- 1:07Speaker 6: So I saw this list that The New York Times did,
- 1:10Speaker 6: I don't think I brought it in with me. Of
- 1:12Speaker 6: the top thirty living songwriters. Uh, and they said, by design,
- 1:19Speaker 6: we took all genres of music.
- 1:23Speaker 4: As a result, they were about ten of them I never.
- 1:25Speaker 6: Heard of before, you know, And there were so which
- 1:29Speaker 6: means there ten or twelve that aren't on the list
- 1:31Speaker 6: that that should have been.
- 1:32Speaker 4: But you know, they just they do that now. None
- 1:36Speaker 4: of us. I get the fact.
- 1:37Speaker 6: None of us got into this business to talk about
- 1:43Speaker 6: budgets and money.
- 1:45Speaker 4: Right. We liked sports, we liked the games.
- 1:50Speaker 6: It's really hard this day and age not to talk
- 1:54Speaker 6: about money, unfortunately, and that's taken some of the fun
- 1:59Speaker 6: for me out of sports.
- 2:00Speaker 4: I don't know about you. I don't know. Let me
- 2:02Speaker 4: check my agents see if I can answer.
- 2:05Speaker 2: Well, it's taken a lot out of college athletics, for sure.
- 2:09Speaker 6: So the reason I bring this up is because Kyle
- 2:12Speaker 6: Wettingham says today there's gonna be twelve to fifteen programs
- 2:16Speaker 6: with a fifty million dollar budget in twenty twenty seven,
- 2:21Speaker 6: he said, And he said, not many people can handle that.
- 2:25Speaker 6: There aren't many programs that can compete with that. And
- 2:29Speaker 6: until we get a handle on it, I don't know
- 2:31Speaker 6: what's going to happen. We've said that repeatedly but remember, well,
- 2:36Speaker 6: I guess he didn't say.
- 2:37Speaker 4: I guess it was asked. I'm sure was it two
- 2:40Speaker 4: years ago?
- 2:41Speaker 6: Ohio say that the twenty two million dollar budget when
- 2:44Speaker 6: they won the national title, and everybody said, that's just outrageous,
- 2:48Speaker 6: it's outrageous.
- 2:49Speaker 4: We can't compete with that. And now it's fifty million. Okay,
- 2:53Speaker 4: So I don't I don't know where that stops.
- 2:57Speaker 6: I don't again, I don't like to talk about it,
- 3:00Speaker 6: and I just like to watch the game.
- 3:02Speaker 2: The game is more popular than ever it is in
- 3:04Speaker 2: terms of people turning on TV sets now.
- 3:07Speaker 4: But it's gonna cost rusty.
- 3:09Speaker 6: We know that in the not too distant future, it
- 3:13Speaker 6: will cost you to see a big football game in college.
- 3:16Speaker 2: Yeah, absolutely will right, Well, yeah, it already does. I
- 3:19Speaker 2: mean I understand that you know, A and M went
- 3:22Speaker 2: up in basketball tickets last year. They're probably gonna go
- 3:24Speaker 2: up again because they were just recruited. And I will
- 3:28Speaker 2: buy them. Yeah, because I've been invested in this program.
- 3:32Speaker 4: Yes, you put an investment in there.
- 3:33Speaker 2: And so you know, I gave up the football tickets
- 3:37Speaker 2: a long time ago. But yeah, I'm gonna buy them,
- 3:39Speaker 2: and I'm not paying nil money. But I mean, I
- 3:43Speaker 2: know a whole bunch of guys who are and they're
- 3:47Speaker 2: they're invested in it. So it's hard on one hand.
- 3:51Speaker 2: You know, I used to love the draft because especially
- 3:54Speaker 2: when Aggie's were getting picked in the draft. I mean,
- 3:57Speaker 2: we had a record set a number of Aggies picked
- 3:59Speaker 2: in the and I didn't care because I didn't I
- 4:02Speaker 2: didn't have an attachment to them because most of them
- 4:05Speaker 2: have only been there for like.
- 4:07Speaker 4: Y two years. So it is professional because we've said that.
- 4:11Speaker 6: I've said that for years when we when we grew up,
- 4:16Speaker 6: I knew Bob Lily was going to be a Dallas cowboy, right.
- 4:20Speaker 4: I knew he wasn't going anywhere.
- 4:22Speaker 6: I knew Roger Staubach wasn't going anywhere, right, Uh, they.
- 4:26Speaker 4: Were, they were cease. You would say the same about
- 4:29Speaker 4: the Steelers, Joe, thank you, Joe Green. You knew they
- 4:36Speaker 4: weren't going anywhere practice one day that somebody wanted to meet, right,
- 4:40Speaker 4: I mean.
- 4:41Speaker 6: Those guys were your team, right, Rusty Nolan Ryan, Now
- 4:47Speaker 6: he came along in free agency, so but Pod Rodriguez
- 4:52Speaker 6: he eventually left, but still those were our guys. And
- 4:56Speaker 6: now it's like, well, they may be here a year
- 4:58Speaker 6: or two years have been in how they're to.
- 5:01Speaker 2: Me, I've said it's worse than pro sports because at
- 5:03Speaker 2: least the the you know, those guys that you associate
- 5:07Speaker 2: with sign a long term contract. Like Okay, so I'm
- 5:11Speaker 2: a huge I grew up, grew up in Dallas, what
- 5:13Speaker 2: Worth like you did, Chip, And I went to the
- 5:15Speaker 2: first Mavericks game ever played. So guess who my all
- 5:17Speaker 2: time favorite Maverick is. It's Dirk Yeah, I mean he
- 5:20Speaker 2: was the one guy he played for one team?
- 5:22Speaker 4: Yeah right, yeah?
- 5:24Speaker 2: And you know.
- 5:25Speaker 4: Whoever heard of that's a old fashion it is.
- 5:28Speaker 2: And like Lebron, you think about how how many teams
- 5:31Speaker 2: did he play for? Yeah, he's great longevity, but you
- 5:34Speaker 2: think about it's the Calves, it's the Heat, it's the Lakers.
- 5:38Speaker 2: I mean, and so many of these guys, even like show, Hey,
- 5:41Speaker 2: who's probably maybe the best baseball player in the history
- 5:44Speaker 2: of the game.
- 5:45Speaker 4: Yeah, and Lebron is college judge but.
- 5:49Speaker 2: So yeah, but I mean, he's you think of him
- 5:53Speaker 2: what I think of him as a Dodger now, I
- 5:55Speaker 2: guess because he's wearing the Dodger in uniform and he's
- 5:57Speaker 2: one World Series with the Dodgers and never won. Along
- 6:00Speaker 2: with the Angels. You know, I don't know, it's I
- 6:04Speaker 2: hated it, but but you.
- 6:05Speaker 4: Just mentioned that.
- 6:06Speaker 6: I mean, that's that's where we are with college right.
- 6:08Speaker 6: It's worth it, Yeah, because these guys are coming in
- 6:11Speaker 6: every year.
- 6:12Speaker 2: Yeah. Do you don't have a Casey concepcion as a Maggie,
- 6:16Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 6:17Speaker 4: I don't know. Getting back to what he's maybe he's
- 6:19Speaker 4: started here one year he started. It's all about college football,
- 6:23Speaker 4: and I think right now, until they get some kind
- 6:26Speaker 4: of parameters, there's no stealing because everybody wants to win.
- 6:30Speaker 4: And if you're at LSU and if you're an Auburn,
- 6:33Speaker 4: and if you're a high state, you will pay whatever
- 6:35Speaker 4: it takes to make that final twelve or final sixteen
- 6:39Speaker 4: in college football. I don't think there's any doubt those
- 6:41Speaker 4: programs will pay whatever it takes.
- 6:43Speaker 2: Well, those those big money programs will And I've said
- 6:47Speaker 2: a long time ago that instead of Texas, you know,
- 6:50Speaker 2: obviously Texas Tech has stepped up, right, Yep, I didn't.
- 6:53Speaker 2: I didn't see that coming. Who did, right? But I
- 6:56Speaker 2: mean I knew that this was gonna benefit of A
- 6:57Speaker 2: and M in Texas because praying them Now they're put
- 7:01Speaker 2: they're putting more graduates out than any other school and
- 7:03Speaker 2: in the state, almost any other school in the country.
- 7:06Speaker 2: And so the more that this happens, there's gonna be.
- 7:10Speaker 4: More, no limit.
- 7:11Speaker 2: Yeah, well, there's gonna be more prospects to give back
- 7:14Speaker 2: to the university, right.
