- 1:19Speaker 5: I just I just love it. I love it like
- 1:21Speaker 5: the third time I've listened to it, and I just
- 1:23Speaker 5: love it. I love the sneaky negative Jill Jill, Jill him.
- 1:27Speaker 9: That was my first time listening to it, and that
- 1:30Speaker 9: was amazing.
- 1:30Speaker 5: It's a banger. That was fantastic.
- 1:32Speaker 2: I was overcome, like I just I couldn't believe it.
- 1:35Speaker 2: I mean, it's so absolutely a banger.
- 1:39Speaker 9: Isn't a banger?
- 1:39Speaker 2: It's a banger?
- 1:40Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 1:41Speaker 2: Yeah, no, thank you Jill.
- 1:42Speaker 5: That was tremendous.
- 1:44Speaker 2: I don't I don't know. I was like, I don't
- 1:45Speaker 2: know what to say. You lost your you lost your practice. No,
- 1:48Speaker 2: I know you've been bitching about it, be bitching about it.
- 1:50Speaker 2: And she's like, we gotta throw them a bone. So
- 1:52Speaker 2: I don't know when when when one will have to
- 1:54Speaker 2: cue that up. But the start with the here we
- 1:56Speaker 2: go that was that was brilliant.
- 1:57Speaker 1: That's fantastic. All Right, it is Tuesday here at Jillette
- 2:02Speaker 1: Stadium and it's Deuce, it's Tamara in her leopard skin,
- 2:11Speaker 1: Evan Paul, myself, Matt and Na Booth.
- 2:14Speaker 9: Wait what was it?
- 2:15Speaker 5: Can you do that again?
- 2:16Speaker 9: Wow? And this will probably be my last time wearing
- 2:20Speaker 9: this to start.
- 2:22Speaker 1: The season is over. The Patriots wrapped up the season
- 2:26Speaker 1: with a seventeen to three loss to the Jets in
- 2:31Speaker 1: a game. I thought there was no way they would lose.
- 2:34Speaker 1: I you know, I got to be honest.
- 2:35Speaker 5: I didn't think they would lose either.
- 2:36Speaker 9: Yeah, I picked them right.
- 2:38Speaker 1: Yeah, we were all back on board.
- 2:40Speaker 5: I mean, I thought there was a chance they could lose,
- 2:41Speaker 5: but I didn't think they would.
- 2:42Speaker 1: The fact that they just couldn't put together anything, and
- 2:45Speaker 1: I know the weather was bad and everything, but still
- 2:49Speaker 1: they managed to run for one hundred and eighty yards.
- 2:51Speaker 1: You know, just really disappointing into the season, but typical
- 2:57Speaker 1: of what the season has been. Disappointing. Uh, And of
- 3:01Speaker 1: course the big story is what's gonna happen with Bill Belichick.
- 3:06Speaker 1: We don't know. We know according to reports that they
- 3:09Speaker 1: met yesterday. What's going on today? We have no idea,
- 3:16Speaker 1: no idea.
- 3:17Speaker 2: Yeah, hearing various reports. I don't know about the Jeff
- 3:21Speaker 2: how thing where it's like they met, they're going to
- 3:23Speaker 2: meet again. It was just classically nothing nothing.
- 3:26Speaker 5: Really if he says they could do this, if he
- 3:28Speaker 5: doesn't stay, they could do this or that.
- 3:30Speaker 1: Yeah, breaking players have packed up and they're gone.
- 3:33Speaker 2: Yeah, you know, saw them all the human tark that's
- 3:36Speaker 2: always it's always a tough.
- 3:38Speaker 1: And then there was a story today by Mike Katlick,
- 3:41Speaker 1: who had extensive time with Trent Brown. Did you read that, Dakota,
- 3:46Speaker 1: I'm sorry guy, Dakota.
- 3:49Speaker 9: Sorry, I just want to give you a proper credit.
- 3:51Speaker 1: Yeah, sorry, Dakota, my bad. But he got some time
- 3:55Speaker 1: with Trent Brown and Trent Brown unloaded. I saw a
- 3:59Speaker 1: lot of people, Oh, Trent Brown speaking the truth, like
- 4:03Speaker 1: media people saying like, why is that any you know,
- 4:07Speaker 1: more true than the other stuff? You know, But anyway,
- 4:11Speaker 1: you know, it's interesting to hear what he had to say.
- 4:15Speaker 2: I mean, I think, uh, I mean, some of it
- 4:17Speaker 2: we can talk about because he obviously makes himself out to.
- 4:19Speaker 1: Be, you know, sympathetic figure.
- 4:21Speaker 2: He was grinding, but also at the same time saying like, yeah,
- 4:23Speaker 2: I didn't really want to go to camp early and
- 4:25Speaker 2: it's really hard there, and right you know, he's kind
- 4:27Speaker 2: of talking out about side of his mouth. I just
- 4:28Speaker 2: I thought the interesting thing was the Kearris and Mason thing,
- 4:30Speaker 2: and we've talked about that stuff. The only thing, you know,
- 4:33Speaker 2: right there, it was like, you know, keep these guys,
- 4:35Speaker 2: you're not You're not constantly chasing your tail form for
- 4:37Speaker 2: that position. So that to me was.
- 4:39Speaker 1: When a player is that specific about personnel moves? You
- 4:42Speaker 1: know that he's not the only one talking about like
- 4:45Speaker 1: that's that's the scuttle butt.
- 4:46Speaker 9: Sure, and he was on that twenty one line, right,
- 4:49Speaker 9: so like that's that was his line for a while.
- 4:52Speaker 9: And I think he we all talk about it all
- 4:54Speaker 9: the time. How they've they've fallen apart since then, that
- 4:57Speaker 9: those series of moves on the interior, Toney Carris Mason,
- 5:02Speaker 9: that was a domino effect and they've never recovered, you.
- 5:05Speaker 1: Know, And it's funny. But despite all of that, he's like, yeah,
- 5:07Speaker 1: I'd be open to come back, but you know, we'd
- 5:09Speaker 1: have to talk.
- 5:09Speaker 5: You know what it is.
- 5:11Speaker 1: But he doesn't have any options.
- 5:13Speaker 5: If they give him more money than anybody else, like
- 5:15Speaker 5: the last time, he'll come back. That. I mean, that's
- 5:18Speaker 5: what it's about for these guys.
- 5:19Speaker 1: But for most most of them, no, that can't happen.
- 5:22Speaker 5: I would highly doubt it. But the premise of what
- 5:26Speaker 5: he talked about with Carris is something that we talk
- 5:28Speaker 5: about a lot. When we were talking about like the
- 5:31Speaker 5: draft picks and the young players, and I think you
- 5:34Speaker 5: can't identify it. You can't. There's not a like a
- 5:37Speaker 5: you know, a spreadsheet that has a column that you
- 5:39Speaker 5: can say, this is actually part of your team building.
- 5:43Speaker 5: But I do think that you're right, Fred, when they
- 5:47Speaker 5: have a guy like Ted Carris, and this is like,
- 5:50Speaker 5: I want to focus on Carris in particular because there's
- 5:53Speaker 5: a lot of people that would say, well, you know,
- 5:54Speaker 5: Joe Toney, that's a lot of money, Jack Mason, they
- 5:56Speaker 5: gave a lot of money Ted Carris. We're not talking
- 5:59Speaker 5: about a lot of money, which is talking about average,
- 6:02Speaker 5: you know, pretty much a bargain for a starting caliber
- 6:05Speaker 5: offensive lineman. And when you let those guys go, it
- 6:09Speaker 5: does I think resonate in the locker room and people
- 6:12Speaker 5: look at that and say, God, like Ted Carris.
- 6:15Speaker 1: He did.
- 6:16Speaker 5: He was like a late round draft way up, did
- 6:19Speaker 5: everything that the team wanted him to do, ascend it
- 6:21Speaker 5: to a starting job and played really well in that
- 6:23Speaker 5: role and they still let him go over peanuts. People
- 6:27Speaker 5: over peanuts.
- 6:28Speaker 9: Honestly, he was he was a media favorite. I love
- 6:31Speaker 9: Ted Harris. I mean that guy is head a great
- 6:33Speaker 9: He's a great human beings. Walter Peyton, Man of the
- 6:36Speaker 9: Year nominee for the Bengals this year team captain. You know, like,
- 6:40Speaker 9: that's the guy that they should have been building around.
- 6:42Speaker 9: But it's like they have a boat that's taking on water,
- 6:46Speaker 9: and instead of just plugging holes that already exist, they
- 6:49Speaker 9: just start creating these other holes. And that's exactly what
- 6:52Speaker 9: they did on the offensive line was and that's kind
- 6:54Speaker 9: of what Trent's point was was he already had to
- 6:57Speaker 9: draft a new quarterback, get receivers, do all these other things,
- 7:00Speaker 9: and now you're starting over on the offensive line too,
- 7:03Speaker 9: and they just they spread themselves too thin. You don't
- 7:05Speaker 9: have all the resources in the world to be able
- 7:07Speaker 9: to fix everything all at once.
- 7:10Speaker 4: That's why I'm concerned. I'm like, who ultimately made the decision?
- 7:14Speaker 4: Was it the scouting department?
- 7:15Speaker 3: Was it Bill?
- 7:16Speaker 4: Like?
- 7:16Speaker 1: Who?
- 7:16Speaker 4: Like, who's that fault?
- 7:17Speaker 10: Here?
- 7:18Speaker 1: In Bill's own worlds, he had final.
- 7:20Speaker 5: Say for for who designed and who not. That's one
- 7:22Speaker 5: hundred percent Bill, absolutely, Yeah.
- 7:25Speaker 2: You know what else resonated for me was the thing
- 7:27Speaker 2: about it just sucks not knowing your schedule for the
- 7:29Speaker 2: next day until the night before, and it's impossible to plan.
- 7:32Speaker 2: I have I've heard that from a lot of people,
- 7:34Speaker 2: and I think we're all on that schedule too. We
- 7:36Speaker 2: all we all get that.
- 7:37Speaker 5: Yeah, I hope to get a little top golf in tonight.
- 7:39Speaker 1: That's been a com excuse me, a common theme throughout
- 7:43Speaker 1: the years, most more from coach, you know, coaches than
- 7:47Speaker 1: we play as.
- 7:48Speaker 5: Going back, you know, and I can tell your stories,
- 7:50Speaker 5: like literally going back to like the early part of
- 7:52Speaker 5: the dynasty.
- 7:53Speaker 2: This was always it keeping.
- 7:55Speaker 1: That's not a new thing with Bill's.
- 7:57Speaker 5: Bill has always been like that.
- 7:58Speaker 1: Yeah, so that's not like, oh.
- 8:00Speaker 5: That's a reason why it doesn't work.
- 8:01Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, yeah, that's not a thing of late. He's
- 8:04Speaker 1: since the beginning. He's always let's worry about what we
- 8:06Speaker 1: have to worry about. Now, we'll make schedules for next month,
- 8:09Speaker 1: next month, you know. And but I get what Trent
- 8:13Speaker 1: Brown's saying, you know, like you have families. You want
- 8:16Speaker 1: to know when you can have your time off your
- 8:18Speaker 1: wife for significant others at home, and she's wondering, you know,
- 8:22Speaker 1: how can I plan this stuff? And you just don't
- 8:25Speaker 1: have any answers, And it's frustrating. It makes a difficult
- 8:28Speaker 1: job even more difficult for no reason. Yeah, for no reason.
- 8:32Speaker 2: And we're kind of collateral damage here, like we're under
- 8:34Speaker 2: the same guidelines. We don't know, like, you know, hey,
- 8:37Speaker 2: oh luck room is going to be at this time
- 8:38Speaker 2: when when you were supposed to pick up your kid
- 8:40Speaker 2: or you know, those kind of things. It's like, oh rap.
- 8:42Speaker 1: You know, when you're winning, that stuff is fine, but
- 8:45Speaker 1: when you're not, that becomes really bad. And you know,
- 8:48Speaker 1: the forty nine is, for example, the exact opposite like
- 8:52Speaker 1: they're famous for, like sending flowers to the wives, having
- 8:56Speaker 1: dinners where families can come to the facility when they
- 8:59Speaker 1: know they're gonna work late and at least they can
- 9:01Speaker 1: get some time in and have dinner with everybody. They
- 9:06Speaker 1: take that into consideration. They they're acknowledging this is tough.
- 9:10Speaker 1: It's a sacrifice for everyone. We're gonna do what we
- 9:13Speaker 1: can to make it a little bit better. Bill doesn't
- 9:15Speaker 1: think that way. You know, he doesn't think that way.
- 9:19Speaker 2: No, I mean, I'm sure same conversations like so, what's
- 9:21Speaker 2: your schedule tomorrow? Just I'm waiting.
- 9:23Speaker 11: I don't know.
- 9:23Speaker 2: It's seven o'clock, what like tomorrow?
- 9:25Speaker 1: What are you doing?
- 9:26Speaker 7: I don't know?
- 9:26Speaker 5: And I think that stuff is important, And we talked
- 9:29Speaker 5: about that a little bit in the off season when
- 9:30Speaker 5: those reports came out about the player surveys and whatnot.
- 9:34Speaker 5: Then the Patriots didn't farewell and some of those kinds
- 9:36Speaker 5: of things that Fred's talking about. But I look at
- 9:39Speaker 5: it more just pure football with what we're talking, Like
- 9:43Speaker 5: if you're Kyle Duggar or Josh Uche or you know
- 9:46Speaker 5: someone like you, you're grinding through and you're thinking about,
- 9:50Speaker 5: you know, as this season's going on, I'm gonna be
- 9:51Speaker 5: a free They're not gonna resign me like you're thinking,
- 9:54Speaker 5: like Ted carrass did absolutely everything that you could possibly want,
- 9:58Speaker 5: and a guy he wasn't costing a lot of money,
- 10:00Speaker 5: wasn't asking for a lot of money, and they still
- 10:02Speaker 5: let him go over.
- 10:03Speaker 1: A million dollars.
- 10:04Speaker 5: They low balled them over a million bucks. I mean, so, like,
- 10:08Speaker 5: what kind of message does that send? And I'm not
- 10:10Speaker 5: telling you that every guy says, well, forget it. I
- 10:13Speaker 5: don't think that that happens. These guys are going to
- 10:15Speaker 5: be free agents. They want to be as marketable as
- 10:17Speaker 5: they can when they hit the open market. I just
- 10:21Speaker 5: think it's a bad message that it gets sent. And
- 10:23Speaker 5: I'm not surprised to hear even the guy like Trent Brown,
- 10:26Speaker 5: who sort of seems like he's not always on the
- 10:28Speaker 5: on the program, even he is saying like they had
- 10:32Speaker 5: these two guys and they created problems. Like Evan said,
- 10:34Speaker 5: it's like you've smashed another hole in the side of
- 10:37Speaker 5: the boat for no reason.
- 10:38Speaker 1: And think about it. You know, if Carris was still here, yes,
- 10:41Speaker 1: he'd probably be making more money than cole Strange. But
- 10:45Speaker 1: in terms of the asset that you had to use
- 10:47Speaker 1: to get cole Strange, right, that's more that's more valuable
- 10:51Speaker 1: than what you would be paying Ted Carris right now.
- 10:54Speaker 9: Right, it's a domino effect because now the first round
- 10:56Speaker 9: pick is used on col Strange instead of it being
- 10:59Speaker 9: used on Trent McDuffie. And if it's used on Trying McDuffie,
- 11:01Speaker 9: then you don't have to draft Christian Gonzales and like
- 11:04Speaker 9: you know, so on and so forth, and that's how
- 11:06Speaker 9: you could create these holes. Can we go back to
- 11:08Speaker 9: the game for a second though, Sure I have a
- 11:11Speaker 9: little thought on the game.
- 11:12Speaker 1: Yeah, think away.
- 11:14Speaker 9: Are we sure they wanted to win on Sunday?
- 11:20Speaker 1: I mean when you say we, who do you include
- 11:24Speaker 1: in that we?
- 11:27Speaker 5: The five of us?
- 11:28Speaker 9: Are we sure that the Patriots? We think the Patriots
- 11:33Speaker 9: wanted to win.
- 11:33Speaker 1: Sure there's a silver lining and losing, there's no doubt.
- 11:36Speaker 1: But I wanted to win because I wanted to beat
- 11:39Speaker 1: the Jets.
- 11:40Speaker 5: But do you think they did? Do you think there
- 11:41Speaker 5: was any potential for a tank.
- 11:45Speaker 1: At the player level? No, at you know, at the
- 11:49Speaker 1: coaching level. I wonder because like, what would they care
- 11:54Speaker 1: about the future if they think they're not part of it.
- 11:56Speaker 5: Yeah, I don't think that they. I thought they tried
- 11:58Speaker 5: to win, and I think that they try to I
- 12:01Speaker 5: think they tried to move the ball and throw it
- 12:03Speaker 5: downfield at times, and.
- 12:06Speaker 9: With that on offense, and I'm not saying that they
- 12:08Speaker 9: necessarily intentionally tanked, but defensively that was like a preseason
- 12:13Speaker 9: game plan that they put out there defensively, and Devon
- 12:17Speaker 9: Gotcha after the.
- 12:18Speaker 1: Game thinking to do with that in terms of like
- 12:20Speaker 1: how they're like structurally aligning and how they're playing the
- 12:23Speaker 1: run game.
- 12:24Speaker 9: I don't know how the weather would if.
- 12:26Speaker 1: You tell me that there was some guys making business
- 12:28Speaker 1: decisions out there.
- 12:29Speaker 9: When it don't, I don't even know.
- 12:31Speaker 1: I would say there might have been.
- 12:33Speaker 9: Yeah, I just look at the way that they game
- 12:36Speaker 9: planned and the way that they the lack of adjustments
- 12:39Speaker 9: in game to what the Jets were doing offensively in
- 12:42Speaker 9: the run game. Devon Gotcha told me after the game
- 12:45Speaker 9: that he felt like they got out coached, just flat
- 12:47Speaker 9: out said that they got out coached and they were
- 12:50Speaker 9: running the same outside zone play over and over and
- 12:52Speaker 9: over again, and they were running it into the same
- 12:55Speaker 9: fronts with the same fits and they had no adjustments whatsoever.
- 12:58Speaker 9: Does that sound like Bill Belichick coach defense to any
- 13:01Speaker 9: of you, Like, I mean yeah, and I just I
- 13:06Speaker 9: look at their game plan defensively, I wouldn't say maybe
- 13:09Speaker 9: preseasons going a little too far. Maybe more like September
- 13:12Speaker 9: extension of the preseason game plan where it's like base fronts,
- 13:16Speaker 9: bass blitzing package, base coverage. We're not doing anything exotic.
- 13:21Speaker 9: There's no wrinkles to the game plan whatsoever. Like you're
- 13:25Speaker 9: in a snowstorm against the Jets and you're putting seven
- 13:28Speaker 9: guys in the box, Like you, what are you worried
- 13:30Speaker 9: about them throw you have split safety? Like what are
- 13:32Speaker 9: you worried about them going over the top on you?
- 13:35Speaker 9: For you're worried about Trevors go out in a blizzard.
- 13:39Speaker 1: If what you're saying is true, it would have to
- 13:41Speaker 1: come from Bill in terms of, hey, we're just gonna
- 13:43Speaker 1: be vanilla, and why would he do that?
- 13:46Speaker 9: Like what I don't know, Yeah, I don't know. All
- 13:49Speaker 9: I know is is that they ran the same play
- 13:52Speaker 9: and ran for two hundred yards on the same play
- 13:54Speaker 9: over and over.
- 13:55Speaker 5: I mean, I that's a lot of good stuff there.
- 13:58Speaker 5: I just would look at it as like maybe he
- 14:00Speaker 5: looked at it and said, we can just line up
- 14:03Speaker 5: and be very safe here and very vanilla. There's no
- 14:04Speaker 5: way they're gonna score any points. And I think he
- 14:06Speaker 5: was right. They weren't gonna score any points doing that.
- 14:09Speaker 5: They got the points, let's face at the game. You know,
- 14:12Speaker 5: the game was over when they when they scored the touchdown.
- 14:16Speaker 5: Otherwise you're right there, you know they made They did
- 14:19Speaker 5: throw one ball over the top and set up one
- 14:21Speaker 5: of the field goals, and the other field goal was
- 14:22Speaker 5: set up by a thirty yard punt that gave him
- 14:24Speaker 5: the ball and field goal range. Yeah, you know, so
- 14:27Speaker 5: like it's not like they for all the yards that
- 14:31Speaker 5: they piled up, it's not like they really threatened to
- 14:33Speaker 5: score at all. And I think that Bill probably also
- 14:35Speaker 5: looked at it and sai, Yeah, they're gonna kick a lot
- 14:37Speaker 5: of field goals and you're gonna have a hard time
- 14:39Speaker 5: making them. And to Zerlin's credit, he made them made
- 14:42Speaker 5: three out of four. Yeah, I agree with you, do
- 14:44Speaker 5: you know what I mean, Like, I get what you're saying,
- 14:46Speaker 5: and I certainly respect what Gotcha had to say to you. Yeah,
- 14:50Speaker 5: but I wonder if that's what Bill thought was the
- 14:52Speaker 5: best way to win the game, and all.
- 14:53Speaker 1: The Patriots had to do was score a couple of touchdowns,
- 14:55Speaker 1: and you're you're probably gonna win the game, you know,
- 14:58Speaker 1: because it would change the whole dynamic.
- 14:59Speaker 5: Off Defensively, they ran, you know, they're trying to move
- 15:02Speaker 5: the ball.
- 15:03Speaker 9: They ran you know, they went for it on fourth down,
- 15:04Speaker 9: as Paul said, they ran a trick play, you know,
- 15:07Speaker 9: try to run a double pass to get a ball
- 15:08Speaker 9: down the field. But in general, defensively, like they the
- 15:13Speaker 9: drive before the fifty yard touchdown, the Jets ran the
- 15:16Speaker 9: same exact play and gain eight yards on the same
- 15:19Speaker 9: play and then ran it again on the fifty yard touchdown,
- 15:21Speaker 9: and the Patriots just tried to play it the same
- 15:23Speaker 9: exact way, you know. It just it's very unpatriot like
- 15:26Speaker 9: to me to see them come out in such a
- 15:29Speaker 9: vanilla look defensively, especially when you know that really the
- 15:33Speaker 9: only way you're losing the game is that brist Hall
- 15:35Speaker 9: goes off.
- 15:36Speaker 5: Yeah, and I would say that on that last drive,
- 15:38Speaker 5: it's nine to three, you turn the ball back over
- 15:41Speaker 5: on the second interception, like you gotta just put ten
- 15:45Speaker 5: guys in the box. They're not gonna throw it right,
- 15:46Speaker 5: They're just gonna try to run the clock out and
- 15:48Speaker 5: get a first down and then to give up a
- 15:50Speaker 5: long touchdown run on that. Yeah. Maybe at that point
- 15:54Speaker 5: Bill said lose it anyway.
- 15:57Speaker 9: I don't know. I just don't that didn't Maybe it's
- 15:59Speaker 9: not take thing is the wrong word for it. I
- 16:01Speaker 9: just look at the way that they played on defensively
- 16:03Speaker 9: and said they weren't really as apathetic as into it
- 16:08Speaker 9: as they normally are.
