- 0:16Speaker 1: Well, I'm going to jag zam Today'm Conannie Steven's got
- 0:18Speaker 1: the whole crew back together. Brian Secks and John Oser
- 0:20Speaker 1: are with me today as we're getting ready to talk
- 0:23Speaker 1: about OTA's today's show, brought to you by Publics. We're
- 0:25Speaker 1: shopping is a pleasure. We're going to go over the
- 0:28Speaker 1: O and the OTAs because I, you know, I get
- 0:31Speaker 1: confused from time to time about what the O actually
- 0:33Speaker 1: stands for. So it is organized team activities, Brian, They're
- 0:38Speaker 1: going to be out there for OTAs. The Auston program
- 0:40Speaker 1: has been going on, but this is the first time
- 0:42Speaker 1: they'll be back with everybody, rookies and everyone included in
- 0:46Speaker 1: the coaching staff and the veterans of course, and see
- 0:49Speaker 1: it go well is important. Yeah, it is.
- 0:52Speaker 2: Listen, this is John Oser's favorite topic. So I'm going
- 0:54Speaker 2: to shut up and get out of the way and
- 0:56Speaker 2: let him have it.
- 0:56Speaker 1: Uh.
- 0:57Speaker 3: The biggest thing to me about this is culture.
- 1:00Speaker 2: The standard that Liam Cohen set with his team last year.
- 1:03Speaker 2: He implemented it had great success, right four wins in
- 1:06Speaker 2: twenty four to thirteen wins in twenty twenty five, and
- 1:09Speaker 2: so it's a way to get everybody back here doing
- 1:12Speaker 2: things his way to his standard together. And I think
- 1:16Speaker 2: that's the greatest takeaway because by the time we get
- 1:18Speaker 2: to the regular season, OTAs are such a distant memory.
- 1:21Speaker 2: You can't you can't recall what happened during them. So
- 1:25Speaker 2: this is about everybody. What's the old coaching saying, John,
- 1:28Speaker 2: the way you do anything is the way you do everything,
- 1:31Speaker 2: And that's what these OTAs are about. To get everybody
- 1:34Speaker 2: doing everything they should be doing the way they should
- 1:36Speaker 2: be doing it, over and over and over.
- 1:39Speaker 4: Look.
- 1:39Speaker 5: I joke all the time about OTA's and many camp
- 1:41Speaker 5: being meaningless, And what I mean by meaningless is us
- 1:46Speaker 5: in media observing and trying to draw conclusions is incredibly
- 1:51Speaker 5: meaningless because they're not in pads. They are still teaching
- 1:56Speaker 5: for the players involved, for the coaches part, for quarterbacks,
- 2:01Speaker 5: and for rookies and young players.
- 2:03Speaker 4: It's very meaningful.
- 2:04Speaker 5: How much is Trayvon Walker getting out of this, I
- 2:07Speaker 5: can't tell you. How much do guys who are involved
- 2:10Speaker 5: in the skill positions, who are young, who are trying
- 2:12Speaker 5: to learn, who are trying to get this right.
- 2:15Speaker 4: Yeah, I think it's very important.
- 2:17Speaker 5: Just you know, when you see people drawing conclusions saying, well,
- 2:21Speaker 5: I saw this and they're going to start because of
- 2:23Speaker 5: this buyerble ware.
- 2:26Speaker 1: Let's go to our second big thing today, which is optional.
- 2:28Speaker 1: This is where I always get perfused, which as it's voluntary, right,
- 2:31Speaker 1: so it's an option for the players to be involved.
- 2:34Speaker 1: They can still work out on their own at this
- 2:35Speaker 1: point in time. But John, we've seen a lot of
- 2:38Speaker 1: buying with Liam Cohen and his program, and there's been
- 2:41Speaker 1: a lot of people here already for weeks. So I
- 2:43Speaker 1: imagine we're going to see a good turnout today.
- 2:45Speaker 5: Yeah, I'd be surprised if there's not really good turnout.
- 2:48Speaker 4: You're in Florida.
- 2:49Speaker 5: Players want to be working out prepairing anyway. The optional
- 2:54Speaker 5: is OTAs are optional. The mini camp in two weeks
- 2:58Speaker 5: is not optional. It's the only thing that's not optional
- 3:00Speaker 5: all season, is that one or all off? Is that
- 3:03Speaker 5: one mini camp. I expect big buy in. I think
- 3:07Speaker 5: last year they took the approach of if there's a
- 3:09Speaker 5: legitimary reason for guys who have to be here on
- 3:11Speaker 5: a given day, I didn't bother him. It can't technically
- 3:16Speaker 5: bother them anyway. They can't say anything.
- 3:18Speaker 4: Of course, they.
- 3:18Speaker 5: Would like everybody to be here, and Brian I think
- 3:21Speaker 5: for the most part, you'll have very very good attendance
- 3:24Speaker 5: most days.
- 3:24Speaker 2: You know, you brought up Trayvon Walker, so I'll bring
- 3:26Speaker 2: up josh heinz Allen, who is a guy who famously
- 3:29Speaker 2: has gone to Arizona and worked out, you know, with
- 3:31Speaker 2: that mindset of being the best defensive player in the NFL.