- 7:15Speaker 4: I see more more multi millionaire. I see Marymount putting
- 7:18Speaker 4: an extra maybe a second floor or third floor. You
- 7:22Speaker 4: might need more more more.
- 7:24Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, room, we can expand at mermat It's exactly right.
- 7:29Speaker 4: You know. Is it bad? Is it good? I mean,
- 7:32Speaker 4: I don't know. I mean I get it. I'm from
- 7:33Speaker 4: a different generation, and it's all about winning. You if
- 7:36Speaker 4: you were at Miami A and M football last year,
- 7:39Speaker 4: if I ain't, E would have won that. I mean,
- 7:41Speaker 4: oh my gosh, you're going to Dallas. The reason I
- 7:44Speaker 4: brought this up is because.
- 7:47Speaker 6: The budget athletic budget, you know, has been released, okay,
- 7:52Speaker 6: and and they're going to that doesn't include.
- 7:54Speaker 2: In IL, does it.
- 7:56Speaker 6: It does not include in I L it's it's it's
- 7:59Speaker 6: it's the budget for the athletic department.
- 8:01Speaker 2: Okay, Okay.
- 8:02Speaker 6: So they have come up with a seven point two
- 8:07Speaker 6: million dollar loss for twenty six and four and a
- 8:11Speaker 6: half million dollar loss for twenty seven and the idea
- 8:17Speaker 6: I heard one of the regents on the news this
- 8:19Speaker 6: morning saying, look, we're going to have to make that
- 8:21Speaker 6: up from somewhere and they'll they'll probably get somebody to
- 8:25Speaker 6: write a check, I guess, but.
- 8:28Speaker 4: Beds will come back. Well I'm getting there too.
- 8:32Speaker 6: But you know, when you start looking at ideas like
- 8:36Speaker 6: a budget deficit, we've seen what that does around here.
- 8:41Speaker 4: You know you can't do that in.
- 8:44Speaker 2: Perpetuity, right, you can't fire Jimbo with that long a contract, right, Yes.
- 8:50Speaker 4: You can't do it. Maybe that was a bad idea,
- 8:52Speaker 4: I think.
- 8:53Speaker 2: Who knows. Yeah, I mean, here's the deal that somebody
- 8:56Speaker 2: will write the check cover that you said a seven
- 8:59Speaker 2: million dollars loss.
- 9:01Speaker 4: Seven million projected this year in four and a half billion, Yeah, day,
- 9:05Speaker 4: so much.
- 9:06Speaker 2: They can find a couple of folks that write that check.
- 9:09Speaker 4: All right, you might got to McDonald's drive to and
- 9:11Speaker 4: get that.
- 9:12Speaker 2: No, but I know who I would go to first.
- 9:14Speaker 2: You know, there's there's a there's a hand rule.
- 9:16Speaker 4: It's not it's not.
- 9:18Speaker 2: No, there's a handful of folks I'd be calling first.
- 9:21Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, yeah, And.
- 9:22Speaker 2: So yeah, there's there's some very, very successful at he's
- 9:25Speaker 2: out there, and.
- 9:26Speaker 4: Like I said, it's it's it's well. The way the
- 9:28Speaker 4: game's playing.
- 9:28Speaker 2: Right now, that's just the way it is well.
- 9:31Speaker 4: And how many can play it, that's the question.
- 9:34Speaker 2: I think A and M can play I'm sure, I'm not.
- 9:36Speaker 4: I'm not suggesting they can't.
- 9:37Speaker 2: I don't think Baylor can play it. I don't think
- 9:39Speaker 2: you can play it. I don't think most of these schools.
- 9:43Speaker 2: I think A M and Texas Houston can't do it.
- 9:46Speaker 4: No, but obviously Texas Tech might. But here's what interesting is.
- 9:49Speaker 4: I went with how long can I do it?
- 9:50Speaker 2: Though?
- 9:51Speaker 4: I went with my I had lunch with my college
- 9:54Speaker 4: buddy last two weeks ago now and he helps fundraise
- 9:59Speaker 4: for he's in A Monroe and he was telling me
- 10:02Speaker 4: the stories about how bad those kind of programs were. Oh,
- 10:05Speaker 4: I can't imagine, and you can imagine. I don't know
- 10:08Speaker 4: where they're going to go in the future because the
- 10:11Speaker 4: Ohio States in A and M's they need somebody to
- 10:13Speaker 4: beat I mean even I, you know, you need someone
- 10:15Speaker 4: to beat up. And I don't know, don't know what
- 10:17Speaker 4: they're going to get their money.
- 10:19Speaker 2: It's going to be some version of pro football. It'll
- 10:21Speaker 2: be forty fifty teams, correct, and they'll be separate from
- 10:26Speaker 2: all other sports. Yes, and it'll it'll be a version.
- 10:32Speaker 4: Of pro football.
- 10:33Speaker 2: Yes, I mean that's what it'll be.
- 10:35Speaker 4: I bet you. I think I'll have divisions. Yeah, but
- 10:37Speaker 4: right now, let's be honest. The President's Universe and chancellors
- 10:41Speaker 4: still want to steal like it's amateur sports. You know,
- 10:44Speaker 4: they still want that. I don't know.
- 10:45Speaker 6: I haven't heard that season, But I don't know how
- 10:47Speaker 6: they can do. I have not heard that in a
- 10:48Speaker 6: long time. And I tell you what else. We haven't
- 10:51Speaker 6: heard from here to the West coast to the East coast.
- 10:56Speaker 6: We haven't heard from any presidents or chancellors since all
- 10:59Speaker 6: this stuff starts.
- 11:00Speaker 4: It now, we haven't heard anybody pulling there.
- 11:02Speaker 6: How, we haven't heard anybody coming in with suggestions about
- 11:06Speaker 6: how they're going to rain this in.
- 11:08Speaker 4: Not once.
- 11:09Speaker 6: We've heard from athletic directors. We've heard from the TV people,
- 11:13Speaker 6: We've heard from the Greg Sankies of the world, and
- 11:15Speaker 6: the Commissioners of the world and the CFP people. But
- 11:19Speaker 6: we haven't heard from the presidents and the chancellors.
- 11:21Speaker 4: Okay, yeah, Well, and.
- 11:23Speaker 2: The other thing is we don't see these massive buildings
- 11:27Speaker 2: coming up anymore either, for the most part, because the facilities,
- 11:31Speaker 2: the investment doesn't have to be in facilities anymore. So
- 11:34Speaker 2: a M's got great facilities. Yes, I know they're building
- 11:37Speaker 2: something over there baseball too, but I mean, for the
- 11:40Speaker 2: most part, for the most part, you're not going to
- 11:42Speaker 2: be invested in this money in facilities anymore. And so
- 11:45Speaker 2: it's it's shifting from all because i mean the arms.
- 11:49Speaker 4: Race for a long time, that was the arm stretch.
- 11:52Speaker 2: Sure, so now they got all these facilities. Now they're
- 11:54Speaker 2: just going to go pay pay the players, and it's
- 11:56Speaker 2: going to be all about how good point you pay
- 11:58Speaker 2: the players?
- 11:58Speaker 4: Yeah, bring up a good point, because, let's be honest,
- 12:02Speaker 4: out of the blue, you know, it kind of kind
- 12:04Speaker 4: of goes out of blue that Texas and know you
- 12:06Speaker 4: joined the SEC, you know the Big Ten, We know
- 12:10Speaker 4: the Big Ten and SEC rules everything. Someday they're probably
- 12:13Speaker 4: gonna get together in Canada or Mexico and then suddenly
- 12:17Speaker 4: you're gonna have this fifty or sixty and then what
- 12:20Speaker 4: can the NCAA do. I'm just saying it could happen.
- 12:23Speaker 4: When you're saying to everybody's being quiet and then everybody's
- 12:26Speaker 4: gonna say, hey, we can't pay safy five million dollars
- 12:28Speaker 4: for a football team.
- 12:29Speaker 2: Well, but see here, here's here's the key I think
- 12:31Speaker 2: moving forward is that these programs you know, I mean
- 12:35Speaker 2: boom Pickings at Oklahoma State, right, Yeah, he funded all
- 12:38Speaker 2: those facilities, right, He single handily put Oklahoma State on
- 12:42Speaker 2: the facilities, Matt point. But you cannot do this consistently,
- 12:46Speaker 2: like you said, with one major donor. And that's why
- 12:49Speaker 2: I doubt Texas Tech can keep doing this after that
- 12:53Speaker 2: donor's gone, right, I mean, I don't know the more
- 12:57Speaker 2: it's gonna be key that you have more.
