- 0:07Hey everybody, welcome to another episode of Spider Sound
- 0:12Off. This is Tom.
- 0:13And this is Porter. We are back in our Henrico
- 0:15studios on a Sunday evening. We had two wins this weekend.
- 0:19It's a. Dual win weekend.
- 0:21Get us out of our the best. We had that O and three sad
- 0:24episode last week. Open Center showed up for both
- 0:28games. Yeah, this one will be a little
- 0:30more fun. We did, I might have mentioned
- 0:32earlier. By the way, these games.
- 0:34I, I think we, I did mention our last podcast, we were planning
- 0:37on having a guest today. The guest had to postpone.
- 0:41So we'll reschedule that and really can't blame him.
- 0:44So he's a, an assistant coach at a high school and that team made
- 0:49the playoffs. So they had to have a, a new
- 0:52practice scheduled for today. So they were practicing during
- 0:55our pod. So I told him to like, go get
- 0:58that team ready for the playoffs and we'll get him back later.
- 1:01Baby, just win. And when you're talking about
- 1:03someone who's been to two NCAA tournaments, like they know what
- 1:06they're doing, so you got to you got to give them.
- 1:08Are you dropping a hit? I don't know, maybe dropping a
- 1:10hit. But anyway, we'll reschedule
- 1:12that one later. We're working on some other
- 1:16guests too. We're not got nothing nailed
- 1:17down yet, but we'll, we'll definitely have some more guests
- 1:19between now and before we get to March Madness.
- 1:24But maybe we start this weekend with on Saturday morning there
- 1:28was a a race at University of Richmond.
- 1:31It was I. Heard you came in 3rd for.
- 1:33Your No, I didn't. Fourth.
- 1:35Yeah, let me tell that story. Yeah.
- 1:36So. But anyway, it's called the
- 1:37spider dash. I didn't even know it existed
- 1:39till this year. Thank you, Porter, for letting
- 1:41us know. OK, well, it's about.
- 1:44That's a 5K just running around campus.
- 1:47It was kind of a good day to run.
- 1:48It was like mid 40s, not too hot, not too cold.
- 1:52I'm an OK runner, but it's not a it's not like the Monument 10K.
- 1:57If anyone's run that here in Richmond, it's not.
- 1:59There's not a tons of people. Running it not a serious, not a
- 2:01competition. So and there's a lot of walkers.
- 2:03So, so I kind of, I ran the 5K like 26 minutes.
- 2:06It was OK time, nothing great. But I'm like, hey, in the 46 to
- 2:1055 aids group, like maybe I can get top three and get a
- 2:14certificate. I think that's what second and
- 2:16third get. I ended up in fourth.
- 2:20That's like, that's like the Olympics, man.
- 2:22You're like right there waiting for the war.
- 2:24Well, it's worse than. That you're you're runner up to
- 2:27win. Award.
- 2:27It's worse than that because third place was someone by the
- 2:30name of Jonathan Austin. OK, He's also known around town
- 2:35as Jonathan the Juggler. Jonathan the Juggler.
- 2:38He So what you're. Saying is, the juggler is.
- 2:39Fast he juggled while running. Wait, whoa, whoa, whoa.
- 2:43Time out. The dude was juggling balls in
- 2:46the air. Legitimately read me by a minute
- 2:49and got a certificate. That's right, he took your
- 2:52certificate. So third place, Well, well.
- 2:54Basically embarrassing you with balls in the air, right?
- 2:57That's exactly right. Unbelievable.
- 2:58I I cannot juggle. I've never been interested in
- 3:00juggling. I'm still not interested in
- 3:02juggling but I but I do need to learn to run faster because this
- 3:05guy can juggle and beat me in a you're.
- 3:07On the you're on the advanced side of the 46 to 55 inch
- 3:10bracket, at least to see 46. No, he's 55.
- 3:12Wow. Oh.
- 3:13So he's going, so next year I don't have to go against.
- 3:16The juggle, the competition will be lessened is what you're
- 3:18saying? It's funny too, because he
- 3:19passed me. We graduate the juggler.
- 3:22Probably before I'm not it was like, you know, not everyone
- 3:24started the exact same time, but he I saw him run by me maybe at
- 3:28like the mile. Mark, was he running?
- 3:29Backwards and he no, but he was juggling and I Oh my God, that's
- 3:32cool. And now in hindsight, I should
- 3:34have like knocked one of his balls out and he would have to
- 3:37go chase it and then dude. And then maybe, I mean, he
- 3:39would. Have you know what this isn't?
