- 0:07Speaker 1: It's a mediat podcast. Welcome to Meet Eater Trivia, the
- 0:12Speaker 1: only game show where conservation always wins. I'm your host,
- 0:15Speaker 1: Spencer Newhart, and today we're joined by Brodie Henderson, Chester,
- 0:20Speaker 1: Floyd Randall, Williams, Colin Fapma Tressa Croker, Max Barta, and
- 0:24Speaker 1: Roman Snowbrick. Roman, this is your first time on the show.
- 0:28Speaker 1: Tell folks what you do here at Meat Eater.
- 0:31Speaker 2: I am the community coordinator, so I get to monitor
- 0:34Speaker 2: our general inbox and answer questions all day.
- 0:37Speaker 1: How many emails a day?
- 0:39Speaker 2: I would say usually round one hundred.
- 0:42Speaker 1: Man, it's a lot to keep up with.
- 0:44Speaker 2: Social media dms keep me entertained too, especially Steve's.
- 0:48Speaker 1: Yeah and Roman. I always announce on the podcast when
- 0:52Speaker 1: you're sending a question to the show, send it to
- 0:55Speaker 1: Trivia at the medeater dot com. But people still fail
- 0:58Speaker 1: to listen and then they sell it. They send email
- 1:00Speaker 1: to you instead, to which you need to forward to
- 1:03Speaker 1: the trivia inbox. How often does that happen?
- 1:07Speaker 2: Probably about every day?
- 1:08Speaker 1: Yeah, every day. It used to be significantly worse, but
- 1:11Speaker 1: our listeners have learned, and so I'm gonna I'm going
- 1:14Speaker 1: to quit harping on where you need to send the email.
- 1:17Speaker 1: I'll try to tell you just once or twice an
- 1:19Speaker 1: episode instead of four or five times. But for Roman's sake,
- 1:24Speaker 1: stop sending the emails there. Please send them to Trivia
- 1:26Speaker 1: at the mediater dot com.
- 1:28Speaker 3: And people should know that Roman's the man. Go on,
- 1:31Speaker 3: He's just the man.
- 1:32Speaker 1: Oh okay, yeah, that's right. Roman is in a Kenyan Noble
- 1:36Speaker 1: commercial that's been airing for about the last six months.
- 1:44Speaker 4: Uh huh.
- 1:45Speaker 1: It shows him building out his very own storage system
- 1:49Speaker 1: and his pickup riding mountain bikes camping.
- 1:51Speaker 2: Right, so, my buddy's grandpa actually built that for me.
- 1:54Speaker 2: I just you said you should continue lying to people
- 2:01Speaker 2: built it.
- 2:01Speaker 1: Roman de Man. Now, this is a ten round quiz
- 2:04Speaker 1: show with questions from meat Eater's four verticals, which are hunting, fishing, conservation,
- 2:08Speaker 1: and cooking, and there is a prize. Meat Eater will
- 2:10Speaker 1: donate five hundred dollars to the conservation organization of the
- 2:14Speaker 1: winners choosing for the start of the week. This week,
- 2:16Speaker 1: we're looking at the number one hundred and sixty. That's
- 2:20Speaker 1: how many hours a professional fact checker spent on the
- 2:23Speaker 1: board game to ensure that all of the questions are clear.
- 2:27Speaker 1: And accurate. This fact checker has edited best selling books
- 2:30Speaker 1: and award winning magazines and put me through the ringer.
- 2:34Speaker 1: I'll fill my computers going wild here. Okay, we're back. Sorry,
- 2:40Speaker 1: you just want me to power through.
- 2:42Speaker 5: If that's okay with you.
- 2:43Speaker 1: Yeah, wonderful. This fact checker has edited best selling books
- 2:47Speaker 1: and award winning magazines and put me through the ringer
- 2:50Speaker 1: so that we could create the best product possible. And
- 2:53Speaker 1: as we'll discuss in a little bit, sometimes I need
- 2:56Speaker 1: that second set of eyes.
- 2:57Speaker 6: I was just gonna ask, why don't you have him
- 2:59Speaker 6: start doing a little fact checking before these games?
- 3:02Speaker 1: Yeah, well it's a her, Brody. Sorry, sorry, it's a her.
- 3:07Speaker 1: She costs money, so that's.
- 3:10Speaker 7: Why the product possible.
- 3:13Speaker 1: Yeah, you're there. There you go. You're not getting quite
- 3:16Speaker 1: the best product possible with this show, but close to it.
- 3:19Speaker 1: We're just one fact checker short. Now here's our zero
- 3:22Speaker 1: percenter question of the week, which tests how much knowledge
- 3:24Speaker 1: players have retained from previous shows. This question was from
- 3:27Speaker 1: episode four thirty three. The topic was conservation, and nobody
- 3:31Speaker 1: got it right. What Great Lake City created an ecological
- 3:35Speaker 1: disaster in nineteen eighty six when they released one point
- 3:38Speaker 1: five million balloons in an attempt to set a world record.
- 3:42Speaker 8: Cleveland.
- 3:42Speaker 1: Cleveland is right, that's your home state, Randall, what year
- 3:46Speaker 1: were you born?
- 3:47Speaker 8: Nineteen eighty six?
- 3:48Speaker 1: Oh? Okay, So do you have like any childhood memories
- 3:52Speaker 1: about people talking about that event going down?
- 3:55Speaker 4: None?
- 3:55Speaker 8: I learned of it first at this very table.
- 3:58Speaker 1: Really, yeah, you should. You should go home and ask folks.
- 4:01Speaker 8: Was a transplant to Ohio though, so I arrived in
- 4:04Speaker 8: ninety four outside of DC northern Virginia.
- 4:09Speaker 7: Cleveland's home to a lot of ecological disasters.
- 4:13Speaker 1: That a correct answer was Cleveland. The incorrect answers given
- 4:16Speaker 1: were Toledo, Chicago, and Green Bay. And we have a
- 4:20Speaker 1: lot of housekeeping to get to. Because listeners took issue
- 4:23Speaker 1: with three questions from episode four to seventy one, some
- 4:26Speaker 1: of their corrections were warranted and some of them were not.
