- 1:22Speaker 1: Welcome to Crime Watch Daily everyone. I'm Chris Hansen. We
- 1:25Speaker 1: start today in northern California, where a single mom was
- 1:29Speaker 1: brutally murdered and police need help finding her killer. Our
- 1:32Speaker 1: Melissa McCarty is here now with all new details.
- 1:35Speaker 10: Hey Melissa, Chris Ashley YMO. She wasn't nanny and doing
- 1:38Speaker 10: what she could to take care of her eight year
- 1:41Speaker 10: old daughter, but after a night out at her favorite
- 1:44Speaker 10: local bar, Ashley would end up dead. A brother's anguish
- 1:49Speaker 10: captured in words written just hours after receiving the worst
- 1:53Speaker 10: news of his life.
- 1:55Speaker 3: Do you want me to read it to you?
- 1:56Speaker 4: I can read it to you. Yeah.
- 1:58Speaker 3: On December sixteenth, thirty two, half clad and lifeless is
- 2:02Speaker 3: how they found you. The death of my sister puts
- 2:04Speaker 3: a hole in my heart. But the way you were
- 2:06Speaker 3: took is the unbearable part. What happened to you prior
- 2:10Speaker 3: to your untimely death? Did you plead firing for help
- 2:13Speaker 3: with your last dying breath?
- 2:18Speaker 10: Did she plead for help?
- 2:19Speaker 2: This was a moving fight, a vicious, moving fight.
- 2:23Speaker 10: Did anyone hear anything at all?
- 2:25Speaker 3: She was raped, she was murdered.
- 2:29Speaker 10: What really happened the night Ashley yama Ucci was killed.
- 2:33Speaker 4: No real man ever truths a woman like that?
- 2:38Speaker 10: And why is no one talking?
- 2:41Speaker 2: I believe there's more to this story.
- 2:43Speaker 4: This isn't a murder.
- 2:46Speaker 10: It is a picture. Those who knew Ashley yama Uchi
- 2:49Speaker 10: might find odd because it appears this was one of
- 2:52Speaker 10: the very last times she would be photographed without a
- 2:56Speaker 10: smile on her face.
- 3:02Speaker 6: She was always smiling, She was always happy. I met
- 3:06Speaker 6: Ashley in fourth grade. We lived down the street from
- 3:08Speaker 6: each other, and after school the first day of fourth grade,
- 3:12Speaker 6: my doorbell rang and it was her and she's said, Hi,
- 3:14Speaker 6: I'm Ashley. Do you want to be friends?
- 3:16Speaker 10: She randomly knocked on your door, just randomly knocked on
- 3:19Speaker 10: my door. That's going to be my friend.
- 3:22Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 3:24Speaker 10: And that was just the beginning of what her family
- 3:26Speaker 10: would describe as typical Ashley.
- 3:29Speaker 1: She just speaks her mind. There's no filter.
- 3:32Speaker 4: Really.
- 3:33Speaker 10: What kind of things did she like to do?
- 3:36Speaker 4: She collected a lot of shoes.
- 3:37Speaker 10: Actually, she was a shoe collector.
- 3:39Speaker 3: Yeah, she had a lot of shoes.
- 3:41Speaker 10: Not the cheapest habit, but to make ends meet, the
- 3:44Speaker 10: Bay Area native worked as a full time nanny.
- 3:46Speaker 3: She loved the kids, She definitely had fun with the kids.
- 3:51Speaker 10: Which was good considering she gave birth to one of
- 3:54Speaker 10: her own at the age of twenty five, a little
- 3:57Speaker 10: girl she adored.
- 3:58Speaker 3: She became more responsible, made sure that she was well
- 4:01Speaker 3: taken care of.
- 4:03Speaker 10: Unfortunately, things didn't work out between Ashley and the father
- 4:06Speaker 10: of her child, but by most accounts, they kept things amicable.
- 4:10Speaker 6: They had to split custody her and the father.
- 4:15Speaker 10: Eventually, Ashley met a new man named Parker, and they
- 4:18Speaker 10: quickly became a serious couple.
- 4:21Speaker 6: I knew Parker, I met him through her. He was
- 4:23Speaker 6: a nice guy.
- 4:24Speaker 10: He cared about Ashley a lot, and she was happy
- 4:28Speaker 10: with him.
- 4:29Speaker 6: She always knew that that's who she would end up with.
- 4:31Speaker 10: Really said.
- 4:32Speaker 6: They had their problems, but she always said that that's
- 4:35Speaker 6: who she was going to end up with.
- 4:37Speaker 10: But then just how big were those problems? There was
- 4:41Speaker 10: at least one report of domestic violence during their five
- 4:44Speaker 10: year relationship, and though the two appeared to stick it out,
- 4:48Speaker 10: by the time Ashley was thirty three, she seemed to
- 4:51Speaker 10: be making some big changes, as in pack up and
- 4:55Speaker 10: move to the other side of the country. Big now.
- 4:58Speaker 10: When she told you, Hey, I'm going to New York
- 5:01Speaker 10: In a few weeks. What did she say was the
- 5:04Speaker 10: reason for that to.
- 5:05Speaker 6: Go to school to be an insthetuician. She had talked
- 5:08Speaker 6: about it for several months before and when she had
- 5:11Speaker 6: the opportunity, she really wanted to do it.
- 5:13Speaker 1: Just two weeks before.