- 3:40Nobody says you have to be nice to get a certificate you.
- 3:43Need that certificate. But anyway, the best part about
- 3:44the spider Dash is that when it ended your price to run, instead
- 3:50of giving you like a shirt which you're never going to wear, you
- 3:52got to eat in the dining hall. Oh, that's it.
- 3:55So I had a big, had a big. I haven't had brunch in the
- 3:57dining hall in a while. Richmond has an awesome dining
- 3:59hall folks an awesome dining. So anyway, so it's world class.
- 4:02Got to run, got to pig out in the dining hall.
- 4:05And then later that day was Spider Brews.
- 4:08And I unfortunately missed both because I had to run back to my
- 4:10hometown. Unfortunately I had a a really
- 4:12good friend's parent pass away so I had to go to a funeral.
- 4:16So I missed all of this good stuff.
- 4:17I did scream back and getting back in for the time for the
- 4:21second-half of the game, but we'll talk.
- 4:22About that later. So anyway, Spider Brews was
- 4:24Saturday. It was a great time.
- 4:25Saw some people who going to Spider Brews for the first time
- 4:28and and with it being senior weekend at both the men's game
- 4:32and the women's game, it did remind me of and kind of to
- 4:36honor one of the parents of our seniors, Mike Walls's dad, my
- 4:42wife, I think it was two years ago as Spider Brews.
- 4:46Remember seeing Mike Walls's dad go to one of the coolers where
- 4:50they had four different beers and say give me a little of each
- 4:53in the same glass. Nice, a Little Mix.
- 4:55And he took a sip and was like, oh that was bad.
- 4:57And then poured it out and I got another beer.
- 4:59But I I love that story. So on senior day, maybe it
- 5:03reminded me of when Mike Wallaces dad tried to do a a
- 5:07mishmash what we used to call in.
- 5:10He was wearing 21 at the game. Yeah, that's right.
- 5:12Well, I remember being a kid, we called out the suicide when you
- 5:15went to the soda fountain and got a little bit of each one and
- 5:18ended up with some Gray liquid. But anyway, Spider Brews was
- 5:21fun. I think.
- 5:22What Porter you did show up at half time roughly.
- 5:25Yes, we were. Down.
- 5:26We were down three. I say 5, you say we were down 3.
- 5:29So we started with me. And I'm guessing you noticed
- 5:32that I had plenty of spider brews.
- 5:34Yeah, I would say it was. You were very loquacious and
- 5:39very loud. And luckily we should way up at
- 5:42the top so only the people at the top can hear you.
- 5:45But I was clean. I think most most people in the
- 5:48arena probably did hear you in that game.
- 5:50There was 1 ref which I just. Got under your skin?
- 5:53Yeah, he was bad. The other two were fine.
- 5:56This one guy just kept. I don't, I can't even remember
- 5:58because I had too many bruises, but he was bad.
- 6:01So I was pretty much yelling at him the whole time, but also
- 6:04cheering a lot. That was like fun.
- 6:06Games a very good game. Tons of scoring, no defense.
- 6:099994 I thought we'd get to 100. We lit it up.
- 6:13But we did have, well, I say a fan favorite or a non fan
- 6:18favorite to a guy who's a few rows behind us.
- 6:21Roma Glue had a couple of big threes.
- 6:23Yeah, that lifted our. Spirit actually was probably the
- 6:26difference in that second-half. Six rebounds, 2 huge threes and
- 6:31even though the analytics say he should not be the guy taking
- 6:34them when he hits it, we'll just throw the analytics out the
- 6:36window because we're we're fans 1st and and you know,
- 6:40statisticians and prognosticator second and he those, those two
- 6:43threes were huge difference maker in the game for us.
- 6:46So Congrats to AP for. That now it was a battle of two
- 6:49teams in the bottom 4 so. But the game was super
- 6:52entertaining, a lot of scoring. A huge crowd.
- 6:54I mean, it was a, it was a massive.
- 6:56Crowd. It was 5500.
- 6:57Well, that's a big crowd for a team that's, you know, bottom
- 6:59four in the A10. Still crowd.
- 7:02Probably 15 students. I didn't even bother counting.
- 7:04There were so little. Yeah, student, the student turn
- 7:07out hasn't been good. That's that's not been great.
- 7:09So. AJ and Will were over 20, so
- 7:13it's good to see kind of them. Argabright was 14, most in the
- 7:16first half. Actually had a huge first half
- 7:18to keep us in it. Nice little layup right before
- 7:19halftime. Yeah, Argabright looked great.
