- 1:36SPEAKER_01: Introductions here in case you are new.
- 1:39SPEAKER_01: Myself, Lakeland Grad, wide receiver, semi-pro captain, coached at Lackawanna College and four other semi-pro teams before being honored in the minor league football news hall of fame, now coaching at Abington Heights.
- 1:50SPEAKER_01: And the guy on the other side of my computer screen, one heck of a defensive back, Valley View graduate, NEPA Sports Hall of Fame, and the head football coach at Honesdale, former players, now both coaches on the same side of the microphone.
- 2:03SPEAKER_01: Coach Hawanitz, how are you doing this week?
- 2:05SPEAKER_01: Bouncing back like you always do to get to gain regain momentum.
- 2:09SPEAKER_01: What's new and exciting over there?
- 2:10SPEAKER_02: Something I'm uh happy to be here.
- 2:12SPEAKER_02: You know, week 10.
- 2:13SPEAKER_02: We I remember we just started this.
- 2:14SPEAKER_02: I remember sitting down to lunch and uh talking about how we're gonna do the show, and now we're uh you know multiple weeks in, 10 weeks in.
- 2:21SPEAKER_02: And uh I gotta take one second.
- 2:23SPEAKER_02: We uh I told you guys we're a little late because I was uh accepting an award on behalf of Homestead for the uh Scranton uh chapter of officials, uh Lou Pelazzi uh Sportsmanship Award.
- 2:35SPEAKER_02: So I want to thank the officials.
- 2:37SPEAKER_02: Uh you know, all those guys do a great job on Fridays and Saturdays, giving up their time and uh getting screamed at and everything else that happens to them on a Friday, right?
- 2:46SPEAKER_02: But uh I really appreciate uh getting that honor.
- 2:48SPEAKER_02: I know our school at home still is really excited and uh I'm proud of our kids for being nominated for that.
- 2:54SPEAKER_02: And uh I really do.
- 2:55SPEAKER_02: I just want to thank the officials.
- 2:56SPEAKER_02: They do such a great job and uh giving their time up every week away from their families and uh you know doing the things they do because that's again, without them, the these games don't happen.
- 3:05SPEAKER_02: So I'm uh and I know you'd feel the same way.
- 3:08SPEAKER_02: We've been around a lot of these guys for a long time, and uh I appreciate everything they do for us on a weekend.
- 3:14SPEAKER_01: It is not a job I would want, coach, being an official, you know, whether it's me yelling at the TV on on the weekends or you know, again, just just watching the pressure that they're they're under there.
- 3:24SPEAKER_01: Uh, you know, you always say, hey, walk in someone's shoes before you say anything, but they definitely have a tough job and uh like you greatly appreciate their work and what they do.
- 3:32SPEAKER_01: I try to have a little fun with officials every every weekend at the games in in a good way.
- 3:37SPEAKER_01: And congrats on your honor, Coach.
- 3:39SPEAKER_01: You know, for them to be able to recognize you and the program and anything sportsmanship related is always a great honor.
- 3:45SPEAKER_01: And you know, appreciate y'all so hustling here for our listeners.
- 3:48SPEAKER_01: Coach Juan, it goes from you know, uh, you know, get getting recognized there to flying, you know, safely under the speed limit, but uh getting back just in the nick of time for tonight's show.
- 3:57SPEAKER_01: So congrats and thank you there.
- 4:00SPEAKER_01: I'm gonna shift gears here to our partner spotlight.
- 4:03SPEAKER_01: Kleinbauer Mechanical and MV Electrical have been with Sportswire from the start.
- 4:07SPEAKER_01: Kleibauer keeps homes warm with top-notch boiler and heating service while MV Electrical powers them safely with expert panel upgrades, wiring, and generator installs across Northeastern PA.
- 4:18SPEAKER_01: Thank you for keeping us wired in.
- 4:20SPEAKER_01: Stay wired with Kleinbauer Mechanical and MV Electrical.
- 4:24SPEAKER_01: Be sure to check them both out.
- 4:26SPEAKER_01: And one more little ad here tonight, coach, that we wanted to mention.
- 4:30SPEAKER_01: Uh community in a cause, uh, quick cause that we care about tackling pancreatic cancer.
- 4:35SPEAKER_01: This Saturday at 1 o'clock, Lackawanna College football hosts Millersville, D2 NCAA football, right here in our backyard.
- 4:44SPEAKER_01: And it's all for a great reason.
- 4:45SPEAKER_01: The game benefits the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network, a local chapter here in NEPA that I'm a part of and also a national affiliate.
- 4:53SPEAKER_01: Come early for a trunk or treat, 11:30 to 1.
- 4:56SPEAKER_01: Bring the kids in costume, and then stick around for kickoff.
- 4:59SPEAKER_01: We got a beautiful game planned.
- 5:01SPEAKER_01: I think for$15, you get the trunk or treat and a D2 football game.
- 5:05SPEAKER_01: And this kicks off all November along, helping us tackle pancreatic cancer with pizza.
- 5:11SPEAKER_01: Any business order from Buona Pizza on a Monday, Tuesday, or Wednesday in November, you say you're ordering pizza for the pancreatic cancer action network, half of the proceeds go to the local chapter to support patients, caregivers, anyone fighting this terrible cancer.
- 5:29SPEAKER_01: So order lunch, do some good.
- 5:30SPEAKER_01: It's that easy in the month of November.
- 5:33SPEAKER_01: And coach, maybe a little future toast like show tease there.
- 5:38SPEAKER_01: Several former District 2 high school players are now suiting up at Lackawanna College.
- 5:43SPEAKER_01: Go to other you know great schools in our area.
- 5:47SPEAKER_01: Maybe we do something down the road, follow the kids, see how they're doing at a local level, these same kids that you and I have been talking about for 10 weeks.
- 5:55SPEAKER_01: Maybe Gabe Duda goes to Lackawanna Coach.
- 5:57SPEAKER_01: I don't know.
- 5:57SPEAKER_01: I hear some whispers, maybe a possibility.
- 6:00SPEAKER_01: But what do you think about district uh you know, Division II football in our area and the opportunities and you know, kind of what our kids have been doing after high school?
- 6:07SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I think we've had uh you know, we've had so many local kids uh all over.
- 6:12SPEAKER_02: I know there's uh you know a former player from Homestead playing at Chippensburg right now that's doing a great job uh starting a tackle for them.
- 6:20SPEAKER_02: And I know we've had a lot of kids in the last couple of years, and I think with Lackawanna now being right here, I think you're gonna start to see more local kids uh you know playing in the Peace.
- 6:28SPEAKER_02: Peace Act's such a great football league.
- 6:30SPEAKER_02: Uh, you know, I've had the opportunity to be around it a lot with my son playing baseball at Westchester before he went to BC.
- 6:37SPEAKER_02: And uh, man, what a great conference in all sports.
- 6:40SPEAKER_02: Uh, you know, a lot of local uh local games, local kids.
- 6:44SPEAKER_02: East Stralsburg, I know now, is uh ranked, I think, in the uh top 10 in the country, I think in uh Division II.
- 6:51SPEAKER_02: So we got a lot of great PSAC schools right around the corner from us that are you know do a great job recruiting, and I think you're gonna see more and more local kids uh hitting those schools.
- 7:00SPEAKER_02: And listen, Dan, you and I have talked about this.
- 7:02SPEAKER_02: I mean, the the landscape of college football has changed so much now with uh you know a lot of the D1 schools now.
- 7:08SPEAKER_02: They're I think recruiting, unless you're a four or five star, uh they just go to the portal for everybody.
- 7:13SPEAKER_02: So I think you're gonna see more and more of the, you know, kind of like those tweener kids that are gonna go to D2 schools, maybe light it up there and throw their names in the hat and see where you know where the portal will take them.
- 7:24SPEAKER_02: So I think you're gonna see these uh teams and these leagues like the PSAC getting even better over the next couple of years, and more and more I think kids from our area will start to hit those schools up.
- 7:34SPEAKER_02: 100%.
- 7:35SPEAKER_01: And you know, having coached at Lackawanna for three seasons and then working there for 20, every once in a while we'd get a local kid, and we're always rooting for that local kid, and there's a lot of reasons they didn't come.
- 7:46SPEAKER_01: The JUCO path isn't for everybody.
- 7:48SPEAKER_01: You know, it's I mean, they're D1 talent very often.
- 7:53SPEAKER_01: Um, you know, sometimes it's educational offerings, you know, wanting to go to a four-year school versus a two.
- 7:59SPEAKER_01: But now that opportunity to play football right here in your backyard.
- 8:02SPEAKER_01: Um, you know, I graduated from East Strasbourg, had a great experience there.
- 8:05SPEAKER_01: It was kind of like a little bit away from home, but still close to home.
- 8:09SPEAKER_01: But now to play D2 right here in Scranton is a great opportunity.
- 8:13SPEAKER_01: I know we had Gavin Anders and Sean Theodore in recent years, a couple of Aventon kids that came here, and and there's a lot of local kids that are there.
- 8:19SPEAKER_01: So I like I look forward to seeing more of that and talking about the kids that you and I have been covering for 10 weeks, you know, at Black Iwana College, at East Strasbourg University, and different PSAC schools.
- 8:30SPEAKER_01: So or I should say Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference.
- 8:33SPEAKER_01: If our athletic director's listening, he'll be yelling at me right now because the they want it to be called P S A C.
- 8:39SPEAKER_01: They don't want to hear PSAC, that's just a conference thing.
- 8:42SPEAKER_01: So I want to I want to be able to be able to respect that.
- 8:46SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I've been saying it for years, George, you know, and then I got to change there.
- 8:50SPEAKER_01: So week nine recap, an athlete of the week, first this lead coach.
- 8:55SPEAKER_01: You had a front row seat as always.
- 8:57SPEAKER_01: But boy, you've you've made your bread and butter there this year, bouncing back from adversity with a very strong win, a 52-15 win over mid-valley to move to 7-2, lock yourself up a strong playoff position.
- 9:10SPEAKER_01: We're gonna talk about what those playoff positions look like at the end of the show.
- 9:14SPEAKER_01: How is that game?
- 9:15SPEAKER_01: How's your team you know positioned right now as they go into week 10?
- 9:19SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I think it's uh, you know, I mean, we've we've gotten to a point now where we've earned that number three spot uh sitting at 7-2, uh playing Riverside this week, which would be a big game for us.
- 9:29SPEAKER_02: But uh we've locked in that third slot in the uh 4-A playoffs, which uh, you know, I mean, our our I know we're a 4-A school playing down a notch, but I mean I think our our league schedule playing Lakeland and playing uh Dunmore, uh, you know, playing a lot of teams that are above 500, um, you know, crossing over North Poke.
- 9:48SPEAKER_02: And I think it's you know, you earn those spots.
- 9:50SPEAKER_02: Uh, we talked about this.
- 9:51SPEAKER_02: Obviously, I'm not playing uh DV and uh prep in those schools, but like I said, playing Dunmore I think is is equally as tough as playing some of those places.
- 10:00SPEAKER_02: So uh, you know, all the schools now are jockeying for spots.
- 10:03SPEAKER_02: I think it's uh it's a nice position, I think, that we're in now, knowing you have that three seed locked in.
- 10:08SPEAKER_02: Uh, we know we're gonna have a home game next week.
