- Twenty-five thousand people. Deported to countries they've never seen. This is The Gospel Briefing. I'm Charles King. The Supreme Court ruled Tuesday. The Trump administration can keep deporting migrants to third countries while the justices weigh whether the policy is legal. Under a series of often-secret agreements, some twenty-five thousand people have already been sent to more than two dozen countries. Liberia. Guyana. Most to Mexico. Federal attorneys say the lower court ruling forced the cancellation of one flight carrying about seventy people bound for three different countries. The high court will now hear whether migrants must get a meaningful chance to object before being flown somewhere they have no ties. The government says these are people with final deportation orders whose home countries won't take them back. Receiving governments, they say, promise the migrants won't be tortured. Attorneys for the migrants describe something else. People imprisoned in countries they'd never heard of. People with no criminal record. People a court already found to be at real risk of persecution. Both things can be true. A nation has authority to enforce its borders. A person made in God's image has a claim to be heard before he's put on a plane. Scripture doesn't hand us an immigration policy. It does hand us Proverbs eighteen, verse thirteen: "If one gives an answer before he hears, it is his folly and shame." Hearing comes before deciding. That isn't left or right. That's wisdom. Keep Proverbs eighteen open in Bible Copilot and sit with that today. Development two. And I'm not sorry about it. Backpack has been crowned the twenty twenty-six Fat Bear Week champion at Katmai National Park in Alaska. One hundred three thousand, three hundred thirty-four votes. He narrowly beat bear nine-ten. Backpack's mother, Holly, won the crown in twenty nineteen. As a cub, Backpack rode on her back through the river. That's how he got the name. At two, a serious leg injury nearly killed him. Rangers weren't sure he'd survive. He did. Now he's in the Hall of Champions. Genesis one calls creation good. Sometimes a faithful response to a heavy news day is noticing a healed bear in an Alaskan river and thanking the God who made him. Development three, and it's heavy. A jury in Miami County, Ohio, has found former American Idol contestant and church worship leader Caleb Flynn guilty of murdering his wife, Ashley, at their home in February. Prosecutors said Flynn wanted to keep his mistress, his job with his wife's family business, and his platform at the church, without the cost of divorce. Testimony revealed a message where he spoke of wanting to kill his wife and, quote, "not go to Hell for it." A man calculating how to murder his wife and still make it to heaven. Jesus said it in Matthew seven: not everyone who says "Lord, Lord" will enter the kingdom. A microphone on Sunday doesn't sanctify a heart on Monday. Pray today for Ashley's daughters, and for a church learning, again, that platform is not proof of Christ. Pray for wisdom today before you repeat what you have heard. This episode is presented by Bible Copilot. Today's verse is Micah seven, verse eight. Open Bible Copilot and study the Verse of the Day first. Micah seven, verse eight: "Rejoice not over me, O my enemy; when I fall, I shall rise; when I sit in darkness, the Lord will be a light to me." A migrant on a plane. A woman silenced in her own bedroom. A country arguing about who gets heard. The Lord sees every one of them. Thanks for listening to The Gospel Briefing. Carry the hearing before the deciding into your day. We'll see you tomorrow.
