- 0:00Welcome to Raising the Curve, a podcast designed to teach you everything you need to know
- 0:05to be better with your money.
- 0:07And the wise words of Amy Schumer were slipping carrots into the brownie recipe.
- 0:11I don't really get the saying.
- 0:14It's kind of like eating vegetables that actually taste good.
- 0:17You know, I'm like, still not ready to say it.
- 0:19Are you on the script?
- 0:20It's basically like saying, investing in finance can be boring, but it totally doesn't
- 0:26need to be here.
- 0:27OK, OK, so we're making it fun by putting the carrot.
- 0:31OK, the vegetables are just good for you.
- 0:33It's the brownie recipe.
- 0:35OK, we got there, we got there, OK.
- 0:36OK, well, you've really got to finance me.
- 0:39Yeah, one of us has to.
- 0:40This is a joke.
- 0:41OK, come and learn alongside me from Vick Harris, ex-fun manager.
- 0:45Well, I'm going to ask all the questions that you wish you could.
- 0:48And I'm going to be eating all the brownie you wish you could.
- 0:51It's so not the joke, Vick.
- 0:53Oh, OK, just come and talk and learn and laugh with us
- 0:56because together we really can raise the curve.
- 1:01So we recorded this podcast a few minutes ago now, so I've didn't we?
- 1:05We were back in line.
- 1:06I know, it feels like ages.
- 1:07Yeah, we're now in New Zealand.
- 1:09We're in very little because it's so hot.
- 1:11Yeah, I've smelly constantly.
- 1:14Sorry, I should stop saying that's really gross, isn't it?
- 1:16But I just kind of think goodness podcast is audio and not in real life.
- 1:22You know, that feeling when you put fake tan on, just after you put fake tan on
- 1:25your skin, let you touch it.
- 1:27And it's like sticky.
- 1:28That's how it feels like yesterday I stood up off a chair
- 1:31and my ass stuck to the chair and then like sort of peeled off.
- 1:35I was like, oh, I love that.
- 1:37Not nice.
- 1:39But yes, we interviewed the beautiful Cartier Milan back in London a few
- 1:45months ago when it was probably there's summer.
- 1:48Not the depths of winter that there are now.
- 1:50And it was a really, really incredible conversation.
- 1:53And gosh, she was such a great energy.
- 1:56I love talking to her.
- 1:57She's been like an online personality for a really long time.
- 2:01She's got 508,000 follows on Instagram.
- 2:04I don't even know how many on YouTube, but a lot.
- 2:07She's been building this up as her business for a really long time.
- 2:10And we wanted to speak to someone who identified as an influencer or a content creator
- 2:14and were open to speaking about rights and how they negotiate things with clients
- 2:19and what that's like as a freelancer in the space of content creation.
- 2:24It's really interesting because only really in the last couple of years
- 2:27has this become a proper career choice that people are now interested in doing
- 2:31because you can make a lot of money and she's been incredibly successful.
- 2:35So it was a really interesting chair and we spoke a lot.
- 2:38She hasn't know a whole lot about investing and I love the bit towards the end
- 2:41where she started asking you questions of it.
- 2:43And she was like, okay, so say I this, this, this, this.
- 2:45Because I was like, life, that was.
- 2:48Yeah, I thought that was cool.
- 2:50I was like, no, we're interviewing you.
- 2:54No, it was, no, it was really good to see that she was interested in investing
- 2:58and invested a little bit in herself.
- 2:59And I loved how she keeps saying, say, I was like, I was like, quite fun.
- 3:04We've got to keep up with the young kids, you know, like they all say slay.
- 3:08And also one thing to note as well is that the audio like classic.
- 3:12So if Victoria set up, there was a couple of times where our microphone kind of
- 3:16bleed into each other's.
- 3:18So there's a few bits of like random echo, but stick with it.
- 3:21I listened to the whole thing just before and it's actually totally fine.
- 3:24But if you're like, this isn't the curve normal tip top perfection audio,
- 3:29then I'm sorry about that.
- 3:31Yeah.
- 3:32But enjoy the episodes.
- 3:33And this is also just fact, just so you know, the South 100th episode.
- 3:36Wow.
- 3:37Wow.
- 3:38100th episode of raising the curse.
- 3:40Like that.
- 3:42Yeah.
- 3:44Gosh, if you told me that when we did our first one, I would have been like laughing.
- 3:48I know.
- 3:49Oh my gosh.
- 3:50Can we have a celebration when we each have 1,000 episodes?
- 3:52That would be old and great.
- 3:53That's like so far away.
- 3:55I'm already old and grey.
- 3:57How long have we done 100 and what three years?
- 3:59So that means if we did that time is 10, 10 to 30 years away.
- 4:04So it's retirement.
- 4:05We'll be in our 20 year holiday.
- 4:06Yeah.
- 4:07God, the conversations would be quite good.
- 4:09But when we need to be to spend $75 a week now, it's got to, yeah.
- 4:17OK, a nice from us.
- 4:18A nice from us, a nice from us.
- 4:19A nice from us, a nice from us.
- 4:20Over to Cartier.
- 4:23So we have a guest in studio who feels kind of like home, right?
- 4:26She's Australian.
- 4:27Yeah.
- 4:28Close to New Zealand.
- 4:29Yeah.
- 4:31Cartier Milan, now you have been someone that I followed for a long time.
- 4:34In terms of just like, you have such amazing, honest, vulnerable content.
- 4:39So for anyone who doesn't know Cartier, she has a massive YouTube.
- 4:42That's kind of your main channel, right?
- 4:44Yeah.
- 4:45YouTube and Instagram, I mean, on the thousands of online platforms
- 4:49that we have these days.
- 4:50That's really overwhelming.
- 4:51It is.
- 4:52New day, new platform.
- 4:53Oh, gosh.
- 4:54We want to skip you on because, I mean, our podcast, as you know,
- 4:57we're talking about money and we're trying to create more open, candid conversations
- 5:02about all things, finance, investing, how people make money, how much they make,
- 5:06you know, which can be really uncomfortable, we get it.
- 5:10But I know with a lot of your content over the years and things that you've shared on
- 5:14the various platforms about, I mean, to health, about friendship, about love, relationship,
- 5:19sex, like you're very much about trying to be as candid on the internet as you can be.