- 10:10SPEAKER_02: Now, obviously, I don't know who we're gonna play yet, uh, which is a a stressful situation trying to figure out, you know, get a little bit ahead of things with scouting and things like that.
- 10:19SPEAKER_02: But uh, you know, there's a lot of schools this week jockeying for that, get in in that fourth spot or um, you know, get in, move up to that two three, uh, you know, where you might have to play the number one seed in the you know later on instead of early.
- 10:33SPEAKER_02: So um, you know, it's a it's an interesting time.
- 10:36SPEAKER_02: You guys are in a great spot now, sitting in that one seed, uh, you know, playing Pittsden next week, which I think at least you know you're playing and uh you know makes life I think a little bit easier.
- 10:46SPEAKER_02: Um but you know, it's a great time of year.
- 10:48SPEAKER_02: You get you start back in June or uh, you know, May thinking, hoping you could get to this spot, and now when you're actually here, uh, you know, it's an interesting spot to be in.
- 10:59SPEAKER_02: I think the kids are excited in all schools because everybody really has a chance, I think, uh, more or less going into this week to punch another uh week's worth of practice, another game, and kind of see where it takes you.
- 11:12SPEAKER_01: We definitely control our destiny at Abington with with the win we had, a 55-7 win over Scranton.
- 11:18SPEAKER_01: You definitely saw the youth in Scranton, and I think you know, similar with Mid Valley, you know, there were convincing wins we both needed.
- 11:24SPEAKER_01: And for our listeners, let that be just a little teaser there from Coach Howanitz of kind of how this last week impacted us and what the playoffs are gonna look like because we're ending our show a little bit different tonight with a nice little playoff preview.
- 11:37SPEAKER_01: But as we go back and just wrap up last week's recap, we've got to hit our athlete of the week, powered by Hydra Bats, because every great performance earns a great recovery.
- 11:47SPEAKER_01: And this week it goes to Carbondale's Caden Voglino, who ran for four touchdowns, 173 yards to power the Chargers past Lackawanna Trail, 40 to 21, clinching at least a share of Carbondale's first division title since 2005.
- 12:04SPEAKER_01: The Chargers are chasing history coach.
- 12:06SPEAKER_01: What do you think about the position they've put themselves in?
- 12:09SPEAKER_01: 2005's a long time.
- 12:11SPEAKER_02: I'm so happy.
- 12:12SPEAKER_02: Uh Carbonale's in a similar situation.
- 12:14SPEAKER_02: I think us at Homesdale, where we're making a little bit of history with some of these wins and being able to uh this is the first year uh that ever since the district playoff started in 1993 that uh Homesdale is gonna host a playoff game.
- 12:29SPEAKER_02: Like, think about that.
- 12:30SPEAKER_02: Like the and uh for Carbonell, first time since uh 2005, I think that they won her division.
- 12:36SPEAKER_02: Um, and Jeff and I are great friends, uh Coach Arthur, and I'm so happy for there, there's certain people I think that it means a little more to.
- 12:44SPEAKER_02: Uh Jeff's a Carbonale guy, played at Carbondale, uh, eats, sleeps, breathes, leads Carbondale.
- 12:51SPEAKER_02: And uh I'm so happy for coaches like that and kids, uh that it means so much to them to get to that point.
- 12:58SPEAKER_02: I know some people can poke fun at things and go, oh, well, they're playing this.
- 13:02SPEAKER_02: Listen, they're gonna be seven and three.
- 13:05SPEAKER_02: Uh probably one of their better records in a long time.
- 13:08SPEAKER_02: They're gonna win a division, I think, and then uh, you know, hey, get the fire trucks out, get them down main street, right?
- 13:16SPEAKER_02: It's a big deal.
- 13:17SPEAKER_02: I know a lot of people that are uh like again, if I was at Valley View, maybe not as big a deal.
- 13:21SPEAKER_02: You're at Abington, maybe because you've done it so many times.
- 13:24SPEAKER_02: But for so many of these kids that haven't done it and haven't tasted success uh like they have this year, it's awesome.
- 13:32SPEAKER_02: And you can't help but uh feel happy for these places, the coaches, the kids, the communities, and uh I really am happy for Carbondale, and Caden's been a huge part of that uh in his explosive this year uh as an offensive and defensive player.
- 13:46SPEAKER_01: Yeah, to your point, coach.
- 13:48SPEAKER_01: I mean, we we've celebrated everybody's successes all season and we'll continue to, but there is something extra special when a group of kids come together and do something that hasn't been done in a long time.
- 13:59SPEAKER_01: And Coach Arthur, I think I saw something on social media with his speech to the kids that you know from the last game, like his passion just exudes his love of Carbondale and that community.
- 14:10SPEAKER_01: So congrats to them there, congrats to our athlete of the week, Caden, Caden.
- 14:14SPEAKER_01: Man, I'm putting you on my fantasy football team again there as well.
- 14:17SPEAKER_01: Coach Dub Podcast.
- 14:18SPEAKER_01: I'm gonna have to have you on sometime with performances like that, four touchdowns, 173 yards.
- 14:23SPEAKER_01: So big congrats all the way around to Carbondale there and to your point, too, coach, with Honesdale and turn things around.
- 14:29SPEAKER_01: I see Doug Nolley's comment in there, the Taryn Ash days.
- 14:33SPEAKER_01: That was my time, I think.
- 14:34SPEAKER_01: I mean, he was a fast dude there, and uh it's always neat to recognize history like that as well.
- 14:39SPEAKER_02: And I could say this to Doug too, because uh, you know, he he's been up at our place and I've I've known him a long time, but uh it was great to turn around on Friday night on our sideline, and Taryn was standing there and he had his uh Letterman jacket on from uh you know he played uh in the 1990s.
- 14:54SPEAKER_02: I mean, I graduated in 90.
- 14:56SPEAKER_02: My last year playing was 92.
- 14:58SPEAKER_02: Uh he's probably last year was whatever 93, 94.
- 15:01SPEAKER_02: Uh, and it's great to see guys come back.
- 15:03SPEAKER_02: That's what I'm saying, how important it is for members of the community when you get back to that uh that success that you know has hasn't been there in a while.
- 15:12SPEAKER_02: And uh to see guys like that coming back, man.
- 15:15SPEAKER_02: You got a picture with Gabe Dude after the game.
- 15:17SPEAKER_02: He was so excited for Gabe, how he's doing.
- 15:19SPEAKER_02: I just think that's that's high school football.
- 15:21SPEAKER_02: I mean, that that's where that's why we coach, that's why kids play.
- 15:25SPEAKER_02: Uh, you know, that's why movies are made about uh you know Friday night lights.
- 15:29SPEAKER_02: It's it really is uh it means a lot, and and people don't think about it sometimes that way.
- 15:34SPEAKER_02: But it's the greatest sport on the planet uh on a Friday night.
- 15:38SPEAKER_02: Uh there's nothing better than a Friday night football game.
- 15:40SPEAKER_01: Yeah, there's something I love about all levels of football, but high school has that special thing.
- 15:45SPEAKER_01: And I'm I'm really thrilled, Doug's, you know, here tonight and bringing up Terry and Ash.
- 15:49SPEAKER_01: Because George, that I mean, you hear it, it's part of history there at Honesdale, but I haven't heard that name in a while, and it was a name I had a lot of respect for as a high school athlete growing up, and and there is that part of the high school game that I always love when the alumni come back and they support the program.
- 16:05SPEAKER_01: And you know, George, you could recognize you know uh Taryn and his history there, and you know, we all do that at our own programs, right?
- 16:14SPEAKER_01: We we always like to keep that history preserved because it it laid a foundation for for the kids today.
- 16:19SPEAKER_01: So awesome story there and a great way to kick off Cleats and Club tonight.
- 16:24SPEAKER_02: At Valley View of the Years, we would make the district playoffs.
- 16:27SPEAKER_02: We usually would practice Thanksgiving Day.
- 16:29SPEAKER_02: We'd you know, you'd usually play that Thanksgiving weekend, would be your first round of the state playoffs.
- 16:33SPEAKER_02: And we used to have uh alumni days back, Thanksgiving Day, because a lot of people would come back for their families, and it was just the kids had such a great time.
- 16:41SPEAKER_02: Uh, you know, we'd get 50 guys back from you know the 80s, the 70s, the 90s, uh, that would come back and watch practice and be around the kids.
- 16:50SPEAKER_02: And it really is.
- 16:50SPEAKER_02: I mean, it's a you know, it's a family, you know that.
- 16:53SPEAKER_02: I mean, football's a family more than any other sport, I think.
- 16:56SPEAKER_02: And uh, you know, these weeks like this and these playoff weeks help bring families together, and it's uh you know, it's a great feeling for a lot of these programs.
- 17:04SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 17:05SPEAKER_01: And it always strikes me when someone will bump into me and remember something from Lakeland from '95.
- 17:12SPEAKER_01: And I was like, wow, like I didn't even know this person even knew me, you know.
- 17:15SPEAKER_01: And you know, Coach Arthur recognized and I think there was an older gentleman that was listening to his post-game speech, and he recognized that piece of history there.
- 17:23SPEAKER_01: And you know, there were kids that looked up to Taryn Ash when he played, and so it just goes on and on, and it's a rich history here in northeastern Pennsylvania.
- 17:32SPEAKER_01: I'm glad we're we're part of it on Cleats and Clipboards, and we'll we'll continue to recognize it as we go for sure.
- 17:37SPEAKER_01: And I know there's a lot of history there at Valley View for sure.
- 17:40SPEAKER_01: And you know, again, when I I joke, we we talked when we started this show, you know, we used to play flag football in Fern Hill in the mornings, and you know, you think I'd be just tired after a Scranton Eagles game.
- 17:51SPEAKER_01: I was like, oh man, I'm playing, you know, Duke's Bar tomorrow and Hoannetton with Sochaker there.
- 17:55SPEAKER_01: Like I was amped for that because back in the 90s, I mean, that that they're the guys you know you looked up to.
- 18:01SPEAKER_01: So I love that.
- 18:02SPEAKER_01: And so you got me all pumped up here tonight, coach.
- 18:04SPEAKER_01: We're ready to roll.
- 18:05SPEAKER_01: But we've got some other football.
- 18:07SPEAKER_01: We've got some other football we've got to cover here.
- 18:09SPEAKER_01: Still perfect teams from last week, Coach.
- 18:12SPEAKER_01: Dallas beats Hanover 42 to 13.
- 18:14SPEAKER_01: Dunmore crush Riverside 58-6.
- 18:17SPEAKER_01: Both are heading 9-0 into the final.
- 18:19SPEAKER_01: I feel like we've said it all and we're saying the same thing every week, but one week to go, Coach.
- 18:24SPEAKER_01: Are they positioned right where they want to be?
- 18:26SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I think so.
- 18:27SPEAKER_02: Um, you know, Dunmore is going to play Lakeland.
- 18:29SPEAKER_02: I think in Lakeland with their quarterback out, I think it's, you know, they're not obviously as good as they would have been if uh they were at full strength, right?
- 18:35SPEAKER_02: And we know that.
- 18:36SPEAKER_02: And and uh listen, I had this conversation with Coach too when we played Lakeland.
