAKER_01: You'll see there's a hundred of a hundred units remaining.
- 26:53SPEAKER_01: I mean, you can increment it out however many units you want to sell at a time.
- 26:58SPEAKER_01: Obviously, five would be the ideal when there's a five per unit or per cane, and then you know, ten per cane, I guess.
- 27:05SPEAKER_01: But anyways, we wanted to build that out to be simple.
- 27:09SPEAKER_01: If I buy 10 units out of there, it'll show 90 of 100 units remaining.
- 27:14SPEAKER_01: And we just thought this would be a useful tool for guys that have a bunch of bulls on inventory that they're selling a lot of semen on.
- 27:21SPEAKER_01: When you purchase this, the invoice gets auto-generated.
- 27:24SPEAKER_01: Raymond would get that invoice.
- 27:26SPEAKER_01: He would know, okay, I got to contact whichever semen distributor he's gonna contact and uh let them know so and so bought those units of semen.
- 27:36SPEAKER_01: They need to ship it, he's been paid for it.
- 27:38SPEAKER_01: And we just thought that was very streamlined.
- 27:41SPEAKER_01: You know, as you can see there, Jed, if you would click through some of those cell phone videos he's got of this bull.
- 27:45SPEAKER_01: I don't know if you guys have seen this bull at all, but this thing's a creature.
- 27:48SPEAKER_01: If you study his feet and legs and just his overall design is just impressive.
- 27:53SPEAKER_01: I've got some embryo lots listed out of the heifer that won the Colorado State Fair last year for the Gable family to that bull.
- 28:00SPEAKER_01: We're pretty excited about that mating.
- 28:02SPEAKER_01: I've got a few of those in already.
- 28:04SPEAKER_01: But I also have inventory.
- 28:07SPEAKER_01: If you go back, Jed, uh I have some inventory on that same heifer to one above all.
- 28:12SPEAKER_01: And we just thought this is a unique feature, you know.
- 28:15SPEAKER_01: If you have a great flush and you put in what you want to put in and you've got some left over that you want to get rid of or give people the opportunity to put in themselves more than get rid of, this is this is a great avenue for that.
- 28:28SPEAKER_01: You can post as much as you want, and when it runs out of stock, there will be a banner that pops up, says sold out to show that it's a hot commodity, and then it can be reloaded.
- 28:38SPEAKER_01: So that those those semen lots actually don't have an expiration date.
- 28:43SPEAKER_01: They just have to reload them, which is very nice.
- 28:45SPEAKER_00: Jed, if you go to the how it works, the stock exchange one, you could just like go down quick and below the five steps here, just keep rolling.
- 28:53SPEAKER_00: There's you get kind of like a quick yeah, run through here, you know, on the how it works at uh the stock exchange, you'd be able to see this.
- 29:00SPEAKER_00: If you yeah, if you keep scrolling just a little bit more, you know, I I like I especially like this, you know, it's kind of a this sold-out banner is definitely, you know, something to keep track of because you know it's gonna show what's kind of what's the hot commodity, you know, going right now.
- 29:16SPEAKER_00: And so, you know, I don't know, it's something to keep an eye on.
- 29:20SPEAKER_00: And I feel, you know, over time it'd be cool to include some type of you know tracker that's what's what's real hot, what's going right now.
- 29:28SPEAKER_00: And so, you know, we've got we've got plenty of ideas and different things to help help uh promote individual sellers on the site, and and uh, you know, we'll we'll get there one day, but you know, we've definitely got plans.
- 29:40SPEAKER_02: So I think that's the cool thing about having I mean it's just you and Brock that started this deal.
- 29:47SPEAKER_02: Lance is yeah, kind of gung-ho on the backside of running the website and really, really good at just changing around and being adaptable and open to new ideas, so you can change it so fast and implement new things, maybe rather than a larger kind of setup would.