- 12:59Speaker 6: Multimillion Well, and I have read about this just a
- 13:03Speaker 6: little bit. And where as long as you brought Tech
- 13:05Speaker 6: up and they're a they're they're like a poster program
- 13:11Speaker 6: for what's going on now, right that you can't you
- 13:15Speaker 6: can invest money and have success, right. Well, Cody Campbell
- 13:19Speaker 6: has gotten some of his oil buddies involved. It's just
- 13:23Speaker 6: not Obviously he's written a lot of checks, right and
- 13:28Speaker 6: as long as he's around, will continue to write a
- 13:31Speaker 6: lot of checks. But he has gotten others involved. And
- 13:35Speaker 6: I would argue that for the Cody Campbell's of the world.
- 13:38Speaker 4: They run in the circles that I don't run in.
- 13:41Speaker 4: So he can pick up the phone and call Jack.
- 13:44Speaker 6: Down at the Petroleum Club and say Jack, I just
- 13:48Speaker 6: wrote a fifty million dollar check. I'm asking you just
- 13:51Speaker 6: for a couple of million, right, And I.
- 13:54Speaker 2: Think it's more important now. So I wondered what the
- 13:58Speaker 2: point would be where Adam said enough is enough on
- 14:01Speaker 2: the enrollment. Well, now you want the all had enrollment
- 14:06Speaker 2: because you have a better chance of getting multimillionaires out
- 14:09Speaker 2: of that incredible workforce going out.
- 14:12Speaker 6: We've got a payroll to meet, exactly, right, and the
- 14:18Speaker 6: words of the former governor, We've got a payroll to meet.
- 14:22Speaker 2: It's exactly on some ship.
- 14:23Speaker 4: Probably Campbell's given honorary degrees to a lot of US buddies.
- 14:27Speaker 4: They're suddenly Texas tech grads because they're writing fifty million.
- 14:31Speaker 2: SMU paid their way into the ACC right enough, Yes,
- 14:36Speaker 2: then they had enough welfare. But again, my question is
- 14:41Speaker 2: it sustains ken Baylor in SMU and TCU, which has
- 14:45Speaker 2: a lot of like multimillionaires, but I also know they
- 14:49Speaker 2: don't have as many.
- 14:50Speaker 6: Yes, is it it's sustainable?
- 14:52Speaker 2: Exactly? That's my question.
- 14:54Speaker 4: Yeah, and I don't.
- 14:55Speaker 6: I don't, but I've been asking this question during the
- 14:59Speaker 6: arms race twenty five and thirty years ago.
- 15:01Speaker 4: It's like, well, how much is enough? How much can
- 15:04Speaker 4: they spend?
- 15:05Speaker 6: Well, apparently there's more, right because now we're talking about
- 15:09Speaker 6: a fifty million dollar football team. Okay, when before twenty
- 15:13Speaker 6: million was outrageous.
- 15:14Speaker 4: Not just a few years ago. You said, just two
- 15:16Speaker 4: years ago, fifty, it's gonna be one hundred.
- 15:19Speaker 2: Well, I mean, I remember, you know, back when I
- 15:23Speaker 2: started with twelve Man Foundation. But this is like in
- 15:26Speaker 2: nineteen ninety eight, in the list of big time multimillionaires
- 15:31Speaker 2: that were in our donor base was pretty nar small.
- 15:36Speaker 2: I mean, but now I look at that and I
- 15:40Speaker 2: was like, that's expanded a whole heck of a lot.
- 15:43Speaker 6: Also, there's there's been a lot more graduates, rusty, you know,
- 15:47Speaker 6: a lot more successful.
- 15:49Speaker 2: People, did a lot more opportunities, a new generation, right.
- 15:52Speaker 2: I mean, there's guys that you know, I mean, Archiaplin
- 15:56Speaker 2: and Dan TINKERRS Distribution up and mckinn Jay Graham what
- 16:01Speaker 2: he's done in his success and so it's gone a
- 16:04Speaker 2: long way from the bum bright.
- 16:06Speaker 4: Yes, yes, I remember those days.
- 16:09Speaker 2: Yes, yeah, So there was just a lot less, right, Yeah,
- 16:14Speaker 2: and now it's like, you know the six million dollar donors,
- 16:18Speaker 2: and you know that was a huge deal.
- 16:21Speaker 4: We named his own, no doubt. We've all seen the
- 16:23Speaker 4: problem when you get twelve or fifteen all paying the
- 16:27Speaker 4: bill that they all want to be the boss. And
- 16:28Speaker 4: sometimes it gets to be problems. Sometimes sometimes it'll be
- 16:33Speaker 4: interested to see how that works. When you got some
- 16:37Speaker 4: school again, we paid this fifty million dollars. I want
- 16:41Speaker 4: to say, who the coach is. I want to say what.
- 16:43Speaker 6: Happened to Well, see, you already know this, so I'm
- 16:46Speaker 6: not telling you anything new. But that's been going on forever.
- 16:52Speaker 6: In progess, follow the money, you know, that's not new.
- 16:56Speaker 6: It's just the price has gone out.
- 16:58Speaker 4: Pay more.
- 16:59Speaker 6: But the philosophy is not new, right, I mean that
- 17:02Speaker 6: that's been around.
- 17:03Speaker 4: You can't tell me Campbell's I'll call it all the shots.
- 17:05Speaker 4: Of course he is every sport I had done softball.
- 17:09Speaker 6: Yes, yes, but but again nothing new there just more money,
- 17:15Speaker 6: just a lot more money.
- 17:17Speaker 2: Well, and I think that the coaches play a big
- 17:19Speaker 2: deal of that in the relationship that they have with
- 17:22Speaker 2: these donors, because there they need to call them up
- 17:25Speaker 2: personally and say, you know, back when they were doing
- 17:28Speaker 2: the facilities, I don't know how much the coaches had,
- 17:31Speaker 2: you know, involvement directly with those with those prospects, and
- 17:35Speaker 2: I know they had some. But right now, it's how
- 17:39Speaker 2: much is Mike Elko willing to go ask this multi
- 17:45Speaker 2: millionaire for this? This is who we need and this
- 17:47Speaker 2: is what we need. I need to pick up the phone.
- 17:49Speaker 2: Or how much is Bucky? How many people is Bucky
- 17:52Speaker 2: actually going to say, listen, we got a chance to
- 17:54Speaker 2: get this guy, but I need this, Okay, I mean
- 17:59Speaker 2: we're competing again. Yes, we can get this kidfrom Cannons State.
- 18:03Speaker 2: He's the leading returner.
- 18:04Speaker 4: Yeh yeah.
- 18:04Speaker 2: Yeah. It's gonna cost.
- 18:06Speaker 4: It's gonna cost. So you know, you know, we we've
- 18:11Speaker 4: talked about this again.
- 18:13Speaker 6: It's not totally new, uh you know I I we
- 18:18Speaker 6: talked six seven, eight years ago.
- 18:21Speaker 4: The reason Coach.
- 18:22Speaker 6: Lee we talked about this, the reason coach Leech didn't
- 18:30Speaker 6: wasn't at bigger schools, right because he wasn't gonna hobmed
- 18:34Speaker 6: up with the donors, right.
- 18:36Speaker 4: He just wasn't going to do it.
- 18:38Speaker 6: And I feel like that cost him a job at
- 18:41Speaker 6: at some place like this or wherever that Hey, I'm sorry,
- 18:45Speaker 6: but that comes with the territory, right, And he's like, no.
- 18:50Speaker 6: He goes, if if you want to win football games,
- 18:52Speaker 6: and he went to schools that were, you know, that
- 18:54Speaker 6: hadn't had any success and said, we'll win football. But
- 18:59Speaker 6: don't expect me to to all of these after parties
- 19:02Speaker 6: and and and and and spent and.
- 19:04Speaker 4: Go to lunch with the biggest donor. I'm not gonna
- 19:07Speaker 4: do it, right.
- 19:09Speaker 6: I would argue that there's still a handful of coaches
- 19:12Speaker 6: like that, but if there are, they're not going to
- 19:15Speaker 6: be coaching these big schools anymore.
- 19:17Speaker 2: Nick Saban.
- 19:19Speaker 4: He quit, but he lost because that's why he quick quit.
- 19:23Speaker 2: He quit.
- 19:23Speaker 4: He does I'm not going to do it. He doesn't
- 19:25Speaker 4: want to talk to players agents. Correct, I'm not gonna
- 19:28Speaker 4: play that game.
- 19:29Speaker 2: And and those guys aren't gonna play that game anymore either,
- 19:32Speaker 2: would agree.