- 18:40SPEAKER_02: I mean, he he felt he was in a pretty good position to be able to play them tough this year, and you know, it's a little bit tough now, but I still think that'll be a good game.
- 18:47SPEAKER_02: And then Dallas is gonna play Berwick uh end of the year, like you think about years uh in the Wyoming Valley Conference, Dallas versus Berwick.
- 18:55SPEAKER_02: I mean, it's gonna be a uh you know a head rocker during that game, but uh same thing.
- 19:00SPEAKER_02: I think Dallas in a good position.
- 19:01SPEAKER_02: I think those two teams will stay undefeated, and uh, I think you know they'll they'll be tough outs in the district playoffs as well.
- 19:09SPEAKER_01: And then we have this chase of other top teams in the in the standings with Scranton Prep edging Valley View 14-7 to stay at 8-1.
- 19:16SPEAKER_01: North Pocono beats Wall and Popak 28-14 to sit in 8-1 as well.
- 19:22SPEAKER_01: Coach, thoughts there.
- 19:23SPEAKER_02: Uh Prep will win this week, they'll be 9-1.
- 19:26SPEAKER_02: Uh North Pocono win this week, they'll be 9-1.
- 19:29SPEAKER_02: Uh, again, depending on their seeds, prep will be the one seed.
- 19:32SPEAKER_02: Uh, I just I don't think anybody in triple A can beat Prep.
- 19:35SPEAKER_02: Uh North Pocono, again, a lot of teams in the 4-A playoffs.
- 19:39SPEAKER_02: I mean, listen, you get to 4-A and you know this, like it's a who's who.
- 19:43SPEAKER_02: It's gonna be Valley View, uh, Berwick, Dallas, uh, you know, Crestwood.
- 19:48SPEAKER_02: Uh, you know, you throw some of the newcomers like us, Paw Pack.
- 19:52SPEAKER_02: So uh, you know, there's a lot of good teams in there.
- 19:54SPEAKER_02: Carbondale, Carbondale's gonna be one of the lower seeds at 7-3.
- 19:58SPEAKER_02: Think about that.
- 19:59SPEAKER_02: Carbondale could be a seven seed at seven and three coming out of the district uh two four-a playoffs.
- 20:05SPEAKER_02: Uh, and that that's again, that that's where we're at.
- 20:08SPEAKER_02: I think in the Lackawanna conference, uh, especially.
- 20:11SPEAKER_02: We got a lot of good teams with good records that uh, you know, are gonna make these playoffs interesting.
- 20:17SPEAKER_01: You can tell Coach Juanitz has his eye on the prize of the postseason.
- 20:20SPEAKER_01: He's throwing out all kinds of teasers here, looking ahead to next week and in the playoffs.
- 20:25SPEAKER_01: We're getting very close.
- 20:26SPEAKER_01: Well, that's where you're at now, right?
- 20:27SPEAKER_02: I mean, that this is what teams want at the beginning of the year.
- 20:30SPEAKER_02: You know, you hope you can get to this point where you can be excited and know you're gonna play a week 11.
- 20:35SPEAKER_02: Uh, and that's that's what a lot of these teams have, you know, that's where you're geared up for.
- 20:38SPEAKER_02: And you'll get some teams now that know where they're at.
- 20:41SPEAKER_02: They're gonna rest some guys, not play them as much, not run them as much, right?
- 20:44SPEAKER_02: I mean, uh, and and you know, get ready for that.
- 20:47SPEAKER_02: Because at the end of the day, uh, this is a terrible thing.
- 20:50SPEAKER_02: I've said this for years, though.
- 20:51SPEAKER_02: You want to win a district championship, right?
- 20:53SPEAKER_02: I mean, that that's the that's the main goal, I think, of most teams in Northeastern PA.
- 20:58SPEAKER_02: And uh, you know, everybody division is alright, but I just don't think it means nearly as much as it used to.
- 21:04SPEAKER_02: You want to win a district championship, so that's what you're geared up for right now.
- 21:08SPEAKER_01: 100%.
- 21:09SPEAKER_01: 100%.
- 21:10SPEAKER_01: We we already hit on Honesdale and Abington Heights.
- 21:14SPEAKER_01: There's this other 7-2 logjam of teams, coach.
- 21:17SPEAKER_01: We have Carbondale, 40-21 win over trail, Wyoming area 63-21 over Nanacoke, Pittsden, 42-12 over Wyoming Valley West, Old Forge, 37-6 over Holy Cross.
- 21:31SPEAKER_01: My Lakeland Chiefs do bounce back 42-12 over Western Wayne, all sitting at 7-2, setting up a wild seating week.
- 21:39SPEAKER_01: Coach, what do you make of this 7-2 log jam?
- 21:41SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I think it's gonna be uh, you know, you're gonna get a lot of teams now that again, they're jockeying for spots.
- 21:47SPEAKER_02: Uh you know, the games are gonna mean something.
- 21:50SPEAKER_02: Um, you know, it's it's gonna be a it's gonna be an interesting Friday.
- 21:54SPEAKER_02: And and uh, you know, I have people all week saying, well, who do you think you're gonna play?
- 21:58SPEAKER_02: Who do you and you really don't know.
- 22:00SPEAKER_02: And we'll talk about the playoff scenarios at the end, but uh there's so much that goes into these playoff points that every single game, and the important thing is it's not just your game that counts, it's the teams you played that could win or lose games that could knock you out of a playoffs or knock you down uh a couple seeds.
- 22:19SPEAKER_02: So there's so much that goes into this, which is really, really interesting.
- 22:23SPEAKER_02: Uh and like I said, all these teams now jockeying at that seven and two log jam, um, you know, they're they're these seeds matter because you you don't want to play some of the better teams early.
- 22:33SPEAKER_02: You want to play them, you know, round two or round three uh instead of round one.
- 22:37SPEAKER_02: So uh all these games on Friday are gonna really matter.
- 22:40SPEAKER_01: Yep, sometimes they say it's not who you play, but it's when you play them.
- 22:43SPEAKER_01: And we'd also like to we'd like to play them at home as well.
- 22:46SPEAKER_01: So 100%.
- 22:49SPEAKER_01: Delaware Val shuts out West Granton 35-0.
- 22:52SPEAKER_01: Holy Redeemer beat Montrose 42-9.
- 22:56SPEAKER_01: Berwick beats Crestwood 24-8.
- 22:58SPEAKER_01: Hazleton edges Wilkesbury 14-13.
- 23:02SPEAKER_01: Toncanic beats Susquehanna 26-0.
- 23:05SPEAKER_01: And Lake Lehman won 14-6 at Northwest coach.
- 23:09SPEAKER_02: Yeah, good uh some good games, some big wins for some teams that really needed wins.
- 23:13SPEAKER_02: Uh especially Redeemer beat Montrose.
- 23:16SPEAKER_02: Uh Berwick, big win for them.
- 23:18SPEAKER_02: Uh, we thought Hazleton would beat Wilkesbury.
- 23:20SPEAKER_02: We talked about that last week, which is a big win for them.
- 23:23SPEAKER_02: Uh, you know, Tonkanic getting a uh, I think their second win, which is nice uh for that team.
- 23:28SPEAKER_02: I feel bad for Susquehanna.
- 23:29SPEAKER_02: I think they're one of the only teams without a win this year.
- 23:32SPEAKER_02: And then uh Lake Lehman for seeding, and them that that this that game kept them uh in the mix uh to make a playoff run now here and going into week 10.
- 23:43SPEAKER_01: Coach, you're setting up as we go into week 10.
- 23:46SPEAKER_01: Our updated sports wire rankings starting with the big school top 12.
- 23:52SPEAKER_01: I think it's fleshed itself out pretty well.
- 23:55SPEAKER_01: I may or may not have a challenge flag.
- 23:58SPEAKER_01: Take us through these top 10 rankings.
- 24:00SPEAKER_02: One, two, three, I think are no-brainers.
- 24:02SPEAKER_02: Uh Dallas undefeated, North Pocono.
- 24:05SPEAKER_02: Uh, you know, be I Dallas will be 10-0.
- 24:08SPEAKER_02: I think North Poco will be 9-1.
- 24:09SPEAKER_02: And again, I think if those two teams play, which they may end up playing in the district final, I think that'll be a great game.
- 24:15SPEAKER_02: Abington, uh, since your your loss like three or four weeks ago, I think has played great football against some really good football teams.
- 24:23SPEAKER_02: Um 4-5 and 6 to me are probably all interchangeable.
- 24:27SPEAKER_02: Um, you know, obviously Holmesdale sitting at 7-2.
- 24:30SPEAKER_02: Nice win over uh Mid-Vally.
- 24:32SPEAKER_02: Valley View lost.
- 24:33SPEAKER_02: Uh so we dropped them back a couple spots.
- 24:36SPEAKER_02: Uh, they've had a couple weeks' worth of losses.
- 24:38SPEAKER_02: Pitstons was scoring a ton of points.
- 24:40SPEAKER_02: Um listen, this is the only thing I'm gonna say, and they've done a great job.
- 24:44SPEAKER_02: Coach has done a great job there.
- 24:46SPEAKER_02: Um, I was talking about this to my coaches the other day.
- 24:49SPEAKER_02: The Wyoming Valley Conference only has four teams above 500.
- 24:52SPEAKER_02: Think about that.
- 24:53SPEAKER_02: In the whole conference.
- 24:54SPEAKER_02: So they have uh Dallas, Pitston, Berwick, and um Wyoming area are the only four teams in the whole conference that are above 500.
- 25:04SPEAKER_02: All right, so uh again, I I think strength of schedule and things like that kind of come into play a little bit.
- 25:10SPEAKER_02: So that's why I think five, five, and six probably could be interchangeable.
- 25:14SPEAKER_02: Uh Berwick at seven, they've played pretty good football.
- 25:17SPEAKER_02: I think their quarterback, Cleaver, is going to be coming back, which I think gives them an immediate shot in the arm, which I think they'll be tough.
- 25:23SPEAKER_02: Well, and Paul Pack, a couple losses the last couple weeks, again, tougher part of their schedule.
- 25:28SPEAKER_02: Their game against Valley View, eight plays six, will be uh a huge seeding game on Friday at Valley View.
- 25:34SPEAKER_02: Uh Delaware Valley, a couple wins the last couple weeks.
- 25:37SPEAKER_02: Again, their 5-18, tough out.
- 25:40SPEAKER_02: And then uh Carbondale is gonna end up 7-3.
- 25:43SPEAKER_02: Uh, and again, think about it.
- 25:45SPEAKER_02: A 7-3 team is our 10th ranked team uh, you know, in our uh D2 big school top 10.
- 25:53SPEAKER_01: And that's probably my challenge flag.
- 25:55SPEAKER_01: The the the spirit of Carbondale tonight, you know, I I believe in my comments where I coach at 5-4, ranked third.
- 26:02SPEAKER_01: If they stay focused, practice like they need to practice, you know, they can make a run, they're playing well the last few weeks.
- 26:09SPEAKER_01: But when you look at a Carbondale team all the way back at 10th with seven wins, coach, defend that a little bit for me.
- 26:16SPEAKER_02: The only thing I'm gonna say, and again, I'm not knocking anybody, I'm happy they're where they're at.
- 26:20SPEAKER_02: I said that.