- 7:22I mean, so the offense was really clicking.
- 7:23Our defense was bad, just it was better than theirs, which which
- 7:28was good to see. Good enough, you know.
- 7:31The the team, we looked better this time without Beagle than we
- 7:35did last game. I think it's just either
- 7:36practicing more with that knowing that they're not going
- 7:39to have them off the bench so. It's nice to have AP to to give
- 7:42a another big Dick come in for walls that you know is a bit
- 7:45little taller than your 6465 centre right.
- 7:47So, you know, if they have, was it Martin on that team, Just
- 7:50Frank Martin? There's a big guy down.
- 7:52It's not Frank Martin. Mitchell, Frank Mitchell, yeah,
- 7:54Down low. I mean, that guy's a handful, so
- 7:56you've got to have somebody big on him.
- 7:58Yeah, and I like seeing, you know what?
- 8:00Obviously we'd love to have Beagle playing, but with Beagle
- 8:02out, we're seeing a lot more from Robinson.
- 8:08Daughtry was kind of He played some moments, had some moments.
- 8:13Play in the second-half we went right to the rim.
- 8:15We like to just see him continue to get a little more time, but
- 8:19you know, he's he's got to earn it.
- 8:21But anyway, big win we've got we're just talking early.
- 8:23We got three games left at Chicago.
- 8:28Who's really the bottom team in the league.
- 8:30That's going to be a win. That's a that's a it's a might
- 8:32be better me and then we end with Dayton at home and Dayton's
- 8:38OK, but they're not they're not the great Dayton team.
- 8:40This is an OK Dayton team. And then Duquesne, which is a
- 8:44similar level. They're both kind of 500, maybe
- 8:46a game over in the conference or fighting for that, those sort of
- 8:50spots. Now if you want to say, how do
- 8:55we make sure we're not in the bottom four?
- 8:57We have to win all. Three games, yeah, just to win
- 8:58all three. A2 out of three, maybe there's a
- 9:02chance, but we lose a lot of tiebreakers because we didn't
- 9:04beat many teams and we I mean we've got we beat all the bottom
- 9:07teams and they're not the ones we're going to be tying with
- 9:09yeah, I mean the. Teams that have six wins, like
- 9:11Rhode Island has the tiebreaker against this, GW has the
- 9:14tiebreaker against this. Our best chance would be us
- 9:16going at least two and one and Fordham losing their last three
- 9:20and both of us ending with seven wins.
- 9:22I think that's our best shot because Fordham has some tough
- 9:25games and we should be able to win two of our last three so.
- 9:29So we got a ways to go to figure that out, but it's likely we're
- 9:33in the bottom 4. But there's a chance we win
- 9:35these three games and heck, if we have a four-game winning
- 9:37streak, we'll be feeling a lot if you.
- 9:39Win the three games, you're going to be on the bottom 4,
- 9:40that's for sure. Yeah.
- 9:41But I mean, it's like, I mean, Dayton is, is is no pushover and
- 9:45Duquesne on the road is not going to be an easy game either.
- 9:47So it'll be tough. It'll be tough.
- 9:49But I mean, you know, the good news is, like we said earlier in
- 9:52the year, we have the ability to beat, I think any team won on on
- 9:57a given day. The problem is that we've shown
- 9:58no ability to stack wins against good teams.
- 10:02And so you're going to have to stack wins against good teams in
- 10:04the A10 tournament if you have any chance.
- 10:06And I haven't seen any, any signs that we can do that yet.
- 10:09Now, going back a day, it was Friday night, there was the big
- 10:14nationally televised A10 matchup of BCU St.
- 10:17Louis. Yeah.
- 10:18A little feisty. Ending well, yeah.
- 10:20So if anyone remembers, I think it was last year, there was a
- 10:22fight in the stands. I think it was like parents each
- 10:26team or fighting each other or something crazy.
- 10:29And then this is the good at Saint Louis this year.
- 10:32They already played in Richmond and Saint Louis won that game.
- 10:37So this was kind of a rematch in Saint Louis and BC, who had a
- 10:40big lead at half. BC looked like they were going
- 10:43to dominate this game, and then they got whooped by Saint Louis
- 10:48in the second-half and what was it?
- 10:51I don't know if you've seen that play, but they were basically
- 10:53dribbling out the clock and the guy dribbling out the clock kind
- 10:58of gave a little arm push to someone who got too close to
- 11:01him. And then he kept dribbling and
- 11:04then someone else came and stole the ball.
