- 1:07I am excited that you all have both joined me today.
- 1:09I think that we're gonna have a great conversation about what K E H A is and how people can get involved and be a part of it.
- 1:16Across the state.
- 1:17So Brenda,
- 1:18we're gonna just kick off with you and let's define what is K E H A or the Kentucky Extension Homemakers Association.
- 1:25Thank you,
- 1:26Mandy Kentucky Extension Homemakers is a volunteer service organization.
- 1:31It works to improve the quality of life for individuals,
- 1:34families and communities.
- 1:36We have nearly 11,000 members statewide.
- 1:39Our mission is learning leading and serving.
- 1:42We fulfill this through our educational programs,
- 1:45our leadership development,
- 1:46training and opportunities and our volunteer service and our community outreach programs.
- 1:54The K H A organization was developed in cooperation with the Kentucky Cooperative Extension Service.
- 1:59More than 90 years ago,
- 2:02homemakers work with county family and Consumer Sciences agents to provide educational programming and coordinate those community activities.
- 2:10I am excited about the things that K E H A has done over the years,
- 2:15but specifically,
- 2:16this week,
- 2:17we are celebrating K E H A week.
- 2:19So what is K E A A week?
- 2:22K E H A week is uh a great time.
- 2:25This is use our organization since this second week in October to celebrate and recognize all the local homemakers and all the great works that they do in their clubs and community.
- 2:35This is also a great time to kick off our membership drive for the year.
- 2:40The heartbeat of K E H A is our local clubs and our county organizations.
- 2:45We are a family.
- 2:46We play,
- 2:47learn,
- 2:47grow together and help each other when needed.
- 2:50Homemakers use this time to highlight the organization.
- 2:53And so we've,
- 2:54we've seen different communities celebrate in many different ways.
- 2:57So,
- 2:58in your local area,
- 2:59you might hear an announcement on the radio or see a story in the local paper in some communities,
- 3:04a public official may recognize the group.

- 3:13There's certainly lots going on this week.
- 3:16And as I said at the beginning of the show,
- 3:19Brenda is the K E H A president.
- 3:22So Brenda as president,
- 3:23what are your goals for your term?
- 3:26As president?
- 3:27My program of work as state president has a three pronged mission during my three year term.
- 3:32My focus is confidence.
- 3:34I want the homemakers to show confidence through their accomplishments and to showcase their talents and their skills and their projects and community efforts.
- 3:42I would like everyone to see how special and valuable they they are in their communities.
- 3:47I hope to offer guidance by encouraging our leaders,
- 3:51supporting officer and chairperson training,
- 3:54promoting educational lessons and the new leadership academy.
- 3:58I want to give direction by helping to grow and retain membership as well as encouraging leaders to follow directions,
- 4:05utilize extension resources and to plan events that incorporate fun and learning.
- 4:11My program of work theme is let your light shine.
- 4:14We're encouraging members to share experiences and success during our K E H A week as well.
- 4:21As inviting new members to join.
- 4:23We have fun nautical themes for each day of the week and we're really excited about celebrating this activity.
- 4:30Brenda has a solid plan to take this group forward.
- 4:33We hope by sharing ideas and support,
- 4:36we can create a tidal wave of success.
- 4:39So if someone was interested in joining Kentucky Extension Homemakers,