- 26:21SPEAKER_02: Carbonale played two teams that are uh you know, 4A and above.
- 26:25SPEAKER_02: Uh, they played us and lost.
- 26:27SPEAKER_02: They played West Granton early in the year and lost.
- 26:29SPEAKER_02: So I just think they'd struggle against uh, you know, they we've already beaten them, so four, five, six, seven, eight, uh, and nine, I think would uh, you know, would be able to beat Carbonell.
- 26:41SPEAKER_02: And again, I feel bad for Carbonil because they're really a 3-A team.
- 26:44SPEAKER_02: Uh, they're only playing 4-A because they they've added the kids from uh 4 City, so they have to take those numbers on, and it was kind of like a mess up kind of thing.
- 26:55SPEAKER_02: So uh they're probably a 3-A team having to play 4-A, which again, if they're 3-A at 7-3, they're probably fourth in our uh, you know, our small school top 10 instead of 10th in our large school top 10.
- 27:07SPEAKER_02: So I feel bad for Carbonell because like I said, they're gonna be seven and three, probably a seven seed, and have to go play North Polk and or Dallas as their uh here's your thank you for you know for making district playoffs.
- 27:19SPEAKER_02: So I feel bad for them.
- 27:22SPEAKER_01: You know, it's some great points there, and I think that's what the listeners' benefits some education of what you know how they landed in that classification and how it could be different if they were in the small school.
- 27:31SPEAKER_01: We've learned a ton about strength of schedule this season and how that kind of factors in.
- 27:36SPEAKER_01: Uh, but Carbondale, hey, kudos to you.
- 27:38SPEAKER_01: You're 10th there right now, but you are playing the right football at the right time, and we'll see how far they could carry that momentum shifting from the big school to I couldn't wait for this when I saw these rankings come out.
- 27:49SPEAKER_01: The small school top 10.
- 27:51SPEAKER_01: I feel like Sportswire is finally listening.
- 27:54SPEAKER_01: Coach, is that co-number ones I see there for the small school top 10?
- 27:58SPEAKER_01: Yeah, take us through it.
- 28:00SPEAKER_02: At the end of the year, you're at a point now where uh I think both teams have been so dominant, uh, you know, Dunmore and Scranton Prep.
- 28:07SPEAKER_02: And again, we've had this conversation.
- 28:09SPEAKER_02: I think Prep plays a much tougher schedule uh than Dunmore does.
- 28:12SPEAKER_02: But Dunmore's been doing such a great job with the again, you play what you play, uh, and they've they've just run everybody out of the stadium.
- 28:20SPEAKER_02: Uh they'll have a little tougher game this week, I think, with Lakeland, just because Lakeland will be able to throw the ball and they're you know, they're athletic.
- 28:26SPEAKER_02: It'll be a little bit better, but I still think they're uh head and shoulders above everybody.
- 28:30SPEAKER_02: I see them get making a really far run into the state playoffs.
- 28:34SPEAKER_02: Wyoming area's been uh great the last five or six weeks.
- 28:37SPEAKER_02: They've really come uh you know come back, uh played Wyoming area football probably since the Dunmore game or week two or three uh where they struggle a little bit.
- 28:47SPEAKER_02: They've done a great job.
- 28:48SPEAKER_02: Lakeland back on the uh winning track again.
- 28:51SPEAKER_02: I think they have it figured out.
- 28:52SPEAKER_02: Now I told you this would happen.
- 28:54SPEAKER_02: Get that, get their quarterback uh more weeks of reps, get guys where they need to be.
- 28:59SPEAKER_02: Uh their coaching staff's fantastic.
- 29:01SPEAKER_02: They'll have them ready to play on Friday.
- 29:03SPEAKER_02: Mid Valley, I think, is a really good football team.
- 29:05SPEAKER_02: We play them Friday.
- 29:06SPEAKER_02: I think they're physical.
- 29:07SPEAKER_02: Uh Barnaskis is a great running back, their quarterback does a nice job, their defense played hard.
- 29:12SPEAKER_02: They'll be tough.
- 29:14SPEAKER_02: Uh Western Wayne came back, I think.
- 29:16SPEAKER_02: They've done a nice job the last couple weeks.
- 29:18SPEAKER_02: Riverside's struggling out their quarterback, but I'm hearing he's gonna be back this week.
- 29:22SPEAKER_02: So that'll be a big shot in the arm for Rose uh coming back to play for Riverside.
- 29:27SPEAKER_02: Lake Lehman, tough schedule, but they've done a nice job.
- 29:30SPEAKER_02: And then Old Forge and Trail, even though they have losing records, uh, they've played great the last couple weeks, so that rounds out our top ten.
- 29:37SPEAKER_01: Well done there.
- 29:39SPEAKER_01: I know Dave, I see you there with the prep over Dunmore.
- 29:42SPEAKER_01: I'm still saying Dunmore over prep, but hey, I can't wait to see how both of these schools do in the postseason.
- 29:48SPEAKER_01: They've had wonderful seasons and deserve to be at the top of those rankings.
- 29:51SPEAKER_01: And Wyoming area, we we see you right behind there.
- 29:54SPEAKER_01: They're finishing very strong.
- 29:56SPEAKER_01: Coach, we go to that point of the show where it's time for the fit of the week, fueled by Fit AF Nutrition.
- 30:03SPEAKER_01: Our sports wire team is watching every Friday night for the best game days fit, game day fits.
- 30:09SPEAKER_01: And this week's fit of the week goes to Brody Foos of the Blue Mountain Eagles.
- 30:16SPEAKER_01: Now, this is a very nice fit.
- 30:18SPEAKER_01: Before I get into the Fit AF plug, you know, he's looking sharp there, very chill in the locker room, has the headphones on and the eye black getting ready for game day there.
- 30:27SPEAKER_01: You know, all the black on black looks very nice.
- 30:31SPEAKER_01: He's got the little you know muscle bands that seem to be trending in high school football there.
- 30:35SPEAKER_01: Helmet looks sharp with all the stickers and the visor.
- 30:38SPEAKER_01: So that that that looks pretty pretty tough, man.
- 30:41SPEAKER_01: You know, Brody.
- 30:44SPEAKER_02: I black, I like it.
- 30:45SPEAKER_01: But it but I did tell producer Brad earlier today as that we were discovering this.
- 30:50SPEAKER_01: I I gotta throw the red challenge flag there.
- 30:52SPEAKER_01: He it reminded me too much of that helmet of the Philadelphia Eagles.
- 30:56SPEAKER_01: You could tell I'm a Cowboys fan there.
- 30:58SPEAKER_01: So so Brody, as much as I love your drip and fit of the week and you deserve it, you know, that Philadelphia Eagles styles helmet, I'm a little concerned.
- 31:05SPEAKER_01: And then we got a District 11 winner on a District 2 television or uh, you know, podcast here.
- 31:11SPEAKER_01: So I throw the challenge flag in fun, but nah, congrats, Brody.
- 31:15SPEAKER_01: Great job, fit of the week.
- 31:16SPEAKER_01: We we definitely recognize in you.
- 31:18SPEAKER_01: And when it comes to your own fuel, check out Fit AF Nutrition Meal Prep.
- 31:22SPEAKER_01: Use the code Eagles20 to save 20% off your first order of seven meals or more.
- 31:28SPEAKER_01: Fit of the week, fueled by Fit AF Nutrition.
- 31:34SPEAKER_01: Now, coach, we shift to the last but not least week of the season, week 10 preview.
- 31:42SPEAKER_01: I can't believe we're here.
- 31:44SPEAKER_01: Starting out with a spotlight game.
- 31:46SPEAKER_01: Man, you know, I've been eyeballing this game up all season.
- 31:50SPEAKER_01: Unfortunately, Lakeland's had some injuries, but they still set sit at 7-2.
- 31:55SPEAKER_01: They figure things out with their third quarterback, travel to Dunmore, who's 9-0.
- 32:00SPEAKER_01: I have some some nightmares of traveling to an undefeated Dunmore team, some flashbacks here.
- 32:05SPEAKER_01: Coach, how do you see this one playing out?
- 32:08SPEAKER_02: I think Dunmore uh keeps their unbeaten streak alive, but I think it'll be a better game.
- 32:12SPEAKER_02: Uh, tough to play at Dunmore, and again, I had to do it this year.
- 32:15SPEAKER_02: I think they'll be fired up for this game.
- 32:17SPEAKER_02: You'll see them play to another level.
- 32:19SPEAKER_02: Uh and listen, I'm gonna be honest with you.
- 32:21SPEAKER_02: I I sat down with my kids on Monday uh and I put on the Riverside play Dunmore, so we're watching Riverside film.
- 32:28SPEAKER_02: I said, I don't even want you to look at Riverside for the first five minutes.
- 32:32SPEAKER_02: Just watch the aggression and speed that Dunmore plays uh week in and week out.
- 32:37SPEAKER_02: Like they went down on on kickoff.
- 32:39SPEAKER_02: I said, just look at the bodies.
- 32:41SPEAKER_02: There was bodies all over the ground.
- 32:42SPEAKER_02: They're running guys over.
- 32:44SPEAKER_02: They started the game with a safety, uh, like the second or third play of the game.
- 32:49SPEAKER_02: So um, I mean, they are just physical, fast, and they they wanna uh they wanna play with reckless abandon, which is just that's why they're gonna win a lot of games.
- 32:59SPEAKER_02: And I'm I'm trying to convince, you know, and tell our kids this is how you have to play if you want to be a championship caliber team.
- 33:04SPEAKER_02: So Dunmore plays that way, and they'll amp it up even more against Lakeland.
- 33:08SPEAKER_02: You know, obviously with Unoney and uh You know and McCormick and Wolf and Burke, they had Coltard score last week.
- 33:15SPEAKER_02: They just have a lot of bodies that can come at you.
- 33:17SPEAKER_02: Um, you know, Rosencrans has done a great job.
- 33:20SPEAKER_02: McFarlane will be the two guys that Dunmore will have to take care of.
- 33:23SPEAKER_02: Like I said, I think if they have any weakness, I think it's the way they cover the pass.
- 33:28SPEAKER_02: So I think they'll have uh Lakewell have a little bit of uh you know an advantage over certain teams because they'll be able to throw it around a little bit, they'll spread them out, uh, get guys out of the box and chuck it around.
- 33:38SPEAKER_02: So uh, and that's what I would tell them to do.
- 33:40SPEAKER_02: Now we're not you know at home still, we're not geared enough to do that, I don't think.
- 33:44SPEAKER_02: But uh weapon-wise, Lakeland has the weapons to be able to do that, which will be a little bit interesting and see if how Dunmore uh does against a team that wants to do, you know, a little more pass, a little less run, spread them out and chuck it all over the yard.
- 33:57SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I think we're seeing this game play out the same way.
- 34:00SPEAKER_01: It breaks my heart.
- 34:01SPEAKER_01: It's the first time I think all season I've picked against my Chiefs, but I I've been going for Dunmore all year, saying they they've earned that number one ranking behind Weston You know, and that defense.
- 34:11SPEAKER_01: I mean, they they just keep stack stacking powerful performances.
- 34:15SPEAKER_01: But Chiefs give it everything you got any given weekend.
- 34:18SPEAKER_01: Anything, you know, we could get an upset.