- 30:04SPEAKER_02: But at the same time, the power of technology that we have these days, we can still run at an efficient, high level with no hiccups, because you know, technology's on our side, but yet still be innovative and have you know, say 10 years from now, the the whole livestock industry has changed on how we close online sales.
- 30:24SPEAKER_02: We could change that tomorrow if we really wanted to.
- 30:26SPEAKER_02: And I think that's the thing that really sets bloodlines apart, for me at least.
- 30:32SPEAKER_00: Yeah, absolutely.
- 30:33SPEAKER_00: I think you know, as as ideally more people join, we're able to brainstorm more and and get you know, get more ideas in there.
- 30:43SPEAKER_00: And I think at the end of the day, for Brock and I, it's best idea wins.
- 30:46SPEAKER_00: And I hope that you know, sellers have feel that they have a platform like that with us.
- 30:53SPEAKER_00: And I don't think there's too many websites that if you have a tech problem, you can actually call the guy that runs it and yell at him.
- 30:59SPEAKER_00: So that's you know, I take credit for it.
- 31:01SPEAKER_00: What if that's worth anything, you know, you can do that here.
- 31:04SPEAKER_01: So but um speed dial just in case.
- 31:07SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I would like to say I think you're exactly right, Chad.
- 31:11SPEAKER_00: It's like you know, our ability to be agile and move with what people want is gonna be uh a strong, a strong thing for us going forward.
- 31:21SPEAKER_00: So big big time agree with you.
- 31:23SPEAKER_00: And so sweet.
- 31:26SPEAKER_02: Well, let's go ahead and I kind of preluded it to it earlier and flash it on the screen.
- 31:31SPEAKER_02: I think this is the really cool part, especially like if you're on the small ruminant side, like I am, and we, you know, we go through several flushes and AI dates, and then we still have a later set of kind of cleanup lambs that we're trying to get sold kind of in smaller lots.
- 31:46SPEAKER_02: You can have an online sale, but then still be selling stock on the stock exchange as well.
- 31:52SPEAKER_02: And I it it benefits you from doing it, so you get 500 bucks for free if you bundle it there.
- 31:59SPEAKER_01: Yeah, that's a great point.
- 32:00SPEAKER_01: And actually, that's something Lance and I talked about beforehand that we need to touch on.
- 32:04SPEAKER_01: Glad you brought it up and glad you used it as an example for yourself because that was kind of part of our intention as well.
- 32:11SPEAKER_01: Like you said, we had the producer in mind when we when we made this, and a lot of guys are forced to have an online sale in the fall while the traffic's good and people are out running around.
- 32:22SPEAKER_01: I totally understand that, but we wanted to create a route for them where maybe they can post some stuff that uh, like you said, maybe it's later born, maybe they're just a little green, not ready to sell yet.
- 32:33SPEAKER_01: Uh, you can still have that online sale and still show that stock to the people that are through looking and say, hey, we're not we're not gonna sell this one yet, we're gonna post them privately later.
- 32:44SPEAKER_01: Go about it that way and still get the max amount of money they can for that animal when the time is right.
- 32:51SPEAKER_01: So that was our intention with that to offer it.
- 32:54SPEAKER_01: Really, the the private treaty was was for that reason.
- 32:57SPEAKER_01: We think obviously we're gonna be able to utilize it a lot further than that uh as we got to building it and and added some cool features to it.
- 33:04SPEAKER_01: But that was kind of the intention, you know, was everybody has their sale when they have to have their sale.
- 33:10SPEAKER_01: And a lot of these guys, you know, their flush bill is ridiculous, their rent, their pasture rent's ridiculous, their semen bill is ridiculous.
- 33:19SPEAKER_01: We all know how expensive everything is.
- 33:21SPEAKER_01: If you go fuel up your vehicle right now, it's ridiculous.
- 33:24SPEAKER_01: But at the end of the day, we wanted something that they could utilize that was way affordable and just give them a platform where they feel confident to go on and list their stuff and and have things go the way they wanted to.
