- 0:00I mean, it just depends on what you want hero talents to be,
- 0:03right? Like depending on who I talk to,
- 0:06there's a lot of like variants there.
- 0:09We have some people that came in now over the last few days and
- 0:12say like, OK, do I have to learn two hero trees?
- 0:16Because if I have to learn two hero trees I would just play
- 0:18different spec Victory for the Forsaken.
- 0:22For Lauderon. For the Karen tour.
- 0:26For Pandaria. For calendar to.
- 0:32The burning region for Gilnaeus, but has not died for the Lich
- 0:40King for the Sindora. For the alliance.
- 0:45For the horn for Azeroth. Hello and welcome to another
- 0:51special episode of For Azrok in my series where we talk to the
- 0:56people who know what in the world is going on in the World
- 0:59of Warcraft, the guide riders, the three crafters, the people
- 1:03who like dig into stuff. And joining me is a great friend
- 1:07of mine. Mr. Hawk.
- 1:09How are you and how's World of Warcraft been treating you?
- 1:12Oh yeah, I mean stressful, right?
- 1:14Like that's how every patch releases.
- 1:17I think we'd currently in the process of US or NA getting
- 1:21their patch deployed right. So I think in a few hours, is
- 1:26that about right? It's, it's going to be Tuesday
- 1:29with extended maintenance that goes through to 3:00 PM PST.
- 1:36Yeah. So it's it's going to be a.
- 1:38Little more time zones. Yeah.
- 1:43And then obviously that's when we in NA start actually beta
- 1:47testing and hopefully it's good for you guys.
- 1:50Yeah, that would be. But there is a lot happening and
- 1:58a lot happening to our classes. So for those who don't know you,
- 2:02can you tell us about yourself in the class that you like to
- 2:05talk about? Yeah, So hi, I'm Hawk.
- 2:09Hawk Hogan I've been doing elemental shaman theory crafting
- 2:14and like tool support I guess for the last, what is it now,
- 2:19eight years or something. Started doing Wow analyzer back
- 2:24when and then slowly worked my way into like simulation craft
- 2:29and do like theory crafting, crunching some numbers and
- 2:35trying to figure out how the game works, how the spec works,
- 2:37how to do it properly, how to play the class.
- 2:40Still in the process of figuring that one out, but I do think
- 2:44that I have at least a good theoretical some good
- 2:48theoretical knowledge about the spec.
- 2:51Of course, of course, it's always a moving target, so even
- 2:53when you do figure something out, it might change on you in
- 2:56the next path. For the Elemental Shaman,
- 2:59something that is near and dear to my heart, it's been quite the
- 3:03journey. Over the course of The War
- 3:06Within we've had entire cooldowns completely changed
- 3:11over, we've had our on and off again love affair with Flame
- 3:15Shock, and even that is changing.
- 3:17Can you tell me, in your opinion, how things have gone
- 3:22for Elemental through The War Within?
- 3:25I mean, it's been turbulent to say the least, right?
- 3:29Getting like a full on Wework, which I mean they didn't touch
- 3:33like the bass spells I guess, but still like everything kind
- 3:37of changes or changed. Previously we had like different
- 3:41build types depending on like which of our fillers we were
- 3:44just spamming because that's just what kind of always
- 3:47happened. And they just kind of took
- 3:51offence with that if we just ignored one of our main like
- 3:55minor coolers, our major fillers, I guess, depending on
- 4:01whichever one it was, right. And so they just reworked
- 4:04everything. Turns out every time something
- 4:07gets reworked, it gets kind of strong.
- 4:10So we got nerved quite a bit. Still ended up being pretty
- 4:14good, not going to lie. And yeah, like in the end of the
- 4:19expansion. Now, I personally think that the
- 4:21gameplay was pretty good. It was very fun to play and
- 4:27yeah, I mean still very strong. So I think they ended up in a
- 4:31good position with The War Within and now with Midnight
- 4:35there will be changes. So I think we're going to talk
- 4:38about that one. Yeah, definitely.
- 4:40But before we do, I'd love to talk a little bit more about the
- 4:43hero talents, because of course The War Within was the
- 4:46introduction of the hero talents.
- 4:47We had both the Farseer and of course the Stormbringer hero
- 4:53talents for Elemental. And there's been sort of like a
- 4:57back and forth between the two and sometimes one was the Mythic
- 5:02plus build and one was the raid build.
- 5:03And they've been changing. So like overall have has
- 5:08Elemental benefited from these hero talents and have they been
- 5:12like overall a good thing? I mean, it just depends on what
- 5:17you want hero talents to be, right?
- 5:19Like depending on who I talk to, there's a lot of like variants
- 5:24there. We have some people that came in
- 5:26now over the last few days and say like, OK, do I have to learn
- 5:31to hero trees? Because if I have to learn to
- 5:33hero trees, I would just play different spec.
- 5:35And for us, how it's traditionally been, it's like
- 5:39Farsi as the rating, the single target build, right?
- 5:42And storm bringer, like the AOE just burn everything in the
- 5:46build, right? And that is more or less stayed
- 5:50the same, right? Like Farsi is playable in mythic
- 5:54plus definitely does better boss damage and a few dungeons like
- 5:58usually like one or two dungeons each season.
- 6:00It does see play and might be slightly better depending on
- 6:06your context, who you're running with, stuff like that.
- 6:08But yeah, like so having these completely distinct kind of
- 6:13flavours for different Pve styles, so playing something
- 6:17that feels quite different between rate, single target and
- 6:21mythic plus AOE is just kind of drawing for some people.
- 6:24I don't particularly mind it because I've, I do like the idea
- 6:29of being able to specialize in some kind of like damage pattern
- 6:34or something like that, right? But generally what happens if
- 6:38you have to specialize is that you obviously lose in all of the
- 6:41areas where you don't specialize.
- 6:44So what we had a lot of the time is like Stormwinger does more
- 6:46AOE, but we just lose out on single target.
- 6:48So we just lag behind on that, which kind of held us back right
- 6:52now we're probably so overturned that it doesn't really matter as
- 6:55much. But that's a different kind of
- 6:57question, right? Oh yeah.
- 6:59So like having it as like an aesthetic choice and having like
- 7:05the animations and summoning like The Tempest for the storm
- 7:10Winger and have like all the lightning happening and
- 7:12everything. It's pretty cool.
- 7:13It it feels good. Farcia.
- 7:15I'm personally enjoy all of it. I know that half the community
- 7:18hates it. Just having more pets and like
- 7:21summon your grandpas and have them actually do the job, right?
- 7:26Like if you're playing the game and 30% of your damage is just
- 7:29from the pets, it's just from the people that are standing
- 7:31behind you and you're not really expecting to play a pet class.
- 7:34I see how people would kind of dislike that, but I, I do very
- 7:41much enjoy it. I mean, I've always liked
- 7:43Primordial Wave, which is like the main thing that you need to
- 7:47use for Farseer builds, right? Because it procs the Eurotelons.
- 7:51But yeah, so end of the day, I'm not entirely sure if I think the
- 7:56system benefits us in the sense of like it makes the gameplay
- 8:02better or anything like that. But it I think the idea is
- 8:06generally successful. So I'm I'm quite happy that they
- 8:11take it over into midnight, I think.
- 8:15OK. And so as you've gone into
- 8:18Midnight and we've gone through the streamlining, we've seen a
- 8:23reduction of a lot of the buffs that we used to have to keep an
- 8:29eye on the plates that we used to spin.
- 8:33Does Elemental still do what Elemental does?
- 8:36Does it still feel like elemental?
- 8:38And how is the gameplay being affected?
- 8:41Well, it entirely depends again on who you're asking, right?
- 8:45Like all of the like the try hards, the people that spend a
- 8:51lot of time playing the spec, some of them may be playing it a
- 8:55bit too much. Just say like all of the
- 8:58interesting stuff is gone, right?
- 9:00The skeleton is definitely still there, right?
- 9:02Like it's a bit of a spender spec.
- 9:03You generate your mouth some precious spenders.
- 9:06All of the things that kind of do, all the pretty colours, all
- 9:09the animations, all that is still there.
- 9:11It's probably more now than it was previously because they just
- 9:15kind of focused in on like overload.
- 9:17So everything just happens more now is at least what it kind of
- 9:21looks like and feels like. But all of the fun stuff, right?
- 9:28Like Ice Fury broke up the rotation.
- 9:31Ice Fury has always been a very, very highly debated spell.
- 9:36Like the word clunky has at times been very, very well.
- 9:42We disincentivize people to use it.
- 9:44Let me put it this way, right? Because everything just gets
- 9:46kind of called clunky and the word just loses all meaning.
- 9:49But yeah, like, people always called it clunky because playing
- 9:52around it was just kind of annoying.
- 9:53You had to as well as you said, right?
- 9:55Like spinning plates, just one more that you just kind of have
- 9:58to manage. But after they rework that, I'd
- 10:02like, I don't know how many of your listeners and viewers know
- 10:07the history there, right? Like I sure he initially was if
- 10:11I remember correctly 32nd cooldown and gave you like 4
- 10:14charges of first Chuck. Then that got rebalanced a few
- 10:17times. Was it even a minute and four
- 10:20charges? I don't even remember, it's been
- 10:21about a while and it anyway. It's been a long time since like
- 10:25I think BFA days when we were doing the, the, the balance of
- 10:31the elements and so you would want to go through and it's gone
- 10:35through a lot of changes though. It's even older, right?