- 11:06He had a half court shot if I recall.
- 11:08No. Well, no.
- 11:08Well, he stole the ball and then Avila pushed him out of bounds.
- 11:12Yeah, OK. And then someone else came and
- 11:14pushed somebody else. A lot of pushing going on.
- 11:17I put on our Instagram page going back to a Providence game
- 11:20from a week ago and there was a big fight, like maybe these
- 11:22teams are trying to audition for the Big East and so they thought
- 11:25they had to get. Into a fight Fight Club.
- 11:26Because Big East like putting on fights, but that was pretty ugly
- 11:30moment. I think.
- 11:32I think we all agree that both teams should be banned from the
- 11:34a 10 tournament for that. That would actually be.
- 11:36But that's that's not what the Atlantic 10 decided.
- 11:40I think they find both schools and said like you're all we got,
- 11:42so you can just keep playing all your players.
- 11:46And but anyway, it's kind of funny to see that that Melee,
- 11:51you know, if we're not able to make a big run and upset some
- 11:55teams, those two are likely going to see each other in the
- 11:57final. Saint Louis is really good.
- 11:59I I mean, they're going to be a fine representative of from the
- 12:02A10 this year in the tournament. I want to see them beat some
- 12:04teams and and bring some prestige back to the A10.
- 12:07Like, I'd love to see them make a Sweet 16 year beyond run.
- 12:11Yeah, they'll be picked on a lot of brackets to win some games
- 12:13and they. Yeah.
- 12:14That would be nice, but they better keep their players on the
- 12:18bench and not, you know, running off the bench.
- 12:21I don't know did you see at the end of that game because there
- 12:22was like one point something seconds left.
- 12:24VCU had four players because that's all they had that were
- 12:27not ejected. OK, and Saint Louis had 6, so it
- 12:31was 5 on 4 for the last whatever second plus because the the
- 12:35melee happened on the other side of the court from the benches
- 12:38and all the benches kind of came out to the melee and there was
- 12:42still time left. So the all everyone on the VCU's
- 12:45bench got ejected and almost everybody from the same Who's
- 12:49the one I want to know who's the one person on the Saint Louis
- 12:51bench who sat there and didn't didn't get in the fight.
- 12:55So he didn't maybe he's an injured player, might have been
- 12:57hurt. You never know, right?
- 12:58But anyway, smart smart. For not getting involved though.
- 13:01So the men had a great win and then we went into today's game.
- 13:08Yes, big game. And the women were home against
- 13:12LaSalle, a team that had gotten hot.
- 13:14Started slow. First quarter wasn't pretty.
- 13:16Yeah, no, it was like we scored more than 9.
- 13:19So I was like, hey, we did score more than 9 in this first
- 13:22quarter, unlike the last couple of games, but.
- 13:25But the defense was not good, but in the first quarter, I
- 13:28should say. But we had kind of 1 kind of new
- 13:32kind of unsung hero kind of had played a little bit here and.
- 13:35There and you've been talking about it the last couple.
- 13:36I've never been. Talking about it, but Anisha
- 13:38Scott came in. Great, Scott, what happened?
- 13:41What happened? There, she just killed it and it
- 13:43actually reminds me I'm going to backtrack a bit at the spider
- 13:46dash we got like a bag of like stuff.
- 13:48You know, whatever you do races, you get a bag of stuff.
- 13:51Well, one of things we got was like this little, if you're
- 13:55watching it on video, it's a thing.
- 13:56And I realized, like for Anisha Scott, like, she's got the
- 13:59headband, right? Yeah.
- 14:00Should I rock the headband? Should.
- 14:01Rock the headband. Yeah, put that on.
- 14:03Yeah, I like that. I like that.
- 14:05In honor of Anisha, breakout performance is 20 points, 20, 20
- 14:11points. Last freshman scored 20 points
- 14:13in the game For our woman's program I believe was Maggie.
- 14:15Dude. I've heard January of 2023 by
- 14:17the way, 28 points against Saint Joe's in January of 2023 so.
- 14:20Maggie turned out all right. That's a pretty good company for
- 14:23a freshman, right, to be the, the, the first person after
- 14:26Maggie to do that. So we're, we're very excited and
- 14:29I think Rhode Island, who we play on Wednesday nights,
- 14:32probably rushing right now to the video room to try to work up
- 14:35a scout on Anisha Scott. Because I guarantee you Anisha
- 14:38was not on Lasalle's scout report.