- 33:37SPEAKER_01: They had full control on the backside, the money goes straight to their pockets when they get paid, and no commission ever.
- 33:43SPEAKER_01: That's that's basically what we were after.
- 33:45unknown: Yeah.
- 33:46SPEAKER_02: I think the key takeaways is that it's genuine, it's authentic, but yet it's built for you, it's built for the consumer, and that's what's so cool.
- 33:55SPEAKER_02: Yet at the same time, I mean, I've been a buyer before too, back in my 4-H days, and we're still trying to buy, you know, our next breeding piece to use.
- 34:04SPEAKER_02: It's really, you know, you think about when you go on tours looking at stock, you're like, man, there was that one that they had in the back pasture that I thought was cool that wasn't on the sale, and then yeah, you go back and ask them about it two months later when you finally remember and like, oh yeah, we sold it to some local guy for real cheap.
- 34:21SPEAKER_02: And you're like, Man, I wish I would have had the opportunity to get on that one.
- 34:25SPEAKER_02: And with the stock exchange, you have that opportunity now.
- 34:28SPEAKER_02: Exactly.
- 34:29SPEAKER_02: Exactly.
- 34:30SPEAKER_01: We just it's good for everybody, you know.
- 34:33SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 34:34SPEAKER_00: Yep.
- 34:35SPEAKER_02: Awesome.
- 34:36SPEAKER_02: Well, closing things.
- 34:37SPEAKER_02: I figured I'd embarrass Brock and Lance just once.
- 34:41SPEAKER_02: I was trying to find a headshot for Lance to use because he wouldn't send me one to post on the thumbnail here.
- 34:47SPEAKER_02: I had to pop up this the founders of Bloodlines, everyone.
- 34:51SPEAKER_02: Brock May and Lance Miller back in their prime.
- 34:54SPEAKER_00: Yep.
- 34:55SPEAKER_01: Yeah, the very uh unique thing about that picture is the steer on the right, the silver steer, he was reserve grand, the steer on the on the left, the black steer that I'm holding, uh was the grand steer that year.
- 35:07SPEAKER_01: I ended up with uh grand and reserve at the Wisconsin State Fair.
- 35:11SPEAKER_01: The funny thing about this picture is I'm holding the grand, right?
- 35:14SPEAKER_01: But that steer hated me.
- 35:17SPEAKER_01: And uh Lance worked on that calf all summer and he whooped my butt at the state fair.
- 35:23SPEAKER_01: Gladly I own both of those calves, and I'm holding the champ in the picture, but he hated me, he liked Lance, so he let Lance work on him.
- 35:30SPEAKER_01: He'd always kick me, literally, would kick me, and he didn't kick Lance, so I'd worked right next to him on the silver steer, and and Lance got around me.
- 35:39SPEAKER_01: So uh, you know, Lance uh doesn't have a lot of livestock experience, he didn't grow up showing, but technically he did win the Wisconsin State Fair.
- 35:47SPEAKER_02: Yeah, and you know, Lance has smack lads at the Colorado State Fair himself, you know, you know, kind of being the top hand there, yeah.
- 35:56SPEAKER_02: Little Bruce Lance.
- 35:58SPEAKER_00: Yeah, a lot of a lot of I've I've been fortunate to hop in with a lot of great people and and you know, on the show side, of course, but professionally as well with you know multiple families here in Colorado.
- 36:09SPEAKER_00: So I've always been I've always been very fortunate that way.
- 36:12SPEAKER_00: And I think, you know, kind of I don't know if we're getting to closing words here, but I s you know, I said this the other night, but I think you know, I've been very fortunate and and Brock has kind of put me helped put me in these positions as well, but I've always been fortunate where the people I'm working for have a have a true entrepreneurial spirit and are willing to take risks.
- 36:32SPEAKER_00: And I've seen that work for people, and it's given me a lot of confidence to pursue things like this.