- 5:23And I think that it's really hard to do that well.
- 5:27I think a lot of people are really trying to step into that space, but not doing it authentically,
- 5:33whereas you've kind of been the OG of doing that since, you know, at the start of the
- 5:36beginning of time.
- 5:37I've been crying on Snapchat.
- 5:38I'm really in all started when I would just cry on my Snapchat and it would just like,
- 5:42I didn't really question it.
- 5:43I just was like, this is what I do.
- 5:45How would you describe yourself, like what would you're living walking by O.B.?
- 5:50I guess, you know, first and foremost, like you would say I'm an influencer, I think that's
- 5:54what everyone just calls it now and use content creator, whatever, but I started my backgrounds
- 5:59actually in acting.
- 6:00I grew up acting and doing all of theatre school and all that and that's why I thought
- 6:03I would do it and then I ended up transitioning into this.
- 6:06It just happened naturally when I was younger because I posted a video on YouTube and it
- 6:11went viral when it was like back in the makeup days.
- 6:14Anyways, so then I just gained a following from that and now I guess I do, yeah, social
- 6:19media on mainly Instagram, YouTube and TikTok and stuff.
- 6:23And then I also have a podcast with my best friend Ashton, which looks about mental health.
- 6:28Okay, so online is your job and your life and your documenting it all the time.
- 6:34From a financial perspective, what was that journey like for you in terms of going from
- 6:40doing something organically to becoming a job that is funding your lifestyle?
- 6:44It was really funny because I started when I was 17 and as I said, it happened really
- 6:49organically and influencing because I was not a thing yet.
- 6:53Like it wasn't how everyone now was like, I want to be an influencer, like back then
- 6:56I was literally at the start of when it was happening.
- 6:59So it was kind of like this weird thing where you kind of got given stuff and then slowly
- 7:05it was like, oh, I'm going to charge for this now, like I'm going to start getting money
- 7:09for this.
- 7:10So I'd get offered things or shoots or and so I was really young.
- 7:14So these brands would be offering me money and I was like, I don't know, like what the
- 7:18fuck?
- 7:19Quite fun.
- 7:20It's such a young age.
- 7:21Yeah.
- 7:22Oh my god.
- 7:23Cool.
- 7:24Yeah.
- 7:25It was a hundred dollars an hour.
- 7:27It was really cool and just weird and so I obviously went to my mum.
- 7:30My mum used to work in banking and she was actually in a accountant and a bookkeeper.
- 7:34So I'll fill in a J from your mum.
- 7:35She tries to teach me and it just goes, I think I have like number dyslexia, like it just
- 7:40doesn't clock in my brain.
- 7:42So I talk, you know, I said to my mum, like can you help me with this?
- 7:44So slowly my mum ended up becoming my manager.
- 7:47It was giving Cristina, like I had a mum a jar and we honestly just learnt about it as
- 7:51we went.
- 7:52On reflection, do you think you like did it right or in terms of, do you think that
- 7:55you could have got more or that you kind of wish that you had more?
- 7:59Yeah.
- 8:00Yeah.
- 8:01Like what learning city had?
- 8:02Yeah.
- 8:03I think we slayed.
- 8:04Like I say to my mum like, honestly, I think we slayed it.
- 8:06Yeah.
- 8:07I think we really slayed.
- 8:08Like I always say to my mum, like maybe she just managed me again because we honestly
- 8:11killed the aunt.
- 8:12My mum is like the best woman in the world.
- 8:13She becomes friends with every client.
- 8:16She still speaks to clients that I had shoots with years ago.
- 8:19She's getting happy birthday messages.
- 8:20They're checking with each other every week.
- 8:22I'm like, you are.
- 8:23But that's what you need though.
- 8:25Yeah.
- 8:26That's what you need to know.
- 8:27People I think in the industry just don't get it that it's like, yes, you're on the screen
- 8:33and stuff, but you need to be making friends with people in your industry.
- 8:37Yes, the PR girls or the brands, the clients, like you can't just be like, oh, give me money
- 8:41and I'll post this.
- 8:42Like you can't, but you're not going to get very far with it.
- 8:45You need to just still be a human and be humble and be like approachable.
- 8:48And I think that's why I think my mum and I worked really well together.
- 8:51And you just open communication like, hey, this is the rate we have.
- 8:54This is what we can work with.
- 8:55Like I think people get quite awkward with the money talk, especially if you're managing
- 8:59yourself.
- 9:00I know it can be awkward, but my mum often would just pick up the phone and call the brand
- 9:04if there was issues.
- 9:05No, like not that back and forth awkward emailing.
- 9:07So did you give her a cash?
- 9:09Like how did that work?
- 9:10Yeah, she never took anything from me, bless her.
- 9:12But I would like always buy her little presents and I'd fly her around places and we'd do
- 9:15dinner.
- 9:16Like I try and make up for it.
- 9:17But now she does all my accounting.
- 9:18She gets paid.
- 9:19So, you know, I think because I was younger, she, like bless her.
- 9:23She was like, you're just young.
- 9:24I'm not going to take money from you.
- 9:25But no, so she never took a cut, bless her.
- 9:28But I, I worked with her for a few years and then I signed with IMG at quite a young age.
- 9:32And I think there was lots that I learned in that was like signing with a big company.
- 9:38I was young, like, you know, they knew what they were getting out of me.
- 9:42Oh, 100% with them there as well.
- 9:44Yeah.
- 9:45No, you do.
- 9:46You need that learning.
- 9:47And I mean, it's, it's so tricky.
- 9:48I always say I should honestly write a ebook about influencing and what to do, what not
- 9:53to do, what to look out for, especially when you sign with an agency or even just in contracts,
- 9:57they try and get you on everything like it's sneaky business.
- 10:02So that's my biggest learning is just re, like my mum always says, like contracts, you
- 10:07got to read them, reread them and read them again and again and get someone else to read
- 10:11them.
- 10:12And another big learning is with agencies or anyone like they're working for you.
- 10:16You got to, you've got to speak up and it can be really scary and confronting to speak
- 10:20up sometimes, but communication with clients or with brands and with special management
- 10:25is so important and just being like very vocal, very direct and like just sorting out
- 10:30anything.
