- 0:00Have you ever looked at your life, the messes, the mistakes, the mundane routines, and wondered, is God speaking to me?
- 0:08Maybe you don't doubt that he speaks to holy people or leaders, but you doubt your own significance.
- 0:15You wonder if you're worthy enough to receive a personal message in the middle of your everyday chaos.
- 0:22Well, my friend, you are in the right place.
- 0:24And by the end of today's episode, you will understand your identity as a child of light and I, and why your worthiness was never a barrier to God's voice.
- 0:34We're going to help you solve spiritual invisibility by looking at the God who found Hagar in the wilderness and the woman at the well, women who probably thought they were nobodies.
- 0:46We're moving from why would he speak to me?
- 0:49To I know he is.
- 0:52Stay tuned.
- 0:54Ordinary women, extraordinary faith.
- 0:58When God calls, we say yes.
- 1:01The Arise Women of God Podcast Podcast hello, and welcome to another episode of the Arise Woman of God podcast.
- 1:08I'm your host, Tamara K.
- 1:09Anderson, and joining me is the terrific and very talented Tiffany Fletcher, a member of our Women warriors of Light Advisory board.
- 1:18And today we're diving into the heart of identity and how it dictates our ability to hear.
- 1:24First, we're going to discuss the Hagar principle, why he is the God who sees me even in my most lonely wilderness moments.
- 1:33Second, we're going to talk about the listening threshold, why Mother Teresa believed that listening isn't just a part of prayer, it's the beginning of it.
- 1:43Third, we're going to explore the spiritual fingerprint, the unique way God communicates with you through warmth, thoughts, or even a pit in the stomach.
- 1:55Warning.
- 1:56And finally, we'll talk about the one signal the adversary can't replicate.
- 2:01But let's kick it off by looking at a story clear back in the Old Testament.
- 2:06I love the story of Hagar.
- 2:07I love how when she felt that she was being cast out, she took her son and she went into the wilderness, and there she prayed to God and God spoke to her.
- 2:16A servant woman.
- 2:18God spoke to her, and she called him the God who sees me.
- 2:23If God can see a servant woman in the wilderness, he can see us.
- 2:28He can see us in our wilderness.
- 2:30He can see us in our closets.
- 2:33He can see us in our gardens.
- 2:35He can even see us in our bathrooms.
- 2:37And he can speak to us and talk with us sometimes as moms.
- 2:41That's the only place we have where there's a quiet moment, right?
- 2:44And it still matters to him.
- 2:46It's still he is the God who sees us and he speaks to us and he loves us so desperately and he wants us to know that he is there and he does know our name.
- 2:58And I think that is such a beautiful concept and something that we all need to remember probably more than we do.
- 3:05He sees you exactly where you are.
- 3:08Isn't that great to know?
- 3:09He even says in Isaiah, I have called thee by thy name, Thou art mine.
- 3:16Once we realize God is already looking at us through the lens of love, it changes how we approach Him.
- 3:24It moves us from a place of fear to a place of desire to connect with Him.
- 3:30And as Mother Teresa taught that desire begins with silence.
- 3:36I love that quote because it talks about how listening is the beginning of prayer.
- 3:39Isn't that interesting?
- 3:40Like, we think that prayer is like, God, I need this and I need this, and can you please do this?
- 3:45And you know, is us speaking to God, but really the beginning of prayer is us being willing to sit and listen.
- 3:52Like, of course we need to talk to him, but being able to listen for his voice and not just end the prayer and be like, in the name of Jesus Christ, Amen, but just listening.
- 4:02That is when communion happens.
- 4:04Like, it's not about us talking at him, it's about us talking with him and then listening for his answers and giving time for that.
- 4:14And I think that that's such a beautiful way that we can say our prayers in a more intentional way.
- 4:20Communion is a two way street.
- 4:23But as you start to listen, you might notice that the way that God speaks to you doesn't sound like the way he speaks to your best friend.