- 4:30Speaker 1: Let's start with question five from that game, which was quote,
- 4:33Speaker 1: this national park in Virginia is the closest national park
- 4:36Speaker 1: to Washington, d C. The correct answer was Shanandoah, but
- 4:40Speaker 1: about a dozen listeners wrote in saying this was wrong.
- 4:44Speaker 1: They were arguing on behalf of answers like Great Falls Park,
- 4:47Speaker 1: Manassas National Battlefield, Prince William Forest Park and Arlington Cemetery. Now,
- 4:53Speaker 1: all of these places are managed by the Park Service,
- 4:56Speaker 1: but that doesn't make them one of the country's sixty
- 4:58Speaker 1: three national parks. And if you were using that logic,
- 5:02Speaker 1: then you'd have to consider places like the Washington Monument,
- 5:05Speaker 1: the National Mall, and the White House itself, which all
- 5:08Speaker 1: sit on property that are owned by the National Park Service.
- 5:12Speaker 1: So Shenandoah is staying correct.
- 5:15Speaker 8: Fantastic.
- 5:16Speaker 1: Next up is question six, which was quote, this medication
- 5:19Speaker 1: which Donald Trump said cured as COVID nineteen can be
- 5:22Speaker 1: used to kill ticks that live on moose. The correct
- 5:25Speaker 1: answer is ivermectin, but the question itself was inaccurate. Here's
- 5:29Speaker 1: why Donald Trump didn't take ivermecton. The Washington Post article
- 5:33Speaker 1: I was referencing for that question said that quote, Donald
- 5:36Speaker 1: Trump's supporters are crediting ivermectin with curing COVID nineteen. But
- 5:40Speaker 1: I made an error in saying that Donald Trump himself
- 5:43Speaker 1: took it, which was wrong. So we're throwing that question
- 5:47Speaker 1: out because of my mistake. And finally we'll talk about
- 5:51Speaker 1: question seven, which was quote the official Prime meridian, which
- 5:54Speaker 1: separates the hemispheres and establishes time zones is located in
- 5:58Speaker 1: this country. The correct answer was England, but about two
- 6:01Speaker 1: dozen listeners wrote in saying this was incomplete, and they
- 6:05Speaker 1: were right. Here's why it was flawed. Here's why it
- 6:09Speaker 1: was flawed, and we're throwing out the question. As many
- 6:11Speaker 1: listeners pointed out, the way it was worded would also
- 6:14Speaker 1: allow for answers like France, Spain, Algeria, Ghana and Moore.
- 6:19Speaker 1: Now I remind you that this question was sent by Steve,
- 6:21Speaker 1: with whom I argued that it was a bad question,
- 6:24Speaker 1: but he insisted otherwise. So all this to say, All
- 6:27Speaker 1: of this is to say that I get things wrong,
- 6:30Speaker 1: and I hate it when I get things wrong. And
- 6:32Speaker 1: that's why we hired the independent fact checker for the
- 6:35Speaker 1: board game. Her one hundred and sixty hour spent critiquing
- 6:38Speaker 1: my questions were as valuable as our listeners who do
- 6:41Speaker 1: the same.
- 6:42Speaker 7: Now, when you say you throw a question out, are
- 6:46Speaker 7: you going back to change the results of those games?
- 6:49Speaker 1: And it didn't change the result of that game, Well,
- 6:51Speaker 1: it's specific.
- 6:51Speaker 8: It would change the result of the game if you
- 6:53Speaker 8: didn't throw out the question that I got right. And
- 6:56Speaker 8: he threw out the question and Seth got right.
- 6:58Speaker 1: Look at the memory on you ran. Oh yeah, because
- 7:01Speaker 1: I I had to go back to look at this,
- 7:02Speaker 1: and that's exact surprise.
- 7:04Speaker 5: Remembers every single I remember.
- 7:08Speaker 8: I remember this game very well. Yeah, it was one
- 7:11Speaker 8: of many last minute catastrophes on my recent record.
- 7:16Speaker 3: You probably remember all the ones I get wrong too.
- 7:19Speaker 8: I do remember those.
- 7:21Speaker 1: Yeah. Now, Brody, you asked why we don't have the
- 7:23Speaker 1: fact checker for this game. Our listeners are the fact checker.
- 7:26Speaker 1: They all, all of them do the fact checking for me.
- 7:29Speaker 1: It's a fault flawed process when it happens.
- 7:33Speaker 7: Played a bit of a delay.
- 7:35Speaker 1: Yeah, so I'll just count on them to keep me
- 7:38Speaker 1: on my toes. Now, the Shelby Index for today's round
- 7:42Speaker 1: is a four, so our winners should get eight correct answers.
- 7:44Speaker 1: And with that we're onto the game of trivia. Play
- 7:47Speaker 1: the drop, Phil, Look, I need to know what I
- 7:53Speaker 1: stand and win everything. Just tend to win everything.
- 8:05Speaker 7: Game.
- 8:06Speaker 1: On Suckers Question one, the topic is mountain Men. This
- 8:10Speaker 1: will be multiple choice and this first great question comes
- 8:13Speaker 1: to us via Chad Benson. Country artist Johnny Horton wrote
- 8:18Speaker 1: a song in nineteen sixty dedicated to this mountain man.
- 8:23Speaker 1: Is it Jim Bridger, Hugh Glass, Grizzly Adams or John Colter?
- 8:29Speaker 1: Can we hear the song after this? I will play
- 8:33Speaker 1: the song for you for now, though you need to
- 8:35Speaker 1: tell me. Country artist Johnny Horton wrote a song in
- 8:39Speaker 1: nineteen sixty dedicated to this mountain man. Choices are Jim Bridger,
- 8:45Speaker 1: Hugh Glass, Grizzly Adams, John Colter Chester.
- 8:49Speaker 8: Can I trouble you for?
- 8:50Speaker 4: No? You don't?
- 8:50Speaker 2: You don't get a new marker?
- 8:52Speaker 8: Oh?
- 8:56Speaker 1: Can we help out? Radio Mars right here? Nothing here?
- 9:03Speaker 1: Does anybody know this? Or is everybody guessing?
- 9:06Speaker 3: Gues for me?
- 9:07Speaker 1: Guess what a song it is?
