- Lucas: Hey Luna, welcome back to Learn Dutch with Fexingo. Ready for another tiny lesson? Luna: Yeah, I'm excited. Last time we did numbers, and now I can count to five. But today we're revisiting greetings, right? Lucas: Exactly. We're focusing on greetings by time of day. You already know Hallo, maar we hebben ook Goedemorgen, Goedemiddag, en Goedenavond. Luna: Oh right, from episode one. But I want to get them really stuck in my head. Lucas: Perfect. Let's start with the most general one: Hallo. Say it with me: Hallo. Luna: Hallo. Lucas: Yes. You can use Hallo any time of day. Now, for the morning: Goedemorgen. Good morning. Luna: Goedemorgen. Lucas: Great. The 'g' is a bit rough at the back of your throat. Goedemorgen. Luna: Goedemorgen. I'll keep practicing. Lucas: For the afternoon: Goedemiddag. Good afternoon. Luna: Goedemiddag. That one feels smoother. Lucas: Yes. And for the evening or night: Goedenavond. Good evening. Luna: Goedenavond. Lucas: Awesome. Let's do a quick role-play. I'll be a shopkeeper, and you come in at different times. Start with morning. Luna: Okay. Goedemorgen! Lucas: Goedemorgen! Welkom. Now it's afternoon. Luna: Goedemiddag! Lucas: Goedemiddag! Perfect. Now evening. Luna: Goedenavond! Lucas: Goedenavond! You nailed it. See how each one fits a time of day? Luna: Yeah, it makes sense. But what if I forget which is which? Lucas: No problem. Just use Hallo. It's always safe. But let's do another role-play: you're at a friend's house. Knock knock. Luna: Hallo! Oh wait, it's morning. Goedemorgen! Lucas: Goedemorgen! Come in. Now later, you leave. Say goodbye with Tot ziens from episode four. Luna: Tot ziens! Oh, and Goedenavond for evening. Lucas: Yes. Now let's review. I'll say a time, you say the greeting. Morning. Luna: Goedemorgen. Lucas: Afternoon. Luna: Goedemiddag. Lucas: Evening. Luna: Goedenavond. Lucas: And any time? Luna: Hallo. Lucas: Perfect. Now can you think of a time when you'd use Goedenavond? Luna: When I go to a restaurant for dinner? Goedenavond! Lucas: Exactly. And Goedemorgen at the bakery, like in episode three. Luna: Right. I remember that episode. The baker said Goedemorgen. Lucas: Yes. So now you have four greetings. Let's say them all together: Hallo, Goedemorgen, Goedemiddag, Goedenavond. Luna: Hallo, Goedemorgen, Goedemiddag, Goedenavond. Lucas: Beautiful. One more time, slowly. Luna: Hallo, Goedemorgen, Goedemiddag, Goedenavond. Lucas: You did it. And remember, practice these every day. Say them to yourself in the morning, afternoon, and evening. Luna: I will. Thanks, Lucas. This was short but really helpful. Lucas: That's the Fexingo way. Bite-sized, so it sticks. Keep listening and you'll build up your Dutch step by step. Luna: Tot ziens, everyone! Practice your greetings! Lucas: Dag! See you next time on Learn Dutch with Fexingo.
