- 0:05Speaker 1: Well, after several months on a rickety boat, we are
- 0:11Speaker 1: back back to civilization. It was nice. It's a nice trip,
- 0:15Speaker 1: a little bit of a cultural immersion. Well. Yeah, also,
- 0:19Speaker 1: after a recent trip to the doctor, I think I
- 0:21Speaker 1: might have copped a dose.
- 0:24Speaker 2: If you do a shoey.
- 0:25Speaker 1: Shoey is a bit of a different thing. I think
- 0:27Speaker 1: it was drinking from the furry cup. So how are you?
- 0:31Speaker 1: What's going on? Did you want to do the intro
- 0:34Speaker 1: to this? Do you want to? I'm sick of being professional?
- 0:37Speaker 1: When did you start doing that? A long time? Yeah,
- 0:42Speaker 1: let's let's chat. Let's shat car stuff. So that'd be fun.
- 0:46Speaker 1: We're going to find out later this episode what you've bought.
- 0:49Speaker 1: Oh yeah, I bought a car. Yeah. Car. One thing
- 0:54Speaker 1: I did notice when we were in Croatia, in your
- 0:59Speaker 1: tiny village, there was a new car that I got
- 1:02Speaker 1: to see which was really quite an interesting one. I'd
- 1:06Speaker 1: never heard of it before, but it actually exists, The
- 1:13Speaker 1: twenty twenty three goat car. That is good. The twenty
- 1:20Speaker 1: twenty three goat car.
- 1:22Speaker 3: For those of you watching at home, it's a goat
- 1:24Speaker 3: in a cage and a man sitting on the cage.
- 1:26Speaker 1: Yeah, and the cage has wheels and it's actually got
- 1:29Speaker 1: a steering wheel and everything. That was a real actual
- 1:32Speaker 1: thing they used in nineteen oh nine. There you go,
- 1:36Speaker 1: judging by your village twenty twenty three, which is good.
- 1:40Speaker 1: But yeah, the goat was fun. That's probably explains why
- 1:43Speaker 1: a coop to dose. Yes, yeah, but nothing's nothing really
- 1:49Speaker 1: to report, apart from some new wheels coming up, which
- 1:52Speaker 1: is going to be in our car review.
- 1:54Speaker 3: Yes, well we actually we also checked out downstairs fresh
- 1:58Speaker 3: off the back of our big SUV comparison, the land
- 2:01Speaker 3: Rover Defender. Yeah, what did you think of that? That
- 2:04Speaker 3: was the ex Dynamic HC.
- 2:07Speaker 1: Yeah, all the bells and whistles, end of top of
- 2:10Speaker 1: the line. I think they've always looked great. I said
- 2:13Speaker 1: to you when you came in that in a lot
- 2:15Speaker 1: of ways, that looks better than the top speck was
- 2:18Speaker 1: the vlaire La sorry VLA. Yeah, I just think I
- 2:22Speaker 1: think they look fucking great all black in tho yours
- 2:25Speaker 1: is white. In all black, it looks fantastic with the
- 2:27Speaker 1: sort of the gas can option at the side there.
- 2:31Speaker 1: I think they look amazing inside. Yeah cool, I don't know,
- 2:36Speaker 1: I just have this. I'll just have this thing there
- 2:38Speaker 1: are a lot of money for what they are, and
- 2:41Speaker 1: I know every sort of brand has their lemon. You
- 2:44Speaker 1: know that old saying of go into the desert with
- 2:46Speaker 1: a land Rover, come out with a land Cruiser, you
- 2:49Speaker 1: know what I mean. I've always kind of thought there
- 2:51Speaker 1: are a lot of money, and every brand will have
- 2:54Speaker 1: a lemon. And you know, you could buy a BMW
- 2:56Speaker 1: and it could have nothing like it could have heaps
- 2:58Speaker 1: and heaps of stuff wrong with it over and over again,
- 3:00Speaker 1: or you know, but I just it's all too common
- 3:03Speaker 1: in these cars to me.
- 3:04Speaker 3: Yes, Well, for me, I like the fact that you've
- 3:07Speaker 3: got five year warranties, so if there are problems, it's
- 3:10Speaker 3: sort of all taken care of. I don't know, I
- 3:13Speaker 3: would prefer to have a car that I like and
- 3:16Speaker 3: enjoy and love sitting in that potentially has issues than
- 3:21Speaker 3: one that is just sort of boring. Like this is
- 3:24Speaker 3: the thing that people say about the Highlus right, you know,
- 3:27Speaker 3: you can't kill them, blah blah blah.
- 3:29Speaker 2: And the Ranger has had issues since it's.
- 3:31Speaker 1: Launched, including yours or TOBC.
- 3:36Speaker 3: But yeah, to me, it's like, well, I don't want
- 3:39Speaker 3: to be bored to death for five years driving a highlugs.
- 3:41Speaker 3: I'd much prefer to drive something interesting that I like
- 3:44Speaker 3: that has problems rather.
- 3:45Speaker 2: Than something boring that I'll just never enjoy.
- 3:47Speaker 1: So yeah, I don't know.
- 3:49Speaker 3: I think it's a bit of a sort of catch
- 3:50Speaker 3: twenty two, but it was actually genuinely great off road.
- 3:53Speaker 3: This one has the off road pack, so it has
- 3:54Speaker 3: high adjustable suspension, It has a center and rear diff locks.
- 3:59Speaker 3: It is just an impressive vehicle off road, all trained tires.
- 4:02Speaker 1: So God, there's a bloody clap that he caught from
- 4:06Speaker 1: the showy.
- 4:07Speaker 2: It was the Danish that you forced down my throat
- 4:10Speaker 2: this morning.
- 4:10Speaker 1: Literally did not force that down in Australia. That was
- 4:12Speaker 1: my Danish.
- 4:13Speaker 2: I did not want to eat.
- 4:14Speaker 1: You literally stole my Danish.