- 19:33Speaker 4: Yes, Now, I.
- 19:33Speaker 2: Mean I think you got to get like, what's amazing
- 19:36Speaker 2: is that Bucky's getting all these guys to buy into
- 19:39Speaker 2: his system. Yes, And he goes back to coaching, and
- 19:43Speaker 2: he goes back to how much success can we have here?
- 19:46Speaker 2: And Bucky showed right away in the first season that
- 19:50Speaker 2: we can be successful here, and I'm sure his sales
- 19:52Speaker 2: pitcher was, we didn't have great talent. So if you
- 19:57Speaker 2: come here, now.
- 19:58Speaker 4: I've won without talent.
- 20:00Speaker 2: So what can we do with you? You know, now
- 20:02Speaker 2: we got scored. Yeah, now we got some height.
- 20:05Speaker 4: Yeah, and you look what you mentioned like, it's hard.
- 20:08Speaker 2: You have to win.
- 20:09Speaker 4: It's hard to say your case conce and Otam and
- 20:14Speaker 4: Burkebcher or whatever his name was, is a naggie because
- 20:17Speaker 4: they're here one year, but yet on.
- 20:19Speaker 2: The same it's not a great time. I said that.
- 20:22Speaker 2: Now I have to kind of like, uh, contradict myself
- 20:25Speaker 2: here because I was all bored with a g being
- 20:28Speaker 2: an aggie, right because he bought a head and so
- 20:32Speaker 2: you wanted to win. Yeah, I get I guess that
- 20:35Speaker 2: was because I'm more tied to basketball saying.
- 20:37Speaker 4: You know what, skin is Hel is a great judge
- 20:40Speaker 4: of talent, and there's something to be said for that. Man.
- 20:42Speaker 6: You still have to have coaching, You've got to get
- 20:44Speaker 6: your money, you still have to.
- 20:46Speaker 4: Coach, still have to coaching, no matter what.
- 20:48Speaker 2: The talent evaluation is more important than ever. Oh my gosh,
- 20:51Speaker 2: because you're looking at this guy, you're not his potential
- 20:54Speaker 2: down the road. You're looking at what can he do?
- 20:56Speaker 6: Not not only talent evaluation, but as we've said, you
- 21:00Speaker 6: have a year how much, right, you have a year.
- 21:02Speaker 4: With a new team every single year. Right, you have
- 21:06Speaker 4: a year to make it work. And how much is
- 21:08Speaker 4: Indiana gonna lose under quarterback? That's a gambler that they
- 21:11Speaker 4: gambled on him, and they're gonna lose a lot of
- 21:12Speaker 4: money if he can't play.
- 21:14Speaker 2: Right.
- 21:14Speaker 4: But uh, Texas, Texas, Texas Tech. I'm sorry, Texas Tech
- 21:19Speaker 4: lost the quarterback to gamble.
- 21:20Speaker 6: Let me get Yeah, yeah, Texas Tech lost the quarterback
- 21:23Speaker 6: to gambling.
- 21:23Speaker 4: My I up, guy, man like that was that was
- 21:26Speaker 4: Texas Tech? Well that Texas could afford it, they'll buy
- 21:28Speaker 4: another one then.
- 21:29Speaker 2: Yeah, it's a little light and Bible one right now, Yeah, all.
- 21:34Speaker 4: Right, get somebody out of the NBA U League. Yeah whatever, Yeah,
- 21:40Speaker 4: it's it's I missed reading that fifty million So no
- 21:44Speaker 4: wonder he left Utah? You know, yes, much money in Utah? No, exactly,
- 21:48Speaker 4: exactly right, So I mean, yeah, he's a perfect example.
- 21:51Speaker 7: He is.
- 21:52Speaker 2: He he had to go to a have because maybe
- 21:55Speaker 2: it's a lot less than I originally thought, because I
- 21:59Speaker 2: thought it was gonna be forty fifty schools. I don't
- 22:01Speaker 2: know how many can actually come up with that.
- 22:03Speaker 4: I don't either. I mean, that's that's the question, isn't it.
- 22:07Speaker 4: You came up with the money if you want to
- 22:09Speaker 4: be if you want to go to that country club,
- 22:11Speaker 4: or you want to be in that club.
- 22:12Speaker 2: They did with the money. They did it for one year,
- 22:16Speaker 2: and they did it to get into the ACC and
- 22:18Speaker 2: the ACC was pressing up, and obviously they did it
- 22:22Speaker 2: to get into the playoffs, right, and it's worked, it's worked,
- 22:26Speaker 2: but they didn't get into the playoffs this last year.
- 22:29Speaker 2: And it's like that they just.
- 22:30Speaker 4: Gave their coach a whole lot of money to stay.
- 22:33Speaker 4: So so, I.
- 22:34Speaker 2: Mean, it'll be interesting to see if they can do it.
- 22:38Speaker 4: These repeated Well.
- 22:41Speaker 2: I know they got some money s I ME and
- 22:42Speaker 2: TCU and Baylor, but do they have enough people to
- 22:46Speaker 2: do it?
- 22:47Speaker 4: Look?
- 22:47Speaker 6: Here, here's here's another argument that we've made repeatedly. The
- 22:54Speaker 6: more the bigger checks that these guys, right, the bigger
- 22:59Speaker 6: the check they write, the expectations go with that, right, right,
- 23:06Speaker 6: So if you're not and if they raise it to
- 23:09Speaker 6: twenty four, I mean, so then you're gonna have twenty
- 23:13Speaker 6: four teams that are paying, or at least twenty of
- 23:17Speaker 6: those twenty four that are going to.
- 23:19Speaker 2: Be up there, right, getting your name on that player, right,
- 23:23Speaker 2: you used to get your name on the building, that's right,
- 23:25Speaker 2: But you're not getting your name on that player. You
- 23:27Speaker 2: know what I'm saying. Yeah, yeah, so it's a lot
- 23:30Speaker 2: less of an ego thing.
- 23:31Speaker 4: Well, I would.
- 23:33Speaker 6: Argue that with that, With that check for that player,
- 23:38Speaker 6: you do get access.
- 23:40Speaker 4: So that buys you access.
- 23:42Speaker 6: It buys you access to the coach, It buys you
- 23:45Speaker 6: access to the players. Back in the SMU scandal days
- 23:51Speaker 6: in the early eighties, it bought you access. Money has
- 23:56Speaker 6: always and whether it's politics, it doesn't matter what field
- 24:00Speaker 6: you're talking about.
- 24:01Speaker 4: We happen to be talking about athletics. But you write
- 24:04Speaker 4: a big check, you're gonna get access. Period. Here's the
- 24:08Speaker 4: dealist where I'm sending in. Maybe my eyes are a
- 24:12Speaker 4: little bit clouded, but when I see how far TCU
- 24:15Speaker 4: has fallen in football, and say what, we're in the
- 24:18Speaker 4: championship game, When I see how Baylor just can't compete anymore,
- 24:23Speaker 4: and then when I look at us, you was there
- 24:25Speaker 4: for once. Getting back to RUSSI sid I don't know
- 24:28Speaker 4: a year after year if you can keep up with
- 24:30Speaker 4: the Texas and the A and ms and L I
- 24:32Speaker 4: don't think you can in the Oklahoma's which is in
- 24:34Speaker 4: your area. I don't think you can. No, I don't
- 24:36Speaker 4: think you can either.
- 24:37Speaker 2: But again, I'll go back to the fact that as
- 24:40Speaker 2: an A and M person, you got to feel pretty
- 24:43Speaker 2: good about the fact that you are in, that you're in,
- 24:47Speaker 2: and you are producing all these graduates every year, so
- 24:52Speaker 2: those graduates have a better chance of becoming the multimillionaires
- 24:56Speaker 2: in the future, so you can replace those donors that
- 24:59Speaker 2: pass firs passed on.
- 25:02Speaker 6: But Rusty gotta win, Yes, you do, absolutely not not
- 25:08Speaker 6: just win, you had to win really big.
- 25:12Speaker 4: Well, am I wrong about that? I don't argue. I
- 25:15Speaker 4: mean a lot of people are happy that the an
- 25:17Speaker 4: M made the College FOOTBA playoff last year, and they
- 25:18Speaker 4: should be. It should be. And you know, if you
- 25:22Speaker 4: guess what CEA, yeah better damn well do it again
- 25:25Speaker 4: this year and the year after and the year after.
- 25:27Speaker 4: You don't. Then, like he said, some donors may sorrow,
- 25:31Speaker 4: but if you go back in four years, you're gonna well.
