- 0:06shots at Pharrell and push Your Tea Far Roman teases a sequel to his debut
- 0:14album, Internal Affairs, and an update on my top five albums of twenty
- 0:21twenty three so far, and a little bit of a bonus. Let's do
- 0:27it. Welcome to hip Hop Now Podcast. GIF you from the future.

- 1:19in the description of this episode. Big shout out well, first of all,
- 1:26fifty years of hip hop, but also big shout out to hip Hop
- 1:32dx dot com. Yeah they really the only outlet I went with this week,
- 1:37so big shout out to them. All Right, let's get right into
- 1:40the business. In a new song on the new album from Travis Scott Drake
- 1:49featuring Drake, Drake decided to send a few choice bars in the direction of
- 2:00push your Tea again, but not only push your t also Farrell taking shots
- 2:07at the whole Louis Vutton thing. Seems kind of weird, but nevertheless,
- 2:12let's see what the nonsense it's all about. I swear Drake takes aim at
- 2:20push your Tea in Farrell when Travis Scott's melt Down collab. Okay, so
- 2:25let's get to the bars. Let's not even play with y'all. Here's the
- 2:29bars from Drake, I melt down the chains that I bought from your boss
- 2:34if I f about all that heritage ish since v not around, the members,
- 2:39don't hung up the Louis They not even wearing this now, this is
- 2:47kind of crazy. Let's see. Drake appears to be referencing the custom chains
- 2:52that Farrell auctioned off last year and which Drake, which Drake was later seen
- 2:58wearing in his JumboTron ish popping video. Interesting, the v in those bars
- 3:07means, what was oh yeah, Now I don't know how to pronounced Virgil's
- 3:14last thing, So forgive me. I didn't do the research in advance.
- 3:17It's cool or Virgil. Hey, that's what we're gonna say, because we're
- 3:22not gonna Butcher. It was the late fashion icon who worked with Louis Fauton.
- 3:29He designed some kicks also for Nankees, some really dope I did,
- 3:32you know, like just a lot of swag with him. He passed away
- 3:36and Louis Fatton chose Forever to take his place as their designer. That's the
- 3:45remember that's the one where he did the fashion show and there was one outfit
- 3:49where they looked like minecraft. And then there was a rumor about a woman
- 3:55designing a specific bag um like turn it into a take basically taking the Louis
- 4:02bag that when you go in the Louis store and you buy something and they
- 4:06give you a little, you know, carrying bag like any other store.
- 4:10She turned that carrying bag into a bag bag, right, not the slag
- 4:16bag but like a purse, right, but a bag, saying that the
- 4:23new Louis bangs that look like that are basically her design. Now, before
- 4:30we get into all that with the fashion, just no you know dapper days
- 4:32to do that back in the days, yet in trouble for a little while,
- 4:35but now they kind of work with them. Yes, it's even if
- 4:41it's a bag to carry your items out of the store. Of course,
- 4:46the bag itself is still their design. The idea that you chose to turn
- 4:51that bag into a bag, it's a dope idea and maybe they should have
- 4:56approached you about it. But guess what, they don't pack because you took
- 5:01their thing and made something new on top of their thing. Get what I'm
- 5:04saying, So you can't really see them. But regardless, let's let's get
- 5:12to the bars. So I honestly, I am not sure where this is
- 5:17coming from. It feels like a couple of episodes ago we were talking about
- 5:23Jim Jones and push your T and push your T has some choice words for
- 5:27him, and Jim Jones decided to wrap in front of close bodegas and trash
- 5:30cans. But nevertheless we all forgot about it, and now here's Drake bringing
- 5:38up old beef. Now do I really care? Now? I really don't.
- 5:46I really don't. Because the bars were so light, the flow was
- 5:50so predictable on a song that I feel like in a lot of ways,
- 5:55he messed it up trying to add this nonsense to it when it could have
- 5:59been what it was. Do I feel like Push your T should answer light
- 6:06light bars for light bars, you know what I mean? Like previously Push
- 6:12your T gave in their previous battle, Push your T gave Drake some light
- 6:15bars as baked, right, and then he dropped a song, and then
- 6:21Drake had a free style and then Push your T finished it with the song
- 6:27about you know, Drake's son and all that. Who we all know,
- 6:30man? And maybe this is debate for Drake, right, Like maybe he
- 6:35doesn't want to because remember Jay Prince stopped him from releasing the follow up and
- 6:40all that, so maybe he wants to rekin do that battle in some ways.
- 6:44But I say this, Drake, we don't care, man. It's
- 6:49something about this coming back up again. This was pre pandemic type beef rap
- 6:58beef. I don't want to. I don't want to hear from this again.