- 16:09Speaker 5: So I have a guy who emails me all the time,
- 16:11Speaker 5: and I don't know exactly who he is. It's not
- 16:13Speaker 5: the email that it comes from is not his real name,
- 16:16Speaker 5: so I don't know exactly who it is, but he
- 16:20Speaker 5: sends me these detailed things every week down the stretch,
- 16:24Speaker 5: you know, chapter and verse. Why he thinks they're tanking
- 16:26Speaker 5: and he thinks Bill's in on it, because otherwise why
- 16:29Speaker 5: would Bill be doing it? Like Bill knows he's back
- 16:32Speaker 5: and they're tanking. And they're doing this, they're doing that,
- 16:35Speaker 5: they're doing the other thing, and it doesn't make any Now.
- 16:38Speaker 5: I don't agree with it. I don't think. I think
- 16:40Speaker 5: some of the things that he says are sort of
- 16:42Speaker 5: evidence of tanking. I don't look at the same way.
- 16:45Speaker 5: You know, who knows doesn't mean I'm right. Maybe this
- 16:48Speaker 5: guy has had it all along.
- 16:49Speaker 2: I think the weather MUDDI did a little bit too,
- 16:51Speaker 2: like just enough to be like, what the hell's going
- 16:53Speaker 2: on down there? And it's like that little factor that
- 16:55Speaker 2: you can't really quite well. The other thing, too, is.
- 16:57Speaker 5: Like, did anybody possibly envision the Jets playing a clean game?
- 17:01Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 17:02Speaker 5: Their only turnover was when the moron tried to lateral
- 17:05Speaker 5: an interception return.
- 17:06Speaker 1: And when that happened, all right, here we go.
- 17:08Speaker 9: Yeah. You just look at the Buffalo game against Josh Allen,
- 17:12Speaker 9: and they they threw everything they had at Josh Allen.
- 17:15Speaker 9: You know, they were running all sorts of crazy stuff
- 17:17Speaker 9: against Josh Allen. And they come into this game and
- 17:20Speaker 9: they're running their base three four with you know, a
- 17:23Speaker 9: light neutral boxes and they're only it's a snowstorm and
- 17:26Speaker 9: the only way that the Jets are going to move
- 17:28Speaker 9: the ball is if Breeshall runs for two hundred yards,
- 17:30Speaker 9: that that was the only way they were going to score.
- 17:33Speaker 9: And I just I looked at it and was like,
- 17:35Speaker 9: this is just not a Bill Belichick, Girod Mayo, Steve Belichick,
- 17:41Speaker 9: like we're gonna we have this great game plan. Like
- 17:43Speaker 9: after the Bills game, all the defensive players are sitting
- 17:46Speaker 9: there saying, you know, our coaches had us really prepared
- 17:48Speaker 9: for this game, liked Mayo gets shout outs from Dietrich
- 17:52Speaker 9: Wise at the podium and things like that, and in
- 17:54Speaker 9: this game, I just this was like, this was not
- 17:58Speaker 9: this is your campaign to bring Bill Becker to bring
- 18:02Speaker 9: or have Girod be the head coach. I would not
- 18:04Speaker 9: show him this film. Okay, That's all I got.
- 18:08Speaker 1: Interesting thing any other thoughts on the game at all?
- 18:11Speaker 4: Or I just like went in expecting, like okay, like
- 18:14Speaker 4: the Jets' best player were expecting them to run the
- 18:17Speaker 4: ball a lot, and the Patriots defense has been so
- 18:19Speaker 4: stout against the run that I really didn't have much
- 18:21Speaker 4: fear right that they weren't going to be able to
- 18:24Speaker 4: stop him. Yeah, So I guess it was just I
- 18:27Speaker 4: don't know, kind of to Evan's point, it kind of
- 18:28Speaker 4: made you think like were they were they really trying
- 18:30Speaker 4: because they've just been so good against it, and to
- 18:33Speaker 4: force the Jets to throw the ball was going to
- 18:35Speaker 4: be tough obviously in that situation. And I don't know,
- 18:38Speaker 4: it was weird.
- 18:38Speaker 9: Yeah, to not just like have eight nine guys in
- 18:42Speaker 9: the box, like to have split safety on the fifty
- 18:45Speaker 9: yard touchdown run and then Jabrill Peppers has to come
- 18:47Speaker 9: screaming up to try to fit it, and now you're
- 18:50Speaker 9: in the snow, so he loses his footing and it
- 18:53Speaker 9: just like all those types of things, like I'm just like, well,
- 18:55Speaker 9: how is this the plan? Like you really thought Trevor
- 18:57Speaker 9: Simeon was gonna go, you know, Tom Brady nine and
- 19:00Speaker 9: like bombs away in the snow, like there's no chance,
- 19:03Speaker 9: there's no way.
- 19:04Speaker 4: I definitely want to expect him like, oh, they're going
- 19:05Speaker 4: to try to just run it, but that's dumb to
- 19:07Speaker 4: do against the Patriots defense who's been so good against
- 19:10Speaker 4: the run.
- 19:10Speaker 9: So I don't know it.
- 19:12Speaker 1: As a result, they have the third pick. Now there
- 19:14Speaker 1: you go, and I don't think it's going to be
- 19:17Speaker 1: Michael Pennox.
- 19:20Speaker 2: I mean, that's what's just funny about Michael Pennock the process.
- 19:23Speaker 2: I know it's it's but it's like, you know, last
- 19:25Speaker 2: week after everyone was, oh, he's gonna be one of
- 19:28Speaker 2: the top ten, and now he's like, like, it's just
- 19:30Speaker 2: think the rollers.
- 19:31Speaker 5: Am I the only one that just like looks at
- 19:33Speaker 5: that stuff and saysn't it's not really like it doesn't
- 19:36Speaker 5: really get wildly fluctuated. But based on the last.
- 19:39Speaker 2: Two games, well it doesn't fans, right, No, no, but
- 19:43Speaker 2: I don't not the scout, you know what I think
- 19:44Speaker 2: of that?
- 19:46Speaker 9: I actually disagree because the college football Playoff is the
- 19:50Speaker 9: best of the best. So this is the closest thing
- 19:52Speaker 9: competition wise that he's going to get to playing NFL
- 19:55Speaker 9: competition before he gets to the NFL.
- 19:57Speaker 11: No.
- 19:57Speaker 1: True, you wanted to see what he was going to
- 19:59Speaker 1: do against the real a good team with a good defense.
- 20:02Speaker 1: But then again, I mean he got his butt kick.
- 20:05Speaker 1: You know, I just look at it as I was
- 20:08Speaker 1: an honest evaluation.
- 20:09Speaker 5: Maybe I'm being incredibly naive, but I think a hell
- 20:13Speaker 5: of a lot more of these guys in the NFL
- 20:15Speaker 5: than to think, well, across him, you know.
- 20:18Speaker 1: We'll see if you can get him in that round.
- 20:21Speaker 5: I don't think he puddled. I think you guys are right.
- 20:24Speaker 5: I think that he was under a lot of pressure
- 20:26Speaker 5: all night. It was it was a little loss. He missed.
- 20:29Speaker 5: The fourth down throw that he missed early in the
- 20:31Speaker 5: game was huge. Yeah, you know, he had that. They
- 20:34Speaker 5: dial up a play and he's wide open and he
- 20:36Speaker 5: overthrown through it to the outside. But the thing that
- 20:42Speaker 5: makes these difficulties you don't know where he's rated. You
- 20:45Speaker 5: don't like like evn't made the point a couple of
- 20:47Speaker 5: weeks ago of it takes everybody in the media a
- 20:51Speaker 5: little while to catch up to where the league is
- 20:53Speaker 5: on where everybody's rated to go. So I don't know.
- 20:56Speaker 5: For all I know the league had him going number
- 20:59Speaker 5: seven over you know, and everybody else thinks he's like
- 21:03Speaker 5: a borderline first round pick. I don't know where the
- 21:07Speaker 5: league has him. If the league, I just can't imagine that. Like,
- 21:11Speaker 5: to me, it would have had to have been something
- 21:13Speaker 5: way different that you saw than that that was just
- 21:18Speaker 5: like he didn't play great.
- 21:19Speaker 9: Yeah, I think the the general consensus from like the
- 21:23Speaker 9: reporting that's been out there on it is that the
- 21:25Speaker 9: league was definitely lower on him than the media and
- 21:28Speaker 9: the public. With shocker like it's usually the case. And
- 21:31Speaker 9: I think he was viewed as a guy that had
- 21:33Speaker 9: some first round traits but was probably more of like
- 21:37Speaker 9: an early second round prospect because of the injuries and
- 21:40Speaker 9: because of the history that he has there yea. And
- 21:42Speaker 9: I think this game the awards that did exist on
- 21:45Speaker 9: film with him, you know, inability to evade pressure, you know,
- 21:49Speaker 9: not not the most mobile guy in the pocket, and
- 21:52Speaker 9: then also just struggling to throw to the intermediate part
- 21:55Speaker 9: of the field, Like he's the bigger problem. Biggest problem
- 21:58Speaker 9: I see with him is that he only threw rows fastballs.
- 22:01Speaker 9: Like the ball comes out and it's nine nine miles
- 22:03Speaker 9: an hour. Whether it's a five yard throw or it's
- 22:06Speaker 9: a fifty yard throw, He's throwing the ball the same way.
- 22:08Speaker 9: And in this game, Michigan really forced him to like
- 22:11Speaker 9: layer throws in there into the middle of the field,
- 22:13Speaker 9: and he just doesn't really have a great feel for
- 22:16Speaker 9: that part of his game. And NFL throws like those
- 22:19Speaker 9: are how you move the ball in the league.
- 22:21Speaker 5: I would just like to think that the NFL had
- 22:23Speaker 5: that evaluation, right, do you know what I mean? Like
- 22:26Speaker 5: not just Devin, Like no, no, no, I'm saying that's fair
- 22:30Speaker 5: because he Uh, because listen, we've talked last week. You know,
- 22:34Speaker 5: Eldrid has been talking about how well he runs, and
- 22:36Speaker 5: I keep saying he clearly is not a great runner,
- 22:39Speaker 5: Like you don't have these numbers if you're a great runner.
- 22:43Speaker 5: I would argue that McCarthy's a better runner than Pennix.
- 22:46Speaker 1: Carli actually looked really fast last night.
- 22:48Speaker 5: He stinks.
- 22:49Speaker 1: I don't know. I think he helped himself a little bit.
- 22:51Speaker 5: He's he did really good job of handing the ball off.
- 22:54Speaker 4: Yeah, he's a guy like who just because you win
- 22:57Speaker 4: a national championship doesn't mean you need to go top ten.
- 22:59Speaker 1: I know.
- 23:00Speaker 5: Plus, I think Tannonbomb gave him the kiss of death
- 23:02Speaker 5: I saw today. This is the rock solid traffic should
- 23:05Speaker 5: be middle of the first round. It's all I need
- 23:07Speaker 5: to It's all I need to hear. It's all I
- 23:09Speaker 5: need to hear.
- 23:09Speaker 1: I'm out.
- 23:10Speaker 5: I'm out on him because Tannon Bomb's low for life.
- 23:13Speaker 9: There's a lot of old school scouts like a Tanner
- 23:16Speaker 9: Bomb on Twitter.
- 23:17Speaker 5: That's the way quarterbacks should be played, Evan.
- 23:19Speaker 9: That that talk about Uh, McCarthy's like he's a winner
- 23:24Speaker 9: and he's tough and he's smart, and you know all
- 23:26Speaker 9: those types of things, and uh, the league is wised
- 23:30Speaker 9: up on a lot of that stuff, I feel like,
- 23:32Speaker 9: and now has gotten more, Yeah, gotten more towards the
- 23:36Speaker 9: trade side of things versus like let's get the smart
- 23:40Speaker 9: winner quarterback, you know like that that.
- 23:42Speaker 5: I guess the whole thing, And I know the fans
- 23:45Speaker 5: we're all gonna wildly overreact because that's it's fun. That's
- 23:48Speaker 5: what we do, you know. But I would like to
- 23:51Speaker 5: think that the NFL had an idea of Michael Pennock's
- 23:54Speaker 5: skill set before the Texas game and before the Michigan game,
- 23:59Speaker 5: and I totally agree that those are wildly different performances.
- 24:03Speaker 5: I just feel like I don't think that they changed
- 24:07Speaker 5: their mind as drastically as we do.
- 24:08Speaker 1: Who's better JJ McCarthy or Stetson Bennett.
- 24:13Speaker 9: McCarthy, Yeah, I think JJ McCarthy. But yeah with Daniel
- 24:17Speaker 9: with Pennix, his timing and his accuracy into the middle
- 24:21Speaker 9: of the field is was the big knock, along with
- 24:24Speaker 9: the ability under pressure to escape pressure and the mobility
- 24:28Speaker 9: and that sort of thing, And that's exactly what came
- 24:30Speaker 9: out last night against Michigan. So I think that that's
- 24:32Speaker 9: what's the most alarming, is like, were these knocks just
- 24:36Speaker 9: you know, were they yellow flags.
- 24:38Speaker 5: Or were they red flags?
- 24:39Speaker 9: In mishicking right in Michigan makes it look like those
- 24:42Speaker 9: were Those are real concerns this projection.
- 24:45Speaker 5: He was sacked like twelve times all year. Yeah, like
- 24:48Speaker 5: that that to me is a concern, ye like, because
- 24:50Speaker 5: clearly he didn't have to deal with that very often.
- 24:54Speaker 5: You know, it was only sacked once last night. But
- 24:58Speaker 5: he clearly is not under the same amount of duress
- 25:01Speaker 5: that a lot of other guys are.
- 25:03Speaker 9: To be fair, just every quarterback in this class has
- 25:06Speaker 9: this game. You know, Jayden Daniels had Florida State, Drake
- 25:09Speaker 9: May had NZ State, Caleb Williams had Notre Dame. They
- 25:12Speaker 9: were all under siege, ye with a ton of pressure,
- 25:14Speaker 9: and they all stunk.
- 25:15Speaker 1: Like they're all not that good.
- 25:17Speaker 5: That's always a possibility.
- 25:18Speaker 9: But every quarter like, every quarterback has a mulligan. It
- 25:21Speaker 9: just so happens that his was in the National Championship game.
- 25:23Speaker 5: I still like Panics a lot, but he did not
- 25:26Speaker 5: play well last night. I can't. That's kind of not
- 25:28Speaker 5: going to pretend that what I saw didn't happen.
- 25:30Speaker 2: That's how I'm kind of I feel like I've changed
- 25:32Speaker 2: a little bit with my draft approach, and right now
- 25:34Speaker 2: I feel like one or two of these quarterbacks is
- 25:36Speaker 2: going to be good. One or two of them, that's it.
- 25:38Speaker 1: Yeah, really, I don't know what two. It's very rare
- 25:43Speaker 1: that you have five or six guys and they're all good.
- 25:46Speaker 1: That's rare.
- 25:46Speaker 5: Oh yeah, that almost never happens.
- 25:48Speaker 1: Yeah, it's more like one or two.
- 25:50Speaker 2: Yeah, you know, I mean top to bottom, like one
- 25:53Speaker 2: or two.
- 25:53Speaker 1: Yeah, I don't know. All right, eight five to five
- 25:56Speaker 1: pasts five hundred is the ACE ticket hot line, web
- 25:58Speaker 1: radio at pagris dot com is the email address? What
- 26:01Speaker 1: else we got? The coach thing, we got, the Jets game,
- 26:04Speaker 1: we got the National championship, and the draft choice for
- 26:07Speaker 1: the Patriots coming up? What else opponents we got?
- 26:11Speaker 2: We know where we are going back to Chicago, get
- 26:14Speaker 2: to see them. Yeah, and then you know, a couple
- 26:17Speaker 2: of reports of you know, Puoli and McDaniels like those
- 26:20Speaker 2: kind of things being kicked around.
- 26:21Speaker 1: That was kind of weird, Like all of a sudden,
- 26:23Speaker 1: it's like Bill does his press conference and says, yeah,
- 26:26Speaker 1: I'd be willing to do whatever is in the best
- 26:29Speaker 1: interests of the team and all all of a sudden,
- 26:31Speaker 1: Now all these stories about Josh McDaniel's coming back and
- 26:34Speaker 1: Poli coming back, get the band together.
- 26:37Speaker 5: You know, I just want to say thank you, Fred Kirsh.
- 26:39Speaker 5: But just the way you just said that, he says,
- 26:42Speaker 5: I'd be willing to do what's in the best interests
- 26:44Speaker 5: of the team, which is what he said, right. The
- 26:47Speaker 5: only thing that was added to that that you just
- 26:49Speaker 5: paraphrased was if we collectively decide it's in the best
- 26:52Speaker 5: interest in the team. But everybody has said, well, Bill
- 26:56Speaker 5: is he's willing to still is willing to. He conceded,
- 26:58Speaker 5: he's willing to to to relinquish that. That's not what
- 27:02Speaker 5: he said. It's not what he said. And I think
- 27:06Speaker 5: that a lot of people have taken it that way
- 27:07Speaker 5: like this was his he's begging, he's begging to stay.
- 27:11Speaker 9: Like no, he said that he'd be willing to do
- 27:14Speaker 9: collectively what's in the best interesting.
- 27:16Speaker 1: I think what he is doing is making it tough.
- 27:19Speaker 1: Correct leverage play for sure. That was a complete leverage play.
- 27:23Speaker 1: He never mentions his contract. He mentions that he was
- 27:25Speaker 1: under contract, that he'd be willing to do whatever. You know,
- 27:29Speaker 1: I'm a good employee, I'm willing to be here. I'm
- 27:32Speaker 1: not disgruntled. So in other words, if you want to
- 27:35Speaker 1: get rid of me, you gotta fire me, and that narrative,
- 27:40Speaker 1: it'll become one of the Felger facts if that sticks.
- 27:42Speaker 2: And then if Bill leaves and he'll say, well, I
- 27:44Speaker 2: mean he's he was willing to step down. They didn't
- 27:47Speaker 2: do that though, like he.
- 27:48Speaker 5: Said, I'm willing to yesterday. You know he was.
- 27:51Speaker 2: I didn't mean specifically.
- 27:53Speaker 5: Our boss was was under fire, Like what are we
- 27:56Speaker 5: waiting for? That's just like one day, Mike Jesus.
- 27:59Speaker 1: That's what I mean.
- 27:59Speaker 2: That's what I mean. It's you know, it's just all
- 28:01Speaker 2: these things that all of a sudden get construed into
- 28:03Speaker 2: being a fact, and now there become examples when you're like,
- 28:05Speaker 2: I don't even know if that's true. And I certainly
- 28:07Speaker 2: agree one hundred percent with what Paul said, so leverage
- 28:09Speaker 2: what he was saying was what he was saying. He
- 28:11Speaker 2: wasn't voluntarily saying if they want me to step down,
- 28:14Speaker 2: no problem, I'll just coach the team.
- 28:15Speaker 5: Earlier in the show, Fred also touched on something else
- 28:19Speaker 5: that Bill said yesterday that didn't get really a lot
- 28:22Speaker 5: of play, and that was that you know, we have
- 28:24Speaker 5: a lot of people that are involved in these decisions
- 28:26Speaker 5: and someone has to be the final say. And that's
- 28:29Speaker 5: been nice to me. That's me. So he's telling you
- 28:32Speaker 5: that I have final say, like I don't know, Like
- 28:37Speaker 5: people continue to say, well, you know, Robert Kraft made
- 28:40Speaker 5: him do this and this guy made him do that.
- 28:42Speaker 5: And he's telling you that we have a lot of
- 28:45Speaker 5: people that weigh in on a lot of these decisions
- 28:47Speaker 5: and I am the one who has the final say,
- 28:50Speaker 5: and people still don't listen to it.
- 28:52Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 28:52Speaker 2: Do you think there was anything more about in McDaniel's
- 28:54Speaker 2: being here this weekend other than coming to a game
- 28:57Speaker 2: in a Blizzard to say goodbye to Matthew Slater.
- 28:59Speaker 1: I wouldn't rule it out. I don't know. I mean, like,
- 29:02Speaker 1: he's around, he needs something to do, right, and he's
- 29:05Speaker 1: getting paid, so.
- 29:07Speaker 5: He lives here, right?
- 29:08Speaker 2: Does he still live here?
- 29:09Speaker 1: Does he still live here? Yeah? Okay, so it was
- 29:11Speaker 1: a little ride down the roads.
- 29:12Speaker 5: Yeah, I think it was about both Slater and Bill.
- 29:16Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 29:16Speaker 5: I think he recognized that it was quite possibly Bill's
- 29:19Speaker 5: last game too. But yeah, Slater's probably the bigger thing.
- 29:24Speaker 5: Where was he in the at the game? Do you know,
- 29:26Speaker 5: I don't know.
- 29:26Speaker 2: Somebody said I think he went through the VIP gate,
- 29:28Speaker 2: whatever that gate is. I'm not sure what's to which
- 29:31Speaker 2: gate they were firmed.
- 29:31Speaker 5: Do you know where he watched firm Fred, I have
- 29:33Speaker 5: no idea.
- 29:34Speaker 2: Up in the three hundreds of Probably was he in
- 29:37Speaker 2: the stands lays in a suite?
- 29:38Speaker 5: I can't imagine, because I can't I know that raider money.
- 29:43Speaker 5: Evidently Will was down, you know, in the middle of
- 29:45Speaker 5: one of the one hundred. Oh of course he should.
- 29:47Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 29:48Speaker 5: They never made it up to myself, I was gonna.
- 29:50Speaker 1: Say, because I would imagine Bill has a suite, right Bill, Oh, yes,
- 29:55Speaker 1: so he's probably in that one.
- 29:57Speaker 2: Maybe, I don't know. I mean Evan, Evan brought it up.
- 30:01Speaker 2: It's I mean, it's really hard. I mean, look, nobody really,
- 30:03Speaker 2: I think, is going to advocate for this. But it's
- 30:05Speaker 2: really hard to see Josh mcdamia's and Bill O'Brien on
- 30:07Speaker 2: the same staff trying to make that work like that
- 30:09Speaker 2: just seems that seems impossible to me. Yeah, not that
- 30:13Speaker 2: I would ever advocate for it, but something would have
- 30:15Speaker 2: to give there. I don't have to go unless Josh,
- 30:18Speaker 2: like you know, he's getting paid he doesn't care, and
- 30:20Speaker 2: he's just the quarterbacks coach.
- 30:22Speaker 9: O'Brien's the quarterbacks coach.
- 30:24Speaker 1: I know, But O'Brien could be a coordinator.
- 30:26Speaker 9: And yeah, I mean I just think that there's no
- 30:29Speaker 9: like the senior football advisor role is. But then like
- 30:32Speaker 9: Joe Judge is technically the assistant head coach, so isn't
- 30:34Speaker 9: that kind of the same thing. And I just think
- 30:37Speaker 9: there's a lot of cooks in that kitchen, and like,
- 30:38Speaker 9: who who's the young quarterback listening to? You know once?
- 30:42Speaker 9: And then if he struggled for the first month, and
- 30:44Speaker 9: it's going to be why don't we have McDaniel's call plays,
- 30:46Speaker 9: you know, Like it's just I think.
- 30:48Speaker 1: We should have a staff of all former head coaches,
- 30:51Speaker 1: big bat, Patricia, you know, we can have.