- 5:16Speaker 3: She passed, we were actually my mom and I We
- 5:19Speaker 3: were helping her move her stuff, package stuff.
- 5:22Speaker 4: Up, so it was in motion.
- 5:24Speaker 10: Yeah, would you say she was in a happy place.
- 5:29Speaker 5: I think she was excited about uh school, but she
- 5:34Speaker 5: was having a little bit of problems also, you know,
- 5:39Speaker 5: I guess with somebody else.
- 5:43Speaker 10: That's somebody else Ashley's mom believes was the father of
- 5:47Speaker 10: Ashley's daughter.
- 5:48Speaker 5: Because I don't think he wanted her to go to
- 5:50Speaker 5: New York, you know. I think there was a big
- 5:53Speaker 5: fuse going on then about her deciding to go there.
- 5:58Speaker 10: A moot point now, as Ashley would never make that trip. Monday,
- 6:04Speaker 10: December fifteenth, Ashley walks from work to hang out at
- 6:08Speaker 10: one of her favorite bars, a place well known to
- 6:10Speaker 10: Lieutenant Raffello Patta of the San Rafel PD. Tell me
- 6:14Speaker 10: about this bar, it was.
- 6:16Speaker 2: Called the Fourth Street Tavern.
- 6:17Speaker 4: I used to go there.
- 6:18Speaker 2: It just was a great place. I mean, it was
- 6:19Speaker 2: one of those places where you felt comfortable going there.
- 6:22Speaker 6: She frequently went there, and I know that she was
- 6:25Speaker 6: friends with the people that were regulars.
- 6:29Speaker 10: There, including the bartender.
- 6:32Speaker 6: The bartender I know is a friend of hers because
- 6:34Speaker 6: I've seen in her camera pictures of him at her.
- 6:36Speaker 10: House, and as far as anyone knows, that bartender would
- 6:41Speaker 10: be one of the last people to see Ashley alive.
- 6:45Speaker 10: The next morning, December sixteenth, rain slicks streets from the
- 6:50Speaker 10: night before in a gruesome discovery in the parking lot
- 6:53Speaker 10: behind the Fourth Street tavern.
- 6:57Speaker 2: We heard what was reported to be a dead child
- 6:59Speaker 2: atter naked behind this bar. We got there with and
- 7:04Speaker 2: it was really clear when we walked up that this
- 7:06Speaker 2: was a very bad incident.
- 7:10Speaker 10: Torn clothes, bruised flush. Ashley is the phyxiated body left
- 7:15Speaker 10: wedged between a parked car and an old chain link fence.
- 7:21Speaker 2: I have to tell you it was one of the
- 7:23Speaker 2: more difficult scenes that I'd been to. It was a
- 7:27Speaker 2: very violent crime scene.
- 7:28Speaker 4: It looked to me like she.
- 7:29Speaker 2: Fought very hard and that she did everything she could
- 7:32Speaker 2: to get away from this person. This was like a
- 7:35Speaker 2: desperate struggle to survive.
- 7:37Speaker 10: Now there was evidence of a sexual assault, as well,
- 7:40Speaker 10: you believe she was raped or an attempt.
- 7:43Speaker 2: It was pretty obvious that if that wasn't the primary
- 7:46Speaker 2: motivator for the attacker, it definitely was included in the attack.
- 7:50Speaker 2: But she was found nude from the waist down.
- 7:54Speaker 10: And these were the details Ashley's family and friends would
- 7:57Speaker 10: soon have to hear, forced final images of the person
- 8:01Speaker 10: they loved.
- 8:03Speaker 3: My brother had called me and asked if I had
- 8:06Speaker 3: heard about actually being murdered, and I had thought, you know,
- 8:12Speaker 3: I thought he was playing some sick and twisted joke.
- 8:14Speaker 3: At first, I said, come on, you know, shut up,
- 8:16Speaker 3: you know, and he said, no, you know, this is
- 8:21Speaker 3: I'm serious, And I shut.
- 8:23Speaker 4: Up, you know, didn't believe him.
- 8:25Speaker 3: And then when he put my mom on the phone,
- 8:26Speaker 3: then I got you know, I realized this is serious.
- 8:29Speaker 6: You know.
- 8:31Speaker 10: In fact, it was Ashley's mother who helped confirm the
- 8:34Speaker 10: identity of her body.
- 8:35Speaker 5: I called it the police piry and I called him
- 8:39Speaker 5: bout the tattoo ashually tattoo on her leg, and then
- 8:42Speaker 5: he said, yeah, And that's what I knew.
- 8:46Speaker 4: It's true, the.
- 8:48Speaker 10: Horrific way in which she died, and that her eight
- 8:51Speaker 10: year old daughter now had no mother. These things were clear,
- 8:54Speaker 10: the questions still unanswered. Do you think it was random?
- 8:58Speaker 10: Do you think she with someone she knew? Coming up?
- 9:02Speaker 2: We found some physical evidence.
- 9:05Speaker 10: The investigation into who killed Ashley yama Ucci.
- 9:09Speaker 6: I heard some guy walked up and said, what are
- 9:12Speaker 6: you doing with my girl?
- 9:13Speaker 4: And she's the only woman that I ever love?
- 9:17Speaker 10: A revealing interview with Ashley's boyfriend, there was a domestic
- 9:22Speaker 10: issue years ago between you two where police were involved.