- 14:39And it was if you watched how she took over that game in the
- 14:42second quarter, Coach, to his credit, saw the momentum in the
- 14:45spark left her in the entire second quarter, and then she
- 14:48played a ton in the second-half as well.
- 14:49Well, to his credit too, like he saw that spark in the last game.
- 14:52Yes, it's probably, you know, been watching film, kind of said
- 14:55like, wow, like, and I'm obviously putting words in his
- 14:58mouth. He may have said like, boy,
- 14:59maybe I should have used used her more in that game.
- 15:01Let me figure out how I get more action for her coming up and
- 15:05that we are in this kind of dull spot offensively.
- 15:08Brought her in probably at a similar time when he brought her
- 15:11in the last game. But he kind of let he let her
- 15:13go. And and if you didn't see it
- 15:16like she is a confident point guard, like there is nothing
- 15:19when she's when she's dribbling the ball, you think freshman
- 15:23like she dribbles with confidence.
- 15:25She's a good ball handler and she shot had two threes today.
- 15:28So she showed she can shoot from deep.
- 15:30Which is nice. We call we we said she's been
- 15:32very impressive offensively when she's been on the floor.
- 15:35I haven't been certain about the defense, but let me just give
- 15:37you this. She took multiple people to the
- 15:41rim repeatedly and scored in multiple ways.
- 15:44She was fouled a lot. She had some up and under.
- 15:46She had lay UPS. She had a bevy of moves around
- 15:49the rim, which given that she was the the smallest player on
- 15:52the Spider side, was very impressive.
- 15:54Secondly, you know, when they managed to cut it off, she
- 15:58showed a quick pivot and then flip out to the three-point
- 16:00shooter, which was, you know, exactly the Russell read and
- 16:02react system. So she played that part well.
- 16:05She took 2-3 pointers I think in the game or she hit 23 pointers
- 16:08and she was confident on on both of them.
- 16:09They looked really good. She showed a couple mid range
- 16:12jumpers. Now I'm not sure Roussel loves
- 16:14the mid range jumpers, but like she hit one of them.
- 16:16And again, when the confidence is, is looking like it was for
- 16:20her. Everything was working.
- 16:23The the ladies on the team mobbed her after the end of the
- 16:25game. The celebration was in full
- 16:27effect. I mean, they knew how special
- 16:28that performance was. 20 points out of Anisha Scott, just a
- 16:32really, really good format. She also kicked in three assists
- 16:34only had one turnover on the game.
- 16:37You know, put up her her her advanced stats for the game.
- 16:41We're we're off the charts. So I think you're going to see
- 16:45we've we've been thinking about the need for the 4th score to to
- 16:48be able to win the Atlantic 10 tournament.
- 16:50And you know, where we have the platoon at the five, which when
- 16:53it works, it works really, really well.
- 16:55We have Newell who can get to the rim, but you know, depending
- 17:00on whether or not her three-point shot is working or
- 17:01not kind of depends on whether she can be that 4th score.
- 17:05But like, but Scott in this game, I think scored so
- 17:09confidently. You actually now have probably
- 17:12two more games if your coach resell to figure out what you
- 17:15have going into the tournament. Could she be a difference maker
- 17:19in the A10 tournament? Or was it just that nobody had
- 17:21ever seen her and she just surprised everybody and took
- 17:23over a game? I mean, you know, now people
- 17:25know about her. You're going to see the scout,
- 17:27you know, come in on her. I'm not sure necessarily that a
- 17:31good scout's going to be able to stop her because like I said,
- 17:33she's got a multiple dimensions on her offensive game.
- 17:36But the thing that impressed me the most about her in that game,
- 17:37Tom, was just how good her defense was.
- 17:40She was in the right place. She was physical with her, with
- 17:42her player, I thought. She was a really good charge.
- 17:47Yeah, she was body and folks up. I mean, she just looked so good
- 17:51on on both sides of the ball. It's kind of a coming out party
- 17:54for Anisha Scott. She has announced herself to
- 17:56Spider fandom that I'm here and I'm not going to be ignored.
- 18:00And you know what? We are all paying attention now.
- 18:03So, yeah, so that second quarter, so we were down 21 to
- 18:0516 after the first. We outscored them in the second
- 18:08quarter 28 to 12, yes. And I at halftime, I think it
- 18:12was at halftime was what, or maybe it was a time out.
- 18:15Anisha had been on fire. She was coming to the sideline.