- 30:56Speaker 9: Judge on the surface though, like it them, the plan
- 31:01Speaker 9: being we're gonna beef up personnel, We're going to beef
- 31:04Speaker 9: up the coaching staff. We're going to bring back guys
- 31:05Speaker 9: with experience that know what they're doing. That that's probably
- 31:08Speaker 9: like I would imagine that that's probably his pitch, Bill's pitch,
- 31:12Speaker 9: you know, whether it's a guy like Paoli McDaniels, you know,
- 31:15Speaker 9: whoever are going to bring the band back together, and
- 31:18Speaker 9: we're gonna get the coaching staff back in order, and
- 31:20Speaker 9: we're not going to rely on you know, these kids
- 31:22Speaker 9: that that haven't been doing it for very long, and
- 31:24Speaker 9: we're gonna get you know, veterans back in the room
- 31:26Speaker 9: and everything's gonna be fine.
- 31:28Speaker 5: Along those lines, something that Tomorrow was talking about last
- 31:30Speaker 5: week about you know, sort of having some urgency to
- 31:33Speaker 5: make these moves. I saw today common Brisillo is going
- 31:37Speaker 5: to be interviewing for the offensive line job for the Giants.
- 31:41Speaker 5: Because he's part of the staff with the Raiders. He's
- 31:43Speaker 5: kind of in limbo. You know, they don't know exactly
- 31:45Speaker 5: what they're gonna do if they're going to retain. Oh,
- 31:48Speaker 5: we have news.
- 31:49Speaker 9: It's not it's not our breaking news. Mike Rabel fired
- 31:54Speaker 9: as the Titans.
- 31:56Speaker 1: That's breaking news.
- 31:58Speaker 5: Breaks we break it. We wait, wow, someone else to
- 32:01Speaker 5: say it and then let you know, that's big news.
- 32:04Speaker 5: That is big news.
- 32:05Speaker 1: I thought he'd go on his terms, but anyway, go ahead.
- 32:08Speaker 4: Yeah, I think just going off with the Paul just said,
- 32:10Speaker 4: I think like watching watching the Commanders, like request all
- 32:13Speaker 4: these interviews so fast, it's like you don't want to
- 32:15Speaker 4: wait until Friday, if you if you are going to
- 32:17Speaker 4: do it to get rid of Bill, and then all
- 32:19Speaker 4: the interviews have already happened and you're.
- 32:21Speaker 1: Still and I think unless unless the persons that you
- 32:24Speaker 1: have tagged are still in the playoffs.
- 32:28Speaker 9: Right, Well, you can't have an interview yet until it's
- 32:32Speaker 9: the division round.
- 32:33Speaker 5: Right. You usually go with the division round. You can't
- 32:35Speaker 5: have an in person interview until the division round.
- 32:37Speaker 1: Right.
- 32:38Speaker 5: But my point is.
- 32:39Speaker 9: We cannot just gloss over this Rabel thing.
- 32:41Speaker 5: You can you can still do these kinds of things
- 32:44Speaker 5: that Tamara is talking about.
- 32:45Speaker 4: You can.
- 32:45Speaker 5: You can make requests and yeah and sort of get
- 32:48Speaker 5: your ducks in a room.
- 32:49Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 32:49Speaker 5: So now, Yeah, the Rable thing I think is huge.
- 32:51Speaker 4: That's wild.
- 32:52Speaker 1: It is huge.
- 32:53Speaker 9: Yeah, because I his candidacy here as Bill's successor was
- 32:58Speaker 9: always caveated with. They would have to trade for him.
- 33:01Speaker 9: Now they wouldn't even have to give up anything to
- 33:03Speaker 9: hire him.
- 33:03Speaker 1: What if it's a swap again, We've talked about it.
- 33:07Speaker 1: Bill has Tennessee roots. He was born in Tennessee.
- 33:10Speaker 5: Perfect of Bill, the same team, Yeah, it's the same
- 33:14Speaker 5: team he has.
- 33:15Speaker 1: He has a lot of roots in Tennessee, a lot
- 33:17Speaker 1: of connections in Tennessee. That wouldn't be the worst place
- 33:20Speaker 1: for him to go in his mind.
- 33:23Speaker 2: I think Rable's the favorite to land here right now.
- 33:26Speaker 4: But would you lose?
- 33:28Speaker 1: Yeah, I would screw this, I'm out of it.
- 33:30Speaker 2: I'd make I'd say, make the defensive coordinator, make him
- 33:33Speaker 2: the official defensive But does he want to be?
- 33:35Speaker 1: Would he do?
- 33:36Speaker 4: Or do you think he'll leave and go work somewhere
- 33:38Speaker 4: like the Giants? Who needs who need a defensive coordinator?
- 33:40Speaker 5: That's great, you can retain my services by making me
- 33:42Speaker 5: the janitor. But doesn't mean I'm gonna stay.
- 33:44Speaker 2: No, that's I mean, that's it's his choice. I mean
- 33:46Speaker 2: i'd be, I'd be.
- 33:47Speaker 5: I think I think you lose Mayo in that scenario. Now,
- 33:51Speaker 5: I'm not telling you that if you think that Rabel's better,
- 33:53Speaker 5: but I'm not telling you not to do it because
- 33:56Speaker 5: of that. But I think you lose Mayo if you.
- 33:59Speaker 5: I kind of would do this.
- 34:00Speaker 9: I think that he that Mayo would be open to
- 34:02Speaker 9: being the official by titled defensive art, I need.
- 34:06Speaker 5: To know a little bit more in terms of what
- 34:08Speaker 5: he was told.
- 34:10Speaker 9: That's fair. I mean, I guess he could feel burned,
- 34:12Speaker 9: but I just feel like at the same time, it's
- 34:15Speaker 9: kind of a big leap. We've talked about it for
- 34:17Speaker 9: him going to as a linebackers coach co defensive coordinator
- 34:21Speaker 9: under Bill Belichick, who's never called plays, has never done
- 34:24Speaker 9: it on his own, to now being a head coach
- 34:26Speaker 9: year football team. Now at least he has a title
- 34:29Speaker 9: to fall back on next year or two years from now,
- 34:32Speaker 9: and say, I am the defensive coordinator in New England,
- 34:35Speaker 9: I am running it and you know Rabel is more
- 34:37Speaker 9: of the CEO now and you know I'm doing it
- 34:39Speaker 9: this way.
- 34:39Speaker 1: If you bring in if you want, if you if
- 34:42Speaker 1: you start looking at Rabel, then the Rooney rule does
- 34:45Speaker 1: kick in and you have to interview other people. Yeah,
- 34:50Speaker 1: I think if you elevate Mayo, because I looked into this,
- 34:55Speaker 1: there's a succession clause that the Rooney rule can't get
- 35:00Speaker 1: in the way of, you know, internal succession.
- 35:03Speaker 5: If it's a minority, no, it doesn't matter. I don't think.
- 35:07Speaker 5: I think someone got in trouble for this.
- 35:09Speaker 1: Like no, if if the person and here's the caveat,
- 35:14Speaker 1: if the person had something written in their contract a
- 35:16Speaker 1: year ahead of time, the Rooney rule can't get in
- 35:20Speaker 1: the way of internal succession. It's not meant to like
- 35:24Speaker 1: impede or get in get in the way of continuity
- 35:28Speaker 1: on a team. So if the if the person in
- 35:31Speaker 1: question has something in their contract like if this happens,
- 35:34Speaker 1: you will be you know, then the Rooney rule gets
- 35:37Speaker 1: superseded if it's internal from what I understand.
- 35:42Speaker 5: So, how does everybody feel about Brabel?
- 35:44Speaker 9: Yeah, he's he's got to be the favorite.
- 35:47Speaker 12: If we're gonna get to I'm not if we're gonna
- 35:52Speaker 12: like I like my Rabel, but if we're gonna go outside,
- 35:56Speaker 12: I want an offensive guy.
- 36:00Speaker 2: Hire an offensive I hire a new offensive staff.
- 36:03Speaker 9: That would be my my thing with Rabel. I think
- 36:06Speaker 9: he's a good motivator. I think he's a good like
- 36:08Speaker 9: CEO head coach in that respect, and I would assume
- 36:12Speaker 9: that he would try to retain as much as the
- 36:13Speaker 9: defensive staff as possible to run the defense. What's your
- 36:16Speaker 9: pitch on offense? Because the Titans offense has not been
- 36:19Speaker 9: very good and it really even in like the Tannehill years,
- 36:23Speaker 9: like it was Derrick Henry in play action and like
- 36:25Speaker 9: that can't be. It wasn't sustainable.
- 36:27Speaker 1: And I need to know what are we going to
- 36:29Speaker 1: use this number three draft pick? On if we're going
- 36:31Speaker 1: to use it on a quarterback, I want a head
- 36:34Speaker 1: coach who is a quarterback whisperer, who who will grow
- 36:39Speaker 1: up with this guy, who they'll be together, hopefully for
- 36:43Speaker 1: the next decade.
- 36:44Speaker 5: That would be ideal. I just I love, love, love Rabel.
- 36:47Speaker 5: I do I love I love everything. I love everything
- 36:50Speaker 5: about him. I'm just looking at his track record and
- 36:52Speaker 5: I think, listen, if you're asking me, gun to my head,
- 36:56Speaker 5: Rabel Ormeo, I would I would say Rabel just because
- 36:59Speaker 5: of the experience. That's it. At least. I don't know
- 37:04Speaker 5: if Mayo is capable of putting together an offense. I
- 37:07Speaker 5: know Rabel can't. I've watched him for five plus years.
- 37:10Speaker 5: I know that they're gonna do exactly what Evan said.
- 37:13Speaker 5: They're gonna play it's Bill light, It's they're gonna try
- 37:16Speaker 5: to play defense. They're gonna try to keep the score down,
- 37:18Speaker 5: and they're gonna try to run the ball. And that
- 37:21Speaker 5: will get you some wins because he's a good coach
- 37:23Speaker 5: and you'll be able to what did they win six games?
- 37:26Speaker 5: I think they stink. He was able to win six
- 37:29Speaker 5: games like that'll get you some wins. I just don't
- 37:32Speaker 5: think it'll get you where you want to go. Like
- 37:34Speaker 5: I think they kind of took everybody by storm when
- 37:37Speaker 5: Tannehill had this incredible deal with the Devil in whatever
- 37:41Speaker 5: it was nineteen where he was out of his mind
- 37:44Speaker 5: down the stretch of that season. He took over like
- 37:46Speaker 5: halfway through that year and played the best football of
- 37:49Speaker 5: his career by far. Again, it's all depended on that quarterback,
- 37:55Speaker 5: and I don't think they have it. Yeah, I just
- 37:57Speaker 5: wanted to get to have the quarterback.
- 37:58Speaker 9: I wonder too with their roster decisions, like whose decision
- 38:03Speaker 9: was it to move on from AJ Brown and draft
- 38:05Speaker 9: Traylon Burks because that's.
- 38:07Speaker 1: That's that's the that's what people assume. Yeah, but he
- 38:13Speaker 1: lost the fight.
- 38:13Speaker 9: I would be asking Vrabel straight up like what why
- 38:16Speaker 9: why did you guys do that? Because in my mind,
- 38:19Speaker 9: like that's such a Patriots move, Like we're not going
- 38:22Speaker 9: to pay this proven guy, We're going to draft a
- 38:24Speaker 9: guy that's seventy five percent is good of him, that's
- 38:27Speaker 9: seventy five percent cheaper, right, and like that that's how
- 38:30Speaker 9: you get into this mess. Like the Tannehill season that
- 38:33Speaker 9: Paul is talking about, a lot of that was because
- 38:35Speaker 9: AJ Brown is really really good at football, and he
- 38:37Speaker 9: was just out there making plays, especially off play action
- 38:41Speaker 9: where he's just got all this room to run and maneuver,
- 38:43Speaker 9: and he was making plays on the.
- 38:44Speaker 5: Barrick Henry was you know that much younger, and you know,
- 38:47Speaker 5: just right.
- 38:49Speaker 1: The best the best argument that Vrabel would have is,
- 38:52Speaker 1: you know the Adams family. It's it's like and owners
- 38:55Speaker 1: love hearing that.
- 38:56Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah, he left.
- 39:00Speaker 2: I just want to make the pitch du well. I
- 39:03Speaker 2: mean he landed with Derrick Henry and he had the
- 39:05Speaker 2: best running back in the game. So I mean, are
- 39:07Speaker 2: we say, are we faulting him for building an offense
- 39:09Speaker 2: around that guy? As much as it echoes what they
- 39:11Speaker 2: do here, I mean they had some success with it.
- 39:13Speaker 2: They drafted AJ Brown. I mean that's something the Patriots
- 39:16Speaker 2: did not do. I hear what you guys are saying,
- 39:19Speaker 2: but I also would use you know, what would you
- 39:21Speaker 2: say is the most innovative offense in the NFL right now?
- 39:24Speaker 2: But who's running like the most unique offense in the NFL?
- 39:26Speaker 2: Kyle Baltimore. Well, I mean a lot of people run
- 39:28Speaker 2: the Shanahan offensiugh, right, I mean Baltimore. John Harball is
- 39:32Speaker 2: not an offensive guy, you know. I mean he showed
- 39:34Speaker 2: the foresight to change his offense and to accommodate to
- 39:36Speaker 2: the players. So I'm not saying I'm right, but I'm
- 39:38Speaker 2: just saying just because the guy's a defensive coach doesn't
- 39:40Speaker 2: put him in this bubble that.
- 39:44Speaker 5: Maybe how long? How long has Lamar Jackson been Baltimore's
- 39:47Speaker 5: quarterback since nineteen? Yeah, eighteen? I think it took him
- 39:51Speaker 5: all awful long time to do what he did this
- 39:53Speaker 5: year and hire real offensive coaches.
- 39:55Speaker 2: Well then you need with Greg Roman though, I mean
- 39:57Speaker 2: that was a few years ago.
- 39:58Speaker 5: But all they did was run the ball. This is
- 39:59Speaker 5: my my point, right, but like anybody can do that,
- 40:03Speaker 5: but it took him six years to say we need
- 40:06Speaker 5: to do something different with this personnel group, to figure
- 40:10Speaker 5: out a way to do it. I don't want to
- 40:11Speaker 5: wait that one.
- 40:12Speaker 9: And to your point, Paul Todd Monkins now interviewing for
- 40:15Speaker 9: head coaching jobs elsewhere, Greg Roman.
- 40:17Speaker 5: Was all right.
- 40:18Speaker 2: Point was not that they're going to develop he probably was.
- 40:21Speaker 2: It was not that they're going to develop a unique offense.
- 40:23Speaker 2: The point is that just because a coach isn't an
- 40:25Speaker 2: offensive coach doesn't mean that you can't have an innovative
- 40:27Speaker 2: offensive side of the ball that's been different. So look,
- 40:30Speaker 2: everybody's just gonn be pounding the table for Mike McDaniel's court.
- 40:34Speaker 2: And you know, get Wes Welker, you know, like, get
- 40:35Speaker 2: these young offensive coordinator guys who have been in the system.
- 40:39Speaker 2: That's what the flavor of the month is. That's what
- 40:40Speaker 2: everybody's going to say. I don't think it has to
- 40:42Speaker 2: be that and it doesn't.
- 40:43Speaker 9: Have to be that.
- 40:44Speaker 5: Well, and to your point, Mike, I'll play you aside
- 40:46Speaker 5: of the street and back you up a little bit.
- 40:48Speaker 5: You've seen Jamiko Ryans doing well with a good offensive
- 40:54Speaker 5: coordinator in Bobby Sloweck. And you've seen Antonio Pierce another
- 40:57Speaker 5: defensive guy. Now, I don't think that's just, but he's
- 41:01Speaker 5: done well with the Raiders, So it doesn't have to
- 41:04Speaker 5: be what everybody else is doing to have success. I
- 41:06Speaker 5: totally agree with you on that. I would ask with
- 41:10Speaker 5: Rabel forget about if he's able to get an offensive
- 41:14Speaker 5: staff together. Put how do you think in your heart
- 41:16Speaker 5: of hearts that you think Mike Rabel wants to try
- 41:19Speaker 5: to play.
- 41:20Speaker 2: Big, tough football team that wants to beat people up?
- 41:22Speaker 5: Right, That's what I'm not interested in Yeah.
- 41:25Speaker 9: I just worry. I worry about Fred's thing, because, like
- 41:29Speaker 9: Houston's a great example, Tamiko Ryans is a right there
- 41:33Speaker 9: coach of the year. Bobby Slowick has been a coordinator
- 41:37Speaker 9: for one season with C. J. Stroud and is already
- 41:39Speaker 9: getting head coaching interviews. So in a year and two years.
- 41:43Speaker 9: The only way that you avoid losing the coordinator every
- 41:46Speaker 9: two years to head coaching job if your quarterback is
- 41:49Speaker 9: good is if it's somebody who's never getting a head
- 41:51Speaker 9: coaching job ever again, Josh McDaniels. I mean, Arthur Smith
- 41:55Speaker 9: was in Tennessee when it was good offensively with the Titans,
- 41:59Speaker 9: so maybe that would be the guy that he would
- 42:01Speaker 9: bring in. But are those those guys. I don't know
- 42:04Speaker 9: if Arthur Smith will get another job. He's only failed once.
- 42:06Speaker 9: Maybe he will, but Josh McDaniels is probably not getting
- 42:09Speaker 9: a third bite at the apple.
- 42:10Speaker 13: Well.
- 42:11Speaker 1: So, but now you're making the case for Josh McDaniels
- 42:14Speaker 1: to come back as offensive coordinator, because then Robert Kraft
- 42:17Speaker 1: can say, whether it's Gerardmeo or Mike Vrabel, I'll have
- 42:23Speaker 1: you back, Josh. But you can't go anywhere for five
- 42:26Speaker 1: years at least. Well, that's sad, but but here's the guy,
- 42:32Speaker 1: here's the guy who you can depend on.
- 42:34Speaker 5: But that's not a reason to hire him because he's
- 42:36Speaker 5: not going anywhere.
- 42:37Speaker 1: Yes it is.
- 42:38Speaker 5: Do you think he's good? That's the only thing that
- 42:41Speaker 5: should be here. See the best you can get.
- 42:43Speaker 1: As an offensive coordinator.
- 42:44Speaker 5: Do you think he's the best you can get?
- 42:46Speaker 1: I feel as good as anyone.
- 42:47Speaker 5: I feel like Huck he's never worked without Brady.
- 42:50Speaker 4: Yeah, I was gonna say, I feel like the offense
- 42:51Speaker 4: is he did.
- 42:51Speaker 1: Pretty good that first year with Mac Jones.
- 42:54Speaker 5: They were fine. You know, they were fine.
- 42:57Speaker 9: I feel in hindsight there, knowing that Mac had all
- 43:01Speaker 9: these lactations, they were pretty good.
- 43:02Speaker 5: But I think I just think that it was very
- 43:05Speaker 5: circumstantially fortunate that he had the first part of Mac
- 43:09Speaker 5: Jones and then you go back and you watch the
- 43:11Speaker 5: second half. Is exactly what you got in the last
- 43:13Speaker 5: two years.
- 43:14Speaker 1: Oh, other team's kind of caught up with.
- 43:15Speaker 5: Exactly, and he got the benefit of before they caught up.
- 43:18Speaker 1: I don't know. I've heard enough of other people about
- 43:21Speaker 1: talking about Josh that.
- 43:23Speaker 5: Well, you know, some of the records that the Patriots
- 43:25Speaker 5: broke in for offensive futility, were like Josh McDaniels led
- 43:29Speaker 5: Saint Louis Rams.
- 43:31Speaker 9: Yeah, I think Josh McDaniel's a good a good coach,
- 43:33Speaker 9: a good coordinator. But they the system stays the same
- 43:37Speaker 9: and it gets probably more old school because they probably
- 43:39Speaker 9: go back to twenty one with the full back and
- 43:42Speaker 9: you know they'll have Yakub Johnson here next year again,
- 43:44Speaker 9: and like that's it's what you know, that's kind of
- 43:49Speaker 9: kind of in line with Rabel, right, Well.
- 43:51Speaker 5: We just like to try to do it different. Yeah,
- 43:53Speaker 5: And Mike to you to your point, like, and I
- 43:55Speaker 5: don't think you're wrong about Rabel. I like Rabel, probably
- 43:59Speaker 5: not as much as you do, but I like Rabel
- 44:02Speaker 5: a lot. Yeah, And I do think that he knows
- 44:03Speaker 5: how to coach, and I do think he knows how
- 44:05Speaker 5: to motivate. I just my personal feeling is just that
- 44:08Speaker 5: I feel like he will try to build it in
- 44:11Speaker 5: a way that I don't think you can go where
- 44:12Speaker 5: you want to go. You can win games, and I
- 44:15Speaker 5: think that they would win games. So I'm not saying
- 44:17Speaker 5: this is what you're saying. It's really not much of
- 44:20Speaker 5: an argument because I love Rabel so much.
- 44:22Speaker 1: Again, all I'm saying about Josh McDaniels is that Craft
- 44:27Speaker 1: could be confident that he isn't going anywhere, no one's
- 44:31Speaker 1: giving him a head coaching jobs. So then I can
- 44:34Speaker 1: bring in a guy like Rabel because he doesn't have
- 44:37Speaker 1: to worry about the offense and he doesn't have to
- 44:39Speaker 1: worry about his coordinator leaving.
- 44:41Speaker 2: The thing that I'm struggling with this same thing is
- 44:43Speaker 2: I feel like this puts the cart in front of
- 44:45Speaker 2: the horse. This assumes that not only we're going to
- 44:47Speaker 2: get a quarterback in an offensive coordinator that are good,
- 44:49Speaker 2: but that they're going to have a ton of success
- 44:52Speaker 2: and that it's going to be so good that someone's
- 44:53Speaker 2: going to want to plug him. Like I like, that's great,
- 44:56Speaker 2: But I can't just assume, like I have to hire
- 44:59Speaker 2: from a point of we have to put the best
- 45:00Speaker 2: that and you know, if it is successful, Okay, that's
- 45:02Speaker 2: going to happen to every team. They're gonna get picked.
- 45:05Speaker 2: But you know, to to try to make this higher
- 45:08Speaker 2: with saying we have to ensure like what if the
- 45:10Speaker 2: guy sucks, you know, you can't go here for five years? Well,
- 45:12Speaker 2: what if he sucks and he has to stay here
- 45:13Speaker 2: for five years? You don't know, you don't know.
- 45:16Speaker 1: And now you're making the case for hiring a head
- 45:19Speaker 1: coach who was also offensive. Mind. No, I don't care
- 45:22Speaker 1: about that.
- 45:23Speaker 2: I feel like you have a coach that's flexible and
- 45:25Speaker 2: can look the other other offensive people exist. Like they
- 45:27Speaker 2: changed coordinators with Lamar. They tweaked it a little bit.
- 45:30Speaker 2: It didn't work, but you know, you just have to
- 45:33Speaker 2: show an openness. And I think the problem is is
- 45:35Speaker 2: that when you're we're kind of used to being closed
- 45:37Speaker 2: minded with the coaching staff, that it can only be
- 45:39Speaker 2: three different guys that have all been the offensive coordinator
- 45:42Speaker 2: before that. If you haven't a coach that is a.
- 45:44Speaker 1: Little bit more wrong with that.
- 45:47Speaker 2: You know, you can, you can make moves, and if
- 45:48Speaker 2: it is that great of a program that you've established,
- 45:50Speaker 2: you're gonna say, great, now we're going to give our
- 45:52Speaker 2: quarterbacks coach.