- 9:24Speaker 10: Can you explain that?
- 9:29Speaker 1: Was it a crime of passion or was it rather
- 9:32Speaker 1: a crime of opportunity? These are the questions police are
- 9:35Speaker 1: asking after a single mother is found dead in a
- 9:38Speaker 1: parking lot behind her favorite bar. Melissa McCarty is back
- 9:42Speaker 1: with more of our all new investigations.
- 9:45Speaker 10: A doting mom, an infectious smile. These are no longer
- 9:50Speaker 10: the first images Keith Yamaguchi imagines when he thinks about
- 9:53Speaker 10: his little sister Ashley. Does the dark overshadow of the
- 9:57Speaker 10: light for you? At this point?
- 10:00Speaker 3: Fur less of a better term, I guess yeah, because
- 10:03Speaker 3: of what happened to her, Like I get scenarios in
- 10:05Speaker 3: my head. It's almost like a nightmare, a.
- 10:09Speaker 10: Nightmare in which Ashley Yamauchi was beaten sexually assaulted and
- 10:15Speaker 10: suffocated after leaving a San Rafel, California bar, But while
- 10:20Speaker 10: her body was left out behind the bar for all
- 10:23Speaker 10: to see, who killed her was much less clear.
- 10:26Speaker 2: This has been a difficult case from the beginning, and
- 10:30Speaker 2: we have not caught a break on this.
- 10:33Speaker 10: In the hours after the discovery, investigators canvassed the area,
- 10:37Speaker 10: starting with the large apartment complex immediately adjacent to where
- 10:41Speaker 10: the murder occurred. Did you have an abundance of witnesses?
- 10:46Speaker 2: Part of our investigation. We went knocked on every door
- 10:48Speaker 2: and we couldn't find anybody that had heard anything. It
- 10:51Speaker 2: had stormed the night before. Some people suggested that it
- 10:55Speaker 2: was because the rain was coming down pretty hard. You'd
- 10:59Speaker 2: think somebody would have heard something, so we're told they didn't.
- 11:04Speaker 10: Investigators also collected as much evidence as they could at
- 11:07Speaker 10: the scene, including DNA from Ashley's body, but because of
- 11:11Speaker 10: her prolonged exposure to the rain the night before, the
- 11:15Speaker 10: tests come back inconclusive.
- 11:18Speaker 2: We found some physical evidence that is helpful. Technology has
- 11:24Speaker 2: not totally come along to the point where we can
- 11:27Speaker 2: test all of it.
- 11:29Speaker 10: So no smoking gun pointing to Ashley's killer and no
- 11:32Speaker 10: witnesses outside the bar. But when police start asking questions inside,
- 11:37Speaker 10: a clear picture of Ashley's final hours began to emerge.
- 11:43Speaker 10: Do you think it was random? Do you think she
- 11:46Speaker 10: left with someone she knew?
- 11:48Speaker 2: That the bar itself really was the bartender and a
- 11:52Speaker 2: couple of the patrons that were inside. This was close
- 11:55Speaker 2: to closing time. What I know is it she went
- 11:57Speaker 2: outside with somebody she'd met in the bar, and who knows,
- 12:01Speaker 2: a lot of people go out the back door to
- 12:02Speaker 2: have a smoke whatever. What we're told is that the
- 12:04Speaker 2: bartender closed the door and locked it because he didn't
- 12:07Speaker 2: want people going in and out of the back door.
- 12:09Speaker 2: That was a business thing.
- 12:11Speaker 10: But Ashley's friend, Kelly McCormack says she's heard a slightly
- 12:15Speaker 10: different version of the night.
- 12:18Speaker 6: I heard she was talking to somebody who she knew
- 12:21Speaker 6: that was in that circle, and some guy walked up
- 12:26Speaker 6: and said, what are you doing with my girl? And
- 12:28Speaker 6: that the guy she was standing with just ran away
- 12:31Speaker 6: because he was scared.
- 12:32Speaker 10: No comment from police on that rumor, but Lieutenant Potta
- 12:36Speaker 10: says they did eventually track down the person Ashley supposedly left.
- 12:40Speaker 4: With that night.
- 12:42Speaker 2: Took a little doing to find that person, but we
- 12:44Speaker 2: eventually did. He was a person that was very interesting
- 12:49Speaker 2: to us because he had some behavior things that made
- 12:52Speaker 2: it kind of suspicious. You know, he pretty much picked
- 12:55Speaker 2: up and left right after the incident, didn't stick around,
- 13:00Speaker 2: didn't come forward to the police.
- 13:02Speaker 10: But the man apparently denied any involvement, and with no
- 13:06Speaker 10: physical evidence or witnesses to the murder, Cox had no
- 13:10Speaker 10: cause to charge him. Then again, he wasn't the only
- 13:14Speaker 10: person police wanted to talk to. There was the father
- 13:17Speaker 10: of Ashley's child, who police questioned and quickly released, and
- 13:21Speaker 10: then someone else. And you were saying at the time
- 13:24Speaker 10: she had a boyfriend police interviewed him. I think so, yeah,
- 13:28Speaker 10: Parker Harper, Ashley's long term boyfriend, though the two had
- 13:33Speaker 10: lived together for most of their five year relationship, at
- 13:36Speaker 10: the time of Ashley's murder, she was staying with a
- 13:39Speaker 10: friend before moving to New York and Parker was living elsewhere.