- 25:33Speaker 2: But I mean, you remember when A and M came
- 25:35Speaker 2: out with it. They had more fortune five hundred CEOs
- 25:39Speaker 2: than any Yeah, yeah, that's very important. Now it's important
- 25:43Speaker 2: for athletics, agree, because those guys are making a lot
- 25:47Speaker 2: of money, right yeah, and you know so it.
- 25:51Speaker 4: But they want their buddies worth do they want those.
- 25:54Speaker 2: Hands in hands? So you really need to pay attention
- 25:56Speaker 2: more than ever to those successful entrepreneurs that are coming
- 25:59Speaker 2: out of.
- 25:59Speaker 6: Your schoo Yeah yeah, but but they didn't get to
- 26:02Speaker 6: be successful about being stupid.
- 26:04Speaker 4: You might need to get you.
- 26:06Speaker 2: You're right, they didn't.
- 26:07Speaker 6: Now I realize there's emotions involved with athletics, right, There
- 26:12Speaker 6: a lot of emotions involved, right, so they may continue
- 26:17Speaker 6: to write checks for a while because of those emotions
- 26:22Speaker 6: and the fact that hey, maybe I didn't write a
- 26:25Speaker 6: big enough check this time because we didn't win that game.
- 26:30Speaker 2: But but the Aggies, I've been saying this for a
- 26:33Speaker 2: long time, same same thing with the Cowboys. Right, It's like,
- 26:35Speaker 2: if you keep on going back and filling up that
- 26:38Speaker 2: stadium over and over again and you want different results,
- 26:41Speaker 2: well you're you're kind of you know, you're speaking with
- 26:45Speaker 2: you wallet. And if you keep on coming back, which
- 26:48Speaker 2: Aggies are the best at coming back, and you know,
- 26:51Speaker 2: making it a game day, weekend and all those things
- 26:54Speaker 2: like you know you want a Frank gone. The best
- 26:56Speaker 2: way to letting go is stop coming. If you want
- 27:00Speaker 2: you if.
- 27:00Speaker 6: You want to vote, you vote, you vote with your money.
- 27:05Speaker 4: Hey, this just in Trey.
- 27:07Speaker 2: This just.
- 27:12Speaker 4: The athletics reporting.
- 27:14Speaker 6: The SEC will use the experimental A B S system
- 27:18Speaker 6: with the tournament coming up.
- 27:20Speaker 4: It's good. What do you think about that? I like it.
- 27:23Speaker 4: I like it the A B system to move forward.
- 27:25Speaker 6: Yeah, well they lost their coach for a couple of
- 27:28Speaker 6: innutes because they didn't have.
- 27:32Speaker 4: Yeah, and when it come out to argue, right.
- 27:33Speaker 2: You can't argue that I like the A B S
- 27:36Speaker 2: system a lot.
- 27:37Speaker 4: I do too, but I do too, and it hasn't.
- 27:43Speaker 2: What I've learned is the catchers no best.
- 27:45Speaker 6: The catchers know best, they do, and it hasn't extended
- 27:52Speaker 6: the game nearly what I thought it was because it's
- 27:55Speaker 6: not used very often.
- 27:56Speaker 4: It is very quick, very quick. Uh, A lot of players.
- 27:59Speaker 2: Don't I don't want to do that because they don''t
- 28:02Speaker 2: take it, especially early in the game.
- 28:04Speaker 6: The player that the hitters are complaining because they say
- 28:07Speaker 6: the strike zone is narrower than it was without ABS,
- 28:11Speaker 6: but they're going to complain anyway.
- 28:12Speaker 4: We need a break, We're going to come back.

- 31:46Speaker 6: Welcome back backs for Big with us. It's the Writer's
- 31:48Speaker 6: round Table, brought to you by Intech. The Savannah by
- 31:52Speaker 6: Natas took over this community for a few days and
- 31:57Speaker 6: I saw this article that they don't have to release
- 32:00Speaker 6: they're finances because they're privately owned.
- 32:02Speaker 4: But they did.
- 32:04Speaker 6: Okay, they sold two point two million tickets, and this
- 32:10Speaker 6: is in twenty twenty five.
- 32:12Speaker 4: I would argue it'll be more this year, but.
- 32:14Speaker 6: In twenty twenty five they sold two point two million tickets.
- 32:20Speaker 6: Fifty million in merchandise, twelve point seven million social new
- 32:25Speaker 6: social media followers. Okay, they played one hundred and thirteen
- 32:30Speaker 6: games last year in college, minor league MLB, and stadiums. Okay,
- 32:35Speaker 6: The two point two million would rank them twentieth in
- 32:39Speaker 6: Major League Baseball ticket sales, ahead of the Reds, Indians, Nationals,
- 32:44Speaker 6: Orioles Twins, twice as many as the Miami Marlins thirty
- 32:50Speaker 6: five dollars for minor league stadium ticket prices, forty dollars
- 32:54Speaker 6: for major league stadium. We know the high was sixty here,
- 32:58Speaker 6: and then they have one hundred dollars plus for VIP packages. Okay,
- 33:04Speaker 6: So seventy seven million dollars in ticket sales in twenty
- 33:08Speaker 6: twenty five. Okay, merchandise, as I mentioned, seven hundred and
- 33:14Speaker 6: eighty seven thousand fans in twenty twenty five purchased almost
- 33:19Speaker 6: two million items. Okay, now, and talking to people that
- 33:24Speaker 6: were at the game Saturday, they sold probably two million
- 33:29Speaker 6: items at Kyle Field on Saturday. The merch ticket lines
- 33:33Speaker 6: were the longest ticket lines, going fifty eight point eight million.
- 33:41Speaker 6: In that The bottom line is, if they were to
- 33:44Speaker 6: be valued like a professional team, the estimate is They're
- 33:50Speaker 6: close to a billion dollars in value right now. If
- 33:54Speaker 6: Jesse Cole wanted to sell the Savannah bananas.
- 33:57Speaker 2: It's a great success story.
- 33:58Speaker 4: It is an unbelieve evable success story.
- 34:01Speaker 6: I started this show by talking about the idiots on
- 34:04Speaker 6: social media who are who are criticizing everything, who criticize everything.
- 34:10Speaker 4: They're just miserable people. I don't know how you can
- 34:13Speaker 4: criticize what this guy has doing.
- 34:15Speaker 2: This is a great entrepreneurial story.
- 34:17Speaker 6: It is a great entrepreneurial It is America, and the
- 34:22Speaker 6: kids freaking love it.
- 34:25Speaker 4: Okay, you don't have to like it. You don't have
- 34:27Speaker 4: to go. It is America. It's free.
- 34:29Speaker 6: You don't have to buy a merch you don't have
- 34:31Speaker 6: to buy a tea shirt. You don't have to go.
- 34:33Speaker 6: But I'm telling you my greg kids went. They loved it,
- 34:37Speaker 6: and absolutely.
- 34:39Speaker 2: As someone who had zero interest in bananas, I wouldn't go.
- 34:44Speaker 2: I wouldn't fight the traffic, I wouldn't buy there's no
- 34:46Speaker 2: way by the merchi.
- 34:48Speaker 4: How does that all that?
- 34:50Speaker 2: I have an amazing admiration for those those that that couple, yeah,
- 34:56Speaker 2: Jesse Cole, their.
- 34:57Speaker 4: Story of they could two ticket, two tickets.
- 35:01Speaker 2: And they were sleeping on their floor, the matches on
- 35:03Speaker 2: their floor, and they were in credit card deck because
- 35:06Speaker 2: they had used everything that had to buy the team
- 35:10Speaker 2: to go from that.
- 35:11Speaker 4: It's a terrific story. It's an American movie. It is
- 35:15Speaker 4: should be a movie.
- 35:16Speaker 6: And by the way, I will say again, this is
- 35:19Speaker 6: twenty twenty five figures. I think that's before the ESPN contract.
- 35:24Speaker 6: I could be wrong about that. It is doubled from
- 35:30Speaker 6: this stuff right now. I did talk to people who
- 35:33Speaker 6: were in the second last row of the upper deck
- 35:37Speaker 6: and said, you know, you can't hear anything with the
- 35:40Speaker 6: PA system.
- 35:41Speaker 4: You don't even know they're playing baseball because they.
- 35:43Speaker 6: Were, you know, as far away as you could get
- 35:46Speaker 6: from the baseball field.
- 35:49Speaker 4: Yes, terrific, but it's an experience.
- 35:51Speaker 6: And I also said, whoever came up with this idea, boy,
- 35:56Speaker 6: it's all about timing.
- 35:57Speaker 4: Life is all about timing.