- 45:53Speaker 5: And maybe ask like one thing you know about all
- 45:57Speaker 5: of this that's bothering me the most. It's the last
- 45:59Speaker 5: thing that my I just said, like, we can't even
- 46:01Speaker 5: talk about a guy for the GM who's never like
- 46:06Speaker 5: cross pass with Foxborough. And I just think that you're
- 46:08Speaker 5: so limiting yourself by not looking looking at all options,
- 46:12Speaker 5: and at least with Rabel. He hasn't coached here before.
- 46:17Speaker 5: But every single guy who's been brought up has either
- 46:22Speaker 5: coached here in the past or been part of the
- 46:24Speaker 5: personnel department in the past. And I just have to
- 46:26Speaker 5: think there are more ways to do this than just
- 46:28Speaker 5: with guys that you.
- 46:30Speaker 1: And people say is not really under the Belichick tree.
- 46:33Speaker 1: He played enough under Belichick that his coaching style got influence.
- 46:38Speaker 5: And that's why he's to me, I would just keep Bill.
- 46:41Speaker 2: He's enough of the Patriots, but he's not, like I
- 46:43Speaker 2: feel like Frabel is not going to try to be
- 46:45Speaker 2: Bill verbel is just going to be Rabel, the same guy.
- 46:48Speaker 1: Know that he's his.
- 46:49Speaker 5: Own man here, so's he would give it.
- 46:53Speaker 2: He's got a little of that Patriots, you know, shine
- 46:56Speaker 2: on him that we all you know, we all saw why.
- 46:57Speaker 2: But it's not the he's just been sitting in here
- 47:00Speaker 2: doing it Bill's way the whole time. Certainly that influenced him,
- 47:02Speaker 2: but what's wrong with that. I mean, we all think
- 47:04Speaker 2: Bill's a great coach. I mean, so he's he's had
- 47:06Speaker 2: a chance to work with different people. I mean, I
- 47:09Speaker 2: just I'm I'm open to it. I think I think
- 47:11Speaker 2: to me him with Mayo gets promoted to the DC.
- 47:14Speaker 2: Keep that de defensive continuity. Those guys had some crossover,
- 47:17Speaker 2: and then you really have to think about the offensive
- 47:20Speaker 2: side of the ball and put it, probably a new
- 47:21Speaker 2: staff into place. I would I would listen to arguments
- 47:24Speaker 2: for let Bill O'Brien cleanhouse and redo it his way.
- 47:27Speaker 2: I might even listen to McDonald and daniels on that.
- 47:28Speaker 2: My preference would be to have an all new offensive staff.
- 47:31Speaker 9: Well, I mean, I agree with you a lot of
- 47:34Speaker 9: your points, Mike, And I think the big thing too
- 47:36Speaker 9: with Rabel, along with the film, familiarity with the organization,
- 47:40Speaker 9: with the fan base.
- 47:41Speaker 5: He's been a head coach.
- 47:42Speaker 9: Before for years now, and I think that the succession
- 47:46Speaker 9: from Belichick, it's just a little bit cleaner to have
- 47:50Speaker 9: somebody that's been in the chair before than to have
- 47:52Speaker 9: a girod Mayo or a Ben Johnson or somebody like
- 47:55Speaker 9: that that's just never done it before. That's a difficult
- 47:58Speaker 9: situation to step into it as a brand new head
- 48:01Speaker 9: coach is you're replacing Bill Belichick. And to your point,
- 48:04Speaker 9: Rabel's you know, I sometimes call it ego, but his
- 48:07Speaker 9: personality is so he's so like comfortable in his own
- 48:12Speaker 9: skin that I don't think he's going to be rattled
- 48:14Speaker 9: by the fact that he's Bill's successor. I don't think
- 48:16Speaker 9: that's going to matter to him. And I think the
- 48:18Speaker 9: last thing, he's only forty eight years old, so you
- 48:22Speaker 9: know that, I think Bill's age is a really big
- 48:24Speaker 9: factor in all of this. He's seventy one years old.
- 48:27Speaker 9: You're drafting a quarterback you think get third overall that
- 48:30Speaker 9: you're hoping is going to be the quarterback for the
- 48:32Speaker 9: next ten years. How long is Bill Belichick going to
- 48:35Speaker 9: coach that quarterback for That's my thing. Whereas with Rabel
- 48:38Speaker 9: he could coach that quarterback for the next ten years
- 48:41Speaker 9: if all goes well. So there's a lot of good arguments.
- 48:44Speaker 9: I think Arthur Smith is a good offensive coach too,
- 48:46Speaker 9: that has worked with him in the past. Like I mentioned,
- 48:48Speaker 9: Oh maybe maybe he's he just got fired by the Falcons.
- 48:52Speaker 9: Maybe he's somebody that comes on the staff or maybe
- 48:54Speaker 9: even is the offensive coordinator, And that is different that
- 48:58Speaker 9: Arthur Smith is more from the West Coast tree and
- 49:00Speaker 9: does run things differently offensively. So I think that there
- 49:05Speaker 9: are some different things that you would get from Vrable
- 49:07Speaker 9: and I'm not totally out on it. I would probably
- 49:10Speaker 9: prefer Fred's route of the offensive minded guy. But for
- 49:14Speaker 9: the Crafts, I can see why this would just be
- 49:16Speaker 9: a home run higher to them.
- 49:18Speaker 2: All right, it's the same pattern two of what Pete
- 49:19Speaker 2: Carroll was, of what Bill was. Guy who's coached before,
- 49:23Speaker 2: has some cachet, same kind of packs.
- 49:25Speaker 1: Paul whispered to me that he's hungry, so we're gonna
- 49:27Speaker 1: take it break. We'll be right back after this.

- 50:15Speaker 8: What's up, everybody, Maddie here. Bill Belichick spoke with the
- 50:18Speaker 8: media yesterday. Let's have a listen to what he had
- 50:21Speaker 8: to say.
- 50:22Speaker 15: All right, thank you, well kind of followed a couple
- 50:26Speaker 15: of things from yesterday. You know, as I said, it
- 50:30Speaker 15: was obviously very disappointing season all the way around, players, coaches, staff, organization.
- 50:38Speaker 11: You know, everybody's not.
- 50:40Speaker 15: Not anywhere close to what our standard and expectations are.
- 50:44Speaker 11: So obviously things that need to be fixed.
- 50:51Speaker 15: Proud of the way the players in the team competed,
- 50:55Speaker 15: but not not the results obviously from any of us,
- 50:59Speaker 15: you know, start with me, and you know all the
- 51:01Speaker 15: way down to everybody else that was involved in I
- 51:05Speaker 15: know we all feel the same way. So I'm in
- 51:10Speaker 15: a contract. Do what I always do, which is, you know,
- 51:13Speaker 15: every day I come in work as hard as I
- 51:16Speaker 15: can to help the team in whatever way I can.
- 51:19Speaker 11: And so that's what I'm gonna continue to do. And
- 51:25Speaker 11: you know, today was kind of the wrap up date
- 51:28Speaker 11: for us with the players. We'll have a meeting with.
- 51:31Speaker 15: Them and and and then go from there. So as
- 51:35Speaker 15: far as any you know, decisions or direction or anything
- 51:38Speaker 15: like that for next year, is you know, way too
- 51:40Speaker 15: early for that end of the year processes. You know,
- 51:44Speaker 15: I don't think we'll be fundamentally any different from a
- 51:51Speaker 15: you know, the standpoint of how it's done. The decisions,
- 51:55Speaker 15: that's a whole nother conversation, but how it's done, you know,
- 52:00Speaker 15: meet with Robert like I always do, meet with the staff,
- 52:05Speaker 15: meet personnel department, kind of recap the season, look at
- 52:09Speaker 15: the big picture, and then look at some of the
- 52:11Speaker 15: individual situations that are you know, looming one way or another.
- 52:18Speaker 15: So but that's you know, obviously a long a long
- 52:22Speaker 15: way off.
- 52:23Speaker 11: From where we are right now.
- 52:25Speaker 15: And so we'll start, you know, at the end of
- 52:28Speaker 15: the day putting the pieces back together in terms of
- 52:31Speaker 15: you know, setting things up to go through a you know,
- 52:34Speaker 15: a good detailed analysis and to kind of, you know,
- 52:41Speaker 15: start a reconstruction if you will.
- 52:48Speaker 13: We have more hands raised than we're gonna have time
- 52:50Speaker 13: for questions. I'm gonna ask everyone to just ask one question.
- 52:53Speaker 16: We'll move on to the next.
- 52:54Speaker 13: If we get through the cycle here, we'll go back
- 52:56Speaker 13: to you. But in all, like Peohood, we won't get
- 52:58Speaker 13: all the recood this start, and i'd ask you to
- 53:01Speaker 13: turn your cameras we ask the question.
- 53:03Speaker 16: And I'm gonna start with Mike Reese follow by Andrew Kellinghan.
- 53:07Speaker 16: Thank you, Stacy. Good morning Bill. I'm curious how do.
- 53:11Speaker 13: You view the Patriots' current culture as established by ownership
- 53:15Speaker 13: in terms of setting a coach up to succeed?
- 53:21Speaker 15: As I just said, I think we'll evaluate everything and
- 53:25Speaker 15: you don't take a course at we feel like collective lay.
- 53:28Speaker 15: I'll put this on the best half of success.
- 53:35Speaker 16: Next question, Andrew Callahan, followed by Chris Lane. Great, good morning, Bill.
- 53:39Speaker 16: You've mentioned your meeting with Robert Craft.
- 53:42Speaker 11: When is that schedule for.
- 53:45Speaker 15: Yeah, I'll leave all that out, Andrew. We you know,
- 53:49Speaker 15: might might be a series of means.
- 53:50Speaker 11: I don't know. We'll deal with that internally.
- 53:58Speaker 13: Go to Chris Ryan, followed by Damn Robot. Obviously two
- 54:03Speaker 13: years ago this was a playoff team and appeared to
- 54:05Speaker 13: be you know, ascending in your view, How did the
- 54:09Speaker 13: franchise you know, get to this point.
- 54:11Speaker 16: And what are the deficiencies that you're looking.
- 54:14Speaker 17: At initially to to clean up heading into next season?
- 54:19Speaker 15: All right, well that's what I just talked about, Chris.
- 54:21Speaker 15: We'll you know, take a little at everything both, yeah,
- 54:26Speaker 15: the current situation, the current year, and and if there's
- 54:29Speaker 15: a trend or you know, whatever we feel like we
- 54:31Speaker 15: can do uh collectively as an organization. Again, it's the
- 54:35Speaker 15: same thing we've always done, just organizationally, figure out where
- 54:39Speaker 15: we're going, what's our best best path to get there,
- 54:41Speaker 15: and you know, look at the previous results, which obviously
- 54:45Speaker 15: this year weren't very good, and you know, to charter
- 54:50Speaker 15: charter course to end.
- 54:52Speaker 11: Of the future.
- 54:54Speaker 16: Thank you, Damn Moach. Followed by Josh Brogueu, Good morning.
- 55:00Speaker 13: Go.
- 55:02Speaker 16: Just a thought on.
- 55:03Speaker 18: What you were saying is how much you know one
- 55:06Speaker 18: day after the season, but how much do you want
- 55:08Speaker 18: to be here to fix this? And you often talk
- 55:11Speaker 18: about your passion for coaching still being there, how much
- 55:14Speaker 18: does that all factor into you just you know want
- 55:16Speaker 18: to get this right here in New England after the
- 55:18Speaker 18: year that you guys just had.
- 55:21Speaker 15: Yeah, well, Dan, I just open with that, and I'm
- 55:23Speaker 15: gonna do everything I can every day to do the
- 55:26Speaker 15: best I can to help our football team. That's what
- 55:28Speaker 15: I've always done. It's never been any different from me
- 55:31Speaker 15: in my career. Learned that lesson from my dad growing up.
- 55:37Speaker 15: You work for the team that you're working for and
- 55:38Speaker 15: do the best you can for till somebody tells you different.
- 55:42Speaker 15: So that's not gonna change.
- 55:46Speaker 13: Josh broken here called by Doug Kind. Josh are there,
- 56:01Speaker 13: you can hear me?
- 56:02Speaker 17: Okay, Bill, good morning, Wondering if you've given any serious
- 56:06Speaker 17: thoughts of relinquishing the personnel, maybe some of the draft
- 56:09Speaker 17: responsibilities and coaching the team that you were saying yesterday
- 56:12Speaker 17: is something you still really want to do.
- 56:16Speaker 11: Yeah, I'm looking for whatever.
- 56:19Speaker 15: You know, collectively, we decide as an organization is the
- 56:21Speaker 15: best thing to help our football team.
- 56:24Speaker 11: And you know, I have multiple roles.
- 56:27Speaker 15: In that, and I've rely on a lot of people
- 56:29Speaker 15: to help me in those uh, in those responsibilities.
- 56:32Speaker 11: If somebody's got out of the.
- 56:33Speaker 15: Final, say, I have I rely on a lot of
- 56:35Speaker 15: other people to help and you know, however that whatever
- 56:41Speaker 15: that process is, you know, I'm only part of it.
- 56:47Speaker 16: Thank you, Hied followed by the Code Raina Morrin Bill.
- 56:52Speaker 19: Have you received any indication from ownership that your future
- 56:55Speaker 19: as head coaches up.
- 56:56Speaker 5: In the air?
- 56:58Speaker 11: Yeah?
- 56:59Speaker 15: I told you on I'm here to work as hard
- 57:01Speaker 15: as I can have our team every day. That's what
- 57:02Speaker 15: I'm gonna do.
- 57:07Speaker 13: The cod Renal Fall by Zach Coxy Hey Bill.
- 57:12Speaker 19: With the season now over, I'm just wondering if you
- 57:14Speaker 19: could offer an updated assessment of Mac Jones and whether
- 57:19Speaker 19: you know you think he can be a starting quarterback
- 57:22Speaker 19: in this league.
- 57:24Speaker 11: Yeah. As I said, we'll go through, you know, our
- 57:26Speaker 11: off season evaluations and all that. Right now.
- 57:30Speaker 15: You know, it's less than twenty four hours after the
- 57:33Speaker 15: Jets came, and that's where all my focus was up
- 57:36Speaker 15: until four o'clock.
- 57:38Speaker 16: Yesterday, like cox All by Tyler Barronsky Morning Belt.
- 57:48Speaker 9: Now that the season is over, do you have any
- 57:52Speaker 9: regrets about the way you assembled this team or do
- 57:55Speaker 9: you think the struggles were more due to injuries and
- 57:57Speaker 9: bad breaks and things like that.
- 58:01Speaker 15: I think we have some things that we can build on.
- 58:03Speaker 15: I think there's some things that we need to to
- 58:06Speaker 15: fix and change.
- 58:12Speaker 16: Patter Bronski, followed by Mark Daniels and Bill. When players
- 58:18Speaker 16: reflect on playing for you this season after a coupy're
- 58:22Speaker 16: all around, What do you hope they say about you?
- 58:29Speaker 11: Yeah?
- 58:31Speaker 15: Well, I mean, look, we're all disappointed in the season,
- 58:33Speaker 15: So that's you know, I already talked about that. Yeah,
- 58:36Speaker 15: As I said, every day i've come to work here
- 58:39Speaker 15: and everywhere else else I've worked. I've done the best
- 58:42Speaker 15: that I could each each and every day to help
- 58:44Speaker 15: our football team.
- 58:45Speaker 11: So that's what I've done.
- 58:50Speaker 16: Mark Daniels, followed by Kieren Gredient, Good morning Bill.
- 58:54Speaker 20: In the event you are no longer the coach of
- 58:57Speaker 20: the Patriots, would you be interested in coaching for another team?
- 59:00Speaker 11: In one Yeah, I'm not gonna get in a lot
- 59:02Speaker 11: of hypothetical situations.
- 59:07Speaker 16: And Greg followed by Ben Voln, Good morning Bill.
- 59:13Speaker 3: Would it surprise you in any way if Robert Kraft
- 59:18Speaker 3: decided that moving on from you would be best for
- 59:22Speaker 3: the football team.
- 59:25Speaker 15: Yeah, I'm gonna focus on what I am going to
- 59:27Speaker 15: control and focus on, and that's, you know, my work
- 59:30Speaker 15: at the Ethic and my effort to do what I
- 59:33Speaker 15: can to help the Patriots organization. Which I'm heavily invested in.
- 59:39Speaker 13: Thank you bet again in these last four questions, and
- 59:42Speaker 13: give everybody a chance to ask one. So it's Ben
- 59:44Speaker 13: Bollen Still Perry.
- 59:47Speaker 5: Morning Bell.
- 59:49Speaker 16: Your handling of mac Jones this year was pretty unusual.
- 59:53Speaker 18: He got benched four times and still started the next
- 59:56Speaker 18: week three of them, and then yesterday he was made
- 59:59Speaker 18: the third string quarter.
- 1:00:00Speaker 16: I was wondering if you could explain just why the
- 1:00:02Speaker 16: handling of mac Jones this year? Why was he getting
- 1:00:05Speaker 16: his job back, the starting job back so many times?
- 1:00:07Speaker 16: Then why was he made third string yesterday?
- 1:00:11Speaker 11: Yeah?
- 1:00:13Speaker 15: Yeah, I just look, we've talked about it, but I
- 1:00:15Speaker 15: wouldn't characterize it anywhere close to the way you have.
- 1:00:18Speaker 11: Uh, we've covered that before, so we'll deal with everything
- 1:00:22Speaker 11: else going forward.
- 1:00:28Speaker 16: Harry, followed by Duke christ Grew. So are you there?
- 1:00:43Speaker 16: I'm back to field, Dukes to Grin, followed by Michael Brewley.
- 1:00:48Speaker 16: Good morning Bell.
- 1:00:49Speaker 13: Just to follow up on that personnel question, if Robert
- 1:00:52Speaker 13: came to you and said I just want you to
- 1:00:54Speaker 13: coach the football team, would you.
- 1:00:56Speaker 16: Be okay with that?
- 1:00:59Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 1:00:59Speaker 11: I just answered question, dude.
- 1:01:05Speaker 16: You know, Michael Hurley, and then give Phil Perry another chance. Yeah, Bill,
- 1:01:09Speaker 16: I know you're something similar. But when you go back
- 1:01:11Speaker 16: to April May June, heading toward cham camp, did you.
- 1:01:14Speaker 19: Think this team, as constructed with the roster and the
- 1:01:17Speaker 19: coaching staff, was built to contend for a playoff spot
- 1:01:20Speaker 19: and maybe a championship.
- 1:01:23Speaker 11: Yeah.
- 1:01:24Speaker 15: Well, the moves that we made, you know, given the
- 1:01:28Speaker 15: options that we had, felt like we do it was
- 1:01:30Speaker 15: best for the football team each time. Obviously the results
- 1:01:34Speaker 15: aren't aren't good. Some of those things were I think positive.
- 1:01:39Speaker 15: Some of them didn't work out as well as we
- 1:01:42Speaker 15: hope they would know, And there are other circumstances and
- 1:01:45Speaker 15: in some of the other decisions as well.
- 1:01:46Speaker 11: So we'll go back and look at all of them and.
- 1:01:50Speaker 15: You know, and again look forward to you know, working
- 1:01:53Speaker 15: towards a you know, solutions and things that don't prove
- 1:01:57Speaker 15: our team.
- 1:02:03Speaker 16: Bill Perry, check your audio again.
- 1:02:07Speaker 11: If you can hear me.
- 1:02:08Speaker 20: Now, Bill, come on, nicholest we've got yet.
- 1:02:16Speaker 11: Well, I just wanted to clarify something with you.
- 1:02:17Speaker 20: There's been a lot of reporting that that you and
- 1:02:19Speaker 20: Robert have not met during the course of the season.
- 1:02:23Speaker 16: Is that true?
- 1:02:24Speaker 20: Is it just that you haven't met to talk about
- 1:02:26Speaker 20: your future? How frequently Aret. Have you guys been in
- 1:02:28Speaker 20: communication over the course of this season. We've met there
- 1:02:32Speaker 20: in the season, and have they given the public nature
- 1:02:36Speaker 20: of the discussion around the team and you specifically.
- 1:02:41Speaker 11: So the follow up today, don't understand what's a answity question.
- 1:02:47Speaker 20: I'm just wondering if he's given you any indications about
- 1:02:50Speaker 20: your future because there's been so much discussion about it.
- 1:02:52Speaker 11: Bill, Yeah, I'd answered that question three times.
- 1:02:57Speaker 16: Still, thanks everyone.
- 1:03:01Speaker 21: When someone accidentally threw away the school play costumes, replacements
- 1:03:07Speaker 21: were shipped with FedEx and with picture proof of delivery,
- 1:03:10Speaker 21: everyone could focus on the perfect opening night FedEx Where
- 1:03:13Speaker 21: now it's next for residential delivery.
- 1:03:16Speaker 5: Only and now great moments in.
- 1:03:22Speaker 11: History.
- 1:03:23Speaker 1: Remember one game, our other editor, Brian Morey was out
- 1:03:26Speaker 1: for some reason or something. Paul had to do like
- 1:03:29Speaker 1: everything himself.
- 1:03:30Speaker 5: I don't think he was out.
- 1:03:31Speaker 1: He was writing a book, and uh, you know, I
- 1:03:34Speaker 1: was as the Norse as the night progressed, like a
- 1:03:37Speaker 1: different article of clothing would come off by the end
- 1:03:39Speaker 1: of the night is undershirt. I swear to god, he's sweating,
- 1:03:45Speaker 1: just trying to get everything done. It was like, thanks
- 1:03:49Speaker 1: a lot.
- 1:03:49Speaker 5: Brian exaggerates a lot of things about me, he is
- 1:03:52Speaker 5: not exaggerated.
- 1:03:55Speaker 1: Yeah, oh my god.
- 1:03:56Speaker 5: That's another great moment from.
- 1:03:59Speaker 1: There's no time like playoff season to score big on

- 1:04:25Speaker 1: hundred is the ACE ticket hotline. Web radio at Patriots
- 1:04:28Speaker 1: dot com is the email address. We did have breaking
- 1:04:30Speaker 1: news during the show. It was Mike Frable being fired
- 1:04:34Speaker 1: from the Tennessee Titans, and of course, like any other
- 1:04:37Speaker 1: free agent that comes in the market, Patriots fans immediately
- 1:04:40Speaker 1: say Patriot, Yeah, he's gonna be on this team.
- 1:04:43Speaker 2: I'm curious what the overall centimon is from the fan base,
- 1:04:46Speaker 2: especially those who maybe you know, weren't as invested in
- 1:04:49Speaker 2: A one oh three, oh four those early years when
- 1:04:52Speaker 2: really Mike Frabele made his You know, we have a
- 1:04:54Speaker 2: special place for him, But I wonder how a lot
- 1:04:57Speaker 2: of the twenty tens fans feel like that.
- 1:05:00Speaker 5: All Patriots fans have been on board since Week three
- 1:05:02Speaker 5: of two thousand and one. Oh right, Like that's.
- 1:05:06Speaker 9: Well, but speaking of you know truthfully though, because I
- 1:05:09Speaker 9: won't tell you how old I was when they won
- 1:05:11Speaker 9: back then, but I was not very old, right, So, like,
- 1:05:13Speaker 9: really I identify with the twenty tens teams, you know, Gronkowski, Edelman.
