- 0:10SPEAKER_00: Hello, gang.
- 0:11SPEAKER_00: How are we?
- 0:12SPEAKER_00: Another podcast.
- 0:13SPEAKER_00: Everybody doing good?
- 0:14SPEAKER_00: Good.
- 0:15SPEAKER_00: Great.
- 0:15SPEAKER_01: Great.
- 0:16SPEAKER_01: Identify yourselves.
- 0:17SPEAKER_01: Until we get this, uh until we get this video up.
- 0:20SPEAKER_04: Hello running.
- 0:21SPEAKER_01: I'm waiting on two girls.
- 0:22SPEAKER_04: I'm waiting on a budget.
- 0:24SPEAKER_01: I gave it to you.
- 0:25SPEAKER_04: You did not.
- 0:26SPEAKER_01: I did, Sean.
- 0:26SPEAKER_04: Give it to me.
- 0:29SPEAKER_03: Neither one of you gave me a budget.
- 0:30SPEAKER_01: I did.
- 0:31SPEAKER_01: I did.
- 0:31SPEAKER_03: You know what?
- 0:32SPEAKER_03: Let's just surprise them with it.
- 0:36SPEAKER_01: Anything we go over comes out with.
- 0:38SPEAKER_01: Kelly, you're the boss.
- 0:39SPEAKER_04: You have the budget.
- 0:40SPEAKER_04: The boss.
- 0:41SPEAKER_01: A boss.
- 0:42SPEAKER_04: I'm the boss.
- 0:43SPEAKER_01: Co-boss.
- 0:44SPEAKER_01: Co-boss.
- 0:45SPEAKER_04: I'm the boss at home.
- 0:46SPEAKER_04: I'm not the boss here.
- 0:48SPEAKER_01: Oh man, oh man.
- 0:50SPEAKER_01: Co-boss.
- 0:52SPEAKER_01: So anyway, that's coming.
- 0:55SPEAKER_04: Hey, uh, can I uh circle back around really fast on the the gifts are given without repentance?
- 1:02SPEAKER_04: Yeah, absolutely.
- 1:03SPEAKER_04: Okay.
- 1:03SPEAKER_00: Where you go for it, girl.
- 1:05SPEAKER_04: So I used logos, which Sean uses too, which I don't know if I said this last week.
- 1:10SPEAKER_04: And that has an AI feature, but it doesn't search the web, it searches the Bible and then searches its book, its library book.
- 1:18SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it's it does it searches everything that you have in your logos program, right?
- 1:22SPEAKER_00: Yes.
- 1:22SPEAKER_04: So it's more trustful than Google.
- 1:26SPEAKER_04: But anyway, he is saying in Romans 11 29, he's actually talking about um Israel, God not being, not regretting like Israel being the chosen people.
- 1:40SPEAKER_04: So it's not personal spiritual gifts, which is how I have read it before and I've heard it before.
- 1:47SPEAKER_04: But then I asked, um, but it is true that individual spiritual gifts are not revoked because of sin.
- 1:59SPEAKER_04: And this is what it says, which was interesting.
- 2:01SPEAKER_04: No, spiritual gifts are not withdrawn when misused, they function as genuine gifts rather than conditional loans, which is why Paul writes that the gifts and the calling of God are irrevocable.
- 2:14SPEAKER_04: But it does say um so why God does not revoke the gifts itself, misuse creates spiritual jeopardy.
- 2:26SPEAKER_04: The true measure isn't in the gifts themselves, but in their fruits, character obedience.
- 2:30SPEAKER_04: And it does say somewhere that then you obviously will have to stand before Jesus and give a an account on how you use the gifts that you have.
- 2:39SPEAKER_04: So they are not revoked because of if you're not gonna be able to do it.
- 2:42SPEAKER_01: If you think about the musical talent of people and that gift, and you're like, wow, but they're not using it.
- 2:50SPEAKER_01: They're still gifted.
- 2:51SPEAKER_01: Yeah, they're just not using it.
- 2:52SPEAKER_04: But that's why I think too, when you when the scripture, because I think what we're talking about was when he says, Oh Lord, Lord, have I not done these things in your name?
- 2:59SPEAKER_04: And he said, Depart from me, I never knew you.
- 3:01SPEAKER_04: Right.
- 3:01SPEAKER_04: So yes, you are healing people, whatever else you're doing.
- 3:07SPEAKER_04: Well, it's because he's the but you're misusing it.
- 3:09SPEAKER_01: Despite us, yeah, you know.
- 3:11SPEAKER_03: Well, even if you're talking about specifically the spiritual gifts, not just like a talent.
- 3:16SPEAKER_03: Yes, I've heard testimonies of people that like went from being a medium or something, like they can discern and like watch spirits and stuff, and then become Christian, and that is their spiritual gift.
- 3:28SPEAKER_03: They're like, oh, I can see it.
- 3:29SPEAKER_03: Nope, nope.
- 3:30SPEAKER_04: That's exactly what I was thinking too.
- 3:33SPEAKER_01: So good.
- 3:34SPEAKER_04: Like your spiritual gift can be used for good and it can also be used for evil.
- 3:38SPEAKER_03: I saw it too in a a wonderful Bible teacher who then huge moral failure, non-repentant, just skips and makes a new church, still a wonderful teacher.
- 3:50SPEAKER_03: I don't love the character behind the person.
- 3:53SPEAKER_03: I would never trust them anymore.
- 3:55SPEAKER_03: But like just a gift of teaching what they're saying, it's so good.
- 3:58SPEAKER_03: But I don't think it's being used for the Lord anymore.
- 4:02SPEAKER_00: Well, I mean, I think Jamie Jamie remembers this because we've talked about it, but there was uh a pastor way before us that like obviously had a moral failure and told, you know, a s a large group of people, but he was a teacher, really good teacher, drew a lot of people, and um told a lot of people like, Hey, you can't afford not to have me here.
- 4:22SPEAKER_00: Like, because you're gonna lose a lot of people if you don't.