- 9:11Speaker 7: Contry researching that that next audiobook? Yet Randall?
- 9:15Speaker 1: Not yet? This could be part of part of your research.
- 9:18Speaker 1: Country artist Johnny Horton wrote a song in nineteen sixty
- 9:21Speaker 1: dedicated to this mountain man. Jim Bridger, Hugh Glass, Grizzly Adams,
- 9:25Speaker 1: John Colter, Does everybody have an answer? Go ahead and
- 9:28Speaker 1: reveal your answers. We have Colin saying, John Colter, Roman saying,
- 9:33Speaker 1: Grizzly Adams, Tressa saying John Colter, Max saying, Grizzly Adams,
- 9:37Speaker 1: Randall saying Grizzly Adams Chester saying John Colter Brody sang
- 9:41Speaker 1: John Colter. Nobody got it. The correct answer was Jim Bridger.
- 9:46Speaker 1: That song was on the album Johnny Horton Makes History.
- 9:50Speaker 1: Here is one minute of it.
- 9:51Speaker 7: Wait before we.
- 9:52Speaker 6: Play this, Spencer, yep, can you explain to these people
- 9:56Speaker 6: who Grizzly Adams is.
- 9:59Speaker 1: No? Go ahead? And he like he had a grizzly
- 10:02Speaker 1: that he trained, right, but he spent some time.
- 10:04Speaker 6: Like some seven Mountain TACKI seventies television show.
- 10:09Speaker 7: Was he even a mountain man?
- 10:10Speaker 1: He was a real mountain was yeah? And he like
- 10:12Speaker 1: Guyana he was around and then did not.
- 10:16Speaker 7: Really I thought it was all fakes.
- 10:17Speaker 1: And then I think post mountain man era is when
- 10:20Speaker 1: he trained a grizzly that he entertained folks with.
- 10:23Speaker 7: Didn't know that learned something new every day.
- 10:25Speaker 1: Phil take it away.
- 10:32Speaker 4: He spoke with General Custer and said, listen, yellow Hair,
- 10:37Speaker 4: the Sioux Air regread nation. So treat them fair and square,
- 10:41Speaker 4: sitting on their war council. Don't laugh away their pride.
- 10:46Speaker 4: But Custer didn't listen that little big horn Custardye last day,
- 10:56Speaker 4: as long as there's a USA don't let his memory.
- 11:01Speaker 1: He turned up a little phil if we would have
- 11:08Speaker 1: been here, if it worked for men like to.
- 11:14Speaker 8: So just a concept album of people making history.
- 11:17Speaker 1: He explains history. What's the Battle of New Orleans? I
- 11:21Speaker 1: feel like that's maybe the most famous song from the album.
- 11:23Speaker 1: M that's that's Johnny Horton, and it's him telling you
- 11:26Speaker 1: about a historical lesson.
- 11:28Speaker 7: He was a famous artist at the time.
- 11:30Speaker 1: Sure, I think so. I'm just asking Chester if you
- 11:33Speaker 1: played any Johnny Horton ever.
- 11:35Speaker 3: I have not, But I was just gonna say, maybe
- 11:37Speaker 3: I go home and give that a pick.
- 11:40Speaker 4: Oh.
- 11:40Speaker 1: Question two?
- 11:41Speaker 7: You know what, that would be a great cover because
- 11:43Speaker 7: nobody would know where.
- 11:44Speaker 8: Yeah, yeah, I think.
- 11:45Speaker 3: He wrote it, Jack Chester, You would think I wrote
- 11:47Speaker 3: it again.
- 11:48Speaker 1: Question two? The topic is gear r e I by
- 11:53Speaker 1: national headlines in twenty twenty two when they announced that
- 11:57Speaker 1: they'd never be open on this day again again. Now,
- 12:01Speaker 1: I'm not looking for like a day of the week,
- 12:04Speaker 1: Like if this question was about Chick fil a, right,
- 12:07Speaker 1: the answer would be Sunday. But it's not that kind
- 12:10Speaker 1: of question. ARII made national headlines in twenty twenty two
- 12:14Speaker 1: when they announced that they'd never be open on this
- 12:16Speaker 1: day again, confident, Brody and Randall and Chester. Rest of
- 12:28Speaker 1: the room is thinking. Topic is gear. ARII made national
- 12:31Speaker 1: headlines in twenty twenty two when they announced that they'd
- 12:34Speaker 1: never be open on this day again. Rody, do you
- 12:40Speaker 1: know this one?
- 12:44Speaker 7: We're gonna find out?
- 12:45Speaker 1: I think so. Like we're waiting on this side of
- 12:49Speaker 1: the table. Tress is ready with her answer. Colin Romo,
- 12:55Speaker 1: Colin Roman, Max or not? Is everybody good?
- 12:58Speaker 8: I think so?
- 12:59Speaker 1: Go ahead and RecA fail your answers. We have Colin
- 13:02Speaker 1: saying ourbor day, Roman saying earth Day, Tresa saying fourth
- 13:05Speaker 1: of July, Max saying earth Day, Randall's saying Black Friday,
- 13:09Speaker 1: Chester saying Christmas, Brody saying Thanksgiving. The correct answer is
- 13:15Speaker 1: Black Friday. Randall got it right. ARII first decided in
- 13:21Speaker 1: twenty fifteen that they wouldn't be open on Black Friday.
- 13:25Speaker 1: This became an annual announcement until twenty twenty two, when
- 13:28Speaker 1: they officially said they'd never open on Black Friday again. Instead,
- 13:32Speaker 1: they called it an opt out side day, encouraging their
- 13:35Speaker 1: employees to spend time with friends and family outdoors.
- 13:39Speaker 7: And hop on the internet and buy some shit.
- 13:42Speaker 1: That question three, the topic is fishing. The International Eel
- 13:50Speaker 1: Pout Festival was held for forty consecutive years on Leech
- 13:54Speaker 1: Lake in this state. The whole room is confident, and
- 14:00Speaker 1: except for Tresa, here's the question again. The International Eel
- 14:05Speaker 1: Pout Festival was held for forty consecutive years on Leech
- 14:10Speaker 1: Lake in this state. Brody, what's the matter? It's too easy?
