- 0:00Speaker 1: Welcome back to sec football addiction. We are presented by

- 0:08Speaker 1: use code H M a J from unfair sports on
- 0:12Speaker 1: with us locked on Sooners, you can check him out everywhere. Jay,
- 0:18Speaker 1: we have an Oklahoma team that is hard to figure
- 0:21Speaker 1: out at times, but they play a South Carolina team
- 0:25Speaker 1: that is very up and down and hard to figure
- 0:28Speaker 1: out at times. But, Oklahoma coming off of a performance that,
- 0:31Speaker 1: you know, again, you went out and took care of
- 0:34Speaker 1: business enough, right, and got things done. What's the mood
- 0:38Speaker 1: right now coming out of Oklahoma's weekend?
- 0:44Speaker 2: It's still the mentality of last year. This team is
- 0:46Speaker 2: still hard to kill. They seem to find ways to
- 0:49Speaker 2: put themselves in situations where they can continue to participate.
- 0:52Speaker 2: in critical games, critical scenarios, critical situations. And that victory
- 0:56Speaker 2: against Mississippi State, granted Mississippi State was missing Kamario Taylor
- 1:01Speaker 2: and they're dealing with some little injuries or whatnot. Still
- 1:05Speaker 2: a team that won four games, and they were out
- 1:06Speaker 2: there playing some of their best football until their field
- 1:10Speaker 2: general went down. But Oklahoma had an offensive explosion in
- 1:14Speaker 2: a game that they were supposed to have an offensive explosion,
- 1:17Speaker 2: even going back to the Kentucky game. They were putting
- 1:20Speaker 2: up numbers, but as soon as the offensive line, they
- 1:22Speaker 2: saw three dudes go down with injury in that game,
- 1:25Speaker 2: then everything fell apart. This game, they brought back their
- 1:28Speaker 2: top left tackle, Michael Passucci, who is a projected top
- 1:31Speaker 2: 10 draft pick in the next couple years drafts. He
- 1:35Speaker 2: went out there and you saw a big difference. You
- 1:37Speaker 2: run for 180 yards, 168 yards. You throw for over
- 1:39Speaker 2: 250 yards at 280 to be exact. 460 something yards
- 1:41Speaker 2: of total offense is pretty big for a team that
- 1:43Speaker 2: has struggled so to run the ball or pass the
- 1:53Speaker 2: ball or do anything on the opposite side of the ball. Now,
- 1:56Speaker 2: they need to convert those into touchdowns instead of settling
- 1:59Speaker 2: for only field goals. And I think that will come
- 2:01Speaker 2: in time. But the good thing is the vibes are
- 2:04Speaker 2: a lot better than they were before. People still have
- 2:07Speaker 2: high expectations and they expect them to continue to get better.
- 2:11Speaker 2: But we're finally seeing progress. And I think that that's
- 2:14Speaker 2: bigger than anything else out there.
- 2:17Speaker 1: Oklahoma's quarterback, John Mateer has certainly been up and down.
- 2:22Speaker 1: And I looked back to the last five or six
- 2:24Speaker 1: games and it is turnover, clean game, turnover, clean game,
- 2:29Speaker 1: like it is just the ultimate back and forth. And
- 2:31Speaker 1: you can look at a lot of the results and say, yeah, man.
- 2:35Speaker 1: If this, I hate to put it all on him,
- 2:38Speaker 1: but I mean, you're the quarterback in an sec program.
- 2:41Speaker 1: I don't hate it that much. You know, like you're,
- 2:44Speaker 1: you're doing okay. And you were brought in for a reason.
- 2:47Speaker 1: So I don't want to put it all on him.
- 2:48Speaker 1: There have been other issues, but it feels like the
- 2:51Speaker 1: way that he goes is the way that this team
- 2:53Speaker 1: ultimately goes. And he is, has some games where he
- 2:57Speaker 1: did a great job of protecting the ball. He's had
- 2:59Speaker 1: some games where he did the complete opposite of that
- 3:02Speaker 1: with Oklahoma's wins. He's protected it with their losses. He
- 3:07Speaker 1: hasn't so much. Is there anything that you saw Saturday against,
- 3:13Speaker 1: let's be fair, not a great Mississippi State defense, not
- 3:17Speaker 1: an opponent that's going to stress you in an incredible way.