- 4:24SPEAKER_00: You know what I'm saying?
- 4:25SPEAKER_00: Well then they were like, Well, yes, we can.
- 4:27SPEAKER_00: You know, you're gonna have to go do your own thing.
- 4:28SPEAKER_00: We're not gonna cover you anymore, you know, kind of thing, because he was a part of a denomination, and then he chose not to be a part of that anymore, you know what I'm saying?
- 4:36SPEAKER_00: And so and I don't know that you really his ministry ever was as effective uh after that, you know, kind of thing.
- 4:42SPEAKER_04: But you know, and it does feel unfair when you're like all right, God, I'm here, this you know, Joe Schmo, me, normal guy, doing what I'm supposed to be doing, and then you see other people.
- 4:54SPEAKER_04: It like feels like they get ahead in life sometimes more than just the normal person, but when they stand before the Lord, everyone stands before the Lord.
- 5:02SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 5:03SPEAKER_04: I mean, I think about worldly things looking at the thing.
- 5:08SPEAKER_01: No names, but like for like 18 years, yeah.
- 5:12SPEAKER_01: Had a you know, had a had an ongoing affair with someone and in that whole process created one of the largest youth ministries in in the States, and then planted a church highly successful, growing, booming, and then that that's caught.
- 5:30SPEAKER_01: And uh obviously uh same thing of what you talked about, Case.
- 5:34SPEAKER_01: It's like you know, that's taken away, there's a a season of restoration, and oh, let's start over again and let's try it again.
- 5:44SPEAKER_01: And uh you you think like for 18 years, what seemed to be fruitful was yeah, I mean, people were getting saved, uh ministries quote unquote was growing, new church, all these things, and it's like wow, all that despite that, which just shows, right, God is bigger than you know our failure.
- 6:06SPEAKER_00: And well, and what's fruitful is God's truth.
- 6:09SPEAKER_00: Right, yes, not that human being.
- 6:11SPEAKER_00: Sure.
- 6:11SPEAKER_00: Because obviously when that human being faced, like you said, when he faces God, he's gonna realize, oh crud, I got the wrong fruit.
- 6:17SPEAKER_01: We were we were leaving uh granite and uh going to Omaha, and someone said like something about like, do you find it harder to be here like like ministry is now not good because we're supposed to be leaving.
- 6:31SPEAKER_01: And I remember going, like, I think no matter where I'm at, people should be getting saved.
- 6:38SPEAKER_01: Regardless if if I'm you know where exactly God has me and and I or I'm running from it, like if I'm if my heart is God, where do you want me to be?
- 6:49SPEAKER_01: And maybe I've not moved there yet, I think no matter where it's at, like I don't think it should be like, man, I'm I'm preaching, and it seems like this ministry isn't going well.
- 6:59SPEAKER_01: I need to move on.
- 7:00SPEAKER_01: It's like how we put parameters on things is mind-blowing.
- 7:05SPEAKER_04: It's because people think ministry is preaching.
- 7:07SPEAKER_04: Wow and ministry is ministering to people around you every day.
- 7:10SPEAKER_00: That's true.
- 7:11SPEAKER_00: Well, it's the uh do you do you um this statement?
- 7:14SPEAKER_00: Does God which one do you does God bless people or does God bless his word?
- 7:18SPEAKER_04: His word.
- 7:20SPEAKER_00: I mean he does bless people, but they are what?
- 7:22SPEAKER_00: Underneath his word.
- 7:23SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah.
- 7:24SPEAKER_00: When they get when they remove themselves, like now I don't get me wrong, like as a non-Christian, like uh if I'm a non-Christian and I am in relationship with someone that is underneath the word of God, you know what I'm saying?
- 7:35SPEAKER_00: And I start practicing some of the things they're practicing, I think that I'll receive blessing from that.
- 7:40SPEAKER_00: So like like let's say I'm not a I'm not a I'm not a Christian and I need a car and a Christian blesses me.
- 7:45SPEAKER_00: Like, am I you know I'm saying, like, I'm not saying I can't benefit from the blessing of God.
- 7:48SPEAKER_00: Sure.
- 7:49SPEAKER_00: At the same time, I I don't think it's about the person.
- 7:51SPEAKER_00: I think it's about the truth or well, and whatever.
- 7:54SPEAKER_01: It goes back to the am I am I seeking the miracle or am I seeking the miracle worker?
- 7:58SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 7:59SPEAKER_01: The one who does the miracle, you know, and that's uh and that's why I think Isaiah says, like, you honor me with your lips, but your your hearts are so far.
- 8:07SPEAKER_01: You like what I have to say, you like how I'm providing for you, but your hearts are way over here.
- 8:13SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 8:14SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah.
- 8:15SPEAKER_00: And if it's about making Jesus famous, it's it's about what's happening here in our hearts, not necessarily what's happening outside of you know, kind of thing.
- 8:24SPEAKER_00: Great thoughts there, Kelly.
- 8:27SPEAKER_00: She went part two on us real fast.
- 8:29SPEAKER_04: Like last week I said, I'll come back, and I didn't want to nod.
- 8:32SPEAKER_01: So it's really good.
- 8:34SPEAKER_01: For those of you that stayed to the end last week, you know exactly what we're talking about.
- 8:40SPEAKER_01: But anyway.
- 8:40unknown: Yeah.
- 8:46SPEAKER_00: And uh anything you want to start with, Pastor Jamie, from the message or no?
- 8:51SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I I mean, I just I feel like there's a lot of contention that's happening with people, and uh I loved your opening illustration, bro.
- 8:59SPEAKER_00: I didn't know that story or watched that video.
- 9:01SPEAKER_00: Like I was like, that was incredible.
- 9:03SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 9:04SPEAKER_00: So it was really good.