- 1:05:17Speaker 9: Obviously Brady was bold, but I Vrabel. To me, it
- 1:05:23Speaker 9: was all about leadership, right, Like I didn't really know
- 1:05:26Speaker 9: enough about football to know like what he was good
- 1:05:28Speaker 9: at it, football wise, but he was always one of
- 1:05:31Speaker 9: those like no nonsense, like locker room police like type
- 1:05:35Speaker 9: of guys that, like you just felt like the locker
- 1:05:38Speaker 9: room was gonna never be out of hand with guys
- 1:05:41Speaker 9: like Rabel and guys like McGuinness and guys like Harrison,
- 1:05:44Speaker 9: like Bruski, you know, in that locker room. And I
- 1:05:47Speaker 9: feel like that that's how he kind of coaches too,
- 1:05:49Speaker 9: where even if they're not a very good team like
- 1:05:51Speaker 9: this year, at least they they they're doing the right
- 1:05:55Speaker 9: things as an organization with him.
- 1:05:57Speaker 1: Yeah, all right, let's get to the phones, get every
- 1:06:00Speaker 1: buddy involved here. Patty's an Agua. What's up, Patty, Guys, I'll.
- 1:06:05Speaker 22: Make it quick because I know my ban's loud, fred
- 1:06:08Speaker 22: real quickly. I already didn't want to honor that lifetime
- 1:06:11Speaker 22: contract that a girl that says the music you have
- 1:06:14Speaker 22: to offer a lifetime contract. Yeah, And just going to
- 1:06:18Speaker 22: what Phil said yesterday in his press conference, I felt
- 1:06:22Speaker 22: like he was controlled a little bit, but just kind
- 1:06:25Speaker 22: of like what Paully brought up, Like I feel like
- 1:06:27Speaker 22: he fired some preemptive tricks across the media at craft
- 1:06:30Speaker 22: like I'm under contract and like maybe I'm breathing too
- 1:06:34Speaker 22: much into things. But when he says collectively to me,
- 1:06:36Speaker 22: I think that's why you're seeing some of these retreats,
- 1:06:39Speaker 22: like McDaniels should have Cat Gioli's name pop up, like,
- 1:06:42Speaker 22: you know what, I'll agree to give up some power,
- 1:06:45Speaker 22: but it's gonna be on my terms. And at this
- 1:06:47Speaker 22: point still, I think the best position is just to
- 1:06:50Speaker 22: move on. And that's all I got. I'll listen to
- 1:06:54Speaker 22: the rest of the show off here.
- 1:06:54Speaker 1: I think, all right, thanks, Patty. Yeah, I mean there's
- 1:06:57Speaker 1: no doubt that what he said was calculate.
- 1:07:00Speaker 2: Everybody heard the I'm under contract line. I mean that
- 1:07:02Speaker 2: was I think the siren to everyone, I mean, anything
- 1:07:04Speaker 2: you turned on the radio yesterday, that's what they were
- 1:07:06Speaker 2: talking about. It was, you know, certainly by design. I
- 1:07:09Speaker 2: mean it's it's yeah, absolutely it was.
- 1:07:11Speaker 5: It was by design.
- 1:07:12Speaker 9: But I also thought that it did address the elephant
- 1:07:15Speaker 9: in the room right off the top, which is that
- 1:07:17Speaker 9: there is a question of whether or not he's going
- 1:07:19Speaker 9: to be the head coach here next year.
- 1:07:20Speaker 5: Like last year.
- 1:07:22Speaker 9: He's not talking about those types of things because there's
- 1:07:24Speaker 9: no doubt that he's going to be the head coach,
- 1:07:26Speaker 9: right And I thought after the game on Sunday, even
- 1:07:28Speaker 9: when he said, you know, as for the future, Robert
- 1:07:31Speaker 9: and I will will have will meet like we always do,
- 1:07:33Speaker 9: and YadA, YadA, YadA, he didn't say that at the
- 1:07:36Speaker 9: end of press year press conference last year or two
- 1:07:38Speaker 9: years ago, right, Like, it's.
- 1:07:40Speaker 5: Just to add a little context that I don't know
- 1:07:43Speaker 5: what the timing was exactly, but there's actually a possibility
- 1:07:45Speaker 5: that when he had the season ended last year that
- 1:07:49Speaker 5: he wasn't under contract. Yeah, I mean, based on some
- 1:07:51Speaker 5: of these reports when they added a year, like I
- 1:07:55Speaker 5: don't know if he was already under contract orf it
- 1:07:57Speaker 5: was a two year extension who knows. I was probably
- 1:08:00Speaker 5: already under contract and they added a year to that, right,
- 1:08:04Speaker 5: but it's kind of unclear, like because the original Rapperport
- 1:08:09Speaker 5: multiple was was multiple years, right, right.
- 1:08:11Speaker 2: That's I think the first time I ever heard the
- 1:08:12Speaker 2: word contract come out of his mouth. That was not
- 1:08:15Speaker 2: going to talk about my contract like that, and he
- 1:08:16Speaker 2: you know, volunteered it like you've never heard him.
- 1:08:19Speaker 9: It was him acknowledging his mortality, that like he could
- 1:08:22Speaker 9: that he could be fired, like he couldn't, he might
- 1:08:25Speaker 9: not be here. And I thought that that the GM
- 1:08:27Speaker 9: comment I kind of agree with with with Paul, that's
- 1:08:30Speaker 9: that's not exactly what he said, but that those comments,
- 1:08:33Speaker 9: I felt like he just kind of he.
- 1:08:34Speaker 5: Was letting you know, I'm under contract.
- 1:08:36Speaker 9: I'm going to do what I always do until the
- 1:08:39Speaker 9: key card doesn't work anymore.
- 1:08:40Speaker 17: Right.
- 1:08:40Speaker 5: He's he's acknowledging that there's a chance that they're going
- 1:08:43Speaker 5: to tap him on the shoulder and say, Okay, you
- 1:08:44Speaker 5: don't need to be watching that film with a college
- 1:08:46Speaker 5: kid anymore. Right.
- 1:08:47Speaker 1: The other thing he said that I thought was interesting,
- 1:08:50Speaker 1: He said, you know, we'll have a series of meetings.
- 1:08:53Speaker 1: And the way I took that is whatever they're doing.
- 1:08:56Speaker 1: It's not going to be settled in one meeting. This
- 1:08:58Speaker 1: is going to be complicated.
- 1:09:00Speaker 2: Yeah, we've but now do.
- 1:09:02Speaker 4: Is today uncomplicated.
- 1:09:05Speaker 1: For for Craft? Maybe?
- 1:09:07Speaker 9: Yeah?
- 1:09:08Speaker 5: Like Rabel?
- 1:09:09Speaker 1: Yeah, now that he's you know, I mean I would
- 1:09:12Speaker 1: hope not.
- 1:09:12Speaker 5: I would hope the Rabel thing has nothing to do
- 1:09:14Speaker 5: with it. Like you're not thinking he's gonna like he's
- 1:09:17Speaker 5: now he's going to fire him, but he wasn't going
- 1:09:20Speaker 5: like I would hope that wouldn't be the case. Like
- 1:09:21Speaker 5: I said, I would rather just just keep Bill.
- 1:09:25Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:09:25Speaker 9: I feel like that the series of meetings are one
- 1:09:28Speaker 9: or two things. Either they're mapping out how Bill can stay,
- 1:09:31Speaker 9: but we can still have major changes to the organization
- 1:09:34Speaker 9: with Bill because there has to be changes, right, Or
- 1:09:37Speaker 9: they're mapping out the exit strategy of how we're going
- 1:09:40Speaker 9: to present this to the public that you're leaving, And.
- 1:09:42Speaker 1: Either way can be complicated.
- 1:09:43Speaker 5: Right.
- 1:09:44Speaker 1: Yeah, Let's go to Manny in New Bedford. What's up, Manny?
- 1:09:49Speaker 23: Hey, what's going on?
- 1:09:50Speaker 12: Guys?
- 1:09:51Speaker 7: A few quick things.
- 1:09:53Speaker 23: One, I'm not really still on uh still.
- 1:09:57Speaker 24: Leaving this year.
- 1:09:58Speaker 23: I feel like Craft isn't really trying to start all
- 1:10:01Speaker 23: over for the second time again. And number two, how
- 1:10:04Speaker 23: would you guys feel if Nick Caste was still around
- 1:10:10Speaker 23: and he was able to kind of make that final
- 1:10:12Speaker 23: say on like player personnel, do you feel like Patriots
- 1:10:15Speaker 23: would be kind of like a playoff.
- 1:10:16Speaker 24: The tender team.
- 1:10:19Speaker 1: Okay, So I think what he's saying is if Nick
- 1:10:22Speaker 1: had final say, would the team be better?
- 1:10:24Speaker 9: I think Nick drafted Nikhil Harry. So I don't know,
- 1:10:29Speaker 9: but just to this was like mini news. So I
- 1:10:32Speaker 9: didn't really not frable big. But he went on a
- 1:10:35Speaker 9: radio show in Houston and like went like scorched earth
- 1:10:38Speaker 9: on the report that he would come back to New England.
- 1:10:40Speaker 9: So I don't think Nick Ario is not an option.
- 1:10:43Speaker 5: I don't.
- 1:10:43Speaker 1: It's either why would he leave? But that's don't is
- 1:10:46Speaker 1: that what he's saying.
- 1:10:47Speaker 5: I'm just saying if he was still here, if he
- 1:10:49Speaker 5: was drafting, I still think I credit and blame Bill
- 1:10:55Speaker 5: for all of these moves. Yeah, the ones that the
- 1:10:58Speaker 5: ones that work, I credit Bill. The ones that don't,
- 1:11:01Speaker 5: I blame Bill. I don't pick and choose.
- 1:11:04Speaker 2: It's the best way to operate. But I you know,
- 1:11:05Speaker 2: but I can't help but think, you know, how much
- 1:11:08Speaker 2: does Nick Cassario have how much does Matt grow have
- 1:11:11Speaker 2: Like how much are they setting the table for what
- 1:11:14Speaker 2: Bill picks?
- 1:11:14Speaker 1: You know, like, no question, we blame Bill, like totally point.
- 1:11:18Speaker 5: I think Cassio probably had a lot to do with Harry, but.
- 1:11:21Speaker 2: They're you know, but it's hard to parse out from
- 1:11:23Speaker 2: the outside. But you know, you don't really blame Cassario
- 1:11:26Speaker 2: and say I don't want him back because of that
- 1:11:28Speaker 2: because it probably was filtered through Bill as well.
- 1:11:30Speaker 5: You know, I do think he was part of an
- 1:11:32Speaker 5: uninspired series of drafts.
- 1:11:35Speaker 2: Same with the last few.
- 1:11:37Speaker 1: I know, it's it's you know, further back in terms
- 1:11:41Speaker 1: of you know, the draft history of Belichick, but the
- 1:11:44Speaker 1: whole Rutgers era. I sincerely doubt these these scouts lined
- 1:11:49Speaker 1: up these Rutgers players and said, Bill, you need to
- 1:11:51Speaker 1: draft these guys. Right, it was all Bills let down
- 1:11:54Speaker 1: here Rutgers.
- 1:11:55Speaker 9: Well, I you know, they were always the way I
- 1:11:59Speaker 9: feel like it were with the draft with the with
- 1:12:01Speaker 9: the front office is like I kind of imagine like
- 1:12:03Speaker 9: Douce and I make our big boards and then you
- 1:12:05Speaker 9: hand the big boards to Bill and then Bill is
- 1:12:07Speaker 9: like I want that guy, and then we're like like
- 1:12:10Speaker 9: I kind of like this guy better, and He's like, well,
- 1:12:13Speaker 9: I watched all fifty of the guys you told me
- 1:12:15Speaker 9: to watch, and I like this guy the best, and
- 1:12:16Speaker 9: that's the guy we're taking.
- 1:12:17Speaker 2: Yeah, and like that, while like AJ Brown was on
- 1:12:20Speaker 2: the list, I mean example, but you know what I mean,
- 1:12:22Speaker 2: like somebody got left off, right.
- 1:12:24Speaker 9: But like in twenty nineteen, I had Nikill Harry on
- 1:12:27Speaker 9: my big board. I would have taken AJ Brown over
- 1:12:31Speaker 9: nik Kill Harry, but I acknowledged the fact that nik
- 1:12:34Speaker 9: Kill Harry was a first you know, mid first second
- 1:12:37Speaker 9: round guy that was in the that was you know,
- 1:12:39Speaker 9: a fit and all that kind of stuff. And they
- 1:12:42Speaker 9: I watched it and said, you know, I kind of
- 1:12:44Speaker 9: like AJ Brown a little bit better, Deebo Samuel a
- 1:12:47Speaker 9: little bit better. And they watched it and said that
- 1:12:49Speaker 9: they liked ni Kill Harry and like, at the time,
- 1:12:51Speaker 9: you can't kill him for it because they were all
- 1:12:53Speaker 9: kind of clustered in that one little area. But now
- 1:12:55Speaker 9: in hindsight, it's like, oh, wow, that was a horrible pickky.
- 1:12:58Speaker 4: But how do you explain cold strange?
- 1:13:00Speaker 5: Yeah, I was gonna say, I'll give you like an
- 1:13:02Speaker 5: honest assessment. I didn't. I didn't I didn't hate the
- 1:13:05Speaker 5: pick I didn't hate the Harry pick when they made it.
- 1:13:07Speaker 5: I didn't hate it.
- 1:13:08Speaker 1: No, nobody hated it.
- 1:13:09Speaker 5: But and that's where he was projected to go.
- 1:13:12Speaker 1: Yeah, but a lot of people said that then he's
- 1:13:15Speaker 1: got separation problems, and that was oh yeah.
- 1:13:18Speaker 5: I mean, there would have been other guys I would
- 1:13:19Speaker 5: have chosen, But I didn't hate the pick because that's
- 1:13:22Speaker 5: where everybody thought he was going to go. But I
- 1:13:24Speaker 5: think late first, early second, I think.
- 1:13:25Speaker 1: The problem with Bill is that the scouts will say, Okay,
- 1:13:29Speaker 1: here are are six tackles, are six tight ends that
- 1:13:33Speaker 1: we think are good, and these are the ones you
- 1:13:36Speaker 1: should look at Bill, And so he sits down and
- 1:13:38Speaker 1: looks at it, but he doesn't stop at like, oh,
- 1:13:40Speaker 1: this guy's the best. It's they're all about the same.
- 1:13:44Speaker 1: Oh but this guy comes from a program whose coach
- 1:13:47Speaker 1: I like will take him absolutely.
- 1:13:49Speaker 5: See, but I'll tell you what I'll do.
- 1:13:51Speaker 1: The scouts are like pulling the hair out.
- 1:13:52Speaker 5: I'll tell you what.
- 1:13:53Speaker 1: I'll take rank these guys for you when you're taking
- 1:13:55Speaker 1: the sixth rank guy instead of the first round. So
- 1:13:57Speaker 1: they're like, yeah, they're close enough.
- 1:14:00Speaker 5: The other thing I think that that he does in
- 1:14:02Speaker 5: particular and believes strongly, and he's had some success with it,
- 1:14:05Speaker 5: is that they'll take that group and he'll and all
- 1:14:08Speaker 5: of a sudden the pick will come up in all
- 1:14:10Speaker 5: six of them be available. He won't take any of them.
- 1:14:12Speaker 5: I'll trade down because now he says, I can get
- 1:14:16Speaker 5: the same guy, they're all the same. Why should I
- 1:14:18Speaker 5: take him at fifty when I can get him at
- 1:14:19Speaker 5: seventy and one of those six will still be available
- 1:14:22Speaker 5: in seventy And I just think that's the wrong way
- 1:14:24Speaker 5: to go.
- 1:14:24Speaker 1: Well, I don't completely disagree with that, if it's true,
- 1:14:27Speaker 1: but I think the scouts pull their hair out because
- 1:14:29Speaker 1: they don't think that that's no right.
- 1:14:30Speaker 5: I know Bill thinks it's true. I know, but recent
- 1:14:34Speaker 5: not not that recent anymore. Mike Easy ten years will
- 1:14:38Speaker 5: tell you that he hasn't really been right with that.
- 1:14:40Speaker 5: I know that strategy, but.
- 1:14:41Speaker 1: I think overall, that strategy, to me makes sense. If
- 1:14:45Speaker 1: you've got a group of guys that you all think
- 1:14:47Speaker 1: are the same, you can get any one of them later,
- 1:14:49Speaker 1: it makes sense to pick up more.
- 1:14:51Speaker 5: But I think most people would tell you they're never
- 1:14:55Speaker 5: the same. Somebody is your favorite, someone's better, someone's better
- 1:14:58Speaker 5: than the others.
- 1:14:59Speaker 9: Someone is a better and the others. But I think
- 1:15:01Speaker 9: that their their issue also too, is just they've drafted
- 1:15:06Speaker 9: more on need recently at the top of the draft
- 1:15:09Speaker 9: than I think they. I feel like they used to
- 1:15:12Speaker 9: like immediate, what's our biggest need on the depth chart? Yeah,
- 1:15:15Speaker 9: and I had to go back to the Cold Strange thing.
- 1:15:17Speaker 9: In twenty twenty two. They felt like guard was the
- 1:15:19Speaker 9: biggest need on the depth chart, like if we had
- 1:15:21Speaker 9: to play a game tomorrow, our biggest hole on this
- 1:15:23Speaker 9: roster is guard. And they either Bill liked Cole Strange
- 1:15:28Speaker 9: the best, or they had, you know, a couple of
- 1:15:29Speaker 9: guards had already come off the board, you know, Zion Johnson,
- 1:15:32Speaker 9: some other players had already come off the board. So
- 1:15:34Speaker 9: maybe they had Cold Strange as like the third or
- 1:15:37Speaker 9: fourth best guard in the draft, and even though they
- 1:15:39Speaker 9: might have had a second round grade on him, they
- 1:15:41Speaker 9: draft either go.
- 1:15:42Speaker 2: To school, Yeah, Tennessee, Tennessee.
- 1:15:49Speaker 9: There's not a lot of there's not a lot of
- 1:15:51Speaker 9: Bill ties that you teach out, but tiessee, just because
- 1:15:55Speaker 9: the whole state.
- 1:15:56Speaker 1: I'll bet you, I'll bet you he met the head coach.
- 1:16:00Speaker 5: Oh god, I'll bet he's met a lot of head coaches.
- 1:16:03Speaker 5: Doesn't draft guys from every one of them.
- 1:16:05Speaker 1: He loves Tennessee.
- 1:16:07Speaker 5: Where's the where's the Arkansas High School guy nowadays?
- 1:16:10Speaker 1: Oh?
- 1:16:10Speaker 5: Yeah, no place guy doesn't. He loves that guy.
- 1:16:13Speaker 7: Right.
- 1:16:14Speaker 9: To get back to Frable, A lot of people are
- 1:16:16Speaker 9: sharing the quotes from his Hall of Fame Patriots Hall
- 1:16:18Speaker 9: of Fame ceremony, and you do wonder, you know, with
- 1:16:21Speaker 9: this statement from the Titans about collaborative and all this stuff,
- 1:16:24Speaker 9: like him coming here sitting in the owner's box with
- 1:16:27Speaker 9: Robert Kraft and then gushing about the Patriots organization and
- 1:16:30Speaker 9: saying that it's not like this everywhere else, Like those
- 1:16:33Speaker 9: types of shots that he was taking at the Titans,
- 1:16:35Speaker 9: I feel like might have set the stage for.
- 1:16:37Speaker 5: For all of this.
- 1:16:38Speaker 1: Especially the only other places you know is Ohio State
- 1:16:41Speaker 1: in Tennesseeans Houston and Houston, Right you're at Yeah, so uh,
- 1:16:47Speaker 1: let's go to Melvin and Tennessee. What's up Melvin? Do
- 1:16:54Speaker 1: you know Bill Belich?
- 1:16:55Speaker 24: Bill?
- 1:16:55Speaker 9: Talk to you.
- 1:16:57Speaker 7: I don't.
- 1:16:59Speaker 5: Give a piece of your mind, sweet kid, you could
- 1:17:02Speaker 5: draft better.
- 1:17:08Speaker 7: I got a quick I'm gonna change the subject for
- 1:17:10Speaker 7: a second. I was wanting to know what which one
- 1:17:14Speaker 7: of the number one Seeds in the playoffs, So you
- 1:17:16Speaker 7: feel like has more I guess more pressure on him.
- 1:17:21Speaker 7: Would you feel like the Ravens have more with the
- 1:17:24Speaker 7: you know, m vps and all the pressure come with
- 1:17:26Speaker 7: Lamar in the most recent game. But the forty nine
- 1:17:29Speaker 7: ers have been knocking at the door for a while.
- 1:17:31Speaker 5: So I failed San Francisco, Sancisco.
- 1:17:35Speaker 9: I think there's a lot of individual pressure on Lamar Jackson.
- 1:17:38Speaker 9: But like Harbaugh's already made man, He's already won a
- 1:17:40Speaker 9: super Bowl. Like I don't know if there's necessarily pressure
- 1:17:43Speaker 9: on the organization, but Labar has a ton of pressure
- 1:17:46Speaker 9: to succeed in the playoffs. He hasn't had a playoff run.
- 1:17:48Speaker 9: He's one playoff game in his career and it was
- 1:17:51Speaker 9: against a like a bad was the Titans, might have
- 1:17:54Speaker 9: been the Titans. It was against a bad team that Do.
- 1:17:57Speaker 1: You feel brock Purty has any pressure that he puts
- 1:18:01Speaker 1: on himself to prove that I can do this in
- 1:18:03Speaker 1: the biggest stage.
- 1:18:04Speaker 5: Yeah, I think both. I think both of the one seeds,
- 1:18:07Speaker 5: by the way an offensive explosion without him last week.
- 1:18:10Speaker 5: I think both one seeds have a lot of pressure.
- 1:18:13Speaker 5: I agree with with both Melvin and Evan. I just
- 1:18:16Speaker 5: feel like at Shanahan has been like considered the wonder
- 1:18:20Speaker 5: can felt like how long? Yeah, I mean how long
- 1:18:23Speaker 5: without winning anything? Right, everybody says they have the model franchise,
- 1:18:27Speaker 5: they have all the talent in the world, they have
- 1:18:29Speaker 5: all the elements in place, and on top of all that,
- 1:18:32Speaker 5: they have this just outside the box, wonderful thinker who's
- 1:18:37Speaker 5: never won anything.
- 1:18:37Speaker 9: I think there's more pressure. I agree, especially I mean
- 1:18:40Speaker 9: hits that pass in the super Bowl, right.
- 1:18:43Speaker 1: At least the forty nine ers if they come up
- 1:18:45Speaker 1: short of the super Bowl, and you know, if fail,
- 1:18:48Speaker 1: you should be you know, they have to at least
- 1:18:50Speaker 1: get to the super Bowl.
- 1:18:51Speaker 5: I just remember with.
- 1:18:52Speaker 2: Those Patriots teams, like you have to make the most
- 1:18:55Speaker 2: of when you have this talent, much talent together in
- 1:18:57Speaker 2: one place, and you know, if you don't win the
- 1:18:59Speaker 2: super Bowl, everyone's gonna forget about you. And I mean,
- 1:19:02Speaker 2: I don't have it at a quarterback rubber staff everything
- 1:19:04Speaker 2: Paul said.