- 14:15Speaker 1: Too easy? I love it.
- 14:17Speaker 3: You have you been there to this event?
- 14:22Speaker 7: Not saying quick answers?
- 14:25Speaker 1: Is everybody ready? Go ahead and reveal your answers. We
- 14:29Speaker 1: have Colin saying Minnesota, Roman saying Minnesota, Tresa saying Michigan.
- 14:34Speaker 1: The rest of the room says Minnesota. They got it.
- 14:37Speaker 1: The correct answer was Minnesota. The International Eel Pout Festival
- 14:43Speaker 1: was an annual gathering in Walker, Minnesota, from nineteen seventy
- 14:47Speaker 1: nine to twenty nineteen. It's taken a bit of a hiatus,
- 14:50Speaker 1: but rumors are swirling that the event might return in
- 14:53Speaker 1: twenty twenty four. The festival attracted a crowd of ten
- 14:57Speaker 1: thousand visitors each year who showed up to part party
- 15:00Speaker 1: and fish max. What do you know about the International
- 15:03Speaker 1: Eel Pout Festival. It's basically a straight up party fishing
- 15:08Speaker 1: is like a side activity.
- 15:10Speaker 2: Fish is like a side gig, and there's thousands and
- 15:14Speaker 2: thousands of people on the ice at once, and it's
- 15:17Speaker 2: definitely a sight to see.
- 15:18Speaker 1: Yeah, and I think they shut it down because it
- 15:20Speaker 1: became like maybe too much of a party and people
- 15:23Speaker 1: are leaving too much of a mess. Yeah, it'll come
- 15:25Speaker 1: back like.
- 15:26Speaker 2: A music festival, but for.
- 15:28Speaker 1: They have, Yeah, pretty much. Sure, there's a lot of
- 15:31Speaker 1: music festival.
- 15:32Speaker 3: Sounds like Sturgey spearing on like Winnepego does.
- 15:34Speaker 1: Sound like that question? The topic was hunting. This is
- 15:40Speaker 1: our listener question of the Week, which was won by
- 15:42Speaker 1: Sam Crowthers for sending this great question. Sam is going
- 15:45Speaker 1: to get a book signed by Steve. This animal that's
- 15:49Speaker 1: native to the Middle East has been nicknamed the devil
- 15:52Speaker 1: bird by hunters. Topic is hunting. This animal that's native
- 16:01Speaker 1: to the Middle East has been nicknamed the devil bird
- 16:04Speaker 1: by hunters. We have a confident Brody and Randall. The
- 16:08Speaker 1: rest of the room not so much. Brody, do you
- 16:12Speaker 1: know this one? Randal? Do you know this one?
- 16:14Speaker 8: I believe so.
- 16:18Speaker 1: This animal that's native to the Middle East has been
- 16:20Speaker 1: nicknamed the devil bird by hunters. Now Brody didn't like,
- 16:27Speaker 1: how easy that last one is?
- 16:28Speaker 7: Do you think this one's too easy?
- 16:30Speaker 1: Also? Okay, well two of you have come up with answers.
- 16:32Speaker 1: Do you think our listeners from say, Georgia or Oklahoma
- 16:36Speaker 1: would know where leech Lake is?
- 16:38Speaker 7: Yeah?
- 16:39Speaker 1: Come on, no, not as obvious, not as it's not
- 16:43Speaker 1: as obvious as you're saying.
- 16:45Speaker 6: And leech Lake, Like, I feel like there's a lot
- 16:48Speaker 6: of info there, and like, forget it.
- 16:55Speaker 1: A few more folks coming up with an answers. Max,
- 16:57Speaker 1: do you have this one right? I don't know.
- 16:58Speaker 3: I'm thinking about the guys that.
- 17:01Speaker 1: Right horses And Okay, this animal that's native to the
- 17:04Speaker 1: Middle East has been nicknamed the devil bird by hunters.
- 17:11Speaker 1: Is everybody ready go ahead and reveal your answers? With
- 17:16Speaker 1: Colin saying raven, Romans saying raven, Tressa saying road runner,
- 17:21Speaker 1: Max saying golden eagle, Randall's saying chucker, Chester's saying turkey vulture,
- 17:27Speaker 1: Brody saying chucker. The correct answer is chucker. Brody and
- 17:32Speaker 1: Randall got it. I was thinking of those guys that
- 17:35Speaker 1: like use the eagles to hunt.
- 17:37Speaker 7: Falconers nor East.
- 17:41Speaker 6: They live in like super steep, rocky terrain, Chucker were
- 17:44Speaker 6: given this nickname.
- 17:46Speaker 7: Sure, famous chucker hunter Chucker.
- 17:48Speaker 1: We're given this nickname because of what a hellish chase
- 17:51Speaker 1: it is to kill one. They spend most of their
- 17:53Speaker 1: time in steep, rocky country that resembles their native range.
- 17:57Speaker 1: Chucker were introduced to the US from Pakistan in eighteen
- 18:01Speaker 1: ninety three.
- 18:02Speaker 6: Spencer, I just thought it was too easy because Randall
- 18:05Speaker 6: got it right, okay, and nobody else got right.
- 18:08Speaker 8: I liked that one because I got it right and
- 18:10Speaker 8: I learned something.
- 18:11Speaker 1: Oh, would you let I didn't know the origins?
- 18:13Speaker 8: Yeah, bird, So Spencer, I appreciate that.
- 18:17Speaker 1: And Brody was right. They live in such hellish country.
- 18:21Speaker 3: We're heavenly there. You know who you are.
- 18:23Speaker 1: Question five? Wow? Question five, the topic is cooking. There's
- 18:29Speaker 1: a divine little voice there that said, wow, is that phil?
- 18:32Speaker 1: Is that you know?
- 18:34Speaker 4: Okay?
- 18:34Speaker 1: Question five? The topic is cooking. According to Southern Living magazine,
- 18:39Speaker 1: the role of this specific ingredient is the main difference
- 18:43Speaker 1: between gumbo and jumbalaya. According to Southern Living magazine, the
- 18:51Speaker 1: role of this specific ingredient is the main difference between
- 18:56Speaker 1: gumbo and jumbalaya. Here are so other ignorance is showing
- 19:01Speaker 1: the room is very slow to answer. They know where
- 19:04Speaker 1: Leech Lake is, but they don't know the difference between
- 19:07Speaker 1: gumbo and jumbalaya. Quick answer from Chester. But oh, but
- 19:15Speaker 1: he's second guessing it. I've never eaten neither of them.