- 7:02I want if Drake is in a battling mode, pick a fresh battle
- 7:06on me. Pick a fresh one. You could go at Kendrick if you
- 7:13want, because if we're gonna go, you know, direct battle ballfa Bard,
- 7:17it's going down. Didn't choose somebody else who you didn't already get cooked
- 7:23by because he outed your son. You can't change history, not gonna rewrite
- 7:30history now, just let it go. So that's my opinion on it.
- 7:33I could care less, but you never know. Something may happen and I
- 7:38might feel like, okay, let's do it. So we'll see. Farrell
- 7:44much teased a new album, but it's also a follow up to his debut
- 7:51album, Turnal Affairs. Now. Turn of Affairs was and probably arguably the
- 8:00best album in his catalog. I believe this is back when he was on
- 8:05raucus right, some of that was slowed down, like his success. Some
- 8:11of his success will slow down because of the whole legal battle with the use
- 8:16of the Godzilla sample on his lead single, but now Here. He is,
- 8:22fresh off of rock album, coming back to hip hop, but going
- 8:28way back to the beginning for a sequel. The sequel obviously will be titled
- 8:33External Affairs. So the debut was Internal Affairs. This is what it's called
- 8:39External Fairs. Somehow, some way Cameron would want us to say, pauls
- 8:48but I digress or boosting. I will say this, Well, let me
- 8:58just say he teased it by releasing a video basically a video that actually was
- 9:07the intro to his two thousand and eleven album War, which was an acronym
- 9:16that I can't remember anymore. And interest Elba was the voice on that intro
- 9:22and it mentioned today, but today is July twenty seven, two twenty three.
- 9:31If you're from the future, the album probably already came out out of
- 9:35him man. But nevertheless, my thoughts on album, which is slated because
- 9:43I believe the teaser said twenty twenty fourth, so next year sometime maybe excuse
- 9:50me, maybe next year around this time he'll drop it. Here's my thoughts
- 9:56on that. When it comes to us getting a new farareh manch album,
- 10:03it's about damn Town on a hip hop side, It's about them time.
- 10:07One of the most slept on but most dopest mcs ever inspired many mcs,
- 10:18including Eminem. Right when you look at their styles of rhymen, it's night
- 10:22it's the same thing, right, Eminem just talk about some crazy stuff,
- 10:28but the word play and the technique it's farare mancho Day in a lot of
- 10:33ways, and or really probably more now than ever. But I kind of
- 10:39feel some kind of way about the sequel thing. Not that he can't do
- 10:46it, He's fully capable. But the minute, the minute, the minute
- 10:54you say this is part two to that album that you look for back then
- 11:01you set the expectations. It's I'm just being real, that's just what happens.
- 11:07You set the expectations for your listening to audience, right, especially when
- 11:15you're teasing like a year out. That means you are giving for those who
- 11:20haven't heard the original or haven't heard in a while to listen and absorb it
- 11:26again like it's new. So when you release the sequel, those expectations are
- 11:31gonna be like you either meet this or it's trash, which is not always
- 11:37the case. Right. An album good but not a perfect follow up to
- 11:45a debut, And what's a perfect follow up? Well, what did that
- 11:46album do? Anytime you're calling it apart two of anything? You have set
- 11:54the expectations, and the expectations are whatever people think about that part one,
- 12:01that debut, that first album, So that's the part I don't like.
- 12:07A brand new example is Naz and hit Boy with Magic two right now.
- 12:13When it came to the King's Disease trilogy, they were just up into anty,
- 12:20like those albums get better as you go up and sometimes being so appreciated
- 12:26even more now because it was it was the first, right, but they
- 12:33met the expectations with each version of King's Disease, and it just means that,
- 12:39Oh, when you said Magic, I thought about the time when y'all
- 12:43dropped the first Magic and my excitement and my elation over it being dope.
- 12:50But this one isn't capturing that same feeling because it's kind of different. It's
- 12:54not really sequel. It's not a sequel that feels like it connecting anyway beyond
- 13:01the cover or the style of the cover. So I said all that to
- 13:05say, we'll just wait to see because at the end of the day,
- 13:09I'm a music fan. I love Farrell marsh music. I listened to his
- 13:13music all the time, you know, waiting for a new album to drop.
- 13:18So if he's working on this and it's going to be a sequel in
- 13:20his pedigree, he typically does not miss. There's probably one Farremont solo album
- 13:28that is not one of my favorites because it's more singing than rapping. Oh
- 13:37when it comes to the rapping joint, he does not disappoint So I'm extremely
- 13:41optimistic about this album releasing in twenty twenty four. And lastly, so as
- 13:48y'all know, or if you don't know, you need to go back and
- 13:52check it out. This is around the time all the hip hop magazines and
- 13:58websites and aggers, well magazine and bloggers, y'are not even around anymore,
- 14:03really, right, but you know what I mean, websites, podcasts,
- 14:07whoever, people online on social media. Around June is when it's like,
- 14:13what are the best of the years so far? So I fell in line
- 14:16and did mine like usual. And I said in that video a couple of
- 14:20weeks ago that this top five can change tomorrow. Well you know what happened.