- 3:19Speaker 1: Is there anything you saw in that game that kind
- 3:22Speaker 1: of gives you some hope that he can kind of
- 3:25Speaker 1: not do the roller coaster of highs and lows, or
- 3:29Speaker 1: is it just wait and see?
- 3:32Speaker 2: I'll put it this way. They got yards on the
- 3:35Speaker 2: team they were supposed to get yards on. That to
- 3:38Speaker 2: me is progress because that is the biggest challenge for
- 3:41Speaker 2: them is that even in games they were supposed to
- 3:43Speaker 2: get yards, they weren't. They weren't being productive. Plus the
- 3:46Speaker 2: turnover thing, it looked like he was way more comfortable
- 3:51Speaker 2: now in comparison. And I give that 100% to Michael
- 3:54Speaker 2: Fasusi being there at left tackle. When he's there, John
- 3:57Speaker 2: seems to be a lot calmer than he normally is.
- 4:00Speaker 2: As long as Fasusi's out there and now Noah Best,
- 4:03Speaker 2: the true freshman, is playing left guard and he's playing
- 4:05Speaker 2: very well, I think that John's going to be a
- 4:08Speaker 2: lot more comfortable in games than he has in years past.
- 4:11Speaker 2: So as long as you got Fasusi, John's going to
- 4:14Speaker 2: play at a better clip and he's going to play
- 4:16Speaker 2: more comfortable. Heck, against Kentucky, when Ryan Fosier was out there,
- 4:20Speaker 2: which Kentucky has also a bad pass defense, when he
- 4:24Speaker 2: was out there and he was healthy, John looked good
- 4:26Speaker 2: for three quarters. And then as soon as you started
- 4:30Speaker 2: to see those injuries pile up, Fasusi hurt his ankle.
- 4:33Speaker 2: I mean, Fosier hurt his ankle to the point of
- 4:35Speaker 2: he was out last week. You noticed a difference late
- 4:40Speaker 2: in that Kentucky game. So getting prepared for South Carolina,
- 4:44Speaker 2: their big thing is going to be, as long as
- 4:46Speaker 2: the line is healthier and Fasusi's there at the left,
- 4:50Speaker 2: I think John will give you the numbers and the
- 4:53Speaker 2: play that you've been looking forward to.
- 4:56Speaker 1: When you look at this game, Oklahoma comes in as
- 4:58Speaker 1: a three-and-a-half-point favorite. I think the SEC– I don't think.
- 5:02Speaker 1: The SEC has been an absolute wild situation all year
- 5:07Speaker 1: with– A lot of people may have questioned, hey, why
- 5:10Speaker 1: is South Carolina a favorite against Tennessee? Well, you found
- 5:12Speaker 1: out why on Saturday after what South Carolina has shown
- 5:18Speaker 1: now in back-to-back weeks. It's maybe slightly surprising for people.
- 5:22Speaker 1: Home and away does mean a lot, and I think
- 5:24Speaker 1: what's really interesting about this game is the Oklahoma offense,
- 5:31Speaker 1: can they get going enough against a South Carolina defense
- 5:34Speaker 1: that can get got for sure? does have game records
- 5:37Speaker 1: and Dylan Stewart who essentially sealed the win on Saturday. Um,
- 5:43Speaker 1: and the Oklahoma defense, can they, as good as Oklahoma's
- 5:46Speaker 1: defense is, I think Tennessee's got a really good defense
- 5:48Speaker 1: and Lenora sellers went Superman at times, uh, against them.
- 5:52Speaker 1: Those matchups are insane to me, but, uh, are you,
- 5:56Speaker 1: I don't know that I'm surprised that Oklahoma is a
- 5:58Speaker 1: favorite in this game, especially being at home. But I
- 6:02Speaker 1: do think, uh, You know, there is an expectation that
- 6:05Speaker 1: Oklahoma should go out and win this thing. And it's close.
- 6:08Speaker 1: It's not like a guarantee.
- 6:09Speaker 2: Right.