- 4:16Speaker 2: You are a feeder.
- 4:16Speaker 1: I wasn't going to start this sh I wasn't going
- 4:18Speaker 1: to start the show because you stole my fucking day Diish.
- 4:21Speaker 3: I think it's for its purpose, it does well, but yeah,
- 4:24Speaker 3: you're right, I think with reliability there are question marks
- 4:27Speaker 3: over that stuff.
- 4:28Speaker 2: How it goes long term. I don't know. I'd like
- 4:30Speaker 2: to own one just to see what it's like.
- 4:32Speaker 3: Yeah, I think, which is annoy me if I had
- 4:33Speaker 3: to keep going back to the dealership to get stuff fixed.
- 4:36Speaker 1: I think the Defender is probably my favorite out of
- 4:39Speaker 1: all of them. I think it's the best looking one. Yeah,
- 4:42Speaker 1: but do you reckon he's pretty rugged looking. Well, I
- 4:44Speaker 1: think it's also a mixture of both. Yeah, it is
- 4:46Speaker 1: rugged looking, but it's also such a sleek and sexy
- 4:49Speaker 1: looking car. Like it's not that kind of it's not
- 4:52Speaker 1: rugged in the sense that it's like book moody, boisterous.
- 4:55Speaker 1: It's like it holds its own it's got a real.
- 4:58Speaker 2: Yeah, I agree, I agree.
- 5:00Speaker 1: Anyway, I did set you a challenge. I said, bring
- 5:03Speaker 1: in a car that bring in a car that is sexy,
- 5:07Speaker 1: and you said okay, and then you brought in your
- 5:10Speaker 1: goat Mobile and I said try again. And then you
- 5:13Speaker 1: brought in this, which was way cooler. So you know
- 5:15Speaker 1: what I was thinking, maybe at the end of this episode,
- 5:17Speaker 1: set a challenge and I'll come to the party. You've
- 5:20Speaker 1: done it before and I've come to the party, all right,
- 5:22Speaker 1: all right, see here you go. Anyway, Car News News, Oh,
- 5:26Speaker 1: the BNW concept touring coop. So this is sort of
- 5:31Speaker 1: a bit Z four looking.
- 5:33Speaker 3: But also very random and not expected, I thought, because
- 5:36Speaker 3: car companies have stopped kind of doing coupeys. It's just
- 5:40Speaker 3: been sorry, not coupe's concepts, and it's just been a
- 5:43Speaker 3: bit sort of you know, they just do a concept
- 5:45Speaker 3: but then it's actually a production car, whereas they don't
- 5:48Speaker 3: do this sort of stuff anymore. We have a coach
- 5:50Speaker 3: built a vehicle like this that that just looks out
- 5:54Speaker 3: of this world, and.
- 5:55Speaker 1: At the first glance it almost looks like fan art.
- 5:59Speaker 1: It does. That's what I was saying when I first
- 6:00Speaker 1: saw this.
- 6:00Speaker 3: I just somebody's sort of knocked something together three dai.
- 6:03Speaker 3: But to think they've actually created this in person and
- 6:07Speaker 3: like actually presented it to the public, I think is
- 6:10Speaker 3: pretty cool. They don't typically do that unless there is
- 6:13Speaker 3: some intention to potentially do something like this in the future,
- 6:18Speaker 3: and they're obviously not confirming anything, but you know, I
- 6:21Speaker 3: just think it'd be kind of cool. It's still a
- 6:24Speaker 3: two seater. All this does is just gives you a
- 6:26Speaker 3: little bit more load carrying capacity. But I just think
- 6:30Speaker 3: it's a really sort of fascinating look into what they.
- 6:34Speaker 1: Sort of might do. So BMW said.
- 6:36Speaker 3: The concept during Coupe shares its name and draws its
- 6:39Speaker 3: inspiration from the three two eight touring coupe from the
- 6:42Speaker 3: late nineteen thirties, which won the Millairmgli Meat Miglia Melair.
- 6:48Speaker 1: This is what happens when Paul does a shoeing gets
- 6:50Speaker 1: a tickley throat.
- 6:51Speaker 3: Yeah, this is a bit too far east from my
- 6:53Speaker 3: country to pronounce me race in nineteen forty. The concept
- 6:58Speaker 3: is also said to pay homage to the first BMW
- 7:01Speaker 3: to wear the touring badge, the two Shooting Break from
- 7:04Speaker 3: the nineteen seventies.
- 7:07Speaker 1: Yeah, what do you reckon? There's parts that I love
- 7:14Speaker 1: and there's parts that I'm a bit like, Ooh, I
- 7:17Speaker 1: think all in all, I think it's very cool. The
- 7:21Speaker 1: front looks a bit odd. The front looks weird. Yeah,
- 7:25Speaker 1: the front looks a bit sort of almost old. That's
- 7:28Speaker 1: what made me think it was possibly fan ar't I do?
- 7:30Speaker 1: Like the really aggressive The fact that they put such
- 7:33Speaker 1: big aggressive gills on the side on such a small car,
- 7:35Speaker 1: I think is actually cool. But then you go around
- 7:37Speaker 1: the back and you're like, whoa, what is this car?
- 7:39Speaker 1: It's like a completely that's a work of art. Yeah,
- 7:42Speaker 1: Like that looks like it's the back of one of
- 7:46Speaker 1: their M three wagons. Yeah, yeah, it's interesting.
- 7:48Speaker 3: They didn't mention the Z three M coupe anywhere. That
- 7:51Speaker 3: was a thing that looked like a shoe that they produced.
- 7:55Speaker 3: And the other thing as well that I find you
- 7:57Speaker 3: interesting the fact that this was done basically on a
- 8:00Speaker 3: platform that's shared with the with the Supra, so the
- 8:05Speaker 3: Z four is obviously a super beneath the skin and
- 8:07Speaker 3: vice versa. I just wonder whether that means Toyota might
- 8:11Speaker 3: get a bite at something like this as well.