- 10:37Like in Legion there was like the ice quake build and stuff
- 10:40like that. Ice shoe already existed back in
- 10:42Legion, right? So it's been like 10 years at
- 10:45this point. So anyway, point being, they
- 10:51changed it to a random clock now, right?
- 10:54So just by doing things you just sometimes get it and every ice
- 10:58shoe is like one for shock that you can use afterwards.
- 11:01And that was kind of cool. You could save up like 2
- 11:06charges. The way it procs is more or less
- 11:08normalized, so you don't really get like 3 procs in a row or
- 11:11something like that. So you can just bank it.
- 11:14You have it for like movement stuff.
- 11:16You can just actually move places, which is very nice to do
- 11:19as a caster. People still call it clunky.
- 11:25I don't know if that is related to like we have a talent called
- 11:28Fusion of Elements, which the base UI just never tracked.
- 11:33It was tracked and like a beta at some point, but then they
- 11:36just removed that for some reason.
- 11:37So we had to like work around it with we go us to even just
- 11:40understand what is actually happening in the game because
- 11:43Blizzard didn't want to tell us. But so that was kind of weird.
- 11:49That was kind of janky to play around that.
- 11:54But other than that, it was a pretty nice spell.
- 11:56Now at the end of all, at the end of it all after the we
- 12:00factors and reworks. So losing that is kind of bad.
- 12:06Similarly, like a lot of the flavour stuff Liquid Magma told
- 12:10him which back in legion or something you just popped it
- 12:15down at the damage. Great, loved it.
- 12:18Then it started applying like flame shocks, which that was
- 12:21kind of neat when we had like primordial wave to actually
- 12:23benefit from the flame shocks right?
- 12:25And now they just removed it again and replaced it with like
- 12:27a new talent, which is technically better.
- 12:30It can just apply all of the flame shocks now, but it was
- 12:34like the last totem that we had remaining.
- 12:37And people like totems I think just for Charmin generally.
- 12:41So bit of a loss in flavour I guess.
- 12:45Yeah. And some other stuff, right?
- 12:46Like we have lost a lot of procs, a lot of like random
- 12:49stuff, a lot of things that were kind of you had to track or you
- 12:53just didn't. Usually you will find just not
- 12:55tracking it at all. People obviously want to track
- 12:58it. If things are happening, they
- 13:00want to see it, right? Oh, yeah.
- 13:01So like they removed a lot of those things, which I think is
- 13:05fair, right? It's it's a very weird
- 13:07situation. They added a lot of things and
- 13:10removed the little things that we kind of asked for.
- 13:13But now it's just the shell that's left over.
- 13:15So it just feels like, OK, and and now please add the fun into
- 13:19the spec, right? It still feels like elemental
- 13:23sound, but there's just the little bit missing.
- 13:26I don't know if that's just me talking or someone who likes to
- 13:29slightly min makes or slightly like try to optimize gameplay a
- 13:33little bit, right? Because it's also a situation
- 13:36right now where like if you go onto the Internet, you go onto
- 13:39YouTube and you see like what creators are talking about with
- 13:43regards to like midnight and everyone loves elemental shaman
- 13:46and one says you should play that.
- 13:48But that in my opinion, right, It's mostly just people that
- 13:51played it for like a few hours and tried it in a few dungeons
- 13:55and stuff like that. And it's really cool.
- 13:57It it feels good, it looks nice, but there's just not much there
- 14:03if you actually want to go into it, right?
- 14:05Like when I was writing the guides and I'm sitting there
- 14:07like, OK, and how can I tell people how to optimize this?
- 14:10And I'm just saying like there, there is nothing I, I don't
- 14:13know, like there's mass of the elements and like the which you
- 14:18have to kind of play around and that's it really so.
- 14:26So it feels like while the cool factor remains, a bit of the
- 14:30soul has been hollowed out. Like the skeleton is still
- 14:34standing there but the soul is just missing, right?
- 14:38OK, OK. You did talk about the loss of
- 14:43Liquid Mogmototum, the addition now that we, we no longer have
- 14:47Liquid Mogmotum, we're boring from enhancement.
- 14:53The ability to like now immediately apply a flame shock
- 14:59onto 1 target and five others in there that hit like hits the
- 15:02cap. How has that really changed for
- 15:10the AOE of, of elemental? Because elemental AOE was a lot
- 15:16of that project juggling. You wanted to make sure that you
- 15:19were like sending and sending your elemental blast so you
- 15:21could, you could empower and so forth.
- 15:25You wanted to make sure that you were doing the the right amount
- 15:30of juggling. And now it feels like you're
- 15:33looking for a Aftershock proc to like send more spenders and go
- 15:39from there. Yeah, I mean, you're right.
- 15:42I even forgot to mention that I like Echoes of Grades Unknowing,
- 15:45which is like the talent where you just alternate your
- 15:47spenders. That is also gone now.
- 15:50So you're just spamming your AOE spender when AOE is happening,
- 15:53which it's it's earthquake is a great spell.
- 15:56Might need a little animation update at some point if we look
- 16:00at the new like augmentation earthquake animations and stuff
- 16:04like that, but that's a different conversation.
- 16:10But yeah, so like stuff like that has gone.
- 16:12The whole Ice Fury fusion thing is gone.
- 16:16Some talents that you could sometimes play around like
- 16:18Search of Power where like your spenders would then upgrade your
- 16:22next generator, stuff like that is gone.
- 16:25So all of the flame shock juggling that we did previously,
- 16:28right? Like we kind of understand how
- 16:31exactly liquid magma totem applies it's dots.
- 16:34So depending on target counts, how many targets have flame
- 16:38shock, how many don't you just have to use your spells in a
- 16:42different order to just kind of abuse the logic there.
- 16:45And whether that was fun for people to do or not is very,
- 16:51very it's it's debatable. I agree, right.
- 16:54Like I personally enjoyed myself figuring out how exactly that
- 16:59works and trying to maximize like the active flame shocks
- 17:02with those builds. But to each their own on that
- 17:06one, right? And now it's definitely.
- 17:07Fun to read on my end, it was not something I was looking to
- 17:11put into practice. Yeah, and now the new voltaic
- 17:15place. So I'd like, as you said, you
- 17:17shock a target and everything else also gets flame shocks up
- 17:20to the maximum, which is 6, right?
- 17:23The problem is just it entirely replaces your flame shock.
- 17:26So you can't do it. Like if if you have to wait for
- 17:30everything to be grouped up, then you can actually press the
- 17:32button. So that's the one, that's one
- 17:35thing. And then you also are kind of
- 17:37reliant on everything standing together because you only have
- 17:39one spell that's a splash that just applies the dot now.
- 17:43So if they are not grouped, like what are you supposed to do?
- 17:45You can't really put it somewhere else.
- 17:47There's no other way to apply flame Shock at all.
- 17:50There are no procs anymore where they just apply it.
- 17:53I guess pressing Ascendance itself kind of still does apply.
- 17:57It spread sometimes, but that's like a two or three minutes cool
- 18:00down, right? So kind of debatable how
- 18:03relevant that is in most cases. But yeah, like previously you
- 18:08had Primordial Wave, which was like 30 second cool down.
- 18:12So every 30 seconds you kind of had like your little set up
- 18:14thingy where you try to do all the flame shock juggling.
- 18:17You did the primordial wave and then you just kept playing the
- 18:20game kind of, and now was like 15 second cool down -6 seconds
- 18:29from one talent and then -1 1/2 again, something like that.
- 18:33I think it's like 8 second cooling or something on the low
- 18:36end. So pressing that button and then
- 18:40the lava burst afterwards, it's like a good bit of irritation
- 18:43now, which is not terribly another terribly bad thing
- 18:48because it's one of the few instant casts you have, right?
- 18:50So you can actually move when you press will take place.
- 18:55But yeah, so like, I think it doesn't feel particularly nice
- 19:00to play. I mean, sure, if everything's
- 19:02scooped up, if everything goes well, it's kind of neat.
- 19:06But yeah, I don't know, I definitely preferred the
- 19:09previous iteration. Probably just what I'm used to,
- 19:12to be fair, right? Like it might just be a thing
- 19:14that will and like if we talk again like 2 years, I will just
- 19:17sit there like MO wasn't so bad, was just a little bit of growing
- 19:20pains, right? Understandable.
- 19:25I mean it is going to be a different beast in AOE.
- 19:30The single target though, when we are walking up to that boss
- 19:35and we are now dealing with like a raid boss or just the boss
- 19:38that we're dealing with in a mythic Plus, how is that
- 19:42affected? It doesn't.
- 19:43It's not being completely reworked like AOE, but like are
- 19:46we still able to do what we wanted to do?