- 34:20SPEAKER_01: You never know.
- 34:20SPEAKER_01: You've been playing hard all year, you've been rallying all year, see what happens.
- 34:24SPEAKER_01: But Dunmore, I I think we see them at 10-0, coach.
- 34:28SPEAKER_01: Dallas, another undefeated team at 9-0, has to travel to Berwick.
- 34:33SPEAKER_01: I don't know if I'd want that road trip at the end of the year.
- 34:36SPEAKER_01: Our other unbeaten team with Talon Gesky.
- 34:39SPEAKER_01: Can they finish this season perfect, Coach?
- 34:42SPEAKER_02: My favorite place on the planet to play a football game uh is Berwick.
- 34:46SPEAKER_02: You know that.
- 34:46SPEAKER_02: I've talked about that.
- 34:47SPEAKER_02: The sirens, the uh, you know, the fireworks going off, the atmosphere, the history.
- 34:53SPEAKER_02: Uh it is just a great place to play, and I love going there.
- 34:57SPEAKER_02: Uh and Berwick people know that.
- 34:58SPEAKER_02: I love Berwick uh fans.
- 35:00SPEAKER_02: I love the whole, uh, like I said, the whole atmosphere, the everything that goes on there.
- 35:05SPEAKER_02: I just love it.
- 35:05SPEAKER_02: It is high school uh 101 with football, and I'm I'm uh I'm happy they have this huge game coming to them uh you know in in week 10.
- 35:14SPEAKER_02: Uh, you know, Dallas, Pitt Cavage, three touchdowns last week.
- 35:18SPEAKER_02: Uh Mason, Saranak, touchdowns, Gesky, running and passing touchdown.
- 35:23SPEAKER_02: I mean, they just have so many guys that come at you.
- 35:25SPEAKER_02: And again, we keep saying this about the same teams, right?
- 35:28SPEAKER_02: Dunmore, a lot of bodies coming at you.
- 35:30SPEAKER_02: Dallas, a lot of uh guys coming at you.
- 35:32SPEAKER_02: So uh Berwick will come back with Galusha.
- 35:35SPEAKER_02: He's done great.
- 35:35SPEAKER_02: Three touchdowns, 100 yards rushing last week.
- 35:38SPEAKER_02: Uh they have a great uh field goal kicker with Yost.
- 35:41SPEAKER_02: Um, my question is if Cleaver's back, um, how much of an impact we have in this game?
- 35:47SPEAKER_02: And I'm hearing he could be back.
- 35:49SPEAKER_02: Um, I'm interested to see what an impact he could have.
- 35:51SPEAKER_02: Now, I don't think he'll be enough, um, but man, he makes a ton of plays.
- 35:56SPEAKER_02: If you I watched him early in the season on film, he is fast.
- 36:00SPEAKER_02: Uh, and you know, he's he is uh, you know, every bit of what the Lakeland kids brought uh with their quarterback.
- 36:07SPEAKER_02: So um I'll be interested.
- 36:09SPEAKER_02: I think Dallas wins the game, but I think uh it could be a good one if Cleaver's back.
- 36:14SPEAKER_01: Yeah, this is one of them that just has that little feel to me of a Berwick team at home late in this season as the weather's getting colder with all their horses.
- 36:23SPEAKER_01: Could be a little bit of a trap game.
- 36:25SPEAKER_01: But I think it's a great opportunity for Dallas to make this a statement game on the road and finish the season like they've played all year.
- 36:31SPEAKER_01: So I have Dallas winning, but hopefully they're having a good week of practice and not taking Berwick lately.
- 36:37SPEAKER_01: Should be a good great win to watch Friday night.
- 36:40SPEAKER_01: Old Forge 4-5 travels to Carbondale 7-2.
- 36:44SPEAKER_01: Carbondale can turn its shared division title into an outright one with a win behind the athlete of the week.
- 36:50SPEAKER_01: Caden Vogelino.
- 36:51SPEAKER_01: Coach, do they keep rolling?
- 36:53SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I think this is gonna be a good game.
- 36:55SPEAKER_02: Uh again, Carbondale, I think, is is better than teams think.
- 36:58SPEAKER_02: Uh, they they have the same thing.
- 37:00SPEAKER_02: They have a like a three or four-headed monster.
- 37:03SPEAKER_02: They can bring guys at you, rushing the ball, throwing the ball.
- 37:06SPEAKER_02: Uh Vogelino's been great.
- 37:07SPEAKER_02: The two Vogelinos, you don't have to deal with one, you got to deal with the brothers.
- 37:11SPEAKER_02: Uh, and you know, they they're win the division with this win, uh, first time since 2005.
- 37:17SPEAKER_02: So that'll be a little extra fuel.
- 37:19SPEAKER_02: Uh Oford's been playing a lot better.
- 37:21SPEAKER_02: Gotowski, uh, Parker Hart have been doing a nice job.
- 37:24SPEAKER_02: Bobby Pizzotti's uh had a receiving touchdown.
- 37:27SPEAKER_02: So they got a lot of guys, they're playing a lot better now.
- 37:30SPEAKER_02: Um, I just think Carbonale skill-wise is just be a little bit too much for them.
- 37:34SPEAKER_02: They have to go to Carbonale.
- 37:35SPEAKER_02: Uh, I see Carbondale clinch in their division, uh, get those fire trucks ready in Carbondale, and uh, you know, like I said, they'll they'll roll into the 4-A district playoffs.
- 37:46SPEAKER_01: Yeah, Coach Schuback, I mean, it's tough.
- 37:48SPEAKER_01: They got off to such a slow start, and then they figure things out, they finished strong, but it just feels destined for Carbondale there.
- 37:56SPEAKER_01: Like, I just I just feel it, and I think they're gonna play with everything they got to make sure they that they they capture that history and come out with a win.
- 38:04SPEAKER_01: So I'm with you, man.
- 38:05SPEAKER_01: Sound the sound the sirens there for Carbondale this with this weekend.
- 38:08SPEAKER_01: Wyoming area seven and two at Pittsden area seven and two, another seven and two showdown coach.
- 38:15SPEAKER_01: Wyoming Valley conference finale with real seating weight here.
- 38:19SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I think this will be the best game of the week.
- 38:21SPEAKER_02: Uh, this is a huge rivalry game.
- 38:24SPEAKER_02: Uh, you know, they're right next to each other.
- 38:25SPEAKER_02: So uh, you know, what a great way to end the season with these two teams.
- 38:30SPEAKER_02: Um, you know, Wyoming area, Kadroski, Kopechny, uh, Morris, Bartel, McKearn, and again, a lot of guys scoring points for them.
- 38:39SPEAKER_02: Uh Kopechny has just been great since he's took over that uh quarterback spot early in the season.
- 38:45SPEAKER_02: Uh Pitston scores a ton of points.
- 38:48SPEAKER_02: Uh they had 42 points at halftime last week.
- 38:51SPEAKER_02: Uh Caden Bailey's been great.
- 38:53SPEAKER_02: Lepresto's been great.
- 38:54SPEAKER_02: Lepresto had a receiving touchdown and an interception return touchdown last week.
- 38:59SPEAKER_02: So they're getting a lot of points uh scored you know early and often.
- 39:03SPEAKER_02: I think, like I said, they got to go to Pitston Waming area.
- 39:07SPEAKER_02: Um, this is really this is a toss-up game for me.
- 39:10SPEAKER_02: I I'm not sure kind of how this is gonna go out.
- 39:12SPEAKER_02: I'm gonna take Pitston just because they're home, and I think uh, you know, they have the you know the guys offensively, I think, to outscore most teams.
- 39:20SPEAKER_02: So uh I'm gonna take Pitston here.
- 39:22SPEAKER_02: I think this gets them in uh you know, rolling into the playoffs to play you uh next week.
- 39:28SPEAKER_02: And um I think that'll be a great game too.
- 39:32SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I haven't known how I felt about this game.
- 39:34SPEAKER_01: Mixed emotions.
- 39:35SPEAKER_01: I I can't look past Delaware Valley because they've been a thorn on our side at Abington, so I'm not looking too much at Pittston here right now.
- 39:42SPEAKER_01: Um, but I used to coach a bunch of young kids from Wyoming area and one of my semi-pro teams the one year and got a little feel for their team.
- 39:49SPEAKER_01: I do believe this is going to be a showdown.
- 39:51SPEAKER_01: I'm gonna go opposite via this one, coach, and I'm gonna take Wyoming area by a point in a thriller.
- 39:57SPEAKER_01: Um, you know, maybe they could, you know, beat up Pitston area a little bit and help it help me out here at Abington.
- 40:02SPEAKER_01: So I'm I'm I'm giving Wyoming area the edge.
- 40:05SPEAKER_02: These games are always funny to me because it's like an NFL game where you think the you know the over-under is like 50 and then the game might be 10-7.
- 40:13SPEAKER_02: Right?
- 40:14SPEAKER_02: I mean, I don't think it will be, but it'd be funny if it, you know, these two teams score so many points.
- 40:19SPEAKER_02: Uh it'd be interesting if the score scores like 14-13 when you're looking Friday night.
- 40:24SPEAKER_01: All right, I'm expecting fireworks, but uh, I'm with you there.
- 40:26SPEAKER_01: I'll be I'll be at a you know halftime of the Abington game taking a peek and we'll see if coach coming to you is Riverside 5-4.
- 40:35SPEAKER_01: Your squad 7-2, rolling again behind Gabe Duda, closes the regular season at home against a Riverside team that's been missing NEPA scorer, scoring leader, Braden Rose.
- 40:47SPEAKER_01: You say he may be coming back.
- 40:49SPEAKER_01: I know he can't predict this game.
- 40:50SPEAKER_01: What do you expect for the fans this weekend?
- 40:52SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I think uh he's just been out a couple weeks, and I think he'll end up coming back this week to get, you know, I don't know if he'll go a whole game or anything like that, but I think he'll come back to get some work in before the playoffs.
- 41:03SPEAKER_02: Um, they've really struggled.
- 41:05SPEAKER_02: Obviously, they have they're having a had a lot of injuries.
- 41:08SPEAKER_02: I feel bad for uh, you know, they have a new coach there.
- 41:10SPEAKER_02: It's a tough way to kind of go through the season.
- 41:12SPEAKER_02: You start off so well, and then you know, you get your top player banged up and some other guys, but um, you know, they they play good defense, they're physical, they're fast, they're obviously athletic, having a division one kid a quarterback if he's back.
- 41:25SPEAKER_02: So uh, you know, it'll be a tough game for us.
- 41:28SPEAKER_02: Uh it's nice being home.
- 41:29SPEAKER_02: I'm happy we're home.
- 41:30SPEAKER_02: Like I said, I think our our kids are uh refocused after the uh egg we laid at Dunmore.
- 41:36SPEAKER_02: And uh, you know, I think it'll be a good football game, though, a good way to end the season and uh get ready for the first round of the playoffs.
- 41:43SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I think we, you know, our coaches at Abington, we sometimes, you know, just from a distance, seeing how teams are doing and seeing how Riverside was impacted by that loss of Rose, because they were rolling with him, and then they lose him.
- 41:57SPEAKER_01: Now he may come back, but how much in what capacity?
- 42:00SPEAKER_01: My prediction here, I've always been just a believer of momentum and home field advantage.