- 10:31Yeah.
- 10:32Did you ever feel like when you're having those negotiations, particularly on the money
- 10:35side of things, like uncomfortable and like, I guess some tips or tricks or was it like
- 10:40good having your mum there?
- 10:41Yeah.
- 10:42I guess any kind of tips you have for aspiring whether they be influencers or content creators
- 10:47for things to think about when it comes to contracts and money.
- 10:50Obviously having a middle person is really good for the money side of things because it
- 10:53can just feel really uncomfortable and awkward.
- 10:55It shouldn't because it's like it's, it's just your rate.
- 10:58It's like any job.
- 10:59This is your rates, but I understand it can be.
- 11:01So it definitely helped at the start having my mum.
- 11:04I think a tip is don't be afraid to quote what you think you're worth in that.
- 11:07Or if you know that's what rate you deserve, then I would absolutely always quote pop
- 11:12rate and then let the brand bring you down and you can see if you're happy to fit with
- 11:15that.
- 11:16But you know what you deserve in there.
- 11:17And I think if you stand your ground with how much you know you deserve, they always
- 11:21come back around eventually or if you're happy to move it down, you can do that.
- 11:25But if you're really uncomfortable, write an email, pretend that it's from someone else.
- 11:29I don't know.
- 11:30I know friends that do that.
- 11:31Or if you have a manager, obviously you get them to negotiate rates, but it's kind of
- 11:36like if they want you, they'll find the money or the resource or something from somewhere.
- 11:41And I remember my sister might say to me, she's like, you would rather they go damn,
- 11:45we can't afford her then.
- 11:46Yeah.
- 11:47And so true, I've turned down so many jobs that I've wanted to do before or that it's
- 11:54brands that I've liked.
- 11:55But it's like, this is actually a bit embarrassing that you think I'm worth that little.
- 11:58So from the start, I've always just said, this is my rate.
- 12:03And there's been a few jobs that I'll come down if it's a long term contract, but I'm
- 12:07notorious for being like, I know what I'm worth in the industry and you have to know
- 12:11your worth in the industry.
- 12:12It's so saturated.
- 12:13It's just being honest, like I want to be a premium talent.
- 12:17I'm not accessible to every brand and it's like, if you really want me, then you'll
- 12:20know my worth in this and I'll also work really fucking hard for you, but you have to
- 12:25know your worth.
- 12:26It's almost like stems into all areas of life too.
- 12:29Exactly.
- 12:30It's relationships.
- 12:31It's friendships.
- 12:32It's everything.
- 12:33And I think as soon as you set the bar down here, it's saying like, I think I'm okay
- 12:36with that.
- 12:37Absolutely.
- 12:38It bleeds into every aspect because that's how I feel about exactly what you said.
- 12:42My relationships, my friendships, everything, it's, I know my worth and this is how much
- 12:45and it shouldn't money.
- 12:47It's like money can be so awkward for people and like, I know so many people and even at
- 12:52me at the start, I was like, oh, this is scary, like sending this number of money and
- 12:56I'm like, yeah, and you'll honestly be so shocked at how much comes back when you believe
- 13:02your worth that much.
- 13:03You're like, yes, I know how hard I'm working for this brand.
- 13:05Yes, I know what I can deliver.
- 13:07Obviously, it's different if you're quoting stupid amounts of money and you're providing
- 13:11not great content, you're not being kind to the client, you're not being responsive,
- 13:16get to round as well.
- 13:17You're reputation in the industry is absolutely everything and I'm someone that also like
- 13:22whatever my deliverables are, I would normally post more than that in terms of if it's like
- 13:26a brand trip or it's something like, you want to deliver, I always try and over-deliver
- 13:32than under-deliver.
- 13:33Then they come back again.
- 13:34Yes.
- 13:35All they'll do is extend the partnership.
- 13:37How many income revenue strings do you have?
- 13:40Is it majority from the different platforms or do you have like affiliate partnerships
- 13:46like in terms of building art car team alone as a business?
- 13:50Where is that at now and is there a kind of a vision for how you'd like that to evolve?
- 13:54Yeah, I feel like I have been just being a little kid for the past since I started and
- 14:00I've not been very smart with where I put my money.
- 14:03It's funny because all of my family is very business savvy like my dad's side, they're
- 14:08all in like business and construction and all this, my brother is like a mathematical
- 14:13nerd and investment nerd.
- 14:15My mother is an investment nerd and I'm just here like, all my money is sitting in my
- 14:20bank account, rotting.
- 14:21Excuse me?
- 14:22Oh my God.
- 14:23Yeah, no, no.
- 14:24I need to speak to you.
- 14:25And my mom has helped me invest, I've invested some money in some stocks.
- 14:29No.
- 14:30Don't know where that's at.
- 14:31So that's interesting.
- 14:32Do you know what you've invested in?
- 14:33To pay.
- 14:34Oh, you're cool.
- 14:35Yeah.
- 14:36Like, she's laid me with that because I don't know what it is now and I don't understand
- 14:39stocks.
- 14:40I'll probably never really get into that because I don't know.
- 14:42I would love to get into property like that somewhere I think I could thrive as property
- 14:47investment.
- 14:48And so when I go home to Oz, I'm going to buy myself my first place.
- 14:51Is that because you like the design and the interior and you feel like you can.
- 14:54It's a visual.
- 14:55It's a tangible kind of visual and it's visual and I just get it for some reason.
- 15:01I kind of think I could, that's the thing that frustrates me about investing in stocks.
- 15:04Hold on.
- 15:05We've got a guest.
- 15:06Don't get too angry.
- 15:07No.
- 15:08You know, it's just, it's all numbers on a screen.
- 15:09It's like, if they made it more interesting and fun, you get way more tired of the people.
- 15:13Yeah.
- 15:14And I wish I got it because it seems amazing to get.
- 15:18But I just, yeah, I don't.
- 15:19But my affiliate stuff is something I'm going to look into like I've just signed with
- 15:23a new management and they're like, you should get on this little affiliate thing because
- 15:27it's definitely an easy way to make extra money.