- 19:49Well, single target or rate generally is kind of the the
- 19:52pain point in my opinion, right like from all the testing I've
- 19:55done and from all the tests testing I've watched, we're just
- 19:58losing a lot of mobility, right? The assumption right now is that
- 20:03you will play voltaic place, but just apply it like every 15
- 20:07seconds ish right. So play it without the cooldown
- 20:10reduction talents and all of that.
- 20:12So that's a movement spell. And then I guess you have your
- 20:15earth shock, which like every. Let's say every 8 seconds or
- 20:20something, right? You can press like a spender and
- 20:23you can move a little bit that way and that's kind of it.
- 20:26So I mean Stormkeeper gives you some instant cars, Lava search
- 20:29gives you some instant cars. So I'd like there is definitely
- 20:33it's definitely possible to like start a step places sometimes,
- 20:36but if you just have to go far, you have spirit walkers,
- 20:39obviously, but that is still not always available, right?
- 20:46And if I look at at least how the bosses were designed in war
- 20:50within, a lot of them required a good bit of movement.
- 20:54So we're going to see how that goes in the pre patch, I guess.
- 20:58And even in midnight, right, like all the right bosses that
- 21:01we tested, I think they still require a good a good amount of
- 21:06mobility. I felt like it was a bit of an
- 21:09issue and most people that I talked with considered a bit of
- 21:12an issue and didn't really have a lot of fun, at least on the
- 21:16single target process and stuff like that.
- 21:18So just kind of a question, right?
- 21:21Like we are obviously not the only class, not the only spec
- 21:25that kind of has like this charity ranged approach.
- 21:27If you look at something like destruction Warlock or
- 21:29something, or Warlock in general, I guess they're also
- 21:32just sit there and casting. I think that they have some
- 21:36better tools. I think that circle is generally
- 21:39a bit better than most of the stuff that we have access to.
- 21:43But at the end of the day, in my opinion at least, they often get
- 21:47balanced around the fact that they have to move as much,
- 21:50right? Like even if they lose a lot of
- 21:52cars, they still do good damage. And yeah, I mean, there has
- 21:57basically been no balancing at all on the PTR and on the beta,
- 22:01right? There was basically no damage
- 22:04shuffling for the specs, no aura adjustments, nothing.
- 22:08Which will be a bit interesting when we patch in our launches,
- 22:12but we will see about that one. So it's really hard to say
- 22:16whether Blizzard, I mean Blizzard is keeping that in
- 22:18mind, right? Like they are aware of that, but
- 22:20like how aggressively they want to compensate for that.
- 22:24We will see. I mean, it's the same thing.
- 22:26I like they have communicated that there is a shift in like
- 22:30how they design weight losses, how they design Mythic plus
- 22:33around the loss in utility. And if you look at something
- 22:38like destruction, I don't know that much about it, but to my
- 22:43understanding at least they lose like some of their shadow burns,
- 22:47all of their shadow burns, stuff like that.
- 22:48They do lose some of the instant cast.
- 22:50So they also lose like mobility. So we are definitely not the
- 22:55only ones with that issue. But I mean, if you compare that
- 23:00to like a mage who still can just blink everywhere all the
- 23:04time back and just do like ridiculous stuff, yeah, it's
- 23:09it's concerning. I am concerned.
- 23:12OK, So you're looking at this not like where we went from like
- 23:19Mr. Pandaria, where we could just cast like most of our
- 23:22rotation on the move to Warlords.
- 23:25It's not it's it's not that kind of pain.
- 23:28You do feel like that they haven't properly compensated for
- 23:30it? Yeah, I mean, we're not going
- 23:33from like BM level mobilities to still kind of good mobility,
- 23:38right. We're going to yeah, pretty all
- 23:40right. I mean, to be fair, we are
- 23:43reasonably mobile with like Ice Sphere and all the things right
- 23:46now. And but like where we're going
- 23:50to, I don't think there is a lot in terms of mobility.
- 23:55I think that it will be an issue, I think, especially
- 23:59because I mean it might not be actually true, but I think that
- 24:04Blizzard is trying to design the games a bit more like player
- 24:08friendly, a bit more like beginner friendly, right.
- 24:11So making the skill requirement so much higher in terms of just
- 24:17silent movement, min maxing mobility, right?
- 24:21Like every single time someone comes to me or to the discord or
- 24:24something and asks hey, how can I improve?
- 24:27Hey, what am I doing wrong? My damage isn't there.
- 24:29I don't know what what's happening.
- 24:31I'm following the guide and you can just see maybe they aren't
- 24:34following it one to one. Maybe there's some minor
- 24:37mistakes, but usually the issue is that they are just not
- 24:39casting. They're just moving places.
- 24:41They just go into Ghost Wharf and just walk around for like 10
- 24:44or 15 seconds, which like at that point you can't really do
- 24:47damage, right? That's kind of how that works.
- 24:51But yeah, so if they're making movement harder on the player, I
- 24:54think that's very quickly. A lot of the like beginner
- 24:59player base, a lot of the like lower end player base will run
- 25:02into issues. Obviously like DPS doesn't
- 25:05really matter that much and like normal or heroic rates, right,
- 25:11because you will probably never see a an NRH or something.
- 25:15But I do think that it will just feel bad, right?
- 25:17Like if you are so immobile that you can't really perform well
- 25:20and all of the other specs, maybe not all the other specs
- 25:23are like BM's, majors, whoever else just have a much easier
- 25:28time compensating or much easier time just being able to move,
- 25:31then you will just lose a lot of players.
- 25:34I think they will just we will. I think they will just go
- 25:36somewhere else. OK, yeah, that's definitely
- 25:39true. If it's not even across the the
- 25:43field, it it just feels like you're going to see a lot of
- 25:46people move, move away. Throughout the war within shaman
- 25:53has been in relatively good, if not grotesquely overpowered
- 25:58situations, especially when I forget what the talent was that
- 26:02like reduced all nature spells and so we could single handedly
- 26:05interrupt and they got rid of flash.
- 26:10Thank you. And they've got they got rid of
- 26:13that. So like again, we we needed it.
- 26:15We needed a team. But in terms of this this
- 26:18movement issue, do you think it is an all or nothing?
- 26:22Do you think it might be something where we're hoping
- 26:26that these procs start stacking up so that when we get to start
- 26:31standing and delivering again, we get a little bit more damage?
- 26:35Because there are there are classes where they have burst
- 26:39windows. And so as long as that burst
- 26:40window isn't interrupted, you're still going to keep up and
- 26:43damage. There are classes that can just
- 26:45consistently deal damage. Where's elemental standing right
- 26:49now? Is it closer to 1 or the other?
- 26:52Yeah, you're thinking about like the old school fire mage, right?
- 26:55Or like they do damage for like 15 seconds and then they just
- 26:58run around for like 2 minutes when nothing matters because
- 27:01it's basically like 10% of their overall DPS outside of cool
- 27:05lands, right? But yeah, with Midnight, we also
- 27:08got quite significant nerves to Ascendance, right?
- 27:12So Ascendance has previously buffed all overloads by 150%
- 27:18that has been slashed 275, which is probably reasonable, right?
- 27:23Like with the new Ibex Apex talents, we get generally more
- 27:27overloads and all of that. And they also compensated
- 27:30generally, right? Like the the top end.
- 27:34So with the 75%, the overload still deal as much damage now as
- 27:40they did with the 150 before because they just buffed the
- 27:44baseline, right? So they did compensate in that
- 27:49sense, but that just means they took damage outs out of the
- 27:53cooldown window, right? How exactly that's going to work
- 27:59is speed up in the air, because we haven't finished implementing
- 28:03The Sims and all of that, right? So it's reasonable to say right
- 28:08now that we might, for example, be playing the two-minute
- 28:11Descendants because they changed our elementals, right?
- 28:15Previously, we could change, we could choose one of the
- 28:18elementals. It was like a 2.5 minute
- 28:20cooldown. We just put them down.
- 28:22He did his thing. Storm Elemental gave us some
- 28:26haste these days. Earlier was like a cast time
- 28:29reduction, which got a little crazy at times, but that's also
- 28:35for a different time of place. I, I I.
- 28:39Know you want to say it's a different time of place, but I
- 28:41feel like it's worth mentioning that the, the change to a haste
- 28:46buff instead of the further and further stacking cast time
- 28:53reduction just feels like such a loss of skill expression because
- 28:57you would, you would line up your, your cooldowns.
- 29:00You would, without going into the bug about about that, but
- 29:03you would line up your cooldowns, you'd get 3 instant
- 29:06casts right when you right when you sent that and that would get
- 29:09you going immediately. And then they cut it down so you
- 29:13could only stack it up to to a certain point because there was
- 29:16too many button presses in a short window and now it's a
- 29:19haste buff. So like that feels like a loss
- 29:24of skill. Expression, yeah, like as a
- 29:26short explanation, right? Like you.
- 29:28Normally the way World of Warcraft works is that you can
- 29:30stake haste up to like 100% and half the cool your GCD right
- 29:33from 1.5 forecast is down to .75.
- 29:37And on top of that you could then stake cast time reduction.
- 29:43So if memory serves we had 40% cast time reduction, right?
- 29:46So we could cast the lightning bolt every .4 seconds I think.