- 4:32That's because your spiritual connection is, as you know, unique as your fingerprint.
- 4:38I know in my experience, God speaks.
- 4:40To each of us differently.
- 4:42Just like we have different fingerprints from each other.
- 4:46Like, the way God speaks to each of us is so unique and individual.
- 4:51And you can find, you know, different examples in the scriptures.
- 4:55For example, on the road to Emmaus, the disciples said, said after they realized who Jesus was while he'd been walking with them, he's like, oh, didn't our hearts burn within us?
- 5:08So maybe for some it's that warmth in the chest.
- 5:12They feel that love, perhaps of God or a witness from the Holy Ghost, this is Jesus, this is God speaking to you, right?
- 5:22Sometimes it's a thought that pops into your mind that, hey, do something good.
- 5:29Or hey, I love you.
- 5:31Or a warning like, hey, you shouldn't do that.
- 5:33You know what I mean?
- 5:36But those thoughts point you to good and steer you away from evil.
- 5:40Generally that's How I know they're coming from God.
- 5:43Yeah, I love that.
- 5:45I think it is true that we.
- 5:46God speaks to us all in different ways, and it's important that we ask him how he speaks to us.
- 5:51For me, it's a thought enlightenment or it's like a warm blanket.
- 5:56Like, I have a thought and I just feel warm.
- 5:57I just feel like it's.
- 5:59Yes, this is definitely a direction I need to go.
- 6:02And when it's not the right thing, God always tells me in my stomach.
- 6:06I just feel, like, nauseous in the pit of my stomach, I'm like, oh, that is not the direction that he wants me to go at this time.
- 6:12That is a big no.
- 6:14And God speaks to me often in music.
- 6:16Interestingly enough, I love Christian music.
- 6:19And I.
- 6:19I feel like God speaks through music to me so many times about his love for me, maybe direction I should go.
- 6:28And.
- 6:28And I think that that is a really helpful way.
- 6:31Like, sometimes we question.
- 6:33Well, I don't know if that thought is mine or if it's God's, so.
- 6:36But I.
- 6:37I find that when I listen to music or when I read scriptures with a question, that the answer always comes, and it's beautiful.
- 6:45Especially like scriptures.
- 6:46I.
- 6:47Sometimes I'll just open up my Bible and I'll be like, okay, God, this is my.
- 6:52Need you to answer this.
- 6:53And I'll just read.
- 6:54And it.
- 6:55It's so strange that the answer will come.
- 6:58I mean, it's not strange.
- 6:59It's God, because that's how he speaks to us.
- 7:01And.
- 7:02And so sometimes we.
- 7:03If in the traditional way of, oh, well, is that thought.
- 7:06Mine are heavenly fathers, then we can just go to the Scriptures.
- 7:09We can ask questions.
- 7:10And he will use the scriptures to speak to us.
- 7:12He'll use music to speak to us.
- 7:13He'll use others even to speak to us.
- 7:16Sometimes an answer will come through the thought that is given to us by a friend.
- 7:21And all of those are beautiful ways that he can give us the answers that we need in our life.
- 7:27That's beautiful.
- 7:28The only thing I would tack on to that is that feeling of peace.
- 7:32I love the feeling of peace.
- 7:33And it's the one feeling that the adversary cannot.
- 7:36He cannot replicate peace.
- 7:38And so if you're feeling peace, that is God speaking to you.
- 7:41It's him comforting you.
- 7:43I love the scripture where Jesus says, before he leaves his disciples, my peace I give unto you.
- 7:49Not as the world giveth, give I unto you.
- 7:51You know, let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.
- 7:54God can speak peace to us.
- 7:56Even in troubled times.
- 7:59Like I know this is hard, but he can give us peace and strength to walk through trials and hard things with Him.
- 8:07If you are feeling peace today, God is speaking to you.
- 8:11He knows your name, he sees your wilderness and he is waiting for you to come.
- 8:17Spend time with Him.
- 8:19Sit, talk and listen.