- 13:43Speaker 10: In fact, Parker himself says he was one of the
- 13:46Speaker 10: first people questioned by police in the hours after Ashley's death,
- 13:51Speaker 10: and now he's agreed to sit down with Crime Watch
- 13:54Speaker 10: Daily to tell his sign of the story about that night.
- 14:03Speaker 10: Did you talk to her that night?
- 14:07Speaker 4: You know, she texted me telling me that she was
- 14:10Speaker 4: going to go down to the bar. I just texted
- 14:14Speaker 4: her a good night, you don't be careful, and that
- 14:19Speaker 4: was it.
- 14:22Speaker 10: And then the morning after.
- 14:24Speaker 4: I know, I texted her a few times that morning
- 14:26Speaker 4: and like she didn't respond, which wasn't really that odd,
- 14:31Speaker 4: and I feared she was still asleep. And the police
- 14:34Speaker 4: came to my work and basically took me outside and
- 14:38Speaker 4: told me, you know, that she had passed away. From there,
- 14:43Speaker 4: we went to the police station. Obviously, I'm going to
- 14:47Speaker 4: be the first suspect, because unfortunately, in most of these situations,
- 14:50Speaker 4: it is someone you know, and it is of a
- 14:53Speaker 4: man or like a domestic violent situation.
- 14:56Speaker 10: And even Parker admits there was reason to suspect this
- 15:00Speaker 10: could have been that. I just want you to clear
- 15:04Speaker 10: up if you could, for us, there was a domestic
- 15:06Speaker 10: issue years ago between you two where police were involved.
- 15:09Speaker 4: Can you explain that you like the party? You know,
- 15:12Speaker 4: I was drinking, she was drinking, and things got out
- 15:16Speaker 4: of hand, people got shoved, I paid for you know,
- 15:20Speaker 4: I you know, I have anger issues, just something I
- 15:24Speaker 4: really regret in my life.
- 15:26Speaker 10: Parker says he and Ashley quickly patched things up after that.
- 15:30Speaker 10: As for what police thought past that.
- 15:33Speaker 4: First interview, I didn't feel like I was a suspect
- 15:36Speaker 4: at all, but obviously it has to cross their minds.
- 15:41Speaker 10: Officially, police have ruled out no one, but according to Parker,
- 15:45Speaker 10: as well as Ashley's friends and family, the relationship was
- 15:48Speaker 10: strong and even though Ashley was getting ready to move,
- 15:52Speaker 10: temporary distance didn't mean permanent separation. When you guys were
- 15:57Speaker 10: talking about the future, your future, what did that look
- 15:59Speaker 10: like like?
- 16:02Speaker 4: Hopefully, you know, like marriage and more family, you know,
- 16:05Speaker 4: But I mean that was something we both wanted and
- 16:11Speaker 4: talked about. But uh, yeah, that's definitly didn't happen.
- 16:17Speaker 10: She's pretty much your world at this point. I mean,
- 16:19Speaker 10: she was your family, she was your best friend, she
- 16:22Speaker 10: was the love.
- 16:23Speaker 4: Of your life. Oh definitely, yeah, just tuk. She's the
- 16:32Speaker 4: only woman that I ever loved.
- 16:39Speaker 10: And when it comes to the person who so violently
- 16:42Speaker 10: took her from.
- 16:43Speaker 4: The world, what kind of worthless piece steals an eight
- 16:47Speaker 4: year old o It's mother because they can't have their
- 16:52Speaker 4: sexual needs met? Disgusting?
- 17:00Speaker 10: So who was that man? After questioning multiple people and
- 17:06Speaker 10: following up on several leads, police decided to go back
- 17:10Speaker 10: to the bar to ask more questions, and that's when
- 17:14Speaker 10: everything suddenly changed. Now I'm told this bar owner was
- 17:18Speaker 10: an exactly eager to help out. Did he tell his
- 17:22Speaker 10: employees not to talk?
- 17:23Speaker 2: We were told that they did not have to talk
- 17:26Speaker 2: to us, and then all of a sudden, everybody didn't
- 17:30Speaker 2: want to talk to us without a lawyer, which blew
- 17:33Speaker 2: us away.
- 17:36Speaker 10: Coming up, we do know that he was one of
- 17:38Speaker 10: the last people to see Ashley yama Uji alive. I
- 17:42Speaker 10: go searching for answers from one of Ashley's last contacts,
- 17:45Speaker 10: and I.
- 17:46Speaker 2: Have this sick feeling that we may have talked to
- 17:49Speaker 2: this person.
- 17:50Speaker 10: How close are police to finding the killer?
- 17:56Speaker 1: Now to the conclusion of today's murder mystery out of
- 17:59Speaker 1: Northern California, let's head back to Melissa McCarty Chris.
- 18:03Speaker 10: Lieutenant Ralph Potta has only one unsolved Thomas side in
- 18:06Speaker 10: his long career, the murder of Ashley yama Uchi, and
- 18:11Speaker 10: he is determined to close this case just like all
- 18:14Speaker 10: the others. It's been eight years since soon to be
- 18:18Speaker 10: retired Lieutenant Rafello Pottack began investigating this savage murder of
- 18:23Speaker 10: Ashley yama Uchi.