- 14:28It changes you next week, Killer Mike dropped the Michael, and all
- 14:33of a sudden I needed to make room. Well, y'all, even though
- 14:39my palyst isn't completely changed, it's changed. And I don't know if I'm
- 14:45going to do this up to a point right, maybe up to maybe through
- 14:52September. I'll do like checkups on my top five for the year. Now,
- 14:58my top five of the year isn't just the top five. I also
- 15:01will mention albums that I thought were some of the best of the year,
- 15:05right because even though I may not pick an out or two that you're thinking
- 15:09about, it doesn't mean I haven't heard it. It doesn't mean that it
- 15:13won't end up on my best of the year lists. But it just means
- 15:18that for my personal top five, it did not make that list. But
- 15:24being on the bigger lists in general is what you want. So real quick,
- 15:28I'm just gonna recap really quick and tell you what's in my top five
- 15:35right now. July addition. Right, so, the first one you heard,
- 15:41Killer Mike Michael. If there had to be a top one, it
- 15:46would be that one because it is just so well produced, it thought out,
- 15:52and it is just great work in general. I already did a review
- 15:56or impressions on it, so you can check that out in one of my
- 16:00previous episodes, Ransom and Nicholas Craven Director's Cut four. At the time that
- 16:07I did my Top five of the year, this was out, I mean,
- 16:14of the year so far. This album was out, but it was
- 16:17only available on Ransom's Like, a site he partnered with to release it,
- 16:26and I hadn't purchased it yet. But then once it had the opportunity to
- 16:29actually hear it. I was like, yeah, there's no way, no
- 16:32way, this doesn't make my time five. This would be tough to top
- 16:37by Ransom, let alone anybody else, but he did. They also just
- 16:44released deleted scenes, which is like a secondary series, as they do for
- 16:48every time they release a director's cut, they release a deleted scenes version that
- 16:55one. I haven't heard yet, but god forbid, I have two and
- 17:00some projects in the top five. I wouldn't do that, but maybe this
- 17:03new joint bill replace that one. Who else? The other halfbum might have
- 17:07jay Peg Mafia Scaring the Holes I got to title down, don't care,
- 17:11I got it jay Peg Mafia and Danny Brown. I should say I just
- 17:18liked this album, man, because this is just a different vibe of energy.
- 17:21And I'll say this right, anybody who goes to check it out know
- 17:25this. There are a ton of albums and are this some of our favorites
- 17:30who are dropping music to share where Let's keep it real. The subject matter
- 17:37is exactly the same. Let's just keep it real. They're just saying things
- 17:41things in a different way over different pets. So the Mafio so gun clapping,
- 17:47the Cooke King's fourteen chains, the jewelry mentioned cat, the how much
- 17:52money, how much gas they smoke, all like, We're gonna get a
- 17:56million of those. And I'm not complaining because I love boom Back, but
- 18:02sometimes you gotta remember that hip hop was more than boom Back. And honestly,
- 18:07my lists always reflect the variety of taste I have. Right, It's
- 18:12not always all albums from one region. Right, I'm from Brooklyn. It's
- 18:17not always going to be everybody from New York because my taste is much much
- 18:22more expensive than that. Right, So Jay PEGMFI and Danny Brown Man is
- 18:27there's some comedy, there's some there's some high energy beats. It's it's just
- 18:33different stuff, man. So to me, if you are a music fan
- 18:37and when it comes to checking out somebody album, it's like an experience for
- 18:41you. This is one of those put the headphones on man and work out,
- 18:48or or do something around the house, clean up the house, something
- 18:52where you can really occupy yourself and hone into the lyrics and listen and also
- 18:59have a good sound quality going in your air at the same time, because
- 19:03the production value is not something to ignore as well. So statics selector round
- 19:11trip if Boom back is what you want, but you want a compilation where
- 19:18the beats aren't all the same. The pairing of the mcs, seeing the
- 19:23work, they just make sense. And it features everybody Status selector round Trip.
- 19:34It's gonna be difficult for this one to come out of my lest something
- 19:37hot. It's gonna have to drop where I'm like, what can go?
- 19:41Sorry? Status selected, but right now statics selected round Trip. Check that
- 19:47out. That's like perfect for fifty years of hip hop in the last joint
- 19:52that stayed in my top five. But I won't I kid you not.