- 29:53And we had that up basically 100% of rate fights.
- 29:56So you just had to like do 2.5 button presses per second, which
- 30:03is, is a form of skill expression, I guess, but might
- 30:06not be the most, yeah, the the most sensible thing, the most
- 30:12healthy thing. Yeah, but I'm not particularly
- 30:15against it. Right.
- 30:15Like it's also one of the things where you just ignore everything
- 30:18else. You're not even pressing your
- 30:19spenders at some point because you're just spamming your
- 30:22generator because it's so fast. So just do that.
- 30:26But yeah, so they slash that in half at 1st and then at some
- 30:29point they rework that to haste, right.
- 30:32So it just kind of covers everything or covered everything
- 30:35now. But yeah, so they just said, OK,
- 30:39we're just going to remove the elementals as their own button,
- 30:42which fair enough, right? Like we have 3 minute
- 30:45descendants or two-minute descendants and then the 2.5
- 30:48minute cool down on top of that. So we're just going to delay
- 30:50that to 3 minutes all the time, Probably some, but then also
- 30:55faster reduces that further. So it's less than 2.5 and then
- 31:00nothing lines up and you're just confused, like doesn't really
- 31:04know what it wants to be. And it also wasn't particularly
- 31:07impactful anymore after all of the nerves.
- 31:10So how they did it now is that they just bound the fire
- 31:14elemental to ascendance. So if you press ascendance, you
- 31:17get the fire elemental. And when you press Stormkeeper,
- 31:20you don't get the lightning elemental anymore, you get the
- 31:22storm elemental now. And they just removed the haste
- 31:26from that storm elemental because with how often we're
- 31:30able to cast storm Keeper now, it's probably better to just
- 31:34have the pet and not have haste on top of that.
- 31:38Yeah, like some of that doesn't really work the way you want it
- 31:41to, right? Like fire mental extends your
- 31:44dots every newly applied flame shock and ascendance also
- 31:50applies flame shocks, but it applies to flame shocks first
- 31:52and then spawns the pets right now.
- 31:54So you just don't get the extended duration and stuff like
- 31:56that, which is just just feels weird.
- 32:00Just kind of, I don't know if that's an oversight or just like
- 32:02a mistake. I couldn't tell you.
- 32:06Yeah. So kind of getting away from all
- 32:08of that, those things, right? Like where, for example, storm
- 32:11elemental so strongly just only pressing lightning board or like
- 32:15fire mental being completely useless.
- 32:18Basically like the the thing that's 3% of the overall damage
- 32:21or something, maybe 5. So now they actually buffed that
- 32:25quite substantially, whether it's worth to play like all of
- 32:29the pet talents, Probably not really, but at least it feels
- 32:34like it does something now. And also it's just kind of
- 32:36automatically lines up now because if you press the button,
- 32:39both things happen, Descendants and the Filamento.
- 32:41So you're not just trying to work around that and
- 32:44everything's just kind of weird. And I mean, it's one of the
- 32:49stated design goals. So like every time you have to
- 32:52press 2 buttons always at the same time, why just not turn
- 32:55that into one button, right? Like why not make the macro that
- 32:58you're going to use anyway just into a thing that the game just
- 33:01gives you most? Definitely there was also in
- 33:10single target. Do you want an elemental blast?
- 33:12Do you want to do you want to send the shock?
- 33:15Now obviously air shock will help more in a in a movement
- 33:19heavy fight, but the bounce between those has always been
- 33:22like a a strange thing in midnight.
- 33:24Is it are they still competitive with each other?
- 33:27Is there a use case for both or currently?
- 33:30I guess this is something that would roll out in The Sims, but
- 33:34ideally where would you want it to be?
- 33:36I mean, honestly, even if Elemental Blast would be better
- 33:40in single target, you're not going to play that like you.
- 33:43You need to go places, you need to move.
- 33:45So just having an instant cast as a spender is definitely the
- 33:49better choice over just sitting there and casting another cast
- 33:54like an elemental blast for two seconds.
- 33:55Right? Because what would that leave
- 33:57lead you? You could use your storm keeper,
- 34:00whatever the coolerness with all the Cdr toes these days, kind of
- 34:04hard to figure out. Let's say every 30 seconds or
- 34:07something for like 2-3 instant cars depending on if you have
- 34:13like Tia or something. And then you also have a lava
- 34:18search which blocks every 2015 to 20 seconds, right?
- 34:24So if you have like 3 instant cars every 30 seconds or
- 34:28something, that might be not enough.
- 34:31I think so, yeah. You will definitely play your
- 34:34shock there for AOE for Mythic. Plus it's a bit up in the air
- 34:39because Elemental Blast is really strong.
- 34:42And the big problem with Elemental Blast for rate is also
- 34:48that Farseer, the expiring Farseers also caused Elemental
- 34:53Blast, right? So you get the stats anyway.
- 34:56So I'm getting even more stats. At some point you're just going
- 34:58to cap out. You just have all of them.
- 35:01And similarly, because overloads also count and with the Apex
- 35:07sounds, we're going to get overloads on all overloads.
- 35:11You will probably have enough of those just by default.
- 35:15But yeah, so we will see in Mythic Plus when you're playing
- 35:19like Stormbringer or something like that, whether it's worth to
- 35:22just get the extra stats. But to be fair, like they've
- 35:28changed fusion, the spell I mentioned earlier where Ice Fury
- 35:32kind of had these things that just would prock an elemental
- 35:35blast at some point, now that ICU doesn't exist, can't really
- 35:38do that anymore. So there's also another talent
- 35:42called Power of the Malstrom, which like every time you cast
- 35:45lava burst, you have a chance for the next lightning bolt or
- 35:47chain lightning to overload an additional time.
- 35:51And that also triggers fusion now.
- 35:53And because we are actually lava bursting in AOE again, we just
- 35:56get it that way. We get Elemental Blast in AOE,
- 36:01so we do still have some of them.
- 36:05Whether that's going to be too many already to also pick
- 36:09Elemental Blast as like a cast is yet to be seen.
- 36:14Like, yeah, not. Really true.
- 36:18The value of the choice is being diminished by the fact that
- 36:20you're getting it anyways from all these other sources.
- 36:25Yeah. Speaking about value, we sort of
- 36:30mentioned it, but we should say it out loud for listeners.
- 36:33Tell us about the Apex talent and the the love of overloads.
- 36:38All right, so yeah, let me actually get that, pull that up
- 36:45so I can actually have correct numbers on that one.
- 36:49The name is feedback loop, right?
- 36:50I, I don't know if everyone's aware of how the apex sounds
- 36:54work right? Blizzard just changed it.
- 36:56Like there's an extra node at the bottom of the tree now with
- 36:59like a zero out of four. It's like an extra circle.
- 37:02And the whole idea is that you can put four points into it.
- 37:06The first point, the 2nd and the 3rd together, and the third is
- 37:11like 3 different talents. I I think this is a very poor
- 37:16way to phrase it. But like the first point you put
- 37:19into feedback loop gives you extra elemental overload damage,
- 37:23the second point gives you extra quick chance and quick damage,
- 37:27and the last point gives you I think it's a 50% chance for all
- 37:30of your overloads to then trigger more overloads.
- 37:34I haven't actually have had the time to completely test that how
- 37:39that actually works. Because right now right?
- 37:41Like a normal spell, a normal lightning bolt can overload,
- 37:45then Descendants gives it an extra overload so it overloads
- 37:48twice, then Power of the Maelstrom can make it overload
- 37:50an additional time so that's three times, and then
- 37:52Supercharge can make it overload 1/4 time.
- 37:55If every one of these roles now has a 50% to also overload, so
- 38:00you could have 8 overloads on one singular spell cast, that
- 38:04would be a lot. And I've never seen that in any
- 38:06of the logs I looked at or any of the testing that I've done.
- 38:09So I don't think that is actually works that way.
- 38:14The assumption right now would just be that it does like a 50%
- 38:17role on every one of them up until it like succeeds, right?
- 38:21And so it's like kept at one additional overload.
- 38:24That would be the assumption. That's usually how it sounds
- 38:26like these work, but I honestly don't even know because it's not
- 38:29on the pre patch. So I still have time until the
- 38:31actual expansion launches to figure out exactly how that
- 38:34works. But anyway, no, it's it's part
- 38:39of what I said, right? Like, well, we just put even
- 38:42more emphasis on overloads. We have a chance to get more
- 38:45overloads from the town and also the overloads are doing more
- 38:48damage. So that just kind of makes it
- 38:52feel or it makes it look better because overloads of the
- 38:55animation. So I like, it's just kind of the
- 38:57thing that elemental does, just have more of everything pretty.
- 39:02Much that turrent set up. I mean it's the same thing for
- 39:07like the quid right? Normally in World of Warcraft a
- 39:10quid does double damage. Do you have an the idea how much
- 39:14damage to quit from elemento shaman does now?
- 39:17I thought it was 250%, but now that you've got that scaling on
- 39:22top of it, I, I, I don't know. Yeah, Yeah, it goes up to 300%
- 39:28now, right? Like just from or 325, even just
- 39:32from your normal talents, you get like an extra 50% and then
- 39:35an additional 25% on top of that.