- 1:19:04Speaker 5: But you know, a lot of pressure.
- 1:19:06Speaker 2: It's just for the organization, like you know, it's it's
- 1:19:08Speaker 2: it's you know, next year you might have Christian McCaffrey's
- 1:19:11Speaker 2: I mean that he's free agent anyways, or maybe not
- 1:19:13Speaker 2: for a couple years, but somebody a couple of those guys.
- 1:19:16Speaker 5: But they're gonna eventually they're gonna lose some guys because
- 1:19:18Speaker 5: they're just gonna want.
- 1:19:19Speaker 9: To get They'll lose some guys on the edges, right,
- 1:19:21Speaker 9: Like I'm sure they'll be able to retain all the
- 1:19:22Speaker 9: stars if they pay for it, but it's gonna be
- 1:19:25Speaker 9: you know, the the whoever's the Jilani Tavai of the
- 1:19:29Speaker 9: forty nine ers, like those types of players has.
- 1:19:31Speaker 5: Million dollar man says, everybody's got a price, Like you
- 1:19:33Speaker 5: can't just pay every I mean, you can fit them
- 1:19:35Speaker 5: all in if you want, right, but you can't.
- 1:19:37Speaker 9: Just like everybody's got a budget like this, it's just
- 1:19:40Speaker 9: Drake green Law become a guy that you know, goes
- 1:19:42Speaker 9: down somewhere something.
- 1:19:43Speaker 5: They're gonna lose pieces. And I do think that Baltimore
- 1:19:47Speaker 5: has a lot of pressure.
- 1:19:48Speaker 11: They do.
- 1:19:49Speaker 5: Like I think the Lamar thing is real and Harbor
- 1:19:52Speaker 5: is real. Like Harbaugh like that was twenty twelve. It's
- 1:19:55Speaker 5: a long time ago. What that he won?
- 1:19:57Speaker 1: Todd's in North Carolina.
- 1:19:59Speaker 10: Up Todd, Hey, guys, he'll do us the solid I
- 1:20:03Speaker 10: read Evans article and I was watching the play on
- 1:20:06Speaker 10: the field for the last game, and it just looked
- 1:20:08Speaker 10: like the defense was kind of vanilla. It didn't look
- 1:20:11Speaker 10: like it did too much, and the offense was kind
- 1:20:15Speaker 10: of the same way. It looked like they were just
- 1:20:17Speaker 10: showing up, punching the cards. And you know, a couple
- 1:20:20Speaker 10: of guys may have been trying. But even you guys
- 1:20:21Speaker 10: said by halftime you couldn't pick out anybody for your
- 1:20:24Speaker 10: good list for the postgame show. So did maybe they
- 1:20:28Speaker 10: just pulled that.
- 1:20:29Speaker 5: I couldn't pick out anybody from my bad list either.
- 1:20:31Speaker 1: I don't know if you heard did you hear the
- 1:20:32Speaker 1: beginning of the show? Todd for me? Yeah? Did you
- 1:20:35Speaker 1: hear the beginning of the show?
- 1:20:37Speaker 10: Unfortunately, no, I was cueued up yeah, so fun because
- 1:20:41Speaker 10: of early dismissal, So I apologize.
- 1:20:42Speaker 1: Now. Evan did address it, and he agrees with you.
- 1:20:45Speaker 1: He thought that the defense in particular.
- 1:20:48Speaker 5: Yeah, not offense yeah.
- 1:20:50Speaker 1: Times Yeah, looked looked like they were a little bit
- 1:20:54Speaker 1: too vanilla for his liking, And I like, yeah.
- 1:21:00Speaker 10: My other question is, what about the harborball with Michigan?
- 1:21:02Speaker 24: Would you touch him or is there just too much
- 1:21:04Speaker 24: baggage with No?
- 1:21:05Speaker 5: I would but he's not coming here.
- 1:21:06Speaker 16: Yeah.
- 1:21:08Speaker 9: I think the problem with uh with Harbaugh that I
- 1:21:11Speaker 9: find interesting for the Patriots is if he were to
- 1:21:15Speaker 9: come here, the amount of people that he would want
- 1:21:17Speaker 9: to hire, like like you know, the college teams don't
- 1:21:21Speaker 9: run like NFL teams. Like college teams, their coaching staffs
- 1:21:24Speaker 9: are like fifty people, right, and it's it would be
- 1:21:28Speaker 9: so different from what it is now where Bill has
- 1:21:31Speaker 9: like the smallest coaching staff in the NFL and the
- 1:21:34Speaker 9: smallest front office in the NFL. It would be a
- 1:21:36Speaker 9: completely different operation totally. And is that something that that
- 1:21:41Speaker 9: they would really want to do?
- 1:21:42Speaker 5: I would do it in a plank. I don't think
- 1:21:43Speaker 5: he'd have any interesting coming here, but I do think
- 1:21:47Speaker 5: that I do think the Chargers and Raiders. I would
- 1:21:50Speaker 5: keep an eye on those two.
- 1:21:52Speaker 2: Does his offense concern you?
- 1:21:53Speaker 5: Like fables who Harbaugh? Harbaugh has been great with a
- 1:21:57Speaker 5: whole bunch of different offers.
- 1:21:58Speaker 1: I think he's innovative.
- 1:21:59Speaker 5: He's had a whole bunch of different kinds offenses. Right
- 1:22:02Speaker 5: now at Michigan. He runs a ground oriented attack. That's
- 1:22:06Speaker 5: not what he ran in San Francisco. It's not when
- 1:22:08Speaker 5: he ran in Stanford, right.
- 1:22:09Speaker 1: He Marty and Reno writes in at web radio at
- 1:22:12Speaker 1: Patris dot com. Any chance of you guys setting up
- 1:22:15Speaker 1: a webcam so Patriots fans can see the white smoke
- 1:22:18Speaker 1: from the top of the stadium lighthouse tower when the
- 1:22:20Speaker 1: Crafts make a decision on built Brian heinswek one of
- 1:22:23Speaker 1: those jokes.
- 1:22:24Speaker 9: That's pretty We've been making that joke, so he stole it.
- 1:22:26Speaker 5: Oh diddio, I'm just kidding.
- 1:22:28Speaker 9: It's been a group within.
- 1:22:31Speaker 1: Also, was I the only one surprised that the refs
- 1:22:33Speaker 1: didn't call adult Protective Services on the Michigan defense for
- 1:22:37Speaker 1: the abuse and hits they dished out on the elderly
- 1:22:40Speaker 1: Penix last night.
- 1:22:41Speaker 2: Those guys are tough and I like them.
- 1:22:43Speaker 5: Yeah, it was a tough tough night for Pennix.
- 1:22:48Speaker 9: Michigan defensive coaching staff too. So that the Ravens defensive
- 1:22:52Speaker 9: coordinator MacDonald was their their defensive coordinator before and then
- 1:22:58Speaker 9: he went to the NFL. Now he's probably if you
- 1:23:00Speaker 9: head coach in the NFL, and now their current defensive
- 1:23:03Speaker 9: coordinator is getting talked about as a head coaching candidate. Also,
- 1:23:08Speaker 9: and my guy, but they run a really mass like
- 1:23:14Speaker 9: really really modern exotic pressure system.
- 1:23:19Speaker 5: You gotta have smart guys like my ever defensive backs.
- 1:23:23Speaker 1: Last night play.
- 1:23:26Speaker 5: Unbelievable tackle on that third down two earlier in the game.
- 1:23:28Speaker 1: I saw that one Solomon in the Bay Area. To
- 1:23:33Speaker 1: say it was disappointing season is an understatement. If you
- 1:23:36Speaker 1: told me this team would not make the playoffs, I
- 1:23:38Speaker 1: would believe it five months ago. But if you told
- 1:23:40Speaker 1: me this team would only win four games, I would
- 1:23:43Speaker 1: have fallen out of my chair. I appreciate what Bill
- 1:23:46Speaker 1: has done for the team. Six super Bowls would not
- 1:23:48Speaker 1: have happened without him, but his personnel decisions have been disastrous.
- 1:23:52Speaker 1: My feeling on the status of Bill is the longer
- 1:23:54Speaker 1: we do not hear from the organization and party ways,
- 1:23:57Speaker 1: the more likely he's going to be the Patriots head
- 1:24:00Speaker 1: coach next season. And when I read the McDaniels rumor,
- 1:24:03Speaker 1: I just laughed out loud.
- 1:24:04Speaker 5: Yeah, well, I mean, isn't that kind of like obviously,
- 1:24:11Speaker 5: if they don't announce that he's not coming back, the chances.
- 1:24:14Speaker 2: He's gonna keep staying until they announce it.
- 1:24:16Speaker 5: Right, the longer it he's still here, he's still here.
- 1:24:20Speaker 1: Shoddy from Houston. Why is this organization run like a
- 1:24:23Speaker 1: top secret federal agency. No one ever knows anything, and
- 1:24:27Speaker 1: everything is always mysterious. Season is over and other teams
- 1:24:31Speaker 1: are already setting up interviews with gms and head coaches,
- 1:24:33Speaker 1: while we have no clue what the next step will be.
- 1:24:36Speaker 1: I understand Bill's up obsession with the art of war
- 1:24:39Speaker 1: and books about war, but can we just be a
- 1:24:41Speaker 1: normal sporting franchise for one week?
- 1:24:43Speaker 9: Well, to be fair, there are these other teams, Like
- 1:24:46Speaker 9: firing Arthur Smith is not the same as firing Bill
- 1:24:49Speaker 9: Belichick right like so to in terms of why because
- 1:24:52Speaker 9: it just isn't But why because he's the greatest coach
- 1:24:55Speaker 9: of all time?
- 1:24:55Speaker 2: I know.
- 1:24:56Speaker 5: But if you're going to fire him, just fire him,
- 1:24:58Speaker 5: like why? Like, I don't understand it, SA if you
- 1:25:00Speaker 5: want to keep them, then it's just that you're keeping them,
- 1:25:03Speaker 5: Like I get it. It's it's way more complicated than that.
- 1:25:07Speaker 5: I don't think it should.
- 1:25:08Speaker 2: I think we're day two.
- 1:25:09Speaker 5: I think we complicate things, that's what we do.
- 1:25:11Speaker 9: I don't know. I feel I understand that it's like
- 1:25:14Speaker 9: the optics and in the fact that it has to
- 1:25:16Speaker 9: be at least handled correctly, like fire, I understand stuff
- 1:25:22Speaker 9: should have been put in place, like whatever your decision
- 1:25:24Speaker 9: should have been. Maybe but maybe Bill said I want
- 1:25:26Speaker 9: to finish out coaching the team, and like, I'm not
- 1:25:28Speaker 9: going to get into this right now, I don't know, Like, Okay,
- 1:25:30Speaker 9: if there's a like we woke up at eight am
- 1:25:32Speaker 9: on Monday morning and the Falcons had announced that they've
- 1:25:34Speaker 9: fired Arthur Smith.
- 1:25:35Speaker 5: I understand why the Patriots didn't do that.
- 1:25:37Speaker 9: For the greatest coach of all time that won six
- 1:25:39Speaker 9: Super Bowls for the organization.
- 1:25:41Speaker 5: I can understand if they're keeping him. I understand it
- 1:25:43Speaker 5: both ways, But I don't understand why you can't just
- 1:25:46Speaker 5: make an announcement at eight o'clock on Monday morning it.
- 1:25:47Speaker 4: Was respectful to keep him the entire season long, because honestly,
- 1:25:50Speaker 4: after the SATs game or even after Germany, most coaches
- 1:25:53Speaker 4: would have been fired with the whole situation.
- 1:25:55Speaker 5: That was happening.
- 1:25:56Speaker 4: And so for me, it's like you had all season
- 1:25:57Speaker 4: long to prepare this like cute letter to the fans,
- 1:26:00Speaker 4: to the to the whole statement you had all season long.
- 1:26:03Speaker 5: Term, I would argue, if you want to keep them,
- 1:26:05Speaker 5: like I'm not going to tell you wrong, Like, yeah,
- 1:26:07Speaker 5: I just don't think it's that complicated, Like you've had
- 1:26:10Speaker 5: all this time to sort of decide which way you
- 1:26:13Speaker 5: want to go, and that just like which way you decided, the.
- 1:26:17Speaker 9: Whole football operations is him, like the scouting staff, the
- 1:26:22Speaker 9: personnel guys, the coaching staff, this like so Birge like
- 1:26:27Speaker 9: you like there's like a million people that are affected
- 1:26:30Speaker 9: by this.
- 1:26:30Speaker 5: I like, none of that has changed since you made
- 1:26:33Speaker 5: your decision.
- 1:26:33Speaker 9: I'm just saying that the infrastructure, like laying an infrastructure
- 1:26:36Speaker 9: of a football operations for twenty four years, is a
- 1:26:39Speaker 9: lot different than the falcons for three with Arthur Smith.
- 1:26:42Speaker 1: It's a lot to unrap.
- 1:26:43Speaker 5: That's why it didn't happen last year. I think last
- 1:26:48Speaker 5: year that's why you sent a letter to season ticket
- 1:26:50Speaker 5: holders instead of making a drastic move.
- 1:26:53Speaker 9: I think they didn't happen last year because they gave
- 1:26:54Speaker 9: him a mull again. They said, all right, you got
- 1:26:56Speaker 9: one year, yep, and now you've had one year. I
- 1:26:59Speaker 9: do not disagree that decision. I just understand why you
- 1:27:02Speaker 9: have to handle it differently well.
- 1:27:03Speaker 1: And I also think Robert Kraft worries about.
- 1:27:07Speaker 5: P R right, and I don't. I think that you
- 1:27:09Speaker 5: should worry just about what you think is right and
- 1:27:13Speaker 5: do the best you can. No one's perfect. None, none
- 1:27:16Speaker 5: of us has ever gone through life without making mistakes,
- 1:27:20Speaker 5: and no one's expecting Robert Kraft to be any more
- 1:27:22Speaker 5: perfect than anybody else.
- 1:27:23Speaker 1: But you don't want to be cold with this guy.
- 1:27:26Speaker 5: But it's not cold, Fred. I think it's actually if
- 1:27:29Speaker 5: if you in fact move on, isn't it better for
- 1:27:33Speaker 5: him to just like no, like, that's not I don't
- 1:27:35Speaker 5: think that's cold at all.
- 1:27:37Speaker 4: And I think it's better for like his support staff,
- 1:27:39Speaker 4: who is senior in limbo, like, okay, should I be
- 1:27:41Speaker 4: selling house.
- 1:27:43Speaker 9: There's a lot of people like involved, and they all
- 1:27:47Speaker 9: deserve to know as quickly as they can then, which
- 1:27:49Speaker 9: is why I think the Raiders allowed back to that
- 1:27:51Speaker 9: common Brisillo thing.
- 1:27:52Speaker 5: They allowed him to interview with another job, even though
- 1:27:56Speaker 5: it's a lateral move. He's the offensive the offensive line
- 1:28:00Speaker 5: coach for the Raiders, and they're allowing them to interview
- 1:28:02Speaker 5: for the Giants for the same position because there's uncertainty
- 1:28:05Speaker 5: as to what's going to happen with the Raiders.
- 1:28:07Speaker 9: I just think that I said earlier that it's one
- 1:28:12Speaker 9: of two things. Either they're trying to hash out and
- 1:28:14Speaker 9: exit strategy, or they're trying to hash out how they
- 1:28:16Speaker 9: can keep bill and make changes. And that's why I
- 1:28:20Speaker 9: wonder if it's the keep bill and make changes, is
- 1:28:23Speaker 9: we're still trying to figure out is that even feasible,
- 1:28:26Speaker 9: Like how would that look? What would be bills pitch,
- 1:28:28Speaker 9: what would be ownership's pitch? And is there a middle
- 1:28:32Speaker 9: ground there that we actually think could work that in
- 1:28:36Speaker 9: that I don't think would have been hashed out when
- 1:28:39Speaker 9: they're game planning for the Bills, Like I just don't
- 1:28:41Speaker 9: like whether they needed to win the game or not.
- 1:28:43Speaker 9: Is besides the point, Like that's deep, Like you can't
- 1:28:47Speaker 9: just like and I.
- 1:28:48Speaker 5: Would just counter with if he didn't want to talk
- 1:28:51Speaker 5: about this because he was game planning with the Bills,
- 1:28:53Speaker 5: then well I tried Bill, I tried. So Like again,
- 1:28:57Speaker 5: eight Monday comes around, I land.
- 1:29:01Speaker 2: More on the side of the complication of whatever it
- 1:29:04Speaker 2: will be, rather than like a respect factor of I mean,
- 1:29:06Speaker 2: I hear like as far as the respect I like,
- 1:29:08Speaker 2: I hear I find it respectful in a way to say, look,
- 1:29:11Speaker 2: it's over, We're not going to drag you through the mud.
- 1:29:13Speaker 2: But I just I think when we find out what
- 1:29:15Speaker 2: is happening either way, it might be a little bit
- 1:29:17Speaker 2: more clear, while there were a lot of moving pieces
- 1:29:19Speaker 2: for them to execute, whether he's staying, whether he's going,
- 1:29:21Speaker 2: and that's why. But it's Tuesday.
- 1:29:23Speaker 5: I mean, you know, I'm not out of my mind.
- 1:29:27Speaker 2: No, I mean, you know, if we get to Friday
- 1:29:29Speaker 2: and yeah, we're like, we don't know.
- 1:29:30Speaker 9: Paul Thursday with an answer that's probably accurate.
- 1:29:35Speaker 5: Yeah, I think if the week went by and there
- 1:29:37Speaker 5: was nothing, I think I would probably feel differently and
- 1:29:40Speaker 5: just to re up what Mike just like I I
- 1:29:43Speaker 5: know it probably doesn't sound it, but I have the
- 1:29:45Speaker 5: utmost amount of respect for Bill Belichick the coach. I
- 1:29:48Speaker 5: really do. I know sometimes it probably doesn't sound that
- 1:29:51Speaker 5: way because I questioned some things that he does and
- 1:29:54Speaker 5: who am I to to do that? And I get that,
- 1:29:57Speaker 5: but I don't think it. You'd be hard press to
- 1:30:00Speaker 5: find anybody that thinks more of him as a coach
- 1:30:02Speaker 5: than I do. And I mean that like, I think
- 1:30:04Speaker 5: he's a great coach, not overrated, not just good. He
- 1:30:08Speaker 5: was a great coach for this team for twenty four years.
- 1:30:12Speaker 1: John in California, I was firmly in the Bill's gotta go,
- 1:30:15Speaker 1: Let's tank school. But yesterday Bill changed everything by doing
- 1:30:18Speaker 1: what the entire PU team and everyone else said would
- 1:30:21Speaker 1: never happen. He said he'll accept a different role to
- 1:30:24Speaker 1: stay with the team. That's the game changer, and maybe
- 1:30:28Speaker 1: it works. We all agree Bill is a great coach,
- 1:30:31Speaker 1: terrible GM, girod Mayo has spearheaded a great defense. Peoli
- 1:30:34Speaker 1: and McDaniels are circling. We have the number three draft
- 1:30:37Speaker 1: pick for our franchise quarterbacks. So now there is an
- 1:30:40Speaker 1: everyone wins redemption story option on the table. Bill's coach,
- 1:30:44Speaker 1: Scott Peolia's GM, Josh as oc Gerada's DC crafts miraculously
- 1:30:50Speaker 1: drawing on the old as they changed to the new,
- 1:30:52Speaker 1: and the Patriots instant contenders against the fading AFC East.
- 1:30:56Speaker 1: I can't believe him saying this, but I'm in.
- 1:30:59Speaker 5: Fading AFC East.
- 1:31:00Speaker 9: Pretty good football game on Sunday night between.
- 1:31:03Speaker 5: The fading teams. Can I can I just ask you know,
- 1:31:10Speaker 5: I'll just repeat that Bill did not say what you said.
- 1:31:12Speaker 5: That He said he said he'd be open to uh
- 1:31:17Speaker 5: doing what's in the best interest of the team. He
- 1:31:19Speaker 5: did not say he would be willing to give up
- 1:31:23Speaker 5: his personnel powers. Well, I'm also not interested in that.
- 1:31:26Speaker 2: That's someone's music wait, am I hearing someone's music playing.
- 1:31:31Speaker 1: Coming coming to us from the world wide?
- 1:31:36Speaker 4: What is it?
- 1:31:37Speaker 1: W w W? What does that stand for? Entertainment? Is
- 1:31:43Speaker 1: Megan Morand? What's up? Megan God?
- 1:31:47Speaker 22: Hello?
- 1:31:48Speaker 24: You guys? Is anything going on this week? Tell us quiet?
- 1:31:52Speaker 6: Post season week in Foxborough?
- 1:31:56Speaker 1: I was gonna say, well, what you know what spurred
- 1:31:58Speaker 1: you to call today?
- 1:32:01Speaker 25: I mean, there's like nothing going on Patriots, So I
- 1:32:05Speaker 25: figured you guys just needed someone to call.
- 1:32:07Speaker 9: In and things up.
- 1:32:08Speaker 2: Oh yeah, you missed a good season, Meg, No, this
- 1:32:12Speaker 2: is when the season starts.
- 1:32:14Speaker 1: Dude.
- 1:32:14Speaker 24: I am locked in on what's going on right now.
- 1:32:17Speaker 6: I set an alarm yesterday to watch Belichick's pressior.
- 1:32:20Speaker 1: So let me ask you Ques wrong. In the wrestling world,
- 1:32:22Speaker 1: is a thing called work, you know, being worked? Are
- 1:32:25Speaker 1: we being worked here? Or is this a done deal?
- 1:32:27Speaker 1: What do you think?
- 1:32:30Speaker 9: I don't know.
- 1:32:30Speaker 25: I mean sometimes I always think when it comes to
- 1:32:32Speaker 25: the Patriots, I'm like, is this the work?
- 1:32:35Speaker 6: Are they setting us up for something?
- 1:32:37Speaker 14: Right?
- 1:32:37Speaker 25: I feel like Bill would be an amazing heel, don't you,
- 1:32:41Speaker 25: And I kind of feel like he's always working us.
- 1:32:43Speaker 2: Yeah, she's in the business.
- 1:32:46Speaker 1: Oh yeah, So how's it going over there?
- 1:32:50Speaker 6: It's going great. I just did a show right now,
- 1:32:52Speaker 6: and then I have like an hour before a production meeting.
- 1:32:56Speaker 25: So I was tuning in to you guys because obviously
- 1:32:59Speaker 25: we all want to know what's going to happen by Friday,
- 1:33:02Speaker 25: is still staying?
- 1:33:03Speaker 23: Is going?
- 1:33:04Speaker 24: Who's going to be the next coach?
- 1:33:06Speaker 6: Brabel is just fired?
- 1:33:07Speaker 25: I just feel like it's too obvious if we go Rabel, right,
- 1:33:11Speaker 25: we too obvious Rabel or Mayo? And then I'm like,
- 1:33:15Speaker 25: am I seriously really believing right now that Bill.
- 1:33:18Speaker 6: Belichick's going to be out?
- 1:33:20Speaker 2: Like?
- 1:33:20Speaker 25: I believe it, but I won't totally believe it until
- 1:33:24Speaker 25: it happens.
- 1:33:25Speaker 1: Right right?
- 1:33:26Speaker 2: Did you watch so many games this year you might
- 1:33:27Speaker 2: believe it?
- 1:33:28Speaker 5: Yeah?