- 19:57It may come out it's Mickey dumbing. Nobody bleeds like Flair stuck on this
- 20:06project. The man didn't release more. He probably got four projects this year
- 20:10already. I've only heard one because I just keep hitting Rewind. I just
- 20:15like the vibe of this joy and I think it's a little bit of the
- 20:18nostalgic wrestling. It's a little bit of the you know, Rick Flair's flair,
- 20:23and and the production value is just boom bapping. It's just dope,
- 20:29and it's it's sort of in a lot of ways. And this is no
- 20:33disrespect to him or to who I'm about to say but it reminds you of
- 20:40back when Griselda didn't have big deals and they which just dropped these albums and
- 20:45it was all about concepts, you know. And you can hear it in
- 20:52the production, you can see it in the cover. And West Side Gun
- 20:56still does that, so don't get it twisted. But the only difference is
- 21:00Mickey Diamond is not gonna blow your way as an MC, right Like,
- 21:04You're not gonna be like, yo, you did you hear that? Like
- 21:07he's not one of those mcs, but he's perfect for what needs to be
- 21:14done on his album right Dope beats, Dope bars repeat. Now. The
- 21:21only reason why I say I don't know if it would remain there because there
- 21:26was a project that was released this ship that in every indication I could include
- 21:32it on this podcast, I said to myself, this ain't it. I
- 21:37don't know what, but this ain't it. But I'm a big fan of
- 21:41Conway the Machine and the compilation came out and I didn't really like that.
- 21:48I didn't do impressions on it, but I'm just letting and I really like
- 21:49that. And then I just kept listening and I started liking it more and
- 21:57more and more and he kept getting closer and closer to my top five.
- 22:03The album is called what He Won't He Do It? And it's not in
- 22:08my top five right now, but it's in my best of the year.
- 22:14It's made its way to that, and I don't know, man, you
- 22:18can't ignore when you are choosing to listen to a specific album over other albums.
- 22:25I reviewed Lloyd Bank's album Eye listen to it in its entirety again yet
- 22:30and it's not bad at all. There's a couple of projects that were not
- 22:34bad that I just kind of stopped because I had a rotation which just solid.
- 22:41This rotation is solid. This top five so far from Me will give
- 22:45you like enough of a hip hop fix to cover all categories, right,
- 22:53And that's typically what my top five is now. I know somebody say,
- 22:57well, where the track at? Well, when somebody drops somebody dropped something
- 23:03and I pressed play, and I'm like, I've been listening. Oh yeah,
- 23:08it's an end because I don't care who it is now. I ain't
- 23:11gonna lie. I've been listening to I'm not. I'm a fan of me
- 23:17Goes, but I wasn't the biggest fan of Offset. I always felt like
- 23:22his bars were kind of phoned in right delivery and stuff like that, But
- 23:26he's been grabbing my attention later and when he dropped his album, I'm gonna
- 23:30I'm gonna check it out, see what it is. You know, what
- 23:34if it's good or not, if I like it enough, I mean,
- 23:37you know, it's a long time till the end of the year. But
- 23:41what I'm saying is there's a lot more music on the way. That just
- 23:45is we didn't even hit the part of the year where it feels like everybody's
- 23:49dropping the album back in the blog and right, I used to call it
- 23:53the fourth quarter of blitz. Once we got to like Thanksgiving, like November
- 23:59time, it was like everybody was like, boom boom, boom boom.
- 24:02Year's about to be over. Even in December, you're just getting albums and
- 24:07a lot of times you get a lot of heat. So there's probably a
- 24:10ton of projects that are on the way. Right there's the LLL and q
- 24:14Tip project that's supposed to be releasing this ship knowing LLLL is going to release
- 24:19on hip Hop's Birthday, and we'll see what that's about. But my list
- 24:26is definitely gonna get shuffled. So no matter how many praises I sing all
- 24:30of these projects, at some point we gotta be getting the good music right
- 24:38because it's been a very slow year so far. So we'll see, we
- 24:42shall see. What do you think? What are some of the albums that
- 24:47you listen to but maybe maybe listen to our album you don't even feel like,
- 24:51well, now, this can't be the best thing. Yeah, I
- 24:52like it right now, but this won't be in my top five. And
- 24:56one thing I put on Twitter and I saw a couple of responses, but
- 25:00in general, what albums should people be talking about? Right? Because there's
- 25:04some really dope albums that recently came out like Odyssey and Black Milk and a
- 25:10couple of other folks that have dropped joints right, So I don't know.
- 25:15It's gonna be interesting end of the year, to end fifty years of hip
- 25:22hop and move on into the future. So we'll see. Leave your comments