- 9:05SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 9:06SPEAKER_01: Um, you know, I think Jude, you know, I kind of stumbled upon Jude a couple uh weeks ago where I was just like uh looking for a book to just kind of divulge and you know, I was like, oh 25 verses, but uh, you know, like verse three just instantly like hit uh when it comes to contending, just because I think what we contend for and how we keep going, I think is um you know always interesting because I think there's a there's a mindset in Christianity that because I prayed it or because I'm living this, God's just gonna give it to me.
- 9:43SPEAKER_04: And it's like, well that's called prosperity gospel.
- 9:46SPEAKER_01: Well, I I understand that, but I think there's also a mindset of like, well, I'm gonna get married and some of these other things are gonna get easier, or I've been addicted to pornography, but because I'm married now, I won't be addicted to pornography, or I'm gonna hang out with these friends, and because I'm hanging out with these friends, I'm gonna make better life choices and things are gonna be easier for me.
- 10:06SPEAKER_01: I think we're always looking for easy, yet there's time and time, especially in the Old Testament, where God was like, I need you to get up and contend for battle.
- 10:15SPEAKER_01: Yes, I've given you this land, but it doesn't mean you're gonna walk in, it's gonna be easy.
- 10:20SPEAKER_01: And that's why I think Joshua and Caleb and hit their mindset was, yeah, God said it, but yeah, there's giants there, but I'm believing God's gonna destroy those giants.
- 10:31SPEAKER_01: I think there's a mindset that because God said it, I'm gonna just sit back and let it happen.
- 10:36SPEAKER_01: And it's like, well, you know, I wanted to share with you about the salvation that we, you know, have in common, but I felt compelled and urged, you know, urged you to contend for the faith.
- 10:47SPEAKER_01: You know, I'm asking you to to fight for this thing.
- 10:50SPEAKER_01: And again, I like you know, I I instantly think Braveheart, you know what I mean?
- 10:56SPEAKER_01: Like, come on, Ben.
- 10:57SPEAKER_01: You know what I mean?
- 10:57SPEAKER_01: It's like all of a sudden you got this on, like, you can't take my freedom.
- 11:01SPEAKER_01: You know what I mean?
- 11:02SPEAKER_01: It's like, you know, like I'm contending, like I again, like I know the end of the story, so I know we win.
- 11:09SPEAKER_01: Um, and when you have that perspective you come at it from a different angle of just going like, shit, what do we have to lose here?
- 11:18SPEAKER_01: Yep.
- 11:19SPEAKER_01: Let's let's do this thing.
- 11:20SPEAKER_04: But I've been reading Nehemiah because I just I've been spending so much time in the New Testament.
- 11:25SPEAKER_04: I was like, I want to spend somewhere in the Old Testament, so I just start with Nehemiah.
- 11:29SPEAKER_04: And I was reading Nehemiah 4 today.
- 11:32SPEAKER_04: So this is first, uh, it's chapter 4, verse 14.
- 11:36SPEAKER_04: And so he's rebuilding, and the enemies have come, and they're saying they're gonna what they're gonna do, tear it down.
- 11:44SPEAKER_04: And he comes and he's Nehemiah comes and he says, Then I, as I looked over the situation, I called together the nobles and the rest of the people and said to them, Don't be afraid of the enemy.
- 11:54SPEAKER_04: Remember the Lord who is great and glorious, and fight for your brothers, your sons, your daughters, your wives, and your homes.
- 12:01SPEAKER_04: And I I think sometimes as Christians, we don't think that we have to fight for anything.
- 12:06SPEAKER_04: Like, I love Jesus, I gave my heart to the Lord.
- 12:09SPEAKER_04: Like, why should I have to fight?
- 12:11SPEAKER_04: Fighting is bad, fighting is wrong.
- 12:12SPEAKER_04: But if you read the Bible, they're fighting all the time.
- 12:15SPEAKER_04: Like they're always fighting for something and doing it because God told them to do it.
- 12:22SPEAKER_01: So Well, I've heard this statement a couple times, and I've even heard it this week.
- 12:26SPEAKER_01: Someone said, I'm fighting for my family.
- 12:28SPEAKER_01: And I looked at him and I said, What does that mean?
- 12:31SPEAKER_01: Like, what do you mean by that?
- 12:32SPEAKER_01: You're fighting for your family.
- 12:34SPEAKER_01: And this individual said, like, what it means to me is that I'm staying the course.
- 12:40SPEAKER_01: I'm gonna do the right things.
- 12:42SPEAKER_01: I want to be faithful for my family.
- 12:44SPEAKER_01: I'm like, okay, that that that makes sense to me.
- 12:48SPEAKER_01: Like, I I understand what you're saying.
- 12:50SPEAKER_01: Um, but I think it's also a statement we throw around.
- 12:52SPEAKER_01: I'm fighting for this, I'm fighting for that, I'm fighting for my job, I'm fighting for my family.
- 12:56SPEAKER_01: Like, and it's like, okay, so what what do we some people just like to fight?
- 13:00SPEAKER_01: You know what I mean?
- 13:01SPEAKER_01: Like, I mean, you've been around those people.
- 13:03SPEAKER_01: Like, my gosh, everything always turns into a fight with you.
- 13:06SPEAKER_01: And you're like, you're just a fighter.
- 13:08SPEAKER_01: Now we just need to get you to fight for the right team, you know.
- 13:10SPEAKER_01: It's like so true.
- 13:11SPEAKER_01: Uh but I think anytime you use the word contend, I think people go, okay, um, there's something that carries here that it's like this is worth fighting for.
- 13:22SPEAKER_01: So like I'm contending for my marriage because it's worth it.
- 13:24SPEAKER_01: I'm contending for my kids because it's worth it.
- 13:27SPEAKER_01: Uh I'm contending for the faith, what Paul or what Jude is saying.
- 13:30SPEAKER_01: I'm contending for the faith because it's it's worth it.
- 13:34SPEAKER_01: You know, it it's worth this fight.
- 13:36SPEAKER_03: So I think can go ahead.
- 13:37SPEAKER_03: No, no.
- 13:38SPEAKER_03: I think contending for your marriage, your kids, your discipline, whatever, isn't because currently there's something hard going on, too.