- 19:19Speaker 1: Neither one, Tresa.
- 19:20Speaker 6: Okay, Spencer, this is one that's just worded like, oh,
- 19:26Speaker 6: but very very difficult.
- 19:29Speaker 1: I'll tell you how Southern Living magazine says. They say,
- 19:32Speaker 1: the main difference between gumbo and jumbalaya is so this
- 19:36Speaker 1: this is worded like how they word it, Phil, what's
- 19:38Speaker 1: the matter?
- 19:40Speaker 5: No, I don't want to be mean, but I just
- 19:43Speaker 5: saw Chester's board and I thought it was funny.
- 19:49Speaker 7: Again, Bill, that in fact is mean.
- 19:55Speaker 3: I mean it is an ingredient. I think they use
- 19:57Speaker 3: it in it.
- 19:59Speaker 7: According to Southern Living man their version, the.
- 20:03Speaker 1: Role of this specific ingredient is the main difference between
- 20:06Speaker 1: gumbo and jumbalaya. I don't have the quote in front
- 20:09Speaker 1: of me, Brody, but the way they word it is
- 20:11Speaker 1: they say, the main difference between gumbo and jambalaya is
- 20:15Speaker 1: and it's the use of this ingredient. What do you got, Randall?
- 20:21Speaker 7: Well, so is it the use of the y it's
- 20:24Speaker 7: like the ingredients. Is it the role of the ingredient
- 20:28Speaker 7: the you like, it's.
- 20:29Speaker 1: Just the answer of this question will be the ingredient.
- 20:33Speaker 6: That's what I'm looking one ingredient is this, Like you
- 20:36Speaker 6: have an ingredient that is in gumbo that's not in
- 20:39Speaker 6: jumbalaya or vice versa.
- 20:40Speaker 1: Not telling you that part. I'm telling you the role
- 20:44Speaker 1: of this ingredient.
- 20:47Speaker 2: Figure out the difference.
- 20:49Speaker 7: So are you asking for the role of this ingredient?
- 20:52Speaker 1: Your answer should be an ingredient, just an ingredient. If
- 20:54Speaker 1: you thought the answer was mountain dew, you would write
- 20:56Speaker 1: mountain dew.
- 20:59Speaker 7: The question flaw. It's completely flawed. Way you got it.
- 21:03Speaker 5: So Brodie, You're you're saying, like, let's just say it's apples,
- 21:07Speaker 5: Like like you're saying, well, the apples, the role of
- 21:09Speaker 5: the apple would be different. And the two dishes, like
- 21:11Speaker 5: in one it's like it's stewed for two hours and
- 21:14Speaker 5: the other one it's sprinkled on top. Like that's kind
- 21:16Speaker 5: of what you're getting at, Like because you're saying the
- 21:18Speaker 5: role versus the presence of the ingredient.
- 21:21Speaker 6: Sure, I guess like it's just like very hard to
- 21:25Speaker 6: get at it, Like the way it's worded, I feel like,
- 21:28Speaker 6: m you take it up a Southern Living magazine?
- 21:31Speaker 4: Do they.
- 21:34Speaker 1: Does everybody have any o?
- 21:36Speaker 7: You've had a lot of questions from Southern Living.
- 21:38Speaker 1: I feel like that's not true. Maybe here and there?
- 21:43Speaker 1: All right, this is some northern ignorance again. Is everybody ready? Brody?
- 21:50Speaker 4: Yeah?
- 21:50Speaker 1: Go what do you got? Chester?
- 21:52Speaker 3: Oh, just can say you throw this ingredient in there
- 21:54Speaker 3: and it plays a role in making it one or
- 21:57Speaker 3: the other.
- 21:57Speaker 1: Go ahead and reveal your answers with Colin saying flour,
- 22:00Speaker 1: Roman saying catfish dressed, the saying sausage, Max saying shrimp,
- 22:05Speaker 1: Randall is saying and Duley Chest you're saying sausage, Brody
- 22:09Speaker 1: saying water. Nobody got it? The correct answer is rice.
- 22:15Speaker 1: Both dishes have Creole and Cajun roots and similar ingredients.
- 22:20Speaker 1: Gumbo is served with rice that's cooked separately, while jumbalaya
- 22:24Speaker 1: contains rice that's cooked in the same pot. Learn how
- 22:27Speaker 1: to cook each of them. Check out Danielle Pruitz and
- 22:31Speaker 1: ingredient and Riga Matany's Venison sausage and shrimp jumbal Iye
- 22:35Speaker 1: recipe on the meat eater dot com.
- 22:38Speaker 7: Rice is not an ingredient in gumbo. You make gumbo,
- 22:42Speaker 7: then you serve it over rice.
- 22:45Speaker 1: I think the question was fine, so you're no.
- 22:48Speaker 4: Way.
- 22:49Speaker 7: Well the good news is an ingredient in jumble. Aye,
- 22:52Speaker 7: it's not an ingredient in gumbo.
- 22:53Speaker 1: The good news. Nobody got it right, So we're not
- 22:56Speaker 1: taking anything away from Brody. If it is flawed.
- 22:59Speaker 7: I never have put down rice because it's not an
- 23:02Speaker 7: ingredient in gumbo.
- 23:03Speaker 1: It's because you don't know the difference between gumbo and
- 23:05Speaker 1: jumble one.
- 23:05Speaker 7: No, it's not an ingredient in gumbo, is not Phil.
- 23:10Speaker 1: We are halfway through our game of trivia, give us
- 23:13Speaker 1: a square board update bad.
- 23:16Speaker 5: We've got Tresa with zero points on the board, Roman, Colin,
- 23:20Speaker 5: and Chester and Max all have one point a piece,
- 23:23Speaker 5: Brody has two, and Randall is in first place with
- 23:25Speaker 5: three points.
- 23:26Speaker 3: There's still a chance there is, but this is the
- 23:29Speaker 3: Randall and Brody show.