- 15:31Do you mean that like when you've seen someone to a product and stuff because I think
- 15:36people, yeah, make quite a bit of that.
- 15:38Most of my money comes from just my brand sponsorships and yeah, my podcasts and stuff.
- 15:44But all of our money from our podcast goes straight back into the business.
- 15:48Like we're not paying from that, paying ourselves from that or anything, but I'm definitely
- 15:53going to look into, I've had ideas for different brands.
- 15:55I've wanted to do for years and I have multiple ideas.
- 15:59It's more just finding the time and like commitment to when I'm ready to do that.
- 16:03And I have like 15 million things in my brain.
- 16:06I want to do it once.
- 16:07So it's I end up getting scrambled, but exactly the same.
- 16:09Yeah.
- 16:10Yeah.
- 16:11I want to sit and speak to my brother because he's someone that is kind of like, what the
- 16:15fuck are you doing?
- 16:16But you're in.
- 16:17You've got your savings and the bank basically at the moment or a lot of it.
- 16:20Yeah.
- 16:21Yeah.
- 16:22It's all just sitting there.
- 16:23You're like, I feel like maybe you can.
- 16:28How long do we have?
- 16:29Yeah.
- 16:30Live it in all seriousness.
- 16:31There will be people listening who maybe this is the first episode they've listened to.
- 16:34So or people who follow part year and have no way about anything to do with money.
- 16:38It might be kind of worth just doing a quick little why it's not great to have your money
- 16:41in the bank.
- 16:42Yeah.
- 16:43So it's not great to have your money in the bank.
- 16:44No, I literally feel like talking about it already.
- 16:47No, no.
- 16:48If you didn't know, you did not honestly.
- 16:51It's because inflation is running, like probably seven, eight percent store in the UK.
- 16:57And so your money a year ago, you can now purchase less with it because inflation is
- 17:03eating away at it.
- 17:04And is it kind of the percentage of inflation?
- 17:06So like what you can buy now is eight percent more expensive than last year.
- 17:09So technically, if you've got like what?
- 17:11For the dollar values the same, but what you can purchase with that has been a lot less.
- 17:15So it's like you need to make sure that your money in the bank is growing as much as
- 17:20inflation or more.
- 17:21So we're in a really.
- 17:22Otherwise you're losing.
- 17:23Yeah.
- 17:24Yeah.
- 17:25Yeah.
- 17:26So we're in a tricky time because inflation is so high.
- 17:27But even when inflation is like two to three percent, you need to, you're still losing money
- 17:31back in the bank.
- 17:32Unless it's growing by greater than that.
- 17:34So that's kind of why you're going to be going backwards unless you, she's like, I know,
- 17:40I know.
- 17:41I'm just like, you're still now.
- 17:42Don't get me wrong.
- 17:43No.
- 17:44I need this.
- 17:45Yeah.
- 17:46I need this.
- 17:47So what's the best thing that I should be putting it into?
- 17:48Well, it depends what your goals are, but if you want to buy property, do you think that
- 17:52is more stupid?
- 17:53I think property is great investment.
- 17:54Yeah.
- 17:55It's figuring out what is right for you.
- 17:57Don't invest in stocks if you don't care for them or you don't understand them.
- 18:01I do.
- 18:02There's no point because you won't be interested and you'll lose motivation.
- 18:05Yeah.
- 18:06If property is something you want to own because you want to buy it, do it up even
- 18:09at whatever.
- 18:10That's a great investment.
- 18:11So it's just like figuring out what's right for you and doesn't just because everyone
- 18:14else is doing stocks.
- 18:15Yeah.
- 18:16I think it's my job just has for years gone just property.
- 18:18Like even when I was 18, I moved to Byron Bay and I said to my mum, you need to buy something
- 18:23here.
- 18:24Like if I had the money right now, I'd buy something here and she looked into it for
- 18:26a bit.
- 18:27Look what's happened now to Byron Bay.
- 18:28Yeah.
- 18:29If I bought that house two years ago, like 800K out in Bangalore, which now costs 1.71.8,
- 18:362.1, whatever.
- 18:37It's crazy how much it's gone up and I always say to my mum, you should have listened
- 18:43to me.
- 18:44And now I'm going to go home and definitely invest in...
- 18:46But there will be another Byron Bay.
- 18:47Do you know what I mean?
- 18:48I mean, it's harsh.
- 18:49It's for sure.
- 18:50Yeah.
- 18:51But it's for the Byron Bay.
- 18:52But I also think Australians in New Zealand just have like some weird fascination with
- 18:57owning property.
- 18:58It's kind of, I think, the sense of home or like, because we have this space and you
- 19:02know, we've grown up with our parents owning properties in it.
- 19:07We want our own.
- 19:08It's kind of the sense of like success as well and I don't know, it's part of me staying
- 19:12all of that stuff.
- 19:13It's not like investing in like stuff like watches.
- 19:15I know all the bros do that.
- 19:16Yeah.
- 19:17That's what I said to my mum.
- 19:18I was like, because I was saying, my money is sitting in this account and what are we
- 19:21doing?
- 19:22And she's like, well, you said you wanted to buy a house.
- 19:23So I'm not trying to encourage you to put it into stocks.
- 19:24If you want to buy a house, I was like, I'm going to buy a watch.
- 19:26And she was like, what?
- 19:27And I was like, well, all the bros are doing it.
- 19:29And they're all buying these crazy watches and then all my friends like, well, good luck
- 19:32getting one.
- 19:33You have to go on a waiting list.
- 19:34And I was like, OK, well, I'll figure it out, but they do go up a lot.
- 19:37Yeah, yeah.
- 19:39Yeah.
- 19:40Yeah.
- 19:41Yeah.
- 19:42Yeah.
- 19:43Yeah.
- 19:44Yeah.
- 19:45Yeah.
- 19:46Yeah.
- 19:47Yeah.
- 19:48Yeah.
- 19:49Yeah.
- 19:50Yeah.
- 19:51Yeah.
- 19:52Yeah.
- 19:53Yeah.
- 19:54Yeah.
- 19:55Yeah.
- 19:56Yeah.
- 19:57Yeah.
- 19:58Yeah.
- 19:59Yeah.
- 20:00Yeah.