- 35:59Speaker 6: They had a run those whatever staff person at the city,
- 36:04Speaker 6: at the university, whatever, whoseever idea was, needs a bonus
- 36:07Speaker 6: and I will fight on their behalf to get that
- 36:10Speaker 6: bonus because they brought eighteen million dollars into our economy
- 36:14Speaker 6: this weekend.
- 36:15Speaker 4: That's a minimum, you know.
- 36:16Speaker 2: And then they went over the top. They brought due
- 36:18Speaker 2: perfect in. Hey, come on, man, what's what is better
- 36:22Speaker 2: than that they did?
- 36:23Speaker 4: I mean, I mean more power to them and and friends.
- 36:28Speaker 6: You know, well we talked about we talked about, you know,
- 36:32Speaker 6: who can fill this up? What can they do in
- 36:35Speaker 6: future summers? Because the soccer is coming soon?
- 36:38Speaker 4: Right next weekend? I don't know, it's soon, that's coming.
- 36:42Speaker 6: Uh, you know, George h They've they've done a nice
- 36:46Speaker 6: job trying to get some revenue and get Jimbo paid
- 36:50Speaker 6: off and do some things that they have to do.
- 36:53Speaker 4: Uh and we we uh and again I.
- 36:55Speaker 6: Promise this is this is the last money talk because
- 36:58Speaker 6: I started this going quat. I hate doing this because
- 37:01Speaker 6: that's not I got in the business for games. But
- 37:04Speaker 6: I wanted to bring the bananas up because they're just
- 37:06Speaker 6: so entertaining, so entertaining.
- 37:09Speaker 2: I know a lot of people who have tickets to
- 37:12Speaker 2: A and M Baseball who chose instead of going to
- 37:14Speaker 2: the second game on Saturday, chose bananas.
- 37:17Speaker 6: Yes, that's that's the prerogative, right, Yes, not something I
- 37:21Speaker 6: would ever do.
- 37:22Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah no, but it's it's.
- 37:24Speaker 4: But as we told you, you don't have grandkids yet.
- 37:27Speaker 4: Broadway show. You know what that's a fair kids are grown.
- 37:30Speaker 2: That's a fair point. Yes, because I took my kids
- 37:33Speaker 2: to circus when the circus came.
- 37:35Speaker 4: Absolutely, but I would not go back.
- 37:37Speaker 2: To the circus without them.
- 37:39Speaker 4: Yeah I get that, but yeah, I would spend.
- 37:41Speaker 2: The money with my grandkids. There was somebody else on
- 37:42Speaker 2: my I posted about that on Facebook is like, hey,
- 37:45Speaker 2: I salute these people. It's not for me. Yeah, yeah,
- 37:48Speaker 2: it's not. I don't understand the fascination, but so more
- 37:52Speaker 2: power to you if you like it.
- 37:53Speaker 4: Yeah yeah.
- 37:53Speaker 2: And somebody said, wait till you have grandkids. I was like, well,
- 37:56Speaker 2: that's a fair point.
- 37:57Speaker 4: I remember a time when a purple dinosaur or everybody
- 38:00Speaker 4: went to see.
- 38:01Speaker 2: You're right, see you know why because my kid liked
- 38:04Speaker 2: the purple.
- 38:04Speaker 6: Doves, you know, And I'm not I don't know if
- 38:07Speaker 6: this is sustainable.
- 38:09Speaker 4: I mean it looks like it is.
- 38:10Speaker 6: The Harlem Globetrotters are still going on after seventy five years.
- 38:15Speaker 2: As popular as they used to be. You're right, yeah,
- 38:18Speaker 2: uh meadowlark lemon anymore?
- 38:20Speaker 4: You know, there's not.
- 38:21Speaker 6: And I would also argue, uh, you know, the family
- 38:26Speaker 6: unit is not like it used to be either, right,
- 38:29Speaker 6: I mean, it's just not.
- 38:31Speaker 4: I'll argue it seventy five years from now, the Savannah
- 38:34Speaker 4: Banas will have tapered off a little bit. Well yeah,
- 38:37Speaker 4: but it's going to taper off. It's just the way
- 38:39Speaker 4: everything has.
- 38:40Speaker 6: Sure, But right down they're hot and again for a while,
- 38:43Speaker 6: and it'll be a while because they're on TV, the kids,
- 38:46Speaker 6: because they're they've got that generation now, right Oh yeah,
- 38:49Speaker 6: social media. I mean, I mean and that they're they're
- 38:52Speaker 6: on their phones all day, they're looking at stuff like that,
- 38:54Speaker 6: and and all of them, you know, wanted to be there, right,
- 38:57Speaker 6: Not all of them could, but all of them wanted
- 38:59Speaker 6: to be there.
- 38:59Speaker 4: I want to.
- 39:00Speaker 2: Social Media is change the world for.
- 39:02Speaker 4: Good and for bad. Oh I mean, I'm not probably
- 39:05Speaker 4: more bad than good. Honestly.
- 39:07Speaker 2: It's the whole we had this discussion. I mean, because
- 39:10Speaker 2: my kids are in the marrying stages right now. It's
- 39:12Speaker 2: like so much of what everybody does now is all
- 39:15Speaker 2: about social media. It's not it's like asking people. You
- 39:19Speaker 2: don't call anybody up and ask them to go to
- 39:21Speaker 2: homecoming with you.
- 39:22Speaker 4: It has to be.
- 39:23Speaker 2: A grand display so you can share that on social.
- 39:25Speaker 4: Media, no doubt. You have to do all these things.
- 39:28Speaker 4: The reveal I used to. I called my.
- 39:31Speaker 2: Parents and say, hey, listen, we're having a boy.
- 39:33Speaker 6: Yeah, yeah, oh absolutely, And so that was the reveal,
- 39:37Speaker 6: Yes exactly.
- 39:38Speaker 2: We didn't know it. We didn't gather with like eighty
- 39:41Speaker 2: people to blow up in a blue gun or a gun.
- 39:46Speaker 6: Right, all right, So our old guys get off my
- 39:50Speaker 6: lawnch segment is over.
- 39:52Speaker 4: We're we're sponsored by Intech.
- 39:58Speaker 6: I don't know if they'll do that anymore, but we
- 40:00Speaker 6: are going to talk about stuff on the field when
- 40:03Speaker 6: we come back.
- 40:04Speaker 4: The Rangers Report.
- 40:05Speaker 6: I'm trying not to do the Rangers Report, but the
- 40:07Speaker 6: Rangers Report is presented by Shorlty Roofing and the Decker

- 40:12Speaker 8: It was after a hailstorm a few years back. I
- 40:14Speaker 8: needed a new roof. Yeah, I shopped around and then
- 40:17Speaker 8: I found Shorlty Roofing in Point.
- 40:19Speaker 4: I'm glad I did.
- 40:20Speaker 8: The folks at Shorlty guided me every step of the way.
- 40:22Speaker 8: They showed me my options, They told me what my
- 40:25Speaker 8: out of pocket cost would be after insurance. They took
- 40:28Speaker 8: the complication out of an otherwise very stressful situation. They
- 40:31Speaker 8: took off the damage roof, put on the new roof,
- 40:33Speaker 8: did all the clean up and I had my new
- 40:35Speaker 8: roof in one day, the whole.
- 40:40Speaker 4: By the bullet proof.
- 40:43Speaker 2: I'm Adam Ce with your Texas Rangers report. The Rangers

- 41:26Speaker 7: loss in their rubber game against the Detroit Tigers last night,
- 41:30Speaker 7: seven to one. Despite the score, the game was tight
- 41:33Speaker 7: during the first half and it took the Tigers until
- 41:36Speaker 7: the fifth inning to open up the scoring with a
- 41:38Speaker 7: Spencer Torkelsen to run homer. It was a dreadful night
- 41:42Speaker 7: of hitting for the Rangers, with their only run being
- 41:44Speaker 7: off of Kyle higashiokas sacrifice grounder. As for pitching, Jack
- 41:49Speaker 7: Lighter threw ten strikeouts on the night while giving up
- 41:52Speaker 7: five hits and five runs and six and two thirds
- 41:55Speaker 7: innings pitched. Texas will have the day off today, but
- 41:58Speaker 7: they'll return to action tomorrow Row as they take on

- 42:53Speaker 13: AM and ninety three point seven FM.
- 43:14Speaker 4: Hey, welcome back. It's uh the Writers Round.
- 43:17Speaker 6: Table, Old Person's Version, brought to you by Intact Stalk
- 43:22Speaker 6: to Maggie. Baseball guys. There you go, let's talking about baseball.