- 3:35Speaker 2: But you know, he and there's a couple of other
- 3:38Speaker 2: veteran guys that might do things like that. At this
- 3:41Speaker 2: point of their career, they're about team. I mean, they're
- 3:43Speaker 2: about wanting to take what happened last year thirteen wins
- 3:46Speaker 2: in a playoff berth and take it further and a championship.
- 3:50Speaker 2: So why wouldn't a guy like josh heinz Allen be here.
- 3:53Speaker 2: I believe he's going to be I don't know that
- 3:54Speaker 2: for sure, but I use him as the example because
- 3:57Speaker 2: there's no reason for players who are folks on winning
- 4:00Speaker 2: as a team and a championship not being here for
- 4:04Speaker 2: these because that's what you get the most out of
- 4:07Speaker 2: is the repetitions.
- 4:08Speaker 1: Our final big thing today or our final O today
- 4:11Speaker 1: is going to be opportunities because during OTA is it's
- 4:13Speaker 1: the first chance to work with everybody on the team,
- 4:16Speaker 1: right now and kind of show yourself a little bit. Brian,
- 4:19Speaker 1: what position group do you feel like there's a lot
- 4:21Speaker 1: of opportunity for maybe a younger guy or a veteran
- 4:24Speaker 1: that they don't know as well.
- 4:25Speaker 6: To break through.
- 4:26Speaker 2: I think the offensive line is an interesting group, and
- 4:28Speaker 2: it's one that we talk a lot about. But you know,
- 4:30Speaker 2: you had a guy Joonah Monheim last year who got
- 4:33Speaker 2: some action on the field when Robert Hainsey was injured
- 4:36Speaker 2: in You've got the young offensive guard whose name escaves
- 4:39Speaker 2: me at this particular moment from Oregon, who's coming in
- 4:43Speaker 2: and Whyatt Milam who last year flashed during camp. You've
- 4:46Speaker 2: got a lot of young players in this group, and
- 4:49Speaker 2: I'm intrigued by it because there's got to be a
- 4:53Speaker 2: youth movement at some point in time. You've got some
- 4:55Speaker 2: guys that are are going to be starting to earn
- 4:57Speaker 2: that's pretty this way. The Jack spent money last year
- 5:00Speaker 2: free agency at center and guard. You've got to get
- 5:03Speaker 2: your guys in there at some point in time.
- 5:05Speaker 3: It just makes sense.
- 5:06Speaker 2: So I think this offensive line group is going to
- 5:08Speaker 2: be an interesting one, especially the interior spots.
- 5:10Speaker 4: And I can't wait to watch that in July, Bryan, It's.
- 5:15Speaker 5: No, it's that's the tough position to really watch right now.
- 5:20Speaker 5: For clarifications sake, there is one major difference between this
- 5:23Speaker 5: phase and Phase one and Phase two, and that's the
- 5:26Speaker 5: fact that they can be on the field eleven on eleven,
- 5:29Speaker 5: seven on seven. There can be more competition with defensive
- 5:33Speaker 5: backs playing against wide receivers, et cetera.
- 5:37Speaker 4: I think you're still watching the.
- 5:39Speaker 5: Tight ends Borchardhure and Cozy.
- 5:42Speaker 4: How do they look?
- 5:43Speaker 5: The skill positions are what you watch for. Maybe you
- 5:47Speaker 5: watch Rodriguez and bay Shell tooton a little bit. Maybe
- 5:50Speaker 5: watch the wide receivers against the cornerback. So that's what
- 5:53Speaker 5: I'll be watching. And again, key difference in the next
- 5:58Speaker 5: four weeks is this is the time that they can
- 6:00Speaker 5: actually if you are out here, it would look like
- 6:03Speaker 5: football practice. Nothing else has really looked like practice so far.
- 6:06Speaker 5: But it's looked like running around getting work done. But
- 6:09Speaker 5: now what do you think of as a practice?
- 6:11Speaker 6: Stay with us year on Jagsam.
- 6:12Speaker 1: Coming up after the break, we're gonna talk a little
- 6:14Speaker 1: bit about what's been going on around the NFL. Welcome
- 6:20Speaker 1: back to jag z Am today, brought to you by
- 6:22Speaker 1: Publics where shopping is a pleasure. And we're gonna talk
- 6:25Speaker 1: a little bit about what's been going on around the
- 6:26Speaker 1: NFL to keep you guys up to date on things.
- 6:29Speaker 1: And looks like we're gonna get more international games. They
- 6:31Speaker 1: just voted next season they're gonna have ten international games
- 6:34Speaker 1: again nine this year. They I know they're going to
- 6:37Speaker 1: continue to expand as much as physically possible.
- 6:40Speaker 6: Is there a number that's too many at this point, Brian,
- 6:42Speaker 6: it's gonna keep going.
- 6:43Speaker 2: Well, that's so much opinion, but I think you're gonna
- 6:46Speaker 2: get to sixteen. I mean, they're gonna expand eventually to
- 6:49Speaker 2: eighteen games, maybe be eighteen, but this is not stopping it.