- 36:41SPEAKER_00: And so they know who they are.
- 36:43SPEAKER_00: I don't have to say anything about it, but it's yeah, this this was this was the you know the risk that that we wanted to take, and we like we like we like doing it, we like our shots, and we're we're trying to you know just put this thing in a better position just for everybody.
- 36:58SPEAKER_00: So yeah, I think yeah, the whole the whole the whole deal we're excited about.
- 37:04SPEAKER_00: I don't even know exactly where else to go with it right now, but we're pumped and getting on here with you, Jed, is like I said, I'll you know, the full circle, the full circle moment.
- 37:14SPEAKER_00: So we're just I don't know, we're just jacked, man.
- 37:16SPEAKER_00: It's it's exciting, and we're excited to finally share it because we've been sitting on it for a little while here, and so be interesting to see where we're at in a few months and and just uh where we go.
- 37:27SPEAKER_02: So Brock, do you have any closing comments as as we start to wind that things down here?
- 37:34SPEAKER_01: Yeah, for sure.
- 37:35SPEAKER_01: Well, first of all, first and foremost, thank you for having us here on AgDull Media.
- 37:40SPEAKER_01: Like Lance said, full circle moment.
- 37:42SPEAKER_01: You know, I've sold Jed a few Kevs and his brother, and we've had a lot of fun along the way.
- 37:47SPEAKER_01: We've got to be great friends, and you know, this is just a great opportunity.
- 37:52SPEAKER_01: Like Lance said, we've worked really hard on this.
- 37:54SPEAKER_01: This is something we've been developing for roughly eight years, and probably something I didn't mention before, or maybe I did.
- 38:01SPEAKER_01: You know, we've together, Lance and I have lost a lot of money when we first developed this, and I think it's a testament to our friendship.
- 38:08SPEAKER_01: I look forward to what we have in front of us here.
- 38:10SPEAKER_01: We didn't give up, we produced this something that uh we can be proud of.
- 38:14SPEAKER_01: We're excited to show the world, and you know, we hope we hope it's as useful as as we intended to make it.
- 38:21SPEAKER_01: So we hope that it can make people money or save people money, and they can take that money and use it to uh better their lives, better their program, whatever they choose to do with it.
- 38:32SPEAKER_01: So at the end of the day, like we said, I've said it multiple times, this is something we produced with the producer in mind or or traders of the like.
- 38:40SPEAKER_01: And uh we're hopefully we're hoping that it's a useful product that will save them money and that they can utilize it on the daily to manage their business.
- 38:49SPEAKER_02: Nice.
- 38:50SPEAKER_02: Made for the people, by the people, and like Lance was talking there, that you know, forward movement and forward progress comes from taking risks and taking those leaps.
- 39:02SPEAKER_02: And I think this was definitely one worth taking because man, it is cool to look at this website.
- 39:07SPEAKER_02: It launched just a few days ago, and I my brother was at Maine Junior Nationals.
- 39:11SPEAKER_02: He's like, everybody's talking about it.
- 39:13SPEAKER_02: We got to have our sale on there.
- 39:14SPEAKER_02: I was like, already ahead of you.
- 39:16SPEAKER_02: We're gonna be on there.
- 39:17SPEAKER_02: Sidwell show steers this fall.
- 39:18SPEAKER_02: Look out.
- 39:19SPEAKER_02: But it'll be really fun to go forward, and maybe a couple months from now, we'll have a check-in and talk about, and you know, we'll maybe do a QA at some point and see what you guys, the public thinks on what we can do to kind of move this thing forward because that, like we talked about, it's agile and adaptable and very cool there.
- 39:38SPEAKER_02: Well, guys, thanks for having on or coming on.
- 39:42SPEAKER_02: Excuse me.
- 39:42SPEAKER_02: Thanks for coming on and taking the time to do this because I think it's really cool.