- 39:37It's like for elemental shaman and normal quit value would be
- 39:40like 200 a math 100 to 75%. And now you then get like 50% or
- 39:492 * 25% on top of that. So yeah, like you get two 325%
- 39:55quit damage on all of your spells and then you have
- 39:58something. They change Lava Burst now,
- 40:00because Lava Burst always quits, right?
- 40:03So usually we had like a problem where quit was very bad because
- 40:07it always quit anyway, so just get other stats.
- 40:13But now that spell also scales with quit chance.
- 40:16So lava Burst might just be doing like 380 four 100% quit
- 40:22damage or something. Now, which that is a lot, I'm
- 40:26not entirely sure. But yeah, I mean, high numbers
- 40:31are fun. And I don't think it's actually
- 40:33going to be much of A like gambling issue, like on G issue
- 40:36where you just sit there like, oh, I didn't quit on my spell.
- 40:38So now I don't do any damage, right?
- 40:39Like we have so many instances, so many cars, so many things
- 40:44happening that just kind of normalizes pretty easily, right?
- 40:48And we don't really rely on quits for anything mechanical,
- 40:51right? Like we're not saying like I
- 40:53need a quit for my thing to proc because otherwise I can't press
- 40:56my button because things like that just kind of lead to issue,
- 41:00lead to very big swinginess at times.
- 41:02So I like fire mage had that problem historically where like
- 41:06if you didn't have enough quid to actually get like your
- 41:08pyroblasts up and your hot streaks and everything, you just
- 41:13couldn't really do much, which not really the case anymore.
- 41:17They kind of worked around there now.
- 41:20But yeah, so like a lot of the numbers things or something look
- 41:24very crazy now because of all of the additional multipliers on
- 41:30top of each other. But yeah, so Apex talents, I
- 41:36think they designed it with the goal in mind to have those
- 41:39always be picked. And I think they succeeded, at
- 41:41least for Elemental, which would be kind of a shame, right?
- 41:45Like you could just write purely mechanically.
- 41:49You could just ignore it and just put more spell more points
- 41:52into the bottom of the tree normally, but if you have like
- 41:56this new shiny thing and just completely ignore it, that would
- 41:59be kind of a waste. Yeah, I, I, I'd like that.
- 42:03It's definitely something that people would love to to play
- 42:08around with. And so far shamans have been
- 42:12winning with that two out of three.
- 42:15We'll see what happens when we get over to Resto, but is there
- 42:20build where you could see working without it?
- 42:24It just seems so good that like it would almost feel foolhardy
- 42:29not to use it. I mean the problem isn't even
- 42:33how good it is, the problem is just how bad everything else is.
- 42:39We are sitting in the situation right now where I'm thinking or
- 42:42whether currently recommended build by us without Sims.
- 42:46Right? So we don't have the hard
- 42:47numbers on it, but the currently recommended build is taking
- 42:50voltaic place and purging flames in single target.
- 42:56Voltaic place is basically just a glorified flame shock right?
- 43:00Like it also does some damage, but because it doesn't really
- 43:03scale with everything because it's bucked, I guess it deals
- 43:08less than you would expect. And at the end of the day, it's
- 43:14not really that much damage. And then you'd take like purging
- 43:17flames, which is this, this new cleave talent, right?
- 43:22Which was like the primordial wave effect previously, where
- 43:25like the lava burst just hits all of the targets with a flame
- 43:29shock on it, which does nothing in single target from that
- 43:33cleave mechanic. But it also says lava burst
- 43:36damage increased by 10%. So that alone is probably enough
- 43:40to just have it be viable. Like the 3% DPS that you gain
- 43:43from this 10% buff. It's probably good enough.
- 43:48I mean, yeah, I guess that that's great if you're doing a
- 43:53fight like the tic tac toe boss in the in the new raid where
- 43:58early on it's single target. And so I guess this is good
- 44:00enough for single target. But as you get into the the
- 44:03cleave situation where the summoning, the ads, being able
- 44:06to use the enhanced flame, flame shock voltaic to to start on the
- 44:14that AOE, get the lava burst onto a bunch of them gives you
- 44:20like that AOE on demand on very short demand because the
- 44:23cooldown of voltaic is is quite low.
- 44:26So I guess that's good. But the fact that it's it's
- 44:29there even at a pure single target feels like you said, like
- 44:33the rest of the talents are lacking.
- 44:35So what could use the Shine for Elementals talents?
- 44:41I mean just just to mention it right, like because you said
- 44:46that you can just flexibly I, I forgot how you phrase this like
- 44:49you can just use the voltaic place to just dot them up
- 44:52immediately, which is technically true, but also not
- 44:56really right because flame shock has an 82nd 18 second duration,
- 45:01right? And the cooldown on voltaic
- 45:03place is 15 seconds. So you're basically pressing it
- 45:07on cool down just to keep the dot up in single target anyway,
- 45:11right? Because there's also no procs or
- 45:13anything anymore. Like show when you press
- 45:15ascendance you get your flame shock up and also you get the
- 45:18filamental. So you get like 1 double
- 45:20duration flame shock. But generally you always have to
- 45:23press it every 15 seconds just exactly there.
- 45:27So if you press it and then you have the ADS spawning like 8
- 45:31seconds later, well, that's kind of an issue, right?
- 45:35You can just not press it, I guess.
- 45:36And then you don't have a flame shock active, so you can't
- 45:39really press your lava burst anymore, which that's also
- 45:42awkward, right? Like a lot of people want to see
- 45:46flame shock come back. So Voltaic Place wouldn't
- 45:49replace flame shock entirely. It's just an additional button
- 45:52for that reason. So you just have it on.
- 45:54You have just flame shock readily available, maybe still
- 45:56with the short colon that it has right now, just use on the boss
- 46:01or something or on whatever main target.
- 46:03And then you just have that as like a cleafing or a wee thing,
- 46:06whatever you want to call it leads to some other issues
- 46:10technically. And I mean, the intended goal
- 46:13here is to kind of cut back on buttons.
- 46:14So it's just having like those redundant buttons just both
- 46:18living there on your boss. It's just kind of awkward.
- 46:22So I see why they didn't do it that way.
- 46:24I see why they haven't replaced that, but so yeah, just to
- 46:30mention that I kind of forgot what your your actual question
- 46:33was that you asked me. Could you repeat that?
- 46:35Do you remember? Oh man, we got so into the
- 46:37weeds, but it was basically what talents need the shine in order
- 46:43to give Elemental some some options like.
- 46:48Yeah. I mean, the, The thing is like
- 46:49we have what is it now 15 or so talents down in the bottom there
- 46:56and four of those nodes of all those points are just voltaic
- 47:00place. So the moment you decide I will
- 47:03not take voltaic place at all, you just kind of pick everything
- 47:06else. That's just kind of how that
- 47:08works out, right? Generally, you could probably
- 47:12say that all the pet talents, like what is it?
- 47:23Everlasting Elements, that's the name, increases the duration of
- 47:27the elemental slightly, and it basically just says they get one
- 47:30more cast in when they're alive, right?
- 47:33So for something like a fire elemental that gets spawned
- 47:36every 3 minutes, let's say, right, if you're not even
- 47:40playing all of the other elemental talents, just having
- 47:44like it does one more cast doesn't really matter that much.
- 47:49It's kind of a little disappointing, kind of
- 47:54questionable though, how many points you actually want to put
- 47:57into your passive pet talent. So I like, I do.
- 48:01I'm not the biggest fan of the elementals.
- 48:03I'm not the biggest fan of the pets.
- 48:05I do like the flavour that they give.
- 48:06I like the whole like, OK, we're drawing in the primal elementals
- 48:10and manifestations of them. It's just kind of cool, sure,
- 48:14but just have like the dude next to you is just casting emulated
- 48:18Fire blast or something and that's it.
- 48:21And then sometimes he just turns around because he doesn't find a
- 48:23way to actually get to the boss and just kind of fails.
- 48:27Like we added a lot of the time now in the War Within where I
- 48:31had friends that just sent me clips where like one of their
- 48:34elementals just balled into the last room in Priory and just
- 48:37pulled everything. We still don't know how that
- 48:40happened, but yeah, that happened consistently for some
- 48:45people. So yeah, like all of the pet
- 48:47talons kind of could use some love, in my opinion.
- 48:50Again, it would kind of make sense that it doesn't happen
- 48:54right now just because they want to have a lot of passive
- 48:57talents, right? And also they have reworked,
- 49:01removed, added a good few things, right?
- 49:05So at that point, you just kind of touch everything, which that
- 49:09was never expected to happen here, But yeah, so those talents
- 49:16could use some love. I mean, I'm personally not the
- 49:18biggest fan of all of the passive stat notes that they've
- 49:21that they're bringing in with Midnight.
- 49:23But like we have a talent that just gives you a 3% mastery,
- 49:26which another one that just gives you 3% haste, another one
- 49:32that increases your elemental damage by 2%, then another one
- 49:34that gives you 3% more elemental damage and all of that.
- 49:39So all of those, well, it's like, here's a number you doubt
- 49:44deal 2% more damage. OK, I guess that's fine.