- 20:01Yeah.
- 20:02Yeah.
- 20:03Yeah.
- 20:04Yeah.
- 20:05Yeah.
- 20:06Yeah.
- 20:07Yeah.
- 20:08Yeah.
- 20:09Yeah.
- 20:10Yeah.
- 20:11Yeah.
- 20:12And boosting is anything is going to go up and value.
- 20:13Yeah.
- 20:14So if it's vintage cars, if it's art, like jewelry, jewelry, yeah, my brother does art as well
- 20:16and stuff.
- 20:17Yeah.
- 20:18I feel like I want to get into, I feel like I've just hit that age now where I'm like,
- 20:21OK, you've been going down this one path for a long time.
- 20:25It's time to wise up, smart enough a little bit.
- 20:27So you're not just relying on this one income stream because it's not going to be forever,
- 20:31my desires for what I want for myself is changing every day with with the whole
- 20:36well, like it's not new and fun to me anymore. I've been in it for so long. And I just see it
- 20:42becoming ridiculously saturated. Then I'm like, okay, we're going to, we need to wise up.
- 20:47That's really good, though, that you know, to have multiple income streams, because that's also
- 20:52within besting. It's like, okay, well, maybe you've got the money, maybe you're doing this
- 20:55someone watches and someone property because the property market could blow up one day, but you'll
- 21:00be like, hey, you know what? I've got my watch, but it's like so true. It's like the more that
- 21:06you can diversify your income, your investments, anything is like, you're going to be like way more
- 21:12at ease. And also think, you know how you've got this like tiny little part of your brain that's
- 21:17my God, me tell you, like, as if you've got a tiny brain. What I mean is there's like a little
- 21:20voice in the back of your head where you're like, I kind of know I shouldn't have my savings in the bank,
- 21:25but I also kind of don't feel super confident knowing what to do with it. I think what I've really
- 21:29found in the last couple of years, the more that I've learned about investing and the different
- 21:34assets might not just be stocks, is when you have used that money in a clever way and you've
- 21:39invested in something that you know, you're like, yeah, that was good for me. Yeah. You have this
- 21:44confidence and like, I've got myself more than just having money in a bank account, whereas I used
- 21:49to think I'd just look at my savings and be like, oh, there's 15 grand, I feel good about that. Whereas
- 21:54now, like, for example, I was looking at my Shareses, which is an online where you can invest in stocks,
- 22:01sorry to manslaughter. And I put in, I think it was 16,000, you know, that went up to 21,000
- 22:08just in the last year. So I made nearly $6,000 on my stocks. And like, that to me, I'm just like,
- 22:15I'm like, so proud of myself. Totally powered financially. As you slowly take the steps and
- 22:20it's just like, it's definitely not getting the confidence. And I've, my mistake is that I haven't
- 22:25asked enough people. And I feel like the more people you do ask for you, like, in it's amazing
- 22:29that you guys have a podcast about it, which I need to listen to every week. Because it does help
- 22:34when it's a bit more simplified in like a normal human terms. And it's just, I'm lazy like that.
- 22:39If something's too overwhelming for my brain, I'm like, I'll just deal with that later, later, later.
- 22:43Now I'm to turn 25. I'm like, later's now. Let's get ahead so that you can fund your life. You don't
- 22:49need no man's to, you know, have you saw it at it? You got this yourself. So yeah, speak
- 22:55of men. And also just generally, I mean, dating in the public eye, you know, do you know what it is
- 23:02so weird? This is really embarrassing to admit. When I was on my way here, I was like, I wonder if
- 23:06your net worth is visible, you know, I was just thinking like, when you are a public figure,
- 23:10like any actors, you can Google. But dating someone who is a public figure, whether they're a footballer
- 23:15actor or whatever, where you can also do the same thing with that. Like, you can Google your
- 23:20partners net worth, which you can't do when you're just dating like someone. How does that dynamic
- 23:27financially play out for you? Like, is that something you've experienced in relationship,
- 23:31where like there's not been a balance, but I just love to hear your experience with money
- 23:35in relationship. Yeah, I've had one relationship where my partner knew I was making more than him.
- 23:42We were similar in the same industry. And it definitely caused a bit of like friction in terms of
- 23:48like, I guess maybe he didn't feel as masculine and, you know, it became a little bit competitive in
- 23:55that, which I never have had an issue with. I was like, for me, it's like as long as my partner is
- 24:00working and he's equally as passionate as I am as what I'm doing and like driven and motivated.
- 24:04He's not just sitting on a couch, smoking weed, you know, I'm paying for everything. Then it's fine.
- 24:09But even in terms of, yeah, then another partner I've had is was making a shit ton of money.
- 24:15And I'm like, I'm like, slay. That's so good for you. But for me, I'm not a very like,
- 24:19I've never been a very money oriented person. Now, as you can tell, I've never really focused on
- 24:24it very much. Like, I'm very like passion based. So it doesn't matter to me. And that doesn't
- 24:29also like define why I'm with that person. But I don't see it as an imbalance. Like for me, I'm just
- 24:37like, oh, that's like great for you. If anything, it motivates me. Like my last relation,
- 24:41it was motivating to me. I'm like, wow, you're making like a real lot of money. And I'm looking
- 24:45how you're living. And I'm like, whoa, I want this. I want this for myself. Well, like this is
- 24:49possible. Like, and yeah, it's just motivating, I think. Did you, when you would go on dates and
- 24:54stuff, would it be let's split this? Like, how does it work in your situation? Yeah. For
- 25:00example, the most recent one where they're obviously killing it financially. And you're doing
- 25:05super well too. Yeah. How did that play out for you? I think a lot of the time as well.
- 25:09Also, I feel like British men are much more like chivalrous than Australian men.
- 25:16Australian men, it's just splitting the bill with me kind of vibe. I feel like British guys are
- 25:21much more like they kind of know that like they're taking the woman out. And I also feel like my,
- 25:28yeah, my ex is very generous. And like he would often pay for dinners. But I would always make
- 25:32sure like everyone's in a while. Like I was getting things here and there or like doing
- 25:36paying for the dinners. Like if we went out with friends, us girls would pay the bill because he
- 25:40would often like do that and stuff. And because I would never want it to feel like I was just there
- 25:46like to get all that from him kind of thing. And yeah, I don't know. And that was new to me as well
- 25:51when I started dating him accepting that he was like just like paying the paying the dinner bills
- 25:56all the time. And I was like, wow, this is like really crazy. It's actually also so nice.