- 6:10Speaker 1: I find that interesting. Just before we go on, I
- 6:13Speaker 1: want to give some love to our poll. CFATop25. com. Go
- 6:19Speaker 1: to the poll. Vote right now. You can see what
- 6:22Speaker 1: the media has voted for. This is better than the
- 6:24Speaker 1: AP because it's not a bunch of local beat writers
- 6:27Speaker 1: that are biased for their team only. There's certainly some
- 6:30Speaker 1: bias in there. But, Go to CFATop25. com, set your top 25,
- 6:37Speaker 1: vote every week, and then compare your poll with others.
- 6:40Speaker 1: You can download the poll, share it on your social
- 6:42Speaker 1: media if you want. Let everybody know why your top
- 6:45Speaker 1: 25 is right. You can also look at what different
- 6:48Speaker 1: media members have done. I've compiled a bunch here, and
- 6:50Speaker 1: then a bunch are voting and submitting polls weekly. CFATop25. com,
- 6:55Speaker 1: go check it out.
- 6:56Speaker 2: What is the spread on this game right now? Is
- 6:58Speaker 2: it still sitting at.
- 6:59Speaker 1: Three and a half, four-ish, based on where you find it?
- 7:02Speaker 2: I've been seeing a few spots going up to even
- 7:05Speaker 2: five and a half. And that, to me, is a
- 7:07Speaker 2: massive indication that Vegas is like, no, Oklahoma's roster is
- 7:12Speaker 2: still better. When they play mistake-free football, they should win
- 7:16Speaker 2: this game. Granted, when we played at South Carolina last season,
- 7:19Speaker 2: at their house, and their offensive line was in shambles,
- 7:22Speaker 2: It was the same. It was also five and a half.
- 7:26Speaker 2: And Oklahoma should have a chance to do something. But
- 7:29Speaker 2: the only unfortunate thing is when Oklahoma is a five
- 7:31Speaker 2: and a half point favorite at the crib, they play awful. Kentucky,
- 7:35Speaker 2: they lost that game. Last season, Ole Miss, they lost
- 7:38Speaker 2: that game. So I don't like that the Sooners are
- 7:41Speaker 2: five and a half point favorites in this game. But
- 7:44Speaker 2: if we can move that up to like six or
- 7:47Speaker 2: go down to four, I'll feel more comfortable. But it
- 7:50Speaker 2: looks like a lot of the action is South Carolina,
- 7:52Speaker 2: and it's probably going to be continuous South Carolina action
- 7:56Speaker 2: all the way through the week. Oklahoma is just going
- 7:58Speaker 2: to have to find a way to win the game.
- 7:59Speaker 1: We talked about Lenora Sellers kind of going game wrecker
- 8:05Speaker 1: against Tennessee, against a really good Tennessee defense that I've
- 8:08Speaker 1: got a lot of respect for. I don't know that
- 8:11Speaker 1: he can do that two weeks in a row, especially
- 8:13Speaker 1: with the second one being on the road. But I
- 8:15Speaker 1: also don't know that he can't. And I think that
- 8:17Speaker 1: as we talked about Mateer, right, like as Mateer goes,
- 8:21Speaker 1: you know, so goes Oklahoma. I think in large part,
- 8:24Speaker 1: you're kind of seeing that with South Carolina at times, too. Now,
- 8:27Speaker 1: Stewart was like they had other guys make plays. But
- 8:29Speaker 1: you just think about that fourth, that effort for the
- 8:31Speaker 1: for the game tying touchdown for for sellers. That's a
- 8:33Speaker 1: play that. I don't know if anybody else in the sec, honestly,
- 8:36Speaker 1: maybe Byron Brown could, the, the, the physicality, um, would,
- 8:40Speaker 1: would be somebody that they could make it. Um, other
- 8:43Speaker 1: guys might be able to, but what sellers gives you
- 8:46Speaker 1: at that top end level is, is really, really special.