- 13:45SPEAKER_03: I had heard, I can't even remember where I heard this.
- 13:47SPEAKER_03: It's been a long time, but now it's on my mind all probably daily, is that nothing is neutral.
- 13:52SPEAKER_03: And so it's like anything that you think is just neutral is going in one direction or the other in whatever it is, selfish, selfishness towards God, towards the enemy, towards whatever.
- 14:04SPEAKER_03: Like nothing's just neutral.
- 14:06SPEAKER_03: So even if your marriage, like I think too about raising Christian kids, people are just like, Well, I hope I raise Christian kids.
- 14:12SPEAKER_03: And it's like, how are you actively like having those talks in your home?
- 14:16SPEAKER_03: Like, are you just hoping that you know a church attendance does that or like a random Bible verse here and there?
- 14:24SPEAKER_03: Is I so I'm always my mind is always like, which direction is this?
- 14:28SPEAKER_03: Because I'm not a go-getter.
- 14:30SPEAKER_03: I'm not a fighter.
- 14:32SPEAKER_03: I like I would love for things to just be neutral.
- 14:34SPEAKER_04: It's just more comfortable that way.
- 14:36SPEAKER_04: But Nehemiah closes out chapter four.
- 14:38SPEAKER_04: And this is how this is actually what I do think of you, Casey.
- 14:41SPEAKER_04: For this is for real, not just being nice.
- 14:44SPEAKER_04: Oh, she got a oh good.
- 14:45SPEAKER_04: No, no, this is good.
- 14:46SPEAKER_04: So he says, during this time, this is like when they're working on the wall.
- 14:50SPEAKER_04: During this time, none of us, not I, nor my relatives, nor my servants, nor the guards who were with me ever took our clothes off our clothes.
- 15:00SPEAKER_04: We carried our weapons with us at all times, even when we went with her water.
- 15:04SPEAKER_04: Oh, okay.
- 15:04SPEAKER_04: So this whole time that they were working on the wall.
- 15:06SPEAKER_04: Once they still armed working and they were armed, yeah.
- 15:10SPEAKER_04: He says, We never even undressed.
- 15:12SPEAKER_04: We never took our weapons off that.
- 15:13SPEAKER_01: She's saying that because you wear the same clothes.
- 15:15SPEAKER_02: That's right.
- 15:16SPEAKER_02: That is not what I do.
- 15:18SPEAKER_02: I know.
- 15:20SPEAKER_04: Nothing wrong with conversations with you, though.
- 15:22SPEAKER_04: That's always on your mind.
- 15:24SPEAKER_04: Like you can never take down your guard.
- 15:27SPEAKER_04: And I think we do well.
- 15:30SPEAKER_01: I like the illustration of going for water, where you think, like, oh, I want you to find here.
- 15:35SPEAKER_01: This is just I'm just getting water.
- 15:37SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 15:37SPEAKER_03: Well, you know what happened?
- 15:39SPEAKER_03: This just crossed my mind when you said that.
- 15:41SPEAKER_03: We went on a family trip a week ago before Hayden left for work.
- 15:45SPEAKER_01: Which is different than a vacation.
- 15:47SPEAKER_03: I mean, it was really fun, but yes, I agree with what you're saying.
- 15:50SPEAKER_03: And my guard's down on like we're just chilling.
- 15:53SPEAKER_03: We're not doing our little daily family things or whatever.
- 15:56SPEAKER_03: Like, we're just chilling.
- 15:58SPEAKER_03: And um, yeah, we're neutral.
- 16:00SPEAKER_03: And there was there was like regular local channels or whatever.
- 16:05SPEAKER_03: And so we had let the girls one night eat popcorn and watch like Paw Patrol in their room or whatever.
- 16:10SPEAKER_03: Well, I was went in there and was trying to find something else in the guide and the guide commercials.
- 16:17SPEAKER_03: I didn't see it.
- 16:18SPEAKER_03: But Sage goes, What?
- 16:19SPEAKER_03: Why is a boy kissing a boy?
- 16:22SPEAKER_03: And I was like, What?
- 16:23SPEAKER_03: Why do you say that?
- 16:24SPEAKER_03: And she was like, It's on that small screen up there.
- 16:26SPEAKER_03: And I was like, What?
- 16:28SPEAKER_03: I have real live TV on in front of them for probably the first time in their life for two seconds, and she's seeing stuff, and then I we I was just like, Well, what do you like?
- 16:39SPEAKER_03: What do you think about that?
- 16:40SPEAKER_03: She's like, Well, I don't think that's what we're supposed to do.
- 16:44SPEAKER_03: I'm like, no.
- 16:44SPEAKER_03: So we had a conversation about it later.
- 16:47SPEAKER_03: But like my guard was down.
- 16:48SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 16:49SPEAKER_03: And now now there's more conversations we weren't having before.
- 16:52SPEAKER_03: Right, yeah.
- 16:52SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 16:53SPEAKER_00: Wow.
- 16:54SPEAKER_00: Well, I mean, I think it goes along with a line, Pastor Jimmy, you talked a lot about, and I think even just the story illustration is that uh I don't think we understand, and our culture doesn't teach us this, that how faith how important faithfulness is.
- 17:06SPEAKER_00: Sure.
- 17:06SPEAKER_00: You know, I'm saying, like, you know, we need to trust the Lord for the outcome at the end.
- 17:10SPEAKER_00: Yet at the same time, like, we live in such a we live in such a time and a period where like we want things now, we want it happening quickly, we want it like, you know, I mean, even having conversations with kids getting out of college, and they're like, man, I went to college, I'd spend all this money.
- 17:25SPEAKER_00: What do you mean I have to start out at$17 an hour?
- 17:28SPEAKER_00: You know what I mean?
- 17:28SPEAKER_00: Like, well, that's what most of the world does.
- 17:30SPEAKER_00: You know what I mean?
- 17:31SPEAKER_00: They don't not everybody gets to start out at uh, you know,$200,000 a year.