- 8:13Speaker 1: Hope, what do you think Toyota would do something like this? Well,
- 8:17Speaker 1: I don't know.
- 8:17Speaker 3: If BMW has done it with that platform and they
- 8:19Speaker 3: share that platform, perhaps that's a thing that's going to happen.
- 8:23Speaker 2: But you never know.
- 8:26Speaker 1: It does look cool, doesn't it. Yeah. I like the
- 8:28Speaker 1: fact that I like them. I like how they've kind
- 8:30Speaker 1: of rounded the back on the inside yep, so you
- 8:33Speaker 1: can really load this thing up. But it does look
- 8:35Speaker 1: like it's even the back has been kind of like
- 8:38Speaker 1: the load space. You look at it and go, that's
- 8:39Speaker 1: actually a work of art. Like they've really concentrated on
- 8:42Speaker 1: how that looks, whereas a lot of generally it's like
- 8:45Speaker 1: not many people pay that much attention to how the
- 8:47Speaker 1: boot looks. Do you know what I mean, though generally
- 8:49Speaker 1: they'll put boot like fucking nets in or.
- 8:51Speaker 3: Well it uses Italian leather for that rear section, oh handcrafted.
- 8:56Speaker 1: I like Italian leather in my rear section. Lit. So yeah,
- 9:01Speaker 1: let us say what you reckon. I'll put that up
- 9:04Speaker 1: on socials as well as the goat car up on
- 9:06Speaker 1: socials and you can let us know what you think.
- 9:08Speaker 1: I'll switch one you'd buy, yeah, goat car or the coupe. Oh.
- 9:11Speaker 1: You know what I saw during the week was one
- 9:14Speaker 1: of the old Volvo station wagons. I can't remember the
- 9:18Speaker 1: actual number of it, but you know the ones I'm
- 9:22Speaker 1: talking about, right, like the old school wagons. I think
- 9:24Speaker 1: they came generally in a blue or whatever whatever. There's
- 9:27Speaker 1: a guy over in the UK, like this dude is
- 9:29Speaker 1: fucking loaded, right, but he's he's like the old aristocrat
- 9:32Speaker 1: looking guy. He's got one of these cars and he's
- 9:35Speaker 1: put it. He's colored in like a almost like that
- 9:38Speaker 1: racing green British green, Jaguar green, and he's redone the
- 9:42Speaker 1: seats in it tan. Fuck. It looks so good. I
- 9:47Speaker 1: must find that. I'll send it to you. But I
- 9:48Speaker 1: just saw an old Volvo ad volver. I just saw
- 9:52Speaker 1: an old Volver. Is that Donna? Is that leather Draymoor? Well,
- 9:58Speaker 1: I know Paul likes a lo lip Jesus. So moving
- 10:04Speaker 1: on to the next one, which I just caught my eye.
- 10:07Speaker 3: An ex Apple engineer has been charged for stealing self
- 10:11Speaker 3: driving secrets for China. China, Yeah, so what's happened here
- 10:17Speaker 3: is the US Justice Department of Justice has filed charges
- 10:21Speaker 3: against a former Apple software engineer for allegedly downloading and
- 10:25Speaker 3: passing on large quantities of the American companies technology in
- 10:29Speaker 3: relation to self driving cars to a Chinese company.
- 10:32Speaker 2: And Apple was or is still working on a long.
- 10:34Speaker 3: Overdue self driving car which was dubbed Project Titan. So
- 10:40Speaker 3: the former Apple engineer has been identified by the charges
- 10:44Speaker 3: as thirty five year old Wabo Wang, and was Agape
- 10:51Speaker 3: was a former Mister Wang was a former resident of
- 10:54Speaker 3: Mountain View, California, who began working for Apple in twenty sixteen.
- 10:59Speaker 1: So I'm just having a look here at this story.
- 11:01Speaker 3: So only a few months later, mister Wang accepted a
- 11:06Speaker 3: job with a Chinese company that was developing self driving
- 11:09Speaker 3: car software, but according to the indictment, he didn't inform
- 11:12Speaker 3: Apple of his new role. For more than four months,
- 11:16Speaker 3: and then he proceeded to access large amounts of data
- 11:20Speaker 3: on Apple self driving car project before his access was
- 11:23Speaker 3: cut off on his last day with the company. So
- 11:25Speaker 3: I obviously would have had a notice period of three
- 11:27Speaker 3: or four months or something.
- 11:29Speaker 2: That is so dodgy. That is so dodgy.
- 11:33Speaker 1: Apple then reported the theft of the FBI.
- 11:37Speaker 3: And when the discovery was made, the US federal agents
- 11:40Speaker 3: raided his home in June twenty eighteen, finding a large
- 11:44Speaker 3: quantity of data.
- 11:45Speaker 2: Stolen from Apple. Wow.
- 11:47Speaker 3: Crazy, and then it goes on to saved. I thought
- 11:49Speaker 3: it was fascinating. It was alleged that shortly after the raid,
- 11:53Speaker 3: mister Wang departed on a flight to China.
- 11:55Speaker 1: Went straight to the motherland.
- 11:58Speaker 3: Yeah, so not typically on China, But this is what
- 12:03Speaker 3: governments and companies around the world are concerned about when
- 12:07Speaker 3: it comes to this sort of corporate espionage. You get
- 12:10Speaker 3: these people employed in these car companies and companies in
- 12:13Speaker 3: general stealing information that they then feed back to countries
- 12:20Speaker 3: that want to fast track development of these technologies. And
- 12:23Speaker 3: you can imagine the amount of money that Apple is
- 12:25Speaker 3: tipped into this to then have some bloke just download
- 12:29Speaker 3: it all and away they go is just crazy, isn't it.
- 12:32Speaker 1: It's interesting, isn't it. It's like data bridges of like
- 12:35Speaker 1: this have been going on for a fair while lately.