- 43:25Speaker 6: That's another one of Rusties teams.
- 43:28Speaker 2: It is. I tell you what to get one game
- 43:31Speaker 2: after giving up twenty three runs in the seven innings
- 43:36Speaker 2: of the first game, and then early they gave up
- 43:38Speaker 2: five runs in the second game. So if you think
- 43:41Speaker 2: about the pitching after that and what they and them do,
- 43:45Speaker 2: and then we give up three runs yesterday and none
- 43:48Speaker 2: of the rest of the game after we got behind
- 43:50Speaker 2: five tons.
- 43:50Speaker 4: To them by a guy who hadn't been giving up any.
- 43:53Speaker 2: Right, And so you know what, it's it's never good
- 43:57Speaker 2: to lose the series, and certainly not get good to
- 44:00Speaker 2: run rule. But man, Auburn's really good and they're playing well,
- 44:04Speaker 2: and I just love the fact that A and M
- 44:06Speaker 2: got one yesterday.
- 44:08Speaker 4: You're gonna lose. You're gonna lose games and series. And
- 44:11Speaker 4: I said, I've said.
- 44:12Speaker 2: The biggest winner this year so far was the Georgia
- 44:15Speaker 2: win on Sunday. This has when right ranks right up there.
- 44:18Speaker 4: That does.
- 44:20Speaker 2: This gives you you're you're sure of a winning record.
- 44:23Speaker 2: Even even if you lose every single remaining SEC game.
- 44:27Speaker 2: You got a winning record, right exactly, which means and
- 44:30Speaker 2: they're not gonna lose every I mean, I would be shocked.
- 44:34Speaker 2: But they're in a great position right now. You know too.
- 44:39Speaker 2: If you win three and three and three, if you
- 44:41Speaker 2: go three and three in the next six, now you've
- 44:44Speaker 2: got eighteen conference wins. And yeah, you're feeling really good
- 44:47Speaker 2: about yourself.
- 44:49Speaker 4: It's it's just like, I don't say they're playing in
- 44:51Speaker 4: house money, but you've built your resume where you can
- 44:54Speaker 4: plan ahead.
- 44:55Speaker 2: For the other things. Boy, you just can't trust today.
- 44:57Speaker 2: I mean, I just you know, true.
- 45:00Speaker 4: And that is the question going into the because you know,
- 45:03Speaker 4: baseball gets down to the regionals, uh, super Regionals and
- 45:07Speaker 4: College World Series. What do you do? How do you
- 45:09Speaker 4: use your pitching stuff?
- 45:10Speaker 2: I'm I'm just convinced at this point that he's the
- 45:14Speaker 2: he's the number four starter, and I'm in the tournament. Well, yeah,
- 45:20Speaker 2: in any situation, I would not want him as is
- 45:23Speaker 2: if you're looking at a three game series now moving
- 45:25Speaker 2: forward into let's go super regional. Okay, yeah, he's not
- 45:29Speaker 2: my starter. If I'm Mike Early, I'm not starting him.
- 45:33Speaker 2: I'm starting Aidan Simms, I'm starting Lions, I'm starting Moss
- 45:39Speaker 2: and Sodeo. Is gonna guy that I'm gonna bring in.
- 45:42Speaker 2: But he's not gonna be my starter. I mean it's
- 45:46Speaker 2: I know it's extreme.
- 45:48Speaker 4: Well it's no, no, it's it's.
- 45:50Speaker 6: We've got a We've got a pretty long history by now.
- 45:53Speaker 2: He didn't getting out in second any.
- 45:55Speaker 4: It's a beauty of on Saturday baseball. Because you talk strategy,
- 45:58Speaker 4: and I'm with you one hundred per said, is something's
- 46:00Speaker 4: going to be done because you want to go to
- 46:02Speaker 4: your best chance of winning a regional or a super regional.
- 46:04Speaker 2: Well, especially in the super regional.
- 46:06Speaker 4: If you look at what he's done, I don't think
- 46:08Speaker 4: he would be the start.
- 46:10Speaker 2: It's so much more important to win that first game
- 46:12Speaker 2: and then it was a super regional to the regional.
- 46:14Speaker 4: You don't care if your home run row you look.
- 46:16Speaker 2: So in the playoffs. Now, I'm not saying that Early
- 46:20Speaker 2: is going to do anything because this is the way
- 46:21Speaker 2: he set it up, and they got two more series.
- 46:23Speaker 2: But once they get in the postseason, you need to
- 46:27Speaker 2: win that first game, whether it's be it the regional
- 46:31Speaker 2: or the Super absolutely right now, and that changes everything.
- 46:34Speaker 6: Especially and this day and age. I don't care what
- 46:37Speaker 6: directional school comes in here.
- 46:40Speaker 4: They have a picture. They got a chance.
- 46:42Speaker 6: Texas State, they wouldn't they wouldn't be coming in here
- 46:44Speaker 6: without a picture.
- 46:47Speaker 4: Alex and I was talking about this today. I said,
- 46:49Speaker 4: I can remember A and M was one of those
- 46:51Speaker 4: top seasons. Somebody came in here and they had a
- 46:54Speaker 4: picture that was going to get drafted, and sure enough
- 46:56Speaker 4: they beat A and M. You can't when you go
- 46:59Speaker 4: into hey, listen, somebody shows up, anybody can beat you.
- 47:02Speaker 2: Jacob Grom went to Stetson. I'm just yeah, yeah, yeah,
- 47:06Speaker 2: No Stetson comes in here with Jacob de Yeah.
- 47:09Speaker 4: Yeahs started an air force, right exactly, Yeah, Oh, just
- 47:14Speaker 4: a little air force coming in here's no.
- 47:16Speaker 2: Problem, yeah exactly right.
- 47:18Speaker 4: Did he pitch against Texas in the regional or was
- 47:21Speaker 4: that several years ago?
- 47:22Speaker 2: There?
- 47:22Speaker 4: Probably as before Paul Skins, I guess I don't know.
- 47:25Speaker 4: For a time, Yeah, but I remember when Stob is
- 47:28Speaker 4: getting surgery. Do you see that. Yeah, it is a huge,
- 47:31Speaker 4: huge ball for the Tigers. But getting back to the
- 47:34Speaker 4: SEC baseball, well, what what a deal? When you turn
- 47:37Speaker 4: on there's so many games on TV and they've got
- 47:41Speaker 4: there's ten teams that we've seen it before. Not only
- 47:44Speaker 4: can win you look at who's won the national championship
- 47:46Speaker 4: with the SEC in the last seven eight years. They
- 47:49Speaker 4: got about eight teams this year could win.
- 47:51Speaker 6: It, no doubt. You just got to get you're getting.
- 47:54Speaker 6: You're getting the tournament from this.
- 47:56Speaker 4: League's got a lot of coffeey not a lot of compies.
- 47:59Speaker 2: If you guys have it. There's anybody out there who
- 48:02Speaker 2: hasn't watched Jorian Wilson, Oh my gosh. That guy is
- 48:07Speaker 2: an athlete and he is a freshman and he is
- 48:12Speaker 2: just getting started.
- 48:14Speaker 4: And you give him as many bat or Sorell has
- 48:18Speaker 4: and he's got more home.
- 48:19Speaker 2: He's mean, he is a force. And you know, at
- 48:24Speaker 2: first I was like, well, I don't know if he
- 48:26Speaker 2: should be replacing Keel, But now I'm like, oh my gosh,
- 48:29Speaker 2: I look for so long, I like forward to every
- 48:31Speaker 2: at bat he has.
- 48:33Speaker 4: Yeah, you don't want to be getting up.
- 48:37Speaker 6: He's like, you don't want to.
- 48:41Speaker 2: Say this, but he's almost like Tani or Judge, Judge,
- 48:45Speaker 2: I was gone, you know what I missing there at
- 48:47Speaker 2: that you don't because there's a chance he may do something.
- 48:51Speaker 2: Really when he connects, it's gonna go a long way.
- 48:54Speaker 4: Yeah, he was such a great high school athlete, and uh,
- 48:57Speaker 4: he hasn't played that many years of baseball. Mike Forman
- 49:01Speaker 4: is a veteran guy now Victorian. And I remember saying like, hey,
- 49:04Speaker 4: he's covered. You think about he's covered Ruben Owens, he's covered,
- 49:07Speaker 4: Toya Jones, He's in our age. And he said, he said,
- 49:10Speaker 4: this might be the best athlete I think he said
- 49:13Speaker 4: he might have ever seen. And you go like, and
- 49:15Speaker 4: I saw him in the bombers. Unfortunately it wouldn't bat
- 49:17Speaker 4: was not a fair. He's a high school he's seventeen,
- 49:19Speaker 4: eighteen years old, right, but what an athlete. Now you
- 49:22Speaker 4: see that he's got like eighty ninety at bats only.