- 8:49Speaker 1: And he has put it back. He's put it together
- 8:51Speaker 1: two weeks in a row, South Carolina, man, sitting at
- 8:53Speaker 1: their record at four and three, but also having losses
- 8:57Speaker 1: that they blew against Mississippi state when they were peaking
- 9:00Speaker 1: against Kentucky. And we know how good Kentucky has been
- 9:03Speaker 1: this year. They're inches away from being a team that's
- 9:06Speaker 1: like 6-1, I guess, would be their record. They did
- 9:12Speaker 1: blow those games, and those are things you always... I mean,
- 9:14Speaker 1: they tried to blow it against Tennessee, too, giving up
- 9:16Speaker 1: a 14-0 lead with 21 points in the second quarter.
- 9:18Speaker 1: But yeah, the Oklahoma defense against Lenora Sellers is something
- 9:22Speaker 1: that I want to hear your thoughts on.
- 9:23Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm curious to see how we play him this
- 9:26Speaker 2: year compared to last year. Last year when we were
- 9:28Speaker 2: there at Williams-Brice, you saw them really flood him with pressure. Granted,
- 9:34Speaker 2: their offensive line was in shambles. They lost a couple players.
- 9:36Speaker 2: They actually lost some players this year to injury, but
- 9:39Speaker 2: they're playing a much better offense. The new offensive line coach,
- 9:42Speaker 2: Randy Clement, came over there with Kendall Browse, they're playing really, really,
- 9:49Speaker 2: really good offensive ball. And it feels like they're finally
- 9:52Speaker 2: starting to click. So for Oklahoma, even having the best
- 9:55Speaker 2: pass defense in the SEC, they're going to have to
- 9:58Speaker 2: really put the clam. on not letting sellers beat them
- 10:03Speaker 2: with their arm and have their biggest linebackers spying, ready
- 10:07Speaker 2: to hit him and taking him down. Last year, that
- 10:09Speaker 2: was a challenge. Heck, I still plays in my brain
- 10:12Speaker 2: a video of our Mason Thomas, who plays edge now
- 10:16Speaker 2: for the Kansas City Chiefs. trying to tackle Sellers, and
- 10:19Speaker 2: Sellers literally put his hand in the middle of his
- 10:21Speaker 2: chest and pushed him off of him. It was insane
- 10:26Speaker 2: that they were able to do that. But that's just
- 10:28Speaker 2: because how talented that dude is. He's strong, he is
- 10:32Speaker 2: hard to take down, And I believe for Oklahoma, the
- 10:37Speaker 2: work is going to be on not letting him dominate
- 10:42Speaker 2: like he normally does. If they can keep him in
- 10:45Speaker 2: the pocket, force him to throw it and throw it
- 10:47Speaker 2: in places you don't want to while still compressing that pocket,
- 10:51Speaker 2: they got a good chance of slowing him down and
- 10:53Speaker 2: possibly taking the dub. Their run game is a little
- 10:56Speaker 2: bit better. Fuller is out there running a little bit better,
- 10:58Speaker 2: but Oklahoma's defense overall is still high end. And I
- 11:01Speaker 2: think I would match them up against anybody and feel
- 11:03Speaker 2: just fine.
- 11:05Speaker 1: What about the other side? We talked about material. We
- 11:06Speaker 1: talked about the offense. This is a South Carolina defense
- 11:09Speaker 1: that at times can make plays. We know that Dylan
- 11:11Speaker 1: Stewart can wreck games at times. He's playing incredibly well
- 11:14Speaker 1: after he was out for a little while, but you
- 11:17Speaker 1: have a Oklahoma offense that is at times boom or bust.
- 11:23Speaker 1: And it's unfortunately not been super pretty to watch now.
- 11:27Speaker 1: Thankfully for you guys, even though this head to head
- 11:29Speaker 1: didn't go very well, I do think the offense is
- 11:31Speaker 1: better than Michigan's. It's not quite that level of, you know,
- 11:36Speaker 1: elite defense, awful offense, but certainly boom or bust. But
- 11:39Speaker 1: I think a South Carolina team that you can take
- 11:42Speaker 1: advantage of, especially in the secondary. I think there are
- 11:45Speaker 1: some opportunities there, but you need material to be accurate
- 11:48Speaker 1: to be able to do that.