- 12:38Speaker 1: How do they stop it?
- 12:39Speaker 3: You can't really, I mean, you can have people you know,
- 12:44Speaker 3: and again, this is what governments around the world are
- 12:46Speaker 3: frightened of. When you become, you know, someone who is
- 12:51Speaker 3: blackmailed by another country or something like that, you are
- 12:54Speaker 3: then forced into stealing this information. If you're smart about it,
- 12:58Speaker 3: they would never know because if your job there is
- 13:00Speaker 3: driverless car technology, you can hoard data over a long
- 13:03Speaker 3: period of time secretly and have it vanished without anyone
- 13:07Speaker 3: ever knowing.
- 13:08Speaker 1: This guy you know a little bit too much about this.
- 13:11Speaker 1: This could explain why why we've seen the court system
- 13:14Speaker 1: of late Yes.
- 13:16Speaker 3: So yeah, I just think it's really fascinating and I
- 13:19Speaker 3: reckon this. This isn't the first time, won't be the
- 13:21Speaker 3: last time. Data breaches will keep happening, and it's it
- 13:23Speaker 3: really is up to companies to better manage the data
- 13:26Speaker 3: and make sure that it doesn't go bye byes.
- 13:28Speaker 1: Would surprise me if this happens quite a bit. Maybe
- 13:31Speaker 1: it's just catching a lot of press because it's going
- 13:34Speaker 1: back to China. There's a lot of bad press about China.
- 13:37Speaker 1: You won't hear me saying a bad thing about China. No,
- 13:40Speaker 1: I will welcome our overlords with open arms byd and
- 13:45Speaker 1: I will quite happily drive whatever they're are putting on
- 13:49Speaker 1: the table and play the guitar doors and whatever they want.
- 13:54Speaker 1: By the way, our next story. I instantly thought to
- 14:02Speaker 1: you when I saw this sere we go, Was it
- 14:05Speaker 1: a man with a giant penis? Close? Was that documentary
- 14:10Speaker 1: that you and your wife man with the biggest penis
- 14:13Speaker 1: with the world's biggest penis? I thought, can you guys
- 14:15Speaker 1: stop watching my home videos? Yeah?
- 14:19Speaker 3: So this one is driver of rented lambeau flees scene
- 14:23Speaker 3: after running out of talent and crashing into a dealership.
- 14:26Speaker 1: So close.
- 14:27Speaker 3: But so this happened in Sydney, and you know Sydney
- 14:31Speaker 3: better than I do. But apparently a bloke was driving
- 14:35Speaker 3: a rented Lambo Huracan and somehow lost control of it.
- 14:38Speaker 3: And the footage has come out since then of losing
- 14:41Speaker 3: control of it.
- 14:41Speaker 1: And this just happens to be right near my house.
- 14:45Speaker 3: And venient thing is that this all keeps stacking up
- 14:48Speaker 3: and pointing towards you. Mmm, just because I remember you
- 14:53Speaker 3: promoting some of this stuff.
- 14:55Speaker 1: Oh look, I might have made a TV appearance about
- 14:58Speaker 1: something like this recently. I wasn't going to I wasn't
- 15:01Speaker 1: gonna bring it up. Thanks for bringing up. It seems
- 15:04Speaker 1: like you endorse all this sort of stuff, which is good. Yep.
- 15:07Speaker 1: So look if the next episode of The Driver shows
- 15:12Speaker 1: a little bit late, I'm just doing five to twenty
- 15:13Speaker 1: in Pentridge.
- 15:16Speaker 2: That's not a strip club.
- 15:17Speaker 1: That's not a strip club. But well someone's getting fucked. Yeah,
- 15:22Speaker 1: very good.
- 15:23Speaker 3: But yeah, I thought, just as an aside to the
- 15:26Speaker 3: moron that was driving this car, I thought it was
- 15:29Speaker 3: really cool to see the images from the firefighters who
- 15:31Speaker 3: published all of this, and their attents at rescuing the
- 15:35Speaker 3: vehicle and making everything safe. It was really cool to
- 15:38Speaker 3: see them hard at work here getting it all set up.
- 15:42Speaker 3: They had these frames and ratchet straps just to make
- 15:47Speaker 3: the scenes safe before they could remove all the cars
- 15:49Speaker 3: because it was quite an awkward position. The Lambeau crashed
- 15:52Speaker 3: into it, sort of flipped the falcon up onto its side,
- 15:55Speaker 3: and then the hurricane was mounting it effectively.
- 15:58Speaker 1: So have you got have you got this your little website? Yeah,
- 16:01Speaker 1: so it's a car Experts dot com. Are you okay, well,
- 16:03Speaker 1: let me just cli yes wow.
- 16:07Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 16:07Speaker 3: So it's it's quite a remarkable achievement that I've been
- 16:10Speaker 3: able to make it all safe. So it shows you
- 16:12Speaker 3: that all the training they actually go into, sometimes in
- 16:15Speaker 3: the most random ways, actually pays off for them, which
- 16:17Speaker 3: is good to see.
- 16:18Speaker 1: Yeah, as opposed to the training that that Lambeau driver
- 16:21Speaker 1: had zero of very little by the looks of it.
- 16:25Speaker 1: By the way, where he's where he's driving. I actually
- 16:27Speaker 1: know I know that car yard, that actual car yard
- 16:31Speaker 1: I bought when I first moved to Sydney. I needed
- 16:35Speaker 1: like a car just to last me sort of six months,
- 16:37Speaker 1: and I bought a car from that car yard. And
- 16:40Speaker 1: it was a it was a bloody oh my god,
- 16:46Speaker 1: it was a friggin' Kya. Remember the coops with the
- 16:52Speaker 1: k Yeah, yeah, and this black thing and oh my god, yeah,
- 16:58Speaker 1: smell like cigarettes. It's good car though, you go far back. Yeah,
- 17:01Speaker 1: So it's interesting I crashed a Lambeau into it also.