- 23:32Speaker 1: So thanks for inviting us. Spencer, God, that one's gonna
- 23:36Speaker 1: stay with me.
- 23:37Speaker 8: Spencer Brody's one question head do you match?
- 23:39Speaker 1: Don't say I need another Minnesota question? Question six. The
- 23:53Speaker 1: topic is wildlife. This next great question comes to is
- 23:56Speaker 1: via Ryan McCarty. This state's state land man is a
- 24:00Speaker 1: white tail, state water mammal is a dolphin, state fish
- 24:04Speaker 1: is a large mouth. State waterfowl is a wood duck.
- 24:07Speaker 1: And state flower is a magnolia. You need to tell
- 24:13Speaker 1: me what state this is. State Land mammal is a whitetail,
- 24:16Speaker 1: State water mammal is a dolphin, state fish is a
- 24:20Speaker 1: large mouth. State waterfowl is a wood duck. State flower
- 24:24Speaker 1: is a magnolia. Max with the quickest answer, Max, do
- 24:33Speaker 1: you know this one?
- 24:34Speaker 4: Uh?
- 24:34Speaker 2: No, But I'm putting pieces together.
- 24:38Speaker 1: Okay, I think I got it. In the meantime, I'm
- 24:42Speaker 1: going to try to find Brody. This quote from Southern
- 24:44Speaker 1: Living magazine.
- 24:45Speaker 6: I don't care, honestly, Okay. When you make gumbo, rice
- 24:52Speaker 6: is not an ingredient. You make the rice separately from
- 24:56Speaker 6: the gumbo, then you put the gumbo on it.
- 24:58Speaker 7: You could eat gumbo with.
- 25:00Speaker 2: You're talking like when you make spaghetti, you make the noodles.
- 25:03Speaker 7: Send No, No, you can make a pot of.
- 25:07Speaker 1: Rice.
- 25:08Speaker 7: It's still gumbo.
- 25:11Speaker 1: Here here's the quote from the magazine. The main difference
- 25:14Speaker 1: between the two is the role of the rice, which
- 25:16Speaker 1: is integral in both. Gumbo is served with rice that's
- 25:20Speaker 1: cooked separately but rice goes into the jumbalaya pot.
- 25:24Speaker 5: Yeah, you just I'm kind of on team Brody here.
- 25:28Speaker 5: The rice is optional in gumbo. You don't like you
- 25:30Speaker 5: have it on the side, or you don't have it
- 25:32Speaker 5: at all, Like it's not really any part of the dish.
- 25:37Speaker 1: Moving on, here's here's this question one more time. This
- 25:39Speaker 1: state state land mammal is a white tail, state water
- 25:41Speaker 1: mammal is a dolphin, state fish is a large mouth,
- 25:44Speaker 1: state waterfunnel is a wood duck, and state flour is
- 25:48Speaker 1: a magnolia. Does everybody have an answer?
- 25:52Speaker 3: I'm pretty sure I know a state where there's all those,
- 25:54Speaker 3: So put that down.
- 25:55Speaker 1: Go ahead and reveal your answers. We have Colin saying Louisiana,
- 25:59Speaker 1: Roman saying Florida, Tresa saying Texas, Max saying Florida, Randall
- 26:05Speaker 1: saying Louisiana, Chester saying Florida, Brody saying Georgia. Nobody got
- 26:11Speaker 1: it correct. Answer is Mississippi. One of the biggest hints
- 26:15Speaker 1: from that list was the state flower being named magnolia,
- 26:19Speaker 1: because Mississippi is known as the Magnolia state and has
- 26:23Speaker 1: a magnolia on their flag. Some other official symbols are
- 26:26Speaker 1: the state insect as a honeybee, reptile as a gator,
- 26:30Speaker 1: state shell as an oyster, and state bird as a
- 26:33Speaker 1: mocking bird. Question seven. We have a couple zero percenters
- 26:38Speaker 1: in this episode handful company that just boom bad on me.
- 26:46Speaker 1: Question seven, the topic is camping. What lemon grass oil
- 26:50Speaker 1: is often turned into candles and burned in lanterns as
- 26:53Speaker 1: a way to keep away bugs? Half the room is
- 26:59Speaker 1: very commonfident What lemon grass oil is often turned into
- 27:03Speaker 1: candles and burned in lanterns as a way to keep
- 27:06Speaker 1: away bugs. Six questions through this episode, I've not done
- 27:11Speaker 1: a very good job a minute had the flawed Southern
- 27:14Speaker 1: Living question. We have a couple of zero percenters, which isn't.
- 27:17Speaker 7: Nice, Tom, but you know you could be doing a
- 27:23Speaker 7: better job.
- 27:26Speaker 1: Listen, I'll admit this hasn't been great. Too many zero
- 27:29Speaker 1: percenters the flawed Southern Living question. Will see the other
- 27:34Speaker 1: room does with this one.
- 27:36Speaker 8: I think the benchmark for a good game of trivia
- 27:38Speaker 8: is who wins, and so we haven't gotten to that point.
- 27:42Speaker 1: So yeah, what where would it rank if like tressa
- 27:46Speaker 1: one for example?
- 27:47Speaker 2: Oh?
- 27:47Speaker 8: That would be fabulous the best episode?
- 27:50Speaker 4: Yeah?
- 27:51Speaker 8: Okay, I I loved the episode where Max one, that
- 27:54Speaker 8: was a great episode.
- 27:54Speaker 5: That was great.
- 27:55Speaker 1: Ye all, I'm not gonna witness the mosquito question.
- 28:05Speaker 8: There is the Headwaters of the Mississippi question. That was
- 28:08Speaker 8: a great episode.
- 28:09Speaker 7: Randal, what is wrong with you? Do you remember this?
- 28:14Speaker 5: I thought I've made that clear.
- 28:16Speaker 1: Here's the question one more time. The topic is camping.
- 28:18Speaker 1: What lemon grass oil is often turned into candles and
- 28:21Speaker 1: burned in lanterns as a way to keep away bugs.
- 28:23Speaker 1: As everybody ready, I spelt it wrong, but go ahead
- 28:26Speaker 1: and reveal your answers. We have Colin without an answer,
- 28:29Speaker 1: Rollman without an answer, and we have Tresa and Max
- 28:33Speaker 1: and Randall all saying citronella. Chester, do you have an answer?