- 1:33:30Speaker 6: I was a red Zone meg this year.
- 1:33:32Speaker 25: I thought of Paul every weekend.
- 1:33:34Speaker 6: You know, red Zon did up.
- 1:33:36Speaker 1: What would your great aunt be saying about all this?
- 1:33:40Speaker 24: Oh my no, my grandmother?
- 1:33:41Speaker 1: Oh your grandmother? Is that right?
- 1:33:43Speaker 5: Yeah?
- 1:33:43Speaker 11: Oh?
- 1:33:44Speaker 6: She would be like, Jesus, you really thinks I'll let
- 1:33:47Speaker 6: that man go?
- 1:33:49Speaker 25: Super Bowl title? Oh my god, Jesus, Mary and Joseph.
- 1:33:54Speaker 25: He was the most accomplished coach in the NFL.
- 1:34:00Speaker 5: Hey, Nan, I'll watch back to back possessions on offense
- 1:34:02Speaker 5: and then.
- 1:34:03Speaker 9: Get back to me.
- 1:34:04Speaker 2: Right, So, what do you guys think is going to happen?
- 1:34:07Speaker 1: I mean I think we're all, you know, under the
- 1:34:09Speaker 1: impression that the time has come. Yeah, and the Crafts agree.
- 1:34:13Speaker 25: With that, yeah yeah, but does it really happen?
- 1:34:20Speaker 1: I think so.
- 1:34:22Speaker 5: You know, it's not like when you were here and
- 1:34:24Speaker 5: they used to tell you.
- 1:34:24Speaker 1: You know, Megan, My thing is like, I can't imagine
- 1:34:28Speaker 1: that they haven't made a decision and if they, if they,
- 1:34:31Speaker 1: if they're going to keep them, why would they let
- 1:34:33Speaker 1: him dangle out there for all this time? I mean,
- 1:34:35Speaker 1: these rumors have been going on for a while, and
- 1:34:38Speaker 1: you know, all Robert Kraft would have had to do
- 1:34:40Speaker 1: was say he's staying and that would have ended it.
- 1:34:42Speaker 1: But he didn't. So you know that to me tells
- 1:34:47Speaker 1: me that it's over.
- 1:34:49Speaker 6: And his Fred always tells us watch.
- 1:34:51Speaker 1: What they do, right, in this case, they didn't do anything. Yeah.
- 1:34:56Speaker 6: Yeah, Well we are witnessing historic times, guys, So I
- 1:35:00Speaker 6: just had to give you a buzz because we are
- 1:35:03Speaker 6: all patiently awaiting the drop of something.
- 1:35:07Speaker 13: Right.
- 1:35:07Speaker 6: I don't know when it's gonna happen, but I imagine
- 1:35:09Speaker 6: by Friday will know something.
- 1:35:11Speaker 1: Okay, Well, thanks for calling it. It's good to hear
- 1:35:13Speaker 1: your voice.
- 1:35:14Speaker 9: Thanks mag Say hi to ay Dog this year.
- 1:35:16Speaker 1: See you later. Megan from the w WE The Worldwide.
- 1:35:24Speaker 5: O'Brien.
- 1:35:25Speaker 1: Yeah, I don't know what last name to use for her,
- 1:35:27Speaker 1: you know, because she's not on air right now.
- 1:35:30Speaker 2: Irish ones and one made up.
- 1:35:31Speaker 5: Yeah, but yeah called in as Moran's Connolly.
- 1:35:35Speaker 1: Moran's Connolly, all right. I mean I think she's back
- 1:35:38Speaker 1: in the northeast too, Yeah, Connecticut.
- 1:35:41Speaker 9: A little uh more on Vrabel that I feel like
- 1:35:43Speaker 9: it's relevant.
- 1:35:45Speaker 1: Uh.
- 1:35:46Speaker 9: The Titans believed is from Diana Russini. The Titans believed
- 1:35:49Speaker 9: trading Rabel was too complicated and would take too long.
- 1:35:52Speaker 9: Per sources, they wanted to move on quickly. I was
- 1:35:55Speaker 9: told Rabel never asked ownership for a trade or asked
- 1:35:57Speaker 9: out of Tennessee. But I thought it was interesting that
- 1:35:59Speaker 9: they felt like trying to trade him, even if he
- 1:36:02Speaker 9: had value, was going to take too long. And it
- 1:36:04Speaker 9: kind of relates to they tried to trade Bill, Like
- 1:36:07Speaker 9: that's kind of the same thing.
- 1:36:08Speaker 2: Yeah, could you imagine like some of my thought off
- 1:36:10Speaker 2: the table now, But like I was wondering if there
- 1:36:11Speaker 2: was a world where they trade for each for each other,
- 1:36:14Speaker 2: like you swap coaches.
- 1:36:15Speaker 5: Does that ever happen before? I don't know, did.
- 1:36:20Speaker 16: No?
- 1:36:20Speaker 5: I don't know.
- 1:36:21Speaker 2: So funny built use like Tennessee from what I've heard, sneaky.
- 1:36:27Speaker 5: Earlier in the show, negative dues right there taking a
- 1:36:30Speaker 5: shot at the boss. Sorry, I'm not gonna get mad.
- 1:36:36Speaker 5: You want, I'm not mad?
- 1:36:42Speaker 2: There you go.
- 1:36:42Speaker 9: That's a good It's honestly fantastic. I mean, it's really.
- 1:36:47Speaker 5: As way too.
- 1:36:47Speaker 2: Talented to be wasting time making a show about.
- 1:36:49Speaker 5: Me, but ridiculous. Okay, here we go, and every like
- 1:36:53Speaker 5: that's that was my favorite, unbelievable.
- 1:36:55Speaker 1: Really good. That might be better than the mic is
- 1:36:59Speaker 1: back from practice, of course, it might be better.
- 1:37:02Speaker 5: Than I'm willing to say.
- 1:37:03Speaker 9: And that's my songs.
- 1:37:05Speaker 5: Just yeah, it's I don't know, it's different.
- 1:37:07Speaker 1: Jonah says, I can appreciate Rabel's defensive coaching acumen and
- 1:37:11Speaker 1: tough team building ideology. However, that is going backwards. The
- 1:37:15Speaker 1: Patriots need an offensive head coach if they move on
- 1:37:17Speaker 1: for Bill, and should make Jerrod DC if they can
- 1:37:21Speaker 1: draft opinions. Drake May isn't good enough to be the
- 1:37:23Speaker 1: Patriots quarterback, as NC State has shown the last two years.
- 1:37:27Speaker 1: I acknowledge I'm biased. First pick should be a quarterback.
- 1:37:30Speaker 1: If not, then it should be offensive tackle. Even though
- 1:37:34Speaker 1: we need a wide receiver and he wants to know
- 1:37:37Speaker 1: which second wide receiver do you like. I'm a fan
- 1:37:40Speaker 1: of uh Agbuka or Worthy.
- 1:37:44Speaker 9: Buka's from Ohio. State's like a slock guy. Worthies like
- 1:37:46Speaker 9: this year's a Flowers, but like a little taller, a
- 1:37:49Speaker 9: little bit bigger.
- 1:37:51Speaker 2: I'm not really covening slot guys anymore this year.
- 1:37:54Speaker 9: Xavier Worthy is really really talented player.
- 1:37:57Speaker 5: I mean, I like them. I like a lot of
- 1:38:00Speaker 5: I like a lot of those wide receivers, but most
- 1:38:02Speaker 5: you know me, you guys fixate on the slot guys.
- 1:38:05Speaker 5: I like the playmakers.
- 1:38:07Speaker 1: I feel like you, and then I think that's enough
- 1:38:10Speaker 1: getting first downs, making a play.
- 1:38:11Speaker 16: So I was.
- 1:38:14Speaker 9: Xavior Worthy is like more like a Z. He's not
- 1:38:16Speaker 9: like that's your like Welker slot. He's more like Justin
- 1:38:20Speaker 9: Jefferson doesn't get any first That's right, Well, Justin Jefferson
- 1:38:23Speaker 9: plays the Z doesn't it doesn't make any play.
- 1:38:26Speaker 1: That's that's and that's what I think.
- 1:38:27Speaker 2: I mean, I don't know what the system.
- 1:38:28Speaker 9: Plays in the slot all the time. Yes, he's not
- 1:38:32Speaker 9: a slot receiver. He plays in the slot, Yes, but
- 1:38:35Speaker 9: he's not a slot receiver. It's not five two. Yeah,
- 1:38:37Speaker 9: xavior Worthy is more not that I'm not comparing him
- 1:38:40Speaker 9: to Justin Jefferson, but like the skill set and the
- 1:38:42Speaker 9: way he would be used is more like Justin Jeffers.
- 1:38:45Speaker 2: You need an every down guy, not a third down
- 1:38:47Speaker 2: slot receiver. Like it's fine, Pop, only a J.
- 1:38:50Speaker 5: Brown someday develops into a guy who can get you
- 1:38:52Speaker 5: a first down, right, then we'd.
- 1:38:53Speaker 9: Be I think ideal the guy, right, like ideally you
- 1:38:56Speaker 9: have Pop is really your what they would call your
- 1:38:59Speaker 9: f Like he's your pure slot not necessarily an X
- 1:39:03Speaker 9: or Z, but the pure slot in the three receiver sets.
- 1:39:06Speaker 9: And then exes to Higgins Z is a rookie or
- 1:39:08Speaker 9: something like that.
- 1:39:09Speaker 1: Is there a position for every letter in the alphabet?
- 1:39:12Speaker 16: No?
- 1:39:12Speaker 9: No, it just it just is, you know, in three
- 1:39:18Speaker 9: receiver sets, is your pure slot guy. And that doesn't
- 1:39:21Speaker 9: that go like go back to like flanker, Yeah, says.
- 1:39:27Speaker 5: Split d.
- 1:39:27Speaker 9: Absolutely Z is the move piece. He is your chest piece.
- 1:39:30Speaker 1: That's what you need.
- 1:39:33Speaker 5: No, because he plays off the line scrimmage to remember
- 1:39:36Speaker 5: it though.
- 1:39:36Speaker 2: He's going to be all over the place on this
- 1:39:38Speaker 2: way and that way, and then I'll even go back. Yeah.
- 1:39:39Speaker 9: Plays a little outside and a little inside.
- 1:39:42Speaker 5: That's what I want.
- 1:39:43Speaker 1: Anthony writes in there's a huge difference between Mike Rabel
- 1:39:46Speaker 1: as a coach and Bill as a head coach. Mike
- 1:39:48Speaker 1: is under fifty and may have the ability to adapt
- 1:39:51Speaker 1: in a justice coaching style.
- 1:39:52Speaker 5: Absolutely that Mike's point.
- 1:39:53Speaker 1: Bill is old and have proven time and again he
- 1:39:56Speaker 1: isn't willing to move off his old time seventies football
- 1:39:59Speaker 1: run and play dec He is who he is. He
- 1:40:01Speaker 1: isn't changing after all this time. He is an old,
- 1:40:04Speaker 1: stubborn man who doesn't change, and when forced, who finds
- 1:40:06Speaker 1: a way to make that what not work too. I'd
- 1:40:09Speaker 1: be willing to give Rabel a chance to show he
- 1:40:12Speaker 1: understands modern football and can adapt. I'm not willing to
- 1:40:15Speaker 1: see if Bill will.
- 1:40:16Speaker 5: It's a great email. Wow, that's a great email. That's
- 1:40:18Speaker 5: Mike's point.
- 1:40:21Speaker 1: Joe writes in First off, I love your show. I
- 1:40:24Speaker 1: grew up a season ticket holder, but haven't lived in
- 1:40:26Speaker 1: Madis since eighty six when I joined the Navy. Thank
- 1:40:28Speaker 1: you for your service. I now live in Virginia, but
- 1:40:31Speaker 1: I'm still one hundred percent of Pats fan. I'm a
- 1:40:33Speaker 1: first time caller, but a long time listener to all
- 1:40:35Speaker 1: your podcast I haven't heard anyone talk about Josh McDaniels
- 1:40:40Speaker 1: coming back and them keeping Mac Jones. Do you guys
- 1:40:43Speaker 1: think this is an option? I could see them drafting
- 1:40:46Speaker 1: an offensive tackle and a wide receiver as a priority,
- 1:40:49Speaker 1: and also signing an OT and wide receiver in the
- 1:40:51Speaker 1: off season with a better Mac and it's still working.
- 1:40:55Speaker 5: Oh god, I'm with you until the last three words working. Like,
- 1:41:01Speaker 5: I think it's a possibility that you bring Josh back
- 1:41:04Speaker 5: and he fits the suit, he's got the contract, you
- 1:41:07Speaker 5: give one more year. Yeah, I don't have any faith
- 1:41:10Speaker 5: it would work.
- 1:41:11Speaker 1: No, I'm with you too.
- 1:41:12Speaker 2: I can't. I can't rule it out. And I also
- 1:41:13Speaker 2: just even if it was a new guy like you,
- 1:41:17Speaker 2: would you have a quarterback in house? And like, I
- 1:41:19Speaker 2: totally agree with what you said, but like, we're just
- 1:41:21Speaker 2: not in a position where you're just casting guys off.
- 1:41:23Speaker 2: And if a guy comes in who really like Mac
- 1:41:25Speaker 2: Jones and said, look, this guy's had a tough go,
- 1:41:28Speaker 2: he needs to have the reset buttons reset I think
- 1:41:30Speaker 2: a lot of people think you're gonna ship him to
- 1:41:32Speaker 2: another team to let him reset. But if it's a
- 1:41:34Speaker 2: whole new offensive staff, could that be a reset? And look,
- 1:41:36Speaker 2: he doesn't win the job, you trade him in camp
- 1:41:38Speaker 2: something like that. Like I think I still think they
- 1:41:40Speaker 2: probably send him and let him get a fresh start elsewhere.
- 1:41:42Speaker 5: My failing is he'll want the fresh start. But you
- 1:41:45Speaker 5: absolutely could say, well, if Bill's gone, that represents the
- 1:41:48Speaker 5: fresh start for him.
- 1:41:49Speaker 2: Yeahah, you want to compete, we get a starting job open.
- 1:41:51Speaker 9: He spoke on locker room clean out Day, and I
- 1:41:55Speaker 9: thought that his comments were I thought he was holding
- 1:41:57Speaker 9: back quite a bit in his comments.
- 1:41:59Speaker 4: He's he he reminds me of Bill, and like he
- 1:42:03Speaker 4: just says a whole bunch of nothing. Like everything he
- 1:42:05Speaker 4: said was a bunch of quotes I can find.
- 1:42:06Speaker 9: On Google, Like it was a bunch of AI generation.
- 1:42:09Speaker 4: I find my best success after my lowest fall. It's
- 1:42:13Speaker 4: like I could find that on Google on Pincher's quotes,
- 1:42:16Speaker 4: Like everything he said was nothing to me.
- 1:42:18Speaker 5: Yep, But I I just think that about the eight
- 1:42:22Speaker 5: pounds of muscle.
- 1:42:23Speaker 9: Yeah, that was funny, the mac jones of it, Like
- 1:42:27Speaker 9: half weeks how it was. I just don't see there's
- 1:42:32Speaker 9: not enough there for me to be convinced that it
- 1:42:34Speaker 9: would ever work again, like Paul, Like, I just I
- 1:42:37Speaker 9: just can't see that happening. And I think that you
- 1:42:40Speaker 9: can delusion yourself into thinking that Marvin Harrison Junior and
- 1:42:43Speaker 9: a great tackle and this and that and everything, but
- 1:42:46Speaker 9: at the very least you're still talking about the Boe
- 1:42:49Speaker 9: Nicks JJ McCarthy second round pick quarterback right to like
- 1:42:54Speaker 9: head your bets a little bit, like you're not going
- 1:42:55Speaker 9: to go into next year with Mac Jones and Bailey
- 1:42:57Speaker 9: Zappy as your quarterback room.
- 1:42:59Speaker 1: You know, It's funny.
- 1:42:59Speaker 2: I look back at my notes from training camp and
- 1:43:02Speaker 2: did you know the very first eleven on eleven in
- 1:43:05Speaker 2: training camp that they did back through a pick to Dugger?
- 1:43:08Speaker 5: Like that was like, oh I remember that.
- 1:43:10Speaker 2: It's like, yeah, first drive of the season. Like it's
- 1:43:13Speaker 2: like so many times he makes turnas just right out
- 1:43:16Speaker 2: of the gate, right out of the game.
- 1:43:18Speaker 5: I just feel like, maybe it's not all his fault.
- 1:43:21Speaker 5: I'm willing to accept that, but I just think he's
- 1:43:24Speaker 5: He's shown you who he is many times, and people,
- 1:43:27Speaker 5: some people not a lot, some people refuse to just
- 1:43:31Speaker 5: believe what they've seen.
- 1:43:31Speaker 4: Yeah, they're still saying it's uncharacteristic.
- 1:43:33Speaker 9: It's a ceiling.
- 1:43:34Speaker 4: Pick six, is do I need to see before?
- 1:43:36Speaker 5: It's like, I think, if you give him the stuff
- 1:43:38Speaker 5: that Evan's talking about, he will be better. But there's
- 1:43:41Speaker 5: a ceiling to how much better? And to me, the
- 1:43:43Speaker 5: ceiling is the first half of twenty one.
- 1:43:47Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, Andrew another Navy vet, thank you for his service,
- 1:43:50Speaker 1: writes in I appreciate what Bill has done, and I
- 1:43:52Speaker 1: think he's a great coach. But is there a chance
- 1:43:55Speaker 1: that rather than the greatest head coach of all time,
- 1:43:57Speaker 1: he's the greatest defensive coordinator of all time happened to
- 1:44:00Speaker 1: also have Tom Brady. Just seems like it's been a
- 1:44:03Speaker 1: slow motion train wreck since Brady left, with bad decision
- 1:44:06Speaker 1: after bad decision.
- 1:44:07Speaker 9: No, I don't think that's possible. That's just me. I
- 1:44:11Speaker 9: think that that's really ignoring pretty much seventy five percent
- 1:44:16Speaker 9: of what Bill Belichick brought to the table here for
- 1:44:18Speaker 9: twenty four years. If you're just saying, ah, he brought
- 1:44:21Speaker 9: was being a really good defensive coach.
- 1:44:23Speaker 1: Joe writes in he's in Michigan. Bill is a very
- 1:44:26Speaker 1: intimidating and forceful man. What is happening is what has
- 1:44:30Speaker 1: been happening over twenty years. Bill is in charge and
- 1:44:33Speaker 1: deciding the future of the team. He is still the boss.
- 1:44:37Speaker 1: Imagine sitting across the table from him.
- 1:44:41Speaker 5: Yeah, it's a good point. Yeah, someone who's been on
- 1:44:44Speaker 5: the other side of the table. Well, that's why that's
- 1:44:47Speaker 5: a pretty accurate description.
- 1:44:48Speaker 2: Takes a billionaire.
- 1:44:49Speaker 1: So somebody sent me a quote from the late Pat Bowen,
- 1:44:52Speaker 1: who was the owner of the Broncos.
- 1:44:55Speaker 5: This one's and for John and the quote was about.
- 1:44:58Speaker 1: When he got rid of Dan Reeves and he said
- 1:45:01Speaker 1: that he wanted to get his team back. Yeah, you know,
- 1:45:05Speaker 1: he felt like he had lost control and that Dan
- 1:45:08Speaker 1: Reeves maybe had too much power.
- 1:45:10Speaker 2: He become the team.
- 1:45:11Speaker 9: Yeah, well Dan Reeves is just phenomenal to.
- 1:45:14Speaker 1: Certain so overrated.
- 1:45:16Speaker 5: Yeah, just kidding.
- 1:45:20Speaker 9: We were in Denver.
- 1:45:21Speaker 5: He was like, oh, do you see it? Do you
- 1:45:22Speaker 5: see it?
- 1:45:23Speaker 16: Up there?
- 1:45:23Speaker 9: We were all like what And He's like.
- 1:45:26Speaker 2: I showed restraint. But when I had the opportunity to
- 1:45:29Speaker 2: interview bergeron and Andrews, and Andrews was talking a little
- 1:45:32Speaker 2: bit about his uncle and his uncle get and of
- 1:45:34Speaker 2: course Aaron, who is a you know Dan Reeves file
- 1:45:37Speaker 2: uh standing there looking at us, and I was like,
- 1:45:40Speaker 2: do I call him out right now and bring up
- 1:45:42Speaker 2: Dan Reeves?
- 1:45:42Speaker 1: Who was?
- 1:45:43Speaker 5: And I didn't do it?
- 1:45:44Speaker 1: But Aaron's I mean you, why didn't you do it?
- 1:45:46Speaker 2: Like you wanted me to be? Like, oh, who's talking
- 1:45:48Speaker 2: about Dan?
- 1:45:48Speaker 1: Reason? Yeah, Aaron, Aaron loves him. Ryan at Colorado, he says,
- 1:45:52Speaker 1: you got interview, by the way, was Ryan And Colorado says,
- 1:45:58Speaker 1: you guys are missing the possibility that Bill will bring
- 1:46:01Speaker 1: back McDaniels to be the defensive court.
- 1:46:07Speaker 5: From a different Is that from Johnny south Beach? That
- 1:46:11Speaker 5: was right up his alley.
- 1:46:13Speaker 9: Let's go to Eldred.
- 1:46:14Speaker 1: What's up Eldred? Oh?
- 1:46:15Speaker 9: Aldred?
- 1:46:16Speaker 24: Hey, fellas, I'm gonna take my lump, but I still
- 1:46:21Speaker 24: would take it and do Yeah, like I said, man,
- 1:46:25Speaker 24: I love you. Why do you want to keep the
- 1:46:27Speaker 24: same treat with Braverel, Raverel or anybody else? I'm like, oh,
- 1:46:32Speaker 24: and Tamir, bring somebody's office of mind and get a quarterback.
- 1:46:36Speaker 24: Try to get one and just go to work, you know,
- 1:46:39Speaker 24: do it differently. You know, change is better and twenty
- 1:46:42Speaker 24: four years and this was great, but y'all keep like Evan,
- 1:46:45Speaker 24: I know you keep saying he's the greatest coach of
- 1:46:48Speaker 24: all time. He also had the greatest.
- 1:46:49Speaker 1: Play off all time.
- 1:46:50Speaker 24: And I'm gonna keep throwing that in there, because when
- 1:46:53Speaker 24: he left thing fell apart. Before he got him, things
- 1:46:56Speaker 24: were falling apart. So the middle is in the middle.
- 1:47:00Speaker 24: But like I said, I wish to do some because
- 1:47:03Speaker 24: the network they keep saying braveryl might come to New
- 1:47:07Speaker 24: England the head coach, and that would be a big mistake.
- 1:47:09Speaker 24: I think, So what do you all think.
- 1:47:12Speaker 5: I think it's a possibility.
- 1:47:13Speaker 2: I think it's possibility.
- 1:47:14Speaker 1: I don't. I don't know.
- 1:47:15Speaker 2: It's also just like, you know, getting so carried away
- 1:47:17Speaker 2: with with the offensive coach. It's like, you know, I've
- 1:47:19Speaker 2: heard nothing, but people call in and give Tom Brady
- 1:47:21Speaker 2: all the credit, you know, and it's like, can't you
- 1:47:24Speaker 2: get a player that can transcend who his offensive coordinator
- 1:47:26Speaker 2: is or who his coach is like?