- 17:35SPEAKER_00: You know what I'm saying?
- 17:36SPEAKER_00: Like your the company wants to see some faithfulness.
- 17:39SPEAKER_00: They want to know your character, they want to know what's going on.
- 17:41SPEAKER_00: Like, there's a lot of things, you know, that need to happen.
- 17:44SPEAKER_00: And so, and uh I be but I think for us, like, even like uh for me, like you know, when it comes to personal Bible time, like I tell people all the time, like I'm not getting anything from the Bible.
- 17:53SPEAKER_00: Be faithful.
- 17:54SPEAKER_00: Yeah, keep on reading, show up every day.
- 17:56SPEAKER_00: Don't not not show up.
- 17:58SPEAKER_00: You know what I mean?
- 17:58SPEAKER_00: Like you'll be surprised what actually happens two days later from what you read in that text, and you weren't even thinking about it.
- 18:04SPEAKER_00: Like you have to be faithful, faithful, faithful, faithful.
- 18:06SPEAKER_04: Something Jamie said on Sunday was um that faithfulness is not boring, it's consistent.
- 18:11SPEAKER_04: And I I mean it's so easy to like put that to liken that to a marriage where faithfulness in your marriage can probably look a little boring, but not really, but it's consistent.
- 18:24SPEAKER_04: So faithfully showing up for each other, that doesn't mean having an affair.
- 18:28SPEAKER_04: I'm not saying Jamie's face, not that like faithfulness every day to like Jamie does the dishes most of the day, and then I don't have to do it, or I bought coffee creamer for him yesterday.
- 18:39SPEAKER_04: He's like, that's the best thing you can ever do.
- 18:41SPEAKER_04: I was like, really?
- 18:42SPEAKER_04: Just buy your coffee creamer for you, but like the little, you know, it's just faithfulness.
- 18:46SPEAKER_04: And then so when you take that into your faithfulness and your relationship with the Lord, it's just a small thing.
- 18:51SPEAKER_04: So reading the Bible can seem boring.
- 18:54SPEAKER_04: It doesn't seem boring to me every day, but I think but I also can't get there.
- 18:58SPEAKER_04: Got there.
- 18:58SPEAKER_04: You know what I mean?
- 18:59SPEAKER_04: In my 20s, it probably did seem a little boring.
- 19:01SPEAKER_04: I think you do repetitively.
- 19:02SPEAKER_04: Yeah, I go through seasons.
- 19:03SPEAKER_01: Anything you do repetitively, you know, you're repeating over and over, can seem like mundane.
- 19:09SPEAKER_01: And like you do have to change things up, but also like date nights now versus date nights, you know, year one, those are totally different.
- 19:18SPEAKER_01: Date nights year one were at your parents' house for dinner.
- 19:21SPEAKER_04: I'm just gonna I actually have a really strong um uh what's the word I'm looking for?
- 19:28SPEAKER_04: I hate the word date night when you're married.
- 19:30SPEAKER_04: Oh it should be a date every night.
- 19:32SPEAKER_01: Well, it's it's very similar to like I'm I'm I'm uh you know babysitting my kids.
- 19:39SPEAKER_01: They're my kids.
- 19:40SPEAKER_04: Wait a second, let me tell you I don't like the word date night when you have no children at home.
- 19:44SPEAKER_04: So whether you are married with children or married post-children, sure.
- 19:48SPEAKER_04: I'm gonna say date night every night.
- 19:50SPEAKER_00: Yeah, no, no, no.
- 19:51SPEAKER_00: You just went out of the year, like yeah.
- 19:54SPEAKER_00: If date night's not intentional, you shouldn't be calling it date night.
- 19:57SPEAKER_00: We had date night tonight.
- 19:58SPEAKER_00: We went to Costco.
- 19:59SPEAKER_00: That's crochet show.
- 20:00SPEAKER_03: Wait, date night.
- 20:01SPEAKER_03: What are you kidding me?
- 20:02SPEAKER_03: That's my favorite date.
- 20:03SPEAKER_03: Most of ours are home and then talk about it.
- 20:06SPEAKER_01: But we gotta have somebody watching the kids for that time.
- 20:09SPEAKER_01: That's the intentional side.
- 20:12SPEAKER_00: You gotta make it intentional, like yeah.
- 20:14SPEAKER_01: And so, but well, like we have Mondays, and that's very intentional because we don't have the girls.
- 20:21SPEAKER_01: You know, if if we had Monday and we didn't have the girls, I wouldn't call those like No, no longer.
- 20:26SPEAKER_04: Yeah, no, we can have a date every day of the day, every day of the week.
- 20:30SPEAKER_01: Yeah, well, not every day.
- 20:31SPEAKER_01: I play golf and also do other things as a pastor, you know.
- 20:34SPEAKER_04: Every night.
- 20:34SPEAKER_04: You play golf?
- 20:35SPEAKER_03: No, this is the first time actually.
- 20:39SPEAKER_04: I did actually I heard this a long time ago in a very good podcast, and she said when they were young and had a lot of kids and didn't have a lot of money, she said we did date night every night after the kids went to bed.
- 20:50SPEAKER_04: Then we did date night every night.
- 20:52SPEAKER_04: So whether that was watching a show on TV, whether I was doing a puzzle or like in your own home, and I was like, that's actually really great advice right there.
- 21:00SPEAKER_01: I would say that.
- 21:01SPEAKER_01: I mean, I think we have that every night.
- 21:03SPEAKER_04: Yeah, no, yeah.
- 21:05SPEAKER_04: Now and we we have a hot tub.
- 21:07SPEAKER_04: That was part of the plan.
- 21:08SPEAKER_04: Oh, that's a good day.
- 21:09SPEAKER_04: It's not working right now.
- 21:10SPEAKER_04: Well, that's fine.
- 21:11SPEAKER_04: Is it hot at least?
- 21:12SPEAKER_04: No, that's the problem.
- 21:14SPEAKER_04: It's not hot.