- 18:25Speaker 2: I have a year and a half left. I really
- 18:27Speaker 2: don't want to leave with this left behind. I want
- 18:30Speaker 2: to bring some justice to Ashley, to her daughter, and
- 18:33Speaker 2: I don't think people should get away with murder.
- 18:36Speaker 10: But since the beginning, police have caught few breaks. DNA
- 18:41Speaker 10: evidence found at the scene has come back inconclusive, and
- 18:44Speaker 10: that's not all. Not long after Ashley's murder, detectives went
- 18:49Speaker 10: back to talk to the people at the bar where
- 18:50Speaker 10: she was last seen alive and later found dead. But
- 18:54Speaker 10: to Lieutenant Potta's surprise, everyone suddenly stopped talking. You mentioned
- 19:00Speaker 10: the bar owner. Did he tell his employees to not
- 19:04Speaker 10: speak to you?
- 19:05Speaker 6: Well?
- 19:05Speaker 2: I think initially he was trying to be as helpful
- 19:10Speaker 2: as he could, But without speaking for him, I could
- 19:14Speaker 2: only assume that there was some apprehension, perhaps because it
- 19:19Speaker 2: happened in the bar, I mean brings attention, unwanted attention
- 19:23Speaker 2: to them by the police and buy the alcoholic beverage
- 19:26Speaker 2: control board and the community in which they're in.
- 19:30Speaker 10: So I get that, but this is a homicide, and
- 19:32Speaker 10: Ashley's loved one say it's long pastime for someone to
- 19:37Speaker 10: say something.
- 19:38Speaker 5: I do feel that the bar has something, they know something,
- 19:42Speaker 5: I really feel strongly about that.
- 19:45Speaker 4: You know, what if that was your wife, you know,
- 19:53Speaker 4: I mean people don't like to talk to the cops.
- 19:55Speaker 4: I understand that, but I mean, there's no gray area here.
- 20:02Speaker 4: There's no there's no gray area. This is black or white.
- 20:07Speaker 4: This isn't a murder, you know.
- 20:10Speaker 10: Crime Watch Daily wanted to get the bartender side of
- 20:13Speaker 10: the story, but failed to reach him by phone. Still,
- 20:18Speaker 10: we were determined to give him his say. If we
- 20:21Speaker 10: end up visiting this bartender, is there anything that you
- 20:24Speaker 10: would want to ask or want him to answer?
- 20:27Speaker 6: Who is she talking to that night? He was the
- 20:30Speaker 6: one serving her all night. He would know if someone
- 20:33Speaker 6: was buying her drinks. He would know if she was
- 20:36Speaker 6: talking to a stranger or somebody that she knew. He's
- 20:40Speaker 6: I think has more answers than anybody.
- 20:44Speaker 10: And with that assertion in mind, we tracked down two
- 20:47Speaker 10: possible addresses. There was no answer at the first address,
- 20:54Speaker 10: so I went to door number two, unfortunately, another dead end.
- 21:02Speaker 10: We knocked several times and no one answered. We do
- 21:04Speaker 10: know that he is one of the last people to
- 21:07Speaker 10: see Ashley Yamauchi alive that night. Do you think police
- 21:11Speaker 10: will ever find who's responsible for killing her?
- 21:14Speaker 4: I think they know who's responsible for killing her Unfortunately,
- 21:19Speaker 4: at this point, there's nothing they can do about it.
- 21:23Speaker 10: In fact, Lieutenant Patta nearly confirms as much, but he
- 21:27Speaker 10: also says they may be closer than ever.
- 21:29Speaker 2: You know, I looked at this case yesterday just to
- 21:32Speaker 2: go over it one more time, and I was rereading
- 21:37Speaker 2: a statement from somebody and it kind of made my
- 21:38Speaker 2: blood go cold when I read it. I believe we've
- 21:41Speaker 2: talked to this guy. I think the person that did
- 21:44Speaker 2: this has sat where you're sitting and we've had a conversation.
- 21:49Speaker 2: I can't prove it, which is why this case has
- 21:50Speaker 2: gone no farther at this point. But I just, I
- 21:54Speaker 2: just I have this sick feeling that we may have talked.
- 21:59Speaker 4: To this person.
- 22:01Speaker 10: Lieutenant Potta says he's now narrowed his focus to at
- 22:04Speaker 10: least three people, and while he couldn't tell us who
- 22:07Speaker 10: they are, he says they should know justice could be
- 22:10Speaker 10: coming soon.
- 22:12Speaker 2: We resubmit physical evidence all the time in this case,
- 22:15Speaker 2: so we're not done with it. It's just a matter
- 22:17Speaker 2: of technology catching up to what we have.
- 22:19Speaker 11: What would you say to that person if they were watching,
- 22:24Speaker 11: I would say, take a deep breath, admit what she did,
- 22:29Speaker 11: be responsible to be accountable.
- 22:32Speaker 10: Accountable for a night that would change multiple lives.
- 22:35Speaker 6: This person still enjoys their family, their friends, they go out,
- 22:40Speaker 6: they continue living, and for no reason, she doesn't. Her
- 22:45Speaker 6: daughter doesn't have a mother, Her mom doesn't have a daughter.
- 22:48Speaker 5: I do miss her.
- 22:49Speaker 2: I do miss her a lot.
- 22:50Speaker 5: All I care about right now, it's just this for us.
- 22:53Speaker 5: We're actually and my granddaughter.