- 18:20Coach was like front in the line to give her like a like a little
- 18:24low 5. And he had this look on her
- 18:26face, on his face of like, it was like a mean look like, and
- 18:30not like I'm mad at you, but like, like, like you're playing
- 18:34so tough. I just so he gave this like
- 18:36tough look on his face of like man like that was awesome.
- 18:39You even said like on one of her moves on the far side of the
- 18:41court she just literally abused a player going to the rim.
- 18:45Maybe it was a went underneath the basket for a reverse layup
- 18:48and and Ally and the coach looked, it was one of the
- 18:51assistant coaches looked at each other and just shrugged and fist
- 18:54bumped each other like, yeah, that's that right.
- 18:56That's pretty impressive, so. Yeah.
- 18:57And So what if if you didn't see the game and this is like I
- 18:59think where we can see the opportunity.
- 19:01It's not that like now we have the big four, like we're not
- 19:03putting Anisha Scott is not there, but like her and Newell
- 19:07can now play together and give Ally a rest.
- 19:10Absolutely. Or or her and Ally can play
- 19:12together. Coach played her and Ally
- 19:14together and that was. Pretty funny and give new and
- 19:16give Newell a rest. I mean because Ali has played 40
- 19:19minute games at times this year and we've just come off of all
- 19:23these games in the rows. We know the conference
- 19:26tournament is going to be multiple games in multiple days.
- 19:29So at a minimum, even if Anisha Scott is not this big difference
- 19:33maker in the tournament, if she can give Ali, you know, 33
- 19:38minutes a game for the rest of the season and just have Ally
- 19:41that much more fresh when we get to the A10 tournament, like
- 19:44there's value there. Just.
- 19:46It's just it's another weapon and I, you know, give herself
- 19:49some time to kind of figure out what he's got with this because
- 19:51it's I mean, for for one, how exciting are we now for next
- 19:54year? Like, I mean, I was so worried
- 19:55about losing so much, but you've seen moments out of Anisha
- 19:59Scott, you know, Rain Wright and Porschetti can play, you've got
- 20:02Ali back and you've got Alicia Newell.
- 20:05I mean, you've got like 5 players now that I feel pretty
- 20:07confident can can do some pretty good stuff for us next year.
- 20:10Plus these great recruits coming in.
- 20:12A couple other things about the game.
- 20:13It was senior day, so the before the game, really nice gesture.
- 20:17Our three of our seniors took flowers over to the LaSalle
- 20:20seniors, presented them with flowers saying hey, it's last
- 20:22time you beat the Robin Center. Congratulations.
- 20:24I loved it because it was Maggie, Rachel and Sam.
- 20:27So we sent over like our, you know, 2 future Hall of Famers
- 20:30and said here, here's some flowers because that, that's
- 20:33just an intimidation factor. And I and I love that.
- 20:35By the way, you're wait a minute, they're disarming me
- 20:37with how nice they are. And now I've got to go cover
- 20:39her, right? So I love that gesture.
- 20:40And then, you know, we announced all the seniors and there are
- 20:43quite a few seniors on this team, you know, ending the
- 20:45ceremony with with Rachel and Maggie and just to get to see
- 20:50them with their parents and getting applauded and and
- 20:53recognized. It was special, special moment,
- 20:55special day. Big crowd today too.
- 20:56It was great to see very good day today in the.
- 20:58Robinson Well, a couple things just to add to that, which is
- 21:01interesting. It's, you know, you only see
- 21:02this in the women's games is that they at 1 of the time outs,
- 21:05they recognize the three seniors who are on the like the practice
- 21:10team. Yeah.
- 21:11So they have they have undergrad male undergrads from the
- 21:15university who volunteer and some of them are managers on the
- 21:18men's team who kind of volunteer their time to go to the women's
- 21:22practice to be another team that the women will practice against.
- 21:26So I don't know if it's every practice, it probably isn't, but
- 21:28every now and then they're kind of the scrimmage team.
- 21:31And so they honored kind of three of those seniors.
- 21:34Again, you don't you won't see that on the men's side.
- 21:37And it was also great at the end where it's a kind of a gimmicky,
- 21:40but it was worth it where the coach, you know, we're killing
- 21:43these guys by 20 points at the moment.
- 21:46He throws in, There's a time out, he throws in Rachel and
- 21:51Maggie. And then even before the ball is
- 21:53put in, he then Subs them out. Yeah.
- 21:56So they each got the kind of the big the.
- 21:59Big scene with Jada Green and yeah, it was.