- 17:05Speaker 3: From Yeah, but look, it's well, I don't know if
- 17:08Speaker 3: they've found the driver, and I don't know if anyone
- 17:10Speaker 3: has any more information on this. If you do get
- 17:12Speaker 3: in touch, contact at the Drivers Show dot Com today.
- 17:14Speaker 3: You'll be curious to know whether they found the driver,
- 17:16Speaker 3: because if it was rented, surely you would have their details.
- 17:19Speaker 1: But mind you I had.
- 17:20Speaker 3: I saw this story on Reddit about a guy who
- 17:23Speaker 3: when Turo launched in Australia, he rented out his M
- 17:26Speaker 3: two on Turo. Oh, guy came valid license, everything was okay,
- 17:32Speaker 3: came time to return the car. Car never came back
- 17:37Speaker 3: at all. Yeah, it was just stolen. And obviously Toro
- 17:40Speaker 3: has insurance and all that sort of stuff. But it
- 17:42Speaker 3: just shows you that even if someone turns up with
- 17:44Speaker 3: the driver's license to rent a vehicle like this, if
- 17:46Speaker 3: they're driving like that, they crash it and they run away.
- 17:49Speaker 1: I mean, if you're running away, you clearly probably know.
- 17:52Speaker 3: That you're not going to get caught otherwise, or just
- 17:53Speaker 3: come straight to your house unless they were intoxicated or something.
- 17:56Speaker 3: I don't know, but yeah, I'll be curious to see
- 17:58Speaker 3: how this one actually ended up.
- 18:01Speaker 1: Interesting mob, good people, good people. Can you remember on
- 18:06Speaker 1: a preview this is let's go. I just want to
- 18:08Speaker 1: go off cars for two seconds because I think it
- 18:10Speaker 1: would be of interest. We've brought this up before. Can
- 18:13Speaker 1: you remember a while ago, we were talking about we
- 18:16Speaker 1: both like watches, right, and we were talking about I've
- 18:21Speaker 1: got an Amiga Speedmaster the Moonwatch, right, and then Swatch
- 18:26Speaker 1: brought out like an Amiga collaboration, which I thought was
- 18:30Speaker 1: just crazy. I mean I think it was they watches
- 18:33Speaker 1: at retail for like three hundred and eighty bucks. It's
- 18:35Speaker 1: basically a piece of plastic and I was like, why
- 18:37Speaker 1: the fuck would anyone buy a piece of plastic watch
- 18:42Speaker 1: because what they were doing was reselling them for like
- 18:44Speaker 1: eight hundred, nine hundred bucks. Well, I'm that fucking idiot
- 18:47Speaker 1: who bought that Moonwatch, and I'm wearing it right now.
- 18:52Speaker 2: There you go. I didn't notice that earlier.
- 18:53Speaker 1: Yeah, so I basically bought it just because I thought
- 18:55Speaker 1: it was a fun watch. And to be honest, I
- 18:58Speaker 1: got a pretty good price on it. So it just
- 19:01Speaker 1: eight thousand dollars yeah right, I actually paid less for
- 19:05Speaker 1: my actual Amiga Speedmaster and your new car. Yeah yeah,
- 19:09Speaker 1: I just thought it was like a fun daily But
- 19:11Speaker 1: I don't know, it's a bit. I don't know, what
- 19:13Speaker 1: do you what do you make of these sort of
- 19:14Speaker 1: collapse I don't know.
- 19:16Speaker 3: I just think that given the demand, I mean, you
- 19:18Speaker 3: saw the lines they had and the resale obviously it's popular,
- 19:21Speaker 3: so I mean, I think we'll see more of that.
- 19:24Speaker 3: That's probably going to pave the way for them, because
- 19:27Speaker 3: I think those collaborations tend to cost a lot of
- 19:29Speaker 3: money to set up, but if you can get an
- 19:32Speaker 3: investment return, and they're obviously high margin as well. Well.
- 19:36Speaker 1: The guy that sold this to me is like a
- 19:37Speaker 1: professional reseller, so he's got like a a shop if
- 19:42Speaker 1: you like, but he'll fly all around the world. Not
- 19:45Speaker 1: all around the world, but he'll fly generally. He will
- 19:48Speaker 1: he'll fly rationally, but he'll fly around Sydney, Melbourne wherever
- 19:52Speaker 1: these are launching and whatnot, and he'll sort of resell
- 19:57Speaker 1: them because he's basically puts price on. Say you buy
- 20:02Speaker 1: the watch is retailing at four hundred bucks, and he
- 20:05Speaker 1: sells it for eight hundred. He'll justifire going, well, you
- 20:08Speaker 1: can't really get them. Plus I had to wait in
- 20:10Speaker 1: the queue for half a fucking day, so you kind
- 20:13Speaker 1: of save. But yeah, no, it's interesting, like they even
- 20:18Speaker 1: the version of this they did like a it's called
- 20:21Speaker 1: like moon Dust or some crap. It's basically just a
- 20:24Speaker 1: gold hand on it and they're selling for like twelve,
- 20:27Speaker 1: fifteen hundred bucks. It's like, anyway, this is my version
- 20:32Speaker 1: of an NFT. How are your en? He's going all right?
- 20:35Speaker 3: Next news story? Oh god, that was the last news story.
- 20:41Speaker 3: So let's talk about our car review. Oh yeah, let's
- 20:44Speaker 3: talk about that.
- 20:45Speaker 4: The twenty twenty three Subaru Outback Sport XT Prices start
- 20:49Speaker 4: at forty six thousand, six hundred ninety dollars for the
- 20:52Speaker 4: Entry all wheel drive to fifty five nine hundred ninety
- 20:56Speaker 4: dollars for the XT Toury.
- 20:57Speaker 1: Gordy, this is the car you bought, isn't it? Yes?