- 22:57Speaker 4: I think about her every day. I want her daughter
- 22:59Speaker 4: didn't know how much she loved her. She was doing
- 23:03Speaker 4: what she was doing to try to make good for her.
- 23:06Speaker 4: You know, we just have to try to, you know,
- 23:10Speaker 4: just remember all the good things and forget about the
- 23:14Speaker 4: scumbag that did this. But I'll always love her.
- 23:19Speaker 10: As for Ashley's brother, who still has nightmares about his
- 23:23Speaker 10: little sister's final moments, the pain today is as visceral
- 23:28Speaker 10: as it was when he sat down and wrote this
- 23:31Speaker 10: poem to read at her funeral.
- 23:32Speaker 3: Why were you all alone? And where were your friends?
- 23:35Speaker 3: Were you with a cold killer? But as a friend,
- 23:37Speaker 3: he pretends, I worry for mom and how to relieve
- 23:40Speaker 3: some of her pain. How can I help her If
- 23:42Speaker 3: I can't even maintain whoever he did is evil? They
- 23:45Speaker 3: can't be undone. I wish your fears turn reality as
- 23:48Speaker 3: the final outcome. The sorrow I feel as an overwhelming
- 23:51Speaker 3: pain to know I won't see you alive every game.
- 23:55Speaker 1: Someone out there knows what happened to Ashley, and police
- 23:58Speaker 1: have fifty thousand reads for them to step forward. That's
- 24:02Speaker 1: the amount of the reward for anyone who provides new
- 24:04Speaker 1: information that leads to an arrest and conviction in this case.
- 24:08Speaker 1: If you know anything, you can call the sanra Fell
- 24:11Speaker 1: Police Department's tip line. That number is one four five
- 24:14Speaker 1: forty five, three thousand. Up next, a heartbreaking mystery in
- 24:20Speaker 1: Tucson after a six year old is snatched from her bedroom.
- 24:24Speaker 1: Could Little Isabelle's kidnapping be connected to the case of
- 24:27Speaker 1: another missing girl? Crime Watch Daily with the new clues
- 24:31Speaker 1: just discovered by police coming up now as a crime
- 24:38Speaker 1: Watch Daily update on the story we brought you out
- 24:40Speaker 1: of Arizona. A six year old girl is tucked into
- 24:43Speaker 1: bed by her parents. However, the next morning she's gone,
- 24:47Speaker 1: and police say it appears she was snatched right from
- 24:49Speaker 1: her bedroom window in the wastelands of the Arizona Desert
- 24:55Speaker 1: outside Tucson. Investigators have just made a grim discovery the
- 25:00Speaker 1: remains of a little girl. Isabelle Sellers, an adorable six
- 25:04Speaker 1: year old girl, kidnap and taken through her bedroom window
- 25:09Speaker 1: in the dead of the night. I didn't make much sarger,
- 25:14Speaker 1: so consider a dramatic new development in the cold case
- 25:19Speaker 1: of a little girl lost.
- 25:21Speaker 12: The two Some Police department will continue to actively pursue
- 25:26Speaker 12: those responsible for any kind of involvement in Isabelle's death
- 25:32Speaker 12: and disappearance.
- 25:35Speaker 1: Is Isabelle's kidnapping connected to the case of another missing girl?
- 25:39Speaker 1: Will investigators find answers in this surveillance video shot the
- 25:43Speaker 1: night isabel vanished and will DNA solve this cold case
- 25:47Speaker 1: those baffled police and terrified families in Tucson. Isabelle was
- 25:52Speaker 1: the baby of the Seller's family, adored by her parents,
- 25:55Speaker 1: Becky and Sergio, and her two older brothers.
- 25:58Speaker 8: She has her brother's around her fingers, so whatever she
- 26:02Speaker 8: wanted them to do, they did. And she loves to paint.
- 26:06Speaker 8: She loves to color and do things like that in baseball.
- 26:09Speaker 8: She loved to play in baseball.
- 26:11Speaker 1: It was just after eleven PM when Becky laid out
- 26:14Speaker 1: Isabelle's softball uniform for a game the next morning that
- 26:17Speaker 1: she kissed her daughter a good night, and.
- 26:19Speaker 8: I'm like, okay, he's the bell and you're getting really tired.
- 26:21Speaker 8: It's probably time for you to go to bed, and
- 26:23Speaker 8: you have to get up early, and so does mom.
- 26:26Speaker 1: The next morning, Becky goes to work in Sergio goes
- 26:29Speaker 1: to wake up Isabelle for her game, but finds her
- 26:31Speaker 1: bed empty.
- 26:32Speaker 7: Boys are waking up at this point, and so I'm like, January,
- 26:37Speaker 7: your sister's at and You're like no, and started looking
- 26:39Speaker 7: everywhere and then started saying, boys, help me find her.
- 26:42Speaker 7: I don't know where she's at.
- 26:43Speaker 1: Sergio and his sons frantically searched the house and yard.
- 26:46Speaker 1: Then one of the sons comes to him with chilling.
- 26:49Speaker 7: News and I'm looking in the garage and that's when
- 26:52Speaker 7: Ceitio came running in and saying, Dad, her screens laying
- 26:56Speaker 7: on the back you know, her windows busted out.