- 22:01Just, but it's also funny because like, that's like the
- 22:03Saturday senior night. And then looking ahead, we have
- 22:06another home game. We have the big home game of the
- 22:09year on Wednesday. Huge.
- 22:11Huge. Rhode Island doesn't get any
- 22:13bigger than this. This is, I mean, I can't say
- 22:15it's for at large, but like it, it is.
- 22:18It is the game of the year in the A10.
- 22:20Richmond, RI You know, battle for first place.
- 22:24Well. It's a share of first place.
- 22:25No it won't. Because we lost, remember, we
- 22:27lost two in a row, so they got two.
- 22:28Oh, yeah. Yeah.
- 22:29So they have. They have one loss, We have
- 22:31three. Yeah.
- 22:31So this game probably doesn't mean a whole lot for the
- 22:33standings. Maybe it helps George Mason.
- 22:35I don't know how that tiebreaker would work, but it's most
- 22:39important for our at large. Yeah.
- 22:41If we won't have any chance of at large, we have to have this
- 22:43Rhode Island win. And while we are hoping kind of
- 22:48our loss in the A10 tournament last year kind of is a chip on
- 22:50our shoulder and we can win the A10 tournament this year.
- 22:53If we went to the final and lost to Rhode Island, maybe like
- 22:57we'll still be around that 40 sort of net.
- 23:00So we're going to be on the bubble.
- 23:01We're. Still hanging around if we were
- 23:0242 this morning in the net, I think the LaSalle shouldn't move
- 23:06us in One Direction or the other too much.
- 23:08Oh, I mean, look, you get, you say around 40 when your last
- 23:11game after Rhode Island, you go in 25 and 6, you win your first
- 23:16two, that's 27 and six and you somehow get beaten by Rhode
- 23:20Island in the final. It would probably need to be
- 23:22Rhode Island in the final that beat you because but let's say
- 23:25that happens 27 and seven, you're 40 in the net after that
- 23:28happens. I'd still put us at about a 25
- 23:31to 40% chance of an at large. If you're sitting at 40 on 27
- 23:34and seven. I'm not saying it's above 50,
- 23:36but it will definitely be so much.
- 23:38There's enough of a probability that they'll probably have to
- 23:40have the party for the selection show.
- 23:42Yeah, yeah. I would bet that we end up in
- 23:44like the last four out bucket. Odds are you're still going to
- 23:47be a lot, but I mean, nobody's saying we have a chance.
- 23:49We're the only people right now saying we have a chance.
- 23:51And that's only because the 40 in the net.
- 23:53You're going to be compared against ACC schools that have
- 23:5710/11/12 losses. You'll have 7 losses.
- 24:00You know, that also will mean we have beaten Rhode Island this
- 24:03next game and Saint Joe's, both quality teams.
- 24:05And then you might get another quality win in that first or
- 24:08second round of the 810 tournament.
- 24:09So you know, you're going to get 3, maybe quad two wins along the
- 24:12way. So you're going to have like
- 24:13it's still possible. I'm going to say if if all of
- 24:16that plays out 35 to 40. Percent.
- 24:18You just don't. I mean, we've been there on the
- 24:20men's side, like you just don't want to be no worse feeling.
- 24:22You just want you don't want to be watching the other games and
- 24:24be like, Oh no. We want to win the 8.
- 24:26Ten. You don't want an upset in like
- 24:27a smaller conference tournament 100.
- 24:29Percent. Or in like, you know, the ACC,
- 24:32you get an upset and you're like, well, they just took one
- 24:34of our spots. I was, you know, so we, we
- 24:36played Rhode Island back in December.
- 24:40Season was a long time ago. We did.
- 24:42We lost to them at Rhode Island, 73 to 61.
- 24:47It's hard to remember, it's been so long.
- 24:48Maggie had a great Maggie hit 26.
- 24:50So it wasn't like this was, you know, a Maggie Dudd or anything
- 24:53like that. They beat us with a good version
- 24:55of Maggie just moved. The ball so well against us that
- 24:57game, they were motivated. They passed it extremely well.
- 25:00We weren't closing out on shooters.
- 25:01I was sitting there writing. I wrote notes about that game we
- 25:03covered in one of our episodes. I'm like, they just reminded of,
- 25:06reminded me of us. They're just really efficient.
- 25:08They they were up by they up first quarter.
- 25:10This is, you know a bad first start start for us.