- 21:01Speaker 1: Go on Q for some underwhelming responses. The twenty twenty
- 21:08Speaker 1: three Subaru Outback or Will Drive Sport X team. Never
- 21:12Speaker 1: thought I'd own one, but here we are. Yeah, girls,
- 21:16Speaker 1: go girl, look out, elite dad bod coming through.
- 21:21Speaker 3: I actually really liked the Outback. I recommended my in
- 21:25Speaker 3: laws by one.
- 21:25Speaker 2: They bought one. They do sort of caravanning and stuff
- 21:28Speaker 2: with it.
- 21:30Speaker 3: But yeah, I just think it's a It's a good
- 21:32Speaker 3: compromise if you don't want an suv, which some people don't,
- 21:36Speaker 3: but you still want all the space and a higher
- 21:38Speaker 3: ride height, so it ticks all those boxes. And finally,
- 21:41Speaker 3: it's turbo charge, which means it's not slow like the
- 21:44Speaker 3: old one was.
- 21:44Speaker 1: Yeah, and there was a few reasons why I bought
- 21:46Speaker 1: it too. Was one because I did I wanted an SUV,
- 21:50Speaker 1: but there's none I really liked. I think for the
- 21:54Speaker 1: price and for the stats of this fifty eight thousand
- 21:57Speaker 1: roughly drive away one hundred and eighty three kilos three
- 22:00Speaker 1: hundred and fifty meters of talk. Those numbers make me cry.
- 22:02Speaker 1: But whatever five year warranty on this look. I think
- 22:06Speaker 1: for me personally, I wanted a car that I can
- 22:09Speaker 1: chuck the kid in, chuck the wife in the boot.
- 22:13Speaker 1: But yeah, chuck the family in the car and go
- 22:15Speaker 1: to places like the snow or whatever, and do road
- 22:18Speaker 1: trips and stuff like that and it come out in
- 22:21Speaker 1: a reasonable nick. I think they're a great car. I mean,
- 22:23Speaker 1: they're built really well. They just feel quality from the
- 22:26Speaker 1: moment they sort of jump in. And I didn't want
- 22:28Speaker 1: the top spectauring on purpose. I actually think this looks
- 22:32Speaker 1: better with the black rims and black font.
- 22:34Speaker 2: Highlight and highlights.
- 22:36Speaker 1: Makes me feel sporty, even though when I get out
- 22:39Speaker 1: of the car, I'm clearly a man that sits in
- 22:42Speaker 1: a studio with another bloke and eats danishes. Yeah, look,
- 22:46Speaker 1: I think And look also the sport trim on this.
- 22:49Speaker 1: On the inside, it's kind of like a it's weird.
- 22:52Speaker 1: It's like a leather but it's not and I like that.
- 22:54Speaker 1: I wanted it to be something I can durable wipe
- 22:58Speaker 1: down when when you let the wife out of the
- 23:01Speaker 1: boots I was going to say, when I have a
- 23:04Speaker 1: midnight wake. But all right, But they're kind of renowned
- 23:08Speaker 1: as being a bit of a daggy car, but for me,
- 23:11Speaker 1: I think they're great. They look really good too, and
- 23:15Speaker 1: I don't know, they do have a bit of go anywhere,
- 23:17Speaker 1: like if I wanted to drive it to the side
- 23:20Speaker 1: of the country. In this it's quite a capable car.
- 23:22Speaker 1: It's quiet too. That was the one thing that surprised me.
- 23:25Speaker 1: There's a fuck all road noise in this. I will
- 23:28Speaker 1: say the things I do love about it too. The
- 23:30Speaker 1: infotainment's really good on it, and I think it's like
- 23:32Speaker 1: the screen's nice and big, and I am going to
- 23:35Speaker 1: miss the physical climate control. I do sort of you know,
- 23:39Speaker 1: you've kind of got to go into the screen a
- 23:41Speaker 1: bit for that, which is a bit annoying.
- 23:42Speaker 2: But it's very roomy.
- 23:44Speaker 3: I was surprised by how much room there is in
- 23:46Speaker 3: the second row and in the boot, Like it is
- 23:48Speaker 3: enormous for what it is.
- 23:50Speaker 1: And that's the one thing I've noticed since having a
- 23:52Speaker 1: kid too, is kids with them carry a lot of baggage,
- 23:57Speaker 1: like more than my wife, and they just carry a
- 24:02Speaker 1: lot of stuff. And so yeah, we just wanted a
- 24:04Speaker 1: big boot for that. There is a reason there's a
- 24:06Speaker 1: I think price point wise too, this is great because
- 24:09Speaker 1: what roughly fifty eight thousand drive away, and I think
- 24:11Speaker 1: for that price, what you're getting is I don't think
- 24:13Speaker 1: it's a bargain, but I don't think it's it's overprized
- 24:17Speaker 1: at all. I think the fuel economy was a bit Yeah,
- 24:21Speaker 1: what are you averaging? It's it's sort of higher than
- 24:23Speaker 1: the naturally aspirated one. Well, I think they was saying
- 24:26Speaker 1: in the stats, I think super is claiming around about
- 24:29Speaker 1: I think it's yeah, well, I think they're claiming less.
- 24:33Speaker 1: I think they're claiming like eight nine. I was doing
- 24:36Speaker 1: more like twelve.
- 24:37Speaker 3: About twelve is what you'd expect to get out of it,
- 24:41Speaker 3: because yeah, well the second you turbo charge it, yeah,
- 24:44Speaker 3: here we go. So nine with the turbo but yeah,
- 24:47Speaker 3: I think it's going to be more than that.
- 24:49Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, no, it really is. But look, I think
- 24:51Speaker 1: it's a solid car. It looks good. The paint looks
- 24:54Speaker 1: I've got the I don't know what the official color
- 24:56Speaker 1: for the dirty looking green is, but that's the one
- 24:58Speaker 1: I've gone for.
- 25:00Speaker 2: So do you get yours from a dealer? What was
- 25:02Speaker 2: the wait time?