- 21:15SPEAKER_04: It it needs a little attention.
- 21:17SPEAKER_01: Well, it's hot outside, so cold water is beneficial.
- 21:19SPEAKER_01: Seriously, yes.
- 21:19SPEAKER_04: I mean, it's anyway.
- 21:20SPEAKER_04: I got us off topic.
- 21:22SPEAKER_01: No, you know.
- 21:23SPEAKER_01: It was.
- 21:23SPEAKER_01: I mean, there's not a moment she doesn't get it and go, This is the best thing.
- 21:29SPEAKER_04: This is the best thing we ever bought.
- 21:30SPEAKER_01: That is awesome.
- 21:31SPEAKER_01: Oh, I love it.
- 21:32SPEAKER_04: Get the blow-up one from Walmart.
- 21:33SPEAKER_04: I want to.
- 21:34SPEAKER_04: Even that will serve its purpose.
- 21:35SPEAKER_00: For sure.
- 21:37SPEAKER_01: I mean, I think the the passage of scripture I didn't get to like really stay in on uh like I wanted uh was from First Peter.
- 21:45SPEAKER_01: If someone asks about your hope as a believer, always be ready to do that.
- 21:49SPEAKER_01: It's good news.
- 21:50SPEAKER_01: That's good news.
- 21:50SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 21:51SPEAKER_01: So that's my text this weekend.
- 21:53SPEAKER_01: Oh, really?
- 21:54SPEAKER_01: Yeah, because if somebody if somebody asks about it, that that means they're seeing something different.
- 21:59SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 21:59SPEAKER_01: Right?
- 22:00SPEAKER_01: And so it's like you responded well or so they're asking about like tell me about this hope that you have.
- 22:07SPEAKER_01: You know, you just get to explain who God is.
- 22:09SPEAKER_01: You don't get to take credit.
- 22:11SPEAKER_01: You know what I mean?
- 22:11SPEAKER_01: Like you get to just go, this is what God has done.
- 22:14SPEAKER_01: I'm just I'm a witness.
- 22:16SPEAKER_01: Uh I think most people aren't witnesses because they stopped experiencing or seeing.
- 22:22SPEAKER_01: Right?
- 22:22SPEAKER_01: When you think about a witness, why are you being called to be a witness in court?
- 22:29SPEAKER_01: Because you've experienced or saw something that is crucial.
- 22:33SPEAKER_01: So if I'm not being a witness, I stopped experiencing or seeing those things that I should be.
- 22:40SPEAKER_01: And that's that's what I've always found fascinating.
- 22:42SPEAKER_01: We're not called to be judges, we're not called to be lawyers, we're called to be witnesses.
- 22:47SPEAKER_00: And how how important is faithfulness to being a witness?
- 22:51SPEAKER_00: Very, right?
- 22:51SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah, I would think.
- 22:56SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 22:56SPEAKER_01: So give somebody.
- 22:57SPEAKER_01: I can't.
- 22:58SPEAKER_01: I'd be a horrible witness if it was like, I don't know, I wasn't there.
- 23:02SPEAKER_01: I didn't see anything.
- 23:03SPEAKER_01: All right, get this guy off the stand.
- 23:05SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 23:06SPEAKER_01: Like, what?
- 23:07SPEAKER_01: Like, why are you even here?
- 23:08SPEAKER_01: And I think that's where a lot of people live.
- 23:10SPEAKER_01: Like, I don't, I don't, I don't know what I would say in that situation.
- 23:14SPEAKER_01: Or we're not giving someone, you know, an opportunity to go, man, why are you why are you acting like that?
- 23:22SPEAKER_00: Or well, because the New Testament church was being the church, yeah, and people witnessed that, many came to the Lord.
- 23:29SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 23:30SPEAKER_00: Right?
- 23:30SPEAKER_00: Like it wasn't they weren't holding services and having evangelists show up and like people not that that stuff didn't happen.
- 23:36SPEAKER_00: I'm just saying that like primarily is because the way they just faithfully lived out the gospel.
- 23:41SPEAKER_01: And I think you know, I think about Peter like standing in front and giving an account and their thought process of Peter.
- 23:49SPEAKER_01: Like, oh, this guy's a denier.
- 23:51SPEAKER_01: He was with him, but he cut a dude's ear off.
- 23:54SPEAKER_01: Like we've heard stories about Peter, and now he's standing up and he's giving them a different account.
- 23:59SPEAKER_01: Like he is, like he's the one saying this first and foremost.
- 24:02SPEAKER_01: But he's saying, like, guys, I've I've been a bad witness.
- 24:07SPEAKER_01: Like I've been the denier.
- 24:09SPEAKER_01: I've been the put my foot in the mouth, but I've also been the guy that stepped out of the boat.
- 24:14SPEAKER_01: I've also was the guy who left everything.
- 24:17SPEAKER_01: And so here's what I'm testifying to you today.
- 24:20SPEAKER_01: I was lost, but Christ is the one, like the guy that you murdered, he he rose again.
- 24:27SPEAKER_01: Like that's my witness.
- 24:28SPEAKER_01: And you know, you go from denier one-on-one to in front of thousands.
- 24:33SPEAKER_01: I mean, it says that day, 3,000 people said yes to Jesus and they had a baptism problem.
- 24:38SPEAKER_01: You know what I mean?
- 24:38SPEAKER_01: Where are we going to baptize all these people?
- 24:40SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 24:41SPEAKER_01: And so it's like, he's the one saying, if someone asks you about this, man, be ready to explain it because there's a reason they're asking, and you don't want to miss this moment.
- 24:51SPEAKER_01: You don't want to miss the moment of the hope that you have.
- 24:54SPEAKER_01: This isn't a moment to go like, well, I'm from a really good family, or man, I've made some really strong decisions.
- 25:00SPEAKER_01: This is a moment where you go, listen, dude, I've messed up, but by the grace of God, I'm still standing, and it's only because of what he's done.
- 25:08SPEAKER_01: That's the hope I have.