- 42:05SPEAKER_01: I think their edges, I give Honesdale the edge, but I think if Rose comes back, depending on what capacity, I think there's gonna be a real exciting game for the fans.
- 42:13SPEAKER_01: So we'll see.
- 42:14SPEAKER_01: Next year on Cleats and Clipboards.
- 42:16SPEAKER_01: One of the suggestions I got, coach, was maybe we bring in a third-party special guest for the Abington Honesdale games to kind of, you know, break the ties or give a non-biased view.
- 42:25SPEAKER_01: Not that you and I are ever biased because we because we stay out of predicting our own our own teams, but it should definitely be a good one in Honesdale Friday night at seven.
- 42:34SPEAKER_01: Fans go out and see that one.
- 42:35SPEAKER_01: One more game we're gonna spotlight before we go to Rapid Fire.
- 42:39SPEAKER_01: Delaware Valley 3-6 coming to my Aventon Heights Comics Coach 5-4.
- 42:44SPEAKER_01: You know, it we're rolling.
- 42:46SPEAKER_01: Delaware Vales had their struggles.
- 42:48SPEAKER_01: I've got to say, hey, hats off to Coach Olsomer.
- 42:50SPEAKER_01: I believe was it win number 200 last week that they earned?
- 42:53SPEAKER_02: You know, so congratulations, King.
- 42:55SPEAKER_01: All right, big milestone for coach there.
- 42:57SPEAKER_01: He's done such a great job with that program.
- 42:59SPEAKER_01: Um, you know, they're they're a younger team right now, but they are always a thorn in Abington's side.
- 43:04SPEAKER_01: And Coach, I am not looking past anything knowing Delaware Valley's coming in here because they always play us really tough.
- 43:11SPEAKER_01: How do you see this playing out?
- 43:13SPEAKER_02: Well, I think uh I just think Abington's always been this way.
- 43:18SPEAKER_02: I think when they get things rolling, they're really tough to beat, and uh especially when you're home.
- 43:22SPEAKER_02: Uh, if you had to go to Delaware Valley, I think it'd be a you know, it's tough to get on the road for an hour and go to games and play there.
- 43:28SPEAKER_02: I just think it's a tough atmosphere to play at.
- 43:30SPEAKER_02: Um, but you know, with Anglin and how well you guys are running the football, and then you're getting uh you know some other guys involved.
- 43:37SPEAKER_02: I just think you're you know you're you're playing where you want to be right now, uh moving into the playoffs.
- 43:42SPEAKER_02: Uh Delaware Valley, you know, obviously you got to stop uh Devin Esteves.
- 43:46SPEAKER_02: He had two more touchdowns last week, almost 150 yards rushing.
- 43:50SPEAKER_02: Uh, you know, Orby's done a nice job for them as their quarterback, but um you know, I see this as one of those games.
- 43:57SPEAKER_02: I just don't know if Delaware Valley will be able to score enough.
- 44:00SPEAKER_02: To keep up with you guys.
- 44:01SPEAKER_02: So uh, and if you notice when they've played a lot of the better teams, it's been like 28-7, 21-7.
- 44:07SPEAKER_02: They just haven't been able to score a lot of points.
- 44:10SPEAKER_02: So I expect the same thing here with you guys on Friday.
- 44:13SPEAKER_02: Uh, you know, uh Abington, like I said, once Coach Ruptius gets them uh, you know, where they're on that Abington Heights path, I just think they're a tough team to beat.
- 44:22SPEAKER_02: And I see you guys uh keeping that thing rolling on Friday.
- 44:26SPEAKER_01: Yeah, definitely should be a good one.
- 44:28SPEAKER_01: They could definitely run the ball as you identified.
- 44:29SPEAKER_01: And they got some passing chops.
- 44:31SPEAKER_01: It's just not always clicking for them there, you know, you know, missing a catch here or just missing a throw there, but they could be dangerous, and the comments have to be ready for that.
- 44:40SPEAKER_01: So that should be a good one as well.
- 44:42SPEAKER_01: And and coach, the the comments are are fire here tonight.
- 44:45SPEAKER_01: I think we have an interesting request there, coach.
- 44:47SPEAKER_01: You may know this guy here.
- 44:48SPEAKER_01: He's he's he's putting in requests for the for the first special special guest there on uh cleats and clipboards.
- 44:53SPEAKER_01: I don't know.
- 44:54SPEAKER_01: That still sounds a little biased there, Larry.
- 44:56SPEAKER_01: We'll see.
- 44:57SPEAKER_02: Well, listen, if you when he says the OC, he's talking about Dave Rebar.
- 45:01SPEAKER_02: So uh it would be a very interesting show if we got Dave here to do some uh commentating, which would be awesome.
- 45:08SPEAKER_02: He could tell some great stories at Syracuse and some of the places he's been, but uh it'd be very interesting.
- 45:13SPEAKER_01: I don't think I've ever had a boring conversation with Coach Rebar there, George.
- 45:19SPEAKER_01: You've got to have fun, like every single practice, I think.
- 45:22SPEAKER_01: You know, he came and we talked a few weeks back.
- 45:25SPEAKER_01: I think he left just a couple minutes early of one of your practices to see his daughter play soccer at Lackawanna College there and got to catch up with him for about five minutes.
- 45:32SPEAKER_01: And of course I was laughing.
- 45:33SPEAKER_01: You know, he's always got some great stories.
- 45:36SPEAKER_01: Around the district here, Coach, Rapid Fire, Wall and Popak five and four, travels to Valley View five and four, two ranked big school teams at five and four.
- 45:46SPEAKER_01: What gives?
- 45:47SPEAKER_02: Well, this is a true seeding game.
- 45:49SPEAKER_02: This is gonna be uh so right now there's these two teams are sitting uh what five and six, I believe, in the um, you know, in the district four playoffs.
- 45:59SPEAKER_02: So this is a huge game.
- 46:00SPEAKER_02: The winner of this, I think, is gonna jump.
- 46:02SPEAKER_02: Um, I think the winner of this game will jump to the four seed, which will give them the home game in the first round.
- 46:07SPEAKER_02: So this is a huge game, right?
- 46:09SPEAKER_02: So um well and Paul Pack's quarterback's been out, so they're gonna uh they use um Sam Keysendahl the last couple weeks, um, which I'm assuming he's gonna probably play again this week.
- 46:20SPEAKER_02: Ed Keysendah, you know, is their big go-to guy uh running the football, and they have Vargo to throw to him.
- 46:25SPEAKER_02: And then uh, you know, Valley View's been real balanced.
- 46:28SPEAKER_02: They they come at you with running, they come at you with passing, as you know.
- 46:32SPEAKER_02: Uh you played against them.
- 46:33SPEAKER_02: So uh this can be a great game.
- 46:35SPEAKER_02: Uh again, I just think you have to go to Valley View, which is a tough place to play.
- 46:39SPEAKER_02: And you guys uh you know found that out this year.
- 46:41SPEAKER_02: I mean, obviously it came away with a win, but it's a you know down the wire kind of win.
- 46:46SPEAKER_02: So um I'm gonna take Valley View here.
- 46:48SPEAKER_02: I think it's gonna be a good game.
- 46:49SPEAKER_02: Uh, but again, I wouldn't be surprised if Mom Paul Peck pulled an upset here and won like 21-20 or something like that, because uh they're playing pretty good football.
- 46:58SPEAKER_02: They have enough weapons, I think, to stay in games and they're physical enough defensively to stay in it.
- 47:03SPEAKER_01: Should definitely be a great win in Peckful there.
- 47:05SPEAKER_01: Get some Andy's Pizza, and those Cougars are very battle-tested after the last two.
- 47:10SPEAKER_01: Scranton prep, eight and one, goes to Scranton 0-9 coach.
- 47:16SPEAKER_02: Uh, this won't be a this will be probably a halftime game.
- 47:19SPEAKER_02: You know, Manning test Bosito's been pretty much the only offense for Scranton.
- 47:23SPEAKER_02: I again, same thing.
- 47:24SPEAKER_02: I feel bad for them.
- 47:25SPEAKER_02: They've had it, they've really struggled this year.
- 47:27SPEAKER_02: Uh, you know, coaches had a rough time, I think, his first year, but he'll get it turned around.
- 47:33SPEAKER_02: I think he's a uh coach is great at what he does.
- 47:35SPEAKER_02: He'll he'll figure this out at Scranton, and then obviously prep's gonna come at you with McPartland and Farmer.
- 47:41SPEAKER_02: Um, you know, they clinch a division with a win.
- 47:43SPEAKER_02: I think it's big for them.
- 47:45SPEAKER_02: Um the only thing that worries me is in every week when I read the newspaper, watch uh, you know, read through the little synopsis of the game, they're always highly penalized.
- 47:55SPEAKER_02: And I just uh think if you're going into the playoffs, you gotta start to figure that stuff out because it's gonna cost you a game uh at some point if you're you know, this touchdown's callback, this touchdown is holding, this like you gotta figure that out.
- 48:08SPEAKER_02: So uh, you know, hopefully for them they're able to figure that out before they get into the playoffs, and uh that it doesn't cost them a game somewhere here down the line.
- 48:16SPEAKER_01: Yeah, that's a great point, coach.
- 48:18SPEAKER_01: I've seen it in our game, I've heard it from other people in the district there.
- 48:22SPEAKER_01: They've got to play disciplined football, especially when they get into the playoffs.
- 48:26SPEAKER_01: West Granton, 3-6 at North Pocono, 8-1.
- 48:30SPEAKER_02: Yeah, North Pocono, same thing.
- 48:31SPEAKER_02: I think it's the same thing as that prep, too many weapons.
- 48:34SPEAKER_02: Uh West, Wolf, uh Zimmerman are just uh, you know, three senior studs for them.
- 48:39SPEAKER_02: They'll they'll keep making plays for them.
- 48:41SPEAKER_02: Uh West Scranton struggled, you know.
- 48:43SPEAKER_02: They have Sastre, they have Colbert.
- 48:45SPEAKER_02: Uh that's kind of been their hookup all year.
- 48:47SPEAKER_02: But uh again, I just think it's gonna be tough for them to score on this North Pocono defense.
- 48:53SPEAKER_02: Uh North Pocono's looking to keep that one seed, so it's a huge game for them.
- 48:57SPEAKER_02: Uh, especially if Dallas, if Dallas gets knocked off, they'll definitely be the one seed for your home uh through the district playoffs.
- 49:03SPEAKER_02: So this is a big game uh for North Pocono, and I see them going to nine and one.
- 49:08SPEAKER_01: Western Wayne, four and five at Mid Valley, both rank small schools jockeying for a playoff spot.
- 49:14SPEAKER_02: Yeah, this is another one of those huge games.
- 49:16SPEAKER_02: The winners in, I think the losers out.
- 49:18SPEAKER_02: So uh, you know, this is a true uh you know win and your end game, which is uh great for both teams.
- 49:25SPEAKER_02: Uh Mid Valley uh done a great job.
- 49:28SPEAKER_02: I thought they were good last week.
- 49:29SPEAKER_02: I am gonna a little shout out Richard Lupk uh Lupcho, uh their tight end last week, got hurt in our game with a uh just a horrendous injury uh to his arm.