- 6:54Speaker 2: Clearly they're going to ten next year and they're investing
- 6:57Speaker 2: either playing in is it Melbourne or Sydney. They're playing
- 6:59Speaker 2: in Melbourne in Australia this year, which is about as
- 7:01Speaker 2: extreme as you can get.
- 7:03Speaker 3: So if you're going all the way to Melbourne, want
- 7:05Speaker 3: to go to Dubai?
- 7:06Speaker 1: Right?
- 7:06Speaker 2: There was a preseason game was scheduled at one point
- 7:08Speaker 2: in Shanghai, I think or Beijing in twenty fifteen.
- 7:11Speaker 3: It got scrapped. You're going to see it.
- 7:13Speaker 2: You're gonna see it worldwide, and the league understands you're
- 7:18Speaker 2: not going to expand in terms of the number of teams,
- 7:21Speaker 2: but you can expand the number of markets, and so
- 7:23Speaker 2: they're going to play in as many markets as they can.
- 7:26Speaker 2: And again, if you're willing to go to Australia, which
- 7:28Speaker 2: I think is a Wednesday night game here, yeah, which
- 7:31Speaker 2: means that it's being played over there on Thursday morning.
- 7:33Speaker 2: If you're going to do that, then there's nowhere on
- 7:35Speaker 2: the planet you can't play.
- 7:36Speaker 5: Yeah, it's clearly common. I guess the number that they'll
- 7:41Speaker 5: eventually reach, you would think is sixteen, which would be
- 7:45Speaker 5: every team playing somewhere every year.
- 7:49Speaker 4: I guess that is the most logical even number. I guess.
- 7:55Speaker 5: I mean, you know, it's clearly going to keep increasing.
- 7:59Speaker 5: It does feel like they've realized, Okay, we can't put
- 8:02Speaker 5: teams everywhere, so we can put them. We can treat everybody,
- 8:07Speaker 5: quote unfairly once a year and send them somewhere.
- 8:11Speaker 4: So let's say, ask what it's going to be.
- 8:12Speaker 2: Do you think that the Jaguars have figured out the
- 8:14Speaker 2: back to back thing in London?
- 8:17Speaker 3: I mean, by your.
- 8:18Speaker 1: Estimation, they seem to have a downpat as much as
- 8:21Speaker 1: anybody's going.
- 8:21Speaker 3: To then I'll make a wild prediction.
- 8:23Speaker 2: I don't know if it comes true, you know, in
- 8:25Speaker 2: my lifetime, but I think you might see a lot
- 8:28Speaker 2: more of that. The back to back games overseas on
- 8:32Speaker 2: eight different weekends, right, so that you get it over sixteen.
- 8:37Speaker 2: I just I have this sense that that's where this
- 8:40Speaker 2: thing is headed.
- 8:40Speaker 4: Yeah, you can see that.
- 8:42Speaker 5: I'd be surprised if they took it to a deal
- 8:45Speaker 5: where teams had to give up more than one home game,
- 8:49Speaker 5: which is not.
- 8:49Speaker 4: What you're saying, right, But I mean, yeah, you could see.
- 8:53Speaker 5: Them doing that where it was eight weeks and keeping
- 8:57Speaker 5: it tighter. But I also kind of think the league
- 9:00Speaker 5: likes having international spotlight sort of week by week and
- 9:06Speaker 5: having that special thing.
- 9:08Speaker 4: But is it special if you do it all the time,
- 9:09Speaker 4: I don't know.
- 9:10Speaker 2: I was heartened. Y. It's interesting because you hear so
- 9:14Speaker 2: much about expansion. No one ever says, well, we're gonna
- 9:16Speaker 2: limit this, right when it's expansion and global, it's everywhere.
- 9:20Speaker 2: But someone was asked about the Super Bowl being played internationally,
- 9:25Speaker 2: and it was as if this official from the league
- 9:27Speaker 2: office was pumping the brake, saying, you know.
- 9:28Speaker 6: That's that's too much that maybe it could.
- 9:32Speaker 2: Someday kind of, but it was the first time where
- 9:35Speaker 2: there was a thought about international game where it wasn't well, yeah,
- 9:38Speaker 2: it's sort of almost like, yeah, hold on, that's and.
- 9:41Speaker 5: I'm speaking out of turn a little bit because I'm
- 9:43Speaker 5: not talked to him in the league about this, but
- 9:46Speaker 5: I've seen different spots where as soon as the International
- 9:49Speaker 5: super Bowl gets mentioned, now you start getting some sort
- 9:52Speaker 5: of politics involved where you know people don't want it
- 9:55Speaker 5: out of the States. The revenue of that game should
- 9:59Speaker 5: go to a ai US city. Again, I have no
- 10:04Speaker 5: idea if that's really a thing, but I've got to
- 10:05Speaker 5: think that that's.
- 10:07Speaker 4: A line that's tough to cross.
- 10:09Speaker 1: That's the line in the sand, at least for now.