- 26:00Like I hate this. Like I get this rule. Like I find it uncomfortable because I'm like I don't
- 26:04want you to pay. But I also. So nice. Yeah. Yeah. I think for me there's a very fine line.
- 26:10And like sometimes it's like, no, no, I'm going to pay. This is 50, 50. This is like,
- 26:14yeah. And then other times I'm like, what do you mean you're not paying?
- 26:16Yeah, it's like honestly like poor guy dating me. Yeah. I just followed his lead on it.
- 26:24And like would always make sure I was doing little things here and there and cute little things.
- 26:28And like doing things within my means that could show him that I was also like contributing.
- 26:32And if he was ever like, can you get this? I bet. Yeah. Of course, even if it was like a
- 26:35however much money was found that I'd never say no and make him pay. Like I'd grown up being like,
- 26:41no, I'll always pay. I'll pay. Like I'll get it even when it's kind of like a situation where I
- 26:45probably could have sat back. But yeah, it's just it's such a funny. I just learned to surrender.
- 26:50I was like, I'll accept this. Yeah. I also think there's something really interesting in what you
- 26:55said about within my means because also if you're someone who has super expensive taste and they
- 27:00earn heaps of money and you actually can't afford to go and pay for a £400 dinner and he wants to
- 27:07go there or she wants to go there. It's a funny one because you do want to contribute but also
- 27:13you wouldn't be choosing that restaurant because it's not necessarily within your means.
- 27:16So I would like even say to him if we were going on say like a double day or I remember one night
- 27:22we were going to go on this double day at like one of our favorite restaurants and we would always
- 27:25order this steak at this places like this wagoo and it was like a £350 wagoo and which is ridiculous
- 27:32that I guess to him. It's like whatever and I said do not. Whatever you do, do not order the wagoo
- 27:37because you know Ashton's guy that she's bringing will want to split the bill with you. Like
- 27:42obviously us girls it's you guys are going to pay like he please don't do that to him and he's like
- 27:47yeah no we won't. So it's like you just have you have mindfulness around people.
- 27:51Oh my gosh. A 30-pound wagoo. I kind of want to do it. It's really good.
- 27:55It's not like it's round no cow like it was a famous cow. It's like it's all from New Zealand
- 28:04properly. I would honestly pay with my own money. I would not care. I would do it. I would
- 28:10absolutely pay for it. It was so fucking good. Oh really. That was superly good. I don't know why
- 28:15they've done to it but it was delicious. I dream about it. What have you done in relationships
- 28:21like how you've had that model of growing up and comparatively to what you would want a long
- 28:25term relationship to look like? With financial compatibility is that something that you think
- 28:29is important to or have you? As I said all that matters to me is that my partner makes money.
- 28:35His own money and I want to have my own money as well. I would never want to be in a relationship
- 28:41where I am dependent upon anyone for money or stability or anything like that. It's obviously so
- 28:47nice. Yeah. It's round before. You just can't. You can't. You don't know what's going to happen.
- 28:54I'm like so driven. I want to make something for myself on my own and then how amazing if he's
- 29:00slaying and he can provide extra and then if then you have you're like not only feeling stable
- 29:06within yourself. You're like oh if I ever needed help like he could help me out and you know then
- 29:11you can eventually pay it back or if then you get married together you can form that together. I
- 29:15just think it's really important for me personally that I'm with someone that's driven and is
- 29:19financially stable because I'm financially stable. I need someone that can match my lifestyle,
- 29:24match my life and my goals moving forward. I love that. I think you really put that in such a
- 29:29great way. I'm so like do you think that you would be in a mindset where if you were to get
- 29:36married to somebody that you would combine finances at some point or do you think that keeping
- 29:41that separation makes you I don't know. I would always have my own money I think and like
- 29:48when I say this I'm such a little sucker for love like if I was with someone I'm just like
- 29:52yes let's combine a whole. Let's combine it and like he's like way richer than me of course
- 29:59I'm going to be like yes let's combine. But I think you always should have your own money absolutely
- 30:05like you never know what can happen you never know who someone can turn out to be or if they're
- 30:09going to do your dirty like as much as I want to believe in love and trust and all that you just
- 30:13you never know so I think having your at least some maybe if you like have kids you get married
- 30:18and you want to like put some money together. Kids I think it's complicated. It gets complicated
- 30:23for sure I think then there's a that's a separate conversation to have like a separate
- 30:28account or fund or whatever but you should always I think each party should have their own money.
- 30:34We always talk about that even just a small amount whatever it is $1,000 $5,000 whatever you
- 30:39command anything like just something that if shit hits the fan. It's like your escape fund or
- 30:43you've got a little parcel there that you know you're going to be okay with it and if
- 30:47partner's not okay with you having that then that's a whole another conversation.