- 49:39SPEAKER_02: Um and I'm hoping you know, get well wishes.
- 49:42SPEAKER_02: I'm hoping he's doing better.
- 49:43SPEAKER_02: Uh I know he went in for some surgeries after the game, so uh I'm hoping he's you know everything's good.
- 49:48SPEAKER_02: He's all stabilized, he's you know, back on his feet, ready to rock, and he'll be uh healthy in a short period of time.
- 49:55SPEAKER_02: So um, you know, Western Wayne's side, they're gonna have Grodak, they're gonna have Sparks, that's been their guys.
- 50:01SPEAKER_02: So this will be a good game.
- 50:02SPEAKER_02: Uh Mid-Vally is super physical, they run the ball very well.
- 50:06SPEAKER_02: Um, you know, losing uh Lupcho is not gonna help them much, though, because he's played linebacker for them.
- 50:11SPEAKER_02: But I still think they have enough.
- 50:13SPEAKER_02: So I'm gonna take Mid-Vally.
- 50:14SPEAKER_02: I think it's gonna be a really close game, but uh they're home, and I see them uh winning this game and making the uh the playoffs in 3A.
- 50:22SPEAKER_01: Certainly some great football in our final weeks, and that is one of those games.
- 50:26SPEAKER_01: Coach, we have Tunkanic traveling to Lake Lehman 2-7 versus 5-4.
- 50:31SPEAKER_01: Lehman looking to finish above 500 and lock down a seed.
- 50:34SPEAKER_02: Yeah, Lake Lehman's got to win this game to make it as well.
- 50:37SPEAKER_02: Uh Strenfull and Magnata had rushing touchdowns last week.
- 50:41SPEAKER_02: Tunkanic, uh Siprich, 206 yards rushing, two touchdowns.
- 50:44SPEAKER_02: Tyoke uh Coakley had a passing touchdown to Newell last week.
- 50:48SPEAKER_02: So um I just think Lake Lehman offensively and defensively a little too much for Tunkanic.
- 50:53SPEAKER_02: Uh so I see them winning and then kind of uh scoreboard watching to see what happens with that mid-value Western wing game.
- 51:00SPEAKER_01: Montrose 4-5.
- 51:02SPEAKER_01: At Lackawanna Trail five and four.
- 51:04SPEAKER_01: Trail tries to close the regular season on the right side of the bubble.
- 51:08SPEAKER_02: Yeah, Montrose hasn't had a whole lot of offense the last uh five or six weeks.
- 51:12SPEAKER_02: So they've had stroll to uh Nebuaniak's been about it.
- 51:16SPEAKER_02: Uh Edwards has done a nice job for uh Trail.
- 51:19SPEAKER_02: Uh they need this win for the playoffs.
- 51:21SPEAKER_02: So uh you're going to Trail.
- 51:22SPEAKER_02: I expect Trail to win this game.
- 51:24SPEAKER_02: And uh again, same thing, scoreboardwatch.
- 51:27SPEAKER_01: Crestwood 1-8 at Wyoming Valley West.
- 51:30SPEAKER_01: Wyoming Valley West, 4-5, trying to get to 500.
- 51:33SPEAKER_02: Wyoming Valley West needs this game to get in the playoffs.
- 51:36SPEAKER_02: Uh Crestwood, same thing.
- 51:38SPEAKER_02: They're gonna uh Crestwood's battling with um uh who are they battling with?
- 51:44SPEAKER_02: Crestwood is battling with Nanokoke and Hanover, who's gonna we're gonna talk about in a second.
- 51:49SPEAKER_02: So those three teams are vying for that number eight spot.
- 51:52SPEAKER_02: Uh so this will be an interesting game.
- 51:53SPEAKER_02: Crestwood struggled.
- 51:55SPEAKER_02: Uh I think Wyoming Valley West has too much offense.
- 51:58SPEAKER_02: Rissinger, uh Malik Campbell.
- 52:00SPEAKER_02: Uh Rissinger has been great.
- 52:02SPEAKER_02: Uh rushing touchdown.
- 52:04SPEAKER_02: Uh their defense did a great job last week.
- 52:06SPEAKER_02: Uh Crestwood's gonna come at you with Jekyll running the ball.
- 52:10SPEAKER_02: Teddy Taylor uh has been thrown a little bit more, but I just don't think they play uh well enough.
- 52:14SPEAKER_02: I'm gonna take Wyoming Valley West here.
- 52:16SPEAKER_01: I can't wait to how you close the show with the playoff picture there.
- 52:20SPEAKER_01: A couple of these teams have some really lower seeded records here, and they're they're trying to squeeze in.
- 52:25SPEAKER_01: So it'll be interesting to see how that plays itself out.
- 52:28SPEAKER_01: Nanacoke 2-7 at Hanover area, one and eight.
- 52:32SPEAKER_02: Playing game, right?
- 52:33SPEAKER_02: So this is, I think whoever wins this really has a uh a great shot because I don't think Crestwood's gonna win.
- 52:38SPEAKER_02: So I think who wins this game is gonna end up the eighth seed and having to play Dallas for North Pocono.
- 52:43SPEAKER_02: Um Begs to Justin Johnson's, but Nana Coke's big thing.
- 52:48SPEAKER_02: Uh you know, big hookup all year.
- 52:50SPEAKER_02: Hanover, Richardson to Richardson, uh brothers, I'm assuming.
- 52:54SPEAKER_02: Uh they don't run the ball at all.
- 52:55SPEAKER_02: All right.
- 52:56SPEAKER_02: I've I've looked back, their rushing totals are uh they're like the the uh bizarro world to Holmesdale.
- 53:02SPEAKER_02: We can't throw, but we have uh thousands of yards rushing.
- 53:06SPEAKER_02: Uh Hanover can't run, but they have thousands of yards passing.
- 53:09SPEAKER_02: So um I think Hanover wins this game.
- 53:11SPEAKER_02: It's at Hanover, uh, but I think it'll be a good game, and I think best gets Hanover into the uh 4-A playoffs as the eighth seed.
- 53:18SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 53:19SPEAKER_01: Wilkesbury 2-7 at William Sports 6-3.
- 53:22SPEAKER_01: Wilkesbury closes the regular season with this non-league row test.
- 53:26SPEAKER_02: Um William Sport will win this game.
- 53:28SPEAKER_02: They're tough.
- 53:28SPEAKER_02: William Sports uh 6-3.
- 53:30SPEAKER_02: Uh Tevin Williams, their quarterback's their do-it-all guy.
- 53:34SPEAKER_02: Uh Wilkesbury's really struggled.
- 53:36SPEAKER_02: Gilmore's been a uh runner for them, done pretty well.
- 53:39SPEAKER_02: Uh Cynthia Watson's been their hookup uh passing the ball, but uh they're going to Williamsport.
- 53:44SPEAKER_02: William Sports playing great football.
- 53:45SPEAKER_02: I see Williamsport winning this game.
- 53:48SPEAKER_01: Hazleton area three and six finishes the regular season out of district at Pottsville 6-3.
- 53:54SPEAKER_02: Pottsville 6-3.
- 53:56SPEAKER_02: They're balanced, they're tough.
- 53:57SPEAKER_02: Uh Hazleton's done a nice job, though.
- 53:59SPEAKER_02: Remember, we said last week uh that was kind of our upset special.
- 54:02SPEAKER_02: Uh Hazleton with a big win.
- 54:04SPEAKER_02: Uh Lantigua's to Lopez has been a great uh passing strike for them all year.
- 54:09SPEAKER_02: Heck, uh 101 rushing yards and a touchdown last week, but uh Pottsville at 6-3 is too much for Hazleton.
- 54:16SPEAKER_01: We shift to the final two games on Saturday.
- 54:19SPEAKER_01: Susquehanna 0-9 at Holy Cross 2-7.
- 54:23SPEAKER_01: What happens here, Coach?
- 54:25SPEAKER_02: I think Holy Cross wins.
- 54:26SPEAKER_02: Uh Rikowski's just been their offense, their quarterback at Holy Cross has been great.
- 54:30SPEAKER_02: Stone and maybe has been great at uh Susquehanna for them.
- 54:34SPEAKER_02: Listen, I think Holy Cross is gonna win.
- 54:37SPEAKER_02: I'm rooting for Susquehanna, though, because I don't want them to be uh a no-win team.
- 54:41SPEAKER_02: I feel I always feel bad for seniors.
- 54:43SPEAKER_02: Let's get that one win.
- 54:44SPEAKER_02: So uh and please don't feel bad, Holy Cross.
- 54:47SPEAKER_02: It's not like I'm actually rooting against you.
- 54:49SPEAKER_02: I just want to see the kids uh at least get one win.
- 54:52SPEAKER_02: Susquehanna.
- 54:53SPEAKER_01: Gonna be an interesting one there.
- 54:54SPEAKER_01: Sabres give it all you have.
- 54:56SPEAKER_01: And our last one here, Holy Redeemer at 5-4 closes the regular season at home against a non-league visitor, the Midwest Mustangs.
- 55:05SPEAKER_01: I couldn't wait to say Midwest Mustangs tonight, Coach, at 2-7.
- 55:09SPEAKER_01: What happens here?
- 55:10SPEAKER_02: Yeah, Redeemer, uh, too much passing with McDermott.
- 55:13SPEAKER_02: Uh, you know, they they just throw the ball over the yards like backyard football.
- 55:16SPEAKER_02: So I see Redeemer here beating uh Midwest.
- 55:21SPEAKER_01: Coach, we're gonna finish the show a little bit different here tonight to close.
- 55:24SPEAKER_01: Next week will be the clip, the Cleats and Clipboards playoff preview.
- 55:29SPEAKER_01: Can't wait.
- 55:30SPEAKER_01: But tonight we'll set the table with the implications.
- 55:33SPEAKER_01: Coach, I don't believe the public understands the postseason format as we discussed earlier, barely publicized.
- 55:39SPEAKER_01: But here on Cleats and Clipboards, we're gonna have Coach Juan, it's tonight's district two math class.
- 55:44SPEAKER_01: Take us through some district two playoff algebra.
- 55:47SPEAKER_01: Coach, break this down for us.
- 55:48SPEAKER_01: How does that what's the formula here?
- 55:50SPEAKER_01: What's it looking like?
- 55:51SPEAKER_02: All right.
- 55:52SPEAKER_02: So when when uh district two a couple years ago followed along with other districts and did power rankings for football, uh, along with basketball, does this too, and uh some of the other sports.
- 56:02SPEAKER_02: I think soccer does it.
- 56:04SPEAKER_02: Um, so there's a big formula.
- 56:06SPEAKER_02: You have to be a PhD from Harvard to figure out this formula because I was thinking last week, I'm like, all right, let me play with it a little bit, see if I can figure out who we play, and you really can't.
- 56:15SPEAKER_02: So it's pretty much um you get a weighted percentage for every win you have, uh, from 6A down to 1A.
- 56:22SPEAKER_02: There's a weight for each of the uh you know the A's to come after the team you played.
- 56:26SPEAKER_02: So 6A team, you get 1.25 for a win.
- 56:30SPEAKER_02: Uh, if you play a single A team, you get 0.75 for a win.
- 56:33SPEAKER_02: And then uh there's a loss percentage as well.
- 56:35SPEAKER_02: So if you lose to the team, uh you get that percentage uh and it works its way down.