- 10:12Speaker 1: In Florida, two bills are passed last week, one of
- 10:14Speaker 1: them the Teddy Bridgewater Act, which is kind of in
- 10:18Speaker 1: regards to Teddy Bridgewater. When he was away from football,
- 10:20Speaker 1: he was coaching high school football in Florida, and he
- 10:23Speaker 1: actually got fired because he was helping out his players
- 10:25Speaker 1: buying equipment, first players paying for Uber's home after late practices,
- 10:30Speaker 1: and that wasn't allowed. But now there's going to be
- 10:32Speaker 1: a certain cap I think it's fifteen thousand dollars. But
- 10:34Speaker 1: coaches are allowed to help out with things that their
- 10:36Speaker 1: players may eat in certain areas, which is great. And
- 10:38Speaker 1: there's also going to be raises for high school coaches
- 10:41Speaker 1: in Florida as well. That was a bill be signed
- 10:43Speaker 1: in Jacksonville last week. So it sounds like some good
- 10:45Speaker 1: things all around for high school sports.
- 10:47Speaker 2: Yeah, it's growing so fast it feels like college all
- 10:49Speaker 2: of a sudden. I know of a player who has
- 10:53Speaker 2: an anil deal.
- 10:54Speaker 3: In high school.
- 10:56Speaker 4: I was come to that now.
- 10:57Speaker 2: No, there's some local kids who have some deals where
- 11:00Speaker 2: they I think their minor relatively speaking, it's a peril
- 11:04Speaker 2: or something like that. But the wild West is here
- 11:08Speaker 2: with high school football, and Florida, you know, being one
- 11:11Speaker 2: of the biggest states for athletes in high school competition
- 11:15Speaker 2: is jumping right in with both feet. And Bridgewater is
- 11:19Speaker 2: not Unlike a lot of teachers. You've heard of kindergarten
- 11:22Speaker 2: teachers right who to spend their own money on school
- 11:25Speaker 2: supplies a year and year out. Football coaches should not
- 11:28Speaker 2: be penalized. They know their kids and they understand the
- 11:31Speaker 2: circumstances and they should be allowed to help.
- 11:33Speaker 1: I think it's similar to kind of you want to
- 11:36Speaker 1: compete with everybody, right, the same thing we're seeing with
- 11:38Speaker 1: nil in Georgia. College high school coaches can make up
- 11:41Speaker 1: to six figures certain places, so they want Florida, which
- 11:44Speaker 1: has a depth of talent in football, to be able
- 11:46Speaker 1: to compete with that in town. So that was exciting
- 11:50Speaker 1: to see, at least for local coaches as well as
- 11:52Speaker 1: youth football. And then our final around the NFL news
- 11:56Speaker 1: today is not happening here, It's happening in Tennessee. But
- 12:00Speaker 1: for Sala's hidings head coach has banned seed oils from
- 12:02Speaker 1: the Titans facility. Now, Jacksonville is not doing that because
- 12:05Speaker 1: they're gonna have to pry the incrustables from John's cold
- 12:08Speaker 1: dead hands. Oils are everything, so they're taking they're trying
- 12:14Speaker 1: to take all the good stuff away, is what I'm saying.
- 12:18Speaker 5: Yeah, I mean it's uh good for them, good for Sala.
- 12:24Speaker 4: It is what he believes.
- 12:26Speaker 5: Again, Brian, I told you, I think somewhere Tom called
- 12:29Speaker 5: thanking whist.
- 12:30Speaker 4: I thought of that. That's the one thing that he
- 12:33Speaker 4: didn't think of to do.
- 12:35Speaker 5: So, uh yeah, it's every off season there's a quirky
- 12:41Speaker 5: little story about some head coach doing something a little extreme. Uh,
- 12:46Speaker 5: this is Sala's version. I mean maybe he thought, you know,
- 12:50Speaker 5: it didn't work out in New York.
- 12:51Speaker 2: Maybe this is why back in the day Sala was
- 12:54Speaker 2: he was the psycho coach before a game that was
- 12:56Speaker 2: running the steps at full speed in a visiting stadium.
- 12:59Speaker 2: We got he's nutritional. I mean, he's that guy. So
- 13:04Speaker 2: what I want to know is what are the seed oils?
- 13:06Speaker 2: Do you know which ones there?
- 13:07Speaker 3: I don't know.
- 13:08Speaker 6: I mean I know, I know some.
- 13:10Speaker 1: It's like palm seed oil, sunflower seed oil, vegetable oils.
- 13:15Speaker 6: I think oil.
- 13:16Speaker 1: I'm not sure there's a list, but unfortunately it's in
- 13:18Speaker 1: a lot of different foods. So I just find I
- 13:21Speaker 1: found it an interesting rule to apply when you're just
- 13:24Speaker 1: getting somewhere. And I know you guys have been around
- 13:26Speaker 1: a lot of head coaches. What's the weirdest head coach
- 13:28Speaker 1: rule that you can remember?
- 13:29Speaker 6: Well, we used to joke, and I know Tom Coughlin
- 13:31Speaker 6: had a lot of them.
- 13:31Speaker 2: Well we had a lot, but we used to do
- 13:33Speaker 2: I don't know this to be true, but we used
- 13:34Speaker 2: to joke that the dining facility in the old stadium
- 13:37Speaker 2: was called the Creatine cafe, right, because for those of
- 13:41Speaker 2: us who were not lifting like that, we always felt
- 13:44Speaker 2: a little bloated when we left there.