- 49:49I guess having cursive talents is kind of OK, but also it's
- 49:53kind of uninteresting. We've gotten 3 new talents and
- 49:59each of the hero talents, are those much the same sort of
- 50:03passive, uninteresting ones, or are there any highlights in
- 50:06those? I guess start with the Farsi
- 50:10year. Yeah, I mean, Farcia is pretty
- 50:13boring, right? Farcia, one of them now now
- 50:18names, I think it's Mystic Knowledge gives you 1% intellect
- 50:22per active ancestor, right? So generally you have like your
- 50:28ancestor Swiftness and your Stormkeeper, both of them spawn
- 50:30once you have 2% more into the 2% more damage.
- 50:33Great. OK.
- 50:35Then. You can also just randomly spawn
- 50:37more still, so sometimes it might be 3%, but yeah, so that's
- 50:43pretty boring in my opinion. Then you have another one that's
- 50:49called Windspeaker, which basically just reduces some cast
- 50:52times by 10%, including Lava Burst.
- 50:56Can you notice that? Yes.
- 50:58If I take the tone point out and then put it back in and just sit
- 51:01there and just compare those two cast times, I will be able to
- 51:04notice. But in normal gameplay also just
- 51:08becomes normal, right? Like if, if every if if it's
- 51:11always 10% faster than just the new cast time of it.
- 51:13It's just there and then the last point just gives you like
- 51:20an extra 20% proc way proc chance for lava surges, which
- 51:25doesn't mean that it goes from 10 to 30%.
- 51:27It just means it goes from 11:50 as far as we can tell, which I
- 51:33don't really notice the difference.
- 51:35Right? Like if it's if I get a pluck
- 51:37every, what is it in 20 seconds or every 18?
- 51:42Not really something that I can personally notice.
- 51:46Oh, sorry, go on. Sorry, I think it the only time
- 51:51that like, like obviously you're going to have all these talents
- 51:54and so you won't notice it, but it it'll make a difference if
- 51:59the proc comes up earlier when you're when you're dealing with
- 52:03movement. But it's because this change is
- 52:05so small and so passive and so unnoticeable.
- 52:10Yeah. Like it's OK.
- 52:14We were about to go over to Stormbringer.
- 52:16Any better talents there? Yeah.
- 52:18Yeah, I do think so. Right.
- 52:19Like the first town Stormwell basically just says casting
- 52:24Stormkeeper gives you 10 maelstrom and your storm
- 52:27elemental, which is spawned by casting Stormkeeper last two
- 52:30seconds longer, 2 seconds, right?
- 52:32Like it's, it's a cast doesn't really matter much.
- 52:34But having some actual milestone generation, having something
- 52:38happen when you press a button like Stormkeeper is kind of
- 52:40neat. Don't think it necessarily
- 52:44needed it, but I mean, it's generally a thing that they want
- 52:47to do and a thing that I appreciate.
- 52:49Well, like they say, don't just have empty globals, right?
- 52:51We're not sitting there and press a button and then nothing
- 52:54happens and then I press another button and then the thing
- 52:56happens. But just every button is
- 52:58supposed to have immediate feedback, which I think is
- 53:01reasonable for a game like this, right?
- 53:04The second talent, I don't even remember the name, it's just 2%
- 53:08nature damage. Yeah, wasn't really too much,
- 53:11not really interesting. The last one is called
- 53:13Descending Skies, and they basically took the idea from our
- 53:17current tier set. And every time you cast
- 53:21Descendants, you just get a Tempest, which that's kind of
- 53:26cool, all right? Like because when you play
- 53:30Stormbringer, you're kind of go fishing for Tempest before you
- 53:34press Ascendance anyway. But sometimes you just can't do
- 53:38that, right? Sometimes the proc just doesn't
- 53:39happen or something. So being able to just have the
- 53:43proc every time you press the button is just kind of neat.
- 53:48OK, yeah, that does sound better.
- 53:51On top of that though, I believe the way that Tempest now works
- 53:56for Elemental has changed. So like going from the War
- 54:03Within, how was it in the War Within and how is it now?
- 54:06Well, it hasn't really changed, but also it has, right?
- 54:10Like previously there were two different ways that you could
- 54:14get storm stormwater, like Tempest box, right?
- 54:17One of them was just like every 300 miles from spent you would
- 54:21get them, right? So what we did was like have
- 54:23counters there that just counted how many miles from you spend in
- 54:28like a run or something. And then that didn't really work
- 54:30sometimes. And the week ours were bugging
- 54:33out or the counting in game didn't really work and it was
- 54:36just kind of annoying. And then the other way was like
- 54:39every time you cast lightning mode or chain lightning, it was
- 54:42like an RPPM. So like a time normalized random
- 54:46effect that just poked something and that after you had was 3
- 54:58after poked 3 times, you just got The Tempest, right.
- 55:01So how it works now is that every time you spend Maelstrom,
- 55:06there's like a chance for it to happen.
- 55:07That scales with how much milestone we spend, right?
- 55:09So if it's a more expensive thing, it's more likely.
- 55:12So it's basically the same idea as deeply rooted elements, the
- 55:17sentence book that we had in War Within.
- 55:23So just like a mixed mash of different things.
- 55:26It just kind of feels the same still because you you press your
- 55:29spender, you get The Tempest at some point right?
- 55:31Too much. If that's also normalized, I
- 55:33would. Assume that it is at this point,
- 55:35because most things Blizzards has in terms of RNG now I'll
- 55:38just kind of forced to have procs after a certain amount of
- 55:42time or something like that, right?
- 55:44Because being completely swingy, like sometimes you just sit
- 55:47there, press your spend the three times you just have 3
- 55:50Tempest and sometimes you just press it 10 times and nothing
- 55:53happens at all. So.
- 55:56Yeah, that. Was changed.
- 55:59I do think that it's for the better generally because sitting
- 56:05there with the 300 counter, for example, right?
- 56:08Like if you are at the end of a poll and you're sitting at 280
- 56:13spend and you know, like the next time you press your
- 56:15earthquake or whatever, you will get this this proc, but you're
- 56:19just sitting there like fighting one enemy.
- 56:21So what do you do? We just not pressing your
- 56:23spending anymore. That's not really good
- 56:26generally, whether the change. Actually solves that.
- 56:33Is it? Is written more different piece,
- 56:36right? Because we found out.
- 56:40On. The guy in the discord arc found
- 56:43out that deeply rooted elements is based on like a deck of cards
- 56:48thing right? So you know, like every time or
- 56:50every, I don't remember the numbers of the top right now,
- 56:53every 30 times you press your spender you would get 2 procs or
- 56:55something like that, right? It's kind of the idea so.
- 57:02We just started. Tracking that with we.
- 57:04Goers. So we just could tell, hey, we
- 57:07cannot get an ascendance block now or we have to get one now.
- 57:10So if we were highly likely to get one at the end of a pack, we
- 57:13just would stop spending. And if we knew that we couldn't
- 57:17get one, we would just try to get more spenders out to just
- 57:19psyche through that really quick to try to get the deck stack,
- 57:25yeah, for the next pack, right. And yeah.
- 57:30All of that kind of thing. Might still exist now with
- 57:33Tempest, right? We haven't really looked much
- 57:36into how the randomness works there, but you can assume that
- 57:41if it's worded the same way and just kind of works the same way
- 57:43that it might just use the same RNG, right?
- 57:46So that's a bit of a concern, but other than that it's just
- 57:52generally better now. OK, so then with.
- 57:56All those concerns with the way that it had to be tracked, does
- 58:01elemental lose out more than most classes with the changes to
- 58:04the API? The quote UN quote add on
- 58:08Apocalypse well. I don't think so.
- 58:15All of the things that we wanted to track are just kind of gone
- 58:18now. There are some things.
- 58:22Like. I alluded to it a few times
- 58:25like. Lava Search.
- 58:26Kind of works in a way that system you can just kind of
- 58:29predict when your procs are happening.
- 58:32We have never really tracked that because it's just kind of
- 58:35annoying and no one really likes it.
- 58:38We would have probably started tracking it in midnight because
- 58:41there's really nothing else to track and really nothing else to
- 58:44do. But now we can't.
- 58:45So I guess that's fine. And all of the box or the weird
- 58:53mechanics or the things that Blizzard didn't allow us to
- 58:55track that we had, we got us to work around, they just removed
- 58:57now. So now with the new system.
- 59:02Like the deck? Of card thing that I talked
- 59:05about right now with Tempest, right, like being able to track
- 59:07that would be kind of nice. You probably could still track
- 59:12that if you're just kind of degenerate enough and just kind
- 59:16of have like an extra button that just tells you, hey, I just
- 59:18got a Tempest, right, so you could just macro more things.
- 59:21And it's that that's my concern for all that.
- 59:24I don't apocalypse thing, right? Like we are where people just
- 59:27are not going to sit there and just accept it.
- 59:30But we'll just try to work around everything.
- 59:33I know that we like in preparation for this, we had a
- 59:36few conversations about like ways people figured out how to
- 59:40kind of bypass and circumvent some of the things that Blizzard
- 59:43try to not really allow you to do.