- 11:50Speaker 2: Oh, you desperately need him to be accurate to even
- 11:53Speaker 2: do that. A hundred percent. And the biggest thing is
- 11:55Speaker 2: winning the turnover battle. If they win the turnover battle,
- 12:00Speaker 2: I think they'll be fine. That is where the biggest
- 12:03Speaker 2: challenge comes in for, This team, it's turnover battle. And
- 12:09Speaker 2: if Mateer cannot give the ball away, if he continues
- 12:13Speaker 2: to play the way he's played the last couple of weeks,
- 12:16Speaker 2: even back to Texas, to where he's not giving it up,
- 12:22Speaker 2: just take the Kentucky third and fourth quarter out. But
- 12:26Speaker 2: everything building up to that and through this game where
- 12:29Speaker 2: he is just Taking his time, I think Oklahoma has
- 12:32Speaker 2: a good chance of winning this one. Now, again, it's
- 12:35Speaker 2: all contingent on not losing the turnover battle. We know
- 12:38Speaker 2: this defense is going to find ways to force turnovers.
- 12:41Speaker 2: We just can't give it back and then not be catastrophic. Plus,
- 12:46Speaker 2: the biggest thing out of this is left tackle Michael
- 12:49Speaker 2: Fasusi being there really does make Mateer more comfortable. And so,
- 12:53Speaker 2: as long as he maintains his health, knock on wood,
- 12:56Speaker 2: this should be a good game and Oklahoma should be
- 12:58Speaker 2: able to compete.
- 13:00Speaker 1: X factor in this one? You can't say not turning
- 13:02Speaker 1: the ball over?
- 13:05Speaker 2: I think the big X factor is getting the run
- 13:07Speaker 2: game established for Oklahoma. If they can get the run
- 13:09Speaker 2: game going and keep the clock rolling, I think they'll
- 13:12Speaker 2: be fine.
- 13:13Speaker 1: What did Tennessee run for last week against South Carolina?
- 13:17Speaker 1: Because it felt like Bishop had a pretty good day,
- 13:20Speaker 1: but I want to look at that while we're on here.
- 13:22Speaker 2: Yeah, I think he did have a solid game. I
- 13:24Speaker 2: don't think it was great.
- 13:26Speaker 1: Yeah, but on 32 carries.
- 13:27Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah. He had a solid run game where he
- 13:30Speaker 2: was burning clock. And honestly, that's what Oklahoma needs. They're
- 13:34Speaker 2: going to need someone to burn clock. Last time we
- 13:37Speaker 2: played at Williams-Brice, Torrey Blaylock finished with like 100 yards
- 13:42Speaker 2: in that game. which, sign me up, give me a
- 13:45Speaker 2: 100-yard rusher, and I think Xavier Robinson, if I'm correct,
- 13:48Speaker 2: finished also with... I think he finished Wednesday. Torrey Black
- 13:53Speaker 2: had 101, Xavier Robinson at 58. So he finished with
- 13:57Speaker 2: 170 yards rushing on 40 carries. That's a good day.
- 14:01Speaker 2: Four yards a carry, that's a good day. John didn't
- 14:03Speaker 2: throw it very well. He threw it for 148 yards,
- 14:05Speaker 2: but he's also coming fresh off that thumb injury, thumb surgery, right?
- 14:08Speaker 2: Like he played the Texas game, and then he's headed
- 14:13Speaker 2: right to Williams-Brice a couple games later. if Oklahoma can
- 14:18Speaker 2: find a way to get the run game going again
- 14:21Speaker 2: against this defense, Dylan Stewart's going to be a problem,
- 14:24Speaker 2: but he's the only one. And he didn't play the
- 14:25Speaker 2: entire game against Oklahoma last year. He got chipped once
- 14:28Speaker 2: and came out the game. And... Oklahoma's going to have
- 14:32Speaker 2: to be physical with him. He's going to be moved around.
- 14:34Speaker 2: They're probably going to make him go on Oklahoma's right side,
- 14:37Speaker 2: which is their left side of the field, because it's
- 14:39Speaker 2: the side that's more susceptible for him to dominate. So
- 14:42Speaker 2: Oklahoma's got to be prepared for that and prepared to
- 14:44Speaker 2: put a tight end on him and make things terrible
- 14:47Speaker 2: or run it right at his face because he's not
- 14:50Speaker 2: the best run stopper yet.