- 13:46Speaker 4: We joked that there was something in it, guarantee there something.
- 13:48Speaker 3: We called it the creatine Cafe.
- 13:51Speaker 2: So to listen, Coach Coughlin was on top of the
- 13:54Speaker 2: nutritionists down there. He's not the only one, so I
- 13:57Speaker 2: was not the only one.
- 13:58Speaker 5: Yeah, the weirdest rules, Tom, I mean, you know, Tom
- 14:01Speaker 5: had a lot of them.
- 14:02Speaker 4: They were really weird.
- 14:03Speaker 5: I mean, five minutes early everywhere, no sunglasses at practice.
- 14:07Speaker 5: There were many, many many. I just think maybe he
- 14:11Speaker 5: hadn't gotten the seed oils yet.
- 14:12Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, that's right.
- 14:15Speaker 6: I don't think so that would be it. That would
- 14:17Speaker 6: probably be a fight for olive oil.
- 14:18Speaker 3: I just got back from Italy and I ate a
- 14:20Speaker 3: lot of that.
- 14:20Speaker 6: It might be a tough one, i'd say with us.
- 14:22Speaker 1: After the break, we're going to answer some ozone mail
- 14:24Speaker 1: bag questions.
- 14:37Speaker 6: Welcome back. We're opening up the ozone mail bag questions.
- 14:40Speaker 1: All the viewers writing in and they, you know, they
- 14:42Speaker 1: want to get some John's want to know, They want
- 14:44Speaker 1: to know to know some of John's wisdom. Brian knows
- 14:47Speaker 1: a lot as well. I'm just here to host, but
- 14:49Speaker 1: I took some of the more philosophical ones because they
- 14:51Speaker 1: were a little more fun this week, So we do.
- 14:53Speaker 1: Steve at work at the beach from Jack's uh listening
- 14:56Speaker 1: to local sports talk recently, and hypothetical question comes up,
- 14:59Speaker 1: what jaguar in his prime would you add to this
- 15:01Speaker 1: team for one year for the most improvement? He says,
- 15:05Speaker 1: I feel old because I have finally lived long enough
- 15:07Speaker 1: that people have lost touch at how dominant Fred Taylor
- 15:09Speaker 1: was in his prime. Put on the Monday night Steelers
- 15:12Speaker 1: game for the new staff. Am I delusional? We're all
- 15:14Speaker 1: a little delusional, but I think he's right in this instance.
- 15:17Speaker 5: But Brian, these are so tough because you know, there's been,
- 15:22Speaker 5: in my opinion, three or four Hall of Fame level
- 15:25Speaker 5: players to play here and Tony Fred Jimmy, I would
- 15:32Speaker 5: probably slide Kalais in there for a few years in
- 15:35Speaker 5: terms of and he might go to the Hall of Fame,
- 15:37Speaker 5: and he was at a level Henderson and Stroud. There's
- 15:41Speaker 5: been a few guys who have been at level on
- 15:43Speaker 5: your list.
- 15:44Speaker 6: I'd pick Jalen for the drama and he's well.
- 15:49Speaker 4: A stretch he was playing.
- 15:51Speaker 5: But there's a few so when you're talking about Hall
- 15:56Speaker 5: of Famers, Okay, yeah, putting Fred in this offense would
- 16:00Speaker 5: be magnificent. Putting Stroud, I mean I didn't cover Stroud
- 16:04Speaker 5: or Henderson, but putting them on the interior this defense
- 16:06Speaker 5: pre dominant.
- 16:07Speaker 3: You remember your saw it be terrific.
- 16:09Speaker 5: I take Jimmy, Yeah, you know, so, I don't know
- 16:13Speaker 5: that it's a they'd all help in terms of what
- 16:19Speaker 5: I'd love to see. What can you imagine Fred in
- 16:22Speaker 5: this offense? You know what he could do? And I
- 16:25Speaker 5: was covering the Colts up there. People up there, people
- 16:29Speaker 5: talked about Stroud and Henderson on this team, and they
- 16:32Speaker 5: talked about Fred. If Fred was in this offense, he's
- 16:34Speaker 5: a twenty one, twenty two hundred yard like, he's that
- 16:37Speaker 5: kind of guy. He would be that kind of guy
- 16:40Speaker 5: in this He'd been that kind of guy and a
- 16:41Speaker 5: lot of things. So it would have been incredible to
- 16:44Speaker 5: see Fred in this offense. Wouldn't mind seeing those two
- 16:47Speaker 5: defensive tackles.
- 16:49Speaker 2: So yeah, yeah, there's a lot of different angles. I
- 16:51Speaker 2: could go with this one as well, but I'm gonna
- 16:53Speaker 2: go with the obvious. BISSELLI you have good offensive linemen.
- 16:59Speaker 2: Tony his greatness right, And it wasn't just it wasn't
- 17:04Speaker 2: just the fact that he kept his quarterback on his
- 17:07Speaker 2: feet when there was a moment that called for a badass, right,
- 17:11Speaker 2: everyone rallied around him.
- 17:12Speaker 3: He was the standard, the toughness, and it.