- 25:12So we're down 18 to 13 in the 1st and we we've kind of seen
- 25:16some bad starts lately. We had gone on a run where we
- 25:19are just blowing people out in the first quarter, but we're
- 25:21back to kind of where we were earlier in the year having
- 25:24trouble starting. And then in the fourth, they
- 25:26beat us by 12. They outscored us by 10 in the
- 25:284th. So we were right there going
- 25:31into the 4th. We had a good third to cut it,
- 25:34but we just couldn't handle them in the fourth quarter.
- 25:37So we've got a it's a tough one. This isn't, this is a team
- 25:40that's beaten us. Not many teams have and what we
- 25:44got them at home on Wednesday, it's really the last home game.
- 25:47Yeah, make sure you come out for that one, folks.
- 25:49Come out to that game. Support these ladies.
- 25:51This is. It's 6:00.
- 25:52Special team got to be there for that one in person.
- 25:55And it's on ESPN Plus for you out of town or so definitely
- 25:59watch that. It's not our last game of the
- 26:01year. I think we have.
- 26:03Do we have one more after that? Game after that on the road I
- 26:05think. Who do we?
- 26:07Who do we play last? No, that's Rhode Island.
- 26:10That's Saint Joe's, I think. I don't think we've played Saint
- 26:12Joe's yet. They're a good team, so.
- 26:13Yeah, Saint Joe's. Yeah, we and at Saint Joe's.
- 26:15Which is another quad two games, so that's important.
- 26:17Yeah, they're 19 and eight. Yeah.
- 26:19The men have Chicago, Loyola Chicago, which was, you know,
- 26:24the big NCA darling a few years ago and then moved to our
- 26:29conference. And this was supposed to be like
- 26:31their first really good year. They spent a bunch of money on
- 26:35the portal, supposedly. Hasn't.
- 26:38Hasn't been. Good.
- 26:38Yeah, so. We've talked about them in a lot
- 26:40earlier. Too, They've been a disaster.
- 26:43Now the good thing and they haven't really.
- 26:44I've been wrong with them because I thought they'd come
- 26:47into the league and have a terrible year but upset a bunch
- 26:50of good teams and just, you know, tear apart our resumes.
- 26:53They've just been bad all around.
- 26:55They haven't. I don't, I don't.
- 26:55They've got some wins. Would they have two?
- 26:58But you know they they have 3. Yeah, they've won a few, but not
- 27:04many, no. But anyway, we will see.
- 27:09I'm not counting on that game being an exciting one.
- 27:12Hopefully we take care of business.
- 27:15We will see if that's possible. I mean, we know when we're not
- 27:20good, we can lose to anybody. And when we are good like we're,
- 27:25we're, we can, we can beat anybody in this leagues.
- 27:28This is a road trip to Chicago as well.
- 27:30So we've got to do some travelling.
- 27:32The weather is always kind of making that harder than it
- 27:35should be right now. But anyway, so we got Chicago
- 27:39midweek on the road. We've got the women at home
- 27:42against Rhode Island. The last time to see Maggie
- 27:44Dugan in the Robin Center. Same for Rachel and some of our
- 27:48other seniors. So please come out.
- 27:50Hopefully we see you on Wednesday, 6 O clock the Robin
- 27:53Center. Let's get a big crowd to wrap up
- 27:56the season in a positive note and then we'll be at the Henrico
- 27:59Tournament. We got official media passes.
- 28:02We are official. So we'll be at that tournament
- 28:07up in Henrico, not in our Henrico studios.
- 28:10We'll be at the Henrico tournament.
- 28:11Big weekend. Do they steal that name from us,
- 28:13you think? I don't think.
- 28:14So I don't. I don't think so.
- 28:16OK. Well, so that'll be fun.
- 28:17So hopefully we see you at the women's game next week and then
- 28:21see you at the Henrico Center, I guess a week and 1/2 after that.
- 28:26Absolutely folks. Again, great.
- 28:27Great game for the ladies, great game for the men this weekend. 2
- 28:30and O over the weekend. Great way to finish and we will
- 28:33see you guys. It'll be interesting to see if
- 28:35we had any A10 players of the week.
- 28:36Is 1 game enough for a freshman of the week performance?
- 28:39We will find out tomorrow. We will see.
- 28:40Today when this releases. Yeah, but until next time, this
- 28:43is Tom. Hey, this is Porter, and this is
- 28:45Spider's A little happier this time.
- 28:47Sounding off. See you, man.
- 28:47Spider. Sound off Spider.
- 28:48Sound off spider sound off spider sound.
- 28:55Off.