- 25:09SPEAKER_01: And you can have that too.
- 25:11SPEAKER_01: Because I think a lot of times we throw out our credentials and people go, see, that's not my story.
- 25:17SPEAKER_01: So I don't, I don't, I don't, I don't relate to that.
- 25:20SPEAKER_01: But when you instantly go, no, dude, there's there's a God who loves you, who cares for you, doesn't care where you've been, that's our hope.
- 25:28SPEAKER_01: Oh, man, we have that in common.
- 25:31SPEAKER_01: Our backgrounds could be different, our our families can be different, but we have the same hope.
- 25:35SPEAKER_01: That's what Peter's talking about.
- 25:37SPEAKER_00: Yeah, and I'm I'm gonna start off with an Exodus on Sunday where literally, like, you know, God has pulled the Israelites out of and then he said to them, Oh, by the way, like from the beginning, you guys can't get it right.
- 25:48SPEAKER_00: So your hope is in the fact that I've sent I'm sending my son Jesus Christ, that's all you're gonna need.
- 25:53SPEAKER_00: Now you're a family, now you belong.
- 25:55SPEAKER_00: And they've not even started doing anything.
- 25:57SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 25:57SPEAKER_00: Right?
- 25:58SPEAKER_00: Like you are, you get to be the church because of Jesus, period.
- 26:01SPEAKER_00: You just have to make a decision whether or not you want to join the family.
- 26:04SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 26:05SPEAKER_03: And as you're talking, Pastor Jamin, thinking, like, okay, what am I a witness to?
- 26:09SPEAKER_03: Because I can tell my story, but I think we the only way we're a witness to Jesus is by reading the Bible all the time.
- 26:17SPEAKER_03: Like Kelly just had something to apply to me because she's been reading it.
- 26:21SPEAKER_03: So if we're like witnessing as much of the story as we can on a regular basis, just get the whole story in you all the time, your whole life.
- 26:29SPEAKER_03: And now you have something to testify to, whether you read it two years ago or yesterday morning.
- 26:35SPEAKER_00: I think though a lot of times we get so, and maybe I'm wrong, but a lot of times we get so overwhelmed or concerned or disappointed about the Bible and all that kind of stuff, is we read it to change our lives.
- 26:46SPEAKER_00: And we shouldn't be doing that.
- 26:47SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I know.
- 26:48SPEAKER_00: Like our lives are changed because of Jesus.
- 26:51SPEAKER_00: My hope, the reason why I have hope, like I mean, I've been living for Jesus now since I was 12 years old.
- 26:57SPEAKER_00: If it was, if it was, if I was gonna get to heaven because of uh my goodness, I would be in trouble.
- 27:03SPEAKER_00: I had a lady just looked at me the other day at the bus garage and she said, I've been I'm getting her try to come to church.
- 27:08SPEAKER_00: She is gonna be a Pastor Jamie favorite.
- 27:10SPEAKER_00: And so, like, this lady's gonna love you.
- 27:12SPEAKER_00: And uh I said, You come to church on Sunday, bus driver's preaching.
- 27:16SPEAKER_00: She's like, Oh, only good people go to heaven.
- 27:18SPEAKER_00: I go, That is not true.
- 27:20SPEAKER_04: It's not true.
- 27:21SPEAKER_00: Good people actually don't go to heaven, you know.
- 27:23SPEAKER_00: And uh, you know, kind of thing I'm I the it is all being man, we've just got we've got to read the Bible understanding we've already made it.
- 27:31SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 27:32SPEAKER_00: Because of Jesus.
- 27:33SPEAKER_00: We're not making it.
- 27:34SPEAKER_04: People like that don't understand.
- 27:36SPEAKER_04: Like if you have read the Bible and really understand the characters, there isn't one good one.
- 27:41SPEAKER_04: No, maybe like Esther, maybe like I mean, there are some good ones, but like all the people that we pray, like all the people that get so much praise, David, Solomon, yeah, all they're all messed up.
- 27:53SPEAKER_04: Yeah, I mean, it's just so then you're like, you don't know, like she just doesn't know.
- 27:57SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 27:57SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 27:58SPEAKER_00: No, and uh her we had it.
- 27:59SPEAKER_00: Well, like the first Thessalonians.
- 28:01SPEAKER_00: I mean, like we talked, you talked about in the series, like it's why it's so important that we pray that the inner man grows, right?
- 28:07SPEAKER_00: That the inner man grows.
- 28:08SPEAKER_00: I mean, I would love the fact that Caleb had just told us in a meeting this morning, like, and I I can't wait to talk to more about it, but he's like, I I don't he didn't say we're having prayer services, but it I don't know if something him and his team is doing.
- 28:19SPEAKER_00: Yeah, they're praying specific things, right?
- 28:21SPEAKER_00: Right.
- 28:21SPEAKER_00: They're not even necessarily having a conversation with people about this stuff.
- 28:24SPEAKER_00: They're praying about things so that the enemy's plans won't work.
- 28:27SPEAKER_00: You know, I mean, well, it's just like, you know, there's things that we do behind closed doors or the faithfulness, but it's good.
- 28:33SPEAKER_01: But yeah, well, that's why I have a problem when when you're talking to believers, Christians, and and you say, Hey, go ahead and pray for us, and they're like, Uh oh, you ask people to pray out loud, and they're like that that tells me you're not praying.
- 28:46SPEAKER_04: No, I think it's public speaking.
- 28:47SPEAKER_04: No, it has nothing to do with that.
- 28:48SPEAKER_04: But I think they can't do it right.
- 28:50SPEAKER_01: Yeah, well, then I'm more concerned about the people in the room than I am him, and that is also a problem.
- 28:55SPEAKER_01: Because I I it to me, it's like if this is in you, then this should be coming out of you.
- 29:03SPEAKER_01: So if I said to you, like, Casey, tell me about playing your guitar, you're gonna be like, oh, listen.
- 29:08SPEAKER_01: This is what because you play it, you can explain it.