- 28:38Speaker 1: Chester without an answer? Brody saying citronella. They got it.
- 28:41Speaker 1: The correct answer is citronella. If you did want to
- 28:44Speaker 1: spell it is c t ro O n e lll A.
- 28:49Speaker 1: Citronella oil is also common in soaps, perfumes, and lotions.
- 28:53Speaker 1: It's been registered as an insect repellent in the United
- 28:56Speaker 1: States since nineteen forty eight. Although it does determine skos,
- 29:00Speaker 1: science has shown that it's not very effective in candle form.
- 29:04Speaker 1: One study from twenty seventeen said, a citronella candle's protection
- 29:08Speaker 1: is no better than no protection at all.
- 29:10Speaker 5: Hey Max, can you play your mic cable back in
- 29:12Speaker 5: really quick?
- 29:12Speaker 1: Please?
- 29:14Speaker 5: Microphone cable it popped out.
- 29:16Speaker 1: It's a you got fuzzy fir second.
- 29:17Speaker 4: Thank you.
- 29:19Speaker 1: Question eight the topic is phishing. What is the anatomical
- 29:25Speaker 1: name for a fish's tailfin? What is the anatomical name
- 29:33Speaker 1: for a fish's tail fin?
- 29:38Speaker 8: Context would tell me you're not looking for tailfin.
- 29:41Speaker 1: Tailfin would be incorrect. Looking for the other name for
- 29:46Speaker 1: a tailfin coould be its anatomical name. What is the
- 29:55Speaker 1: anatomical name for a fish's tail should named about four others?
- 30:01Speaker 6: Okay, yeah, you just gotta start listing them in your
- 30:04Speaker 6: head and hopefully come up with it.
- 30:10Speaker 1: Confident that the room is leaking confidence. At this point,
- 30:14Speaker 1: no one looks sure.
- 30:16Speaker 2: What was the Shelby index A four?
- 30:20Speaker 1: This is question eight. We will go to scoreboard update
- 30:23Speaker 1: from Phil after this. What is the anatomical name for
- 30:27Speaker 1: a fish's tail fin? Brody? How do you feel about
- 30:32Speaker 1: your answer?
- 30:33Speaker 7: Man? I don't know, not good. Got a chance?
- 30:37Speaker 1: Okay, I think you're one of the only people to
- 30:39Speaker 1: come up with an answer. Tresta do you have an answer? Okay, Randall,
- 30:46Speaker 1: do you have a guess? I have some fins, but
- 30:50Speaker 1: I don't have this one.
- 30:52Speaker 7: Remember that Jimmy Buffett song Finns.
- 30:55Speaker 1: Yeah, it's a great song about a girl getting hit
- 30:58Speaker 1: on too much in a bar or in a go.
- 31:01Speaker 7: Jimmy Buffett, he liked to angle.
- 31:03Speaker 1: He loved Montana. Who did Some people say that Cheeseburger
- 31:10Speaker 1: in Paradise was about Paradise Valley, and then I think
- 31:13Speaker 1: he set the record straight. I don't know, maybe like
- 31:16Speaker 1: fifteen years ago, and said, I think it was about
- 31:19Speaker 1: being in the Caribbean and finally finding a place that
- 31:23Speaker 1: sold a burger that was beef instead of whatever mystery
- 31:28Speaker 1: meat or horse they had.
- 31:30Speaker 7: I don't think Jimmy Buffett was eating a lot of
- 31:32Speaker 7: horse burger, Spencer.
- 31:35Speaker 1: That's why it was a cheeseburger in Paradise when he
- 31:37Speaker 1: found a beef patty somewhere.
- 31:41Speaker 7: Sometime in the Caribbean.
- 31:43Speaker 1: Myself, did you struggle to find beef patties?
- 31:46Speaker 4: No?
- 31:47Speaker 7: But you know, maybe back in the day horse was
- 31:49Speaker 7: a thing.
- 31:51Speaker 1: Does everyone have an answer for the anatomical name for
- 31:53Speaker 1: a fish's tailfin? Ready, go ahead and reveal your answers.
- 31:58Speaker 1: We have Colin without an answer, without an answer, Tress
- 32:01Speaker 1: is saying at a pose, Max saying which one Dorsal,
- 32:07Speaker 1: Randall without an answer, Chester without an answer, Brody saying coddle.
- 32:11Speaker 1: Brody got it correct answer. It was coddle.
- 32:14Speaker 8: That was one of the ones I was thinking of
- 32:16Speaker 8: and ruled out.
- 32:18Speaker 1: Coddle is derived from a Latin word that means quote
- 32:21Speaker 1: near the tail. Some of the ways that coddle fins
- 32:24Speaker 1: can be categorized are rounded like snakehead, forked like whitefish,
- 32:29Speaker 1: truncated like salmon, or lunate like tuna.
- 32:33Speaker 7: That was a great question.
- 32:35Speaker 4: Every phil.
- 32:37Speaker 1: We have two questions left. Where does the scoreboard stand?
- 32:41Speaker 5: Well, we've got Tresa, Roman, and Colin and Chester. They've
- 32:45Speaker 5: all been eliminated from the game. I've got one point
- 32:47Speaker 5: a piece. Max is hanging on he's got two, and
- 32:50Speaker 5: then tied up in first place a Randall and Brody
- 32:52Speaker 5: with four points.
- 32:54Speaker 8: Now I'm trying to think of the name for the
- 32:56Speaker 8: finn that I thought was the caudal fin.
- 32:59Speaker 1: I don't know the tail fin. Question nine the topic
- 33:03Speaker 1: is public lands. This next great question comes to us
- 33:06Speaker 1: via Tyler Skaggs. What state is home? To Mammoth Cave
- 33:10Speaker 1: National Park in Lake Cumberland State Park? Confident? Randall and Brody?
- 33:18Speaker 1: What state is home to Mammoth Cave National Park and
- 33:22Speaker 1: Lake Cumberland State Park? Tressa Roman in college have not
- 33:28Speaker 1: picked up their boards? Max? Do you know this one? No? Okay,
- 33:33Speaker 1: Brody you know this? Randall, you know this?
