Abandoned 1878 Coin Sells for $439K | Huntsville News
A forgotten 1878 gold coin, discarded after a failed minting experiment, just sold for $439,200 — making it the most valuable of its kind. This rare “Unique Judd-1566 Pattern Quarter Eagle” is the only one surviving, measuring 20.5mm (larger than standard 18mm coins) and in excellent condition. Featuring Lady Liberty on the obverse and an eagle on the reverse, it stunned collectors at Stack’s Bowers auction, where it led a $13.2M sale. Despite market volatility, rare coins remain a powerhouse — proof that what’s scrapped can become priceless. Listen in comfort:Get a discount on a Soli Pillow…
