- 0:01We tend to equate strength with outward expressions, whether it
- 0:05be through physical power, emotional pressure, bullying or
- 0:10the use of mental will force to achieve 1's intended results.
- 0:15We talk about strongman dictators who in particular use
- 0:20threats, bullying, and police power to pressure people and
- 0:24countries to comply with their demands.
- 0:28The fact, however, that they have to use such outward
- 0:31manifestations of strength to convince others to carry out
- 0:35their wishes makes it clear that they're actually hiding their
- 0:39weaknesses, insecurities and fears.
- 0:44They know deep down that their direction and guidance cannot be
- 0:48justified in an open and balanced way, and thus they
- 0:53resort to physical violence and threats to get what they want.
- 0:58True strength need not beat its chest in order to manifest.
- 1:03If we try, when provoked, to rein in our anger and respond
- 1:08peacefully both externally and internally, we will see that
- 1:13this is much more difficult and requires more strength than
- 1:18simply venting and letting our vital and emotional response
- 1:22simply have its way. For the spiritual seeker,
- 1:27understanding the difference between true strength and true
- 1:30weakness becomes essential. As new powers develop and begin
- 1:36to enter and express themselves in the being through the
- 1:38practice of the spiritual discipline, a foundation of
- 1:42peace and quiet strength becomes essential.
- 1:46Otherwise the powers either get spilt or they distort and
- 1:51potentially harm the physical, vital or mental levels of the
- 1:56being if they overload the circuit, so to speak.
- 2:01A basis of wideness and increasing ability to accept and
- 2:05tolerate more powerful forces impacting 1 is the requirement
- 2:10for accumulating spiritual force through sadhna.
- 2:15This same basis manifests as the ability to remain calm under any
- 2:19form of external pressure and negative circumstance.
- 2:25The mother notes quote, quietude is a very positive state.
- 2:31There is a positive peace which is not the opposite of conflict,
- 2:35an active peace, contagious, powerful, which controls and
- 2:41calms, which puts everything in order, organizes.
- 2:46It is of this I am speaking. When I tell someone be calm, I
- 2:51don't mean to say go and sleep. Be inert and passive and don't
- 2:55do anything. Far from it.
- 2:58True quietude is a very great force, a very great strength.
- 3:03In fact. One can say, looking at the
- 3:05problem from the other side, that all those who are really
- 3:09strong, powerful, are always very calm.
- 3:14It is only the weak who are agitated.
- 3:17As soon as one becomes truly strong, one is peaceful, calm,
- 3:23quiet and one has the power of endurance to face the adverse
- 3:28waves which come rushing from outside in the hope of
- 3:31disturbing one. This true quietude is always a
- 3:35sign of force. Calmness belongs to the strong
- 3:41and this is true even in the physical field.
- 3:44I don't know if you have observed animals like lions,
- 3:47tigers, elephants, but it is a fact that when they are not in
- 3:52action, they are always so perfectly still.
- 3:56A lion sitting and looking at you always seems to be telling
- 4:00you, oh, how fidgety you are. It looks at you with such a
- 4:05peaceful air of wisdom, and all its power, energy, physical
- 4:11strength are there, gathered, collected, concentrated and
- 4:17without a shadow of agitation, ready for action when the order
- 4:21is given. I have seen people, many people,
- 4:26who could not sit still for half an hour without fidgeting.
- 4:31They had to move a foot or a leg or an arm or their head.
- 4:36They had to stir restlessly all the time, for they did not have
- 4:40the power or the strength to remain quiet.
- 4:45This capacity to remain still when one wants to, to gather all
- 4:50one's energies and spend them as one wishes, completely if one
- 4:54wants, or to apportion them as one wants in action, with a
- 4:59perfect calm, even in action, that is always the sign of
- 5:04strength. It may be physical strength or
- 5:08vital strength or mental strength, but if you are in the
- 5:13least agitated, you may be sure there is a weakness somewhere.
- 5:18And if your restlessness is integral, it is also an integral
- 5:22weakness. End Quote.