- 26:58Speaker 1: Sergio races to the back yard. He finds Isabelle's bedroom
- 27:01Speaker 1: window wide open, the screen is on the ground. It
- 27:04Speaker 1: looks like someone snatched little Isabelle from her own bed.
- 27:07Speaker 7: Kind of you know, freaking out. At this point, came
- 27:10Speaker 7: back in here, called Becky at work.
- 27:13Speaker 8: I can't remember the drive at all. I just know
- 27:15Speaker 8: that I was freaking out and scared, and I just
- 27:20Speaker 8: out of my mind.
- 27:22Speaker 1: Becky calls nine to one one, barely holding it together.
- 27:25Speaker 6: So who noticed her?
- 27:26Speaker 7: Gone?
- 27:27Speaker 10: Your husband?
- 27:28Speaker 1: My husband?
- 27:28Speaker 4: I went to work this morning at seven, and I
- 27:31Speaker 4: just I didn't even commit sir.
- 27:35Speaker 10: Okay, they're almost there, man, Okay.
- 27:40Speaker 1: In the backyard, police find a set of work boot
- 27:43Speaker 1: footprints near an electrical box and on top of a
- 27:45Speaker 1: gas meter. Then a shotgun. Cops turned the spotlight on Sergio,
- 27:50Speaker 1: Isabel's father. While Becky's call to nine one one appeared
- 27:53Speaker 1: to be panicked, Sergio's was anything but.
- 27:57Speaker 11: Hello, I need to report a missing child.
- 28:00Speaker 9: At least she was adapted from my house.
- 28:02Speaker 5: Is mom there also, and she had just lets work.
- 28:05Speaker 5: I just called her and I told her to gift
- 28:06Speaker 5: her that homework.
- 28:08Speaker 1: Sergio's explanation. He couldn't bring himself to believe his little
- 28:11Speaker 1: girl had been taken.
- 28:13Speaker 7: I didn't want to be frantic. I didn't want to
- 28:15Speaker 7: be panicked. I wanted to be as articulate as I could,
- 28:18Speaker 7: you know, I didn't want to be misunderstood.
- 28:20Speaker 1: As the months passed, the Sellers family is put under
- 28:23Speaker 1: the police microscope from.
- 28:25Speaker 8: The beginning, the police said, everybody's a person of interest.
- 28:29Speaker 8: We're okay with going through the ringer and having everything
- 28:34Speaker 8: part of our lives investigated, and by all means go
- 28:37Speaker 8: right ahead.
- 28:39Speaker 1: What does Sergio say to people who assume he might
- 28:41Speaker 1: have something to do with Isabelle's disappearance?
- 28:44Speaker 4: Nothing?
- 28:44Speaker 7: I mean, I really don't know what to answer to that, because,
- 28:48Speaker 7: other than you're wrong.
- 28:51Speaker 1: It may appear to be suspicious behavior, but Sergio has
- 28:54Speaker 1: never been named a suspect.
- 28:56Speaker 2: All the family members have been interviewed, and.
- 29:02Speaker 4: We haven't ruled anybody out.
- 29:05Speaker 1: Could there be clues in this surveillance video uncovered by
- 29:08Speaker 1: Crimewatch Daily. It comes from three store security cameras pointing
- 29:12Speaker 1: toward Isabel's street. At one twenty four am, a large
- 29:16Speaker 1: van passes through. Two thirty six am, a private security
- 29:19Speaker 1: vehicle stops and hits the lights. Then at three point
- 29:23Speaker 1: thirty two am, a figure crosses the front parking line.
- 29:26Speaker 1: A little later another figure of a man crossing. Then
- 29:29Speaker 1: at about eight forty five am, you can see Isabelle's
- 29:32Speaker 1: family searching around the house, and here you see Becky
- 29:35Speaker 1: racing home in her suv. But never did we see
- 29:39Speaker 1: an image of a little girl. Next, Sergio hires his
- 29:44Speaker 1: own private investigator. He points the finger at another family member.
- 29:48Speaker 9: The same individual shipped his car off to another state,
- 29:52Speaker 9: then hired one of the best lawyers in Tucson and Bengo.
- 29:55Speaker 4: Another red flag and.
- 29:57Speaker 1: The possible link between Isabelle's murder is and another girl.
- 30:03Speaker 1: Now back to today's Crime Launch daily update on six
- 30:06Speaker 1: year old Isabelle Sells. The little Arizona girl went to
- 30:09Speaker 1: sleep in her room like she always did. However, she
- 30:12Speaker 1: would not be there in the morning. Now, after years
- 30:15Speaker 1: of searching for her, detectives have announced a huge development.
- 30:19Speaker 6: In the case.
- 30:22Speaker 1: The discovery of the remains of six year old isabel
- 30:24Speaker 1: Sells dramatically turned a kidnapping case into what could be
- 30:28Speaker 1: a murder investigation.
- 30:30Speaker 12: We appreciate the fact that this case has been very traumatic,
- 30:34Speaker 12: not only for the family and friends of the family,
- 30:37Speaker 12: but also for the entire larger community.
- 30:41Speaker 1: Cops keep details of their investigation under wraps, but they
- 30:45Speaker 1: say the discovery of Isabelle's remains in the desert was
- 30:48Speaker 1: not by happenstance. After Isabelle was snatched from her bedroom,
- 30:53Speaker 1: investigators have been looking at everyone close to her, even
- 30:56Speaker 1: her own family.