- 56:40SPEAKER_02: All right, so that's part of it.
- 56:41SPEAKER_02: The other part of it is um your opponent's weighted winning percentage.
- 56:48SPEAKER_02: So you get a winning percentage, then it's your opponent's winning percentage.
- 56:52SPEAKER_02: So for instance, I'm just gonna give you a home stale because I think it's an easy way to do it.
- 56:56SPEAKER_02: So um we have a winning percentage of 0.768 if I round it, and then our opponent winning percentage is 0.559.
- 57:05SPEAKER_02: All right, so that means our opponents are over 500 uh and we're at um you know our 7 and 2 record, which puts us pretty much at that 0.68.
- 57:14SPEAKER_02: So you take those two numbers of your opponent winning percentage and your winning percentage, and then um you take those two numbers and you multiply uh those two numbers by your classification, and then uh you add the two numbers, which gives you a power rating.
- 57:31SPEAKER_02: All right, so uh for instance our power rating uh is 0.682, all right, based on that.
- 57:37SPEAKER_02: So again, different teams have different power ratings.
- 57:40SPEAKER_02: So there's so much math that goes into this.
- 57:42SPEAKER_02: So this is why I said when we talk about these games, it's not only your game on a Friday that matters, it's all your opponents that you've played.
- 57:50SPEAKER_02: Uh, and do they get wins or do they get losses on Friday or Saturday?
- 57:55SPEAKER_02: So there's been years where we've when I was at Ballet View especially where we wouldn't know who we were playing until Saturday night because a game on Saturday afternoon uh would matter, you know, with a certain little percentage on what your seating was.
- 58:08SPEAKER_02: So uh it's really an unbelievable formula.
- 58:11SPEAKER_02: It's never out there.
- 58:12SPEAKER_02: They usually, when you look at a publications, you have to go to uh you know certain um sites that have it on there, uh, and they they walk you through it.
- 58:21SPEAKER_02: But if you go on the District 2 site, they'll actually tell you what the math is, and believe me, it's never worth playing with.
- 58:27SPEAKER_02: So, anyway, because of that, uh, we're gonna talk about this real quick.
- 58:31SPEAKER_02: Um, for 1A, 1A is pretty much set.
- 58:34SPEAKER_02: Williams Valley is gonna be the one, Tri Valley's the two, Marion Catholics the three, and then uh Trail, Old Forge, and Holy Cross are buying for the four.
- 58:44SPEAKER_02: Now, Trail's playing Montrose, uh, so I think if they win, uh, that's gonna put them in.
- 58:49SPEAKER_02: Alright.
- 58:50SPEAKER_02: Uh Carbonell's playing Old Forge, which will be tough for them.
- 58:53SPEAKER_02: Now, again, if Old Forge beats Carbonell because Carbonell's seven and three, that could possibly give them that uh shoot they need to jump ahead of Trail.
- 59:02SPEAKER_02: Alright, so that's one A.
- 59:03SPEAKER_02: Two A is Dunmore, Lakeland, Riverside, and Redeemer.
- 59:06SPEAKER_02: That one's set.
- 59:08SPEAKER_02: Um, the only thing that could change is uh possibly Redeemer and Riverside could flip, but I don't think that'll happen because I think they're too far apart uh point wise.
- 59:18SPEAKER_02: That that's pretty much set.
- 59:19SPEAKER_02: 3A is prep, wimbing area, and then mid-valley, Lake Lehman, and Western Wayne are all clumped at that uh 3, 4, 5 number.
- 59:27SPEAKER_02: So again, Mid Valley plays Western Wayne.
- 59:30SPEAKER_02: I think the loser's out.
- 59:31SPEAKER_02: Uh and then Lake Lehman's playing Tonkanic, so I think they'll win, which will put them in.
- 59:36SPEAKER_02: So that's why I think that Western Wayne, Mid Valley game is gonna be a uh win in your end game, which is again interesting.
- 59:42SPEAKER_02: That's great for week 10, isn't it?
- 59:43SPEAKER_02: It's unbelievable.
- 59:44SPEAKER_02: 4A, uh North Pokeau and Dallas are gonna uh be one and two, depending on how the weekend goes.
- 59:50SPEAKER_02: Holmesdale, we're locked at three.
- 59:52SPEAKER_02: Um, Berwick, Paul Pack, and Valley View are the four, five, six right now.
- 59:57SPEAKER_02: Um, while Paw Pack and Valley View are five and six, they play each other.
- 1:00:01SPEAKER_02: So obviously, I think whoever wins that game, if Berwick loses to Dallas, which I think they will, that winner of that five-six game will jump to four, and then we'll have to see where Berwick uh and the loser of that five-six game end up.
- 1:00:15SPEAKER_02: All right, which again, very interesting.
- 1:00:17SPEAKER_02: Carbonils locked in, I think, at that seven.
- 1:00:20SPEAKER_02: I don't think they can jump.
- 1:00:21SPEAKER_02: And then Crestwood, Nana Coke, and Hanover, eight, nine, ten, and they're within uh.03 percentage points of each other to see who gets the eight seed.
- 1:00:31SPEAKER_02: So this is uh it's unbelievable.
- 1:00:33SPEAKER_02: You can't even make it up, right?
- 1:00:35SPEAKER_02: Um 5A, it's gonna be uh Abington and Pittston, depending on who wins this week.
- 1:00:40SPEAKER_02: We'll give you the home uh versus away team for the uh the next week's game.
- 1:00:45SPEAKER_02: All right.
- 1:00:45SPEAKER_02: Um Abington wins.
- 1:00:47SPEAKER_02: I'm assuming now again, even with yours, uh, I would be a little nervous because Abington's 0.62 and uh Pitston is 0.60.
- 1:00:57SPEAKER_02: Uh so again, the 0.02 percentage points could you know if Pitston beats a uh good team, which uh if they win this game this week, they're uh they're playing an over 500 team with a lot of points.
- 1:01:10SPEAKER_02: So could they jump?
- 1:01:11SPEAKER_02: Yes.
- 1:01:12SPEAKER_02: All right.
- 1:01:12SPEAKER_02: Uh so that'll be interesting.
- 1:01:13SPEAKER_02: You guys will be looking at scoreboards all night long.
- 1:01:16SPEAKER_02: And then 6A, uh Williamsport, Wyoming Valley West, Hazleton, and Wilkesbury are sitting at 1, 2, 3, 4.
- 1:01:25SPEAKER_02: Um Wilkesbury and West, uh, I think are gonna battle for that final spot, uh, that four spot.
- 1:01:32SPEAKER_02: Uh Wilksbury is playing Williamsport, I don't think they win.
- 1:01:35SPEAKER_02: West is playing North Pocono, I don't think they win.
- 1:01:38SPEAKER_02: Hazleton's playing Pottsville, I don't think they win.
- 1:01:40SPEAKER_02: So that's the three, four, five teams.
- 1:01:42SPEAKER_02: So again, you're at 0.47, 0.46, 0.45, they're gonna scoreboard watch.
- 1:01:52SPEAKER_02: So it's unbelievable some of these uh, you know, divisions, that bottom uh part of their bracket, that last seed, uh, is really gonna come down to can they win and scoreboard watch.
- 1:02:05SPEAKER_01: Man, I told the listeners there, man, Coach Howannit's uh algebra 101 here, whatever it may be.
- 1:02:11SPEAKER_01: Um Justin there, you know, any math tutors want to sponsor the next show.
- 1:02:16SPEAKER_01: You you heard what Coach Hoannitz broke down here tonight.
- 1:02:19SPEAKER_01: Coach, that was just awesome.
- 1:02:20SPEAKER_01: And wow, that's a that's definitely a lot to comprehend.
- 1:02:23SPEAKER_01: I know you shared uh the the data with me tonight, too.
- 1:02:26SPEAKER_01: I'm I'm looking at the standings while you were going over that, and there's a lot to play out here, and a lot to play for in week 10.
- 1:02:33SPEAKER_02: Yeah, let me just say this real quick.
- 1:02:34SPEAKER_02: If you are interested in it, which it is really interesting, if you go to the PIAA D2 site, all right, it's uh PIAD2.org, I think.
- 1:02:43SPEAKER_02: Um, they actually have the papers on there, which I printed out, so I have them here.
- 1:02:48SPEAKER_02: Um, they tell you how they do the math and they tell you how you can figure everything out.
- 1:02:52SPEAKER_02: And then uh EasternPAFootball.com, uh, we talked about this today.
- 1:02:57SPEAKER_02: I think they're the only one that does this.
- 1:02:59SPEAKER_02: You can go on there and you can go to every district and they give you a breakdown of the percentages of where teams are at.
- 1:03:04SPEAKER_02: So um that's what I'm assuming you guys at Abington, that's what you'll be looking at uh Friday night to see.
- 1:03:10SPEAKER_02: And they're very good at updating.
- 1:03:12SPEAKER_02: Like by 11 o'clock on Friday, I don't know how the heck they do it.
- 1:03:16SPEAKER_02: They have everything updated.
- 1:03:18SPEAKER_02: So you'll know uh, you know, unless there's a game on Saturday that matters, which for the bigger schools it's not going to.
- 1:03:24SPEAKER_02: Uh but for the smaller schools, they're gonna have to wait till Saturday because of the two Saturday games.
- 1:03:29SPEAKER_02: I'd say six, five, four, and maybe three.
- 1:03:33SPEAKER_02: Uh you'll know by about 11:30 on Friday night who you're playing uh the next week, or if you made it or didn't make it, which is, I mean, it's unbelievable when you think about it.
- 1:03:42SPEAKER_02: But uh, I'm just gonna say this real quick because I know we've got to get off.
- 1:03:45SPEAKER_02: But like 4A last week, Dallas was the one seed, North Pocono was two, uh we were three, Valley View was four, Paw Pack was five, Berwick was six.
- 1:03:56SPEAKER_02: Alright?
- 1:03:56SPEAKER_02: After our game Friday night, North Pocano's one, Dallas is two, we're still at three, Berwick jumps from six to four, uh Valley View drops from four to six, and Paw Pack stays at five.
- 1:04:11SPEAKER_02: Like, think about that.
- 1:04:12SPEAKER_02: That's one football game, and uh Valley View lost, Paw Pack lost, Berwick was the only team there out of those three that won, and they jumped up uh three spots because of that.
- 1:04:23SPEAKER_02: So it's again, it's unbelievable when you think about the power rankings the way they are.
- 1:04:28SPEAKER_02: Like the old school who wins, who loses isn't all of it.
- 1:04:31SPEAKER_02: It's it's your opponents if they win or lose now, going into this last week, which is unreal.
- 1:04:37SPEAKER_01: So strength of schedule is huge.
- 1:04:40SPEAKER_01: You yes it is you have set up a great playoff edition next week of Cleats and Clipboards, which is gonna be exciting, coach.
- 1:04:48SPEAKER_01: I think you've also probably set up a great offseason there.
- 1:04:50SPEAKER_01: There's a lot to unravel here in District 2 and then how this whole system works.
- 1:04:56SPEAKER_01: So great job tonight, coach.
- 1:04:58SPEAKER_01: Greatly appreciate that.
- 1:04:59SPEAKER_01: For our listeners, one quick ask before we wrap.