- 59:48So I'm just kind of. Concerned that we have.
- 59:51To or that people will do stuff like that.
- 59:54But I mean, at some point you're just going to have to blame the
- 59:56player for that, right? I mean, game design only goes so
- 59:59far. If people want to be degenerate
- 1:00:00about it, they will always be. And if at the end of the day,
- 1:00:04they have to use like ACT like this Final Fantasy thing that
- 1:00:07just reads your network traffic and reads your screen and just
- 1:00:11kind of does all of that, which is against TOS, right?
- 1:00:15Like it's, it's technically not allowed for either final or for
- 1:00:18World of Warcraft, but we will probably start doing that at
- 1:00:21some point if the if the gain that they can get from it is
- 1:00:25high enough, right? I don't think that's actually
- 1:00:28the case for Elemental right now.
- 1:00:30I am personally kind of sad about losing some of the new
- 1:00:34ones, losing some of that whole thing and because you were
- 1:00:38talking about like. The add on Apocalypse.
- 1:00:40Specifically some of the cooldown manager settings and
- 1:00:42all of that don't really mesh well with like tracking debuffs
- 1:00:47and stuff like that. So like before take place.
- 1:00:49And if you're just trying to figure out, OK, what's my flame
- 1:00:51shock duration, when should I refresh?
- 1:00:53What's the pandemic when, when? No, I'd like the point where I
- 1:00:56have to reapply the dot to not lose any value out of that.
- 1:01:01You can't really do that anymore.
- 1:01:03They just kind of don't track that well enough in my opinion.
- 1:01:08I'm not I I haven't researched enough to know whether there's
- 1:01:12like an add on that does it at this point already or I wouldn't
- 1:01:17expect that to be. I don't think it you can
- 1:01:19actually do that, but either they're going to relax those
- 1:01:23restrictions a bit or maybe someone will find a workaround
- 1:01:27or it's just how we're going to have to live now, right?
- 1:01:30It is a. It is a hard thing.
- 1:01:33Even though we're only one dot, so you would think that it would
- 1:01:36be fairly easy for us. The problem with the variable
- 1:01:39length when you can have the elemental extend extended means
- 1:01:43that you can't simply say like, hey, after I send it, let's say
- 1:01:4915 seconds later, it's now in pandemic window.
- 1:01:51Because if you've doubled that, that distance, sorry, that
- 1:01:55duration, you're, you're clipping a lot.
- 1:01:57So yeah, it is hard for elemental shaman.
- 1:02:02But like I think we would be doing a disservice if we didn't
- 1:02:06talk about elementals, defensives and where that is
- 1:02:10with the war, with the war then going into midnight.
- 1:02:14So I'll give you the floor for this one.
- 1:02:17Yeah, I mean, it's part of the whole pruning, right?
- 1:02:19Like. Generally, I think it's fair to
- 1:02:21say that most specs, if not all specs, lost some defensive
- 1:02:24capabilities. The problem is just where do you
- 1:02:27start, right? Like for Elemental, we started
- 1:02:30with, well, two, let's say. 3 defensives, right?
- 1:02:38We have Astral Shift which is our main defensive.
- 1:02:40It's like 2 minute cooldown reduces all damage by 40%.
- 1:02:44It's generally pretty good with the choice talent I know.
- 1:02:48You can either buff it so. It reduces more damage or you
- 1:02:52reduce it down to a minute 30, which most often you do that
- 1:02:55because 40% basically covers everything dangerous in the
- 1:02:58game. But like if you don't live it
- 1:03:01with a 40%, you're also going to live with a 60% Dr., So whatever
- 1:03:07the second thing that. We have.
- 1:03:09Or had and have Is the F elemental right like the F
- 1:03:14elemental when you summon it will give you what is it now 10%
- 1:03:19HP or is it drop 1515 still? Yeah. 15, yeah.
- 1:03:27OK, they changed it previously. Was like a 5 minute.
- 1:03:29Cooldown and with a one minute duration.
- 1:03:31Now it's through 2.5 minute cooldown with a 3 minute
- 1:03:36cooldown with a 32nd duration. I think that's correct and also.
- 1:03:42They took the. Health gain out of the elemental
- 1:03:45and put that into an extra talent node.
- 1:03:46So you just kind of have to take an extra talent now, which it
- 1:03:50doesn't really matter. We're not really start 4 points
- 1:03:52in the class 3, but it's just kind of awkward that you have to
- 1:03:55pick talents now for things that you had previously, I guess.
- 1:03:58But I don't personally care much for that kind of logic, so.
- 1:04:05The problem with that? Notice that it also turns off
- 1:04:07your taunt for the pet right? Like previously when you were
- 1:04:11dying in the dungeon or like your tank died, you just press
- 1:04:14earth elemental and it's probably going to live for like
- 1:04:175 seconds, maybe 10 which is usually enough for a tank to.
- 1:04:22Get rest and cast. Like something to maybe try to
- 1:04:27get some aggro back or something.
- 1:04:30I definitely found a full wipe, yeah.
- 1:04:35I mean. I definitely use it a lot for
- 1:04:37that during my bugging areas or eras.
- 1:04:42So yeah, like. Now with it.
- 1:04:44Not being able to taunt. Anymore.
- 1:04:45I mean you can still summon it, it just doesn't do anything.
- 1:04:48If your tank dies, you will just die anyway, so kind of a bit of
- 1:04:54a loss there. Or you.
- 1:04:55Just keep it having the taunt and then you just don't get the
- 1:04:58HP, which maybe that's a choice for my big plus.
- 1:05:01But then you just lost your defensive right?
- 1:05:04And thirdly, like the actual defence that we lost, stumble
- 1:05:08walk told him gave us a shield, not the biggest shield ever.
- 1:05:12Think it was like 2025% of your health or something like that.
- 1:05:15And then it also gave you like a ticking shield every few
- 1:05:18seconds. So what's kind of need against
- 1:05:20like damage overtime effects? Not really the best spell to
- 1:05:24save you from like a nuke for like a big damage event, but
- 1:05:28usually it's served you well enough.
- 1:05:31That's completely removed now, right?
- 1:05:33Which turns really quickly into an issue if you also go to that,
- 1:05:37that our self healing basically doesn't exist.
- 1:05:40I'm not entirely sure how this that squish affected that, but
- 1:05:43like our self healing is pitiful now.
- 1:05:45Like we just can't do anything with it to my understanding.
- 1:05:51Enhancement, at least, can. Still heal themselves with
- 1:05:55maelstrom weapons weapon stacks. But the way that it works now is
- 1:05:59you spend and then your healing Search afterwards, right?
- 1:06:03So you're just kind of sit there and just have to also have it so
- 1:06:07late that it doesn't really save you in the moment anymore.
- 1:06:09You have to prepare it and then it's late anyway.
- 1:06:12We're here to talk about elemental.
- 1:06:16So for us, Healing Stream Totem doesn't do anything.
- 1:06:18Healing Search doesn't do anything.
- 1:06:20The only extra thing that we got is some or two new talents about
- 1:06:26Earth Shield or like Earth Shields put on yourself.
- 1:06:30It has like 9 stacks, maybe 12 if you're suspect into that, and
- 1:06:35every time you take damage it heals.
- 1:06:36You for a bit. And there's a new talent that
- 1:06:39just says it never loses stacks and to heals you for 15 more
- 1:06:42percent. Is it a lot?
- 1:06:45No. Really isn't anything to write
- 1:06:47home about, No. Currently, because of some
- 1:06:52clever use of game mechanics, you can just kind of double the
- 1:06:56healing output from Earth Shield, which makes it at least
- 1:07:02worth a a mention. But that's a bug and I don't
- 1:07:05really expect that to stay in for Midnight, so I think they
- 1:07:09need to make it a default behavior.
- 1:07:11It's worthless. Without it, I'm sorry.
- 1:07:15I like. Yeah.
- 1:07:18Anyways, go ahead. No, go on.
- 1:07:18No. It's it's such an anemic heel.
- 1:07:25Even if it just stays on and every time there is a damage
- 1:07:29event, because it does have its own internal cooldown, you're
- 1:07:31not going to catch every damage event, right?
- 1:07:33But every time you you have a damage event, you get a little
- 1:07:36bit more health back. It's still not doing it.
- 1:07:42Like I don't think a healer is going to notice the difference
- 1:07:45between somebody who's got an earth shield on and somebody who
- 1:07:47doesn't in terms of like 2 shamans standing beside each
- 1:07:51other. And it that is with such a waste
- 1:07:55of talents. That you're putting into it and.
- 1:07:57Such a waste of a button press if you so happen to go with the
- 1:08:00other choice, which I'll leave for you to explain.
- 1:08:03Oh yeah. I mean, it's it's basically the
- 1:08:05question I. Like either you're going to have
- 1:08:07the thing where it just doesn't lose any sticks, so you just
- 1:08:10have it on yourself. You heal, I don't know, maybe a
- 1:08:13health ball over 5 minute fight or something.
- 1:08:15I honestly don't even know the number for that.
- 1:08:18But as you said, like 3 seconds. I think it's the internal
- 1:08:20cooldown, so every 3 seconds you can heal at all.
