- 0:01We tend to believe that we are a single consistent and harmonized
- 0:06individuality personality character.
- 0:11For the most part, we are not self reflective enough to
- 0:15recognize the inconsistencies and inner conflicts that take
- 0:20place within the being due to different drives needs desires
- 0:26and thoughts. Pulling us in different
- 0:30directions. This view, makes it difficult if
- 0:34not impossible to effectuate real change in the nature.
- 0:39To the extent that we recognize that there are multiple cells
- 0:42possible for an individual. We tend to relegate this to an
- 0:46extreme category of psychological imbalance, which
- 0:50we call multiple personality disorder.
- 0:54In fact, every individual has a number of different selves that
- 0:59find among themselves. A rough form of balance with one
- 1:03in ascendant at one point in time.
- 1:06And another at another point in time.
- 1:10For those individuals who wish to gain Mastery over their
- 1:13nature, who are following spiritual Pursuits, who are
- 1:17seeking to participate consciously in the evolution of
- 1:20consciousness. It soon becomes evident that a
- 1:25deeper understanding is required.
- 1:28And the yogic process is transformed into practical
- 1:31psychology as SRI aurobindo has termed it.
- 1:36The exploration of the inner makeup, the Divergent drives
- 1:40thoughts, emotions feelings, desires, perceptions, and needs
- 1:46the create these separate cells within us.
- 1:50Becomes an important, and even essential part of the yogic
- 1:54practice, SRI aurobindo writes, quote, we have within us and
- 2:02discover when we go deep enough in words, in mind, self a life
- 2:07self a physical self. There is a being of Mind, a
- 2:11mental purusa, expressing something of itself, on our
- 2:15surface, in the thoughts perceptions, Abilities of our
- 2:21mind nature, a being of Life, which expresses something of
- 2:26itself. In the impulses feelings,
- 2:29Sensations desires, external life activities of our Vital
- 2:34nature of physical being a being of the body, which expresses
- 2:40something of itself in the instincts habits, formulated
- 2:45activities of our physical nature.
- 2:49These beings or part selves of the self and us our powers of
- 2:53the spirit and therefore, not limited by their temporary
- 2:57expression. For what is this?
- 3:00Formulated is only a fragment of its possibilities, but the
- 3:05expression creates a temporary mental, vital or physical
- 3:09personality, which grows and develops, even as the psychic
- 3:15being or Soul personality, grows and develops within us.
- 3:20Each has its own distinct nature.
- 3:24It's influence its action on the whole of us.
- 3:28But on our surface, all these influences and all this action
- 3:33as they come up mingle and create an aggregate surface
- 3:37being, which is a composite, an amalgam of them, all and outer
- 3:42persistent, and yet, shifting and mobile formation for the
- 3:47purpose of this life, and it's limited experience in quote, the
- 3:53mother Quote if you have the philosophic mind you will ask
- 3:58yourself what do I call myself? Is it my body?
- 4:04It changes all the time. It is never the same thing.
- 4:09Is it? My feelings?
- 4:10They change. So often.
- 4:13Is it? My thoughts.
- 4:15They are built and destroyed continuously that is not my
- 4:19self. Where is the self?
- 4:22What is it? That gives me this sense of
- 4:24continuity, you continue to observe, you tell yourself.
- 4:29It is my memory, but even if one loses one's memory, one would be
- 4:35oneself. If one sincerely continues this
- 4:39profound search, there comes a moment when everything
- 4:43disappears and one single thing exists, that is the Divine the
- 4:49divine presence. When one has made this
- 4:53discovery, one becomes aware that one was nothing but a
- 4:57bundle of habit, it is always that which does not know the
- 5:01Divine and is not conscious of the Divine which speaks in
- 5:06Everyone, there are these hundreds and hundreds of selves
- 5:10who speak and in hundreds of completely different waves,
- 5:15selves unconscious changing fluid the self which speaks
- 5:21today is not the same as yesterday's and if you look
- 5:25further, the self has disappeared.
- 5:28There's only one who remains that is the divine. it is the
- 5:34only one that may be seen always the same and quote reference SRI