- 1:47:28Speaker 5: And I would also say that just because he's a
- 1:47:30Speaker 5: defensive mind the point that Mike keeps making that's accurate.
- 1:47:33Speaker 5: This doesn't mean he can't put together a good offensive
- 1:47:35Speaker 5: staff and allow that offense to be different. I just
- 1:47:38Speaker 5: want I just want a different style of play. Yeah, Yeah,
- 1:47:42Speaker 5: that's all. I don't want someone who's trying to win
- 1:47:44Speaker 5: with defense, I hear it.
- 1:47:46Speaker 24: Yeah, yeah, one more question, one more question? Okay, yeah
- 1:47:50Speaker 24: about keeps saying bringing in a big dang. Okay, what's
- 1:47:53Speaker 24: wrong with Bill O'Brien And maybe maybe a Bill did
- 1:47:57Speaker 24: give him nut just didn't run just the net see it?
- 1:48:00Speaker 24: What about get him let him go? Could it be
- 1:48:03Speaker 24: even better? Is the coordinator?
- 1:48:07Speaker 5: Yeah, I'm not. I think that's on the time.
- 1:48:10Speaker 2: I'm not opposed to that. I I just think there
- 1:48:11Speaker 2: needs to be some changes because generally speaking with the
- 1:48:14Speaker 2: staff of the majority of it that stayed the same
- 1:48:16Speaker 2: over the last few years, it's looked the same as
- 1:48:18Speaker 2: far as player developments, the worst offense in football likely exactly.
- 1:48:22Speaker 24: So it's why would you keep them? Yeah?
- 1:48:25Speaker 9: I to the for me personally, the to the like
- 1:48:29Speaker 9: comfort level with the coaching tree and all that stuff.
- 1:48:31Speaker 9: That's more like coping because I just I just know
- 1:48:34Speaker 9: that they're not going to hire some random person that's
- 1:48:37Speaker 9: never been here before like I did.
- 1:48:39Speaker 5: It's just not going to happen like I.
- 1:48:40Speaker 9: I You're probably right, and so that's why I I've
- 1:48:43Speaker 9: just Okay, well, what's who's my favorite out of the
- 1:48:46Speaker 9: guys that I know are on the list. Like last
- 1:48:49Speaker 9: year with the offensive coordinator thing, was Bill O'Brien really
- 1:48:52Speaker 9: the best guy for the job or did we just
- 1:48:54Speaker 9: all know that that's who was going to be because
- 1:48:56Speaker 9: of the ties to the organization. And I feel the
- 1:48:58Speaker 9: same way about head coach. Like as much as I
- 1:49:00Speaker 9: want to sit here and pound the table for Ben
- 1:49:02Speaker 9: Johnson or pound the table for Bobby Slowick, which would
- 1:49:05Speaker 9: be Paul's thing, which would be different and innovative and
- 1:49:08Speaker 9: all that stuff, like, I just I don't think they'll
- 1:49:11Speaker 9: do it.
- 1:49:11Speaker 1: I think there are planes taking off above us Bill
- 1:49:15Speaker 1: and San Diego. Why the hell would anyone be in
- 1:49:18Speaker 1: on Mike Rabel. Paul literally said it. Tennessee is basically
- 1:49:21Speaker 1: the same team as New England right now, So why
- 1:49:23Speaker 1: the hell would Rabel bring any more success here than
- 1:49:26Speaker 1: he did there. It's absolute insanity. The game has changed,
- 1:49:30Speaker 1: It's time to change the way we do business in
- 1:49:32Speaker 1: that building. You can subm in Mayo's name here too,
- 1:49:35Speaker 1: by the way.
- 1:49:36Speaker 5: Yeah, but how do we know how Mayo coaches? Yeah?
- 1:49:39Speaker 9: From what I've heard that Mayo is not like people
- 1:49:42Speaker 9: have the wrong idea of Like I feel like people say.
- 1:49:44Speaker 5: This NBC Sports Boston guys, No, is that what they said? Yeah,
- 1:49:48Speaker 5: they go to great Lands to tell you how different
- 1:49:50Speaker 5: he is. I don't know.
- 1:49:53Speaker 9: I just you know, before the season ended, I figured
- 1:49:55Speaker 9: that Mayo might be the next guy. So I went
- 1:49:57Speaker 9: around the locker room and asked a bunch of the
- 1:49:58Speaker 9: guys just about Mayo, and all of them, like so
- 1:50:02Speaker 9: many of them use the words players, coach, like I could.
- 1:50:05Speaker 9: I probably talked to ten guys and eight of them
- 1:50:08Speaker 9: use the words players, coach and relatable and you know
- 1:50:13Speaker 9: that he's been here before like himself, so he can
- 1:50:16Speaker 9: he can relate on that level and just so much
- 1:50:19Speaker 9: like a softer personality than Bill.
- 1:50:22Speaker 1: Like.
- 1:50:22Speaker 9: I just don't think that maybe their mindset of football
- 1:50:25Speaker 9: and like x's and o's and stuff like that might
- 1:50:27Speaker 9: be the same or might be aligned, but in terms
- 1:50:30Speaker 9: of the personality, I truly do think that they're different people.
- 1:50:33Speaker 1: Alex and Raleigh North Carolina Happy first off season show.
- 1:50:37Speaker 1: I'm gonna put a name to the claim that I
- 1:50:39Speaker 1: don't want JJ McCarthy because he is Max Jones two
- 1:50:43Speaker 1: point zero. No, thanks, get us a quarterback that can
- 1:50:46Speaker 1: move Daniels Pennix Williams when it was a high ceiling.
- 1:50:49Speaker 1: This is gonna be an interesting offseason. I think Bill
- 1:50:51Speaker 1: will end up coming back after everything. Paul is one
- 1:50:54Speaker 1: hundred percent right, he said, if we collectively agree. He
- 1:50:57Speaker 1: laid out everything in his Monday monologue. It was a
- 1:51:00Speaker 1: very pointed speech. Since it's the offseason for any new
- 1:51:03Speaker 1: invention ideas, we want to workshop this offseason something we'll
- 1:51:07Speaker 1: have time for that. We'll have time for that.
- 1:51:09Speaker 5: Yeah, McCarthy can move Okay, By the way, I do
- 1:51:13Speaker 5: think the comparison to Mac is similar. I don't think
- 1:51:17Speaker 5: that he was I don't think he was needed to
- 1:51:19Speaker 5: do a whole lot with a team that was really,
- 1:51:21Speaker 5: really talented. And some people have said and Evan would
- 1:51:24Speaker 5: know more about this than I would. I think Harbaugh
- 1:51:26Speaker 5: has been quoted as saying they will break the record
- 1:51:28Speaker 5: for the amount of drafted players on this team.
- 1:51:30Speaker 9: It's possible. I mean, maybe not this year, but like
- 1:51:34Speaker 9: the team, yeah, of the next couple with McCarthy, though
- 1:51:38Speaker 9: his skill set's much much different from Max. I agree
- 1:51:41Speaker 9: he's more toolsy than Mac Jones was, but way less accurate.
- 1:51:45Speaker 5: And better arm and definitely better athletics.
- 1:51:47Speaker 9: Yeah, but not as pure as a processor as Mac
- 1:51:50Speaker 9: Jones is. I actually think if you want to make
- 1:51:53Speaker 9: a comp like to Ma, like Pennix is on, it
- 1:51:56Speaker 9: is not that far off, I would say, in some
- 1:51:58Speaker 9: respects from what Mac was in college.
- 1:52:01Speaker 1: Elder just crashed and I don't know another much.
- 1:52:04Speaker 9: Better better arm, better arm for sure, but even last
- 1:52:08Speaker 9: night when it's off platform, it didn't look that much better.
- 1:52:11Speaker 5: I don't think. I don't think he's a great runner.
- 1:52:13Speaker 9: Great, yeah, but he's not a mobile guy. He's not
- 1:52:16Speaker 9: a great mover in the pocket. And uh and you
- 1:52:19Speaker 9: know he's propped up by Romadonsay and Polk and Mitchell
- 1:52:24Speaker 9: and three top one hundred wide receivers. Like there's there's
- 1:52:28Speaker 9: some comps there too. That was my whole thing with
- 1:52:30Speaker 9: Eldrid last week was I got to see him against
- 1:52:32Speaker 9: Michigan first, because maybe it is just that Roma Dunsay
- 1:52:36Speaker 9: is that much better than the cornerbacks on Texas and
- 1:52:39Speaker 9: he's just out there making making plays and that sort
- 1:52:42Speaker 9: of what happened last night.
- 1:52:45Speaker 1: So Deuce, it's gotten around that you don't like McDonald's
- 1:52:48Speaker 1: at all.
- 1:52:50Speaker 5: He hasn't been in like twenty years.
- 1:52:51Speaker 1: Jacob from Nashville says, I love duce, but can't trust
- 1:52:54Speaker 1: anyone who doesn't eat McDonald's. Check his basement.
- 1:52:57Speaker 9: You don't like McDonald's.
- 1:52:59Speaker 2: Not that I don't like it, I just I don't
- 1:53:01Speaker 2: eat there.
- 1:53:01Speaker 4: Well, the bigger problem is his kids are scared of it.
- 1:53:05Speaker 1: That might we did.
- 1:53:06Speaker 2: We did instill the fear of McDonald's and my kids,
- 1:53:09Speaker 2: not really purposely.
- 1:53:09Speaker 9: But because of like nutrition reasons or no, we just.
- 1:53:12Speaker 1: Never really went there.
- 1:53:13Speaker 5: And I don't know because of the clown. Then the
- 1:53:15Speaker 5: clown did.
- 1:53:16Speaker 2: Scare me not But look, I'm gonna do it sometime
- 1:53:21Speaker 2: this off season. I'll go at lunching. I'll get while
- 1:53:23Speaker 2: crushing McChicken sandwich free. Also you know that that I'm okay?
- 1:53:26Speaker 5: So you know number one bigger nugs big. I'll do
- 1:53:29Speaker 5: a big nug too.
- 1:53:31Speaker 9: I think the fries and McDonald's are still one one.
- 1:53:33Speaker 5: I do like.
- 1:53:34Speaker 9: I like Chick fil A has got good fries too,
- 1:53:37Speaker 9: fast food fries.
- 1:53:38Speaker 2: I think there's still the I still love in and
- 1:53:40Speaker 2: out fries so well that doesn't count, I know, but
- 1:53:43Speaker 2: I love them.
- 1:53:44Speaker 1: Dan of Virginia and Michigan, he says Pennix's stock is rising.
- 1:53:49Speaker 1: It might be against conventional wisdom. But after last night's game,
- 1:53:52Speaker 1: I think Pennix would be the perfect quarterback for the Patriots,
- 1:53:55Speaker 1: given the performance of Washington's old line against Michigan, the
- 1:53:58Speaker 1: situation that the Patriots should be all too familiar for Pennies.
- 1:54:01Speaker 1: Looks like he has a strong arm too. By the
- 1:54:04Speaker 1: time he was done running backwards away from the Michigan defense,
- 1:54:06Speaker 1: and every play, every pass he made was a downfield
- 1:54:09Speaker 1: throw just to get back to the line of scrimmage.
- 1:54:12Speaker 1: So that's a little sarcast it's not funny. Williams in
- 1:54:18Speaker 1: philam what's up? Will? What's up? All right? All right,
- 1:54:24Speaker 1: all right?
- 1:54:24Speaker 24: Just three questions that the show about dance just.
- 1:54:29Speaker 22: And one for Paul.
- 1:54:35Speaker 11: Look.
- 1:54:36Speaker 7: I like Williams May and also Dames. But why is
- 1:54:39Speaker 7: so much push back on Drake May.
- 1:54:43Speaker 5: I like Drake May.
- 1:54:45Speaker 16: You dreams?
- 1:54:45Speaker 5: Okay, Yeah, I like Drake. I think Drake Drake May
- 1:54:48Speaker 5: has a little Josh Allen in him. Now you could say,
- 1:54:50Speaker 5: like that's good or bad.
- 1:54:51Speaker 1: But doesn't he also have the most unknown because of competition.
- 1:54:57Speaker 9: I guess you could look at it that way.
- 1:54:59Speaker 5: I mean, I you played in the a CEC. It's
- 1:55:01Speaker 5: not like he played like Tennessee Chattanooga and he was
- 1:55:04Speaker 5: a one year starter.
- 1:55:05Speaker 9: Right, no, no, no, no to your starter. But I
- 1:55:08Speaker 9: agree with you that the AEC the ACC.
- 1:55:10Speaker 5: Is not as good as the SEC in the Big ten.
- 1:55:11Speaker 5: I don't think that this year the PAC twelve was
- 1:55:15Speaker 5: maybe better than all.
- 1:55:16Speaker 9: Of them, well except the champion apparently right now.
- 1:55:19Speaker 5: But that's one team. But I like Drake May. I
- 1:55:24Speaker 5: mean I wouldn't be a no on Drake May.
- 1:55:26Speaker 1: I wouldn't either.
- 1:55:26Speaker 7: But I'm not allowed to answer this, all right, I'm
- 1:55:30Speaker 7: just the last two crunch five minutes. Sorry, How did
- 1:55:33Speaker 7: you feel about the Michigan running backs and what would
- 1:55:35Speaker 7: you do with the number three pick?
- 1:55:38Speaker 9: Okay, okay, I feel like you're trolling me with the
- 1:55:41Speaker 9: Michigan running backs because this is it. I knew you were.
- 1:55:44Speaker 9: I knew you were because this is a catch twenty
- 1:55:46Speaker 9: two thing that I refuse to talk about running backs.
- 1:55:50Speaker 9: I refuse, no, no, And you do running backs on
- 1:55:53Speaker 9: your own time, like if the Patriots touch a running
- 1:55:56Speaker 9: back in the top one fifty, I will be pissed, like,
- 1:55:58Speaker 9: don't know.
- 1:55:59Speaker 1: No, no, If Christian McCaffrey for Stanford was available, you
- 1:56:02Speaker 1: wouldn't talk about.
- 1:56:03Speaker 9: No, because I'm if they take him a third three overall,
- 1:56:06Speaker 9: then we're we're screwed, Like you might as well just
- 1:56:08Speaker 9: pick next year top three again, like why don't we
- 1:56:11Speaker 9: just keep picking in the top three if you want
- 1:56:12Speaker 9: to pick as such as that don't matter.
- 1:56:15Speaker 14: No, definitely not Like.
- 1:56:17Speaker 9: Okay, well so there, so Blake Koram is going to
- 1:56:20Speaker 9: go in the top one hundred, probably in the somewhere
- 1:56:22Speaker 9: in the third round.
- 1:56:23Speaker 5: I would say player for somebody. Yeah, the other back.
- 1:56:27Speaker 9: Might be more in there in that like fourth and
- 1:56:30Speaker 9: fifth round territory that they could get him early day
- 1:56:32Speaker 9: three Edwards yep, and maybe maybe that would be doable.
- 1:56:37Speaker 9: But yeah, I've not taken any running backs before the
- 1:56:39Speaker 9: fourth round. If I'm the Patriots, I can see the
- 1:56:41Speaker 9: need like in general, but if a third overall pick,
- 1:56:46Speaker 9: I am starting to come around. But to to Jayden Daniels,
- 1:56:50Speaker 9: maybe that's also coping for the fact that they're going
- 1:56:52Speaker 9: to miss the two first two guys. So that's kind
- 1:56:55Speaker 9: of the guy that's left at the table. But I
- 1:56:57Speaker 9: really do like a lot of things about the idea
- 1:57:00Speaker 9: of Jaden Daniels and find like you want to modernize
- 1:57:03Speaker 9: the offense, like finally get somebody that can play eleven
- 1:57:05Speaker 9: on eleven and run around a bit.
- 1:57:07Speaker 1: I mean, I know we'll know before then, but I
- 1:57:09Speaker 1: would just be more comfortable knowing who's going to be
- 1:57:12Speaker 1: Jade and Daniels coach, and what kind of offense.
- 1:57:15Speaker 9: He's going to be yeah, you know, running, yeah, and
- 1:57:18Speaker 9: all that stuff, because he does have you know, some
- 1:57:20Speaker 9: processing issues. I seen you know, things in the middle
- 1:57:24Speaker 9: of the field. No, I don't think he'll be one
- 1:57:28Speaker 9: hundred percent ready. I think that every single quarterback. The
- 1:57:30Speaker 9: way I look at it right now is all all
- 1:57:32Speaker 9: these guys every there's no perfect prospects, so all of
- 1:57:35Speaker 9: them have flaws, and so I guess the question really
- 1:57:38Speaker 9: is is like which flaws do you care the least about?
- 1:57:41Speaker 9: You know, a guy like Caleb Williams, he wants to
- 1:57:43Speaker 9: hold the ball and run around and create extended plays,
- 1:57:46Speaker 9: and he's got a ton of fumbles in Sackson College
- 1:57:49Speaker 9: as a result. Drake may is Josh Allen, Like, I
- 1:57:52Speaker 9: think that's a really nice comp coming out of Wyoming
- 1:57:55Speaker 9: that sometimes the ball just is all over the place,
- 1:57:58Speaker 9: Like he'll just throw these back that are ten yards
- 1:58:01Speaker 9: over the guy's head and you're just like whoa, Like,
- 1:58:03Speaker 9: where did that come from. And then Jaden Daniels I
- 1:58:05Speaker 9: think is a little bit of a developmental project as
- 1:58:08Speaker 9: a passer right now. So which one do you want
- 1:58:10Speaker 9: to work with?
- 1:58:11Speaker 2: That's what's well, that's what I kind of find myself
- 1:58:13Speaker 2: not wanting to work with. Is trying to develop a
- 1:58:15Speaker 2: guy who's a great athlete and teach him how to
- 1:58:17Speaker 2: throw like that. Just generally, that to me seems like
- 1:58:19Speaker 2: a huge ask. I would rather just go with a
- 1:58:22Speaker 2: guy who at least can throw and can run a
- 1:58:24Speaker 2: little bit, then have to get a guy and teach
- 1:58:27Speaker 2: him how to pass.
- 1:58:28Speaker 9: So I would say that Jaden Daniels' issues as a
- 1:58:30Speaker 9: passer are more mental, Like physically, I think he's got
- 1:58:34Speaker 9: really consistent release point and like really does well with
- 1:58:37Speaker 9: his mechanics for the most part. Drake May, I'd be
- 1:58:40Speaker 9: more concerned about his footwork and his antsying this a
- 1:58:43Speaker 9: little bit with his feet than that. But is his
- 1:58:46Speaker 9: own thing, like Caleb just does it different.
- 1:58:48Speaker 5: He's got the Mahome stuff.
- 1:58:49Speaker 2: Yeah, But I almost mean it more of like philosophically,
- 1:58:52Speaker 2: like is this guy going into a game saying I'm
- 1:58:54Speaker 2: going to beat them with my arm or is this
- 1:58:56Speaker 2: guy going to go into the game and say I'm
- 1:58:58Speaker 2: going to run.
- 1:58:59Speaker 5: Can I change parameters a little bit? You said you
- 1:59:02Speaker 5: don't want a guy that runs around that that he
- 1:59:06Speaker 5: can't throw, And then you said, I'd rather have a
- 1:59:09Speaker 5: guy who can run a little bit and throw. Well,
- 1:59:11Speaker 5: just would you, reckondary, would you rather have a guy
- 1:59:14Speaker 5: that is a great pocket passer but he can't run,
- 1:59:18Speaker 5: or a guy who can run but is a project
- 1:59:20Speaker 5: throw don't say, because everybody would rather have the guy
- 1:59:23Speaker 5: who's a great passer who can also run a little
- 1:59:25Speaker 5: bit when needed.
- 1:59:26Speaker 2: I totally hear what you're saying.
- 1:59:27Speaker 5: And let's take let's make a mac Jones and say
- 1:59:30Speaker 5: that he's just a pocket guy and he can't run.
- 1:59:33Speaker 2: Then I'd lean towards the mac Jones. As much as
- 1:59:35Speaker 2: we've seen those words.
- 1:59:36Speaker 5: I would lean toward the Jayden Daniels. I'll teach him
- 1:59:39Speaker 5: how to throw. He can make plays to get himself
- 1:59:41Speaker 5: out of it.
- 1:59:41Speaker 2: And I don't have ready examples off the top of
- 1:59:43Speaker 2: my head though. But like other than Lamar, who have
- 1:59:45Speaker 2: been the great runners that have really settled into to be.
- 1:59:49Speaker 5: We're just figuring it out right. I think Jalen hurts
- 1:59:51Speaker 5: when he came out of the I watched Jalen Hurts
- 1:59:53Speaker 5: a lot in college, and I never would have guessed
- 1:59:56Speaker 5: he could throw the ball as well as he has
- 1:59:57Speaker 5: in the NFL.
- 1:59:58Speaker 9: Yeah, I think you can do it.
- 2:00:00Speaker 5: I think.
- 2:00:00Speaker 9: I think a big thing that you see with Jaden
- 2:00:02Speaker 9: Daniels is that he'll have guys open on the field
- 2:00:06Speaker 9: and opt to run, and sometimes he'll like pass up
- 2:00:10Speaker 9: a crossing route that's open that would probably gain fifteen
- 2:00:13Speaker 9: yards and he scores a fifty yard touchdown with his legs.
- 2:00:16Speaker 9: So it's like, do you fault him for passing up
- 2:00:18Speaker 9: the crosser when he knows that he can that he's
- 2:00:21Speaker 9: going to have to figure out that he ain't running
- 2:00:22Speaker 9: for fifty yard touchdowns, right, because you know, teams will
- 2:00:25Speaker 9: play man coverage down the field, nobody's on the quarterback,
- 2:00:27Speaker 9: and then here comes your your quarterback, you know, just
- 2:00:30Speaker 9: running Like against Florida, he had like two hundred yards
- 2:00:33Speaker 9: rushing on that you know in Alabama.
- 2:00:35Speaker 5: It's like a city game, yeah Florida, Yeah, And like
- 2:00:38Speaker 5: you know, it's.
- 2:00:38Speaker 9: The same thing. It's just like he's passing up reads
- 2:00:41Speaker 9: down the field, yes, but he's passing them up to
- 2:00:45Speaker 9: run all over the place and it's like, which one
- 2:00:47Speaker 9: would you rather? I think with Drake may he has
- 2:00:50Speaker 9: consistency issues as a as a thrower, but he's more
- 2:00:54Speaker 9: you can tell that he's like his processes is smarter,
- 2:00:57Speaker 9: Like he can tell that he's he's understanding. Okay, if
- 2:01:00Speaker 9: I look over here and pump there, and then that's
- 2:01:02Speaker 9: gonna move this guy. And then I'm gonna come back
- 2:01:03Speaker 9: to this throw and I'm gonna hit it here, buddy,
- 2:01:06Speaker 9: the ball is just ball placements more inconsistent.
- 2:01:08Speaker 2: So that's what I've liked about Drake Mayon a little
- 2:01:10Speaker 2: bit i've watched him so far, just that he does
- 2:01:12Speaker 2: have that athleticism, you know, the run for it, but
- 2:01:14Speaker 2: not so much that his mind is kind of poisoned
- 2:01:16Speaker 2: into thinking like that's the first thought to run. I mean,
- 2:01:20Speaker 2: I know there's a million ways to skin a cat, but.
- 2:01:22Speaker 1: All right, that's especially that's why this is why you're