- 30:58Speaker 7: It feels like the investor stigation has never gone any
- 31:01Speaker 7: further than right here. That's what is so frustrating.
- 31:05Speaker 1: That frustration drove Isabel's parents, Sergio and Becky Selas to
- 31:10Speaker 1: hire a private investigator. His name is Jerry Snyder and
- 31:14Speaker 1: the person he believes to be the prime suspect a shocker.
- 31:18Speaker 9: We looked at one of the relatives of the family
- 31:21Speaker 9: and his friend that basically didn't have six hours that
- 31:26Speaker 9: they could explain as to where they were the day
- 31:28Speaker 9: that she went missing.
- 31:30Speaker 1: That relative, Justin Moster Morino, Becky's cousin. Becky and Sergio,
- 31:35Speaker 1: say he previously lived with them for more than a year.
- 31:38Speaker 4: We need her home, safe, safe and sound.
- 31:40Speaker 8: You know.
- 31:41Speaker 1: Moster Morino made this in passion plea the day Isabel vanished.
- 31:45Speaker 1: But within two weeks, Justin himself disappeared from Tucson.
- 31:50Speaker 9: Shortly thereafter, the same individual shipped his car off to
- 31:54Speaker 9: another state. He then hired one of the best lawyers
- 31:58Speaker 9: in Tucson, criminal lawyer and you know Bingo. Another red flag.
- 32:05Speaker 1: Police never named Justin a suspect. He denied our request
- 32:09Speaker 1: for a comment, but the friend who claims he was
- 32:11Speaker 1: with him the night Isabelle disappeared. Did speak to our Andrea, Isiam,
- 32:15Speaker 1: how you doing?
- 32:18Speaker 6: All right?
- 32:20Speaker 4: So it was April twentieth. Uh what it is?
- 32:25Speaker 6: You could say?
- 32:26Speaker 1: Well, all right, cool, it's.
- 32:28Speaker 4: The National Weed Smoking Day.
- 32:30Speaker 9: So of course we drank and smoked weed and you know,
- 32:34Speaker 9: did all the fun stuff.
- 32:35Speaker 1: The Sella's family's private eye claimed Sebastian and Justin partied
- 32:39Speaker 1: until about two am, waking up around eight. What did
- 32:42Speaker 1: Sebastian say, Masra Marina was doing during those six hours?
- 32:47Speaker 10: But you admit you don't know for sure if he
- 32:53Speaker 10: did leave that night.
- 32:55Speaker 4: Well, of course I don't. Like I said, I was asleep,
- 32:57Speaker 4: but I guess not.
- 33:01Speaker 1: Prime Watch Daily wants to give Justin Mustermrino the opportunity
- 33:05Speaker 1: to tell us what he knows, if anything, about the
- 33:07Speaker 1: disappearance of Isabelle. Justin, we just have a couple of questions.
- 33:11Speaker 6: It's not a big deal.
- 33:14Speaker 1: So Andrea went to his mother's place in Florida. That's
- 33:17Speaker 1: where the Sellers family PI says. He shipped his geep this.
- 33:21Speaker 6: Is the house, this is mom's house.
- 33:23Speaker 2: This is where Justin, we're told, is staying.
- 33:30Speaker 1: I don't know what else to do.
- 33:31Speaker 6: I think we have to do with.
- 33:34Speaker 4: Just hope to God he's in here.
- 33:44Speaker 1: We tried every door, no response. Cops have been frustrated.
- 33:52Speaker 1: Many of the twenty two hundred leads they've gotten have
- 33:55Speaker 1: taken them to a dead end.
- 33:57Speaker 6: Some of them have shed some light on some things, others.
- 34:00Speaker 9: We're still working this case.
- 34:02Speaker 2: It's an open, active investigation.
- 34:06Speaker 1: And now there could be a new direction in the investigation.
- 34:09Speaker 1: Crime Launch Daily has learned exclusively that Isabelle's remains were
- 34:13Speaker 1: found just a quarter mile from the body of another
- 34:15Speaker 1: missing girl, thirteen year old Marabel Gonzales. Mirabelle vanished a
- 34:20Speaker 1: little over two years after Isabelle disappeared two son. Cops
- 34:24Speaker 1: aren't saying whether the two cases are connected. After the
- 34:28Speaker 1: terrified community learned that Isabelle was dead, friends and neighbors
- 34:32Speaker 1: held a candlelight vigil.
- 34:34Speaker 10: She's a little girl and we all have kids. Every year,
- 34:39Speaker 10: I would tell my husband, tell my family, you know,
- 34:42Speaker 10: we would just talk about it and really just pray
- 34:45Speaker 10: one day she would make it back home.
- 34:49Speaker 1: But Isabelle never came home. That show of love and
- 34:53Speaker 1: compassion from strangers is small comfort to a family who
- 34:57Speaker 1: had hoped and prayed their precious little girl would someday
- 35:00Speaker 1: be found a lot.
- 35:01Speaker 7: More than anything.
- 35:01Speaker 1: I am so sorry. I am so sorry.
- 35:04Speaker 6: I could protect you.
- 35:06Speaker 4: I wasn't there.
- 35:07Speaker 2: I wasn't there to stop this rappening to you.
- 35:11Speaker 6: I'm so sorry. I'm so sorry. Please please please hear us.
- 35:22Speaker 6: I'm so sorry. I could protect you.