- 14:53Speaker 1: We're somewhat early in the week. We're doing this on
- 14:55Speaker 1: a Monday afternoon. But what's your gut right now tell
- 14:58Speaker 1: you happens this weekend?
- 15:00Speaker 2: My gut says this is another close game for Oklahoma.
- 15:02Speaker 2: I hate the fact that they can't score more than
- 15:04Speaker 2: 30 points in a conference game via offense. But, you know, whatevs.
- 15:08Speaker 2: A win's a win's a win's a win. As long
- 15:10Speaker 2: as the defense does their part, I say it. South
- 15:13Speaker 2: Carolina is still, they're hot. So I totally understand why
- 15:18Speaker 2: anyone would even want to ride with South Carolina, especially
- 15:20Speaker 2: winning that game against Tennessee. But South Carolina was a
- 15:23Speaker 2: three-point favorite in that game. People forget that part. That
- 15:27Speaker 2: was a reason why Vegas gave them the home train
- 15:30Speaker 2: and they ended up winning it by three. Hate how
- 15:32Speaker 2: accurate they are. Give me Oklahoma. I don't think, I
- 15:36Speaker 2: don't know if they cover the spread, but I do
- 15:38Speaker 2: think they win this by a field goal. Yeah.
- 15:40Speaker 1: I think what's interesting, we've talked about the sec, the chaos,
- 15:43Speaker 1: the circle of suck, like whatever you want to talk
- 15:45Speaker 1: about with in the conference, it's, I give a lot
- 15:50Speaker 1: of precedence to them playing at home. If this was
- 15:53Speaker 1: in Williams-Brice, I think that'd be tough. I also think
- 15:56Speaker 1: that you've got a South Carolina team that's coming off
- 15:59Speaker 1: of a very emotional win by beating the number 11
- 16:04Speaker 1: team in the country and doing it the way they
- 16:06Speaker 1: did with a dramatic walk-off. Again, Dylan Stewart kind of
- 16:10Speaker 1: saving it there. Lenore Sellers' touchdown at the end to
- 16:13Speaker 1: tie it. All those things. And when you've got to
- 16:16Speaker 1: get up and go on the road and play away
- 16:19Speaker 1: In a very tough place to play in the SEC,
- 16:22Speaker 1: we've just seen more teams fail at that than ever before.
- 16:26Speaker 1: It has been more chaotic. It's been more parody. There's
- 16:30Speaker 1: been a lot on it. And so not an analytical breakdown.
- 16:33Speaker 1: This is a vibes type of feeling for sure. But
- 16:37Speaker 1: it very much feels to me like this is a
- 16:40Speaker 1: dangerous spot for South Carolina. That's probably why the spread
- 16:45Speaker 1: is what it is because– man, we've seen time after
- 16:49Speaker 1: time after time teams go and win a game in
- 16:53Speaker 1: dramatic fashion in this conference and then drop their very
- 16:56Speaker 1: next one. So I would roll with Oklahoma here, but
- 17:00Speaker 1: certainly if Oklahoma turns the ball over, if Sellers isn't
- 17:03Speaker 1: able to go kind of Superman against this defense, I
- 17:05Speaker 1: could certainly see a 13-17 Oklahoma final where South Carolina's
- 17:09Speaker 1: offense doesn't get going. I could also see the opposite
- 17:12Speaker 1: where there's a couple of turnovers in short fields and
- 17:15Speaker 1: Sellers and Harbour and those guys beat you a fuller.
- 17:17Speaker 1: and they win 28-13. So I can certainly see both scenarios.
- 17:22Speaker 1: I think the way that the SEC has gone this
- 17:24Speaker 1: year kind of tells you that Oklahoma's going to win
- 17:26Speaker 1: this game. But also, just when you think you know
- 17:28Speaker 1: something about this conference, it goes the other way.
- 17:30Speaker 2: It goes the completely other way. That's exactly it.
- 17:35Speaker 1: Jay, what do you got coming this week? Where can
- 17:36Speaker 1: people follow you? All those things.

- 17:48Speaker 2: game and everything going forward. I appreciate you having me, TJ.