- 25:03Speaker 1: Like? Yeah, shout out to suber Ud Chalora, big shout
- 25:08Speaker 1: out to those guys, because the wait isn't too long,
- 25:10Speaker 1: Like I'm getting this as we record, I'm getting it
- 25:13Speaker 1: in July.
- 25:14Speaker 2: Yep. Okay, it's not too bad.
- 25:15Speaker 1: It's pretty good.
- 25:16Speaker 2: Yeap, Yeah, that is good.
- 25:17Speaker 1: I think the wait time is excellent. God, considering my
- 25:21Speaker 1: brother has been waiting for his Toyota Brado, Yep, he
- 25:24Speaker 1: has waited. At the moment was speaking yesterday, he's waited
- 25:28Speaker 1: eighteen months for that. Oh my god, that's insane, isn't it.
- 25:32Speaker 1: Like that is ridiculous. My dad bought a land Cruiser
- 25:35Speaker 1: and was waiting like that sort of time for it,
- 25:38Speaker 1: And I remember just seeing them. He was one of
- 25:42Speaker 1: the first I reckon around to order them. And I
- 25:44Speaker 1: remember seeing heaps of them on the road in Sydney.
- 25:47Speaker 1: I'm like, Dad, where's your car? I'm seeing heaps of them.
- 25:49Speaker 1: What's going on? He goes, Oh, I've seen one or two,
- 25:52Speaker 1: Like nah, send them everywhere? Yeah, yeah, So I don't know.
- 25:55Speaker 1: I thought. I thought the wait time is really good,
- 25:57Speaker 1: and that's kind of what got me over the line
- 25:59Speaker 1: as well. I think times in general are starting to improve.
- 26:02Speaker 3: Obviously you've got your edge cases like Toyota, which can't
- 26:05Speaker 3: seem to get manufacturing right, but everyone else is getting
- 26:08Speaker 3: much better now with weight times, especially the Chinese brains.
- 26:11Speaker 3: You've got stacks of those cars available now without having
- 26:13Speaker 3: to wait at all. So the taype I was two years,
- 26:16Speaker 3: which I was like, well, they're now improving that because
- 26:18Speaker 3: they've got an extra stock allocation.
- 26:19Speaker 1: So I think they've shaved like a year off the
- 26:21Speaker 1: wait times. That's good, yeah, which pretty good. Twelve months
- 26:24Speaker 1: to wait for one of those, not bad, not bad,
- 26:26Speaker 1: I'll do that good size. Yeah, So what do you
- 26:30Speaker 1: think of this car?
- 26:31Speaker 3: Look?
- 26:32Speaker 2: I really like it.
- 26:32Speaker 3: I think that it is just the way to go
- 26:35Speaker 3: if you don't want an suv, and I think that
- 26:38Speaker 3: it is a good all rounder.
- 26:40Speaker 2: So I ca't to see what you think about the
- 26:42Speaker 2: infotainment system.
- 26:43Speaker 3: Longer term, because I find it fine, but it was
- 26:47Speaker 3: just a little bit fiddly at times. So I'll be
- 26:49Speaker 3: curious to see how that goes for you.
- 26:50Speaker 1: Yeah, the climate control really is the big thing. I
- 26:54Speaker 1: mean once, once you've got car playing this, it's fine,
- 26:58Speaker 1: you know what I mean. I think, I just I
- 27:00Speaker 1: think it works good. The wireless Apple car play too.
- 27:03Speaker 1: For some people, it's neither here or there. For me,
- 27:05Speaker 1: I love it. I think it's where we should be.
- 27:08Speaker 1: I can't believe we're not. It's such an easy thing
- 27:10Speaker 1: to just jump in, not think about happy, very happy,
- 27:15Speaker 1: very good question. What would your Camakazi car be? So
- 27:21Speaker 1: if you could have one car, that is probably the
- 27:24Speaker 1: worst financial decision ever, but you didn't care, what would
- 27:27Speaker 1: you do? What would you go? Ooh that is a
- 27:32Speaker 1: hard one. Yeah, that is a really hard one. Unlimited money.
- 27:36Speaker 1: I think that would defeat the purpose of a Kamakazi car.
- 27:40Speaker 1: I don't know.
- 27:40Speaker 3: Just looking at the resale of them, I think the
- 27:43Speaker 3: Defender would be fun because the resale isn't great.
- 27:47Speaker 1: Really, I'd go something a little bit more Porsche.
- 27:50Speaker 2: That Caman GT four was great, but why is that.
- 27:53Speaker 1: A Kamakazi car because basically I can't afford it.
- 27:56Speaker 3: Oh okay, So the title of the segment is tell
- 27:59Speaker 3: me about a car you can't to forward.
- 28:00Speaker 1: Tell me a car that you know I shouldn't buy,
- 28:03Speaker 1: but I really want to buy that I probably could.
- 28:05Speaker 2: I think it needs to be a classic as well.
- 28:08Speaker 3: Yeah, So for me, if we're not doing just new cars,
- 28:13Speaker 3: mine would be something like a Lambghina Kuntage because you
- 28:16Speaker 3: know that it would be so much fun to drive
- 28:18Speaker 3: and just so cool, but probably very expensive to run
- 28:22Speaker 3: and maintain and highly unreliable.
- 28:24Speaker 2: Yes, I think that'd beat me.
- 28:26Speaker 1: Actually, I've always wanted a Toronto XU one. I mean
- 28:31Speaker 1: the resale there's so ridiculously overpriced.
- 28:35Speaker 2: Yep, especially for a good one.