- 17:16Speaker 2: Was in the locker room, it was on the field,
- 17:19Speaker 2: it was on the plane. Tony was the leader of
- 17:22Speaker 2: the in a room that had a lot of great players.
- 17:26Speaker 2: He was the great leader as well that rose to
- 17:28Speaker 2: the moment. And so I give me seventy one.
- 17:31Speaker 5: Well, most teams identify through the quarterback, and Mark Brnew
- 17:36Speaker 5: was three time, Corey three Pro Bowls. The voice of
- 17:40Speaker 5: the franchise in the locker room was Tony at that time.
- 17:43Speaker 4: Yeah, and and.
- 17:45Speaker 5: Keenan because he was such a great quote, right, Yeah,
- 17:49Speaker 5: Tony was the identity of the team, which sounds weird
- 17:54Speaker 5: now because there's really not a team I don't think
- 17:56Speaker 5: like that.
- 17:56Speaker 4: So it's hard to argue against the.
- 17:58Speaker 6: Selling Yeah, it's pretty hard.
- 17:59Speaker 1: Not It takes a guy I like to argue against,
- 18:02Speaker 1: but he likes to argue with you. But he's got
- 18:06Speaker 1: a gold jacket, so I can't. I can't knock come there,
- 18:09Speaker 1: all right. Next we got Robert from Elkton. What position
- 18:11Speaker 1: group has had the most consistency of high quality players
- 18:15Speaker 1: in Jaguars history? For me, it's hands down, no question
- 18:19Speaker 1: about it. The linebackers.
- 18:21Speaker 5: Yeah, all deferre to Brian here a little bit because
- 18:24Speaker 5: he was here for ten years when I wasn't. Linebackers
- 18:26Speaker 5: is awfully good. You know, you've got even guys you
- 18:30Speaker 5: don't think about it a whole lot, Mike Pete, Darryl Smith, Paulsi,
- 18:34Speaker 5: Kevin Hardy.
- 18:36Speaker 4: It has been consistent.
- 18:38Speaker 5: And even in the quote dark years he had pause,
- 18:41Speaker 5: he had Darryl Smith kind of leaning into that. So
- 18:45Speaker 5: it's been a really solid position group. There's only one
- 18:47Speaker 5: group running back spin that's it. Yeah, I mean it's
- 18:52Speaker 5: you've got two different Fred Hall of Famer to me.
- 18:59Speaker 4: And Mojo reached Ay all pro level.
- 19:01Speaker 3: He's your all time touchdown leader as well.
- 19:03Speaker 4: Yeah, so that's been very good.
- 19:05Speaker 2: Well, and then just sprinkling some other guys. I mean
- 19:07Speaker 2: when Leonard was here in twenty seventeen, that was a
- 19:10Speaker 2: signature season. He was the driving force in the offense
- 19:13Speaker 2: that made it all work. It didn't last for him,
- 19:16Speaker 2: but I mean he was a premier player that year.
- 19:18Speaker 2: He was the facing franchise in many respects and etn
- 19:23Speaker 2: You know, the last three years has been a really
- 19:25Speaker 2: productive player with some splashy plays. But when you have
- 19:29Speaker 2: a room with Fred Taylor and Maurice Jones Troup and
- 19:31Speaker 2: by the way, in two thousand and seven they were
- 19:34Speaker 2: together and led the league at one hundred and fifty
- 19:37Speaker 2: four point six yards per game, and that team went
- 19:39Speaker 2: into the playoffs largely because of those two players and
- 19:43Speaker 2: their egos where they were selfless with one another. I've
- 19:46Speaker 2: got a great picture of the two of them after
- 19:48Speaker 2: they retired and me on the set in the stadium,
- 19:51Speaker 2: and I cherish it because there are two incredible human
- 19:54Speaker 2: beings that I love dearly. And to suggest that any
- 19:58Speaker 2: room was the equal of that because of the kind
- 20:01Speaker 2: of player in person, will be disingenuous.
- 20:04Speaker 3: They are one. That group to me is one.
- 20:07Speaker 1: I think they're both so great the overlap as well
- 20:09Speaker 1: to have that success, the relationship they had together. And
- 20:12Speaker 1: then also just for me coming in, you know, I
- 20:15Speaker 1: know as much about the Jaguars as any NFL fan
- 20:18Speaker 1: maybe knows. Those are probably the first two names I
- 20:20Speaker 1: would tell you out of my mouth when I would
- 20:22Speaker 1: talk about the Jaguars before we having been here.
- 20:24Speaker 2: And they both care about the position group, right, I
- 20:25Speaker 2: mean they both tried to put their hands on Leonard
- 20:28Speaker 2: and help him. They both reached out to Travis when
- 20:31Speaker 2: Travis became the feature back here. And I'm not sure
- 20:35Speaker 2: if both have talked to Basil Tutan, but I know
- 20:37Speaker 2: Fred has. They care about the legacy of running backs
- 20:41Speaker 2: in Jaguars history. It's very important to them and I
- 20:44Speaker 2: think that matters into the equation too.
- 20:46Speaker 1: All right, this is another fun off season question. YETI
- 20:49Speaker 1: daddy from somewhere and nowhere. What makes some teams more
- 20:53Speaker 1: successful than others?