- 1:08:24Which the next question is OK. Do you even take damage every 3
- 1:08:27seconds on the fight? Like smaller one or slotch fist
- 1:08:31or something like that where you have like the permanent AOE just
- 1:08:34ticking on you? Yes you will just completely
- 1:08:38saturate that ICD. You will just get to heal all
- 1:08:41the time and even then it's kind of bad right?
- 1:08:44But in a normal fight where you just take damage every so often,
- 1:08:49it's just kind of useless, right?
- 1:08:50And then you're also saying that like, OK.
- 1:08:52With Farcier, if you're specced into that choice, note you go
- 1:08:57out from 9:00 to 12:00 charges, but like after you got healed 12
- 1:09:01times you're going to have to press the button again, right?
- 1:09:04I mean, technically you can't even have.
- 1:09:06The Earth shield on 2. People but just don't bother.
- 1:09:09I mean, put it on there pre combat, I guess, but other than
- 1:09:12that it's just there's really no point, right?
- 1:09:16The alternative choice note on that right now is something
- 1:09:19where like every time you refresh Earth Shield, you just
- 1:09:22get like a big heal depending on how many charges you're missing,
- 1:09:27whether that's going to be. Useful or not is also kind.
- 1:09:30Of up in the air, because I mean, it's probably it's
- 1:09:33probably nice if it's if it works, it works.
- 1:09:36So I like if you need a heal and your sex are low and you can
- 1:09:39just press the button and you just get like a pick like 30,000
- 1:09:44HP heal or something after the scratch that squish.
- 1:09:47That's kind of cool. But also if you're saying that
- 1:09:50if you have 11 charges or something of the 12 and then you
- 1:09:53press the button, nothing happens, All right.
- 1:09:56If you have to actually have it expire, nothing happens if you
- 1:09:59have to refresh it when you're full HP or you just don't need
- 1:10:02the heal immediately yet I mean you get healed sure, but it's
- 1:10:06wasted. So at the end of the day it's
- 1:10:10just not readily available right.
- 1:10:11So not really much you can do about it.
- 1:10:14Yeah, the the way that I. I'm looking at this, is that
- 1:10:19with our conversation about not having enough things to do while
- 1:10:23you're moving or ways to fill that gap, it might be that like,
- 1:10:28you're below, you're below X amount of charges.
- 1:10:32It's worth pressing before you go back into combat in a
- 1:10:38progression situation where you get pushed out and you're like,
- 1:10:40oh, I guess I can't, I don't have anything to press in this
- 1:10:44button. Here's the last thing that you
- 1:10:45do to just give yourself a little bit of health going back
- 1:10:48in. Yeah, I mean, maybe right, But.
- 1:10:51Even at that point. If you're expecting to the thing
- 1:10:53where it doesn't lose charges, you don't need to reapply it.
- 1:10:56If you put, If you're expecting to the thing where it heals you,
- 1:10:59you don't really want to use it as a movement global because you
- 1:11:01want to have, you want to stay at low charges to be able to
- 1:11:04heal yourself, right? So it doesn't, it just doesn't
- 1:11:08really make sense. It's, I mean, I, I understand
- 1:11:11what I, I do think that I understand what they're trying
- 1:11:14to go with, right? Like previously, if you just had
- 1:11:17to replay it and nothing happened, it just kind of felt
- 1:11:19like a waste of global because it is.
- 1:11:22And so them just giving like something to happen in the
- 1:11:25moment when you reapply that, it's just kind of cool.
- 1:11:30But yeah. I mean the only other.
- 1:11:32Thing that they also added, we have a talent that's called Wind
- 1:11:37Veil, which was previously seasoned wins I think is the
- 1:11:40name every time you interrupted. Something.
- 1:11:45Previously in the Warfin you took less damage from.
- 1:11:49That. Specific spell school, right?
- 1:11:51So if you kick the fire spell, you took less fire damage.
- 1:11:53If you kick the nature spell you took less nature damage.
- 1:11:56If you kick like a combination of things like in volcanic spell
- 1:11:59or something, you just took less damage from both.
- 1:12:02And now they just changed it that you just take less damage
- 1:12:06after interrupting any spell. The duration on that with 12
- 1:12:10seconds is pretty good to be fair.
- 1:12:13It's just generally A situational thing, right?
- 1:12:16Like if you just interrupted the enemy, it didn't deal damage,
- 1:12:20right? So now having a damage reduction
- 1:12:23against that specific enemy might not matter.
- 1:12:25Maybe it does, maybe it's just going to start casting something
- 1:12:28immediately after again, has happened at times, right?
- 1:12:32But generally, generally it can. Be very good in like mythic.
- 1:12:39Plus stuff like that. But in a rate, either it's
- 1:12:43incredibly good because you just sit there and interrupt
- 1:12:46something all the time, right? Like when she has a 12 second
- 1:12:49cooldown, Winfair has a 12 second duration.
- 1:12:52So you just have like permanent 15% damage reduction, which
- 1:12:55would be very, very good, obviously.
- 1:12:57Or the boss doesn't cost anything and you just can't use
- 1:13:01it, which is probably more likely to happen, not the other
- 1:13:05way, so. Overall though, heading into
- 1:13:12midnight, what's your prognosis for Shaman?
- 1:13:17For the people who are going to be running around in the pre
- 1:13:20patch being like, what in the world's going on when we get to
- 1:13:24midnight? Is there hope it is lightning in
- 1:13:29a bottle there? For elemental, I am doubtful.
- 1:13:34I like, I mean, I always try to be positive about changes, even
- 1:13:39if I'm personally maybe not. But I mean, the skeleton is
- 1:13:45there. I like it's still the same spec.
- 1:13:47It still has like the very characteristic, very special
- 1:13:51elemental buttons and it still feels like elemental.
- 1:13:55I'm just scared that because the expansion will last usually two
- 1:13:59years, right? That's how that usually goes.
- 1:14:01So I'm just kind of scared that it will just get boring very
- 1:14:04quickly if you don't really have anything special to do, if you
- 1:14:08if everything's just kind of basic.
- 1:14:11I do think that's a concern that most specs have a lot of other
- 1:14:15specs have as well, right? I don't really think things like
- 1:14:18the defensive issue, sure, for like high end players or people
- 1:14:22that want to play in a way that they have to be concerned about
- 1:14:29things like that, it will matter.
- 1:14:30Right, but like for. The general player base,
- 1:14:32probably not the biggest issue right?
- 1:14:34Like you're not going to die because you don't have 1/3
- 1:14:37defensive. But generally A spec should be
- 1:14:44fun to play. And if it's so easy and so
- 1:14:48simple, you might still just enjoy having fun, right?
- 1:14:54Like turning off your brain, pressing buttons, see all the
- 1:14:56pretty colours and do all of that, which I'm a big fan of.
- 1:14:59That's part of the reason why I play elemental, right?
- 1:15:02But I do very much think that sometimes you should be able to
- 1:15:06just sit down and just have a think about what you try to do
- 1:15:09and just try to be able to optimize things if you want to.
- 1:15:13So yeah, that's kind of my concern with.
- 1:15:15The with. How elementals looking in
- 1:15:17midnight so? The lights are on, but you're
- 1:15:22worried nobody's home. Pretty much.
- 1:15:26OK, well, I I'm hoping. For for the excitement to to be
- 1:15:35there. I know tier the first tier sets
- 1:15:38are never things that like add good hooks but hopefully with
- 1:15:43the future seasons we'll get that as they.
- 1:15:50A little bit of inside. Baseball is that as I follow
- 1:15:53these specs, I also see how they change and go through.
- 1:15:57And one of the things that we were talking about as we were
- 1:15:59setting up this show is how Elemental got that first brush
- 1:16:05and that first pass. And it doesn't feel like they've
- 1:16:08come back to really add in those hooks.
- 1:16:12And we had a similar situation with the beginning of the war
- 1:16:17within where it wasn't until the the .5 patch that they were
- 1:16:21like, OK, let's get this up and going hoping that that is not
- 1:16:25the situation. But like as we are so close to
- 1:16:30all of this going live, that may be the truth of the matter.
- 1:16:35We will see if people want to find you and everything that
- 1:16:39you. Do where can.
- 1:16:40We find that, well, generally, like on Earth, shine on the.
- 1:16:44Charmin discord right? If people have like things.
- 1:16:49That they want. To know usually.
- 1:16:50My discord DM so open maybe sometimes I'm a bit bad about
- 1:16:53responding to things but then just just write me again.
- 1:16:56I will probably notice at some point, but yeah, like Earth.
- 1:17:02Shine discord is usually pretty good.
- 1:17:03Way other than that, like the guy, it's small head is the one
- 1:17:07that I do and yeah. Maybe at some point.
- 1:17:13Streaming, but we will see you in that one.
- 1:17:17Well, Hawk, thank. You so much for coming on to the
- 1:17:19show and I'm hoping for the best for Elemental Shaman.
- 1:17:24It is of course, something near and dear to me, as I am stubbly
- 1:17:26Shaman all the time. But until next time folks, may
- 1:17:30all your hits be kits.