- 29:12SPEAKER_01: So if I'm not if I'm a non-practicing follower of Jesus, instead of identifying that way, I would go, I don't know that you're following Jesus.
- 29:20SPEAKER_01: And if you are, you're following a Jesus that you created, which I think is easy to do.
- 29:25SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 29:26SPEAKER_01: Right?
- 29:26SPEAKER_01: And so then it's like, I don't know.
- 29:28SPEAKER_01: I just have a like again, I I don't know.
- 29:31SPEAKER_01: I don't I don't like to embarrass people.
- 29:33SPEAKER_01: I don't want people to feel shame in that, but it's like, can you do something?
- 29:37SPEAKER_01: Like, like something's in you, like, let's get that out so that we can like again it's all about like living comfortably, uncomfortably.
- 29:50SPEAKER_01: Like, I want to be comfortable with being uncomfortable, and I know that shocks you guys because I don't mind awkward, I don't mind like it's whatever, you know what I mean.
- 29:59SPEAKER_01: But like I think that's important for people to be able, like, if you're not gonna share your story or pray right here, what's gonna happen when someone says, like, I listen to Bryce Crawford a lot because I like some of his content, and he's been doing this whole thing with Howie Mandel.
- 30:18SPEAKER_01: And he says to Howie Mandel at the end of the podcast, he says, Has anybody ever asked if they could pray for you?
- 30:25SPEAKER_01: And he goes, Pray for me, like right then and there, and he goes, Yeah.
- 30:30SPEAKER_01: And he goes, No, I've had people tell me they're praying for me, but I've never had them pray for me.
- 30:35SPEAKER_01: And he goes, But I have a feeling you're gonna ask to pray for me right now, and he goes, Yeah, I am gonna pray.
- 30:41SPEAKER_01: And it was I mean, Bryce closed his eyes.
- 30:43SPEAKER_01: I mean, it's a live podcast, and Howie is just kind of like looking around, like he's got sunglasses on, but he's like looking around.
- 30:51SPEAKER_01: He's puzzled by like what he's doing, and he's intently like listening to what he's saying, and I'm like, to me, that's what it's about.
- 31:02SPEAKER_01: Like anybody can go, like, oh Sean, you're having a rough day.
- 31:05SPEAKER_01: I'm praying for you.
- 31:06SPEAKER_01: But do we in the middle of Chinook stop and go, Man, Sean, I'm sorry to hear that.
- 31:10SPEAKER_01: Man, let's pray.
- 31:12SPEAKER_04: And that's a practice you have to.
- 31:14SPEAKER_01: I understand it might be a learned, it might be a growing, it might be a bold, but that to me is being the church.
- 31:20SPEAKER_00: Well, yeah, and I think it if you take it back to the New Testament, it's why outsiders were looking in saying, Wow, like I want to go be a part of that right there.
- 31:28SPEAKER_01: And it's the reason Peter's going, like, guys, there are people that are asking.
- 31:32SPEAKER_01: Let's give them the hope of what they're asking about.
- 31:36SPEAKER_00: Absolutely.
- 31:37SPEAKER_01: And again, as I said Sunday, people are dying and they're looking for hope.
- 31:42SPEAKER_01: The world is getting dark darker, we get light.
- 31:45SPEAKER_01: You know what I mean?
- 31:45SPEAKER_01: Like, it's like, hey, listen, we don't just complain about the darkness.
- 31:49SPEAKER_01: Let's bring light into it.
- 31:50SPEAKER_01: So it'd be easy.
- 31:51SPEAKER_01: We could sit around right now.
- 31:52SPEAKER_01: It's I'm sure it's happening at McDonald's this morning.
- 31:55SPEAKER_01: Politics, this, politics that it's getting dark right now.
- 31:58SPEAKER_01: Oh, this world's going to pop.
- 31:59SPEAKER_01: Can you believe it in our generation?
- 32:01SPEAKER_01: Like all those things.
- 32:02SPEAKER_01: We can talk about it all day long.
- 32:04SPEAKER_01: But how are we making it brighter?
- 32:06SPEAKER_01: It's like, how am I bringing something into that?
- 32:09SPEAKER_01: Or are we just doom and gloom?
- 32:11SPEAKER_01: You know what I mean?
- 32:12SPEAKER_01: So it's like, this is being the church.
- 32:14SPEAKER_01: Like, let's stop talking about things we know about.
- 32:17SPEAKER_01: Let's do this thing.
- 32:18SPEAKER_01: Like, I don't know.
- 32:21SPEAKER_00: Um I'm trying to remember, is it Francis Chan or whatever talked about like made the comic?
- 32:26SPEAKER_00: Uh like, you know what it was about like, you know, all Christians want to do is like have their own Bible studies and never get out of them, you know, kind of thing.
- 32:34SPEAKER_00: Like, when are you ever gonna take this out?
- 32:36SPEAKER_00: Like, you know, I cannot remember them, anyways.
- 32:38SPEAKER_00: But no, it's good, but good stuff, really good stuff.
- 32:41SPEAKER_00: Uh, Casey, you're the guest today on on the Jamie Kelly podcast.
- 32:45SPEAKER_00: No, you're not the guest at all.

- 32:58SPEAKER_03: I'm here, here by choice.
- 33:00SPEAKER_00: That means you get to pray.
- 33:01SPEAKER_03: All right.
- 33:03SPEAKER_03: Lord Jesus, we thank you for your word.
- 33:06SPEAKER_03: We thank you for this word, this conversation.
- 33:08SPEAKER_03: And I just pray that you would give us um for everyone, everyone listening, everyone who attends our church, everyone who calls themselves a follower of Christ, no matter where we are, no matter how long we've been um loving you and knowing you, pursuing you, would you just give us the boldness to live like you, to not just keep it to ourselves or have our routines, but show us practical ways to live it out so that people can see you.
- 33:32SPEAKER_03: And so we we love you and we submit to you in Jesus' name.
- 33:36SPEAKER_03: Amen.