- 20:55Speaker 6: What do we call that? The IT factor? I'm taking
- 20:58Speaker 6: notes ozone.
- 21:00Speaker 1: Your answer will solve all of the issues for every
- 21:01Speaker 1: team because everyone will win from now on if we
- 21:04Speaker 1: know what it takes.
- 21:05Speaker 4: What's the everybody gets trophy?
- 21:08Speaker 3: Look, it's great to answer it.
- 21:12Speaker 4: It starts a quarterback.
- 21:13Speaker 5: If you don't have that, it's pretty It's really hard.
- 21:18Speaker 5: This is a little bit out there, and it it's
- 21:21Speaker 5: a little bit it's hard to bullet point this, but
- 21:24Speaker 5: I've come to believe over course of time, belief in
- 21:27Speaker 5: the head coach UH is really important and UH we've
- 21:33Speaker 5: all felt it when it's not there. We've all felt
- 21:35Speaker 5: it when it's there. Quarterback and belief in the head coach.
- 21:40Speaker 4: Are very important.
- 21:42Speaker 5: And line play, no matter how much you lean into it.
- 21:48Speaker 5: Be in a passing league, if you're not good on
- 21:51Speaker 5: the offensive and defensive lines, it's really hard to win.
- 21:55Speaker 5: And I could listen a million other things too, but
- 21:57Speaker 5: look for a quarterback play.
- 22:00Speaker 2: Yeah yeah, John just handled the very tangible side of it,
- 22:03Speaker 2: the football side of it, So I'll go with the intangible.
- 22:07Speaker 3: But we saw it last year in twenty twenty four.
- 22:09Speaker 3: There was no real standard in this building.
- 22:12Speaker 2: Players had their own individual standards, but there wasn't this
- 22:15Speaker 2: pervasive standard.
- 22:17Speaker 3: You covered the Patriots.
- 22:18Speaker 2: When you walked in their front office and saw all
- 22:19Speaker 2: those Lombardi trophies, when you saw Tom Brady's name hanging,
- 22:23Speaker 2: you knew what the standard was. No, let's expecting, you know,
- 22:25Speaker 2: it's expected the same thing in places like you know,
- 22:27Speaker 2: Pittsburgh and San Francisco and Dallas, where there are multiple trophies,
- 22:31Speaker 2: people know what that is. But that didn't exist here.
- 22:34Speaker 2: It was here early with Tom and Tony. So I
- 22:38Speaker 2: don't think it's a stretch to suggest that the standard
- 22:40Speaker 2: was reinstated the coach gave it to us, and then
- 22:43Speaker 2: Tony sort of enforced it just being around.
- 22:45Speaker 6: You know.
- 22:45Speaker 2: It wasn't like you wore the gold jacket in the hallway,
- 22:48Speaker 2: at least I don't think he did. But when he
- 22:50Speaker 2: walked around, there was that standard of toughness that was there.
- 22:53Speaker 2: And the Jaggers don't have a trophy case and so
- 22:56Speaker 2: there's no visible standard which gave them the standard last year.
- 23:01Speaker 2: And I think that's the difference when you have players
- 23:04Speaker 2: and John alluded to it somewhat when he talked about
- 23:06Speaker 2: believing in the coach but.
- 23:08Speaker 3: Buying into that standard.
- 23:09Speaker 2: This is how we do things because it matters to win, right,
- 23:13Speaker 2: Winning is most important.
- 23:15Speaker 3: It's pro football. It's about money.
- 23:16Speaker 2: But when you get a room full of people that
- 23:18Speaker 2: are willing to play to a standard, to work to
- 23:21Speaker 2: a standard every day, then I think that's the difference
- 23:26Speaker 2: between Good and Greg.
- 23:27Speaker 1: It's a good point you both make in terms of
- 23:29Speaker 1: the relationship with the coach, because I think coaching itself
- 23:32Speaker 1: maybe gets you one or two if it's a close game,
- 23:36Speaker 1: maybe a swing in a season, but it's the buy in, right,
- 23:39Speaker 1: because you can have the best coach in the world,
- 23:40Speaker 1: best plan in the world. Different players don't want to
- 23:42Speaker 1: do it and aren't executing it and don't think anything
- 23:45Speaker 1: of it.
- 23:45Speaker 6: It's not going to be successful on the field.
- 23:47Speaker 5: The head coach can succeed until the players stop believing
- 23:51Speaker 5: his right bs if you will, Yeah, And I joke
- 23:56Speaker 5: about that, and that's just sort of a funny way
- 23:59Speaker 5: of getting to A coach can succeed as long as
- 24:02Speaker 5: when he's standing in front of the room players believe
- 24:05Speaker 5: in him. When they don't, it's over. And there's an
- 24:09Speaker 5: art to it now that maybe was different in the
- 24:12Speaker 5: nineties with Tom meaning you've got to reach these players differently.
- 24:16Speaker 5: I don't know if you can high hand them and Liam,
- 24:20Speaker 5: I mean I really sort of woke up to this
- 24:22Speaker 5: watching Liam last year. There's an art to managing this
- 24:26Speaker 5: day and age players of I can be hard on you,
- 24:30Speaker 5: but I love you, and I think you have to
- 24:33Speaker 5: approach it that way now because it's too easy to
- 24:35Speaker 5: tune them out.