- 33:36Speaker 4: I do.
- 33:37Speaker 1: Rest of the room not so sure. What state is
- 33:41Speaker 1: home to Mammoth Cave National Park in Lake Cumberland State Park? Chester?
- 33:50Speaker 1: How do you feel about your answer?
- 33:52Speaker 3: I'm trying to get my marker to work. Oh okay,
- 33:54Speaker 3: And while I'm doing that, I'm thinking.
- 33:57Speaker 1: It might be time to break out the new markers.
- 33:59Speaker 1: We've had a few listeners now that Unsolicited have sent
- 34:03Speaker 1: us markers. Every now and then we start with a
- 34:05Speaker 1: new package. We've had a lot of marker complaints lately.
- 34:09Speaker 8: Those those skinny black markers are just not not doing
- 34:15Speaker 8: the job.
- 34:15Speaker 1: Okay, What state is home to Mammoth Cave National Park
- 34:19Speaker 1: in Lake Cumberland State Park?
- 34:21Speaker 7: Doesn't got a monument and budget for markers?
- 34:24Speaker 4: Or did that?
- 34:25Speaker 7: Fact checkers beat up all your budget?
- 34:27Speaker 1: All of our budget. That's why our listeners have to
- 34:30Speaker 1: donate them to us. It's everybody ready, go ahead and
- 34:33Speaker 1: reveal your answers. We have Colins saying Tennessee, Roman saying California,
- 34:38Speaker 1: Tresa saying Nevada, Max saying Virginia, Randall saying Kentucky, Chester
- 34:43Speaker 1: saying Kentucky, Brody saying Kentucky. They got it. The correct
- 34:46Speaker 1: answer is Kentucky. Mammoth Cave is the longest cave system
- 34:51Speaker 1: in the world. The park is fifty two thousand acres
- 34:54Speaker 1: with four hundred and twenty six miles of cave passageways.
- 34:58Speaker 1: Several bodies of ancient and humans have been discovered in
- 35:01Speaker 1: the cave, some of which were buried there and others
- 35:04Speaker 1: that died of accidents. Phil we have one question left.
- 35:08Speaker 1: Do we have Randall and Brody tied with five?
- 35:10Speaker 5: That's right, and they're the only two left in the game.
- 35:13Speaker 1: Question ten. The topic is cooking. Name one of the
- 35:18Speaker 1: two most popular wood pellet flavors according to Bear Mountain Barbecue.
- 35:24Speaker 3: Hmmm.
- 35:24Speaker 1: Bear Mountain Barbecue is a pellet distributor. This is from them.
- 35:30Speaker 1: They said that these are the two most popular wood
- 35:33Speaker 1: pellet flavors. You need to name one of them. Very
- 35:38Speaker 1: confident Max and Colin. Colin do you use pellet grills
- 35:43Speaker 1: a lot. I could ask a question, but I feel
- 35:46Speaker 1: like i'd just be oh myself. It's not gonna be
- 35:51Speaker 1: some weird answer like premium signature select pellets.
- 35:55Speaker 7: Yeah, I know. Okay, there's still a question I want
- 35:58Speaker 7: to ask, but I can't.
- 35:59Speaker 1: Okay.
- 36:00Speaker 8: Oh that's good.
- 36:01Speaker 1: Mhm, Colin, one is it one word? I'm not gonna
- 36:09Speaker 1: tell you. Can you spell it?
- 36:14Speaker 8: Name?
- 36:15Speaker 1: One of the two most popular pellet flavors.
- 36:19Speaker 2: I'm trying to think of the answer you're thinking of.
- 36:21Speaker 1: Then it is? Everybody ready, Yes, go ahead and reveal
- 36:29Speaker 1: your answers. Colin saying Cherry, Romans saying Oh, tress Is
- 36:34Speaker 1: saying Apple, Max saying, Hickory, Randall saying Mosquite Chester saying
- 36:39Speaker 1: Hickory Brody saying Hickory Brody, and Randall. One of you
- 36:44Speaker 1: is right, of you is wrong. The correct answers are
- 36:48Speaker 1: Apple and Hickory, making Brody our winner with six correct answers.
- 36:56Speaker 1: These two flavors are also the top sellers at places
- 36:58Speaker 1: like Home Depot, and according to Camp Chef, Hickory produces
- 37:02Speaker 1: a robust aroma that's perfect for red meat, white meat,
- 37:06Speaker 1: and pork, and Apple has a subtle fruity flavor that's
- 37:09Speaker 1: ideal for white meat, pork, vegetables and baked goods. Brody,
- 37:14Speaker 1: what was your hang up on that question?
- 37:16Speaker 7: Nothing? I just wanted like I was wondering if maybe
- 37:19Speaker 7: it was some blend or something.
- 37:21Speaker 1: Don't worry about it's stupid.
- 37:25Speaker 7: But you know, we just finished up a book, Spencer.
- 37:29Speaker 6: Okay, all this stuff all different kinds of outdoor cooking methods.
- 37:34Speaker 1: Okay, what's in your pellet grill right now? What kind
- 37:37Speaker 1: of pellets you think?
- 37:38Speaker 6: I usually don't go with the heavy stuff, man, I
- 37:41Speaker 6: like the mild, like apple, cherry, stuff like that.
- 37:44Speaker 1: When does that book come.
- 37:45Speaker 6: Out next spring?
- 37:46Speaker 1: I think next May?
- 37:48Speaker 7: Meat Eat or Outdoor Cookbook would be good.
- 37:50Speaker 1: So does it talk about pellet grills or is it
- 37:52Speaker 1: likely Smoker's pellet grills grills his charcoal grills? Very good?
- 37:57Speaker 3: All that stuff?
- 37:59Speaker 1: Brody wins with six correct answers, Brody, where is the
- 38:02Speaker 1: five hundred dollars donation from Meat Eater going to go?
- 38:06Speaker 7: There's a lot of folks out there in the Elk
- 38:08Speaker 7: Woods right now, so let's do Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation.
- 38:11Speaker 1: Have you been out in the Elk Woods yet?
- 38:13Speaker 6: I was out in the grouse woods near where there's