- 49:25Speaker 2: Oh my gosh, well you with you throw in Grahovic,
- 49:28Speaker 2: Sorell and Jakope and this team offensively or well man,
- 49:35Speaker 2: but I mean, I.
- 49:35Speaker 4: Hope Partito is okay. You had to come out.
- 49:37Speaker 6: He's got to pull and and uh, if you listen
- 49:40Speaker 6: to early post you know, post game, it's like, well
- 49:43Speaker 6: he was getting checked today.
- 49:44Speaker 4: We haven't heard anything, but gotta worry about pull muscles, Yes,
- 49:47Speaker 4: anything pulled.
- 49:48Speaker 2: Yeah, and Bear Harrison's almost up to three hundred.
- 49:51Speaker 4: Now look at his own base always, I mean phenomenal.
- 49:55Speaker 2: Well it's his own base is actually under five hundred
- 49:58Speaker 2: for the first time all years. It's like four nine seven. Yeah,
- 50:03Speaker 2: but I mean it's a fun offensive team. You just
- 50:06Speaker 2: hope that the uncertainties with the pitching doesn't cost him
- 50:09Speaker 2: in the.
- 50:09Speaker 6: Okay, So so I was just going to bring that up.
- 50:13Speaker 6: I always like to play Devil's advocate with this stuff.
- 50:18Speaker 6: I am a grumpy old man.
- 50:19Speaker 2: We already know baseball.
- 50:22Speaker 6: It's about pitching always, right, Yes, but it's always about pitching.
- 50:28Speaker 6: And you might be able to out hit an opponent
- 50:32Speaker 6: for a weekend, you might Yeah, you're right, but but
- 50:35Speaker 6: but you're you're you're looking even here.
- 50:38Speaker 4: You know, this Auburn team's pretty good.
- 50:40Speaker 6: They're they're I mean, they're they're pretty good, like like
- 50:43Speaker 6: all the top.
- 50:44Speaker 4: Teams in the SEC.
- 50:45Speaker 2: They pitched really well.
- 50:47Speaker 6: Well yeah, I mean they they really held A and
- 50:51Speaker 6: M down this weekend.
- 50:52Speaker 4: When you look at it, right, Yes they did.
- 50:55Speaker 6: I mean they held them down. Uh, and they won
- 50:58Speaker 6: two of the games.
- 51:00Speaker 2: They're a copying three run homer from Seeking the Series. Yeah,
- 51:05Speaker 2: and now that said Coopin almost tied.
- 51:07Speaker 4: The game in the second.
- 51:08Speaker 6: You're right.
- 51:09Speaker 4: You can always say you know because it's that close.
- 51:12Speaker 4: But my point is it's that close, and it's like
- 51:15Speaker 4: you have to have pitching.
- 51:17Speaker 6: I mean, when you start getting into and you and
- 51:20Speaker 6: you face a Jacob de Gram from Gumby State that
- 51:24Speaker 6: comes in here on a Friday evening with a packed
- 51:26Speaker 6: holes and field, they could quiet that crowd, right, and
- 51:31Speaker 6: you better have somebody that can throw up zeros right
- 51:35Speaker 6: along with them in a two to one Friday game
- 51:39Speaker 6: in the turn.
- 51:39Speaker 2: That's what you know. Of course we talked about today.
- 51:42Speaker 2: Oh but Western Moss was so good.
- 51:44Speaker 6: Yes, absolutely, I mean you have to have Yeah, you
- 51:47Speaker 6: need that.
- 51:48Speaker 4: Western Moss in three weeks, right, you do?
- 51:51Speaker 2: And yeah, you touched on it because I mean he
- 51:53Speaker 2: pitched against a really good team. Yeah, no, run almost
- 51:57Speaker 2: got through seven.
- 51:58Speaker 4: And you touched on it because I told I need
- 52:00Speaker 4: to stay healthy the rest of week because you're gonna
- 52:01Speaker 4: go playing a stupid SEC tournament. You don't want get
- 52:03Speaker 4: anybody hate that. I hate that.
- 52:08Speaker 6: I'll take this time again and I've still got three
- 52:11Speaker 6: weeks to rail on. These postseason tournaments in every sport suck,
- 52:17Speaker 6: but especially in baseball when you're talking about pitching.
- 52:22Speaker 2: Hey, you know what, Louke Billings has a forty point
- 52:25Speaker 2: fifty e R if the egg is right now. He
- 52:27Speaker 2: started game one for me in in Alabama. I mean,
- 52:31Speaker 2: I don't too. Yeah, I don't care, but I do
- 52:34Speaker 2: not care about that. Get down.
- 52:37Speaker 4: Yeah you can't.
- 52:38Speaker 6: You know, we we said the same thing, guys when
- 52:41Speaker 6: the basketball tournament came around, right, it's.
- 52:44Speaker 4: Like, hey, they're already in. You don't get that luxury
- 52:46Speaker 4: very often around here.
- 52:47Speaker 6: But we knew they were in, and it's like, man,
- 52:51Speaker 6: don't waste your team.
- 52:52Speaker 4: And they, you know what, they didn't. And then they
- 52:55Speaker 4: went out and won the first game.
- 52:56Speaker 6: But right, they had to travel across the country, but
- 52:59Speaker 6: they went and won the first game.
- 53:03Speaker 2: And then, you know, one one team almost won that thing.
- 53:05Speaker 2: I can't remember who almost won. The team that finished
- 53:09Speaker 2: at the bottom in the SEC and almost basketball. Yeah,
- 53:12Speaker 2: who was that?
- 53:13Speaker 4: Uh, well, forget Vanderbilt played Georgia.
- 53:19Speaker 2: I can't remember one.
- 53:22Speaker 4: See that's how important it is. It doesn't matter somebody
- 53:25Speaker 4: who did you get hot? No Texas, Texas, I mean
- 53:29Speaker 4: they went a long ways.
- 53:31Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 53:32Speaker 14: It doesn't matter. It doesn't matter because all we know
- 53:38Speaker 14: is that the less you need to win the tournament.
- 53:42Speaker 14: There's no point in going into what.
- 53:44Speaker 4: My thing is.
- 53:46Speaker 6: We have played all season long, and we have the
- 53:50Speaker 6: best baseball conference and the best conference in the in
- 53:53Speaker 6: the college conference in the world.
- 53:56Speaker 4: We've got it. We've got a standings.
- 53:58Speaker 6: We know where everybody fits in this league because they've
- 54:01Speaker 6: all played all year long. We don't need a tournament
- 54:06Speaker 6: a tournament to get a team in that's won four
- 54:09Speaker 6: conference games and knock out a team that's fifty percent
- 54:13Speaker 6: in the conference.
- 54:14Speaker 2: It's not going to get hot in Alabama and win.
- 54:17Speaker 4: Probably not, probably not, but but they could. I mean,
- 54:21Speaker 4: you know it's not going to happen. But I'm just
- 54:25Speaker 4: saying it doesn't make any sense to me, no sense
- 54:28Speaker 4: at all.
- 54:28Speaker 2: But now we know who the powers are.
- 54:31Speaker 4: Well, it's that that's TV.
- 54:34Speaker 6: You know, they they need the inventory.
- 54:36Speaker 2: And maybe LSU really needs to do really really well
- 54:39Speaker 2: in Alabama.
- 54:40Speaker 4: Ls you may have to win the whole thing. Right now,
- 54:42Speaker 4: you're right, they may have to win the whole thing.
- 54:44Speaker 4: I think LSU is trying to pay for football players
- 54:47Speaker 4: right now. Well I would.
- 54:52Speaker 6: It's like here, it's it's only a minor sport if
- 54:55Speaker 6: you lose, right, it's a or sport.
- 55:00Speaker 4: Do you lose.
- 55:01Speaker 2: Well, it's like you know, volleyball is a major sport
- 55:03Speaker 2: around here now, I mean, yes, yes.
- 55:06Speaker 4: They got link here for they don't need a baseball
- 55:08Speaker 4: program anymore.
- 55:10Speaker 2: Yeah, they still care about baseball, I promise you.
- 55:13Speaker 4: That's why. That's why they're not showing up in their sky. Yeah.
- 55:18Speaker 2: I've been there for baseball. They care.
- 55:21Speaker 4: Gentlemen, I've been to overhaul.
- 55:22Speaker 2: They still care.