- 30:56I'm wondering if you have any questions for Vic like around with money because like this is a
- 31:01no because I think you know it's really literally so fucking many. I think it's been so nice
- 31:08for me to be able as you were saying like your mum's really financially literate and your whole
- 31:13family are quite into it but I think having friends that you can talk to about this stuff is a
- 31:18different situation I mean we spoke at Oxford a couple of weeks ago and the guy one of the guys put
- 31:24his hands up and was like so I've got a daughter I try and tell her about the shit she doesn't listen
- 31:27and it's kind of like it's because you're her dad yeah it's not because you haven't got
- 31:31great information you need to find something you can relate to so I feel like yeah if any of
- 31:37you know your audience are listening to this and curious they probably have similar questions to
- 31:41so like if there's anything you wanted to chat about. I'm trying to think like well I asked you
- 31:45there are the property stuff maybe like you know with people that are like stock brokers and stuff
- 31:49is that a way to if you don't want to do the whole understanding the stocks do you think that's smart
- 31:54then have like a stock broker that kind of be the in-between person or it's like then how do you
- 31:58know who to go do or like yeah it's pretty overwhelming and like that used to be a stock broker
- 32:03yeah well not yeah is that what it's called fun then it just like yeah yeah plenty helps just so
- 32:07annoying with her like yeah no so stock brokers like a mortgage broker so they effectively just
- 32:14you go I want to buy this they go yep cool and they do it for you whereas like you have like
- 32:18financial advisor who's like okay yeah what are your goals what do you want to do yeah do you think
- 32:23it's smart to I think I'm to say someone like me who's like literally dumb dumb clueless
- 32:28instead of going to my mom you're not you know I would normally go to my mom to ask for opinions
- 32:34and stuff but I think sometimes having an external opinion could be valid yeah it's not so close
- 32:39do you think finding a financial advisor is a smart step for someone that doesn't fully understand
- 32:44I think if that's what's going to get you into investing then definitely because like a lot of
- 32:47people are like oh but I just don't know who to go with it's like talk to friends talk to family
- 32:52talk to people that invest get some we can give you some recommendations yes but just like talk
- 32:58to him we like hey do you use the financial advisor who would you recommend but test it out because
- 33:02it is kind of like what it's like but it's it's someone that you you want to trust it's like
- 33:07giving a lawyer or an accountant you know someone that understands you understands what you're
- 33:11trying to achieve so it's okay to go see a few and be like nah I get weird energy from you or
- 33:16you just feel like you're trying to take me for a ride or yeah yeah but actually do have an
- 33:20episode um raising the curve episode 26 which was four questions to ask before investing like
- 33:25with a fund manager yeah so I think if you're wondering if that's something you should do that's a
- 33:30great episode because it's just like the things to think about when choosing someone like even the
- 33:34one that you shared around having a fund manager an advisor that's invested in the same kinds of
- 33:38things that you then invest in because they yeah a choosing ones they know are going to be really
- 33:42good you know just stuff like that being like oh do you invest in this too yeah yeah yeah yeah to
- 33:47sure but it's yeah it's it's hard because it is quite overwhelming but that's kind of what we're
- 33:53trying to do is like if you know the questions to ask where you know what you're looking for then it
- 33:57can be really slightly easy but yeah I mean you pay for a financial advisor but yeah we pay for any
- 34:03kind of service but yeah I think if that's what you need to get investing then definitely do it
- 34:08like better than sitting in the bank sorry yeah totally yeah I think if you're in a position where
- 34:14you have enough savings that it's a mere having it in the bank then pay for their financial advisor
- 34:18yeah because it's also like with money I think it's so easy to be like I'm an adherence to my right
- 34:23yeah and then five years later and then you've lost so me with it my mom gets so angry at me and
- 34:28I'm like it just is so overwhelming but I also know how like the potential of my mind if I just
- 34:34took a little bit more time to understand because I've always felt like I'm very business savvy
- 34:38because I am in my like I am my business like I'm savvy in that way and it's like I just want to
- 34:42take it to that next step because I also feel like as a woman feeling really empowered in that way
- 34:46would just be quite amazing you know like I've been surrounded by men a lot of my life that are
- 34:51very on the business side this this this and this and then I've never included in the conversations
- 34:55because it's like oh you just won't understand so I've just started shutting myself off from it being
- 34:59like okay yeah I'll never understand now I'm like no cardio that's bullshit like involve yourself
- 35:03in the conversation and that's because the information that's because you've learnt and you know
- 35:08what what you want and what you're trying to achieve and it's the same with investing it's like yes
- 35:12you'll have people that will tell you what to do but the more that you can understand yourself the
- 35:16more you would be like no no that doesn't that's not what I want to invest in or that doesn't align
- 35:20with my values or whatever yeah but it takes time it's like don't think it's going to happen
- 35:26overnight yeah I'm excited yeah I feel like I feel like for me my brain was just in such a like
- 35:37ah motor now I'm like okay well we need to look at some things in your life and I think moving
- 35:41overseas also puts a lot into perspective too of just like okay like you want more stability so
- 35:46and just that not that comfort knowing you've got some things in check and if you're investing
- 35:51it well that's another revenue stream yeah you know what I hope my interest coming in on my
- 35:57investments thank you yeah um I guess one on maybe that multiple revenue streams the lumpiness
- 36:05you know like I'm assuming that you get pays maybe in lump sum or yeah just kind of for in large
- 36:11parcels how do you manage that from like a budgeting cash flow standpoint I have set up my like
- 36:19me as Cardi and Milan is now a business so it's like I'm all my money goes into my business
- 36:24and then I pay myself a salary from the business so once a month I'll get paid from the business
- 36:30I guess but yeah thank you mom um because you'll see it tax less once you're a business kind of
- 36:36thing yeah as a content creator I guess I used to put in my suppose to say that yeah I mean it's
- 36:41probably good because it's probably content creators that I'm gonna hear text if you are
- 36:44looking to that oh yeah you know I learned the hard way on that one did you get a big text bill
- 36:48somehow yes yes yeah I know so many people that that's happened to you yeah because I was just
- 36:52young and didn't know did I I thought that my mom would maybe tell me but I don't I don't know
- 36:56what happened there but anyways yeah until that structure was set up I honestly don't know I was
- 37:00just learning my savings compile yeah and I wasn't really spending much like so I could manage it
- 37:05fine like I I'm not my mom last time I said I've said so much about my mom in this because all my
- 37:10money stuff links back to my mother but I say I'm not a big spender she seems to think I am I
- 37:16spend my money on like my friends going up for dinners or like just life necessities so I feel like
- 37:22I've I've never had to budget because it's hard for free though like maybe and yeah because
- 37:27you love fashion is it like yeah yeah I also like I'm a big vintage shopper thrift shopper like I