- 24:35Speaker 4: They can go somewhere else.
- 24:36Speaker 5: They can, you know, demand trades, which I think is ridiculous,
- 24:40Speaker 5: but players do it.
- 24:41Speaker 4: That's to me. Liam's gift is the ability to lead
- 24:45Speaker 4: in that manner.
- 24:45Speaker 2: It's your segment, so I want you to give the
- 24:47Speaker 2: last word. But let me just say this. When you
- 24:49Speaker 2: work with words, words are your work, right, you're famous saying.
- 24:53Speaker 2: One thing that I noticed about Liam last year was
- 24:55Speaker 2: it wasn't what he said, it was what he did
- 24:57Speaker 2: and the way that he did it.
- 24:59Speaker 3: And I think that's how you reach those players.
- 25:01Speaker 1: Today.
- 25:01Speaker 2: Words are, especially in the Internet and the social media age,
- 25:04Speaker 2: words are everywhere. Actions are rare, and I think that's
- 25:08Speaker 2: the difference.
- 25:08Speaker 1: Gotta back it up, Ray John, all right, that's the
- 25:15Speaker 1: last word. No, stay with us coming after after the break.
- 25:18Speaker 1: We'll tell you what's gonna happen the rest of the week.
- 25:20Speaker 1: And OTA is number one. Are today time to take
- 25:26Speaker 1: your season to the next level the Jaguars returning to
- 25:29Speaker 1: the Bank in twenty twenty six. Become a season ticket
- 25:31Speaker 1: member unlock exclusive access to ticketed events, members only experiences,
- 25:36Speaker 1: and NFL Membership club perks.
- 25:38Speaker 6: Availability is going to be limited this year.
- 25:40Speaker 1: Make sure you check things out as soon as possible.
- 25:41Speaker 1: Jaguars dot Com slash season tickets to secure your spot.
- 25:46Speaker 1: And that's because there's a lot of construction going on.
- 25:48Speaker 1: It's gonna be limited. Capacity looks different every time I
- 25:50Speaker 1: come into the parking.
- 25:51Speaker 6: Lot and don't want to go with it. They're building something.
- 25:54Speaker 2: Yeah, it's it's obviously the superstructure. It's going up, but
- 25:57Speaker 2: it's you.
- 25:58Speaker 6: It's awesome and it's cool to see.
- 26:00Speaker 1: They're building different concourses on our side near the Midller
- 26:03Speaker 1: Electric Center.
- 26:03Speaker 6: You can't see in that, but it's happening right now
- 26:07Speaker 6: and it's in progress.
- 26:08Speaker 2: I spoke at the Rotary Club of Orange Park not
- 26:11Speaker 2: long ago, and those folks, I asked them, how many
- 26:13Speaker 2: of you work downtown? Well, none of them, did you know?
- 26:15Speaker 2: They're all in Clay County. They hadn't seen it. They
- 26:19Speaker 2: didn't know, you know, how far along the office building,
- 26:22Speaker 2: what's done, how the four seasons, and how the stadium is,
- 26:25Speaker 2: And so I said, and it's for all the people
- 26:27Speaker 2: who are watching this too. If you're in Jacksonville, drive by,
- 26:30Speaker 2: come see it. It's impressive to see all of the
- 26:32Speaker 2: work that.
- 26:33Speaker 6: Is going on at all hours as well.
- 26:36Speaker 4: Well.
- 26:36Speaker 2: Listen, they've got a deadline because they've got to turn
- 26:38Speaker 2: the stadium back over to the Jaguars to get into
- 26:40Speaker 2: the season. They got a lot of work to do
- 26:41Speaker 2: in a short period of time. And then they shut
- 26:43Speaker 2: it off and then they turn it back on in
- 26:45Speaker 2: the middle of the season, and then they turn it
- 26:46Speaker 2: back on at the end of the season, and then it's.
- 26:48Speaker 3: Full boar, it's down.
- 26:49Speaker 1: It's very well scheduled. We know some of the schedule
- 26:53Speaker 1: of the OTAs. At least they're starting today. They'll be
- 26:56Speaker 1: progressing through the next couple of weeks. I think they
- 26:58Speaker 1: do ten OTAs and then mini camp in datory mini camp.
- 27:01Speaker 1: But this afternoon is the first we're gonna see Adam
- 27:04Speaker 1: of o t as. John, your favorite time of the year.
- 27:06Speaker 4: Yeah, well, it.
- 27:07Speaker 6: All nice to see everybody together.
- 27:08Speaker 5: You're on the field watching uh people throw football.
- 27:12Speaker 4: It's uh. I'll be there and I'll glean what I can't.
- 27:16Speaker 6: We will tell you all we know next week.
- 27:18Speaker 1: But enjoy things and uh later on the week.
- 27:21Speaker 6: JP Shadwick.
- 27:21Speaker 1: I think Happy Hour will have some some insight as well,
- 27:24Speaker 1: But until then, I'll see on jag XAM next week
