- Forged In The Dark: It's incredibly common for recurring themes to pop up in my life every single week. Sometimes it's the same as the week before, sometimes it's a little bit different. And this week it's movement. Welcome to Forged in the Dark. I'm your host, Jamie. Let's dig in. Now, if you know me at all in the real world, or if you follow along on my stories on Instagram, you see how I show up for myself physically. My physical habits are strong. I I've practiced yoga for eight years, three to seven times a week. I started running ⁓ on Year's Eve of 25. And that brings me to the the milestone. I I hit two milestones on Tuesday. ⁓ ⁓ six months running, and the other was my fastest consecutive split paces for three miles. ⁓ I mean, each one, ⁓ one was consistent ⁓ they were all faster than my usual. ⁓ it's crazy because I didn't even Think I was going faster. I was just trying to keep up with the group, which apparently was having a speedy day. But in this, in this, hitting a six month milestone and my fastest split paces, it got me looking at the entire last six months of my life. And there have been so many milestones in the last six months, not just with running, and every single one of them. The recurring line, the recurring strings that you can pull and all tie together are time, patience, and repetition. ⁓ consistency, consistency builds self-trust, self-trust builds confidence. But wait, repetition is what creates consistency. So with today being focused on movement. Could spend at least an hour, if not longer, running down list after list after list of all of the benefits of movement, body, mind, and soul. But today, ⁓ I am focused on the confidence that you build. Most people start things and they stop because the results don't come in fast enough. They don't give it a chance to get good. Now, people comment on my shoulders and my arms all the time. And when they ask me, They're like, what weights do you hit? What reps do you push? And I'm like, wait, what reps do I push? I I push sun salutations. I push warrior two. I push chair three to seven times a week over eight years. And there was a time, before right when I found yoga, ⁓ was not a good time in my life. ⁓ ⁓ I did not start yoga for the physical benefits. I did not start running for the physical benefits. After eight years of practicing yoga consistently, the physical benefits are there. After running for six months, I'm finally getting faster. when I started, I have a coach. I I had an idea. I had a drive. ⁓ I had burning desire to check one more thing off of that list of things my doctors told me I could never do again. ⁓ And I did not have support. I didn't I did not have an accountability partner. I did not have someone there helping me get out of bed with my alarm. But what I had was that burning desire. And it was that burning desire alone that kept getting me up out of bed. When my legs swelled, when my knees swelled, when I ended up in physical therapy, I still kept getting up and going. And and in that, in the reps, whether I felt like it or not, putting in the reps built consistency. Now, if on days where there are big like thunderstorms and I can't run, it it literally I'm like, ⁓ my gosh, what do I do with myself now? And of course there are alternatives, treadmills and gyms and and alternative exercises. But the point is, over the last six months, running has already become a habit. I have become consistent with it. I have built this, I have put in enough reps to build the self-trust to get to the confidence piece. And of all of the work that I've done over the years, all of the years, I would say hands down, running is the one that has delivered the biggest. Boost in my confidence. It has elevated my confidence in every area of my life in ways that are incredibly hard to explain. So right now, you, what is that thing? I mean, yes, okay, today is all about movement, and I want you to be moving your body, and you don't have to become a runner. But what you can do in one area of your life, you can also do in other areas of your life. What is stopping you from showing up? What is stopping you from putting in the reps? How are you getting in your own way? But when it comes to your body and your belief system and the reps and consistency and self-trust and confidence. It's built one choice at a time. And every time you add physical movement to a choice that you are making a habit, it doesn't just program into your brain, it programs into your central nervous system. Your central nervous system is your first responder for everything. And by moving your body, you train your body that it is safe to move, that it is safe to be in movement. there certain subjects I geek out about. ⁓ And and and right now I just I know I know how my life used to be. And I know how stuck I used to feel, and I know how soft I was in different areas of my body. And I know that I didn't feel confident with my physique. And I also know that I I that I didn't start practicing yoga or start running for the physical benefits. I did them for all of the other benefits, the the the all of the the the feel good, happy hormones, and the confidence and the self trust. But what happens over time is the physical benefits show up. Most people stop before results have a chance to show up. Most people quit. Before you have a chance to build the confidence that says, not only can I do this, but I can rock this. And if I can do this, and if I can rock this, what areas of my life am I playing small? What areas of my life can I also rock it? And and it all begins with the reps. You must be willing to put in the reps. And then acknowledge how the more you show up, the more you trust yourself. And the more you trust yourself, the more you build the confidence. And the more confidence you have in that area of your life, the the braver you are in the other areas of your life. I need a breath now. I just really went off there on the end. Or at the end. Move your body. I understand. Maybe you want to start moving your body because you do want your physical appearance to change. And if that's your motivation, fine. Do it. I'm not going to tell you not to. But if you can think about your movement as a daily non-negotiable, and if you can really lean into the benefits and and stop from time to time and look at your progress. Celebrate your progress. Because you know what? I I am doing way better in running than I than I could have imagined. Not even a month in, I didn't know that I had a future as a runner. And and I am signed up for a half marathon. It's it's not for a while. But here we go. Let's go. Let's do the hard things. Let's get ourselves out of bed without somebody there to help us. And let's build the trust and let's add the movement. Okay, I really need to go now because now I just feel like I'm I'm I'm a broken record. But you can do this. I see you, I believe in you, I I know that you are capable of more. And I know how building that self-trust, ooh, ooh, it's so good. It's so good. Okay, I gotta go. Until next time. Bye.