- 37:36I don't have a crazy like I'm gonna go out and I need to buy all these expensive clothes I think
- 37:40I've formed more of an expensive taste as I've gotten older so I have a bit more leeway to do so
- 37:45but when I made a lot of money when I was younger yeah so that money really has just been like
- 37:50compiling over the years because my I was really only out putting out money on my living expenses
- 37:56like rent when I moved to Sydney and like when I was in the environment and I'm just smartish when
- 38:01it comes I don't drop lots of money on materialistic what have you had any not blowout but if you
- 38:06had any purchases yeah like okay this is a treat myself moment yeah you know spend the
- 38:10smudge on something yeah what are recently like moving here and I'm when I'm getting paid bigger
- 38:15jobs like I'm getting paid in pounds when it hits my account it's double oh yes
- 38:19yes I know it's hard it was me for the whole first year though like I you I took an L
- 38:27moving here and all my savings I guess came in handy because I did lose a lot of money moving
- 38:31here because it was double everything paying in pounds but now that it's going back like I did a
- 38:35big job and like got paid and hit my account it was double I was like I'm off to self-adjust
- 38:40like yeah yeah and I think it's really important every once in a while to do those little things
- 38:44to get you get yourself something because I just never did that growing up I was just I just was
- 38:48like I don't need anything like I just kept all my money there I never really like I felt
- 38:52weird spending a lot of money on myself it felt silly but no now I do it every once in a while
- 38:56make sure it's a really good investment piece that yeah I love that you're looking at that like
- 39:00it promises yeah come in sitting off and value it's coming off and value like I used to spend like
- 39:04sometimes if I bought say a designer bag I get like something stupid and like bright and colorful
- 39:08that I couldn't it wasn't timeless yeah it was only like a for the moment piece now like I buy
- 39:14like I bought a wire cell bag the other day that's like a big travel bag and it's it's just black
- 39:18with gold and it's like you're gonna have this for years yeah give this to your children if you don't
- 39:23destroy it before then you know yeah that's good yeah yeah I need to take leave out of that
- 39:28bomb yeah I just get way too excited yeah I've also I'm in a weird position at the moment like
- 39:34yeah I had to take so much money out of my investments because moving to London just been so
- 39:37expensive like holy shit but I just recently decided I was like you know I'm actually just
- 39:43gonna take money out of my investment A because I've smashed my phone screen B because like I have to
- 39:47pay for things like lost their pods etc yeah however I'm also gonna take myself on a little
- 39:53weak long trip Europe and just not feel sad about it because I've actually just got to the point
- 39:57where I was like I'm sick of feeling stressy and like worried and not treating myself I'm just
- 40:01gonna give myself a week where I have I know this is stupid and I know I'm taking money out but I
- 40:07it's not though like I always talked to my friends about money manifesting like because I'm
- 40:11I was saying I'm very spiritual and it's like people are people are either going to be like you
- 40:16dumb bitch insane this I don't really care this is what's work for me it's I taught my mom how to
- 40:21do this because my mom used to be a stressy about money stuff and I said the minute you relinquish
- 40:26all of this stress and this lack of abundance right now you're telling the university tell yourself
- 40:31I am lacking I am lacking I'm lacking there's no space to attract anything here especially money
- 40:36and I did this myself when I moved to London I wasn't getting any jobs because no one knew who I was
- 40:40here yet I wasn't getting booked and then I just was so stressed about money I was like I'm gonna
- 40:45have to leave London I'm I can't survive here like everything's expensive like stress stress stress stress
- 40:50which you're just putting out a negative emotion it's blocking everything the minute I went
- 40:55every day I was doing mantra as I was like I am abundant I am making money I'm getting paid
- 40:58lots money getting paid in pounds I would write in my journal pound simple pound simple like
- 41:02everything else like money is coming to me now I am deserving of this like blah blah I started
- 41:07getting jobs come in jobs come in and I also went to the shops and I bought myself something nice
- 41:13or you upgrade your living conditions like I got those new bed sheets that I really wanted and
- 41:18I made I got a new Dyson vacuum cleaner or something to keep my house when you invest in things
- 41:24that are going to upgrade your living qualities or living standards and you go I deserve to live
- 41:29this way watch everything changed I'm not kidding you and it's not saying money just comes out of thin air
- 41:34so I was like oh you said I can get you but you set a new standards just like that these are my rates
- 41:40because I respect myself it's going well this is what I know I deserve and it's all going to come
- 41:45to me like I am attracting this because your hearts open your brain is open you're going I'm just
- 41:50going to let this flow in you start to work hard but you're then more positive and when you're
- 41:55just doing it for yourself it's like oh my god I'm like proud of myself and it's always making
- 42:00sure you're reflecting going this is what I've achieved because it can be so hard when you're like
- 42:03on that path to grinding or wanting to make more money and you nothing feels good enough I'm not
- 42:08doing enough I'm not enough yet you need to reflect on what you've done in that say past
- 42:12month past year so you can acknowledge wow I am making steps because you also can't get caught up
- 42:18in money you can't you'll just become a shit person you know money it is that thing it doesn't
- 42:24make you happy it makes you comfy and nice things but if you do get too caught up in it it just
- 42:29makes you bit evil doesn't it it was like a be careful like there was a survey that was done
- 42:34I got there long ago and it was like they interviewed like hundreds hundreds of people
- 42:38about that of various salaries and some earned like 50,000 some earned three million you know like
- 42:43it was like huge salary discrepancies and they said you know what would be the ideal salary
- 42:48where you think you would be happy and you would be fulfilled and everyone said about three to four
- 42:53times more than I make now even the people earning millions even the people earning you know next
- 42:59to nothing wow everyone wanted that little bit more but then they would have got there and they'd
- 43:02want a little more like there's no yeah I can tell you for a fact the happiest I've ever been in
- 43:07my life was also I was younger so probably like not as much stress but genuinely it was when I'd
- 43:13first moved to Byron and I put all my savings which is five thousand dollars I put it all onto
- 43:18this apartment so I could live in Byron to like pay my rent up front I had I couldn't say like nothing
- 43:24really in my bank account I was just fucking cruising I was like I'm here in that like I've got this
- 43:29place and I'll sort it out and it was the happiest I've ever been like and but I guess I've
- 43:34from a young age never been money oriented that much it's never been like my defining factor of
- 43:39joy but I've noticed when I moved here and I started stressing about money and I still had
- 43:43savings in my account and I'm stressing it's just not coming in as much it does it can make you a
- 43:47little bit so yeah so what are my new mantras that I need to work because what are my manifesting
- 43:52money my money is coming my way now pounds pounds pounds for a little pound sign
- 44:06just have like money coming out of my pockets all the time like I wake up boy