- 28:37Speaker 1: Yeah, for a good one. And there's so many like
- 28:39Speaker 1: tribute or replicas out there. But I'd just have a
- 28:43Speaker 1: genuine x U one GTR And it's like they're even
- 28:47Speaker 1: in the door cards They've got like the it's almost
- 28:50Speaker 1: like a checkerboard. Look, it's such a cool car as
- 28:53Speaker 1: time goes on, and something like that would be a
- 28:56Speaker 1: bit of a massive pain in the ass to maintain
- 28:58Speaker 1: and actually, to be honest, saying this out loud. I
- 29:01Speaker 1: don't think it would actually drive that great. Probably wouldn't. No, No,
- 29:05Speaker 1: I think a lot of those older cars wouldn't. If
- 29:08Speaker 1: I'm yeah, if I'm being completely honest, it would. It
- 29:10Speaker 1: would just be upsetting to drive. Yes, you know when
- 29:13Speaker 1: you've got like a hero car and you get into
- 29:15Speaker 1: it and you're like, yeah, this does drive like nineteen
- 29:17Speaker 1: seventy two. Yeah, but I would I would probably buy that.
- 29:23Speaker 2: Yeah, okay, fair enough.
- 29:24Speaker 3: Well, anyone listening contact at the Driversshow dot com today
- 29:28Speaker 3: you let us know what your camera Carzi car would
- 29:31Speaker 3: be over the socials as well.
- 29:34Speaker 2: Do you have any socials to read out?
- 29:36Speaker 1: Let's have a little There's a guy who writes to
- 29:38Speaker 1: is on our Instagram, dms, every single app.
- 29:43Speaker 2: I think it's Is it Trevor?
- 29:45Speaker 1: No? Oh god, don't get me started. What's Trevor? Do
- 29:49Speaker 1: you know you and Trevor have this fascinating thing in
- 29:53Speaker 1: common when when you call me and you're at the studios,
- 29:58Speaker 1: you both say I'm down stairs. I remember picking up
- 30:04Speaker 1: the phone to fucking Travelong and I'm just like hey mate,
- 30:08Speaker 1: and he just goes I'm downstairs, and I go down
- 30:11Speaker 1: there and there's this guy disheveled guy with like speed
- 30:14Speaker 1: dealer Sonny's on and he's got his T shirt tucked
- 30:17Speaker 1: in and he's got these real like wrap around blind
- 30:21Speaker 1: men's style fucking sunnys. He just like he just makes
- 30:26Speaker 1: me laugh. Yeah. No, there's a guy called George Moore.
- 30:28Speaker 1: Shout out to Georgie. He always goes, Yeah, another episode,
- 30:31Speaker 1: and you didn't answer my question that I've been asking
- 30:34Speaker 1: every single episode. And the funny thing is, I just
- 30:37Speaker 1: we're not going to answer it today either.
- 30:39Speaker 2: What is the question?
- 30:39Speaker 1: I don't even know. I've got to go that far
- 30:42Speaker 1: back in the every fucking look at this. What was
- 30:44Speaker 1: the first thing people? I think it was there was something.
- 30:49Speaker 1: I think he was the one. He was probably the
- 30:51Speaker 1: original one who asked about merch. It's probably Daniel. We
- 30:55Speaker 1: get a lot of stuff sent to us, which thank
- 30:57Speaker 1: you for that. By the way. Actually here's a little
- 30:59Speaker 1: bit of a who from Intrigued Coop. Shout out to
- 31:04Speaker 1: Intrigued Coop off road Ford Mustang raptor rumored.
- 31:08Speaker 2: Oh and it's no joke.
- 31:10Speaker 3: Ford Mustang Raptorm of the Electric ond or the normal
- 31:15Speaker 3: one report in the US.
- 31:16Speaker 1: Oh I don't want to read, Oh I don't want
- 31:18Speaker 1: to read this because of the article of who it's by.
- 31:22Speaker 2: Oh oh, then it's not true. I don't want to
- 31:25Speaker 2: get sued again.
- 31:26Speaker 1: Yeah, I don't want to get sued again. In fact,
- 31:29Speaker 1: I don't want to read that article. I'll read the headline.
- 31:31Speaker 1: That's enough. I haven't heard anything about it. Have you
- 31:33Speaker 1: heard anything about it? Yes, And you have a car website,
- 31:35Speaker 1: a legitimate, good one, so I'm not going to read
- 31:38Speaker 1: the competition. So anyway, mate, thanks for your email, but
- 31:42Speaker 1: that's bullshit. There's a famous classic car garage in Sydney.
- 31:50Speaker 1: I got this sent a lot and we've talked about
- 31:54Speaker 1: them before because they had a BYD at oh three,
- 31:57Speaker 1: I don't remember that yet, and they had that for
- 31:59Speaker 1: sale for like seventy thousand dollars.
- 32:02Speaker 2: Seventy million dollars something.
- 32:03Speaker 1: Like that, which I thought was the oddest thing ever,
- 32:05Speaker 1: considering you can buy one brand new for forty five.
- 32:08Speaker 2: Right.
- 32:08Speaker 1: This one is someone sent me a BYD I forget.
- 32:11Speaker 1: I think it's like the E six or something like that.
- 32:14Speaker 1: Oh yes, yeah, I remember that sort of old school
- 32:16Speaker 1: BYD and they've got it. They've got one for sale
- 32:19Speaker 1: and it's never been I saw that that was it
- 32:22Speaker 1: never been new in Melbourne? Yeah? I was it in Melbourne. Yeah,
- 32:25Speaker 1: this this particular one was it had like no kilometers
- 32:28Speaker 1: on it, zero kilometers? Why would I buy that?
- 32:30Speaker 4: Yeah?
- 32:30Speaker 1: You are looking into it, aren't you. Yeah, that's that's
- 32:34Speaker 1: my Chemikazi car right there. I answered the question sponsored
- 32:37Speaker 1: vehicle to the day I die. There is nothing wrong
- 32:40Speaker 1: with the car with guitar strings in the doors yep.
- 32:43Speaker 1: And you know I mean that would to my contractual agreement. Sorry,
- 32:48Speaker 1: I'm just getting word from China emperors. E. Yeah, you
- 32:51Speaker 1: want me to take the shot, I'll take the shot. Okay.
